So the reviews were spot on here. Thank you yelpers. Always use here and Trip advisor for reviews of places. We ate here last night, place was packed. I ordered fried chicken, which I never have, thought WTH, diet will be after super bowl, he ordered prime rib dinner. We both loved the food. Can't wait for lunch to eat the fried chicken cold too that i have left over. We are new to the area and looking to relocated in the gold country and Mariposa is on our list of potiental places to live. Plus, Yosemite is right up the road(I believe 45min- 1hour drive from here). Service was excellent too. They open the patio when weather gets warmer for more seating. We will be back here for sure. Thank you

ALLERGY-SUPERFRIENDLY!!! Besides having the best burgers and fries EVER for those without food allergies, 1850 has the most amazing vegan menu for those of us that do. The staff was so helpful and so willing to accommodate our every dietary need, including being aware of cross contamination issues. The food is FANTASTIC. The portion size is CRAZY BIG. The service is PHENOMENAL! BEST part of our experience was watching our highly allergic son eat his first ever restaruant dessert. The Piña Colada Sorbet with Sea Salt Caramel is totally vegan, made in house, and TOO DIE FOR!!! BEST coconut milk ice cream I have EVER sampled (even though I only had a bite before my son scarfed it down!). 1850 is a MUST when visiting Mariposa!!!

We had burgers, and they are great. The rest of the menu was really well thought out and well organized. Clean place, really well put together. If I lived closer I would be here again in an instant.

Awesome! Comes to mind. We each had the smoked prime rib she medium rare and I medium both with green beans and garlic mashed red potatoes absolutely fabulous. The beer menu wasn't too shabby I enjoyed their Warpaint IPA. We finished the meal with their toasted marshmallow creme brûlée was absolutely delectable and a wonderful way to end our meal.

This place is fantastic!! Great food, good service and relaxing ambience. My boyfriend and I went to Yosemite to celebrate our anniversary! Well we were starvinggg after a long day of hiking & decided to head into Mariposa for a celebratory dinner. He got the surf and turf- a delicious 10 oz NY steak with shrimp & I got the scallop special- came with a rice pilaf and fresh veggies. So.Good!!! Both our meals also came with soup or salad. We got a bottle of Pinot noir (like I said we were celebrating!) that was really good. The server was so helpful in providing recommendations. I will definitely come back here again!

Wow! What a pleasant experience. My family and I enjoyed the Pork Chop, Surf and Turf, Mac and Cheese, and Fried Chicken dinners. Everything was awesome. The green beans were a little undercooked for our taste, but were flavorful. Finished with the most amazing creme brûlée ever! It's called the White Chocolate Creme Brûlée, which at first we were apprehensive about a non traditional version, but so happily surprised!

Absolutely delicious food, a good wine selection and fantastic service to boot!!!! The adults had the steak and the kids had macaroni and cheese and chicken strips. They were equally delicious! This does not discount the quality of the steak at all but speaks very highly of the quality and taste of all the food! Highly recommended!

We were staying in Mariposa to go hiking in Yosemite so we thought we'd try this place. After a long day of hiking sitting at their bar with a beer was really nice. I tried one of their own microbrews and honestly I didn't really care for it that much, but it was cold beer so it was refreshing anyway. The decor was really eclectic and cool. The servers were very friendly and fun to talk to. I ordered a tri tip. I've never seen that before, apparently it's a common cut in California. It was like a cross between a steak and beef brisket with a peppery bbq sauce. It was very good and a huge portion. I could only eat half of it! I would definitely come back the next time in am in town!

Excellent ! Great service, friendly and delicious food. Pulled pork was outstanding and my wife had the steak which was excellent. Great small town restaurant and good atmosphere ! We will come back when we visit Yosemite !

Wow!!!! My husband and I were staying in Mariposa after we visited Yosemite on our way to Napa and when we first arrived in town we were surprised what a small town it was! Skeptical, we checked out the concierge book with menus at our hotel and I was immediately drawn to the 1850 menu! We decided to give it a try and we are SO GLAD that we did! Everything was amazing! The host, who was also the owner, was super friendly and helpful. We ended up meeting an older couple who were beyond friendly and sweet who were locals and had nothing but good things to say about the restaurant, staff and management. We ended up ordering the baked Mac and cheese, salmon salad and wedge salad. All of our dishes were phenomenal. We also enjoyed the house white wine which was perfect! For dessert we had the blackberry Chardonnay gelato which was out of this world! I have never had anythig like it! We are from New York and we are happy to say that this restaurant and service is beyond anything we would have expected in such a small town. This restaurant could seriously be a huge success in New York City. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone driving through Yosemite! One of the best dining experiences we have had in our tour of California!!!

Modern Californian in disguise (is "1850" a big enough hint?), this place is really American through and through. The food served has a very traditional American concept -- burgers, mac n cheese, chicken wings, and the portions are very American-sized. As for the food, well, it's heavy. Very heavy. Most things tasted pretty greasy with a little "oh, they threw in a hint of something different there". They definitely tried with the twist in the ingredients, but it ended up being halfway there with shaky basics. On the other hand, I'm pretty grateful to find this place driving back from Yosemite. It's a glorified diner, but a pretty darn good one comparing to a fast food restaurant.

The food was good. My friends started with salad while I had the soup and we were all happy. Two friends got burgers that were healthy servings. Another friend got a steak and enjoyed it. I had the seated tuna. It was good. I really enjoyed the vegetables - done perfectly. Their beer/wine selection was good too. Lauren was our server and despite working inside and outside, she was very attentive.

We stayed two nights in Mariposa, we had dinner at 1850 both of those nights. Yes, it was that good. Shall I just end the review here? As a San Francisco city dweller with absurd access to dining options, I did not expect many exceptional meals from our little visit out to the Yosemite Valley. My boyfriend booked a reservation at 1850 for our special occasion meal and it was nothing short of fabulous. I loved every bit of the experience! - Warm, inviting decor with some artsy, quirky elements. - Happy hour specials ($3 draft beers, house wine specials, and $10 beer + burger) The 99 Golden Ale on draft was my boyfriend's favorite! I preferred the refreshing pink wine. :) - Cozy booth seating - Incredibly friendly service! It seemed as if every staff member working front of the house stopped by to check-in on us or wait our table. Then...the food! We came back a second night because we determined that there was more to try! Mac & Cheese (4.5 stars): such a rich combination of cheeses and bacon. Ultra creamy, really heavy! We recommend a half portion to split if you're ordering entrees. Fried Chicken (5 stars): So great that we ordered it both nights! A large portion of the airline (boneless breast + drumette) cut. The breading, perfectly crisp without coming off too greasy, locks in wonderfully moist chicken meat while the ginger/soy sauce drizzle adds a welcome sweetness to this traditionally salty dish. Love! Pork chop with brandied pear (3.5 stars): Great concept, but definitely not the best I've ever had. The m Bootjack burger (5 stars): BBQ sauce + onion rings + cheddar cheese + bacon means that this burger is basically a glorified Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger, but 100x more delicious! Would order again. :) All meals came with choice of soup/salad and cornbread - super sweet! Looking forward to our next visit to Mariposa for another opportunity to dine here. 5 stars for sure!

Great vibe, friendly wait staff, quality food and portions(the black and bleu pasta was exquisite) and an overall great experience for these out-of-town diners......

Really enjoyed our meal this summer evening. We had our dog with us so we ate outside, which was perfect. Good drinks, great service and good food. My tri tip salad was really good, although I'd ask for rare next time since the medium rare was closer to well done. But it was still all very tasty. Everyone in the fam was happy with the meal and ambience. We're here for a few days so it wouldn't shock me if we came back soon.

Upon arriving into the city, my wife and I were famished. You might ask, "Why didn't you stop at In-and-Out on the way into Mariposa?" To this, I will respond, "You didn't hear the whole story. We came in from the OTHER side... we just hiked Half Dome." Thus, after a day of apples, granola bars, and the best Lunchables we had ever eaten, we spent a pretty penny on a dinner that was way too nice. But to this day, our experience at 1850 has a special place in our hearts. The menu offerings, though prepared by a passionate chef, seem to be a little eclectic. Alas, it is California, and my purist roots ought not take precedent. Sweet potato fries, pastas, mac and cheese... rounded out by a decent wine selection, at least for a mountain town that boasts 100 degree summers--no bueno for wine storage. For a nice, sit-down restaurant in a one-road town, 1850 hits the spot. Service fires on all cylinders, and the grub errs on hearty and rustic.

I can't even imagine why this place is so overrated. The only honest review is the guy that gave it 2 stars. First of all, the decor and ambiance is terrible. Cafe wooden cheap tables and fake cafe vinyl chairs. Drab colors, horrible lighting. I might as well have been in a Denny's (except then I would know what I was in for). Cramped space. Just BAD. Food... Awful and over priced. I've eaten all over North America and some of the best places. I do have a bit of a mature palette compared to the standard restaurant goer, but it's really really bad food. There were 9 of us in our party and not one plate was appetizing from a visual standpoint. It's like when you make a greasy steak in a pan at home and slop it on a cheap white plate with all the splatter and blood and whatever drippings were in it scattered all over the plate. Disgusting. Everything was overly greasy. I had the "special" prime rib that they only serve on Fridays and Saturdays. They should only serve it "never". Very thin cut of substandard beef, mostly fat. The color was like carne Asada instead of the tender cut it was supposed to be. Again all the juices all splashed all over the plate like a 2 year old plated it. Dessert... This is the kind of place that serves a "birthday cake" creme brûlée...in other words, they've "improved" upon an already perfect dessert by topping it with - get this - whipped cream and sprinkles! The chefs need to be fired. Finally, the service. We had reservations for 9. They seated us in a cramped booth and were just never able to keep up with drinks, requests (simple requests for ice or more water or extra napkins). It was a Mother's Day dinner for my mom, my sister, our husbands and our kids. We couldn't get the waitress to take a pic of the table of is because she was too busy. She wasn't rude at all, just overall our table wasn't really on anyone's priority list. After reading all these reviews I was extremely disappointed in everything about this place. When you pay $17.50 just for a burger it better be a damn good burger! And it just wasn't. Also, the menu they have now is not the same or even similar to the menu posted in previous reviews. Their "seafood" options are salmon and trout. That's it. Just... Save your money. It's not worth it. Unless of course you're the kind of person that really thinks creme brûlée needs to have sprinkles and whipped cream on it. And if that's the case, you're probably 8.

Sat at the bar, waiting for our table. Bartender completely ignored us. On my birthday. Super unfriendly.

Not to waste too much time on this review because we spent far too much money on a weak meal and I'm over it... but the only decent things were the Ribeye, NY Strip and pork chop were all tasty. That was it sadly. The black bean chorizo soup tasted out of a can and extremely watered down (dare you to find more than a bit size piece of chorizo). The before dinner bread tasted like it was about to be croutons as well as stale. The mashed potatoes were straight out of a box and served via an ice cream scoop, so gross. Lastly when I order a craft beer I'd like it not to be short-filled with a giant head. Oh yeah and our waitress was not very good.

This was an absolutely amazing place. I wanted to eat somewhere in Mariposa since we were there for Civil War Days visiting friends. I looked at Yelp to get some ideas and as we drove through town we passed this place. I saw it had some good reviews but I couldn't access the menu to get an idea of prices, so we pulled over to check it out. We decided to give it a shot, and boy are we glad we did! The staff was amazing. As we stopped to check out the menu on the window, one of the hostesses grabbed a kids menu an plastered it against the menu. Score! We headed in. The place was clean and everyone we encountered was great! We ordered the Finney Fries to start and it was amazing. Easily a meal by itself. Fries, garlic, pub cheese and steak topped. It was unbelievably good. We had to force ourselves to stop eating it so we would have room for dinner! To start with I had thier homemade Cream of Tomato soup - Excellent! Everyone who tried it, loved it. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Pork Chop, I ordered the Black and Blue Pasta, and my son ordered the Fried Chicken. Everything was heavenly. It literally should be a crime to have such amazing food. It was rich and flavorful. We couldn't finish our entrees it was so rich. Against our tummy's better judgement we also decided to order dessert. Every dessert the serve is home made and a little piece of heaven. We ordered the Brownie which is homemade, and it came with homemade Vanilla Bean ice cream. We also ordered the Toasted Marshmallow Creme Brule. I can't say amazing enough in this review. The desserts were to die for. I seriously cannot stop raving about this place. My daughter had the kids Mac & Cheese and absolutely loved it. No Kraft crap here - penne pasta with their homemade pub cheese. Plus, It's all local ingredients! So you are supporting a local business that is supporting local growers! It's a Win-Win-WIN! It was definitely worth every single penny we spent! Cannot wait to go back!

We stayed in Mariposa on our recent trip to Yosemite. The food was delicious after a long day of hiking. The fried chicken was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend and I both were appreciative of the friendly staff. It was so refreshing to have a team waiting on us that genuinely cared about our experience.

Came here for my birthday dinner after a day in Yosemite. Small but quaint place with a great outdoor seating area. Small but good craft beer selection. I had the double stout and it was fantastic. The trout was moist and flaky and loved the rice. Heat food and attentive staff. I would recommend it to anyone passing through

Overpriced average burger and food. Obnoxious 'owner'. Poor service. Not my thing but if overpaying makes you feel like you got a better meal have at it.

I can't believe this place has such a good rating! My boyfriend and I stayed in Mariposa for a week and decided to try this place for dinner on a weeknight. I don't know if their good cook is only in on the weekend, but we had some of the worst food we've had anywhere! My boyfriend ordered one of the nights specials - a burger with ground bacon in the patty topped with chorizo, and pepperjack. First off - it looked disgusting. The patty was an unnatural orange/red color and was very dry - I definitely think it had been frozen (and freezer burned). And the chorizo was gross - on his first bite of the burger, he was unable to bite through the weirdly thick and plastic like casing on the chorizo. He had to take it apart and peel it off! It didn't help. The burger was so gross he took about 2-3 bites and was done with it. I had the black and blue pasta - and I was equally as disappointed. The sauce tasted like it came from a jar and it was topped with a few crumbles of blue cheese and a pile of some of the most rubbery, sinewy meat I have ever had. Half of it was inedible because it was pure fat and sinew, and the other half was so tough I had to really saw through it. Gross. I ate a few pieces and was done. Plus, if you're going to charge $20 for a pasta dish it should at least be edible! The service was ok - the young girl we had waiting on us that night didn't seem too concerned when we handed her back the barely eaten food and said it wasn't that good. And one other annoying thing about this place - they only have one door leading to the kitchen, so every time someone goes in or out they scream 'DOOR!' I totally understand why, but when there are only three tables seated in the restaurant, it can get extremely annoying hearing someone scream 'DOOR!' right behind you about a hundred times. Definitely would not go back to this place!

This place is a MUST especially if you're coming back from Yosemite after a long day. The burgers and beer were just what we needed and they were delicious (and the beer is pretty cheap)!! Our friend also got the tri-tip with the potatoes and salad which she said hit the spot also. Service is great and the place is super cute - I loved the lightbulbs :) It does look closed when you drive up but don't let that turn you away! This will be our stop now every time we pass through on our way back from Yosemite

On our first night in town we hit up 1850 for dinner. For a Friday night there was no wait. Cornbread was great. Salad was good. Fried chicken was excellent. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip too. Outstanding. Quick service. Very friendly atmosphere and looks to be popular with the locals too so you know its not just for out of towners. Solid restaurant. Would surely come here again. Thanks 1850!

This place is EXCELLENT! They are very gluten free friendly - when I asked about gluten free options the chef came out to reassure me of the offerings. Also, their salad dressings and desserts are made in house and I had the best balsamic vinaigrette I've ever had here. Hope to come back next time I'm visiting Yosemite!

This restaurant was one of my favorite things about visiting Yosemite! We were staying nearby in Midpines, so we would go into Mariposa for dinner each evening. We enjoyed the food and service at 1850 so much that we went back for their happy hour on our last day there! They have excellent food, I recommend the garlic fries (they were delicious!), wonderful service, and a great selection. Everyone working there was extremly friendly and courteous, and made us feel so welcome. They also have an excellent happy hour from 5-7 pm, although it is only available at the bar. I would recommend this place to everyone passing through Mariposa, and will definitely be back to visit the next time I'm in town!

I wanted to come back and add a star after my last experience. I enjoyed my dinner a lot more ( salmon) and our server was very nice and attentive. I may have given 5 stars but I had a to go dessert (which I rarely do) and it wasn't good. The pistachio cheesecake. It sounds awesome & I love cheesecake, but this was just weird, it didn't have a cream cheese taste at all and it wasn't creamy, it was a weird consistency and over priced at $8. I threw it away after a couple bites and had ice cream instead, chocolate of course lol

For a small resort town, you cannot get any better. Try the smoked beer cheese soup - it's AMAZING! The service was great, prices were great, and the food was inventive and delicious. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Who would expect a tasty, good value, inventive restaurant in a small town? I didn't. The restaurant is pretty. Although it is right on the highway, they have an outdoor area that is fenced off and feels like a little oasis. It's a great spot to relax after a workout at Yosemite. The food was amazing (and smart). I had a green bean casserole soup which was amazing. It doesn't sound awesome, but it was! The chicken was very good, a little different from basic fried chicken, but very well cooked, tasty. They have a lot of interesting (not your average) items on the menu, and they all sound delicious. Their menu is more extensive than the online menu, btw. This place was a great find. The service was friendly, warm, and efficient.

This place was outstanding. An absolute treat with outstanding customer service. The owner personally made sure we were satisfied and gave my daughter the best Berger she has ever had. The prices were outstanding. Pleasantly surprised that this quality of food was so reasonably priced. Don't miss this one.

We had a large group that I needed to arrange a meal for. I talked with Hanna (the owner) and she was so accommodating and helpful. She always got back to me promptly as we worked out the details of our group. The night we all went to eat, the service and food was excellent and we were all so pleased with the restaurant. It was a great choice!

The staff was quite friendly and they are very helpful if it comes to special wishes. The food was nice ( it really wasn't bad ) but it's not like I would come back especially just for the food.

  • Artem Z.

Disappointed. Overall nice place, but it took too long (maybe 25 min) for them to prepare 3 burgers. One burger instead of "medium-well" was overcooked and dry, we said "ok" but it was really not good so we asked to replace the patty for "medium". The "second try" patty was "well done" instead of "medium". Another burger was undercooked.

Excellent ! We have eaten there four times and have never ordered a thing we didn't love. Best fried chicken I have ever had. Staff is warm and friendly. The food prices are fair and drinks are affordable.

This place was a great find! I will remember this night well. Great food, drinks, desserts, ambiance, and staff! If we are ever in Mariposa again, we will for sure check this place out again. If you can, sit out on the patio. We got sprinkled on, but it was worth it.

This place is my new favorite! The decor is VERY tasteful. It's simple but pretty -- I have 100 ideas now for wine cork crafts :) 1850 has focused on gourmet American food with a great wine and beer list. I came in with my husband and our friend and even though there was a 15 minute wait for a table, we were seated in the bar area immediately and offered drinks and appetizers. We chose the $18 bottle of house red called Protocolo. What a great price point for this yummy, dry and spicy Spanish vino! We picked a day when I had very little time, so I left before dinner. I am SO dying to go back. My husband said the scallops were great. I had seen before I left that there is filet minon, burgers, etc. on the menu. To be continued with an updated FOOD review! I'm just so pleasantly surprised by the opening of this gem of a Mariposa restaurant.

My family really enjoyed our dinner at 1850! There were 4 of us that went and I tried everyone's dishes (venison, prime rib, vegetarian indian tacos & fried chicken) and each was one delicious! I would order any of them again! My dad got the prime rib and he said it was better than the prime rib that he gets at Black Angus Steakhouse because 1850's prime rib was smoked for 6 hours and it had tons of great flavor. My dad said that the portion size was also larger (it was a huge piece!) because it was 99% meat and didn't have the string of fat that normally comes on prime rib. My husband's fried chicken was probably the best fried chicken that I have ever tasted. I loved the wasabi cream sauce that came with it! I would order this next time for sure! My mom is a vegetarian and there were a lot of vegetarian options available - more so than any other restaurant in Mariposa. She actually had a hard time choosing between them since they all sounded delicious. She ended up getting the Indian tacos that were huge and loaded with tons of fresh ingredients and a tasty sauce. I got the venison which was special since I don't think any other Mariposa restaurants serve it. It was perfectly prepared and the sides of green-beans and ranch-mashed-potatoes that came with it were delicious! In addition to those, another complimentary side included with the meal was a soup or salad. I got a salad and was impressed that 1850 offers a variety of unique homemade salad dressings such as artichoke vinaigrette and pomegranate vinaigrette in addition to the standard salad dressings which they also have available. We went on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for dinner and all but one table was full. Despite the restaurant being busy, we had excellent, prompt service. We had a reservation and were seated immediately (there was a reserved sign on our table). Our waitress was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long between courses to get our food. Overall the food was delicious, the ambiance was nice and the service was fantastic - I will be back and highly recommend you try 1850 too!

Delicious!! The staff is friendly and warm, atmosphere is inviting and fun and the menu is full of both home-y favorites and unique twists. They have some seasonal items and all of it sounded amazing. My husband and I had a terrible time deciding what to get because everything sounded so good. We will definitely be adding this place to our must-do list in future trips. Worth the drive!

With a combination of gray service and amazing food, this place is a must for anyone within 50 miles to visit! I truly wished I lived closer so I could eat here again. The Black and Bleu entree is one of the most well balanced plates I've ever enjoyed. The steak was deliciously seasoned, the parpadelle was al dente, and the sauce was creamy with the perfect touch of bleu cheese.

The 50/50 burger was amazing and the beer was great. Sauces had great flavor as well. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating of food allergies. Will be back again.

Best fried chicken I have ever tasted. Their sides are phenomenal, theirbeer selection is excellent (on tap and in bottles). There pulled pork egg roll special was outstanding as well. I have eaten here 3 times now and a everything I have ordered as been excellent. The service is excellent as well. The only complaint I have is that they aren't located closer to were I live.

We have been here several times since it opened and I think they have finally gotten all of their kinks straightened out. We have had consistently good food and service here recently. I love the new bar that they put in, I just wish they could serve mixed drinks. The calamari app. is really good and so is the fried chicken. I think this restaurant has a very bright future ahead.

Top notch! We finally tried 1850 tonight and loved it! Great for a date night out in town! Great beer and wine selection, friendly service, and a wide menu! I had the trout, delicious!! And the poached pear for dessert was amazing! Walked out really happy, will definitely be back!

Excellent burgers and ice-cold beer. The artichoke app is awesome - will be making at home soon. Not fancy, not high-end but solid food with genuine service. Mariposa really feels like a nice small town....check it out before tourists wreck it.

1850 was a great recommendation! After two long days of hiking I was craving a burger and a beer. I was recommended by Vicki at River Rock to come to 1850 and sit at the bar. We always sit at the bar when traveling so you can talk to the locals and get great suggestions on what to do/where to go/etc. We ordered the BootJack burger and Salmon Salad, both of which were tasty and homemade sauces. The meal started with some cornbread and delicious artichoke and squash soup. They had a great selection of beers to choose from. Service was friendly, great atmosphere and good food. Very reseasonable priced and a great place to grab a good meal!

The food was amazing. I had the filet mignon, with blue cheese. My husband had the fried chicken and my very picky son had a burger. We all cleaned our plates. Even though we were stuffed, we had to try the desserts. These were home made and soooooooo good. I recommend the cappuccino cheesecake. I want to eat that at every meal. To top it off, the staff was very friendly and professional, especially LIzz.

We are locals and had friends in town over the NY's holiday and on 1/2/14, took them to 1850. We hadn't yet eaten there since the new ownership. The greeter that approached us as we came in could use a bit of training, but very pleasant. Hanna, one of the owners was our waitress/server. Have to hand it to Hanna, she did and impeckable job at the menu description and specials. She impressed our guests as well. I've been in food service/hospitality all my life and have to say, we will definitely be back. The food was excellent. KUDO'S TO THE NEW OWNERS Now this restaurant should have been one selected for business of the year...NOT "PIZZA FACTORY"

First time for dinner at 1850 was a great experience. Started with friendly and inviting staff. Waitstaff were very attentive and very good at conveying the meal choices. Irish Nachos were unique and amazing and addictive. Salads looked great and my puréed potato soup with leaks was equally so. Best fried chicken ever!! Surf/turf, salmon and everything else was perfect. Enjoy.

Not a bad dish yet. Love the fresh food and good wine. I recommend the fried chicken. The food always cooked to perfection. Their kids menu even looks appetizing, and my son loves the food.

Amazing dinner. We went all out and had 3 full courses. For appetizer we had their special which was pulled pork garlic cheesy fries. Perfection! For our dinners we had the fried chicken and camp fire trout and we both had the chicken tortilla soup. The fried chicken was wonderful. Every bite was so delicious! The mashed potatoes and green beans were buttery awesomeness. For desert we had the brownie and red velvet cheesecake. The brownie was so light yet very chocolatey and the cheesecake was more of a cheesecake flavor with a hint of red velvet. The pulled pork fries and fried chicken were my favorite. I highly recommended 1850 Restaurant and well definitely come back on our next trip through here!

We decided to head up to Yosemite for the weekend but decided to stay a night in Mariposa before heading up to the trails. My boyfriend and I had no idea where we would eat dinner for our first night so we started walking and came across this very inviting old western gem. The menu had so many tasty and savory options but for starters we chose the salmon cakes for an appetizer. The salmon cakes looked a bit burnt but they were packed with a power punch of flavor and crunchy goodness! For our entrees I ordered the "Black and Bleu" pasta. For someone like myself who's a cheese lover the pasta was as tasty as any pasta I've ever had in my life. Lastly, my boyfriend enjoyed the "New York." His words to describe the steak, "this steak is life changing!" The only knock I have on the restaurant is I really didn't like the feng shui, I'd like to see them do a remodel on the place (new tables). Finally, all I'll say is if you're in Mariposa you definitely have to go eat at 1850!

Food was phenomenal! The squash ravioli was amazing and if you have the chance to get the 50/50 Burger you must! Our server was nice and very friendly. Prices are very reasonable

My husband and I were tired from sightseeing in Yosemite. It was dinner time. It was Valentines Day. We had no reservation. Not good. We walked into 1850 and were greeted warmly and graciously. No reservation? How about a seat at the bar? We cautiously accepted. We were hungry. What might have been a dubious honor of "bar eating" was wonderful. Turns out the owner/chef (Jake) likes to take a turn behind the bar on weekends. He was gracious and knowledgable. Whether it was about what beers I might like (FYI they have some home brews on tap) or menu selection, Jake was a delight. We were thrilled to see that, even though they faced a fully booked house they didn't succumb to the "limited items" menu so common on busy days like Valentines. Full menu. Great choices. I had the smoked Prime Rib and my husband had the rack of lamb. We both cleaned our plates. Flavorful. Balanced seasoning. Tender meat. Crisp green beans. Great job 1850!! We will be back.

This is what a restaurant should be like! Fantastic staff and incredible food. We got lucky stopping into this place last weekend, the hostess/busers/cook/and waitress were all very friendly and didn't make us feel like tourists (which I'm sure they get a lot of.) Food was unique and very well prepared. The fried chicken was phenomenal. The Indian Tacos were really great too. All in all, a perfect visit! We will be back...

Came here after realizing that the town of Mariposa closes up early on Sunday nights during the off season in Yosemite, and we are so glad that we did! The decor in the restaurant is very attractive and the menu has plenty of options suitable for any taste. I ordered the tri tip with grilled veggies on top, mashed potatoes, and veggies. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with it was tasty too. This meal also came with a cup of soup (roasted pepper) and it was perfectly seasoned. My husband was quite happy with his burger, which was also quite filling after a long day of hiking in Yosemite. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I ate at 1850 once. I have scallops and my wife had salmon, both were delicious, and the service was good as well. I will definitely go back again. The prices are higher side, and the food is worth it. 1850 stands out as one of the best restaurants in Mariposa.

So it all started out good. Great artichoke dip. Great salads. Then my tri-tip arrived, and it all went downhill. Took a bite and it was cold. I asked my wife to take a bite to make sure it just wasn't me and she agreed. So I asked the waitress if it was suppose to be a cold dish and it wasn't. So the waitress asked me to take my tri-tip and put it on a small plate and she took it away. A bit later I asked about it. Turns out that they were just warming the meat back up. I didn't want "leftovers" for dinner so I asked that she just not bring it back. Why not just serve a fresh meal? Maybe because it was 10PM? Either way this totally ruined my dinner and overall experience at 1850.

So I am a bit torn about this. First off, this is not the kind of restaurant that I ever go to except on vacation, because it's standard, American fare, California cuisine, etc., that I can do very well with at home. A little bit pricey - appetizers are $8, entrees are $13-20ish (steaks are more.) The atmosphere is great - very simple decor which doesn't call attention to itself, but is clearly well thought out. The service was outstanding - I mean really outstanding. So if atmosphere and service are very important to you, add at least one star to this review (food is primary for me.) I had the artichoke appetizer, which was fabulous, one of the best artichokes I've ever had. The stuffed pepper was completely unremarkable. Decently flavorful, but nothing to write home about. The vegetable side of the day, which was sauteed carrots, onions and squash was similarly unremarkable. My dinner companion had salmon, which she liked, and she said the potatoes were nice. I'm a very good cook, but I'm not a chef - but I could have made these dishes somewhat better. I live in the Bay Area, so comparing this restaurant to a Bay Area restaurant is unfair, to say the least. I waver between 3 and 4 stars, because for Mariposa, this place is actually pretty great.

Finally had a little time to go out and I'm thankful I did. What a great find. I don't order chicken in restaurants but I did today. Stuffed airline chicken breast. Wow. Fantastic. I highly recommend.

I had the shrimp with pasta last night. Was WONDERFUL! Had to post a positive A+ for this restaurant. Such a nice place to eat. Everybody is so friendly. The owners are always welcoming and attentive. The portable mushroom was my favorite, now the shrimp dish is! Great place to eat!

Great in every way. The food is unique -fabulous and they have fantastic service. I thought the prices for local high end dinner are very reasonable . On your way to or from Yosemite it's a gourmet oasis . It's right on 140 .

We just had the best dinner ever. You have to order the Ahi Nacho's appetizer. I would drive 5 hrs just for that. We ordered, pulled pork, fried chicken, and Boot Jack (burger) Everyone was very impressed with their meal. (Rice Pilaf or Mash potatoes) didn't care for their rice so they brought me a side of mash potatoes. Major yum on the mash potatoes. Friendly staff and the prices are great too.

great dinners when i am feeling like spending some money for great food, i had the fried chicken (great) and the burgers(blue and reg.) both fantasic, the only reason i do give 5 stars is due the service, not the food , slow and forgetful , bigger tables means more money and that seemed like the case far to clear the times i have eatin there, great food

I am not a friend or family member of the owner as someone mentioned in another review. I am a bay area grown foodie who picks vacation spots based on what food is there. This is a good spot for a nice sit down dinner that doesn't quite match the higher prices of savourys, but is higher than some other spots in town. First off service was grand. Drink refills, check ins, and my favorite judge of customer service... They took my peanut allergy seriously. Burgers are under ten dollars. I had fried chicken with wasabi sauce for fifteen. Came with a veggie and potatoes au gratin. Huge piece of chicken that wasn't greasy, and nicely seasoned. Free range and for me that is a plus. Taters were well seasoned with some quality cheese in there. Entrees range in price, and you can get burgers, venison, fried chicken, fish, etc. So a good range. This is a great option of you want something a step up from sugar pine but not quite the prices of savourys. I hope the service and food quality endure! It's great to finally have something at this location to be excited about. I will definitely be back.

Under the new chef, this restaurant shines. Being a newer transplant to the area from the Bay and "back East," I am ecstatic to have nothing but positive things to say. The fried chicken was Free Range, meaty and boneless. Potatoes were flavorful and still had a chunkiness that I love. Couldn't have been better prepared. The calamari was tender and although I didn't taste everyone's dishes, people at the table didn't talk much, if you know what I mean. Happy to herald this newer gem!

My family & I had the pleasure of dining here tonight. Excellent food & service! I had the chicken stuffed with spinach & sun dried tomatoes, with a side of cornbread stuffing & veggies. All cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the tri-tip sandwich & he said it was fantastic. They also have a kids menu. My son (a super picky eater) loved the chicken strips & fries. My daughter had the Mac & Cheese - also delicious! We will definitely be back next time we are close to Yosemite.

My wife and I have lived in Mariposa for a year and a half, and this place really hits the 'sweet spot' for us. The portobello burger didn't do much for me, but the fried chicken was great and the Thanksgiving burger (turkey burger topped w/ stuffing and cranberry sauce) was excellent. My wife's had the pork chop, salmon salad, and stuffed bell pepper; all fantastic. The servers are attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is casual, the seats are comfortable, and it's tastefully decorated. As Mariposa restaurants go, it's definitely a notch up from the standard menu at the Sugar Pine (maybe even their specials, which we love), but doesn't cost as much as Savoury's, our go-to spot for celebrations. Like I said, it's just right - give it a try! Note: They've continued to improve the place and tweak the menu since our first experience. And for the record, we have no connection to the owners beyond them recognizing us when we walk in.

If I lived in town I would probably eat here almost every day! Burger heaven. They are also about to add a homemade veggie burger that we got to beta test. I eat meat, I will definitely be eating the veggie patty too. Sooooo good everything every time.

We ate here on a Wednesday night in July after a day-long hike in Yosemite. I had the night's special appetizer, which was a flash-fried calamari with tartar sauce and a sweet chili dip which was a great alternative to the usual marinara. My main course was the flatiron steak with a mushroom red wine reduction sauce, also very tasty. My girlfriend had the grilled shrimp cocktail which she said was good and the steak salad, which she liked even though the meat was a little less done than she had wanted despite a rather lengthy discussion with the waitress about degrees of doneness. It wasn't a big deal but it did disappoint her just a little bit. The house red wine (Protocolo) is respectable and quite inexpensive at $18. We sat on the patio out front so I can't say anything about the decor inside, but I don't go to a restaurant for decor anyway. Overall, we thought it was a great meal and it was much better than we were expecting. Glad we stopped here.

I have been to this establishment three times and I think the last time was by far the worst. My family and I (4 of us) ate at 1850 for dinner a couple of weeks ago. We arrived at the restaurant around 7:45 and were promptly seated at a booth in an almost empty room. There were only three other tables when we sat down. Service seemed to get off on the right foot. Then, as the evening went on, the service worsened. First, we ordered our dinners from our young waitress, two of us ordering pulled pork. Our waitress returned soon after taking our order to inform us that they were out of pulled pork. Instead of the BBQ I ordered, I decided to go with a hamburger, cooked medium. While waiting for our food, one person in our party ordered a second beer. It took the waitress 15 minutes to return with the beer. By this time we were almost the only table left in the restaurant. When our food came it was a disaster!! The french fries were freezing cold, there was a hair in the salad, my burger was well done, not medium. Worst of all, they put shrimp on an entree that was supposed to be chicken!!! Is this establishment aware of FOOD ALLERGIES and how severe they can be?? I cannot, for the life of me, understand how the chef failed to prepare our food correctly when we were the last table to get our food. Beyond that, I cannot believe that our waitress continued to serve us this terrible/incorrect food. They didn't even comp us for the incorrect order! The icing on the cake came when we had to trace down our waitress (who was at the bar chatting) to pay our bill. Get it together 1850! You have a great opportunity to stand out above the other restaurants in this small town. Do better.

We were on our way out of Yosemite and looking for something more than burgers or pizza for dinner. 1850 was our first choice and we were NOT disappointed. Other reviewers have mentioned how good their service was, and it was just as true for us. But the food is what really caught our attention. I had the Chipotle Chicken and my wife had the Rainbow Trout. Both dishes were prepared *perfectly* and were absolutely delicious. This was the best dinner we've had in Mariposa. 1850 is our new favorite in town!

A small relatively new restaurant in Mariposa. Moderately priced, attractive, but casual. I had the scallops-delicious with cheesy au gratin potatoes, sautéed zucchini, carrots and onions. Tender and not overcooked. My hubby had the pork chops-he said they were tender and delicious. Others in our party had burgers-no complaints there. My sis-in-law had a Caesar salad with a nice looking chunk of chicken on top. They had broccoli cheese soup, which I was sorry I didn't try. Desserts weren't sampled-maybe next time. Service was prompt and courteous. Give it a try!

I've now been to this restaurant 3 times. The first time it was fantastic, I went with 3 people we all ordered various meals and were all extremely pleased with our orders. The second time I went with a different group about a month later. I had been raving about how great our new local restaurant was, and looked like a fool when our orders came. Portions had gotten much smaller and the quality just wasn't there. Scallops undercooked, beef well done when asked for med rare. The only person somewhat happy was the one who ordered a simple salad. Yet being a small town with limited options I thought I would give it one more go. Things went from bad to worse, my fish was under cooked and when I complained I was told very Rudely by the wait staff that was how it was suppose to be and I basically didn't understand fine dinning. I may be from a small town, but travel often and have even eaten at a couple Michelin star restaurants and know how fish should be prepared!! I will not be returning nor encouraging anyone else to do so.

Being a life-long Mariposa resident, I have to admit, I'm happy when I have a new place to try. My husband, 8 year old daughter and I tried 1850 and will definitely be going back! They started us off with some tasty cornbread muffins and honey butter. Different and fun. Good so far. But it gets better. My husband said the Bootjack Burger was a 10. And he likes his burgers. He purred through dinner. I felt like trying something different (there were so many interesting choices from burgers, to steaks, seafood, chicken and veggie entrees) so I went out on a limb and ordered the stuffed bell pepper. Holy crap! Who knew! A huge, sweet perfectly grilled bell pepper stuffed with a heavenly mixture of wild rice, goat cheese and other delicious morsels, served with mashed potatoes (with just the right texture-this I know because I'm a mashed potato snob) and sautéed squash on the side. Normally I order beef or chicken but I'm glad I didn't. Really flavorful and filling. Our daughter, Miss Picky, chose the mac & cheese off the kids menu and we were pleasantly surprised when it was a good size bowl of super cheesy, gourmet pasta. She finished the bowl. Total shocker because she eats like a bird. You can't beat that for $5.00. The whole thing was cheap too! We were so happy with the food and could not believe our bill was $35.00! AND the super friendly waitress gave us a $5.00 off coupon for next time. We will definitely be back. You can go dressed up, or in shorts and fit in. You've got your choice of an $8 burger on up to a fillet mignon. Super laid back, but just a touch of class-perfect for us. JUST WHAT MARIPOSA NEEDED!
