Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Great food. Friendly service and a nice selection on the menu, including an awesome, hearty salad (I order it with chicken). I live in the neighborhood and I keep going back. My boyfriend loved the salad with chicken too. Plantains are great and so are the rice and beans. Fish tacos, of course. Good prices. A great addition to Temescal.

The tacos are delicious - looking forward to a trip here soon

This is a Farmer's Market Favorite! Their fish, chicken and carne asada tacos are all fantastic. Compliment this with one of their aqua frescas and you are in heaven on a hot summer day at the market. They've developped quite a fan base, so be prepared for a long line, but definitely worth the wait....muchismas gracias por la comida fantastico! Rodrigo
(5)Jtina K.
I really like this place! The fish tacos are super delicious and filling! The mango & passion fruit aguas are refreshing. 2 tacos for $7.50, you can add more tacos for $3.50 each, they even let you mix and match! Agua was $3.50 and came in a large mason jar. The whole place was really clean and had a bit of a tropical vibe going (loved the colors of the walls). I kind of wish they had a salsa bar, maybe they'll incorporate it later.
(4)Nick C.
Simple fantastic menu. Incredible tacos. Colorful bright and spacious decor. Would absolutely drive from SF to come back here for lunch.
(5)The S.
I just gorged on a crispy fish taco and the picadilla and it was so delicious I hurt myself finishing it all! My friend ordered a taco and the cubano sandwich and when they got back the sandwich was not in the bag :( we called and they told them if they came back they'd throw in a FREE sandwich and 3 FREE drinks as an apology. I mean wow. Above and beyond and the food is so damn good.

The first time I had their tacos was close to 2 years ago at the Jack London Farmer's Market. I had their chicken tacos. DELISH. The marinade completely lit up my day. They stopped making it the third time I went (same with the "plates" which included chips and salsa). To this day I still daydream of them. SO SAD FOREVER. But their tacos are still REALLY GOOD. The toppings (cabbage, radish, baja cream, etc) make the tacos really fresh and light. I really love their Tofu Tacos. Crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. The Carnitas Tacos are also kind of good; has a nice savory-ness, but I don't get order it often because my mouth asks for the tofu even if my brain wants carnitas. I don't really care for the Fish Taco since there's not much seasoning, but my boyfriend asks for it every time. What I like most about Cholita Linda is that they've become increasingly efficient. I remember waiting for close to half an hour after I ordered my tacos (gave me enough time to go shopping), but now they come out less than 10 minutes. I really give the chefs props for this; it's hard to do that during the lunch rush. By the way, if you ever try to look for them online (they do have a website), their menu isn't up to date. I know, I'd be sad too if I realized they didn't make tortas when I look at their menu in person. -------------------------------------------- UPDATE 10/19/2012: So I lied when I said I didn't care for the fish tacos. I just had some today and they were PERFECTLY MEATY. The breading held the fish well so it didn't collapse at touch. The orange sauce had a nice subtle, spice compliment to the fish. It made me so happy. I regret doubting you, Fried Tilapia Taco. I'm so sorry. I'll never hurt you agaaaaiiin.
(5)Kris M.
This place has the most amazing fish tacos. My partner and I were thoroughly pleased that our Sunday morning Farmer's Market treat evolved into a weekly Friday night dinner.
(5)Kyle S.
All the tacos are great, but the carnitas tacos are AMAZING!! Worth the wait at farmer's market and worth the trip to Temescal.
(5)Elaine H.
Wow! Their fish taco are GOOD! Might be my favorite stand at the farmers market. Ray mentioned her wanted to go get fish taco and Cholita Linda was on my list to try. We sampled the 3 fish tacos for $10.50. Their tacos were pretty big, filled with slaw and tilapia. They were not skimpy with the fish. I only had 1 and it was enough for me. The sauce and slaw worked well. I'm looking to next Friday already! CASH ONLY! Like if you already didn't know..
(4)Adelina W.
The line is always long and now I know why. The friendly people at Cholita Linda know how to make tacos. They are street taco size, but chock full of yumminess. The tilapia taco was lightly fried and full of flavor. The carnitas was also full of flavor. As small as the tacos are, they fill them with a pretty good amount of meat/fish along with cabbage slaw, crema and radish. I'm now adding Cholita Linda to my Friday Farmer's Market rotation!
(4)Dawna Y.
Nothing like JLS Farmers Market, Sunshine and Cholita Linda Fish Tacos on the green!!
(5)Chris V.
You know it's a damn good taco, when the tortilla is perfect! 3.5 stars JUST for the tortilla. The toppings, the drinks....all are good. But not as comforting as the deliciousness that is their tortilla. It's always a pleasure picking up a carnitas taco at the Temescal Farmers' Market. Worth. Every. Penny.
(4)Amy H.
Fish tacos on a Sunday morning, yum! Ordered two to go with extra sauce. And yes, it's still $7. One for me and one for the boyfriend. First time trying it out and we both love it. Delicious! The sauce is what makes a big difference and it is so tasty. Will be back for more when Sunday's comes around. Thanks Cholita Linda for the yummy fish tacos...
(4)Ada T.
Cholita Linda's presence at the Old Oakland Farmer's Market has immeasurably improved my Fridays. The fish tacos here are unusually good. Though deep fried, the pieces of fish taste light and crunchy. Together with some cabbage slaw, crema, and corn tortilla, it's a wonderful bite. I typically order 2 ($7), but always want 3, not because I'm still hungry but because they're so damn good that you don't want it to be over. I tried the carnitas once; they were good, but I wouldn't order again over the fish tacos. The meat lacked that grease and crunchiness I want in my carnitas. The agua frescas are refreshing and call out to me on warm afternoons, but I rarely order them as it's a little pricey.
(5)Kevin E.
I love this place! Makes the trip to the farmers market extra special! The fish tacos are amazing! You taste the love in what they make .... Carnitas also excellent! Check this place out, you will not regret it!
(5)Turi F.
These tacos are really good. I mean really good. Especially the fish tacos. I pretty much go the the Jack London Square Farmers' Market every Sunday exclusively to stand in line to buy these tacos so I can sit by the port and grub. Highly recommended.
(5)Nyla J.
3 fish tacos for $7 ! It's worth the wait in the long line!
(5)Jason J.
4.5 stars. Holy smokes are the fried fish tacos winners! Ridiculously tasty. Thanks, Yelpers, for pointing the way! The fish was fresh, lightly fried and not oily, and very well seasoned. That's a hard combo to nail, and they execute it flawlessly. The fish by itself would be great. But the slaw, radishes, crema, slightly spicy sauce, and squeeze of lime take it to the next level. And then there's the frescas. Cholita Linda talked me into a 50/50 mix of limeade and a strawberry fresca. Superb! The only thing keeping this from being a five star is the price. $3.50 per taco is on the steep side for a "street" vendor. Ouch. But I'll be back, if that's says anything.
(4)Brandi W.
Ran into this booth at Farmer's Market Old Oakland during lunchtime. I'm not sure if these are the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life, but if not they are super close to it. I'm in love...no lengthy review here, except that my taco was incredible.
(5)Tina L.
Try it all. I feel like I could end my review there- but that would just be sound advice and not a review :). Your first time? Fish Taco's: Lightly fried and they fry every batch to order pretty much. It comes with a light slaw on top and they squeeze a small amount of crema to top it off. The batter isn't heavy and the fish is delicate. Carnita's: For sure the second best option; tender, falls apart and full of carnitas goodness. Tofu: I like that they offer a vegetarian option; good to try but stick to the meat you won't regret it. Agua Fresca's: I've had the mango and the watermelon or kiwi (crap I forget.) The mango was great to break up the savoriness of the Carnita's. You order individually; for a guy I think 3 taco's will let you walk away feeling full. As a lady 2 is sort of my max :) I could do 3 but prefer to save room for a cupcake from Miette!
(5)Ryan G.
I had the three tacos at Oakland Farmers Market for $10.50. Food was good but definitely getting tired of outrageous prices for food that should be half the price. Guess this is part of gentrification in Oakland. Hipsters come in and the food prices go sky high...Get your hustle on Cholita Linda, but I'm going to stick with the trucks and businesses that cater to old school Oakland folk.
(3)T A.
I've been twice now and am doubly impressed. First time was just a regular ol transaction.. bought a fish taco. It comes with a side of chips with some red sauce and cojita cheese crumbles.! The fish taco is deep fried but, not greasy. It's delicious. Second time I went, I only had $3. So, I told Linda I'd be back after I found an ATM. Well, shit.. Jack London has no ATMs in plain sight so, I sat on a bench counting quarters and dimes because, like a crack head needs rock, I needed my taco. I go back, I pay and apologize for all the coins. As I'm getting my taco, Linda hands me a lemonade.. for free! What? Really? She said it was because I went so far looking for money. Aww, I'll take the pity lemonade and enjoy it! Gracias cholita Linda.. I'll see ya again soon mamita (I'm just pretending like I'm down with the Latinos..I really just like words that end in 'ita')
(5)Jenn C.
We wanted to try this place out for their fried chicken sandwich but unfortunately on the day we went they weren't selling it. =( Thank goodness we decided to stay in line and try the fish tacos because we were not disappointed. The fish tacos is one of the best I've had. It's battered just enough for that crispy texture and the flavor of the fish still comes through. The only downfall is, you pay $1 more for a taco than you would at a average mexican restaurant.
(4)Simone F.
Grubbing fish tacos!!! The slaw topping is great and comes w/chips. It's messy but I don't care when it comes to keep my muffin top fluffy.... I'll get messy for it!! Oh, that fresh squeezed Limeade with Guanábana & Mint is now my favorite drink at the market right now but I wish if it's just slightly less sweet since I don't normally put sweetener in my drinks at all but it's very refreshing! I look forward to our Sunday morning bike rides for brunch at the JLS FM!!
(5)Sherrie D.
I've had these at the Temescal Farmers market. Everyone raves about the fish tacos and they are right. The fish tacos are where it's at. (With extra sauce if you can.)
(4)J C.
Mmmmm... fish tacos are perfectly breaded and fried, cabbage adds crunch and textyre, and balanced with crema and hot sauce. Mango aqua fresca was refreshing and very mango-y. Simply prepared food is often done wrong, but these are incredibly enjoyable.
(5)Juan R.
Their fish tacos are delicious. Perfectly breaded fish, crunchy cabbage, a nice dose of crema, and the perfect amount of heat. I almost forgot to mention the aguas frescas. On the day that we went, they were serving a melon agua fresca that was arguably the best thing that I've ever drunk.
(4)Joshua C.
2 words: Fish Tacos. One word: YUM!
(4)Peter S.
This place is the bomb. Highlight of every Sunday at farmer's market. Carnitas tacos & limeade. Mmmm.
(5)Sid F.
If you're the Oakland area on Saturday, stop by Jack London Square for some awesome fish tacos. Fish is crispy on the outside and moist and smooth on the inside. Hopefully down the line they have make a carnitas taco. MMMM CARNITAS!
(4)Willie L.
As my wife can vouch, I usually like to try different dishes when I return to a restaurant. But every time I'm at the Farmer's Market, I get a fish taco craving. They're that good. The tilapia has a crispy layer and so soft and hot on the inside. It's perfectly matched by the crunchy and refreshing cabbage slaw. The tacos are topped with two sauces. Te Baja cream sauce smooths it out and the salsa roja gives it a nice little kick. I always get the 3 for $10 plate. I once tried the Aquas Frescas but didn't feel it went well with the tacos. It's a refreshing, mildly sweet drink that's good for hot days but it just didn't feel right with the tacos.
(5)Tiffany N.
The wait for these tacos is brutal! I decided to give them another shot because the tacos really are good and there were only 2 people in line. I ordered then waited....waited....waited....watched a bunch of other people get their food.....waited....waited.....waited. Ok this was nuts!!!! I asked the guy putting the tacos together at a snail pace if he even had my order up there. He said no and asked what I ordered. The guy working the grill pointed out a ticket on the ground, which was most likely my order. I finally got my food after about a 30 min wait. He gave a free limeade which tasted like liquified lime peel. Ok never again, I learned my lesson!!! I just cannot spend 30 min waiting on 2 tacos. These people really need to get a better system in place. An extra set of hands putting the tacos together would do wonders since that seems to be where the hold up is.
(3)Jean O.
Yummy fish tacos! Though the 3 taco plate looks small, it was actually quite filling because the fish were so large and also came with a side of chips. The tacos were topped with cabbage, sour cream, and a really good red sauce. The agua frescas were very good and refreshing. This was my first time at the Jack London Farmers Market, and I'm definitely coming back just for the fish tacos!
(5)Reza K.
Well, I'm new to the world of fish tacos but I'm obsessed. So I'm on the search for the best fish taco out there. And ladies and gentlemen we have a definite contender for the top spot. I came to the JLS farmers market just for these and I was not disappointed. The fish tastes awesome and has a spicy sauce on it. It plays well against the traditional sauce thats on the cabbage. The tortillas seem quite fresh. 3 taco plate for $10 comes with fresh made thick chips. My only complaint was the mint limeade. It did not taste like limeade at all. It was more like mint Aguas Frescas. Not good at all. But not worth dropping a star off. The fish tacos are the BOMB!!
(5)Whitney J.
I have one word: AWESOME!!!!!!!!! These were the best fish tacos ever! I tried them for the first time at the Eat Real 2011 festival last weekend in JLS! There was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. I even went back before the day was over to purchase more to take home. Which my son loved and he is a very picky eater. I will definitely be making another trip out this weekend to the Farmer's Market just for the fish tacos! I have found my new obsession... =)
(5)Quincey S.
Best fish tacos ever. Had them two weeks ago they are great.
(5)Cynthia V.
I was walking around the farmer's market in Oakland yesterday and saw a woman carrying around a plate of food that looked scrumptious beyond belief.... fish tacos from Cholita Linda. I went straight there. The best I have ever had! And $7 for two tacos!!! I can't wait for the restaurant on Telegraph to open!
(5)mama y su nina n.
The food is a good example of simple fresh food done extraordinarily well! You can buy good to mediocre food almost anywhere, but this food is definitely worth the drive. Also, the tacos are the most popular, but I highly recommend their sandwiches. They are amazing!
(5)Vincent K.
Great fish taco at the Old Oakland Farmers Market (every Friday, 9th St. between Broadway and Clay). Cholita Linda strikes a balance throughout. The fish is lightly breaded and deep fried. It is crunchy on the outside, but remains moist and flaky inside. The taco sauce provides a just hint of spiciness but does not overpower the fish. A complex play on texture and taste.
(5)Jason F.
The Mango-Lime Aqua Fresca was amazing. The fish taco was crispy with good flavor/texture. The pollo was average, but a taco plate on Jack London Square was a great way to start the morning. I don't want to take the average rating down from 5 stars, so it gets another 5 from me. This place really helped me start the morning after a blur of an evening in Oakland, which would also gets 5 stars if I was rating it :) Attention to detail and doing things right is what quality food is about. It doesnt have to be gourmet. The shredded cabbage, paper thin radishes, limes, chips, sauce, cotija queso all contributed to a quality taco plate. Sitting down with a taco plate and aqua fresca in hand on a beautiful morning in Jack London square is a great way to start a Sunday. Then head over to Chop Bar a few blocks away if you want to continue the dream.
(5)Heather J.
My favorite stop at Jack London Sq. Farmers' Market! My boyfriend and I have Sunday routine when nothing else is on the schedule: sleep in, Drive or bike to JL2 Farmers' Market, pick up some Blue Bottle Coffee and Miette Cupcakes (I'd like to say for dessert later that night, but who am I kidding? :), snagging a few fresh fruits and veggies for the week, and finally: Cholita Linda fish tacos!!! Delicious way to start the week! I also highly recommend their fresh-squeezed juices. Different every week, but they never disappoint. Not that I want the line to get any longer, but I would totally recommend you try this sometime. That is, if you love amazing food...and are planning on going for a run after you eat your cupcake.
(5)Jennifer S.
I only had two of the tacos but it filled me up. Be prepared for a long wait in line as this is one of the most popular food stands at the farmer's market. The fish tacos are really good and I like the cabbage slaw and cilantro. It is a bit pricey for the amount but the taste makes up for it.
(4)Michele K.
Still obsessed with the fish tacos, I had three today. I spoke to them today and was pleased to hear the "bistro" is in the works....
(5)Terri M.
I actually really like this place. It's kind of a gem in the heart of Old Oakland. I've only gone for their brunch. They have bottomless mimosas (YEAH!!!). I watched them pour a full bottle of champagne into one of those pitchers, but somehow, still seemed weak. It's OK, just take your time with your meal. The place has great ambience and lighting, like a fresh spring morning, even when it's gloomy out. I don't understand. But on to the food. I've always enjoyed everything I've ordered. Get the ceviche. It's bomb-dot-com and unlike any other I've had. I've been trying to deconstruct it so I can make it at home and so far i've got jalapeno, lime, and cilantro. That may be all it is. Tamales are good. Have I had the chilaquiles here? I know i keep wanting to order it, but my bf is wary bc he ordered chilaquiles at El Portal and wasn't a fan. Let me know if you end up ordering the chilaquiles here and how you liked it. :)
(5)Emmy S.
The fish tacos are DELICIOUS. The carnitas taco was ok too but the fish tacos are definitely a win. The cashier was a total douche and nearly ruined my experience. Luckily the tacos are that good but I had to take away a star because of how put off I was by the service.
(4)Michael H.
Best fish tacos ever. Fresh, flavorful... amazing! There is a reason this place always has a line forming outside it's booth. Sadly they ran out of carnitas literally 2 people before me in line, and it pains me so because now I'm back in Chicago, and will have to wait until my next time in CA to try. Apparently they are working on opening a restaurant... good for them, they absolutely deserve it and I can't wait to eat their delicious tacos again!
(5)Wanjiru K.
Take note. Cholita Linda is doing something right- it's called cooking with seasoning and fresh ingredients. On a sunny day, the fresh cantaloupe juice cools you down. The fish tacos are delicious, with amazing salsa -slightly expensive, but worth it. Might I add that the servers are friendly and even good looking. The line is so long that I wouldn't be surprised if the geniuses of this enterprise become millionaires.
(5)James T.
This is deliciousness incarnate. I absolutely love these fish tacos and often go to the Jack London Market for them only. Sitting down at Heinhold's with 2 (or 3!) fish tacos and a cold brew, looking out over the bay? This is heaven. Heaven. They only have 2 options, but I see from their website that they do deliver more things. Check 'em out.
(5)John C.
Absolutely delicious fish tacos. Crispy fish, crunchy cabbage, delicious crema, and a homemade tortilla. Why only four stars? They don't serve beer, and what's a fish taco without a beer to wash it down? Also, their prices are a wee bit high for a food stand.
(4)Jason T.
Best carnitas taco on the planet...these ladies do an awesome taco. Be warned they will run out and lines could have you waiting for 20 minutes...but it's worth it.!
(5)Attila T.
Not gonna lie, I was super excited to try this place after all of the positive reviews on yelp because I am a total fish taco FIEND and I happen to live within walking distance of the Jack London farmer's market. However, I was extremely underwhelmed after having such high expectations. After reading such great reviews, I was expecting some sort of orgasmic, out of body experience. I only ordered the fish taco plate, so I can't vouch for any of the other menu items. $10 for three tiny tacos and like, five tortilla chips is a little on the pricey side. I think this place is actually two $$ if you get a drink with your meal. Limeade was also pretty dinky for $3.50. The fish tacos were tasty but my companion and I both agreed that they were nothing exceptional. I get the same amount of enjoyment from eating a Rubio's fish taco. Will update my review once I've gotten the chance to try more menu items...the sandwiches look really good on the website, but are also on the pricey side at about $10 if I recall correctly. Oh yeah, the workers are above average looking but nothing special! I don't think Linda was working that day though. Another disappointment ;)
(4)jeff b.
Food is above average - the fish tacos are really good - and the location is fantastic. You can stroll the isles for fresh veggies, grab your tacos and chill out while listening to good, free music. As others have said - the food is quite pricey for what you get - a $10 three taco plate will really only feed one person, but the quality is there.
(4)Anna J.
Yum!!! I am so sad that I haven't seen Cholita Linda at the Alameda farmers market anymore, what happened?! I am so happy to know they're still around. The tacos are...indescribably good. Oh how I miss them here in Alameda, I would buy three, yes THREE of their lime with mint drinks. They are so refreshing. Can't wait to visit their Jack London booth!
(5)Shelly S.
Last Sunday my boyfriend and I decided to ride our bikes down to Jack London Square. The weather was beautiful and the 3.5 mile ride sounded like the perfect way to enjoy it. Once we arrived we followed the music and discovered the "Sunday Farmer's Market" where we proceeded to fall in love with Cholita Linda's fish tacos and Agua fresca. I ordered the Baja fish tacos - soft corn tortillas, crispy fried tilapia, salsa roja, cabbage salad, and baja cream. As I waited for our order I overheard several people comment on how delicous the tacos were. We dug into those tacos like nobody's business and shared the best Mango Agua fresco ever!!! I'm already looking forward to another round of those taco's this weekend! I hear the menu changes too.....I'm excited to try some other things. Cholita Linda keep it coming....Oakland needs you!
(5)Rebeca S.
From the salsa and fresh Mexican cheese on the home made chips, to the crispy fish and savory chicken taco contents, Cholita Linda BRINGS IT. Fresh ingredients, Consistent quality, hands down - and I can't talk without my hands - everything coming out of their stand is excellent. If you haven't tried the Agua Frescas, different flavors every week, expand your tootie frutti horizons, my Fav, the Mint Limeade. Can't wait for the restaurant............I'm waiting.
(5)Dana B.
Best fish tacos. Ever. I can't get enough and find myself unable to order fish tacos anywhere else, because I'm always disappointed. Fresh fish, breaded and fried on-site and topped with an amazing cabbage/raddish blend, a mildly-spicy sauce and crema. Family owned and operated and always served with a smile. I try to stuff my face with these every Sunday at the Jack London Square farmers' market and am never, ever disappointed.
(5)fenny g.
My absolute favorite taco, their baja fish and chicken taco.. sooooo good. And their fresca are to die for.
(5)Betty D.
I have not been to the restaurant but am going to go very soon! I had their fish tacos at the eat real festival and they were TO DIE FOR so good and fresh tasting! All of their tacos looked great but I'm gonna stick to the fish YUM
(4)Paige L.
I miss Cholita Linda fish tacos at the farmer's market! They are the best! I moved and I haven't been able to find anything like it. They are so good, and I love the agua frescas too. I just wish I were closer so I could enjoy this place.
(5)Samara R.
Cholita Linda makes going to the Farmer's Market an event! I save an extra $10.50 after I get my veggies to order either the fish or carnitas tacos with whatever aqua fresca they have for the day!
(5)Beliza G.
Their fish taco is the BOMB!!!!! It's always a treat to see these guys at the Farmer's Market. On Mother's Day all my mother in-law wanted to do was to have fish tacos from Cholita Linda...so we did. They have tasty agua fresca and I don't even share it with husband. He calls me selfish, but when it comes to Cholita Linda - I don't think I am!
(5)Beth B.
As a vendor at Farmers' Markets, you get really hungry and are willing to settle for having nothing but Kettle Corn all day. I had a delightful surprise last Sunday at Jack London Square - these folks are new to the market, and they make DELICIOUS Peruvian food. My god it is good. The steak torta was both hearty and delicately flavored, and the fish taco was perfect. I can now wholeheartedly recommend making JLS a lunch destination on Sundays. :) Oh, and - everyone who works the booth is both immensely sweet and beautiful.
(5)Mike B.
I'm not a foodie. But i love tacos. and I'm a creature of habit. Go to this stand at the Jack London Square Farmers Market every Sunday 10-2p. $10 for 3 of the best fish tacos in the east bay - i get them every time i go. Then i walk 10 feet to Heinhold's, order a Trumer and sit on the deck in the sun eating my favorite fish tacos. Fish tacos, beer and a deck. Can you tell i'm ready for summer?
(5)Andrew O.
Had fish tacos in five other places around Berkeley and this was by far the best. Freshest fish, great sauces, and fresh cabbage put this fist taco on top. It's worth it!
(5)Jennifer C.
I try to make fish tacos at home but nothing compares to Cholita Linda's. Love the frescas too.
(5)Roger D.
omg the fish tacos are great here! i dont think i have had any better. the sauce (i think its a homemade sauce) there arent too many of places that make fish tacos like this place. They also have a different menu than most places. I highly recommend this place!
(5)Kim C.
Each week we make our way down to Jack London Square Farmer's Market to enjoy Cholita Linda fish tacos and wood fired pizza (that's a different review). I drool over the prospect of my dish of fish tacos dripping with sweet cabbage, spicy radishes, cool cilantro and a creamy sauce, lightly drizzled over the top. Sometimes there is a sprinkle of crumbled cheese over the pile of chips on the side. But they'll hold the "spicy stuff" and not give me dirty looks. Don't get me wrong -- the deep red pepper sauce is wonderful...my mother would love it and my hubby gets it on his plate of tacos, but my German side can't handle the heat. Since they don't RELY on the peppers for flavor, it's still a great dish without it. Their aqua frescas are sweet but not TOO sweet -- normally Lime plus one other flavor. And the nice older woman who often takes my order apologizes for not remembering my name. So sweet. I keep hoping they'll open a storefront. I'd travel into Berkeley or Alameda in a heartbeat if it meant we weren't beholden to the weather patterns of the Bay. One other thing. The price is not unreasonable to me. They have different prices for one, two or three taco plates, or you can go a la cart. But $10 gets you three tacos (each has two typically sized corn tortillas) that are more fish than toppings, plus chips. It fills a 9" paper plate and is completely filling.

Pricey for tacos ($3.50 apiece!). The fish taco featured your typical-tasting, deep-fried fish... can't say much more about it. The Hodo tofu taco wasn't very good either. I got moderately full with two tacos, but it was an uncomfortable, greasy kind of full. Agua frescas were a bit too sweet. Given the 7 dollars, no seating, long wait for food, and uncomfortable fullness, I would rather go somewhere else.
(2)Vanessa D.
holy shite-- i agree with the 5 star rating! first tried at oakland JLS farmer's market. exceptional fish tacos, awesome steak sandwich, and refreshing guanabana limeade (aka soursop. in the philippines, this fruit is known as guyabano)-- all pretty affordable and lovingly constructed. glad to see they're on the island; i didn't see them at the alameda farmer's market, but for the record, i just whizzed by on my bike. must try the other sandwiches-- the yelp pics are awesome. will update this weekend.
(5)Von.Von Z.
3.5 stars... pretty good fish taco, but damn, be prepared for a bocadillo, not a meal. it is really SMALL for $4.50. the $10.00 plate includes three tacos, but i don't think that will fill you up unless you have a lot to drink with it.
(3)A. R.
Fantastic fish and carnitas tacos at the farmers market. Love the cantaloupe and watermelon juices!
(4)Wats C.
Fish tacos are very solid... and the Lime Drink. I could eat like 8 of those Tacos though.. . Get a few, and chill on the pier with a nice friend
(5)Tiffany S.
fish tacos. hella good.
(5)Riya K.
FISH TACOS. That is all. When they open their actual restaurant, I will be there.

Cholita Linda sets up shop primarily at two locations: Concord Summer Farmers Market on Thursdays and Jack London Square Farmers Market on Sunday. They are also planning to set up in San Fran in one of their Saturday Markets (Not Ferry Plaza). They cook up by far one of the best baja style fish (tilapia) tacos in the area. They also do a very good spit roasted chicken taco. They serve in 1, 2 or 3 order plates, which includes a generous amount of tortilla chips accompanied by some really good salsa. They also sell agua frescas, which have the right amount of sweetness. The proprietors are really friendly folks who have been doing this for awhile. They used to sell tortas, but have focused primarily on selling tacos. If they get a restaurant, they say they'll definitely expand. Why buy from them: Great tacos and chips, friendly owners and you can combine your meal with the fruits and vegetables you've just purchased from the local market.

Fish tacos are an absolute must - try em with a bloody Mary from heinold's!
(5)Darina I.
Come one! Come all! And try the best tacos in all the lands!

Last night over dinner I was told that I was prone to exaggeration, which is just not true*. So believe me when I say: Cholita Linda has the BEST tacos ever ever ever ever -- they do! They are perfect. I yap about them to pretty much anyone who will listen to me. Eating them is my primary motivation for taking BART 20 minutes out of the city on Sundays (apologies to my aunt who I visit while I'm there, but you know a. i'm driven by food and b. you love them too). Currently one of my favorite bay area meals, I would even venture to say... Top 5. Wow... yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and commit to that. So this food stand, right... they are open on Sundays at the JLS Farmers Market until about 2pm right by the Jack London wolf. The sandwiches are solid, but the tacos are where it's really at. They slice the chicken right off this spit roaster and put this perfect and delicious red sauce on them. And I'm definitely the type of person who opts for maximum extras on tacos -- guacamole, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, multiple salsas... basically, whatever they will give me. But I swear, these tacos need nothing else than what is on them. I usually get one fish taco and one chicken taco... and then another chicken taco if I'm feeling up to it. The family that owns the food stand is remarkably friendly and they are also all unusually attractive, which is kind of cool. AND I cannot neglect to mention the tasty & refreshing fruit drinks -- coconut pineapple, blackberry passion fruit, mint & lime -- these often ice my Sunday-mid-morning-lunch-in-the-sun-by-the-water cake. Please come to San Francisco ;) *this is probably true.
(5)Jeremy C.
Tried their fish taco at Eat Real 2011 - the order took several minutes to prepare, but was well worth the wait - generous portions of breaded, not too greasy fish, with a refreshing topping of cream and cabbage. Definitely a highlight of the festival and rivals the best fish tacos I've had in the Bay Area, Dia de Pesca included.
(5)Gordon F.
you have to get the fish tacos from this stand! they are perfectly fried and not greasy at all. get 3 fish tacos and a mango aqua fresca to wash it on down and you have a great lunch.
(5)J N.
Best fish tacos north of LA. Could knock it down a half star for being a bit pricey, but still spot-on.
(5)samantha s.
you must try them! i like to think of myself as a taco connoisseur. i first had cholita linda's fish tacos at jack london square sunday farmers market and they blew my mind. then i got to sample the chicken tacos at the alameda saturday farmers market and i was equally impressed. not only is it fresh and artistically presented but it leaves you wanting to know the secret of how they make them so great. i can't wait for them to have a restaurant! i will surely be one of their regulars. until then i will see them at the farmers market!
(5)Reina B.
The food is the best! I drive all the way from livermore for the tacos, sandwiches and agua fresca. And it's well worth the ride. Sit down near the water at Jack London square and sink your teeth into this delicious food! I dont have a favorite cuz I love it all! "if you dont know, No you know!"
(5)Trinity X.
After having fish tacos in Concord on Thursday we swung by Sunday at their location in Jack London Square. After 2h's of Qi Gong we've had worked up an appetite and were curious about their peruvian sandwiches which are only available on Sunday's. I have to say, they are the bomb. I tried the vegetarian sandwich which was fried sweet potatoe, on several generously thick cut slices of queso fresco, topped with olive tapanade and greens tossed in a vinagrette. The portion was more than plenty for me as the sandwich was served with a side of a quinoa salad (pardon my spelling, I don't even know if it really is quinoa or if I'm getting my grains mixed up here)..anyway, point is, salad was also very tasty. The sandwich was served panini style and was very good. I'm looking forward to trying the steak version soon. The fish tacos continue to be my favorite, they have an excellent sauce on it, which has a little bit of a kick at the end. We also like their spit roasted chicken tacos..actually just give them a try and judge for yourself, you won't be disappointed..
(5)Kat S.
Yummy baja fish tacos, but its the sauces that make this place. Not blazing hot so you can actually taste the roasted peppers instead of just feel them.
(5)Karen P.
Ok, I'm only the 6th to review Cholita Linda, and I have to say that all the others have said it all. Fresh, tasty with a perfect blend of flavors and textures, simple and satisfying, in a most pleasant setting. I almost hesitate to spill about this place because one of the most pleasant aspects of the surroundings, besides the sun, water, harbor, views, etc., is that it's not overly packed with people (yet). This is a real find!!
(5)Mari J.
gourmet fish tacos, the tastiest i've ever had!
(5)Carol C.
Yummy. Everything is delicious that we've tried. Their online ordering system works great. If you pay in advance just come at the appointed time and you don't need to wait in any lines.
(5)Arthur Y.
After all the great tacos at the famers markets and such - a brick and mortar location. Nice and big and clean - with a awesome patio space in the back. Tacos and such from a peruvian angle. The tacos are awesome, with a crispy slaw and some crema (fish, pollo, carnitas, al pastor, asada). Some pressed sandos with a awesome bread (cuban, asada and something else). House fried chips and salsa are a must and their fresca (juice) game is on point - strawberry-lime will never do you wrong. Wifey loves the Picadillo - which is almost like a ground beef chilli type dish over rice with greens and plantanos. BOMB~ And they use prremium ingredients like Niman ranch beef...what's not to love about all that??
(5)Y H.
Get their fish tacos!
(4)Jordan K.
The fish tacos *never* disappoint. I am so glad to have them in the neighborhood.
(5)Peter J.
This was my first time getting food from here. Went last night to get take out with my Little Bro, my Little Bro+ his wife live close by. I also understand this restaurant has a food truck to. We placed a order for three people over the phone, we were told it would be ready in 15 minutes, my Little Bro+I drove over to get the food. A very nice interior, this place is hustling and bustling. The food was ready to pick up as we arrived, I ordered one of the plates(Red Snapper), and my Little Bro ordered a chicken salad, and his wife ordered some tacos, we got chips and guacamole to share. JUST BE AWARE THAT WHEN YOU ORDER THE RED SNAPPER THERE ARE BONES, that being said I really enjoyed the meal which came with rice, beans, and a side salad. We all really enjoyed our food, and they have great service here to. I'd reccomend going here. Enjoy!!
(4)Jan J.
My daughter said we had to go to Cholita Linda. She's been once before and loved it. I know why now. We both had sandwiches. She had the "Cubano" and I had the "Lechon." Both sandwiches are a new spin on traditional foods. We sat outside in Cholita Linda's quiet patio and sipped on blackberry and lime frescas while we waited for our lunch. Very nice. I finished my entire sandwich in one sitting. That's rare. The food was that good. I believe I'd do it again too.
(5)Rachel J.
What a disappointment! I have been on the hunt for great guacamole since moving to Oakland... I thought perhaps Cholita Linda would be my savior, but no luck. The guacamole is not the thick deliciousness I crave. Instead, it is thin & watered down. I don't know what they use, but whatever it is, it compromises the taste. I had only a few bites before I could eat no more. So sad!! We also tried the tacos (fish & carne asada) as well as the pescado frito (fish plate): fried snapper with onions, side of rice, plantains & salad. The fried fish wasn't particularly flavorful, it was just... fried. The fish plate & fish taco were so salty I couldn't eat much of it, and even the rice was salt-soaked. The plantains were a good, sweet compliment, but great Mexican food doesn't need to be overly salted to be delicious. We were all non-plussed. Disappointing!!!
(2)Eva E.
You guys are awesome! The food is great. Fresh amazing flavor, fast, and great service. Anyone coming to Oakland should try Cholita Linda!!
(5)Chris S.
Really awesome tacos - I had the fish taco, the carnitas, and the carne asada. All of them had to be some of the best I've ever eaten in the Bay Area. I also had the plantains; really affordable and cooked right as to be not too greasy. The location is great and so it the atmosphere. I love how the restaurant is laid out and decorated. Casual and friendly. Not sure what else I can say other than I will be back - maybe even tomorrow!
(4)Olga L.
Delicious fish tacos. Parking was a challenge though.
(4)Mayra G.
Very interesting food, wouldn't say its really Mexican cultural food but its alright. Pretty pricey too...Boyfriend and I were yelping and found Los Cilantros but upon arriving he was not feeling the vibe so the next choice was Cholita Linda. Place is really nice and clean. Servers are really nice as well. Reason why I gave this place 3 stars is because despite the awesome customer service the food wasn't so much satisfying for me. I had 2 carnitas tacos which were pretty good but I also had 2 steak tacos and the steak was not that great, tasted like pepper. They're Guacamole though is BOMB. I also had a strawberry lime agua fresca which was pretty good. Wouldnt mind going again but dont think ill crave it anytime soon.
(3)Randy H.
The fish taco's are amazing and some of the best I've ever had!!!
(5)Kathleen W.
I've eaten predominantly at Taco trucks for the last 2 years - and have been in search of the best taco truck in Oakland, so it was rare for us to walk into this place for lunch. But the high ceilings and colorful decor attracted me! I thought the prices seemed high for tacos (I am so used to playing $1.25 for them ....) so at $3.50 this was definitely dipping into my taco budget! The hubby ordered a carne asada sandwich. And I had 1 carnitas taco and 1 carne asada taco. You order at the counter and then grab a table where they deliver the food to you. The food was tasty and it was nice without having to stand outside waiting for your food, have access to water / napkins and silverware and be able to eat my food sitting down :) Would not be adverse to eating here again, though not sure if it warrants a specific trip.
(4)Cymen V.
Pickup is quick and the tacos are big. The fish tacos were great but the carnitas was pretty darn good too. The side of rice and beans is just about right for one person. The plantains are towards the sweet side with just enough caramelization to be great. I was worried they were overhyped but I'll be back. It would be +1 star if they figured out a way to get that line moving and people in and out. It gets really busy. I'm happy for them but right now pickup is pretty much the only reasonable option.
(4)Ana Z.
Fish tacos are hella good and the yuca fries are definitely my favorite. But I was kinda annoying because I order a sangria and they almost forgot about mines. Service was good.
(3)Fredo L.
If it's your first time here, get the fish tacos or the fish taco salad. Then explore the rest of the delicious menu. The place has a pretty cool vibe, gives you a feel that you're in a tropical beach like Cuba or Puerto Vallarta. Definitely a happy place :)
(5)Sly C.
Tofu tacos here are awesome! They're flavorfully braised (or something) with a good amount of cabbage slaw and drizzled with crema. Tortillas are very tasty too, with a little crispiness. Not too messy to eat overall. Two are enough for me for lunch, but my husband gets three. The guacamole is remarkably good. Chips seem homemade and are cut thick. They have a few different agua frescas available, which are also delicious. You order at the counter and get a number to take to your seat. The ambiance is nice; it's colorful, clean, and spacious inside, and there is some outdoor seating as well. Or you can order online for pickup, which I tried for the first time today and it went off without a hitch. I've only ever experienced friendly service here. Definitely recommended! I just wish they had more vegetarian options than the tofu tacos (and salad) -- I'd love a veggie sandwich!
(5)Sophie M.
Still can't handle how awesome this place is. I want to recommend it to everyone. I have finally brought myself to try something other than the fish tacos. I got the salad which was delicious but fish tacos still can never be beat. Order one as an appetizer and two as an entree. They are too good to miss.
(5)Gilbey G.
Asado sandwich is mouthwatering. It's absolute deliciousness & bliss from first bite to last. I've been to this place probably 5 times in a month, and the Asado sandwich is the only thing I order. The taste has been consistent every time. There are so many other things I want to try, but I just can't will myself away from this one sandwich. It's that good!
(4)Misha T.
I was glad to finally make it here as I've driven by Cholita Linda like a billion times. I tried three of the tacos, the carnitas, the pollo, and the fish one. All three were ok, but the fish one in particular was great. Better than Taqueria Mi Familia on Shattuck. Next time I go, it'll just be three fish tacos. This joint also has a nice backyard patio dining area. So if it's a particularly nice day out and you want fish tacos, look no further.
(4)Rob M.
Cuban. Fish tacos. Habenero sauce in table. Guacamole and fresh pico. Great vibe. I'm coming back. Makes you want to dance!
(5)Anastasia P.
Amazing food and service. The staff was very friendly. I had the Papito which was a sandwich with plantains, arugula, and thinly-sliced steak. Definitely recommend! I also tried the Baja fish taco with this really good spicy sauce. That was good but could've been potentially better with more fixings. I also really enjoyed the casual atmosphere but kind of annoying having to seat yourself. I will definitely be coming back!
(4)Anya G.
So amazingly delicious! Food came quickly after I ordered. Lovely decor. Customers made it noisy indoors, but they have ample outdoor seating :)
(5)Susangela M.
Cholita Linda has two new fans. I keep ordering the tacos b/c they are so tasty. My favorite is the fish, but the carne asada is also excellent. I've loved all the agua frescas as well. the yuca fries.. different, pretty good, watch out for the dipping sauce, HOT! The best secret is Jorge who keeps the tables clean, brings you whatever extra you need and treats everyone like a good friend. Muchas gracias.
(5)I R.
Great food - we had the tacos and a sandwich and were very happy and very stuffed. The atmosphere is nice also and prices are fair.
(5)Sacha B.
When here for lunch today and ordered the "fried" chicken plate, (although to be honest, I missed the part about it being fried, so thought that I was ordering the healthy choice!!! Lol!) and it was certainly awesome! Came out fast, but piping hot, and the bold flavor was superclean and very fresh...even exceptional, with huge portions! The wait time was also extremely short, even though the restaurant had plenty of people in it. I highly recommend this place and the people around me looked happy and also very satisfied. The other items that I saw pass by me were also huge and looked delicious! They play upbeat Latin music which makes the place feel fun and lively, and today was slightly overcast so the back patio is closed, but what a gorgeous setting for an afternoon lunch with a glass of white wine. Will be back again;)
(5)Christopher J.
I came here with my friend John Z to try their Cubano sandwiches after watching "Chef" at the Yelp Secret Cinema Night. The Cubano was good, but not traditionally made and, after watching "Chef", it was just a bit disappointing ... but, to be fair, my expectations were very high. The sandwich was good and I did enjoy it. This also make me curious to know where the best Cubano sandwich may be in the Easts Bay, so keep an eye out for more reviews from different restaurants.
(3)Samantha T.
OH MY GAWD. I love this place. I can't convince my boyfriend enough to come down here every time I get a fish taco craving. I first encountered this place during Jack London's Eat Real Festival. Let me tell you...the festival lasted 3 days and I went back every day to get a fish taco. It was actually the first time I ever had a fish taco and I literally fell head over heels. I'm actually kind of glad that this was my first time because I've always heard terrible stories of other having bad experiences with fish tacos. But it's delicious. Just enough crunch, a hint of spice, and oh the crema. Yum! Squeeze a little lime over the top and it's a straight party in your mouth. When I discovered there was an actual brick and mortar it was a wrap. For lent this year, I spent every Friday there getting my fish fix. The line is usually out the door, but it goes pretty fast. You order when you get in, get a number and wait until they bring you your food. I usually get 2 fish tacos, share some chips and guac - and if I feel like splurging on the extra calories, I get a strawberry- lime agua fresca. It is great. If you haven't tried it, you betta ask somebody!
(5)Sylvie A.
Came by for lunch with the family and had our expectations blown out of the water! The ambiance is happy, bright, relaxed, and friendly, plus the food is divine. I ordered the baja fish taco, not expecting much since I am such a fish snob (I am island girl, so I know my fish). Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised - tasty, crunchy, good spice. This is the best fish I've ever had in the U.S. Oh, and the rest of the family loved their dishes too :) We'll be back.
(5)Hannah F.
Skeptical of any "Mexican" restaurant that serves white rice. That place is run by yuppies.
(1)Tazzie G.
I had carne asada tacos and they are Amazeballs. Guac with chips and fried plantains all yummy. The food is a tad pricey but worth every dime for the flavor and food you get! I'll be back!
(5)Aimee V.
This place is amazing for so many reasons but to name a few: Fish Tacos, Ensalada with Fried Fish, Fresh Juices, quick service, tasty guacamole, and outdoor seating!
(5)Matt I.
Great Cubano! I lovely find in the Temescal Section of Oakkand in the 5000 Block. Not only that, but they had Quirt soda imported from Mexico! If you remember Squirt you have a good memory cause I haven't seen it in the Northeat in about 40+ years... Great Mexican with good size portions.
(4)Jessica L.
Fantastic fish tacos!! Be sure and check out the adorable back patio
(4)Michael B.
I had been traveling all the way out to Sol food in San Rafael to get my Puerto Rican fix, so I was very happy to discover Cholita Linda so close by in Oakland. This place has an awesome vibe, and you feel like you have been transported to Central America when you walk in the door. The turquoise walls give off a feeling so similar to Sol food that made it hard for me to believe that the two restaurants weren't affiliated. The hot sauce isn't quite as good as the one at Sol food (my very favorite) but it's vinegar based and has the same orange glow. I have tried everything on the menu at this point, but the real standouts are the Papito sandwich, the carnitas/ fish tacos, and the crispy chicken plate. Make sure to wash it down with an agua fresa!
(5)Maria M.
I always get their tacos at the farmers market which are the best, along with the fresh agua fresca. So I was excited when I learned they have a restaurant. The space is very colorful and down to earth. I feel like you can go there with friends for drinks and food or kids & family and have a great experience. You order at the register then sit down and they always have a steady flow of business. I ordered the chitcharones plate and a sangria. It was amazing! The chicken was fried nicely with lots of flavor but not overwhelmingly fatty and it came with a lovely salad and plantains. The sangria had a sweet hint of cinnamon which paired well with the flavors of the food, it was almost desert like. I really wanted another one but didn't want to wait in line. I will be back here soon! I recommend sitting on the back patio if it's nice outside.
(5)Rita K.
The agua frescas were AMAZING. My favorite part about this restaurant. Upon entering I was amazed by the open space, the bright walls, and the atmosphere. Felt like I was at a different country. You take your order at the front, get handed a number, and find a table to sit. When we went it was pretty crowded and the line took forever to order. Only one person was working the register. 2 for $7 tacos then $3.50 per taco after, choices of fish, chicken, carnitas, or tofu. The tacos are a bit larger than the standard $1 taco tuesdays, so 3 tacos is pretty filling. Out of the choices my favorite would have to be chicken then fish. The chicken was very flavorful and tasty. The fish was fried and the meat portions were very generous. Only downside was the only hot sauce they had was the creamy orange sauce included in the taco already which I wasn't fond of. Wish they had a salsa bar with spicier and tastier hot sauces. The agua frescas of the day were mango and strawberry/lime. So refreshing and fruity! I love the mango flavor and wished they fill the mason jars to the very top. I can down a whole tub of that... Will we be back here? If we're ever in the area, will drop by and pick up a drink! This place seems to be new so I highly recommend for all to try!
(4)Elena B.
If you love real authentic latin food you will LOVE! I compare this place to my favorite San Rafael place Sol and thats hard to compare this was just as good! And even better its close! Got the steak sandwich bread was crunchy but yet so soft., my husband got 1 of each taco he rated it the best fish, chicken, pork and steak... The strawberry lime drink is sooo refreshing and good! We will DEF be here alot! Yay for finding this place..
(5)Terry N.
This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food is made with care, you can tell. The veggies are all impeccably fresh, even late at night, and the combinations of flavors really elevate mundane sounding menu items to another level. On a recent visit, I tried a carnitas salad. The ingredients were simple enough- lettuce, shredded cabbage, black beans, cheese, and carnitas, but it was the sublime combination of visibly fresh veggies, the crispness of the tortilla strips, and the pop of the cheese, that made this dish stand out. Service was fast and efficient, and the backyard was another super-cute find. If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend you sit outside, especially on a rare summer night.
(5)Selina K.
Tacos were okay, I'd go back for the main dishes. The fish taco was kinda bland to me, the asada and al pastor tacos were ok, they all had an orange sauce that made the tacos good tasting but didn't set any taco apart from each other. The real winner of lunch was the chicharrones de Pollo. Omg, crunchy and tasty, comes with a dipping sauce, rice and beans, a salad and maduros (sweet plantains). Also tried the Lomito sandwich which was also really good, with sweet potatoes in it. I will definitely be back.
(5)Teresa R.
good tacos, plates and Aguas frescas. I enjoy this place for a casual quality meal. prices are a little bit more than your standard taqueria, but then again it's on telegraph and caters to a crowd who can afford it.
(5)Madeline N.
The Cubano from Cholita Linda is my favorite thing on this earth. The tacos are amazing too.
(5)Jean-Paul C.
My wife and I enjoyed Cholita Linda's tacos at the Oakland farmer's market every week and were overjoyed to hear that they were opening a restaurant -- finally, we could get our fix whenever we want! (So long as it isn't Sunday) The food here is absolutely fantastic. Fresh, bright flavors with perfectly cooked proteins and the right balance of ingredients -- they never miss. There is a good reason that that we always encounter a line when we walk in here -- the food is absolutely worth waiting for.
(5)Kris L.
We are long time lovers of Cholita Linda tacos from the Jack London Square market. This is our first time at their brick and mortar and it didn't disappoint. My husband got a Cubano sandwich, which my kid decided he liked (he's not a sandwich eater at all). I stuck to the classics, carnitas tacos and fish tacos. The service was a little slow, but that's to be expected when it's busy. Definitely worth a trip to this side of the tunnel for.
(5)Vicky M.
Review from a Latin American The place has a nice ambiance. There is a lot of places to sit inside and outside. We ordered the carnitas tacos and the rice and beans. The tacos were delicious. They have plenty of meat and topped with a delicious spicy sauce. I highly recommend getting the tacos. The rice and beans were a 1 star. They are definitely not considered Latin American. The rice was gooey and white and the beans were not well done. I don't recommend this dish at all. I would not consider this place authentic, but an American version of Latin food.
(4)David Z.
Five star for the food quality and arguably best fish taco I have had.. minus one star because of the price and the wait time..
(4)Emily M.
Arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and half the menu can't be ordered from because they ran out of bread???? Adios Cubano.... For a minute there I actually thought I was in Havana.
(2)David N.
The new restaurant is absolutely fabulous! Fish tacos and a Mexican Coke makes for a Happy Day! Still will be at their stand at the Temsical Farmers' Market on Sunday's!
(5)Veronica A.
The first time I tasted Cholita Linda's fish tacos were at the Jack London Farmer's market and they were divine! Fish tacos: Very good, but I enjoyed them better at the Farmer's market. Chips: They tasted freshly fried it was a nice surprise and they were very good. Guacamole: Also tasted very fresh and it was on point. Glass of chardonnay: It was pretty cheap wine, and I didn't care for it. I should have gotten an agua fresca. Parking was a challenge on a Friday night....
(4)Chad B.
When it was just the stand, I could never put my finger in what regional Latin cuisine I was eating, but the restaurant sets the record straight. Qué bolá, Cholita? I really like these guys and I'm am so happy they got their new storefront. If you frequent Bay Area farmers markets, you have have probably seen the Cholita Linda stands, and you've maybe eaten there too. The menu is very efficient at the stands. There isn't much of a choice but the tacos are good enough to stand on their own. With the new storefront, they have been able to expand heir menu and offer daily specials and the food quality hasn't suffered in the least. If it's your first time, I recommend 1st: fish taco 2nd: carnitas taco 3rd: tofu taco in that ranking. The tacos are all tangy and spicy and complimented perfectly with fresh crema, cilantro, and shredded cabbage. If you are looking for something new I recommend he cubano. Delicious pot, on pork on pork pressed sndwich. The pickle/mustard/pork pairing framed between toasted buttered bread is just spot on. My only complaint is the marinated pork is a little dry but it really makes very little difference as a part of this sandwich, it's got two other pig friends to pick up the slack. The menus pretty safe here. Also, agua fresca!
(4)Ellen Z.
Never heard of the place, but my friend wanted taco and he yelped the place. We ordered two carne asada tacos, two fish tacos and guacamole with chips. Each taco was $3.50. Carne asada tacos were ok, but I wouldn't order it again. I would definitely recommend the fish tacos. Nicely fried and seasoned! The guac was also really yummy and fresh! I believe the chips were homemade too! Service was quick, sat at the table for five minutes and voila, food arrived!! Water, cups, silverware, and napkins are at the table. No need to ask! And when you run out of water, they fill up the bottle for you!
(4)Suji C.
I'm disappointed this place has never showed up in my Yelp searches bc of the low number of reviews. Cholita Linda, me gusta mucho! A hidden gem in Oakland. The fish taco and al pastor taco were excellente. Whatever (hot) sauce was in them made it flavorful without overpowering spice. And the prices are quite reasonable! Plus the ample seating indoor and out makes it accommodating. It's a small detail, but I also appreciated the green glass bottle of water and utensils set up at each table. Just one thing to make dining experiences a bit easier. Instead of Cactus and other mediocre Mexicali foods, come try Cholita Linda!

Great sandwiches, lively atmosphere, friendly staff. We ordered the Asado and Cuban sandwiches. Delicious. Flavors were robust and well balanced. Bread was fresh and perfectly crunchy. El Frescas were fresh and refreshing!
(4)Clelia R.
The tacos were good but really, nothing special. Kinda pricy also.
(3)Olivia W.
Best fish taco of all time -- better than anything I've ever had in SoCal with the additional bonus of not being in SoCal (burn). The tofu taco prepared like the fish taco is also good. Agua frescas are fine, if pricy. I've never tried anything else -- why would I? I struck menu gold the first time out and never looked back.

Trying to find the storefront proved to be a slight challenge for my friend and I. Not from the area, we used the maps app on my iPhone for waking directions, which ended up directing us an extra block down the street. We noticed another group who appeared to also be in the same situation give up, and say into their phone "Mexican restaurants". They ended up walking into a sketchy looking hole in the wall place half a block down from Cholita Linda. I decided to call and get directions. They are located directly across the street from Bank of the West on 49th and Telegraph. Note: 49th street intersects Telegraph, moves down Telegraph about 100 feet, and then is basically an alley, so was probably part of the problem. The other was apple maps sucks, so be sure to use google maps if your in the same situation. This place has some great tacos, but be prepared to pay a premium, roughly $3.85 per taco with tax. I tried the carnitas, al pastor, and fish tacos. The standout winner was the fish taco hands down. On a 10 point scale, I would give the carnitas 8/10, al pastor 7/10, and the fish taco 11/10. Great customer service and the tacos was made fresh very quickly. We will be returning! One star off for the lack of a 'Taco Tuesday' and the price.
(4)Mo W.
My friend said the pricing of the taco is a bit overpriced, but I think it's normal Bay Area taco price. They do put too much sauce on the taco, but the overall all the flavors were combined together really well. It was a large piece of fish in my little taco. I would defintely consider this a go-to taco place - why only 3 stars then? b/c I've had better.
(3)Victor W.
This place is around the corner from work so I figured I needed to try it out. The menu is simple and I had my food within a few minutes. I got the fish and pollo al pastor, which were both tasty. Not the best tacos I have had, but almost. I will keep this place at the top of my list when I need something fast. Maybe next time I will try the tofu taco. I almost forgot, I got the strawberry lime aid, super refreshing, you could taste the freshness.

Time: 12:37pm/72°F mostly sunny Purpose: Came by the stand at JLS farmers market. Owners mother was there doing her part very busy. I wave and she said omg it's been a while. Set-up: Canopy, ice chest, 2 folding convention tables, mobile cookwares, hot food storage containers, jugs of fresh juices, utensils. Staff: A couple of end workers multitaskers working as told. I didn't deal with anyone else only the mother. I unzip canopy walk in said hi she said do you want anything to eat. I debated then hits me saying yes in a sorry sounding voice. Cleanliness: Grade A, nothing to complain here as it a mobile eatery so expect some things not seen to that of the local shop. Eats/Drinks: 3 of their signature fish tacos, tofu taco, freshly squeeze juice. As always the tacos are a hit comes with cabbage slaw, salas rojos, fried tilapia drizzle with white sauce. The fish was like fried chicken strips inserted on two 6'in flour tortillas with a wedge of lime. Tofu taco tasted okay but for a meat eater myself I would gladly pass for some real protein. Juice was delicious nice and cold with puree settling on bottom so stir up. Products/Services: Tacos, carnitas, tofu, pollo, al pastor, carne asadas all taco are $3.50 ea. Sides, chips, salsa & chips, guacamole, plantains, rice & beans, aqua frescas, sandwiches cubano/asado, plates, picadillo. Punch Lines: Local, fresh, family business, fast/efficient, never a problem, cold press juices, inexpensive, lines about 7-10 deep (their stand) only. Farmers market, parking underground garage or street, amtrak, hotels, ATM's, cafes, restaurants, theater, cost plus, bed bath & beyond, Broadway shuttle (no Sunday service), coast guard, ferry terminal, kayak/bike rentals. Tradeoffs: There are others that claim their fish tacos are good but here the taste and quality proves it. Final Thoughts: Tacos are not just tacos it takes someone with experience and skills to put together real tacos. Meaning not the taco bell or JIB 2/$1 type. Here they don't skimp on anything let it be chicken, steak or fish you'll see and taste it, nothing grounded up to conceal the ingredients. I can safely say that I can eat it everyday if I had a choice, probably not as healthy though.
(4)Chris T.
Wowsa! Those are some damn good tacos. The fish taco was especially delicious, but the carnitas was nothing to sneer at.
(5)Julio C.
I am glad to say that my bad experience was acknowledged by the owners and that multiple attempts were made at correcting their initial error. The food is great and the owners are extremely attentive. It was nice that they reached out via yelp and offered to take care of me on my next visit. I went back without mentioning the comped meal and they remembered me as I was picking up food to go and attempted to take care of my meal as I paid, it was great but an apology was more than enough. Great job!
(5)Sydney L.
Short line and super quick service @ 12:30 on a Saturday. Plenty of places to sit inside and outside. Really cute and clean atmosphere. Friendly service and, oh yeah, THE TACOS! Carnitas was probably the best taco I've ever had, fish was great too but not the stand out for me. BIG YAS ALL AROUND.
(5)Casey S.
My friend recommended meeting here for lunch one day. So many great things about this place! Here are the highlights: Delicious fish tacos and really good chips and guac. The best agua fresca I have ever had in the United States. It's fresh squeezed/ juiced and not full of artificial sweeteners. It instantly took me back to my days living in central america. Back patio - on a beautiful day you can sit out here an enjoy the warm weather and cool agua fresca. It's also dog friendly, so bring your pooch! Great food for a good price and friendly service. What more could you ask for in a place?
(5)Champika F.
Best Fish tacos I've had in Oakland so far. The chips and salsa and any of the frescas are also really good. I haven't tried anything else on their menu - but it all looks pretty good.
(5)Joshua P.
I really didn't want to eat here at first but my girlfriend dragged me here. Best dragging of my life!! I swear this place has some great f$%&ing tacos!! I had carnitas and carne asada and the fish taco. Carnitas was my favorite and asada right behind it. * papito sandwhich was not too good. I'm not sure what it was. Maybe the plantain. But that's just me... * ANY AND ALL TACOS ARE GOOD!!! * The aguas frescas they have are sooooo good and refreshing. *Staff is really nice, everyone seems very positive here I come all the way from Newark to get tacos here. And I'm not even a taco kind of guy but these are the best. On my way as I speak...
(5)Riley G.
The sweet potato on the already tasty Lechon Sandwhich ( I am shredded pork lover) is a rare treat.
(4)dave m.
This is how it's done--super fresh ingredients, mad flavor, colorful food. I wish this was back in Seattle, but now I have somewhere to look forward to when I visit.
(5)Yoshika H.
I've hit Cholita Linda a couple of times at Oakland Farmers market on Fridays. Their tacos are good, but it's just a bit too much sauces for me. I've tried their fish tacos and carnitas tacos. I definitely prefer their nice, crunchy deep fried fish tacos to carnits. Maybe I'll just ask for half the amount of the sauce next time. It's good tacos, just not my favorite due to the heaviness of their sauces.
(3)Rachel T.
I live in the neighborhood and come here not infrequently for a quick dinner. I usually get the salad; it's really tasty and MUCH better than your typical taco salad. I have also gotten the platanos which are great! The decor is nice, the service is quick, and the food is fresh!
(4)Victor G.
Cholita Linda at their brick & morar locations offers five options tacos -tofu -baja fish -carnitas -al pastor (chicken) -carna asada eats: baja fish and carna asada @3.50 baja fish tasted very fresh, freshly fried -asada not chewy -both topped with lots of slaw, white sauce -slice of lemon yummy. drill: order at counter, food brought to ur table..free water....
(4)Anh L.
First off, I love tacos. Yes. All day everyday! This place is awesome. It's not you're typical restaurant. You have to order the moment you walk in since the cashier/ordering station is there. But there are plenty of tables to sit after ordering. The atmosphere is very laid back with a beachy feel. All the tacos are priced the same $3.50 each, which is awesome because I love fish tacos. Most places charge a bit more for the fish tacos. They have other tacos as well: carnitas, carne asada and pollo. Every single one is delicious. They also serve aqua frescas oh yeah! Mangos Passion, Strawberry Lime and Blackberry! Best part is that those drinks are served in mason jars! Almost forgot, their hot sauce is also superb! My family and I went here two nights in a row
(5)Laurie H.
Hmmm....I'm not quite getting the ecstatic reviews. Let's see - the fish tacos: they're fine. I'm not sure why these are the best things ever for some....I liked them well enough and would order them again....but I'm surely not going out of my way to get down here for them. $7 for two is fair (although I do find it weird that the menu states the minimum order is 2. Why? What if I had a small child and they wanted one fish taco? Thank goodness I don't or that would be a problem.) The plantains were perfectly cooked....just the right texture and sweetness. However, it was $3 for what I believe may have been one plantain (they call it "5 pieces" on the menu). That's crazy. And I'm just going to chalk up their closing at 9pm on Friday night to their "soft opening" hours as stated on their website. Even in uber-suburban Montclair, restaurants don't close down until 9:30....and even that makes me crazy. This is Temescal - I'm thinking they'll gear up to stay open later....right? Right? Oh I gotta be right.
(3)Larissa W.
Delicious! We ordered the Pepito Sandwich. It has steak, plantains, cheese and aioli. We also had the cubano sandwich, carnitas taco, fish taco, guacamole, chips and a side order of plantains. All of it was really good but the winning dish was the carnitas taco. Their guac was also my favorite. I would have given them 5 stars if it weren't for the wait to order. But I definitely will be back. Soo good!
(4)R B.
Neighborhood jem. I'm so glad that they moved in a few blocks away. The fish tacos are incredible, the agua frescas delicious (especially blackberry), salad filling and tasty. I haven't tried many other things. The perfect casual spot for when you don't feel like cooking. The back patio is a big plus too.
(4)Jen W.
You can't go wrong with anything you order from here. I appreciate the house made chips and guacamole. Most places these days taste like the chips are straight out of a bag... This place is so delicious. Be sure not to pass up on the strawberry lime fresca.
(4)Heather J.
This review is in regards to a take-out order and service. It's ~9pm on a Tuesday. Me and my partner are trying to find a place to pick up some food. Ah! Cholita Linda is super close and open until 10pm. Great. Try calling their number, and we get put on hold...for 7 minutes. In the meantime, we assume they forgot about us, so my partner starts submitting an online order. We hang up and try calling them back just to see if the order went through. The man on the other line immediately puts me on hold without waiting for a reply. Rude. I'm frustrated at this point, so I hang up and call again. The lines are busy. (I found out later they have 2 phone lines, and apparently when I hang up, it just keeps the lines busy.) I keep trying to call for the next 5 minutes, and they never realize both lines are busy. This means I would have been on hold for more than 10 minutes on that first call. I decide to just drive there and wait on my bum twiddling my thumbs until the food is done. I arrive 10 minutes after submitting the online order (the online order form said it would be ready in 25 minutes). There is no line when I arrive, and no one at the counter. After waiting a minute, a woman finally comes up to help me. I ask her if there is an online order they received for us, and I was about to tell the lady I tried to call and confirm, but she cut me off and said it was already ready. Now I'm pissed off. So if I had arrived when my order was supposed to be ready, it would have been stone cold (food wasn't under a heat lamp). In addition, don't cut me off when I'm trying to talk to you! This lady goes off to get a drink we ordered, and another man (I assume the one who put us on hold) asks me to pay. Rage mode is fully activated. We had already paid online, fool. At this point, I try to tell him about the problems with the phone, but he just keeps speaking over me, "I'm sorry, ma'am." You know dude, I would have believed you were sorry for your bad customer service if you stopped to actually listen to my complaint. Rude. Rude people everywhere. (He did eventually check the phone though, so my 20 minute hold was finally ended...yay?) I begrudgingly take the food home. Gave us the wrong types of tacos. Found a hair in a taco. Chicharones de pollo are good. The black beans were more like black bean water...it was like they ran out of beans, so they just filled the cup with left over murky black bean water. Negative points on the food. Guess what, man. Your tacos aren't worth $3.50. They're a solid $2 at best. Maybe $1 with the hair in it. You have a lot of rude dudes working over there. Get it together.

3.5 - It IS good, but why the 4.5 stars? That's a rave review, people, and getting a little out of hand. Cholita Linda is a solid spot with a couple of standouts. Guacamole: 4.5 - Very simple but really goddamn good. Tacos (fish, carne asada): 4 - Delicious. Rice & beans: 2.5 - This is the biggest disappointment for me. The dish is generously portioned but horribly under-seasoned. It's nothing like your standard taqueria beans and rice, but it also fails to attain the intensely seasoned, soupy, South American style, presuming that's the alternative they were going for. (If it sounds like I'm obsessed with rice and beans, that's because I am.) Agua fresca: 2 - Way too sweet, wouldn't order it again. Tasted fresh, though. Salsa: I wouldn't know, because it's $3. Come on, Cholita Linda. Salsa should be free, at least for the first round.
(3)Daniel L.
Delicious, simple, fresh Mexican food. One of the few Mexican restaurants I thoroughly enjoyed, yet didn't feel like a complete fatass after eating my fill. Shared a fish taco, pollo al pastor taco, rice and beans, chips and guac, plantains and blackberry agua fresca. Everything was done well. The chips (a major criterion for my mexican food judgment) were fantastic. The rice and beans were simple (black beans and white rice), but memorable. I will go back next time I'm in town. 5 stars = would go out of my way to go back.
(5)Sara D.
I first experienced their fish tacos at the Temescal Farmers Market and was thrilled to find the restaurant! They are the freshest, most delicious fish tacos I've ever had! I can't bring myself to order anything else! Highly recommend.
(5)Darren A.
Really great combination of Cuban and Baja in one place. We had the Fish taco, Picadilla (with black beans, rice and plantains) and Fish plate. All were excellent, but the fish tacos were FANTASTIC! I'm definitely crossing the bridge from San Francisco more often to come back here. Definitely 5 stars!!
(5)Jillyan S.
This place is amazing. We had fish tacos which were flaky and delicious, nice crunch on the batter and just the right amount of salsa for that kick I want. But the cubano, oh the cubano!!! Perfection in a sandwich. Grilled perfectly with extra cheesy goodness. The ham and pork were just the right amount of salty and balanced well with the mustard and aioli. I didn't even mind the pickles which I generally despise!!! Good job cholita Linda!!
(5)Clarissa B.
Cuban Sandwhich was amazing. Food was excellent. Place is more of eat and go kind of place.
(5)Ander C.
Best fish tacos I've had here in the bay area. Yes they are about $4 each but man are they good. All the ingredients are fresh. The fish is well breaded and comes out hot. The white and red sauces go perfectly together and really make the fish taco special. Wanted to just eat 2 but couldnt resist getting a third. If you like fish tacos then you have to come and check this place out.
(5)Leonie S.
Came to Cholita Linda based on the high Yelp review score and WOW, I was not disappointed! The line was long, then again that is the sign of a good spot (ie: deal with it). I told the super friendly cashier that this was my first time to Cholita Linda and he gave me some fantastic recommendations: chips & salsa, beans & rice, Baja fish taco (and I threw in a tofu taco too, just for good measure). What I want my fellow Yelpers to know is that the quality of the food is second to none. Taste is super fresh and amazing! Tastes like someone's Abuelita whipped up a storm in the kitchen... And this is what came of it. Food made with love... *Bueno*
(5)Shamina K.
Mmmm... Fish tacossss!! I look forward to my Friday strolls over to the Old Oakland Farmer's Market. Not only do I get to make my picks of farm fresh produce, but I also get to get my fix on the fish tacos at this stand. I normally grab one of their fresh juices to chase it down. Well worth the $10.50 for 2 tacos and a drink. Best lunch of the week!
(5)Newton L.
"What is love?" Throughout history, people have asked this question; and apparently the answers have not been satisfactory because the question keeps getting asked. I'd like to think of love as a concept so beautiful it extends beyond the written word. Here's my attempt at defining love: Go to Cholita Linda. Take a bite of their fish taco. Those warm fuzzy feelings you're getting in that very moment? That, my friends, is love.
(5)Timothy W.
I originally had plans of Curbside Creamery after eating dinner here. However, after finding out how much delicious food was in store for me here, those plans will probably have to be put off for the moment. This was a filling, satisfying meal. Me and my gf started off with some chips and guac, which was on point. Guac had a nice, appreciative kick to it. Right as we finished and started hankering for more, as if on demand, another round was brought to our table! Unexpected, but definitely not unwanted. We continued feasting. The tacos (we tried fish, carne, pollo) were delicious and about what I expected from a taqueria with four and a half stars. What blew me away, however, was the asado sandwich. It was much bigger than I expected. Everything was warm, melty, made me want to never stop eating, ever. Incredible experience. I am gonna get another one for dinner on the way home from work one day soon. We tipped for the extra chips and guac and were on our way. Also of note-the sangria, while pricey, was quite good. Not too strong, but you could definitely taste the wine. Almost like fruit juice.
(5)Mitoon D.
This place is amazing!! I usually come here with my coworkers during lunch. I get the fish tacos and an agua fresca. The tacos are actually pretty filling. I would say 2-3 tacos is a good amount. The frescas are really refreshing, and you can even ask them to mix the flavors together. They have plenty of seating, and a really cute patio area in the back. It's also fairly cheap, so that's a great plus!
(5)W Bill S.
The prices here are ridiculously high for the same quality food you can get in similar restaurants. The service is not that great either.
(1)Alfredo M.
First time trying the fish taco today because they were at the Oakland Farmers market and it was way better than expected. I wasn't really hungry at first because I had two tamales from a nearby stand but once I bit into the fish taco I got hungry again. The balance of the fried fish and sauce was perfect. Also got their passion fruit and mango fresca and that was really good too and refreshing.
(5)Mikey S.
Had a post Christmas lunch here with my lady. We had fish tacos and split the pork sandwich. Everything was on point including the chips with guacamole. Sit outback if it's a nice sunny day.
(4)Robert B.
This place is the bomb. Awesome tacos and sandwiches. Casual dining with serious food at its finest! Don't forget to try the agua frescas or the sangria!
(5)Jamie S.
Everything was delicious. Chips, guac, agua fresca, tacos...all very good. The standout, though, was truly the Asado sandwich. Oh my god, it was incredible. It's beef, cheese, aioli, and caramelized onions all pressed between crispy, toasty bread. The portion is huge and that makes it hands down the best value on the menu. I love the patio seating in the back and the buckets of silverware and water on every table made it easy to dig in as soon as the food came. We came on First Friday and it was pretty busy, but the food came out in great time and we still found seating easily. When we left, the line was out the door so if you want to beat the crowd, go before 7:00 pm.
(5)Rob B.
three fish tacos. two sangrias. one love. just filling in space now cuz they said my post was so short that it would be posted as a tip. i thought it was damn poignant. you know, drop the mic type ish, but whatevs, just eat here. it's bomb, and temescal is a cool place to eat.
(5)Tiffany N.
I first tried their tacos at Eat Real. While I sampled quite a few things at the food festival, this is the only place I thought worth tracking down after the festival. These are some amazing tacos. Carnitas is delicious, but as everyone else has already pointed out, their fish taco is just the best taco I have ever had. Every once in awhile I come across food that really raises the bar and unlocks new possibilities I had never imagined before. Cholita Linda has done that for tacos. I don't normally pick sea food over land food, but this fish taco is a must try. According to Yelp, the brick and mortar store is closed on Sundays. But if you're really craving a good taco, you can find them at the Temescal or Jack London Square Farmer's markets on Sunday morning. Prices when I saw them at the farmer's market were $7 for two tacos or $10.50 for three (sadly buying more tacos does not result in any type of discount).
(5)Michael P.
Don't be deterred by the line out front. It moves quickly as it is: order, take your number and seat yourself, then your food will be brought to you. Food was delicious. I ordered the Picadillo with black beans, a couple of pieces of maduros. I ordered an extra side of maduros because I like them so much and I had a glass of Sangria. Everything I had was delicious but I have to mention that the flavor in the beans was very good; I would order just black beans and rice if I wasn't fearful of an unwelcome side effect. Friend had fish tacos which he said were excellent. The patio out back is an enjoyable option on a nice day.
(5)Margaret H.
Still my favorite place to eat fish tacos and get great agua frescas in Oakland. This time I brought my 23 year old son. He says, "Oh, wow. These are good." Which was quickly followed by, "Oh. I wanted to take a picture of these but I ate them all..." This place is run by folks who made their way to a storefront from a food truck. They know how to maintain consistent quality. Sat out in their back patio and it was just perfect in October. The front counter is slightly faster than before and always friendly.
(5)Lindsey R.
Yum, yum, yum! Does that pretty much sum this place up? The fish tacos are the tits. The only place I have had a better fish taco was in Ensenada, Mx! I have only had the pleasure of the fish tacos thus far, but I'm sure I'll eventually get around to trying more of the menu! 5 stars Cholita Linda!
(5)Allen J.
For vegetarians this place is simply mediocre. There is a veggie taco option, the tofu taco. I was looking forward to it considering I was starved all day. The tofu had little taste or seasoning although the cabbage and sauce toppings helped pick it up a bit. The guac and Mexican sodas were definite highlights!
(3)vi c.
Amazing amazing!!! Best Cubano sandwich around the bay, took my first bite and it was like heaven. Every bite was super satisfying and I have been craving a Cubano sandwich ever since I've watched the movie CHEF and this restaurant took me to another country the ambiance was extremely welcoming and comfortable with a nice breeze, I felt like I was on a vacation eating a delicious Cubano sandwich. I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving something like this, their tacos are amazing as well, It has a special sauce on it which was different and packed with a bunch of meat. My favorite was the fish tacos!! Must order. I also got the mango passionfruit drink ahhhhh soooo refreshing, I fell in love with this place. Will be a regular here
(5)Ethan P.
Just so damn good just so damn good just so damn good just so damn good just so damn good just so damn good just so damn GOOD!!!
(5)Julien S.
We came here for dinner last night. The tacos were very good: we tried the fish, the carne asada, the pollo al pastor and the carnitas. They were all good but my favorite was the carnitas. With that, we ordered a side of fried plantains that were absolutely amazingly tasty. And yet, the best part of all of this was the aguas frescas: mango/passion fruit and blackberry/lime. They were insanely good and refreshing and come in large glass containers. Was awesome. The service was also very friendly and fast. and it was pretty cheap too. Also, we ate on the outdoor patio. It was cute and nice and when it got a little chilly, they turned on the outside heaters. I'll definitely go back there.
(5)ELena H.
I can't really say enough good things about this place. But I'll try. Their ingredients are very fresh (they even roast their chicken in house) and all of their tacos are topped with fresh cabbage, radish and baja sauce. The tortillas they use are top quality- they are soft and flavorful. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every taco I have ever eaten there (which is all, excluding the tofu one). And my mouth is watering as I type this. Their aguas frescas are extremely good and made fresh. They also are now serving sangrias and beer by the bottle. Their sweet plantain side dish it perfectly done- the pieces of plantain have a carmelized exterior. I have also had the taco salad there which I would highly reccommend. Their salad dressing is light and perfectly balanced. The salad is hearty- especially if you get it with chicken like I did- and well worth the price.
(5)Shaneka S.
I ordered two steak tacos and three fish tacos for me and my daughter to share. With a fresca and side of guacamole with no tip I spent 26 something......but I must say I was very pleased. Everything was fresh, the steak wasn't tough and even though the tacos are small they were overfilled.....because this place is a bit pricey I dont see myself dining here every week but I would come on a night when I'm craving tacos and dont wanna dirty an already clean kitchen....lol
(5)Leah A.
Yeah, so my dreams came true and they opened their brick and mortar restaurant -- and it's just minutes from my house. The menu has expanded (they even have a vegan dessert!) and the restaurant is cheerful in bright. LOVE this spot.
(5)Cristina R.
Very good food and services. The chicharon de pollo is awesome and of course you have to try the agua fresca
(5)Stephanie W.
I have now eaten here 6 times (it's a block from where I live). I have gotten take-out 5 of the 6 times. 4 times the food was so SALTY it was inedible and had to be tossed. 2 times it was salad with grilled chicken. Twice it was 2 tacos (1 carnitas, 1 pollo) - I couldn't tell if it was the slaw or the meat that was over-salted. The chips had so much salt you could use them to make jerky. Not even any commercial bagged chips have so much salt. OTOH, the picadillo plato my housemate has ordered was fine. I have gone in-person to give feedback. I was a chef for 11 years. I cook all the time, from-scratch, and I don't eat a lot of packaged food. The only thing I can think of is that their cook lives on cheetos and cold-cuts and thinks this level of salt is normal. I will not ever eat there again, or get take-out.
(1)Luna R.
It was ok, I ordered a fish taco, had way too many sauces on it, you can't taste the fish at all, the fish is fried, they had a creamy chili sauce on the fried fish then on top it had the cabbage and that had a creamy white sauce on it , if the fish was grilled maybe u need more sauce, I get a great fish Taco at Baja Fresh and it comes grilled and with avocado, chips and salsa, here you have to pay extra, very hipster, there is a REAL Mexican restaurant two doors down
(3)Dorothy L.
Slight price increase. It's now $3.50 for a taco. It used to be $3 for $10. More meat options as well. I saw carnitas, chicken and steak? I tried the carnitas and did not like it. My favorite is still the fish taco and the fresh aguas fresca. Enjoy!
(5)Jeannie D.
I actually used yelp to get me out of my "I'll go to the same place 15,359 times before trying something new" rut. And OH MY GOD am I glad I did. I didn't even look at the menu, I just ordered the fish tacos b/c yelp said they were bomb. And yelp was right. I also got the strawberry agua fresca (sadly they don't have horchata)...and it came in a huge jar (think prego spaghetti jar size) and was fresh and delicious. I will totally go back, at least 15, 359 times.
(5)Sarah M.
Really nice outdoor seating. Nice family business and quick service!!! :) they play good music too!! The older man who works here is so kind
(5)Michelle W.
Best fish taco I've ever had. I used to live close to one of the farmer's markets Cholita Linda frequents and would order their fish taco a lot. I look forward to visiting the store front now that I won't be going to the market anymore.
(5)David L.
Food: 4 Decor: 3 Service: 3 Came here for dinner after watching Guardians of the Galaxy at the Emeryville AMC. 1. Baja fish taco 3.5 ~Pretty good. 2. Carne asada taco 3.5 ~Pretty good. 3. Mango agua fresca 3.5 ~Really good. A bit sweet, tasted like fresh mango. 4. Guacamole and chips ~Really good. Service was pretty fast.

When I'm with the ladies I order 4 fish tacos and take them down like a champ. When I'm with the boyfriend I order 2 fish tacos and dream about the other two and wish I was there with my girlfriends.

New favorite place! Everything was soo flavorful and bomb.com thank you for making my day! Good work to the chef, staff and the owner of the restaurant!! Open a location in SF!

It really bothers me that there's no posted menu. We had to get almost all the way to the front of the line (we asked the people in front of us, who were at the register, to pass a menu back) before seeing it, which made me feel rushed to decide and which is a feeling of crowdedness I don't like. This place is alright but the servings are a bit on the small side for the money. ($3.50 is a lot for a single taco, and the tacos aren't all that generously filled. We bought four.) There were no chips and salsa, which I think of as the norm for places like these. The decor is nice, that the guys cleaning (tables?) are walking around with dirty-looking wet/drippy dishtowels is not (some dripped onto my leg. Ew.) I didn't love the table where we sat--the top was nice and it was wood but the amount of distance between table and chair was so small that my legs were pressed into place by the part of the table beneath the tabletop. Super uncomfortable. I'll likely be back at some point but it'll just be if I'm too lazy to go anywhere else and feel like tacos.

So I fell in love with the Aguas frescas first. I can mic them up and have yummy fruitfulness??? Yes, thank you. I tried the fish, chicken and steak the first time I came here. They were all so good, but the fish is heavenly! The next time I came I tried the guac and chips. The chips were crispy and perfectly salted. The guac was super flavorful and delicious. I have also tried the Cuban sandwhich. All the flavors of the Cuban blend so well together. I have been telling everyone I know about Cholita Linda! I love it so much!
(5)Sara B.
Never had anything that wasn't good from here. Our favs are the fish tacos and the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban is probably the best one I have ever had, and what we compare all other Cuban sandwiches too. Also the mango passion fruit Aqua fresca is phenomenal. The restaurant atmosphere is very open and airy with high ceilings and large plants and lots of natural light. Overall this is a great place and one of my favorite restaurants in town.
(5)Paul P.
The food was very nice and I thought the lunch would not fill me up since I hadn't eaten breakfast and was starving but it did me nicely. The back patio is an especially nice spot to meet somebody and talk.
(4)Madhuri K.
Had their fried fish snapper. Came with pickled red onions, white rice, black beans and plantains. Thought every single bite was delicious- and ate every last morsel. It also came with a side salad- but I ended up being too full to eat it. No reason for a deduction of a star- just thought I would wait til I tried something else on their menu. Not a fancy spot- casual dining. But what I had was a great meal!
(4)Art O.
I had some of the best fish tacos here a few weeks back. Very crispy but moist on the inside. The portions were good-sized and the price wasn't too high. Friendly and quick service in light-filled environment made it a enjoyable meal. I will be back for sure.
(4)Eka J.
Just had my second meal at Cholita. Both meals were very satisfying. So stoked to have a higher-quality taqueria in walking distance from me. The pros: -great fish taco, Cubano, guac (good portion) -warm staff -menu that includes Cuban -environment is a clear notch above most taquerias -quick service -great little outdoor patio for quietude and privacy Cons: -no wifi yet... Thanks Cholita!
(4)Rick B.
Today went to the Oakland Food Festival and had a fish taco from Cholita Linda. It was so good I went back for another. Living in San Francisco...I will come back to Oakland to eat some more of Cholita Linda's excellent flavorful food. Was impressed by the cashier because he remembered my name.
(5)JJ T.
Regular customer. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Just strike up a conversation with any of them. Above all, food is flavourful, decent portions, and looks appetising. Usual order consists of the chicken tacos with chips and salsa. Definitely recommend stopping by to pick up a bite, if not there, then order to go. Great for snacking on later in the day.
(5)Andrew H.
Really tasty, with several vegan options. * Tofu tacos (hold the crema) * Fried plantains * Rice and beans * Guac and chips I've been here four times so far, and I'm enjoying these items just as much now as I did on the first visit. Great preparation and ingredients. Good service and nice rear patio, too. Highly recommend.
(5)Emily C.
Love this place and the fish tacos. Friendly and quick service, affordable cost, great location, and delicious food. My husband loved his sandwich here and I have gotten the fish tacos several times and really enjoyed them. Parking can be found on either Telegraph or Shattuck fairly easily.

As a newbie to the neighborhood my bf says over and over again, "I know a nearby place that does an awesome taco salad". Um? No. Taco salads mean greasy tortilla bowls filled with all the sadness. You know---shredded iceberg lettuce, cheap cheddar cheese, etc. After opting to go elsewhere for weeks I finally looked into his big puppy eyes and agreed to give this taco salad a shot. Holy shit, I was so wrong. He insisted that we get the steak and oh-my-goodness. The lettuce is fresh mixed greens, the cheese is cotija, and there isn't a tortilla bowl in sight. Oh, and it's enormous. On the next visit I got the lechon sandwich. It's a crispy, creamy, porky, big-as-your-head, fall-apart-in-your-mouth yummy. The bright colors and spacious back patio round out this as my new favorite local spot.
(5)D F.
In addition to fantastic service, their Cuban Sandwich is the best I've had since Miami! As a Cuban from Florida I know the sandwich very well and was utterly impressed by their rendition. I'm already thinking about my next one :-) ¡Que Rico Cholita Linda!
(5)Ariana V.
delicious tofu taco that is easily made vegan (no cream). the spicy red sauce is so good and kind of makes the taco itself - comes with two tiny soft tortillas and cabbage slaw. the restaurant itself is vibrant and cute, with long communal tables and a tiny patio.
(5)Henry Y.
we happened upon a line out the door of eager customers after record store shopping next door, but kept walking...then overheard a couple walk remarking "I think this is the fish taco" place". hmm, couldnt ignore the buzz. an about face later, we found ourselves on the outdoor patio in back with a snack of a couple of fish tacos. while taking a photo, our baby reached in and grabbed a handful of slaw and put it in her mouth! we loved it just as much as she did! and the fish was as fantastic, perfectly cooked and meaty. so the three of us shared the 2 tacos and then I got sent back to the end of the line for a second round! the next round in addition to more tacos, we also tried the plantains and the aqua fresco. the plantains were perfectly cooked. nice comfortable airy space, good counter service, and top notch affordable food. an unbeatable combo.
(5)Salvina B.
The food here is very good. I've had their tacos at the Jack London Square farmers market and at their new restaurant in Temescal, and it's consistently good. The decor is simple, bright, inviting. Fish tacos are great, al pastor is also good. Plantains are awesome, as are the chips and salsa/guac. I've even had the chicken salad, which was really flavorful and the chicken was juicy. Get your taco on!
(4)artemis k.
Best fish tacos ever. The salad is mighty tasty, too. The woman who owns this place is the best, after meeting her it's easy to understand why everything tastes the way it does here. It's all made with care and love.
(5)Melissa C.
Great food, my only complaint was the serving sizes ended up being on the smaller side but the line was so long it wasn't at all practical to get back in line to order more food. If I lived nearby I'd gladly order food to go from here.
(4)Sam W.
If you've ever wondered why there's always a line out the door... It's really just because the food is delicious.
(4)Claire W.
Delicious food, pleasant service, and delightful ambiance. This has to be one of my favorite casual places to eat. Get the fish tacos!!!
(5)Adrienne G.
Superb! I great addition to the neighborhood. Fresh ingredients and tasty tacos. I have really liked everything I have tried here. Go!!
(5)Tim H.
Love your restaurant, great service, vibe, but please stop serving Tilapia. It is full of GMO's and chicken feces. I will return when you switch to Snapper or some other wild fish. Thank you! realfarmacy.com/why-you-…
(3)Sarah A.
FYI - this is not a food stand unless I'm missing something. But it is a cute spot to get very delicious fried fish tacos. Carnitas tacos were okay and I like my guac a bit chunkier but still good. Simple dishes yet so so yummy. Order at the counter and then take your number to wherever you want to sit. We chose a nice spot on their back patio. Overall, I really liked it and we had a nice lunch. Oh and your food comes out super quick! *thumbs up!*
(4)Sophia K.
So good. Everything about this place is on point. The mango passion fruit is the BEST. Tastes so fresh and it's not super sugary either. I usually get their tacos. They are always so nice here too. Definitely go
(5)Edi L.
Great food, highly recommend the fish tacos; it literally tasted like the fish was swimming in my mouth DELICIOUS. Ultra fast service as well.
(4)Moni M.
I LOVE OAKLAND! This cute lil' Cubano Cuisine spot is awesome. I ordered the saladw/ carne asada (rice extra). It was wearing a wonderful light vinaigrette. It was delicious! Only thing missing is CAFE CON LECHE!!
(5)Karen H.
Amazing fish tacos just about as good as it gets. Totally worth a try if your in the neighborhood
(5)Karl N.
Their fish tacos are simply crispy, well portioned and delicious. In fact all their tacos rock. I have only had their tacos. I'm in a rut. A delicious, delicious rut. I also like that there is still water just chilling on the tables. And their agua frescas never disappoint. And it's across the street from where I do laundry. Cool.
(4)Rin M.
Drove all the way from Fairfield, by way of Vegas, to come here for their Cubano sandwich. Let me tell you, this was tied with one other place for the best thing I ate this trip. The bread was nice and crunchy on the outside, with the right amount of chew on the inside. The roast pork was HELLA good and the cheese was nice and melty! It was so good I had to order another one to eat while I wait for this plane back to Vegas tonight! If you come to the Bay and you want to taste the best Cubano around? Look no further!
(5)Shayla E.
OMG, everything is fresh and awesome!! Everyone needs to try this place, everything is GMO free, what more can you ask for??
(5)Paula F.
Best food in Oakland best tofu tacos! Love this place! Expect a line but it moves quickly.
(5)Jim B.
Had a great lunch there, 2 carnitas taco's with a Mango drink.
(5)Sarah O.
Everything about this place makes me happy: the decor, the music in Spanish playing throughout the restaurant, the staff (especially the cashier dancing to the music!) and then, there's the star--the fish tacos! YUM!!! At 2 for $7, this is one of the tastiest bargains in the area, and the trip to Temescal is well worth it. All of the food, including the mango-maracuya agua fresca, tasted fresh and delicious. I also tried a pollo taco, and while it was also tasty, I didn't think it was in the same league as the hot, crispy, well-seasoned fish. The sauce used on the fish tacos is spicy and adds just the right amount of kick. If there's a better fish taco North of San Diego, I'd like to find it because I'm not sure anything can compete with these. I cannot wait to see what other offerings they add to their menu after their soft opening. I will be coming back to check it out, and of course, eat another fish taco (or two or three)!
(5)Betty S.
Cholita Linda popped up on temescal with their brick and mortar shop. The restaurant was clean and the decorations really brings me back to a South American tropical vacation. They have large communal tables, a potential patio, and plenty of sunlight. The tacos are $3.50 each. I ordered 2 fish tacos and a pollo al pastor. The fish tacos were really amazing. The taco's veggie on top was a great compliment to the fried fish. My friends ordered the tofu taco and they were also surprised by how well it was flavored despite it being tofu. I also got to see the salad and it was enormous. Not quite sure how it tasted but I will have to try it next time. I really liked their dinnerware set up. The waters and cups are already in the middle of the tables, they have huge mason jars for their aqua frescas, and the silverware are in these little reused kettles. The entire setup on the wooden communal tables just makes you feel like you are part of a community on vacation. Can't wait to come by on another sunny day!
(4)Jennifer C.
Very excited to find a good latin place close to home! And cheap too! For my husband and I to get away with spending $40 on dinner out is amazing. I saw one person was complaining that 1 taco is $3, but I had the carnitas tacos and they were pretty hearty. I had two tacos, an order of plantains and we shared chips and guacamole and I was full. My husband had a fish taco and a carne asada taco and he said both were good, but the fish taco was better. He also had an order of plantains. The wine and beer we had was probably a third of the bill, so I thought it was a pretty economical meal. And it was delicious! The service was friendly and the ambiance fun. We'll definitely be back.
(5)Joel W.
My friend told me about this relatively new taco joint on Telegraph Ave right down from my work. Have gone there several times since then and I have not been disappointed. While they serve sandwiches and tacos and a few other things I stick with the tacos. My fav are the al pastor ones. Could eat three or four at a sitting. Chips and guacamole are also good with the guac nice and creamy.
(4)Rachel P.
I fell in love with their Pork and fish tacos at the Temescal farmers market, and now love the full menu at the restaurant! The Lechon sandwich is perfection. And the restaurant is very kid friendly.
(5)Emily S.
I needed a caterer for a 100-person event in the Berkeley hills. The road was so steep no taco trucks would consider it, and other caterers were intimidated. Murat at Cholita Linda took the job even though it was smaller than their usual. Communication was great leading up to the event, no problems. The food was excellent and exceeded my hopes (we were skeptical about tofu tacos as the vegetarian option, but they were delicious!). The catering staff of 4 were professional, friendly and efficient. They have a very tight operation - the food was fresh with no line and no waiting. Everyone was satisfied, and it was great working with these guys.
(5)Kathy L.
Finally got a chance to try their tacos after having bookmarked them for aaaaaages, thanks to the Eat Real Fest a couple weekends ago. Bf and I got a pork and fish to share, and I liked the fish best, which is what they're famous for anyway. I liked the sauce, but it's not my favorite fish taco. After all the hype and wait, it didn't really live up to my expectations, but it also didn't necessarily disappoint. I'd say, don't go out of your way to try their tacos, but if you're in the area, go!
(3)Rob H.
You haven't been here? Oh you gotta change that. The tacos, salad and tortas are incredible plus the ambience is fun. You won't be sorry.
(5)Jon D.
Register moved a bit slow, the girl needs to pick up sense of urgency... Nice ambience , you pay and then they bring you the food, super clean, AMAZING food! Best Cubano sandwich I've ever had! Amazing tacos and make sure you grab one of their fresh juices... I asked for the chef to compliment the food. And I think the prices are reasonable considering how good the food is.
(5)Lisa G.
Wow! Fun atmosphere! I loved this bright colored, family style restaurant. I felt like I was sitting on a family member's patio for a fiesta! Delicious food!!! They have indoor seating, tables on the street, and tables on a patio out back. First, order and pay at the counter to the right. (I got a taco pollo al pastor with rice and beans). Then take a number and choose a spot to eat at. They'll bring your food and it is sooooo flavorful, fresh, and beautiful quality!!! $20 for a soda, 3 tacos and 2 sides of rice and beans. Money well spent. I will go back for sure!!!
(5)Cheri L.
1/19/15 First time ever in my work world I had MLK Day off. It was my day to explore. I had heard great things about Cholita Linda's and was not disappointed! I had a very yummy salad and sangria. Fresh and flavorful...on both counts! It seemed like many others around me enjoyed their meals as well. Crowd never let down the entire time I sat in the window looking out on Telegraph! :)
(5)Dan P.
Just had the Cubano and I think I want to get an apartment with it
(5)Krystinne M.
Cholita Linda My my your fish tacos are Mmm delectable! Guacamole dip And fresh, fried, crispy chips you Are the perfect pair Ugh. What can I say about Cholita Linda?? Their food is amaze balls and totally worth the wait. My fiance got their special cubano sandwich and it was good to the last bite. It was like a tostada, but the bread was panini style, with just the right amount of ooey, gooey, cheesy goodness. I got their breaded fish taco and pollo al pastor-- my god, those tacos were delicious. The cabbage they put on top with the sauce made the taco that much better. Cholita Linda, you would have gotten 5 stars, but the wait for dinner made absolutely no sense... It wasn't that busy for a Tuesday night. Overall, I would totally come back again. #yum.
(4)Megan D.
This place is my taco spot! A teensy on the pricey side for the size, but worth it for the quality. The carnitas are my personal favorite. Service is super friendly, the ambience is beautiful, and you shouldn't miss the pretty, heated patio. Oh! And the aguas frescas. Especially love half mango and half blackberry. Would love to give a fifth star, but I'll hold off until their vegetarian options come up.
(4)Bryan M.
Just had the Cuban sandwich which prompted the review. Holy cow. Amazing. Get in there and get one. I dare anyone (that knows Cubans) to write a bad review of that sandwich.
(5)Jennifer P.
We had high hopes for Cholita Linda, and they were fulfilled. We got tacos, cuban, and chips and guac. All were wonderful, our favorite item was the fish tacos. The aqua fresca was also wonderful. Go now, i'm sure anything off the menu is great!
(5)Eric C.
Great place, amazing food. If your looking for a taco or a torta this place will definitely cure a craving. The Cubano sandwich is a must and the hot sauce is rad it teminds me of the same sauce over at Sol Food.
(5)Victor C.
Best tacos in the east bay. My girlfriend doesn't usually like tacos but we came back two nights in a row.
(5)Daniel S.
I've loved the tacos at the Jack London Farmers market for a couple years now. Also Cholita is super sweet. Now they have a restaurant in Temescal, so I can walk there from home. The restaurant is very tastefully designed and operated. The food is even better at the restaurant. Very tasty, high quality affordable Latin food in Temescal. Perfect.
(5)Hello D.
It's a little weird that the place is decorated just like sol food. The tacos were ok - I think the blatant sol food rip offs might have set me off? I know that seems unfair, but I crave more originality for such a great space and location. Even the ticket numbers were straight copies of sol food. You would think the owner would feel a little embarrassed about that, but I guess not.
(3)Andrew S.
Pros - Fish Tacos Meh - Carnitas Cons - Price - Variance - Parking Parking is usually pretty difficult around here. The fish tacos are the best that I've ever had. The carnitas taco is okay. It's 7 for 2 tacos and 3.50 for each thereafter. I've come on two occasions and the first time they were huge. The second time, not so much. The agua fresca is okay but it's okay to pass if you're not a huge fan of sweet drinks. I would recommend 3 tacos if you are hungry. This place is a nice change of place from Taqueria Sinaloa.
(4)Brittany M.
Great tacos! I'd order one of each kind! Carnitas is my favorite. Their salads are on point and the agua fresca is so quenching
(5)Javier M.
I've had the fish tacos at the off the grid and jack London square events and they are excellent! Their fresh juices are also delicious.
(5)Miss E.
SO Good! Fish tacos are on point!!! Also get one of the fresca drinks. My favorite is the strawberry lime flavor. Mmm!!!
(5)Jessica W.
Walking through the Old Oakland Farmers Market on a Friday, you might wonder what that one really long line is for. The answer? Cholita's tacos. Are tacos worth $3.50 each and 30 minutes waiting in line? These ones are. Most people swear by the fish tacos, but I prefer my fish grilled, so I go with the tofu tacos. The tortillas are soft and warm, the tofu perfectly seasoned, the cabbage fresh and crisp, and the red sauce is to die for. Top it all off with a cold lime and mint aqua fresca and you'll be in lunch heaven.
(5)Mary Elizabeth H.
This place is legit! Salad is huge. Reminds me of a taco salad with warm beans and a white cheese dressing. Rice and beans are simple and done well. Chicken taco is grilled perfectly. Bf says the Cubana was sooo good.
(5)Cathy N.
Absolutely delicious! Salad, tacos, sandwiches, guacamole - I love it all. Quickly becoming one of my top spots to take friends visiting from out of town. And don't miss the small patio out back for a lovely dining experience.
(5)Suzie R.
Tofu taco yumminess!!!!! So glad this place moved into Temescal!!!! Great place to get filling, tasty, inexpensive lunch. I've had the chips, salsa, plantains, beans and rice. All soooooo very good-full of flavor!!!! Also the aguas frescas change daily!!!!
(5)Ayele A.
Just had the best fish tacos from their booth at the Eat Real festival in Jack London Square in Oakland. So good but it's always closed whenever I try to go to their main location in Temescal
(4)Ruben D.
So I love the food right. I make a trip every single Friday to the farmers market with my wife, sister and about 6 coworkers to buy the fish tacos. NEVER have I had one bad experience... until today. Even if some mistake was made or whatever, big deal. Right? There is a new girl in the taco assembly line that may be the reason I never return. So my wife ordered 4 fish tacos from the owner, who we haven't seen in months. She even remembered my wife's name :) Well, after our order we noticed about 7 people that were in line behind us get their meals (never has this happened, i thought it couldn't be the new girl? She couldn't be that dumb to not be able to keep chronological track of something.) So I walked over to her and asked if my wife's order was ready yet. I was actually very nice about it. The new girl/brat, rolled her eyes, looked at me for 2 seconds, and very rudely said "God we're moving as fast as we can." I felt pretty embarrassed and shocked that a patron that has been frequenting this vendor religiously for a year and a half was treated like this. The woman in the assembly line behind her, she's always been there, looked embarrassed and let me know that our order was coming up in a very professional way. Customer after customer after customer were called, and we had no food. The lil brat then finally pulled our order from the string they hang them on and called our name. She "apparently" (I'm quoting the "Apparently Interview Kid) bypassed our order ticket about 13 times and decided to grab it when it was the ONLY ONE LEFT. So, I walked up to her when we were FINALLY called and as soon as I extended my arm to grab the plate from her hand she dropped it on the table. She's actually very lucky that I was starving because I would've cream pie'd it right back in her face if I didn't want to waste a delicious taco on a 20 year old girl that is about to turn 10. I don't know about you, the reader, but LACK OF GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS MY #1 REASON FOR NOT RETURNING TO A FOOD ESTABLISHMENT. Never, ever, ever, have we had a problem until this lil girl was hired and I refuse to order anymore food from Cholita Linda if I see her again. It takes A LOT for me to bite my tongue and not flip on someone like that and it ruined my lunch time. My wife and I are very loyal customers and have zero problems spending our hard earned professional money on great businesses. This disturbed me so much that I decided to Yelp review. I am very close to telling my family, coworkers and entire office to choose a nice lunchtime over one that comes with horrific, hoodrat customer sevice. Sorry Cholita Linda.. Hope that lil brat you hired wih the mole on her chin doesn't cost you anymore customers. You were better off with the awesome staff you've always had. FYI: I used to be a 5 star review customer.
(1)Natalie N.
Love this new spot! The interior is cute and the perfect answer to a taco craving. I ordered the Picadillo and I thought it was delicious! The Aguas Frescas was a non alcoholic drink and the size was nice and large in a mason jar. The cashier was helpful and really friendly. Overall a good spot for a bite to eat that won't break the bank!
(5)Erin G.
What I ate: Tacos de carnita, pescado y tofu; mango aguas frescas Visit date: May 13, 2012 First time? Yes The fish and tofu in the tacos are fried. The fish was good fried, but I would have liked the tofu grilled. It may have enhanced the tofu flavors a bit better, and it would have added some nice grill marks for presentation. The fish was definitely my favorite of the three tacos. It had a mystery orange sauce on it; that's probably what made it good. The mango aguas frescas was served with lots of ice. It was sweet and light -- perfect for this sunny day.
(3)Eric C.
Convenient to pick up some tacos at the Jack London farmer's market but I don't get the hype. We tried the fish, carnitas and tofu tacos and they were all underwhelming. The fish tacos are good but nothing different than what you could get at Rubio's. There's a ton of cabbage on top of the tacos that are mainly just a filler. The main thing was this place lacked flavor. It'd be nice to have cholula or even just regular salsa, pico de gallo or guacamole on top - any kind of sauce! Bringing your own sounds ridiculous but I would recommend it.
(3)Margaret D.
I love this place! The food is delicious and flavorful without being heavy like Mexican food can be. The people that work here are all super sweet. The food always comes out really fast too.
(5)Melissa M.
Killer Cubano sandwich! Partner had the Lechoñ sandwich, also really good. The Agua Fresca had a bit of a watery flavor, which was really the only off point. Outside seating is very pleasant for smaller groups, and inside there are large family style tables. Totally will come here again.
(4)Ankita T.
The food is overrated. The tacos I ordered (steak and chicken) were both mediocre. The service was great and so was the strawberry-lime juice.
(3)K H.
Historically great food but today very dissapointing service. We ordered and paid online but when we showed up they didn't have bread. You would figure dish availability would be built into the online service or at the very least a phone call to let us know would've sufficed (why else would you need our phone number?). A drive across town, no food and no apology.
(2)Rick H.
Had the fish tacos today, out of control bomber good. Best I've had. Prices are really reasonable for the quality.
(5)Adam O.
Ok they just served me raw fish... since it's the special of the day and it was obviously frozen just prior to cooking it was complete opaque through the middle...not even close.. i can't trust a place like this... they just stare at you like your some wierdo who eats cooked things... they need a lot of practicing on someone else and positive results before I'm going back... went across the street where the far more honest seeming staff treats you like a friend they are serving.. not to mention very good tasting ingredients...If you want to feel ripped off with the other cool people in line head straight here.. they will be glad to smile in your face... After that you fend for yourself....
(1)Kourosh B.
Cholita Linda. Truly beautiful. Get the fish. My roommate just ordered the sandwich for pickup.. Man they know what's up. Also the place is super clean and they got a nice outdoor seating. It's the place to go for Latin American comida.
(5)Ajay P.
Get the fish tacos. Nachos are good as well - fresh warm and tasted perfect..
(5)Morayo I.
I Love Cholita Linda. Everything they serve is great. My favorite is the fish taco & the salad. I wasn't even a fan of sangria until I tasted theirs. Great prices, Great portions, Great service.
(5)Heather W.
Beautiful and tastey! I had the Baja fish tacos and aquas frescas (blackberry lime soo good)!
(5)Sareena D.
I love this place. They have the best fish tacos I have ever tasted. I also really like the fruity drinks and beans and rice. Great place.
(4)Tom B.
First timer at this place. The food here is very fresh. I had 3 carne asada tacos and they had a slightly tangy medium spicy sauce, somewhat like an orange sauce... REALLY BOMB. I'm usually a 3 taco dude but I think I'll do 2 next time, the portions are large. Sat on the patio which was very nice. Staff is friendly and the whole place is clean. Cholita Linda impressed me.
(5)Pineapple C.
This place is highly rated for a reason. It's great, reasonably priced, and has a chill atmosphere. Wish there were more gluten-free options. However, I can deal. Awesome outdoor seating with heaters. Being able to eat outside (comfortably!) on a chilly Oakland night... priceless.
(5)Boots H.
I've eaten here for lunch twice - and both times the food was delicious. Nice patio in the back to sit and enjoy the sun (although both times there was noisy construction also going on). The fish tacos are tasty, and the snapper special is special, indeed. Worth a trip to the Temescal, for sure.
(4)Brendan W.
The Cubano...oh my God! I am a white boy from new England but I spent five years in Tampa and Miami... Around many Cubans. I've eaten more Cuban sandwiches than burgers in my life and its safe to say this one is in the top ten. I won't go on about it, but if you've never had one do try it: just know that none will ever compare. A bit pricey at $12 but worth it. Once you've had one, you'd be happy paying double for the next! PS...no coffee here which is a bummer, make your Cuban brew at home!
(4)Andrew M.
This is the only yelp review I have ever written. I love cholita linda that much. I'm from San Diego and know great fish tacos. These are the best fish tacos I have ever had in my life, hands down. Not only that but their restaurant is amazing and has a lot of variety. Make sure you get an agua fresca.
(5)Sallyann P.
I love tacos. Yes oh yes I do, and lets be more exact here, I love fish tacos, and I have yet to find MY spot for fish tacos, and I've been living here in the bay area all my life. I look at all these photos from all these Mexican joints down in socal and salivate over the images people post of their food and wish with much might that some place would open up here and norcal and the TACO GODS HAVE ANSWERED ME! (haha) If it was acceptable I would eat here everyday but I need to be thoughtful of my boyfriend who doesn't love tacos as much as I so....I try to keep it to like 4 days a week. (mehehe) I mean what can you hate about this place, the food is amazing, and you can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients. The ambiance is so lively and the staff absolutely amazing. I love this place!!!!
(5)Marie S.
LOVE the fish tacos. The spicy sauce they put on them is amazing -- they should bottle it, so I can take some home. The aqua frescas are great too, so refreshing. I always feel this place is worth the wait, whether at the storefront, or at a farmer's market. Even when they expand their menu, I will still eat only the fish tacos. haha... Their brick and mortar location is beautiful. I love the colors they've chosen, and the large community style tables.
(5)Sai K.
Loved this place! Their fish tacos were delicious and the service was nice. Loved the ambiance, felt like I stepped into a mini vacation during lunch.
(4)Linda T.
Their fish tacos are a MUST try!! I absolutely love it!!

Enjoyed: Had a chicken salad for lunch and was pleased; fresh, with a nice presentation. I like that they offer tofu as a choice for some of their dishes as I'm a sometime'zy vegetarian. Not so much: It would be nice if they offered complimentary chips-AND rather than having open bottles of water on the table, it could or should be served as people are seated. Let me 'xplain. I asked for water when I ordered. The cashier said there was water on the table...I heard her but in my mind I thought she meant they will bring water to the table. when we sat down there was indeed a water in a repurposed wine bottle (that's the new thing and I dig it) the bottle was half filled and I thought "oh, the table has not been serviced from the last customer". Then I looked around at the other tables and there were bottles on all tables some filled, some half filled, some near empty. The light finally comes on and I realize that this is suppose to be our water!...No, no, no. When I confirm with the staff this is suppose to be our H20 they are like "oh, its low let me refill it for you". No, no and HELL no! I am not that trusting-I'm not about to drink out of some open container that's just sitting around, are you kidding. When I voiced my concern the waitress, she KINDLY brought us fresh water in our own glass and all was kool. Overall: Aside from the chip charge and the potentially infected, laced water-food was good, service great and the prices appropriate. I'll be back and I hope that they really do rethink the standing water bottle.

I got takeout for lunch here today. Two tacos, one fish and one carnitas. Absolutely delicious! Perfectly cook pork and tasty crispy fish. The sauce is really good too!
(5)Katinka P.
Completely amazing tofu tacos! And the agua fresca is delicious too. Can't get enough.
(5)Jak K.
I've tried to bring people here four times and each time they are closed because they have weird mid day break hours. It's too bad cause I like their food but I'm giving up.
(1)Lucy S.
So good! Get the Papito sandwich and the plantains. Very good and lovely outdoor setting. We will be back for sure.
(5)Ruby K.
This was one of my favorite stands at the Temescal Farmer's Market and I'm so glad they got to open a restaurant! Now I don't have to wait all week for those fish tacos. The decor is adorable too, you can tell they put a lot of effort and thought into the space. What a great addition to the neighborhood :)
(5)Stephanie S.
Went to Cholita Linda for the first time last night and it was AMAZING! They have exceptional service to start off the experience. Then the food, is crazy good and super fresh! Everything we had was delicious; the fish tacos, the salad, chips & guac and plantains! I will be coming back next week : )
(5)J L.
So delicious! I've now eaten almost all of their tacos (except the tofu), 3/4 sandwiches, chips n guac, plantains, and several agua frescas. Everything is tasty and fresh and the sandwich portions are really filling. I recommend sharing unless you are really hungry or an over-eater like myself. We met the owner's mother who is Peruvian and really sweet. A family-run restaurant that makes delicious "Latin American" cuisine...ie. not just tacos. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!
(5)Isaac D.
Truely incredible. Some of the best fish tacos I have ever eaten. And the mango/blackberry drink was amazing. I went at 11:30 on a Saturday for lunch, and my food was ready before I could finish sending a text. This place is a must.
(5)Michaela T.
Along the same lines as most of the other reviews, their fish tacos are awesome. The tilapia is perfectly fried - crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It's dressed up in cabbage slaw, radishes, cilantro, some cream, some sauce, some salsa, and a squeeze of lime, all resting together in a double layer of corn tortilla. Definitely worth the long lines and the kinda pricey $3.50 per taco. Their carnitas tacos are also very tasty but not really as worth it to me, since there are a million random taco trucks in Oakland that will probably have the same stuff for way cheaper. Overall, very good food. Dependable lunch spot at the farmer's market!

Today I'm sick in bed so I'm probably going to go on a run of places I have needed to write about but was too busy. This place however I have no idea why I waited so long. It's been my Friday ritual at work yet I have neglected you Cholita. Well it took a sore throat and a Yelp message to direct me to write this review. It's a pretty simple one though. Best Fish Taco's I've ever had. I don't even like Fish Tacos that much but I love these ones for some reason. Balance and flavor come to mind when I think of these tacos. The Pork Tacos she has there (I'm assuming this Linda person is a she) are very good as well but the Fish is what drags me back week after week. The agua frescas are delicious and refreshing as well. Hard to complain about a place that does something so well that I come back for week after week but I will just cause I want to. This place is so good that it makes me mad they don't have a restaurant that I can sit at. I have to walk back to my office knowing full well I can't sit and enjoy till I get back. Sure they have chairs in the farmers market but they are always taken. I stand too but that's no fun either. Hopefully a rich investor reads this and buys this lady some chairs for all of us so my lazy ass can eat these tacos in immediate comfort. Oh the lines are long so go early. Did I mention they make great fish tacos?
(5)Summer L.
Is it gentrified? Is it "inauthentic"? Maybe it's just a chef and their crew being creative? And maybe it's a little pricier not just because of the whole Temescal phenomenon but b/c the ingredients are higher quality than other places? Does any of this matter if it's just damn good? I walk by here all the time, but for some reason it's sort of blended into the background in my imagination . . .or maybe I unconsciously judged it as being gentrified latin food. . . .sorry Cholita Linda! I only tried it at the Farmer's Market a coupla weeks ago b/c I was starving and I thought tacos would satiate my hunger. I had the carnitas tacos and they were yummy. . . yummy enough for me to look harder at their actual restaurant menu. Today I ordered a Cubano. OMG! The size of it should actually last me for two meals, but it's so good I can't stop eating it! Seems like they really thought thru their menu and everything on it is solid tasty goodness. . . And I don't think the price is so crazy for the amount and quality of meat you get. If I mention why would anyone go across the street and eat a dry chicken sandwich when you can have a juicy sandwich here that would make like 3 or 4 now Yelp reviews where I bash the BB fried chicken sandwich. I don't mean to be an asshole. I just really don't get the hype and the line over there. Go to Cholita Linda and have a juicy sandwich people.
(5)Josh B.
One of our new favorites. Delicious fish tacos, home made chips and guacamole, and tasty fried plantains. Reasonably priced. Clean bathrooms to boot! Fast, friendly service. On the downside, they could use some softer finished surfaces to dampen the noise, but that's not a reason to avoid this place. Try it!
(5)Pam B.
On the recommendation of the cashier, I got the Papito sandwich. It was the best sandwich I've had in a while, which is good, because the last fantastic one I remember having in the area was at SLOW, which sadly shut down recently. The sweet caramelized onions played on the sauce, cheese, and steak nicely, and the bread was the perfect casing for it all (and apparently there were also plantains and arugula involved, which must have given it the rest of the subtle balance of flavors) . I also got a blackberry-lime agua fresca, and it was the perfect amount for my meal - it didn't fill me up too much, nor did I finish it before I finished my food. I would definitely come back here and try most of the other things on the menu.
(5)Bianca V.
The Baja Fish Tacos are indescribably delicious! The steak tacos are a very close second. A coworker referred me. She and her boyfriend had gone and enjoyed their food. I decided to try for lunch. Their staff is friendly. Service is quick. Beautiful decor. Love the feel of the place!
(5)Madeleine T.
Sometimes I decide which weekend farmers market I'm going to based on if I want Cholita Linda's tofu tacos for breakfast. Sometimes I get Cholita Linda's tofu tacos for breakfast three weekends in a row. I love that they always have a vegan option and that if you're placing your vegan order along with a non-vegan order (my omni sweetheart loves the fish tacos) they ask if you want them on separate plates. Yes, please, I do! Maybe I'll get tofu tacos for breakfast four weekends in a row.
(5)Victor M.
Best tofu taco I have had. Anywhere. Great ambiance, fun neighborhood, near one of my favorite tattoo parlors.
(5)Samantha L.
I was excited as soon as we walked in, and I saw the bright paint, sky lights, island music, plants... This is my new favorite local place! Fresh ingredients, speedy and personal service, lively ambiance, and of course, great-tasting food. Our group got the fried snapper, guac, plantains, a Cuban sandwich, fish tacos, a berry drink... And everyone loved their meal. I love bitter greens like arugula, but if you don't, take note that their salad and sandwiches contain some sharp, bitter greens.
(5)Amanda B.
Great fish tacos, fast and friendly service, best guac and chips, and fresh aguas frescas. This is the perfect place to grab lunch during the work week because the line moves quickly and there's plenty of seating for the lunch rush. I come here once a week!
(5)T W.
My wife and I tried this spot last night and will be back for sure! I had 2 fish tacos, she had 1 carnitas and 1 chicken taco, we shared rice and beans and plantains, and each got our own agua frescas. Amazing!!! Totally hit the spot. Total bill price was about $29. Not bad at all, especially considering its location. Very glad we tried this place. I highly recommend.
(5)Nakisha R.
I get the fish tacos on Fridays at the Oakland Farmers Market. Delicious! Fresh, and flavorful! Always a long line to wait, but the service is fast, they keep the line moving.
(5)Kevin N.
AWESOME FISH TACOS! I tried a fish taco here at Eat Real Fest 2012. It was probably one of the best I've ever had. They give you a generous piece of perfectly fried tilapia. Crisp on the outside but still moist and tender on the inside, so BOMB. It came with cabbage slaw, radish, crema, cilantro, and lime juice which all complemented the taco very well. Best $4 I spent that day.
(4)Johanna M.
Nice location - bright and friendly. Loved the tacos although my side of plantains nearly stole the show. Yummy aqua frescas, too. Great spot for a casual lunch!
(4)Chris O.
I love me fish tacos from So. Cal and have been searching for years in Northern CA for the perfect fish taco, 13 years to be exact. Cholita Linda is it! Winner! Lightly battered flaky fish and it's temperature HOT, wrapped in a soft tortilla, with COLD cabbage, and topped with a delicious dressing. Freshly made chips and guacamole is a must order too. You can taste the avocado in it, not overdone with sour cream or salsa.
(4)Jessie X.
I work down the street and Cholita Linda is my new go-to spot when I'm on my lunch breaks. Super fast and friendly service, relaxing atmosphere (because I'm all about the atmosphere at a restaurant!), fun authentic music playing, and a great cozy patio out back. Everything I have tried here is delicious, I would come back here for the fish tacos again and again!
(5)Paul N.
Awesome little place little touch of Cuba and Mexico combined. I had the chips and guacamole which were fantastic, the carnitas taco was exceptional and the fish taco was wonderfully at like Tim said. I especially enjoyed the atmosphere the community tables and everybody who worked there looked like they were enjoying themselves working there.
(5)Tim W.
I've been wanting to try this place forever, but have never had a chance to make it out to the Farmer's Market at Jack London. Luckily I did have the chance to go to Eat Real and finally got to try their tasty tacos. I got one fish taco and one of the carnitas tacos. Both were very tasty and I love the crunchy cabbage on top. I preferred the carnitas taco because the meat was more flavorful and there was a hefty amount on such a small taco. While the flavor was spot on, the tacos are a little on the pricey side. I know that pretty much all these food truck tacos are around $3, but I honestly can't justify paying that when you can get similar quality tacos in East Oakland for $1.25 each. 5-6 tacos is usually a meal for me, so I'm looking at a ~$20 meal compared to a $7 one.
(4)Garrett R.
Crazy tasty. Fried plantains are excellent says joe. The Cubano was good enough to write a love song about. This place is now my jam.
(5)A L.
Yum! Fish tacos are gooood. Fried plaintains off the hook, and their aguas are yummy! We have been going here since it opened like every day! My wallet needs to take a break! I have not tried anything else.
(4)R T.
tofu tacos were the best i've ever had
(5)Eri S.
I first had their veg tacos at outdoor festivals and was happy to see they opened a brick-and-mortar place. Tried the tofu and fish tacos - very tasty. The agua fresco was refreshing and fruity, not one of those cups of sugar water with a little color. Others at my table was happy with their meat tacos that I didn't try, but apparently the winner was the Cuban sandwich (did not taste). Everybody else agreed that it was the tastiest version they had ever had and said they were getting that next time we're back. They have big tables in the back and a patio that would be great on those rare wam summer evenings in Temescal looking forward to returning.
(4)Carlos C.
Really good fish tacos, the flavor is amazing! Friendly staff and great ambiance! A new favorite
(5)Mike L.
Our own little casual pan-latin eatery knocks it out of the park. Ambiance transports you to Panama and is tropical but breezy (a great relaxed feel). Everything here is delicious. The tacos are already famous, with soft perfect tortillas and fillings such as the legendary fried fish, with just the right amount of spice. Chips and guac (home fried and home made) are another standout. The real treat, as I was pleased to discover, are the sandwiches. Cracker-crisp bread, moist and flavorful, multi-dimensional fillings. I thought the Cuban was great, but the Papito, with beef, cheese, caramelized onions, plantains, and arugula was a true revelation. The only downfall is that they often run out of bread during dinner time :(. The aguas frescas are also great (and come in huge mason jars). I typically cut them with some water to take down the sweetness (which also results in 2X the drink volume!). What a wonderful place to have in the neighborhood.
(5)Lily W.
Tasty, consistent, good and fast service and ample seating. Pretty hard to beat.
(4)Jenn B.
As a San Diego native, I consider myself an expert on fish tacos. I've probably had hundreds in my lifetime, from many, many taquerias and fancy restaurants in my hometown. At the Oakland farmer's market, this was the only stand with a line. I tried ordering just one taco to try but they only sell them in sets of two or three, and you can only pay with cash. I ordered two tacos and one of their agua frescas of the day, which happened to be organic melon. The cantaloupe drink reminded me of a traditional Filipino drink, minus the long strands of melon. The tacos were pretty good and probably the best I've had in the Bay, but definitely don't compare to the ones back home in my beloved San Diego. I think $3.50 is steep for a fish taco of this size, but farmers market food is usually priced higher than the usual taco spot.
(4)Vanessa W.
Eat the carnitas tacos. That's what I did at least once a week while I lived nearby.
(5)Rob C.
baja fish taco and al pastor -- not traditional. crema not like a baja taco from east LA. was ok overall.
(3)Zanziba R.
My advice for this place: 1.Use slightly larger tortillas. Small tacos piled high with slaw and crema are too hard to eat with your hands, get really messy, small thing but a deal breaker all by itself. 2. Expand the menu a little, like at least have burritos - you already have all the makings...3. Have some free salsa available. Ya, be a little bit more like a regular taqueria - a nice version. You guys have that a little too gentrified and minimal (aka stingy) thing going on. Food is indeed tasty though. Attractive place too.
(3)Eric P.
Amazing fish tacos and now a storefront.
(5)Chilly G.
Just walked in and already, I can't stand how loud the friggin music is. I want to be able to talk to my friends but with everyone yelling over each other, it's impossible. Haven't even tasted the food and don't know if I can stay. Sad, these ceilings are very high which carries the sound even more so. I wish you all the best and may you have hearing in your 40's.
(2)Leighliana J.
I dream about Cholita Linda's tacos when I'm on the east coast, a barren desert wasteland when it comes to Mexican food-Shredded chicken in tomato sauce does not quite do it for me. These tacos, however, are delicious-I've tried the carne asada, pollo asado, and carnitas, all of which are fantastic. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the Temescal area. My only complaint is that the chips are $1.50 extra, and come in a tiny bowl-not ideal for sharing or scooping their fresh guac. The outside patio is super cute and sunny-perfect for a girls' night out or casual date night.
(4)Tony T.
Order the fish tacos! The sauce is soooo good and the fish is very crispy. I love the decor and colors on the walls, I feel like I'm in another country whenever I stop by
(5)David L.
Epic fish tacos "Baja tacos" to be exact. I destroyed three of them no problemo. The chips n salsa were not free, were definitely delicious but c'mon now, this is ridiculous, $2.99, really?! Yucca fries are quality, cooked properly and comes with a good sauce. All in all I'm coming back for the fish tacos hands down
(5)Carrie L.
So, for the area this restaurant is a 4/5. I say "area", because multiple crack heads kept lingering by our table during our entire dinner. Mind you, we were just trying to live... and eat. Besides the dirty tweakers, the food was excellent. The fish, steak, and tofu tacos were all LIT. I guess it's alright that they don't have burritos and chips cost extra... the tacos made up for it. Last but not least, their sangrias are ON POINT!
(4)Cass W.
Delicious tacos and nice casual place....now if they can just add more interesting vegeterian taco options, this will be my favorite Mexican restaurant. My favorite veggie taco menu is offered by C Casa in Napa. Would be great if you can add more staff to take orders during your busy times as that long can definitely get a bit too long.
(5)Rachel Ann C.
I tend to be wary when trying out new taco joints. It seems that there is ALWAYS some taco vendor at any street fair, farmers market or food truck rally, and I'm usually satisfied, but not in love. Cholita Linda was another story. This review is for their food stand. I wound up in Jack London Square during the 3rd Friday night Jack's Night Market and, looking across the couple other vendors, they called to me. Their tacos are simple: braised pork, fried tilapia or crunchy tofu. 2 for $7 or 3 for $10.50. I ordered one tilapia and one tofu and that was that. My order came out and I was definitely pleased with the size of the tacos. For $7 for two tacos and for being street food, it was a reasonable price. And both were DELICIOUS. The fried tofu taco was just my favorite. I tend to be picky when ordering tofu tacos 'cause they can be hit or miss, but the tofu itself was pretty big and they put a generous amount of cabbage/veggies on top with a delicious orange creamy sauce that gives it good flavor. The fried tilapia/fish taco was yummy as well, and they both seemed to mesh well together. Squeeze on some lime and you've got yourself a good meal. Easily satisfying and pleasing. I'd love to order again. It tasted VERY fresh, clean, simple and yummy--just how I like it. No complaints here. Now wait, they have a storefront too? I hardly ever find myself in Oakland, but if I do, I wouldn't be surprised if their restaurant tasted even better than their street food. Yummm.

Growing up in San Diego, Mexican food was easily accessible within a few blocks of wherever I was at. GREAT Mexican food at that! You name it, carne asada burritos, carnitas tacos, chicken tortas, etc. But, fish tacos? If it wasn't from Rubios, I didn't have it. For whatever reason, I never got into fish tacos until I moved up to the Bay Area. And, Cholita Linda is the reason. I first had Cholita Linda's fish tacos at Eat Real Fest in Oakland. Eat Real Fest is a festival that has many exhibits and stalls that aren't food-related. But, come on, the name is Eat Real Fest! Not Jewelery Real Fest, Juice Cleanse Fest or Time Share Fest. There are a ton of food vendors in stalls and food trucks. We already went thru Senor Sisig, Homeroom, Sataysfied (great name), Pietisserie, El Sur Empanadas, El Porteno Empanadas, a grits cart, some popcorn vendors, and a cookie joint. Don't worry, the cookie joint was organic, so it was healthy. Right? Never mind, don't answer that. Could we really go for a fish taco after all that? Well, come on, would I be writing a review if we couldn't?! =) Glad we did, too! Because that was probably the best thing we had all day! Not to say all the other stuff wasn't good (some weren't though). Because a lot of it was great! But, man, I never knew how good a fish taco could be! The fish was fresh as were the toppings. It was so simple, but so delicious. I needed to have them again! Well, it didn't take too long to open up the brick and mortar location. I will admit, I haven't went in there yet. But, I'm sure the fish tacos will still be amazing! BTW, we still had room for some frozen custard at another truck. I mean, come on, just look at my Yelp tagline.

Cholita Linda seems to be the new hip spot for tacos, salads, torta-style sandwiches and other Latin American dishes located right off of 51st and Telegraph, not far from Bakesale Betty and right next to the shopping center where Genova's is at. Be prepared, the line seems to stay at a steady 15 to 20 minute wait the whole time I was there on a Saturday afternoon. After ordering and paying at the cashier a numbered buzzer is given to notify us when the food is ready. There is plenty of seating inside the restaurant to choose from, as well as a few tables outside to enjoy the weather on a nice day. The food comes fairly quickly, much faster than the actual line to order the food. We ordered: Baja Fish tacos: it's simple, a deep fried chunk of fish with a light shredded lettuce and sauce. It's a decent sized taco, nothing mind blowing but satisfying enough. Asado Sandwich: this was my favorite, a delicious "Peruvian roast beef" they call it, along with arugula and cheese. It is a very tasty sandwich. Chicharron de Pollo plate: deep fried chicken thighs that resemble chicharron, black beans over rice with a side of salad. I also enjoyed this dish, everything worked well together and the little sauce they serve with the dish is excellent. The service is efficient and friendly. I've heard from others that the salads are large. There seems to be a large variety of items for vegetarians like tofu tacos etc. Overall I think Cholita Linda is an excellent spot for a casual meal.
(4)Erich V.
The Fish Tacos are good. The Guacamole is good. The chips are thick and there's lots of seating.
(5)Thielson D.
HUGE fan of this place!!! The tacos are perfect, nice size, fresh ingredients, very flavorful, especially with that orange sauce that they have. Usually get baja, carne asada and pollo al pastor. Tried the picadillo plate and it was great. I'd definitely get it again if there weren't so many other things on the menu that I want to try, like the sandwiches. Also, be sure to get the yucca fries. Mouth watered as I wrote this. They also have a stand at one of the OTGs at the Presidio from what I understand. I usually just get it whenever I'm around Oakland and have NEVER regretted it.
(5)Jose M.
Cholita Linda's got it going on to the point where they don't need anymore reviews. I mean, their food is so freakin good....I don't even know what to say about it. Now that I think about it, this "review" is almost a waste of time and shouldn't even be labeled as a review, so I'm just going to give you some advice.... You've seen the stars. You've seen the pictures. If you can't stop by their restaurant, catch them at the Old Oakland Farmers Market on Friday's, or the Jack London Farmers Market on Sunday's. Their farmers market menu is limited to a few items, but they're all so good and full of flavor that you'll be mad your stomach is full from a couple of tacos and you can't eat anymore.
(5)Josh T.
Its hard to find the words to describe how much I love this place. If you've never been, Cholita Linda is an upscale taqueria. The decor and music have a tropical feel, but it's the food that *really* transports me to my happy place. I am a taco lover, but never have I had a taco that rocked my taste buds like these. In a word, they are sublime. The flavors sparkle and scintillate across my palate like like unicorns and faeries frolicking in some ancient woodland meadow. The flavors are so bright and dazzling that I feel like I am transported to some tropical paradise even on a cold day in the dead of winter. And I'm not just bullshitting here. The food really is outstanding. My favorite are the chicken tacos. They are seasoned and grilled to *perfection* and then graced with an orange taco sauce that adds a wonderful heat and flavor to the meat. Then they're topped with crunchy cabbage and a drizzle of sour cream to add texture and bring everything together. The result is culinary nirvana. The tacos are a bit pricey but worth every last penny. They're also quite filling. But it gets better! For me, their agua frescas are an integral part of the meal. The Strawberry/Lemon is my favorite. It enhances the tropical flavors of the tacos and compliments them *perfectly*. There are a few other agua frescas as well, Blackberry/Lemon and Mango/Passion fruit if my memory serves me correctly. They also have Mexican sodas if you like, but trust me when I tell you that they pale in comparison the the agua frescas. The sides dishes are simple, but tasty. I've tried the beans, the salsa, the guacamole, and the chips. All of them are a cut above the usual variety. Dessert-wise, I love the coconut pudding with the Mango/Passionfruit sauce. Its light and fruity and like everything else it fits in perfectly with the vibe of the place. My girlfriend swears by the fried plantains. Overall I give Cholita Linda a perfect score of five stars. Everything comes together so wonderfully. No other place I know manages to integrate every aspect of the dining experience so well. It truly is something magical.
(5)David C.
Had the Chicharron de pollo again, and even better than the previous 4 times. These chicken rinds are delicious, they are deep fried the right amount to they're Crunchy but not crispy. The salad has an amazing arugula with Caribbean spices vinaigrette dressing and the black beans are nearly as good as Güely's my grandmother. The sangria is good and the variety of fresh Frescas (refreshing fruit juices) is always delicious. The papito is a meat and cheese lovers dream sandwich and yucca frita fries are delicious and always just ripe enough with an accompanying mustard jerk sauce that compliments it very well.
(5)Sarah M.
It's just awesome! Go often and try the whole menu, don't forget to get the fresh juice.
(5)Lori T.
Not knowing much about the Temescal area within Oakland, and not knowing anything about Cholita Linda, I found this place a charming little gem- complete with delicious food. The menu is simple and authentic, which I appreciate. Price is great, too. Shared the Baja Fish Taco, Carnitas Taco, Carne Asada, and Pollo al Pastor Taco, fried plantains, and chips and guac. The Carnitas and Carne Asada Tacos were fantastic- simple and delicious. Next time, I'll get 3-4 of my own tacos though. There was a bit of a line, which I think it pretty standard. Especially since it's order, get a number, get your food, go. Nothing fancy but well worth the wait.

So after a recent trip down to mexico, I had been craving some delicious tacos. I have been searching all up and down the west coast and still have many more to try but this place being so close to my home, was a spot I wanted to check out especially with the high reviews. We made our way over after parking on Telegraph and walked in. The joint has a casual and hip vibe to it with great music playing in the background. The idea is to go to the counter after perusing the menu, and start ordering the different types of food you want. After you order, you find a table to sit with your group and they bring the food out to you as cooked. After perusing the menu and yelp reviews, we decided we had to go with the tacos as our primary dish. We ordered a one of the Baja Fish, two of the Carnitas, two of the Asada and then the chips and guac while drinking the Aguas Frescas. We sat down and I was excited to eat some delicious tacos. The food did not take too long to come out and was quickly brought over with the chips and guac coming out first. The chips and guac were solid with it being on the thicker side which I appreciate. I personally like my guac to be a bit chunkier so not my favorite but solid. The tacos were soon to follow with each of the protein in the middle, a large helping of cabbage and the same sauce topped on each. We started taking bites of the various tacos and this is where I got confused. Maybe it was just because I had the freshest tacos available to me not too long ago in Mexico but I thought these tacos were just OK. The protein in each was fine but I thought there was too much cabbage and I felt the sauce was overdone. The best out of the various types of tacos we ordered was definitely the fish as everyone mentioned but it just seemed like fried fish. Again OK but not the best ive had. The freshly squeezed juices were good and again I loved the vibe. These tacos just didn't fit the exact type that I had just had so a bit of subjectivity to be considered. Still a spot I would check out to grab some quick food but I will still be on the search for "the real deal"
(3)Dee V.
Amazing food. Super fresh. There were different salsas with each dish and they complimented the dish perfectly- well paired. We had the Baja fish tacos, yucca fries, and gauc and chips. All were excellent. The best were the agua fresca. Tried the mango passion fruit and the strawberry lime. The fresh, not-watered-down, not-too-sweet drink was so refreshingly good.
(5)Jenefer R.
Very small spot definitely casual field to it. We came on a non busy day so we were able to order quick and find a spot to sit. It's definitely a place you want to come to when it's not busy as its self seating. The best part was definitely the food, which was amazing enough to make me want to come back. Prices are a bit on pricey side for a small dishes but it's well worth it. I ordered two fish tacos, side of rice and beans, and a side of plantains with their mango juice total of $30-35. I'll definitely pay a visit again when I'm craving those plantains.

Fish Tacos is Off the Hook.... Always stop by on the way to San Francisco. Crew is always awesome, service fast and food is to drive 100 miles for. Side of Crema is a must... Sauce is just perfect ... Their Frescas are always fresh btw so good alternative to Soda....

This restaurant has a lot of great aspects worth to be mentioned about this restaurant. The Venue: The pace is not very big but it has an outdoor sitting area, almost like a deck, very cosy. At night they turn on heater lamps and makes the scene more intimate. They also play lovely Salsa music, not too loud. This sets a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The Service: You sit yourself and order as you go in. They give you a device that would vibrate when your food is ready and a server delivers it to your table. The servers were polite and friendly. Beware of the long lines thought! The Food: The drinks are tasty and are served in a cute, large, jar like glass. They also serve alcoholic drinks such as beer. The food was amazing! Both my friend and I enjoyed our food. I recommend the fish taco and carne azada taco. They are served with double tortilla and fresh cabbage on top, on the side a piece of lemon. And a special sauce on the table that you can add,it's very tasty! Other Comments: I had not found any good Latin food restaurants near Berkeley, but this is certainly my favorite now. I will definitely go back!

The fish tacos here are it! I also enjoy the chips and guacamole and Sangria. There's always a long line during dinner but it's definitely worth the wait. The restaurant is self seating, if there's any space try the back patio. The prices are very reasonable for the portions.

Pros: Awesome back patio with ample space heaters Several vegetarian options Tofu tacos are spicy, flavorful and crispy The agua fresca (try the mango passion fruit) Small selection of wine and beer including sangria The service - everyone is smiley and friendly The sandwiches! The papito with tofu is hands down one of the best I've ever had. Cons: More chips with the guacamole, please?

Baja fish tacos are the bomb! Also love the carnitas and just about everything else. Make sure to try the new yucca fries which are always perfect additions, great service, fast service!

Amazing tacos! I tried the tilapia and carnitas, BOTH being among the best I've had. The line at Jack London Farmer's Market immediately drew me in and I knew I was in for a treat. Both tacos were piled high with generous portions of meat and were oh so tasty! I really enjoyed the mango juice as well. The owner's mom was working the register and is the sweetest, most down to earth woman you'll ever meet. I love supporting family run businesses that really care. Can't wait for them to open their cafe!

By pure coincidence alone did I end up stumbling upon Cholita Linda with my boyfriend last night. We were hungry and looking for a place for dinner, we drove past this block and saw a few restaurants in a row, and decided to park (we couldn't believe we instantly found an empty spot) and walk to check them all out. We passed by a handful of places, looked into Cholita Linda, and knew we wanted to try it. It was pretty busy last night but the staff at the counter - where you order and then seat yourself - were pretty good about getting people's orders in quickly. The food also came really fast, and everything was presented really nicely along with there being a lot of food. We got the chicharron de pollo plate, two carne asada tacos, and the chips and salsa and guacamole. The salsa was pretty standard pico de gallo, very fresh, and the guacamole was thick and creamy, not at all watery like another reviewer claimed. The food came, and I was put off by how much cabbage were on top of the tacos, because who wants a salad on top of their tacos, but after one bite I was sold; these tacos were incredible, and I loved the baja cream with the salsa roja and cool cabbage slaw. After we instantly devoured them I wanted a lot more. The chicharron de pollo plate was excellent; the chunks of chicken were perfectly crisped on the outside and juicy and moist inside, and the salsa criolla was super delicious and added a much-appreciated burst of flavors and color to the plate. The rice and pinto beans were good too, and the salad that accompanied the plate was a refreshing break from the heavier food, with some sort of citrusy, light vinaigrette, though it was a bit on the salty side. I really want to come back here for more tacos, and to experience the delicious food again. I wasn't expecting such an overall fantastic experience and I left with good food in my tummy. It's pricey here though ($3.00 a taco? $3.00 for guacamole alone?!), and if you want another order of tacos or another drink, it looks like you may need to get back in line and pay at the counter, which could end up taking a long time on a busy night. Definitely recommend making a trip here!

This place was amazing!!! It's so beautiful inside! This place is located on telegraph avenue, but it feels like your stepping in another world! The big open windows, the music, including the decor! My coworker and I ordered the fish tacos so good! We also ordered fried plantains so good! You have to come and try this place!! It's a must!
(5)Amelia D.
ONLY COMPLAINT: they seem to be pretty stingy with giving out chips. Small bowls and I'm not sure if there's free refills... Atypical for a Latin place. Regardless, this place is bomb. I've been several times with friends and everyone loves it. The food is all a bit spicy/warm. Most recently I got the lechon sandwich, delicious but a lot of food! I would prefer to split next time. MANGO PASSION FRUIT AGUA FRESCA IS SO FRICKEN GOOD. GET IT. Love this place!

On Saturday, 1/3/15, my girlfriend and I decided to hit up Cholita Linda to explore more food items on their menu. We had a really great experience our first time here. Here's how it all went down. Atmosphere/Decor: Refer to my previous review. Food: I had to order their Carne Asada Taco (steak, salsa roja, cabbage slaw, baja crema) since it was so delicious the first time. The Carne Asada Taco was even better this time around! How can that possibly be?!? This is by far the best Carne Asada taco I've ever eaten! The steak they use tastes amazing and is very flavorful. The taco has some intense flavors going on. I love it! I also tried their Pollo al Pastor Taco (spit-roasted free range chicken, salsa roja, cabbage slaw, baja crema.) The chicken was tender and flavorful. I wish the chicken I eat during the week for my diet tasted like this. Good solid taco overall. I also ordered a Cubano Sandwich (pulled pork shoulder, black forest ham, mustard, pickles, aioli and Swiss cheese on grilled French bread.) Holly smokes! This was an excellent Cubano! It was hands down the best Cubano Sandwich I've ever eaten! The pulled pork shoulder tasted really good and fresh. The black forest ham tasted delicious and all of the condiments complimented the sandwich very well. The French bread had that perfect crispy crunchy texture to it. I'm not sure what they put on the French bread but it tasted amazing! It tasted like some type of garlic spread. The French bread tasted like really good baked garlic bread. This sandwich was the business! My girlfriend ordered the Asado (Peruvian style roast beef, caramelized onions, organic arugula, aioli and jack cheese on grilled French bread.) My girlfriend liked her sandwich a lot. She said it tasted good. We also ordered a side of Rice & Beans along with a side of Plantains. The Rice & Beans were delicious and tasty. The Plantains are the best I've ever eaten. The Plantains had the perfect amount of sweetness and the texture was spot on. They were soft inside and had the perfect crisp bite on the outside. Service: JCO, who took my order at the register, was very nice and personable. He had a great attitude. Everyone at Cholita Linda seems very nice. Overall: Cholita Linda is one of my new favorite Latin infused restaurants. The food is excellent and the flavors are intense! I'd highly recommend trying their tacos, especially the Carne Asada Taco along with their Rice & Beans and Plantains. And how could I ever forget their Cubano. The Cubano is a definite must try. Next time I come back I'm going to try a different sandwich on their menu. I'm sure it's going to be delicious just like their amazing Cubano! If you haven't eaten at Cholita Linda hurry up and go give it a try. It's a great place!

When in California you have to get some tacos. As i walked up i thought, "ugh, a line. Wait, that's usually a good sign!" That, and the line moved quickly. I ordered myself up an array of tacos and cusquena beer (from Peru). I've never even seen it in the US before. My wife also got some tacos and juice (i tried it, and it was awesome). The tacos came out fast, as tacos should. The taste? They were excellent. Fresh and delicious. Would I eat here again? In a second, a no brainer.
(5)Ivan D.
The piccadillo entree was just as good as I make at home. If anything, I wish they would throw in a couple more plantains rather than the two they give. Mango agua fresca was very refreshing. Excellent food. Will definitely be back for more.

This is my third time experiencing a Cholita Linda taco and I can't wait for the next Sunday brunch munching or just engulfing one or two of their hot perfectly portioned juicy fish tacos. I don't normally go for fish tacos but I am now sold on them since first trying a Cholita fish taco at the farmers market at Jack London square in Oakland, last summer on a lazy Sunday afternoon. So today for brunch my wife and I shared three fish tacos along with the very wonderful plantains, and just to be complete a small serving of guacamole and chips which were fresh and delicious! The fish was crunchy outside and moist and delicious inside, just perfect! We quickly ordered at the counter since there was no line just us and one other table occupied. The decor is green and lively and festive and nice Salsa music in the background to complete the mood. The brunch and my wife's blackberry-lime agua fresca arrived within a few minutes so we very happily munching away on our chips and fish tacos in a very festive and relaxing atmosphere. This is a great little simple Mexican food lunch spot, just the perfect thing for a weekend break from cooking. The tacos were only $3.50 very reasonable, so it was a nice inexpensive taco eating experience in Temecsal. They also have quite a few tables outside in the back courtyard area, which would be nice to sit maybe in the evening when it is lit up. We will be back!

YUM. Basic high quality tacos. Chips and salsa rock. The decor is so fresh and vibrant while their patio is no doubt my favorite place to chill for a late dinner. Tofu tacos! So good. Interesting that they serve plain white rice as opposed to most seasoned rices but it goes nicely with the beans. Side note - a side order of beans is actually a BIG bowl, definitely worth the money. Lines can hellishly long though, especially weekends, but it is good food. I wouldn't say necessarily better than any other taco joint around the area but certainly just as good.
(4)Carina M.
Delicious! Get the Papito sandwich - so so good. Also, their agua frescas are delicious too! Mango & Passion Fruit is my favorite. You walk in, order up front and then sit and the wait is never long. The food is always fresh and delicious! :) Great service and music - you can't NOT shake your butt here cause the salsa music is playing and well you gotta shake you body to the conga.
(5)Jerry E.
The food and the ambience was exactly what I needed after a long work week also the food comes out super quick.
(5)X L.
Addictive tofu tacos. I'm not a vegetarian. I never ordered their meat and seafood tacos coz I'm hooked on the tofu cubes that are fried so perfectly - crispy (not over fried) outside and soft inside is why I always choose them over other food stands. So glad they're opening a restaurant in Temescal.
(4)Seb M.
All about the fish tacos here- fried perfectly with just the right amount of crunch. The chips are really good and if you must the carnitas will not do you wrong but really is el fish the one i want and so should you. :-) The aguas frescas are a bit light for me but then again if they weren't why do they call them aguas right?

The potted banana trees, the green shutters above the kitchen, the blue stools, the green door, the natural wood tables and chairs, the colorful and cheery table covers on the outdoor tables, and the skylights make this restaurant such a wonderful place to eat the delicious tacos Cholita Linda serves. This was our first time at their restaurant on Telegraph and was pleasantly surprised by the decor and atmosphere of the place. So festive! It also helps to have lively salsa music playing in the background. The food was great as usual. The fish taco was delicious. The fish was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. All the veggies and sauces that came on top of it truly made every bite something to savor. My husband had the carnitas tacos which he enjoyed as well. If I weren't enjoying my fish tacos so much, I would have taken a bite of his taco. We also shared their regular salad (without any additional protein) and a side of the plantains. The plantains were tender and slightly sweet, just the way I like them. The salad turned out to be another favorite of mine. It was hearty, tasty and delicious. It was composed of mixed greens, black beans, crispy tortilla strips, cheese, cream, and a light vinaigrette. I may just order that next time with a couple of pieces of fish. I decided to forgo their refreshing agua fresca and ordered instead their sangria. Served in a pint-sized mason jar, it was a very generous pour. It went perfectly with my food. We'll have to return soon so we can try their blackberry lime agua fresca before blackberries go out of season!

Love at first bite! I first tried their fish tacos at the Jack London Square Farmers Market, and then I discovered the actual restaurant. While the food is always on point, the restaurant is AMAZING! The fish tacos, fresh juice drinks (mango) and chicarones de pollo are all stars in my book.
(5)Dina L.
Get the fish tacos which are fresh, flaky & not over breaded. Patio is perfect for lunch on a balmy day. Loved their plantains which aren't as sweet but nice and crunchy exterior
(4)Danielle S.
We went because of the reviews posted on Yelp. We arrived at about 5:15 on a Monday and my husband ordered chicken tacos. They were out of chicken which has never to me at a restaurant and I am 58 years old! Very strange indeed. He opted for carne asada which were overly sauced. My daughter and I had a snapper filet along with rice and beans. The rice was bland white rice and the beans had some nice bits of bacon which kicked them up a notch. The meals came with a nice leafy green salad and a tasty dressing. The fish filets were ordinary breaded and fried without seasoning. Nothing really stood out except for the black beans.
(3)Brad H.
Definitely lives up to the star power rating on Yelp that brought us in the door! Clean, fast service and most importantly good food! Had the carnitas taco and love the cabbage touch they put in it. Accompanied it with a cold Pacifico which paired nicely.

I've eaten here so many times but always forget to write a review. Last time I went, I tried the vegan coconut pudding with mango passion fruit sauce for dessert...it was a complete mouthgasm omg!!!!! Insanely good it almost felt wrong..I'm sure the cinnamon topping is also good but damn the mango sauce on a nice and firm coconut pudding literally made my tastebuds explode in eternal greatness... The tofu tacos and fish tacos are also yummy, and the plantains and yucca fries are both good but the oil sometimes makes my heart feel like it's going to burst (not in the good way)..agua frescas can't go wrong here either although they're more on the sugary side. The food always comes out quick although service can occasionally be a little disorganized. The plates are worth getting if you want. A little bit of everything and it will definitely fill you up. If anything, get the coconut pudding!
(4)Sleepy B.
I come here exclusively for the fish tacos. I haven't really tried anything else besides the fish tacos and I admit I am often tempted to take advantage of the other amazing stuff you can only get here around this temescal block: an amazing chicken sandwich from bakesale Betty, irresistible tea leaf salad with coconut rice from Burma superstar. But more often than not I end up with a few fish tacos from cholita linda. Ricky's Fish Tacos ( m.yelp.com/biz/rickys-fi… ) in L.A. are pretty close but somehow I think I like cholita's simplicity and balance of veggies and toppings better. The jars of juice are pretty darn good too.

Awesome tacos, lovely patio, great prices and really sweet service. What more can you ask for?

Awesome place! Came here on a Friday afternoon and had a lot of area for seating. After reading about the fish tacos, I decided to give it a try. My wife ordered the asado. Best fish tacos I've had. I could tell the fish they used as well as the rest of the ingredients were very fresh. We also ordered salsa and chips which very good and fresh. The salsa was spicy and had a good texture. I ordered two fish tacos, but I may have been content with just one. I was very full after two since they are fairly big tacos. The fish was fried perfectly and the sauce and the slaw definitely added the right touch. My wife's asado was also very good. We never had an asado before, but would definitely order it again. Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of Mexican food. I am of south asian descent and I prefer Mexican over Indian! This was a nice change-up from my favorite hole in the wall Mexican joints. Definitely looking forward to coming back here again.
(5)Harry W.
best fish tacos ever! Including those in San Diego/LA. I can't wait to go back here. The breading is light, the fillet was perfectly cooked, tender and flaky. WOW.
(5)Nishan C.
Amazing we eat here once a week. Best fish tacos ever! A little stingy with the chips and guacamole. Music is way to loud . But love the food enough anyway. Excellent, good prices and very fresh
(5)Michael H.
I frequent the Jack London Square Farmer's Market and have always seen Cholita LInda. The high prices seem a little too high for tacos yet the line is typically long. Seeing that the line didn't trail as long as usual, I decided to give it a try. There were three different kinds of filling for taco: tofu, fish, and pork. I decided to go with the carnitas (soft corn tortillas, slow braised pork, chipotle-tomatillo salsa, cabbage salad, baja crema). For three tacos, they aren't cheap. $10.50! My expectations were high for these pricey, long wait tacos. Overall the tacos I had were good but was it worth the price? I found it a bit weird that while there were a bunch of amazing ingredients it was a bit hard to distinguish each ingredient. It was good but I just tasted the carnitas. I don't have a problem if from time to time there's human hair in my food, I found two hairs. And I know it wasn't my hair because the hair was cooked within the fibers of the meat. It didn't stop me from finishing my tacos. On a positive note the tacos are pretty hefty and they don't skimp on the meat. ___ Good tacos but I've had better for cheaper. I think I may just prefer beef cheek and tongue in my tacos.

Believe the hype--these fish tacos are amazing. Food: It's all about the fish tacos. Perfectly breaded and fried. The sauce is to die for, and all of the elements in the taco are perfectly balanced. If you want to go astray and get carnitas or tofu, don't be afraid. I can vouch for the high quality meat they use, and my friend says the tofu tacos can satisfy vegetarian needs. I'm addicted to their lime agua fresca--make sure to grab one. Typical meal can be a bit pricey, but you pay for the quality. Atmosphere: Perfectly set in Oldtown Oakland's Farmer's Market. Always a live local musical artist playing, and you can sit at the nearby tables to enjoy your meal under the Oakland sunshine or wander around the other food tents. The area is crowded enough to be exciting but not claustrophobic. Service: As Socrates once said (I think), "great fish tacos make long lines." Yeah, ok...you'll have to wait a bit. But for making such fresh food, the workers move the line pretty regularly--just enough, in fact, to not make you annoyed. The servers are also really friendly and efficient. They don't mind giving you extras or making special orders. Once your order is placed, it comes up quickly. I have passed their food up once or twice just because I don't want to deal with the hassle of waiting, but that fish taco craving will always make me come back for more. Take it from Me: Don't be afraid to ask for extra sauce on your tacos!

One of the best restaurants I have eaten in in the past year...I'd call it Mexican-Spanish fusion cuisine...open and friendly environment, very cool artisan fruit drinks and a killer menu. JA

Loved the tacos and agua fresca! Delicious pescado and carnitas and the ambiance is refreshing and colorful.
(5)Oak Knoll D.
Best fish tacos ever...period!!!

I was clever enough to make walk down to the Oakland Farmer's Market this afternoon. My train of thought was rain = less people = the faster I can get fish tacos in my belly. This place has dethroned Nick's crispy tacos as my favorite fish tacos in the bay area. They are worth the walk in the rain from my office. What's so good about them you may ask? The fish is perfectly fried, not soggy and not too hard. They put the right amount of shredded cabbage, the white corn tortillas don't taste toooo much like corn (if ya know what I mean) and offer the perfect platform that allows my favorite element to shine: the SAUCE! Such smokey, flavorful chipotle sauce! My mouth is watering again. It goes without saying, everything taste fresh, like baja california Rosarito style fresh! Until next Friday, fish tacos!
(5)Maria H.
Cholita Linda has a presence at so many farmers markets! I finally tried them out at Old Oakland's market on Fridays. I was going for that chicken place but they weren't there so I decided to grab some tacos. I was so happy I did! Their menu is small, only two types of tacos available. So I chose the carnitas tacos. The lady who took my order was really nice and warm and I loved the way she said Maria with a smile. Maybe her name was Maria too? The carnitas are really well seasoned without being overly salty. They come on hot corn tortillas with some crunchy cabbage, a spicy red sauce and creamy white sauce. Not to mention, these two tacos were huge! I was very pleased with the quality and quantity of my meal.
(4)Jen C.
Super yummy fish tacos! I think the best in the bay area! The fish is super juicy and flaky and there is always the right ratio of cabbage to fish to sauce. The batter is crispy and flavorful and the tortillas are fresh and warm. I go every week to the Claremont Farmer's Market to grab some tacos and they never disappoint. The owner, Vanessa is always at the Claremont stand and she is super sweet! I can't wait till the summer opening in Temescal!
(5)Nicole A.
The strong reviews led me to Cholita Linda at the Friday Downtown Oakland Farmers Market. I had the carnitas and the pescado tacos, both came with radish and slaw and a lime wedge($7.50). I also had a melon fresca (3.50). I thought both tacos were ok. I liked the carnitas a little more. The pescado was a little salty, but the portion was big. I don't think I would order this one again, though. The melon fresca was really good. I'm curious to try the mango and lime frescas. I would return again, but I sure wouldn't wait in such a long line again, especially with so many other options around.
(3)RA B.
I love this place!!! The food is great and affordable, the service is friendly and the place is open and welcoming! I really want this place to do well - go out and support it!
(5)Kevin D.
The fish tacos are not of this earth.
(5)Anthony K.
I plan my Sunday's around cholita Linda's schedule. Five stars all the way. Nothing tastes better than a couple of fish tacos and aqua fresca sitting by the dock of the bay. They are winning and when the restaurant opens I'm sure they will have a following similar to that of bake sale Betty.
(5)Jana C.
Son las aguas frescas que me apresan cada vez... increible, sabrosas, y refrescantes!!!! Translation: Aguas frescas. GET THEM! dumdum to the one who passes them up!
(4)Sophie Y.
I tried the fish tacos here at Eat Real Fest 2012... so yummy! The fish was fried really well, crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. The sauces in the taco were good too, but the veggies on the top didn't really taste like much. There was also cilantro on top that I picked off, but all in all, a delicious fish taco :)
(4)Erica S.
Had their tacos at the Eat Real Festival. They weren't a food truck, but HANDS DOWN, they had the best food that we tried that day! Beat out all the food trucks that I tried!! Had their braised pork taco and their fish tacos. Both had great flavorful toppings with it, which made it taste extra special. The fish wasn't heavily battered which I liked. I should of had more! It was $3 each and definitely worth it. Too bad they're only at Farmer's Market around Oakland. If they had a restaurant, I'd be there!
(5)G T.
I was hesitant to try the tilapia fish tacos because I'm not a big fan of the fish. However, the tilapia fish taco here is delicious, no unpleasant are taste.
(4)Derrick C.
One of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and authentic - perfectly fried tilapia, homemade corn tortillas, and baja crema.
(4)Tamara H.
Nearly every woman resident at our building speaks about the fish tacos that Cholita Linda has at the JLS Farmer's Mkt q Sunday; so went I... I'm hooked.I've also taken to doing drive-by on Friday's FM on Friday for CL fish tacos which they cook made-to-order. Can hardly wait for the new restaurant on 51st @ Telegraph. Bakesale Betty will be forced to organize or surrender!
(5)San F.
The highlight of going to the Farmer's Market on Sundays. Just try it! You won't regret it. The tortillas are perfect, the fish is nice and crispy with the sauce.... Tastes so fresh and delightful and I know my pet peeve with soft tacos are how they get mushy/soggy etc... Well not the case with these things. If I could I would have it every Sunday =).
