I have never eaten here but it is my go to place for a fun night out. Bands are usually pretty good but when they are not the jukebox is great. The bartenders are super chill....and they do a wonderful job of handling the extremely wasted. I love going and just shooting the shit with everyone. If you are uptight then find somewhere else to go.

Meet there with friends when I am in Orange County. Even though I come at lunch time I always order the irish breakfast and beer. Don't cross the Irish waitress. She won't put up with any English b.s.

Love it here. Now you can dance which is great. Good music and nice bouncer. Attentive service. Thanks for not kicking our friend out last night.

AGAIN a great experience again. One of my favorite bartenders Scott working, he's super friendly, always complimentary, sexy as hell, and makes a damn good drink. Always a good night when he's working. Guys get down and grab a Guinness, girls get down and get a glimpse of eye candy!

Shamrock is a neat little dive bar located on pch. It's a nice refresher to get away from the same old bars on the peninsula (i.e. Malarkys, Newport brew co, woodys, and blue beet). My only criticism is that the music tends to be overpowering for such a small place. Also, you have to come here with a substantial group. It's not really the type of place where you can meet a lot of other outgoing peeps.

If you are a minority-- don't go here. The owner and manager will look at you like you caused the 1840s Potato Famine. But being called something that began with an "N" and ended with an "er" was the deal breaker. I hope a drunk drives his car through the place...

This place is so disgusting. Everything is sticky. It honestly looks like a good candidate for the next episode of Bar Rescue. I came here for lunch with my husband. We ordered nachos and the waitress actually came out and warned us that they use cheez whiz on their nachos. Terrible. I would go to Muldoon's any day over this place. Gross.

I love the full Irish breakfast. Delicious and filling. They even picked up a couple of real Irish people from the Irish farm outside of town and dressed them up like bartenders. How cute!!

This place gets one star because of the staff. The staff here are extremely unprofessional and rude. I came here the night before thanksgiving and the place was packed. We waited in line for an hour and upon getting to the front of the line, learned that they were only letting people in at that point who were willing to pay the bouncers off. Meanwhile another employee was standing next to the bouncer referring to the patrons as "trust fund babies."

The bald guy behind the bar is a bad person, he insulted my wife in a racially inappropriate way, and the prices for a drink, are absolutely ridiculous. Walk down the street and get treated with respect. Its the most expensive dive bar ever.

    (1)
  • Jeffrey A.

I highly recommend the food, they have a great burger and fries combo for lunch. It's definitely a good option for the price. It's our go to bar, has a good environment during peak house but not too crazy when you want to just grab a beer. Great friendly bartenders and a nice location right on PCH

My husband and I appreciate this little dive bar (diamond in rough). We work in area on occasion and want to hang out and have fun without spending a fortune on drink like most places in this area. Good option and fun place.

Great Irish Pub along the beach highway. Locals come in for lunch daily. You can watch soccer games; and all sports are always showing on the TV's The Bacon, Mushroom, Cheese Burger is Great and the Reuben Sandwich is better. Live music at night and weekends.

  • Sean R.

this was my 1st pub coming to California and the owners were super friendly & luvly people! great place to catch a soccer game or just chill with some friends and have a proper pint! apparently weekend nights it is busy with the young ones, so you won't see my ass there - I like it when it's quiet and I can enjoy my fish and chips! (the food is delicious!) a lot of folks won't get this place, but for me...quite happy for those folks to stay the fook away! lol God Bless the Orange & Green! Top'of'da-Morning to ya! No non sense staff who don't kiss your ass...just real people!

This bar has it all: Food, Booze, Live Music, Great Bartenders and a (mostly) indoor Smoking Lounge! Pro: Tony. Hands down and hats off; he's an excellent bartender...tip him well! Pro: I gladly give extra stars to any bar that kindly and comfortably accommodates smokers...especially in CA. The back "patio-esque" area is partially screened and partially windowed--in. If it were raining, they'd have you covered. Enjoy your a drink and smoke at the SAME TIME. Hooray! Neutral: I didn't stay late enough to hear any bands, but I did enjoy a corned beef and cabbage dinner. Not being an expert on Irish cuisine, I don't have too much feedback on it--except that the mustard was amazing. Neutral: Drinks start at $8 a pop. That could be considered outrageous or cheap, depending on where you're coming from.

Worst place ever! Upon arrival I was yelled at for by the owner for not parking in a slot of his choice though the lot was 1/2 empty. It just went down hill from there. Nuff said..

  • Beks ..

I am giving this review based on Jo, our female bartender. She not only went out of her way to remove a disturbing guy that was clearly too forward and drunk, but told us where to go while we were in town next:) I had the fish n chips (really impressive for bar grub). The bloody Mary was delicious. Good dive bar, thanks Jo!

Not my favorite Irish Bar in Orange County, but this place is location, location, location. Can't beat that. Staff is often super grumpy, and it is rare if anyone that works here smiles, ever. Watch out if you park here and go somewhere else, as they will tow. High prices, but it's a fun place if you bring the right people with you.

They don't allow dancing- I don't come here to dance I've never met anyone here- I don't come here to socialize People are amazed because it's owned by Irish people. What the hell do you expect? It's an Irish pub you idiots!!! Most people complain because they don't know what a real Irish/English pub is actually like. What do people expect, for there to be dancing Leprechauns at the door, greeting the guests upon arrival? The main and only reason I come here, is because they have great Fish n Chips, and they have cold Magners on tap. That's it. I come here to enjoy my favorite food, with my favorite cider after a long day at work. I'm not Irish, but I am English, and any place that serves good Fish n Chips along with Magners Irish Cider is more than alright in my book. Keep that kitchen open a little later in the evening, and I'll give you that 5th star!!

What? An Irish Bar with an Irish Waitress? I'm kinda torn about Shamrock and my experience. On the positive side, the waitress was on her game and the liquor flowed like the salmon of Capistrano. On the negative side, the quality if food was comparable to that of a stone college kid and his microwave. The nachos were made with what tasted like canned nacho cheese. Seriously, grab a bite down the street and hangout here after. The juke box is great, the TVs are solid, and there's plenty of room! Plus, having an Irish waitress was pretty bitchen!

If you remember anything, remember "NO DANCING ALLOWED." Not sure what sprouted this rule, but eh.. This is a dive bar with LOTS of seating and enough beers on tap. Definitely not as busy during the day, which is when I was there for after an engagement party with some college buddies. Pros: -Lots of seating -Alcohol is priced well for a bar on PCH Cons: -"NO DANCING ALLOWED" -Boring -Parking is a disaster.... Tips: -Try the lot behind the bar, otherwise be prepared to stalk cars on PCH

During the day this is a hang out for locals - people who have made "The Shammy" home base. I love this! It's like Cheers but with Irish Bar Tenders and corned beef nachos. Jo is a doll and Tony is too - great service. They make their own Irish mustard which is delicious and you won't find a better Rueben anywhere. I've only been here a few times at night. Very different crowd. Skews younger and a little more rowdy as expected. There is a happy hour but it doesn't come with any great drink deals...free food typically burritos and chips and salsa This is a great place to go and watch soccer too. I love The Shammy

  • Cat H.

Hopped over here after some cocktails at Billy's. We wandered in and found the place was bumping. The live band was pretty good and the bartenders were very friendly. The crowd was pretty fun and it was a good time. I'd go back.

  • George C.

Yeah the don't allow dancing, get over it. Call the city and complain, they're the ones bustin' the bars in Newport's balls. Bartenders are great, they move fast and serve you. The food is may be worth 3 stars tops, but I don't go there to eat...

    (5)
  • Shawnna R.

I love the shamrock they have a great bacon avocado burger and there omelette's are also good as well. Jo Jo is amazing, she is super helpful and nice! Definitely suggest coming here.

Great hole in the wall for some authentic Irish brew. I give their "Irish Nachos" FIVE stars, and this is a must get. Will be returning and bringing back some mates next time.

I stopped going here over a year ago due to the crazy uptight owner and bouncers. I didn't want to hold a grudge and I only live two blocks away, so I tried going back on Saturday night for a few pops. Ugg. Same ol' bad attitudes and terrible food. This is the worst bar in Newport and Costa Mesa combined, times two. I wish that Skosh and this guy would sell their lame bars to the super killer guy that makes the lucky charms. I'm Irish, and won't step foot in either bar.

    (1)
  • Eric G.

I love that people give this place bad reviews because you can't dance... It's not there fault it is the city of Newport beach. They require a permit in or to dance and they won't give them out. If you are looking for a good Irish pub this is it. They pour a great Guinness and if there is a big match on they will always have it showing. Been coming here for years and will continue to.

    (4)
  • Maggie G.

I know this review is going to annoy Dan H because he hates this place, but it's like a drug that I can't give up. It's hard to honestly say anything nice about the Shamrock, but I still love it. The drinks are expensive, the place is in disrepair, and while the staff used to be surly, they've mellowed a bit over the years. If you are drunk and out of control, the bouncers will throw you out--literally: they will pick you up and toss you to the cement sidewalk outside. It just adds to the charm of the place. There's live music, which is decent most of the time, and no cover charge. Ask Tony to make you a Long Island Iced Tea or a Scooby Snack--he makes those better than anyone, anywhere. Sports are always on the telly, and they have the best Irish Breakfast this side of Dublin. Actually, all of the food is pretty decent--the cajun salmon special is excellent. As long as you don't expect a fancy Newport Beach experience, you'll probalby find you're having a good time at the Shamrock.

Like a oven door opening and blasting in your face when I walked in but it has been unusually hot at night. There are three rooms so make sure you keep making your way back to see the whole place. So many people with sparkling white teeth here I felt like I was in a Crest Whitestrips commercial. Dive bar for the beautiful.

I went to Shamrocks after reading their menu online to get myself a Cheeseburger, the menu's that I read online all stated a cheeseburger was 5.95 This place has obviously no concept of customer service. Here are all 3 menus that I read: gayot.com/restaurants/me… viewmenu.com/shamrock-ba… urbanspoon.com/cities/20… When I went in to order I asked how much the total for a Cheeseburger was after tax because I only came in with 8 dollars, and to my surprise it was coming out to around 8.50 give or take some change. So I mentioned to her that I thought it was cheaper and I read online it was like 6 bucks, she then responded with a smug "McDonalds is right down the street" I couldn't believe my ears when I looked at her dead in the eyes, laughed a little and said "Im not gonna eat there" I was in shock that this uppity old lady was trying to tell me to go eat at Mcdonalds after I call her out on her prices being different online. This just goes to show that Newport Beach is filled with smug, douchebags who look down the bridge of there nose at you. It was around 4:30 when I went in and everyone in there was dressed like they were gettin wasted right off their lunch break with their botox and plastic surgery. it was disturbing. I even saw her try to throw a piece of trash away and it landed right next to someones plate as they were eating and she failed to have a sincere apology and I could tell the guy was bothered. I ended up buying a hamburger anyway since it was all I could afford and this was probably the first burger Id ever had that didn't have cheese on it, besides that the fries were just typical frozen steak fries you'll find at 90% of bars and the burger was just some frozen 1/4 burger patty. It was awful low quality food that I couldn't believe they were pushing for more than half of burger joints in town. This place is a ripoff filled with grade A Newport Beach Scum.

I've seen varying sides of the "No Dance" policy discussed in these reviews....and here's my beef - there is a right way to enforce things and a wrong way to enforce things. The floor staff at Shamrock is sincerely lacking any training in customer service and, dare I say, decency. They seem generally unhappy in their positions, and I get it, you work at a dive bar, you have no marketable skills besides a raging case of cauliflower ear....but believe me, it's the patrons of Shamrock that suffer. Bartenders are fine, job well done - that's why the place gets one star. You want a drink, stop on in, but DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT! put your hands in the air, it's not dancing, but you try explaining that to cauliflower ear.

It's really more of a higher-4-star place, but I'm rounding up to balance out the people whining about the dancing. There are dozens of places within walking distance where the bro-types can go dance and good riddance. The Shamrock is a haven with good food and good beer. I've had the corned beef hash before and it's on the higher end of pub fare. As far as gluten-free options go, I haven't asked about food (I doubt they'll know what I'm talking about judging from when I asked about the cider), but they do have a decent gf cider on tap. So cheers :) My only real negative with The Shamrock is the juke-box. There's got to be a way to disable lady gaga and the like. It very much ruins the atmosphere when the music gets hijacked for hours on end.

Thank god for this bar. I moved here from Massachusetts and am used to Irish pubs, food and drinks. This is the ONLY place I have found that will make a Snakebite out here the right way. Every time i order one at other places I always get a Black Velvet, which is a good drink but not what I ordered. Love that they play all sorts or random sports on their televisions and they food is perfect for a night out drinking.

If you like to drink and socialize, you'll do just fine at Shamrock Bar & Grill. Pros - Plenty of drink options, free Parking in back, TVs Cons - Bathrooms, occasional dancing types

Stopped for lunch with a few friends today. I had Newcastle on tap which was excellent. Service was friendly, unpretentious and quick and added bonus everyone working there spoke with a beautiful Irish accent. I had corned beef and cabbage and it was excellent with beautiful texture of the beef and perfectly boiled veggies. My friend had corned beef and hash with a English bacon on the side. His dish was perfect as well. Please do try the brown sauce sitting on the table with your English back bacon- it's a thing of beauty. My only gripe was that the table was a little dirty and a bit sticky. I am far from a clean freak but a clean table would give this place five stars for me.

    (4)
  • Amanda L.

I love everything about this place; food, staff, spirits & beer. And.. I love than I can order a Snakebite without having to send it back 4x before the bartender gets it right. This place is perfect and reminds me of home.

If you are "lucky" and the shady owners sit by the bar, you are f.... Make sure you don't speak loud and have no more then 2 beers. If you do the above you will be told that you cannot be served anymore. Cause it's "too much fooling around". Don't go there. It's an empty bar with sour owners...

  • Tammi T.

Nice little bar with a homely feel, the lady who served us was really nice. I maybe had sheperds pie twice in my life and the last time was so long ago that I actually didn't remember that sheperd's pie doesn't have a crust. So imagine my surprise. But crust aside the pie was just ok, it wasn't exceptional. Having said that I would come back because of the laid back atmosphere.

I'm all about authenticity! None of that "fine" Mexican dining, "panda" Chinese food... this place is legit! Even the waitress/bartender lady has a Irish accent. Calls us "lads" hahaha! Came here for lunch, thanks again to my trusty phone and app "iWant" found this place. We shared the Irish Nachos, it's great! Since they use what everyone calls "fake" cheese, it's not as greasy. I actually prefer the "fake" cheese. It comes with corned beef. I'm a fan of corned beef, so this is perfect! Quite the different. The patty melt was pretty good! My friends' burgers were juicy, they come with fresh and hot steak fries...very good! The patty melt isn't as good as Pop's Cafe of Santa Ana, but it sure is good enough. We had the beer too. It was $22 a person. It's a bit pricey, especially for lunch. I'm sure this place will be rockin' on a weekend night. Nice food...nice place...a bit expensive!

  • Isabel T.

The bartenders are ornery but I kind of like it. It adds to the authenticity. You're not going to find a little surfer behind the bar. I like this place because it's so chill and down to earth trapped in the middle of upscale Newport Beach. The magners cider is the best. Try it over ice!

I'm from Northern Ireland. So i think i know Irish pubs well. the Sham delivers the best pint of Guiness in the area. {that doesn't say much, sorry America, but this one is at least decent) This is a great pub. Still too many neon lights to be truely Irish. But the Duggans are quality people and this is a great place to eat or drink. get the Irish Bacon Burger and a pint of Magners!! cs.

This is one of my favorite bars in Newport. Good looking people. Drinks that you don't have to wait too long for. The owner is a good guy and the bartenders are pretty nice. It is a little too hot inside sometimes but at least it's not freezing. This place has a nice vibe to it.

Ever wanted to go to an Irish pub with actual Irish people working there? If so, hit up the Shamrock on PCH. It has all of the necessary things do be a sweet little Irish dive pub, and even boasts Irish bartenders imported from The Emerald Ise. The weird little back patio thing is cool too, and you can see the bay from it!

  • John M.

I arrived on a Tuesday night at 11:30pm and stayed until closing. The vibe here is very casual and friendly - just be sure you read the posted sign and don't engage in anything that could be construed as dancing. The bartender, a nice Irish gentleman, shared tips on where to go should we ever chance to visit the motherland. Since I was the designated driver he didn't charge me for the few cokes that I drank while hanging around. Can't speak for the food since I never had a chance to sample any of the offerings. Due to the hour and the location I was the only one there that was not currently working for, or had previously worked at the Joe's Crab Shack (located next door). All in all, a great place to go when you want to relax with friends and not break the bank.

Went here to watch a football (soccer) match and at first I felt a little intimidated - I usually don't go to bars and I don't drink that much - just wanted a place that had the Setanta channel. I was happily surprised when I saw that there were an abundance of TVs and lineups of upcoming football matches on the wall. The tables were arranged for some good sports watching and the servers/bartenders/other patrons were really nice. Someone's birthday was going on at the same time and the waitress brought us each a slice of some bomb chocolate cake. I didn't have much of their food, but what I did have was pretty good - regular bar type food. But I was happy because they had Blue Moon on tap. Pretty good because I hate places that don't have either that or some sort of Hefeweizen since those are the only types I like. I'll definitely be back here for some EPL replays, Champions League matches and good beer. A note: they only accept credit cards if it's more than $15 so bring some cash if you just feel like dropping in.

Live music? Always a good time duh! I don't always go to Shamrock's, but when I do I listen to live music! I have only been here once, but it was pretty great time. They had a live two-man band playing some of the most iconic laid back music from throughout the ages of rock. It was really great they played everything from 60s & 70s and other varieties like Old Crow Medicine Show. It was a great time! I was incredibly impressed by the two at how well they performed, sounded, and their song choice was impeccable. As for their drinks I had Jack'n Cokes, it was great as always but I can't tell you about their prices because my drinks were magically free by my wonderful friend. But I am sure they were normally priced. Later in the night the crowd started to flood in and all the cuti-petuties rolled in. The live band still played every other song which was cool, but the jukebox did half the work for a while. It seemed pretty cracking for a small bar and the atmosphere seemed pretty fun. Overall this place seems pretty fun!

I love this place! It is a BEER BAR! If you want some fruity drink to hide the alcohol, there is a Yard House up the street. I have been a regular here and they are great at what they are -- an Irish PUB where you can have a good beer and talk to your friends. It's not a meat market [go to the Shark Club if you must], it's not a place to order Liquid Cocaine or Zombie or whatever the fruity drink of the day is. Come here with your friends [or you can make a friends with some of the regulars there], order a nice Guiness [I like Hoegaarden], and catch up on good times. There is indeed a "No Dancing" rule at the bar. I think it is because their license from the city does not allow dancing. If they are caught allowing dancing, they face hefty fines. As for the bartenders, I am not sure what some of the reviewers are doing/ordering at the bar, but they have been nothing but nice to normal pub patrons. I guess they don't really like amateur drinkers who order Irish car bombs like they are some stud beer-chugging machines. Bottom line: it is an Irish PUB (as in Public House) in the European sense. From my experience, this isn't a place for one to go to show off the latest moves while sipping a Midori sour. It is a PUB!

  • Christopher W.

Nice batch of cute girls. Some trashy.. some not. Typical Newport frat guy crowd. Good pours by the bar staff. Really good live band. For gods sake man... open some windows and let some fresh air in. It's a sauna front to back. Everyone was sweating buckets! Even some cheap fans to circulate the air would at least make it bearable.

    (3)
  • Robert F.

3.5....rounding down for no dancing. But I actually think the rule is pretty classic, especially since they play music that induces it and grumpy staff to enforce it. It is always great to sneak a Duffy up to the back dock for a pint and piss break. They have some Irish bartenders, but that is the only thing authentically Irish in my opinion. It's more of a dive with a good looking yonger crowd a well poured Irish pint(Guinness, magners, etc). You do get a little bit of douchery(I have had to throat choke at least one of them here for getting my face), but otherwise good times.

  • Booker G.

I was in town on Friday and saw the owner get pissed at a bride for dancing, he walked over and told her to stop dancing--that there was no dancing in his bar and if she wanted to dance she had to leave. Sad! There was nobody in the bar. She walked over and apologized and left upset.

    (1)
  • Dan H.

I quit going here years ago, save for a quick stop on our St. Paddys Day crawl. As in some of the other reviews, the bartenders are extreamly unfriendly, the owners a jerk, even to some friends that are semi-regulars. I enjoy an authentic Irish breakfast on occasion where I can soak up a genuine Irish Pub expierence with a live soccer or rugby game, but this is the last place I would go. Harp Inn up the hill is "bar far" the better bet.

And you thought you couldn't find a bar for real people in Newport Beach? This is a great place to get a drink if your going out gear doesn't consist of board shorts and flip flops (the peninsula) or one of those tacky and ridiculously expensive neon-stripe button down shirts you get at the high end menswear stores around here (Landmark/Quiet Woman/Port). Yeah, the music is way too loud most nights and they take themselves way too seriously, but what can you do? The drinks are cheap and strong, the people are as good as you'll find, and when you get in you won't be forced to squeeze in a 2 sqft area between a pair of creepy teenagers molesting each other and the creepier old guy watching them. A go-to bar. Recommended.

Went here last Sat for the first time, beer is pricey but it's Newport, want cheaper beer go to Malarkey's. Had the Irish Nacho's, the corn beef is great!! Laid back joint, plenty of parking, will go back and have a reuben along side the Irish Nachos:)

Not my favorite place in the world, but every once in a while we'll end up at Shamrock by default of friends who live nearby. The place is cool during the day where you can sit down and have a conversation. The chicken-head crowd at night I can do without. Having natural rythm, of course I don't like the NO DANCE rule.

Our organization just had a pub crawl a few weekends ago and the staff at Shamrocks were so accommodating and really great to us. We had 40 people, they were quick to serve us and the manager was so friendly and great! I've been here a few times in the past but I will definitely be going back again soon!!

Service with a snarl and I love it!! This is an old school Irish pub, where they are sharp with the tongue and take the piss out of each other, if you are expecting someone to kiss your ass go somewhere else!!!! I love it here. It is not too busy so you don't have to worry about being elbow to elbow with people. They a patio that you can chill and smoke while drinking, (Because those two go hand in hand) They also have good food which is uncommon, I am a little Irish girl so I grew up on corned beef and cabbage. So when my husband told me they have it I was all over that shit. It is soo yummy. I used to come in when I was pregnant just to get it. And trust me I got some nasty looks for being Preggers in a bar, but it was and is worth it. It is also a great place to come and watch the game, my husband loves to come her and watch the game with his buddies =)

Ah, Shammies. :) You are near and dear to my heart! Pros: Never a line. Always good lookin' peeps in a fun, mixed crowd. Cheap drinks. Lots of parking in the back. Friendly bartenders who are actually Irish. (Tony--you're a doll!) Great place to bring friends--lots of space. Live band is fun. Excellent way to spend a last call. Cons: I've literally seen the grumpy looking owner DRAG an adorable looking OC MILF outside because she started dancing. These people don't joke around! You can't miss Shammies. Many a night my friends and I somehow end up here and it's always fun. Don't like Newport? No worries, this place is the laid back beachy dive bar that will make you feel right at home!

Before I met the Rock, I thought the OC had no personality. This place is seriously one of the best watering holes I've ever been to. The bartenders are no-nonsense lads, great service, pour a variety of Irish beers and cocktails. No mojitos, don't ask. Their Irish Nachos are huge and come with fake cheese - so delicious! Clean bathrooms too if you care. Atmosphere best described as "run down beach shack." Live music some nights, laid-back crowd. Huge parking lot right off the street. Do yourself a favor, come by, check it out.

One of my favorite bars! I made my own kid's meal there. The Kid's meal with a Guinness. Order the chips with curry and have it with Guinness it's sooo yummy together~ I love when they have live music but what sucks is there's no dancing allowed. They're really serious about this too. A bouncer will come up to you and make you stop! So it works out great for those of you who are not great dancers! Great date place hahaha!

Didn't try any of the food here but the drinks were good and Jo was an amazing bartender. I liked the atmosphere and the service was great.

One of my favorite bars in Newport. Usually pretty mellow, there's always fun music (but no dancing - a friend of mine was actually bitten by the bouncer for dancing one time...), friendly people, great location. It's divey but you don't need a tetanus shot when you leave.

You want Irish, go here. Good happy hour, decent pub food and casual, no frills enviro. I stop by here on occassion, when I crave an ice cold beer and shot of Jameson.

I heart The Rock. I'm not a hardcore regular (alas, La Cave and The Little Knight are much closer to mi casa), but it's always good times whenever I go. The bartenders are sweethearts and one of them makes the best sapphire tonic. At first glance, Frank may look like another grizzled longtimer (kinda toofless) but he's actually the owner and he's nice in that gruff Irish way. Except for the one time he glared at me when he thought I was trying to beat up on my friend Erik (who's 6'5") but really I was just drunk and wanted someone to punch (who wouldn't punch me back). Stiff drinks? Check. Stella on tap? Check (v. important). Zero pretense? Check. Golden Tee? Aw yeah baby, check! Oh and cute boys galore.

My friends band (Noize Machine) plays here all the time and I've given this place so many chances. The owner is a freak... the Newport crowd is.....hm.... best word would be DOUCHE BAGS! Don't bother.

My friends and I came here to meet up with other friends. It was my first time here and it will be the last. ONE WORD. Rude, unfriendly bartender. Stick with beer if you come here. He can sure pull that handle and pour you a black and tan but he makes a horrible vodka soda. YEAH.. How does one do that? He can! Forget asking him anything either. I mean it was funny that someone could be so rude so I laughed about it. But honestly sir with the ginger hair... Find a personality other than being a douche. SO yeah this place sucks ass.

This is a great place to catch a beer or two and just enjoy yourself. Every once in a while I still meet up with friends here because they serve some good beers, the bartenders have heavy hands, and they have a big smoking patio area in the back (for some of my friends, not for me). The back is where the tiny parking lot is too (driveway on the right). What a friendly place. Sometimes if it isn't too busy or too crazy the owner will chat you up and tell you stories with his Irish accent. And I challenge you to find another bar where the patrons are so ready to start up a conversation with you out of the blue...especially as the night progresses and the music makes people sing. We were there once and this guy struck up a conversation with our little group and told us about being part of the Laura Scudder's family. You know the potato chips. We got the whole story on how she started making chips and progressed to modern nationwide distribution. He even had a copy of a documentary that he let us borrow. How cool (or weird) is that? Once upon a time this was a food joint for locals and the folks that worked in and around the marina. Glad that the space kept its casual tone and friendly atmosphere.

The Tipperary owners of the Shamrock Bar & Grill are real and the Irish/European staff are real. No cookie cutter 'plastic patties' here! Tony has been a long time bartender at the Shamrock who picks up your chat from the last time you were there! I like the history of this old bar on PCH on the Newport Beach harbor. I like knowing that owners Frank and Christine have been there for 19 years while rearing up their family and that they cared about your family as well. The Irish breakfast is great. The weekend crowd is fun though I'm more of a fan for the quiet Tuesday and having fun with the jukebox with a longtime friend. Happy memories at the Shamrock! You rock!

My favorite place to watch Football (soccer) matches early in the morning! This place is a true Irish Pub! Bartenders are awesome and the service is always great even if they are completely packed (like when USA played England in the World Cup). Absolutely love the food! From their Irish Breakfast that come with everything you could ever want/need, to their sandwiches which are filling and will keep you happy all day long. My friends always come down from LA to watch matches with me and this has become their favorite spot after only a single visit! Have never been here late night but heard it gets packed and is a great bar to enjoy yourself at!

Great place for a weeknight beer and chainsmoking. The smoking patio has plenty of seating. Soccer games from FSC playing regularly. Very nice staff, just be sure you take care of them, the food is bar food don't expect the fillet just settle for the fish n chips. Weekends you'll find a mixed crowd of bizzilionares and bro's. However as with anywhere if you are with the right group that won't bring you down or keep you from singing Neil Diamond. If you are a seasoned drinker however I would only recommend on weekdays, as you can hear yourself speak. The only negative thing I have to say about this joint is cops on PCH, get a cab don't be brave. Oh and the parking sucks as does the driveway to get into the parking lot. Seems to have a good regular crowd there, having been a dozen or so times in the past few months its growing on me.

I like this place! Went there on a Monday night at seven o'clock with my friend and there were probably 5 other people there.. most likely regulars. Sat at the bar and a football game was on so pitchers were only 10 bucks. Good music on the jukebox, the bartender was a chill guy.. pretty funny too, and the regulars were cool. Nice place to chill, have some beers and chat to some new people without the busy-ness of the weekend. Bartender said on fridays and saturdays with live music the place gets pretty crowded and 11 o'clock is a good time to roll around because by about that time all the girls are drunk.

We came here for a friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago. The drinks are alright and if you're with friends, the conversation is good. One of the first things we saw after sitting down though were the large "No Dancing Allowed" signs posted everywhere... not sure I'm a fan of that. However, there was a live cover band that night. They were great! They played lots of classic rock favorites, and the more we drank, the more of a sing-along it turned into (I remember a particularly rousing version of "American Pie" late in the evening). The bar would probably have been nothing special without it, but the band turned it into a really great night!

Very friendly bartenders. I had a very good cobb salad to accompany my vodka tonic. Very good music and a seemingly laid back crowd. I will come back.

Awesome Irish beer selection, even a few English brews as well. Didn't eat while we were there but the service was top flight, the place had a great feel to it, decent jukebox, and again, a great selection of draught beer. Soccer on every TV, for those who like it. Didn't go at all on the weekend so I don't know how it would be then, but during the week it was brilliant. Not too busy but busy enough that you can meet new people if you want.

i have passed by this place a hundred times but never stopped in. last friday night one of my mom's friends called us up and told us their friend was playing there. we decided to put on some warm clothes and brave the rain for some great music. the parking could be an issue but we were lucky to find parking across the street on pch. the place was small but cozy. all the bar stools where taken, and the rest was standing room only. it was crowded but i was able to get my drink in no time flat. being a redhead and irish does have its advantages in an irish pub i guess. the band was awesome and i met some cool people. great music, tasty stout. shamrocks gets two thumbs up from me.

I like Shamrocks, sure the owner is a bit grumpy but if you know the rules he would not bother you. There is no dancing, so if he tells you once pay attention. Bartenders are fine they are not grumpy maybe they just don't like you, besides why would you go there to socialize with the bartenders.

I love this place, if i were to have a "local watering hole" I suppose this would be it. Its better to go on a weeknight, not so crowded...unless you are one of those people that goes to a bar to find someone to mate with then I guess its a great place for that too. I always come here with my friends that I haven't seen in ages because you can just sit and talk and drink beer and smoke on the newly covered smoking patio. It has great bartenders and they serve food also, which I don't think many people know about and it's pretty good. They guys made me a special request of Beans on Toast one night and it was AMAZING!

I come down to Newport about six times a year. For over ten years the Rock is always a stopping spot. A real Irish bar with Irish proprietors on the premises. The regulars are friendly and the barkeeps are affable. I'm more of the sedate afternoon trade at this point, but the weekend evening music and bar scene looks lively.

can't stop the rock! this bar is tops. it's a real irish pub owned by a real irishman staffed by irish guys with irish accents. there is a smoking area if you're into that sort of thing, a new fangled digital jukebox, and bands who love neil diamond play on the weekends. it's a little difficult to understand the bartenders accents when your 3 sheets to the wind but, they usually know what you're saying and that's the important part.
