    THE BEST CARNE ASADA FRIES I'VE EVER HAD (in the OC) ARE FROM ALEJANDRO'S. After a night of drinking, carne asada fries is the best solution to any hunger cravings you may have (pho comes in at a close second). Heck, I'm even craving it right now and it's Monday afternoon at 5. The fries are so good that me and one or two other people can finish it within 5 minutes and then we crave more and wish we ordered a second one. The fries themselves are nicely crisp (not dry like Alertos's fries) and comes with a hearty helping of meat, guacamole, and cheese. Soooo bomb... This review can do these fries no justice. You need to try them out yourselves.

    If you want a good burrito you can't go wrong with the bean and cheese with guacamole or the carne asada burrito. Te tortillas are super big fesh and soft. Also get he three rolled tacos w/guacamole and the chicken quesadilla is big, spicy and satisfying. Wash it all down with a horchata. This is a good place for a late night stop or when you just want a good burrito.

    I take every person and any visitor from out of town to eat here. It's presence stands as a monument to SOCAL Mexican food. I live 20 Minutes away and come here all the time. DRIVE THRU!!!! It's open 24/7, cash only, but ATM avaliable. It's not like you'll be needing that much money if you order right. DRIVE THRU!!!!!!!!! $2.50 bean and cheese burrito as big as your forearm is a steal! The California Burrito is an amazing choice at $4-5, its a carne asada Burrito with crispy french fries. And if you're going pricier, go for the Carna Asada Nachos or 2 Chicken Tacos. Don't be sold into the menu combinations and don't let the look of the building scare you. The rule with mexican food: "The worse the building looks, the better the food is." and Al's holds to that rule in the most serious of ways. Be quick with your order, don't be offended by the demeanor of the cashier, he has to deal with drunk as***** who stumble from Detroit bar and Avalon across the street. If you order in Spanish you get treated with more dignity. Eat your food outside or on your car and shutup that there's no indoor seating because your taste buds will let you know that nothing else matters in this world. PS. Get your soft drinks at the liquor store across the street. Get your burritos Double Wrapped.

    We got Alejandros for the first time this evening. We had a Beef Enchilada, Chicken Enchilada and Carne Asada Wet Burrito- all with sides of beans and rice. The sauce on all of the food was delicious! There was a slight kick to it, and it was overall very flavorful. Nothing special about the beans and rice, very standard. The prices were very reasonable. My only complaint is that we ordered the Chicken and Beer Enchiladas separately, but they served them in one box. Other than that, everything was great. We will definitely go back for more! Another perk- there is a drive through and it is open 24/7!

    California stylie... It's not too often that I find myself behind the orange curtain. But when I do and if I'm in the right company, good times and good eats are always had. This latest time was no different. At the end of the night after seeing a photography show at The Comune, my buddy, Dave C. and I stopped by Alejandro's for some late night eats. I had been there once before, years ago, so I didn't really remember how good or bad it was. One bite of that California burrito they make and it all came rushing back like a yesteryear memory in Wayne's World like fashion. The California burrito is no regular burrito. While it may have may have the usual ingredients, Alejandro makes a savory statement by adding fries to it. Yes, I said fries. While it's not the best burrito I've had, I can give Alejandro's credit for flipping the script on the old stand by. Some fellow yelpers complained that the service was sub par. I did not experience that. The guy at the counter was friendly enough and made sure that I had everything that I wanted before I left. Parking is always available. And they also have some outside tables you can sit at if you can't wait to get home. Chalk it up as a great gastric experience...

    Great at two in the morning when nothing else is open and you're in need of a Mexican food fix. Terrible any other time. The burritos are a safe bet, but highly recommend having sour cream added to help the dryness factor. Get lots and lots of salsa also! It's not very good, but adds a little flavor.

    Alejandro's is just your average hole in the Mexican Restaurant. They offer the usual options at affordable prices. We ate here while on the OC Yelp party bus. The bus made a stop at Detroit Bar and Alejandro's was near by so we decided to walk over. I ordered the carne asada fries. They were delicious. For some reason cheap Mexican always taste so much better when you are drunk. I like this stuff when I'm sober, but for some reason eating this stuff buzzed is so much better. I think part of it is that you lose your inhibitions and forget all the calories you are eating. Alejandro's is a great place to go after drinking. They offer cheap eats that will definitely soak up that alcohol.

    Man.... all I can say about this place is CARNE ASADA FRIES!!! Ok.. so the place is janky but when your messed up, this is the only food that satisfies my cravings. If your in the area, and you want to try something that will change your life, do yourself a favor and ask for the carne fries. Its not on the menu, but the guys will hook you up

    If your a OC local then you know this is the spot for late night mexican grubbery. Dont let the paint peeling from the building and shady graffiti on the ordering box throw you off, the spot is legit. Pros: Awesome carne asada burritos + carne fries. Open 24/7 which is a huge plus. Drive thru is great. Cons: Cash only

    Dang I can't believe I never wrote a review for this place! I come to Alejandro's for one thing and one thing only - yup you guessed it - Carne Asada Burritos!! It's sure to satisfy your Carne Asada Burrito craving, BUT I can already name 3 other restaurants in the OC that have better ones - Alertos in Fountain Valley, Albatros in Lake Forest, and Albertaco's in MIssion Viejo. Alejandro's is a true hole in the wall if there ever was one. There is one drive-through area and no indoor seating. They do have outside benches with umbrellas you can sit under though. Make sure to bring a jacket on those cold nights. For about $5 you get a giant greasy (what do you think makes it taste so good?) burrito filled with chunks of meat mixed with guacamole and onions. Mmm it sure hit the spot tonight even though the meat was on the salty side for my preference!

    Quick little FYI, this review is powered by Van She. And Doritos Munchies. And Miller Lite. Alejandros is good. When I say good, I really mean it. It's good. Let me elaborate on my conclusory statements. My best friend moved from the OC to NY. I also moved from OC to LA. One of my perverse pleasures is to take pictures of the three rolled tacos, from alejandros, and send them to him. A few minutes after the sms has been sent, typically he'll reply with a 'Die' or 'is that what you do now? take pictures of your food?' Yes, it is in fact what I do when I have food from Alejandros. You see, the actual kitchen of Alejandros takes up about 20 square feet, give or take. Sure, there is an outside dining area, but at Alejandros, where the magic happens, that area is around 20 magical feet. Imagine that. If this were mexico, I like to think this would be the equivalent of a tacqueria on the street - small, no nonsense, get in-get out type of place. They won't give you a place to sit fancy, but they will give you one of the better burritos you've tasted in your wedo life. The tortillas are amazing. I think you'll find certain places don't even bother to at least warm up their tortillas before packing in the luscious ingredients. Alley-J's are always super scalding, but hot enough to make you recognize that you're messing with the big leagues. Take this burrito seriously, and it will take care of you. The asada is always a hit. Always. Hot, a little juicy, and flavorful. I know California is in a sad state of asada-dom when you have to say that the asada here tastes like asada. No seasonings. Nothing out of left field. Here, it's pure asada. Further, the three rolled tacos are enough to kill for. I've noticed a few places in other regions that will employ nacho cheese (think velveeta) when making any sort of taquito or asada fry mixture - turncoats, i call them. Turncoats! Here, true grated cheese will bless the top of your just oiled and fried rolled tacos. They'll also put a liberal amount on your carne asada fries. The product of that is a difference not unlike that between Three's Company with Suzanne Summers and Three's Company w/o Suzanne Summers. It's incredible. In the interests of full disclosure, I've only ordered about 5 items of the menu of alejandros. That may sound like a caveat, but, at the same time, I've been to Alejandros about thirty or so times. As I mentioned earlier, here, the food is good.

    It's hard for me to think about this place and wonder how much of my body is made up of the food I've ingested (late night) from here. Can't say that anything is bad here. Carne Asada fries?! MUST! Of course the Carne Asada Burrito is also a MUST after some heavy duty drinking. After the bars close this place becomes hungry-drunk-animal central. Beware, but go there now!

    Their number 7 on the menu board is 2 of their beef burritos... these will challenge even the best of digestive tracts! The flavor is yummy hot as you bite into homemade flour tortillas, bits of onion, green peppers and the very tender shredded beef, and then, THEN the heat hits you!!! OMG it's soooooooo good but sooooooo damn hot at the same time. You're playing Russian Roulette with your bottom-end within a few hours, seriously! I have found the craving to be uncontrollable and it's really horrid on my digestive system, that and living around the corner and having 24-hour access is wicked fun but doesn't help! I haven't tried anything else from here because the number 7 is awesome..... and it's 5.76 for 2 of these delicious burritos, a side of rice and beans (beware of the orange 'hot sauce' ) ....... Not up to giving them 5 stars because they only take cash and have an ATM up front and ON OCCASION the rice is a bit old and kinda crunchy, but the burritos are pretty spot-on all the time (-1 time when it tasted like someone dropped a salt shaker onto the grill, but 1 time in about 5 yrs = acceptable) Good Job Alejandro's my taste buds heart you but my rear-end doesn't

    First off: Cash only. There is an ATM there with a nominal fee to get cash. Now onto the good stuff... I spotted this place when I first moved into town and any Mexican food joint that has a tacky yellow sign with red writing is probably going to deliver on their promise for good food. The food is that greasy, awesome stuff that you wish was always available at 1:00am... and here it is! The prices are cheap (probably because it's cash and partially under the table) and the food doesn't disappoint. If you're at Avalon or Detroit Bar and need a quick bite, stop by here and you won't regret it!

    I don't understand these bad reviews saying the burritos are small, are you crazy?! Look at the pictures and see for yourself. This place is my favorite because they don't add all the BS beans, rice, cheese crap to their food they actually let you taste the quality of meat. i come here every week and have never had a single complaint.

    I used to come here when I attended UCI..many years ago..haha..used to be THE SPOT to get good, cheap Mexican food at 1 in the morning. I would ALWAYS get their carne asada burrito. There's something about the simplicity of the filling (just carne asada, guacomole, and maybe salsa), with the perfectly chewy tortilla that made it so good. Oh and the hot sauce was good, too. My friends and I always made sure we asked for extra. So based on that, 4 or 5 stars, right? But like everyone else said, the quality has gone down over the years. Plus, I went recently to order my usual carne asada burrito, and they gave me a chicken burrito by accident. I'm not holding the mistake against them, but boy the chicken burrito wasn't very tasty. It was just a flour tortilla filled with a buttload of shredded chicken. Now, I don't know if I should even bother going to get the carne asada burrito. It may not be good anymore. Plus, prices have gone up. It's not cheap anymore...and I don't know if it's good anymore, either! =(

    I'm providing four stars for a couple of reasons for this place. 1) Open 24 hours a day I'm sure the workers get tired and such, but most places open all day and night usually get plenty of business. Especially when the drunkards come out later on in the evening, while retaining this innate feeling of having the "buzzed munchies." 2) Location If you were anywhere in Costa Mesa, you would know for a fact that this town, is the reason Irvine Dwellers, and other Dive bar junkies need to come out here for a stiff drink and kick back night. Therefore to be conveniently situated in the plaza right outside Detroit Bar, you guys are truly lucky considering all the stumbling drunks and bar goers get to see your name first, before anything. 3) CARNE ASADA FRIES! Those three words deserved to be in the Caps Lock emphasis. I just ate some after a tiring four to five hour session with The Penguin of Flood. Coming from Tapas and enduring training my stomach needed food. Penguin's Amusement, that I had not been to here, Allertos, or even La Victoria's aka La Vics (spelling check?) in San Jose. Shows my lack of social networking opportunities and initiative to making it possible until early this morning. Back to the food, it's delicious...phenomenal, gave me the perfect food coma knockout...yes I'm hyping it up so that you can at least try it. If you want bigger fries and maybe a hit more of salsa on the side Allerto's in Fountain Valley has that covered. However if you're in this side of Orange County, with nothing else better to do, better stop by this Mexican spot.

    OK, I live within walking distance... I've eaten here once. To clarify, I was inebriated and hungry at 2am. Granjenal was closed. So I walked over and grabbed tacos and a torta. Even in my state I immediately realized that I had chosen poorly. The asada & adobada were dried out and WAY salty. There were zero vegetables and cheese on the torta, which was essentially a meat and breadwich. When I woke the next afternoon my note to myself read "Salty mess." I think that says it all. I would go so far as to say the Del Taco and T-Bell along Newport are better options. Luckily they have a never ending stream of business coming from Detroit, Avalon, & UCI so they don't have to try that hard.

    If you go to UC Irvine and you want to bring all your fat-ass friends together for some bonding, then offering to drive to Alejandro's is the common denominator. Let's be honest, sometimes you just want Mexican street food, especially if you're from around here. I remember I volunteered to drive here once and my four largest friends hitched a ride with me to pick up some fattening Mexican food. My poor car was weighed down and I heavily scraped the driveway going up into the lot. I'll tell you right now, I'm the thinnest one in the group and so my car literally "leaned back" all the way there. The word "carne" came up with every item that was ordered and the drive back to my buddy's apartment was probably very tempting for their fat-asses. Once we brought the food upstairs, we sat at the round table and began consumption. If you've never had the life-changing opportunity to see four big people eat killer food at the same table, then you haven't lived.

    I stretched this to one star... that was kind. There are many of these some are ok. One in oceanside is ok I stop the for some on the way back from padre games and one on harbor and mc fadden....but eee-gadds I got rolled tacos with almost zero meat I mean zero. Tried once more on those and the same rolled corn tortilla and no meat all lol. So the very last time ever I got a bean and cheese burrito and grease spurted out like a pool of it. It's cheese but I mean what is that? opened it up and it was liquid lard. the asada tacos were salty & dry . But hey....the smell of those trash bins as you drive in and bums knocking on your window is always fun. I read some of these reviews talking about this place as if its Mexican heaven? I can only sumize that they are the product of 3am dry heaves or excons out on bail who are used to prison food? The place makes me want to get a CT scan, a salad & talk to priest...its gross if your car breaks down on 19th st. & you want mex food push your car to a better place or call AAA and tell them to bring you Super pollo take out (on Newport blvd & 17th)

    This place has the best food for that late night craving, but I will go there anytime of day. They will make you any dish if you just ask. The cali burrito, and carne asada fries are usually my go to (not in the same visit). I have had most everything on the menu, and the only thing I can remember disliking is the cow intestine taco. Ordered it by accident, and won't be making that mistake again. The problems that you may suffer the next day are well worth the taste. Also, awesome prices.

    Does anybody remember the P. Diddy album, "We invented the Remix?" Well, imagine that but in the form of a Burrito. I am not sure where the idea of a California Burrito came from but these guys perfected it! A burrito with french fries? Seriously? Yes, I am as serious as Sirius Black. When I roll through Costa Mesa, I got two things on my mind-- 1) Why am I in Costa Mesa again? 2) Oh snap, I am in Costa Mesa. Let's go to Alejandro's for a California Burrito. So, if you never tried a California Burrito, I would suggest getting one. Because anywhere else is bad for your health.

    Alejandro's is great. Open 24 hours in a virtual desert of late night dining options. They serve San Diego style Mexican fast food. In my opinion they do a very respectable california burrito ( I recommend adding sour cream) and have a good quesadilla. Service is always fast. Comparable with adalbertos and albatross. Better than robertos in San Diego.

    This review is only for the Carne Asada Fries: KEEP IN MIND - THIS IS NOT ON THE MENU!!!!!!! We had to find this on. yelp while on vacation in Newport Beach. The meat was okay, but nothing exciting. It came with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. It was a good fix for a craving, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this place again.

    Please note ahead: You are going to a hole in the wall with a drive thru. expect greasy food. But also expect damn good greasy food. Breakfast burrito lovers....go here! I had the #4- Egg, potato, bacon, and cheese burrito. Minus the egg (ugh!). It was so greasy, it soaked thru my napkins and brown bag. I could smell the REAL cheese and crispy thick bacon pieces as they lovingly partied with the potatoes as I drove towards work. The hot sauce they gave me smelled like it could singe my nostrils, but in reality balanced nicely on my palette without giving me heartburn. This was just the burrito I was looking for. Health freaks need not drive their Priuses thru...

    As a local, I've been to Alejandro's quite often, usually as part of, or as the conclusion to some kind of (drunken) adventure. This place is completely unpretentious. They really do not pretend to be anything more than a simple, Americanized, greasy late-night taco shack. Many reviewers do not seem to appreciate that, but at this kind of place I prefer my employees to have an air of apathy about them, however, I have never experienced anything as bad as some of the reviews have mentioned here. It's obviously not the cleanest place in the world, but if you are expecting clean from a late night taco shack you are probably the kind of person that is often disappointed. The food is not great here, but it is not bad either. This place does not really compare to the food on the LA mexican scene. It would be utterly foolish to try and compare this place to King Taco as some have done. The fried, ultra-greasey Dionysian tacos at this place are about as far away from the Epicurean simplicity of LA's tacos as one can imagine. It's better not to compare apples and oranges. Another thing to keep in mind. I would rate this place one star lower for the daytime, but I almost never go here earlier than 2 am, and there is essentially nothing else available at that time. During the day you should just go to El Toro Bravo a few blocks away. I happily recommend all of the following dishes: - Chicken Tacos combo. This is the only place at which I like chicken tacos, or chicken at a mexican restaurant in general. Yes, the tacos are as greasy as a an Emo kid's hair, but the chicken is remarkably tender, and juicy. The crunch of the tacos, with the tenderness of the chicken is the source of true taco shack bliss. - Carnitas Plate. This is the least-greasy option at this place. They do an excellent guacamole, thick, and chunky, and well-spiced. They give you what must be over a pound of carnitas, and some corn tortillas. I haven't had this in a while, but I recall the carnitas being fairly juicy. This can easily feed two people. - Breakfast burritos. Truthfully, if you want the best breakfast burrito in the OC, you need to go to Los Primos on Adams and Brookhurst, but if you want a very early, or very late breakfast burrito you may look no further. They are simple, and the house hot sauce goes well with them. The bacon is more like thick ham, and it is quite flavorful, and very savory. Giving the burrito a strong "meaty" sensation. My only complaint is that the cheese never seems to get melted, which is a problem in all of their burritos. But their tortillas are delicious. - California Burrito. I just tried this for the first time, shame on me! Yes, this is the anti-thesis to LA mexican, and it is not as authentic as I am sure they make them in San Diego, this creation's birthplace, but I found it to be excellent. The carne is way below LA standards, it is far too tough, but it still has a nice flavor, and is juicy. It combines very well with the sour cream, and the saltiness of the fries. If you have a 3 am carb craving, this is perfect. They tortilla was hot, a little buttery, cheese was soft (though not melted, which kind of worked in this burrito oddly enough), and the flavor combination was just perfect. I think this burrito must have been invented by a German...meat + potatoes + sour cream in a tortilla? If the German's hadn't had yeast this is what they all would've been eating centuries ago! Finally, the sauce at Alejandro's has been bashed, but you have to accept it for what it is. it is not super spicy, but it is not bland either. I fin it has just the right kind of kick, and a certain flavor that seems to somehow compliment every item on their menu. It's a workhorse sauce, and it functions beautifully as such. I especially love it on their rice and beans. It blended very well with the sour cream in my California Burrito tonight. If you ask you can get extra for free as well. All of the menu items are around $5 + tax. In conclusion, this is a solid late night stop. As a day-time place, it's only ok, three stars, but after 2 am, this becomes THE place to get your fix. Unless you want to drive to LA to get El Taurino. Alejandro's serves its function, and does what it is supposed to, to the best of its abilities. It has earned its title as a go-to spot in the OC.

    Two words: breakfast burritos. I give Alejandro's 3.5 stars - I round down for consistency. Needed a quick breakfast fix to fuel the Disneyland adventure that was ahead of us. Alejandro's breakfast burritos were the perfect way to start our day. Piping hot potatoes, cheese, eggs and chorizo (my custom addition to the burrito) stuffed into a soft and flavorful tortilla. Take a big bite of that with their hot sauce - talk about breakfast of champions! The burrito was hefty - definitely exceeded my stomach's capacity for a morning meal. The burrito was a little chorizo-heavy, but it was good nonetheless. I would definitely come back to try some of their other heart- stopping menu items (aka carne asada fries!). Alejandro's is that hit-the-spot, late night, hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint that they need more of in the Bay Area.

    Had a drunken night of mischief and debauchery at Detroit and Avalon? Well your night isn't complete until you've experienced the heaven that is Alejandro's. It's open 24 hours and there's a drive-thru. Outdoor only seating area, so you might find yourself conversating with a burnt-out incoherent homeless man who's had way too many acid trips in his day at 2 in the morning, but you might be just as drunk and incoherent, so go with it. About the food: this greasy, mouthwatering deliciousness is amplified when you're in a state of intoxication, and will undoubtably bring you to a state of intoxication if you are not already. So hungry you could eat a horse? Get the carne asada fries. It's a HUGE portion of french fries, carne asada, cheese, sour cream and guacamole, and it's ok to say "no bitch, I ain't sharing." Their tacos and burritos are also unparalleled to any mexican restaurant north of the border. 4 stars because it's cash only, and who wants to pay an ATM fee?

    I think this place has potential to be very great, but they take no pride in their work and just do not care haha. The quality of the food is good, but it is like a 6 year old put the food together and threw it in a to-go box. Just no love...which makes me sad because I usually feel it is a safe bet to eat at a Alejandros, or Albertos, Alertos, etc. I have given these guys several chances in a long period of time and they just do not impress me. I usually either get a burrito or the carne asada fries and if you just are eating for the sake of hunger rather than enjoyment this is the place. It is hard to get away from this place because it is convenient in location and hours. I am sure if you are partying or just hungry late at night this place would satisfy you, but if you are willing to take the journey please do.

    All I've ever had here was the #5 breakfast burrito, but it's good enough to earn 4 stars from me. Eggs, cheese, and french fries embedded inside a large tortilla, served with 2 small containers of (not so hot) hot sauce. Washed down with a root beer, this is the BEST after/before/during Detroit bar snack/late night meal. I should try something else, but why stray from what you know is awesome?

    There are so many mexican food places on 19th, each has their own draw and unique qualities ... this one's are the convenience, hours, and consistently hearty, comfort food. Cash only, drive through or walk up window, generous proportions, open late, willing to sell individual tortillas!! They do the type of carne asada burrito (too much for me) that people like: carne asada, pico de gallo and guacamole. The re-fried beans are rich and yummy - like they use lard(a plus) and they over stuff their tacos :)

    So I came here freshman year of college (2006) and the food was amazing. This was the first place I ever had guacamole and liked it. Then I started going to San Diego every weekend and got acclimated to *really* good Mexican food. The result? Now that I know better, Alejandro's tastes bland. The meats are just mediocre and although the portions are nicely sized, you get exactly what you pay for. On the other hand, this place is dirt cheap and open 24 hours which is convenient for drunkenk munchies.

    I only come here for their carne asada burritos but let me tell ya, those are definitely worth coming for. Alejandros is one of the few places where guacamole comes standard in their carne asada burritos without an extra charge. That's gotta be a few stars for that alone. When I think of a good burrito, I think of something simple- meat and tortilla, I could do without all the other craziness [lettuce, mushrooms, fries, flies, mice etc.- just kidding on the last 2... but really]. Alejandro's satisfies me on both counts: deliciously marinated meat and a warm soft tortilla. The other ingredients compliment the meat and tortilla just fine. Another thing I like about this place is the hours. Can't get any better than 24/7. You might also wonder if there is anything to be said about customer service for a place that is only serving you meals to-go. To satisfy that curiosity, I will entertain you with a story: I came here late at night once and ordered the usual carne asada. Being late at night and tired as I was, I paid the dude and forgot to wait for my burrito. I realized halfway home that I forgot my burrito so I drove back, and to my wonderful surprise they still gave me a burrito instead of just jacking my money. The end

    3.5 stars... Ok so I have a soft spot for this place because when I was at UCI, this was my number one spot to fulfill all my late night cravings (especially on those oh so imfamous sharkeez nights...*shudder* oh the memories....) anyway, i particularly love this place because when you first drive up, you really can't understand what the heck the guy on the other end is saying. you aimlessly spit your order at the box, when you hear a noise back, you just hope that your order will be right when you get to the window. Anyway, some of my favorite college memories stem from "alejandros late night food runs" (which probably added to the 40 lbs I gained my freshman year, but i digress) Ok, here is a sampling of my absolute favorite things from this joint: Breakfast burrito- egg, ham, potato, and cheese. this thing HITS THE SPOT everytime. the tortilla is nice and warm, and the cook the egg, ham and potato on the griddle so there is a nice char on the ham pieces. oooooooiy this thing is good! plus add summa their special hot sauce, and you;ve got yourself the goods. and i mean GOODS. California burrito- carne asada, guac, and french fries....seriously, need i say more??? shredded beef burrito- this thing is straight up beef. no muss no fuss no veggie no rice no beans- just a tribute to the carnivores who indulge in tender beef braised in a mix of their secret spices, tomato, and chilies. with each bite and little juice dribbles down....you know you're in for a meaty delicious treat. Those are a few of my favorites. each burrito ranges about $3.50-$5. It's a hole in the wall little stand that brings tears of joy every time we reunite!

    Came here for a after Long Beach Grand Prix meal. Chicken and cheese burritos were YUMMY but shrinking in size. I also got the Chicken nachos which are also shrinking like a frightened turtle. Still yummy and worth the money but not sure for how much longer at this rate.

    Let it be known that this place deserve a 5 no matter what I think of their food; I've driven my car 20 minutes to get their burrito on a late night probably 50 times... so for me to knock them at this point would make me look stupid. Their breakfast burrito #2 is the bombest burrito ever. Its huge, its got french fries, ham, cheese, and that hotsauce... whew. David Spade in "Tommy Boy" comes to mind, "I can almost hear you getting fatter." Its open 24 hours a day, and they take only cash, and its in a neighborhood that is kinda.. so / so in terms of comfort level, and i can tell you, some of the most amazing homeless-happenings i've ever seen happened in front of this place.=D (We're talking bums exuding every possible human emotion within a span of 2 minutes.. it was like shakespeare.) Who to bring: your lower maintenance friends (people who are uncomfortable outside of gated communities would not do too well) How much cash you need: 10 bucks. When to go: 2 AM.

    I love this place for being open late and for their carne asada and california burritos. I recently discovered that they also have carne asada frieds (~$7). While they may not be economical, they offer an insight into what it tastes like to sell your soul to the devil. I love that I can walk here from the Avalon bar across the street with drunken munchies and leave happy.

    Epic Mexican Food. This is the best taco stand place in all of Orange County, and possibly the world. From the exterior you expect standard, greasy food that is so so. Alejandro's doesn't care what it looks like, because it knows it's the best Mexican food around. If you have hang ups about shady characters, graffiti environment, and crowds of drunken people around your car, get over it. Don't you know the Mexican Gods of Grub are carefully working inside to make some of the best food you will ever have? The three rolled tacos with guacamole is the holy grail of late night meals. The carne asada burritos is the best I've ever had. A good reason to leave the bar by 1:45 to avoid the lines. Even if there are 12 cars in line, it's worth it. The hidden gem of Coast Mesa.

    I'm giving this place four stars just because their breakfast burrito with potato, eggs and cheese never ceases to satisfy my late-night cravings for breakfast burritos. Despite the fact they they've raised their prices a bit and that they're in a much more sketch area than Albatros, this place is still always worth the drive over here for a breakfast burrito. For just about anything else, I'd probably go to Albatros. Carne asada fries here are so-so, and the last time I had rolled tacos I was extremely disappointed. But for me, it just so happens that a breakfast burrito is what I'm usually craving. Also, their hot sauce here is awesome. Not too spicy and not too runny, either. Be sure to ask for some extra hot sauce before you leave the drive-thru, because the containers they put it in are very tiny.

Who'd have thought Lady Gaga would sing a song about my favorite Mexican place in all of Orange County? Aight so I changed a word to fit my review, but she aptly summed up how I feel about Alejandro's. I love the food, but I usually gotta make the choice between Alejandro's raw appeal of meat and carbs or my own health. Of course Alejandro always wins out though =]. It's kind of a "Bad Romance" if you will (gotta roll with the Gaga songs now heh). So what's so good about Alejandro's really? To be honest, everything. Their carne asada fries are my most favoritest ever and the standard to which I compare all other carne fries. Their fries are perfectly fried, the meat is copious and tender, the guac is delicious even though it's more of a paste, and their hot sauce is red hot secks. Their burritos are dense as hell and the tortillas are great. I honestly think it's just some magical way they make their meat that enhances all of their foods. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that makes the food so good, it just is. No other place can hold a candle to you Alejandro...I'll keep yearning for you when I leave.

    So I went to try their "famed" carne asada fries. Coming from Stanton, where they have places like Alertos, Albertos, and Albert Tacos, I was excited to hear about a similar place in South OC. I would consider the carne asada fries here decent. The fries look like they come from the same place that Wienerschnitzel gets their fries. I much prefer the bigger thicker fries like most mom & pop burger places sell. It comes with a lot of shredded cheddar cheese, a plop of sour cream, and a plop of guacamole. Presentation wasn't good at all. I can see why a lot of late night eaters would like this place, because when people are drunk, what DOESNT taste awesome? Having eaten this food in the day time, I will probably not get the fries, and try a burrito. One thing that did make Alejandro's shine above Alertos is their customer service. Kudos for that!

    As many others have mentioned already.. love their carne asada fries! What I don't love is being charged something different every time I go. I've been charged as little as $13 for two orders of fries, and as much as $15 and some change for the same two orders. Also, what's so hard to understand about NO SOUR CREAM? "Two carne asada fries, hold the sour cream". "Yes". What do I get? SOUR CREAM! "Two carne asada fries, no sour cream, please". "Okay". "Again, no sour cream". "Yes". You guessed it.. SOUR CREAM. Anyway, aside from their carne asada fries, everything is just average. However, I can honestly say that Alejandro's has the best carne asada fries within a respectable distance of UCI. Also, what's up with all the bums? They seem to congregate just at the Alejandro's parking lot around there. Haha.

    Without question, the best Breakfast Burrito I have EVER HAD, no lie! The Breakfast Burrito #4: Eggs, Bacon, French Fries, Cheese with their hot sauce. I've never had anything so greasy and so delicious. not in the mood for a breakfast burrito? no problem. The Carne Asada Fries are also out of this world! French Fries smothered in cheese, carne asada, guacamole, and sour cream. The drive-thru is 24 hour also! Only 1 small problem, Cash only. (they have an ATM at the front though) Alejandro's is seriously the best thing ever after a late night of drinking in Costa Mesa, Newport, or Huntington Beach. Go Go Go Go!

    Alejandro, Alejandro...Ale Alejandro I like coming to you because when I used to live in Costa Mesa you were the first carne asada burrito I had ever in my life and from then on I was hooked. That is how I love my burrito, meat and guac, no frills, no cheese, no beans = no gas, yeah! They're awesome because they have two drive through windows so if you have a passenger, put them to work and let them pay for the food and hold it too instead of you handing it to them. So it's relatively simple buying their stuff here, I do have to warn you though, a lot of the pricing from their menu isn't updated so you may want to check things through with them. Also it's no picnic eating outside. It's not exactly the safest looking place to eat in the middle of the night if you are on a food run. Probably good location for the folks who just came out of the Detroit Bar looking for something to eat. Did I mention they are 24 hours? Really appreciate that they laid off the salt on their asada because part of the reason I stopped going to them was the overly salted burrito. Other than that, all's good.

    this location is the best of all the ones ive been too. get the carne asada burrito and three rolled taco with guac. ask for some carrots. this place also has lower prices than the rest. the tustin one is expensive, like $1 more for the 3 rolled tacos. while youre here, get gas at the shell across the street, its one of the cheapest gas stations in OC.

    I am a "gringo" and have been coming here for years. The burritos are consistently good. There has been a price increase, but you can still get a good-sized, delicious chicken burrito for a little over $3.00. The carne asada burritos are excellent....just make sure you tell the cashier you want guacamole on it. I don't understand these whiners who complain.....the cashiers have always been courteous and are more than happy to give you extra salsa for free. If you want sit-down waiter service, go to El Ranchito...this place is for a quick, tasty late-night burrito.

    Love this place. Whenever we're around the Costa Mesa/Newport area partying and we're hungry, we always end up here. Their carne asada fries are to die for. We've always had arguements with friends about which place was better. This one, or Boca del rio back in home in Hacienda. Before I didn't even think it was close but having had Alejandro's quite a bit in the last few months (twice this weekend) I'm starting to come around. Be aware though, eating here will give you lots of gas the next day and possibly number 3 but it's still worth it.

    This is a great late night treat. Their rolled tacos are tasty... so are there breakfast burritos. You can't go wrong here, especially after a visit to Detroit bar. The only thing that's a little annoying about this place is that there seems to be a group of homeless people who frequent this center. Yes it's greasy.. but it's Mexican! They have tasty tortillas and their beans are the ultra-tasty lardy version. It's like each bite of the burrito is like a mini greasy burrito sliding around your arteries. Well worth it.. and now damn, I'm hungry!

    Alejandro's Mexican Food is the best Mexican short order/fast food place I have tried, and I have eaten at myriads of "hole in the walls" and drive-ins. Every time I go surfing I stop by Alejandro's and experience the kind of ecstacy that only a man-sized, freshly prepared bean and cheese burrito and three rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole can provide. I've introduced numerous other people to this Mexican oasis and they all agree that the food and prices cannot be matched. If I had to move to Africa, I would not fear the malaria nor the hot Saharan sun; I would fear the prospect of never having a burrito from Alejandro's Mexican Food again.

    A 4 star, hole-in-the-wall, not even a restaurant but the burrito is so good... you get it. I live in LA, so when I'm in the OC area, I make the extra drive to Alejandro's b/c I don't know when I'll be around again to eat there. It's worth it! I've only had the carnitas burrito. It's so good I can't bring myself to try anything else. My friend that got me into this place gets the other burritos though and swears by them. The place only accepts cash, but they do have an ATM available there. And they're open 24 hrs so that's great. There is no dining in either. Just a drive through.

    Alejandro's is the equivalent of the first girl I kissed, but for carne asada. I will always have a special place in my heart for it. Their tortillas are great and the carne mixed with the guacamole pico and hot sauce is a great combo. There may be better or more legit places in costa mesa. See El Toro Bravo. But Alejandros is delicious, open late, and reliable place to score a delicious burrito.

    Another of my favorite volume and value eateries. I remember back in freshman year at the UCI dorms as a hungry student back in 1998. We were hungry after playing hours of Starcraft and realizing that everything was closed even In n Out burger. So we heard from the grapevine that there is cheap Mexican food for cheap. So what I recommend is the carne asada burrito and the carne asada nachos. Nothing can go wrong here but don't expect a healthy meal from here. The guacamole, beef, cheese, combo will not help your cholesterol levels at all. BTW I think their tortilla is nice soft warm and chewy. This place has no place to sit to eat ... just order through the drive thru or use the window. Take home and eat.

    This is by far the worst Mexican Place I have ever been too. Ordered a Carne Asada burrito and it was completely over salted. It was like someone had accidentally tipped over the whole entire canister of Salt. The Chorizo Burrito was not only salty, but the greasy as hell. The 3 rolled tacos with guacamole was just as bad. There was hardly any meat filling at all. It was basically just a rolled up tortilla fried and the guacamole tasted like it came out of a box. Note to self, I will never cheat on Albatross ever again.

    Since there are no Carne Asada fries here in the Bay area I think this place is awesome. I guess the only thing that sucks and I always think this sucks is they don't accept debit nor credit so you have to use the atm right beside the order window. So the ridiculous charge will be put on the card which is lame but worth it for this kind of mexican food. This place is also great because it's open all day every day 24/7 and I really hope I can find a mexican place where they make carne asada fries or I'll just bring the fries and tell them to make it themselves.

    Two stars is me attempting to be veeeerryyy nice to this place. This is a very sad attempt at Mexican food and I'll probably never come back again and I feel so awful writing this review but it had to be done. Cons: The carne asada was so bland I almost didn't want to finish my taco. I also tried the carne asada fries and I took two bites and I did not want to have anymore. The guac on both the taco and fries tasted like powdered, fake guac and the salsa that they gave us was probably water with red food dye in it, so tasteless! Pros: It's open late and the people working are friendly. I'm gonna try to find a better late night taco spot because this one doesn't do the trick :(

    We went here at 230 in the morning had the munchies we were not drunk we just were hungry service sucks we got 3 rolled tacos with guacamole if that's what you want to call it aka taquitos and some funky green sauce with some cheddar cheese shredded on top of it horrible all it was was fried tortillas and some kind of dried brown stringy meat on the inside and barely any meat. Horrible taquitos the guys attitude sucked and the service was horrible too. .. not going back.... bluh!! Alertos is so much better!!

    For a food lover like me being a night owl can be a huge set back when it comes to finding good eats after dark. My go to is usually taco bell, but not only does the one in my area close at 1am, but it's over priced, and I'm always left hungry. In my opinion Alejandro's has a something for everyone, and even offers vegetarian options like their potatoe tacos which I've yet to try. I HAVE tried the chicken tacos though, and they are to die for. The shell is home fried from a flour tortilla, the meat is perfectly seasoned, juicy, mildy spicy, and the best part is they don't skimp. They tend to be on the greasier side, and I've found gristle and fat on occasion, but the pro's def outweigh the cons. Aside from the chicken taco's I like to order the bean, rice, and cheese burrito with extra cheese, but there seems to be something lacking with this one. It can fill u up, but ull be left unsatisfied. I recommend adding the guacamole on the inside, because if u order it on the side (if ur a guac lover like me) then ull be dissapointed. It brown's fast, and lacks bulk. At the end of my meal I'm full, pleased and satisfied and I still have leftovers to tithe me over when I start to feel hungry again. Overall I give this place 2 thumbs up. I'm a frequent flyer for SURE!!

    So sad, I've eaten their California burritos before and they're pretty good. This time I ordered the carne asada burrito and was a little disappointed. It was basically just meat wrapped in a tortilla. Granted, if you look up the definition of a burrito, this is what it is defined as, but still it was sub-par and really salty. Some cheese, onions, and beans would have been nice. The real reason why I'm giving this place a one star though is because it gave me diarrhea for two days straight. I wish I was lying, but some of the reviews here about food quality are true. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back for their delicious California burritos :(

Their salsa is epic but they are pretty anal about giving it out, asked the guy for extra salsa a number of times and had him ask me "how many did you want?"     Not your average size taco. They are not shy with their meat at all! I wish I would've known before I ordered. Starving of course so I ordered 2 taco and 1 cheese enchilada. I was waaay full after one taco. The meat they put on one is equivalent to 3 average size tacos. No joke! So you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Pros: Awesome for staying open late and food is cheap. Cons: The cheese in my enchilada wasn't melted all the way through but the sauce was decent. Carne asada taco seemed heavy with very little flavor. Wished I asked for hot sauce. Guacamole tasted like pre-mix packaged guacamole. The food was overall ok.. Nothing id remeber.

    This is a pretty frequent lunch spot for me! I highly recommend the tortas, California burrito, and breakfast burritos. I tried getting a chicken burrito once and it was literally entirely chicken. No rice, no beans, only chicken. Probably great for bodybuilders, but it was a bit much for me. The chorizo burrito was so full of chorizo that the bright orange oil seeped through the wrapper and bag, and a little bit got onto my boyfriend's car and possibly the carpet in my apartment. Oops. Lesson learned: eat everything right away! You know you want to anyway. The tortas include guac. The bread is nice and toasty and the meat is flavorful. Adding hot sauce is good, but not necessary. (To the people complaining about hot sauce stinginess: while I've never encountered that myself, perhaps if hot sauce is that important to you, begin carrying a bottle wherever you go?) They have the regular soft drink selection, as well as horchata, piña, jamaica, and tamarindo. Their drive-through menu seemed to have more items on it than the walk-up menu, idk what's with that. Oh, and the workers are always super nice! Overall, I dig it.

    After a night of drinking, we stopped by Alejandro's for some burritos to satisfy our late night munchies. Next morning I had the worst food poisoning ever. It was so bad that I had to be taken to the emergency room. Took me days to fully recover. I definitely DO NOT recommend this establishment. I wonder when the last time the health department inspected Alejandro's. I'm sure they would find tons of violations.

In college this was the special place we would go to and it's the only place in Orange County I consider world class!     If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The food here never has much flavour. The price is always different for off-menu items. Call me a moron for returning here if you want, but all the times I have eaten a simple BRC (bean rice cheese) or BR (beans and rice) burrito, I immediately felt terrible afterwards. I ate a BR burrito today (hadn't visited this place in months, thought it might have improved). I just spent 50 minutes fighting regurgitation, and I still feel terrible. Don't eat here. It isn't worth it.

    Best Mexican Drive Thru around. Open late and always a great munchie. If you live in OC or are visiting, definitely check them out. Try the California Burrito with Sour Cream, the taquitos with guac and cheese, and a Jamaica or Horchata.

    My family was here last night. Kind of shabby. Just for drive thru. It was ok not great. Kind of greasy. I got beef tacos which was limited on taste. My son got the cheese quesadilla which I could of wrung the grease out of. My husband got the carnitas burrito which he said ok. I don't know.     Ahh, my absolute favorite place to eat at 2 am. I'm not often in the area at that time but no matter what time of day if I'm close I'm getting my burrito here. They cater to my crazy vegan request of just beans and rice but from what all my friends tell me the other menu items are pretty tasty and if you master something as basic as "just beans and rice" I think that's a pretty safe bet. I love the guacamole and the house salsa--I always order extra. The portions are way bigger than Del Taco or Taco Bell and oh, the fresh tortillas, be still my taste buds, that's probably my favorite part. Totally an after bar hot spot, they have been here for ages with a bit of wear and tear to the eyes. The drive thru usually always has activity and you can hear people shouting their orders. There is a walk up window with an ATM-- unless they've upgraded it's cash only. Their downside. They do however have a little patio area for dining and the parking lot is pretty big seeing as the float amongst a strip mall. If you aren't eating via drive thru take out late at night, do watch out for some dicey characters.... .... But I love this hole in the wall joint.

    BURRITOS are getting SMALLER! Boooo... One of my favorite places with the best carne aside burritos . Been coming here for over 10 years. A little pricey , I paid extra for sour cream ($7) and never got any :( But my burrito today was significantly smaller than the last 500 I've gotten. Was so small I felt I had to "Yelp" about it! So sad because this is my favorite late night go-to for a normally bomb carne burrito , but feel like it's going down hill.... Hope they step it up and bring back the best burrito.

    I would have given this place a 2/5 because its a cash only place, isn't the most noticeable, and the food is meh. But I gave it a higher rating because it is open 24/7 and they have a drive-thru. They have an ATM right outside the walk up windows if you forget to bring dinero. The food is average cheapy Mexican food, very satisfying when drunk or hangover though. I usually go for the cheese enchilada combo, carne asada fries with enchilada sauce and beans instead of the meat (a vegetarian friendly alternative) and bean and cheese burrito. Its basically like Albatros but better since they haven't cut down on the hours. Not the best but not the worst. Cheers!

    I've been coming here for years, ever since I've lived in Newport. It's the best alternative to driving all the way to Lake Forest for Albatros (which now closes at 10 PM), or all the way to Westminster for Alerto's. That being said, I only come here out of convenience. The food itself is sub par compared to its further located competitors. I am glad that it's open 24 hours, has a drive through, and that the hot sauce doesn't give me the runs. However, their carnitas, and carne asada always seem to disappoint me. Just dry, and flavorless a lot of the time. The burrito sizes are decent, but the burritos themselves come poorly assembled (one bite will be all dry meat, and another one all guacamole). If you don't mind the drive, go a little further to Alerto's.

    This eatery is kind of different from the ones I've been too, but in a good way. For example, A got the carne asada burrito, and there were chopped onions and bell peppers in it, cool. The refried beans are nothing to shout about , in fact I reallllly didn't like them. BUT I got the chorizo plate and it was DELISH. It was even more awesome as breakfast. Also I really loved their carne asada fries. Okay I know I know I know it's not really mexican cuisine but the fries here are a bit thinner than what you would normally get and I really like that, also it's just a big ol' plate of goodness. Tip: There is no sit down area inside, only outside. There IS a drive-thru, Cash only, 24hr!

    the service can be a lil rough at times and I'll admit, the place isn't too aesthetically appealing but the food more than makes up for it. they make everything to order, so be ready to wait a good 10-15 minutes for your food especially if you order alot, and they charge .75 for refills which is kinda a drag, but again, the food is so good it makes up for it! Open 24 hours so perfect drunk food, amazing breakfasts for those awful hang overs. Make the trip and try it out, you'll be glad you did

    What can I say? Is it fine dining? No. Is it a place to take a date? Depends on the night. Is it a place for the best carne Asada nachos you've ever had? Oh yea! They are dripping with guac, cheese, and pico de gallo. If you're adventurous, you can ask them to put some sour cream. Just take a baby aspirin after. There rolled tacos are also very good. Note: I've been going here since college and maybe once in all that time have I gone before midnight. You can deduce the circumstances. Enjoy.

    The place seems dirty and the staff doesn't care. I drove through and ordered a vegetarian burrito. When I got home and started eating, I found a piece of chicken. I drove back to the restaurant, told the cashier what happened, and asked if he could remake my burrito. The cashier opened the burrito in front of me, said "I don't see any meat" and then handed it back to me unwrapped. He refused to make it again! I was completely in shock. There are so many other places you can go for a $6 burrito. I will never come back here!

    I just moved nearby a few months ago, but had frequented the place before that. It is a great place to eat late at night when everything else is either closed or is fast food. I've only had the burritos here, so I can't comment on any of the other food. Carne asada burrito was great. Carnitas burrito is great (tons of meat, guacamole and onions). Mixed burrito was good too, but way too spicy for my gringo palate. I've had this food while intoxicated and not, and I've enjoyed it on all occasions. The hot sauce is fantastic. 1 star off, only because they don't accept cards. They have a drive through and a bit of outside seating.

    another one of those costa mesa "comfort foods" for me... Carne asada burrito with guacamole and sour cream is my go to (dont eat two in one night, tried once and regretted it). 3-rolled tacos with guacamole are delicious too. Dont get me wrong, this place is what it is. If your looking for fancy, high end grub...keep looking. Its more like a taco cart that doest move. If you go late at night you will run into a post bar scene.

    Alright, I get it. You're open late. You cater to drunk people coming home from the bars at 2:00 AM. But that doesn't mean you deserve more than two stars. After hearing about this place from my college friends, I decided to try it since I was already in Costa Mesa. First, I found it a bit odd that the drive thru cashier never stated the order's total amount. I thought he might tell me at the window, but he never did. He simply asked for cash or credit. So, ugh, how much are you charging my credit card? It would help to know. In the end, I paid nearly $14 for 3-4 items. A little pricey for a hole in the wall? The service was a bummer, but I was hoping the food would make amends. Sadly, that wasn't going to happen. The food epitomized the word "meh". The taco shells were way too rigid, the cheese was half-melted, and the meat was lukewarm. I remember thinking that Taco Bell would have been just as good and probably cheaper. That's generally not a good thought after ordering "authentic" Mexican food. There are a couple of tables outside, but no inside seating. Can't really see why I would choose this place over Taco Bell or even Del Taco.

    How can a place be selling carne asada fries without any of the good stuff like picco de gallo??? So after a night of debauchery at Sutra, my friends and I decided to fix our late night munchies by heading over here. It's located on 19th and Placentia, in the same plaza as one of my favorite places, Detroit Bar. Despite being packed with folks feeling similar, we still went ahead and waited in the long drive thru line that was for Alejandro's. They had the typical menu that you could find at Alertos or some other similar joint - CA burritos, tortas, etc...I was just craving some carne asada fries. At $7, I expected to have a container filled with fries, covered in cheese, guac, sour cream, and PICO DE GALLO. What the eff, Alejandro? The fries were okay. It didn't look like the cheese was fully melted though. Sighhhh, I know I shouldn't expect much from places like these, but c'mon. I sorta expect the basics at least...I'd probably only go if I was nearby and pretty drunk and my friends wanted to go get food to sober up.

    It was getting late on a weeknight and the group I was with was having difficulty deciding on where we should get some late night grub. Since the two things we could agree on were no chains and no wait service, Alejandro's ended up being what we went with. It was better than Del Taco, but not on par with the Mexican food cart scene I was used to in Portland or Austin. I ordered a carne asada taco (good) and three rolled tacos (boring). For being four blocks away and open 24 hours, this is a decent late night option.

    This place USED to be the best cheap Mexican food. I ordered taquitos with guacamole, 2 tacos (carne asada & carnitas), and a soda and the total was $11.30. The carne asada came with a small drop of guacamole and the meat definitely wasnt "asada" more like boiled. YUCK! The taquitos were terrible too. Hardly any guacamole or cheese and the meat tasted old. I miss the good old days at Alejandro's where the food was fresh and worth every cent.

    I had passed up eating at Alejandro's many times because they had no indoor dining area and I didn't feel like eating in my car. Yesterday, I just wanted some tacos that I could eat while driving, and was in the neighborhood, so took a chance. AM I EVER GLAD I DID! I ordered the shredded beef crispy taco and a soft carnitas taco. They were so delicious and so full of meat! I think the meat would have been enough for a full burrito. The food was fresh, flavorful and really inexpensive. I think they have the best tacos in all of the OC. I cannot wait to go back (and I will soon) to sample the rest of the menu.

    Last night at 2:30 AM, my friends and I rolled into this joint to order some burritos because Mexican places usually sell large and delicious burritos. After a long wait, we get the saddest-looking and smallest burritos from the slowest drive-through. You know those Del Taco burritos that you buy and they look way smaller than in the advertisement? Well, this was just like that, except this one cost 4.99. I took 5 large bites and the burrito was gone. It was salty, had about 4 pieces of fries, very little meat, very little of that tomato thing, and a lot of tortilla, half of which I threw out because it just wrapped around the burrito twice due to meager content. I do not recommend this place even if you're starving. As with other reviewers, I really don't know how this place has a 3-star rating. Perhaps, they serve garbage only at odd hours.

    I remember during my SPOP before I started at UCI, the guys running it told us to make sure to visit this place, because it's the best Mexican food in the OC. It really wasn't, and wasn't even close either. I didn't like their burritos. It's just a bunch of meat stuffed in a tortilla. No beans, cheese, salsa, guac, rice, etc. It's not even good meat. The carne asada tasted more like it was seasoned with salt and pepper than the normal flavorful marinade. Enchiladas are alright. Carne asada fries are ok. These are what I normally end up getting here. It's pretty run down and dirty. I usually like hole in the walls, but this doesn't have awesome food to make up for its uncleanliness. There's only about 3 tables here, but I guess a lot of people just like to go through the drive through. It's convenient that its open 24/7, but I'm no where around here so that means nothing to me.

    Alejandro's is getting an official 3 Star rating, but because I have good/fond memories of this place I'll say take me at a 3.5 rating. This was a major spot for those late nights in college at UCI. From those days, I'd rate this place higher. I did remember the food being larger portions, better quality, and speedier service. About a year ago I went back and was thoroughly disappointed with the speed and portion size. Alberto's is such a major chain in Orange County that I often like to go to other hole-in-the-walls (which this place is). But the recent size of the carne asada burrito I got was sub-par at best. If you're in the Newport/Costa Mesa area, try it. But it is in a less than pleasurable area of town, so buyer beware. They have a VERY small outside seating area. It's a small shack/stand with drive-thru service from both sides (note: if you pull up on the left side, make sure you have a passenger to make your purchase and get your food). I'd prefer driving to Alerto's (see my other review) off Brookhurst instead, but if you can't, this place will suffice.

    Big, fat, greasy, delicious "breakfast" burritos? Yes please! I have been coming here ever since my cousin and I walked 2 miles to get the burrito that he had been raving about 3 years ago. The Mexican dudes that work here are friendly, but typically talk to my boobs instead of my face. But that's ok, they make good burritos. The steaming hot potatoes (basically just french fries) inside of the breakfast burritos help create a weird, yet delicious, late night meal. Like everyone else mentioned, it is cash only.

    This place is a classic taco stand. No indoor seating a a few round tables outside. The double drive thru is clutch as it allows for more effeicient ordering. It can get busy late night. I would recommend the carne asada burrito with guacamole. It is an all meat burrito so don't expect any beans. Their hot sauce is hot and will add to the meal and make it complete. Another recommendation is the rolled tacos. Topped with tons of cheese and guacamole, this is a great snack. Make a pit stop here if you can!

    It was 2am on a Saturday night, and my girlfriend and I decide to do a late night grub session (she was doing a little drinking). I tell her that there is Alejandro's on the other side of town that is 24 hours and has really great food and was my usual late night spot. We decided to head over, and I warned her it's in the ghetto but it's worth it. Service We arrive at Alejandro's and decide to go through the drive through. As soon as we pull up, we start getting attitude from the guy taking our order. I would understand if the place closed soon and we were the last guests, but its 24 hours asshole, no need to be rude (minus a star). We pull up to the window and the guy gives me more attitude cause I have to get out of my car and get money out of the ATM. Keep in mind the food wasn't ready anyways. I asked the guy for salsa he said it was in the bag, and I had enough of that asshole. One thing he failed to mention was that the lid wasn't secured tightly to one of them and lucky my gf noticed before salsa got all over my car. Food I ordered the carne asada burrito which was good except I hit a fatty piece of meat every bite. I was constantly pulling pieces from my mouth. Here is a picture I took with my camera phone.     Next to San Diego, I used to think Alejandro's was the BEE'S KNEES while I was still living in Irvine. However, the sad truth is that their portions have gotten much smaller over the past couple of years. It has all the same menu items as any "____andro's", "Al___o's" or "Alber____o's" so if you've never been, you can expect Cali Burritos, Carne Asada Fries & the like. Why does this place get only 3 stars? Depending on who works at night (or well, any time of day), your portions will definitely vary in size. There are nights where you feel like a KING when you receive your super fries, but there are other nights where you feel jipped. The same could be said for their 3 Rolled Tacos. I used to order this one all time! It was until they stopped being so generous with their toppings (guac, sour cream, cheese, etc.). If I were hungry and in the area, then sure! But I wouldn't make the trek out. Make the drive and go to Albatro's if you can. That place is a MUCH better deal, and they also give you a whole lot more food. Trust me on that.

    This place is good for late night cravings (especially when your drunk) because they're open quite late. Not sure exactly on the hours, but I know it's late. The food is cheap but way better than del taco or anything like that. Only reason I gave it three stars cause the service kinda sucked. Also the atmosphere isn't all that great, but didn't really phase me though the food was good and I was hungry so I got my fix.

    MACHACA burrito! What is that, you ask? It's a burrito stuffed with shredded beef, EGGS, onions, and peppers. Best thing on the menu, and it's hard to get it anywhere else. What a fun name for such a delicious burrito. Definitely my first (and pretty much only) choice for late night munchies in Costa Mesa because it's the only thing open 24/7 in the area. Cash only, no inside seating!

    How am I supposed to rate fairly a place that always takes care of me when I'm completely drunk and ready to vomit on my old lady? 3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the post-party convenience. Nothing too special, a bunch of lost bros and poseur hipster drunks from Detroit and Avalon, and random fights and girls dressed skanky enough to keep you and your friends entertained while you wait for hopefully-decent carne asada burritos with extra guacamole, sour cream, and cheese (that you hope don't make you sick the next day). What am I supposed to say --- three stars for A-OK food and decent service. A bathroom in the back while you're bladder is full of beer and liquor makes it all worthwhile. I usually order the entire menu and sit on the stone benches and watch the Persian Bimmer drivers roll by trying to act hard while they blast Tupac. I don't think they know he passed away yet, and I don't have the heart to tell them. Thanks for hooking me up when I'm loaded, Alejandro's... but you're nothing too especial! Still, 3 stars for the good times! On a sidenote: Whilst here, I did once jump into some random Lincoln Towncar stretch limo while waiting for my food and got to sample the champagne and a ton of different whiskeys - I wasn't mad one bit when I won this ghetto lottery of sorts!

    Discovered freshman year in the UCI dorms, like this place is UCI's personal secret for drunk people. And yes, it is good.. when you're drunk. Or when it's 3am and you don't do Denny's or JBo. I actually went here with my anti-breakfast boyfriend for our first date at 3am. When he didn't run away after the smells that came out of me a day later after eating their bean and cheese burrito, I knew it was gonna be love.

    "CARNE ASADAAAAA FRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"- was what a drunk friend screamed walking out from the club to the parking lot. "DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN" - was not Jay Sean's song my friends were singing to but what the whole car was chanting in support of what drunk friend suggested. Typical story from what many other reviewers have wrote about already. This night though, was epic for me. Why? Because to eat carne asada fries topped with extra guacamole was the goal, BUT the discovery of the California burrito was BEYOND MY CONTROL. This place was yes, a hole in the wall. but that only makes me question, where the heck have I been??! It was the first time i devoured a burrito that not only comes with juicy carne asada but holycreamyguacamole! FRIES inside toooo? California never disappoints. All the excitement definitely helped sober me up for of course, round 2 of an epic night with great friends out. Drunk suggestions. Sober agreements. Happy tummies. Great times.

    You know...I have tried this place after a night of going out and during the day. My opinion is that when you are starving at 2am and want some Mexican yea sure this is the place to go...however, when you're craving some enchiladas, don't go here... Also, I think the breakfast burritos are a bit greasy but that's my opinion-i know tons of people who are obsessed. I won't understand. One good thing though-drive thru. I think it's only cash..?

    I cannot tell a lie, the last time I went to Alejandro's was the first time I ever went sober. Well, semi-sober.. sober enough that I actually know how to get there when I'm completely sober now. Hurray! My favorite is the carne asada fries with a nice horchata in hand. The hot sauce they give looks mean, but I can actually tolerate it with a smile. Gives it more flavor than fire.

    When I lived in Irvine used to work couple of blocks away from this place at a pre-school, co-works always talking about how good their food was. everyday after work, someone would say "Does everyone have cash for Alejandro's" turned out no one ever did! BOO... finally we decided on a date that we would all bring cash and eat there.. I'm not very big on Mexican food, so I ordered the carne asada fries! (I LOVE FRIES, you should know this about me if you read my other reviews) OH MY GOD! This thing is humongous. soo much food ! (NO IM NOT COMPLAINING) I love it. a lot of fries, topped with salsa, avocados, CHEESE, beans, sour cream(which i never get)... ITS SOOOOO GOOOD!!!! you know its a heart attack waiting to happen but you cant resist. No indoor seating, some tables outside the little shack that they are trapped in making some good food! but they do have a drive thru! On my way back to LA this was my stop every weekend for the carne asada fries. Have you ever been stuck in traffic from OC to LA? it sucks doesn't it? well Go to Alejandro's grab yourself something yummy so you can enjoy the ride back to LA with some Good Mood Food! =]

    Before I moved down here I used to drive from from LAX to 'Jandro's JUST for the bean and cheese burritos- usually spur of the moment, we'd all pile into a car and drive for some great mexican food (ritual to get only the burritos). One time we parked and walked up to the counter to order (probably 11pm?) and found a man spralled on the ground with headphones on and a walkman laying a few feet away.... unsure of the situation we notified the guy at the window that a man looked...well...dead and he just nodded as if nothing would have surprised him. We watched for a few minutes to see if he was breathing and sure enough he was.... I guess it wasn't the food but tequila may have been the culprit. In any case, returned a few years after graduation to find that the burritos were much smaller (no it wasn't because I grew) and the quality just wasn't the same. Rip 'Jandros (make sure to pronounce it with a J...not an H sound ;) it's better that way!)

    I love how this place is drive-thru and open 24 hours!! Only con is that they are cash only :( They have an atm out front, but that means you have to get out and you get charged a service fee! BOOOOO its okay I always come prepared :D What I always order is their horchata (cinnamon rice drink), and also I will choose between a carne asada burrito, a California burrito, or carne asada fries. NOMnom! Btw, their hot sauce isn't spicy. I always ask for tons of it hoping it'll get hotter with each bite, but it never happens. Haha I just go home and douse my food with Tobasco!     Alejandro'sssssssssssssssssssssss = drunk munchies. Alejandro's is decent Mexican food. I love that it has a 24 drive thru and is relatively close to UCI campus, so I made a few trips out here on some very drunk occasions (as well as about 70% of UCI). Be warned that this place is CASH ONLY! They do, however, have an ATM out in the front. I usually get the carne asada fries or California burrito. The fries are always a little too soggy for me...and they give you SO LITTLE compared to the serving you get at albatross. I mean it's decent enough to eat when you are drunk, but sober-wise? I'd pass on the fries. Plus you don't get any extra salsa options and the one they give you is not spicy at all. I swear I use about 7 of them for 1 serving of carne asada fries here and it still tastes super bland. If this were the only late night Mexican joint in the area, I'd defs. come here, but it's not so I don't come here anymore. Well unless I have been drinking and am supppppppppppper close. oh btw. Place can be alittle sketch late at night. You have been warned. Food babies all day, everyday!

    I'm just going to pile on here. This used to be one of those famous "Alberto's" locations but Alejandro's took over and basically kept it the same. This was a common stop during college after parties at any hour of the night. My wife swears by the carne asada and I love their chicken. Don't look inside, don't ask what is in things, just enjoy the food. I'm going to have to try the carne asada fries after reading these other reviews.... (One word of caution, don't eat a chicken burrito, while driving, wearing khaki pants because when you're done, your pants will be stained red. Don't ask how I know this........)

    The only time I eat here is for a quick machaca breakfast burrito or the random 2AM burrito while walking home from the Detroit/Avalon bar. Both were excellent, with the proper ratio of meat to other ingredients and the perfect tortilla to wrap them in. Definitely not low fat or healthy. Nice employees. Cash only.

    When I used to go to UC Irvine, my roommate introduced me to Alejandro's Mexican food. Ever since then, we always did our late night food runs to Alejandro's. We ALWAYS got the carne asada burrito with horchatas. The carne asada burritos were pretty big and full of meat, meat, meat!! The burritos is just carne asada, guacamole, onions and cilantro. YUM! Sometimes...when my roommate and I felt like being pigs...we would ask them to double wrap the burritos. I always thought my roommate ordered them double-wrapped because the tortillas were thin but recently, I found out that it was because she loved the tortillas. I just got them double-wrapped cus of her! Sometimes, my mom would have to to-go couple burritos for her whenever I went to visit her. My old roommate and I still talk about this place and we've both been meaning to go back for old time's sake... I went there with a friend today and I really wanted to see if the burritos were just as good as they used to be...and they still are! My friend and I got the carne asada burritos and I finished the whole burrito. It was DELISH! Oh how I missed the carne asada burritos!!!

    This review is solely for the chicken burrito, which is absolutely the most vile concoction I have ever had. It was full of tendons and chewy bits, as well as being all dark meat and having a very filthy texture to it. I think a family of lions or hyenas may dig the way they prepare the meat but I am unfortunately neither. The food still comes out rather quickly and yes, it is nice(in theory) that it is open very late... however I would rather go to del taco or something along those lines. The hotsauce does have a nice flavor though. Seriously went downhill from the last time I had been there about circa 2008. The outdoor tables are seriously putrid and there is about 7000 pieces of gum around the joint. Long story short... avoid the chicken burrito.

Cheese quesadillas never tasted better, and the popular not-to-miss Carne Asada fries I wouldn't care to miss but everyone and their mothers demand it. (I'm sure they're sick of people ordering this faux-mexicana-delicacy by now). Double drive-thru lane available, but everybody already knows you're never to use the left lane. Have you tried their breakfast burrito? Yea, must do. I guarantee you wont finish it in one sitting. And if you do, it just means you're a fattie!!

    Carne asada burrito!! For less than $5, the 8" burrito is filled with salty meat, guacamole, onions & salsa. Sooooo tasty! Nothing in Norcal is like this. I get so deprived. The area is a little ghetto and this is not your typical Newport Beach area (at least not what's depicted on MTV's Newport Harbor) but it's worth it! I love it.

    Alejandro's has been my go-to late night Mexican food spot since I was a college freshman back in the last century, lol. When all the bars close at 2am in the OC, you can join the other night-owls trying to sober up with some greasy 3 rolled tacos & guac or carne asada fries! It's a 24 hr tiny little drive-thru / walk-up window with like 3 outside tables. They make the absolute best breakfast burrito (#4- eggs potatoes, cheese, and thick bacon). My other favorite is the carne asada chimichanga which isn't listed on the menu. It basically their carne asada burrito deep friend and topped with cheese, guac, and sour cream with fresh salsa and lettuce on the side.... Heart attack in a take-out box, but totally worth it!

    This was my best friend in college. U SEE EYE sucked so I found happiness with Alejandro. The use to have combo meals that involved two carne asada burritos with rice and beans. I use get me one of these along with 3 rolled tacos with gauc and carne asada nachos. Then I would eat dinner at the dorms. Good times. This place is similar to Albertacos in Mission Viejo but not as good.

    This place has gone down considerably since I have graduated college. No doubt that it's probably still good after a late night of drinking or studying, but I went yesterday with my roomates, neither drunk nor brain dead, and totally got ripped off. They charged us $7.00 for our carne asada fries. I have no recollection of how much they used to be or if they always were this much, but the Styrofoam container was barely full. If anything, the California burrito is a better deal bc it's basically the $4.00 version of the fries all wrapped up in a tortilla. Sigh. I miss the good old days.

Neither were very good. Also, prices ain't that good for the stuff you get. Either save your money, or go to Chronic Tacos.

    The biggest thing about Alejandro's is setting the expectations for people who have not eaten there before. Its good, cheap and open all the time but its not great. The food is basic, you don't get much more than meat, beans and rice. The good thing is that the food always seems fresh and you know just how it will taste every time you go. Its like diving or gymnastics, what they do they do well but I can't give them 5 stars because the difficulty level just isn't there.

    If you need food at 2 or 3 in the morning, go to denny's. I am not kidding. I ordered a carne asada burrito, which most places have the decency to slap some rice and beans in, if not cheese. Instead I got this pasty tortilla wrapped around unflavored, boiled beef, with some pico de gallo and guacamole. This place should charge 99cents for their items.

    if you want a burrito that will be excellent every time, i have yet to be disappointed with this ONE SPECIFIC order here it is burrito: rice cheese pico de Gallo sour cream guacamole after receiving the baby must add +1 hot sauce inside burrito and use the other for dipping purposes. double wrapping your burrito is your choice. i have no preference. i have multiple people hooked on this. I'm not vegetarian but i got sick of their gross Carney asada. and made myself come up with an alternative. its delicious

After reading a few reviews i decided to get the california burrito. good but not as fat as i was lead to believe. steak chunks are fat but look processed to the max! cheese and patatas weren't even;y distributed. service was rude and did not even ask if i watned a drink, from that i infer they deal with a lot of local customers that keep coming back! so i guess its good. and any place with two drive thrus has to be pushin weight! sorry narissa about not getting u the taco! no inside dining!!!!

    this is a great spot for uc irvine college students after a night of drinking or just to find a late place to eat . there is no good food options open late in irvine. making the trip here for late night eating is a good choice. i don't even know if i love the food here or if i just have a lot of fond memories of picking up food here with friends. it's got all the great, greasy mexican food. carne asada nachos and fries are awesome and great for sharing with friends.

    deciding between 2 or 3 stars was a difficult choice, indeed. alejandro's is definitely a hit-or-miss type place. the fact that they're 24 hours is a huge plus. but every so often, show up at 3am and you'll get one of the worst burritos of your life. being bilingual will absolutely improve your chances of receiving a higher-quality meal in the wee hours haha. i quess i could say (from my own personal experiences) that i am satisfied about 9/10 times i go (possibly depending on how drunk i am?? hahah). california burrito no queso con guacamole, por favor! i had to come back and edit: i love this place, i go there regularly. i just went to highschool with several kids who had older brothers that worked the graveyard shifts, and if you're bitchy or piss them off they won't hesitate to spit in your food....hahah. so keep it simple and be nice! because a good alejandro's sesh is one of the best things in life.

    I'm no expert on Mexican cuisine, but I'm pretty sure that carne asada fries are not considered authentic mexican food. However, that does not stop me from ordering them every time i go to alejandro's. Something about the combination of meat, cheese, and potatoes is so right...yet so wrong (just close your eyes and don't think about the calories and saturated fat). They have most of the mexican food shack standards here like tacos, burritos, and horchata, and I've seldom heard any complaints about the quality. The prices are pretty cheap and the food is good for satisfying any late night cravings (tastes even better when you're drunk). On that note, watch out for puke in the parking lot because i've seen my fair share of vomit-laden sidewalks, and also watch out for drunk/coked out/or just plain crazy people if you go late at night. There are a few tables outside, and there's a drive through if you want to grab your food and get out.

    It was the closest place to me that sold carne asada fries. I've had way better though. It's not the best I've had period. It was only good because it was close or it was the place to go after a night of clubbing and/or drinking. It's also open 24 hours. Outdoor sitting area, but its a drive thru spot. There is only one other thing that I've tried besides the fries and that is the California burrito. Basically a burrito with carne asada fries in it.     I'm not gonna lie. I've never eaten here during the day time nor have i ever eaten here quite completely sober. I don't know if that should effect my judgement but this place is pretty great for being open 24 hours. I always get the california burrito and it always hits the spot. That and some hot sauce? Delicious. I'm from San Francisco and never have I seen french fries in my burrito. It is pretty tasty for a pretty good price with service that is as friendly as 3am service can get. Props to those guys working there dealing with all the hungry crazy people at night.

    it is sad that people always recommend alejandro's to me when i ask them where i can get some GOOD mexican food. the last time i went there, i got the carne asada fries, which turned out to be a big disappointment. obviously this is no freebirds because it does NOT compare! i thought the carne asada fries tasted bland and they did not even give you much. i recommend alerto's down brookhurst off the 405 if you're looking for some good mexican food in orange county. since freebird's is far and alejandro's is NOT "the best thing" ever, i go to alerto's which is pretty decent. their half size of nachos or fries is still humongous! i can't imagine what a full order is but it sure beats alejandro's!

    I love you Alejandro. Alberto. Alerto. Alierto. Albertaco. I also hate you. You are magical and mediocre, medicinal and maddening. There are so many pros and cons for this place I don't know where to start. The 5 star for this place is based solely on the fact that it doesn't matter how much you drink before you come here - If you eat here and drink one (1) bottle of water before bed, you will not be hung over in the morning. The food is so good. Double-wrap that bean and cheese burrito, two sides of quac, cheese quesadilla absolutely swimming in grease, three rolled tacos with guac, carne asada fries - it's all just plain good. What my friends and I used to call "Death Sauce" is now more like "My Little Pony Sauce". Pretty weak sauce (see what I did there?), but still good. My biggest problem with this place is that they charge whatever the hell they want. They only do this to the drunk crowd at night, so if you come during the day, you'll have a different experience. I get the same things everytime I go. Sometimes it's $8.50, sometimes it's $12.50 - whatever. I pay the man because I've had 8 too many and I don't want a hangover.

The place seems a bit sketchy but disregard its appearance and just try the fries. Its muy delicious after youve finished drinking with your friends and its open 24 hours!! So come at 5Am or 5 Pm and alejandros will be ready to serve you.

    I know Mexican food. This stuff does not fit the bill. Although I can honestly see how good it would taste after Detroit Bar closes and you're just slightly too buzzed to get away with driving home down a cop-infested Harbor Blvd. Of course, I only came here because I really wanted Wahoo's but the location right across the street is remodeling and won't be open again until January, leaving me craving Mexican food and stuck with this joint. I guess I could have done Taco Mesa, but after they changed their menu two or three years back, it's just never been the same. I had, of course, carne asada fries. The carne asada was very tough and pretty flavorless. The only time I've had worse carne asada was from Coyote Cafe in Old Town San Diego (which is a major tourist trap), but they boiled their meat so it tasted like rubber. This asada at least tasted grilled, it was just completely unseasoned and bland. It was definitely nothing to write home about, and if I'm drunk after the bars, I'll stagger my butt down one block to In'N'Out, which is open until 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays and at least their meat has some flavor to it. Or freaking Norms. Norms is better than this. Although they do have carne asada fries.

    Sorry to all the drunks (me being one of them). I can not give this place a solid review other than the fact it's open 24 hours a day. The salsa is way sub-par for Orange County. The Guacamole and Chips utilizes left over ooze from "Double Dare" there were also hairs in the ooze/guacamole. The burritos are alright here if you are drunk because they are basically meat and tortilla. The ambiance is a 2.5 because it normally smells rancid if you eat at the tables next to the drive through. It is awesome watching the parade of cars with huge rims/wheel covers blasting mariachi music as they burn out onto Placentia. If you are sober look to "il taqueria" or Taco Mesa which are a block in either direction on 19th.     Great place to get late night greasy Mexican food. Mmmmmm. Best dishes here are the Carne Asada ANYTHING. A bit salty for my taste, but it does the job when it comes to filling me up. Portion are decent sized and the price is definitely affordable. They only accept cash, but it's well worth it. It's next to Detroit bar so you can eat and party all night long! it's open 24 hours and 7 days a week!

I also recommend their carnitas...friggin YUM people. Ask for "veggies"...gives a nice kick to accompany your burrito. I love this place, but don't expect much from the surrounding neighborhood.

    I have fantastic memories of Alejandro's. Unfortunately, none of these memories involve me being sober. This is a to-go place after drinking down at the Newport peninsula or in Costa Mesa. If you happen to be at the Detroit Bar, it's even within walking distance, but most people will end up driving here. It's a bit less busy than the In-N-Out you pass as you go down 19th Street, and the people-watching opportunities are definitely not as great as the Del Taco on Newport and 17th. But the food, the food. The Carne Asada Burrito, with guacamole inside, hits the spot for late-night fooding. It's hard to accuse it of lacking substance, shall we say. There is no inside seating. There are some tables outside that are reminiscent of cheap-ass McDonalds tables from years ago, but that's not the point. If you wanted to sit inside, you'd go to Del Taco on Newport/17th or on Bristol/73/Irvine or In-N-Out at UCI. If you want a big, satisfying burrito with meat and more meat, Alejandro's is the way to go. I am, however, worried that my opinion might change if I come back without having drank a bit..

    Here is the one and only way I've found to experience/enjoy Alejandro's: 1. Park in the lot 2. Tailgate there for a bit 3. Head over to Avalon 4. Have some sangria 5. Dance your heart out, sweat through your shirt 6. Have some more sangria 7. Dance some more 8. Stumble over to Alejandro's, no earlier than 12AM 9. Avoid making eye contact with most people there 10. Order food, it doesn't quite matter what, it will most likely be greasy and satisfying 11. Inhale food 12. Leave, quickly, before a fight breaks out 13. Wake up and regret having gone to Alejandro's ... 20. It's next Saturday -- let's do it all again!!

    First of all, be warned: Cash only. Now, Alejandro's is amazing. Whenever I am here I am a drunk, trashy, mess, chin dripping with taco grease. Dripping. I don't know what the food looks like in the day and I don't care. You'll feel like shit in the morning, but you were going to feel like shit anyway. Otherwise you'd be at Denny's.

    I will say that this food is better when you're drunk, but so are most things in life, so stay drunk.. I used to be a fan of the chips and cheese but then when I realized that my arteries probably weren't too stoked on this overdose of cheese and guacamole I decided to switch it up. Now i'm a big fan of the plain old bean/cheese/rice combo.. I'm also a fan of playing games with the cashiers at the drive through, they speak really fast and most of the time let go of the intercom button too soon so I like to talk back just as fast and sometimes only say partial sentences. It makes things more interesting. Anyways, as is said below, bring cash and some patience.. and Whiskey.. and you're all ready to hop on the ride of a lifetime to "greasy but amazing fast mexican food town"

    Previous reviews have stated that this place accepts credit cards. This is NOT true. It is CASH only. There is an ATM machine in front of Alejandro's and you will be charged a $1.95 fee if you need to get cash. There should be a cash only sign at the drive thru window Exclusively a drive thru place. There is a sit down area outside. Lewis and I went here and felt extremely cheated out of ordering. We ordered two chicken burritos with guacamole and sour cream and a fountain drink. Our order was roughly $9. The burritos went for about $2.50 or so each, and we're absolutely sure they charged us $1.50 for the sour cream and guacamole. They forget we ordered the drink and charged us again, so we technically paid a little over $10 for everything. Ridiculous. We start on our food in the car and find that the burritos are just wrapped around chunks of chicken in sauce, no rice, beans, just sauce, guacamole and sour cream. The salsa they gave us was as watery and weak as the taco sauce from Taco Bell or Del Taco and I wasn't impressed by their carelessness when they gave us the soda because they never wiped the cup after they filled it up with soda for us. Probably the worst drive thru or eatery I've been to. Sure the food was okay, but you would expect a lot more. I don't appreciate being tricked.

    Not bad, but not great. For a late night fix after going to a bar, we (my friends and I) decided to get some grub here, consisting of: -One Chicken Quesadilla -One Chicken Burrito -One order of Carne Asada Fries The good thing is that they didn't take too long to make it; in fact, it only took them a mere three minutes to have our order ready. Which may be in correlation to the quality of the food. The carne asada fries that I've heard about over and over again were not as great as made out to be IMO they were somewhat soggy like elementary school cafeteria food. The quesadilla was great though; it was made to my liking (soft tortilla, well-cooked chicken). Again, not bad, but not great. If you're dyin for Mexican Food this place is alright, but I've had better Mexican food elsewhere.

    Friend of mine texted me during the last lakers game, "I'm coming over should I bring tacos or beer?" as we'd just purchased a fresh costco box of coronas he brought us a bag of these delicious carnitas tacos and taquitos. Can't speak to what this place looks like, or anything else on their menu as I've never actually stepped foot inside but hands down some of the best carnitas tacos I've had in Costa Mesa.     A place I used to frequent alot in my college days especially the late night hours. The three roll tacos with guac are amazing and not on the menu the carne asada chips with guac are the best! The hot sauce they provide is icing on the cake. Be careful, after eating you may have major heart burn, and cholesterol especially your LDL will be high! Don't come here if you want a 6-pack either!

    I've had better. It satisfies my late night Mexican food cravings when nothing else is open (hooray for 24 hours!), but it's sub par Mexican food in my book. Good when you're drunk because food is food at that point, and decent Mexican food in the wee hours of the night beats Jack in the Box. But seriously, I've had better. I went here the other night because I remembered being fairly satisfied after trying this place out on a late night Fourth of July food run, but they royally screwed up my order and I didn't realize they charged me extra until I'd gotten home. I repeated my order twice and asked very specifically if they could give me carne asada fries, guac on the side, and do half fries half chips. I got one plate of fries with just meat and cheese, another plate with just chips and cheese, and they charged me for a side of guac. I repeated myself twice, but it was obvious they were not listening when we pulled up to the window and the guys were horsing around. I understand it's late, they're probably tired and are just trying to stay awake, but can you please get my order right? That's all I ask, especially when I've repeated myself enough times to make sure I understood my request. I didn't think I was asking for too much, but maybe I was. I don't think it was a language barrier either. These guys spoke English just fine. I don't think they were listening, and that deflated my hope when I got home, starving and opened up my incorrect order. I called the manager to let him know what happened. He was really nice and apologetic. He offered to give me the right order, but at 1am and a 10 minute drive away, it wasn't a big enough deal. I was glad he offered...kind of wish he could've made up for it in some way on my next visit instead. Just one annoying experience. I'm sure I'll still visit again though. Sucks they don't accept card though. Who wants to use an ATM machine/stop by a bank late at night?

Based on countless burritos, rolled tacos, rice, beans and Horchatas, here are my consensus recommendations for Alejandro's: DO NOT come here on a date (unless your theme is "Divey Mexican along 19th" in which case you really should be sitting down at Jugos Acapulcos DO NOT come here for veggie Mexican food (or chips n' salsa) DO NOT come here if you're worried about cops (they linger nearby) DO NOT drive thru, it's fast to walk up most of the time DO NOT get fancy with your ordering. Burritos and rolled tacos only. Seriously. DO come here at 2:00 a.m. after the bars close DO bring cash, pick up a free copy of "Auto Guia" and wait your turn DO come here to make massive UCI dorm burrito runs DO get a horchata, some of OC's best reconstituted rice goodness DO get a few extra cups of "to go" salsa DO premedicate with tums and wait 2 hours before lying horizontal after Alejandro's If you follow these simple guidelines, a simple, tasty, and fun experience will be all yours.

    Hole in the wall, drive-through Mexican food! I've never seen anything like it. It's pretty cheap and it's decent quality, so if you're ever looking for a quick fix, this is a good place to go. Just make sure you have some cash on hand (or make a quick visit to the nearby ATM). I got the carne asada meal, and I definitely expected them to skimp on the meat. But when I opened it up, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no shortage of steak. Cheap, greasy, and fast!

    Ugh, fourth consecutive night out partying. 1AM. It's time for fresh air and vampire food. It's a drunkard's crawling distance from Avalon (see my previous review) and Detroit. Unless you came from either place and it's now last call, eat here under no other circumstances. Literally 10 seconds after ordering and getting my change, the cashier whistles at me. He slaps a hot wrapped carne asada burrito in my right hand and a cup of iced bathroom sink water in the other. Holy shit. The service here is epic.

    Been going to Alejandro's for years. LOVE IT. cheap AND good! It's not a sit down place, although they do have a couple of tables outside. It can be a little sketchy looking at night so I'd be kinda cautious about eating there. You either drive thru or order at the walk up window... but it's totally worth it. also, it's CASH ONLY. they do have an ATM available though. I highly recommend the bean & cheese burrito (double wrapped), California burrito, rolled tacos, nachos, etc... everything is good. Plus, they have really awesome chicken burritos! It's marinated in some sort of red sauce, I think. Either way. Amazing. Plus, I'm pretty sure they're open 24hours. Can't beat it.

    Pretty good, haven't gotten food poisoning but i won't hold that against it. Probably the best unhealthy burrito around irvine that i know of. Orders messed up pretty often if you change something within a burrito. Other then that eating their burritos has the pleasant feel of forcing a massive log of tortilla, meat, and cheese so far into your head that your brain radiates pleasure throughout itself/you. This is especially helped if you are really hungry and pour hot sauce on everything. About the hot sauce it has become worse lately, hotter but not as good flavor which is not a beneficial trade off. Ultimately i prefer this place when i feel like carne asada fries OR i want to force someone to drive me really far so that i can burn up more minutes of my hateful little life and also perhaps waste their time? I have also noticed a sign for fish tacos and burritos i cannot state any strong opinion on that, although something about the environment does not scream out extremely fresh and well taken care off sea food. Which is good cause if it did it wouldn't scream out good fatty mexican food, which is a far more important and less shrill kind of scream, the kind of scream which the singer of a good punk band can let out to let you know just how much he dislikes establishmentarianism or whatever. So head towards The Scream and prepare to Munch that is a classy reference, thanks

    This is the best place to eat after a night of cocktails. They are open 24 hours and you can either drive through (not recommended) or just walk up and order. If you walk up to the window, there are tables on a little patio. Often, there are also homeless people, drunks, club rats and college kids here too. It makes for some interesting conversation. One guy pretended to be impressed that I know who Hannity and Colmes are. Really? I must not pay attention to political commentary because I'm a girl, right? That's all you got for me? Please let me go back to enjoying my two tacos covered in what looks like about two bags of shredded cheddar. I'm just sussed enough that I don't notice the occassional piece of cartilage. Mmmm.

    I like this place. It's like Alberto's brother. They have Carne Asada Fries and 24 hours. I am soooo there! The first time I went there I got the Carne Asada Fries.I put a tub of hot sauce, a whole tree of limes then I got down and dirty and I literally scarfed everything down.     Only 3 Stars (what, this place deserves more) I am shocked to see that Alejandro's has only three stars. It is what it is. Fast food 24 hours.... Conveniently located right near Detroit Bar and Avalon. It makes for a satisfying middle of the night had too much to drink need some food place. So, stars to them for being there 24 hours!! We came here after a show at Detroit one night and one thing for sure is that the portions are insanely large and the rice is tasty. I am surprised by all the bad reviews for this place. Perhaps we were just lucky and caught them on a good night....... Whatever It is dirt cheap and I was satisfied after my meal.. One thing that bugged me was that the gentleman that was taking the drive through orders was sort of a douche...But, then again it was 1230 AM an he was more than likely sick and tired of all the drunk assholes... Note: If you want authentic Mexican food then visit Rancho De Medoza in Downtown Santa Ana.... Which BTW has a full bar!!!

    Pretty solid... excellent horchata. I had the carnitas in a hard shell taco (I'm normally a more traditional soft shell fan), and they were very good. Definitely not a 5-star locale, but would disagree with any of these really low ratings. It's above average for your standard Southern California hole-in-the-wall Mexican place.

    I am going to give Alejandro's five stars for one dish only: the Number Four Breakfast Burrito. It is just a perfect burrito in my opinion. Big, densely packed with eggs, bacon, potatoes and cheese. Perfect for eating on your way to work unless you need to add hot sauce as you go. Their hot sauce is pretty good too. The bacon is very thick and salty. You really have to chew it! If you are on a diet don't come here every morning after dropping your kid at school, because unless this is the only thing you eat all day long, you are not going to lose any weight. Trust me, I know. (I now go once a week, max!). I'd love to be able to buy one of their very cool T-shirts with a drawing of Pancho Villa on it. I've asked but they don't seem to have any to sell.

    Since I live 5 minutes away, I make weekly runs to Alejandro's when I'm itching for that burrito at 3:00 am. They're the BEST! Once you try one of their burritos... you will crave them for weeks afterward. I'm vegan and was told by other vegans to try Alejandro's. For any vegetarians or vegans, I suggest getting the bean and rice burrito. It's big, it's good, and it's cheap. But be careful! Check to make sure they didn't accidentally layer in that cheese.... which happens sometimes.

I felt totally ripped off as we were sharing the food between 4 people. We ended up cooking ramen afterward and was very disappointed.     There are places that we go in life. Places that most people would shy away from. Places where you find the most glorious things in life, but you wouldn't know it from a glance. This is one of those places. The dual drive up, the busted garbled drivethru speakers, the monosyllabic answers to any questions you have, as well as the dangerously comedic "please pull forward" that some of the guys who work here use... The food itself is gloriously bad for you, yet so, so good. The tweakers that ride up on BMX bikes at 3 in the morning covet this as much a drug as their ill reputed indulgence. It's very much like a drug, horribly satisfying, despite horrendous side affects - sweatiness, flatulence, heartburn, glazed eyes, uncontrollable drooling. It's also very, very... addicting. It's like a universal truth, protected by those in flowing hooded robes with shiny medallions and wooden staves - You do not question why it is so good, it just merely is. The Carne Asda Fries, Nachos, the Burritos, the Rolled Tacos... Do not question what is in it, merely order it, pay for it, and leave, quickly, without causing any trouble.

    I love this place. I've been going here since i went to undergrad here in '96 and this place was previously called 'Albertos.' i drove such a shtty pick-up that my friends called it the alberto-mobile. it got my friends so fat that my car could barely move. even when i went to grad school in Sf, i still craved this place. if you want a comparison, it's like Coti's in SD. my favorite combo - the classic carne asada burrito with carne asada nachos and carne asada fries and a refreshing horchata. i always ask for carrots as well. it's like mexican kimchee; you must have it with everything. the only down side is something in the hot sauce or the beef juice - it can give you the runs...but still well worth it.

    My friend Grace had been talking about the carne asada fries here, so of course we had to go when I visited her this past weekend. I love Mexican food and a late night drive-thru is my kind of place. This place is perfect for late night burrito runs or for lunch. Grace and I both had the carne asada fries and I could not get enough. As big as they were I finished the whole darn thing. So good! I liked that they used real chedder cheese, not the queso stuff. Normally the queso can get kind of salty, especially with a combo like fries, but this was just right. It didn't make the fries soggy, so they were crunchy to the very last bite. This place is a hole in the wall, but I'm wiling to accept that, as long as the fries are good.

    Nothing else soothes my alcohol-filled tummy like a breakfast burrito. My personal favorite is with eggs, cheese, and potatoes (preferably french fries). Love it!! When I'm bar-hopping or clubbing in the area, my favorite place to go is Alejandro's. It's open late or 24 hours, I think. My man and all our friends love the carne asada burrito. It's humungous. The place is quick with the orders and it's cheap. Not sure how much exactly since I'm usually drunk when I'm here. It's cash only though. Around 2 am, the drive thru is pretty crowded since everyone's hitting up the place after the clubs get out.

    It's not 5 stars and probably shouldn't be 4, but where else can you get some grub at 3 in the morning which isn't a Denny's or as far away as Harbor House Cafe. I'm not sure what everyone else gets, but I do like their wide selection of combo meals although I always end up getting their #6 which consists of a beef burrito, enchilada, rice and beans all for $5.15. They also have a decent carne asada burrito as well as rolled tacos (aka taquitos). While some may say the food is mediocre while others say it is the ultimate college grub, what I know is that there is always someone there placing an order for food no matter what time of day it is.

    Man, Alehandro's is the place to close out a night of drinking; but you will pay for it. You can roll up with the change in your pocket and get a fat burrito.     I heard from several friends about this place, in which they ate here on drunken Friday nights. I decided to finally check the place out, sober. Apparently sobriety makes a big difference when judging this restaurant. When looking at the majority of high rated reviews here, people claim to eat here when drunk. And, after trying the carne asada taco (with the meat grey in color and the guacamole a darker tint than usual) and the beef taco (which looked and tasted like it was fried twice), being drunk is probably the only way you can eat here! Perhaps Sunday at noon was the wrong time to try it out. In any case, I had to throw away my food after a few bites, which is a rarity for me, because it was THAT bad.

    Fond memories from undergrad, as with everyone else, it seems. I'd never before had a burrito without all the rice and bean BS, so I enjoyed it. I was not there, but my friends stopped after one of them found a bandaid in his food. Another friend of mine found a fly in his jalapenos and carrots, but kept on eating anyway. If such stories scare you, don't bother coming here, and go somewhere like Javier's but if you like to eat questionable food at 4 AM, piss drunk with friends, along with bag men and other characters, yeah...check it out. I personally like that kind of thing, so I'm going to give it 3 stars despite dirtiness.

    This place sucks ass, the first few times I've been here I was totally smashed and it seemed pretty good, then when i came back sober i realized how much of a shit hole it really is. The beans are runny, the rice is mushy, the service sucks, its very americanized, and way way over priced for how bad it is. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, do yourself a favor and go down the street to Gloria's or El Torro Bravo they are like 200 feet south of placentia on 19th street.

    i miss alejandros so much, and drool at the thought of california burritos! theres something about their tortillas...as if they add a lil crack on it making u want more! im bummed i found out about this place right before i moved...i also wish i tried their carne asada fries. only downside was it took about 20 minutes to get there, but now that i think about it, it was worth every mile. the only crappy thing is their salsa, its pretty bland and flavorless, so its good when you got some tapito at home!

    Alejandro's is mediocre even if you're hungry as it's late at night as you're cramming for finals. I wouldn't go under any circumstance though, because although it's cheap and the portions are large, it's not healthy or even mildly appetizing. If you had to get food at 2am in OC and are insistent on mexican food... I recommend going to Alertos on Brookhurst instead. The last time I went, my taquitos seemed a bit cold, and a lot like the ones you can get at Costco..except not as good, because it was cold. My friend's carne asada fries weren't appetizing either.

    My first love of mexican food can be traced back to Alejandros. My faves are the california burrito (steak, fries, pico de gallo) and carne asada fries. One time a friend and I were eating at the tables outside. It was a hot day and we saw tubs of sour cream just melting away in one of the employee's car for an hour +. We never actually saw them put the sour cream inside, but could you expect anything less from Alejandros? Conclusion: The food is cheap, dirty, hits the spot, and the toilet afterwards. They're open 24 hours and have 2 drive thru windows. Their carne asada tastes like newspaper, but when you add fries it's almost heaven. Okay not really.

    It was about 12 at night and I wanted good - cheap food, where else would I go? I ordered a Carne Asada burrito and a pint of rice for only $3. Ok so maybe not the largest entree's and maybe the food is a little dry but you really can't go wrong for $3. Be aware there is no inside seating, the place is pretty much a drive through or walk up restaurant.

    Open 24 hours and that is about all this place is good for. After hearing friends talk about this place as THE place to go to after shows for years I decided to finally head out. If I were able to give this place 0 stars I'd do it. I had two burritos (both vegetarian) and neither was worth eating. One had guacamole in it and the guacamole tasted like nothing more than green salt. Should I be worried about the possible bodily fluids that were in that guacamole? I've never had guacamole that bad...in, I can't remember how long. 24 hours cool, but outside of that, I couldn't imagine ever going here. College students and punk kids sure have low standards. I guess that's not surprising, but honest to god, you have to set the bar somewhere. And I would say that bar is definitely lower than Alejandro's.

    the only reason I (and im sure 90% of you) come here is because of the avaiablilty around the clock, drunken munchies+carne asada burrito=bliss. The food quality isn;t that great, but the convenience is. However, i went yesterday (sober) with a friend and we ordered : 2 carne asada fburrito carne asada fries and a large coke We rolled up to the window and heard the guy say " carne asada fries and 2 CARNITAS burritos" my friend immediatley said "you mean CARNE ASADA , right?" and he looked at us with a scowl and replied. "yes" we immediatley knew something was up. Then after he rang us up and gave us the food he forgot the drink. So we asked him for it ( it was sitting on top of the drink fountain) then the guy had the nerve to ask for and extra $1.80 thinking we were to lazy to do the math to know he already charged us with the food. Anyways, so once we got the food we pulled over to the parking lot to check up on our precious burritos and turns out they were CARNITAS and not carne asada. so my friend goes back and the guys trying to defend himself saying we ordered carnitas and not carne asada. If we didnt double check initially at the window then yes, i can understand but we DOUBLE checked prior to getting the food. I think he was just lazy and come on. who actually checks their food when using the drive through? apparently we do. so, i guess you can call this my rant. *sigh* i miss san diego mexican food =\

    Among UCI students this place is legendary. So much so that stories about dogs and chainsaws going into the kitchen but not going out weren't enough to deter anyone from eating there. The popular items (during my time, anyway) were the carne asada burritos and rolled tacos. The burrito will burninate any hunger you might be experiencing before you eat it and will continue to do so for at least another meal cycle. The rolled tacos must be eaten quickly. They come with a generous serving of cheese and guacamole. The guacamole browns really, really quickly. I'm told that's a sign of freshness - or at least a lack preservatives. Don't start thinking the food is healthy for you, though. It's not. But's its a sinful indulgence.

    This place is fast and the food is pretty decent. Best bet: Machaca burrito. The hot sauce is wimpy. I read in the paper that a guy got attacked with a knife at 2:00 a.m. a while back, so be warned!
