What was referred to us by a hotel concierge , turned out to be a horrible restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a fishy and rotten smell. We had to seat ourselves and were waiting almost 20 minutes before a waiter even arrived to our table. A simple cup of water took another 15 minutes to get and a cup of coffee took 45. Our waiter had little knowledge of the menu and came by very infrequently. Along with the drinks, the food took even longer and was very average quality. The tomato soup tasted right out of a marinara sauce jar. Overall, poor service with poor food. Only convenience, open late hours.

I forgot to mention that they have a lovely large outdoor deck overlooking the marina, which is heated when necessary. I've been back for a third and fourth time and was more satisfied than my second visit, but not as impressed as with my first. The past two nights, I came with groups, so that makes once by myself, once with a friend, and twice with a group of five or six others. I think everyone was satisfied with their meals. Last night, I ordered the spinach salad, which was tasty but not spectacular. Too much oil and not enough vinegar for my tastes. But it was large and had a lot of bacon in it. Today, I ordered the reuben, one of my favorite sandwiches. It was great. Lots of good pastrami and a great spicy thousand island -- but not enough sauerkraut. If I order it again, I'll ask them for more sauerkraut. They can even go lighter on the meat. Their onion rings are da bomb! Thinly sliced sweet onions fried to perfection in a light, crispy batter. All in all, I think you'll get a good meal for the price, the servers and other staff are all friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is grand. I recommend the shrimp benedict and the onion rings, not necessarily in the same meal.

Ok. So waiter , josh, didn't bring cutlery or water. I ordered killer shrimp and an iced tea and apparently a long wait. The iced tea took forever and was a 3/4 glass of room temperature tea. Wasn't offered a refill. Shrimp came. The bread was stale but the shrimp were fine. I asked for water. The water came when I had finished the entire meal and with the iced tea glass clearly empty. Lots of apologies, not a lot of service. There were about four tables to wait on so maybe this was too much to ask for. Then I asked for the check. The waiter brought me change and said it was about 25 bucks and did I need a receipt as he had closed me out without printing one. I did. He brought it after another wait. Interestingly he had rounded up as it was not 25 but 24 something. The busboy Victor tried to help along the way but couldn't help such lousy service. Maybe they should give him a promotion as he clearly saw that I was totally annoyed. Food was meh, but at least they are open late and apparently if you are there late you don't mind such awful service

I just got a Togo burger. It was so over cooked someone should smack that cook. It is almost laughable how over cooked it is. Awful So I gave this place another chance. And it was much better. Huge cookies by the counter.

Have maybe found my go to breakfast place. Came here after checking on yelp good breakfast place close by and was steered here. Two of us had the steak and eggs, hash browns, the others had crab eggs benedict and hamburger patty w/eggs. Let me start by saying all of these dishes come with a brick of hash browns that are to die for. And yes I did say brick because when they brought the plates out we really had to do a double take as the hash browns were literally the size of a small brick. The texture was light and fluffy with a light buttery taste that is to savor. I personally had the steak and eggs which was cooked perfectly. The meat was very tender and kinda melted in your mouth. We also ordered fried avocados and pickled onions. This should be ordered every time. I've never had this before, but you can be sure I will have it the next time. The good about this place is that it is opened 24 hours, how can you beat that coupled with the food. Winner! ! Overall rating: coming back again and again

Early Saturday morning start. We used the special for free coffee with meal. Our waiter Pedro was nice and we sat down immediately. We were so excited to have breakfast there and Pedro brought us coffee right away and ordered it wasn't hard to decide. My friend ordered the Crab Benedict with hash browns and I ordered the Shrimp Benedict with home style potatoes. We had to wait a little bit but we were ok with it. We were served our order and my friend's hash browns were incredibly delicious and he enjoyed the Crab Benedict. Ok, here we go! My plate unfortunately was cold. (Both the greasy potatoes and the Shrimp Benedict) I told the waitress which just arrived on shift that my food was cold. So, she took the plate up to the kitchen and told them. So, my plate was brought back hot. (And, I DO MEAN MY PLATE) grant it they provided a new Shrimp Benedict that I had took a bite of. But, for crying out loud it was still cold. They freakin heated the plate and forgot about the food. Ahhhhhhh! So, I just ate the Shrimp Benedict and left the greasy potatoes. (Didn't want to cause a scene and it wasn't the waiters fault) therefore, for the waiters sake I left exactly a 15% tip. Knowing I would write this to warn anyone coming in the morning. (VERY DISAPPOINTED) Good Luck!

Killer Cafe or Killed Cafe? We had a Groupon and a Disaster for breakfast. Walked past the hostess station that said seat yourself at any clean table. There were several dirty tables on the way to one clean booth. It looked nice outside so we switched, again a couple dirty tables and maybe this one is "clean." I started the coffee timer. It took over 10 minutes to get a waiter and cup of coffee. Strike One. The coffee was good. My wife ordered some water without ice. The waiter brings her ice water, Strike Two. The patio is nice, on the water. That morning around 9:30 the gardeners were trimming the hedges for half an hour, deafening. Breakfast came out, but we had to wait for them to bring us silverware. Erggh! The chicken fried steak was bad. The breading fell right off, the meat was like carne asada, odd. The potatoes that came with it were horrible, we both agreed. The wheat toast was fine, but they forgot to bring it. Said it didn't come with CFS, but I placed a side order! This is now like Strike Six It was tough to get a refill on coffee, the waiter was awol and unobservant. No manager on the floor. Strike Seven, Eight,Nine. It is time to retire the side, never to return. I swear this is the worst breakfast I've ever had.

I went here with high expectations when I was reading other reviews and looking at the menu. Not too impressed. I got the killer shrimp breakfast burrito, it was basically just a breakfast burrito with steamed shrimp. I thought "famous killer shrimp" would have some kind of seasoning or kick but they are boring plain shrimp. I would've been better off just getting the $5 plain breakfast burrito. After our dishes were bussed my friend and I had the check delivered, I told the server I had the Yelp free cup of coffee coupon and he looked annoyed and said "well you should've told me before" and walked quickly away before I could even mention we also wanted the checks split. This annoyed him even more and once the checks were split he switched up our tabs and rang them on each other's cards TWICE (even though our receipts were wrapped around the cards). We were both annoyed that we didn't even want to deal with it and left without fixing the card transaction issue.

Service was very up and down. Waitress was familiar w menu but was not able to budge on our needs. Lobster bisque was completely water based and had little or now flavor clam chowder was actually really good. Steak was horrible. No flavor and tough as can be. Waitress was a little slow. And never to be found. She was assigned 2 very large tables? Why? But who am I to tell mngt what to do. My seafood salad was awesome but how can u mess up a salad?

Oh Killer Cafe, we want to like you. We're trying....twice. But slowwwww service and SUPER long wait times to get food is not helping. And the food while good, is not great, so it does little to make up for the overall average (and slow) dining experience.

The breakfast is the bomb! My favorite is the Eggs Benedict and corned beef hash! The cafe is always busy during breakfast.

My sister is a big Groupon person and she always has a groupon for the Killer Cafe. She insists on coming to this place and since she always pays, why not? We get together here once a week, always on a weekday, always at 10:00 am. The service is wonderful. The coffee good. The build your own omelet could be bigger but not to worry, I just order more food. (Get out your purse, Sis.) The grapefruit juice is always fresh and sour. The eggs over easy are always cooked just right. The pancakes are big and fluffy. It's so relaxing afterword to sip coffee while gazing over the harbor as my sister blathers on about...what is she talking about? Now, I'm the one insisting we meet here.

  • Brennan J.

Very slow for not being busy, and food was so-so. French dip was more bread then meat. Meatloaf tasted like they used ketchup to cook it. Did I mention it the service was very very very very slow.

Killer Cafe has a nice, chill atmosphere and great food. As an out-of-towner, I felt welcome and appreciated. I came in on a Tuesday night to eat, use their wi-fi, and stream my favorite shows. No eyebrows were raised, no questions were asked. I was encouraged to stay as long as I'd like. You can't find that just anywhere. Even better, my waitress watches Better Call Saul too! Will come back!

Absolute worst service EVER. I met up with my friend here--she arrived about 15 minutes before I did, and nobody sat her so she seated herself outside on the deck. The entire place was pretty much dead except for a party of 4 inside, and a party of 6 outside....yet the entire time my friend was waiting for me to arrive, nobody acknowledged her presence even though there was no way you could miss her with the big hat she was wearing. The waitress who was serving the party of 6 walked by her 3 times and didn't say a thing, and my friend was just sitting there at an empty table, no menus, no nothing. After I arrived, we waited for another 10 minutes before having to take the initiative to flag down a bus boy to get someone to take our order. The girl finally comes, and takes our order. I ordered the smoked salmon benedict and a side of bacon. My friend ordered the killer shrimp burrito. Both orders come with a side of home style potatoes. We waited about 25 minutes before she brought our food out, and my friend asks her for a side of sour cream and ketchup. She said she'd get it and she never came back. Ten minutes later we asked the bus boy to get it and he brought it right out. My friend had been here several times before and orders the same thing each time (the food is great, btw), so she knows how much food is supposed to be on the plate. The potatoes on our plates looked like one order had been split between the two of us. We asked the bus boy to get our waitress, and it took her another 5-10 minutes to come out. We didn't understand why she kept taking so long to come out--it's not like the place was packed. Anyway, when she came out we inquired if we got a half order of potatoes each, and she said "ummm let me go ask the chef"......she never came back. We figured we'd just eat our food before it got cold. Oh, by the way, that side of bacon I ordered somehow came out as being part of my smoked salmon benedict, which is not the way I ordered it. We finished our food, and 10 minutes after we were done the waitress came out to check on us and didn't mention anything about the potatoes she allegedly went in to ask the chef about. We just asked for the check. She went back in and the bus boy came and cleared our table. The waitress came back...with the check and a plate with a full side of potatoes on it, which looked to be the correct portion from all the other times my friend has eaten at this place. Anyway, we both put our cards down and had to wait another 10 minutes before having to ask the bus boy yet again to get our waitress so we can pay and finally leave. Still at this point, the place was still pretty much empty. While we were waiting, we didn't touch the potatoes--why would we? We were already done eating. Anyway, she brought our cards back out and we sign the bill. In sum, the service was inexplicably slow and lacking, which was a disappointment because my friend says the service is usually superb...but she's also always had different waiters, not the one we had today. I give this place 2 stars because even though the service was completely unacceptable, the food was still really good.

This is where hungry people go when the wait is too long at killer shrimp and get absolute gross food and bad service. When we got to killer cafe we seated ourselves... Waited...Got some waters...Waited... Waited some more... Got menus.... No one told us we could order a drink from next door we had to hear it from other customers.... We waited more... Put our orders in and waited some more... There is no way for the kitchen staff to notify the waiters that foods done so they just use kitchen tongs to hit the counter.... Other people's food sat on the counter for a while. I watched waiter after waiter walk past someone's food so many times I actually lost count. Other customers complained that their fries were cold. My boyfriend got the shrimp pot pie and it was hot as hell and burned my bfs hand when he used the fork to open the thin layer of crust on top. Sub par. I got the chicken fried steak and it was dry and a lot like a fried Frisbee. Barely any gravy. Mashed potatoes were hard and not creamy. Veggies shrunken and non existent. I felt like there was no skirt steak. It was all hard fried breading. Now my stomach hurts. Bubble guts. I watched a waitress make a chocolate milk or something that used milk and she left the milk container open for a few minutes... Safe? Was looking forward to my meal and was disappointed.

Came here on a Saturday morning to find that surprisingly it wasn't busy at all (hallelujah) we sat at the counter and ordered our food. I got an omelet with mushroom, apple sausage and parmesan. It came with a side of either fruit or hash browns, so I ordered fruit. Honestly the only reason I won't give this 5 stars is because it was a slow day with extra slow service. Waitresses are nice, but honestly it took way too long to get the food out. I saw it sitting under a heat lamp for an ample amount of time which is kind of odd. When the food came I kind of forgot about the service when I saw my Goliath omelette which was so delicious. Although I didn't get the hash browns, I tried my friends and they were the best I've had (I'm coming back for you hash browns.) overall this place has great food with a great patio looking over the harbor; however, service is really lacking. I'll still be back tho.

I asked for lots of napkins, got 2. I asked for lemons was told they only have a few. I asked for a wine menu, it never came. I had to go inside and ask again. The server tried to serve us another tables order! The waitress after passing by me numerous times never asked me which wine I would like. I had to go inside AGAIN! When I ordered I asked for my mayo to be on the bun and NOT ON THE SIDE I also asked for a sharp knife. Neither happened!! Had to go inside again. What a joke. Bunch of amateurs running this place. Joke.

This was my first time at Killer Cafe, I'm not sure what took me so long! We went at noon on a Saturday and got a booth inside right away. The service was quick, our waitress came to the table right away. I ordered the killer shrimp pot pie, my daughter got the fried chicken and her friend got the killer shrimp breakfast burrito. When we got our food the portions were huge! Everyone loved their food, the pot pie was awesome. I'm a big fan of the killer shrimp so this is a little like that but inside a yummy, flakey crust:) The kids loved their food too and we brought 1/2 of it home. The fried chicken had 4 pieces of chicken, a big pile of mashed potatoes and 2 biscuits. The burrito had a huge side of hash browns. So we'll definitely be back! Next time I'll have to sit outside!

Came here the morning after the hubby and I had dinner at Killer Shrimp! We were so intrigued. We were seated out on the patio overlooking the water. Beautiful view! We checked in to get our free coffee (only 1 coffee per table, which was okay since the hubby didn't want coffee). The hubby ordered the 2 eggs with bacon, hash browns, and toast ($11). The hash browns were a huge block of crispy goodness as other yelpers have described. The bacon was nice and thick, juicy, and salty (that's what she said). I ordered the cinnamon roll ($4) and a side of their corned beef hash ($7). The cinnamon roll was nice and gooey. The side of corned beef hash was HUGE! I was really surprised. It was a beautiful blend of salty meat and potatoes and onions. YUM YUM YUM! I would definitely come back for this again! Overall, we had a great breakfast on the pier. Prices are pretty average for breakfast places in LA. The good thing about this place is that it's not too crowded and there's plenty of parking. Why only 3 stars? While it was good, it didn't stand out for me and I don't think I'll be hit with any Killer Cafe cravings any time soon. However, if I do find myself hankering for some corned beef hash, I would come back here.

Decided to stop by here for breakfast because the food is amazing; can't say the same for the service today! I usually don't sit at the counter but I tend to opt for a table instead. Today I was passed repeatedly by the staff and the restaurant was not busy. No one smiled or checked on me. My meal came out wrong and when it was time to pay my waiter took a while to take the payment. I don't work in the Marina anymore so it was a trek to get here today; don't think I will recommend just based on the service and how I was treated. Friendly and courteous staff really make a difference even if the food is great. I want the whole package especially after spending $20 + tip on a meal.

Food was okay. The portobello sandwich was super bland. Nothing amazing. Pot pie average. Kids food was so-so, too. Most of the staff was friendly enough. Unfortunately, our particular server was disappointing. Long wait after ordering. Never got utensils. Had to pick some off from neighboring empty table. Another long wait for kids' hot fudge Sundae. Generally we were just unlucky with our sever. We arrived at 7:20pm and ordered right away. It was 9 pm when we left. Typically, a dinner out takes about an hour. If you want great shrimp, don't go to the Killer Cafe. Make a reservation at Killer Shrimp restaurant next door and get better service all around. Order shrimp, and stay away from other items on the menu.

Fun spot for breakfast on the docks. Large plates of diner style deliciousness. The killer shrimp eggs benedict was fabulous....I highly recommend you try it! Boys enjoyed fluffy pancakes and loads of hashbrowns....carbo loading to be sure.

Big portions, very loud, good food and nice view of the marina, but nothing great. I would not come back. The prices are expensive. Typical types of food with some creative dishes. The crab cake eggs Benedict was good & different. The service was good but there was a long wait to be seated & to get our food. I personally don't think it's worth it, but maybe with out of town guests or tourists it would be good. I couldn't enjoy it because it was crazy loud.

Outdoor? Breakfast all day? Water views? Dog friendly? Bloody Marys? Sheesh why've I been eating elsewhere!! Plus draft beer. Plus a huge easy parking lot. Plus friendly waitress. I mean come on. I'm here on a Tues at 145pm so I walked right up to a window seat! Guaranteed only a 3% chance of that happening fri-sat-sun.

Finally, a late night spot for food and drinks! We went there around midnight, the service was great~ I had the French dip sandwich which was right on! Drinks were served until 1:30/2:00a.m. as well. Billy, the manager was really cool & very polite with us! I would definitely recommend going to Killer Cafe!

  • Kerry K.

Note: the Killer Cafe is a diner with simple American food, while Killer Shrimp is the fancier restaurant next door. While they share a bar, don't confuse the two when making reservations. One way to save money would be to door in the outdoor deck of the Cafe for burgers instead of fancy fish: same great view of a Marina del Rey canal, but cheaper price. The food is so so, but less expensive, so you get what your pay for...

Awesome diner with great breakfasts. If you're staying near the marina it is a great place to walk to. Very affordable, great friendly service and awesome breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict two days in a row. My coworker had the traditional breakfast with eggs, potatoes and toast.

If I could have given less than 1 star I would have. I'm currently still here waiting on the bill with my brunch party, but the service and management are horrible. I ordered the Killer Shrimp and Grits. Upon its arrival, my food had hair in it. I sent it back expecting the waiter and kitchen to make sure I received a fresh new order. I did not. They simply removed the hair and sent me back the SAME plate. Now question this: if it was a fresh and new order, why was my food ice cold? I then returned my food and decided not to eat anything. After returning my order, management came to the table and decided to argue with me over the plate and what took place. I will never dine here again and I will always tell my friends and family to never come here because management was rude and they don't care what happens to their guest!

Bad coffee. For $3, coffee shouldn't be bad. Didn't honor $3 credit on check for "check-in" coffee offer (despite having presented it). Decent lox bagel. Incredibly mediocre eggs Benedict (smoked salmon) Not many places to eat breakfast in the Marina; this is one of them. That's the only reason to eat here. Every bit as unspectacular as Killer Shrimp next door. Meh.

If you like the flavor of Killer Shrimp for breakfast, you're in luck. There are the usual breakfast selections along with menu items done up with Killer Shrimp like eggs benedict, omelets, etc. The atmosphere is casual and there is outdoor seating. The service is very slow and the food is average. The shrimp is delicious but much smaller than what you get at the Killer Shrimp restaurant next store. The plating of the food was very sloppy.

  • David C.

Bad service, 25 minute wait to cook a scramble at 1:00 PM with half occupancy, chilli was not chilli, it's some sort of meat and bean mix in a soufle dish. Poor showing. Good thing is they have full bar.

    F. A. S. T. Review Food: I had the shrimp burrito, and it was terrible. Nobody at our table seemed to really enjoy their meals. Ambiance: The location is wonderful. Right in the marina. Great views if you're outside. Service: The hostess was very rude. Food came out slow. Server took 30 minutes just to check us out. Tips: Eat outside. The Bloody Mary was great. They are made to order and very fresh and spicy.

Every employee needs some motivation. No sense of urgency at all. Food took 25 minutes for two salads and a chicken sandwich. Lame service for a not so busy restaurant. Food was just so so. Bus Boy giving our waitress a massage at the register. Nobody gives a shit here. At least they're open 24 hours.

  • Bill G.

I have eaten here at least 20 times over the year that I have been living in the Marina. I would say that the Dinner/Late Night staff needs work. They just went to 24 hours, but the best time to go is for breakfast. Dinner and Late Night food leaves a lot to be desired. That food doesn't seem as fresh as the breakfast food.

I come here periodically with folks that live and work in the marina and I've got to say - I have become quite a fan. For starters, the food is not 'fancy,' but it's very good, and served promptly. So let's cover it: - dog friendly patio - plenty of booze options for the weekend brunch crowd - spectacular view of the marina - nice waitstaff All of the food that I've had is good. I've had the pancakes (delicious), eggs, bacon, french toast, english muffins, and yesterday, for the first time, the spicy chicken sandwich with bacon added. Delicious! Their fries are really good as well. Oh and the final cherry on top -- they have lots of parking! So drop on by. Check it out. It's great.

Ok so went here today for a weekday brunch with a friend and my 6 month old and while the food and service hasn't always been amazing, it hasn't always been too bad that is until today. I ordered the steak n eggs( med rare not well done) and my friend ordered eggs Benedict, why did it take more than an hour for our food to arrive?? Luckily my 6 month old was in good spirits or we wouldn't of lasted as long as we did. What pissed me off the most was the fact that the waiter kept leading us on telling us that we're next, foods coming! I asked to talk to the manager and the manager informed us thAt the food was on them. Would have been fine but the food was horrible! My steak tasted weird and was grayish in color so naturally i didn't eat it and I did not have another hour to kill to wait around for another. I am beyond disappointed in killer cafe and probably won't be back!

random visit here with my mom the day after Mother's Day. I had the Killer Shrimp Omelette. (Egg cheese their famous killer shrimp) with a side of fresh fruit. Mom had the spicy chicken sandwich. It had a mountain of lettuce she had to take some off. She also said the chicken wasn't so spicy. Nonetheless everything was fresh and satisfying. We went on a weekday early afternoon so it wasn't crowded at all. Only a few tables sat. I used to eat at this location when it was another diner years ago. It's located right next to the popular high casual Killer Shrimp. Nice to have the change of pace next door a beach-cafe feel. The view will bring me back here, lovely spot on the on the Marina.

I went there this morning with some four friends and a well behaved 2 year old for breakfast and I'm wondering if I'll ever be back! I'm a huge fan of Killer Shrimp and frequent many of the other restaurants that this group owns. We sat outside because it's a beautiful day with a great view. The sun was directly in my eyes and beating down on 2 of my friends at the table, I asked the waitress if we could move an umbrella and her response was " no, we don't move them." I thought that was odd considering that they're moveable umbrellas and that there were 6 or 7 of them on top of each other. A different table opened up outside and we asked if we could move because we were totally uncomfortable with being 100% in the sun. We were told that we couldn't move because a chair in the aisle is a fire hazard. Fine, I totally get that. We asked again if there was anyway that they could move the umbrellas and this time the answer was no because it would disrupt the other diners. I saw the general manager or owner (I'm not sure which 1 he is) and I asked 1 more time if anything could be done. At 1st, he said no that the other diners wouldn't be happy. He finally moved it about an inch or two and it solved our problem. This might sound like it's not a big deal but being made to feel that we were less important as the other diners there's is a horrible feeling! My money is just as good as their money so what makes them important than our party. It will definitely make me rethink my plans of going back and going to their other restaurants like Sweet Butter and Hamburger Hamlet. The food was great, especially the hash browns but I so annoyed by treatment that the food didn't matter!!

Every time I go here the food gets better! Today I ordered the corned beef and hash and WOW was it good! It looks terrible buts tastes delicious! The hash is cooked really well done and crispy, it tasted like the meat was cooked with bacon grease... I don't know how it was done but man was it good!!! It comes with scrambled egg on top and when you mix it all up, throw a little of the Mexican tabanaro on it... aghhh I'm getting hungry again! The toast comes with a delicious berry jam that is a great way to clean your mouth after all the salty, heart clogging, deliciousness of the hash! This is seriously the best hash I have ever had! I have never had it so crispy!

Came with friends from work. The service was over the top. We were treated well. The food was just not 5 star. Don't get me wrong it was good and plentiful just not great. Looking out over the marina while we ate never gets old. Good location plenty of parking.

I have been here 4 times in 4 weeks and continue to be impressed. Who knew the sister restaurant of a Cajun shrimp specialty dinner venue could serve up a great breakfast burrito AND a better than most prime rib (opt for the larger size!)? It is no Lawry's but for $22 it can't be beat. Favorites so far are those two dishes, one of which is also on the $5 breakfast menu 7a-9a Mon-Fri - guess which. The fried chicken plate (and sandwich of the same name) is not bad either. If you are craving savory shrimp flavors the pot pie is okay, but if craving that flavor I'd stick to the original next door. I've yet to try the killer shrimp breakfast burrito but it's next on the list. Did I mention you can pull up at the dock with a boat? Apparently the Killer restaurants are the only ones with this capability! Overall consistently better than I expected and I will definitely be back. Keep up the great job!

Went to Killer Shrimp and loved it~ decided I would give Killer Cafe a try. Overall, decent brunch place. The shrimp in the eggs benedict were the cheapy shrimp that you can buy for super cheap at the grocery. Also, the Breakfast shrimp burrito, was smaller than expected, just a heads up. Also note that the Cafe is only open from 9-3pm, not open for dinner. Also, I would suggest calling to make a reservation, the restaurant was packed the whole time we were there. Nice view, ambiance and service though.

Early Sunday morning we took a ride to Killer Cafe in The Marina. If you love pancakes, the blueberry ones will make your day!! Don't forget to have a mimosa made with fresh OJ or a handcrafted Bloody Mary! Great food , great service, spectacular view!! Fresh brewed coffee & killer shrimp eggs Benedict, who could ask for anything more?

You've got to kidding! 3pm on a Friday sitting outside and thought they'd have outdoor heaters. Alas no propane. Manager Billy says, we are a high volume restaurant and only get delivery once a week ! Molly was a delightful server Food had uninspired taste from a menu that could have been terrific but was mediocre

Service was strange. There were plenty of hands to help, but not much personality or care in the server we had. Food was okay, but then we didn't order the signature dish because they rated it a 7 of spiciness on a scale of 1-10. Food came out hot and timely. Drinks were a good pour. Best part? Great view of marina on he dock.

I really don't understand how this place isn't rated higher than it is. Maybe it's because it's a cafe and it's not much to look at inside, but there's a lot of outdoor patio type seating with a nice view of the marina. For a cafe, this place is great. The food is really good and the service we got may actually be be best I've ever had - including much more expensive places. I'm just sorry we discovered it on our last day here. We will be adding this to our list of places to come back to when we are in town again.

Great place to relax by the water and enjoy the sun while you eat! Ive been to the cafe and the actual resturant for dinner... Great prices, the shrimp is Ahhhhmazing and service is good. Great date nite with friends!

By far the worst prime rib French dip I have ever had. Tasted like formaldehyde. The dip was too thick and tasted like it was frozen and reheated. Across the table, my buddy had a corn beef hash that was so salty he looked like a chipmunk cheeks by the end of the meal. Aside from the food, our server seemed promising from the beginning but the graveyard shift got the best of him in the end. P.S if you like lukewarm coffee this is the place to be. Next time i am in the mood for a late night meal I will just go to McDonald's. It's a third of the price and at least I will be able to get my own refills.. Lol on a positive note the fries were okay.

My fiancé and I go here pretty regularly, at least once a month on the weekend as we are locals. The Benedict's are amazing!! I can't break myself from ordering the spinach Benedict every time!! Get your potatos extra crispy! My fiancé likes the breakfast burrito. Staff is always super friendly. Parking in lot on site.

I was hoping to be more blown away than what I was because I really like Killer Shrimp. My biggest issue was not really the food itself, because the food was good. My problem was with the so so service. Keep in mind, I didn't get a table, I sat counter side. I get that you don't really get the same type service. But I ordered killer shrimp Benedict. My order actually came out pretty quick, but I didn't realize it was my order. It sat in the window for almost 15 mins. By the time I got it was cold. I was so hungry until I just ate it without complaint because who knew when I would see my server again. I found what looked like and eyelash on the side of my plate, and was a little grossed out in the end. I am still debating on whether or not to give it another chance...

Killer Cafe is KILLER! Great diner atmosphere, locals and tourists are both comfy here. The food is brilliant, crab cakes hollandaise...amazing, spinach salad...fabulous...hash browns...OMG! The coffee is great, dark, rich, hot, perfection. View of the marina and the boats is nice, outdoor patio or large comfy booths inside. Our server, Kevin, was on top of it, so nice. The co,-owner Brett stopped by to make sure everything was good, YES, BETTER THAN GOOD! If you want good service, generous portions (understatement because you could share anything I've ordered here and both be satisfied) delicious food and great atmosphere, casual, this is your place!pinach salad...fabulous...hash browns...OMG! The coffee is great, dark, rich, hot, perfection. View of the marina and the boats is nice, outdoor patio or large comfy booths inside.

As a Venice native, long time patron of Killer Shrimp and fan of Lee Michaels I write this as constructive criticism. I have tried over and over eating at Killer Cafe hoping it will ascend to adequate. Today I cease hoping. I ordered the 12oz. prime rib. The prime rib was 40% fat at least. I had a solid piece of fat the size of a chicken breast on my plate. I asked for "jasmine rice" and got a pile of calrose rice SOAKED in butter. I don't eat dairy. Awesome. And last I asked for sauteed veggies instead if cream spinach. Got spinach. They offered to take the spinach off and put veggies on. In the process they recooked my prime rib so that it was now well done. And yes I got sauteed squash. Swimming in oil. My wife ordered the spinach salad with grilled chicken. Salad was drenched in dressing. Chicken was dry and hard like jerky. I'm bummed. I ate at Killer Shrimp weekly when it was on Washington. My family and I were sad when they closed and overjoyed when reopened. Even happier when the long closed Edie's became K Cafe. Just bummed. I don't think the vision is there that return business is important as overall numbers and foot traffic. I wish it were what I hoped for. I am just let down over and over again. I will not make this mistake again. goodbye Killer Shrimp and Killer Cafe. That wonderful relationship we had years ago just isn't there anymore and I work too hard for my money than to pay you for that.

If you want amazing shrimp at a fair price, DONT GO HERE! I don't think I've ever been this disappointed in a restaurant. This of course is the "Killer Cafe" next door to "Killer Shrimp" and also attached to it. Let me cut the crap and break it down for you.... We sat outside on the patio, which was the best thing about this whole meal. It would've been more relaxing if there wasn't a busboy moving all the umbrellas out of the way and screeching them across the floor like nails on a chalkboard! He did this over and over and over very very loud! My boyfriend and I ordered the "killer shrimp" which is obviously their signature dish, a deep fried avocado appetizer and my daughter had the buttermilk fried chicken and a banana smoothie. First problem, it took 20 minutes for her to get her banana smoothie and no food had even arrived. It was not packed though I admit it was next-door at their original restaurant which was why we chose the cafe, told us next-door but the food came out of the same kitchen and was just as good. The fried avocado appetizer finally arrived, it was mushy but maybe it was supposed to be, I didn't really care for it. 10 minutes later, shrimp finally came in a bowl of watery broth that looked like brown swamp water, and tasted much the same. It was overwhelmed by the seasoning of Rosemary which I couldn't get out of my mouth for the rest of the day! I don't understand the watery broth at all, it was not what I expected, it was like eating shrimp soup. The shrimp was okay but it was not properly cleaned as they left the vein in on one side. It did have that crispy crunch you expect from fresh shrimp but the broth ruined it for me. Finally the buttermilk chicken. What can I say? Actually my daughter said it best when she said "I guess you should never order chicken from seafood place" and she's 11!! I tasted her chicken or at least I tried to, but there was no taste to it! It was bland flavorless. I don't think I've ever had fried chicken with less flavor I didn't know it was even possible to do this. We salted the crap out of it but there was no recovering from this mess. It was also overdone and very dry and hard on the ends. We skipped any kind of dessert because we didn't want to be disappointed any further. The other thing that made this mail less then a "treat" was the service, everything took a long time to get there and every time somebody brought something, which was not our waitress we couldn't find her, they never cleared a single plate from our small table. It was hard to even get them to stop they were such in a hurry, we asked the busboy for refills on her drinks which we had not gotten but the one time when asked, and when he brought them back we stopped him to take a couple plates up our table. He did so in such a hurry but not all of the dirty plates just want to be pointed to. And what was the cherry on the cake of this meal you ask? Well maybe you didn't ask but let me tell you this meal cost us just under $100,00. I should've sent some of the food back I admit, and maybe I should not have tipped our waitress who I never saw again after she delivered the banana shake which was actually the one delicious thing that we had. That put the bill over $100 the worst money I think I've ever spent on food in my entire existence. I will never go here again I would meet her for free. If you do go here good luck to you.

They make a killer bloody mary, pun intended! Been here a handful of times. Love the ambiance, try to sit outside if you can so you are overlooking the Marina. Make sure you get there early on a Sunday, it fills up quick. Only knock on stars is two different times they forgot our order of toast. As for dishes: The Steak and eggs breakfast is a favorite, as well as the Huevos Rancheros. My personal favorite is the Killer Shrimp Omelet. You still get that tasty flavor and spice from the Killer Shrimp Restaurant next door but the added bonus of making it a breakfast item with red pepper and caramelized onions. I also enjoy the corned beef hash and eggs. Least favorite menu item has been the Surfer Breakfast. Whatever menu item you get, be sure you don't miss out on the Hashbrowns, they are crispy and plentiful! There is a huge lot with plenty of parking which makes this a drama-free spot to visit! On weekdays, they have a breakfast special for $5 from 7:00-9:00 a.m. Be sure to check in on Yelp for a free cup of coffee, you're welcome ;)

I came here on my birthday and had a wonderful breakfast! The waitress could not have been more attentive and friendly. I love the patio - it is on the water and nice and sunny. The out side patio seems like it could be my own backyard if I lived on the Marina - I just enjoy it so much there. The food is really crazy good. Some of the best and most creative breakfast entree's I have seen. My husband goes bananas for the corned beef hash and the huevos rancheros is out of this world. The coffee is pretty good as well as the champagne! :)

We love Killer Shrimp, so were interested in trying out the Killer Cafe for breakfast one day. We live in Burbank, but one morning found ourselves not far from the Cafe, after dropping someone at LAX at 7am. There were only 2-3 other customers there, and were waited on promptly, and pleasantly. We had to ask twice for the back doors to be closed, as there was quite a cold breeze that early. I ordered my usual breakfast - 2 poached eggs, 2 pancakes and decaf coffee. COFFEE - delicious, but lukewarm EGGS - it's common to put a drop of vinegar into the boiling water while poaching eggs, but these tasted like they were POACHED in vinegar. Again, not very hot. PANCAKES - smallish, rubbery, and barely warm. They don't offer sugar-free syrup, which seems to be widely available everywhere else, except small-town diners. BISCUITS - we always like to try "homemade biscuits" at new places. These were tiny, dry and barely warm. The soft butter didn't melt on them. Good raspberry jam, but major seeds! My husband's breakfast, country fried steak was fine. They offer a special hash brown "cake", but it just tasted like undercooked hash browns in the center. All in all, we will not be back. Very disappointing food, for way too much money. My husband and I love to eat breakfast out every weekend, so we've been to many different diners and restaurants over the years, and I think we know good food, and this wasn't it.

Besides the food being consistently bad, the service is horrific. I live next door so the only reason I eat this so-called cafe food once in a while is out of convenience. But lately I've found that the convenience isn't even there. Several times in the past few weeks I've called their number and no one answers - just rings for 5 or so minutes. Then today I thought I'd try calling their next door Killer Shrimp location to see if I could get through there and find out if they had a new number. The girl says "oh they must just be busy" refuses to help in any way even though they have a shared kitchen and could easily pass on an order or my phone number to be called back. And says "yeah its a Sunday so you might not get through but you can keep trying to call". Anyhow - Killer Shrimp is killing their customers with terribad service. Can't believe people go here - must be the cheap prices.

Great location next to the marina. A laid back diner atmosphere with a Louisiana/ fresh California twist on all the breakfast classics. Casual atmosphere with an outdoor deck area great for kids, families or a group. The local police just grabbed a booth for their lunch break so you know it must be good!

I came in here for lunch for take out - it's okay. I got the cobb salad and it was decent - I'd suggest getting the blue cheese dressing instead of the house balsamic. The bacon was overcooked and hard to eat so I'd also recommend getting that taken off. In terms of service, it was pretty of slow. I waited for about 20 minutes.

This place needs to get it together. There host was running around and had no clue where to seat people so there were a ton of seats. So we decided to to sit at the bar... Need less to say the kitchen was a mess too... We should have went to Cheesecake Factory needless to say. Will not return here

Our party of 6 went to have breakfast at 10 am. We were seated quickly outside & greeter was nice. We ordered 3 banana muffins for the table which were awesome. I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict and substituted the hash browns for fruit with no charge. They were perfect in my view, so the right size, all ingredients in moderation and balanced. Everybody else was happy too, hash browns got a shout out! If you check in you get a free coffee which added to the fun. Marina view was nice, overall great experience.

  • Christine D.

I would give this place 4 stars just for the hashbrowns alone - you get this brick of a hashbrown fried crisp to perfect on the top and bottom with probably enough butter to give you a heart attack if you actually knew how much was in there. The shrimp and grits were OK as long as you mixed all the sauce up with the shrimp and grits...of course it would be bland without because hello they are grits! The shrimp is also small and tiny - I guess I had expected the classic killer shrimp. View is nice of the harbor as well. If you're debating though between this place and Killer Shrimp, the classic killer shrimp beats this place hands down!

We went on Sunday around 1:30 pm with a party of 23. We knew that we would have to sit at more then one table. And we were ok with that. However the host was advising us that we might want to try other restaurants in the area because they close at 3:00pm!!!! Really are you refusing service????? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She was just so rude and condescending! "She was even more then happy to get her Manager!" So $600.00 later I am Happy to say we had a awesome waitress, great food and out by 3:30pm the restaurant still had a ton of people eating. They really need to get rid of the host. She's bad for business

We have been to Killer Cafe quite a few times. Today we had a bad experience. Got a table right away and since it was a little after 1 PM, the place was starting to empty out. There seemed to be no reason why we waited almost 45 minutes for our food! To top it off my wife's Eggs Benedict were cold! Our waitress said she talked to the manager and we were going to get a discount for our bad service. When I got the bill we were discounted $2.40. Are you kidding me! Wow, thanks! Not sure if it was the kitchen being a mess or just our server being a dingbat. Maybe a combination of the two. Anyway its going to be awhile before we are going back. Come to think of it we recently attended a private function in their upstairs hall (Killer Shrimp) and during cocktails it literally took 20 minutes waiting in a line to get a drink. They didn't even have martini glasses and poured them in wine glasses. When I got the bill for one martini and two beers there was a $4.20 cents service charge! A lot of people ordered steak, at the event, and when taking the order we were asked "how would you like it cooked." When the food was served they just put down whatever, because they were all cooked the same. WTF! I have seen Killer Shrimp start out on Washington and Ocean, and have been there many times, as well as the Taco place they started downstairs (and also gone). I long for those days of enjoying a bowl of the Original, peeling those big shrimp, and sopping up the gravy with a basket of french bread. I guess bigger isn't always better. I am not sure who is managing either Killer Shrimp or Killer Cafe, but they are not doing a very good job. As Donald Trump would say, "You're Fired!"

If you were to come here for anything...come here for their hashbrowns. Yeah it may sound funny, but DAMN THATS SOME GOOD ASS HASHBROWNS. The shrimp breakfast burrito was bland but healthy and the bloody mary's were above average but the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars was because of the service. He was either SLOW or HUNGOVER, but if I put my money on it, he was hungover. How slow can you get taking an order esp when we had to repeat our order 3 x each. There were 4 in our party. There were missing items and some of our plates came out wrong. Oh well....THOSE WERE STILL GOOD ASS HASHBROWNS

My friend and I came here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:00pm. There were about 3 other parties already seated. We were told to seat ourselves on outside patio. It took awhile for the waitress to get us a menu. When she brought us the menu, she notified us that they don't have any of the first section of the menu available. And half of the entree section will be available after 3pm. (They close at 3pm) After we ordered from the limited menu, we waited for a very long time to get our food. When we finally got our food, we asked the server for extra plates so that we can share the food, it never came. We ordered the Rubin dip sandwich, the sliced meat was very fatty. The Cobb salad, looked colorful, but the balsamic dressing was a not appealing. Since the food was not good, it was hard to eat most of it, so we were waiting for the waitress to come by for the check. She was so inattentive, she would walk by, but not look over at us. Overall, if you have time to kill, this is the place to do that.

One of the worst dining experiences my guest and I ever had. Our server, "Kevin", definitely should not be in customer service. Once our food arrived, my guest informed Kevin that it was not what she had ordered. He told her that she was mistaken! He actually said, "You are wrong, that is what you ordered." Um, I think we know what food we wanted to eat! He didn't even offer to take the food back. He was so rude to us, it felt like he must have mistaken us for someone who wronged him in some outrageous fashion. What should have been a pleasant afternoon was ruined by truly atrocious service. There are so many places to eat around this area, there is absolutely no reason to come back to Killer Cafe and deal with someone like Kevin.

My daughter and I used a groupon here for breakfast and we will definitely be back. we both were really happy with the quality of the food and the portions. plus it's really nice to sit on the patio with the harbor view. My favorite part of breakfast was the hash browns...actually it's the reason why I bought the groupon, the picture looked really good and they didn't disappoint. The ones they serve here are nice and crispy on the outside and softer on the Inside with a little bit of a buttery flavor.

Killer Cafe used to be a diner. They have a lot of seating and a nice outdoor patio. The food however is not nearly as good at Killer Shrimp (next door) Dunno if they share a kitchen, but it seems unlikely. It was just OK if you ask me.

I just found this place, after being a long time lover of the infamous Killer Shrimp. I have to say, I am IN LOVE. Of course I was tempted to try the Killer Shrimp Benedict, but instead went with the Crab Cake Benedict. OMG. SO tasty. The quaint little restaurant has a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the marina, the waitstaff was very nice and accommodating, and the manager took time to check on us during our meal. Other reviewers have complaints about the staff or wait times, but our experience was excellent. No complaints. Can't wait to go back. Even if just for the hash browns. YUMMMM to max.

I sent back the Shrimp and Grits and got the Salmon Benedict. Worst part: The Shrimp and Grits were sooo awful! Cold and overcooked. They MUST stop selling the tiny killer shrimp on this side. Best parts: The view of the harbor and paserbys. The service was chill and our server was super great. The smoked salmon eggs benedict was really tasty...except one of the english muffins wasn't toasted or buttered. That was kind of weird. It just fell apart and crumbled. But everything else about the dish was great. Over all, it was ok. I would return for another item. It wasn't perfect or overpriced.

I would give this place one star but the restaurant was clean, well decorated, and had a great atmosphere. That's about the only positive thing I have to say about it. I'll begin my negative part by starting off with the food because it's the most important component of a restaurant. I ordered the breakfast shrimp burrito with home style fries. Apparently I was unaware of what home fries actually were (red skin potatoes). So when I asked about my French fries the waitress gave me an attitude about it. She went on to explain what home style fries were and offered to bring out fries, but at that point I was so taken back by her frustration that I refused the french fries. I will say the red skin potatoes were pretty good. Now on to the breakfast burrito - bland. I could have made the exact same thing at home and it would have been way better because I would have added salt and pepper to the eggs while I cooked them. The burrito came with salsa on the side that had no flavor either. I started adding salt and pepper to each bite that's how bad it was. Baja Fish Tacos has an awesome shrimp burrito for $3 less. My wife ordered the omelet and asked for jalapeño's instead of Bell peppers, guess what she got? On top of that the omelet was also bland. I ordered a $5 latte that should have been $3 because 60% of it was froth. The service was terrible. I had to ask another waitress for water because we barely saw ours. And when the food came out I had to ask for utensils. In addition we waited over 20 minutes to get our food. I really had high hopes for this place but unfortunately my wife and I will probably avoid Killer Cafe from now on.

This place was recommended to us by the info centre, they have a great location and easy parking so we thought why not? The place has a really cool new age diner atmosphere and the service was excellent. We got free coffee thanks to yelp and ordered two breakfast dishes, the surfer breakfast was average due to the bland beef paty but the breakfast burrito was delicious, full of flavor so 5 stars for that. The hash browns were something else, I loved the crisp top and bottom. I'd go back if I lived here for sure, it's a great cafe!

Came in for breakfast at 9:15 on a Wednesday with a party of 5. We were told to seat ourselves. Waited 15 minutes for our menus from a buss boy, was not acknowledged once by either waiter or waitress on duty. Walked out. Horrible experience. I understand restaurants get busy, this was unacceptable. The petite curly hair waitress was standing there having conversations with people, when there were customers clearly waiting. She was also violating health code with her hair not tied up. Also the other waiter, a male with long hair was very slow only attending Togo orders, with a full restaurant. No help at all!

This place is a mix of good and not so good, but overall A-OK. It was 3 of us, him, me and the 9 year old. We were seated right away, and our drink order was taken rather quickly. However, we waited a really long time for our waiter to come back and take our food order - maybe 10-15 minutes. Once he took our order though, the food came out very quickly, which was a nice surprise. There was no kids menu, so our daughter ordered the same as me - two eggs, bacon and potatoes. I got home fries and she got hash browns. BF got oatmeal and chicken apple sausage. I love good home fries, and these looked like the real deal, with onions and red bell pepper. Even with that, they were a little bland! They needed some kind of seasoning, so salt it was. I'm not usually crazy about hash browns, but theirs were great. A crispy layer, soft potatoes in the middle, followed by another crispy layer. The bacon was excellent. The sausage was a little too apple-ey. Service was spotty. BF's ice tea got refilled automatically but I had to flag down our waiter for more coffee. My biggest complaint though, was the price. For the three of us, meals and beverages and tip was $50. If we come back, I think it will be for their weekday breakfast specials, which are at the other end of the spectrum - beyond reasonable.

If you're here, you probably already know, but check in and get free coffee! Had the corned beef hash and it was great. Get here early - there might be a wait

I love this little cafe. They're dog-friendly on the patio. They make a killer Bloody Mary, cook my bacon to crispy perfection and their hash browns remind me of my Nana's. Really...what else do you need from a breakfast spot.

Went to explore a new breakfast spot with Hubby. Not impressed, I think what I had was just not that good, though it is nice and comfy inside. He had a Killer shrimp omelet, which was not all bad. I had a New York Strip Steak, which honestly........I know better than to order steak from someplace other than a fabulous steak house. So, my bad on that. My overcooked steak was accompanied by home fried potatoes, and eggs scrambled with cheese. Potatoes...........uh uh, they were dry and flavorless. My eggs were fine because I asked for avocado and salsa. I must say in perusing the menu, their benedicts looked like they might be pretty flavorful, but I would have to go back to try them, and at this point.......that doesn't look like it's going to be happening anytime soon. Our server was attentive. Ultimately, I would say check it out for your self. Maybe they are better at lunch than breakfast.

The food is great here. Came to try it out with a deal I found online. I followed suit and tried the crab cake eggs benedict. This dish absolutely exceeded my expectations! Was by far the best benedict Ive ever had in life truly and honestly. Rich and decadent...soooo delicious. Actually worth the drive out to the water. Knowledgeable staff...Hashbrowns amazing as well. Gorgeous calming location...perfect for a sunny morning out.

Best view and outdoor seating. Best service every single time. Great for breakfast, killer oatmeal and the breakfast sandwich is the best. I am a regular here because every time I try a different place for breakfast, I always come back to this place because it tops the rest.

Bring a sweater, the patio is freezing! OMG! Huge portions of food that is just absolutely delicious. The service was very, very, slow on a Saturday morning and there were a few flies from the Marina that drifted indoors. Other than that, once the food was served the portions were huge and I could not finish my food. It was very, very, good. I had the breakfast burrito, and my daughter had the french toast with strawberries. We also shared a half melon. The coffee was warm, not hot, my daughter had a mint tea and there were honey packets on the table which was nice. Overall, because of the delicious food, we will go back for sure.

Most people may not realize that Killer Cafe belongs to Killer Shrimp next door, and Killer Shrimp is famous for, well, shrimp. So many of the reviewers below look like they haven't tried the shrimp items. The shrimp omelet, shrimp burrito, and shrimp omelet are amazing. Add the hash browns and salsa served with these items, and it is a wonderfully unique YUMMY breakfast. I give them a four because the service is ALWAYS uneven, and a little slow. Getting a refill or the check can be a chore, and the only reason I come back is because I use the Groupon, so getting the discount on great food makes me feel better that I can tolerate the negative parts of my dining experience.

Living in the neighborhood, I thought this Cafe would be t good to try. Boy was I wrong. I had the French dip with fries and my companion ordered biscuits and gravy and a bowl of "prison chili". Water was automatically brought which I thought was a nice touch but that's where the nice ended. Well refills were far and few between and when my coke was refilled it magically became diet coke. The biscuits were more like a hockey puck. Our food was ready for bit while it sat in the window as our server Brandi was talking to other coworkers and what appeared to be regulars of the restaurant not really caring about her tables. We asked for our check and after about 10-15 minutes of watching Brandi talk to other guests and go no where near a computer to print our check, I got up and gave her the credit card so she can close out the check. While we were waiting another table got up and asked when her for would be ready and she told them, "when it's done cooking it will be out". The same regulars had moved to the table next to us and while Brandi had closed our check she made yet another stop to the regulars, check in hand, which by that time made it 18 minutes to close the check. I have been in the restaurant business for 16+ years and have been a host, server, bartender and manager and was so shocked to see such horrible service. If the food runner and busser were severs it would have been a GIGANTIC difference. Maybe daytime servers are better.

Found a Groupon for this establishment and thought that it would be a nice option for a weekday brunch. I thought going late on a Monday towards noon it would be nice and empty. I was so wrong haha! Service was a bit slow. Took a few moments to obtain a menu but the friendliness and hospitality throughout the service made up for it. I ordered the french toast, chicken sausage, hash browns, and a soft drink. In the calorie department it's a huge issue, however I thought I'd use it it way before the second to last day that the Groupon was due to expire with another person but got bailed on. Food came out rather quickly. The french toast was really thick and it could have used another drop of syrup. Other than that I didn't really have an issue with Killer Cafe, except the flies. Could do without them. I'd return, maybe with another person provided they don't bail on me at the last minute again.

This place is really good. I was in the area because my dad and I came out to California for winter break. We went there for breakfast almost every day and it was always delicious!!! I had the 5 dollar special and with scrambled eggs and bacon and buttermilk pancakes, that was one exceptional breakfast. I would totally recommend this place!

Second time here on 8/24/14. While visiting my son, again, we had breakfast at Killer Cafe as it had been recommended by the Ritz Carlton and had a really great view of the Marina. Not only was the food fantastic but the service provided by our server Molly was wonderful. After eating everything on my plate I moved onto my son's hash browns. Yum!

Killer Cafe is kind of a misfit, but a lovely one. We came because of Groupon and liked their breakfasts so much, we've kept coming back. Service is very good and quite friendly. The food is just excellent, well prepared and fresh tasting. (Although I'd like to see their hash browns made with butter instead of oil... you can taste the difference.) Reason I say it's a misfit is because of the atmosphere. Killer Cafe has a bit of an identity crisis. Is it supposed to look like a boat? It's got some kind of diner/boat thing going on and it doesn't quite mesh. The waterfront location and open feel do make up for it though. Just wish they'd keep that back door closed on cold mornings. Get here early or plan on waiting. That Groupon promo worked and now that everyone's realized breakfast is good here, it does get packed.

Amazing! My husband and I have been regulars for quite some time. The food is mouth watering! We have tried half the menu. They have something for everyone! My favorite is Shrimp Benedict. My husband's favorite is the Shrimp Omlette. I also recommend the Blueberry Pancakes. Oh! I can't forget the Bloody Mary! Their excellent! The staff is friendly and very attentive to all your needs. The patio is DOG Friendly! You must try it!

My boyfriend and I decided to come back here on 2/17/13 after our last experience was awesome but it wasn't nearly as great as our first time there. We waited ALMOST AN HOUR for our food and no we didn't order anything that would have taken that long. A chicken sandwich and some egg whites certainly do not take even half that time. We'll be going back but only since we have one groupon left. Totally disappointed this time around.

Tried Killer Cafe for the first time today and would have to say, Yay, I'm a fan. It wasn't too busy, the service was good (helped that our waitress was very cute) and food was tasty. I went with 3 Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes which were fluffy, light and a very good size. Had they been any bigger it would've been too much. My brother had eggs, potatoes, apple wood chicken sausage and wheat toast. His serving was large but he said it all tasted good with the right seasonings. Even the coffee (which is normally below average at restaurants) had a good full body flavor. I liked the boldness to it which is better than drinking colored hot water. The prices were fair and service staff was good to come around, check on the meal and do refills when needed. They could have even skipped a couple refill attempts and still shown good service. All and all I would say that I will return for another breakfast here.

I was staying in Marina Del Rey on a friends Yacht, I have loved Killer Shrimp for 20 years, myself,my friends and my grand kids decided to try Killer Cafe next door. I was surprised at the serving size, they were all huge, I could not finish mine though I tried, the home fries with crispy red bell peppers and onions were so good, the rest of my food was good too, I want to try the Killer Shromp over grits next time, the kids loved it

Overall, this place is highly overpriced for what you get (even in the Marina). Although though the food quality is good, it's nothing special. I went with a friend for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place wasn't very busy at 8am so there was no wait. The tables are nice and big (each booth seats about 6 - 8 people) and there's also a bar you can sit at as well as an outdoor patio with a great view of the marina. We were sat right away and the service overall was really good, but then again, the place wasn't that busy. We both ordered the build your own omelets with fruit. The fruit was a fruit salad with melons, very fresh, good portion size. I had the carmelized onion, jack cheese, and bacon omelet. It was good, but nothing special. When the bill came, we noticed they charged us an extra dollar because my friend had apple chicken sausage in her omelet. Now, some of the items do have an additional charge listed after them but apple chicken sausage didn't, so it was a bit of a surprise. I didn't complain, I just paid the extra dollar. Coffee was $3 per cup which is a bit pricey in my opinion, and overall, two cups of coffee, and two omelets with fruit cost us $35 with tip ($5 tip/$30 for the meal). For that price, we could have gone to 26 Beach or one of the other many breakfast places in the marina and gotten something with a little more pizazz that's just as good or better.

After reading very mixed reviews I decided to try Killer Cafe because I got a groupon for 50% off, so I thought "why not". Even at half off, it wasn't worth the trip. I ordered the Lobster Bisque (to start) and the turkey club. After about 25 minutes, I asked a waitress (not mine-she had disappeared) if she could check on my soup. The next minute, out comes MY waitress with the sandwich and said the soup would be out shortly. I told her I wanted the soup before the sandwich and she replied "oh, I thought you wanted them together and besides, it's made when you order, not ahead of time." I relented and she brought the soup....a big old bowl filled to the brim with some murky looking substance with big chunks of lobster. It smelled very fishy, and after taking one spoonful, I knew I would be sick if I took another. The sandwich was okay but the bread was weird, It was soft but had grill marks and tasted burnt. At the end, she saw the full bowl of soup but didn't even ask how it was or if I wanted it to go (I didn't) If I ever gave this place another try (doubtful) I would stick to breakfast items. Lastly, the tables outside seem dirty and stained, they really should splurge on table cloths.

We tried Killer Cafe when it first opened. We liked the food and the service at Killer Shrimp, so were excited to try their new cafe. When we arrived, we waited at the front for a hostess to seat us. After a few moments, someone broke away from a conversation by a group of employees to come and seat us. Not friendly at all, she took us to our table. There we sat a while waiting to get coffee and water- after someone finally came by, we got our very mediocre coffee. When our food arrived, the disappointment continued. The service was terrible, though everyone in the restaurant came to the next table to talk and make sure they got everything they needed. We thought maybe since they just opened, they were working out the kinks. We went to Killer Cafe this morning to give it another try. Same waiting at the front for a very rude hostess. Took us to our seats and threw down the menus. We waited for service and the server came to the table with an attitude, and asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her we needed to decide a little longer. That is when we decided to leave. I did notice most servers hanging around certain tables, and not around other tables. Seem if you are a "local friend", you will get service. Otherwise you are just in the way. There are too many other good breakfast places in the Marina to waste your time going here.

I went here for a Saturday brunch with friends last weekend and we had a great time! We made reservations by accident next door (Killer Shrimp) and they were kind enough to transfer it over. I ordered the eggs benedict (as did everyone in my party except for one who ordered it with the crab cake). Everyone loved the dishes and the hash browns are delish! Crispy outsides with soft centers. I think next time I would order the hollandaise on the side as it is a bit more than I like...this way I can just add a bit as a friend of mine did. If you can manage to snag a patio table on a beautiful day, then it is just perfect. It was a bit of a wait and we were all hungry so we didn't wait but it looked gorgeous. I definitely recommend this place!

This restaurant was chosen during a morning stroll around Venice Beach in summer of 2012. My girlfriend and I were craving breakfast foods, so we chose this place since it was fairly close by. I ordered the "Chicken-Fried Steak and Eggs", and my girlfriend ordered the "Killer Shrimp Omelet". During the time that we ate there, it wasn't busy at all. Therefore, one would think that the food would be cooked slightly better since there's no rush. My plate was descent. I ordered my two eggs sunny side-up, they were cooked just right. The portion of hash browns served was a good amount. It could have used a tad bit more improvement as far as taste and the way it was cooked. The top and bottom of my hash browns were brown to a crisp, but the inside was just straight-out bland and soft. Based on how it looked and tasted, it can easily be assumed that the chef had laid out the shredded potatoes on the griddle. Then once it started to brown at the bottom, he/she simply turned one half of the hash browns over the other half and served it on the plate. To compensate for its lack of taste, i had to sprinkle lots of pepper, a little salt, and a few drops of ketchup. The chicken fried steak was a lot better. It somewhat made up for the tasteless order of hash browns. The chicken fried steak was very tender, the batter was crunchy, not too oily/greasy, and was seasoned just right. The sausage gravy on top of the chicken fried steak complimented each other quite well. My girlfriend was pretty much satisfied with her order with the exception of her hash browns. Her hash browns were exactly the same as mine, considering the fact that it was most likely cooked at the same time as one batch. Service was great, the staff was very friendly. Our waiter constantly checked on our table to see if anything was needed. Our water glasses and coffee cups were always refilled immediately. Definitely nothing to complain about. We chose to eat in the outdoor patio. The view of the marina was very nice. While waiting for the food to arrive, it gives you a sense of relaxation. If you're out on a date or just hanging out with friends, it's a great place to sit and take in the simple beauty of the area. Just avoid looking at the million dollar yachts, cause then you'll begin to question your own success. LoL. Just kidding. Overall, I would probably come back and try out other items on the menu. Only if I'm within the vicinity and craving average quality breakfast foods. For those who have not yet been to Killer Cafe, be sure to check the menu online on their website. It'll allow you to see what items they have. Then from there, you can determine whether they meet your breakfast requirements.

Wanted to have brunch before we took our kid back to LMU. Saw Killer Cafe and were glad we did. I hate breakfast food so I'm always looking for alternatives. The granola with greek yogurt and fresh fruit was perfect. My son and husband also enjoyed their selections (shrimp benedict and pancakes and eggs). My son's burger wasn't cooked like he requested was the only negative. The service was great. Never had to ask to have our water refilled or fresh coffee. We didn't have to wait that long given it was Sunday at about 11:30 am. We even got a table outside next to the water. Absolutely lovely. We will be back again.

My husband and I went yesterday for Sunday brunch. We had been there before - the experience wasn't great, wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. The chance to be in the Marina on such a perfect California winter day ( about 70 degrees) we thought to give them another try. We placed our order: Corned Beef Hash for my husband and eggs, bacon, home fries and toast for me. Sitting waiting for our food I people watched and this is what I saw: waitress/"supervisor" Amy spending a great deal of time rubbing on one of the customer's dog (other than service dogs being allowed in a restaurant -ugh!-whole other story for another time). Amy it appeared is quite the dog lover, she had 'Rover' just a wagging his tail as she rubbed him, rubbed him and rubbed him some more. Now for my issue with this: when she walked away I watched and never saw her wash her hand (or do anything that might suggest she was washing her hands). I did see her though go straight over the to screen that used for ordering and bills and use that. I saw her 'high five' one of her fellow workers who than walked away from her and immediately get the coffee pot to walk the floor offering refills. Then Amy went a little out of my sight to very shortly fully reappear with a serving tray as she happily went about her job. Disgusting!! As for the food. My husband said the Corned beef hash was quite tasty (secret sauce? lol). My food - I was totally turned off by Amy's behavior and couldn't get past that even though she was not my server. It caused me to wonder was her behavior indicative of the staff/culture at the Killer Cafe.

Food is absolutely terrible, service is sub par. I feel its incredibly hard to f up breakfast. This place makes it look easy. Their place next door (killer shrimp) is not completely bad. Just stay away from the shrimp. The rest is not so bad. To sum up the cafe in one word... PUKE

The place was very neat and clean and the parking was free. The food was pretty good (i ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs) but the cfs lacked any seasoning or flavor at all. The reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the service. I walked in and sat at the counter and nobody paid any attention for at least 5 min. The server was having a conversation with the other staff. She finally got around to my order and didn't write it down. She forgot my toast. A bus boy delivered my food and the sever never came back for the entire meal (she's the younger red hair girl if you get her). I finished and then wanted the check but I couldn't get her attention. I had to ask the bus boy but he blew me off too. I finally waved her down and she printed out my check and then never came back to take my card. I had to wave her down again. She kept apologizing for forgetting me like 3 times. They only person that came to check on me was the hostess (asian lady) and she was very nice. She even asked if I would like to change the tv channel. I've had the same experience with the restaurant side too. Something is wrong with the management....

Love this location, was so happy when Killer Shrimp took it over and re opened it. Great patio in the back and nice and bright in the front with booths and lots of counter seating. (If you remember thr movie "Enough" with Jennifer Lopez and Billy Campbell, this is the cafe where it was filmed.) Unfortunately, the rest leaves a lot to be desired. Have been there twice now on a Sunday. First time ordered the corn beef hash. Corn beef was very rubbery and the portion was much smaller than you would expect when ordering corn beef hash. (And for the price) My girlfriend had the shrimp omelet and was disappointed. Shrimp was also rubbery which I guess was OK since there was hardly any shrimp in the omelet. Second time, (had to try again since I love the location) Arrive at 11:45, was seated at the patio by 12:00, (expected, they're busy) server arrived about 5 minutes later, (again, busy) and took drink and meal order at the same time. Received our drinks, Mexican Coke and Iced tea. No glass or ice with the coke, the tea came in a small glass with a whole two cubes of ice. After waiting 30 minutes for our food, the server came by with the check and told us "no rush". (we had not yet received our food) 10 minutes later the food arrived.(not by our server) I asked for a refill on the tea, nothing. I had sausage and eggs over easy which was very good, great hash browns. I also ordered the "Brioche" french toast, this sucked. $8.00 for basicly grilled white bread with powdered sugar on top. It wasn't dipped in the batter like french toast normally is and was very dry. My girlfreind ordered the BTLA which is a BLT with avacodo. It came with no bacon. It was returned after another 10 minute wait with a whopping 2 slices of bacon. (To the servers credit, there was no charge for this) Waited another 5 minutes for the check and after I paid it and was leaving, a busboy came by and asked if I would like some more iced tea. It was getting comedic at this point. Overall, I think this place has a management problem and is inexperienced in proper food service protocol. They are definitely under staffed and noticed much confusion amongst the help. (Pretty Asian hostess seemed to be the only one on the ball and you could see her frustration. Hopefully managment will get their s--t together sometime in the near future. I'm not going to give up yet!

the bus boy wiped the table with a dirty towel that smelled so badly, the table stank. I ordered 2 eggs, toast, hash browns. when I got my order the underside of the eggs were black. they had been cooked on a dirty grill. I didn't eat them and picked at the hash browns which were probably made in the wee hours of the morning. It was late afternoon & they were hard, but at least warm. No toast with my order. I asked for the toast since I wasn't going to be eating the nasty eggs. I got some warmed bread, not completely toasted. they were all about closing (3pm) and couldn't be bothered to toast the bread. I asked my waitress to let the manager know about the eggs ( I don't think she did) and that I would not be coming back (I don't think she cared.) Too bad. The Marina could use a good breakfast place like this one with the large menu. But I wouldn't go back there again ever. disappointing.

I am so disappointed in Killer Shrimp. A restaurant I have been going too since the 90tys. Today I took my children and my sister to the killer Shrimp, we were all excited. My cousin gave me a coupon for 20% off, yeah 20% off. At the top of the Coupon it states Killer Shrimp Restaurant and Bar at the bottom is the coupon Killer Cafe 20% off your next visit to killer Cafe Restaurant and Bar. Terms and conditions state 20% off food and beverages, special events, delivery and retail purchases are exempt dine in only. I think we are are covered. I present the coupon to the waitress and a manager comes back and says of this is not for Killer Shrimp the restaurant and bar this is for Killer Cafe. Oh Killer Cafe not aware oh is is next door. I state but coupon states Killer Cafe Restaurant and Bar. He states Killer Cafe has a restaurant and a bar and so does Killer Shrimp. Long story short misleading advertising. I have been going here for years and I am so disappointed. I asked them to honor the coupon and they would not. There are many restaurants to chose from today I guess they lose a customer over $18.00 and they get a bad review for misleading advertising. If you have this coupon beware it is a lead on and they do not honor it Killer Shrimp the restaurant and bar only Killer Cafe. The funny thing is it states exclude happy hour, Killer Cafe is only open form 6AM until 2PM. I wonder when their happy hour is?

This is my favorite breakfast spot! I would give them 5 stars if they were not over priced. If you are planning on Sunday brunch with mimosa's this may not be the place for you unless a $10 two sip mimosa is ok. The staff are friendly and attentive. The atmosphere on the deck is excellent, inside is nothing special. My favorite breakfast order is the original eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce is spectacular and hash browns are cooked to perfection!

The food here was not tasteful at all. My family and I went there yesterday for brunch and was very disappointed. Between the four of us we had: - meatloaf (only seasoning was pepper), - turkey burger (no flavor at all), - French fries (good), - Caesar salad (ok, but better than our other dishes), - chicken fried steak (tough and flavorless with watery gravy) - strawberry smoothie (bitter and unsweetened). I'm not sure why this place was rated higher than Cafe Bunta because the food was just not good at all. For the price of the food they need to do a lot better. While the fries and Caesar salad were ok they did not makeup for the lack of taste of the main dishes.

The food at this restaurant is some of the worst I have ever had. The first time I went I had breakfast: some omelet with hash brown which tasted like someone shred some potatoes and slapped it on my plate without putting it on the grill. The hash brown was mushy and tasteless. The service was horrible. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out. And the waitress was not even apologetic. Oh, I couldn't use my groupon because it was the weekend, and didn't make a reservation: too many rules... Second time I went to use up my groupon. I made a reservation this time. I ordered grilled mahi mahi, which was exceptionally dry and tasted like it was a month old. There was no seasoning on the fish, not even a speck of salt or pepper or a drip of oil. On top of that, there were all kinds of charred gunk from the grill that was stuck to the fish-- Making it taste bitter. The rice that came with it tasted old and stale. I could not even eat the fish or the rice. I am overwhelmingly disgusted that the cook had the audacity to serve that kind of horrible food to humans. Who does he think the customers are-- a bunch of idiots without taste buds? You can't even get me to go back there to eat for free!

Terrible service, okay food. The server was absolutely rude. The seating here is an issue. They told us at first to seat ourselves and when we did they asked if there was a different table we prefer. We went outside and they took 15 mins just to clean our table. This wasn't a big deal but when our server finally arrived he was nothing but an ignorant piece of you know what. Any question we would ask him regarding the menu, we got nothing but attitude and a weird look like we just asked the dumbest question in the world. This place is more for tourists staying in the area. I really don't think the restaurant is there to have returning customers. They want you to come in and leave. I will definitley not be returning here. Location is great though!

Mediocre diner food at inflated prices. There is no other way to sum this place up unfortunately. The location is superb and it feels like there is much more to be accomplished here. Service is a hit and miss. Food is not awful but forgettable. The setting is awesome though.

Open 24 hours! One of the few places in MDR where you can get food at any hour of the day. This is in the same building as Killer Shrimp but would consider this more or a fancy diner. There is outdoor seating on the water. You'll pay more here for your standard breakfast fare than most places but service is decent and the resturant is clean.

Good news: this diner spin-off of Killer Shrimp is open 24 hours, a valuable asset in the Marina del Rey/Venice/Playa area. The staff was friendly and they offer drinks until 1:30, which is a plus and unlike most diners. Unfortunately, they had very little carryover from the Killer Shrimp menu, which is a shame as I was really hoping for the Killer Shrimp Mac & Cheese. My girlfriend ordered the Club Sandwich, deciding on it over the Fried Chicken Sandwich. She housed the onion strings so I can't comment on them since I wasn't offered any. The club sandwich was fine. Nothing special, but filled our stomachs late night.

This place is horrible ! The food is average but pricey service is so bad I don't even want the food. I am not a happy customer only good thing about this place is the location

Stopped in last Friday at midnight because I'd been working all day. Try the Killer Tots! The Blueberry-Apple pie was really good. Might be a good place to work with my computer late at night (we'll see how fast their WiFi is next time). I'll give this place another try since I already like Killer Shrimp. The owner called and explained the mistakes.

Excellent quality service and friendly staff. Nicole really went out of her way to try and accommodate my mother's special dietary needs. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food and drinks.

Open 24 hrs! They also offer onion strings to substitute for French fries! The perfect after the bar spot for drunk greasy food. My club sandy was great. Onion strings were a lil greasy but I guess that's their nature. The whole theme is a little gnarly to me... A diner on the marina waterfront, but I guess that's cool Service here was significantly better than I have ever experienced at killer shrimp, which is always so bad, it can't even be considered service. They should switch the staff up and place last nights staff at Killer shrimp.

I'm really disappointed. I am in this area once a week on business and I can smell the deliciousness this place has to offer. On a lark with my son, I came in to try the food. I was able to get a menu after announcing the order was to go (is this where everyone reads "no tip"? For the duration of 25 minutes sitting at the counter, I was not asked once if I wanted water or coffee while I waited for my order to be taken. No eye contact, not even a smile. No "have you been helped" long after I put my menu down. I'm a pretty patient person. A little too much sometimes. I've never walked of a place before. So this was my first.

Came here for a birthday brunch. The service wasn't bad but the food wasn't good at all. We smelled the fishy shrimp the whole time while we were waiting outside for our table. We thought maybe it's just the pier or trash but we were wrong. Someone ordered the Killer Shrimp benedict and boy that shrimp was not fresh. No one liked it. The crabcake for my benedict was also a little fishy. We did enjoy the free coffee for Yelp Check-in and the side of hashbrown. Will not come here again.

Killer Café, Killer Shrimp, pretty confusing differentiation. I ended up eating at Killer Shrimp, which had a great happy hour! Reasonably priced food and drinks. I needed to order nachos for a friend as a to-go order, but that is at the Café, not at Killer Shrimp. So I called and walked over to pick it up when I was finished with my meal. An improvement that they can make, if these establishments are owned by the same person, is to be able to order things between the two restaurants. Overall, the service at both restaurants was great. I am giving it three stars because I was not there long enough to give 4 or 5 stars. I need to go a few more times, which I doubt I'll do.

Horrible service at this place. We came in around 11pm, only one more couple in a whole place, but we waited 10 min to get menu's, that over 20 min for drinks.(Three Ice Teas) Order arrived 45 minutes later !!!, can you belive that. Than we realized two dishes we ordered are missing! Turns out this waiter did not put them in computer!!! So we got 3 dishes out 5 orderd! Ridiculous ! I will never come back here again. P.S. Bathrooms looked like they weren't cleaned for days!

This cafe is clean and friendly. It is attached to killer shrimp. They share the same view. My number one reason for choosing this cafe was it was "waterfront". It is but it isn't. Honestly disappointing. Don't come for the view. Let's get to the food: I order the turkey burger. I was very satisfied with my choice. The bun was not like a fast food resturant style. It was whole sum looking. The amount of turkey was great, but the way the tomato & onions were placed/the amount/ the left over parts most would just throw away...That's what was used on my turkey burger.(not creating a presentable look). The fries are delicious, shoe string fries lightly flavored. I ordered a ShockTop and they are fairly priced at $6. The wait staff was nice nothing over the top but just mediocre. I don't think I would return, the competition is stiff in Marina Del Ray for eateries.

This is one of my new favorite spots to grab brunch on weekends. Sure, there will be a bit of a wait during busy hours, but they've always been able to seat us more quickly than originally estimated (underpromise, overdeliver!). Plus it's not too bad to sit and wait with a nice view of the water when it's nice out. I've sat on the patio every time because I usually have my dog with me. I love that it's a pet friendly environment, though one time there was a party there who had such a mean and barky dog that I wish they would have been asked to do something about it. For the most part, all owners and dogs are friendly and happy, though! On a sunny day it can be brutal to sit at a table that doesn't happen to have an umbrella over it. Last time we were there we were almost doomed to that fate until the nice group next to us told us they were leaving and gave us their primo spot with a view and an umbrella! For the most part I've been very pleased with the food. You can't go wrong with a classic breakfast or omelette. The hash browns that come out are ENORMOUS and amazing. Like a brick of delicious crispy potatoes! Even though I'm a huge fan of the signature killer shrimp that they serve at their other restaurant, the only time I was disappointed in my meal was when I got the killer shrimp breakfast burrito. Two things I love joined together in what should be a beautiful marriage but somehow it just didn't work for me. Around these parts brunch is basically a local requirement, so it's good to have found this slightly off the beaten path option!

Slow service, mediocre food. Ordered the beach dog with chili cheese and onion with a side of onion rings, forgot the onions and the onion rings, hot dog was obviously microwaved. Switched it out for steak nachos were pretty good and quickly delivered. Ordered a second drink, took 20 minutes and then gave up. Food and service next door are much better.

It is a shame that a place with such good food and a great location is soured by the ONE HOUR wait for food. As I write this we are still waiting and there are no more than 20 customers here..4 servers and 2 cooks however and yet here we are still waiting . Booooo

I have been here twice recently, early in the mornings I find it best for me to show up then. Chill vibe, beautiful view.HUGE, comfortable booths. Great service from Bernie. Their menu is 24 hours, so when my 3 year old daughter absolutely had to have mac and cheese at 8 am, we got a fantastic dish of it. Blueberry French toast is out of this world good. Cheerful atmosphere. I'm grateful to have this place to visit. I live not far from here and there's nothing like it. Thumbs up, Killer Cafe! (PS: My review is for my recent visits. I was here late morning once a couple of years ago and it was really very loud and I caught it at a very busy time and service was different. I have to say I am very pleased with this operation for the times I've been here recently and I will be returning more because of it.)

The one dude who works there late is really nice and funny and great. The other night this other guy working was just UNPLEASANT to me. Didn't make me feel welcomed at all, took a long time get me a menu, and then even though I said "I didn't need one" and that I was ready, he still took his time. He was very pleasant to the guests arrivin after or before me... That's the thing with restaurants that stay open 24/7, it's late, I get it, but you don't even close. The dude finally was giving me change and I was waiting for my coins and the server goes "do you want your coin change" WEIRD QUESTION DUDE. Give it to me and let me figure it out. I said "no it's fine", threw some extra bucks to fill in the rest of the 20%, and left PISSED OFF. I am used to getting really good service here, and this is the place that's close by, quality and open late. But this server really messed it up for me. Wendy's will be open though. Also I was a server for 8 years.

I come here solely because of the food. The service, much like its counterpart next door, Killer Shrimp, is the same, is very slow and leaves you wanting. Staff is friendly, no complaints there. But when your drinks lag, and your food finally comes and it becomes cold cause cutlery never made it and you had to steal it from another table...well somethings not right. While a smile and demeanor in the wait staff come a long way, the basics such as cutlery, drinks, water etc cannot be overlooked. Make sure to sit at the bar, maybe that will help.

Ok food, awful service. Waiter asked us for our drink order but since we didn't answer fast enough, after like 3 seconds he said he'd be back and walked away immediately. We had already settled on water but had to shout our water order at his back, since he was already gone. We got our water and then waited 15 minutes for him to come back and take our order...the place wasn't busy. My bf and I ordered the same thing so 2 eggs 2 sausage and home fries for each of us. That didn't come with pancakes so my bf wanted a stack with his and I wanted to add a side of fruit to mine, with an apple juice. when the waiter did come back we had to keep repeating our order since he didn't feel it necessary to write it down. He also didn't seem to understand that I wanted to ADD fruit and he wanted to ADD a stack of pancakes to our existing order. Instead he thought we wanted to substitute the home fries for fruit and pancakes. He repeated the order back to us twice..it was WRONG each time of course because he didn't write it down. He came back with our meal plus my side of fruit, but no juice. He brought my bf ONE pancake. ONE. he is 6'5, 250lbs. What is he going to do with ONE pancake?! We were so hungry we just said forget it and ate. Then after being asked again, my glass of ice came out....with a splash apple juice. Food was just ok. Won't be back.

We waited in front of the sign that read "please wait to be seated" for about 5 minutes, only to seat ourselves after receiving no acknowledgement from the staff. We sat and talked for about 15 minutes before discussing whether or not to leave as we were still ignored. Our server, Michael finally came over with some menus and immediately left without saying a word. He returned about 5 minutes later to take our order. 30 minutes pass. I can see some of our food sitting under a heat lamp, and as I get up to ask why its taking so long, Michael shows up to tell me that what I had ordered is unavailable. I ask if my wife can have her food so that it won't be any colder than it already is, and he obliged. He offered no apology or consideration for the screw up. As I write this, my wife has been done with her meal for about 15 minutes. I haven't seen a server since. I am out of beer ( have been for a while) and she never received her water. I'll never be coming back to this place

Tom the manager. Oh Tom. What can be said... let set the scene. My husband and I come in for a 10pm dinner on Saturday. Our server Michael did his best but we could tell he was new. That's cool. I'm in no hurry. He takes our order a really nice buser dropped off our appetizers. I(and by I i mean the whole restaurant) then notice a group of loud indiduals come in a ait down. From the moment they entered they were noticble. let's be fair the manager was amazing at dropping lines to pretty girls. Not only was he too preoccupied flirting with a customer to deal with unruly customers his sever was the one to wake him up from his spitting game daze to bring the issue to his attention...which was just a few feet away from him. Whoa. In a nutshell the food was great the entertainment was better lol

Well, I wanted to like it. But, they just couldn't pull it off. A greasy flavorless burger, cold oil wilted onion rings and service that was secondary to the ongoing conversation the workers were having behind the counter while food sat unattended for pick up. The worst part though, was watching the waitress make a cappuccino without wiping the already milk crusted steam wand off. Nope, can't like it.

I've only had the huevos rancheros here, and they were fine. What is great about this place is that they are open 24 hours, something LA does not have enough of. Also of note, I believe this franchise is owned by 70's musician Lee Michaels "Do You Know What I Mean"

I have been coming here for years and never in those years have I experienced what I have tonight. I got seated and handed a menu. After that I didn't reserve any silverware or water for 20 minutes straight. Then when I finally got services she handed me water and walked away for another ten minutes. By now I am at the point where I want to speak to a manger and here she come rude as ever to take my order. Bad service is a down side to this place. Fix it and they have something going. Until then they have lost a long time customer. Who want to go out and be treated like crap when at the end of the meal you have to pay? Not me.

I've gone to Killer Shrimp many times & lobed thr food so I decided to try Killer Cafe. I seated myself, as for a menu 10 mins later at the bar seating. Ordered the shrimp & grits with potatoes. Dirty not reviewed shrimp w a small portion of shrimp for a $14 breakfast. Grits were grossly bland, service was pure and bathrooms were dirty. Yuck, do disappointed. My potatoes were also burnt. Coffee was decent. wasn't ever asked for a refill. Finally 20 minutes in I was asked. No it wasn't busy.

This place was great. We had breakfast on a Saturday morning after buying an used Iphone from a guy at a taco stand nearby. Sit on the patio so you can watch the ships and runners go by. Lots to see. I ordered the Steak and eggs. The eggs were great. The steak was very thin and overcooked. I asked for it more on the rare side. They fixed it without a hassle. Would pass on the steak part next time. Hash browns were stunning. We also got the french toast. It was great. As expected. We also got the shrimp and egg wrap. It was amazing. Liked by all. Staff was warm and friendly. Prices were as expected. I would recommend this place.

Su...lo...wwww ... Ser...v...i...c...e... If Killer Cafe means to kill your lunch break then bravo, gentlemen ... Bu...rav...ohhh. The place wasn't busy at all ... Yay! We had our choice of seats on the patio or an indoor booth. Of course, getting a Marina patio seat is the best choice, so, we did. The Marina view is limited, but it's still better than indoors ... except the part about our server taking so long to get menus, water, orders, food, and then the check settled had me wondering if it was because we were out of sight. We split two dishes. Killer Shrimp & Grits with 2 Eggs plus a side of Fresh Fruit ($13) had tangy and almost spicy small Shrimp on a bed of unremarkable Grits (3 stars). Notably, a pair of Eggs - Sunnyside Up (5 stars) were absolutely perfect. BTLA Sandwich with Hash Browns ($9) was a classic Bacon, Tomato, and Lettuce Sandwich upgraded with fresh Avocado on toasted bread (4 stars). A side of Hash Browns (4 stars) were thick and satisfying. One smart option when visiting Killer Cafe is to take advantage of a $28 value Groupon Deal for $14. With a standard Latte, tax, & tip, the final total cost of our meal came out to $21 (thanks to the $14 discount) ... which was just about the right price for the quality of food. Free Parking in Marina del Rey on the waterfront is always a plus. The food was ok and the value (thanks to Groupon) was evident, but Killer Cafe is appropriately branded "killer" for two reasons. It's got an almost-killer spot on the waterfront in Marina del Rey and dining there will literally kill your entire lunch hour and more.

Incredible place! I wish I could give it a sixth star. First off, it's about damn time we had a 24 hour diner in the Venice/MDR area - and now we have one with a heated patio on the water, no less! This is LA's best diner, and I especially appreciate that they welcome artists, with free wifi available to laptoppers. It is a diner, and the food is greasy, but for being a grease spoon, the ingredients are quite good and everything is fresh. Compared to most diner fare, you'll definitely find healthier options here. For the managers reading, I'd love to see some cold pressed juice offered - just a hint ;) Food wise, the egg benedicts are delicious! Lastly, it has a Cheers vibe in here - the staff remembers your name and they're always glad you came. Sixth star if I could!

Mixed review here. I have eaten here at different times of the day and noticed a big difference. First off I must say that I love the breakfast here, but only during breakfast time. If you are like me and love hash browns than this is a place you have to try. Beware though, because I have ordered off the breakfast menu at night (around 9pm) and it tasted as if they took the leftover hash browns from the morning and tried to reheat it. So instead of getting those golden brown crispy potatoes, you will get burnt blackened soggy potatoes. It happened both times at night, but like I said during breakfast and lunch time they are the best I've had.

Walked in on a busy Sunday morning and was greeted with the most beautiful smile from the host. I waited for a table on the patio...definitely worth the wait... and had the killer shrimp burrito with hash browns. I will definitely be back...Service and food were great!

Came here on a super slow July 4th day. The restaurant was basically empty. Ordered 2 simple breakfasts, one corned beef hash and the other a 2 egg breakfast with ham. Ordered both eggs to be over medium. While my girlfriend's came out over medium, mine came with busted yolks and cooked all the way through. Didn't make any kind of sense and to top it off the food took over 20 minutes to come out even though the restaurant was basically empty. The food was just bleh, it doesn't take a lot to make a great breakfast and there wasn't much to write about. Everything took an excessively long time. From the food, to the drink refills, to paying the check. The only good thing I could say was that the guy outside tending to the umbrellas was attentive to the sun shining on us and make sure we weren't getting too much sun. I am also not a fan of the skimpy/trashy outfits that the servers wear.

Sloooww service and food is just ok. This isn't the first time either. I used to love this place when it was Edie's Diner with 50's music. Great food open all night. And while it's still open late, and the music is rockin 80s, the food and service is just meh.

So my boyfriend and I came here to take advantage of the groupon deal.. we asked our server about it because-our faults didn't make the reservation required by groupon . Anyway.. he was incredibly irrated by it, and said he was going to get the manager-Meghan, who kept us waiting for a minute but turned out to be very helpful and friendly..she saved us from walking out. We then waited 10 minutes after talking to her for another server to come to our table. The second server Bernie came back who was very friendly and seemed a lot happier to help. WE ended up ordering the original which was a bowl of shrimp in a amazing spicy, rosemary broth, served with a whole loaf of sourdough bread very delicious! We also got the mahi mahi with the pineapple slaw rice and veggies. The fish and slaw were prepared and cooked perfectly, rice was good just a plain white rice but went great with all the dripped oil and sauce from the fish and veggies. The veggies were zucchini, asparagus and yellow squash that was all coked very well it wasnt soggy or underdone. All in all we will be returning- also awesome to know that they are 24 hours.

Time: Last Friday 5pm Three tables two patrons at each. Outside patio, 3 tables occupied. One patron at bar. I counted 11 servers, 1 bartender. We were seated upon arrival and greeted (hence the one star) Sitting, we looked over a great sounding menu but were ignored by ALL staff for 11 minutes. I actually started timing after a good bit of time. No water on table, no hello, no nothing. In fact one employee looked at us and I went to wave as she promptly looked away. So instead of spending our $100 (we had time to add up the cost of what we would be buying) there we left and went to Panda Express. It took us close to an hour to get there in traffic from Santa Monica and we really wanted to have a great meal there. Never again.

The food was above average. The hash browns are noteworthy. I had steak and eggs with sour dough toast. The steak was a nice lean cut. The eggs were cooked exactly as asked (over med.). The outside is a nice atmosphere on the heated patio. The toast was a little under-toasted, but it was ok and I'm sure they would have redone it if I had asked. I also liked the raspberry jam the offered.

Simply the best breakfast menu in the area. Wow all the way around. Shrimp Benedict is awesome. But so many great choices. Extensive menu has something for everyone. Chicken fried steak is fresh. Not frozen. Great burgers, Huevos Rancheros, French Dip, great salads, breakfast burritos, breakfast potatoes and lots more. Can have breakfast or lunch. Nice setting right on the Marina and excellent service. We go at least twice a month. Love this place!

So first time I went was today and this will be the first negative review I have ever given. To be honest my dish was really good but my wife's food was under cooked both the chicken and the fries sucked they replaced it fine enough with a slight attitude. Then the bill came with a $ 2 charge for egg whites. I understand most places charge but they always tell and my favorite spot doesn't charge. When I brought it up with the waiter about the charge he said "Everyone charges for egg whites" I said most do but some don't, he looked at me with rolled eyes and a smirk then waitress Jessica decided to come over and chime in. She had to come by and say "Every restaurant charges" while flicking her air, the Wife noticed. So Pedro our waiter even asked me which restaurant which I told him again he rolled his eyes. The service is really poor, I love Killer Shrimp but can't see myself going back to Killer Cafe.

Answer me this!!! What is all the "yang" about Killer Shrimp (it's return)? My gf decided to take me out for my birthday (albeit belated, but I was glad to have lunch with a good friend), and she suggested Killer Cafe. I hadn't been to Killer Shrimp since it reopened so I was game. I used to love the original spot on Washington years ago so I thought "what is there to lose?" I will just say this... "NEXT!" What is the hoopla about? I was so underwhelmed with the food I felt bad that she was treating. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits...off the diet but I thought if I am going to indulge in Killer Cafe let me go big or go home! My dish came and the shrimp looked good, there was a nice helping of scrambled eggs, and a fair serving of grits ON A PLATE. How do you serve shrimp and grits on a plate??? Not only that, the grits looked as bland and white as an ice cap!!! A good dish of shrimp and grits is in a bowl. There's enough butter and/or cheese to turn the grits a pale yellow, and the shrimp are tender and well seasoned since they have finished cooking in the grits upon being doled into the bowl. Well, for brevity's sake, lets just say that this is NOT how this dish was prepared at Killer cafe. Bland, boring, rubbery, and completely unworthy of this many words, was my review for my particular dish. I'll not be back. The location is nice being right on the water but that's about as good as it gets.

This is one of the worse breakfast/brunch places I've ever been to. I recommend Denny's or Norms over this place any day. The waitress staff are rude and no one checks on you. Long waits for everything...they are very unprofessional and the food was not very good. Not what I expected at all especially for a restaurant in Marina del Rey.

Best Huevos Rancheros around! Great tomatillo salsa lathered on top of the eggs over easy! Don't miss the hash brown either! Friendly staff, killer view and great patio overlooking the Marina. Maybe not everything on the menu is the best but try the Huevos!

I've been here over an hour and they gave up my seats for my group. The hostess, although not an actual employee since they work at killer shrimp, gave me the ring around. Basically telling me waiting for one table, which then ended up being given away. Ridic, I would not recommend this place to anyone for a sunday. Not to knock the business but come here on the off periods, or when they get customer service up and running. BTW the yelp check in DOESNT work. Our waiter, who I was informed also gave the table away, nodded to my yelp check in and claimed the discount but when the bill came there was the $3 coffee. Salt on the wound, I didn't want to flag anyone down to get it fixed so I paid the $3.00 coffee our group did. Our group party had 4 people who work in the food industry and they even said it was ridiculous! In the end, we still tipped since the food was good, and I stress GOOD not great. You can see that there are several reviews on here with "groups" and the wait times and horrible service. Come here to get it TO GO if you really want breakfast that bad...if not, go somewhere else....i wouldn't be surprised if there were additional 1 star reviews from here on out.

One of the great comfort food establishments on the Westside. Now that Killer Cafe is opened for all three meals, their expanded menu provides all the standard menu items at reasonable prices and outstanding quality. Their crispy, thin friend onion rings are fantastic! And on our great weather days the outside patio overlooking the marina is delightful. Kenbodie

The waitress was friendly. The food was good. However the kitchen was a disaster. We waiting half an hour for the food and then one meal didn't come for another 10 minutes. One of the sandwiches had horseradish (we had told them no horseradish) and it took another 10 minutes for a new one to arrive. Horrible waste of or afternoon.

My friend and I had a horrible experience at Killer Café yesterday evening. The place was almost empty. We ordered a warm spinach salad and entrees. They brought us a Caesar salad. We sent it back and reminded the waiter that we had ordered the warm spinach salad. They brought us a romaine heart with warm dressing and parmesan. We objected again...this was not a warm spinach salad that was on the menu that we had ordered. Then the owner came to the table. Instead of being apologetic he was downright rude. He told me to calm down because of the irritation in my voice. We decided to leave. He followed us to the parking lot and said if we left our car there and walked to another destination he would have us towed. He also said we were banned from his restaurant and never to come back again. This is customer service??? What a dump. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE EVER!!!

Another Groupon discovery pays off. I got the e-mail about their offer just as I had family coming into town to entertain and I thought breakfast with marina views would be just the thing. Turns out it was. First plus: ample free parking on site. We walk right in, no waiting, and grab a seat on the patio. A lot of the reviews here complain about the service, but our server was very attentive...except for one snafu where he took another table's order before ours, even though we arrived first. But afterwards, no complaints. And he refilled our coffee like three or four times. I had never had eggs Benedict before, so I tried their version with the smoked salmon, and I think I may have a new favorite breakfast order now. The hash browns weren't quite as impressive--I found them a little dry. But generous portions on everything. Good value for the price, especially in the marina. And everybody in my party was generally pleased with their order. Only drawbacks: because of the setting, I expected slightly more upscale digs, which is only an issue if you're trying to impress, except today I was. And as other reviewers pointed out, there's no hostess to seat you when you come in. Also, the patio, which is the big draw, is in direct sunlight at 9 a.m., and the umbrellas don't do much to help. Overall, a pleasurable experience. The next time I'm looking to do a big breakfast or a brunch, I'm keeping Killer Cafe in mind. If nothing else, they do a killer eggs Benedict.

I bought a Groupon and came here on a Sunday and found out I couldn't use it on Sundays so I came back two weeks later on a Saturday. Both visits the food was bland and we waited almost 45 minutes for an omelette the first time and 30 minutes for a burrito the second time. Also, the waitresses do not put their hair up and I could clearly see their hair touching the food of someones plate. Gross! The patio and staff is nice but its impossible to get a seat outside.

I went in to get coffee to go. The hostess was terrific. Helpful and welcoming. But none of the waitresses would ring me up. One even saying so and loud enough for the customer, me, to hear while standing 8 ft away. Five tables of customers three at the counter, and seemingly three waitresses. All too busy to ring up $6 in coffee. So lame. It's now time to go eat brunch with my wife and I know where I am not going for sure.

Kevin was an awesome waiter. Excellent service and the food was great. I highly recommend the salmon Benedict and the hash browns.

I be had issues with the service in the past, Cara was top notch there. Food is good. Just had a veggie scramble with fruit and they didn't screw it up. Downside, not enough umbrellas on the patio on a hot day like today. So when we asked one of the waitresses not Cara if we could move to one when out good came she said no because of reservations. As we are finishing there are still 5 tables wide open for seating. Messed up!

YAY!! I'm so glad to figure out where my killer shrimp had disappeared too. I used to be a regular when they were on Washington. Then, my mind must have played tricks on me because I don't know how long ago they moved to this location. But the Killer Cafe was the perfect place to meet an out-of-town colleague for a Sunday Brunch meeting. It wasn't too crowded, and I love the black interior trimmed with red. I had the shrimp and grits and enjoyed them to the last bite (took half home and it was incredible heated up the next day). He enjoyed the food too and he's FROM the south. So, we were impressed. Reasonably priced for the Marina strip area. And my favorite--- FREE parking! The service was a bit slow and disorganized at first, but I didn't mind. I will be back. Can't wait to have regular killer shrimp and dipping bread.

PROS the views of the Marina in the Patio CONS waiter service, slow cooking speeds, mediocre food Oh man, what a let down! This was the second time we came back to this place, the first was in part to a Groupon for breakfast. That time the food was ok and the waitress was a delight being helpful, funny, and courteous. Loved her awesome attitude. This second time we came expecting the same and met with the worst waiter ever. The turkey burger took more than 45 mins to cook according to him, and by the time he brought it out the fries were cold and my friend's food was barely luke warm. It was obvious that this man was just recently promoted from a bus boy because once he took our order and brought our food 45 minutes later he was gone and managed to evade us anytime we tried to get his attention, we might as well have gone to the kitchen to get our food would have been faster. The food this time was bad, and I don't know if they switched chefs or if it was the careless waiter who didn't get the food on time but for the lack of taste, bad service, and prices this place is not worth the visit.

Started coming here after I joined the marina outrigger canoe club for breakfast on Sunday ... its very convenient to walk from mothers beach after a hard workout with other club members. nice atmosphere specially if you sit outside on the patio and good service. sometimes its real busy to get a table so the wait could run 30-40 minutes but other times it was quick ... They have the best "huevos rancheros" ... I also get the chicken sandwich which is huge. if you are up for it from 7 am - 9 am they run a $5.00 breakfast

I have been to Killer Cafe/Killer Shrimp twice. Both times the service and food were outstanding!!! I had lunch the first time and breakfast the second. The staff is attentive without making you feel rushed. Casual atmosphere with seating outside overlooking the marina, or inside in large comfy booths. You can't go wrong by coming here!

It wasn't what I expected. I ordered shrimp and grits, not too tasty. The best part of my breakfast was the friendliness of my waitress.

I usually love this place and the food here is always great but when I came today, the service was very slow, over 45 minutes to wait for our food and not once did our server apologize about the wait, I don't get mad easily but I was a little angry about the whole situation. The staff was standing around not running food and left the bus boys to run it, I was just a little thrown off by the staff and how they were handling the situation.

I've been meaning to get on and rate this place as it is our go-to for a yummy weekend breakfast with a great view of the marina from the patio! We love coming here especially for the eggs Benedict-the sauce has a good kick and the eggs are always perfectly poached. A side of fruit is the best choice as its always awesome. We also enjoy the buttermilk pancakes with blueberries or bananas. Today was the first time we've had terrible service which is why I'm rating 3 stars. It took 15 min to get coffee and had to ask twice. Then they didn't want to redeem the free yelp coffee. Very poor waiter but the food was delicious and the view was amazing as always!

Love the Killer Shrimp so I was pleasantly surprised to find their sister restaurant, Killer Cafe. Food was hearty and very tasty. Price is reasonable and the harbor view and casual atmosphere is inviting. Service was excellent and speedy. Definitely will be back for seconds!

Great place for a nice hearty breakfast. You can sit outside and look at boats in the marina while you eat. I LOVE the hash brown potatoes. Very crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside. The Eggs Florentine is my favorite. Service is good. I can recommend this venue to anyone.

Killer Cafe has a great ambiance to it and is on the water. Went for breakfast and they had several options on their menu. Before 9 AM they have a $5 breakfast special which was not only delicious but was plenty of food. Can't beat the location, price, quality and service!

My daughter and I went to this restaurant because of the reviews I had read about it. Upon entering, there was a rancid odor coupled with a burned smell. We placed our order and waited. The food was terrible. My bacon looked and tasted as if it had been cooked the day before. My daughter's muffin was hard enough to break a window and her melon and oatmeal were inedible. We both choked down my pancakes and paid the bill: $34!

I came with my mom to Killer Shrimp at 12:20pm on a Saturday, armed with a brunch Groupon for $20 (paid $10) and was seated promptly before I asked if we could order brunch here and was directed carelessly to the café next door. The wait was "20-30 minutes" so my mom and I ambled outside and enjoyed the amazing aroma of buttered fish and the view of yachts. We came back in 20 minutes and sat around and listened to the lady call out other people's names. 30 minutes after we had been back for 20 minutes, I got suspicious that a couple I was sure came later than we did got called to be seated. It turns out the lady had called our names but I either didn't hear her or she called our names before 20 minutes, which made our wait time about 50 minutes at 1:10pm, which pretty much pissed me off cause I had gone to the podium about 5 times to check our position in the 30 minutes we were waiting in the flies-infested restaurant. The lady apologized twice however, and my mom was enjoying the environment and critiquing the way people ate and seemed pretty much unfazed so I let that go. + Wonderful view of the marina. The shadows of the umbrellas to block the sun from peoples' faces were well placed without being in the way of the scenery. + Check into yelp for free drip coffee + Cheerful server who was on point with the coffee serving and remembered my yelp deal at the end without my having to remind her + It seems like Killer Shrimp waiter attire is "all black chill rocker"? I guess it's cute. + We ordered Killer Shrimp benedict ($12) and NY Steak and eggs ($13). 5 minutes from seated to ordering, 20 minutes from ordering to receiving food. + My killer shrimp benedict was AMAZING. Although the egg was not perfectly poached, the hollandase sauce was basically the best I've ever had EVER. They also added a spicy kick, which went well with the overall flavoring. This dish alone is why my star count is so inflated. + The hashbrowns were very buttery but didn't have much of a taste to me, hence the provision of ketchup. My mom, however, found the hashbrowns to be beyond delicious, without the ketchup. + Steak was thin and well-seasoned. I don't usually take to steak but this was one good steak. -Table nor floor was clean. There was a sticky residue off to the side of my end of the table and a smashed strawberry something underneath my seat. -Flies inside! Sit outside. A bit windy outside, but I am biased cause I don't like wind. -Took flipping forever to get our check! I had to flag down a busboy to get a box. While showing my mom how to use groupon, I chanced upon another groupon for killer café at $12 for $24 worth of food, which would be much worth it since an entrée is about $12-13 dollars. I would most definitely come back with a fellow egg benny enthusiast and order the same thing!

It seems like the same issues as the previous cafe in this place, panificio. The service is very slow and sometimes completely absent. The test at a breakfast spot is sometimes how often coffee is refilled, water refilled, how often the staff checks in to make sure you have everything or how hot your food is when served. This place, like the one before it, fails on all service measures. There is potential based on food and esp location, but someone needs to manage this place and train and observe the staff who is focused on satisfying customers and asking for feedback. Maybe an owner operator who loved running their own diner and a happy attentive staff

A sister restaurant to the next-door scrumdiddlyumptious Killer Shrimp, Killer Cafe serves breakfast starting from 6am daily. The place closes at 1pm weekdays and 2pm weekends. FOOD: Casual food, reasonable price. I had an omelette with spinach and mushrooms, which came with fruit that came in a semi-fancy cup. The dish came with a small cup of ketchup and the server gave me a bottle of Tabasco and I believe Tapatio. It would've been nice if they had their own signature sauce. If there was a bit more originality in the dish, I would've given 5 stars. (Their Killer Shrimp got originality!) SERVICE: The service started off slow (i.e. didn't bring the menu until minutes later. I felt ignored and confused.), but was very friendly. Attentive once they gave me the menu. FEEL: The interior is clean and minimal. Air-conditioned. Each booth seats a party of 6 comfortably. If it's a sunny day, I recommend sitting out in the patio, which overlooks the Marina Harbor. Lots of yachts! There are big patio umbrellas available for those of you wrinkle-conscious ladies. PARKING: Free and private parking right in front of the restaurant! Such a treat in a city like Los Angeles. CONCLUSION: It's a great place to bring your family for a Sunday brunch. You can stay past closing time as long as you get in before 1pm/2pm.

I bring all my out of town guests here and meet my friends here whenever I can! Best corn beef hash in town period! Good Bloody Mary but wish it came with a shrimp and celery stalk! ;). Killer Shrimp breakfast burrito is also great and amazing Benedict selection! Love eating on the marina!

I would only come back for the coffee. Went for the corned beef hash but it was disappointing and mushy. When you first walk in it has the old school cafe vibe, but the service and food are sub-par. We paid $43 for 2 of us for breakfast! We sat on the deck and wanted just a hint of shade. Warning: do NOT touch the umbrellas. The waitress nearly went off on us and we heard her do the same to others as they sat down. Don't think I'll be going back.

Oh Mah Gawd! This place is absolutely amazing. I live right next door, so I visit this place often. You can choose to sit on the patio or inside, or at the "bar" (no wait for bar, first come first served). Their killer shrimp eggs Benedict is AMAZING. Their hashbrowns are a bit too soggy for me, so I always ask them to make it extra crispy. Their home fries (potatoes) are nothing special, so not a bad idea to switch out for fruit. Service is decent (they're pretty busy) so don't expect to go there for fast service. This is the perfect cafe to visit when you're hungover and just want to chill, watch the marina, and have some amazing brunch.

What we ordered? French toast, bacon, bagel, hamburger, hashbrowns, chicken fried steak, home potatoes, vanilla shake, and strawberry smoothie. What was good? The hashbrowns, fries, bagel, burger. French toast looked nothing like the picture I saw on groupon and was under cooked in the center, the chicken fried steak had no flavor what so ever-the gravy lacked flavor actually the worse we ever had, the smoothie taste like vanilla yogurt mixed with sour cream, and the vanilla shake had a weird flavor. We went on a Sunday so we were unable to use our groupon so we ended up spending $49 for a table full of not so good tasting food. Im more upset that I have to go back to use my groupon. I guess we will stick to the burgers and fries for everyone on our next visit. We also sat inside because it was a chilly day but since they leave the doors wide open it felt like we were sitting outside. I almost forgot they allow dogs on the patio. I feel to each its own when it comes to animals. However, I do not want to sit next to you and your pooch while Im eating and he is barking and wagging his tail (dog hair flies in the wind I dont want it on my plate). The lady who appeared to be the manager (she was walking around telling everyone what to do and assisting some of the staff) was playing with the dogs. This is a food establishment and she came out twice touching one of the dogs. Im just curious if she washed her hands.

I'm glad I didn't let the 3 star Yelp rating deter me from giving this place a try! I had an excellent tasting breakfast with terrific service (Kevin rocks!). I ordered the killer breakfast burrito with some of the best hashbrowns I have ever had! The breakfast is almost impossible to finish. My only regret is that I missed out of the fresh squeezed tangerine juice, but I went for a late breakfast. Maybe next time I will get my ass out of bed earlier, because I will be back!

Service wasn't too good, my family and i were put straight into the sun outside. We asked to move the table closer towards the shade and they wouldn't allow it. The food on the other hand was incredible. If you're patient and not in a rush, definitely recommend going here.

After writing my last review I noticed an immediate change in their service. The crew carries coffee around with them now as they check up on tables. Killer Cafe, you're the best breakfast place in the area. I've been in the area for 14 years and I've tried them all.

I went to Killer Shrimp for the first time about 10 years ago when they were located in Marina Del Rey. I was not a fan back then. I could never understand what all the hoopla was about. I can make bad tasting shrimp in pepper water at home. So fast forward all these years later and my girlfriend wants to go and try Killer Cafe. We went for breakfast early one morning and just like the old days, Killer Cafe disappointed just like Killer Shrimp. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were tasteless and the shrimp had no flavor other than pepper. My girl ordered the shrimp burrito. The shrimp were under cooked and overall the burrito lacked seasoning. To top it off, even the coffee sucks and I got that for free by checking in. The Pros: Great location, great ambiance, friendly staff The Cons: The food

Ok, I just wrote up a very cutting (yet truthful!) review for Killer Shrimp. I'm not sure why I decided to give their cafe a try, but I'm glad I did. Interior is clean and has a wide open, airy feeling. We waited about 10 mins for a table on the patio on this beautiful Sunday morning. I ordered a bloody mary, with extra tabasco on the side. When the server returned, she said it was pre-made (made in advance, not a packaged mix) and didn't give me the tabasco. I was confused. Anyway, didn't matter cause the bloody mary was perfect; rich, mildly spicy, thick almost "meaty" in flavor... I guess it had umami. Perfectly tangy. I ordered the traditional eggs bene with hash browns. Delicious. The hollandaise was citrusy and buttery. The eggs were perfectly poached. (See picture) OMG, the hashbrowns were phenomenal: crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and they had flavor, unlike some bland versions I've had elsewhere. My girlfriend had the killer shrimp omelet and was disappointed. The shrimp were rubbery and overcooked, but said the flavor was good and the egg itself was fluffy. She had 2 bloody mary's so she was just fine :) Service ok. A solid C. I will be returning for the sunshine, Bloody's and hash browns. Oh, prices are totally agreeable for being in the Marina :)

I've lived in MDR for 7 years and this is my first time here. All I have to say is that I will most definitely be coming back on a regular basis. Our server,Molly was so accommodating and friendly. My friend said she would be a great salesperson. Our food was excellent. I had the eggs benidict. It's was perfect. I thought the prices are quite reasonable. This place is definitely going to be my regular weekend spot for brunch!

Holy Holy! The Killer Shrimp Pot Pie is just simply the most delicious thing I've eaten in a long time from a restaurant. Had a good spicy kick and the flaky puff pastry top was done expertly. Other items on the menu looked great and we can't wait to return and try more,....although hard to resist not ordering the pot pie. Prices are very reasonable and patio space overlooking the marina is the same as the next door higher end restaurant. Can't be beat.

Pros: Pretty good food. Good atmosphere. Plenty of parking in that part of town. Open early. Cons: Slow service Expensive. My undercooked incident (explained below) I was a regular here, eating about once every two weeks with no problems. It's not that great but open early so I'd grab some eggs Benedict before going to work. One day my eggs came undercooked (the whites of the eggs were still runny and the yolk was COLD). I only found out after I took my first bite. I got attitude from the chef when asking to return it (the waitress was cool about it) but I decided that I won't be returning. Can't get the taste of the raw egg out of my mouth.

Who are these people writing good reviews about this place? We went there this morning based on these erroneous praises. The food was disastrous, and the service alternated between completely absent and just plain mean. It took us 1 1/2 hours to get out of there because of the horrible service. We had: Crab cakes benedict: total of half teaspoon hollandaise, yet crusted with paprika and parsley. Crab smelled and tasted both frozen and old. The side of fruit was served in a dirty bowl that was encrusted with egg yolk. Seriously! Corned beef hash with poached eggs: The hash was a mushy catastrophy that appeared to be corned beef hash which someone ate and vomited onto the plate. The eggs were undercooked, runny whites. Side of bacon: tooth-breakingly cooked 2 hours in advance. Side of hash browns: what is the fuss with this? It was a giant, un-seasoned, McDonald's hash brown cake. We were given dirty forks when we sat down and had to flag down the waiter to get new ones. He was apathetic, at best, about the whole affair. I managed to flag the waiter down once to ask for coffee, which he refilled 10 minutes later. He never checked on us, and when we received the paprika-encrusted Benedictine concoction, and commented on it, he replied "it's paprika and green onions! I mean parsley!" and ran away, never to return until he dropped the $42 check for breakfast for 2. Gross.

As we sit here, with the managers bitching right next to us - completely inappropriate. The only positive thing about our experience was our server Molly. The other waitress was a mega-bummer. Eeyore if you're into Pooh.

Ok, so I recenetly moved to Marina del Rey and this has become a staple bruncherie for me. The Bloody Marys are spicy and tasty, and the huevos rancheros are just about the best I've ever had. It's connected to, and part of, the Killer Shrimp restaurant....and, consequently, you can get some lovely brunch dishes that incorporate the famous shrimp. HOWEVER, they aren't the best thing on the menu in my opinion. If you find yourself craving the old-school, you'd be better off going next door and ordering a big bowl of the original killer shrimp. Like I said, my fav is hands-down the huevos rancheros....followed closely by the smoked salmon benedict. If it's a nice day, try to get a table on the patio overlooking the water. If not, no worries, the inside is pretty cute, too. Oh, and on weekdays they have a killer breakfast special for the early birds....I, of course, have yet to pull myself out of bed in time to make it before work. One of these days....

Good, basic diner food. Service is inconsistent - when I came in it took a while for anyone to acknowledge my presence, even when they walked up to the hostess counter - I had to ask if I could sit at the counter before anyone said anything. However, my waitress at the counter was excellent, quick and followed up frequently to see if I needed anything else. I just had your normal breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. All good, but they were simply eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. Hard to screw up (although I have been to places that have managed that). Prices were quite good for the Marina area. This place is good for breakfast if you're in the Marina area, but I wouldn't necessary make a trip for it.

I LOVE Killer Shrimp so I was excited to try the Killer Cafe. Went with my girlfriend. Our food was a mix of disappointing and awesome. My girlfriend got an omelet she loved. I got the surfer breakfast which is basically breakfast served with a burger patty instead of bacon or sausage. The Angus beef patty was pretty disappointing, I asked for it medium rare but it was a bit cold and mushy in the middle, and did not have much flavor. I would not order it again. The hash browns however were some of the best I have ever had. I would go back just for the hash browns, and the eggs were solidly good. We also sat outside overlooking the Marina which was really nice. Despite all the negative comments about the service by others here, our waitress was great. Very nice and attentive. The only thing that bummed me out about the service was the men's room. It was really dirty and looked like it had not been mopped in a couple days. I do not understand how a nice restaurant can overlook such a simple thing. It makes me less confident about how well they keep the kitchen. All that said, overall I enjoyed it and will definitely give it another try.

Killer Cafe never disappoints. Everything has always been very yummy and very filling. I would highly recommend the Huevos Rancheros or the Surfer Breakfast (Eggs, Angus patty, hash browns...). The Corn Beef Hash and Eggs is also very good. The waiters are friendly and there is pretty much always seating available. If it's a pretty day, make sure you sit outside - The view is wonderful.

Basic cheap diner food, nothing special. For the price I expected more. The eggs and bacon was nothing but bland cheap stuff. The coffe is watered down p|ss. One can get MUCH MUCH better food for the same cost not too far from here, hence we will not return. This place has been through 3 ownership changes in the last 20 yrs. Sadly the new owners don't really make much of an effort. This is what you get when you're basically relying on tourists from the surrounding area to come in to your diner, i.e. not relying on repeat business. Loud rock or rap music pumped through speakers fighting with an already loud crowd. I could barely hear the person sitting across from me at the table. Overall - 1 star. Would NOT recommend it to anybody.

Sorry. I know, Christmas week. But don't come to work unless you want to work. I showed up early, only two people in one booth. I sat at the counter. Nobody paid attention, but one woman shouted, I mean shouted, "Good Morning". So, I waited and then someone appeared, one of the regular servers and brought me a menu. I asked if any of the egg dishes can come with grits and toast. He said, "Yes." So I ordered two eggs over easy, grits, and toast. Then he asked if I wanted bacon, sausage. I asked if ham was possible, as it is during the week. He took the order. Now, while I was waiting the woman returned and did what best could be described as an audition for the Neil Simon Theatre in New York, only if the producers were in the last row of the balcony. I mean, loud. I signaled to me server, who understood and she did lower her voice after he spoke with her and her incessant stories about Christmas - for a few minutes. Anyone who walked in, and they were all staff, received the same uproarious "Good morning" and she proceeded to chat away. My server asked me if I needed a spoon and I said, "No. I'm good." He brought me a spoon. My server asked later if everything was okay. 'Fine. Let me give you a credit card." He walked away. I sat with my card in hand for nearly five minutes. Three employees were right in front of me. By this time, I was the only customer. The server eventually looked up, after previously glancing my way twice and decided to come over. I said, "I told you that I wanted to give you my card." He said, "But I wanted you to enjoy your toast." My check had an additional charge for the ham. Really? $18 including tax and tip. I was mislead. I don't mind paying, but this wasn't right. Sorry. Customer service gone. This was not the usual Saturday crew. Or maybe it is, and I just don't know. Clearly disappointed on all levels, except the food, which is hard to ruin. Don't really know, but isn't $3 for tea going a bit too far? This isn't the Ritz Carlton.

After my first vist here on a Saturday on 9/30/2012 It was a bit crowded and had to wait a while for food but during the week Went back on 10/12/2012 and the Service was Great!!! And the food was Fresh and tasted Great. Seams that during the week is a lot better time to eat here less people

I'm a regular at this establishment but normally go on weekdays (no holidays). My wife and I had breakfast on July 4th using a Groupon coupon. We decided to imbibe on the shrimp and grits. I wonder if by disclosing the coupon while making the order was the start of a bad situation! Within 4 hours of eating the shrimp and grits breakfast, we were both deathly ill! Food poison! Not sure if we got a bad batch of shrimp or by showing the coupon, we may have eaten some previously cooked older shrimp for the "coupon" people. My wife and I will slowly recover but I've learned a valuable lesson. Never disclose your coupon while making your order!

Have been here for breakfast a few times, and today for lunch. We usually go early on Saturday before anyone else is there. The waitress is very friendly and the food is very good. The Corned Beef Has with eggs and Chorizo and Eggs breakfasts are both really good. Bloody Marys are really spicy, if you like that you'll probably like them. They were a little spicier than I like, though. Today we were there for lunch and the parking lot was full and there was a line at the door. (Course it was around 10:45 so you'd expect it to be busier than at 7 AM.) We were told that the wait for a table would be 30-35 minutes. The counter was full, but there was a couple that had just gotten their check so we thought we'd wait and grab their seats when they left. By the time they worked out the tip (or whatever was taking them so long) the hostess called our names and we were seated. Apparently a lot of the people who had given their names left, because when I commented to the hostess that it was an awfully short 30 minutes, she said that all the parties for 2 she called before us didn't answer and had apparently left. Come on folks, if you've given your name and decide to leave, tell the hostess so she can remove your name from them list, and later arrivers won't be told it's a 30 minute wait when it's only 10. Hubster had a hamburger, fries, and strawberry shake. He said the hamburger was good and cooked medium well as he requested. I had the Prime Rib French Dip and it was excellent!! The bread was perfect, and the meat was juicy, flavorful and tender. The waiter offered to bring the horseradish cream on the side, and I said sure in case it was hotter than I like. However, it was perfect, and I put it all on my sandwich. My only complaint was that the au jus for dipping was actually more like a gravy. I ordered it with shoestring onion rings which were also excellent. Along with a Pacifico, it made for a great lunch. I like that it opens at 7 AM for breakfast and I really like that sandwich I had for lunch. They have a Yelp check-in coupon for free brewed coffee. It's close to home and grocery shopping so I'm sure we'll be back.

You will not find better hash browns anywhere. Great breakfast burrito as well. Consistent food and service. Great outdoor seating. Inside poor acoustics, just like next door.

This place is great! And I'm so happy to have more choices in the marina. Can't beat the view and the food is good too. Tons of parking and seating. Lived in the marina for 8 yrs and I was just asking my friends why aren't there any restaurants that are boater friendly around here? So happy to be able to roll up in the boat or on my paddle board! See u on the water!!

You'd think a place who's looking for local business and is only open for breakfast and lunch would AT LEAST serve good coffee. Cheap low quality food, terrible coffee. This kind of food may cut it for the tourist but not the locals. I write this with sadness as i live right on the corner and i like the owner. I would NOt go back, or recommend this place.

Perhaps the kitchen was having a "bad morning," but our order took about half an hour to arrive. And that was after we waited fifteen minutes to put in our order. Not a good start. When the food finally arrived, I was unimpressed with my bacon/cheese/avocado omelet. For $10, I expect a bit more than two eggs folded over bacon with a dribbling of cheese on top (granted, the avocado was good and fresh). And what is it with no toast with the breakfast? That's lame. My wife's breakfast sandwich was fine on an English muffin but her home fries were a bit greasy and heavily seasoned. For $10, if you want a quality, reasonably sized omelet (with toast or muffin) then just go a couple miles to the Ocean Park Omelet Parlor on Main St. in Santa Monica. Or head up to Ronnie's Diner at Jefferson/McConnell for a fairly priced breakfast. Although we are in Marina del Rey a few times a week, year-round, I doubt we will bother with Killer Cafe again.

I had a good experience here. I went here with my friend yesterday (which was a Sunday) around 11am, for breakfast. There was a 15 minute wait (not bad). I know other reviews on here mention obnoxiously loud music playing but yesterday at least, there was no loud music playing (actually we didn't hear any music at all) I ordered an omelette which I enjoyed very much. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The home fries that came with it were excellent too. My friend ordered corned beef hash and eggs, and she said it was the best corned beef hash she has ever had (!) I ended up bringing the steak and eggs dish home as well, for my boyfriend and he said he enjoyed it and would order it again. The staff was very nice. Overall, we were very satisfied and would come again.

Went there today for the first time, but I'd read some good YELP reviews, enough for me to recommend that me and my "Breakfast Club" of friends give it a try. I was very embarrassed. I thought that the Brioche French Toast were going to be the Knock-Out breakfast dish... 1st- they arrived with the wrong fruit (I'd ordered the Blueberry version), then they came back with a small sampling of blueberries ($3 extra for about 35 cents worth), finally I took a bite - and there was virtually NO EGGS - the WORST French Toast I have EVER been served. I told that to my waiter (who was very nice, by the way - - I felt badly for him). They said that it was a new cook. No excuse for not making something that even resembled French Toast. Call it Overpriced Toast -- and be honest. My friends were mostly underwhelmed by the dishes they'd ordered. The potato side dishes were good. The Latte was very good. Nice ambiance. Perhaps with the next cook...

Boom! Went back again for another round of breakfast this weekend and wifey ordered the shrimp and grits (again). Guess what? They got the grits worked up real good like this time um'hum! I reviewed it as "dry & clumpy" our first time....I don't know if that was just a bad batch or they changed the way they were preparing it but they Killer Cafe got it on point on the weekend of May 19-20! So this update is for the grits and giving appropriate "props", as it were, where they are due! But since I'm here, I'd like to tell you that I had the cream cheese and lox ($10) and I was thoroughly satisfied. Sure, there's no cooking or major prep involved but I find it helpful to know that they used fresh, quality salmon and I was, again, a happy camper. Keep it up, Killer Crew, you're doing great! P.S. The coffee here is off the proverbial chain...

I have been to the adjoined res truant Killer Shrimp several times and enjoyed the food, so when I saw the Groupon for Killer Cafe I thought why not. My friends and I arrived there to a sign that said wait to be seated, but then had a server yell out to sit anywhere. We did that and it took about 5 mins for a server to come over. When the server (Rosalie or Rosalen) did come over, she did not greet us or anything and she also didnt offer us any menus to order from. She looked at us as if we knew what we wanted already. So now time to order 10mins later and she is no where to be found, another server had to take the order. I order the killer shrimp burrito which was really good, and my two friends order the killer shrimp omelet. We only received one and the killer eggs Benedict which we didnt order. When we told the waitress that the order was wrong she had a slight attitude as if we told her the wrong thing. When the omelet came out it still wasnt the full correct order, but we took it any way. So overall the food was well, but the service sucked. No one came over to check on us or offer to refill our cups, we had to request that. And as we sat we noticed that Rosalie also copped an attitude with other patrons when they told her that their order was wrong. We eventually asked for the manager because we just didnt like what was going on. And he offered us free drink tickets for our next visit. And since I had already payed for the groupon we ended up still using it. But I will most likely not be going back there again.

Unfortunately, I will not go back here again. The location is fantastic, the scenery beautiful overlooking the boats in the marina, the staff is friendly, but the food is TERRIBLE! Salty, greasy, inedible really. Both the corn beef hash and the pastrami were so salty you couldn't eat it. The turkey burger was dry and tasteless, even their signature killer shrimp omelet was horrible... the shrimp tasted old and the home fries were so greasy they were pooled in oil. Even on a half off Groupon, it wasn't worth it. Silly me. I bought 2 of them so this was not just an isolated bad food experience. Never again.

I was convinced to go to Killer Cafe by the Facebook pictures of the food. Everything looked tasty and they bragged about the hash browns. My sister was in town from Vegas and stated that she had not been to the Marina in a while ......and we were both starving! We get there, waited about 15 mins for our table, which was not bad for a Saturday. We were seated at the table and the waitress, who had a slight attitude, took our drink order. I should have requested extra chocolate in my hot chocolate like my sister because it tasted like hot milk. When my food came to the table: Scrambled eggs, Pancakes, Hash Browns and Sausage... The only hot item on my plate were the hash browns! The pancakes were not only cold, they were tough! My sister ordered the Shrimp Eggs Benedict that also came with hash browns. Again all of her food was cold except for the hash browns. The shrimp in the eggs benedict were NOT clean. When we called the waitress over to let her know our food was cold, she turned her nose up and rolled her eyes because were complaining. Well of course we are complaining about our COLD food that is supposed to be HOT!!! I kept my food because I was hungry! The waitress took my sister's food back and offered to warm her food on the broiler. She brought back her plate warm, but again the food was not hot. While getting her warmed plate and cold food, the family next to us had ALL of their food delivered STEAMING HOT!!!! The waitress ends up making up an excuse for the cooks stating that the reason why her food was cold was because the eggs would crack on her dish. Now her excuse for my food being cold? NOPE, she did not have one! The manager took my sister's meal off the bill and she got a sandwich to go. I took half my food home. The sausage were ok heated up, but the RUBBER CAKES were a lot WORSE the next day!!!!!!!! Please consider these comments and previous ones about the service and the cold food before visiting Killer Cafe!

Having been to Killer Shrimp next door many times and absolutely loving the food the wife and I decided to try Killer Café, and were we underwhelmed! The place was packed and noisy so we decided to sit at the bar to avoid a 30 minute wait for a table, I ordered the French Dip and the wife picked Killer Eggs Benedict, the presentation was good but that's about the end of the compliments section, food was moderately warm as best, and when the best part of your breakfast plate is the hash browns there is something wrong in the kitchen. Even the Groupon $10 for $20 worth of food deal really didn't make it worth trying again. Killer shrimp has dishes that you can't really get anyplace else and until Killer Café can come up with a signature dish that is hot when served in an environment where you can hear the person next to you talking there is nothing special here and not really worth checking out. There are many more places that do breakfast, or brunch much better. Service was fine, just nothing special.

The Killer Café was awesome. I was taken here for a late breakfast and was seated outside. Totally awesome view and the chorizo, bacon and sausage egg scrambler was orgasmic. The only con was that when we walked in, there was no greeter and we kind of had to walk half way in to be greeted by the server who said, "Sit anywhere you like". Do I sit in a chair or do I sit on a customer's lap? Decisions, decisions!

Wow, what a disappointment! I'm sorry to say the 1* is for location and sad to say nothing else would live up to even your lowest expectations., This was my families annual birthday brunch celebrating my 69th and our going to pick out our Xmas tree day. What a way to start the day with sub par food and lackadasikal service. My eggs benedict had some sort of grey meat that was supposed to be ham, the sauce was not fresh nor chef produced and the muffin was soggy. My daughter ordered the shrimp and grits, took one look at the shrimp and noticed they had not been cleaned, pushed the dish away after taking one bite of the cold grits. Oh, and her side of fruit was never served. My son-in-law ordered the killer shrimp breakfast burrito - again shrimp not cleaned, tails on and in some cases partial shells... a couple bites and he was done. The pancakes ordered for 2 toddlers were ok - although the additional $3 charge for 3 cut up strawberries with stems still intact seemed a tad excessive. Here's what was slightly amusing... when our waiter Kevn returned with our check, he asked "everything ok here folks?" He was so not interested in our response that it took him a moment to realize that we had responded, "actually NO, most of what came out of the kitchen was unedible." His response " Oh, they don't clean the shrimp for breakfast, only for dinner." I can only assume they figure folks are too sleepy to notice.

This place has the absolute best organic breakfast available! I ate here two mornings in a row. The service was amazing, and food was worth continuing to eat here. I will be visiting this place on every future trip to the LA area.

I would like to update this review to let people know that I spoke with one of the owners/managers who was very apologetic about the experience we had on Sunday. He was very nice, and asked that we come back and let him know when we are coming so they can make up for the horrible experience. I added stars for that, since they are so concerned about people's experiences at their restaurants, which can't be said for most restaurants out here! Kudos to Brett!!

Just plain isn't tasty! The food lacks seasoning and the service lacks well, service. The concept of a lot of their dishes sounds very good, such as the shrimp and grits which are so bland that I had to get my travel hot sauce out of the car. Yes, I carry my own hot sauce, usually to enhance my food rather than hide the flavor or lack thereof. It was also literally cold to the touch. I sent it back and they made me another one that had less shrimp and the shrimp were now cut in half, versus the first dish which had whole shrimp. I hadn't eaten any shrimp off of the first one! How petty! The crab benedict is another dish that looks good on paper but lacks flavor. A friend had the chicken caesar salad, which looks beyond delicious but the chicken was dry and bland. One positive was the biscuits and gravy. Very tasty and full of flavor. So many other breakfast spots in the Marina, which make it quite difficult to return. I doubt that I will.

great patio seating with decent food. beware it closes at 3pm and make sure you don't park at killer shrimp or you will have to walk all the way around the building and since there is no sidewalk it essentially feels like you are playing in traffic.

Kitchen is crazy slow for breakfast. Our waitress was very nice and did her best to keep us in the loop about slow kitchen but then the food was just warm not hot, person next to us actually had a cold meal, they sent it back. We were in no hurry but I was ready to get out of there as soon as I was done. Had a Groupon that made the meal relatively cheap but I do not expect to go back. Just not the experience I was looking for and I'm not that picky.

went to lunch here yesterday, at 1 pm good time to get a seat. the staff always accommodating. friendly waitress, quick service, we were seated next to the manager who was having lunch. really really nice guy, friendly conversation, we ordered our meal my wife lox and bagel sandwich, came with plenty of lox, cucumber, tomato onion and nicely toasted bagel. value was great I ordered eggs, and corn beef hash, with extra egg and bagel. the platter was absolutely the best, eggs scrambled medium as requested on top of a large pile of corn beef hash frewsh and crisp, and a bountiful order of nicely crisped hash browns, I asked for chili flakes and pepper and got both, love the food, love the management, love the service thanks again for another great experience.

I've been to Killer cafe three times and each time had great service! Awesome hot coffee, my cup did not run low, I love the hash browns which are like super crispy potato cakes with the softer stuff in the middle. Havent had the home fries. Huevos rancheros, blueberry french toast and salmon benedict were all good. Salmon Benedict was my favorite. Maybe they need an upgraded system for keeping the food hot... that it the one thing I noticed could use improvement. The waiter with the beard has always been super nice. See if you can go on a weekday.

I bought a Groupon that said valid only for Mon - Thu. I didn't notice, so fair enough, my bad. They wouldn't even let me use the paid-for value over the weekend though, which I thought was really lame. Lost a customer and gained bad reviews on Facebook and Yelp. I wonder if it's worth if for the $12.

I've been coming here on avg once a week since July. The food has gotten steadily better. Spinach Benedict, scrambles w parmesean, breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich are all fab. Toast comes with nice condiments. Coffee is good. Atmosphere is awesome. One thing that annoys me is that my potato order has been messed up lately. I don't like the hash browns cuz they are super thick - the other choice is home fries. I do like the home fries and often get them, but for some reason every server seems to want me to eat that hashbrown. I just always get it. Good bacon, too. Super casual, airey - so dress appropriate for the outside weather.

4/12/13: Update I decided to try this location again, because I love Killer Shrimp. Arrived close to 11:30 on a Thursday. Place was pretty empty, patio approximately 50% full. No Hostess this time. One man behind the counter seating. He mentioned I could seat myself on the patio. 5 mins went by, no service. No menu, no coffee, no hello.. Yes, the waitress saw me, serviced the table right next to me. I waited, i watched her bring the table next to me their check and I tried to flag her down again. No eye contact. Tried again with a busboy, I watched him walk over to the waitress. she brought the table next to me their processed credit card. Still No service. Close t 14 mins had passed. i saw the busboy grab a menu to bring to me but at that point I decided to leave. The one man behind the counter apologized and said the waitress was still in training. I still left because he didn't have anyone he was waiting on and could have brought me ... something.. I officially give up.. 7/11/2012: This review is strictly for the Service. I was excited that the place was finally open. I recently moved back to the MDR 1. Arrived at 1:00 closes at 2:00 2. No one greeted me at the front desk. Three persons standing there talking 3. Sat myself at the breakfast bar that seats approximately 15 people. It was pretty much empty with the exception of 3 people that appeared to be regulars of Kilter Shrimp. 4. 8 mins passed, no menu, no coffee, no hello. Watched 3 waitresses grab coffee from right in front of me and served the regulars empty cups and others at the booths. 5. Walked over to front desk and asked for a menu. 7. Breakfast bar still empty with the exception of the regulars 3 stools to my right. 8. 13 mins later. Finally asked by a male waiter if I wanted coffee. 9. Watched 3 waiters and what appeared to be a manager because he was handing out paychecks have idle chatter at the other end of the breakfast bar. 10. Restaurant wasn't full. 3 indoor booths completed their breakfast, outside patio had content patrons. 11. Pulled out magazine. Finally placed order 23 mins into my experience. 12. The hostess tried to be nice to make up for her coworkers shortcomings. 13. Food arrived promptly. I sat right in front and had an excellent view of the efficient and effective kitchen. The chef ran the kitchen like a 5 star restaurant. ONLY REASON WHY I DIDNT LEAVE. The Eggs Benedict was perfect 14. However, my coffee cup remained empty for the next 10 mins while the regulars to my right had 3 waiters catering to their every need. They even asked tons of questions about the killer shrimp baseball caps before a waiter finally brought one out. 15. While waiting for a refill, my second Eggs Benedict got cold and my appetite was completely killed. I also watched another Manager.. Female this time, only address the regulars. 16. I gave up and begged for my check. I even watched an employee off her shift get better service than me to my left while waiting for my check. 17. Bill came, no apologies, nothing... I was so glad I had cash. First time in life I chose not to leave a tip and pray it's the last. I've lived/worked all over the US and World and this was THE WORST SERVICE EVER. I'm so proud of myself for keeping my cool and saving my words for this review.

I heard great things. Lobster Mac and cheese was good everything else was fair. Server discouraged items, and said if ordered they do not take back. Also SMS of cigarettes was overwhelming. Too many good test restaurants in this area to waste your time here!!!!

Hard one, the food was pretty good. The hash browns were definitely better than the breakfast potatoes. The pancakes were really tasty. The portions are definitely generous. The table was big and roomy which was nice. It wasn't crowded and a server arrived promptly. The problem was she messed up our order; left some things off, then brought us the wrong check. She was sweet as pie, but a little dingy.

This is hands down one of the best breakfasts in all of Los Angeles. Amazing service, food and atmosphere!! Sitting outside on the patio amongst the boats and sparkling water is unbeatable. I ordered the juevos rancheros which I have had at numerous restaurants and this was by far the best. Had perfect amount of spice and a very generous portion. We were in a large group and everyone at the table agreed it was the best breakfast in town. And having plenty of free parking is a perk. The management knows what they are doing!!!

First YELP review ever. Just want to save others an irritating experience. Lukewarm coffee, the guy at the table next to me sent his latte to get microwaved. Ordered eggs Benedict, restaurant was not very busy and it took 25 min. When finally the busboy brought our order since the waitress was nowhere to be found and it was not hot either. They don't even toast the English muffin with a thin piece of ham. There were even weeds growing on the patio, this place sucks! This place needs a manager.
