This is our favorite place to have a drink and a bite in LA - super beer on tap and a veggie burger with fries that is great! Bring on Pliny the Elder beer! We'd love a couple of additional vegan options, but hey, this is because we eat there a lot. The atmosphere is wonderful - it is in the midst of the Brewery Arts Complex, which is home to 500-700 artists --- check out breweryartwalk.com to read about their public Art Walk event held twice a year. This basically guarrantees an interesting crowd, though at lunch you'll also often see people from the nearby USC Medical Center. Highly recommended!

I can't make up my mind about the staff - sometimes I go in and they completely ignore me, even when the bar is not busy and I start talking to them, they walk away and wash glasses or something. But other times they have been perfectly friendly and approached me to take me order straight away. It does take a while for food to come out of the kitchen when they are busy, but most of the food is good - personal favs are the pizzas, nachos, burgers and generous portions of chocolate cake. The 'healthier' options are more limited but the chicken salad and salmon with veggies are good too. The selection of draft beer is great, they change it around quite often so there's always something new to try. I live at The Brewery (the complex of artists lofts in which Barbara's is located) and go here for food very often because of that. I don't feel like I would go out of my way to visit here if I didn't live on site though.

Bartenders are beyond fabulous and they make the experience a lot more memorable! Barbara's not only has an eclectic selection on craft and bottled brews, they also have amazing food that is very inexpensive! This has definitely become one of our favorite local spots due to the impeccable service and great quality of beer and food :)

Just discovered this place with my coworker and fell in love with the atmosphere of the place and the FOOD! It's a cozy and hidden bar/restaurant/lounge in the middle of nowhere in the industrial part past downtown LA. The food is delicious and it's an excellent getaway, whether you want to come here for lunch, dinner or drinks.

I normally love coming to Barbara's. I am a resident of the brewery and come here all the time to get food or drinks after working. I came in today to order take out and the day time bartender was a complete bitch. I have never been treated so poorly. She completely ignored me when I asked for menus, she walked away in the middle of us playing our order to help another customer, and when we were done made a snarky comment and gave us all the nastiest looks. I won't be coming to Barbara's in the day time EVER again.

always known this place to be here, but lincoln heights and bar seem to reek bad news.. especially when its hidden away and you're not exactly sure where it's at.. came here on a whim one nite with a friend and now i gotta say i am going to be a regular. definitely a place i would like to come back and just chill with a beer after work. pros: very very nice rotation beer selection.. they carried one of my fav brews.. the craftsmen hefeweissen on tap.. big bonus points to that.. had a pineapple wheat from kona brewing company that was fun too.. thought you could only get that in hawaii but its nice to know they carry that here.. they had a ton of other darker beers too.. food: food is a moderate menu, its nothing to particulary go crazy and rave about, but it's better than average bar food. great price for what it's worth and probably the only place in this area to get that type of food without venturing to dt la.. crowd: came here twice.. once was mostly locals at the artist lofts all around, and during late afternoon it was a mix of artist loft guys, usc med/pharm students, and the ups guys down the the street, and maybe a few locals.. to summarize, don't take this four star and think you should drive all the way out from the valley to try this place, but you know what.. if you are in the area, definitely keep it in mind.. and if you live around here.. definitely a good go-to local spot!

Where everybody knows your name. Barbara's is great. The bartenders make it great. It's nice that a lot of Brewery residents are regulars. It feels like home, well somebody else's home - loft. Ok it feels like your friends loft :p Great place to drink. Awesome happy hour. There's a patio if you want to get away from everyone. I love to drink Pabst Blue Ribbon here because the Brewery used to be a PBR brewery. History, nice. They also make great cocktails here.

Amazing rotating selection of craft beers on tap. Good food, I recommend the chicken tacos and the nachos. I've never seen it tremendously crowded, usually a mix of two kinds of people, hipsters from the lofts and health care people from the hospital. Great place to unwind with friends. It's a little tough to locate on your first trip, but yelp's pin is in the right place.

There aren't many restaurants around USC health science area so I was disappointed at the thought of eating Jack-in-the-Box day after day. However, this place, which is in the middle of nowhere, is awesome. Their brew selection is impressive with stronger belgium beers as well as their craft brewskies. The architecture and art are kind of soho and warehouse/industrialish. The tables are large and spread out. There's a lounge area with a projector screen as well. I love the outdoor feel of the indoors and food was good. I got their special chipotle meatball sandwich ($10). Meatballs were tender but everything else was typical. Oh the salad looked amazing! I would love to come back for happy hour or for an evening drink. When I went there for lunch, it was dead. The place has a lot of potential but I guess location kind of sucks.

Babs, you done good. This is a great spot to go to when in the area or visiting one of the studios at the Brewery. I have to say that the best stuff here are the fish tacos (holy shit, they're good). They also have Shiner Bock. That is classic, since most bars don't carry this fine Texas beer. Here's the full-on Texas hookup on drinking Shiner: have the bartender/waiter put 3 olives in the bottom of the beer. No kidding. Good stuff. Don't half step. Hit this place during the Brewery Art Walk for some good grub and good vibes.

They have an awesome and unique selection of beers and liquors and the food is top quality. The also have a huge screen for the big game! You will run into USC med students, UPS drivers (station next door), artists/hipsters, and biz professionals from downtown.

One of my friends had been telling me about this place for years since he works in the area. This place has lots of different types of people given its location, by default it's located in an artist community however since it's close to county USC you see lots of people in scrubs too. As I drank my beer I got hungry, the blackboard had a few different items on it. Kobe burger it was. I'd never had a Kobe burger before and although it seemed like an unusual place to try it I did. Burger was great along with the fires. Lots of places to sit and even has some outdoor seating. Had the burger a couple of beer it was less than $20. I'll be back. I also saw lots of people coming in having a beer and getting food to go which is always a good sign. When you're looking for it and are about to give up trying to find it, keep going it's in the back part of the parking area. If you're looking for a new place to try and don't want to go all the way to downtown check this place out.

I had a friend take me here for lunch. Believe me, you need someone to take you the first time. It's hidden. I love the unique space that makes up Barbara's. When you walk in, it's a spacious room with a few tables in the middle, booths along the wall, and a sitting area with a sofa and coffee table. Walk further in and you get to the bar. This is where you order your food. Don't sit at a table and expect them to come to you. You will probably be waiting for a long time. I was feeling health conscious (doesn't happen often) so I ordered a veggie burger. It came out with lettuce, several slices of tomatoes, and a pickle on the side along with fries. I also ordered an ice tea. Yes, I know it's a brewery but I was on my lunch break from work. I try to be responsible sometimes. Bill came out to be about $8. Overall, the food and service would probably warrant 3 stars but I love the space and like that it's hidden but close to work. Great place to hide from annoying co-workers.

So I've been coming here every week on Friday nights to grab a few drinks as of late and well, let's just say I've had a change of heart about the two not-so-friendly bartenders that I've noted in my previous review. Mike (the bearded guy with glasses) is cool and friendly but he does tend to serve everyone else already at the bar first before getting to the new ones. For him in particular, I don't ever want to seem rude to him by snapping my fingers at him or raising my hand like an annoying kid wanting attention. I don't know. Maybe it's just me but I get the impression that he doesn't like being snapped at or whistled at so, as a result, I don't do those things. I always just stand there and wait patiently until he gets around to me even when there's no one in line. Now, I'm a pretty tall guy--taller than Mike, no doubt--so I don't think it's because he can't see me at the bar. I think it's more that he's keeping tabs on his surroundings to make sure all the patrons are behaving as they should. One time, he handled a crazy dude who threw food at someone at the bar and he kicked out him. (Not literally of course). He never lost his cool while he was at it. He just told the crazy guy that he needed to leave RIGHT NOW and escorted him out the door as directly and firmly as possible without appearing or sounding condescending. That was very professional. I see him in a different light nowadays and have a new found respect for him since that day. . I used to be offended on those occasions when it seems like he's staring right at my face but when I start to tell him the beer that I would like to order, he turns around as if not hearing me and walks away to do other things. I realize now that this is just his style of service. Don't take offense to it. I don't think he's intentionally being rude. I think he's just got a lot of things on his mind while working. So my advice to you would be to just wait patiently. He'll get around to you when he gets the chance. Use eye contact and smile a little. That usually works for me. James, the bartender with the hat and mustache, might seem stand-offish when you meet him for the first time but when you start going here more regularly and tipping the standard amount (15% or more--I usually just tip 20% to keep things even), he'll slowly start warming up to you. He's actually a really nice, funny guy and on a few occasions, he was singing and playing the harmonica and guitar with his friends there. After hearing him play and sing on those few occasions, I realized that he's got a lot of musical talent. He's also an excellent conversationalist. Once you get him going, you can't shut him up. And I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. I'm just saying that once you get him talking, expect to be there a couple of hours longer than you originally planned to stay there. Greg is still there and he's as chill and attentive as ever. Jake, the tallest bartender there is also very chill. He's attentive, quick, and accurate. A+ customer service for both these guys. Nicole is no longer working there (I think?) but she seems to frequent that place very often. I usually see her on Thursday or Friday nights--usually well past 8pm. Like the previous review, they still seem to swap out their beer selection on the chalk board every week or so. I haven't been disappointed by any of the beers on the chalk board from the light ales to the darkest ones they have for any week that I've gone there. They are a bit pricier than the bottled beers or canned beers but you really get what you pay for. They are really good quality beers--in my opinion--and well worth the $6-8 per pint that they charge each of them at. But when I feel like saving some money, I'd just order a Schlitz tall can for $3. PBR tall cans go for $5--and at that range, you might as well pay a buck more for the quality beers on their chalk board--SERIOUSLY! You won't regret it! 2 or 3 of those on the chalk board will give you a good buzz even if you've already eaten. Can't speak for the food but most of the other reviewers have said that they are good so I'll just run on that for now. I mainly just come here for the beer, the atmosphere, and the people. Most of the people that frequent this bar are pretty chill and easy to talk to. You can easily make new friends here and you might even find your soulmate as well. If you live in LA and haven't visited this place yet, you should seriously come check out this place and try out their beer selection! If not, there are plenty of other reasons to come here: people, atmosphere, free wifi, TV--the list goes on! Oh! And they take credit cards too! $10 minimum purchase.

Low key place in a surprising location. I think the fact that this is a nice spot where you can grab a drink on a nice afternoon while you're waiting out traffic without the hassles of parking issues or overcrowdedness is what makes this place. If you're an LAC+USC employee, chances are you will run into someone you know.

It was my first time coming here and I was very impressed. This place is definitely a GEM!! I was so happy with the food and beer selection. It was not overly packed ad all the people there were just great. The service was good and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I will definitely be coming back to this place.

I was searching for a restaurant close to USC's hospital and decided to give this a try since yelp-ers had give it 4 stars! I really wasn't sure what to expect, once I did find it. It's tucked away in an industrial complex, but once inside you forget about that. The inside reminds me of a dimly lit coffee house that has old school sofas, yet there are also some booths. The outside ambience is what I liked though. There isn't a lot of seating, but they have the patio surrounded with bamboo so you don't have the view of so many buildings. You kind of forget where you are at. It does seem like a hangout for locals. The food is okay. I had a chicken sandwich with french fries. It was just your average chicken sandwich, but the fries were seasoned nicely. Nothing fancy, but then again it cost $8. I loved the happy hour special... 3pm-6pm draft beers are $3. By the time it was all said and done, I had dinner w/a beer, tax, and tip all for about $15. Not bad!

I can't think of anything that can make this bar better. I can walk to it from my house, there are 15 moderately priced beers on tap and they have soup and free wifi. Mike and James are the BEST bartenders in LA and make my last stop of each night before heading home a happy one. They play great music, will always put a Dodger game on the big screen and not kick me out for voicing my obnoxious opinions. I've been coming here for years and it will take YOU and the NATIONAL GUARD to keep me out of here. (Thank you Norma Rae.) Quite simply, Barbara;s is the best if you want a local place to hang and chill. If you're looking for a Hollywood nightclub experience, please move on.

This place is a hidden spot in Lincoln Heights at the Aritst Colony. You can see it off the freeway with the large smokestack. Came here on a Friday nigh with friends. Not a bad spot to chill since it's not overly crowded. Had some good beers (Craftsman) and some pretty good burgers. Prices for drinks aren't that bad..

Cozy is the first thing that comes to mind about this place. I love it!!! It's kind of old school in looks, comfy couch and chairs, cool bar area, and they have an awesome record collection you can choose from and they will play it for you. The bartenders were pretty cool and my vodka cranberry was $4.50. I am totally down with that. My drink was super stronger but it wasn't weak either. The only suck thing about this place is that it's hard to find. It's in this artist co-op thing and if you don't know where you are going you will totally not see it. The good thing is there is plenty of parking. If I'm in east LA I will go back.

My boyfriend lived at the Brewery for years, and I've heard so many tales about the joint, when we finally got to go to LA last weekend, I was excited. Barbara's is pretty cool. It's too loud and the sound bounces a lot, but what do you expect from a concrete room? The music was great, the bartenders generous and cheerful. We didn't eat, but I know a lot of people do eat there repeatedly, so it must be decent food. If I lived at the Brewery I would be glad Barbara's is there.

My hub-master schooled me in the Brewery. Barbara's was his hangout before me met. He loves the Burning Man crowd. Everyone here is friendly. Cheers-ish in a funky, artsy fartsy way. It's hard to find Barbara's but if you see the neon heart, you are there. Beers are plentiful...cocktails strong and cheap. I wouldn't go here for the wine selection. Food is actually quite nice and very inexpensive. I mean a rib eye for like $14? With all the fixings? Unheard of! And it's well done too. What I always think about when I think of Barbara's is the art in the ladies room. It's these watercolors of little dainty gloves and bras on a clothes line. I love them. I even called the artist, but they are out of my price range. Damn. Maybe on my next bonus.....

The Brewery is a cool artistic community in Lincoln Heights, offering gallery space, performance spaces, living spaces, and semi-annual artwalks. We were attending a performance at the Diavolo Dance Theater and research brought us to Barbara's at the Brewery, a chill bar-restaurant reflective of the neighboring artistic community and the Brewery's history as well... a brewery. A Monday-Friday, 4-6 pm happy hour features $3 well drinks and their wide variety of draft beers. Pints of draft Pabst Blue Ribbon will only run you $2 at all times. No food specials, but we dined on a dinner of BLT & onion rings to the tune of $7, which seems pretty special after all, especially when enjoyed with a $2 PBR. The crowd was super cool - arty and edgy without pretensions, and featured likeminded groups who appeared to be grabbing a bite before an event. Possibly a good place to meet arty singles. Even though the happy hour hours aren't so good for us 9-6'rs, good non-happy-hour prices and a very cool ambience have us excited to check this joint out again.

I am a Brewery Resident myself and i can vouche for Barbara's. They have a great selection of food and beer. With specials every day and a great happy hour you will want to come back again and again. But the atmosphere is what i love best. Always run into friends and the guys/gals behind the bar are great people. You will also get the occasional celebrity being that there are lots of industry people in the area but please dont bother them if you do see them. They have a few pieces of art from local talent that is really cool and the place has lots of history. The surrounding area is cool to look at especially if you are sitting outside. They have big booths so if you want to go with a group you will have room for all your friends. Again i would recommend Barbs to everyone that wants a nice place with interesting people, laid back atmoshpere and again a place to take in some serious downtown los angeles history and scenery.

Love coming to this space in the industrial outskirts of Lincoln Heights! Great kickback atmosphere with an awesome selection of beers. Their Salmon plate is beyond great! Not so crazy about the spinach dip though. Overall I love this place :)

You walk in without a feather clipped into your hair or a Fedora and the obligatory/cliched "Hey-look-how-different-and-zany-I-am-with-this-Âthick-1972-mustache-that-every-other-hipster-on-Âthe-planet-has" facial growth and you'll get glared at like you raped somebody's mama, as the angry socially-awkward loser behind the bar grudgingly pours you a drink like he's bending over backwards to do you a very important favor. Dude, it's nobody else's fault but your own that you dropped out of community college and ended up a middle-aged nobody trapped for life behind a bar in the middle of nowhere.

Without any kind of doubt, my most favorite bar in LA. Amazing selection of beer and liquor at totally reasonable prices. Never totally packed with dickheads, and usually the music is at a talkable volume. The bartenders are awesome and knowledgable. The best part is that they swipe your card and give it back to you so you don't have to drag your sorry ass back there the next day when you try to go buy lunch!

D'you ever watch the show Cheers? Nuff said, there you go! It's not for people looking to be seen and heard. Barbara's is for someone who just wants to chill with your friends or by yourself. You must wait on yourself. If you want a drink, you have to go to the bar to get it. It's hard to find and it's definitely out of the way! You have to know where you're going in order to get there. Art work on all walls, and you can tell why from the other regulars at the place. It's mainly developed to cater to the artist community in the area. Drinks are very, very reasonable and they have great pepperoni pizza. I've had a party there for my friends and I and have spent $85. See you there!

Hidden in a artsy residential warehouse community surprisingly in Lincoln Heights. So random. But the bar/restaurant is solid. Everyone knows everyone... decent food, moderate drinks (used to be a brewery back in the day). This place has a modern day recreational center type of feel.

I had my b-day celebration here this year. I chose this place b/c I knew it closed early (needed to be home early) and it was close to home too. It was a little hard to find because it's in back of these old buildings underneath all the lofts. Place is super chill. They had a jukebox playing but very low. Outdoor seating. Good selection of beer. Plenty of parking out in their lot.

This place is a hidden jewel. If you are into a low-key, no frills, just-a-spot-to-chill kind of place, this is IT. I've been coming here for three years now. My favorite place to go unwind after a long day at the office - besides my own home. People are friendly - as a feel of community. The bartenders are always nice and cheerful. I've thrown MANY happy hours and birthday parties here. They are accomodating and great! Food - is not great but alright. But the drinks and atmosphere makes up for it ten folds.

This is a bar that you'll never find unless you are looking for it. It's buried in the back of an industrial lot so there's no way to stumble upon it from the street. But if you do happen upon it, it's a great place to get a drink. Drink prices are cheap ($4.50 for gin & tonic, my wife got her usual blue hawaiian for $4 and it was in a full size glass cup that you would get a coke in!!!) it's not loud and a great place to meet up with people you know to chill and hang out. Undiscovered hideaway in downtown LA's artist colony. I say this because Barbara's is hard to find. Barbara's is in a very industrial part of town. Once you arrive and find the place, you'll discover it's a bistro frequented by resident artist, hipsters, and folks who just want to get away and chill. The food is gourmet good but not pretentious. I always used to order the grilled salmon with steamed veggies, which was excellent. Go for the happy hour. Their well drinks and domestic beers are $2 to $3. The place is very kick back and is a great place to lounge and share great convesations with friends. Barbara plays great music like Radiohead, Beck, Sigur Ros. Further, the folks that run the place are super cool. Resident artist showcase their work in the bistro and twice a year the colony hosts an art-walk.

Went there friday just to try something different. To my surprise i found a really chill spot and great place to hide out from the usual bar scene. The beers were cold and reasonably priced. The crowd was very friendly. Will definitely be back Next time I'm going to try the food.

Definitely worth finding! I come here a lot. the food is great the staff is friendly and unpretentious. I have just as much fun and enjoyment out with my husband on a date as I have taking my 2 little kids to meet up with grandpa. I don't know of anyone that has eaten here that didn't enjoy it. I am a big fan of their meatloaf, their specials are always very good too. The drinks are great and the bartenders are fantastic. sometimes they will play a sports game on the projector, the music is always eclectic and enjoyable. Mike and James (the 2 guys behind bar that do practically everything in the place) are always ready to accommodate you, service is speedy friendly and efficient.

Barbara's is in the center of the Brewery, and since I live there, I tend to go there more often than not. But I'm not just a regular, I'm a fan. The bartenders are friendly (Howard has an awesome and strange video collection, James and Mike have great taste in music and keep us entertained), and they're super helpful. For example, they stop serving food at 9 pm -- but never miss a beat when 10 of us regulars call in orders at 8:59. I also love that the drink prices are decent (PBR on tap is always $2!)... BUT, my main reason for the 5 stars is their food. I have eaten there hundreds of times, and I have never, ever had bad food. I worked in the restaurant business for 9 years, so I'm damn picky, and I continue to be shocked at how consistently good their food is... and not JUST bar food (though they have that stuff too). My favorite is the salmon with sauteed veggies (with a touch of garlic, never overcooked) and a side salad (with their house vinaigrette, mmm). I also love their meatloaf. And burgers... trying not to eat bread these days but their burgers are good enough that they don't need a bun. My only beef... and it's a big one, but not something they can do anything about so I'm not marking them down for it... is they are closed on Sundays. When you're used to having them there to feed your lazy ass the rest of the week, it continually befuddles me that they are closed on the day I need them most. I am quoting my bf on the phone as he's walking out of this place ... "the service sucks!!! i ordered a sampler and they forgot the fries!! the sampler specifically said WITH FRIES! our food came COLD, not warm, freezing cold! the waiter purposely ignored us and i swear it's one of those places that they think being rude to you is "trendy.'" we had to ask repeatedly for service, then he gave us some lame reason like "sorry i was trying to do math in my head." the only plus side was our food was comped... atmosphere and decor was great tho, very laid back and the prices for beer was cheap but.... the service is so horrible i dunno if i will come back, for sure if i do come back it'll have to be with friend who are patient and tolerate of crappy , rude service"

This is an amazing place to eat/drink and the artist lofts during artwalk are a lot of fun. The beer selection is good and the burgers are excellent but the people and amptosphere are why I give it 5 stars.

I don't live in the Brewery, but I go to Barbara's all the freakin' time. I don't think the service is bad *at all*. The bartenders are friendly as if they were your actual *friends*, not slaves hired to do your bidding. The food is excellent... truly, the salmon is terrific. Prices are reasonable.

HOW THE... WHAT THE... ...I DO NOT KNOW HOW I GOT HERE... I mean...by car...yes but what streets, freeways or highways we took...I have no clue. It's a bit intimidating when you pull in cuz....SERIOUSLY...there's nothing there. You'll find a loading dock (to load what...I do not know...dead bodies perhaps?), a bookstore (it looks like someplace in a horror flick...really dark, messy with one guy sitting in the dark reading a book) and Barbara's. So...we walk in and its pretty empty inside...there's a man sitting in a booth with a dog. A friggin dog inside the bar...I still gave him a pat on the head anyway. It was a weird nite...I didn't want to drink alcohol. WTF? When does this ever happen? Kekeke...so I had a Diet Coke with lemon. Oh and I agree with Dee d., the art is pretty much crap...but some were pretty interesting. It's a cool place tucked away in some place. I seriously have no idea where this joint is. All I know is...it's in some area called Lincoln Heights...WTH? I dunno...if you can find it...it's worth stopping by. Good luck.

Learned about the Brewery thru my art professor and that's how I came across this joint. Choose this place for a friend's birthday party and it was very kick back and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The food is alright, wasn't anything spectacular but this may have changed since it's been a couple years since I've been back and if you can handle alcohol you might enjoy this place even more. My friends enjoyed how there was a robot wars going on in one of the buildings. Can't beat free parking. Just be respectful and don't be obnoxious since folks do live at the Brewery.

I really like Barbara's, and Barbara. They've got a REALLY damn good wine list with some unbelieveable deals, the vibe is very low key and artsy and it's a great place to kick back and take it easy.

A friend convinced me to have a "birthday party" here. Good advice on his part. Good selection of beer, good prices, good music, and the food was OK. Not great, but definitely pretty decent for a bar. Don't think there were really any vegan options but the stuff with cheese was pretty good. Have returned since my initial visit and really enjoy the place. It may very well be my "new spot."

I live at The Brewery and I frequent and am good friends with most of the bar staff here. The music is generally pretty great and they even have lots of vinyl to choose from. The food is ok, I have probably eaten here too many times and might just be bored of it but everything is always prepared very well. My only complaint is that I wish there was more healthy or vegetarian options. All in all it's a great spot and run by great people.

I am a regular at Barbara's, and go there at least a couple of times a week. They have a rotating supply of fantastic and hard to find micro brew beers on tap that sometimes are only available for short periods of time. The bartenders are great folks, and are all friends of mine. For food, I usually order the fish tacos, cheeseburger, or blacked salmon, all of which are very tasty. The crowd is made up of many artists from the Brewery artist colony along with lots of neighborhood locals and people who work nearby. It's a very casual, laid back kind of place where everyone is welcome, and you can always find friendly people to chat with. There are no parking hassles, and there are 2 outdoor patios to chill out on. I am lucky that it's a 2 minute walk from my front door. I love Barbara's!

Goldmine. If you've not been here, I'd not be surprised, it's such a discovery. Why did I go? Well, I'm part of the lapodcaster.com group, since my web site, itsallinyourhands.com is in theory a podcast. And they have monthly meetings here, so I went... finding it was almost a mystery, because it's such in a random place, I really thought I was lost. It's really great though. They have an awesome draft beer selection, the bar is big and full of options, it actually has a crowd, but consist of mostly the people who live in the surrounding loft communities. You have to check this place out if you can. It's really an awesome place, I really liked it a lot, and now I'll be there once a month for sure, and maybe a couple other times just because it's such a cool place.

This spot is pretty rad. Good privacy, tiny little tiki hut outdoor section. I've never been there where i had to wait too long for a drink. Great, out of the way nestled in the neighborhood. i had been frequenting the brewery district for some time before i realized there was a bar there. What a novel idea!

As a new employee in a loft at the Brewery, I was quickly introduced to the blessing that is Barbara's. The food's great, and though mostly standard bar fare (burgers, quesadillas, etc) they also have pretty good fresh sandwiches and their specials are great (the shrimp tacos are yum!). The employees are super nice, friendly, and accommodating (want sauce on the side? you won't get a cross look!) and the atmosphere is low-key. The music they play is always really great too--so if you want to enjoy your burger and cocktail while listening to bands like The Books and !!! this place is for you. A gem in the Brewery!

The food here is pretty so-so, but that is not why I go. I live in the 600 building, so I just have to walk downstairs to get my slant on. Convenience aside, I still like this place. It is not so loud that I can't hold a conversation. The bartenders are cool. What other bar will play Shellac or LSV? Best to get there early, as last call is kind of at the bartender's discretion.

Went to this place last week for my birthday, just to try something new and I wanted my free birthday beers to be tasty ones :) And sure enough, the beer selection was great. I also had some food...the veggie burger and fries were delicious. Like previous reviews have said, the bartenders are extremely friendly and the atmosphere was nice, just wish there was room for my big group to sit outside. I'm pleased, glad I chose to go there.

...So I was jetting downtown to pick up my shiny new package waiting for me at UPS, when I slammed into a barbed wire fence preventing me from ripping open my new Amazon delivery. I asked the UPS man, "what gives?" He said the gates open at 8:30, it says 7:30, but it's 8:30. WHAT?! So I said, Mr. UPS guy, is there a bar around here, preferably with food? He said, "HAHA, ohhhhhhh yesssss, ohhhhhh yes, my friend. Two blocks that way is Barbara's@the Brewery. Trust me, you'll be back, and you'll bring your buddy's." I thought he was selling me a strip club. Then I went inside. Are you kidding me? How could I have never heard of this place? I know I live by Hollywood, but I travel downtown. The beer selection on tap was sweet, and it rotates all the time. The bartender asked what type of belgiums I was into and hooked me up. I had some meatloaf which was great. I was surrounded by Sinatra records and old blue eyes crooned from above. The vibe was relaxed and industrial. I got this from the UPS guy? I'll be back.

This is my favorite place to go after a long day at work...great selection of beer, mixed drinks are good, service is friendly and very helpful. Happy hour is great. The place is well-hidden and really unpretentious...I love it.

I like coming here because they really do have the best ginger ale EVER! It's called Gingerita. A little vodka and mmmm..... I have never ordered any other drink here because I am in love with the ginger here.... Besides that the bar is relaxed and they have a kitchen as well always a plus... Just go on their website and see how funny it is to find this place...you do spirals just to get to the vicinity. There is a book store right next door where curious patrons peek their heads in to discover a completely dark room with one lamp on and a guy half asleep, slouched on a chair with a fan running. This place is for the serious, I don't give a F#@$ where I get drunk type peoples!

This place has decent food and seems convenient for after work hang outs. When you grab a table, don't expect a waitresses to cater to your every beck and call, because all orders must be made at the bar. Although your food is brought to your table, the fact that paying up front always makes me feel like I'm getting away without paying a tip. However, don't let this influence your gratuity. The place swarms with eccentric, artist types who are friendly and fun to watch, and more so if you brave the chance to get to know one.

Alright, I'm a regular so I need to set the record straight. Barbara's is a great bar to come meet your friends any day of the week (except sunday, I'll get back to that). First, the beers on tap are ever-changing and always excellent. With three standards: Hoegaarden, Stella, and Newcastle, there are also 7 more visiting beers. These 7 extra taps rarely stay the same for long since the bar staff keeps the selection changing, also, it's some really good beer so it doesn't last long either. The last time I was there they had a Coronado Brew co. winterale, Avery Brew co. IPA (my fave), Victory Brew Co. Hop Wallop and Golden Monkey, and Craftsman Brew co. Heavenly Hef and Cabernale which is a wine and beer combination reminiscent of a framboise. They also have your standards in glass; Bud,bud lite, on and on. As well as some much rarer sour beers and small batch brews, If you like beer ask the knowledgable bartenders about what they currently have. And yes, mixed drinks are strong and under-priced compared to downtown. The food is good. They open at 9:30 and the Lunch service starts at 11:30-3:00. It isn't a gastropub but it's always worth the money, think upscale family restaurant. And yes, there is no table-side waiters because it isn't run by that much staff and they are always happy to bring you any additional items you need for your meal. Happy-hour is from 4p-6p which means all taps are $3 (a steal for what they have on tap) and $3 well drinks and $2 Pabst tallboys. Dinner is from 5-9pm and often includes some tasty specials, my fave is the chicken florentine or chicken molé. Yes, this is a difficult place to find if you don't know the area, but that's the charm folks, not often over-crowded and plenty of parking. Also, who in this day and age doesn't have some kind of car nav. or phone GPS? If you're still lost call the bar for directions. It is a bummer they aren't usually open Sundays however they will be this Sunday for an NFL game. I suggest you call if you have an interest and see what they say. The last time I was there I noticed they had reupholstered the booths and repainted the dining room as well as put up new artwork and better lighting, I also overheard the owner saying more changes were in the works. The dining room currently has 5 booths a couple 5-tops and some couches and a coffee table under the big screen, a couple more TV's in the bar with another booth a few more 4-tops and room for about 12 stools at the bar. There is no more antiquated 'Tiki-Hut', and with the current weather it's a dream to hang on the outside patio's and talk with whatever random residents (or dogs) come in. And if you're coming in looking for 5-star white-glove service? Keep looking, the bartenders(who are the servers and order-takers as well) are all very accommodating and friendly but have too much going on to stop and revisit every table. This is a bar, with some good food, great bartenders and interesting people, that simple.

I don't get to Barbara's nearly enough, but am always thoroughly pleased when I do! The food is downright delectable -- always refreshing to find a laid back bar with better-than-bar-food offerings (they have the regular fare, as well as specials and yummy fish offerings). Still, the 1/2 chicken w/ crispy skin, juicy meat, w/ mashers and a salad is only $8.99. Great beer selection, excellent staff, ambience, art on the wall, vibe, etc. Also generous outdoor area. Divey bar area and larger cozy/loungy couch/booth-filled area. And, mmm... they've always got at least one Craftsman beer (fresh-tasting suds from Pasadena) on tap. Two happy hours, 5-6pm and 11-12.

I got this information from my navigation system and decided to go because it was local. It was extremely hard to find, its very hidden. I was trying to show my friend from Brazil a nice restaurant to have dinner at. First off, this is a very dark and depressing restaurant with very minimal people at prime time for dinner. I actually thought it was closed down until I walked in and saw about 3 people. You have to order from the bar and then go and sit somewhere, where they bring you your food but never come back. I had to keep walking up to the bar inside for refills of water. I'm not too picky about water but my friend referred to it as "sewer water" and I would have to agree. The two bartenders/waiters were very unpleasant, in many ways, which I will not get into because that would take forever. There was a large sign that said "Ask for the wine list" and when my friend asked for it, they laughed in her face. I asked if they had any wines from San Antonio Winery (since it is practically next door) and they said very rudely "Ours is MUCH better quality"... So I drank the wine, which I have never heard of and it was disgusting. They were out of Hefenweizen so some people were upset and to top off the night, there was a big dog sitting in the restaurant with his owners while they enjoyed some drinks. I mean this isn't Europe and it wasn't Paris' Chihuahua. It was a Rott. Kind of gross to sit in a restaurant with a Rott. I would never go back there again and I am truly embarrassed that I subjected my Brazilian friend to such a place. She commented on the way out that "in Brazil, she would have never been treated like dirt as she had at this place".

i love this place. you can sit outside even after the place is closed and hang around for hours. if you're a sipper, it's ALL good. i hate to say it though, but the ART at the BREWERY is pretty much crap--give or take the needle in the haystack. if you're reading this and you have a space there, i'm sure you're the needle. :)

Well look who's all grown up now. It's been 7 years since my first review of this place and things have changed... for the better. Where else in LA can you find a hidden gem in the middle of an artist community where ER doctors rub shoulders with artists, ups drivers, and hop heads? This is the only gastropub worth a damn for miles with the best and hardest to get beers in town. The setting, the patrons, the updated menu, the service, everything is spot on. Don't expect: Coors light or Corona Do expect: Something new and delicious They have a brilliant craft cocktail program as well.

If anyone deserves one star, it's Barbara's. I have developed a strict No-Barbara's Policy when visiting the Brewery, due to (as I just explained to a group of friends who are now suffering there) their low quality food, high prices, and rude staff. Emphasis on the rude staff. Sidelong glances and unapologetic sarcasm inflection will get you far in art, perhaps, but not so much in serving. Just because you fancy yourself a hipster doesn't require you to be a douche. Really, man, you don't HAVE to be a dick. You know that; perhaps you simply want to be, or simpler still, are one. Anywho, this place can, as they say, suck it.

Love this place! My friends and I were comparing it to Joe's bar on greys anatomy because it seems like where all the doctors from USC go during their time off! I wish they weren't wearing their germy scrubs though. There is plenty of parking and the place is super chill. No happy hour on food and kitchen doesn't open until 5 though :[ The nachos were delicious and the zucchini fries were some of the best we ever had. The waitresses were a little overeager with clearing away glasses and they would try and take stuff away before we were done. I almost wish I didn't know about this place because they don't really have that many healthy options and I can tell we're going to be here all the time.

So, having been back many times since (a friend lives in the complex), my opinion has shifted. Not that I take back anything - I still don't get service industry employees that seem to hate dealing with people - but the place has grown on me a bit. They're kinda like that D&D, slightly asperger-y friend - has good taste, super knowledgable, but completely socially incompetent. Yet once they get to know you a little better, they relax and can even be fun to be around. Still, no one I've ever brought there has enjoyed their first experience, so take it for what it's worth.

I'm a fan! Came here with my bf and his class after midterms. It was friday evening and pretty freakin crowded. There was nowhere to sit for a while. Finding it is a bit of a pain, it's a little windy road, but oh well at least they have parking and it's free. I totally think that this bar is hipster, there were a bunch of them in the beginning, and a few older people eating in small groups. The barkeep was pretty attentive, and getting a drink wasn't tough at all. I tried the dry cider which was decent, and another beer that I can't remember now but it was good! Also tried their nachos which was good. I'll be back.

This is my first review on yelp. I called ten minutes in advanced because I was running work errands and lunch was well past due. I ordered a garden burger and paid a dollar extra for zucchini fries. This place is actually inside the Brewery and could very well be described as the heart of it. My food was ready when I arrived and I was very pleased! The burger could have been pre made but I was too hungry to even tell. The fries were spot on though! 10/10 will be back again

*** Lunch ends @ 3pm, so get there earlier. *** It's hidden in an older industrial area, gentrified with artist lofts and a myriad of craftsmen type businesses. It's spacious, it's rustic, it's indoor/outdoor, it's just right to knock back & chill. Several microbrews on tap (local and imported). Several sandwich choices available too. I had the pesto chicken and seasoned fries. Pesto was fresh & tasty. Chicken was plump & juicy. Bread grilled. The fries were warmly seasoned to a medium rectangular perfection, well paired with a Drake IPA to finish the meal. *** It's relaxed, lazy and unassuming in a way that I like. ***
