First of all, I don't even live in Modesto anymore... I have been eating chicken barn since I was a kid.... When I drive to my moms house from Los Angeles, I have to stop here. Best Chicken Nuggets.
(5)Jonathan G.
My wife and I dined there this evening around eight fifteen because she got home late from cleaning out a rental that's a hundred miles from here and didn't have time to cook. The staff were terse and impatient. We had never visited the restaurant and weren't familiar with the menu. The food was okay, but I became nauseated when the employees, who were preparing to close, started to discuss in graphic detail the scatological conditions in the restroom. I deliberately cleared my throat and moved my gaze towards the offending employees who simply ignored me and raised the volume of their conversation. The soda had a mild mildewy aftertaste. I think they should clean the hoses in the soda machine or replace them. I had a college instructor twenty years ago warm the class to not drink fountain soda for that reason. Shame on me, right? I will not recommend this business, nor will I visit again.

No frills no atmosphere fast food alternative to the standard chains. Except the chicken here (as long as you're okay with non-organic, possibly no free range) is pretty good. I got the chicken nuggets 5-piece which on a Saturday came with a bonus side order of spuds. The nuggets were made with actual pieces of chicken breast which were moist and tasty. I didn't care for the breading they use to fry it but my two companions liked it. The spuds were 3 gigantic slices of real potatoes (not potato mash reconstituted to fry shape) also fried in the same batter. The valley sauce was slightly sweet, as was the bbq sauce. I preferred the tomato sauce (also sweet) mixed with the hot sauce as dip. Two order of the nuggets with gigantic spuds came out to around $9. Not bad for a lunch for two.

I wanted chicken really bad so I decided to try this place. I must say the chicken wasn't to bad. It could use a little bit of seasoning but they have salt packets so I made the best of it. I ordered a 3 piece combo it came with 2 sides and a biscuit, for my side I ordered mac and cheese and potato spuds. DO NOT ORDER MAC AND CHEESE, it was soooooooooooo nasty! The spuds were ok. It's something to try if your in the area. For me it was a 3 star place. Would I eat there again??? PROBABLY NOT.

When I was a child, my father was a breeder manager at Foster Farms. When I was around 10 years old, Foster Farms opened exactly 2 restaurants in the central valley; 1 in Turlock, 1 in Livingston. When I moved to the Bay Area in '94, I would still have Foster Farms every time I came home to visit family. It was a reward I'd consume on my way out of town. Sometime around the turn of the Millennium, That Foster Farms closed. Where the hell am I going to get my gargantuan spuds? Chicken nuggets that weren't just ground up chicken paste? AHHHHH! Many sad years passed, and I was sad to come home and see the new STARBUCKS where my beloved restaurant used to be. Then it happened. Some crazy person got all of the original recipes and created CHICKEN BARN. It is EXACTLY the same. It is astoundingly good chicken. You owe yourself a visit. Get extra napkins.

Whenever I visit my parents in Modesto I have to stop at chicken barn!! The food is so delicious fresh and amazing! I wish they had one in Fresno I would be there all the time it's just that good! The taste has not changed since the first time I went there in 2006 you guys are awesome will be coming back for more next time I'm in town love it!
(5)Stephanie D.
I have been eating at The Chicken Barn (formerly Foster Farms) since the 1980s, when I was a wee child. Even though the name has changed, the recipe is still the same. Same great chicken, same awesome spuds. I always get the 5 piece nugget meal with spuds, biscuit, and drink whenever I'm in town (since I've moved elsewhere). I recently discovered that the Saturday daily special lets you order 5 piece nuggets a la carte and you get a free side, so that saved me a bit of money since I didn't need a drink and biscuit. The nuggets are far superior than any fast food chain because they are actual pieces of chicken instead of small, processed patties. The interior hasn't changed much, if at all, since the 80s, but who cares? I come here for the food and the inside brings me back to my childhood.
(5)mateo r.
Mediocre fried chicken. Crappy mac n cheese. Bad customer service. Won't be coming back. Rude lady at register topped it all off.
(1)Joy K.
The chicken can be hit or miss, but the spuds always hit the spot. The drive-thru is fairly fast and they have daily deals (we go on Saturdays for free spuds with chicken strips).
(2)Richard F.
Since I was doing business at McHenry Village, and it was a very hot day at about 105 degrees, I decided to take a food break at the Chicken Barn. I ordered a fried chicken meal with potato wedges and coleslaw. The employees were friendly, the place looked clean and I got my order quickly, but my main purpose besides simply being hungry was to get out of the heat for a while, and it seems the Chicken Barn doesn't believe in air conditioning much. It was uncomfortably hot and I couldn't wait to leave. The chicken was quite bland, and coleslaw mediocre, but the potato wedges were excellent. Perhaps I'll come back during the winter months and order just the potato wedges, but this isn't a place I'll be making a regular stop at, especially on a hot day!
(2)Tiffany S.
Better than KFC! I finally got the chance to try The Chicken Barn & really liked it. The chicken was very moist & actually tasted like chicken! The mashed potatoes were also good. At first I wasn't sure what to expect since it was empty, but it was good :) you should definitely give it a try!
(4)David E.
Loved you when you were Foster Farms in Stockton....COME BACK!!!! The BEST Place for chicken nuggets and the freshest chicken...cheesecake is awesome too!!!!
(5)Mor L.
My first time dining out here and the food is way better than KFC! The chicken was so yummy that I had to stop by before my way home which is 36 miles away.
(4)Nicole T.
I went to the Chicken Barn for the first time, because I had a Groupon. The certificate notes TWO $10 groupons. I read this as $20 worth of food, but the cashier would only redeem $10. I paid for 2 groupons and that's how it printed out. So I lost $10 worth. As for the food, not exactly the best fried chicken I've had, but isn't terrible either. I found the pricing to be fair, and the Chicken Barn offers daily deals too. In my opinion, the price of the kids' menu is over priced for what is served. My kids didn't seem to like the food as much as I had hoped. They had the nugget, 1 piece chicken, mac n cheese and spuds. The teriyaki bowl was good, but I wouldn't order again. The actual place is nicely decorated and clean with respectful, friendly staff. I hive an extra star for the staff.
(3)Cindy H.
My fiancé and I always order the nugget meal with spuds and valley sauce. The food is always hot and fresh and the employees are very friendly. Great job.
(5)Keaton N.
Great chicken place for the family. The food is good though I thought the flavor or seasoning was a bit inconsistent - one piece has more flavor than another. My 4 year old niece was a little confused at the nuggets because it didn't look like the McDonalds nuggets but she eventually warmed up to it and ate them without the sauce. My only wish is they had a liquor license but I get why they don't.
(4)Marco M.
Save yourself a trip here chicken was greasy with no seasoning. Mac and cheese was worst than the one you make at home. Floors were dirty . The bottom line it sucked!!!
(1)Ken T.
I just went there for the first time and it was the best. I tried both bbq and the reg off the hook. Coleslaw spuds and the biscuit all great.
(5)jennie f.
Chicken nuggets are good. Macaroni is nasty watered down. BBQ sauce watery, and ranch is sweet yuck don't waste your money here on this fake food, unless you want just chicken.
(1)Clarissa E.
Yuh-um!?! I wish this place would open a store in the Bay Area. I LOVE their chicken sandwiches and spuds. Drool. I too - came here on the frequent growing up and I absolutely love how their atmosphere and recipe has remained exactly the same as I remember it as a child. It's one of my go to spots when I find myself in town. It's definitely an authentic ma/pa local joint.
(5)Ty L.
When they are hot and fresh... this place has the best fast food chicken nuggets in the entire country! That and some of the mustard sauce and some spuds, this is some tasty fast food.
(4)Ed X.
Bun ice cold. Charbroiled chicken warm. No hats on food preparers. More bun then chicken. Flavor saved the lunch.
(3)Josh N.
Thank goodness I don't live anywhere near this place. This place blows away KFC, Popeyes, Church's and dare I say Chick Fil-A. The chicken nuggets were not pressed chicken and were nicely fried. The Spuds were crazy good! These slices of whole potato are coated and fried and are quite possibly the best treatment of a potato I have had in awhile. The biscuit was nice and moist. This feast set me back 6 bucks. I am so glad I don't live close.
(4)Hailey M.
Love the food here and have been a loyal customer for years. Although I was very disappointed tonight that I arrived at the drive through 3 mins to closing. (Not knowing that they closed at 9) I waited for a response. I didn't receive one so I drove to the window where the girl inside deliberately ignored me through the window. That's now how u should treat customers. A simple hand gesture through the glass saying sorry we're closed would have been great or even if they wouldn't close early. 3 mins might seem like nothing but I was more irritated about being ignored when I'm choosing to spend my money there. It will be a while before my family goes back
(3)Sebastian P.
Bomb chicken nuggets, dirty place. Save yourself do not go robert ervine will kill them
(3)Kim H.
My husband has been coming here for years and always really likes this place...he was the one who introduced me to it. He came in Friday night around 15 minutes before closing time...there was a young apparently very unhappy girl who rang him up. First of all she was very rude and told him he had to eat outside in the 60 degree weather because they were closing..he was ok with that he is always very polite..she gave him something he didn't order that was dry old and disgusting. He still didn't complain. This rude girl came out side while he was choking down this nasty food just to get something in his stomach and he asked her to bring him out a napkin since she forgot to put one in his bag and she said no were closed and walked away!! I am outraged this person is lucky I wasn't there that all I have to say. They need to fire her immediately...I am a waitress and I am appauled!
(1)Alexandra B.
Was told by a couple of people that this place has the best fried chicken in town and I had never been so I thought I'd give them try. All I have to say is I have never had fried chicken taste so dry with little to no seasoning. My biscuit was stale and the coleslaw had way too much mayo in it. Maybe I'll go again in the future but for now I'm going elsewhere.
(1)Charlie O.
Stopped here for lunch one day last week and was mildly surprised at the size of the pieces of chicken. Bigger than KFC but that's where it stops. The side dishes were not the best and the chicken was rather greasy and was undercooked. YUK!! Whoever is the check-in duke or duchess??? Welcome to it.
(3)Paul M.
Da Grease Barn takes poor little critters & fries them with lots of oil & grease! I have no idea what motivated me, besides morbid curiosity to eat TONS & TONS of grease here. As you try to grab and bite into the little greasy critters, the "food" slips and slides away from you hands and your gapping oral-face....and lands with a PLOP ! Onto your greasy, sleazy lap. Your are then ready to burb, fart, and have a greasy lap dance! If you are into TONS & TONS of grease... and want to clog every damn artery & vein in your entire damned greasy damned body... and enrich your very rich local Cardiovascular Surgeon WELL BY ALL MEANS.......Grease Up! Even a Barnyard Animal would not be caught dead here....OMG... then what was in that GREASE BALL that just slithered down my STUPID DUMB PIE HOLE? BTW- Foster Farm gave up on this ULTIMATE GREASE BALL a long long time ago! & so should you! BUT ......IT DOES MAKE A GREAT LAXATIVE! BETTER THAN A PRUNE & GREASE SHAKE! BTW- FART...FART....FART...I got to run....got the runs.....yuck! eeeeekkkkkk the John is OUT OF ORDER........ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP! !##$%%&&***((FFFFFUUU&&^^%$##$%^&^&**CCC((**&^^%^%Â%% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP! Run to another bathroom and hope......... E! EEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!
(1)Marian W.
The food at Chicken Barn is delicious! They use good quality chicken. The batter used for the chicken and spuds is light but very flavorful. They have the perfect crunchy/salty(seasoning) ratio. The Valley dipping sauce is a must for me when eating the nuggets. The biscuits are great with or without butter. There's a reason they've been in business for all of these years!!!
(5)Dale N.
Decent chicken...a respite from KFC, Popeye's or Churches... Had the three piece dark meat meal. Included two sides...spuds (wedge potatoes) and coleslaw. Chicken has a light batter on it. Not real greasy. Two of my three pieces were hot and fresh. The one thigh must have been for a previous batch...not quite as fresh. The spuds... oh, the spuds...I could have made a 'not-so-healthy' meal out of them! It would have been easy. Very good. Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside... I can tell, you are getting hungry and wanting some now! :) Coleslaw was fresh, crunchy and tasty. The dressing had just a very slight sweetness to it. I also ordered a bbq chicken sandwich ($1.99) Great value for the buck. It was basically a large hamburger bun with shredded bbq chicken on it. It could have used just a bit more bbq sauce but other than that, it was yummy! I would return....
(4)Eddie G.
Girlfriend and I decided to try something new and decided to try the Chicken Barn. Absolutely not disappointed, great food and the chicken nuggets are so delicious. We told the cashier that we were new and she was very helpful. Great service with great food who doesn't want that? Needless to say I'm a new regular!
(5)Michael M.
I was rather disappointed in the chicken here. The seasoning was OK. The breast and wings were a little dry. The legs and thighs were better. The mashed potatoes were awful. Service was detached. Not a stand out place. Too bad, I was hoping for more.

So I worked at this place for over two years. This was my first job. And it was the worst experience of my life. I was told to cook food WITH BUGS IN IT. I wish I had quit sooner than I did. Basically I started out as a dishwasher, where you work from about 5:30pm-9:30pm scrubbing the crap out of dishes, using chemicals that adequate protection was not given for. They had paper thin plastic gloves that would rip in two seconds if you used them. I essentially had to get degreaser and oven cleaner all over my hands, which resulted in numerous cuts on my hands that would never go away. I pretty much lost my fingerprint. I never complained, and eventually I moved my way up to a cook position, monday-friday, 8:30-4. This was where the stupidity began. The owners, Roy and Amy, expect you to do backbreaking while they pay minimum wage. One of the main things that caused me to leave was the fact that they made me cook food with bugs in it. Yup. You heard me right. In the breader they used, the shipment was infested with flour bugs called weevils. And I essentially said to the owners that I'm not cooking food with bugs in it, and they told me either I do that or I am going to be fired. Yes. You heard me right. I had bugs all over my hands as I was breading the chicken. And when the food was finished cooking, you could see bugs cooked into the food, and they served it to people. I'm not lying, as farfetched as this sounds. Anybody who wants more information is more than welcome to ask me. After the bug incident, I experienced so much abuse. One of the managers would slam things whenever she would be next to me, and be EXTREMELY passive aggressive toward me. So when I asked the general manager to do something about this, the abusive manager exploded on me with nasty, hateful, personal comments. This ultimately caused me to leave. There were other terrible things I can say, like the fact that they essentially make you work after you clock out so that you get your stuff done. When I would cut myself cutting chicken nuggets and they didn't have any first aid, I would have to risk touching the chicken with bleeding hands/fingers so that I wouldn't be yelled at for not getting my prep work done. the chicken nuggets are advertised as 1 ounce, but I was told to weigh them to 0.9 ounces to save money because "customers can't tell the difference". Crazy stuff like that. The ownership does not care for their employees. They pay managers barely over minimum wage. There are cockroaches ALL OVER THE PLACE. I would NOT recommend this place to anybody. Please stay away.

I want to talk to Amy the owner of this chicken barn. She is a good person. I was not very satisfied at the chicken barn on Oak dale road last week. My wife went there and ordered 10 chicken nuggets. when she got home we had 5 nuggets and 3 Large orders of spuds. which we didn't order. My wife paid for 10 nuggets and got 5 and also got 3 Large orders of spuds which we didn't want. Apparently My wife got the persons order that was in front of her in the drive through Im sure he was also pissed when he got home with our 10 nuggets and No spuds. I lost the receipt so I don't know if I can get my money back. But id like to talk to The owner Amy about this because Ive had other problems at this Oakdale chicken barn in the past. and in my opinion, they need more training so that they can get orders correct. JKW AE6DF @Comcast.net
(2)Sean B.
Food took too long and the staff can be rude. Nobody looks happy to be at any of these retailers. Personally, I would rather go to Popeye's. PLEASE GO TO POPEYE'S!!
(1)Wendy B.
This place was recommended by a local. You can expect fast food, gooooood crispy chicken, big pieces, with a simple seasoning! I would take a short cut off the freeway just for this. Just forget about the sides other than the potato wedges (spuds) and biscuits(these come with your order). Well, maybe the cole slaw, but it has a lot of mayo. On the other hand, I liked the celery seed element. But the macaroni and cheese was forgettable, the corn was boiled way too long. Mmmm, that southern fried chicken. It reminds me of the good old days.
(5)Jamie G.
This place is amazing! My parents eat here all the time --- and the owners are SO nice the cheezy spuds are to die for!
(5)Matt R.
Oh my goodness! I love this place. I grew up going here as a kid and every time that I went here I always got greeted as I came in and the staff was always friendly, being more that happy to take care of me, as needed. The spuds and valley sauce are to die for! I love the chicken nuggets too. So good.
(5)Delaine Z.
Nice fast food chicken place. Food is good and fresh; service is pleasant and efficient. Although owned by Foster Farms, factory raised chicken, it is a good place to occasionally stop for a bite to eat when shopping at McHenry Village.
(3)Binks G.
Been here twice and both times the service was anything but friendly. First time my chicken was decent, second time it was soggy, both times my sides were bland. Not really worth my money, I'll stick to Popeyes...
(2)Jahvance B.
This was my first time here. The chicken is really good. I had the chicken nuggets with spuds and a biscuit. All of it was really fresh and hot with great sauces. I wish there was one in the bay area. Definitely coming back.
(5)Luke S.
Great place, I got the filet meal and 15 chicken nuggets meal deal. I loved it!!! The employees were really cool too. I just wish this place had ice cream like the one on oakdale.
(5)Sonye' C.
I used to live In Modesto but now I live in Corning. I really miss my Nuggets they are to die for! The service is Great! Oh yes, can't forget about the potato wedgies OMGOSH! BBQ sauce! so come on out and try them out! Whaooooo!
(5)Shawna M.
Always fresh....fast....and friendly service. Great chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches. The chicken filets are white meat and are very juicy. The spuds are crispy and delicious dipped in their tangy BBQ sauce. I always eat at the McHenry location ONLY! Recently discovered their cheesy potatoes which is great for sharing as it will fill you up. Yummy! Highly recommend
(4)Elizabet L.
The portions a pretty decent, I really liked the chicken nuggets. Biscuits were pretty good. Reasonable prices. Definitely would eat here again.
(4)Albert R.
Besides the spuds, everything was below average. Biscuits were burnt, chicken was mostly skin and fat and mashed potatoes were bland n gravy was lumpy with citrusy kick. And way way over priced for the average to below average taste.
(2)Fast Food P.
I ordered a BBQ Chicken Breast and Macaroni & Cheese for $3.84. The Chicken was tender and juicy. The BBQ Sauce was very good. The Mac & Cheese was great and went great with the BBQ Sauce. A very rare Drive Thru offering of BBQ Chicken.
(5)Liz S.
20 dollars wasted on dry, grease flavored chicken, nasty potato wedges and overcooked Mac and cheese.. Never again.. Popeyes is WAY better! I don't know what people see in this place... YUCK!!!!!
(1)Nora A.
I love coming here but today again a new face! Food was great up until the biscuits were uncooked. Customer service wasn't the best. There was a spill and trash underneath tables which gave the restaurant a dirty feel.
(3)James P.
Food was great as usual but the service is awful. Drive-through attendant was short and rude with responses. Also was complaining out loud about a driver who was ordering food. Service all in all ruins the want to go back.
(2)Nicholas C.
This place really doesnt look all that great, but there chicken speaks for itself. Alittle something different from the ususal fast food restaurants. I was definitely impressed on the qaulity here. The service was quick and the employees were very polite. Only negative is that i think they should have some type of buffalo sauce.
(4)Nate S.
I used to go here, at least, 3 times a week when I attended Modesto Junior College. Love their chicken and spuds. The chicken nuggets are awesome... and, though they used to be Foster Farms, they kept the same recipe and great quality.
(4)Liz R.
Admittedly, I preferred the Chicken Barn when it was just plain old Foster Farms, but they really didn't change anything about it. The chicken nuggets are our family favorite, with spuds and biscuits, of course. The spuds are delicious! Every once in a while, we will get some chicken that has too much gristle, or is not cooked as well as it should be, but nine times out of ten it is really good. The staff is always polite and helpful, the restaurant itself is reasonably clean, and it has all that great chicken and barn decor. KFC can't touch this place!
(4)Alex C.
I can't remember the last time I ate at a place, and it put me in a really bad mood.. I've been to this place on an empty stomach one time and I always wanted to come back because eating the chicken while driving made everything taste so much better.. Well my second time around wasn't so great.. We went inside to eat and the whole outdated vibe of the place gave me this cheesy Grand Theft Auto vibe.. Where do I even begin with the food??? I ordered the ten piece chicken meal and got only two pieces of potato wedges WTF man?!?!? That's equivalent to four McDonald's french fries lol.. Super annoyed by now.. So I tried the corn and I swear these guys had just chucked it from the farm they got it from without even bothering to cook it.. Super duper angry.. Then there's the ten piece chicken I got.. Undercooked and cold... The misses and I were so disgusted by this place we just left.. There was no chance in hell we were staying to finish this junk.. Oh yeah, the Cherry Pepsi was to die for.. Freakin "F" this place maaaan... Two pieces of potatoes. Corn sucked. Chicken undercooked.
(1)Amanda H.
Confession: this place struck me as super sketchy for years, but it wasn't until I read the yelp reviews about the spuds, that I worked up the courage to give it a shot. I've been back a couple times now, and I just order the spuds. If I were on death row, and could only select one side, these potatoes would be on my short list. They are totally addicting, so be warned. Everything else I've ordered (chicken strips, a bbq sandwich, etc.) I'd label as underwhelming. Order. those. spuds.
(3)Patrick M.
The last time I came here was over 10 years ago when it was Foster Farms. I was craving some barbecue chicken so after reading the reviews, I drove up here from Stockton to eat since there is no place in Stockton that sells barbecue chicken that I know of. I was not disappointed. It was delicious just like I remembered it. I don't think they have changed much here. The chicken was great and so were the spuds. Beats KFC. I will definitely be back!
(5)Matt S.
pretty good for a fast food chicken place better than KFC little pricey but worth it not a huge chicken fan but it will do and you will get full
(3)William L.
Excellent chicken!!! Breading on the chicken and wedges is unique and mouth-watering, not yucky greasy or measly portions like KFC. Potato wedges and biscuits are awesome too :) I go here every chance I get and it's always worth the drive.
(5)Sandi A.
Have to say I've had some inconsistent meals here, but when it's good, it's really good. The nuggets are about the best chicken nuggets anywhere, but the real star is the Valley sauce (which is the base for their coleslaw). If you're lucky to get it the first day it's made, the coleslaw is great - otherwise, a watery mess. The BBQ chicken is fantastic when done right too - crispy and well coated. Try the filet chicken sandwich BBQ'd as well, really tasty. The skinnier spuds are the best.
(3)Marcia M.
their chicken nuggets are the best in town... all white meat, hot and fresh. giant steak fries called spuds and homemade coleslaw are great accompaniments, and the biscuits taste like homemade. ask for honey. They usually have left over chicken discounted and cold..great for lunch boxes. I dont like their gravy..order it on the side ,then see if you agree it tastes like cheap vegetable soup. senior discounts available. Nuggets are best choice in menu. Convenient drive through... delicious anytime of day or night.
(5)T S.
My husband is a fan more than me, he LOVES the chicken nuggets with the bbq sauce (he says he can drink it lol) I do have to admit they are good but I would't jump for joy if I had to eat here! The whole inside decor is way outdated, it needs a little lift :) My favs are nuggets, char boiled wrap and the cheesy spuds....
(4)Lon M.
All my friends rave about this place so it being next to my daughter's orthodontist I figured we'd give it a try. We ordered a 10 piece nugget meal with spuds. The chicken was bland and almost lukewarm and the spuds were decent. I figured it was just the staff working and not caring about the product they put out. So, a month later, we did the same thing, same order, same crappy product. I could've gone to KFC and got something way cheaper with more flavor. Supposedly the one in Livingston is way better, but I'm not holding my breath.
(2)Brian H.
That ole' chicken barn she ain't what she used to be Ain't what she used to be Ain't what she used to be When it was called Foster Farms it was something to see but now it's the Chicken Barn and she ain't what she used to be Chicken used to be moist Now it's just dry Ain't what it used to be
(2)Eduard B.
This place is the best chicken in town. If you like BBQ chicken. You tell them you want it "double dipped" ooooo mama it's so good!!!!!
(5)Wendy G.
Chicken nuggets and spuds are the best. With Valley sauce.
(5)Kellene M.
Always a good go to. Tried the cheezie spuds, they are a meal in itself. Not for the calorie counters. My kids love the nuggets (better than McD's) . My favorite is the fillet bbq chicken sandwich. The workers are always nice.
(5)Bianca R.
I love the chicken filet sandwich with bbq sauce and potato wedges. I have been eating it for over 15 years and it never dissapoints. My husband for some reason has some bad idea of this place but finally tried it and now he want to come more than me!
(5)Hair Bear T.
Love, Love me some Chicken Barn......
(5)Manjit Z.
Any time we're anywhere close to Modesto we have to stop at the Chicken Barn. Just thinking of their chicken pieces gets me drooling. A no fail order is chicken pieces, skinny spuds with valley sauce, my inner fatty emerges every time we eat here. I don't know what they use to batter the skinny spuds but they are the best and the chicken is always cooked perfectly. They definitely do chicken right!
(5)Ed S.
Eh, it was ok. The chicken was hot & jucy, but the BBQ sauce was very messy & bland & I prefer the skin on chicken to be crispy or I take it off & toss it (which is what I had to do-toss it that is) & the mac-n-cheeze was pretty blah too. Not to likely to stop here again.
(3)Daniel R.
Strong Competitor for KFC! Food was fresh, hot and just plain yummy! Friendly staff!
(4)Glenn T.
I love chicken barn! Good food with low prices. Reminds me a lot of Chic-Fil-A but I like the fact that its a local place.
(4)Tom G.
Four stars for the food, brings back memories of the Foster Farms Chicken chain. I however am taking one star off for the cashier taking my order from the drive through register even though I was inside ordering, and another for wasting time asking for ID on purchase of under $10. I am not a big fried chicken fan so I haven't tried the fried chicken.... but the SPUDS at the place are crispy on the outside like a piece of fried chicken. The potato is a huge wedge of real potato about 6 inches long, crispy, crunchy, moist and creamy potato on the inside. I think some places call this jo-jo's and these spuds are no jo-joke like the little wedges you find at other places.

Growing up in Modesto in the 80s and early 90s, there was one place my entire family loved to go -- Foster Farms (now known as the Chicken Barn). I think my little brother was literally raised on the chicken nuggets here. He used to say "chick-n-nug" before he could say most other words. Anyway, this was a fast food hotspot. High quality chicken products, and completely blows KFC out of the water. Not even in the same stratosphere in regards to quality or taste. After I moved away from Modesto to NY, and whenever I came back to visit with family, I would always stop by. It was a chain, with about five different lcoations around Modesto and Livingston, where the actual Foster Farms plant was. The main hub was on McHenry, the main street in Modesto, and across from it was a Foster Farms building / distribution center. Anyway, everytime I came back to Modesto, they were closing down the Foster Farms right and left. This was very disconcerting. Now, there is only one left (the one on McHenry) and they renamed it to "The Chicken Barn"... blasphemous! The best thing there of course is the chicken nugget meal.. delicious, tasty morsels of white meat breaded in their secret ingredients, and it comes with your choice of sides. You would be crazy not to order the spuds.. crispy large potato wedges sent from heaven. You would also be crazy to not ask for the bbq and the valley dipping sauces. The valley is like a tangier ranch dressing -- proprietary information, seriously! Anyway, you really can't go wrong ordering anything from here. Long live Foster Farms!

Every time I roll through Modesto I stop here. I used to work at Togo's right across the way and have been coming here since it was Foster Farms. The quality of the food is still high quality. The chicken is always tender and tasty. I agree with Jovi, the chicken pieces are to die for! Huge chunks of juicy chicken breast! YUM! The mashed potatoes and gravy are the best!

I don't know who all these stupid people are who are giving the chicken barn chicken a bad name but you guys need to get your head on correctly. You don't go to chicken barn and only order bone-in fried pieces then start making baseless proclamations about kfc and popeyes. The chicken nuggets are the star of chicken barns menu. Tender, moist, crispy, flavorful deliciousness. Ive been eating chicken nuggets since I was three in 89, and I still love em. When my family relocated to so cal in 99 I had some of my cousins ship me nuggets every month. I still make trips with my gf and grandma up to Modesto from corona regularly just for nuggets. 12 hours for nuggets is nothing. I wish I could start a franchise down here, people have no clue what they are missing.
