Came here for dinner with my hubby and kids sometime in October on a Saturday . The ambience is more like a romantic semi-fancy restaurant. I think? I say, it was not really busy when we got there. However, it got busy around 7ish. So, we got lucky getting there at 6:30pm. 1) I got bistek a lo pobre (NY steak - medium, with white rice, fries, 2 plantains, and 2 overeasy eggs): $16.99. I say, steak is so juicy and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Mouth watering every time I chew on each piece of steak. Of course, I am a big fan of eggs. So I have no complaints. And the plantains are perfectly cooked. Price and quality is way better than the Peruvian restaurants I tried in the Valley. Of course, I will not mention them here. 2) Hubby got a dish with beef stew, beans, rice with red onions. I didn't bother asking what the name was since I got busy with my food. But I got a taste of the beef stew. And goodness, it was tender and tasty. $15.99. 3) My boys shared a meal with NY steak and pasta with basil sauce. Of course, steak is just as juicy. Nice, tender, and very scrumptious! $16.99. We also got the calamari for appetizer, which is not bad at all. Crispy and not rubbery like other calamari. Lol. We shared a flan and a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. It wasn't my idea to have dessert since I was really stuffed, but the flan was good. The chocolate cake is too rich, but I can't really complain since I am a chocolate addict. Finally, I had our friendly server picked my wine since I am not a wine fanatic. She just asked me if I like it sweet or dry, white or red. So I told her I just like it sweet and let her decide for me. I usually go with merlot, but I was not planning on getting a headache that night and especially the next morning. Like I said, not a big wine drinker so I could not tell which is a good wine or not. Settled for Tabernero Borgona (semi-sweet red wine) from Peru. Hmm, I must say, really good, not too heavy, not too sweet, and did NOT even give me a headache at all! *Had to finish my review. Came back here again just this past weekend. Twice already and thinking of coming back again. I don't think I will eat at any Peruvian restaurant in the valley or at least closer to where I live. Just saying. Overall, I love the food & the service. Surely, I will be back.

Had a groupon so I decided to use it on the last day. The service was super slow. I mean come on 2 servers on a Saturday night.. really!! It took us 20 minutes to be seated because of the lack of waiters/hostess. However the waitress was really nice. The food wasnt anything great! Ive had wayyy better peruvian food. But what really turned me off about Lolas was there was a baby roach crawling on the wall while we dined! yummy! Yea! Wont go back here again!

Very good Peruvian food. I would know I grew up on the stuff. I've also been to Peru 12 times so I know good Peruvian cuisine when I taste it. Very authentic food at this restaurant. I've been 3 times so far and I have to say their Seco is the best item. Next time I will try their Ceviche and a different entree. Things I like - Service is excellent - Food is excellent - Beer and wine fairly priced - Good location - Nice decor (compared to other Peruvian restaurants) - Great prices for lunch - Great Music (reminds me of my trips to peru and my childhood) Things that need work - Prices are too high for some dinner entrees - They need more selection Overall I really like this place it's always a treat for dinner and the service people are so nice. I will definitely be back here often.

What a pleasant surprise. Been going to the gym next door for years and never noticed Lola's next door. Not what I expected. Never really had Peruvian food before but I'd say is a cross between Italian and Cuban. I could be totally wrong on the similarities. I ordered the seafood pasta, which was really good. My wife got steak and eggs (not sure what the real name was) which was also really good, and my daughter got chicken, that was just so so. I like the ambience, it's got kinda romantic feel to it. It'll bee a good place for anniversaries or some special occasion. BTW, the rice side dish was exceptionally good.

I got a groupon for this restaurant- what a good choice! Boyfriend and I got: -Appetizer: Causa, a crushed Peruvian yellow potato with avocado, bell pepper mayo, and shrimp. SO YUMMY! The sauce it comes with is friggin DELISH and the entire thing is amazingly good. The shrimp (I'm not sure if it was raw, but yes it was slippery) was amazing and blended really well with the taste of the potato and avocado. -Entree: Lomo Saltado, an Asian-fusion beef with fries and rice dish. The beef was amazingly tender, and the fries it came with were delish! Can't say too much about that other than it was delicious... I'm not a big fan of big chunks of meat but it was still really good. -Drinks: Marakuya, a papaya drink and Chicha Morada, a Peruvian punch-like drink with hints of cinnamon and a few other flavors. LOVED them so much, especially the Chicha Morada. Freaking awesomely yummy. -Dessert: Lucma Ice Cream, a really creamy almost avocado-creamy ice cream. They give you a LOT, like, 3 full scoops of ice cream and whipped cream with a small drizzle of chocolate syrup. Delish~~ The food came out fairly quickly, yay! We were in a rush because were going to be late to a concert if we didn't eat quickly. The atmosphere is fairly romantic - dark and sultry with nice music in the background. I bet it could get pretty loud but there was only a few other people in the restaurant and they were speaking fairly quietly. So yes, it was pretty expensive. It would have been $35+ without the groupon incl. tip and tax, but we got it to about $25 because of the groupon. I paid with cash so I didn't run into the overcharging issue that another reviewer had. I would have minused one star just because they're so expensive, but.... that wouldn't make sense since Yelp is supposed to be for service and food reviews... right? (: Boyfriend definitely wants to come again and again and again... if we didn't live in Norcal. Still, one of the best places we've eaten at so far. (:

I was concerned about the service and the saltiness of the food based on the yelp reviews, but overall we had a great experience. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent. Our waitress and busboy were really attentive and friendly and provided some of the best service we have ever gotten (it was a Wednesday night). We enjoyed the rolls and the dipping sauce they give you as appetizers, good stuff. My fiance got the lomo slatado and it was ok. Not bad, but we had better. I got the ceviche sampler. It came with three different ceviches and the tradicional was bomb, but the other two were a bit salty( i see were the comments are coming from). We went to this place cause we had a groupon. And I think I would buy another one and go again if it came up, but the place is a bit pricey for the quality of food to go without one.

I ate here once. The service was not great but acceptable. The portions were good and the food was fresh. The green sauce: tasty, spicy and has flavor. It's a good spot to hold you over until you can make that trip out to Mario's or up to SF for Inca's.

The food was fine enough, didn't really bring me back to my travels across Peru but I had no problem with it. The staff was delightful, the setting is dark and intimate so quite good if you're going for that. What I didn't appreciate was a short-sighted policy on the part of the owner. I had purchased a Groupon which was to expire on May 2nd. Not having had the opportunity to use it up till then, I decided to go there on that last day. Only to discover that the restaurant is closed on Mondays - no signs on the door, the website is in Spanish, so I didn't know this. Their phone just rang and rang with no message announcing their business hours. Apparently, all restaurants on their street are closed Mondays, and it's supposed to be common knowledge, so they don't post their business hours outside. Pretty shabby treatment of non-locals, I'd say. Anyway, I came back on Tuesday figuring they've got to honor the Groupon since their expiration date was invalid. Wrong! They told me that dozens of people had already called with the same question, and all were told "no". The least they could've done was have Groupon send out an email to all voucher holders informing of the business hours, I've had this type of email from other establishments. Or better yet, extend the deadline by just 1 day to be nice to their prospective patrons and inspire future loyalty. Poor customer relations on their part, great way to alienate potential raving fans!

THE MOST DISGUSTING AND EMBARRASSING PERUVIAN RESTAURANT!! I am Peruvian I brought my two Americas girlfriends for a nice lunch and for them to get to know the amazing Peruvian food. We order their lunch special 14.99 and 12.99 This restaurant advertise appetizer,main course and dessert. Their plates sizes were ridiculous small and the deserts were the most disgusting and embarrassing thing, we order chocolate cake, chocolate chip ice cream, and flan (by the way this is not Peruvian traditional dessert) The waiter-manager, who said was in charge of the restaurant brought us a tiny piece of chocolate cake, and half size of flan!!! Literally from a round cup they cut it in two and give us one half, and put whip cream for us not to notes that they did that. I ask the waiter about this and he said the owner had give this order because it was a lunch special!! So that means they may give us a Left over from some else or if they advertise a banana as a dessert keep in mind they will give you a half of a banana... For a second I though this can not be real not even in a third world country restaurant they will give you left overs. Also we bought a coupon from Yelp $10 for $20 they didn't want to honored because they say was only for dinner and not for lunch or any other offer which never refers on the coupon NOT TO USED ON LUNCH SPECIAL, It doesn't say that on the fine print!! This is a clear example of what you can get when you go to LATINO AMERICA and dine in the wrong place, but the sad news this happen in Glendale, California!!! The food was not even good!! If your under the impresion that this is a Peruvian you are mistaking there is other Peruvians restaurant like " EL ROCOTO en Gardena it worth the drive!!

We dined using one of those Groupon type discounts and that's the great thing about those discount deals, you discover places that you've never heard or seen before and we're so glad we got to experience Lola's. We came for dinner in the evening and were the only patrons so it worked out pretty fine for us in terms of intimacy. The server recommended a ceviche dish for me and while it was good, it wasn't the right meal for me to have at the time because I was freezing cold and the ceviche is served chilled... Brrr!! I had no idea! The boyfriend got an entree with steak, I totally forget what it was called but he said it was very delicious and cooked the way he wanted. We were properly waited on and the rest of the dinner couldn't have gone any better. Thanks Lola's! We'll be back!

The food was yummy, nice ambiance, and great service. My son was acting up in the restaurant and they were so kind to give him a toy to distract him. Lomo Saltado is one of my favorite dishes and they make it um um gooood. Only problem is that the food is over priced.

I just recently moved to Glendale and have been searching for new places to eat. I used to live downtown and when I want some good Peruvian food, I usually go to Marios! But since they're a bit far now, we tried to find something local. Big mistake! We came to yelp, found the link to their site and ordered to go. When we got back home we realized they over charged us, and not only that our Sopa A la Criolla was half full! Whats up with that?! AND the Lomo Saltado was bland. We called them back to let them know they overcharged us and all they could say was "we just changed the menu" she had no sympathy, had nothing to offer us and could care less that we were not charged the prices we saw on their site. This is FALSE ADVERTISING... If we would have know the true prices, we would have ordered differently. I really hate when restaurants don't give a crap about pleasing their customers. If you want real Peruvian food with flavor and good service, then DON'T go here!

Went to Lola's for lunch with a groupon...like so many others. Not a bad place at all, great location, clean, and the staff were all very friendly. We ordered the Pollo Saltado and Shrimp Saltado. All was rather greasy and salty, not horrible, but definitely not great. But seriously, the biggest problem with this place are the prices! Each dish was $16.99, which would be okay if the food was better.

i'll keep this short and sweet. this is cute little date spot and while it's on brand boulevard, it's totally low key and surprisingly cozy. appetizer-scallops on the half shell which wasn't on the menu but was suggested by our waitress entree-boyfriend had the lomo saltado and i had a huge dish of fresh ceviche i'll admit that i don't know anything about peruvian food so it's hard for me to compare or judge, but i do know that i enjoyed everything i tried here and that it was a wonderful little date. :)

I usually go to Choza Mama in Pasadena, which is always great!! But today we decided to try Lola's. Just to make this short and sweet it was decent. It's extremely dark in there, and when the sun came out & was shining in through the front window, the server immediately closed it. Bummer. It took about 15 minutes for our order to be taken (even thought there was only one other table.) The bread they served did not taste fresh, but the sauce was tasty. Our order then took 30 minutes, and they brought my boyfriend out the shrimp arroz chaufa instead of the chicken. He decided to keep it, since he didn't want to wait another 30 minutes. I ordered the arroz con mariscos. Both entrees were decent. Nothing spectacular, and nothing that would make me want to go back into that dark dungeon and wait an eternity for mediocre peruvian food and water refills.

Never noticed this place until a wrong bus route had me standing in front of it. Despite the dark interior and empty tables, my friend and I decided to try something new. The service was friendly enough and the food was tasty. What stood out to me was that it tasted like something you would eat at someone's home. I like simple and clean food which is exactly what I got. I wouldn't recommend going for lunch just because it's so dark in there. The ambiance is better fit for dinner.

I really like this place. Food is really good. I'm no expert on Peruvian food but it seems to have some sort of an Asian influnce in it. Kinda like Jackie Chan meets the Incas! Anyways, we had the Cerviche to start. The all fish option. Really yummy. Then we had the Lomo Saltado (forgive my spelling), which is Beef with french fries with an excellent sauce and some rice on the side, the Chicken Chaufa which is like Chicken Fried Rice and the Tallarin Saltado which reminded of a Chow Mein dish. They do have lots of other Peruvian dishes that I can't remember that I would love to try the next time I come in. We used some sort of a Groupon type certificate and the server never once flinched and gave us great service. Very genuine. You know, how sometimes when you use a coupon or certificate, the server just rolls their eyes and immediately assumes that their tip is now non existent. I understand as some people do not tip on the original amount. BUT, if you provide great or greater service, you will be rewarded. The place is cozy and warm. Great experience overall.

Found Lola's thru Groupon. I tried going on a Monday with a group of friends for dinner. FYI: closed on Mondays. Well c'est la vie. Ended up trying again on a Saturday to get an early dinner with a friend. The place was pretty empty when we got there but definitely filled up by the time we were finished. Now usually, the first time I go to Peruvian restaurants I will go for the lomo saltado to judge the quality of the food, however this time I decided to forgo the lomo and go for the seco. YUMMY!!!! brought back childhood memories of my Peruvian babysitter's house. and bonus: my leftovers were still super tasty the next day!! I was feeling adventurous so I had the maracuya as my drink (instead of my usual Inka Kola) which was also good. lucky for me, my friend ended up getting the lomo saltado and let me try some. tasted great! The seasoning was spot on to the plate my tia (from Peru) made for me in the past! Since we were pretty much the only ones at the restaurant service was good. Like most Peruvian restaurants, the food did take some time to come out (but I didn't really notice as I was catching up with said friend and we were gabbing the whole time!) We both enjoyed the warm bread that was brought out though. Prices are pretty comparable to most Peruvian place... a little on the pricey side.....

My friend.and I went the other night and had the chicha morada, ceviche and lomo saltado as well as the lucuma ice cream (which i was so happy they had since its a little hard to find in LA). Tje ceviche definitely had a lot of ceviche. The portions were pretty big. We forced ourselves to finish our meals since they were so good!. I am peruvian so am a bit picky about my peruvian restaurants. I left w/ a happy full feeling not like some restauramts where you regret eating what u ate bc of greasiness or whatever. But not at Lolas everything tasted great and fresh and healthy. If only they had anticuchos though lol. I like the place, the decorum was nice and our waitress was excellent. I recommend this place for your peruvian experience!

We went here for dinner, and I enjoyed it. I got the seafood pasta, and I thought it was pretty good, but my boyfriend thought it was delicious. He thought his food was pretty good, and I thought it was absolutely delicious. The chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert was pretty good, but too much frosting that we couldn't eat. However, the unique ice cream on the side really saved it.

My hubby and I came across this place on our way to Carousel Restaurant and decided to eat here instead. I've only really have had Peruvian food once before but I found Lola's very delicious and satisfied my craving for something different. I got the Lomo Saltado and it was filling and filed with amazing flavors. My husband chose to be a little more on the safe side and got the Chicken Melanesia with fries and rice and found himself very pleased with the portions and quality of the food! The only disappointing thing is finding out the they had a half off coupon on groupon a day later!

I'm giving them 5 because they have awesome saltados. Such a simple recipe: steamed rice, french fries, sauteed onions and tomato and your choice of meats, I like the steak the best. I love the green suace they have, I think it's called chimichurri sauce. But it's absolutely delicious. The service lacks luster at times but their food is absolutely delicios.

Tried this place for an early dinner and ordered the beef lomo saltado (cooked with fries, tomatoes and onions) and the calamari. I though the beef was cooked good, tender, seasoned right, had a good sauce to it and the fries was cooked perfectly. The calamari was crispy on the outside and tasted fresh in the inside. Overall the food was good and will probably go back again. My only gripe is the prices are a little higher than the regular Peruvian restaurant I go to in Glendale(Mamaita's) and found the service a little slow considering there were very few customers the night we went. I would still recommend this place in spite of that.

The hubby and I tried this place for dinner on Sunday night with a Groupon. We ordered 2 dishes to share: 1.Salmon A La Parrilla Con Tallarin Verde (Grilled Salmon with rigatoni pasta) 2.Pollo Al Vino (Chicken with rice and wine sauce) We loved both dishes. The Salmon had a nicely grilled crust and the pasta was bursting with flavor. The Chicken was tender and the rice was well cooked and the sauce was delicious. The only blemish was that the potatoes in the chicken dish while flavorful were dry on the inside. The service was very nice as well. We are definitely going to come back to this place.

i tried the lomo saltado as they recommended their signature dish. it was huge, but mostly were the fries and onions.......also the steak wasnt tender at all......this is kind of disappointed. taste was just ok. price is way too expensive cos its 16.99. i think the inka places are definitely better than here, both taste and price.

Defiantly Not going back. The food was soo tasteless. The onions in my Lomo Saltado were raw and the beef had that weird taste. I give 2 stars for having super nice Staff, clean eating area and Fast Service otherwise it would of been 1 Star.

I know the place is not that old and doesn't have many customers yet but that should be a good reason for them to provide the best of service and food. I went there a week ago with my family and got their breaded chicken. Well luckily the knife was metal otherwise it would've brock into two pieces. The chicken was old tasted like rubber and the dish itself had no sauce or dressing. We asked the waiter a question about one of their dressings and he had no idea what it was. Will never go back there or recommend anyone.

Expect servers to just look down and ignore you when you are trying to get their attention. There was a line out the door when we went and none of the servers would come address any of us waiting. It seemed a bit awkward for those sitting near the door to have people standing over them, so after a while the BF and I went to the bar to sit and wait... something I think the wait staff should have offered (or take down names and numbers). We finally got seated (it wasn't offered, it opened up and we took it once the people in front of us were seated). The female server was definitely the one who had the "ostrich" complex of if I don't look at them they can't see me. At one point I made a comment about this to the BF just as she came by and ran away; I laughed & made a comment like "there she goes again" which I think she overheard. The bartender was a doll, though. He was busy also but at least would address us. Anyway, come the food and it was delicious. The bread basket was adorable and tasty. We both got the lomo saltado and it was different than what I'm used to, but in a good way, in my opinion. It wasn't as greasy, tasted lighter, but still a ton of flavor. They swapped french fries for mixed veggies for me, which I appreciated also. I'd love to give Lola's a higher rating because the food was great, but the service left us quite frustrated and dampened our dinner date. At the end of the night the girl came by and apologized to us and explained that it was very busy due to a show in the theater nearby. That she was sorry she "couldn't" be more attentive. I appreciated the apology but the BF wasn't amused. Before we left she gave us a complimentary alfajor which was also delicious! I would go again in hopes for better service to bump the star up again. I do agree that for Peruvian places it is a bit expensive. I think they may adjust the price so they can take the online coupons they have without taking too much of a loss.

I love this spot. I went here with my mom and two sisters one night. It was very beautiful inside and dim. It was a good vibe in there. The waitress was very informative and sweet. I got the camarones saltado with a beer and it was delicious! I will definitely be returning! Thank you.

(Dined 7/19/12 TH @ 7pm): As The Kinks sang, "L...O...L...A...Lola." As I continued to explore my way through the landscape of places to quench a thirst and fill my belly, Groupon ($20 worth of food for $10) was once again the culprit in my quest to say. "Yes, I've tried that!", and this particular evening's journey took me and a friend to Lola's Peruvian Restaurant. It was an unbearably muggy day, yet we decided to eat on the outside front patio (fresh air and all). We momentarily stepped inside to notify a hostess, in which she kindly greeted us and sat us down. There was only one young couple inside, and as I looked at their food, I felt good about our decision as this was both our first time to eat here. Because we both looked forward to tonight's meal, we had already chosen what we wanted to eat beforehand: Peruvian beer - Cristal (2) and Cusquena ($5.00 ea.), Bisteck con Tallarin Verde (steak and pasta: $18.99) for her, Pollo Saltado (chopped chicken with rice, yuca frita, onions, peppers: $16.99) for me, Alfajores (a warm sandwich-like cookie with what appeared to be a Nutella-like spread: $3.99) for dessert, and although we wanted the Conchas a la Parmesana (baked scallops with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) they were out, so we went with the Choros a la Chalaca (boiled mussels topped with chopped onion, cilantro, lime juice, corn, and rocoto chili pepper: $8.99). We also received complimentary buttered breadsticks with an assortment of sauces and spread. We settled into our iron-rod chairs, noshed on breadsticks, and savored our ice cold beer served in a frosty cold mug. Heck, I wanted to smother my mug all over my body just to stay cool! Although the beer tasted good (especially on this hot day), there was nothing distinctive about it. The breadsticks were freshly baked with a light buttering on the outside, and the three sauces/spreads accompanied them well. I wasn't a fan of the spicy mustard one, but I really enjoyed the garlicky spread and spicy guacamole-like dip. Next up were the mussels which looked very lavish, but I'm always leery when there is too much toppings because it's like they're trying to hide the actual food item. This was a first-time experience eating mussels for my friend, and needless to say, she wasn't too impressed, as she stated, "it's too rubbery and fishy". Yes, I agreed, but my family ate clams, mussels, etc., so I was used to it and enjoyed eating her portion! The size of the mussel was good, too. Now, the main course. I was thoroughly impressed with the portion sizes as it could have fed two people with room to spare, or in my case, fill up one person! I sampled my friend's meal and the steak was lightly seasoned and nicely cooked to a medium. It was juicy and flavorful. The pasta was huge tubular pieces covered in a verde sauce. Definitely a heavy meal to be eating in 80+ degree weather, but all was good. My chicken reminded me more of an Asian dish the way it was prepared. I actually throw stuff together like this when I cook on the wok. It was soft and filled with all the flavors it was cooked with. The oddity of the dish were the yuca frita buried and mixed in with everything else. Don't get me wrong, I like it all (I ate the whole thing; factor in the heaping scoop of rice, this was a carbo load!), but I simply didn't get it. The dessert was divine with its soft crunchiness and dusting of cinnamon. An iced coffee or mocha may have complimented this well. The service was very good (Sandra was our waitress), but I would imagine due to the lack of customers. We were instantly greeted, seated, order taken, table setting ready, and she checked on us from time-to-time. We didn't have any water, so I can say how diligent she would be about filling the glasses. Overall, she was a pleasure. Parking is ample, whether along Brand Blvd. with meters, nearby side streets, or surrounding parking structures and lots which offer the first 90-minutes free (small nominal fees after that). I tried to find free non-business street parking but those were taken so I parked in the Maryland parking structure. Overall, Lola's Peruvian Restaurant was a fine treat and I was happy for this Groupon offer to give me the perfect opportunity to try this place in my hometown. I found good value as you can't knock the portion size, but I feel the prices could come down a bit based on the prices I quoted above (total bill was around $70.00 before Groupon and tip). Mamita is another local Peruvian restaurant which offered comparable food for less money. The atmosphere inside was dark with brick walls and several tables which allowed for a more romantic intimate setting, but the outside patio was just that with only a couple tables. Generally, I felt the attire was casual (especially outside), so expect me to be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops...unless I planned for a more romantic evening out. And they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! (actual rating: 3.5 stars)

HEAD UP lunch menu served everyday from monday trough friday till 330pm starting from $6.99 (1/4 rotisserie chicken with side of rice and fries) to $8.99 (shrimp or beef chicken) we were a little late on lunch on our way back from LOS ANGELES ZOO it was 4pm almost but the server and the all stuff still accomodating us with the special menu,hands down is a pretty good touch to this experience... we all know about picky l.a. spots!!! By the way we showed up with 2 very demanding kids and our waiters was wonderful!

This place has some really delicious Peruvian food. I tried the cerviche sampler which was very different and full of flavor. I tried the pollo saltado - it was just the way I like it, spicy. I also tried a Peruvian ice cream which tasted more like butter scotch ice cream :) The service was incredible. My server was really on top of things. She made sure I had everything I needed .Parking is on the street. I will be definitely going back.

Having never tried Peruvian food before in my life I decided to be adventurous and stop in one Saturday night with the family. Boy are we glad we went out to eat! Let me just preface this by saying that their food was to die for. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the music. We started off with bread and sauce. They serve two, green and yellow. The green one was my favorite. I decided to order the lomo saltado. Very tasty! The waiters were very friendly, another plus! I have tried other peruvian places around the valley but this one is top contender. Whenever I'm craving some deliciousness I head on over to Lola's :)

My favorite peruvian place in town. Meat entrées are made to perfection. My favorite two plates are Lomo Saltado and Secco. Meat is very juicy and tender with the right amount of spices and herbs. Weather you're going for lunch or dinner, this is a great find in glendale. Delicious and authentic food.

Cute little place with a dark and quiet atmosphere which is perfect for a date. I had the Lomo Saltado - it was tasty, the meat a little chewy and it came with mash potatoes and rice. I enjoyed drenching the rice in the braised sauce from the meat. Nice tasty bread sticks with dipping sauces. It's pricey, you will be spending around $15-$20 on a plate on the weekends in here but from what I hear they have great prices during the week for lunch so that might be the best time to check it out. Service was a little slow. Big menu with lots of choices. So I may be back to check out other items.

I have been there a few times and tried different dishes and love them all. My friend ordered the salmon salad and said it was the best she ever had. I had the chicken stew in wine sauce, it is not a spicy dish but when I mentioned I liked spicy food, they made it a spicy dish for me. The seafood fried rice and steamed fish that I had before were very flavorful too. The best of all was the warm freshly baked bread with dipping sauce that they served while waiting for our orders.

Came here last night with a groupon. It was about 6:00 on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty busy. The ambiance was nice and had a beautiful, traditional, cozy feel. The lights were very low and the restaurant was a little too dark. The food was delicious. The ceviche tasting appetizer was so fresh and flavorful and I had no idea that there were different ways to make ceviche. The pulled chicken that I ordered was really good, and so was the beef stew that my boyfriend got. The bread in the beginning came with 2 dipping sauces too. The food is kind of pricey but very delicious. Minus a star for the service. We sat for a while without anyone acknowledging our table. I saw a few other tables around us experiencing the same problem. When someone did come, she brought the dipping sauces for the bread without the bread and it was awhile before we got the bread. Then we got our appetizers, but after a few minutes she brought out the dinner too. She asked if we were ready for dinner, and we were going to say not yet, but realized she was holding the dinner plates as she was asking us. Besides the service and prices, the taste of the food is why I gave this place 4 stars.

This place was very smart to put themselves on the map with Living Social/Groupon deals--like so many other businesses these days. For the deal, I thought this place rocked. Nice atmosphere, no frills for a Friday night in fact. It's a small establishment (especially for the constantly expanding Glendale) and the staff was really nice. My friend got Lomo Saltado, which she liked. I got something similar but with shrimp instead. I asked for a substitution on the fries (which I know is essential to this dish but I didn't want them) and they did so without fuss. Can't say my food was phenomenal, though I tried my friend's and wished I had gotten hers! Kinda wish I tried the paella! Maybe next time. I can see why many people find this place overpriced, but I think you could easily drop the same amount of money, if not more, on some chain establishment in the area. Not knocking chains, just saying it's worth exploring. Especially if you find a deal. I'll be back soon, I also heard they have good lunch deals so will update my review then!

The food was ok here. There were some hit and misses in taste but the service was first class. The waitress was very nice and attentive to our table. Fried yucca- not as fried as it should have been, the yellow sauce lacked flavor. Their house yellow sauce was very delicious however. Tallarin verde- Very tasty. Came with some fried potatoes which were also delicious. Alfajores- Buttery cookie, can't go wrong Lucuma ice cream- Ice cream, can't go wrong. At night, this place is super dark. I like seeing the food that I eat sometimes, you know?

Poor service, had to wait even with empty tables, they refused to sit a party of 4 on a 6 party table, we even asked to be sit on a 2 party table, just add 2 more chairs, but they refused. What kind of Peruvian restaurant would run out of bread....unacceptable!!! Fried yucca= wow soo crispy & delicious yumm! Comes with a ranch style sauce Chicha Morada- this is a purple sweet corn drink trust me its amazingggggg tryyy ittttt you wont be sorry! $2.95 Mini Causa - Crushed Peruvian potato filled with the layer of topped mayonnaise sauce, with shrimp= yumm & filling too! $15.95 Calamari- very crispy & delicious as well the tartar sauce with it is soo good! Pretty expensive for what it is. I don't remember paying $15 for chicken and rice at any restaurant before but I guess with all the groupons and restaurant.com gift certificates they have going on they probably felt compelled to bump up the price. Anyways, onto the food. Traditional ceviche - This was probably the best dish. (Best dish from this restaurant, but I would have to say that's really not saying much) I really liked the two types of corn they had, which was probably the only thing Peruvian about it. Lomo saltado - Was okay. Nothing special. Fries were soggy. I got a piece that wasn't drenched in sauce. Pollo Vino - Again nothing special. Taste was slightly better than lomo saltado but I can't get over how they can charge $15 for just rice and a small portion of chicken. Parinhuela soup - Lots of seafood but soup was just okay. Prawn was just for show because it tasted like mush.

Went here for dinner with a groupon deal, little did I know, I was about the eat the most expensive mediocre meal of my life. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and the tallarin de pollo for here and an order of Pollo Saltado to go, since I had to in order to complete the groupon. The Lomo was ok, just ok, definitely not worth the $16.99 I paid for. The tallarin had too much onions and very little chicken. Servers took forever to refill out drinks, even though it was 2 other tables they were waiting on. There is a reason this place was empty, now I know!! When I got home I checked the bag, since it had so much leakage, of course it did, because instead of the Pollo Saltado, they gave me Tallarin de pollo ! First and last time!!!! I will continue to go to Mamitas peruvian, better food, better service, good prices.

We came here for lunch. The food was not bad, the service, on the other hand, was pretty bad. Our waitress had major attitude from the second we walked in. I ordered mariscos off the lunch specials and specifically requested no red onions. The food arrived and my plate had red onions. When I informed our waitress that I requested no onions and it still had them, she made no apologies and said ok, She will ask for a new plate to be cooked. I came with 4 co-workers and everyone already started eating, while I had to wait. Then 3-5 minutes later she arrives with the new plate. Well I was suspicious that it was so quick. When I started eating I found pieces of onion in there. I didn't say anything and just ended up taking the pieces out myself. So for a quick lunch, the food was ok but just because of the service, I won't come back.

They give you long rolls, and the rolls really warm and tasty; crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside. Total bonus. For an appetizer, we shared the Choros a la Chalaca (Muscles), there were four, and they were awesome. Just the right amount of lime to spicy ratio. I had the Seco (stewed beef) for dinner, but shared with the table. HUGE portion, the meat was SO tender, and covered in a delicious sauce - but not too much sauce, the perfect amount for me. It came with really light tasty beans and fluffy life. My other friends ordered different types of Ceviche, which we all shared. Our favorite type was the traditional, but we enjoyed experiencing the other types. Again, very generous portions, enough to share and have left over food on the table. Another review mentioned super salty food. In my opinion, nothing was salty, or oily for that matter, and I'm really picky about that kind of thing. I ended up really liking everything we ate. The waitstaff was kind and attentive, but not over attentive. The busser was on it, and cleared plates as we needed them cleared, and regularly refilled our beverages. Also, we didn't have to wait forever for the check; you know how that can be. One other thing unrelated to the food: it's dark in the restaurant. If I had brought my parents, they would've complained about that. However, it was pretty quiet, even with a lot of patrons.

I didnt like the restaurant. But for this review I will be honest that's why I put 4 stars instead of 1. Service was good: the girl (our waitress) was very nice and helpful. she explained us all the issues with Peruvian food. They bough us complimentary fresh backed bread with yummy Peruvian souses (similar to indian), but instead of red sparkling wine which I ordered she brought me some white wine. Food is good if you dont care about Health and carbs my BF was really happy about huge amount of potatoes, fried eggs and meat. But I didnt like it: need some fresh veggies!! Upon entering Lola's I was warmly greeted and the restaurant has nice decor for a small place. Everything was looking good and on the up. I ordered a cold beer and looked over the menu. The service after being seated was very slow even though it was not terribly busy. I had to walk to the bar to order my second beer(bad). The food was not to good, pasta was rubbery and the meat was chewy. I can't make a recommendation based on slow service and mediocre food.

Company decided to buy us lunch from Lolas today. I tried the Lomo Saltado (of course) off the lunch menu. This review is based off the taste of the food alone since this was a to-go order. Anyways, the food was actually pretty dang good. The meat was juicy and tender, fries were quite large and kind of soggy, but that's ok for this dish, and the green sauce was pretty tasty. I like for the "aji" sauce to be spicier but it was tasty. Anyways, I'm full, and happy so 4 stars! :)

I really hate to leave such a bad review, but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. I have to say I was anticipating trying this place. I had called a few days before and made a reservation to take one of my friends out to dinner for her birthday. I had told them that I had a party of three and that I had purchased the Groupon deal (I wasn't sure if there was a set menu for it, which is why I mentioned it) and they said we would be able to order whatever we wanted and we shouldn't have any problems. When we first entered the restaurant we didn't know if there was a hostess station and there was no one there or at the bar to seat us so we were standing around for a couple of minutes until finally someone noticed us. Our waitress was probably new, so I don't blame her entirely, but she seemed like she didn't know anything about the menu or the wine list. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with shrimp and a Chicha Morada. Not only did they never did bring my Chicha Morada but my Lomo Saltada came to my table shrimp-less. I'm pretty sure this is because the waitress was not writing anything down all night. If you can't memorize an order, I rather you take more time to write it down then get it wrong. We constantly had to ask for our waters to be refilled which seemed odd since it is a very small store front and there were plenty of people working; maybe only two other parties were eating at the same time as we were. I reminded the waitress about my shrimp as soon as she put the Lomo in front of me, she was very polite, apologized and had them make it separately. I have to say I enjoyed my Lomo. I had finished half of it when my shrimp finally came to my table. The waitress assured me that it was cooked in the same style as the Lomo. I regretfully dumped the small bowl of shrimp into the rest of my food and it ruined it entirely! It was so over salted and just bad that I couldn't even finish it. I thought it'd be very rude to complain since I had already eaten a little over a half of it, so again I bit my tongue. Finally the check came and when I showed them my Groupon deal (20 dollars for 40 dollars worth of food and drink) they did not want to take it because there were only three of us and the coupon said "for four or more." On the Groupon message board for this deal, two different people had said that the coupon was used for less than four people and it hadn't even phased me since when I spoke to the waitress on the phone for the reservation she never brought it up that this would be a problem. Our waitress just kept interrupting me and saying "Just ask for your money back. It's okay. Groupon was gladly give you your money back." Frustrated and quite frankly a little embarrassed I just paid for the whole thing and wanted to get out of there. I will not be returning and quite frankly I will probably recommend people to skip over this place for there are many better Peruvian places such as Mo-Chica and Mario's who have much bigger, tastier portions and better service for less money.

A groupon deal lured me to this restaurant, the food was very good but pricey. I like the interior of the restaurant which is nice and dark. The negatives were the lack of service, the waiter never came back to ask if we wanted anything else. No water offered, no offer to get another beer, and I had to ask for the famous aji verde chili sauce. At all the other peruvian restaurants I have been to the first thing they bring you is the aji verde sauce. Also, they only gave us to small finger size pieces of bread, and never asked if we wanted more. Four stars for the food and 3 stars for the service.

Peruvian cuisine is added in my favorite list! I'm quite displeased that the average rating of this place is 3 stars, because the two times I've been here, I went with great impressions from the food experience. The place is remodeled from what I remember, because the first time I came here, it was more casual, but now has a nice casual-chic vibe. Earth tone coloring, dark lighting, decent wine list, welcoming staff and good food; very good for the price, as a matter of fact. You have to order for appetizers: the Mixed Ceviche and another mixed fishy dish with spicy, limey dips, giant corns, thick cut fries, yummm.... The entrees I can recommend are Jalea de Mariscos, The peruvian spicy paella with mixed seafood, the spicy shrimp dish, and another mixed seafood dish with vegetables. (Sorry I forgot the names). I really love the seasoning in all the dishes, it has lots of lime with perfect hint of spiciness within all the dishes, and it fits perfectly with the seafood and the fish. The fish, was halibut, uncooked (obviously) in ceviche and the other appetizer combo was so good, I couldn't believe that it was raw and tasted very fresh. I have put the yummy photos of our delicious dinner experience. You can enjoy the dinner with an Argentinian white wine, La Linda (torontes) UFC and compliments are welcome :) Enjoy!

Came here for the first time with the family based on a recommendation from a friend of my mother. My mother grew up in Peru so we thoroughly enjoy Peruvian food and trying new restaurants. We previously have been going to Choza Mama in Pasadena but their food and service has declined during the past year, leaving us to seek out a new favorite restaurant. I always order Lomo Saltado at Peruvian restaurants so this time was no exception. It was OKAY but not great. The food was very strongly flavored and a bit on the salty side. My dad loved it because he adores food with strong flavor but my mom and I weren't overly impressed. The ambience and decor was delightful though. It's not a huge restaurant and with a location across the street from Americana and CPK and the like, it's nice there's a privately owned restaurant in an area quickly filling up with chains. Our waitress was very nice and other than the strong flavors, I enjoyed my eating experience here. I'll probably try Lola's at least one more time before I sign off on it completely. Maybe I'll just need to try a different dish. Btw, there's parking structures around the corner from the restaurant. I think we paid about $5. One could probably park across the street at Americana or at the Galleria but the evening we went, there was some type of street festival so parking was limited.

This is usually one of my favorite places to eat. I've been here many times and I loved the food. However, I was here last week and the food was just okay... not sure if they have a new chef but I ordered the papa a la huancaina and it didn't have the hard boiled egg it usually has and the ceviche was blah I also ordered the chupe the camarones which usually has a big shrimp and it was MIA. This place was great! Great atmosphere, friendly & attentive staff, delicious and warm free bread, and absolutely amaaaaazing food! We got: 1) choros a la chalaca 2) arroz con mariscos 3) chupe de camarones Firstly, can I just say... peruvian corn is MASSIVE! I had no clue. It's so yummy too! My favorite dish was definitely the chupe de camarones. It was a delicious shrimp chowder. The arroz con mariscos is like paella. And the coros a la chalaca is mussels with tomato, onion, peruvian sweet corn, and lemon juice. All three were flavorful but not overwhelming (though I could've done with less lemon juice with the mussels), I can't wait to go back to try more! It was so close to perfection!

The ceviche (the sampler of 3 different kinds) was super sour and incredibly strong. It came out beautifully and started out tasting really good and fresh, but the sourness of all three was overwhelming and the acidity started hurting my teeth. Between the two us, we couldn't finish the dish and just ended up loading up on the complimentary bread until the main entrees came out. (Maybe it was an off night for the ceviche, bc others on this site rave about it so much!) My bf got one of the saltado dishes which was great. Highly recommend. I got the chicken salad. (I know, I'm the idiot that ordered the salad at a Peruvian restaurant. But I was in the mood for a salad!!!) The salad was inedible. It didn't come out with the ingredients as listed in the menu bc they ran out of TWO of the ingredients. The two main ingredients that made me order the salad in the first place - I think it was pecans and dried cranberries (Shouldn't they tell you this in advance?) And the lettuce was yellow. It was seriously inedible. I played with it and ate about three bites of the green parts that I could find, and just went back to the bread and took another stab at the ceviche. I just ended up loading up on the bread. I personally did not enjoy my food, but my bf said the saltado made up for the ceviche. (And the bread was good!) The staff was nice and friendly, the atmosphere was intimate and cozy, and the red house wine was great. It's a nice "date" place if you order the right stuff. I probably won't go back, but wouldn't necessarily discourage others from going. Just don't order the salad.

This place seems new to that brand blvd, strip. I have not seen it before or I totally missed it walking by, granted I haven't been around for a few months. I must have missed the lunch buffet because it did not seem available. I saw a setup that would have looked like a buffet. Then again, usually buffet means a sacrifice on quality. Not sure what the dinner menu looks like, but the lunch menu was available. Fairy small which I thought would be a positive because that would mean specialties. Nope. I ordered the Chicha Mirada, which from the description sounded like it would be really good. Turned out to be a very syrup'ee drink that was very sweet. The bread didn't taste fresh and the cucumber sauce didn't have much of a kick. For the meal I ordered the stir fried linguini noodles with some beef, onions and peppers. Did not taste very peruvian at all. It lacks the spices and taste. Nothing to rave about.

Took my family here on a Groupon to try some new cuisine. We tried a bit of everything..Beef, Chicken, Seafood, Corn appetizer. Native Peruvian fruit type drinks were delicious and the service was good...but the FOOD..I would have to say just average...all the meat dishes were a bit salty..the potatoes seem a big soggy...just not impressed for the prices they charge. It satisfied the urge to try something different, but it will be a long while if ever i go back. Some people say maybe it was an off day, but you know for a restaurant there should be no such thing. Just not in the business plan. I am rating 3 stars to imply average.

I visited this restaurant for early dinner and the first tip should have been that we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was overprices for what you received. However that is not my biggest complaint. The food was just ok...really just ok. No great flavors and I happen to think that is a shame. One of my favorite foods is Peruvian and this restaurant has the potential to do so much better. I remember that I visited the place about 5 years ago and it was so-so then and has not improved. Perhaps the good folks in Glendale think this is acceptable I disagree. I would have given the place one star but the server was a nice young lady who was pleasant enough (very slow on the check-out though) I have given this restaurant two tries over the past five years... I will not visit again....

Been here several times. The food is always great, my favorite dish (not on menu anymore) is Tallarin Saltado Con Carne. The green sauce and bread while waiting for food is awesome. Theres also this sweet red Peruvian wine thats one of the best dessert wines I've ever had (I forget the name). The atmosphere inside the restaurant is otherworldly..definitely doesn't feel like I'm on Brand Blvd. The only bad thing about this place is the lack of servers when it gets packed for dinner but the quality of food is worth the wait.

I had a great time at this cute little restaurant. Had a restaurant.com coupon, so I came for dinner with my best friend ready to indulge in a full course meal. The free table bread was so cute! little baguettes warm and served with aji sauce. Ordered yuccas with huancaina sauce-- the yucas were underfried, and white looking, while the huancaina sauce was very bland. Painfully bland. I resorted to asking for more of their delicious aji amarillo sauce and ate my yucas with that instead. When I got my main course-- pollo a la parrila with fries, I was very disappointed by the taste. The chicken tasted sweet, while I was looking forward to a savory and grilled flavor. Fries were excellent, smothered in some more of that aji sauce. mmm. Had lucuma ice cream and an alfajor. Dessert was delicious. I would give this place one more try, but at the second fail, i'm out! I give this place a reluctant peruvian seal of approval.

Yesterday, I arrived at the restaurant soaked in sweat, covered in bike grease, and scorched in the sun from bike riding from Santa Clarita. The servers immediately resuscitated me with a refreshing cup of lime ice water. The chill passion fruit juice they brought right after was like the nectar of the gods after my blood sugar had bottomed. They nicely let me use their outlet to charge my phone, which was my life string to get back home. The foods were awesome even when I had no immediate appetite from the exhausting workout. I loved their buttery bread that was served with some kind of wasabi butter and sweet hollandaise? Don't know what they are but I ate them all. Lomo Saltado was a lot of food. Sweet and juicy red onions and tender pieces of meats..mm...the flavorful meat and veggie juice to mix with fluffy rice...I ended up scraping the bottom of the dish, which wouldn't be possible for most women. It was my first meal of the day at 4 o'clock and I was hungry after exercise. Although I must have looked dingy, I was treated very nicely and the kind male server kept me company with pleasant talking about his favorite corn drink and my bike ride. I used my Groupon but the service was still superb. I was replenished with so much energy and still felt full when I got home at night. Would definitely go back and try the corn drink he was talking about and other foods on the menu.

I became a fan of Peruvian food after finally trying it at a farmer's market. I was excited to try it at Lola's. I ordered the pollo saltado and it was pretty good, although I still think the stand at the farmer's market was better. In terms of decor, I think the place can stand some sprucing up. It reminded me of a cave when I went in. The further you went in, the darker it got. If it weren't for my friend taking me there, I probably wouldn't have ventured in if my only gauge was looking through the window. If I were the manager of the place, I'd also re-arrange the seating so that they place the few patrons they have by the window. That way, it looks more welcome and might possibly bring in more patrons--just a thought.

The food here is very tasty. We have tried a number of items and like the Saltado dishes the most. The lighting is dim in the evenings when we have gone there, which makes the atmosphere seem more intimate, even though there is a table just a few feet away. They have a decent variety of wines to choose from and the prices aren't bad at all. The service is a little lacking when they are really busy, but you can see them running around everywhere, so it isn't as if they are just ignoring you. They bring bread and a delicious sauce to dip it in (along with butter, but we usually just ignore that and go for the sauce). The menu has a bunch of options and has nice pictures to go along with them, which was really helpful to us. All in all our experiences have been pretty great here. We will continue to go here.

I gotta say this is a place that knows how to do Peruvian Food right! Being Peruvian myself, the bar has been set high for every "authentic" restaurant of this type. First off the location is quaint yet chic with its Peruvian artifact decor and dim lighting. I also think its clever that they have and Ipad you can take to your table to see the menu items on there. The lunch special is what I usually go for since the dinner definitely looks a little pricey but I think their lunch special includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert for a mere 14- 18 dollars depending on your choice of combination. Compared to other decent Peruvian restaurants that's cheap.The bread and green chili sauce spread they bring out is always fresh and the perfect starter to what ever you order. My favorite items are the choros a la criolla and the lomo or camaron saltado which is a flavorful steak fajita style creation (lomo) or shrimp (camaron) paired with potato and a side of season white rice. The marinate is juicy and delicious. Finished off with a couple scoops of Helado de Lucuma (lucuma ice cream) and you've had yourself an amazing Peruvian 3 course meal. A must go to if your in the glendale area or just finished some shopping at the Americana :))

I found this place through Groupon. I paid $10 for a $20 voucher. The food was pretty good, but it was fairly expensive. We had the lomo saltado, shrimp soup, and the salmon with pesto pasta. I like to research restaurants before eating and I was a little upset that their website had a menu that was out of date (the prices were $5-6 more expensive than the menu on their website). So I have been wanting to try this place for a while. IT was closed down for some time and recently re-opened. I have always loved Peruvian food so I figured you couldnt go wrong. The first thing I noticed in the restaurant was the chalkboard of the specials and not a single one of them was in english so you really couldnt figure out what the hell was on the board unless you had a spanish speaker with you. The waitress wasn't much help and didnt even mention the specials. I got the mixed seafood mix thing (cant remember the name) and it comes with a cup of rice. The seafood was cooked pretty well but the sauce was just too salty. The green sauce they have that accompanies the bred is a little more waterly they I would like and not nearly as spicy as I would prefer. I would recommend people going to Mario's Peruvian over this spot...its ok at best, but I have definitely had much better. I probably wouldnt go again.

So, my gf and I had Lola's for the third and last time a couple days ago for dinner. The only reason I went here was because I had a gift certificate for this restaurant. I usually get the lomo saltado when I eat Peruvian food, but had already tried it here and it's just mediocre, so we decided to try something new. I had the chicken milanesa and my gf had the pescado al ajo con camarones. My milanesa was extremely oily and the shrimp and fish was overly salted. We had also ordered the causa de camarones, which was pretty good. Actually, the bread and dipping sauces was pretty good as well. Though it did take about 15 minutes just to get the bread and an hour to get our food. Anyhow, even though I live about 5 minutes from Lola's, I wouldn't go back. I would rather drive 15 minuted to Mario's Peruvian in Hollywood. The food is way better, less expensive and comes out quick even on a busy day. I would also recommend Don Felix on Virgil or Choza Mama in Pasadena.

the order. seafood spicy tomato soup tallarin saltado chicken with mint curry and peruvian spices this venue on brand in glendale has a great ambience and offers a fine dining-like experience i don't typically associate with peruvian cuisine. the seafood spicy tomato soup i started with had robust tomato flavors with a good amount of spice. the presentation was nice. the seafood wasn't amazingly fresh but satisfactory. though the calamari wasn't good. the giant prawn was a nice touch of decor for the dish. (3.5) the tallarin saltado, which is a linguini pasta dish with saltado chicken, was just averagely good. i felt the chicken was undermarinated and the pasta soaked up all the flavors that should have also been on the chicken. maybe it's because the chicken was lightly pan fried and the flavor was all crisped. if the pasta dish came without the chicken, the dish would have shined more, as all the flavor was in the pasta anyway. a bit on the oily side, but this dish is generally oily from my experiences. (3) the chicken with mint curry sauce had no trace of curry seasoning and the chicken had a mushy texture similar to fish. the dark meat pieces of chicken weren't all that great tasting in the bland sauce it came in. the rice, however, had a nice texture and great subtle broth and garlic flavors. (2) overall, not bad. just nothing memorable.

I love this place. My fiance and I found this place by accident and have gone back a few times. The food is really good and the owner of the restaurant is awesome. He came by and we had a long talk about traveling, wine and food. He poured us several glasses of complimentary wines to taste. I would recommend the lomo saltado and any of their other stir-fry dishes. The only let down of this place is that their food is a little too salty.

I read an article in the LA times last week about the best rotisserie chicken in the area and found that this place was close by. Went there on a Sunday and was ready to order our food to find out that they don't serve the chicken on Sunday and Monday??? I really wanted to like this place, especially since it's close enough to Pasadena that it could have been my go-to Peruvian joint. Unfortunately, it just fell short in a few ways. First, the good: the decor and ambiance are wonderful. I love the photographs and Peruvian artwork. The chicha morada is the best I've had anywhere. The seco, which my dinner companion ordered, was really tasty. The service is sweet and good-humored. They validate parking for the structure located on Orange. Now, the bad: the service is slow. Nice only goes so far when I'm hungry. The calamari was alarmingly greasy, as was the pollo milanesa - a poor choice of entree on my part. (Though if it's something you enjoy, they give you enough to feed three people.) The bread that came with the chimichurri sauce was dusty dry. This isn't a complaint, but the chimichurri sauce itself was spicy as a mofo, causing even my hot sauce-loving friend to down a glass of water immediately after tasting it. If you like spicy, you'll enjoy it. I thought it was good, but the creamy texture and appearance were different from what I've had at other places. I'd come back for the seco or to try the pollo ala brasa if I was in the neighborhood, but this place isn't anywhere near as good as my beloved Natalie's.

We had dinner here on a weeknight. It can be summed up in three ideas. 1. Service: Great! It's what saved them from a 2 star review. They must have really stepped it up since the other Yelpers ate there. I drank a lot of water, and my glass was filled at least 4 times within a minute of being empty or almost empty. We had an early dinner, so at first we were the only ones there, but service continued to be great even after 3-4 more tables were filled. 2. Food: Hit or miss. The pollo del vino was good. The seco (beef) was way too salty. It wasn't quite as bad when you mixed it with the onions that tasted pickled because it cut the salty taste, but they really could have laid off the salt more. 3. Price: A little expensive for dinner (i.e., about $15-20 per dish plus tax and tip). I had a $20 Groupon that I paid $10 for, so it was fine. With the Groupon, the meal (2 dishes plus Groupon) cost about $30 plus tip. The lunch special prices on the menu looked more reasonable. They were about $9 or $10 per dish.

I don't know what the negative reviews on Yelp are talking about. The Lunch Menu is terrific My favorites are the Basil Spinach $8 ( a safe 1st choice if you are not familiar with the food) and the Shrimp Stir Fry $9 is really good. It's a lot of food for under $10. The bread is hot, fresh. The service is wonderful. I've been to Peru, this is a great reminder of the cuisine. My new favorite. Love the decor. Ok the music could be better.

This is my first time to this restaurant. The decor was great and looked like a really expensive restaurant. However the menu prices are reasonable. I had the rice with seafood. It was good, not a whole lot of seafood in it but pretty to look at and decent. I would recommend the seafood rice at El Recoto in Cerritos for a better arroz con mariscos. The service was decent and I had no complaints. Didn't wow me but a nice place for Peruvian food. Always love the green sauce that goes with the bread at Peruvian places!

We (family of four) ate at Lola's on the evening of April 10 after my wife bought a $20 off deal on Groupon. This restaurant was a huge disappointment for a number of reasons. The first thing I noticed was the odor of cleaning fluid when we came in. Plus, the men's bathroom smelled just plain bad. Next, the service was incredibly slow. There was a "help wanted" sign in the window and boy did they need it. One waitress served the entire restaurant. No one took our drink order or even brought water when we were seated. It took almost ten minutes to get a glass of water. Next, we sat at a fourtop where we were blinded by the sun coming in the window. The least they could do is hang a curtain on the inside of the door. The food took too long to arrive and was mediocre and overpriced. I've eaten at a number of Peruvian restaurants over the years, including El Rocoto in Cerritos and El Pollo Inka in Gardena, and both are cheaper and have far better food. I would not go to Lola's again.

I was super excited when I came across the groupon for Lola's because the lomo saltado combines 2 of my favorites...fries and rice! haha...nope, not the meat. For some reason having fries in rice just makes it seem like it's just that much healthier...yes, I'm fooling myself I know but it makes me feel a bit better eating it. So when the beef lomo saltado came out pipin' hot, the salivation immediately began and as I eagerly put a fork full of it into my mouth, all i could utter was - hm...it's ok. Sigh...the flavoring was decent but when i took in a bite of the rice, all i could taste was soy sauce, super salty soy sauce. It tasted as if the chef just pour soy sauce on the bottom and dumped the stir fried lomo saltado and beff on top with a clump of rice...the flavors did not infuse into each other. The fish dish that my mom had, though a garlic sauce, but was too garlicky....so much so that it almost gave a bit of a bitter after taste. The quest continues for spot on Peruvian...maybe Flor de Mayo or Pio Pio will make plans to open up locations in LA?

I normally love Pollo Saltado (stir-fried chicken with french fries, onions, tomatoes over rice). I ate it here a few different times, and it was pretty good. The last time I ordered it here however, I took a few bites and the chicken tasted a little weird. I looked down at my fork and I could clearly see that the center of the chunk of chicken was RAW. Not undercooked, not a teeny bit pink, but full on I am going to get salmonella RAW. I really try to support my neighborhood restaurants, but I can't think about going there without wanting to barf up that piece of raw chicken I injested there.

I have been unfaithful... I cheated on my beloved Mamitas and fear she will find me out and never offer me her delicious, juicy, saucy Pollo Saltado ever again. Seeing some unsavory reviews about Mamitas (another tiny Peruvian joint down the street), The Husband, Papa and I decided to give Lola's a try. Lola's vs. Mamitas 101: First of all, we must have driven by like 18 times. It's pretty tiny and smushed in between retail stores (can't say any different for Mamitas, though). Inside, however it was a breath of fresh air compared to Mamitas' cramped and sometimes sweat-inducing close quarters. The bread and spicy jalapeno sauce was pretty much the same, although I'd have to give Lola's half a leg up on that one - theirs was much smoother and didn't totally knock my palate on it's butt. Now, I am a Pollo Saltado fan and Mamitas wins hands down, no questions. Lola's was tasty, but a bit on the dry side. The potatoes were huge, and the chicken scarce, making it hard to get a yummy bite of everything all at once (I want it all, you know). It was missing the best part...the juice. The yummy, salty, bits-of-garlicky juice that flows into the bottom of your white rice and soaks and soaks waiting for your eager fork. It was missing that. The chicken was also a bit on the dry side (which is a bummer considering one review complained about raw chicken...can they get it somewhere in between?) The Husband got the beef version and complained of almost the same exact things. We were also bummed to have missed the rotisserie chicken we had heard glorious things about (spanking Zankou and all). Lola's does have the edge on service, but let's face it folks - you aren't going to a Peruvian hole-in-the-wall for the four star service...are ya? All in all, it was tasty enough. We weren't totally bummed leaving, and had we never had Mamitas, we may have been happy. I've decided that if Mamitas took their food to Lola's space, it might be the Peruvian marriage made in Pollo Saltado heaven.

After reviewing comments on this site regarding Lola's Peruvian Restaurant, the reviews, most of which rated the place with mostly 3 to 4 stars, I decided to have a group dinner there. I'm sorry to report that with our party of 10, almost everyone's dinner was served barely warm and in some cases cold. One person's dinner was served with the chicken under cooked, pink in the middle. This problem with under cooked chicken seems to have happened before (see Linda L. review) and is still a problem!!! I spoke with the owner several days later to report the deficiencies in our dinning experience at his place. He seemed not so concerned, offered no apologies and did NOT offer to comp the person with the under cooked chicken. I have to say, I had high hopes, given the favorable past reviews. But I cannot in good faith recommended this place to anyone while they are serving cold dinners and under cooked chicken !

The hubby and i had a day off together so we decided to use our groupon to Lolas...I have been here plenty of times before today so i figured it would be a great place to take my hubby.. Boy was i wrong i presented our waitress with the groupon she left and didnt come back for hmmm 10 min before I had to tell her i was thirsty and wanted a chicha..i ordered my drink and entrees cuz who knew when she would be back... The food was delicious.. So obviously my 2 stars went to the food and not the service. I husband finished his drink and I had to get up and ask the waitres for another soda. Then i felt weird having to go back because we needed some hot suace... We got it then she totally disregarded my empty glass. So then i go ahead and get up and ask for another chicha for myself.. At this point im annoyed and i want to go.. We asked for the bill and a box and left but not before completely passing the waitress on our way out she mutters thank you.. Ughh yes she should i did all her work!! The only thing i didnt do was cook the food.. Groupons or travelzoo coupons can be a good and bad thing.. Some waitresses as soon as they see you have a coupon they ignore you... I urge the managers/owners who participate in Groupon to tell their employees to treat the customers with respect and not to dismiss them.. Because 9 times out of ten i will go back without a groupon if i had good food and good service.. Lola's you are off my list!!

This little spot is located in downtown Glendale on Brand Blvd, near the Alex Theatres. A perfect spot for an afternoon meal or to catch up with friends over food. During lunch they have a buffet that will allow you to sample their many different offerings, which is a good way to get a feel for peruvian cuisine if it's your first time. The staff is very friendly and they have indoor and patio seating. The Ceviche here is very good and I highly recommend it! They have about 5 different combinations, all which are good. Everything was fresh and there was plenty to go around. From fish to squid, octopus and mussels they were all delicious. The Saltados here are okay, but I wish the flavors were more intense and profound. Definitely a nice stop for a quick bite.

My sister and I tried Lola's with a recent Living Social purchase. Good food. Overpriced. Abysmal customer service. Our experience started off with being denied the wine which was supposed to be part of our deal. Then, when we decided to order water and asked for lemons, the waitress flatly ignored all three of our polite and patient requests throughout the dinner. So, we asked the manager (a fourth time) to no avail. The waitress was not attentive to the fact that my sister had no napkin the whole meal. Throughout the whole of dinner, she was too occupied with busy work to care. Had to ask the manager for this. At least the manager brought a napkin over promptly. But possibly the worst part of the whole experience was that we spent the whole dinner trying to resolve the fact that the Living Social voucher wasn't recognized by the restaurant's scanner. We actually were put in the position to try to resolve this issue ourselves--during dinner--by calling Living Social to see if anything could be done on their end, to only find them closed. Regardless of fault, the waitress, manager and owner refused to honor the deal that they contracted through Living Social, even though we went to the lengths of showing them the valid deal by logging on to a mobile account as well. Then, they proceeded to try to charge us full price even having paid through the Living Social deal. We couldn't enjoy our dinner. We had no stomach to finish it. We left the voucher and paid the difference of what we owed. The manager had the audacity to call after us in the street once we left. I have eaten at many restaurant establishments in L.A. I can't think of a single place that I have ever had such a bad experience with. Despite the good food, I could not recommend this place to anyone.

I really like Peruvian food and this place does a decent job of it. I've been there several times, but only because it's close to where I live (and I have yet to find a good Peruvian place in Burbank where I work -Chozo Mama is okay, but not that much better). The staff is nice enough, but I've noticed their prices have increased while their portions have decreased over the past year or so. The chicken is still tasty, but the meat dishes leave something to be desired. I would only recommend this place if you happen to be in the area and happen to crave some Peruvian Chicken and happen to not want to drive very far. I really hope they realize how much they've let things go and get their act back together because they have a pretty primo location.

have eaten here twice, and have enjoyed my meals here immensely both times, even though as a vegetarian, i've had to order the same thing on both occassions- the fried rice minus the calamari. the fried rice is awesome, who knew central americans used soy sauce in their cooking? my family ordered the mixta saltado, loma saltado, pollo saltado, and the spicy fish dish- they all enjoyed the food a lot although a bit on the salty side. the place is small and cozy, and the waitresses are nice, although service can be a bit slow when they're really busy. i really like this restaurant and give it 4 stars, but must warn you that they charge a $10 cake cutting fee. i learned about this fee when we celebrated my mom's b.day here and they stuck it on the bill without letting us know. i asked why i was not informed of the charge and the waitress told me that she thought i knew about it. in the end she took it off the bill, but you know, an experience like that leaves you walking out the door leaving a sour taste in your mouth.

My first experience here was wonderful. It was my first time trying Peruvian cuisine, ordered the fish in red sauce (forgot the name of the dish), and really enjoyed it. Last time I went, just tried a few appetizers and was completely disappointed. I had an appetizer as my entree and at first was happy with the beautiful presentation. It had layers of potatoes and avocados DRENCHED in creamy mayo. First bite was okay, but several bites later, I wanted to gag. Way too creamy and cold.. made my tummy ache.

Good but not great. Price isn't bad either but the service is great. If you're looking for casual no fuss dining with good food that's different, this is the spot. I've been thrice and the last time, everything was a bit salty, maybe an off day. My daughter and I live only a few blocks away so it's convenient for an evening stroll and is kid friendly if you have kids. There are so many options in the area that this isn't at the top of the list unless we're looking for Peruvian fare, which is rare. The waitstaff is really nice and helpful, I've not had a lot of Peruvian so I don't know how this would compare, this is based on just my palate for food in general and I love food of different cultures and ethnicities. I'd say it's at least worth a try if you've never been.

Armenians sport the baddest tracksuits. Peruvians make killer chicken. These are statements of truth, and what you'll find if you visit this little fave of mine on Brand in Glendale. While there's a full Peruvian menu on offer, you'll want to hold on the ceviches. They're not bad at all, but the chicken is what's up here. Watch it roast to perfection in the wood-fired rotisserie and order it up in a saltado or one au naturel with your choice of sides. The trick is to get here early (like 7ish) before they shut down the rotisserie. If you get it right off the spit, this might well be the best chicken in L.A. It puts Zankou on its knee and spanks the crap out of it. Seriously.

Really over priced. Not used to these prices for lomo saltado. But I guess you pay for the ambience because its really nice. Walls are cultured with Peruvian artwork, and great Latin background music. The food is decent as well.

Come on! This place was the bomb!! I took a special women in my life to try some good Peruvian food. After reading a lot of the reviews I was a little concerned about the service. However, no fear as we arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. There were about 2 or 3 other parties there. We had the best service and the best food. I would recommend the papa a huancaina and the ceviche. I haven't had crystal beer in a long time and it tasted great. My date had wine and I had her try both the Chicha and Crystal. About a half hour later the restaurant was packed!!! Thanks for a great night..

This restaurant should not be allowed to advertise in groupon or should not attempt to advertise at all since they have put out a deceptive, misleading, or untruthful statements by not disclosing that the purchased discounted price as advertised is good only for certain dates or not valid on certain occasions. What an absurdity! They led the non-suspecting discount customers into their restaurant only to be denied services when they feel so or when their regular customers have not filled their place. Too much management discretion at the expense of customers not worth visiting this place.

This is easily my favorite peruvian restaurant and just my luck, I found it after going to the theater a couple doors down. I almost didn't pop in because it looked so fancy from the outside and well, lets face it. I'm ballin on a budget. I'm a huge lomo saltado fan and OMG this place takes the cake. The beef quality is excellent and cooked to perfection. I've been to a couple other peruvian restaurants and the beef is always a little tough and a little chewy. At Lolas, its tender and juicy. Also its on the classier side. A nice place to take a date. Chicha Morada was also on point. Service. and Wine. They also have an iPad menu. I loved our server, she was very friendly and helpful with reccomendations.

UPDATE Recommend calling ahead for rotisserie chicken and anticuchos. The last 2 times they didn't have any chicken available and on most recent visit they were also out of anticuchos. Sadly, I think their patronage is limited, a shame given the mediocrity of the other restaurants along Brand. ******** I first went to Lola's ~4 years ago on a business trip after reading that they served anticuchos (grilled beef heart). I stumbled upon anticuchos at a night market in La Paz, Bolivia and since then I still get occasional cravings. I prefer both the aji and anticuchos at Polla a la Brasa in K-town, but recently I tried Lola's rotisserie chicken. They have a nice selection of side dishes and the chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Although, I'm not a huge fan of traditional dishes like loma saltado or cerviche , I would go back again. Adding an additional star because the wait person was extremely courteous when my co-worker's friends showed up very close to closing time.

We redeemed a Groupon we had bought here and really enjoyed a nice dinner experience. Yes, it is an upscale romantic setting (although most of us customers were all dressed casually.) And yes a nice place to try a bottle of wine, although we just ordered food. Definitely worth more of a splurge than we normally would pay for an everyday meal out. I was prepared for the dark "cave" atmosphere, which did not match the light cafe picture that was advertised in our voucher, but I was ready for it due to reading some reviews before arriving. Thanks Yelpers! I wanted to see if there were any dishes I should try. And we did! We ordered the causa de camarones since it was so well reviewed here. It was definitely a delicious and decadent appetizer, but not anything that blew my senses. I am however very glad that I gave it a try since it was pretty unique (and not at all too mayonaisey) and I am taking home the extras for a special treat. I've been to Choza Moma in Burbank, and this far surpassed my expectations set there. The food was fresher, more exquisitely prepared. The potatoes are not just some french fries that "accidentally fell in". They are integral to the whole meal. The ambience is classy. The service was very attentive, positive and helpful. I ordered the Loma Au Vino, and I really really enjoyed it. Hubby got the Pollo Saltado. The chicken was surprisingly tender and delicious. Potato "fries" were really good too. I know one review left a bad comment about the chicken not being cooked all the way through, but if that's the case, Lola's has definitely stepped up their game. No worries. And the decor is an A, so no complaints there either. We did have one issue in that another server rang up our credit card and charged the full amount, not the after-Groupon price, even though the bill reflected the correct amount. So please heed the warning of other Yelpers and check your credit card statement carefully before signing. When brought to the attention of our normal waitress, she processed the refund and a new charge slip with the correct amount, without further inconvenience. Prior to and despite the error, the other waitress, gave a very genuine thank you to let us know she appreciated our patronage. That kind of sincerity goes a long way with me, and that impression far outweighed her mistake. I definitely would like to go back to try some other dishes, or to order the Loma Au Vino again. MMmm...that definitely makes my favorites list. One last comment...they made all modifications for me as requested (mainly leaving off the rice...although if you eat it, it's nice for sopping up the delicious sauce...but it's not particularly on my diet, especially if I'm having potatoes too. The waitress offered me salad instead, but since the dressing had sugar I declined.) Our waitress started off our night by asking if we had any questions which allowed me to inquire about ingredients, since I am on a restricted diet. She knew the answers to almost all of them off the top of her head, and the one she had to check, she did so very cheerfully. We'll be back. At least I hope we will soon! I'd gladly pay the full price next time. Would also be a nice restaurant to take out-of-towners, or eat before going to the Alex.

We went to try this place because there was a groupon and it is near my boyfriend's work location. But the waitress at the restaurant refused to honor our groupon. She said that it is only valid for dinner, but the groupon did not state that anywhere in the fine print - if it had, we would've used it for dinner instead. When we mentioned that it wasn't written on the groupon deal, she even acknowledged that it wasn't in the fine print but still wouldn't give us the discount. She said that it was only intended for dinner. But I think they are using the Groupon as a way to reel in customers and then find excuses to make us pay the full amount. And for that sleezy way of running a business, I will not be returning. Also, the service there wasn't very attentive, and the ambiance of the restaurant was just okay. When we entered the restaurant, there was no one to seat us so we just sat ourselves. What bothered me was that the sun was glaring through the windows directly into my boyfriend's face, but never did the servers offer to close the curtains or even notice. Eventually someone else was seated at a table in front of that window and perfectly blocked the glare for him. Not sure if she ended up with the sun in her eyes though... The food itself was not bad but not great. If the rating was based only on the food, I would've given it 3 stars for average. But since it is based on the whole experience, including the poor service and unreasonable excuse for not accepting our groupon, I think 1 star accurately represents how I feel about this restaurant - I will not be coming back.

We like Peruvian food and live within walking distance so it was only a matter of time before we tried Lola's. A Restaurant.com gift certificate sealed the deal. The restaurant is pretty dark as other reviewers have mentioned but no iPad menus. We had: Drinks: -maracuya (passionfruit) - watered down -lemonade tasted like Crystal Light Appetizers: -plantains - could be crispier but pretty good -house salad (spring mix with tomato, pecans, dried cranberries, and balsamic vinaigrette). Happy overall with appetizers. Entrees: -Lomo saltado - bland, meat was little dry (was not cooked in sauce), and needed much more flavoring -Pescado a lo macho - Soggy fried fish in a tomato sauce with mussels, octopus, squid, and shrimp. Description on menu was really poor. When the waitress saw I didn't eat half of the meal (I don't eat cephalopods), she did offer to bring me something else. It was too late at that point. When she brought back the check, she took off the $25 for the restaurant.com gift certificate and gave it back to me saying she wanted me to be happy. I walked in around 11:45, expecting the restaurant to be open since a) Google told me it was and b) their front door was open, but the place was empty, not even an employee to greet me. Odd but not unheard of, so I stood around and looked at the menu...for a solid ten minutes. Under normal circumstances I would have left, but I like so many others had a groupon and wasn't able to give up so easily. I spotted movement in the back, a man mopping, and called out to get his attention. "Are you open?" He glanced at his watch and nodded. I told him I wanted to sit outside for lunch and he gestured to go outside. (Does he not speak?) So I sat for another ten minutes outside and began drafting this review on my phone. Now it's after the fact and I can look back on the experience. Shortly after noon a lady came out and explained that the door was open for the cleaning crew and that they didn't open til 12. Whoops. I felt like an ass for intruding but how was I to know? There was no signage with their hours out front. I ordered Lomo Saltado and a lemonade and I have to say, the food was very good (and the drink, despite its frightening chemiluminescence) but nothing extraordinary. It came in a reasonable amount of time and the portion was large enough to take some home and reheat for dinner, just right for the new chill in the air. I've got mixed feelings. The food was satisfying but not overly memorable; I don't know if I'd go out of my way to eat here again, but I wouldn't necessarily avoid it.

In search for Lomo Saltado with tender meat...I eventually tried Lola's. I've tried other places for this dish and every place I've been to has chewy meat. Lola's is the place. Lomo Saltado (with shrimp) - juicy, tender, flavorful steak. Shrimp was cooked just right (some places dry it out). Comes with a side of two spicy sauces (green and yellow). Staff was very nice. Went on a Friday for lunch. Waiter would've not been frazzled if they had more people helping out. De-licous! I can't wait to go back!

Used my Groupon for this restaurant and was happily surprised. It's on busy Brand blvd, not far from 24 hour Fitness & Goodwill on the corner, but stepping inside is like stepping into another world. It's cool, dark, and quiet. Kind of felt like I was in the basement of a wine cellar (in a good way!). The ambiance was nice. The waitresses were helpful and patient, even though I took forever to decide on what I wanted. And the Peruvian chile cilantro dipping sauce that comes with the bread is fantastic! They also had a "high tech" menu available to look at on an iPad, which had more pictures of food than on the traditional menus. I found it to be a nice touch, but honestly, highly unnecessary. Onto the food: My boyfriend had the Aji de Gallina (shredded chicken, sauce, and rice) and I had the chicken fried rice. Both were tasty. I would have liked to try something else but we were trying to not go over the certificate price too much. I was happy with our dinner but as far as Peruvian food goes, I like Mamita's better! They're cheaper and the food is more comforting.

i dont know what happened to this place, maybe it was an off day or something. When I came back to Lola's, I was surprised to see a new waitress. My last visit here was pretty good and our waitress was amazing, but for some reason I got bad vibes about this new one. I think im only giving this place 2 stars because of my last visits and the food, but honestly....the service was bad. 1. she gave us our menus and left us alone for 15 min. didnt even stop by our table to see if we were ready or not. (mind you, there was only 4 people there. and two of them were from my party) 2. she mixed up our orders. maybe she needs to write it down next time. About two more parties came in when she finally got our orders. 3. when the food finally came, there was obviously a mix up. so she told us it would be another 10 min. we were fine with that, but 20 mins passed. The rest of us we waiting for our friend to get her food. Her plate finally came....and it was not cold, but not hot either. 4. never got out waters refilled. 5. charged us for the mix up, but she fixed it, apologized, and didnt charge my friends plate. which I think, is nice of her to do. i was very understanding of it though...maybe she was tired, super busy, or just simply having a bad day. i dont know. my food was good though, dont get me wrong. but jeeze, the service was so bad, i didnt enjoy it all. It was also the first time I brought my friends to this place. I bragged about how awesome this place was during the car ride there. I felt very bad afterwards. i feel sad about it actually, i LOVED this place...and now i dont know...=/.

Terrible!! I was very disappointed the second time I came here. So we came back but this time for lunch. I ordered the al vino dish again but with beef this time and boyfriend ordered fried rice. My dish unlike the first time was horrible. It was extremely bland-the wine sauce had no taste. It was like water with brown coloring in it. Water has more taste. My boyfriend's fried rice was bland too but a bit better than mine's. So the food was the major disappointment. And we were the only ones in the restaurant besides another couple that came in later. Yet, it took them like half an hour to bring our food. We didn't mind the wait thinking it was gonna be cooked right. I was really excited to come here again since that pollo al vino i had last time was unforgettable. Maybe they have different chefs for dinner and lunch?

I've been going to Lola's in Glendale for a few years now. My friend had her birthday dinner here recently, and I wanted to share the good points and complications this venue offers. First the good. Lola's is dim-lit, romantic, and the food is delicious. I've been getting the Aji De Gallina for years, with shredded chicken in a cream sauce, with spices and potatoes. Our waitress was even able to substitute my rice for plantains -- yum! There is also metered parking directly behind Lola's on Maryland, so it isn't necessary to park in a structure. But that's about it. Here are some things you should know if you want to plan a birthday or anniversary dinner at Lola's: 1. Lola's will not accept reservations for Fridays or Saturdays. Period. We had a group of 5 and although I understand that's not a *huge* group, a reservation would have given me more piece of mind. 2. Three in our group still felt hungry after finishing their meal. 3. If you want to bring a cake to Lola's, there will be a $15 fee. Even if you're the one cutting and serving it, there's a $15 fee. We were told by our waitress that she'd be happy to refrigerate it for free, but we would need to take it elsewhere to eat it if we didn't want to pay the fee. I mean, it was my friend's 25th birthday -- I wasn't about to take her cake to the parking lot and serve it there. My fiance said the steak he ordered was tough, though he asked for it to be cooked medium. But aside from that, we got what we paid for. With 5 entrees, 2 beers, 2 soft drinks, and the cake fee, our total came out to $112 -- which I wouldn't have minded if I was full!

A nice place right off brand blvd in glendale. The food is strictly ok though. The waiters were friendly. I loved the appetizers. Most of them were cold appetizers but were very tasty. This place is pricy with each person's share coming out to around 30 bucks. The food did not feel worth spending that much. But if you want to try out peruvian food, its a nice place to start.

I was so looking forward to eating here because I enjoy good Peruvian food. I'm bolivian but the closest bolivian restaurant is too far away :( so next best thing to satisfy my bolivian food craving is Peruvian food and this place was highly rated so I was expecting good things from it. Sadly I was very disappointed , the food was blah. I Ordered the bistek a lo pobre and my husband ordered a dish with steak and pasta. The steak was full of fat, my husbands pasta was overcooked and rubbery and his steak was just as fatty as mine . My rice was regular nothing special and the platanos I did enjoy . The one good thing they had was the sauces for the bread but they only give you 2 breadsticks at a time and service was very slow after we were seated so we were waiting for our bread to get refilled but that never happened . The waitress was very nice but she never came to ask if we wanted another drink or more bread so my husband had to get up and go find her to ask for another beer . She was the only waitress and the place isn't that big and wasn't that full so I was expecting better service . Sadly I cannot recommend this place and I will not return. If you want to go to a good Peruvian restaurant in pasadena "chola mama", in old town area. Having said all this I even used a groupon on this place and it still was not worth the discounted price.

Its name was Lola's, it was a restaurant, With the best saltado on my plate, five stars I must have to rate.... I have come here twice with a friend. We discovered this place because of Groupon, and I'm so glad we did! I'm not sure I would have tried it otherwise. I'll definitely be coming back here again in the future. The bread you receive before the meal is delicious. It's hot, soft, and has a little chewiness to it. The dipping sauces are delightfully different than your usual oil/vinegar or butter. I want to bottle up the green sauce and take it home with me to slather on everything from sandwiches to salads. I have ordered the tallarin saltado with beef on both occasions. It is so delicious! The noodles are linguine, and it's lightly tossed in what I think is a mixture of oil and soy sauce. It's not oily or greasy, but it's a noodle dish, so I certainly would not call it health food. Onions and veggies are mixed in to add dimension to the wonderful flavor medley. It has just the right amount of saltiness and seasoning for a nice "bite" to it. The meat could not have been cooked more perfectly--so tender and delicious. Portions are generous. Take half home and you will be happy to eat the leftovers the next evening. Service has been great both times. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. I think it's a little weird that they bring out an iPad to see pictures of the food, but maybe it's been a useful tool for them, since not everyone is familiar with Peruvian dishes. The ambiance inside the restaurant is nice. It's dark (perhaps a little too dark), cozy, and romantic enough for a date, if you wanted to have a night out. One small downer is that they serve soda from cans. Boo. I like mass quantities of Diet Coke when I splurge on drinking soda at restaurants (I don't keep it at home because I need to keep my caffeine addiction in check). Overall, I've been really happy with this restaurant. I look forward to going again soon. In theory, I'd like to order something different to be more adventurous, but it will be hard for me to resist the sweet song of the saltado that whispers in my ear when I open the menu.

Me and mine went to Lola's last night for a bit of nosh. I thought the interior was a little dark, but maybe it's supposed to look like you're dining outside at night. We ordered the Cerviche sampler, which is 3 different types, which was good. One of them was a bit too sour in my opinion, but I get the theme and yes, it is tasty. For dinner, I had pesquado alo macho, fish with seafood on top basically. That was very good, but a bit over seasoned on the sauce, again, my opinion. My other had steak with pasta. He said it was good. So 3 stars. I'd go again. I thought the food was good, not great though.

There are just times in (my) life when NOTHING will do except Peruvian food. I mean there is just a 'thang' about the mixing of the indigenous and imported Japanese, Chinese, African, Spanish flavor of Peruvian criolla (creole) cuisine. I mean it is a truly unique and flavorful food genre that has something for everyone. That said, it is always a treat to find a new Peruvian restaurant and its even better to find one that has some absolutely delicious stuff to offer on its menu. THAT said...let me introduce you to Lola's Peruvian Restaurant in Glendale. Lola's is a new joint in the hippin' and a hoppin' downtown Glendale Strip of Brand Blvd, just down the street from the Alex Theatres. Although I would prefer to hear Trio Los Chamas, Dúo Huancayo or even Eva Ayllón than the cheesy Andean 'New World' music, the atmosphere is really charming and kind'a a perfect spot for a date. I haven't been but I also hear its great for an quick afternoon meal and during lunch they have a buffet that allows you to sample their many different offerings; perfect if it's your first time having peruvian cuisine. They have indoor and patio seating and the serving staff were very friendly. The highlight of the meal was an appetizer done with a GREAT twist, that I don't find often and when I do it sub par. However, Lola's does a 'Causa de Camarones' (see the pictures) that is beyond superb. 'Causa de Camarones' is alternating layers tower of crushed (not mashed) yellow Peruvian potato, shredded shrimp, and avocado topped with a bell paper mayonnaise that will literally knock your taste buds off. Not only is Lola's THE BEST 'Causa' I have ever had, I verified that they make it TO ORDER...so it's the freshest you are gonna have, save going to Lima and even then...ya know... ...and it was HUGE...and VERY filling...I could have made my whole meal around the Causa, but I wanted to try a few different things. The Cause was the CLEAR hit here...and I would go back for JUST THAT alone...but the god news, there is more. I also ordered a Peruvian Tamale, which is made in banana leafs as opposed to corn husks and have a unique flavor. Lola's were a solid 7. I also ordered the Saltado Mixto, which is basically Lomo Saltado add chicken. Now, anyone who has read any Peruvian eatery reviews I have written in the past will know that if you have never tried Peruvian food, you want a Lomo Saltado or a Saltado Mixto; as THIS dish that is at the heart an soul of Peruvian cooking, and a good indication of what that restaurant is all about. Not so in the case of Lola's. The Saltado Mixto was a generous portion and all the ingredients were clearly fresh cut and fresh made, and the meat was SO tender...oh yeah...yummy tender...and it was REALLY good (and I was hungry) but it was not the BEST Saltado I have ever had. The flavors (cilantro, soy sauce, etc) were just not as rich as I normally expect them to be. BUT...don't get me wrong...it was good and cleaned the plate. I will say that my gut feeling is that they do the more 'specialty dishes' better and focus on those... Like the seafood looks awesome as does the more pedestrian offerings like Seco, Anticuchoes, Aji de Gallina and Picarones for desert...can't believe I forgot to have Picarones...but that's for next time. They serve domestic and imported and Peruvian beer and wine and public parking (city of Glendale parking) is in the rear. It's a great date place if you want somewhere to walk around afterwards (like Westwood used to be) or if you need a hit & quit lunch that doesn't taste like it. I am going back, so stay tuned...I'm gonna work my way through the menu.

Okay so I discovered this place on Groupon... and boy am I glad! Amazing cuisine! Super nice people with helpful hints of dishes to choose for first timers. I of course tend to be a tiny bit picky and particular wanting a little from this dish and a little from that, so the perfect combo we came up with was the Vegetable Saltado with added Pollo for only $2 extra! Like I said I am "green" to Peruvian food other than the chimchurri rice from Trader Joe's that I love and was informed when I got here its actually Argentinean! Lol. (Shame on TJ's) however with allllllllll that being said for my first Peruvian experience I loved the environment along with the food, music and folks. Two thumbs up and though this is not conveniently located near me... I WILL be back... many times over!

Nice, dark and intimate little restaurant on Brand Ave in the heart of downtown Glendale. They offer up the standard Peruvian faire that I am accustomed to. Chicken in delightful curry and garlic gravies. Lots and lots of starches....rice, potatoes and yucca. I really loved what I ordered (which is what I always order at Peruvian places ) Aji de Gallina. But, I noticed the table behind me eating the most wonderful looking presentation of Ceviche, so I'm dying to go back and check that out. Went out with my husband to get a quick dinner, but stumbled upon Lola's and couldn't have been any happier. I've never had Peruvian food before, and my friend kept raving about how great this place was so I unwillingly accompanied him so I could taste what all the fuss was about. Verdict: A-Ok. The food was alright, the service was okay, the decor was cute, and they had some good (authentic) music playing.... out of a boom box? It was strange cause we were LITERALLY the only people in the restaurant, and I'm the type of person who believes that if a restaurant has big crowds, it means good food, cheap prices, or better yet good food and cheap prices! Just the sheer fact that we were the only two people sent a warning straight to my head. I have to admit that the food was pretty average too. My favorite part of my meal was probably the mashed potatoes, which says a lot if I'm only like their mashed potatoes at a Peruvian restaurant. Oh well, didn't see what the fuss was all about. Don't think I'll be hitting up this joint anytime soon. Too bad cause I think Peruvian food could taste so much better!

Food is very salty, but staff is very friendly and the ambiance is nice. Parking is limited to metered street parking or you can park at the parking structure on California (first 90 mins is free). Some dishes that we've tried were: Aji de gallina: you can't really go wrong when you order this dish. However, their rendition of this popular Peruvian dish is at best passable. The chicken is a bit dry and it needs a little more sauce. Lomo saltado: lots of flavor, nice and tender steak. Make sure to eat it with the plantains or it might be too salty. Pescado a lo macho: my favorite part about this dish is that even though the fish is fried, it still tastes pretty healthy and not soggy even after it's been drenched with the red wine sauce. The rest of the plate is covered with calamari, mussels, and shrimp. Arroz con mariscos: think paella. The rice and mussels were cooked perfectly. The sauce is very similar to the same sauce they use on the pescado a lo macho. Plantains: best appetizer here. The price is a bit steep for $5.99, but this is the best appetizer on the menu. Pasta with basil sauce: I forgot the exact name on the menu, but if you mention this dish to any of the waitress they'll know. This is probably the best dish on the menu. It's not too salty and the pasta is cooked perfectly. Also, they don't overwhelm the dish with too much sauce. Chica morada: too sweet and too much cinnamon. I wouldn't recommend it here. RECOMMENDATION: Some of their menu items are bit steep, so make sure you take advantage of their 20% off coupon when you check in via your pda or grab a gift certificate from restaurants.com . This is also a nice date spot. Just make sure to drink a lot of water or wine since their menu is very salty!

My husband and I ate at this restaurant twice. The first time we thought what a nice place until we experienced the customer service. Not sure if the waitress was having a bad day but she wasn't much help at all and we were constantly waiting for her to help us even though there weren't many people eating at that time. Food was good! Customer service not so great.. Second and final time we went it was raining and figured maybe this time it will be nice. We came in and there were a few tables that needed to be cleaned up. They sat us as soon as we came in since again there weren't very customers eating inside. It took them foooorever to get our order and serve us the food. My water glass was really dirty and i asked for a new glass. I got a new glass and that one was also dirty.. so i just said forget it I'll be thirsty for the rest of the night.. Not going back here again!

I've been wanting to try this restaurant since I purchased a Groupon for them. The first time I came in, it was with my bf on a Saturday afternoon, and it was completely empty, even their staff were missing. So, I decided to come back for dinner, instead. Went on a Friday night with a friend, for girls night, and it was close to 6:30 ish, it was pretty empty, but I was determined to try this place out! Was recommended by the friendly waitress that the Rose wine would be ideal for me, since I prefer white/semi-sweet wine. Ordered the Saldito (?) not sure if I spelled that correctly, with shrimp, and oh wow, it was amazing. The rice was delicious, with a slight taste of garlic, and was extremely fluffy! Then, on to the shrimp. It was a mixture of veggies (lots of onions, btw), french fries, and shrimp. The overall mixture of the shrimp, veggies, and fries was right on, the flavor and texture, was great! Can't wait to go back and try their other dishes! Yummy! Wait staff is slow, but it's nice since you're not being rushed to finish and get out, so definitely the ambiance and service was good.

My boyfriend is half Peruvian and grew up in a Peruvian household, so we eat a lot of Peruvian food and have been to many Peruvian restaurants. My boyfriend's father actually owned a Peruvian restaurant for a while in Portland.... I used to think that was the best Peruvian food I have ever eat, but now I have to say that I think Lola's takes the cake. We keep getting the groupon/living social deals, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is quite pricey... and we probably wouldn't eat there without the coupon. The food is amazing though, I tend to stick with the Lomo Saltado , Seco, or Tallarin Verde (all of which in my opinion are unrivaled). My boyfriend loves this place as well.... he says it is probably one of the more authentic Peruvian restaurants we have ever been to (we tend to stay away from the Chozo Mama chains, as they are what my boyfriend calls "very Americanized"). Oh, you can't pass up the Aji de Gallina. The only other complaints I have is that while it is a nice place, I find the white paper table covers a little trashy and unnecessary (seeing as though there are very nice black table cloths right underneath =/ And they really don't give you enough of the delicious bread with sauce dips. Overall, LOVE IT!

Been here a couple times and both times food was average. The ceviche is probably the best thing on the menu. Its fresh, spicy and delicious. I have tried the ny steak(bistec) and it was cooked medium when I asked for medium rare, but it was still tasty. The sauce of tomatoes it was drenched it added a lot of flavor to the dish. I love yuccas and they do em quite good here. Tender and cooked with just the right amount of crunch. Recently ventured here for dinner because a Peruvian friend of mine had suggested I try this cuisine. Did not need a reservation which was nice. The place is very nicely upkept and is a great place to have a romantic date. Plenty of nice wine selections and the menu is filled with great options. The ONLY reason I am not giving this place a higher rating is because the service was not particularly good. It took about 15 minutes, in a small restaurant, to have a waiter greet us and get a drink order. On top of that they forgot to bring our appetizer out until AFTER we were almost done with the entrees. It took quite some time to get the food and an even longer time to get the bill. BUT, in redemption to the slow service, the food was absolutely AMAZING!! I got the Saltado and my girlfriend got the Ceviche dish (one of many ceviche dishes) and it was all fantastic and at a reasonable price as well. If the service was to improve, I would say this is one of the best restaurants in the area. I am willing to give it another chance and I recommend the food to anyone looking for a great Peruvian dish in the Glendale area.

I tried this place twice this week and ordered different food from the lunch menu and loved it! You must have the "Chicha Morada" best drink on earth. Non alcoholic, full of flavors. My friend and I tried the Polllo Al Vino with mashed potatoes and rice and the Seco with rice, so delicious, tender and perfect portions for lunch. I also tried the shrimp Saltado with fries and rice earlier in the week, and no complains whatsoever. If you are a Groupon member, take advantage of the deal they have for Lola's. Disclaimer: I have never had Peruvian food before. So, I am not sure how "good" my review will be. Bearing that in mind... The food here was decent, but not great. My husband and I had the calamari, seafood paella, and salmon with a side of pasta. The calamari was tender, but it lacked seasoning. I am not a huge fan of salt, but I had to sprinkle quite a bit on the calamari, along with a lot of lime, for it to have any flavor. The paella was the opposite - it was very flavorful, but a little salty for my taste. It was still good though. The salmon was just okay...nothing special. But, the pasta that came with it was very good. It was rigatoni with some sort of pesto sauce. The bread that came prior to the meal was good too - the green dipping sauce was delicious. Aside from the food, I really liked the ambiance of the place - small and intimate. And, the service was quite good - fast and friendly.

I base this review on their fried yucca with huancaina sauce. It takes me straight to Peru. Most places skimp but Lola's bathed a huge plate of yucca with the sauce. For that I love this place. Lomo Saltado was bland, almost no sauce. The beef was obviously not sauteed with the sauce because it had no flavor. Even the lovely green sauce that came with the bread wasn't able to add much flavor. I might as well have been eating boiled potatos and boiled beef. At least the onions absorbed some of the flavor of what little sauce there was. Even at the discounted price with coupon($25 off $45) I wouldn't go back. I enjoyed the house salad and the plaintains, That is all.

In town on business with a Peruvian friend so we came here. Easily exceeded expectations on several dishes. Lomo saltado was excellent, ceviche was too. Lunch specials around $10 are a bargain. Restaurant was not that busy and food was slow to come out, but worth the wait. AC was barely working on a 100+ degree day and we sat near the front where it was crazy hot (it was actually cooler back near the oven!). I would happily visit again.

The last time I visited this place was before the remodel. The décor is a great improvement, however the cooking has not improved. Ceviche De Pescado- Good. Pollo Saltado-Chicken was soft and tender, however the sauce was very diluted. Pescado Sudado-Steamed fish was overcooked. Same problem with the seasoning. The sauce tasted like too much water was added. Service-Excellent. Our drinks were always refilled and the used dishes were promptly removed. Parking-Street Parking in the front and Large Public lot near the back of restaurant. I like the food at El Rocoto in Gardena and Mario's in Hancock Park! These 2 restaurants have always provided consistent taste and quality food.

I felt as if I was cheating on Mamitas! While I am very pleased with their extensive wine list and draft options (they carry Angry Orchard!), the food just didn't do it for me. Could be because this is the only 2nd Peruvian place I've ever tried. The quality of meat was good, but the aji is why I'll continue to go to Mamitas. This place was dark and there was just one other table on their way out. An inauspicious sign as I started the evening with a sangria which was delivered with a boba size straw. I guess it was meant to suck up the fruit. It tasted more like a spritzer than anything. As an appetizer, the Calamari Frito was a fairly large dish. At least it was good. I had plenty and there was more than enough to take home too. The shrimp were smaller than you'd expect in the Saltado de camarones and without the sauce the fries and vegetables had very little flavor. I think I enjoyed their bread with butter more than anything. Street parking can be tough and service was slow. Meh. Nothing special here.

Lola's food is very solid and filling. They do start you off with breadsticks and two different dipping sauces. The quinoa is saltier but is delicious when complimented with the rice. The lunch portions are pretty significant as well for $7.99. The saltado is popular among my coworkers especially the beef as it is tender and flavorful. The ceviche is a white fish that has a light lime dressing. Overall, my coworkers and I enjoyed the food here and will definitely come back! A quick note that there are several parking structures nearby with 90 minute free parking and street parking is $1/hr.

Cute restaurant in mid Glendale. I don't think there is anything wrong with this place except that the expectations were not in line with the reality. The portion size is quite big though so you will get a lot of calories. Staff is awesome. We were next to an annoying diner who directed the waiter to keep adjusting the picture window's blinds (keep in mind that this diner wasn't even sitting next to the window). She effectively shut down all the other diners' views (the ones who in fact *were* sitting next to the windows). He kept adjusting it until Prima Donna was satisfied. He had a great attitude the whole time.

Excellent Saltados! Been coming to Lola's for many years now and they always offer great food and service. This is my favorite Peruvian restaurant because of the atmosphere is hard to find a nice and quite Peruvian restaurant with authentic food. I also love the fact that the owners keep coming up with new dishes. My new favorite addition is their Chancho al Palo. If you've never had Peruvian food I beg you don't go to Mario's is one of the worse Peruvian restaurants I've been to, make your way to Glendale and try Lolas.

Came here with my coworker today lunch. Gt seated pretty quickly but few minutes later a group of 6 came in and there order was taken as well as there waters before us. Which I thought was a little rude blehhh but whatever.. We both had the lomo saltado lunch special for $8.95 which wasn't really bad because the portions are huge! The meal has French fries in it, kinda weird but it works well together :) Another server came and checked on us and asked if everything was good. The Bread was buttered right, with green and white sauce on the side. It was also my little buddies Birthday and they hooked him up with Chocolate cake which so creamy good.... The ambiance was nice and intimate with authentic music playing the background. ... Sandra our waitress was Excellent!!!! And are food came really fast surprisingly since we got in 30 minutes before closing and the food seemed hard to cook and prepare... I've been to 3 other Peruvian Restaurants and this is so far one of my favorites now.... I'll add this to one of my Top 5 Favorite Restaurants!!!

we loved this place! really what's not to love? generous portions, flavourful, unique, with attentive service. Decided to go here for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. worried it would be full, it's next to a theatre, we tried to make reservations and were told only over 6 people. even with that the place was not busy and we got a seat at 7:30 right away. from the flavourful spivey dip for the bread, to the amazing portions of our dinners we were impressed. They should be packed every night! The steak was very good. And what we called Seafood Paella can easily serve 2-3 people. such a hidden gem.

We had the lomo saltado which was delicious. I liked the ratio of meat to fries and the fact that the food wasn't too salty or too bland. The rice was well cooked, which is important to me because I love to eat the rice mixed with the meat juices and the green hot sauce. The ceviche was also very delicious. The zest, the softness of the fish with the crunch of the corn was very delicious and unique combination. I tried their chicha morada (first time trying chicha morada at all) but it wasn't that good. Wouldn't get it again... The waiter was very friendly with great service. He checked on us to see how we were doing multiple times and as my friend wisely pointed out, more is better than never in terms of service. Thanks to his attention to us, we never ran out of water or the warm complimentary bread. For parking, you could park in the front on Brand or their lot in the back. Both not free until after 10PM. One tip, don't sit under the AC towards the back of the restaurant. It's very cold there.

Great place I love lomo saltado. Its beef strips, onions, tomatoes, fries and rice. Parking was a breeze in the back. The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars is because they dont have the brown rice option. Another suggestion would be not to mix the fries into the seasoning so much because it was soggy.

I really like this place. The first time my husband and I came here, we used a Groupon. We liked this place so much that we have returned several times and have brought several family members along to try it as well. Service is always good, all the wait stuff is is nice and helpful. They don't have a huge variety of dishes, but all the ones I've tried have been good. The ceviche is one of the dishes that we always order. The ceviche tasting is fantastic! Get to try a little bit of everything. The Lomo Saltado is also pretty tasting, and so is the Aji de Gallina.

The food and service at this place do not match the ambient. I had the lomo saltado which came with 4 small pieces of meet. The server was inconsistent. She sat me down and took my order like she was in a rush, but the place wasn't even crowded. She then helped another table and told them all about their especial. Ok price is a little high ( $17-$22 per plate) but everything we ordered was tasty and the portion size was good, I am peruvian btw. The lomo was delicious, one of the best ones I've had here in the US. The traditional fish ceviche was fresh and had good flavor. My friend got the arroz con pollo and was happy with it, the only negative thing was that the "tallarin verde" my other friend ordered was not spaghetti like it should be, instead they served it with rigatoni pasta. Service was good, if i am ever again in the area i would definitely go back. P.S: They have a huge selection of wine, the place is small but classy and clean. Purchased the $40 groupon for this place without reading the rules lol turns out that option is for 4 people and it was only 2 of us, the waiter was nice to give me a $20 voucher to use next time we go back. I really liked they had aji de gallina because not all Peruvian restaurants have it! It is my favorite dish! The dishes were very well presented. The only thing I was disappointed about was they did not have chicha morada!!! They ran out of it and it was lunch time on a Sunday! Chicha is a must in a Peruvian place!

I came here with three other people on a Tuesday night and did not expect the restaurant to be filled! Pros: - Long hot rolls and dipping sauce were given to us while we wait for our food. - The waitress was kind enough to apologize to us since service was slow and food took awhile to come out. - The seco (beef stew) was delicious and tender. I would definitely recommend this dish for anything looking to try something interesting. - The portions are huge, big enough to share. Cons: - There is only one waitress and one bust boy working here during the time we were here, so they were pretty slow in service. I had already expected slow service from the other reviews, so I was not upset when this occurred. - Lomo saltado did not have as much sauce/flavor as other lomo saltados that I have tried. - The food is expensive for Peruvian food, especially during dinner time. Finally, a Peruvian restaurant that I really like! They didn't overdo it with the oil like most other Peruvian places do. I really appreciated that because it truly does transform a dish just by lightening up on the pour (of oil). Extremely dark- a bit too incognito for my taste. They really need to change the lighting in there but that would change the ambiance all together. Pollo Vino was excellent. The menu says that it's a stew but it really isn't. It has as much sauce as any of the saltados have and is not soupy at all. Lomo Saltado - huge chunks of beef - some were chewy tough pieces but I didn't mind as much as I thought I would. Portions fit the price. Entrees listed above were around $17 to $18 each. Complimentary Bread - warm oiled mini baguettes with 2 small sauces to dip. The food here is really good. I have not had too much experience with Peruvian food, but everything is fresh, hot and delicious. I normally go during lunch with my coworkers so I can't really comment on the hours or dinner crowd. They have great lunch specials under $10. Let's start by saying the complimentary bread they put on the table is amazing. I can eat that bread alone and would be satisfied. It is always warm and has this unique garlic butter flavor. Even if you're not a fan of carbs or bread you need to at least have a bite! I normally get the pollo Saltado. Chicken served with rice and fries. It's a heavy carb meal, so don't plan on eating this 3x a week. It's a good treat once in a while. Overall service is good, staff is attentive. I've never really felt rushed, but sometimes we remind the waiters we're on a lunch break and need to head back to the office... Basically rush our food! Dropping a star for the layout of the place. Tables are so close together that you feel like you are apart of someone else's conversation.

End of the world my ass. Had the world ended as the Mayans predicted, this meal would have been my last. Thank Quetzacotal it was not because Lola's was not impressive and I apologize for referencing the Mayans and not the Incans since Lola's is Peruvian food. Whatever. Lola's is a sit-down restaurant that looks ghetto from the outside, but feels like a steakhouse for old white people on the inside despite the photos of avocados and Machu Picchu because it is dimly lit. I mean is it just me or are all the old-fashioned steakhouses really fucking dark? Anyhow, Lola's tries to be a fancy restaurant more akin to El Pollo Inka than Mario's. However, unlike the aforementioned Peruvian restaurants, they charge nearly twice as much for less food that simply does not taste as good. When a server notices you walk in from Brand Boulevard and you are finally seated, Lola's provides complimentary bread and two dipping sauces. One was an aji sauce (green) and one was a mayo-chili sauce (yellowish green). The aji sauce had a slight kick and the mayo-chili sauce was interesting and reminded me of wasabi. I just wish that Lola's could have provided bigger portions for the sauces because unlike other Peruvian restaurants where they have the sauce on the side of the table, Lola's brings tiny dipping containers where the sauces are refilled too few and far between. As for the main course, the wife and I ordered one lomo saltado and one saltado de mariscos. Lomo saltado is the most well-known dish of Peru and it's literally a fusion of indigenous Peruvian cuisine married with Asian flavors. It consists of strips of sirloin stir-fried in a marinade of soy sauce and other spices with potato wedges, tomatoes and red onions that is served with white rice. Saltado de mariscos is basically the same thing as lomo saltado except the beef is replaced with a seafood medley of shrimp, mussels, and squid. Taste-wise the flavors were okay, but I felt both dishes were on the salty side. Perhaps Lola's needs to capitalize salt in SALTado. Constant water refills as well as Inca Kola were needed. Service-wise they definitely needed more than two servers for a Friday dinner service. Trying to get refills and attempting to pay are two of my many pet peeves. But the latter is what I hate the most... I mean I just fucking hate restaurants where you can't leave! Is it so hard to give me the bill and bring back my credit card within 5 minutes? Especially when the world is ending? So to recount, one small-portioned lomo saltado dish, one small-portioned saltado de mariscos dish, and one Inca Kola came out to over $40. All I know is, if the world is going to end again, I won't be coming back to Lola's when there are better tasting and cheaper options out there. I have to say, this is one of the first times that i did not get bad service using a groupon. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. She made us want to come back! We had the papas a la huancaina. Unfortunately their sauce lacked flavor, but it wasn't bad. Im just comparing it to other places where i have tried it. I've been here two times before. Both times were good but only ordered the Lomo Saltado which is very delicious. Papa la huancaina is also very good. The third time I came with my family so there were more dishes ordered. The Seco is very good. My boyfriend loved it. I ordered the safe bet, Lomo Saltado. Always a safe bet. Family ordered Chicharon de pollo, ceviche mixto and carne al vino. The ceviche mixto must come with shrimp. This one did not have one. But of course they charge you with the shrimp. Chicharon de pollo must have bone-in and accompanied with onions and sauce. This one was pretty much chicken nuggets. Boneless?!!! Really? Such a disappointment. The worst Chicharon ever. And to top it off they were out of bread. Usually at Peruvian restaurants they serve you some bread to eat withy the green sauce. This time they did not! Food was mediocre and no wonder this place has groupons all the time. A true Peruvian with knowledge of the food will quickly learn this is not 100% authentic. And it's a bit pricey for what it is. Went to have an impromptu dinner last night with old friends and decided to go to Lola's. Ive never been, but my date assured me it was yummy - Boy was he right! Absolutely loved what I ordered, which was the Chicken Milanesa and it's probably one of the most juiciest ones I've had in a restaurant! Beautifully breaded and fried, it was really delicious and moist. My friends ordered the Lomo Saltado and it was handsomely prepared with lots of onions and wonderful french fries, classic plate! The portions are very generous, which being a 'foodie', just makes my day, in and of itself!! Size does matter! On a whole, for a Friday night, it was very, very quiet but they were super on mark with their service. The waitress was sweet and attentive and patient with our requests. The only thing I'd change is the size of the tables! Their plates are huge and square and take up all of the space on the tables, so if you're a group of four, request an ample table to enjoy your meal, instead of being cramped, etc... Other than that, it was a wonderful meal at Lola's and I definitely want to go back for more!!!

Authentic, a little bit more fancy than most Peruvian places in Los Angeles depending on how fos you are,very tasty, and the waitress, possible part owner, is always checking me out and calling me chico. Drinks: chicha morada and maracuya taste like they're homemade, and not from that powder shit; I could taste the fresh clove and pineapple in the chicha. Always need at least two glasses. Lighting is really subdued which, at the risk of sounding like a pretentious douche, I'd like to say is something that's important to me because I lead a highly stressful life and when I go out to eat it's partly to get my job and everything else off my nerves. Don't want to keep beating around the bush though, I'm sure you just want to hear about the food. Jalea de Mariscos, Ceviche Mixta and the Lomo Saltado are my three recommendations. The jalea is done a lot differently than what I've had from the four other places I usually go to for Peruvian pleasure; fried muscles are added which usually isn't in there,it comes with little toasted corn, instead of potatoes it has yucca, which I like a lot, and besides the huancaina sauce it also comes with a sort of tartar sauce, an herb oil sauce, and something I think had mustard in it; whatever it was it was good. Saltado is good but I still prefer it from Mamitas more; has more grease in it which is where all the flavor is, whereas the Lolas one is a little more healthy, plus there's a really good butt at Mamitas. Ceviche is nice and citrusy, full of GOOD pieces of seafood and fish, but just like all Peruvian places, I can't eat it by itself; needs to be coupled with other food because it gets bitter after too many bites. I recommend sharing it with someone along with the jalea;those plates together will serve like 3 to 4 people. Dammit! I'm starting to talk about pairing; better shoot myself before I add wine into that description; "with fruit overtones and olfactory cues reminiscent of tanned leather and Tuscany Hills something something...........I'm too pretentious to admit that wine just taste like vinegar." Well that's my review for you; I don't have it in my gut to talk about things like social ambience, whether or not the ingredients were sourced locally,or to talk about if the waiter went through an entire monologue about how the beef in the Lomo Saltado comes from cows that were given massages and whispered mantras to; it's just good food and that's all I have to say besides that I like butt.

They were able to accomodate our large party since we had an early reservation. I ordered the arroz con pollo because the side that came with it was papas a la huacaina, my favorite (the papas were delicious). The portion was large and the rice the chicken was mixed with was also delicious. Bread brought out before the meal with the butter and sauces were tasty, too. Very nice ambience. My two chief complaints were: for $17.95, the chicken should have been white meat and it wasn't. Also, no children's menu or booster seats so not good for families. I've had better Peruvian food that was less expensive with better quality.

I got a Groupon deal that was your standard $10.00 for $20.00 and the lady told me she wouldn't honor it because I was not in a group which I found weird. At least she applied $10.00 to my bill and gave me an extra $10.00 coupon to use on my next visit. The service is definitely slower than most places as there is one bartender an one waitress in the whole place on a Wednesday evening. As for the food, I've never tried Peruvian food so take this with a grain of salt if you're an experienced Peruvian Food eater. Also I'm a Vegetarian... The complimentary breadstick with the dipping sauces was really tasty. The green spicy sauce was my favorite, had just the right amount of kick as flavor. Breadsticks were very reminiscent of Olive Garden. I ordered the Papa a la Huancaina. I was very unimpressed. Cold boiled potatoes don't taste good no matter what kind of sauce or seasoning you place on them. Definitely was expecting something better from the description. For the main dish I ordered the Saltado De Vegetales which seems to be the vegetarian version of their staple dish. It was very good and had a hint of Asian influence (I believe soy sauce and stir fry vegetables). But it didn't knock my socks off, again, this may be amazing for this kind of good but as a first introduction to this restaurant and Peruvian food in general I wouldn't come back if it wasn't for that $10.00 coupon I received...Clever Waitress lol

Yet again, the groupon+curiousity combo brought me to this place. I had the peruvian style paella and the lomo saltado. For the price, even with the groupon, I wasn't satisfied at all. The peruvian beers were great though. Atmosphere was decent, and the service is pretty good. Other than that, I just wouldn't come back here again. For a lomo saltado, I prefer the greasier, heartier, counterpart at Mario's. As for the paella, yes, it was filled with seafood and you ARE getting your money's worth. I just wasn't too excited about the flavors. That's just me, but I think other people might enjoy it here. It's not about the dishes, cause as long as you like em, you're safe here. We had the usual lomo saltado ( stir stake with anions and fries) and bistec a Lo pobre ( stake, rice and fries with an egg) then we finished it with ice cream of Lucuma ( a weird Chilean / Peruvian fruit) We were pleasantly surprised with the décor, service and the fell of this restaurant in comparison with other Peruvian restaurants, which means, this place it's a lot classier. Definitely recommend to read the Groupon coupon before planning a dinner for three and expect to have a 40 bucks break from the check....we were only three!!..oy vei!..I never learn, but it was worth it.

When I need my fix of lomo saltado I come here. What is lomo saltado you ask? In the simplest terms a steak stir-fry served with french fries and over rice. What's not to like about that? Personally, I like to accompany my meal with a chicha morada -- a sweet drink made from purple corn and spices. If I had to describe it, it's like a sweet non-alcoholic sangria. Service can be a little slow, but the food is generally consistent and yummy. It's casual dining which I enjoy. There is a small patio outside with a couple of tables.

Had 4 kids with us and they were really accomodating. 5 meals with 4 drinks and 1 desssert. Check was about 130. We had a groupon also. Which they were in no rush to redeem when we couldnt find it on our phone and they were totally cool about it. I have been at places which they were really unhappy about seeing th groupon. They were really nice and accomodating. Especially to 4 kids in our group. Food was delicious. Seafood paealla was really tasty. Soup looked delicious but I did not try it as the weather was kind of warm. Next table was having it and it smelled delicious. I will go there again.

what a great place to eat. The customer service is fantastic. It is a small place but the food is amazingly good. I will definitely be back soon.

Not satisfied w my experience today. Order was placed at 2:42 and now it's 3:30pm and I still have not gotten my soup. Three tables max in the restaurant...what is the hold up? Thanks for not feeding me today Lola.

Urghhhh..... I don't know. I wish I could be more eloquent in my review, but that may be the best I can do. OK, I'll give it another try. SALTY. OK, again. I came with a Groupon and was hoping to be pleasantly surprised with a delicious and satisfying meal, but although there wasn't anything specifically wrong with it, I really have no desire to come back and probably never will. I kept lamenting that yummy food at Porto's was so nearby and yet I was eating a dish that I could barely stomach here, instead. I ordered the Aji de Gallina. I've never had it elsewhere, so to be honest, I have no idea how it compares in the Peruvian universe at large, but I kinda hated this thing. The sauce was so salty that it rendered it borderline inedible for me. I was scraping away as much of the sauce as possible and furiously mixing whatever shredded chicken and potatoes etc. that remained into my rice to tone down the saltiness. The rice was this dish's saving grace. It was also very heavy, which I think I kinda expected, but it kinda stayed with me in my churning stomach the rest of the night. Not recommended. My companion ordered the Seco (de Carne), which I did prefer over my dish. The beef was tender, but again, very salty. I think I preferred the beans on this plate more than all of the food between these two entrees combined. Overall, although this dish isn't really my personal preference, it's probably perfectly fine in general. I liked the complimentary bread and green sauce best this evening. One of the sauces was thinner and milder than the other - I liked that one a little better. The service here was perfectly fine and I have no problems with the restaurant itself other than the fact that I was ultimately unimpressed by the food. The prices also seemed on the higher end (each entree above was $17), but I can't complain too much because I felt that the Groupon (basically $10 off) made the prices palatable in the end... though it did keep me from ordering and trying more food. I would have liked to have tried the ceviche as an appetizer, but it cost about the amount of a full entree (something like $14-15 if I recall correctly). Perhaps they could offer a smaller appetizer portion size. I reviewed some unrelated Chinese place only a few days ago that I liked in spite of (or perhaps even due to?) its high sodium propensity... I felt like both dishes we did here was just saltiness done wrong. This was pure salt abuse. I use all Groupons etc. genuinely hoping to discover a great new restaurant/business to continue visiting. Sorry, this one is a pass for me. Maybe for someone else.

LOLA'S has really delicious food. I love the Pescado Sudado, as it tastes very fresh and healthy. The service is always good, very friendly, the ambiance quiet and can be nice for a romantic evening out, or even with family members. My family has been a few times and we've tried many things on the menu, and loved all of them. Great flavor .Sometimes I come by myself or order a to go order because I love the freshness of the food. I will bring my son and his new wife here very soon..

Love Lola's. Their food is great and I love the atmosphere. I like the dim lights, helps create ambience. Great for date nights! Yummy Lomo Saltado.
