Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Demitris is BACK! Delicious food, hoppin' atmosphere and great service! My gyro was amazing, pasta incredible and YAIYAI S VEGGIES PIE - unreal! I've been to Demitris three times and twice it was outstanding (once - only okay). Tonight, it was busy as heck, but I'm cool with that...it's a great restaurant. Thanks Demitris!

Came in on a Sunday night with a party of 4 and was seated pretty quickly despite the restaurant being packed. Our meal came with bread (be wary for vegetarians, I think they grill the bread on the same grill as their meat, so the bread can have a meaty taste to it--but it's tasty for non-vegetarians!!). The spread for their bread was a seasoned mashed potato, absolutely delicious for complimentary bread!!! We ordered a hummus+pita for our appetizer. One of the best hummus I ever had for sure. The pita was warm and fresh, and they gladly gave us extra pita! For our main course, the boys ordered the Gyro pita wrap with fries, and the girls ordered the pork souvlaki wrap with pasta salad. Each thought their dish was better than the other! The pork souvlaki is juicy and flavourful. The gyro is your typical beef and lamb combination. We had to eat the wraps like a taco, there was just too much stuff (tomatos, onions, tzatziki)! Overall it's a great place for Greek food. The decor was beautiful (Greek armor, maps of Greece), the service was cheery, and the ambiance is a little on the louder side, but that's because everyone seems to be having a good time! Will come back if I'm ever in the area again!

LOVE this place. I've been going for years with my dad since they first opened up. It's great to see how much this place has grown! Servers are very friendly and the owner Demitri is awesome! If you're down with seafood order the Seafood Penne it's BOMB
(5)Melissa R.
So I have been playing the field, you know, keeping my gyro options open. Well, turns out a Demitri's gyro cannot be beat! Taziki...perfect texture and taste. The pita used is big enough to accommodate the delicious meat. And last, perfect amount of onions and tomatoes. A bonus was the service on a busy Friday night was on point. One star upgrade for this yummy downtown jewel.

small and cozy restaurant in downtown livermore friendly staffs and tasty foods had seafood pasta but i want to have linguini instead of penne..asked staffs.. she was so kindly to get my order and I really enjoyed to eat my seafood pasta. also, my husband had ground meat dishes wrapped around leaf..i forgot the name so soft and juicy beef roll will go back to try another foods

I was craving a gyro and this hit the spot! Food portions are big and drinks are delicious. I was eating at the bar and it happened to be the owner's friends birthday, and all of us got a free ouzo shot out of it. It was delicious. Just like a lot of places in Livermore, the owner is usually around. Demetri, the owner, came by to introduce himself, make small talk, and ask about my dinner. That friendly gesture took my dining experience to a whole another level. What a friendly guy! I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Livermore.
(4)Jimmy P.
The food here is amazing! Only came here once, but it was with some friends and we shared with each other. Service was a bit slow, but it was around lunch so we were expecting it. We shared gyros bites, some kind of Mediterranean pasta, and two other dishes I don't even want to try to spell. All of it was great. Was my first time at a Greek place, and I'm sold. Glad I live in San Jose right now because if they were too much closer I'd eat here every day!
(5)Chris R.
I don't go to Demiti's often enough. I always go for lunch and I always get the same thing: Tri-Tip Cesar. they do a really great job with this so I rarely stray. I've had the gyro. The gyro is great. Their hamburger is great too. Maybe the best in town. But me? I'm a Cesar man. Good selection of beer. Always great and friendly service. P.S. the grilled bread and spread they bring to the table - to die for. P.P.S LOTS of Ouzo! OPAAA!
(5)Emily P.
Demitri's Taverna is a great Greek restaurant and has become one of my favorite's in the Livermore area. My family and I have experienced great service and the staff have always been so friendly and provided a memorable experience. The Mediterranean Burger is amazing and their soup really hits the spot. I would give this place 10 out of 10 stars if I could!
(5)Renee M.
Waiting for our new car to be detailed before we head home and they told us to come to first street. After looking around we decided to try this place and it was a great choice!!! Delicious and friendly service.
(5)Riki N.
Nice location, good food, pleasant service. Ordered the gyro which is combination beef/lamb. Good meat and nice pita. Gyro comes laid out on a flat pita though, which makes it a bit more work to eat as it unfolds any time you set it down. +1 ordered a chicken sandwich of some sort which she said was very good. On par with most very good Greek I've had in my time, though I have to say I'm still partial to Yiassoo in San Jose/Campbell. Regardless, Downtown Livermore dwellers will find their Greek needs at Demitri's without a doubt.
(4)Jennifer Y.
Wow, this place is amazing. I can't say enough great things about it. Can't believe I'm just now getting around to writing a review. But I went just last week and had to write something. Casual cozy atmosphere with very friendly staff. There have even been evenings when the bartender offers free shots of the Greek liquor which I can't pronounce. You feel welcomed and treated like family. The food is fantastic! I'm a sucker for their gyros and almost always get them. I have a hard time branching out to try other things on the menu. Last week I had their special which was a grilled swordfish kebab with rice pilaf and I cleaned my plate. The fish was very fresh and had great flavor. The rice pilaf was perfectly seasoned, not too salty. I've also tried their chicken which is also delicious. If you're looking for a fun night with delicious food (at a great price too!) then come here! You won't regret it.
(5)S L.
I am not a fan of tomatoes or onions but these gyros make anything taste amazing! They also have the best beer in town on tap, Tricerahops. The staff has always been great and on top of everything as well. Opa!
(5)Nancy T.
Went here yesterday with my boyfriend and another couple for Valentine Brunch. There was no one in there because it was a work day and a late lunch, so we got excellent service. :) The tables and chairs seem a bit crammy and cozy but it wasn't bad. The bread and garlic/mashed potatoe spread is amaaazing, we ended up having 3 baskets of bread, each wanting our own thing of spread. DEeee- licious. I ordered the traditional pita with chiken. It was good, but it tasted a little bland to me, I had to dip it in ketchup or add some of the garlic spread to give it more flavor. I could've asked for more tzatziki sauce, white creamy looking sauce they put on it, but I was lazy. Then we all shared a dessert, I can't even tell you what it was called, its not even on their menu online, so I couldn't look it up. Some funky name the waitress said was hellllllllllaaaa good so we ordered it. It was OKAAAY! Hella sweet that's for sure. It was vanilla flavor, the texture was like mush, and flan looking. I wasn't a fan, I would've been happy with a scoop of ice cream but whatever. Then, in the end, we ended up paying $40$ per couple, WOW, I was like wtf did we buy!! and being overly generous we tipped $10 per couple so that made it $50, I guess for the good service, or I was just with two very generous tippers. But anyways.... Point is, this place was still good and I would come again.
(4)Jackie T.
Oh that pasta salad was so delicious!!! I need to figure out the recipe it was so tasty. The service was spectacular and the lamb burger was very good. My Mom had the Gyro pasta and she said it was fantastic!!
(5)Rich C.
The food is great, so don't get me wrong. The part that I have a problem with is that we went in last Monday, and while we were eating dinner, the server accidentally brought extra tsaziki (sp?) sauce over to us, and left it on our table. So we used it, thinking it was free, and then when we received the bill, they charged us for it. Bad service.
(2)Brad D.
This is always one of our favorite places in Livermore and we are lucky enough to live around the corner from such great restaurant choices. Dimitri and staff are awesome and always friendly and full of smiles. Love the sliders and the gyro salads are great. We prefer to sit at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere but they also have outdoor seating. Gets busy which is always good to see. Enjoy.
(5)Lori S.
Spanakopita again ! Third time is the charm! This cafe has the best ! Very nice cool atmosphere to relax and enjoy their awesome food in. Had a sangria it was tasty and refreshing.
(5)Juan I.
Wow, I can't get over how good this place was! I had a grilled chicken plate, with a side salad and rice pilaf. The chicken was very light and had a great taste! The rice pilaf was the best rice pilaf I've ever had. Their side salads are very light and fresh. They provide you with garlic bread before your order which is also very tasty. Our server and food runner were also very helpful and provided great customer service. Thanks for the great dinner!
(5)Karen G.
I'll start off by saying that I loved the service AND food here. This place definitely deserves 5 stars. I came here about 4 years ago and honestly couldn't remember it well enough. I went again a couple of months ago for my friend's birthday and I'm glad I did. We ordered the hummus appetizer that came with about 6 different types. I remember one of them was a feta hummus. They were all delicious, and we were served bread with a side of garlicky mashed potatoes (which I thought were incredible - yes, I got excited about their mashed potatoes). I ordered the chicken pita which I thought was very good as well. It was actually a good sized portion because I ended up taking some home. I know I ordered a cocktail which was recommended by our server, but I can't remember which one it was. All I know was that it was really good, just like their food and service. :) I will definitely go back soon.
(5)Lola B.
Love this place. Great food, great fun vibe, friendly service!!!! I love the sexy alligator cocktail and the chk florentine sandwich with frys. The owner always comes around to personally say hello. Very nice touch Demetri !!!!!!! Keep it up
(5)Steven N.
This place was epic! Stopped here on the way to Yosemite from Palo Alto. The food was delicious- I had the gyro, which had great pita and a combination of beef/lamb. The service was also perfect. The owner was behind the bar and gave us free shots... He really seems to enjoy being involved in the business... Great place, epic food... A great find!

I somehow managed to get my wife to go for a 2+hr motorcycle ride with from San Jose to Livermore (passing over Mt. Hamilton). I guess since it was my birthday, she agreed. The plan was for our daughters to meet us there for dinner. Somehow, the girls failed to make a reservation and did not show up on time to claim a table the hostess had held for them. It was a very busy day and we were told to check back in 45 minutes as we were trying to hold the plan together. My daughter mentioned in passing that it was my birthday and this set the hostess in motion. Within about 5 minutes we were seated. We were a group of 6 and ordered many different dishes. The food was excellent and the service quite wonderful too. In short, and excellent experience and a lovely conclusion to my birthday celebration! I recommend this restaurant without reservations (ahem, so to speak)!
(5)Sam O.
Love this place. Great food, great people. Sitting at the bar is where it's really at, but only if you're down to drink Ouzo. One of my favorite neighborhood spots for sure.
(5)Tamara W.
this is my second visit to Demitir's and each time i've been pleased, not only with the great foods but with the service i highly recommend the Dolmas... so flavorful and delicious! for dessert don't forget about the Baklava, it is the BEST in town. if you have the opportunity to sit at the bar , ask for Antonio, he is Awesome! here you are treated like family ! thank you for a great birthday dinner!
(5)Mandy M.
This is our favorite place in town! It's great for a date or for the whole family. The service is wonderful and the food is amazing!
(5)Vira P.
My friend took me here for my birthday, and I was definitely happy for this edible present! We started off with the hummus plate, and I got the veggie burger and fries. She had the chicken pita. The hummus plate, which comes with 3 different types of hummus, was a great way to ready our palate. And the complimentary bread came with garlic mash potatoes.. who does that?! It was so good that when we got boxes for our entrees, we took the bread and potatoes! The veggie burger was well seasoned, and a great alternative for those who don't want to eat beef. I'll have to come back here to order their drinks.. I have a sweet tooth and the drinks look like they'll satisfy that type of craving.
(5)Jay T.
I was sitting next door at the beer baron enjoying a nice cold brew when I caught a whiff of pure deliciousness. I had no idea what it was but I had to try it. I walked inside and was greeted by the owner. Not well versed what they had to offer he asked what i wanted, my reply whatever that smell is. He laughed and said let me get you a gyro. I've been back several times including valentines day with no reservation, the owner gave me a hard time for that. This place is awesome, nice addition to downtown. The nostalgia of being inside the old dunbars arcade is just an added bonus.
(5)Jack L.
This is our absolute favorite spot in town for dinner! Not only is the food fantastic but the staff is extremely friendly and personable. We feel at home in this place and we probably eat here more than any other restaurant in Livermore. great food, cocktails, beer and wine. Cant say enough about this great Livermore restaurant. We come in here and it feels like family. That is a rare thing these days. Try any of the specials. Pasta dishes are wonderful. The Demitri's burger is fantastic. Love this place!
(5)Jason A.
Went in to pick up lunch to-go yesterday (Valentines day). Figured they'd be swamped and the order would take a while. Even though almost every table was full, my order was taken and filled quickly and was perfectly done. The full sized Greek salad with gyro meat is second to none!! Love the big slab of feta cheese. Agree with previous reviewer; we don't go here often enough!
(5)Kathy C.
Solid good food. We ordered pastitsio (Greek lasagna) which was absolutely delicious and their chicken cheesesteak which I know doesn't sound Mediterranean at all but the flavors definitely were. The Greek salad was a bit of a disappointment though. Just not as good as what we've tried before. Great location at downtown Livermore too.
(4)Rachael G.
Wow! So impressed! Servers really set the tone for your experience and Trevor was awesome - excellent, fast and enthusiastic service. Food was wonderful too. Started with the dolmathes appetizers. They were fresh and homemade with a delicious sauce. Then we had a Greek dinner salad. Again, very fresh...the vegetables were crisp and flavorful, olives were fresh (not mushy) and the dressing was light - not overdone. Loved the generous portion of feta on top. Then had the Mousaka for an entree. It was so delicious and perfect layers of flavor. Can't wait to go back!
(5)Jasleen M.
All of 5 stars for the service at this place. I have never eaten at this place but have been here quite a few times with friends to just hang out at the bar over a glass of wine. The ambiance is comfortable and cozy and the people working behind the counter are the nicest I have come across. Also - they recommend the best wines to try! One of the Livermore Downtown gems.
(5)M.D. C.
First time here. The best! And asst manager -- Jake's handsomeness just made the experience all that much better!!! Exceptional variety of appetizers and meals. Tricerahops ale A+ paired with the ground meat special!! Can't say enough about this place. I'll be back time and time again. Topped my week. Thank you!
(5)Javier G.
A bit pricy. Tastes good. Good portions.
(3)Daryl C.
I don't know what to say.... This place is so good. I've never had anything bad. When our corporate visitors come, they always request that we order take out from here. Some of them even come back for dinner. On this particular visit I had the Yaiyais Sloppy Fries and Dolmathes as my meal. It was delicious. My only complaint doesn't have anything to do with the restaurant, but the general location is always busy. I recommend parking in the public lot.
(5)Lidiya F.
My husband and I love this place!!! Every time we visit Livermore, this is the place we go to eat at! The owner is always super friendly and always is making sure you're happy! The Gyros are always tasteful and never dry. I love my gyro salad and hubby loves his gyro and pita bread. One thing we absolutely love is the Dolmas!!! We came here for my birthday and the owner joined in on toasting with an Opa! Lol. Next time you order a drink, get the Sexy Alligator! It's sooooo good!!!!!!!
(5)Keisha G.
I love this place! Just went last night and had such a great meal- yummy hummus and pita appetizer, charbroiled chicken dinner, beef and lamb gyro- delish! Everything tastes great, really flavorful and fun atmosphere. We'll be coming back!
(5)Kat N.
Used to go here all the time when I lived near downtown Livermore. I enjoyed the Gyro Salad very much. They have great service and the staff is very friendly. If you're looking for a nice place to go with a special someone, I would definitely recoomend Demitri's!
(4)wendy r.
We just had an awesome time at Dimitri's! Alex and Trevor were awesome - great personal service and authentic Greek food. A definite Opa!!
(5)Leslie H.
Yay! I was really pleased with my lunch at Demitri's Taverna on Friday for lunch. I wasn't sure what to expect when my friend suggested it, but I was excited from the moment I walked in the door. Th inside looks like a friendly neighborhood joint with plenty of solid dark wood tables and chairs. Lots of good smells were wafting around. The server was friendly and efficient in bringing out menus and taking drink orders. He also brought by what was probably my favorite part of the meal: complimentary bread and dip! But this was no ordinary bread and dip. They don't make their own bread, but they do brush the diagonally sliced bread with olive oil and then grill it on their grill. It had a nice char flavor with a hint of garlic, but it wasn't so hard that it cut up my mouth. I also REALLY liked the dip that accompanied the bread, which I googled and discovered is called skordalia and is made from mashed up potato, garlic, and olive oil. It was really good! Even better than hummus! So I definitely scarfed down three pieces in about 5 minutes because I was so hungry. I ordered the chicken soulvaki wrap without onions (which were red slices, not grilled). It came topped with chopped tomatoes and a really good tzatziki sauce. I also got the side of fries which were thick cut but managed to maintain their crispness throughout the meal. The server brought us katsup, but he also brought me ranch when I requested it! Another thumbs up. The service was great throughout. They were super responsive to all of our requests, from straws for our waters, to hot sauce for the wraps. And the food was really good too and reasonably priced at $9.75 for each wrap. I will definitely return!
(5)W B.
Delicious! We stopped in after picking up our Wine at McGraill Vineyard. We both ordered The Gyro and after one bite I ordered extra tzatziki. It was yummy garlicy goodness. I switched the fries for the Greek salad which was fresh and topped with a huge slice of feta. Portions are huge so bring your appetite and be prepared to take some home!
(4)sally r.
This place is fabulous! Their food is outstanding. I actually had them cater 2 dinners for me and everything was perfect! I had gyros (lamb and chicken), Greek salad, stuffed grape leaves and a dipping sample platter. Everything turned out great! Everyone at both dinners comments several times how great the good was. I would order from them again anytime!
(5)Yezmar A.
Another one of my favorites in Livermore, great food, super friendly service. I love the soup, i think it's called avgolemono or something, a nice creamy lemony soup with chicken, must try on a cold day! I've tried most everything on the menu and have not been disappointed once, well, I got this pasta dish once that wasn't that good but then again I don't like pasta. All in all, a solid place to come and eat. They give you this delicious garlic sauce with grilled sourdough to start you off for free, what better way to start a meal:-) If you sit at the bar at the right time you also get a free shot of ouzo to do with everyone else at the bar, opa! I think they do it every hour
(5)djmyk e.
Demitris!! I know Demitri from djin next door at the saloon!! Homeboy is cool as hell' always greeting everybody' askin how your food is and works his ass off!! Hats off to u bro!! FOOD IS BOMB HERE!!!! Just try it out. PERIOD!!!
(5)Frances M.
A few quick notes... 1. Surprisingly good cocktails 2. I always order the gyro & it is fillng 3. Love the bread 4. A few dollars more than I would like to spend for what it is; But, it is a great location & the food is good (plus there is outdoor seating)
(4)Jay N.
Good service. Awesome lamb burger! But it was a special not on the menu. Will return next time I'm in Livermore.
(5)Elissa H.
This place is awesome! My husband and I wandered in last weekend looking for a place to grab dinner. We were informed that there was about a thirty minute wait, but if we'd like to eat at the bar, that would be available immediately. We opted for bar seating and had a blast. The bartender [whose name completely escapes me right now] was very charming and had our drinks on the bar in minutes. Once we ordered our food, we were brought complimentary bread and garlic spread - it was heavenly. It was freezing outside but the bar area was toasty warm and it only got warmer once the bartender poured a few complimentary shots of ouzo for everyone seated in our area. I loved it, but the husband wan't a big fan of the taste. Our food arrived and it did not disappoint! My husband ordered the chicken and sausage pasta and it was delicious! The couple next to him saw his order and then ordered the same thing just based off of how yummy it looked. I got the charbroiled chicken sandwich and it was so delicious that I didn't even offer my husband a bite! I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back again.

New Years Eve dinner at Dimitri's - once again, BEYOND FABULOUS! I had just worked 2 weeks without a day off, and I was so ready to enjoy an evening out with my husband and his parents, to celebrate the New Year! Dimitri's was jumping with happy vibes, but it always is! We were seated immediately, at a quaint table towards the back of the restaurant. Our very jovial, energetic waiter approached us, with the specials that were being offered for the evening. I was so amazingly hungry (I was unable to have any lunch at work that day....), that I wanted to order the entire "specials" menu. The NYE menu, was fabulous and plentiful, and was also accompanied by a delicious glass of champagne, that had a yummy almond flavor to it. We received our food in a timely manner. All dinners were perfectly prepared and presented. The aromas and flavors of each meal was decadent! Towards the end of our meal, Dimitri came by to say a 'hello' and ask how everything was - to which we all gave a hearty "2 thumbs up" reply! He is a very hard working owner, he is always there when we've come in to eat. He clearly loves his restaurant and it shows! I wish the Dimitri's staff, all the very best in 2014 - and a huge 'thank you' for always having a reliable, tasty menu for us to savor over! We'll be back!!!

Before Demitri's, I'd never been to an authentic Greek restaurant. In fact, the closest I'd ever really gotten to Greek food was the Low-Fat Greek Salads at Trader Joe's with the kalamata dressing. Demitri's was a great introduction to the yumminess that is Mediterranean food! It's a bit dark inside and they play light, upbeat Greek music. The restaurant is somewhat small inside, and they have a bar with a TV that's tuned to ESPN, I think. I've never received bad service here- the waitstaff has ALWAYS been friendly and helpful and solicitous. When it comes to food, I'm not very experimental. I'm the type to pick and choose until I find something I like, and then I stick with that until it gets supplanted by a new favorite. That's why, when I go to Demitri's, I always order the gyro. The gyros are absolutely amazing. Picture a Chilupa from Taco Bell. Right? Now picture a fluffier, lighter pita bread. Fill it with a delicious blend of lamb and beef. Add fresh lettuce and tomato. Top with in-house tzatziki sauce (yogurt sauce blended with cucumbers and then dusted with paprika). It comes with your choice of pasta salad or french fries. As if that were a matter of choice! Their french fries are gooooood, and taste pretty good dipped in tzatziki sauce, as well. If you're on a low-carb diet, don't fret- they also have a GYRO SALAD. All the gyro, but none of the bread! Hooray! Oh, speaking of bread, they have bread baskets as free appetizers. I know what you're thinking. Every restaurant serves bread before meals. Well. Demitri's serves their oven-fresh bread with a garlic-potato sauce. Buttery potatoes mashed up with garlic. It's so good. And they're very nice about refilling the bread baskets (though you might regret this once the main course arrives). I hear their desert menu is pretty good but I've never had enough room to try it... I usually leave the restaurant stuffed to point where I eat nothing else that day. For such high-quality food, the price is really quite reasonable. I love this place!
(4)Barbara G.
This place is so good! I am Greek and always find the food so authentic! Service is excellent, everyone is friendly and the food excellent. This visit I had one of the specials which consisted of chicken, lamb chops grilled Greek style (and just like my Mom's!) with Greek vegetables and potatoes. The potatoes were a bit dry but the taste was fantastic! And the grilled bread with garlic spread they serve you is wonderful! OPA Demitri's!!
(5)Kristina M.
I can't rate the food because we never actually got to eat but I can say the service was extremely slow. We sat for 25 minutes and we're never approached by our server. We just left at that point because it seemed people were waiting a while to actually get their food too. The only thing I can say is that they seemed busy and understaffed.
(2)Tammim N.
Great service, great atmosphere, great music. A place where you can go and have a good dinner and drinks with your loved ones. Staff is very friendly and on top of everything. I recommend this place for anyone that wants to have a good time.
(5)Anna C.
So delicious!! My husband and I love Greek food and this place is legit! Service at the end was a little spotty which why I'm giving it 4 stars. Otherwise the food is 5 stars. The owner came by and asked how our meal was and just have him praise. Good job Demetris! And thank you for having the A's game on!
(4)John D.
Pros: Great, fresh food. Full bar. Great, friendly customer service. Cons: A bit more expensive, that's about it. Me and my girlfriend stumbled upon this Greek restaurant joint while strolling the downtown area on a Saturday night. We came in at sat at the bar. Jason was bar tending and was very friendly, engaging, respectful and diligent, nothing but great marks on his part. He also makes decent drinks, which seems redundant to even say, but often you'd be surprised how many "bartenders" can't make a decent drink. My girlfriend and I only ordered their hummus and pita bread but both were fresh and delicious, very flavorful. We will have to try more food options next time because everything being delivered to customers' tables smelled and looked delicious and they're expressions upon delving in did not look disappointed in the least.

I am not sure what I was expecting from Demitri's. This location used to be a Mexican restaurant and minimal changes were made to the interior décor. Very crisp and clean. There is even a painting on the wall that looks like it came straight out of 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'. Our servers name was not Angelo , Paris, or even Hercules. Jorge served us our Skorthalia. I've really only eaten Greek or Mediterranean with friends from those areas. I was expecting Shawarma's and Falafels but none were to be had. Is that typical for Greek establishments? We decided to get a Double Order of Pita Bread with Skorthalia. Don't get too excited about the that though as the serving size of the dip was kinda small at only about 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons. So $2.75 for two small pitas and a small bit of dip. A Chicken Souvlaki and Greek Salad finished the meal. The chicken was very tender, juicy and tasty and the salad was very fresh as well. The salad had tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and olives in a nice light dressing. Overall this is a good choice for lunch ss the portions are not too large leaving you overstuffed. I will have to leave it to the Greeks to decide if it is authentic or Westernized Greek fare.

If I could give more stars I would. This place is and will continue to be one of my favorite restaurants. It is always my go to restaurant in Livermore. They staff if always welcoming and such great energy that you can't help but always smiling while your there! I'm a BIG FAN of their gyro meat! OMG so tasty. Their avgolemono soup is amazing. Also try an ouzo shot or two. Opa!!!!
(5)Jeannine M.
The tzatzki here is unbelievably delicious. The spanakopita is freshly made and is the best I've ever had! We felt a bit rushed at the end of the evening as the place began to clear out however earlier it was so very noisy that we chose to just eat in silence rather than to try to converse over the crowd Certainly not the restaurants fault but we enjoyed the food tremendously

Amazing food and service! My review is long overdue but if you're wondering whether to try it, don't delay!

Stopped in here to catch a bite before a show at the Bankhead Theater. Service was outstanding; we were immediately seated and served quickly. I tried the Veggie Pie and highly recommend this dish. It's like Eggplant Parmesan without the breading and with more veggies. Excellent! My dining partner enjoyed the Gyro Salad that was on the evening's special. She said the gyro meat by itself would have been somewhat boring but was perfect in the salad. Can't wait to bring Mr. S here next time we are in the area. I know he would enjoy it.

Updating all of my favorite restaurants in Livermore, this place serves a killer chicken Slovakia. Love the atmosphere love, the people, and the food is really good. Best recommendation I can give you is to eat here.
(5)Sherry M.
My friend and I had never been so we walked there for lunch. We sat outside. The service was very good and we both enjoyed our food. The bread with their special spread is really different and delicious. I'm definitely coming back to try one of the salads.

Incredible French fries Perfect gyros

Sooooo yummy! The boy & I wandered in last weekend, not really knowing what to expect, and we were pleasantly surprised! Our waitress [couldn't get her name] was awesome & the food was to die for! My favorite was definitely the flamed saganaki, which is basically asiago cheese in olive oil, doused in ouza, set on fire, and then topped with some squeezed lime. Sooooooooo good. Although I enjoyed my gyro & the boy liked his eggplant... thing [basically eggplant lasagna.. but with no noodles & extra delicious cheese] as well. Great food & atmosphere.

This review is long overdue. I was never a fan of Greek food, but this place has changed all that. This is the only place I'll go short of an unnamed overpriced place in SF. I eat out a lot, and there's always a "this place is great, but..." Not here. The food is excellent and the staff/service is exceptional. The downtown location is great and there's a grassy area out front where the kids can play while you wait/eat/hang out. If it were up to my 7 yr old daughter, we'd eat there every night. Everything is good, but my fav's are the, Pastito, Chicken & Sausage pasta (add gyro meat to this and its even better) and the Lamb Chops. If the Calamari steak is the special, get it. If you're going to be in Livermore this is a must. It gets crowded so call ahead if you don't want to wait. Last piece of advice, Ouzo goes well with everything.
(5)Stacy D.
We have LOVED Demitris from day one. The food is always fantastic. The lamb chops and Mediterranean chicken salad are our favorite dishes. The key lime martini is heavenly. The loukoumades are little nuggets of friend sweet dough served warm drizzled with honey. They are a muct have. . The staff always makes us feel like friends.
(5)Garrett S.
This place was a great find. My wife and I wanted to stop somewhere for some lunch, and we found this place. The food was amazing, and priced pretty well, especially for the quality. Service was a tad slow, but they were really busy, so I can't fault them for that. Definitely a great place to grab some greek food. I recommend the burgers.
(5)Valerie M.
I would like to start by saying that the staff at this restaurant was so awesome that their food could have been total crap and I wouldn't have complained. They were friendly, funny, fast--- everything you could want the servers to be! Alex, the kid that sat us, was SO helpful setting up a stroller that our group had, and was so fast with the extra Tzatziki... What's more, he didn't scream in my face when he brought the limes I asked for, and I said "oops, I meant lemons." So hospitable. Although, he DID drop a plate right behind me- he says "accident!" I say "revenge?" :) Dimitri was hilarious, and Shannon was super personable. Now to move on to another, equally important, point: THE FOOD. They bring you grilled bread with this garlic sauce that was so garlicky that it was kinda spicy. YUM! ...but maybe not a great choice for a date? I ordered a gyro and substituted rice pilaf for the fries or pasta salad. The gyro was wonderful- lots of meat, and great Tzatziki (which I ordered more of). The pilaf, not so much. It was a little mushy, and seemed like regular long grain rice instead of the pilaf style. I'm still giving 5-stars, because the rest of the food and service was THAT GOOD. I will definitely return, and bring others.
(5)Rita W.
The chicken pita was the best I ever had! The place was crowded so we ordered from Beer Baron and they bought food over! Can't wait to go again soon!!
(5)A P.
Hi Demetris, No, I have been to your restaurant five times now, and have enjoyed it each time! The food and service are consistently excellent, and I have brought different people with me who have remarked on how much they like it too. This last time your server was especially friendly and really made our dining experience memorable. I have tried a few other tasty dishes, but my favorite is your gyros and fries. Looking forward to coming back!
(4)R T.
nothing special. A good example of location generating the revenue and not the food which is average at best. They right smack in center if town.
(2)Mark D.
I tried the gyro wrap which came with fries on the side for $10.95. The fries, while they were hot and crispy, were just ordinary. Both the gyro sandwich and the tsaziki sauce were tasty and well prepared. Portion was decent and the prices were a tad high but the excellent service made up for it. The restaurant has a nice clean feel to it and is centrally located in downtown Livermore.

This is our go-to restaurant when the hubs and I host hungry friends and family. It has something for everybody - picky and adventurous eaters alike. Great location, delicious food and Dimitris and the rest of his crew are friendly and attentive. Full bar with local beer and wine. Patio is small, and dog friendly. The bar has a TV for sports fans. Cute ambiance and food is priced well for what you get. If you order the gyros (extra tzatziki please!) or any sandwich where you get your choice of fries or pasta salad, pick the pasta salad. It has lots of feta and chopped olives. Delicious. The avgolemono soup (chicken soup with a lemon/egg base) is perfect on a chilly day, whereas the Greek Salad (get it with gyros instead of chicken!) is amazing on a hot summer day - they give you a big old hunk of feta! With your meal you get complimentary olive oil toasted bread with a side of skordalia - a Greek potato, garlic and olive oil spread. Yum! When the mood is right, sit at the bar and chat it up with your fellow patrons and the bartenders. The bartenders, by the way, are HILARIOUS, friendly and super fun. And if the timing is right, you just might find yourself with some complimentary shots of Ouzo - a Greek anise-flavored liqueur that kinda tastes like absinthe or sambuca, but way smoother and more delicious. Opa!
(5)Leeann B.
The best greek restaurant around!! Food is consistently delicious. Our server, Shannon, is so friendly and accommodating and she always makes the perfect recommendations. She's a gem! We only get out there every few months but she remembered us on only our second visit! Now THAT is service! I'd give this restaurant 10 stars if I could!! The bifteki, gyro and moussaka are delicious and the flaming cheese appetizer is so good! Great selection of Greek beer too!! Update: Dimitri's you're doing something right. We'll be there again in early November and I don't know what to have! I love trying new things, so I'll take one of your other guest's advice and close my eyes and point!!!
(5)Paul F.
Very overrated. We had lunch here. First off the wine we ordered came with loads of cork in it !!! Both mine and my wife's glass. Then the menu had a very limited choice on it unless you want a gyro. So I opted for the pork pitta with fries. Set me back just over 10 bucks !! Was pleasant sitting outside the restaurant I but I have had better Greek in my time and definitely at a fair price rather than rip off. Then in the afternoon I took a turn for the worse and was really feeling ill not sure if it was the restaurant or not but something upset my stomach and me.
(1)Ben X.
We frequent this place often and have always been impressed with the food and service. Every dish I've had has been excellent. Heck the bread and hummus that they give you as an appetizer when you sit is even something I look forward to when I dine there. Highly recommended for Greek Food lovers.
(5)Bob K.
Again, I'm amazed that it's taken me so long to review this place, since we either go here or (more often) get take-out. Our go-to dish is the chicken souvlaki, and I'm always impressed at how well it still tastes and holds together several minutes after picking it up and taking it home. The tzatziki is creamy and excellent, and The Wife always asks for extra to dip her fries in. I usually get a side of pasta salad for Blondie. We also usually get an extra Greek salad, which is the right balance of peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers, with a seriously helathy sized chunk of feta on top. While dining in, I've frequently had the special, or perhaps the bifteki or mousaka, and it's always good. It's also served by the friendliest waitstaff in town - how could you not love a waitress (Shannon!) who will do a shot of ouzo with you? Finally the baklava is huge and incredibly good - that rates five stars for dessert.
(4)Andy W.
better than the other place in town. I need to try something besides gyros to give a better review of the food. the service was excellent and the other employees seemed pretty cool too. one or two stopped by to talk to us just for kicks.
(4)Jessica S.
Love love love this place! First time trying Greek food & im obsessed Everything is so fresh well prepared Tess was our waitress and she was super helpful since we were first timers! Great customer service and great food Found my new spot
(5)Rebecca H.
Not the best Greek food ever. Bread and garlic butter are delicious, but the rest of the meal, meh. The gyro was tasteless. They must have forgot salt and seasonings that day. The fries were lukewarm and had no seasoning. Greek food is anything but boring , but today's lunch was snoozeville. Plus the music was too loud so we had to scream to be heard. Nothing bad, so it's ok, but not great.
(3)Jen H.
3.5 solid stars We were hungry hippos after our Yosemite trip, so it was nice to actually have a sit down meal. Livermore downtown is a very cute place. Ordered: 1) Hummus (with olives) and pita (with some sort of garlic dipping sauce): 3/5 2) House bread was delicious--maybe we were hungry.... 3) Chicken Souvlaki-3/5--I wasn't TOO impressed with this dish--too much carb, not enough protein 4) Fried Zucchini- 4/5 Never disappointed with fried zucchini! Delish
(4)Marcella B.
Excellent! Had the Yai Yai's vegetarian pie. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. Can't wait to go back to try other featured dishes.
(5)Dana M.
wonderful restaurant. Nice casual warm environment. the best moussaka I ever had. My significant other ordered the lamb chops and was blown away. I was fortunate to have a bite of his lamb and I would have to agree that they were quite delicious. thank you !!
(5)Sean T.
Could it be any more perfect. The service, lemonade and of course the food.. OH MY... The Chicken from the grill was so good. I hurt myself eating the food. I can tell you that the pasta salad was good and I am a stickler for pasta salad. Not over seasoned with dressing, good texture and it was fresh. Good Fries! Great lamb, and beef. They got my vote. The vegetables from my wife's plate was so good great red bellpeppers, squash and onions.. The Baklava was off the hook, I ate it today, a day later almost forgot about it.... Loved... Loved...It
(5)Theresa S.
Two stars because it looked clean, and the food tasted fresh. The food was fine, but the whole experience would have been better if I received what I actually ordered. Maybe our server Alex was "out to lunch" like we were. Three of us dining for lunch. Our friend talked up the place, one of his favorite Livermore restaurants, so we went here for lunch. I knew that when we were seated in the back of the restaurant we were going to get lousy service. Yup, I was right! Before we ordered, our friend told Alex, our server, to please split the check so he could pay for himself, then my husband and I on the second check. Alex was happy to do that. I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad, but with the Greek dressing, not the olive oil dressing. My husband ordered the same salad, but with no dressing change. My husband received the correct salad, instead I was given the Prawn Salad with Greek dressing. Our friend ordered the Tri Tip sandwich, but not with fries, with rice instead. He received fries, no rice. We had to ask for drink refills after our glasses sat empty for about 10 minutes. We only received one refill on drinks. When our server, Alex, came back to check on us, I told him that what I had in front of me, the Shrimp Salad, was not what I ordered. He gladly took it back. I did specify I wanted to substitute the olive oil dressing for Greek dressing on my Chicken Cobb salad. When I received my second salad, it had olive oil dressing, not Greek. Actually, I thought that it didn't have any dressing at all. When he came back again, I told him that I didn't think I had any dressing, but he told me that it was olive oil. I told him that I ordered the Greek Dressing, he said, "Yeah, that's our Greek dressing, an olive oil." FINE! Even though it was STILL WRONG I kept my salad. The chicken was good, the greens were fresh, but still, NOT WHAT I ORDERED! He did finally refill our drinks (once) and bring the rice my friend ordered. When it was time for the check, Alex, our server, walked over with one check, got ready to set it down, then took it back and said, "I forgot to split the check. I'll be right back." (Yeah, not the only thing you forgot!). When our separate check came Alex handed me the check and said, "I took off that salad, you didn't get charged for it." I thought, "Oh, nice, because he made the mistake and I had to wait another 15 minutes while the rest of my party ate their food, he's not charging me for the salad." No, he meant he took off the Shrimp Salad, the one I DIDN'T order in the first place! Oh, thank you for not charging me for SOMETHING I DIDN'T ORDER!!! Bad service is the reason why we avoid Livermore restaurants. At least I can say we were not disappointed, that it lived up to what almost all the Livermore restaurants give us, bad service. I don't know if I'll go back. I don't like being ignored and when I order, I like getting what I ordered. I like more than one glass of water. It's a shame I had to ask for more water! I'm disabled, so parking is HORRIBLE! Really disappointed, our friend who loves this restaurant was embarrassed too.
(2)Christina L.
I was not impressed at all by this place. It's overpriced and not very good. I got the hummus as an appetizer and it was tiny! It was a couple pieces of un-toasted pita and a small scoop of hummus. For my entree, I ordered the chicken pita meal. The waiter we had asked us if we wanted pasta, fries, or garlic fries with our meal. I didn't see the garlic fries as an option, but assumed since he asked us if we wanted it that it was some kind of special or something. Later on, we found out that the garlic fries were actually an extra $3. I don't mind paying more for it, but I thought it was kind of deceptive of him to not tell us that it's not actually a side that comes the meal. As for the food, the chicken was dry and they were pretty stingy on the tzaziki sauce. The fries were INCREDIBLY oily. I mean it tasted delicious but my arteries are probably clogged now. There were a couple of fries where I bit into my fry and oil literally started leaking down my mouth hahaha it was pretty gross.

If I had to pick my top 5 favorite foods Greek would not make that list. Why the five stars? Because Demitri's does everything a good restaurant should do, but with Greek food and because of that they are one of my favorite restaurants in Livermore. The service is incomparable. All of the staff is friendly, attentive, helpful, personable, and professional. Whatever the personality match or training is here, every restaurant should learn the secret of fantastic staff because they are an extension of the restaurant itself. The food is really delicious. Like I said, I'm not one to crave Greek food, but what they have is so darn tasty. I don't know what is in their homemade pasta salad, but to quote Stuart MacKenzie from 'So I Married an Axe Murderer'.... "he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smarta--" There is something in that pasta salad that has the goods on me. My new favorite to get is the Gyro Bites. I love Gyros, but I like being able to make each bite something different. My daughter enjoys the Mediterranean burger and we kick up the volume on that bad boy when I give her some of my extra gyro meat. I really hope we're not creating an unholy alliance that would offend Greeks. The Taziki is absolutely delightful. I'd put that on everything if I could. BTW, Demitri's Gyro is what finally got my husband to eat raw tomatoes. I'm not kidding.... in our almost 23 years together he's never ONCE willingly eaten a raw tomato... not even the ones I grow in our garden. Demitri's is also super dog friendly. We've been there with our pup and they bring water out to the patio just on principle. Since Darwin is just like family it always means so much to me when someone thinks of him too. Oh, the grilled bread and Skordalia dip that is served when you are seated is amazing! Pro Tip: my daughter LOVES to dip her french fries in the Skordalia dip for SPUDCEPTION! You're welcome.
(5)Laura M.
Love Demitri's. I'm Greek and feel their food is fairly authentic. The lamb chops were really great! Definitely worth getting. The bread and feta spread is sooo yummy! That comes with your water before the meal. The only critique is their spanakopita. It has the strangest flavor. I grew up eating Greek food and I could not place the odd taste of this which was a disappointment because I really love spanakopita. I really wish they served stuffed Greek peppers. Hint hint Demitri! But all in all, I think the food here is a good value and tasty. Oh and vegetarians would adore the veggie pie. Yum!

I don't know what to make of this place. I like it alright. I come here once every few months to have a nice lunch outside with my boyfriend and dog. Out of the couple times we've been here, the servers have always been so nice and attentive, but we usually don't come during super busy hours. My problem is that this place seems to charge a little higher, prices that would be better suited to a slightly more upscale restaurant perhaps, or at least one with a little bit more finesse. But at the same time, the food portions are kinda meh and not as delicious as it should be. The food here is pretty good, nothing that really wows me. The pita that comes with the hummus is plain and untoasted, and feels like pita bread that they bought from the store and cut up. Def not freshly made. And the hummus portion is so small (and that stuff is cheap to make...its just chickpeas). Ironically the most delicious thing I've tried there is their free bread and this potato or cauliflower puree thing that is just soooo good I've had to order a side of it. Their sausage appetizer is pretty good too. Their gyros are just okay, a bit on the dry and bland side I think. I think that Demitri's Taverna has a lot of potential, but I feel like it doesn't know what it wants to be. Either be slightly more high-end with a nicer indoor atmosphere and perfected waitstaff to justify the price OR lower the prices a bit, bang out larger portions of food, keep it casual, and make it all about the unquestioningly delicious food. People will always be loyal to large, fresh portions obviously made with love, even if it's not fancy. The food to me has always just been okay, and I can from the food that there's a lot of "cost-cutting". (Also, better just go with the fries as a side. I didn't really like the pasta salad...And I normally love pasta salad.)
(3)Sam A.
Came in on a Sunday afternoon. There was a slight little lunch rush but we were seated quickly. our server was very nice and she was able answer any questions we had on the menu. I really like how she wasnt writing anything down and was just remembering all the little details of our order. We started out by ordering an Appetizer simple Hummus and pita. The pita bread was lightly toasted and came with only a few pieces (6-8 at the most) with a small amount of hummus on a lettuce leaf. The hummus was very good and tasted more natural than any other hummus that I am used to. They also brought out some complimentary bread with a side of garlic spread which was very good! I decided on their special of the day: Lamb burger. I order it rare and substitute the side dish for a Greek salad instead. The Salad was great! came out with huge pieces of Feta cheese with spinach, onions, tomatoes and olives. The burger was good as well. The only thing i didnt really enjoy about it was that it was too big. It had a half piece of tomato in it, and the meat was very thick that it was impossible to take a bite and had to eat it with a fork, Also the meat was very well done (which i did not order nor do i like to eat it like that) it was pretty rough to chew it and swallow it. The burger fell apart in the end that i ended up just eating the patty, the burger is too big.. Other than that the service was great and the food was good. One of the bunch of restaurants that downtown livermore has to offer!
(4)Jim K.
Great ambience and location. Look out for the daily specials - when offered, don't miss the kebobs with rice, or the pastichio. On the routine menu, the dolmathes are the best item.
(5)Ray P.
Came on a Sunday afternoon and they were not busy so we got seated right away. Our server was very nice. She answered all our questions about the menu and also gave us plenty of time to decide. We started with an order of the hummus and pita. the pita bread was warm and lightly toasted and the hummus was excellent. I'm not sure what they put in it, but theer hummus is a much darker color than what we're used to. They also gave us complimentary bread with a garlic mashed potato spread. It was a nice surprise because not many restaurants provide complimentary bread baskets. Being complimentary, it was absolutely delicious!!!! But we had to keep from eating a lot of it because we still had the food. My partner ordered the lamb burger with a Greek salad, which was their special of the day. The burger was HUGE!!!! I didn't try it, but my partner said it was good. The only thign was he ordered it rare and it came well-done. We didn't complain because we were hungry. The side Greek salad was a big serving as well. It was pretty good and i was surprised it had big slices of feta cheese! Most of the time, Greek salads only come with a few crumbs of feta. The salad was very refreshing and the amoutn of the dressing was just right. I had the gyro sandwich with a side of the garlic feta fries. The sandwich itslef was huge and I like that they didn't skimp on the tzatziki sauce. I was a little disappointed though that it didn't come with any lettuce. But the sandwich was very good! The gyro meat was not salty nor tough. It was very flavorful! The garlic feta fries were sooooo good!!!!!! I would've preferred more feta, but that's just me! Overall, our experience was very good. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. My partner's 3-year old nephew even got free ice cream! I'll probably come back when I'm in Livermore again.
(4)D.J. M.
My wife and I live near by, and this is one of our favorite spots on the Livermore strip. Reliable food, excellent daily specials, a great selection of local wines and beers on tap, and a great staff. The happy hours menu and prices are very reasonable for Gyro Bites, Dolmathes, etc. The bad news: getting in on Friday or Saturday evening without a reservation can mean a lengthy wait. But a prop tip: give them your number and you can go to one the the adjacent wine or beer bars and hang out until your table is ready. Another pro tip: eat at the bar and the ever-amazing Shannon will offer free shots of Ouzo if you promise to toast OPA!
(5)mitra f.
Only got the spreads and olive appetizer so I can't comment extensively. It was good but rather salty. Waitstaff was very nice.
(3)Brian C.
Great food, atmosphere, and servers; best location in Livermore! Their specials are always so amazing!! One qualifier though: You gotta like Livermore downtown. Good outdoor seating. And great job serving, Trevor!!
(5)Judy H.
If there was ever a dish that had my name all over it, it would be the Chicken Souvlaki from Demitri's. Yeah, I'm considering changing my name to Chicken Souvlaki. This dish is THAT freaking fantastic! The grilled chicken is wrapped in a warm pita bread with thinly sliced tomatoes, red onions, and an amazing tzatziki sauce. It is also served with fries or pasta salad. Before I go any further into my new name, let me rewind. I came to Demitri's for lunch on a Saturday with a girlfriend. The place was just starting to fill up. We were seated right away, and our waiter brought us a basket of toasted bread and a strong garlic dip. Slather some of that garlic spread on the bread and oh boy. Try to stop eating! My friend and I both ordered the traditional pitas. She opted for the gyro, which was delicious with slabs of roasted beef and lamb meat. She was too full to touch her pasta salad so Demitri's portions are very generous as well. Now let's return to my Chicken Souvlaki. Good lawd. This was SO tasty! The chicken was moist and tender, the pita bread was lightly toasted, and the tzatziki sauce brought it all together. The ingredients and sauce just meshed so well together--exactly like the Greek gods intended. I ordered fries instead of the pasta salad for my side dish simply because I love fries, but you'll get your fill of carbs either way. The fries were sizzling hot and crisp. They were the perfect thickness. All other fries out there should try to emulate these crunchy slithers of potato heaven. So if I haven't made my case already, Demitri's Taverna provides some homey and authentic Greek food and a Chicken Souvlaki that will leave your taste buds buzzing. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back!
(5)Susan B.
I think the fried calamari was really nice, not chewy, but crisp. It came served with a yogurt based sauce and a hot tomato sauce. The grilled chicken sandwich was OK. The gyros was OK. The servers were really nice and the place was clean. It was A-OK.
(3)Robert M.
Bread was burnt Pasta was 5.5/10 Burger was 3/10 Too much ice in soft drink Soda was flat But the french fries were pretty good
(1)Michelle C.
Great authentic Greek food, honestly I've never been a fan of Greek food but I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area!
(4)Leslie L.
I'm a huge fan of the Gyro Caesar Salad-among many other menu items-but the last two times I have had it I've been completely disappointed. The meat was sparse, and extremely dry, as were the (day old??) pita chips that went along with it. The worst was the day I brought several friends there to specifically try out this "great" salad-and was completely embarrassed by the salads that were presented to us. Please "unchanged" what you've done and make it the great salad that it once was. I noticed a few other reviewers have commented on the dry meat-hopefully you read you reviews and make the necessary changes.
(3)Madeline S.
Great spot in downtown Livermore. I've only been here a couple of times, but every time the service is great and the food is yummy, with really large portions. Their cucumber Moscow mule is amazing, the perfect pairing for my gyro :)
(4)Riley G.
Great Greek food in a friendly setting. This is my second visit; both times before events at Bankhead Theater. The staff is very friendly, and the food is very good and a good value. THere's a bar inside, and it an be noisy. There is patio dining in front, although too windy this day.
(4)David P.
The food was excellent. The staff was very friendly and I felt very welcomed. If you want a good lamb burger, this is the spot.
(5)Alfie F.
Love the soup and followed it with the flaming cheese. Perfect combination, only thing missing was the wine.
(4)Amy J.
I think I found a new Mediterranean place! I stopped in with a co-worker and we both enjoyed our meals. I got a pita with a falafel substitute which was quite tasty. My co-worker had the lamb burger special which was like a regular burger but a little better. You get quite a bit of food for a reasonable price. I'll try something different next time when I am not on a schedule. The staff were friendly and helpful especially with recommendations. There's an outdoor patio for those nice days.
(4)Rich M.
My 100th review. Demitri's Tavern in Livermore...where have you been all my life? Had a terrific burger on Saturday the 9th of August 2015. My son had a equally wonderful Gyro that he is still talking about. Had an absolutely beautiful waitress name of Shannon treat us like we were family. Food was hot...fresh...delicious....and priced very fairly. Well done Dimitri.
(5)Darlynn C.
We have been going to Demitri's Taverna since they opened. From the first day, they have had good food, a great selection of wines and beers, and staff is always helpful and friendly. We take friends from out of town to this restaurant. Our favorites are Gyros, but enjoy trying different items each time we go.
(5)Aeri S.
5 star food without the 5 star tude. Service was great! Shout out to our server Antonio for the best recommendations on the menu. Loved the gyro bites especially. Hostess was Alexi.. super accommodating even though we didn't have a reservation and the place was slammed. Thanks! Prices are very affordable, portions are just right. Everything was super flavorful, too. Will be back.
(5)Mr V.
Love coming here and the service is always great, the main waitress who usually takes care of me and my friends or family is Shannon; she always has such a great attitude, provides excellent service and remembers my Tricerahops. Its always nice to come in and be welcomed by someone of her caliber.
(5)William P.
This local restaurant is trying to pass itself of as a ´true' Greek restaurant by having Greek styled menu And it does have the names The food on the other hand is served in large portions. but the food is only marginal to taste. The lamb chops came dried out..the salads came out maybe slightly less than fresh..the spanakopita..well could not figure out this..hummis..not good.bread burnt. The waitstaff was the only good that i could rate here
(1)Mr K.
Ate here once on a previous stay in Livermore. The food is ok and the prices are reasonable. Service was good. It's definitely solid, but nothing that will blow your socks off.
(3)Jim B.
Great place. Has become our companies favorite for luncheons.
(5)Lacy H.
Amazing Greek food! I am gluten free by choice but if I'm going to cheat, demitris is the only place I will!! Pastitsio is amazing, moussaka, spanakopita, hummus, dolmades, the Greek fries, etc. All insanely amazing! Demitri is so nice and accomodating. We come here for my birthday every year! Amazing!

A friendly, upbeat staff, a nice atmosphere, and stellar food! I come here often enough to have a few servers recognize me and am always greeted by friendly faces. The service is great and the food is awesome. It does get pretty loud sometimes near the bar area, but we normally eat outside anyways. I've always had a good experience here!

Super yummy. I am a fan! Super friendly staff and tzaziki sauce to die for! Highly recommend. Though, for a healthier option, make sure and request they do not drench your pita in butter, mine was dripping in it, and kind of grossed me out.

Great food. The gyros are awesome. Great prices. I love this place, and so does my wife.

This place is just ok...not great, but not horrible either. Came here with the lady on a weeknight, and it was pretty packed, which is always a good thing. I've never been a fan of quiet restaurants, and this place had just the right mood. Service was excellent, the servers friendly, and I liked the feel of the place. The food however, left just a little bit to be desired. First off, shared a greek salad with the lady, and it was really tasty. Set our expectations up high, with delicious tomato, cucumber, and a large cut of feta. I almost wish there was a bit more arugula, but it was tasty nonetheless. The entrees were a bit of a disappointment; the lamb burger was a bit tough, and had too much feta for her liking, whereas my chicken gyro had too much chicken and not enough of anything else. Balance was just out of proportion for both dishes, but still it's a solid greek establishment in the area.

We were walking 1st street in Livermore, and had worked up an appetite. I resorted to my Yelp Bookmarks and chose Demitri's Taverna for lunch. We were really craving some gyro's! The restaurant is cute. It's fairly large and there is seating both indoors and out. We didn't have to wait in a line, and were seated right away. I loved the nice warm bread and garlic/butter aioli. We were promptly waited on and placed an order for gyros and a side of fried zucchini. They offer the option to split an order for $1.00. We split the gyros to allow room for ice cream later. The food surprised me, and exceeded my expectations in a big way. I loved the flavors, and it tasted pretty darn fresh. We were equally pleased with the service here and our meals were lovely. We will definitely come back again in the future!

Probably my favorite place to eat in Livermore. Fun atmosphere in the heart of downtown with outdoor seating option. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, and they always seem to make it more of an experience that just a meal. I love the Souvlaki, and the Taverna Lamb Chops are unbelievable. My girlfriend is a big fan of the Gyro Bites and the Ouzo shots lol. Went here last night for a friend's birthday dinner and had yet another great experience. Our server recommended one of the specials, a tri-tip pita that was no joke, the best meal I've had in months. She checked on us often and was a sweetheart too. Dmitri himself even stopped by our table to say happy birthday and make sure we were enjoying our visit. I strongly recommend this place, lunch or dinner. Opa!

So I celebrated my birthday here and it was a blast! Not only everyone love their food but the waitress who served us was beyond nice! We got 2 rounds of free shots! If you planning to have a good time and good food I recommend this place.

Hands down, the best dining experience I've had in a long time! As mentioned by other reviewers, all of the staff here is extremely friendly and accommodating. Our server, Antonio, was especially helpful! My friend just recently discovered an allergy to gluten and dairy, and Antonio ensured that her meal would be tailored to her dietary restrictions. The owner was also walking around checking on tables, keeping the mood lively and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves and their food. If I could give a bonus star for awesome hands-on management I would! I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita and shared an order of pita and hummus. Everything came out quickly, and all of the plates were so bright with fresh ingredients. The only issue I had with my meal was trying to take my first bite of my pita because it was so huge-- but I'm not complaining! The portions were very generous, and the food was all flavorful and well-seasoned. I thought there was a great balance of flavors from the pita, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The tzatziki sauce was a standout because of the blend of flavors that made it nice and tangy! Thank you Dimitris, Antonio and the rest of the staff at Demitri's, for a fantastic meal! I can't wait to visit again soon!

Please, please, please, more dairy free options! I really like the food/service, but as someone who dines with a person who can't have dairy more often than not, this is a place that we unfortunately have to avoid because of the lack of options for them! I really like the food, but it's very hard to sell someone on the idea of "you can nibble on some lettuce leaves and watch me devour a gyro".

My family and I went here yesterday for appetizers (we got the fries), and everything was absolutely delicious, including that yummy bread + butter they give you before your meal! I don't know what the butter is made of, but it's absolutely perfect! I've come here before many times, and usually end up getting the gyros, which I must say are the best gyros you'll probably find around here, I haven't had a better one yet. They are a safe bet if you're looking for a guaranteed delicious item. ;)
(5)Melissa P.
OH MY YUMMMMM!!!! Best gyros EVER! Hummus was also REALLY good! Went with my husband and two picky kids and everyone was happy! Including my ultra picky 9 year old who through bites said "I'm satisfied" with a big thumbs up! (Coming from him that's saying a lot!) Staff is super friendly and attentive and they have cool crayons to occupy the kiddos. My only suggestion is to get some heaters for the outside patio. It was really crowded inside so we ate outside and were very cold. We hardly noticed after we got our food however, it was so good we noticed nothing else lol!

Located in dt Livermore, Demitri's is a must-go if you're ever in the neighborhood. Gyros souvlaki - enwrapped in a fluffy warm pita, diced tomatoes, thin sliced onions, amazing yet light tzatiki sauce, side of pasta salad. Nice proportions. Some of the freshest gyros I've had in the Bay Area. Yaiyai veggie pie - Layers of potatoes, spinach , zucchini, eggplant, tomato with shredded parmesan and covered with mozzarella with side of rice & capers. A hearty serving of veggies all in one. A delight to have if you're okay with cheese. Very filling.

A great spot in Downtown for lunch or dinner! The location is perfect if you want a casual dinning experience without breaking the bank. Lots of delicious food that you don't normally eat at a reasonable price. (Kids meals also include free ice cream). My most recent trip here was during the nostalgia days car show. Walking around checking out all those beautiful cars make me and my family hungry! We had the slovaki and gyro and the kids had buttered pasta. You get a free appetizer (grilled bread with a delicious garlic spread) and it really set the tone for all the flavors you'll be tasting. Service was great and the food was awesome. Definitely worth checking out if you like or have never had Greek food!

Excellent food, and even better service. The lamb chops are not to miss. The specials often even top the quality of the standard menu so be sure to check the board on your way in. Nice to be so catered to, where other small establishments in the area falter, this place always picks up the slack. Doesn't hurt that their full bar also cranks out some of the best cocktails on town. Order a Moscow Mule and you'll even get a copper mug.
(5)Mitch C.
My wife and I love to go there for a delicious meal. It does not matter what you order, it is good! We especially like their gyros. It is great!
(5)Suki B.
Good Greek food...definitely not the best...but, good! Our waitress: Friendly! She told me that if I didn't like my Sangria, she would remake it for me because she was better than the bartender. I didn't like it, so she made it, and it was better. Food: Greek Salad - So good! Humongous chunk of feta on top. Super delish. Fried Zucchini - Typical fried zucchini. Nothing extraordinary. Chicken Souvlaki Pita Sandwich - Pretty good. I'm a bit biased since I have a favorite Greek place that makes an amazing CSPS - it didn't live up to my favorite, but it was still good. I love going to restaurants in Livermore while I'm back home visiting my parents. I think we'll definitely come back here again.

Great food! Loved the appitizer selection we ordered. But very slow and forgetful service.
(3)Patricia A.
Because my husband and I were craving greek food, we looked up restaurants on yelp and found this gem. I ordered gyros and souvlaki pitas with garlic/feta fries!! Both the pitas were delicious and the fries were out of this world. We absolutely loved the meals! The tzatziki was fantastic!! The food was on par with greek food from Germany. We've always tried to find the perfect place to satisfy our craving for greek food from Germany and this place was it!! Great place and food!! I can't wait to go back :)
(5)Cass R.
Being my Mother is Greek I was raised with much of this type of food in the home. I have yet to find a restaurant that was authentic ! Til now! Soooo good must give them a try :)
(5)Kaori M.
Enjoyed huge chicken burger. I hiked 30 miles (Mission Peak to Del Valle) and stopped by here. It's always good to eat big portion after burning lots of calories. Although I gained more than I burned but still nice! The service was great.

Soooooooooooooo Good! You will not be disappointed here. The Food is amazing! The staff is friendly! Can't get enough of this place. Great job D!
(5)Emily O.
I have been meaning to try Demitri's for ages, I had multiple people tell me how great it it. They were so right! I loved everything we had. The service was excellent, and it felt open and not crowded inside. I'd love to sit on the patio next time. My boyfriend and I each had the daily specials. I got a petrasole with a yummy sauce, rice and veggies (I loved the zuchinni, green beans that came with) and my boyfriend got the chicken kabob. I have to say this was the BEST titziki (pretty sure I messed up that spelling) sauce I've ever had. Dinner also came with bread and a delicious spread that I can't recall the name of. Top it off with some complimentary ouzo and you've got amazing meal. Yum! Can't wait to go back to try more of their expansive menu.

Great gyro, great service and great happy hour 4-6 m-f Gyro bites are great very happy with everything here. If you find yourself in The area do yourself a favor and eat here. Not pricey either.
(5)Kendall R.
Love the gyros and the staff are friendly and fun! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Livermore...Opa!
(5)Victoria P.
Love them, excellent food, service!!!!
(5)S D.
This a casual sit down Greek restaurant. I have been there twice. I have found the food excellent. My wife had Chicken Souvaki and was very impressed. The pita was fresh cooked and the chicken tender and well spiced. I have had the Bifteki a while ago and remember being very pleased with the spicing. Recently I had the Gyros Pasta. The sauce was very well cooked. The gyros meat was flavorful. While we waited we were served pita bread and hummus which was tasty and light enough not to spoil the meal. The service was generally attentive. I found it a good value for the meal. The one downside and it was big enough to drop it two stars was that it was way too loud to have a decent conversation with someone sitting next to me or across from me. On both occasions, a group by the bar got raucous with groups doing shots. The acoustic environment amplified the noise of those loud groups across the restaurant. Since it was the second time, I can only assume this is regular practice. I like the food, but if we have food from here, I will order take out.
(3)Francis C.
Came here peak time on Saturday night by myself. Got seated in about 10 minutes and waited another 10 minutes but no waiter came. Plenty walked past me. Hostess checked on me a couple of times but then I got up and left.
(1)Tasha K.
The gyro and pasta salad were delicious and well made; however, the portions were a little small. The place was packed, and there were only three waiters, so the service was slow. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable but nothing outstanding.
(3)Sheila D.
I came here with my daughter for a quick light lunch before our show at the Bankhead last Sunday. We didn't want to eat too much since we were meeting friends at Sauced! after our show. What a charming little restaurant. I could really believe that we were actually on a Greek island! I ordered the greek salad and a side of french fries for us to share. Our very friendly server was prompt, attentive and energetic. He brought out some grilled bread with a garlic butter spread on the house. I thought it was a bit weird that it was grilled french bread and not pitas, but it sure was yummy! The salad was really tasty... smaller than I expected but with a tasty dressing, lots of tomatoes, peppers and kalamata olives. The feta cheese was a giant square on top of the salad. Never seen that before but maybe it's a Greek thing! The french fries were really tasty and a generous portion. Oh I also got a yummy bloody mary! I definitely want to come back for a real meal sometime....
(4)Ilya G.
Demitri's is our go-to place for Greek food, whether it's a weekday lunch or date night. I recommend Ya-ya's veggie pie! The atmosphere is very lively and it can sometimes be a bit loud, but we always have a good time.
(4)dave j.
Coffee why can't I get a cup of coffee? At least two months sense last visit and still no coffee. And worse when I get up from a chair why is my silt shirt sticking to the chair? Oh maybe it's the filth on the chair. Scrap you finger nail on the chair top and see for your self. Filthy and it reflects upon the food. Frankly the moussaka was better when they opened than it is now. It's passable but not the 'how wow' it was when the restaurant was new. Can't recommend it any longer. No thank you.
(2)James G.
Flies Everywhere outside. Could not enjoy our meal spent the whole time swatting flies off our food. They really need to rent a power washer and not only wash their area but the boozing establishments on both sides. The spilled food and beverage appears to be what's attracting all of the Flies. Sitting outside on a warm on windy day is unbearable. Other than that, we really like Dimitris the food is Delicious!!
(4)Alexandra S.
Best Greek food around! I swear they have my grandma hiding in the kitchen doing all of the cooking! Love love love

We stopped by for lunch about two weeks ago. This restaurant is right by the First Street Fountain. We sat outside & the weather was perfect. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He did have a heavy accent and was a bit hard to understand. He brought our some grilled bread, which was okay, but not hot off the grill. We started off with a small Greek salad and Avgolemono, which is Greek chicken lemon soup. The salad was fresh and had lots of premium stuff: kalamata olives & Greek cheese, ripe tomatoes. The dressing was delicious. So glad we ordered this! The lemon soup was delicately flavored. You could tell it was made from scratch. We enjoyed this too. DH got a gyro plate ($11.75), which is one of their most popular items. The gyro meat was flavorful and fatty in a good way, lol! We wished there was more of the tangy tzatziki Greek yogurt dip. The fries were seriously HOT and delicious, as other reviewers have mentioned. We also got a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which was on tap. Pretty good size beer for $4.75. Served frosty. Overall, a really nice place to have lunch and relax in Downtown Livermore. Good ambience, good service, tasty food, not too expensive considering the location ($16/head before tip).
(5)Jaqk T.
Nice ambiance good food. This place has really good food. Prices are slightly on the higher side but not too bad. The only thing that was slightly lacking was the service. The waiters/hostess seemed to be disorganized and we were waiting for our waiter a few times for a good 10 minutes when there weren't many tables to wait on. Overall, it's on the + side of 3 stars so I give it a 4 and would be back.

Thank goodness I called because the hours on their website were incorrect. It says they close at 9 everyday but it was a Saturday and apparently they are open until 10. We got here 6 minuets before they closed but they let us come in to eat. We ordered quickly and the food came out so fast! We both got gyros with lamb and they were delicious. We licked our plates clean. I would highly recommend this place for a quick late night bite. Though our server didn't ask us if we needed anything else or how our food was- until we were already finished, but I think it was because we devoured it so fast. Side note; really weird music for a Mediterranean restaurant. I think it was rock.
(5)Samantha C.
One of the best Greek restaurants around. Place is nice and clean, employees are friendly and helpful, and the food is on point. We ordered the flamed saganaki, I ordered the side Greek village salad, and my BF ordered the gyro Caesar salad. The saganaki was amazing! It was so cheesy and so good, especially with the soft chewy pita bread. My Greek village salad was delicious and it was the perfect portion. My BF's gyro Caesar salad was really good too, but some parts of the gyro meat was a bit dry. Salads itself were fresh and crunchy though.
(4)Andy H.
Avgo Lemono like Yiayia made. Skordalia that you wish Yiayia made. My recent take out experience was excellent and the food was perfect.
(5)Christie E.
A great place to stop for lunch. The menu has a wide variety of options, but I opted for the pita (with gyro meat) and fries. The pita was delicious. There was a lot of onions and garlic. The fries were crisp and delicious. Our waitress was helpful with ordering and extremely pleasant.
(4)Dominic J.
Nicely located around the corner of first street, next to The Beer Baron. Has outdoor seating. They serve food for Beer Baron patrons as well. I went there for lunch late in the afternoon on a weekend, seated outside and the summer breeze was a bliss. I had Charbroiled Chicken Reganati, I liked it. Service was good and pleasing.

Visiting the area for the day we decided to try this place out (thanks Yelpers!)...walked in on a freakin blazing hot afernoon and the place had AC, very clean and they had cute coloring kits for kids. I got the carb free Gyro plate and it was simple BUT the meat and veggies were on point and delish. The greek yogurt sauce is like crack. I could buy a gallon of it and sit in my car with a spoon gobbling it down. We had a brand new waiter and he was super friendly and down to earth. The entire staff had great customer service skills and very attentive which is hard to find and just makes the entire dining experience that much better. Ill be driving over from Fremont to eat here more often. Great job to the owners, chefs, staff.
(5)Lisa H.
I really appreciate the owner reaching out, and I'm planning on coming back to try a few other things on the menu.
(4)Cristina P.
Ahh this place is soooo good! I had a craving for Greek food and decided it was about time that I checked this bookmark off my list. So glad I did, Demitri's was all I expected and more! The food here was so delicious, my husband and I were talking about how good it was the whole day! Seriously amazing. All of us were very happy with our meals. The service was just as awesome, best service I have had in a while. Our waitress Shannon knew the menu inside and out and confidentially answered all of our questions. She also helped me put a low carb plate together that was so yummy I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. Thank you for exceeding our expectations, Demitri's! We will definitely be back again!
(5)Jaime L.
From the second I walked in I felt welcome here. I was greeted by Lexi who was really sweet and funny. Our server was very attentive and our food was very tasty. This place is also dog friendly which is a huge plus. This place definitely had a lasting impression on me. I will definitely be back ;)
(5)Phil M.
Fun place! All the staff really has a great time AND makes sure you are too! Cocktails and food are good! Great experience. Why wouldn't you go??!
(5)Traci Y.
Love this place! We love their chicken souvlaki! Food and service is great! They provide complimentary grilled bread and garlic spread. Wonderful!
(5)Kim M.
By far the most delicious food and greatest atmosphere of any restaurant in the Bay Area. My favorite.
