This place is great! I always get the mixed bowl with comes with several kinds of fish atop rice with the garlic soy sauce. The fish is always fresh and for the price you get a good sized portion. The service is always great, super friendly staff. I don't tend to dine in but when I do, they are attentive and fast.

If you're looking for good, affordable sushi, this is it! Tried this place for the first time 2 weeks ago and I ended up coming back a few days later. It was that good! I had the Mixed Bowl the first time and then made my own Five Item Bowl the second time. The sashimi was soo fresh and layed on a bed of sushi rice (so good.. has this concept always been around and how come no one has ever told me??). If you're a garlic fan, ask them to marinade the sashimi in a garlic sauce, yummm.

This restaurant is consistent with having quality fish and a really cool staff. I often try to have different fish or rolls here but my favorite is the Sashimi Salad. Soooooo delicious. I compliment the Owner for having integrity in quality food. Everything on the menu is great.

Went here two times on our holiday in Weho - very good sushi and very nice and welcoming waiters. Nothing more to say than to go here if you want quality food and and nice atmosphere.

Murakami Sushi is no longer a tiny hole-in-the wall restaurant, but it still offers inexpensive sushi and sashimi. The new location is bigger, but the parking situation is total madness. However, there's plenty of free street parking on N Formosa Ave/Clinton St and N Detroit St/Clinton St. Just make sure you leave before 8pm. After 8pm if you don't mind walking, there's free street parking less than a block away. I always order Bowl Number Five: Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, crab and shrimp over rice with 2 different seaweeds. It is a MUST that you try their garlic soy sauce! I wish they still kept the salad and sushi roll combo. The staff members are very polite and friendly. The prices can't be beat.

I really like the build your own chirashi bowl concept! I got the 5 item option for $15 with salmon, albacore, yellowtail, avocado, and tamago (egg). I asked for garlic soy sauce on the side, which turned out to be a good move because it's very garlicky and on the salty side, so I just needed a little bit. You can get plain steamed white rice if you don't like sushi rice. While on the pricey side, I'd come back, except maybe not anytime soon because parking is a nightmare. There aren't that many metered spots (I was lucky to nab one after circling for 15 minutes), and the neighborhood streets do not allow parking past 8 pm. They do offer valet for $6 though.

The chirashi bowls here are seriously the best. Every ingredient is so fresh and delicious. The portion size is perfect too. Delicious food is accompanied with amazing service~

Excellent. Just excellent. A place this good, that's the only way to put it. This is my kind of sushi place. Not trendy, not overly complicated, just simple, fresh, high-quality sushi. The service was very friendly, and did I mention the sushi was simple and fresh? I just plain cannot imagine being disappointed here. This was one of the first meals we had on our vacation, and for the rest of the trip my girlfriend compared every other meal to this place, and every other meal came up short. Well done, Murakami.

I loved this place the first 10+ times I went, but this past visit may be my last. Service and food quality has declined significantly. We were there last Saturday, we arrived around 9 and waited a bit for a table. While we were waiting, we asked for a glass of water. One of the servers looked at us, and said "we don't do that." Im sorry, but you can't give me a glass of water? Then, we had been waiting for 30 minutes and a few tables opened up. They didn't clean them for a while so we had to wait longer. I asked someone how much longer it would be, and she barked back "10 minutes!" And I was mid-sentence asking her something else, and she stormed off into the kitchen. On top of this, the past two times I've visited I've gotten really sick throughout the night/the next day. Murakami, I used to love you...what happened?

OMG! I dare anyone not to become addicted to their "sushi bowls". I had two friends order them for a party and I've been the converted ever since. From $13 for four items to $19 for seven items you can create your own bowl of fish over delicious sushi rice. They of course have a full sushi menu, appetizers, salads and such but it's the bowls that have me returning with friends. Learn from my mistake with the hours. They close from 2:30 to 5:30 and more than once I've forgotten and arrived at the restaurant disappointed. The weekend is super, super busy so be patient but it is SO worth the wait. Parking on Melrose is the only challenge so pay attention to parking signs, trust me.

It was my first time at this place, and I got takeout based on the great reviews. And it would otherwise been ok, but holy crap...I'm no novice to sushi, and I like my wasabi...but they're either using some nuclear version of it, or they put it in between the grains of rice like grout. I couldn't see a whole lot of it, but the sushi was burning every last part of my sinuses. I'm guessing this is just an aberration, but it really took away from the experience. The fish itself is decent, but not anything outstanding. I'm not sure if I would try this place out again, but on the plus side, their prices are good for what it is.

This is my go to sushi spot whether I am getting take out or sitting for a nice meal with friends. The sushi bowl is absolutely delicious and fresh. The decor and vibe of the restaurant make the experience all the more enjoyable.

good service... fixed an err on an order asking for no tuna without a fuss and rather quickly! I enjoyed my Hamachi Kama very much. I also was pleased they had anago, as I prefer that over unagi any day. My least favorite was the cucumber wrapped no rice roll. Although refreshing because it was sans rice, the fish itself was just alright. However, I think the highlight of this establishment is their chirashi bowl option, which I am open to returning to try ... I give this place a thumbs up overall, but another thumb in waiting for my next visit.

High-quality. The toro was elite. The amaebi was exquisite. They didn't have uni that day unfortunately. I'll just have to go back! Cons: The server gave me a strange, negative vibe. I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
(4)
Sable P.
The sushi was amazing and the service was great! Most sushi placed I have been to only offer a pre set chirashi bowl; here you get to chose how many pieces of fish you would like and which kind. Definitely recommend it!
(5)
Gabriela C.
This place is phenomenal! Highly recommend anything with scallops, they were the highlight of their number seven chirashi bowl.

Love this place... Always think they forget to charge me cuz it is so reasonably priced!

Danny R.
This place is definitely my favorite sushi place right now. If you like sashimi then this place is for you, if you enjoy rolls then this post is useless for you because I only get the 7 item bowl. Very fresh and decently priced for the quality you get.
(5)
Jessie M.
It really is a great deal and perfect lunch or light dinner. For $15 got miso soup and a 4 item combo with yellowtail, salmon, ikura, and spicy tuna. The bowls also come with ginger, wasabi, seaweed, and radish. The fish was surprisingly good quality. It won't change your life or anything but I can guarantee if we had one in Silverlake I would quickly become a regular.

Tiffany W.
I looove the chirashi bowls here. The sashimi is so fresh and the prices are more than reasonable. They have a variety of options, but the best way to go is build your own chirashi bowl! I like to put spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, crab, and scallop. Mmm. This place is perfect for a nice sunny day. We've also gotten the uni (by self), and it is so fresh. The service here is also very good. The waitresses were all so nice and attentive, even though we were the only ones sitting outside. There is an outdoor patio in the front, and it is so nice to eat their fresh sushi while enjoying the sun outside. Tip for dog owners: DOG FRIENDLY! 2 paws up!

I don't know if we just went on a bad day, but my best friend, sister, and I were pretty disappointed. We ordered the chicken teriyaki plate, yellowtail with jalapeños, omg roll, salmon and avocado roll, California roll with spicy tuna on top, spicy tuna roll, and a salmon handroll (for me) I'll start with what I actually really liked: the omg roll. Shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on top, but for $14 dollars I've definitely had way better rolls The yellowtail was alright The salmon hand roll was good but very little salmon inside which was really annoying. The spicy tuna roll was good. The salmon and avocado roll was really bad. It didn't taste fresh at all which really disappointed me. Chicken teriyaki plate was eh. We've had better. Customer service was good Food was definitely not what we were expecting. I'm sad I didn't like this place...especially because it has 4.5 stars on yelp.

The is. Probably the best sushi I've had it since I moved to LA. The restaurant is not very big so I suggest getting a reservation. The sushi rolls are fresh and beautifully displayed. super great value. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend

Sushi bowls/chirashi is what this place specialises in - as well as the pre-set sushi bowl combos, I love the fact that you can create your own sushi bowl for a set price per number of items ($14 for four items for instance). Simple and easy - I would come back here again for my custom-built chirashi fix!
(4)

Phenomenal chirashi spot in LA. The number SIX is crazy good -- super fresh and clean fish, great service. Would dine here every night if I could.

Excellent fish. Very good prices. Friendly service. The sushi is great here but I REALLY love the sushi bowls. My favs: The Sunshine Bowl: salmon, crab & avocado ($12) The Number Seven: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, crab, shrimp, eel, avocado, scallop ($18) You need to be hungry if you order the Number Seven - sooo much tasty fish. You can also make your own bowl (but they have so many great combinations on the menu I have not strayed into making my own yet). They have sake and beer (and I think a couple of wines).

Good sushi, decent prices. They offer garlic soy sauce. There's a Winchell's Doughnut and Baskin Robbins next door.

When we first walked in, we knew it would be excellent based on the other customers. Our first impression proved to be spot-on! The sushi was terrific & incredibly fresh. Everything from the craftsmanship of the rolls to quality ingredients made this a "must revisit" sushi spot!

This place is really awesome! great food with great service! Five stars! The servers are also fantastic and very accomodating. I ordered one of their bowls and was not disappointed. You can also tell that the fish they use for their sushi are fresh.

I love "Murakami Sushi concept". You can customize your own bowl here (or pick from a few pre-set bowls) for ~$12+. They offer a large variety of options and the sushi chefs aren't stingy with the sashimi. Despite what toppings you pick, the flavors all seem to meld together nicely. It must be the sushi rice! I recommend the scallop (which is mixed with mayo and masago) and spicy tuna. Also, the garlic soy sauce is a MUST. Think Papa John's garlic butter meets Kikkoman! Just make sure you have some breath mints or gum handy for after your meal. Dog friendly outdoor seating available. Bring Fido! Great food. Great service. Great value. Stop by!

The place has really good sushi and it is a good alternative when I don't feel to go to my #1option. it is not fancy but it does the work. I believe that prices has gone up this year but can't tell cause I always order a lot of food.

I created my own bowl and it was delicious! Very good sushi for a quick bite. The only thing I didn't like about this place was the Hot Saki...it tasted really bad!
(5)

Best sushi, and so convenient! Everything is fresh, and the staff is so sweet! We are treated like celebs when we go into dine! Make sure you get there before 7:15, or you might have to wait for a table. That's their busiest time!

OMG, L-O-V-E this place. Since discovering this place i have been here 4 times in the last month. I would go almost everyday if i had the time. The fish is very fresh & I love the fact that you can pick what you want to put in your chirashi bowl for a very reasonable price. The appetizers i tried were OK but nothing really stood out to me except maybe the shishito peppers. One of these days i want to try their black cod & chilean sea bass entrees but so hard to veer away from those crack chirashi bowls. My favorite chirashi combo is salmon, yellow tail, salmon eggs, eel & uni. Try it i know you will love it!!! You have to pay $5 extra for the uni but i think it is worth it. They give you a pretty decent portion of uni & for my 5 combo bowl with the upgrade it is still only a $20 bowl. I'm already planning on making this my to go meal for the Hollywood bowl next season cause it is right on the way up there!!!! P.S. one of the ladies working at the restaurant noticed we were celebrating my birthday one night & without even asking she brought out a complimentary scoop of green tea ice cream with a candle & shaped like a koala bear. It was yummy & very sweet of her.

I love the Make Your Own Chirashi Bowl Idea. The price is great too. I wouldn't say it was the best I ever had but it was pretty darn good! Called in for a reservation 2 hrs before on a Thursday. No wait, but it wasn't like the place was completely packed anyway. I just parked across the street next to the school. Will be back :)

Murakami is such a great spot for delicious and fast sushi. We probably only come here once a month or two but the staff always remembers us and is extremely welcoming. The decor is very plain but I find it a bit charming in this family owned restaurant. I usually opt for the build your own sushi bowl but one of the last times I was there the scallops were definitely not fresh. I've been a bit reluctant to order them since even though it was probably just a one time mishap. We will be long time customers anyway :)

I found this place through Yelp so decided to try it out last minute. Loved it! I wasn't too hungry so didn't get to try much, but what I did try was very good. Yellowtail sashimi was good. They gave nice cuts and many pieces. My boyfriend and I also tried the soft shell crab roll because he's a guy and every freakin guy seems to love soft shell crab. I am not the biggest fan. It was tasty but not my favorite. I ordered the Baked Crab Hand Roll and it was soooo good!!! If I can eat just one of these everyday for the rest of my life, I wouldn't ask for anything more. I am very excited to come back here and try more when I have a bigger appetite next time! Good job!

I've tried this restaurant both at its original Hollywood location and it's new West Hollywood location and can whole-heartedly say: I was completely UNDERWHELMED!! They specialize in chirashi bowls, but there's nothing special about them. You can order their pre-made bowls or make your own, the prices for dinner being $12 for 4 item, $14 for 5 item, $16 for 6 item, and $18 for a 7 item bowl. It sounds like a decent deal at first (for the area), so I ordered a four item bowl with tuna, salmon, white fish (wait, what? there's no name for it??), and eel. I requested no rice, but greens instead. When my dish came out, the $12 price tag made sense. The pathetically small pieces of fish were thinly sliced and I received exactly two pieces of each fish and one piece of eel. I didn't find the fish to be particularly fresh. I also tried the green bean gomae (overpriced) and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño sauce which tasted...fishy. The service was okay. They charge $1 for hot green tea. Boo for $6 valet parking. Probably will never be back.

I still love Murakami, but let's be honest: I preferred the old location. It had character. The fact that it was in an old, rundown space surrounded by pretty much nothing else of interest, looked like a bakery had a baby with a cafeteria, and yet managed to churn out super fresh, cheap chirashi bowls, was a huge draw. And perhaps most importantly, it allowed them to keep their prices extremely low. But I was talking with my waitress and she said the old building was literally falling down and they were forced to vacate. So it is what is is. This new location is trendier. It's an restaurant you could take a date to without your date thinking you were a weirdo. The menu's bigger. The space is airy. Everyone's friendly. It's, you know, it's West Hollywood. And the draw, the fish, is just as good! I did a make-your-own: salmon, hamachi, mackerel, scallops with masago, and the taste was the same as ever: just really simple, fresh, clean, and perfectly proportioned. I love a good chirashi bowl like nothing else in this world. I crave it singularly. And they make a good one. Old price was $8.50; it's $12 now. Not a screaming deal anymore, but reasonable enough for the area. I'm still a fan, but part of me mourns for the old Wilcox permutation.

LOVEEEEEE! So affordable! I came here on a Sunday evening. I made a reservation but we would've been seated immediately even if I didn't. I ordered the number five ($14)- tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, crab, shrimp. I could've done without the crab and something else instead, but everything else was delicious! My friend ordered the mixed sushi bowl and she really liked that one as well. I really wanted to get the uni but for $5 extra, I thought it was a little steep. Maybe I'll get it next time. The rice was delicious, service is good. I was lucky and found meter parking. I can't wait to come back!

I know I'm about to make myself sound entirely naive but this was actually my first chirashi bowl experience to date and definitely not my last... loved it!! SOLD to the crazy brunette craving fresh raw fish! I opted for the 5 item (w/ spicy tuna, salmon, tomago, scallop & fresh crab) DIY chirashi bowl (as did my brother) and we were both entirely stoked about the freshness, the cuts, the vegetables, even the sushi rice was nice and sticky (and topped with some chopped nori too!), and last but not least, the all encompassing yumminess that is their garlic soy sauce (as many others reviews mention, since it truly is the vehicle that ties everything together, so yum). Flavor profiles heading everywhere, taste buds were singing! From the daikon to the wasabi & the pickled ginger to the cucumbers & jalapeno, we were delighted. Honestly, I'm already looking forward to going back! Service was friendly, uber quick too if you, like us, have a show to get to. We also tried the OMG roll (based on so many mentions here) and that too was delicious. I do think a little more could be done with the decor since walking in I was a little surprised to see how empty/bland the walls were but then again, the fish speaks for itself and after getting my bowl, whatever was or wasn't on the walls meant nothing to me anyhow lol. Just saying. They may want to spruce the place up a bit in order to snag more passerbys, but then again, maybe that would be bad for me ;) Loved it regardless, give 'em a whirl (especially if you're local & can walk... parking's a bit of a challenge, though still worth it).

Best albacore and eel I've ever had. Wow. If you want a traditional sushi place like Hiko but less expensive, look no further than Murakami.

Amanda M.
Great place for lunch and dinner. The fish is really fresh and they have great sashimi bowls, where you pick whatever fish you want in your bowl. It is pretty affordable with bowls ranging from $13-20, depending on how many items you get. I love the spicy albacore, spicy tuna, salmon and scallop. I also recommend getting the garlic ponzu sauce for a nice kick to your bowl. Everything is super quick, from rolls to hot dishes to appetizers, but my favorite is definitely the Chirashi bowls. The decor and restaurant is small and intimate and very casual as well but the service is great and the quality is top notch. Check out our pictures of Murakami on Instagram- @thefoodie411

a great authentic sushi bar was so needed in the neighborhood and Murakami definitely fits the bill. Food is fresh, affordable and done just right. the sushi, especially the uni and spicy trio bowl were mouthwatering excellent. my husband thought his bowl was comforting and reminded him of the bowls he ate while snowboarding on the Niseko ski slopes in Hokkaido Japan. Nino was our sushi chef. he was super nice and quick with our orders. We live in the neighborhood and will definitely be back. Its legit!!!!

Had dinner here with my girlfriend last night. Came right before they reopened for dinner so it was completely empty. We were greeted and seated quickly. My girlfriend told me their sushi bowls were really good so I got the mixed sushi bowl which was $14. Came with sashimi, shrimp, cucumbers, yellowtail, ginger on top of sushi rice. Tasted very fresh and delicious! They even gave us extra ginger since I love this stuff! Located right on Melrose. We were able to find meter parking right around the corner by Bucatta. Service was quick to get our food although they did not check up on us for refills or anything. Overall, I would come back again.

Chirashi bowls for days. Mixed bowl is a good intro to chirashi and a solid deal. Black cod and shrimp/vegetable tempura also solid. Neighborhood gem. Must call at least 3+ hours in advance for reservations.

Best sushi in town. I've been coming since the hollywood location and I have never been disappointed. I always have their signature dish; it's too good to be true (make your own bowl). Love this place with all my heart.

bowls of incredibly fresh tasty fish, for a "way cheaper than I expected" price. Good service. No wait. I like this place. Also, word of advice to fellow diners: a chirashi bowl is sashimi over white rice. If you do not want rice (b/c you're on "a new diet" or you "don't do gluten"), do not order a bowl. Also, do not ask the waiter for a bowl without rice. It's shameful and people will laugh at you.

Sindia B.
The food is delicious but the service is not the best. The place is packed on a Tuesday and most patrons are Asians so you know it's gotta be good! The OMG roll was amazing. The fish is fresh. It's an authentic sushi spot.

This place is my go-to spot for chirashi bowl!! I've been going to this place ever since they were located in Hollywood. I really love the new location, it's much more spacious and nicer. They also updated their menu because now they have a real kitchen, which means they can make cooked food (tempura, salmon skin roll and baked scallop). The only downside is the parking situation, which is kinda hard because it's located on the busy Melrose ave. Everything is fresh and super good. Price is pretty reasonable and they give you quite a lot for the bowl. Also, don't forget to ask for the garlic soy sauce on the side. You won't regret it!

This is me and my wife's favorite sushi places. We drop by here on my Friday's off. Always get the Pick 4 sashimi bowls. Always ask for the Garlic Lovers on the side. The fish is very fresh and service is great!

Officially my new favorite Japanese restaurant in LA. Bomb.com customized chirashi bowls. The fish is so fresh and the staff are very attentive and sweet. I'll be making many more trips back to Murakami!

I used to go to the Hollywood location regularly when it was only blocks away and was sad when they closed...as in, where will I go to eat this kind of quality sushi for the price in Hollywood? Thankfully, they reopened on Melrose and I cannot be happier. There is simply nothing around that compares to both the quality, taste and value for what you get here. Also, for the one or two people who had so-so experiences, you really shouldn't come here if you are going to order anything other than the chirashi rice bowls. While I'm sure their rolls and other dishes are good, the bowls are their speciality and it will not disappoint! My favorite is the 4 item bowl: 2 orders of salmon, 1 scallop, 1 tamago (egg) with garlic soy sauce and spicy mayo on the side. These two sauces will add flavor and moisture to your dish. I have always found street parking around the area - and while it might be a block or few to walk over (if you want to avoid paying the valet), it's TOTALLY worth it. Poinsetta always has street parking - also if you go south on either side of the streets perpendicular to Melrose, there is FREE 2 hour parking on the street two blocks south of Melrose, just fyi.

I went here with a group of 7 last night, and ordered a chirashi bowl. I got Yellowtail, salmon eggs, veggie mix, and tuna in mine. We also ordered a deep fried soft shell crab, hot sake, and toro nigiri. Everything was fresh and the toro was delightful. They took care in the arrangement of our bowls, and they were super cute. Our server was very attentive. For the price especially, this place is a fantastic deal.

One of the best sushi bars I've been to. My suggestion is their bowls with your selection of raw fishes. Oysters also were so fresh and yummy. I don't give it 5 stars only because I've had better sushi rolls. Service is great and fast. Very respectful crew. I will definitely be back. They have a valet parking so don't stress about finding street parking

The fish was really fresh and tasty! They have really reasonable prices too. My boyfriend and I were in LA for the day and we wanted sushi, but we had no idea where to go. We will be back for sure when we are in the area. Just a tip, the miso soup was alright, not super flavorful but not bland. The cucumber salad and the green tea were just okay. The sushi hit the spot though!

Gotta love the "build your own" chirashi bowl. The fish is fresh and the rice is done just right. I order chirashi at most sushi restaurants and the price here is reasonable. The service here is very attentive. I also really enjoyed the agedashi tofu. Soooo good! Ask for their garlic soy sauce. I put that shit on everything.

Great to see Murakami still in biz but at a new location. Love that they now have a full sushi bar. Same yummy high-quality product!

So fresh and yummy! This is the only good and inexpensive sushi restaurant in the area, and I'm so happy to have found a sushi place I like. Although prices are affordable, it does not take away from the quality of the fish. Sashimi and sushi are delicious and are not dyed or frozen like other cheaper sushi spots. The bowls are always a win. Love the cucumber seaweed salad, and the mushroom miso soup. Great staff and service.

Read all the great reviews, called to place an order and was told "the owner says not right now" and was then hung up on. Upon calling back no one answered. As a member of the service industry I understand nights can get busy. But you cant pick and choose when you want to give service.

This is the absolute BEST sushi spot in town. It's the total package - friendly employees, delicious sushi, fun atmosphere. I absolutely love everything about it. Their chirashi bowls are a weekly staple for our household now. You can create your own, and it's so damn delicious. The ingredients are so fresh and exceptional. I wanted to keep this place a secret when I first discovered it, but I want this place to receive the love and business it deserves! Check it out, you won't regret it.

Always fresh and consistent. Cant go wrong with a bowl and their rolls are solid too! Murakami roll is beautiful and delicious. Alcohol is also very reasonable. Highly recommended!

I was not impressed by the food I ordered, which may have not been the best choice after noticing other reviews. I was expecting it to be a great for a 4.5 star average, but I was let down. At first, the water was not filtered. I always like a restaurant with good water and I feel like it reflects quality of the restaurant. I also ordered a crab or lobster appetizer and it was way too salty for my liking. Then, the main dish was beef or steak teriyaki with brocoli and rice. The meat was actually really good, but I felt like I could have made it at home and I wanted something more spectacular. Lastly, the place is new and I did not like the decor. I think it could use some work. Overall, I would not come here again. I have had better for cheaper.

Favorite Sushi place in LA. I like to get the sashimi bowl and ask for it on lettuce instead of rice. The rolls are delicious and fresh and the waitstaff is friendly. It's also inexpensive for sushi.

In total fairness, they had just opened this location in Melrose when I went there and they might have improved. (went there 6 months ago) That being said, I was not impressed. Neither by the food, not by the service.

Got the 4 piece chirashi bowl with uni, yellowtail, white fish (what fish was that?) and scallops. The sushi rice was really lovely and the uni was definitely creamy, though a bit grainy in certain parts. I shared this with my hubby who got the toro pickles hand roll, salmon skin cut rolls which were both mediocre at best. Stick to the chirashi bowls!

The sushi was fresh, the service was fast, and they had a unique spin on sushi and had sushi bowls on their menu. You can create your own or pick a combination they already have. I have just had amazing sushi as of late. But this is a good place to eat as well as a menu with decent prices.

Alright, my top 3 list has now changed. Murakami is the new #1 for me. Followed by opening night at Sugarfish with Chef Nozawa prepping the sushi, then in third Haru. All three are exceptional, but this is what put Murakami over the top: The toro, salmon and scallop were all three the best I have ever had. The oyster shooter and seaweed salad with incredible miso dressing - both the best I have ever had. And the chirashi bowl (I'm like the reviewer before me, it was my first time having that after 15 years of eating sushi) - they crushed it. So good it needed no sauce for me. And to put the cherry on top, the sushi was prepared by the owner, who I spent my meal at the sushi bar talking to, and he is a mad genius. Sam, the server, top notch as well. All the way around amazing. This one is a must go in my opinion.

Build your own chirashi bowls! What an awesome concept! Everything is fresh and the prices are reasonable. Appetizers I've tried so far are the cucumber salad & shishito peppers and both were muy delicioso! Today was my second time going in and one of the staff remembered my friend and I from last week... that of course is a plus! They don't have a parking lot so you would need to find street parking or pay a few bucks and valet! I will definitely be a frequent customer.. possibly once or twice a week since I love fish esp sushi! Btw, don't forget to ask for their garlic soy sauce!!

I went to Murakami last night after reading the mostly good Yelp reviews, and perhaps it was an off night, but both I and my friend were unimpressed with what we ordered. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls we started with were bland, no spice to the tuna and not much flavor to the salmon. We then ordered the soft shell crab and shrimp tempura rolls, and it was pretty much the same. The crab was decent, but the shrimp was too undersized in the roll to offset the blandness of the spicy tuna that was set on top. Neither of us will return as there are many other sushi restaurants with better tasting fish, at better prices.

Its really 3.5 stars for me. Its good fresh fish, the rolls are nothing to jump up at but the sashimi tasted fresh and the salmon melts in your mouth. Not my favorite place but its def. worth another try for the bowls when I am in the area.

Ordered the chicken chiragi, and yellowtail collar for appetizer which were both good. Also had the 5 piece sashimi bowl. Everything was reasonably priced. The place feels very modern and minimal. It's clean, and staffs were also friendly.

Wow! Called to place a take-out order (which I have done before) and they turned me down saying they are too busy for a take-out order at this time. Too busy for someone to give you money and pick up food. It's actually less work than if I went in. wow....

I've lived in Japan, visited the famous Tsukiji Fish Market at 5am, and tried sushi all over America; and -- after eating here several times now -- I can safely say that Murakami serves some of the best sushi in the world. It's not cheap, but I have very high standards for sushi restaurants and this one is outstanding. They specialize in chirashi bowls, meaning very plain sashimi on rice with nothing hidden behind sauce like at many sushi restaurants. This preparation method brings out the true taste of the fish, so it's obvious that they use only the very highest quality ingredients at Murakami. We stop by here whenever we're in the area, and I always get the seven item bowl since there are so many excellent choices to throw in. Very highly recommended!

Deliciousssss! The best sushi around beside Ajisai in WeHo. The fish is always super fresh. I always get the chirashi bowls & some appetizers. The staff is always so friendly and provide great service! I really love going here, and am so glad it's so close!

I expected this place to be good. I wasn't disappointed. What is better than the food is the service. My son ordered the chicken karage. When the server arrived to set the dish in front of my 4 year old, one of the pieces of chicken slipped off the plate onto the table. We quickly scooped it back up and the server apologized. A few minutes later the server returned with a small dish and two extra pieces of chicken on it. Very thoughtful. The sushi rice is perfect and that is hard to get right. Definitely put this place on your must try list.

Loved the bowls - I built my own with spicy tuna, shrimp, eel and avocado. It was all really great and fresh. The spicy tuna was pretty fantastic! I loved mixing everything together, it combined a lot of flavors in a way that wasn't overpowering. There were a few "favorite bowls" with three toppings for $12. It is also $12 to build your own with 4 toppings. Not sure what that's about since the toppings in the favorite bowls are not more expensive and the bowl itself is the same size. Why not just get 4 toppings for the same price? Overall, i'd definitely come back...and soon!

Thank you!!! Thank you for reappearing!! Murakami Sushi used to be located in the middle of Hollywood and one day it was gone. My heart was broken. Then one day I saw that they reopened off Melrose. It made me a believer in the man upstairs. Okay, enough dramatics. Murakami Sushi is my favorite little sushi joint in LA. Being Japanese and being extremely picky about which Japanese establishment I enter, Murakami sushi being my favorite says a lot. This place is Japanese owned and the staff is also Japanese. YES!!!!! The old location was tiny and didn't have a sushi bar. The new location is beautiful with a few outdoor seating options, sushi bar and regular indoor seating. Another difference, they sell booze!! Beer, sake and wine. The food was wonderful. The fish was fresh, the rolls were perfect and they even had cooked dishes like hamachi-kama (yellowtail cheek). My favorite guy Michi always takes great care of us. Michi informed us that they were booted out of the old location with very little notice and had to rush to find a new home. This new location is much easier to get to, 2 snaps up!

Murakami Sushi is easily one of the best sushi restaurants on the Westside of LA. First of all, this is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. The entire staff is Japanese. (IE: You will not see a Latino guy with zero sushi training preparing your sushi behind the bar like so many sushi restaurants in LA these days). The fish is extremely fresh and wonderfully prepared by chefs that are obviously masters in their craft. The staff is courteous, attentive and fun. I would say the restaurant has a nice minimalist chic vibe that is perfect for Melrose Blvd. The prices are also extremely reasonable considering the quality and preparation of the fish. Two thumbs up! Way up!

Came in at 2 on a Sunday afternoon... Seated quickly and friendly servicel. It was delicious and I love how you can create your own Chirashi bowl...but I felt that the portion could have been a little bigger for the price. $14 for a bowl with double salmon, yellowtail and avocado and only 3 pieces of everything. I did love the side green salad though and the garlic soy sauce was to die for!!! Overall a hit

Lightning fast service, friendly staff, and good sushi. We had 3 California hand rolls, a spicy tuna hand roll, a garlic albacore hand roll and 2 veggie rolls. We had all our rolls sans rice. Also had 2 hot green teas. Food was good, though neither large in quantity or cheap in price. Presentation was well above average. We were out the door for $43 and change plus tip (7 hand-rolls and 2 teas). Minus a star for price and the fact that the hand roll seaweed was very tough. However, it was a very good experience and I would definitely recommend. Very solid 4+ stars.

Seriously ?!? Ive done almost all sushi of this town and we all know that Sushi restaurants are not the warmest service wise. Its often rushed, fake smiles, fake everything... I play the game but I dont know its so rare to create bonds wih their customers for them. Anyways I arrived by 8.30pm, ordered, the food was good but the price way over the top compared to same level sushi on 3rd or Melrose. No decor, thats ok, but nothing specific either. Tables in the middle of the way make u feel VERY uncomfortable and after ordering 2-3 rolls by 10pm noone told us LAST CALL they simply threw the check. Wasnt done ! Was still hungry... and who closes when ur still in the middle of ur meal. I asked them to "wait", so i can order desert or else.... "NO... WE CLOSING". Wow !!!! The invoice was over the top for average rolls. Its a NEVER AGAIN.

This place is a hidden gem. It is authentic, fresh, and has great customer service. The guys making your sushi are Japanese and know what they're doing. I took my friend who grew up in Tokyo and she was so impressed with the food. We both ordered Chirashi bowls (which I highly recommend). You really can't go wrong with any of them because the seafood is SO FRESH. You can eat like a queen for just $13. This really has become one of my favorite Japanese spots in the city. I will be back again and again and again for my weekly sushi fix.

Murakami is steal when it comes to quality sushi, all fit snugly into one of their signature 'bowls'. Their sushi rice is on par and their custom bowls give you an exponential amount of choices of sashimi to choose from. The salmon is buttery smooth and tender while the unagi is a burst of refined flavor. So if you're ever in melrose wondering where you want to eat at, make sure to hit up murakami for some sophisticated sushi.

Very good quality sushi at reasonable prices! -4 item sushi bowl with spicy salmon, spicy tuna, mixed veggies, and scallops. Def get the garlic soy sauce with this dish! It added so much flavor! Be sure to have GUM handy because you will need it to counter all that garlicky goodness -Salmon Sashimi: what's there not to love about buttery salmon? Fresh and cut very nicely.

Murakami is my favorite local sushi spot, always very prompt with my take out orders, are always fresh and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. I usually tend to get the california roll but the eel and tuna rolls are also good too, I am grateful that the seafood never looses its quality even for pickup orders and I've never had any issues ordering from them. One thing that is unfortunate is that its located on melrose and parking is not that great, so that is the reason why I usually order to go.

BEST SUSHI IN HOLLYWOOD. AFFORDABLE TOO! YAY soooo glad Murakami is up and running again!! My fav hollywood sushi place, now in a fancy space with a sushi bar, full alcohol bar, and more extensive menu! The sushi is as fresh as ever and the service is impeccable as always. DRANKS: Woo hoo! No longer have to BYOB! -Nigiri- Only slightly sweet, cloudy and sooo delicious. STARTERS: -Hamachi- with jalapeno and ponzu is delicious and reffreshing. -Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna- Good. Comes only with two. -Miso Soup- Comes in a mug and is very falvorful. SUSHI: The TORO: is among the best I have had. Uni: Fresh and delicious Other suhsi: Salmon, Albacore, tuna.. really can't go wrong. My friend who hates salmon has converted after eating it here. Ask for the salmon belly, it is delicious! The Octopus: Too chewy :( But when she heard we didnt like it, she didn't charge us. Which was totally not expected, but really kind. I'll definitely be coming here again and again. Its closer to my home and work now too! Woo hoo!

Hip, cozy spot with great chirashi bowls! The 4 item sushi for 12 dollars is a very good meal! I don't see how you could even finish it. The sashimi and sushi is also big portions and about average cost. You can tell it's very authentic and there's a lot of effort put into presentation. The atmosphere is really relaxed and there's even a nice porch area available. The one criticism I do have for it is that parking is a mess there (as it is everywhere on melrose) after 8PM. Valet costs 6 bucks and they basically just park your car at the donut shop next door. Pro tip: Always ask for the free garlic sauce on your bowl -- amazing!

I always get some sort of sushi combo bowl (with garlic soy! Don't forget!). I liked their old location so much better! I think their prices have gone up, and the food isn't as tasty. Parking here is terrible. I almost left after driving around for 12 minutes. I patronized the old location many times, but I'm afraid I'll never be back here, again.

Totally decent sushi joint. That they specialize in chirashi bowls is pretty brilliant. Love that you can essentially build your own chirashi (sushi topped with assorted sashimi, garnishes, etc). Price point is about what you'd expect, around $20 person. Worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.

You have to get the sushi bowl! You have the option of ordering one of their sushi bowls, or you can create your own from a list of ingredients.I love being able to customize my meals! The exterior and interior of this place are BEAUTIFUL! One of the first things I saw was the big flame they use to heat the outside area. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and sat very quickly. Our waiter was very friendly and prompt. We ordered, and received our food pretty quickly. The food was delicious! We got an appetizer, I can't remember what it is called. It was a whole crispy yellowtail, though. I created my own sushi bowl with steamed rice, mixed veggies, shrimp, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna. Overall a great experience, I will definitely like to go here again.

I hate writing this review, however, I am not new to Murakami, have eaten at the restaurant atleast 3 times, and last night was the second time I got take out. It was just NOT good and we did not try anything new besides the cucumber salad which I could have made myself at home. The soft shell crab cut roll was not fresh, the spicy tuna cut roll tasted weird, we got two salmon skin hand rolls that smelt SO FISHY. My boyfriend ate his and after seeing him choke it down I could not even try. It is really disappointing considering it was very expensive. I should have called right away but we figured we would try to eat it since everything we got was almost $60. Sorry, wont be back unfortunately.

I'm so glad Murakami is back!! I was a huge fan of their old location and am more than happy for them for being able to move onto Melrose at a larger location. The new location is really nice! It's about four times larger, has a sushi bar, and a quaint outdoor seating area. My usual order: four-item bowl--two servings of scallop, one crab, and one seaweed. Add some garlic soy sauce on the side, and I'm all set! My favorite thing about Murakami is how fresh all of their ingredients are. No imitation crab here! This is my go-to payday lunch date with my coworkers (about $15 with tip per person, no drink), but despite the price increase, I can't help but look forward to the next time I'll be back.

As an avid lover of Chirashi, I was super excited to try this place. They let you design your own bowl by picking which fish to include - it's an awesome concept. However, despite the great concept, this was probably one of the least satisfying chirashi bowls I've ever gotten (and I've gotten a lot.) The fish quality was pretty good, but it seems like they cut the pieces of sashimi smaller than at most restaurants. I got the 7 item bowl and felt unsatisfied with the amount I received of each item - especially the unagi. Who knew I would get just 1 piece? On top of the less than impressive food, the service also leaves something to be desired. We had tried to go once in the past and actually walked out because the waitstaff was rude to us while we were waiting for a table. This second time we called ahead of time to see if there was a long wait....we called 4 times and let the phone ring until it hung up on us - no one ever picked up. We went despite the phone fiasco, and while no one was rude this time, no one was was friendly either. In my opinion this place is a big fat MEH.

walking distance sake and sushi/chirashi? yes please. we walked in both times with a very short wait. everyone there is really nice and the fish was of good quality (not the stringy kind) and decent portions considering it's so affordable! ($15 for a bowl!)- if you're looking for a fast and super casual meal in the neighborhood, this is it.

beautiful sushi bowls and gracious service!! however, the miso soup was extremely unappetizing even before discovering a large hair in the cup.

AHHHHHHHH! So happy it hurts. Murakami left their last location a few months ago and I've spent the last few months trying to find a better chirashi bowl in Los Angeles. Spoiler alert: it doesn't exist. Today was their first day in their new location (which is stunning!!!!), and they're still brilliantly on point with their food, and the service is lovely. It was great seeing the same staff from the old location, and they were so happy to see us (and other returning customers). The menu is still the same: simple, but amazing. You can make your own bowl (my favorite) or do one of the pre-set bowls. They have rolls and such, as well, but their bowls are my favorite and I never steer away from them. The quality of food here is unbelievable, and you can't beat the price. Did I mention I love this place? I just love this place way too much.

It was my first time at Murakami Sushi. For those who want a short review - the restaurant seemed clean, the fish and veggies fresh, good quality. Do not overdose on the wasabi! It is delicious but has a lot of heat, so I would go slow with it first. The ginger was good and the sushi bowls we had also delicious. The sashimi salad was simple with not much sashimi. The bowls and salad would not be enough individually unless you're a lighter eater. The deep fried eggplant appetizer I will not recommend and want to stop you from ordering it unless you like chunky eggplant heated through and softened in the fryer. Oh, it was $7 to valet park tonight (Monday), and I do want to return. For a longer review: I turned onto Melrose from La Brea and didn't see the restaurant, so I decided to park and then find the restaurant on foot. I just happened to be passing the residential street Alta Vista, so that is where I parked for free. (For those who end up parking on Alta Vista, one side of the road is parking until 12a.m. and the other available until 8p.m.) The restaurant is not very big, and there is seating both inside and outside. We ordered two sushi bowls - a Mixed bowl and a select your own 4 items bowl. I chose salmon, salmon roe, mixed vegetables and uni for my 4 item bowl. I don't always enjoy uni, so I asked the waitress to advise me on the condition of the uni, and she went to the bar and asked to see the uni. She told me the color and form looked good, so I trusted her and did not regret it. The uni was delicious! My mixed vegetables consisted of seaweed, pickled radish, avocado, asparagus, and cucumbers - all fresh/crisp/crunchy. I will most likely order the create my own bowl the next time I dine at Murakami. The sashimi salad is a bed of mixed greens, some slices of quartered tomatoes, a few radish sprouts and a ring of sashimi around the vegetables. The creamy, semi-sweet dressing was lightly drizzled over the dish, and if you like to have dressing with each bite of salad, I recommend you ask for extra dressing. The size of the salad was a good accompaniment to the sushi bowls. The deep fried eggplant appetizer was chunks of japanese eggplant deep fried until softened and then glazed with a sauce I can't really remember. Perhaps a sweetened soy sauce flavor (based on my memory of the glaze color)? I only had one bite and did not want to eat any more of it. The eggplant is juicy but not crispy and the sauce itself was obviously not memorable. Overall, yes I do recommend this place for friends, dates, families or co-workers. The atmosphere was comfortable and the servers were friendly - I do recommend you view the menu before coming (somewhat limited). I will be returning to the restaurant to try the rolls next time I am near La Brea and Melrose.

The new location is very nice. They have a full kitchen now so the menu has expanded which is great. The food is still top notch and prices remain mostly the same. There is also beer and wine! There is a proper sushi bar now and outdoor seating too. Great new space for great sushi.

One of my favorite sushi spots in LA. I was SO SAD when I thought their Hollywood location closed down forever but when I learned of their new location, I was so excited!!! Their new spot is a lot bigger and looks so modern and clean. Customer service is still excellent and the food...the food is AMAZING. Their sushi is fresh and just melts in your mouth. Portions are generous here. I usually get the mixed bowl with extra garlic soy sauce on the side!! It's delicious, wonderfully prepared, and looks too pretty to eat when you first get it. You can tell they really pride themselves in preparation and quality. I love coming here but my only complaint is....PARKING! But what can you do? It's LA right? Metered parking is available throughout the day but make sure your meters don't run out or else you'll have a ticket waiting for you when you come back cuz those parking police are not messing around!

We live right around the corner and noticed the good reviews on Yelp. Since Christmas, we have been to this restaurant 5 times. Service is friendly, the sashimi is fresh, and, surprisingly, the chicken and beef teriyaki are excellent. Best Japanese restaurant in the area.

I came here based on a Tasting Table suggestion. We had a couple of their, what was described by TT as, "hefty hand rolls". What came out were two miserly "rice rolls". I think my scallop one had about a tablespoon of fish and the rest was rice. The flavor was just ok... nothing that set it apart from a typical sushi place. Cute space and nice staff but small portions and just average flavor.

The service was great and I'm especially happy that they have gluten-free soy sauce! I just gave it four stars because of the gluten-free soy sauce, but I would've given it three otherwise because it was very crowded, stuffy, there was no decor or warm vibe, there is nowhere to wait when seating isn't yet available, and it took too long to get our food. Otherwise, the food tasted good. The ginger, the fish, and the avocado were extremely fresh and delicious. My boyfriend won't stop gushing about how remarkable the ginger was. :)

I am from New York and I have had my fair share of good sushi and I have to say that I was not disappointed. The sushi was very good and the service was exceptional. The waitress we had was very pleasing and our food was made extremely quickly, even though we ordered a lot. I think though that the portion sizes were too small for my liking and for the price, but it was definately a good choice. I would come back here again.

As I am always on the lookout for new restaurants and/or new food items (I still love burrata, bored a bit by kale, and tira misu has never been new), I decided to check out the Chirashi Bowl. Admittedly, my first thought was a version of a taco bowl, same ingredients but served in a bowl. I discovered that in some ways I was correct. Chirashi is a selection of 4, 5 or 6 pieces of sashimi sitting atop sushi rice, with pickled ginger, some pickled veggies and wasabi. I was early for dinner and sat at the sushi bar where I choose my 6 different sashimi and added avocado (I've lived in LA so long I can put avocado on anything). First, the presentation in a big bowl was impressive and I was happy with the selection of fish (I should be, I picked the fish). Secondly, although there was a lot of fish and rice, the price was less than an individual order and I was quite full when I almost finished my bowl. (I was not requesting another bowl of porridge after finishing off this baby), my only negative is I prefer sushi over sashimi and it was sort of a mess to dig up the sushi rice, place the fish on the rice, dip this concoction with a piece of avocado or ginger into the GF soy sauce they provided me when I walked in (how did they know?), and manuver into my mouth. Definitely worth trying, but I will stick to my favorite sushi bar.

I'm not usually fond of trying out new sushi spots because getting fresh seafood especially during dinner time is always a gamble but this place definitely gets 5 stars from me. Not only was the sushi bar chef extremely friendly, he also recommended the garlic soy sauce to us which gave our bowls an extra flavor. Most employees wouldn't go beyond what people usually order. Sushi was fresh but I believe they can add a little more than what they give. I normally don't finish my food but I definitely finished this one so it was really good and I surprisingly didn't get bored of it. I recommend making your own sushi bowl to your own liking!

Delighted that Murakami found a bigger, new establishment. I was ecstatic finding out they've reopened and even closer to my home than before. This is my go-to for a light fix of Japanese. The #5 Chirashi Bowl is my usual! :) One of the lady-waiters even remembered us and said it was great to see us again after a long time; I thought that was great!

I gotta admit, their bowls are pretty damn delicious and the prices are very reasonable. Albeit, the bowls were smaller than I thought it would be. My one and only HUGE gripe about this place was that parking. There is a lot next door but its only for the stores within that plaza. There were only about four metered parking within blocks of each other. What I found pretty ridiculous was that some of the metered parking in front were passenger loading only zones after 6 or 7pm. WTF?! Nonsense. We ended up valeting next door at Bugatta for seven dollars.

great place to grab a chirashi bowl if you are in the melrose area! i was fine, but i can see how guys might think the portions are a bit small and not enough rice. however, the fish was super fresh! along with our custom bowls, we got veggie tempuras & miso eggplant app (hmm, perhaps that is why i was satisfied). the tempura coating was pretty standard, but the eggplants were sweet and savory, delicious. one thing i have to disagree with other reviews is that folks mentioned ordering "garlic sauce" on the side. it's actually taiwanese sauce that is reduced down, thick sweet garlic sauce. after tasting it, i asked the waitress how am i suppose incorporate the sauce with chirashi, she said, she doesn't know, but westerners really seemed to like it. i actually regret tasting the sauce b/c it left very strong sweet garlic aftertaste in my mouth and had to chew 2 gums to get rid of it. if you love chirashi b/c of the simple balance of rice, sashimi, wasabi & soy sauce, i would say skip the garlic sauce, and save it for either fried or spicy food. p.s. so happy that they got the temperature of rice right (not many places do) - yay!

THRILLED that my fav sushi in LA is back. Is it a little further from me now? Sure. But I don't care, as long as I have murakami in my life. Xoxo

Yes! Murakami is back. How I missed you Number FIVE bowl. My wife couldn't stop dreaming about your Sashimi Roll - the best in town. Make sure to get the garlic soy sauce on the side!!

Good location. Good food. Great staff especially Chef Kenshi! Chef Kenshi alone is all the reason to go.

Great Sushi. I would suggest their chirashi bowls. Great service

Great Place. True Japanese.

I don't write many reviews but Murakami is totally worth it! Basically the best sushi spot in Los Angeles that isn't going to break your bank. The fish is always fresh and the severs are always nice! Make your own bowl and split a tempura appetizer! You won't be disappointed!

Parking and the small portion is the only reason for the 3 star rating. The chirashi bowls here are legit...but I had to have a 4th meal after having dinner at Murakami. The fish, although very fresh, was sliced really thin the day that I dined here. I was looking at the Yelp pics and they look a lot larger...but then again the camera does add 10lbs right?

Murakami is great for authentic sushi made by real Japanese people. The price point is really good. We ordered a take out "omakase" platter for 4, with a mix of nigiri and maki and the sushi chef did an excellent job. For less than $25 ea we even had left overs. The rice was perfect and the fish was very fresh.

Let me start with a warning: I'm a little biased because this is the only sushi place in walking distance from my house. But I love it. My roommate and I have been coming here once a week for a quick baked crab handroll (served in soy paper, just like at Katsuya) and crispy rice with spicy tuna. It isn't the cheapest place on the planet, but i'm almost always willing to spend a couple extra dollars for fresh fish. The chirashi bowls are also excellent and are surprisingly big in terms of portion. Probably the most economically efficient way to eat here, but sometimes I have to opt for the a la cart menu. Murakami staff is always attentive, they serve beer and sake, which is great, and they even have a shaded outdoor patio where you can enjoy your sushi al fresco, if you feel so inclined. I will continue to come here and hopefully will refrain from having a meal more than once a week here so that I can work for more than just sushi (although who am I kidding, I'd rather eat sushi than spend my money on anything else).

We tried Murakami a couple of months ago and have been going back ever since. The service is wonderful, the fish so fresh and the bowls great! It is a great neighborhood place to walk to and enjoy a great meal! Can't wait to go back

Truly the best, and freshest Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. Murakami's omakase truly showcases his experience at Matsuhisa.

Good service, relaxing atmosphere and most importantly, the sushi and sashimi is fresh and delicious. They also have tasty monkfish liver and oysters, which helps change things up when you want to try something new. This might just be my favorite sushi place in LA and that says a lot because I love sushi.
This place has stupid great fish. I love how they give you the option to choose whatever fish you want in your chirashi and the staff are always so friendly. Two thumbs up!

This is one of my FAVORITE sushi spots. The bowls are delicious- pick a few fish, a veggie or two & voila. Heaven. The garlic soy sauce is a must- I swear there's crack in it. The house dressing on the side salad is also ridiculously delicious. Great little date night spot. So happy they found a new home to reopen in!

I give this place 5 stars simply because for the price you pay you get very high quality fish. My family owns a seafood distribution company and i have been my fair share of sushi restaurants from Sushi Gen to Sushi Ikko in costa mesa and this is definitely right around the same quality!! The Yellow Tail Sashimi is only 12$?!?!?! and I swear its almost as good as their Toro!! Well Trust me if you appreciate good fish come here!! Im about to go get my grub super hard at Murakami!!!

Went for lunch and got the customize your own bowl. I got the 7 items with Salmon, Albacore, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, scallop, mixed veggies and mixed seaweed. The bowl looked small but there was a lot of food. I just wished they gave more than 3 or bigger pieces of the salmon and albacore. Overall, the place is a nice spot for lunch except for parking. Most likely will come back and try other things!

This place is fantastic! I've only ever gotten the bowls here and every time the fish is so fresh and delicious. The price is also amazing, considering the variety of fish you can get in one bowl. Service is excellent and the it's in a great location, good for walking after a meal. Only issue is the parking, but really that is any place on Melrose. Definitely recommend this gem!

Their chirashi bowl is the best! we had dinner here twice during our short stay in LA. Service is great as well, our waiter (an Asian guy) was very nice and energetic.

A real surprise, at first when u see the place u are confuse and u tell yourself "why do i read the comments on yelp?" But then you order, the waitress was so nice, the chef is nice too.. and the food, the fish tender, the rice great, the carpaccio amazing dressing.. it was a really nice diner with my hubby

Sat at the bar with my daughter (8) and had a #16 sashimi bowl and Agadasshi tofu. They were both wonderful, fresh, carefully prepared and satisfying. Beautifully clean, simple and white decor, and cool jazz makes this a very classy place without the high class price. Can't wait to come back.

I didn't think the bowls were that great. Good size but you pay for it for $15, I think. Service is prompt and so was the food though.

I was a little hesitant coming here for sushi because it appeared the majority only get sashimi bowls. Needless to say, I went out on a whim and glad I tried it. The staff is friendly, the fish is great quality and the price is very reasonable. This is now my favorite sushi place in my neighborhood.
(5)

the chirashi bowl was ok. Their cooked food was better. If you are not from the area I wouldn't come all the way here but if you are local I might consider it. Read the details of the other yelp reviews.

So last night instead of staying home and possibly failing at making dinner (long day), my friend and I decided to go out and find some simple sushi and ended up finding the reviews at this place to be rather best out of the rest in the neighborhood. After parking around the corner, we strolled up and where welcomed into an already filled restaurant (but not grossly packed - just busy) by being seated right away at the bar. The layout was inviting and simple and the waiters and chefs were very friendly and quick to get our drink orders, though they didn't rush our orders for food (which is nice from time to time). Since we weren't looking to grub like stoners, we both ordered 2 items each - I ordered the Dragon & Philly rolls (cut) and she ordered their CA roll and tried out their "Sushi Bowl" which is an interesting concept (as I haven't seen it in any other sushi establishment). The Dragon roll was nice, though I requested some hot sauce and was given such with some eel sauce (chef recommended to combine the 2 with the dragon roll). That was good and all, but the reason I'm giving this review 4 stars instead of 5 was that the Philly roll was quite dry and the flavor was a bit meh. Soy sauce, eel sauce and the hot sauce couldn't save the lack in flavor it had and the dryness of the rolls. The preparation of my orders were nice and looked delicious, but the lacking on the Philly roll was a bummer. My friend enjoyed both of her orders and liked the amount of fish in the Sushi Bowl, but the seemed a tad undecided on the quantity of rice at the bottom (could just her preference - but I like rice). The staff were talkative and seemingly genuine and helped keep the energy in the place alive and well, so I may return when I get a good payday. Great spot for a quick idea at 9pm.

Wow. This is hands down the best place to have sushi in Southern California. I've been going out of my way to go to a place in the valley that I loved for years, then a few weeks ago a friend took me to this place and the chef and wait staff just killed it! Amazing experience and the sad thing is most of the people eating there don't relize just how special this place is. It's rare to find a sushi chef so well trained and disciplined. I can't wait to go back! My only recommendation is to take the ordering out of your hands and do "omakase" leaving it up to the chef.

This place takes 2nd fiddle to Sassabune but the fish quality is excellent and is half the price of Sassabune. I would highly recommend the fish bowls that you can add any fish you want to. The service is quick and usually not a wait to get in.

Still excellent. Chirashi bowls are still great. Was so happy they re-opened that I ordered extra nigiri (uni, mackerel and yellowtail)...all wonderful. The new neighborhood is a lot nicer and the restaurant is much larger and you can now see the chefs! I am just so happy they are back!!!

I am a sushi fanatic to say the least. I live in Weho and I think most of the sushi places here are overrated. My favorite in Weho is Wa but it is expensive and not a place I can go regularly so I was looking for a "joint". Murakami is the place! They have the tastiest, freshest fish rivaling anyplace I've been in L.A. Not only that but the restaurant itself is very pleasant and the owner is lovely. He really takes pride in what he does. We mostly ordered sashimi and the Toro is off the charts! All I can say is put it on your list and go. Unpretentious, reasonably priced, great sushi. Parking is street and a little annoying so plan ahead.

I'm so happy my boyfriend and I came here!! Such an amazing surprise, you walk in and you're immediately calmed by the lighting(if you visit at night) it has a sort of an amber tone. The host and waitress are super sweet! Oh and the best part the sushi is soooo fresh the soft shell crab roll???? Stooooop makes you want to do a dance at the table;I promise! Awesome awesome awesome!! Definitely our new sushi place!:)

I'm in heaven. Enough said. I worked in a high end sushi restaurant and japanese is one of my favorites. This place is my new spot for sushi in LA. Good quality and unbelievable prices. I love that I can create my own bowl depending on my cravings. Simple, less is more.

Parking can be a very painful situation for everyone involved, but the food more than makes up for it. The chirashi bowls are so good -- I usually build my own and I've never been disappointed with what I've ordered. I don't think I agree with people about the steep prices or that there isn't much food, I've always left stuffed.

This place is amazing to say the least. My boyfriend and I ate here for a friends birthday dinner. I was very pleased with the food and service here. The staff was very KIND & HELPFUL we did not have any problems with our orders & we did not have to wait long at all. It was delicious!! I am not a big sushi fan so I ordered their teriyaki chicken plate. It was delicious & a good amount for the price!! My boyfriend however ordered sushi and said it was very fresh! We also tried their shishito peppers and omg they were bomb! OH & make sure to get a side of their garlic soy sauce with that. I definitely recommend this place, I know my boyfriend and I will be back here!!

My favorite sushi place in LA. Even when compared with a way pricier Yamashiro I can't say that sashimi at Murakami is worse. Maybe the pieces are a little smaller but the taste my opinion is richer. Definitely recommend to all sushi lovers!

The new location is beautiful! I highly recommend the make your own bowl option. Prices are a steal, service is fantastic, cleanliness is great, and best of all amazing sashimi! The salmon melts in your mouth. This is one of the only places I eat sushi in LA, top notch at a great price. Definitely recommend for those who are looking for authentic sushi! Also, they provide gluten free soy sauce on request!

they don't have noodles which really bummed me out. but it's an okay place and reasonable prices.

So excited for this place to reopen! Really glad that they were able to find a new location and set up shop again. Been a huge fan for ages now, and am finally going to be able to get my sushi fix.

The bowls here are delicious, and they let you make your own, if whatever they offer isn't to your liking. Their quality of fish surpasses other sushi spots located around here. Despite the high prices, you should definitely make the trip to try it.

Reasonable prices, fresh fish, friendly staff. Their takeout is awesome and the bowls always hit the spot. The menu is reasonably extensive while still maintaining a focus on sushi. It's great!

So happy to find Murakami even closer to home than before. Not only is the food fresh, delicious and reasonably priced, but now the menu is extended and they have a liquor license. The fish is super fresh, the sushi rice a perfect consistency and the combinations are well balanced. The staff are also friendly and it has that "local" restaurant feel where they remember you and your fave. Never had a bad food/service experience there or even a mediocre one - always delightful in every way.

Delicious. Next time I come the Sushi Bowl is going to be the first thing I order. Top 3 Sushi in LA for me. Competes with the better Sushi I had while in Japan. If you are looking for good sushi in the area try this place out.

Been a fan of this place since the OG spot on Wilcox. In my opinion, this place gives you the best bang for your buck. If you're in need of a cheap and solid sushi fix, I highly recommend coming here. The fish quality is great and proportions are just right. I usually get the Mixed Bowl here. It comes with 4 types of Sashimi over a bed of rice and various types of edible garnish. You can also mix and match your fish/meat/veg options in your bowl. All of this will run you about $12-15. Last but not least, don't forget to try the Garlic Soy Sauce. You have to ask them for it, but it's worth it. Even Vampires ask for it. Quick Hitters: 1) GET THE GARLIC SOY SAUCE. 2) Great spot for a quick lunch. 3) Or a slow dinner. 4) Or a non threatening first date.

Much like that time I found my long lost cousins on Facebook, I am delighted that I found Murakami again. It used to be by a friend's house. Totally hole in the wall with KILLER sushi bowls. I was in love. A few weeks later, I drove out to dig into some fishy goodness and *SLAP* a closed for good sign. I may have cried. Don't judge me. Anyway, I was on Melrose the other day doing some errands and lo and behold, Murakami. I may have cried. Don't judge me. Later, I ordered my favorite bowl, the Zuke-don, and a few pieces of sushi while my friend got a couple of rolls and am happy to report that even though the space is bigger and more beautiful, the food is exactly as it used to be...killer.

I love fishes cause they're so delicious!! Less sodium!! More flavor!! Fresh and quality fish at a great value, what's not to love? It is a really small place with a smaller outdoor front patio. Think like maybe 10-15 tables inside, with a sushi bar and probably like 5 tables at the outdoor patio. It looks very minimalist. The restaurant is visible from the street as you are driving down Melrose, however it can be easily missed as it is a really small place and there are tons of restaurants surrounding it. The bathrooms are single stall bathrooms and pretty clean. Parking can be a pain because as far as we could tell they did not have their own lot. We did not want to park where the Winchells and Baskin Robbins was and the street residential non metered parking had signs on top of signs stating times where you couldn't park. Typical LA parking situation, make sure you read before you leave. Luckily we found meter parking with an hour left, so we dumped in 20 more minutes. We were greeted immediately upon entrance and seated and given menus. It was not too busy which surprised me. We ended up getting 3 bowls because my boyfriend was still hungry after finishing his first bowl. Our first two bowls were a build your own bowl with 5 items each. I got eel, yellowtail, spicy tuna, crab and salmon. My boyfriend got eel, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and white fish (halibut). My boyfriend got the garlic soy sauce with his and I stuck to it being plain. Less sodium. The fish was delicious and not fishy tasting at all! It was so soft and did not leave a gross aftertaste and it was not slimy. They use real crab, non of that imitation crab stuff. My favorites were probably the salmon and eel. The salmon was delicious and it just melted in my mouth. The eel was delicious but sadly they only give one piece. My boyfriends bowl tasted a bit better because he got the garlic soy sauce. Seriously, that stuff is awesome. It is so good, I mean the bowl by itself is really good and it's less sodium. However, the garlic soy sauce adds more flavor. The albacore was also really good but like I said, to me, the salmon and eel were the best. The second bowl we got was a mixed bowl and it was just as good as the first bowls. Mmm that garlic soy sauce. Service was very nice and attentive. We will definitely be back and look forward to the next visit. But to recap, garlic soy sauce! Get it, you will be thankful.

Had to go back a second time to confirm my review. STRONGLY RECOMMEND. At least if you like raw fish. I'm a huge fan of chirashi bowls at any sushi bar. So it's only natural that I rate a place where I can choose what I want in it so highly
(5)
Madz B.
Tried Murakami for the first time last night after passing it every day to and from work for the past year. It was so amazing. We got the yellowtail and albacore sashimi as well as the OMG Roll and the spicy tuna on crispy rice. The service was on point and the fish was so fresh and perfect. The yellowtail was especially delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone. The service was on point - everyone that worked there was so sweet. Also thanks for making me feel special on my birthday you guys! Can't wait to come back and give you my business! :)

Murakami Sushi, you are the definition of a perfect Saturday night date in LA. I absolutely adore you for this and will make this a weekly habit of mine now. While most have to deal with reservations and long wait times, me and my bf walked right on in on a Saturday night. I loved it. Sat by the bar to get all the action. Menu was straightforward and didn't have to sift through it at all since the main attraction was already on the front page- MAKE YOUR OWN CHIRASHI BOWL. These words together are a rarity to be spoken out loud so you can imagine my excitement. I did the choose 4- tuna, salmon, scallop, and avocado with garlic soy sauce. HOLY MOTHER OF CHIRASHI was this bowl mind bowling (pun intended). My dream has always been to choose my own shit to go in my chirashi bowl bc I'm so picky. Can't waittttt tooooo comeee back!!

Love this place. BEST bang for your buck for CUSTOMIZED chirashi bowls (Sushi on rice bowl). Ranging $12-18, depending on how many items? Get their garlic soy sauce. Meter parking, friendly staff. Cute small patio area. customize your bowl $12-$18!!! PS every time I've gotten "eel", I've only gotten ONE eel. So don't get it.

I ordered a custom bowl recently with uni and crab and all the works. Just want to say that if you're iffy on getting uni coz of the price, just get it. They gave me generous portions of it, I was really surprised. The crab flavor was strong and actually gave awesome flavor to the rest of the fish in my bowl. Their yellowtail green onion roll is good sized and very tasty. Everything is fresh as always and their portions are good sized. Service remains excellent in this place as stated in my previous review. I don't like the parking situation because that's probably want keeps me coming here less than I'd like.

I came here awhile ago when It was at the Hollywood location, which was way smaller. Glad they moved to a bigger location. Parking is street. Right in the heart of Melrose and all the shops. The inside is cozy and casual. A small outside seating as well. Menu is pretty simple. Chirashi bowls, sashimi and a few sushi's, salads and soups. They are mostly known for their chirashi bowl, which is a bowl of sushi rice and selections of fish on top. Kind of like Yoshinoya but a thousand times better. Okay that was a bad comparison but you get the idea of the rice bowl and fish on top :) On the left side of their menu is their chirashi bowls that are already picked. If you do not like some of the fish listed, like myself then on the right side they have a make your own chirashi bowl. There are a few price and item selections that range from $12-$18 ($5.00 extra charge for Uni). I also recommend asking for their garlic soy sauce, which just makes the dish that much better. _Make your own bowl of six items for $16. I usually always get the salmon sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, spicy tuna, avocado, scallops and spicy yellowtail. The rice portion is pretty big but one thing I wish the fish size was a bit big as well. I think they go a little stingy on the fish size. Especially when i ordered the spicy tuna and yellowtail it was the size of a small ice cream scoop. _O.M.G roll. The name says it all. It was indeed pretty O.M.G and in a good way! a little pricey but it's a shrimp tempura roll with asparagus and spicy tuna on top. It's also served a bit warm so that's a plus for me. _Sashimi Salad. Nothing spectacular. Just some greens with sashimi on top. The dressing was some sweet miso that was good but nothing that wowed me. I got this to avoid rice for the night, but I just recommend getting the bowl. I would definitely come back here again. I would be a complete regular if they gave more of a fair amount of fish but other than that the staff is always real friendly, helpful and overall great service!

Came here for dinner last night around 7:30 and got a seat right away. By 8 though there was a line forming for tables so try to get there earlier! I got the pick your own 4 bowl out of their list of about 20 things (Salmon, Albacore, Spicy Salmon and Mixed Greens). The mixed greens came with Avocado, sprouts and a couple other veggies and nice touch! The fish was super fresh and really tasty! The bowl came with Nori and was on a bed of rice (I did the option for it to be tossed in the garlic soy sauce). Will definitely come back again!

This place is really good. It's reasonably priced with big portions and good service. Everything is freshly prepared and the staff is very helpful and attentive. I like that this location has always been a sushi place and i hope this version is here to stay.

I really enjoyed my spicy trio Chirashi bowl. I didn't even know what a 'Chirashi' bowl was until I tried it here and I really loved it. FISH, was fresh and rice was done perfectly. Service was friendly and I see myself coming here over and over again. But, Word to the WISE.. Take out all of your Wasabi paste before chowing down; Because, it will end up balled up in the bottom of your bowl, camouflaged in the rice, only for you to ingest a swath of it and induce a burning sensation all through your nostrils, while you silently scream in Wasabi horror ! ! Or do do that and miraculously no more allergies! Anyway Enjoy!

Design your own chirashi bowls?! Oh yeah. I was pretty excited when I read about this. There are a few preset bowls to choose from too. I decided on one of these - the NUMBER SEVEN - because it has a lot of my faves: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, crab, shrimp, eel, avocado and scallop on a bed of sushi rice with cucumbers, nori and ginger. I added a MINI GREEN SALAD for extra. I do like the concept of being able to choose your toppings, but I've had better bowls. The pricing is moderate because the bowl itself isn't that large. And the fish that day was just okay. I came here for lunch during the week. It's a bit far from my office and parking in the area can be a pain so I don't think this will be a regular part of my lunchtime rotation. The service though was lovely.

Time and time again I come back to Mrakami and each visit is better than the one before. Needless to say, I have already sampled (pretty much) the whole menu, but among some of my favorites would be the Kanpachi, Albacore, Uni, and the Scallop Salt nigiri. Everything else is delicious as well, but these items speak to me. Probably because they are so incredibly fresh! Be sure to check out their sushi bowls, which are a great value lunch and dinner. So from service to sashimi, cold dishes to hot Miso Cod, Murakami is quickly becoming one of my favorite sushi spots. It will be yours too!
(4)
Vivian L.
Went there for lunch with friend. We ordered sashimi bowl and a rainbow roll , both were very good. We added uni for $5, it was worth it, very fresh and flavorful. But the restaurant only has street parking and was small and not well decorated. Definitely not a fancy restaurant but the food is legit.

Murakami Sushi is simply the best sushi restaurant in Atlanta right now. Appetizers were varied and delicious, especially the avocado salad and black cod misoyaki. Not much to say about the sushi except that everything was outstanding the quality of the seafood was amazing and the cuts were perfect. Personal favorites were the live scallop, otoro, Hamachi. Save some room for dessert and coffee(!) which were surprisingly good on a par with anything you would get at a fine dining restaurant. Murakami Sushi is a see and be seen spot right now, and the "clubby" atmosphere is a bit at odds with the food. It is also very expensive. While the prices are fully justified by the quality of the food, this is not your everyday sushi restaurant.

All I had one thing from here- Tofu bowl. Delicious. The place can be somewhat expensive but it is worth every now and then when craving for sushi.
(5)
Vadim d.
The sushi bowls are fantastic and decently priced as well. Their appetizers are just ok, except for the shashito peppers that are super tasty. The rub with their apps is that they are way too pricey for the portion size. But the peppers and the tempura are pretty good. I don't like pricing to effect my review, but I like to make a note of it when I think it's extreme either one way or another. The service is great. Fast and friendly. The little patio outside is perfect for small groups. Would definitely recommend this place and come here again.

I used to go to Murakami all the time when they were in Hollywood. They are just as good now at Melrose but it isn't quite the unbelievably cheap deal on fresh sashimi it was before. Still one of the best deals in town though. Back in Hollywood, Murakami rivaled Sushi Gen in DTLA for the best lunch deal on good sashimi. That was because they sold their mixed bowl at $11 vs. Sushi Gen's $15. Did it have as much variety of fish as Sushi Gen? Not quite but it was still a lot of sashimi over rice and of course it was fresh. Today, everything is bumped up in price by $1 or so, which is understandable given their new location Mid-City. ORDER: Apps - Agedashi Tofu: very fresh, medium firmness and tasty in the sauce they provide. - Chicken Karaage - good bite sized chunks of chicken, served hot and slightly juicy inside. Spray it with the lemon they provided for a nice pre-cursor to the mains. Mixed Bowl - tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail, and shrimp. You get about 2-3 pieces of each and while I'm never truly full from eating this bowl its more than enough to keep you satisfied for a lighter lunch. Number FIVE - you get everything in the Mixed Bowl plus shredded crab meat. I think the crab is fine but is an item I would considering subbing out for something else. Fortunately, Murakami allows you to build your own custom bowls! Mixed Sashimi Salad - if rice is not your thing this is basically the Mixed Bowl on a lot of leafy romaine lettuce and cucumbers. The Miso Vinaigrette is very good though. That sushi rice is really, really good. Which brings me to recommend: Tip: Don't make the mistake of ordering the Sashimi Special unless you're only a big fan of the Big 3 fish. It comes with two pieces of just Yellowtail, Salmon, and Tuna. No rice, no salad and at $12 you could have the Mixed Bowl or Sashimi Salad instead! Tip 2: You can ask for free garlic sauce on the side of each order. Murakami retains all of the charm it had from its previous location. Here you can still sit on the patio and observe the hustle and bustle of Melrose while enjoying very affordable, fresh sashimi and sushi. Great option for sushi lovers who don't want to trek to Little Tokyo for Sushi Gen.

The only reason I took off one star is for the high prices. Otherwise, this place has some of the best sushi we've ever had. The mackerel was melt in your mouth, buttery deliciousness. The unagi (eel) was amazing. The ikura (salmon eggs) were a clear red & tasted fresh. All the fish was fresh and delicious. The rolls were delicious. The service was good. If you have a large party, I don't know where they would accommodate you, as the main room is very small. There are a few tables outside on the street, perfect for people watching. Parking is difficult, especially at night when you can't park in the neighborhood nearby, but they have valet parking. If you have the money for great sushi, I highly recommend Murakami Sushi.

What caught my eye when I heard about this place is the make your own chirashi bowl. I love chirashi but don't often go that route because I never like all of the options included. Figured that this was the solution to my problem. I was not disappointed! We arrived at around 7 on a Thursday and were immediately seated. I had no trouble Finding street parking. There are about 15 options and you can chose between 4 (14$) and 8 (22$) different types of fish/ vegetables. My favorites were the salmon, albacore, and the garlic soy sauce I ordered on the side. Super garlicky but that's how I like it. Great service, fresh fish, and lots of options.

This place is perfect for those with strange cravings!!! The mix and match chirashi bowl is a great fit for anyone -no matter how picky a person is! Everything from uni to avacado can be put in the bowl. The side salads are also so large, I couldn't finish it all with my chirashi bowl. You can easily get a bowl and side salad for under $20. Even those who say they don't like sushi can find something to eat here. It's a good place to avoid lines if you don't mind having an atypical Sunday brunch! A Fast and friendly japanese staff never hurts either. There are also a few tables if you want to eat outside, but it gets loud pretty fast. Delicious!

Okay, I have to admit that I had never heard of Murakami until several months ago. And now that I know it exists, I don't know what I would do without it. There is something deeply comforting about their chirashi bowl, and it comes without the guilt of your typical soul food or the cost of the same dish at pretty much any other sushi place I've been to. 4 items for $13? Unheard of. Though I have had, and will continue to have, many branch-out moments on the food tour of life, I can definitely be a creature of habit when it comes to the types of fish and seafood I order. At Murakami I pretty much always choose some combination of salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, squid, whitefish, and albacore. And I have never been disappointed. It is always fresh, sliced perfectly, and well-complimented by the array of garnishes that are served with it over a bed of tasty, sticky sushi rice. With a side of ponzu, it is absolutely divine. The servers are friendly and attentive and the chefs at the bar are lovely and fun to watch. I have never had a problem getting a seat or a table no matter what time I arrive. Murakami is worth the hardship of finding parking in this extremely busy section of Melrose, and I plan to struggle through many times over to get to the delicious chirashi bowl at the end.

Murakami was on my radar as soon as I moved to the area. It then almost immediately closed down. Of course. Seems the building was falling apart or some such thing, But now they're back! The new Melrose location is very nice. Located on the memorable intersection of La Brea and Melrose, it fits in with the look of the other small, charming somewhat done up eateries on the block. It is, I hear, much more posh than its former self. Totally fine with dives myself, the new location and look is simple, clean and appreciated. A small outdoor dining area exists as well as the sushi bar and quite a few four tops to fill out the restaurant. As part of the move the prices have gone up a bit, but this is still a good buy. First off, I appreciate the focus on the chirashi bowl, right on the front of the menu. Secondly, BUILD YOUR OWN CHIRASHI BOWL is brilliant. It's kind of like the build your own sushi movement, but you're less likely to come up with something strange and then invariably blame yourself. Here you just get to pick all of your favorite things and they put them in a bowl and it is good. $14 netted me tuna, white fish, mackerel, eel and avocado. The food is fresh, simple and quite skillfully arranged as well. I was happy that mackerel was on the menu first of all and found it nice and meaty. The eel was lightly dressed with sauce (good) and they must have put half an avocado in there. I was incredibly happy with it. The service was quick and kind to boot. I will definitely return, likely with friends in tow.

First time having a chirashi bowl! I really like the concept of this place that has the options of creating your own chirashi bowls and also having other items on the menu to choose from such as nigiris, rolls, etc. My bf & I chose the 7 items chirashi bowls which he chose doubled of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and one item of albacore. I chose the set 7 items of chirashi bowl but swapped out the eel for spicy tuna instead. TIP: you must get the garlic soy sauce if you are an avid garlic lover! I got it on the side but you can also have them tossed the sauce with the sashimi slices in the bowl beforehand. The 7 items chirashi bowl cost $19 each which isn't bad because it comes with quite a good amount of sashimi slices of fish as well as sushi rice, two kinds of seaweed, pickled radishes, and wasabi & ginger too. It was a good amount of food to feel content with and fresh tasting too.

The best sushi I've had in a while. The 4 1/2 stars is what drew me in. Definitely worth the wait and every penny. Nom nom

I love the varieties of chirashi bowl, sushi and sashimi they have, as compared to other japanese mart. It has became one of my must-go place to visit at least once a week as my school is just nearby. Visit here for takeaway japanese bento box if you are craving for a quick meal for the day!

This is no authentic fancy sushi (see Hiko, Wa, or Jinpachi), but I gotta love a place that gives you a quality chirashi bowl that is served all day - most places only do it for lunch, and it's sometimes filled with scraps or fish you dont even want. More places should let you choose your fish to put in a perfect bowl. The service was great, and the prices are reasonable. Good work. Will be back.

Thank you Yelp! Stumbled upon this place on Melrose Blvd and loved it! Fish was very fresh, rolls great but not a deep selection and service excellent! Highly recommended for great sushi and a great bargain too.

Casa De Oro ..
Very delicious! Very fresh! Very awesome! Wish it was closer to home but if I am ever on the area, it's the place for sushi! Prices are decent, cute location, clean overall. We were very pleased with the quality of food & service was attentive & friendly! Thank you!!

I wish I only ordered the Spanish Mackerel sushi. It was melt in your mouth good. I love that they don't put a ton of rice with it. My husband was happy with his soft shell crab roll. The octopus roll was a bit chewy. The spicy tuna roll was great. All in all we would go bAck again. Oh and I love the amount of wasabi they put in the Sushi. Get used to it gringos.

Good sushi, I got a chirashi bowl and it was so good and to me, they give you a lot. Also the servers were all very sweet.

This place is great! I always get the mixed bowl with comes with several kinds of fish atop rice with the garlic soy sauce. The fish is always fresh and for the price you get a good sized portion. The service is always great, super friendly staff. I don't tend to dine in but when I do, they are attentive and fast.
(5)Madalena T.
(5)Anthony B.
This restaurant is consistent with having quality fish and a really cool staff. I often try to have different fish or rolls here but my favorite is the Sashimi Salad. Soooooo delicious. I compliment the Owner for having integrity in quality food. Everything on the menu is great.
(5)Jørgen Ø.
Went here two times on our holiday in Weho - very good sushi and very nice and welcoming waiters. Nothing more to say than to go here if you want quality food and and nice atmosphere.
(4)Natyra N.
(4)Clara K.
(4)Kelli J.
The chirashi bowls here are seriously the best. Every ingredient is so fresh and delicious. The portion size is perfect too. Delicious food is accompanied with amazing service~
(5)Michael P.
(5)Catherine L.
(2)Terri J D.
(5)Steve N.
(3)Lisa J.
This is my go to sushi spot whether I am getting take out or sitting for a nice meal with friends. The sushi bowl is absolutely delicious and fresh. The decor and vibe of the restaurant make the experience all the more enjoyable.
(5)Jane S.
good service... fixed an err on an order asking for no tuna without a fuss and rather quickly!
(4)Terry G.
High-quality. The toro was elite. The amaebi was exquisite. They didn't have uni that day unfortunately. I'll just have to go back! Cons: The server gave me a strange, negative vibe. I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
(4)Sable P.
The sushi was amazing and the service was great! Most sushi placed I have been to only offer a pre set chirashi bowl; here you get to chose how many pieces of fish you would like and which kind. Definitely recommend it!
(5)Gabriela C.
This place is phenomenal! Highly recommend anything with scallops, they were the highlight of their number seven chirashi bowl.
(5)Steven P.
Love this place... Always think they forget to charge me cuz it is so reasonably priced!
(4)Danny R.
This place is definitely my favorite sushi place right now. If you like sashimi then this place is for you, if you enjoy rolls then this post is useless for you because I only get the 7 item bowl. Very fresh and decently priced for the quality you get.
(5)Jessie M.
(5)Tiffany W.
2 paws up!
(4)Anahit G.
(2)Kyle K.
The is. Probably the best sushi I've had it since I moved to LA. The restaurant is not very big so I suggest getting a reservation. The sushi rolls are fresh and beautifully displayed. super great value. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend
(5)George N.
(4)Kenny T.
Phenomenal chirashi spot in LA. The number SIX is crazy good -- super fresh and clean fish, great service. Would dine here every night if I could.
(5)Scot E.
(4)John M.
Good sushi, decent prices. They offer garlic soy sauce. There's a Winchell's Doughnut and Baskin Robbins next door.
(4)Chase C.
When we first walked in, we knew it would be excellent based on the other customers. Our first impression proved to be spot-on! The sushi was terrific & incredibly fresh. Everything from the craftsmanship of the rolls to quality ingredients made this a "must revisit" sushi spot!
(5)Louise L.
This place is really awesome! great food with great service! Five stars! The servers are also fantastic and very accomodating. I ordered one of their bowls and was not disappointed. You can also tell that the fish they use for their sushi are fresh.
(5)Tiffany W.
Stop by!
(4)Luis G.
The place has really good sushi and it is a good alternative when I don't feel to go to my #1option. it is not fancy but it does the work. I believe that prices has gone up this year but can't tell cause I always order a lot of food.
(4)Edvin K.
I created my own bowl and it was delicious! Very good sushi for a quick bite. The only thing I didn't like about this place was the Hot Saki...it tasted really bad!
(5)Lynne S.
Best sushi, and so convenient! Everything is fresh, and the staff is so sweet! We are treated like celebs when we go into dine! Make sure you get there before 7:15, or you might have to wait for a table. That's their busiest time!
(5)Deborah B.
(5)jenny l.
(4)Shannon S.
(4)Sharon S.
Good job!
(5)Michelle L.
(2)Hannah E.
(4)Anita F.
Excellent food, fresh sushi, great service, definitely give it a try.
(5)Maggie H.
(5)Jenna H.
(5)Jon L.
Best albacore and eel I've ever had. Wow. If you want a traditional sushi place like Hiko but less expensive, look no further than Murakami.

Tip for the wheat-allergic: they have Tamari soy sauce by request. Great service, very fresh fish, casual vibe.
(5)Jenny C.
(4)Nimby 7.
Chirashi bowls for days. Mixed bowl is a good intro to chirashi and a solid deal. Black cod and shrimp/vegetable tempura also solid. Neighborhood gem. Must call at least 3+ hours in advance for reservations.
(5)Wil H.
Best sushi in town. I've been coming since the hollywood location and I have never been disappointed. I always have their signature dish; it's too good to be true (make your own bowl). Love this place with all my heart.
(5)Wendy L.
bowls of incredibly fresh tasty fish, for a "way cheaper than I expected" price.
(5)Sindia B.
The food is delicious but the service is not the best. The place is packed on a Tuesday and most patrons are Asians so you know it's gotta be good! The OMG roll was amazing. The fish is fresh. It's an authentic sushi spot.
(5)Stephanie W.
(5)Ed A.
This is me and my wife's favorite sushi places. We drop by here on my Friday's off. Always get the Pick 4 sashimi bowls. Always ask for the Garlic Lovers on the side. The fish is very fresh and service is great!
(4)Michelle L.
Officially my new favorite Japanese restaurant in LA. Bomb.com customized chirashi bowls. The fish is so fresh and the staff are very attentive and sweet. I'll be making many more trips back to Murakami!
(5)Sue N.
(5)Pinguino K.
(5)Melinda L.
LOVE THEIR BOWLS!!! Came here for the first time yesterday and did not want it to end. Also got the spicy albacore cut role which was bboooommbbbb. I'm definitely coming back here again...and again...and again.
(5)Foodlover A.
(4)Laurel W.
Amazing sushi! My first sushi stop after coming back from Tokyo and everything was super yummy! Love the rice and fish bowls and I always have stellar service, everyone is so nice here! Great neighborhood find!
(5)J P.
(4)Lauren N.
(4)Eric M.
Great to see Murakami still in biz but at a new location. Love that they now have a full sushi bar. Same yummy high-quality product!
(5)Pauline B.
(5)Nathan G.
Read all the great reviews, called to place an order and was told "the owner says not right now" and was then hung up on. Upon calling back no one answered. As a member of the service industry I understand nights can get busy. But you cant pick and choose when you want to give service.
(1)Sydnee M.
(5)Max H.
Always fresh and consistent. Cant go wrong with a bowl and their rolls are solid too! Murakami roll is beautiful and delicious. Alcohol is also very reasonable. Highly recommended!
(5)Nolan B.
(3)Richard L.
Favorite Sushi place in LA. I like to get the sashimi bowl and ask for it on lettuce instead of rice. The rolls are delicious and fresh and the waitstaff is friendly. It's also inexpensive for sushi.
(5)Nick M.
In total fairness, they had just opened this location in Melrose when I went there and they might have improved. (went there 6 months ago) That being said, I was not impressed. Neither by the food, not by the service.
(2)Emily W.
(4)Jamie A.
Not only great food, but a good way to get a reasonable deal on sushi. Super nice staff, too!
(5)Ryan H.
It's the best. You have to try this place !! It's boss. #entertainment720approved
(5)Sarah M.
The sushi was fresh, the service was fast, and they had a unique spin on sushi and had sushi bowls on their menu. You can create your own or pick a combination they already have. I have just had amazing sushi as of late. But this is a good place to eat as well as a menu with decent prices.
(3)Boo M.
(5)Crystal K.
(5)David K.
(2)Vlad N.
Its really 3.5 stars for me. Its good fresh fish, the rolls are nothing to jump up at but the sashimi tasted fresh and the salmon melts in your mouth. Not my favorite place but its def. worth another try for the bowls when I am in the area.
(3)Danny O.
Ordered the chicken chiragi, and yellowtail collar for appetizer which were both good. Also had the 5 piece sashimi bowl. Everything was reasonably priced. The place feels very modern and minimal. It's clean, and staffs were also friendly.
(5)ryan m.

(5)Ashley E.
Deliciousssss! The best sushi around beside Ajisai in WeHo. The fish is always super fresh. I always get the chirashi bowls & some appetizers. The staff is always so friendly and provide great service! I really love going here, and am so glad it's so close!
(5)Denni B.
(5)Elio G.

(5)Stevie L.
Way up!
(5)Kelly R.
(4)Buzz P.
(4)Teeranit P.
I've been in love with their bowl since Wilcox location. Always fresh and delicious. Very friendly and lovely service!
(5)Chouquette A.
(1)Jess C.
(5)Travelling G.
Been here twice. First time only had sushi at the sushi bar. Second time had one of their bowls. Both times were excellent!
(5)Michael C.
(5)Maritza A.
portions too small for the price!! will not come in again!!! too small for the price!
(1)LuCy t.
(4)Tania D.
(4)Nina M.
Woo hoo!
(5)Kathy S.
Amazing food.. Everything is really good. The bowls are my favorite! Fish is always fresh and amazing. Service is exceptional. Small patio to sit and people watch.
(5)Sloane B.
(5)AMichelle D.
Some of the best sushimi I've had in la! I've tried a bunch in the Hollywood area. Overall great service, fresh fish, and comfortable atmosphere.
(5)Brittany M.
(3)Diana L.
(4)Lindsay A.
Cute atmosphere, food was okay though. Not worth it for the price and amount of food. The add-ons are tiny!
(3)Deryck R.
(5)Amanda R.
(1)Angela V.
(5)Sara A.
(3)Cheryl U.
walking distance sake and sushi/chirashi? yes please. we walked in both times with a very short wait. everyone there is really nice and the fish was of good quality (not the stringy kind) and decent portions considering it's so affordable! ($15 for a bowl!)- if you're looking for a fast and super casual meal in the neighborhood, this is it.
(4)Button L.
beautiful sushi bowls and gracious service!! however, the miso soup was extremely unappetizing even before discovering a large hair in the cup.
(3)Stacy W.
(5)Sunnie B.
(4)Scott B.
The new location is very nice. They have a full kitchen now so the menu has expanded which is great. The food is still top notch and prices remain mostly the same. There is also beer and wine! There is a proper sushi bar now and outdoor seating too. Great new space for great sushi.

Very friendly service and tasty, fresh fish. Amazing sashimi. Will definitely come back.
(5)Elin P.
A friend introduced me to this spot and I can't get enough ever since. The bowls are amazing.
(5)Angela A.
(5)albert c.
We live right around the corner and noticed the good reviews on Yelp. Since Christmas, we have been to this restaurant 5 times. Service is friendly, the sashimi is fresh, and, surprisingly, the chicken and beef teriyaki are excellent. Best Japanese restaurant in the area.
(4)Bryana K.
really great sushi spot.
(5)Ari R.
(2)KT P.
(4)Ryan K.
My favorite sushi. Fresh. Delicious. Consistent. Staff is awesome. I love this place. I'm a regular. Thank you Murikami.
(5)T H.
I love this place! The sushi is very delicious. My favorite is their sushi bowls, such a fun idea. The service is also great! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. I will 100% be back!
(5)Alex K.

(5)K Nicole D.
(4)Demvihin I.
This place is sooo great! The sushi bowls are amazing. You can go with what's on the menu or create your own. And they use real crab!! Not that weird imitation nonsense. Definitely going back. Excellent. Excellent
(5)Calvin J.
(4)Hahnmade H.
great place to grab a chirashi bowl if you are in the melrose area! i was fine, but i can see how guys might think the portions are a bit small and not enough rice. however, the fish was super fresh! along with our custom bowls, we got veggie tempuras & miso eggplant app (hmm, perhaps that is why i was satisfied). the tempura coating was pretty standard, but the eggplants were sweet and savory, delicious. one thing i have to disagree with other reviews is that folks mentioned ordering "garlic sauce" on the side. it's actually taiwanese sauce that is reduced down, thick sweet garlic sauce. after tasting it, i asked the waitress how am i suppose incorporate the sauce with chirashi, she said, she doesn't know, but westerners really seemed to like it. i actually regret tasting the sauce b/c it left very strong sweet garlic aftertaste in my mouth and had to chew 2 gums to get rid of it. if you love chirashi b/c of the simple balance of rice, sashimi, wasabi & soy sauce, i would say skip the garlic sauce, and save it for either fried or spicy food. p.s. so happy that they got the temperature of rice right (not many places do) - yay!
(4)Alexandria K.
THRILLED that my fav sushi in LA is back. Is it a little further from me now? Sure. But I don't care, as long as I have murakami in my life. Xoxo
(5)Yong W.
Yes! Murakami is back. How I missed you Number FIVE bowl. My wife couldn't stop dreaming about your Sashimi Roll - the best in town. Make sure to get the garlic soy sauce on the side!!
(5)Shay P.
Good location. Good food. Great staff especially Chef Kenshi! Chef Kenshi alone is all the reason to go.
(4)Danielle K.
Great Sushi. I would suggest their chirashi bowls. Great service
(5)David M.
Great Place. True Japanese.
(5)Dima S.
I don't write many reviews but Murakami is totally worth it! Basically the best sushi spot in Los Angeles that isn't going to break your bank. The fish is always fresh and the severs are always nice! Make your own bowl and split a tempura appetizer! You won't be disappointed!
(5)Tina W.
(3)Jessica K.
(5)Emily C.
(5)Nancy A.
We tried Murakami a couple of months ago and have been going back ever since. The service is wonderful, the fish so fresh and the bowls great! It is a great neighborhood place to walk to and enjoy a great meal! Can't wait to go back
(5)Howard M.
Truly the best, and freshest Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. Murakami's omakase truly showcases his experience at Matsuhisa.
(5)Becca B.
very sweet staff. the sushi bowls are perfect. not too big, not too small. and very fresh for a good price.
(5)Marina P.
Good service, relaxing atmosphere and most importantly, the sushi and sashimi is fresh and delicious. They also have tasty monkfish liver and oysters, which helps change things up when you want to try something new. This might just be my favorite sushi place in LA and that says a lot because I love sushi.
(5)Alvin M.
Los Angeles County is a nice getaway excuse from my cliché routine life in Orange County. 2013 of pescetarianism made an impact on how I eat and a whole new ball game on dining out. This sushi joint I've been hearing from friends is highly recommended if you are in the weekend retreat mode trolling the trendier Melrose mid-city radius. Make your own bowl for under $20 (Mix bowl), seaweed salad, side of garlic soy sauce and the salmon avocado hand roll for 2 was good enough for me to add on my list to return as a patron.
(4)Michele K.
This place has stupid great fish. I love how they give you the option to choose whatever fish you want in your chirashi and the staff are always so friendly. Two thumbs up!
(5)Staci Y.
(5)Benjamin G.
(5)Hee Jo C.
(4)Christian C.
Bowls all the way!
(4)katia s.
(5)Jin H.
stop reading. just go eat. excellent cuts of fresh fish, service with a smile, all at a great value. what?? is this place in LA?? yes. go.
(5)Jr C.
It was ok. Menu just had basics. Good service but nothing new or exciting. Just meh! No need in going back.
(2)andrea r.
once you get used to the quality and the price it becomes painful to eat sushi anywhere else.
(5)Liz L.
Their chirashi bowl is the best! we had dinner here twice during our short stay in LA. Service is great as well, our waiter (an Asian guy) was very nice and energetic.
(5)Melissa Z.
(5)Bruce W.
(4)Marilynn L.
I didn't think the bowls were that great. Good size but you pay for it for $15, I think. Service is prompt and so was the food though.
(3)thom s.
I was a little hesitant coming here for sushi because it appeared the majority only get sashimi bowls. Needless to say, I went out on a whim and glad I tried it. The staff is friendly, the fish is great quality and the price is very reasonable. This is now my favorite sushi place in my neighborhood.
(5)Tim H.
the chirashi bowl was ok.

(4)G D.
(5)Brandon R.
This place takes 2nd fiddle to Sassabune but the fish quality is excellent and is half the price of Sassabune. I would highly recommend the fish bowls that you can add any fish you want to. The service is quick and usually not a wait to get in.
(4)Charles C.
(5)Dani C.
Make Your Own Sushi Bowl has many delicious options!
(4)Mission C.
I love murakami. Its my First Choice for Great Sushi in Hollywood. The bowl are just Awesome. Recommend the garlic Sauce.
(5)samantha l.
(5)Nyah M.
(5)Caitlin H.
great for small groups and they take reservations which is great if you are on a schedule.
(5)April V.
I'm in heaven. Enough said. I worked in a high end sushi restaurant and japanese is one of my favorites. This place is my new spot for sushi in LA. Good quality and unbelievable prices. I love that I can create my own bowl depending on my cravings. Simple, less is more.
(5)Della E.
Parking can be a very painful situation for everyone involved, but the food more than makes up for it. The chirashi bowls are so good -- I usually build my own and I've never been disappointed with what I've ordered. I don't think I agree with people about the steep prices or that there isn't much food, I've always left stuffed.
(5)Bree W.
(5)Jason G.
Super fresh fish! Highest quality! Just as good as the old location, but now with a full blown sushi bar.
(5)Alex P.
My favorite sushi place in LA. Even when compared with a way pricier Yamashiro I can't say that sashimi at Murakami is worse. Maybe the pieces are a little smaller but the taste my opinion is richer. Definitely recommend to all sushi lovers!
(5)Gen M.
(5)Victoria K.
they don't have noodles which really bummed me out. but it's an okay place and reasonable prices.
(3)ernie h.
So excited for this place to reopen! Really glad that they were able to find a new location and set up shop again. Been a huge fan for ages now, and am finally going to be able to get my sushi fix.
(5)Andrew S.
The bowls here are delicious, and they let you make your own, if whatever they offer isn't to your liking. Their quality of fish surpasses other sushi spots located around here. Despite the high prices, you should definitely make the trip to try it.
(5)Amy E.
Reasonable prices, fresh fish, friendly staff. Their takeout is awesome and the bowls always hit the spot. The menu is reasonably extensive while still maintaining a focus on sushi. It's great!
(5)Amanda W.
(5)Max C.
Delicious. Next time I come the Sushi Bowl is going to be the first thing I order. Top 3 Sushi in LA for me. Competes with the better Sushi I had while in Japan. If you are looking for good sushi in the area try this place out.
(5)Jolene K.
Love this place. The food is super fresh. The staff is friendly. Next time in LA I'll be sure to visit again.
(5)Justin C.
(5)Libby R.
(4)Pricilla D.
(4)Nick D.
Had to go back a second time to confirm my review. STRONGLY RECOMMEND. At least if you like raw fish. I'm a huge fan of chirashi bowls at any sushi bar. So it's only natural that I rate a place where I can choose what I want in it so highly
(5)Madz B.
(5)Rachel R.
(5)Diana W.
(4)Steven P.
The sushi was excellent the new location is wonderful and I will definitely be coming back here
(5)Sherry C.
(5)Vanessa M.
