I love going to the Brig for Happy Hour. Their fish tacos are unrivaled. Service is great, never had a problem. Dishes I've tried: Ahi Tartare Fish Taco Swordfish Taco Coctel Del Mar pei mussels clam chowder I just tried the Ahi Tartare and it was absolutely delicious! Diced chunks of "sushi-grade" Ahi mixed with fresh mango, cilantro, veggies, and served on a crispy flat wonton chip. Flavors galore! (this was the dish that changed my previous rating of 4 stars to 5!) This location is the best of the three that I've frequented. Service is good, no complaints there and the best part is the portions are generous. Food-wise, for this location, 5 stars. Everything so far has been excellent and beyond.

I love going to Coronado -- the little town is so quaint and beautiful and there are definitely some seriously good restaurants hidden on these streets. At Brigantine, I ordered the Calamari as an appetizer, It was delicious, although not as crispy as I generally like. They provided two sauces for dipping: a horseradish cocktail and a creamy jalapeno sauce. For an entree, I ate Macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi which was delicious. The fish was a little tough, but still delicious. It was served with a lemon butter sauce on top of garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. Delicious!

I had a great experience at the Brig. Great bread basket (yes, I do think that is an important component), great service, yummy food. We dropped by for lunch and weren't super hungry, so we just decided to share and ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the avocado lime butter swordfish entree. Our server brought out our swordfish entree already split for us onto two separate plates. How nice. They serve your swordfish with a block of the avocado lime butter sitting on top, rather than it being previously melted on. This gives you the divine pleasure of smothering it wherever your heart desires. And it is soooo bomb. Combined with the texture of the swordfish, it's actually quite mouthwatering. The rice pilaf and steamed veggies it came with complemented perfectly. The clam chowder was pretty good too. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely satisfying. The setting is cute too, located on one of Coronado's most central streets. We sat by the window and got a glimpse of all the Sunday passerby while eating all this goodness. The menu has rotating dishes so it looks like they're always trying new things and switching it up -- I'll be coming back to try more. Oh yeah -- street parking. But we found it relatively easy to nab a spot out front, and it's super cheap at only $0.25/hour at the meter.

The Brigantine, pretty much rocks when it comes to service and food. The one knock on the place is the first half of the restaurant is rather small and dark, the second half is much more open and bright. Other than that the place is legit nice. I used to work at this on back in the day so pretty much all the food is good. The clam chowder is one of if not the best i have tasted all over San Diego. The other knock which allows me to take a start away is the kind of snobbish attitude that comes from some of the locals and once in a while you'll get it from the staff. That's alright tho, i will still go back to that place.

Overall, a decent dinner. Could you spend your money better? It depends on what you're after! Here's the TL;DR review: FOOD: Good, not great. SERVICE: Good, attentive. PRICE: You can get better food for the same price elsewhere. ATMOSPHERE: It's very "high end" touristy nautical San Diego circa 1985. Details: I ate here with my parents on a Sunday night and we didn't wait long for a table. We immediately ordered the chips & cheese, featuring Miguel's popular white sauce; its reputation is well-deserved. For dinner, we ordered off the prix fixe menu. Their house salad is overdone: greens, cranberries, vinaigrette, you get the idea. I ordered swordfish for my main course, my parents the snapper and we were all really happy with the preparation of the fish. My swordfish laid atop a mound of lemon risotto that while tasty, clearly sat on the stove too long and the chef was a bit heavy handed with the cheese. My dessert was the toffee chocolate sour cream cake with ice cream, my parents the crème brûlée. My cake was a bit bland, but the toffee crunch layer was a nice surprise. I tried my mom's crème brûlée and it was tasty, but lacked that distinct crunchy layer that we all love to crack. They didn't torch the top long enough because the caramelized top layer was gossamer-thin. Overall the service was really attentive. Our drinks were kept refilled and our waitress was very friendly and answered all of my step-father's seemingly endless questions with nary a grimace. The atmosphere totally reminds me of what all the touristy shit in San Diego was like when I was a kid growing up there in the 80s. Dark paneled wood walls, late 70s/early 80s adult contemporary music piping in through a sound system, gold/brassy metal finishes, jaunty nautical details, you get the idea. I felt as if I could close my eyes, reopen them and be dressed in my Mary Lou Retton sweat suit complete with a bowl cut, my mom rushing me to finish eating so we don't miss Family Ties on TV. We are on a charge to explore Coronado gastronomically and thus far, I've had better in the area. It's not bad food, by any means, but I think that for the money (our bill was almost $100) you could do better. For a $27 dinner, I expect risotto that is taken off the stove a few minutes earlier, and a cake that tastes better. NOTE: The parking is horrendous in the area so if you're traveling with heeled companions, drop them off at the door while you look for parking. :)

You've got to be kidding. The service was ok, considering the wait staff can't see you in your little "cubical" even if they wanted to. The real problem is the food: mediocre at best. A restaurant that sells itself as specializing in seafood ought to know how to prepare it. The shrimp and scallop skewers with rice pilaf were bland and flavorless. I envision better at Red Lobster. My spouse found the highly praised swordfish tacos similarly unimpressive. Not worth the price.

We had to get up and leave. It was on a Sunday a few weeks ago. We went in for lunch and the dining room was closed so we went to the bar area to sit down and order food. A few minutes pass by no one comes to help us. We sit there waiting and waiting no one ever came to our table. The wait staff walk past us, the bartenders look our way a few times. It was uncomfortable and rude how were treated. I thought in my head I'm not giving these people my money and asked my husband if he wanted to leave. So we left and went and had a good time somewhere else.

Nice location on Coronado and real god prices for a resort area. Artichoke fritters were a nice surprise and the seafood selection was good. Would come here again, but was not blown away

Great fish tacos special at lunch and their hot sauce is really good.

5 stars simply for the observance and decadence of TACO TUESDAYS! Go Brig!! They have a secret menu like in n out... you can get your tacos grilled, blackened, and even with mando salsa. they also have swordfish tacos which are to DIE FOR! Hope you all enjoy as much as I do EVERY chance I get on a tuesday. You have to sit in the bar area to enjoy the specials, or on the outside patio.

My girlfriend and I recently had dinner here and the food was hit or miss. We ordered an appetizer of coconut shrimp which was overcooked and had no hint of coconut flavor. They were deep fried and spent too much time in the fryer. However the Ahi Tuna was delicious and fresh. I'm also surprised that his well established seafood place has no surf and turf. I ordered a ribeye but had to order another entree of lobster and linguine just to have some lobster with my steak. Similar places have surf and turf and offer a much less expensive menu. The service was good, and the ambiance was nice but I noticed that the older local Coronado crowd was a bit snooty. The best part was taking a stroll to the Hotel Del afterwards to see the Christmas lights and Victorian Christmas tree inside the lobby.

Great food, reasonable prices, great service. Make sure you try the fish tacos (fried of course), the brig house salad, New England clam chowder, and the ahi tartar. There are daily fresh catches, daily specials, and a great happy hour in the bar.

I ordered crab and lobster Cobb salad and swordfish tacos. Both turned out great choices. Nice environment and helpful staffs. Not to mention great wine list. Definitely I will go back.

I love the Happy Hour at the Brig... I get the fish tacos (You can get the fish grilled or blackened if you ask)

Cannot beat the scenery, old Coronado staple, keep it simple though, beer, fish n chips, etc. This will guarantee success

Try the shrimp and crab Louie salad with the avocado dressing. Yum! Fresh ingredients and generous portions of the good stuff: crab and shrimp. Excellent service from Christie. Pleasant, comfortable ambiance.

My hubby and I came here for our first dinner on our honeymoon on a recommendation from a coworker. The food was outstanding, the service was amazing (we had Heather who just happened to be from where we are from in Norcal) - all in all a wonderful experience. The crab cake is probably the best crab cake we have ever had in our lives (none of the fillers like some places do, just crab and a white mustard sauce). Delicious! I got the crab and lobster cobb for dinner (very good) and my hubby got the pork tenderloin with pork belly on top of an apple and goat cheese fritter. He doesn't like apples so I was happy to steal his fritter from him! They also brought us out creme brulee for dessert for our special occasion which was nice :) I am very happy my coworker recommended the Brigantine, what a fantastic experience!

My husband and I just returned from Coronado island. Great places to eat, and someone recommended The Brig. The service lacked a bit however the food was terrific. We ordered a bottle of Wild Horse and had seafood for lunch. $102. Somewhat speedy however after all it is San Diego area. I highly recommend this restaurant. Ask for Joshwa. (joswa). Great young waiter and knows how to step up to the plate on service.

Our waitress Lauren was very friendly and helpful, but the food was really bad. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you want a cold beer and a fish taco at the bar

Service was good. Food was kind of bland - crab cakes were underwhelming, seafood platter was ok. Probably wouldn't go back for dinner. The bar seemed decent though.

Located right next to Miguel's so methinks it's the same chefs (maybe) Our waitress was...eh. Sat outside for the happy hour menus but the tables were haphazard in that some were spacious and spread out while others were pushed against each other. Some were clean, some were evidently dirty. Some had menus and whatnot, others didn't. Our waitress seemed to be lost in her own world, not friendly, not present. Yet, she was bending over backwards in her attempt to be friendly to the other patrons. (was it cause we were ordering from the happy hour menu???) Eh. Had the half shell oysters. It was ok-good (my 1st time so can't really compare) Had the spinach salad - nothing worth bragging bout. It was freezing outside. No heat lamps. Inside was warm and cozy though. Great tourist spot.

My boyfriend and I stopped here after a long walk and it was wonderful! We had swordfish which came with rice and vegetables and then had a ahi tuna linguine! Both were excellent! The swordfish was so tender and juicy, I would recommend getting the catch of the day here! We also had some cocktails, I had a raspberry mojito and my boyfriend had a skinny piña colada and they were delicious and affordable!

This was a great meal at a fantastic price. We had 4 in our party including a child and the price was very reasonable. We had 4 entrees, 2 appetizers, a $80 bottle of wine, 3 Moscow Mules and 3 desserts and the price with tip was just over $300. My filet mignon was one of the best I've ever had and the seafood was incredible. Very pleased with the whole experience.

The place has carpet. The entree (wok seared ahi) was just ok - served with mushy rice & bland mushy vegetables. They offer potato salad as a side - and the prices are pretty high. Good location. The star of the meal was the grilled oyster dish! Very good and interesting. Moscow mule was excellent. Overall - disappointing.

I would not recommend this restaurant. My wife and I just got married over the weekend and wanted to spend a quiet Sunday on the island. Saw that this place had decent reviews and thought we'd give it a try. We ordered: - Sashimi appetizer: $14 for thinly sliced seared tuna which wasn't fresh and came with a terrible teriyaki sauce, ginger, wasabi, and 1 pair of chopsticks. It was very difficult getting a server's attention so we just ate it with a fork. - cioppino: very bland. The seafood again is not very fresh for being right on the beach. - Ribeye Steak 14oz: Wasn't bad but wasn't very good. The side of truffle fries was the best thing about this meal. The steak comes with a fat slab of some kind of herb butter on top which sounded appealing at first but I realized it was just too greasy and again the freshness of the meat was an issue for me. I ended up eating only half and taking the rest back to my hotel where I took a bite a few hours later and had to throw it away. I also ordered a scotch and water with no ice. A double in fact. The only thing they really doubled up was the ice. My wife doesn't drink but she decided she'd try a raspberry "cooler" that night. It was very sweet. We paid a little over $90 including tax and a very poor tip. It really should have been closer to $100 but we just couldn't allow ourselves to pay for the poor service. We also waited nearly 30 minutes to be seated and when we finally walked through the dining hall we noticed there were several tables that were open but our hostess walked us all the way to the very back corner of the restaurant which made flagging down a server difficult. This table has a speaker installed right above it and the server kept asking me to repeat what I was saying. I hate pulling out the race card, but it did make my wife and I wonder why the only non-white patrons at this restaurant were seated at possibly the worst table in the place after waiting half and hour even though there were several open tables. Our first dinner out as a married couple was not the kind of dining experience we'd like to ever repeat on any given day of the week.

Good food and good service! Fist few hours in S an Diego, and decided to stop off here with the Trolley Tour. Definitely worth it! Our waitress was a local who gave us great recommendations.

Wow! What a great dinner. Ken, Brian and Misty Bartended and are a wonderful team that took great care of all of the customers tonight. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for the extremely amazing prompt service, the ice cold chilled glasses of wonderful Stone IPA and great food. I ordered the seared scallops along with a bowl of clam chowder both of which were fresh snd rich with intricate flavors and very filling.

Love the location. We both had fresh fish. Kinda pricey, but then it's Coronado....

  • Marc L.

I believe this place to be over rated, when ordering I decided to ask my server what he recommended. He steered in the direction of the crab it ( the crab dip is heavy on the cream cheese and I found it mediocre at best) for dinner I had the bacon wrapped prawn which I had seen good reviews about, but was highly disappointed, the prawns were over cooked the crab stuffing was hardly present and the bacon overpowered everything. On a good note seared tuna was amazing and I couldn't get enough of it( my sister who ordered wasn't very happy I high jacked her dinner though. Also the lux bear that was recommended was awesome and so was the fish tacos I had earlier for lunch.

Definitely not the best for the area. Decent food for the price but if I were you I would move along and try somewhere else!

Enjoyed dinner on a Friday night at the Brigantine. No wait, and we were seated immediately. Dinner was good, and the service was good. Server and busboys were there before you needed them. Fish was fresh. Brig salad tasty. Sides were creative. Apple desert a little under cooked. Overall a good dining experience. One issue - they use wicker undersized chairs to supplement their shortage of chairs. These chairs are too small for most people. Hostesses should save these for last or they more appropriately should be returned to the patio. For the prices we expected comfortable seating.

Total disappointment! So excited to be Coronado Island, but should have skipped this place. Everything bland, no clams in the chowder, no oysters in the the oysters rock, everything else mediocre.

Went there on a Tuesday and it was packed. Taco Tuesday night. We passed on the tacos and went for full menu at the bar. Ahi tuna tatare was excellent, and along w an excellent bottle of wine. We opted for the bar and service was very good. Overall our experience here was much better than their sister property on Shelter Island.

Brigantine was a solid option for seafood on Coronado, as far as I'm concerned. Was it the best seafood I've ever had? No. Was it the best services I've ever had? No. But the food was fine, the night was quiet, and we ended up having a great time. I ordered the grilled marinated swordfish, and while I enjoyed it, I got the distinct feeling that the food had been cooked earlier in the evening, and then either heated up in a microwave, or under a heat lamp, before it was brought to the table. My husband's grilled sea bass was much more dry than he expected - again, could have been from a quick re-heat prior to bringing to our table, or could have just been from how they grill the fish. One highlight was the mud pie on their dessert menu - a giant slice of ice cream pie with chocolate and whipped cream. It was amazing. I really should have just ordered that instead of the fish. All in all, it was a solid option for a Monday night on the island. Next time, we'll try another seafood restaurant to see how they compare.

I have it say this was the WORST FOOD we had all week ! Food was over cooked and tasteless ! Gave this place 1 star because I had to ! Never again

We loved this place for happy hour. The very best swordfish tacos for only $3, and we had life changing Rockefeller mushrooms. They serve delicious beers on draft, and the bartender Chris was fabulous.

I have NEVER yelped, but have read a ton of reviews on yelp and typically use this to select what restaurants to visit when traveling. I had a last minute work trip to San Diego, Coronado Island and found myself at a loss of where to eat. I attended (not willingly) the social mixer at the Del Coronado hotel for an hour and then was ready to find some grub...BUT...it was Cinco de mayo, ugh. I was hungry, tired, and wanted a place to have good food in a semi uneventful environment.. and then I found the Brigantine! I walked in, it wa as semi full, but immediately found a place at the bar. The menu selection was GREAT. So good, that I couldn't decide. The server Misty, helped me pick out a signature dish...the Char-grille Ahi....OMG..Amazing!!! I have had lots of seared Ahi dished, but None with the spices of this AHI. I watched other customers have their dishes delivered and they ALL looked AMAZING! If you come to Coronado island...definitely visit the Brigantine!!!

This place is strictly for the rubes. The rich rubes, in fact. It's overpriced and has a funeral-home ambiance that's straight out of 1981 -- instead of opening the place up to the beautiful location, it's all closed in and dark, so it could be in Nebraska for all you know when you're inside. Personally, I'd rather look at Orange Ave, the Hotel Del, and the beach. The food would be passable for half the price, but at the prices they're charging, they may as well stamp "sucker" on your forehead.

  • Garrett M.

I was rather disappointed with the Brigantine, after a very enthusiastic recommendation from the folks at the resort we stayed at. Our appetizer was a freebie that we got due to a voucher from the resort and we had a choice between calamari (which we've never liked) or deep-fried artichokes; we chose the latter and found it to be an odd taste, so we didn't finish it. I ordered the lobster and got something that was 1) very, very small (the entire lobster body, cut in half, had 6 bites of meat) and 2) smelled and tasted like it wasn't very fresh. My wife and daughter each got the fish-n-ships and neither one tasted better than "meh"...seemed to be even subpar to the taste of those we get at a local Irish pub. I may have rated higher if not for the high prices of this place...for the amount we paid, I expect a lot more.

  • Carol K.

The food is only mediocre although not horrible. The ingredients seemed fresh enough. The service is dismal and very rude. The waitress we had Saturday evening was very rude. She nudged my chair (where i'm sitting on) around couple times while walking around and never gave one apology. I understand the restaurant is very crowded and tables are cramped together but this is unacceptable. She also forgot to serve bread (all other tables got it) and when I asked for it, gave a very terse statement of "YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THAT" and promptly walked away and never came back to the table (no bread either).

The food was good and the atmosphere unique. We received good service. I actually really liked the flavor of the crab Benedict. My daughters salmon was a little dry. Clam chowder had more potatoes the clam but for hubby that works. Over all good experience lunch prices little high but way better then dinner

We stopped there for lunch today. It was great! I got the crab cake sandwich with fries and seasonal veggies & Miguel's peach sangria. My husband got the seafood platter. We would definitely come back!

What a delightful restaurant! The place is well decorated, great lighting and just pleasure to be in. Melissa, hope you read this! We haven't encountered a nicer server for along time. You are well versed in the menu, the wine and very funny on top of that. I wouldn't want to eat here if you didn't wait on us. You made our evening unforgettable. Food: As much as the ambiance and the server get a 5+ I could not be as generous with the food....maybe just a 4 in the food factor. I will say, again Melissa made everything right as rain and we left happy campers. Do try this place, and ask for Melissa .

The honest truth is, I was hungry and didn't want to go far from work to have lunch. Many of you that either work in Coronado (or at least visit it) know that parking can be a pain...especially when it comes to those TICKET HAPPY PARKING METER-MAIDS that constantly roam around the area. That being said, the BRIGANTINE is a short walk from my work. I ate at the bar area, watched a little Golf on the tube and was in the mood for some Ahi Tuna. First off, I want to say that I love the atmosphere inside and I found the bartender very nice and helpful. She recommended I try out the AHI TARTARE. I found this dish really filling and delicious. I love the asian influence of this dish, with it's teriyaki sauce, Ahi, Avocados, Mangos on a Egg Roll Wrapper in the shape of a Tostada. This was a fun dish to eat...my only gripe: I wish they had 4 AHI TARTARES on the plate instead of 3 (cause this dish was so good, I wanted one more)

Super disappointing service. Waited 15 min just for water, we had to flag down the bus boy to help us get some service. A waitress came by to attend to us, she walked past us a few times and made eye contact but did not say a word. She took our complicated drink order for 2 waters with a "bitch face". After getting our waters we waited another 10 minutes for another girl to come up and tell us she was our server. Ok, where were you for like the last 30 minutes? We placed our order, a runner gave us our food, the waitress checked on us right after we got the food and never returned. We were done with our food and the bill took another 20 minutes. We contemplated leaving without paying because it was getting ridiculous. Do we have to try THAT hard to give you our money? This place sucked and we won't be coming back...

I came here for dinner with my family last weekend. I was very excited to eat here after hearing excellent reviews. Their cocktails were average. I took a sip of my cousins habanero margarita and there was no kick to it at all. The garlic cheese bread was very good. I wished we ordered another plate. I ordered the scallops Rockefeller, which was over cooked. But if you have a chance to try the blue cheese potato salad, make sure you do. It was very flavorful. My mom ordered the mahi. It was very spicy and I ended switching plates with my mom because she could not handle the heat. My brother-in-law said that his bacon steak burger was extremely bland and he ended up not even finishing it. Our server was Heather. I am unsure if it was because we were a party of 14 and the gratuity is already included, but that is no reason to neglect a table. We were even ASKED TO LEAVE by another server! My overall experience with the Brigantine was not the best. The food was hit or miss and over priced for it's inconstancy. The service was less then spectacular and at times point blank rude. I highly suggest going elsewhere for better service and a higher quality of food.

Went here on valentines day and was very impressed with the food and service. We mainly kept to the smaller dishes but even those were very well done and reasonably priced. The ahi tacos, coconut shrimp, crap cake and oysters were wonderful and on top of that the drinks were very well made too (best Moscow mule I've ever had). Will definitely be back to try out earlier in day to explore menu further.

My Mom visits here frequently, so when we came to visit her this place was a must. Ok, I'm a Chicago girl who loves a great steak and am always on a quest for a great hamburger. After trying the fish tacos, I've been in a quest to find anything comparable...San Diego isn't around the corner! Found the recipe online, close enough for now, can't wait to go back!

Good calamari which I always feel says a lot about a restaurant. Unfortunately the rest was just OK. The white clam linguine was average and the crab Louis again was reasonable but nothing special. The disappointment was the cioppino was OK but required lots of hot sauce to get it spiced up and I thought it was about 50% undersized as they serve it in a very shallow bowl which probably has about 3-4 oz of seafood in it and only 3 clams is way under for a cioppino-cooked OK though. It cost $16,50 and probably had less then $2 worth of ingredients in it. I should have known better than to order it but I keep hoping I can find one that I love as much as the one I cook at home and the only one I ever had in a restaurant that came close to mine was Anthony's Homeport in Everett WA. The waiter was OK except for his attempt to be very cool ie more of a TGI Friday or Hard Rock Cafe vibe if you know what I mean. But he wasn't cool when he blamed the cocktail waitress when I pointed out I didn't receive a beer refill order. Overall an OK experience but I'll try other restaurants in the area before I return here.

Yummy! We went here for lunch today and it was really tasty and super affordable. We started with the cheesy bread - super filling and delicious. I had the coconut shrimp - they were excellent. My husband had the burger and he said the goat cheese made it absolutely awesome. Great place! Highly recommend.

youre really just paying for the convenience and the view of the beautiful coronado..but dont get me wrong, that is totally worth it. I just didnt really like the service when business was extremely slow already.. DONT GET the mango beach blanket or whatever (its cranberry and grapefruit juice splashed with soda) $4. tastes terrible and bitter. waste of time. we had a dog with us and they were accommodating and allowed us to sit outside in the patio i ordered the battered tilapia $15 which was pretty yummy. 2 slices of tilapia and steam veggies. seemed like i could get it anywhere but nonetheless it was delicious. i dont recommend this place. but i do recommend the bike rentals (especially the double surrey ones)! $35/hour. worth every penny. :)

We followed a big party. The waiter was overwhelmed and little support. The food was below average. We would never go back!

The price is definitely a little bit on the high side, but their bar menu may be a little cheaper so take a look at that. It's definitely one of those places you may want to not just walk in with flip-flops and jeans (which we did...), but they dont discriminate. Their complementary bread was really good. Reminds me of Cheesecake factory bread but better, softer, nom-er. Had the - Lobster Fettuccine - a little bit bland but didnt taste bad. I'll pass since it cost $19 - Some kind of chicken salad - I could make that at home. - Creme Brulee: NOT BAD. A great dessert idea. Not too sweet so it doesnt override your system. I can see why it's so packed at night, but I dont think with a College budget I'll be coming back here.

Honestly one of the worst meals I have ever had in my entire life. I don't know how someone could mess up lobster so terribly. I ordered the lobster fettucini- It was tasteless, the pasta was completely overcooked, and the tomato sauce tasted like it was out of a bad can. I left huge chunks of lobster behind because it was just that bad. At one point I had to chase down a bite with water. I thought I was in for a good meal and was sadly mistaken. It was extremely hard forking over $25 for that meal. My boyfriend had the jumbo fried shrimp which were also tasteless. Would not recommend to anyone.

A short walk from the Hotel del, this restaurant provides a reasonably priced very good seafood meal. We had a family dinner there and everyone ordered a different item. Fish and chips were excellent, seafood cob salad great, and all other plates were excellent. My sister liked it so much she did carry-out dinner the next night. Our server was also professional and helpful. His suggestions were right on target. I'd hit this place again on my next visit to SD.

This seems like a great neighborhood place. The fish is well prepared and the service is excellent. I like the fact that they had a gluten free menu with a few good options. They even prepared an item gluten free that was not on their gf menu. The only draw back was that the veggies were not as nicely prepared as the seafood. They were a little tough with a strong fennel taste. However, it was a very good experience overall.

Good atmosphere. It can get a little crowded. I gave up my table for a family and sat at the bar. The host was so thankful, he gave us a free bowl of chips and jalepeno dip - which were amazing. I could have eaten the dip by the spoonful. Had the fish tacos, which were decent. Not bad for Coronado, but still expensive.

My husband & I celebrated New Years Eve at The Brigantine on Coronado. Sadly I got food poisoning from the Ciopinno. I was too sick to even bring in the New Year, still throwing up on New Year's Day! I am wondering if anyone else who ate there last night is ill?

One of the best meals that we have experienced. We have a couple picky eaters in our family and they had no problem finding something that appealed to them. The sand dab and wok seared ahi were exceptional. Mussels and clams were also very good.

Very busy & popular place. Waited about 45 mins to be seated. I suggest making reservation to avoid the wait. Ordered calamari, very good and for entree ordered new York strip steak, generous portions and mash potatoes were very good.

Went to Brigantine for dinner on my wife and I's 1st anniversary. It was nice, the bartender was cool and when I asked her to make my dirty martini a tad bit dirtier... she did so happily and even toped me off again. So my hat is off for the excelent bar service. I'd have to agree with the other reviewers that the food is missing that "WOW" factor. I think our fried calamari was from the bottom of the bag because there was lots of hard fried pieced of what looked to be just flour. The fondu was great. no worries there. All in all it was a nice experience but we may try something a bit more upscale next year.

In the area on vacation. Stopped in on our way to see the Hotel Del which is across the street. Nice find as we were there on Taco Tuesday, $1 off in bar and patio area. Both my wife and thought they were very good. Several tables of Navy folks (men and women).... Gave me a chance to say "thanks for your service" by picking up their tab.

After careful consideration, and several visits to the Brig I have decided that they are indeed worthy of 5 stars. The fish taco's are still the best, Cajun rock shrimp appetizer is spicy and delicious, and we conquered and enormous piece of mud pie. 5 Stars.

Oysters were not fresh and tasteless. And warm. Service was ok.

I'm giving this place 4 stars for the Tacos alone. I highly recommend the Calamari option. The Calamari was so tender and the sauce was delicious. You get a dollar off on Taco Tuesdays in the bar area! My Red Snapper was dry but not terrible. I felt that it was reasonably priced at $15 for Coronado. Service was pretty good. My Bloody Mary was average.

Right off the bat, I'll let you know that I give a star to any place that will promptly serve alcohol to me after the treacherous ride over the Coronado bridge. I need it faster than Dallas' Debbie drops her pants and if the place does me right, they'll get in my good graces. They have a great early bird deal (between 5-630pm Tuesday-Thursday, I think) three course meal for the price of whatever entree you select (ranging from $19-$30) which includes your choice of soup, salad or a listed app; the entree; and the choice of a miniature version of a dessert. Sweet. I didn't opt for this deal as I'm trying to cut back on the size of my thighs, but my Dad didn't have any complaints about it. I had blackened sea bass - and wow the spice was just right! I was expecting it to be more bland, it's the Brig in Coronado and the majority of their clientle is either tourist or old. I wasn't a fan of the lemon rice, but a piece of the stale bread (yeah, half was stale, half wasn't - not usually like that, but I think the weather caused an off night) was plenty of starch for me. The house chardonnay was decent, and a perfectly fine pairing with the fish. Overall, it's a nice stop in Coronado, is it the best place ever? No, but it's decent, the quality doesn't change much from visit to visit and they are very quick to make things right if something happens to be wrong. Plus, they're quick with the drinks. Bonus!

Made our semi annual trip to Coronado and what for? Fish Tacos of course! They don't get better than these no matter where you look. One taco is almost a meal. Be sure to ask for their hot sauce but use sparingly as it is hoooot. We love the calamari, it melts in your mouth. My brother thinks it is the best he has had anywhere in the states. Get the special margarita which comes in a flask and you are set. I have only had the happy hour specials and always sit on the patio to people watch. Not sure about their regular menu. This place was recommended to me by a wealthy local as her favorite place to dine.

Fish taco's... good... fried shrimp... not east coast for sure... try the Gordon's Fisherman instead... service; can't speak for table but the bar tender the night i was there was not attentive at all. Unless I was going there for Fish tacos I would not go back. it's very hard to believe the same group owns Miguel's mexican... completely different food quality.

[Food] He had: Crabcake sandwich - excellent! (On a whim, he also ordered a plate of onion rings. Literally, our party of six all exclaimed these as being the best onion rings we had ever had!!!) She (me) had: Swordfish tacos - AMAZING! Minus the sauce would have been perfection. The rest of the family each ordered dishes they raved about. The starter bread was fresh, soft, and sweet. [Service] Patient, helpful, prompt, and friendly. Brigantine is memorably delicious.

My boyfriend and I are both grad students with not a whole lotta money... We decided Happy Hour at the Brigantine would be a nice way to get out of the house and try a new place in a beautiful location for Valentine's Day. (Don't worry, we cooked filet mignon together for dinner... we're not THAT lame.) AMBIANCE: A neat combination of dark wood floors and furniture with bright sun and blue skies visible through the many windows. Unfortunately, since we were sitting at the bar, we didn't really get a glorious view. SERVICE: Pretty good - the bartender was really nice and gave us suggestions when we had trouble deciding what to order (the happy hour menu is pretty broad, and many things looked good!). There was one point when we wanted his attention for something and it took a while, but it happens. FOOD: Sliders were well-cooked and very yummy! The clam chowder was the BEST I have ever had. Will be going back just for more of that! Had some good wine and beer too, though I can't remember what exactly we had. I was really pleased with the variety of food and drink that appeared on their happy hour menu - quite a good deal! I enjoyed my experience here and will definitely go back at some point... but there are many other restaurants in San Diego that I want to explore as well!

I always compare fish tacos against rubios fish tacos. Their fish tacos were huge. Definitely worth it. Servers were attentive. Sat in the patio with heat warmers. No wait for lunch on a Sunday. Coconut shrimp was a large portion. Sauce a bit too strong.

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here. The food was amazing, particularly the scallop dishes. So tender and perfectly cooked. DELECTABLE and huge shrimp cocktail, with 8 large prawns. Wow. We were served by Sara, who was so attentive and even surprised us with a creme brulee to celebrate our special day. A MUST to visit while on the island.

  • R M.

Had the crab stuffed shrimp. Presentation was awesome. Taste was too salty. Perhaps one can ask them to tone down the salt? Service was great, quiet and attracted an older more mature crowd. Food was OK. Close to the Del and a handful of stores to peruse through after you eat.

Shelley, where ever you are, thank you for suggesting the Ahi tartar on those awesome little wonton things! And yes, a fourth wonton was needed and our waitress happily obliged my request. I used to steer clear of this place as I always heard that it was on the pricey side. And you know, expensive doesn't necessarily equate to good eats. But let me tell you, every cent spent at the Brigantine is well spent. On my second visit Sidekick Big Bite and I tried the Brig Oysters, what?!?!?! Perfectly baked oyster with some crab smothered in artery clogging jalapeño sauce. Fattening, hell yeah! But sooooo worth it. Big Bite and I shared the oysters as well as the calamari which could quite possibly be the best calamari ever. And of course the ahi tartar on the wonton. We sat at the bar for our second trip and the bartender wasn't bothered by the fact that neither one of us ordered booze. Great service, great food. Two very high thumbs up.

This restaurant has always been one of my favorite places in Coronado for a fish taco and a shake-it-yourself-margarita. However, I was semi-disapointed by my experience this evening. Me and my roommate sat at the bar for their "Taco-Tuesday." Their soup of the day was chicken tortilla, sounded delicious so we both got a cup. The soup arrived before and without spoons, one of my pet peves. The soup was pretty bland and thin, cant really hold it against them since it isnt a regular menu item. The taco was delicious as always, even though it didnt come out how I had ordered it. My advice... stick with their chowder. It is always top-notch!

What I liked most about the Brigantine were the half priced appetizers during Happy Hour on Fridays. Man did I pig out! I Love their clam chowder, it is excellent and the oysters Rockefeller... Rock! The shrimp scampi is different and it is a nice change of pace. Crab cakes were always a good choice, although you can not pass up the artichoke fritters. When it is not Happy Hour have the fish and chips, the crab and shrimp louie salad or the lobster, crab and avocado salad. Hubby loved their roast beef sandwich on a french baguette with horseradish sauce and house made potato chips! Service is friendly, atmosphere is terrific and the food brings you back. It was one of our favorite places to go and when I return to Coronado I always revisit them!. Wheelchair accessible, sidewalk to entrance one level no step.

just kind of ok. Extremely hit and miss. one of my fillets of sandabs had skin still on.....the other two didn't so this was inadvertent. The clam and mussel appetizer was pretty good. The fried clams were sub par. The soft shell crab was ok, but bland.

I have been here twice and both times my meals have been wonderful. My first visit I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and a caesar salad. The bowl was HUGE and so filling. It was difficult for me to eat my salad. Next time I will only get a cup! :) My second visit I ordered a chicken, mushroom pasta dish. It was very good. I look forward to bringing my husband and trying the crab sandwich.

I had a great Valentine's Day lunch experience! They opened at 11:30, opened doors at 11:21. Made a reservation ahead of time and as soon as they opened up and mentioned I had a rez, we were seated in a cozy booth! It's darkly lit, but I think next time I would have opted to sit next to the window (people watching!!) especially since it was during the lunch hour. They had a couple fish dish specials for V-day. The server (Jenny) was great! Served with a smile, was given suggestions, and was very attentive. We ordered a Blue Moon (the big one was 5.25), an iced tea, and an appetizer of calamari and clam chowder. The calamari was huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugely portioned. It came with a cocktail sauce and I have no idea what the other sauce was but it was almost like a jalapeno mayo. It had a little too much breading on it for my taste, but we were starving! Comes with a lemon, but if you must order this, ask for more than 1 lemon. Ate half and took the rest home. Don't think I would order again since it had too much breading (you are also given the option if you would like just the body or just the tentacles or both, but to me the tents are the best part!) For the entree, boyfriend got an avocado-lime butter on mahimahi with french fries and rice pilaf. He's not a picky person so he ate everything! I tasted the butter on it and wasn't really impressed. The fish wasn't dry, the butter was just okay. I ordered the Pumpkin Crusted Salmon with Lemon Butter (your choice of Lemon Butter or Soy Wasabi) with veggies and rice pilaf. I absolutely loved my dish. It had a "senior special" feel to it but that's just what I like I guess, hah! I love that they had long green beans and those fancy carrots with the stems and the fact that they weren't OVERLY cooked. It's like they lightly grilled them so they were still crunchy! It really was refreshing to have that. My only thing is that I couldn't taste the Pumpkin! All it added was texture to the fish. Oh yeah! It also came with Mango Salsa which I thought blended really well with the dish. You would think that there were too many aspects to this dish but everything really balanced out! Oh I forgot about the clam chowder! Boyfriend and I were so hungry! A cup of clam chowder is 4.50 or you can get a bowl for $6, I wanted my own cup and I swear it filled me up! We ate it so quick. It comes with oyster crackers, and they were nice and crisp.. I hate when you get crackers for your soup and they're stale! This wasn't the case. I believe they add bacon to their clam chowder which I don't like because clam chowder is already heavy but not too much was added. I also hate when they "milk down" the clam chowder. This was not the case, it was creaaaaammyyyyy. I would love to visit again! They have their own parking lot, which we didn't know about until after walking out of the restaurant, but parking on the street wasn't so bad. You get more time from the meters here than you would downtown! I think a quarter was an hour! It's very nice because it's across the street from Hotel Del Coronado so you can just walk and there are a lot of shops, places you can rent bicycles, walk along the beach, hit up MooTime Creamery, just lots to see and do! OH, and the other thing I wanted to add is that their menu has a cute "Mocktails" section. Not a drinker, and didn't have a chance to order from this section, but next time!

It's a decent place. The menu is huge, so there is something for everyone. If you are expecting a fantastic meal, you won't be happy. If you are expecting good service, okay food and a fun atmosphere, you will leave very happy.

From a gluten free perspective, this place is great. They have a gluten free menu you can request. There are actually choices on it! Some places only have a few choices, so I was happy to see many options! I felt confident that they would prepare my food carefully. It is pricey, but it was really delicious. I had the Shrimp and Scallops skewers with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. It was great! I tried to save room for Creme Brulee but I was too full. My husband got the halibut and loved it, too. Our drinks were tasty. I recommend the Hendrick Gin Rickey! Great for a special night out. It was causal and laid back, which I love. I don't like making a whole production out of dinner. Server was busy, but very nice and attentive. I'll be back for happy hour for sure!

  • Carey L.

I had lunch here and my wife received food poisoning from the crab and lobster cobb salad. It could only be the salad b/c that's the only thing she ate the entire day. Now, she's half passed out on the toilet. If you're going to serve seafood, please make sure it's fresh. When people get sick from your restaurant, it makes it challenging to give 5 stars.

  • Randall C.

I like the Brig. My brother has a place on Coronado, so we always come here. The mahi mahi and halibut are always good (as the items on the right side of the menu), and I always get the hefeweizen or a glass of chard, or maybe a syrah. They are always pushing some particular winery so ask to see the wine list instead. The only down side is the calamari (not my style at all - not crispy enough) and the place is always bloody crowded (but it's in a tourist trap so what can you expect?)

    (4)
  • Elena K.

My go to local Taco Tuesday spot. It can get crowded, so sharpen your elbows to grab a table. Downsides are fussy tourists and sometimes an older crowd, which can result in slow service. Upsides are some of the best fish tacos in SD (which is saying something).

  • LaVonne G.

My boyfriend and I stopped here after visiting the beach and being told this is a good local spot. We were there Saturday so there wasn't happy hour(darn) and we were there in the afternoon so it wasn't the full menu. First we ordered an appetizer an fried artichoke dish that comes with some lemon mayo type dipping sauce, the best! I will go back just fot that. Well he go the brig burger wit cheese and bacon and fries and for $10. I got the Cajun chicken sandwich with fries and blue cheese potato salad for $12! We were so full and very pleases with the service we received. Will stop by here again next time in town

Have I not reviewed this place? Always a fun place to people watch, Brigantine is perfectly situated for a nice cold drink, seafood, and observation. I've been here several times and it's always yummy. It's not the healthiest of fares, but you'll go away full and sated. It's a go-to place for me when I'm in Coronado.

  • Nadia C.

Brig Fish Tacos is all you need. Seriously, they are amazing. The sides just get in the way, all you need are those tacos. Fried crispy deliciousness on a a bed of red cabbage and a perfect tortilla. We ate in the bar, since it was just a quick lunch and had to get seated as quick as possible (meter was running out). The bar is comfortable and the service was quick and polite. Every time I visit Coronado, Brig Fish Tacos are a must. I suggest you do the same.

Never got in. Left our name and number for a call in 30-45 minutes and didn't hear back. Watched a couple with two well behaved children attempt to get seated only to be greeted by a couple of young princess wannabe hostesses casting disapproving looks. Not a great first impression, but the kind that will prevent me from attempting to get a second. Can't tell you about the food, just the lousy front staff.

    (1)
  • Bryan W.

This place is over-hyped. My food wasn't bad and the decor was too reminiscent of a "three hour cruise." Our server was friendly but his knowledge of the menu was limited to what the menu said and nothing more. The meal got off to a bad start when our drinks arrived at the table and had not been stirred. The place was packed which I can't figure out but it won't be by me in the future.

    (3)
  • Thomas B.

Food was good, service was terrible. Started out by getting sat and waiting 10 minutes to get greeted by our server. Then waited longer to order. Got appetizers ordered another round of drinks, only half of which arrived. After being there over an hour our food got there. When we asked where our food was, because it had been a while, the manager couldn't even offer an apology just smiled and said "well it is a Monday" in the mean time my son fell asleep in the booth and two tables around us who had gotten there after us ate and left. We were only a party of 4.

Best seafood we could find in the Coronado/San Diego area! I HIGHLY recommend the calamari appetizer! Best calamari I've ever had@

  • Janelle T.

We had a bad experience at lunch here from the very beginning. Our hostess did not seat us and instead pointed that we should walk through the bar and sit ourselves at any of the tables outside. We were very insulted because a few minutes later, before we even received menus, she seated another couple next to us outside, handed them menus, and nicely told them their waitress would be over shortly. When we ordered and our food arrived, I was again disappointed and felt deceived: the "clams" in my fried seafood sampler meal were the nasty frozen-in-a-bag clam strips, and the 1 scallop still had its foot attached. When we went to pay for our $18pp lunches, we told the waitress that our hotel in-room information book said to show our room key for 20% off. She basically laughed at us and said they don't give a discount to anyone. Stay away from this place.

My husband cannot get enough of their fish tacos & I'm a huge fan of their clam chowder! Have been to the Coronado location but a bigger fan of the Del Mar location. Both have great atmosphere, but we love sitting outside at the Del Mar location, great view!!

Underwhelmed. I expected something a lot tastier based on the reviews, but I'm sad to report that this restaurant seems to rely on its location to stay alive rather than the quality of its food.

A late dinner recommended by the hotel del coronado concierge. This place targets rich tourist, and I am not one. I didn't get a really good vibe from the waiter. We came here around 8:30-9 and were promptly seated. They were out of scallops and a few items from their "early" menu, including the desserts from the 3-course selection. And the thing is they didn't even comp. us! Anyways, the food is okay here. The bread is nice and warm however, I was highly disappointed with the calamari. It's not even calamari! Its cuttlefish! It was rubbery and flavorless. It's nice they added horseradish to the cocktail sauce and the butter sauce is a little interesting. I had the tenderloin cream pasta. It's a little too creamy to my liking. The pasta was good and the tenderloin was flavorful, but the overall dish was bland, and the creaminess got to me, that I was just eating this dish and not really enjoying it after a few bites. The kid's mac&cheese looked like it was cooked from a Kraft box. I tried the lobster pasta, that was really good with nice chunks of lobster. Overall, this place is a-okay.

  • Norman K.

Awful. I think our mistake was getting two of the more expensive items on the menu. Better to stick to simpler dishes. I got a piece of fish with potatoes and asparagus. The fish had a very strange consistency (maybe it had been refrozen) the potatoes tasted like they were from a box and the asparagus was tough and undercooked. Yuck. Even the bread was lousy Wait staff was friendly--I think they knew the food was bad.

There are NO aspirations toward excellence here. The place relies totally on its sterile, touristy location in "downtown" Coronado. Prices are way overblown and the food is ordinary at best.

My family and I had just been exploring Coronado, and we were hungry. We happened to stumble upon Brigantine when looking for a restaurant among all of the cute little shops and such. We were seated almost immediately after entering the restaurant. My family and I literally stuffed ourselves on appetizers, but not in the bad way. We had ordered a substantial amount of appetizers and just kept ordering more and more, because all of them were wonderful. The bread was to die for, the crab dip and toasted bread slices made an amazing pair, we just could not stop eating it! One person in our family ordered a crab cake and I tried it. It was delicious! The service was nice, nothing to complain about. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've been to!

Okay who dropped the ball on this one. Again part of the 8/8/11 Grub Sprawl. They were serving a $5.00 plate of 3 mini ahi poke taco's served in a wonton shell. It was very tasteless and greasy. They only get a one star on the five star rating. I also looked at the menu and there average price is $25-30 a meal. Not sure if I will go back there to eat.

We ate here last weekend for our anniversary. The food was very tasty and perfectly prepared. We had 7pm reservations and didn't even wait a second. The booths are rather close together so don't expect to have a private romantic conversation without including the tables around you in the conversation lol. I was a little disappointing that the wait staff didn't offer any side dish option like it mentioned on the menu but the side they gave were what I would have chosen and tasted great. They even gave a us a card for our anniversary too. I'll be back for sure.

This is a fantastic place to go for Happy Hour!!!! The fish tacos are seriously the BEST EVER!!!!! I crave the Brigs hot sauce.....all the happy hour food is scrumdidly-um-cious. I have had dinner here as well and the fish is always very flaky and tasty....but I highly recommend hitting up the Brig for HH with some friends, you will not be disappointed :) enjoy!

We sat outside under the heated lamps which was lovely. The service was nice. The food: gross. I ordered a salad, which was fine, but the "chicken wings" I ordered were unpalatable. They were legs, not wings, and they were not fried, but kind of wet and mushy. They were coated in a seriously nasty-sweet barbeque sauce. I was hungry so i tried to find pieces of chicken without any of the dreadful sauce on them, but it was a losing battle. My fiance ordered an asian style salmon, which was greasy and edible, but did not seem like anything anyone would purposely choose to eat. Bland. I would avoid this place.

Great seafood, even better drinks! Started the night off right with a Raspberry Mojito, freaking delicious. The Crab and Shrimp Fondue appetizer was great, very cheesy. I was literally using my finger to get every last shred of cheesy goodness out of the bowl. I stole a few bites of my sisters Cesar salad and it was really good, especially the croutons. I had the Halibut (for the halibut) and it was great. It came served with some creamy, garlic sauce which was killer. Others got the sea bass (good), macadamia ahi (better), and ribs (I had to tease her for that one, this is a seafood place, but they were still really good). They got the brownie sundae for dessert and said it was delicious but I had to save myself for Mootime. A little pricey but well worth it. Hint: get a reservation, this place can have a long wait with all of the tourists.

Let's get this established first: ratings are relative to expectations, surroundings, and other factors, they are not absolute. This is not a haute cuisine restaurant, but it exceeded our expectations. We had very good fish, not overcooked, better-than-average service, and (for the area) reasonable prices. The Ahi Tempura was appropriately rare, the Mahi-Mahi was moist and delicious, and even the crabcake, while not to the standards of Maryland's eastern shore, was perfectly acceptable. With a reservation (on OpenTable) we were seated instantly, and our waitress was attentive and polite. You wouldn't go here looking for a gourmet meal, but for a family dinner on spring break, we were pleased, and that rates four stars here in my book.

I stopped by here on a search for fish tacos, at the recommendation of the hotel concierge. Apparently they weren't prepared for the Labor Day weekend because there weren't enough waiters to cover all the tables and not enough cooks to prepare the food fast enough. On top of this, the waiter we had just started earlier in the week. The GF and I both ordered the fish tacos, but were both underwhelmed by it - partially because of the fact that it was deep-fried, not grilled. Also because by the time the food finally did arrive it wasn't very warm. Our waiter tried his best, but also neglected to bring us the bread we requested, until we reminded him the 3rd time. On the plus side, the margarita was good.

Taco Tuesday. Very good tacos. Why no Carnitas though? Service was excellent. All staff was highlyattentive, without being in your face, I appreciate that. I absolutely will dine here again.

I love the Brig! It doesnt get any better than happy hour on the patio. Their nachos are UNBELIEVABLE. Kettle cooked chips, bleu cheese, etc... soooo good! I tried to make my own, not a success. Better leave it to the professionals.

The food is OK. The bar is very nice. The happy hours are great. We love taco night on Tuesdays. The bar is packed for taco night and the service is good. The grilled fish taco is actually very good. The staff here is very kind, even to children sitting in the bar for taco night. Great place to meet a large group for drinks or dinner.

Went here for dinner one night because we hadn't yet had a seafood night during our Coronado stay, and we left unsatisfied. Hubby ordered the swordfish steak, and as stated it was a giant slab of swordfish. I thought it tasted good but I definitely couldn't have eaten that much (it tasted almost like a real steak); he didn't like it. I ordered the appetizer crab cake for my meal and the cake was good, but the salad it was on definitely looked to be store-bought and out of a bag. I mean, at least try to hide it. We ordered cocktails and thought they were both weak and not worth the price. The best thing we had was a chips-and-dip appetizer, it had a cream sauce that tasted like a Mexican cheese sauce. it was very good initially but the taste wore out quickly and tasted flour-y as it cooled. Our service was lacking, and we were on a table lining a hallway so there were people CONSTANTLY walking by us. Based on this experience, we would not go back to Brigantine.

My friends and I were hungry and wanted some seafood, any kind when we were visiting Coronado... Honestly this joint is overpriced, and the food wasn't that great. I ordered a fish of the day sandwich - which happened to be swordfish - and it was grilled without seasoning? Bland, and lacking some sort of sauce on the sandwich.. tartar? ranch? lemon juice? I was disappointed. Maybe my experience would have been different if I had ordered the fish tacos, although I would have it breaded not grilled. The environment was nice, we sat outside on the patio, other than that I expected better food.

Great seafood and service! I consider myself a regular at this Brigantine because I always have a good experience. My favorite menu item is the crab and shrimp fondue appetizer. I really like the swordfish too and the mahi is pretty yummy.

I'm wishing for half stars on this review, so I could give this place a 3.5 (I went up rather than down because I'm feeling friendly today.). I'll go back, but it better impress me more than our first visit, which I would categorize as "not bad", but "forgettable". It took my husband & I two years living right up the street to bring ourselves to eat here. Why so long??? Because we hate chains... even baby ones. (For those who aren't aware, this restaurant is part of a local San Diego chain of 14 restaurants including multiple Brigantines, Miguels, and Zocalos, plus Azul in La Jolla.) Miguels in Coronado survives only because of it's great patio setting and the hordes of tourists who won't venture out more than a block from the Hotel Del. The Brigantine in La Mesa survives because you can count on one hand the good restaurants in town. But, we felt open minded last Friday and decided to give it a shot. Both of us really liked the setting...lots of beautiful wood and intimate booths allowing for lots of uninterrupted conversation. I have a very scientific culinary theory that I'm looking to prove...it's all about the bread. If it's average, your meal will be too...if it's unique and outstanding, get ready for an outstanding meal. My theory held here! Of the two breads we were given, one was mediocre and one was pretty good...a perfect parallel to our meal. Our appetizer (Artichoke Fritters) was great. The soup de jour (Manhattan Clam Chowder) was not very clam-ish and lacked personality. I went out of my box and ordered Sand Dabs and my husband ordered what I should have...the Seared Ahi. He is such a great husband...after 18 years, he is quick to notice my subtle facial expressions and stony silence after taking my first bite. He reached over and switched our dishes saving me from some serious Ahi envy. The Dabs were just a bit too fishy and bland for me. The Ahi was good and I was grateful to have it, but it didn't send me anywhere. No complaints about the friendly service. We plan to go back and give it another chance. I am a bit curious about those oysters...

Walking around Coronado, enjoying the beach and fresh ocean air we came across this seafood restaurant for lunch. The decor is more of a classic seafood restaurant with lots of wood trim decor and a nautical theme. We heard that the "Brig" fish tacos are very good here. They are not. If you like flavorless fried single non-bite sized fish in a taco then this is your place. This seemingly "west coast" style of fried fish tacos is definitely not my style. I also had the white sea bass blackened and was similarly disappointed. It was overcooked with not much blackened flavor. The soy-wasabi butter did help but was too salty. The lemon butter sauce is forgettable. The rice pilaf was bland but the veggies were good. Being next to the ocean does not equal good seafood. There are plenty of seafood chains in Boston and many are better. Pass on this one.

Located across from the Hotel Del Coronado, the Brigantine (or the "Brig" for short) is a "surf n' turf" restaurant owned by the same company that owns the outstanding Miguel's Mexican Cocina next door. Other reviews have done an excellent job of explaining the restaurant in general...I'd like to comment on its amazing happy hour. Happy hour at the Brig is the best on Coronado. From 3-6 you can get the Brig's great, but expensive food at bargain prices. For drinks, the Brig Margarita is a must have. I think its like $9 the rest of the day. During happy hour its $5.50. A generous amount of Cuervo Tequila, Cointreau, and fresh juices...indeed enough for about two and a half drinks served in a shaker with a salt rimmed glass. This alone is enough of a reason to come to the Brig for happy hour. Then there's the food. The fish taco for $2.50 is large and awesome as a bar snack...two of them are a meal. I also had a large bowl of clam chowder for $3 which I also recommend. In addition, the menu boasts chicken and steak tacos, shrimp cocktails, fried clams and calamari and a host of other things that I have not yet tried. Everything is served with warm bread and butter. During the summer, you have to sit outside to enjoy the late afternoon sun on their flower lined patio. Its great for people watching in the bustling heart of touristy Coronado.

My mom and I were here on vacation just a couple days ago, and ate here because of reviews. The ambience here is nice, as is the service. Our busser was especially excellent at filling our waters almost constantly. We also had Spinach Brig salads to start with, which were absolutely perfect. I also tried two oysters, and my mom had a shrimp cocktail, which were great. Our main meal was kind of a disappointment, however. The blackened sea bass was blackened with more of a chili powder seasoning versus cajun seasoning, and just wasn't very good. Likewise, my macademia nut-crusted mahi mahi was just ok. I didn't even finish it all, which is just not like me. It was just bland, that's all. Overall, I wouldn't go back, not because it was terrible, but because i wasn't really impressed.

after strolling up and down the beach and the village in coronado, hunger strikes and michigan doc decided having a somewhat early dinner at brigantine. we walked in and got seated within a few minutes. good hang out at the bar with a little separation to the dining room. dark wood, dim lights, perfect ambience. then our tummies remind us we need to eat. stat! we started off with fresh blue point oysters as suggested by michigan doc! soo freshly shucked and the cocktail sauce was a perfect compliment! i usually add tabasco but this time i didn't need it.. well, ok, just a dash, can't resist.. desert teach wants some clam chowder to warm up a little. got to try that too and it was ok. it was a bit soupy, not like the usual thick consistency of chowders i've had. so our meals came soon right after and it was puh-len-ti-ful! desert teach got the seafood combo of fried scallops, shrimp, fish with a side of salad. michigan doc got ny steak and fries while i got the wok charred ahi with rice and wonton strips! we shared our food and we still couldn't finish our meals! mine alone had a good amount of ahi and it was simply sumptuous! to quench down our thirst, desert teach ordered the non-alcoholic mangarita and michigan doc ordered the brigantine margarita! as for me, the dd of this trip, i was content with my iced tea.. and occasionally sip on the other margaritas.. to taste.. dude coz they know i'm a yelper! haha.. we were soo full we didn't have room for dessert! as far as service goes for this place, they did an excellent job. drinks were filled each time and the food came in a timely manner. our server checked in but not too much to be bothersome. my friends and i have a lot to catch up since we haven't seen each other in a long time and we didn't feel rushed or pressured to leave and they were getting busier too. you can tell everyone from the host to the bartenders to the servers were very welcoming and were well trained with customer service.

Very satisfied with our dinner. I made a reservation here for my boyfriend's birthday, and they surprised us with a complimentary mud pie. I always hesitate to order seafood pasta, because the seafood is usually skimpy. Not here; there was tons of fish and shrimp and shellfish in my fettucine, which I believe was homemade, big soft noodles. My date's food and even the bread basket were delicious too. The waiter recommended a great wine, and the atmosphere inside is dark and cozy. We got a bunch of oysters on the half-shell. Of the two kinds, one was phenomenal (the Blue Point I think) and the other was mediocre.

First time at the Brig in Coronado. Loved the ambiance more than the other Brigs....Food was really delish and good sized portions of fish. Both my husband and I had Ono. First time ordering it and really enjoyed it. Service was rather on the spot as well. Would definitely go back. Love Coronado.....

My husband and I have eaten at Brigantine several times, and only once did we have any thing less than a five star experience. The waitstaff is courteous, and the food is amazing. We have asked to have our seat changed once, to be closer to the window, and were promptly moved. Another time I witnessed a couple ask to be moved outside, to enjoy the weather, and they, too, were moved without even a second of hesitation. Food is amazing. I was a bit nervous the first time we ate here, as I am a vegetarian, and don't eat any meat, seafood or otherwise. I really enjoyed the house salad, and have had no issue ordering a combination of sides as my meal if that's what I so choose. My husband has done nothing but rave about the seafood, and when my mom came in from out of town she agreed. The one time I was a little let down, I ordered a side of potatoes.. The way the menu was worded, I thought it would be cubes of potato, like home fries, but what came out were actually french fries. They were very good, but I did feel a little let down, since it wasn't what I was expecting. If you're going on a Friday or Saturday, definitely reserve ahead online, or by calling. To the reviewer who complained about "sitting next to a walrus" at the bar. Did you really expect management to remove someone who was eating at the bar? Put them where? If you didn't want to wait for, or eat at, a table or booth, you should recognize that the bar is open for people to come and go, sit and drink, and eat as they please. If this gentleman was bothering you, why didn't you complain? As for the food complaints you had, you must have been there on a very off night, and I am sorry you didn't at least enjoy the food. I love it there. I'll be returning time and time again.

I liked the architexture of the building; however dinner was not that impressive. It was saved by the amazing appetizers of oysters with cheese/spinach and bacon, which can anyone make something taste bad if bacon is in the recipe? hahaha. Anyways, I am not planning on returning to this restaurant again as the costs were not worth the quality.

I'm going to admit up front that what I'm about to say does not make a lot of sense. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the food. We had rib-eyes for dinner and they were chewy and not very flavorful. I would agree with the last review -- the calamari was amazing. Even though I did not care for the meal -- I loved the place. The dining experience when you get a private booth was tremendous. The wait staff was exceptional. After dinner we spent some time in their bar and had a nice time. It's a nice bar with a couple of plasma TV's, a wide drink selection, and very reasonable prices. We were there during the week and it was lively enough to be entertaining, but not overly crowded so that you could not relax. I would recommend going to the bar and ordering up a bunch of appetizers and drinks and having a good time. While I enjoyed the dining experience in the booths, the quality of the food was poor and I would not indulge again in that aspect.

Ok, I'll keep this short, sweet and simple. The Brig is an awesome little (expensive) joint that has amazing good food that is worth every penny. Go here and definitely not regret your stay. The best part is a decent happy hour, not cheap, but decent. Recommendation: GRILLED SWORD FISH TACOS! asked to be "Double Wrapped" (that's ask for two tortillas please) you get a good chunk of fish with a lot of toppings, it'll be like two tacos anyway, you'll feel like you got 2-4-1 wink wink. Stick to the house Margarita, don't waste your cash on the millionaire, billionaire the Zocalo or whatever the house marg is GOOD ENOUGH! and what EVER you do TIP THAT WAITRESS 20 per cent, don't get all Steve Buscemi on them (p.s. I used to work for the Brig Family Restaurants) and like I mentioned before, pretend its your birthday and you get a free dessert (creme brulee...mmmmm) - OOOHHH I almost forgot, when they bring you bread ASK for Jalapeno Cream Sauce, its only like 45,000 calories, but oh my god, its so FU*KING DELICIOUS, you'll want to put it on EVERYTHING. Go on "WINE WEDNESDAY" half price bottles of selected wines, cant go wrong! GET CRUNK!

I love this place. First of all let me tell you that I have never eaten in the rest. I have only had food & drinks in the bar. SURPRISE! The happy hour prices are really cheap! The food is really ygood. You can get a light bite to eat or totally fill your belly! I love the margaritas, but be careful the tops come off. Even after 100 warnings I still have had a mishap or 2. I just love Coronado.

After getting into Coronado and meeting up with friends, we chose to eat at the brig... Didn't disappoint at all, service was great, drinks were mixed right, the swordfish was phenomenal, and the coffee ice cream dessert was divine.. This is how seafood should be cooked and served!

Dark interior. So-so food. It's the afterwork hangout for 1,000 65 year old real estate agents who work in Coronado. I do think it's hygenic since it always seems to smell like cleaning products. If you want great seafood, go to Pehoe's, if you want a fun bar, go to McP's. This place is overrated.

My husband and I decided to come here with our guests (5 of us total) after we were married on the beach in front of the Hotel del Coronado. The food was not that great and the service was unspectacular as well. The atmosphere was nice, but I wouldn't really recommend this place. They offered us a free dessert, which was very nice, but it didn't make up for the subpar food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants! On top of that, it has a full bar inside as well. Its to me the best of both worlds. Its its its.... amazing to me. There is an awesome bar menu for the $$ range and if you feel like having an intimate dinning experience there is the $$$-$$$$ area. There are private booths if you would like or general seating. A perfect place for the first dinner date or for a great meal. If you sit at the bar they have the BEST swordfish tacos and their fish tacos are great too. When ever my dad comes down to visit we go their for his incredible urge for their fish tacos. :) I have had a lot of good experiences here. Although when it gets busy on the weekend it is hard to find seating at the bar, which to me is one of the only negatives. I still have to get it 5 stars because I think it deserves it.

We were staying at the Del Coronado and having bad experiences, so we decided to take a walk. I was glad that I remembered checking the Brigantine on Yelp. You never know what to expect with a seafood restaurant and the Brig has a dark, classic, heavy look which caused some apprehension. I remembered there were mixed reviews, but decided to trust most of the Yelpers and we went inside to test the bar food. We sat outside and had a great time. We only ordered seafood and it was excellent. Nice people. Very nice food servers. Decent prices. We ended up coming back two more times. Don't forget to check the daily bar specials.

We go there regularly for happy hour. The clam chowder is great, the fish tacos are tasty, and we like the tempura shrimp poke. On the regular menu I absolutely love the seared ahi dish. They have a lovely patio that works out well with our rambunctious kids.

Where to start. We arrived at about 5:30 pm on a weeknight, not very busy at all. The girl at the door greeted us and said that a hostess would seat us momentarily. So we sat in the lobby for 10 minutes waiting for a hostess to seat us, until she finally came giggling up to the podium and sat us. We got to our seat and waited another ten minutes for a server to show up. When she did show up she was so incredibly uninterested in us I could barely understand her. Drinks took another 10 minutes, the bread we requested didn't come out until after our salads, and we had to ask for water 3 times. On to the food. Blah, boring and overpriced. My sea bass was so overcooked it was almost inedible. My husband's pasta tasted like something from a cafeteria. And, to add insult to injury, my creme brulee was covered in charred sugar and ever so slightly curdled. Overall just a bad experience that I don't think I'll ever repeat.

We came across this restaurant by accident. We had just picked up family at the airport to join us on vacation and headed to Coronado Island to do a little shopping and watch the sunset and we happened to park near Brigantine. We were seated immediately (we ate around 5pm- I know that is early, don't laugh our stomachs were still in the Central Time zone). The menu offered a variety of items order, which made it hard since it all sounded so good. We ordered the Crab and Shrimp Fondue for the 4 of us to share and it was excellent. It was an ooey, gooey pan of cheese and seafood goodness that I couldn't eat fast enough. The garlic toasts that came with the fondue gave it an added bonus of flavor. For dinner I settled on the macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi and the husband ordered the stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. My fish was crunchy on the outside and nice and delicate on the inside. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, but I would have liked a little more garlic flavor. The rest of the table was happy with their food as well. Our server was attentive without being over bearing.

A great place for lunch, less so for dinner. The fish tacos are great and the Caesar salad with anchovies (if you so desire) is wonderful, as is the service. Unfortunately, both times I have dined there for dinner have shown slow service and the king-crab-legs special was quite salty. This is the older-style dark-booth seafood destination of the later 60s - which is when the first one on Shelter Island was built. The owner said they were going to start some taco-tuesday or happy-hour specials on food but I have yet to see it happen (possibly look for it soon?)

This was my fourth Brigantine that I tried to make reservations at for Mothers day, Coronado was the only one I could get a table for nine people. Mothers day was a hit. My mom liked it she ordered the halibut dore style, egg batter and capers its good we usually have the calamari served dore style both are memorable. Two of us had the bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab I'm still thinking of that one. Others ordered fresh grilled fish seabass, swordfish, my dad had the Chiappino, everyone in our party liked their meal no complaints on the food or service. We were seated in a too small booth and we requested a couple of chairs be set in the corridor so we could have some elbow room, the waiter was very accommodating with us, a couple of people in our party get grumpy if things aren't just so.I was glad when we were are comfortable and ready to enjoy our delicious meal.Coronado is such a quaint cute city to visit and I love old San Diego style restaurants. It's been a long time since I ate at the Coronado location, I usually go to the one in La Mesa.

While visiting San Diego, we looked online for a good seafood restaurant on Coronado and settled on Brigantine. Got a reservation easily on Opentable for 8pm on a Saturday. The place was easy to find, and a spot opened up in their lot as we circled for the second time (otherwise street parking was scarce). We were seated 15 min past reservation time, but they were very busy, so ok. Waiter seemed inexperienced and harried. Took our drink and appetizer orders, said he'd return for dinner order. Waiter returned to say they didn't carry the vodka we ordered, so we substituted another. Drinks arrived farily quickly but they were made with soda instead of tonic, as ordered. We waited a good 10 minutes before we saw our waiter again to inform him and ask for the drinks to be re-done. He ran off without taking our dinner order. Had to ask a passing busboy for bread. New drinks arrived, made right. A while later, waiter brought one of two appetizers and had to be reminded that we had ordered two, so he ran off again. Finally got our dinner order placed (though he tried to talk me out of the side of risotto paired with the fish and was pushing the cheaper rice pilaf). An hour after sitting down, we got our entree dishes. Food was ok...fish was hot, steamed veggies were cold. Not a memorable experience and would probably not return again, even if we lived in the area.

If you're at the Hotel and you're in the mood for seafood then this is the place I would tell you to go. They have really great Salmon and their drinks are amazing- nice and stiff. Their staff is nice and the price is not too bad, although watch out because the sirloin steak is a tad bit expensive for what it is.

Th redone bar area certainly seems like it was designed by the bartender(s) as they have much more room than the guests and a view of the passing scenery :). It is certainly no longer dark! Plenty of Plasma screens for sports and the bartenders are friendly expert mixologists. The happy hour eats are wonderful and pack the bar, besides the just after work time they also have a 10Pm til ~~ happy hour during which they serve quite a few of their great (and inexpensive) fish tacos. The food is expertly prepared both the fresh seafood aswell as the pastas and steaks etc. For wine geeks, the list might be a bit short. I have never had a bad meal and except for an incident in the eighties, the service has been swift and friendly. Brian's review, about it being dark, is either based on pre renovation (2 years + ago) or he went at night. In regards to the smell he might be referring to the old bar, if you sat at the bar right by the dishwashing tubs, you could smell the, health department mandated, chemicals in one of the tubs. These are now gone. No! I'm not a realtor!

Because I've been super busy with school and work, I haven't been on a romantic date with my girlfriend for several months. After a successful job interview, I decided to take my girlfriend to Brigantine to enjoy each other's company and celebrate a potential new job. Despite having a reservation, we were still told to wait 10 minutes in the lobby area. Not only did it took at least 5 minutes for the 3 receptionists to notice us in an empty lobby, neither of them really respected our presence or took us seriously. Okay, I may look young, but I'm still a paying customer that deserves some respect. Anyway, after we were seated, we were greeted by our waitress, Harper. She was observant, always refilling my girlfriend's lemon press. Though it wasn't till I paid for dinner did I find out it wasn't free refills. However, the never bothered to take away any of our dirty plates. It wasn't until I paid did she finally take away the bread basket, the small tins of butter, and three other dirty dishes. Our table was a mess, from having nowhere to push the finished plates. And even though Harper visited us at least 5 times during dinner, she never took those plates away. Onto the food. The butter for the bread was oh-so-delicious. It melted almost instantly on the warm bread, and I have no complaints. We ordered the crab & shrimp cheese fondue, served with thin garlic breads. Oh my goodness... it was so amazing! Slightly salty for my taste, but it was baked to perfection and I truly encourage anyone who love cheese and seafood to give this a try. The clam chowder was very good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the crunchy texture of the potatoes. My girlfriend ordered the honey-pecan sockeye salmon, which was chef's special of the day. Well, he must've forgotten to flavor the salmon, because it was so bland. It had no taste and it wasn't anything memorable. I ordered the filet mignon wrapped in bacon and served with a peppercorn sauce. It also had no taste. The steak didn't have any flavor, and to my dismay, the peppercorn sauce didn't add any additional flavor to my steak. The chives-truffle shoestring potatoes (one of the sides) was really good though, as were the seasonal vegetables. I also had a mango mojito, which is definitely worth a try! It was flavorful, sweet, but you can still taste the rum. Yum. Overall, we were only somewhat satisfied with our experience. The food and service could definitely be better.

Good food, good location. The service was good too. Everything tasted good and was served in a timely fashion, not rushed nor slow. Our waitress was friendly and familiar with the menu. She made excellent recomendations based on our needs and not the bottom line. The atmosphere was clean and fun. I would recommend this place to my friends and business associates alike.

Pretty good food, fancy so it's small portions of good food and pricy. I like how they have freshly caught fish. The ambiance is cool and customer service was nice.

The Brigantine is awesome! My favorite Brig is the one in La Mesa, it is always packed! The fish tacos are awesome and the Swordfish tacos are even better. For brunch try the french toast encrusted with Coconut, it is like having dessert for breakfast, it is awesome!!! Love the Brig...

I came here with some friends on a Saturday afternoon while walking around Coronado. My SD friends raved about the oysters here, so I ordered 3 each of the oysters they were serving that day (half a dozen total). The oysters were very fresh (don't forget the tabasco!), though a bit on the pricey side. I've heard that their happy hour menu is pretty good, and the beer they brew themselves is quite unique... or as my friend would say, it tastes like the ocean. -L.

Food was okay, fish was fresh but way over spiced. Service was horrible! Drinks were good but over priced. Did I mention how lousy the service was? All the way from reservations through getting the check we were treated poorly. Won't be going back!

My boyfriend and I are staying the weekend in Coronado. We had a regular fish taco and swordfish taco. The swordfish was spicy but very tasty we added avocado which made it even better. The spinach salad was delicious.we had the brig brew which was very good also...the downfall is the tables are right next to each other and you have no privacy.i would come back but not for a nice dinner just for lunch.

the fried shrimp was over cooked so mostly you tasted fried batter. Crowded seating left no possibility for a pleasant experience one on one with your date. We waited for everything, annoying when you need a drink refill or just someone to take your order. This Brigantine certainly needs to improve on their service and food.

Great happy hour specials. Great ambiance and vibe. It's the place where the cool people hang out, LOL! Seriously, get some famous fish tacos and white jalapeno sauce. Friendly bartenders. Parking can be in short supply, though. Great times here with my brothers!

Decided to go back a second time. This time the service was pretty lame. However, the food made up for it. Got the crab and shrimp fondue as a starter. It was so rich, was topped with crispy parmesan, and had garlic buttered bread crisps. Swordfish tacos were the main meal. The fish was seasoned very well, very juicy. I really thought the food here was great and would recommend this place for sure!

  • Craig G.

For a place on the ocean I would have expected much better food. The shrimp cocktail was frozen, the oysters were sub par, and the Ciopinno tasted like it had been in a warming pot for a week (WAY over cooked). The only thing that saved this place was the service.

Brigantine Seafood Restaurant in Coronado - EXCELLENT! This was the first restaurant we stopped at after getting off the plane from Chicago. The white peach sangria was a great way to start off the vacation - it was delicious (careful the alcohol could not be tasted) and was a "take the edge off" type of cocktail. The swordfish tacos were to die for! Highly recommend. The halibut was a great choice as well. We started with the crab & shrimp dip as an appetizer (delicious). I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner! Great service, beautiful weather (we were seated outside), and delicious food and drink.

Eh. I wasn't impressed but I gave it 3 stars because I don't care for seafood in the first place. The shrimp taco was good but I ordered the ribs and French fries and they were all pretty subpar. We had to sit at the bar so it took forever to get served and get our check. Not the best ever but not the worst.

This is a great place to eat in Coronado. You can walk in with casual attire on and have a great meal. The Clam Chowder is good and the fried shrimp was very good as well. I recommend the blue cheese potato salad if you want to try something a little unusual. The blue cheese is definitely there but doesn't overpower the dish like blue cheese normally does. The service was also very good. Best exemplified by the fact we had a large party and the waiter came back to inform us we left an overly generous tip since gratuity was already included. And our order was accurate and timely as well.

Really, really impressed with this restaurant. We arrived early for our reservation but got seated right away and in just a few minutes, our server Spencer was putting water on the table and telling us about the specials. We started by sharing oysters Rockefeller and some really yummy bread and butter. I had a Blue Passion martini and I can't really remember how it was made but it was one of the best martinis I've had so far. Spencer recommended the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab and wrapped in bacon so even though I'm not a big shrimp fan, I decided to try it and I was not disappointed. Even the sauteed veggies on the side were delicious! The Man had the grilled swordfish with avocado lime butter and said it was excellent as well. As much as we wanted to try desert, we were just too full so we called it a night. I can't wait to come back and work my way around the menu!

Best fish taco on the planet!!!! Casual pub atmosphere with a great selection of small plates to choose from. We had the swordfish taco, fried clam strips and other nibbles. Everything was well priced, fresh, good sized portions. Enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for lunch again.

I heard from a friend that this place has great fish tacos so we decided try it out. We walked in, party of 8 (3 adults, 5 children) and we were asked if we had reservations. I answered no, and was promptly told by the hostess, "without a reservation there is no room for a party of 8 tonight." A second person suggested she could seat us at two separate tables of 4 but they would not be near each other. Needless to say we did not eat here, will never make reservations here and will make sure to share our unhappy experience with everyone we know. If you don't want to serve people you shouldn't be in the business.

I like the Brigantine and haven't been in years today i was shocked--they only get 3 stars because the service was soooooo slow, the waitress forgot our drinks and took forever to bring us our lunch, there weren't a whole lot of people in the restaurant. I ordered the seafood combo and i didn't know (maybe I didn't read it on the menu) it was all fried! It was ok, real small and filling--my boyfriend ordered the terriyaki chicken and his was so tasty. Just don't go on a busy day I suppose, otherwise you could get horrible service. I probably wont be going back to this location anymore.

The Brig was a great experience for us. The building itself is a nicely designed whitewashed building and the interior is (naturally) very nautically themed. Decor was at times a little hokey, but still staying more on the classy side overall. Our server was friendly and relatively knowledgeable about the food. However, she really knew nothing about wine and was dressed in a weird way. The other servers looked fairly normal and professional so I think we just lucked out this time. Despite appearances, the food suggestions she made were spot on. Appetizer: 1) crab cakes - awesome, arguably the best I have had (including maryland and new england). A great deal of crab but still maintained a crisp consistency. Main course 1) seafood combo - the fried scallops were amazing! fish and shrimp were good too but the scallops were out of this world. 2) swordfish with avocado lime butter - very flavorful and almost meaty. Fish was not overcooked. Accompaniments 1) Rice pilaf - not that great, a little bland and didn't compliment the entree very well 2) cole slaw - excellent! one of the best i've had and went very well with our dishes overall a great experience and the food was definitely the winner at this place. A few things could be improved upon in aesthetics and service, but food quality and presentation were beyond expectations at this price point. I would definitely return to this place next time I'm in Coronado.

Drove to Coronado impulsively on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. It was before noon - place was still relatively quiet. Restaurant was gorgeous; felt like we had a personal maitre d'; coconut crusted French toast was tres magnifique, and the price was right. Will definitely go again!

This is one of those places that you can come to for years with your family. They've got all the basics, clam chowder, oysters, fried seafood, grilled seafood, burgers, ribs, etc. I tried the artichoke fritters to start and they were really great. Although they appeared heavily fried, the coating was light and puffy and didn't take away from the artichoke flavor at all. The lemon tartar sauce that accompanied it was also delicious. For my main course I got a bowl of the clam chowder and a half dozen oysters. The oysters were really good but I preferred the Malaspina one's. Sweet and delish! The clam chowder was your average clam chowder... I swear, nothing beats Disneyland's clam chowder! Service was slow, but it's to be expected on an island in San Diego right?

I love this place! A visit to the San Diego area must include this seafood restaurant. The location is perfect, right next to the Coronado beach, and in a nice little neighborhood. The inside tables are nice for an evening meal, while the outside tables are great for a sunny afternoon. The waiters may be a little slow at times, but they are very nice and polite. For the lunch menu, you have to get there before 2:30 pm. The happy hour menu is limited, but still has some good selections. Definitely try the crab sandwich. The amount of crab that they give is a lot more than other seafood places I've been to. Also try the tempura shrimp, which comes with a delicious mango coleslaw. Your tastebuds will thank you. And if you're still hungry, try the fish taco, which comes with a huge piece of fish. And when you're done with your meal, take a nice walk along the beach!

I've been here countless times since I was a kid, but I've only ever ordered the fish tacos or the clam chowder (during happy hour), both of which are great. The service is always good and it's very reasonably priced.

  • Mark M.

Went for dinner on a Monday so there was not much of a wait or crowd...which was awesome. Food was reasonably priced (except for the crab cake appetizer...yes I said crab cake, singular). All the food tasted great though, and the service was prompt and attentive.

This was just an average place to dine. It was hopping for happy hour at the bar. We were put back by the kitchen/server door and we assume that was because we were dressed in beach attire and towing our 13 yr old with us. Soon after, several couples with kids were placed near us. For the food, we ordered the seafood fondue, oysters on the half, and crab cake for appetizers. All were amazing! For dinner we ordered swordfish tacos, seared ahi Asian dish, and bacon wrapped crab stuffed prawns. Best was the tacos. Could've done without either of the other 2 dishes. Shocked that this wasn't really a seafood restaurant. Strange that Coronado doesn't really have an actual seafood restaurant like we find in FL.

The wife and I had dinner here. We walked in around 7pm and there were quite a few people waiting to be seated. Fortunately for us parties of 2 were being seated immediately. We sat in a section that was basically a hallway with half-circle shaped booths. Very nice when you are on a date. The only drawback is you are directly facing another booth. The decor was nautical themed as I would expect for seafood restaurant in Coronado. I ordered the macadamia crusted mahi-mahi and my wife ordered teriyaki glazed Ono. I also ordered a spinach salad with the basaltic dressing. They have a nice but not huge selection of wines. Both meals were delicious and the portions were fair for the price. There was a couple of times where the waitress disappeared for extended periods, other than that service was good. The drawback to this restaurant, and this is true for this area of Coronado in general... The parking is horrible. We had to park about 4 blocks away and walk here. It was not a bad walk, but it might not be fun for the ladies wearing heels. If you are driving here you might want to plan for extra time to find parking. We were fortunate that we walked around this area earlier in the day and had an idea of where to find parking.

My husband keeps trying to get me to the Brigantine. Taco Tuesday seems to be the lure. Not for me, greasy, fatty meat. The menu isn't my style. The interior is odd. It just feels confused and expensive for what you get.

Nothing special! Macadamia fish, mashed potatoes and clam chowder were all lacking flavor. Truly disappointed. Service was good. Lemon drop was perfect. The shrimp wrapped in bacon was about the only thing I liked.

went to the bar for a few appetizers and cocktails. The bartender was super nice and the fondue was killer. Though we had a cool time here, it's not the sort of "locals" bar or restaurant one might like to go to. Don't half step. Get their margarita. Wow.

My family and I drove to Coronado on April 4th to go have lunch. The place was a madhouse, traffic was slow, parking was almost non-existent. Another beautiful day in a beach town. After driving around for about an hour we finally found a parking spot on a side street and started to walk. We found Brigantine by chance and decided to step in. What a refreshing experience. First of all, we had exceptional service, which we hadn't found at any restaurant during our trip. Second, the food was outstanding. The calamari was cooked to perfection, the seafood was very fresh and extremely tasty. We will come back to Brigantine again when we are in the area and will visit any of their 3 restaurants if we are nearby.

I did a lot of Yelp research to find a moderately priced place for seafood for a mixed foursome in the Downtown/Gasplamp area. I felt like I was striking out at finding something moderately price, wasn't just a steakhouse menu, and yet had enough interesting variety to seem a little adventurous. Atmosphere was a bonus. When I expanded my search to Coronado, I came up with Brigantine. Granted, the water taxi service ended early, so it was a $20 cab ride there. Glad we took the ride. The staff was friendly (happily called us a cab home, too). The restaurant was large and didn't feel crowded. Clean and nicely appointed inside. Not too sterile, not too lived in. I had the Santa Rosalia Scallops and they were wonderful. Perfectly cooked and had a wonderfully fresh and savory sauce. The sauce, however, could've been spicier, given it has serranos in it (or was supposed to have serranos). The veggies were really nice, including baby squash. The rice was fine, but forgettable. Bread and butter at the table were good, as was the sangria. My meal of the scallops and drink was $30 plus tip. This wasn't the MOST inventive place, but had good, solid food that was a step above the standard steakhouse fare. And it was at a very fair prcie. A great place to take a group because it's large and there's something for everyone.

Normally, I am a huge fan of this place in Del Mar and Point Loma. It was my first time at this location and I was totally underwhelmed. We were seated quickly as we arrived at 4:30 famished. We were told our server would be right with us. A bus boy, an older gentleman, asked if he could get us water while we waited. We asked for some sparkling water but he said "I can only get you water" and shook his hands at us. Ummmmm ok then water is fine. We ordered the carpaccio and the standard fish tacos, my usual order. The carpaccio was like... Grandma's slop. I know that sounds rough but it was. There was zero presentation and the fish was only so-so. I forgot to ask for my special adds - flower tortillas instead of corn and add avo - so the tacos were lacking. But that was my fault I guess for not asking for the special order since the regular way isn't good enough. Basically, we ended fulling up on two baskets of bread as neither of us could finish what we ordered. My date is still feeling queasy from his meal 5 hours later. The quit staff was nice and the ambience was decent.

I went with my mom and sister and had the sand dabs and the delicious cheese garlic bread. It was all really good and I was happy to have a place like this to go to in Escondido. But, what put them over the top was their customer service. I lost my phone there (on the saturday before the new year) and they called me at work on Tuesday. (they may have called before that I just was there to get the call) They held my phone for me until thursday (as I live in los angeles) and when my sister picked it up for me they had even charged it! They are just too nice. We also got takeout from them. I love their takeout containers because they have different slots for the main meal and two sides. This time I got red snapper. Delicious!!

Three stars is definitely low, but four stars is a hair high. We were seated nearly immediately on a Sunday night... The food here is good! I had the shrimp stuffed with crab wrapped in bacon, which was great - but a bit light; I was expecting larger shrimp or more of them. I also had the cup of New England Chowder...good, but not mind-blowing. Lourie had the fish and chips which was good, but there was too much! Maybe there's a happy medium in there somewhere...we shared the artichoke fritters which again were good, but not mind-blowing...and it was a LOT for an appetizer. Service was good...all in all just a hair short of a four, really. Aw, what the heck, I'll throw in another star. We'd go again.

Overall we had a nice experience but the food and the service could have been better. On to the food: A dozen of oysters on the half shell: just don't do it. it wasn't that fresh plus literally HALF of them had shell pieces in them. So i was busy spitting out shells and oysters. very uncool. They should replace their oyster shucker for someone who actually knows how to shuck. For 2 bucks an oyster it was not worth it,on top of that we had to wait a while to flag someone down to bring us tobasco since our waitress was MIA. They are stiiiiingy with the lemon slices too. All we got were 2 tiny wedges of lemon. The guy who brought it to us was pretty nice though. Coconut shrimp: cool presentation, came skewered into a large piece of grilled pineapple with a mango relish. the coconut flavor was VERY subtle though. Crab and Lobster salad ($19): not a big salad eater but this was pretty tasty. The portion is huge and had enough crab and lobster pieces to fill me up before i even finished half of it. The dressing was not too heavy and was pretty good ( avocado-lime dressing?). The avocado in the salad itself however was totally brown and very unappetizing. I repeat, it was BROWN!!! Who knows how long it's been out. Swordfish: i heard it was pretty good. The portion is not very generous but if you order a few appetizers along with the meal it should fill you up (hopefully) Bread and butter: the bread was totally burnt, hard, and cold. dessert: I have no idea since i didn't see a dessert menu, nor were we offered any by our waitress. The peach green tea is pretty good, though it was a bit on the sweet side. total bill was 95 prior to tip. not bad at all price wise, but i'm still VERY disappointed with the dozen of oysters.

I would have to say the Brig is fair to good. I started with the clam chowder which had a thick texture that I like and good flavor. My wife had scallops which were really good and I had a salmon special that was slightly overcooked (not bone dry) which was decent. Service was ok, interior decor was a little funky and dated.

We were looking for somewhere to gave dinner before going to the theater at Lamb's Players Theater. We'd been disappointed the last few years at the other places we'd chosen. So we did some research this year. We were impressed that they took reservations and very impressed with the service and food. They were very accommodating to our time crunch. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and drinks. We will be going back in the future and would recommend to friends!

Good restaurant for the family. And very convenient to Hotel Del Coronado (across the street). Valet at Beach Villas recommended over Leroy's. Fish tacos are outstanding...especially with the house hot sauce (watch out..sauce is Hot!). Taco Tuesday gives you better prices on the fish tacos (and other types of tacos), but you have to eat in the lounge to get them for the special price. Fresh fish dishes were outstanding as well, as was the burger. Also like the local brew selection.

We stopped here for lunch before heading for home. We love seafood, but didn't want to pay too much (like that famous San Diego Seafood place on the water by the cruise line terminals). The Brig fit the bill. Salads were fresh and delicious. Calamari appetizer was tasty, and most importantly, not rubbery. Fish and chips were crispy, tasty, and served hot. My daughter's fried shrimp was also crispy and delicious. The place seems like it could be fancy/dressy, but since this is Coronado, you can get by with casual. Service is excellent.

Last nite we were treated to Brigantine for Dinner - I am gluten free - so not always sure what to order at Restaurants. Waitress was very helpful - so I ordered the swordfish with a limebutter sauce on top with fresh steamed veggies and mashed potatos - hubby had the Shrimp and Grits - also gluten free so I got to sample. OMG can you say awesome - I have never eaten swordfish so did not know what to expect - but it was quite possibly the best fish dish I have ever had. As for hubbys dish - best shrimp and grits i've ever eaten also. You will not be sorry if you eat at this place - It is 100% great and service is excellent.

Seafood dishes offered were limited and unimaginative. Kids menu was no different than something you would find at an American chain restaurant. Ordered the grass fed New York steak. Steak was over done, fingerling potatoes and mushrooms were tough and chewy and lacked flavor. The seafood combo was just a big plate of fried mess. This place is very over rated and over priced.

To Be quite honest, I dont like leaving reviews that could hinder a business. The location was great but the food really wasnt anything like I would have imagined for such a nice restaurant. The locations the primary reason they are in business. If you dont like battered or fried, PLEASE DONT GO HERE! Even the catch of the day states SEARED or SAUTEED but it comes out with MOUNDS of batter on it. On a first date it looks a bit weird to say "Excuse me but the menu didnt say this was battered" so I struggled to pick off the batter and really didnt enjoy much of the conversation of my date. Service was a little OVER THE TOP, somewhat too much and no privacy, checking up on the table every 45-60 seconds..... Nice location and good fancy set up but thats about it for likes.

I can only rate it 3/5 bc I requested gluten free meal that was NOT gluten free. (My symptoms are pretty obvious within a few hours of eating.) Maybe they mislabeled their flour tortillas as corn tortillas. Other than that it seemed like a cute place. I sat at the bar and had nice conversations with some regulars.

I have to say, I was disappointed. I go to the Brigantine often, but usually in Point Loma and Del Mar and usually sit at the bar for tacos. The Coronado one felt crowded and cramped and the food was underwhelming.

Unmemorable meal at an outrageous price. I had the "famous" swordfish ($26), my friend had the mixed fried seafood ($19, I think). We both left feeling dissatisfied and gross. His was bland- everything tasted the same, so it was just a big plate of fried batter. While the swordfish was fresh, the "avocado lime butter" just sat atop the lukewarm fish, next to a melon-ball sized scoop of flavorless "rice pilaf". I wasn't expecting Michelin service, but it's rude (and a basic service no-no) for a server to clear one guest's plate if another is still eating. It puts pressure on the other diner to hurry and is just considered gauche. Management should probably know that. So. Wouldn't recommend it.

We (2 adults and a 6 yr old) ate here for dinner recently and had a generally positive experience. The food was good, I had the seared Ahi and my wife, the Grass fed New York, both were above average. I had the clam chowder as an appetizer, which also was good. My wife thought the salad she had was exceptional. The only real complaint was that service was a bit slow but friendly. The restaurant was about half full and we sat waiting for soup and salad, as well as dinner, for longer than I would've expected. Overall, it was a solid experience.

The food is amazing!!!! That goes for their happy hour prices and the quality! They have the best fish tacos ever! Our service was slow and twice our gal forgot about our order but once everything arrived it was totally worth the wait. Good for Happy Hour! We were at Coronado and decided to try to find a happy hour. The server was quick and friendly.

For the Coranado area, I might give five stars. Best of all the restaurants we tried over a several day period. Scallops were weak and salty but salmon was top notch. Fresh seafood, good sides and deserts. Helpful waitstaff. Try it and avoid the big new seafood place down the road

While on vacation at the Dell we stopped here for dinner - it's right across the street. Staff was great, very friendly and had great suggestions. Great cocktails that were not overly priced. We had the Fried Calamari app that comes with a wonderful white sauce. Not overly breaded, very hot and crisp. I had the wok-charred ahi, it was cooked perfectly and loved the sauce and stir fry that came with it. My husband got the crab-stuffed jumbo prawns. While they were good, it was not his favorite meal on our trip. When we go back he'll try something else. Portions were generous; we would definitely go back.

They currently have two locations, and luck for me the other location is 5 mins from my neighborhood "La Mesa." But I still love this spot the area where its located the Best. Wify took me there b4 we got married and had all four courses. Salad, soup, main dish and dessert. Impressed ever since. But if you ever get a chance to drop in during brunch YOU MUST order their mimosa drink w/ their fresh OJ. Everything else is top A+ all of the above. Good FOOD.

A lot has happened since my last review, let me break it down for you in haiku form: New job. Chevy Spark. Happy hour at Outback. Hot skanks. COD. Ok, so for my new job I had to drive out to this retirement home on this island called Coronado to give a presentation on plastic dishware. The company was too cheap to fly me so I had to drive like 20 freakin hours. I basically work for a bunch of douches. (Yes, I'm talking about you, Dwayne.) Anyway, I get to the island and I have about 5 hours to kill before I have to do my thing. I'm driving around and I see some hotties outside this place so I pull in. I walk up to the bar and I'm like, "Bro, fix me up." Within 5 minutes I have a tall, frosty mojito sitting in front of me. I'm like, "Seriously?" And he's like, "Very." I make sure none of the hotties are looking and I throw it back. Not bad. Suddenly, this hottie sits down right next to me and I'm like, crap, this chick probably thinks I'm into dudes because I just slammed this mojito. Wrong. She looks at me and is like, "Is that a mojito? I LOVE men that aren't afraid to drink mojitos in public." Long story short, I got some digits, I crushed some fish tacos, and then I closed the deal at the retirement home. Eat it, Dwayne.

Walked around Coronado and we were craving seafood and stumbled upon this place. It was about 9pm and there was a good amount of people, but we didn't have to wait for a table. Our server was nice and friendly, told us the specials and put in our orders right away. My husband had clam chowder and swordfish and I had a salad and halibut. He enjoyed his soup and fish. I enjoyed my salad and halibut. The halibut had a nice crust on it and it was rather flakey. The vegetables served with the fish was seasoned nicely. The prices were very reasonable, the atmosphere is casual and service was given with a smile. Couldn't really ask for anything more.

Went here on a Sunday after taking the ferry over from DT San Diego. Happy hour was going on. Calamari is great! (one of the dipping sauces is the cheese sauce from Miguel's in Pt. Loma!). Tempura shrimp were tasty, clam chowder was wonderful, beer was cold and delicious! I will be back for sure.

Awesome happy hour! Great fish taco and calamari! Oysters from blue point were fresh and delicious. Recommend!

In terms of seafood on Coronado, this appeared to be the best selection of fresh fish and raw bar, and it turned out to be that way. Had some fresh oysters on the half and they were presented well and well selected. The app known as the cocktail del mar (includes shrimp, red fish, avocado and celery - almost ceviche like) was awesome. Fresh catch was just that and did not disappoint.

Must get the shrimp and crab fondue and Millionaire Margarita. We also had soft crab BLT and crab cake sandwiches, very tasty! Ask for Erin, fantastic waitress!

FISH TACOS!!! Best fish tacos on my trip. We waited 30 minutes or so at 6pm on a Saturday, so definitely make a reservation or come early like we did. I had the clam chowder, which was good but nothing beats Disneyland, and the fish tacos fried. Mmmmm sooooo tasty. We also shared an app; seared ahi tuna, which was fresh and tasty. My mother had a yummy, leafy shrimp and crab? salad, and my sister had the Chopino. Everything was very good, not just our food but the service as well. My sis said on Tuesdays their tacos are only like $2, which sounds amazing! I would love to be back here then,- okay actually whenever!

Came here on a Saturday evening and it was packed as always. Our party of 2 was seated w/in 20 mins, but customers coming in after us were quoted 45 mins to an hour. Perfect timing! For an appetizer, we had the red tortilla chips with the jalapeno cheese/cream sauce. Chips were cold and lacked flavor and salt, but the dip was really yummy. Recommend using that for the brown bread they serve you too (thank me later). The menu made this appetizer sound better than it was. For the main course, I had the seared ahi over veggies, which had a nice presentation. I was expected large steamed veggies, but what I got were squished up stir fried veggies (reminded me of canned La Choy veggies) buried under the ahi and around a scooped of steamed white rice. Wish I had known there was rice (server didn't mention and it wasn't noted on the menu). I would have asked for the ahi and veggies only. Boyfriend had the fish and chips, which looked good. Really big pieces of fish, great tasting cole slaw and a good portion size of shoestring fries. Fries could have been crispier and saltier, but probably got soft because they were under the hot fish. He also commented that the fish wasn't greasy at all, which is key. My fave entree here in years past was the coconut shrimp, but it looks like they've moved that to the appetizer menu and jacked up the price. Thumbs down. Service was fast and server was nice, but it was about 59 degrees outside yet they seated us at a table directly under four A/C vents. I was freezing and having allergy issues by the end of dinner. They just need to remove that table altogether. Overall, not great, but not bad. Still one of my favorite restaurants in SD!

My husband and I came to this restaurant for dinner on a Sunday night. We were really impressed! I had the Macademia crusted Mahi Mahi. He had the swordfish. Both meals were delicious and the portions were perfect. Our server was very nice and the prices were reasonable.

Came here with a big group while vacationing in Coronado. Try the calamari, they were delicious (and complimentary with a coupon from our hotel concierge). The salad was enormous - I mean enormous, you have been warned - get the full salad only if you want salad for 6 people. Baby back ribs and coleslaw were good. Cioppino was excellent. Family friendly place. Service good and friendly.

The Brigantine is a great place for lunch or dinner! Unfortunately, our kids are allergic to seafood, so we aren't able to make it here as much as we'd like. I just love their shrimp and even the French fries are some of the nest I've had. You will not be disappointed!

I was excited to go to the Brigantine since I'd heard good things, but our first experience guaranteed we won't be back. We sat near the bar and ordered drinks. I asked for a glass of sangria: red wine, brandy and fresh citrus juice. My boyfriend ordered a cucumber cooler: muddled cucumber, lime, simple syrup and gin. Since we were close to the bar, we were watching the bartender make our drinks. He never muddled the cucumber, and he poured wine out of a bottle over ice. No brandy, no citrus. When the drinks arrived, two huge chunks of cucumber sank to the bottom of a club soda sea in the cucumber cooler. My boyfriend used his straw to poke the cucumber in hopes of releasing flavor. I tasted my drink, hoping I was wrong but it was straight up wine and ice. I sent my drink back and asked for a skinny margarita: tequila, agave nectar and fresh lime juice (allegedly.) If there's one thing I know, it's margaritas. I can tell just by looking at the color if it's fresh-squeezed or not. I tasted the drink anyway. If the atomic, unnatural green color wasn't enough, the taste told me I wasn't getting the fresh lime that justified the $10 price of the drink. The manager happened to be walking by, and I told him what was going on. I have to say, he was great. He apologized and tried to make the situation right. He said there'd be no charge for the drinks and asked us to stay so they could make it up to us, but by then, the experience was ruined. We went to another restaurant that made skinny margaritas with fresh lime juice, just like the menu promised.

Pretty tasty! Went here for brunch on a Sunday. The basket full of delicious pastries was AMAZING. There were mini croissants, bear claws, and some other square something filled with fruit jelly. They were so buttery and warm! Very good. Eggs benedict was good. Bottomless champagne was way better. Overall nice little atmosphere. I will keep this place in mind for next time and for dinner instead. Service was great!

Our family decided to spend the family vacation at Coronado. We were so tired and hungry for sea food. we didn't know where to go, so we checked on google and this restaurant came up first with great reviews. we even didn't wait to find seats- great customer service. the waiter offered so many different ways shrimp and swordfish- The food was so delicious.I would say a+ . we truly recommend this place to everyone.

We ate lunch here before we went to the races, so we expected it to be busy... Which it was not, thankfully! The food was great, the service made you feel like royalty, it was a great experience. We sat in the outdoorish area, it was an enclosed, covered area and there was a view of the fairgrounds. Parking lot is small and Valet ONLY.

Server was pretty good. I think she was busy, but tucker the busser was on a roll. Cleaning and bussing everything in eye view. Fish and chips were perfect, but the grilled fish sandwich was okkk. Wish it was toasted a little more and the fish was very bland. For a 16$ sandwich u would think it would be better......... So it must have slowed down a bit because the waitress has been much more attentive toward the end of the meal. The brig in point Loma is better and the energy is a bit higher. It's very quite here... Good for a date if ur just getting to know each other. The servers names was Alyssa.... Or so it says on our check :)

I liked this place and we had a good time. the tacos were good and the beer was good. We had the clam chowder too. I hate to say this. I have been to the Brigantine in point loma too and I thought the all thefood was better there, If you have a choice go to that one. If you don't this coronado one is still good. no worries.

We love coming here. This is always our first stop when we get in to Coronado. The prices are actually fairly reasonable and the service is always great. This last visit we ordered the coconut shrimp, clam chowder, crab and shrimp fondue, and house salads. It was all fantastic.

Let's just say the ferry ride was the best thing about going to this crappy restaurant. When I visit San Diego I won't ever go here again. I asked for a iced tea and all they had was cranberry and some other crap. I knew I was in the wrong place since I'm a Midwest boy so I got up and got out !

Thirsty Thursday = $2 off all drinks. But that's no reason to come. It's an old fogey place that smells like carpet and wood. There are few windows and nothing exciting on the menu. I mean, fried calamari and fried artichoke hearts? Did I just step back into the 70s? The food was just ok, but there are SO many better options in Coronado and many with views and better prices AND food. Skip it, unless you're 80 and can't walk far.

Love the atmosphere, love the food, love the location, love the service. Definitely a favorite spot to go with my fiance. Also, for weekend dinner, make a reservation. It bugs me when people complain about a restaurant being crowded...wake up and have some foresight. You're not going to walk in at dinner time and get a table instantly at a nice restaurant... I think the menu has changed a couple times recently.

Went there for the first time today because it's Taco Tuesday. Awesome Calamari Fish Tacos! I had a grilled fish taco and a calamari taco. Definitely go with the calamari taco! There were about 5 large chunks of calamari in the taco covered with the right amount of delicious sauce with cabbage and a few tomatoes. I wasn't as big of a fan of the grilled fish taco. The fish was fresh but it didn't have much taste to it, which upset me because of all that I had heard about the tacos. We went with a group of 20 people, we flooded the place at 1130 because you can't get reservations for Taco Tuesday(Taco deal available from 1130-1000 Pm, only in the BAR AND PATIO AREA). The service was phenomenal. Paying was a little bit of a pain, but in their defense there was a miscommunication regarding how we wanted the bills. They still did a great job. The ambiance is great, old school bar feel on the inside and nice Hotel Del Coronado view on the outside (with a good breeze). I highly recommend going to Brigantine!

Had a horrible experience there last week. The girl acting as hostess was confused and basically rude. We should have left right then. They sat us, we ordered appetizers and entrees immediately. The appetizers came cold and tasteless at best. We ended up waiting over an hour after ordering our entrée that came cold. We pushed the food away, immediately called the manager who blamed it on the kitchen then said we get our dinner for free. Nice since we did not eat a bite. My daughter was the only one to finish one fish taco and ended up sick the next day. Not good. We would never go back.

I didn't eat here but placed a very large take out order. Food was packed well and the bartender who took my order couldn't have been kinder BUT the food did not travel well and although it was a short drive from the restaurant to my hotel everything was fairly inedible. I wish I had been warned that it was not going to travel well because at hotels there is no reheating option and for what I spent I would have eaten there had i known. I will say the sauce with the calamari small dish was amazing. The tuna poke whatever it was called was just plain gross even though recommended by the bartender. I am sure this place is fine when you dine in but I don't recommend it for take out. However lets be honest the better food in San Diego certainly isn't found on the island.

Slightly above average food. Outstanding service. Prime location. You can tell it's part of a chain. Swordfish was good. Minor substitutions were accommodated with a smile. Decent cocktails. They took the artichoke fried things off the bill after we just said we didn't like them. They didn't do anything wrong with them, we just thought they tasted bad. The service was really great though so that goes far. Poke tacos we unique. Clever presentation. We'd go back. We'd probably order all different things.

Adventures around Coronado Island, specifically Hotel del Coronado, led me to this place. It was located practically across the street, which was a plus since I had grown restless from walking around at this point. The atmosphere here is classy, with its dim lighting, which is pretty nice. The food choices also go along that same theme. They have a wide array of seafood dishes, which i loved! It created quite the dilemma because I just couldn't choose what to eat. Finally I decided to order the cioppino, since I never tried the dish before. It turned out to be a large portion of a tomato soup filled with various kinds of seafood. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first time having cioppino but I wasn't disappointed. I will need to try it at some other places to have a better critique of the stew but I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys all types of seafood. The price was pretty good, considering all the ingredients comprising it. Also, the mojito I had was incredibly refreshing! I believe it was raspberry? I can't remember exactly but I do recall the waiter saying it was a popular choice. A great mint taste without being overpowering. The server was attentive and overall it was a pleasurable dining experience.

The Brigantine in Coronado is one of the best Brigantines! It's in a wonderful location, just across from the Hotel Del. We usually sit out on the patio area, which is a bit more casual and comfy. The dinner portions are large enough to share, even the delicious salads. When we go for brunch, I usually have the crab benedict, which comes with bottomless champagne. The service is always outstanding, whether we sit inside in the restaurant or out on the patio.

I went on a long weekend to Coronado, stayed at the Del and wanted a romantic dinner with my girlfriend. I read the good reviews of the Brigantine and had high expecations. I was not disappointed at all. Best Fish and service! Our server was young, but very experienced and friendly. We picked our fish from the menu but changed it completely after hearing the waiters recommendation. The price was reasonable for the quality of food. The two of us decided to go back sunday afternoon as we both like to watch sunday football. We ordered the fish tacos and calamari. I have to say, the fish tacos were out of this world, and the calamari was prepared sliced into long little steaks, breaded then fried. To be honest, some of the best calamari I've ever had hands down. If I lived here, I'd be hitting this place up on a regular basis.

Not even one star if i wanted to be fair, the server dropped the food left overs on my new born while cleaning the table and didn't say a sorry , she poured my drink on the table and never cleaned it, the way she dropped the menus on the table was unprofessional, not even a smile, a greeting, i'm not sure how comfortable she was dealing with us for being from a different race maybe... But for sure she was extremely careless. I was there on 12-17-13 2:45 pm and server didn't have a name tag, but she has a tattoo on her left wrist. I will never go there again, bad attitude bad service!

My wife and I went to Miguel's for lunched but were turned away because of a kitchen fire. That led us to drop by the Brigatine. I'm not sure why we didn't plan on going here as our primary, this place is awesome. We sat at a table in the bar area. There was plenty of room for a high chair and all of our daughter's stuff which is always a plus. We ordered a couple of seafood salads, which were well prepared and great. The half order was more than enough for each of us. I also order the wonton ahi poke tacos which is rare ahi tuna smothered in cabbage strips and wasabi sauce. These were friggin awesome! The whole meal cost us around 30 bucks which is reasonable for a place with an amazing view and great service. We'll definately be back.

Got the swordfish when I came here. We were treated to a special holiday lunch with our Finance Team members. Service was good. The food was delicious. They have a very good happy hour menu. The fish tacos are really good during happy hour and are quite large. Two of them will be enough to fill you up. Parking is rather tight and not a lot of spaces are available so you'll have to try and find street parking. We found a meter and it was only 50 cents for two hours?

Spent MLK weekend on Coronado with the family...we decided seafood was a good call, and chose Brigantine for our Saturday dinner. The restaurant is right smack in the middle of town saddled by similar restaurants and bars on both sides.... Called at 6 to check wait times, they said an hour...but were willing to make me a reservation at 7, I thought that was fair. So we showed up at 5 till, and were sat down almost immediately...packed house to say the least. Service was very friendly, the waiter knew the menu well...which had a solid variety. Drink menu was great...margaritas were very good! My bro in law ordered the mojito and said it was unique but very good...apparently they put pepper around the glass... Food was a solid 3.5 out of 5. I had the swordfish tacos which were nothing to write home about...but some of the other dishes appeared very good. What seemed to steal the show was the crab stuffed shrimp...apparently it came with the jalapeno creme sauce that is quite popular at Miguel's Cocina next door (same owner, I assume?) All in all, service and drinks bumped it from an overpriced 3 to an overpriced 4...I bet their happy hour kicks ass!

SUCH A DECLINE...I am not sure what has transpired but it was such a disappointment! We have been going there for Christas Eve for 24 years since my husband proposed there 24 years ago on Christmas Eve. We make our reservations tha first day they allow....but we were escorted to a table that is meant to be a 4 top that was set for four and host brought over a chair with no additional servings. When we complained he said, "sorry it is a busy night." We had a 5pm reservation!! We were the second table being seated!!!!! Waitress was awful, Chanel was her name. Did not know ingredients or have recommendations. When we asked what the vegetarian in our party could have she said..."mashed potatoes ?" We had to ask for specials which she had to read. She never told us soups. Food arrived at different times and halibut was ice cold. We ordered lobster (small portion over cooked and potatoes raw) steak which was ok not great, halibut, shrimp (still good) , another fish which wasn't good and the mashed potatoes. They no longer have soft shelled crab or some of our other favorites, we were crushed.....looks like we will try something new next year. The waitress attitude was such a disappointment, years past on Christmas Eve servers were happy and jolly. She clearly did not want to be working and should have stayed home. Makes me sad...wondering if our other faves by Cohn like Vintana and Beau Bo are heading south too???!!!

I had read mixed reviews of this restaurant but am so glad I trusted my instinct and tried it! A cozy seafood place with outstanding service (Amanda). Fish was delicious and well-prepared. Appetizers (clam chowder and Caesar salad) were yummy. Lots of menu choices (my son had onion rings and sliders) - so there's something for everyone. Would definitely recommend this Coronado eatery!

This is my second favorite place in San Diego to dine. I have been there three times. This place is really cool! Reasons to go: 1) Affordable, quality, tasty seafood 2) Wait staff has been great both times; prompt, friendly, on point 3) The location at Coronado is excellent! You can hit the property of the Del with a 9-iron 4) The menu selection has seafood staples and is also creative. 5) The draft beer selection was descent and fairly priced for the island 6) Great time in a date setting with my wife and later at a family gathering with a bigger party 7) It is part of a larger collection of restaurants like Miguel's. Groupon and coupons usually go for the whole chain which is cool. 8) Awesome atmosphere! Dark wood furniture and seafaring look reminding the customer of an old, old wooden ship Reasons to avoid: 1) Parking is an issue especially on the weekends. I have parked down the street behind the Brigantine and walked to it 2) I don't have children but it did not seem kid friendly 3) Some of there menu options seem pricey for what you get

We were enjoying the day in Coronado when we discovered this fabulous restaurant. The decor is very dated, the kind of place your grandparents would take you to when you were a kid. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The only entree's we ordered were Fish Taco's, and it came with two side dishes. The fish taco's were very fresh and the tortilla's had great flavor. Our waitress suggested we try the homemade Hot Stuff sauce on the fish taco's. It was so delicious we ended up buying a bottle to take home.

I'm a big fan of this Brig. I work a lot on Coronado and love coming by here. Lots of wood and glass, bright and airy. Great lunch at the bar if you're solo. The bartenders are attentive and patient. My favorite things here are the Shrimp & Crab Louie (1/2 portion is plenty) and the artichoke fritters - yumm! I've had the clam chowder twice - once it was very good, the other time fair to good. My sis likes the Fish & Chips.

We were in town for the MCRD graduation, and happened to ask for a recommendation at the car rental counter. We are very glad we followed the recommendation. The drive to Point Loma was easy, the restaurant was easy to find, and the setting was enjoyable, allowing us to walk the beach both before and after our dinner, with shopping sandwiched in between. We had such a good time here that it would be hard to say which was better, the food or the service. From the cucumber muddled gin and tonic to the vanilla creme brulle, we ran out of superlatives. The least tasty item was the fish and chips. The best? Tuna poke wonton tacos got two votes, but so did the bacon bleu cheese potato salad and house made chips. I never expected I would order two potato based sides for a single meal...and two of us did the same thing. If you are looking for a taste of San Diego, forget Old Town, and make the drive to the Brigantine. You will be glad you did.

This is probably one of the better options for eating in Coronado. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The menu is somewhat diverse so you can find something for everyone. They also have a decent happy hour menu. I had a steak and some oysters for dinner. I like that you can order oysters individually and I think they are only $2 each or so. Mine were shucked properly and they were actually quality oysters, I think Malpeque on that day, not the crappy farmed ones or the jumbo pacifics. The steak was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy. My wife had a seafood cobb. It was very good except that it came with some sort of vinaigrette. We should have read the menu more carefully. I would have ordered it with blue cheese on the side. The service was friendly and attentive. The parking is somewhat of an issue. They have a small lot or you'll have to get lucky and find something on the street.

Selected as the location for a large group of coworkers, Brigantine is a nice place. They have a pretty extensive menu, with lots of different seafood options, plus several different daily specials. The place was pretty full when we arrived, and our large group - maybe 16 people - didn't help things. We started with a handful of appetizers. Their calamari was strips, not the rings/tentacles I'm used to, and to be honest, it just wasn't very good. I think ours was a little over friend, but it reminded me of clam strips. Not much calamari flavor. On the other hand, their crab cake was pretty good. Lots of nice sweet crab, not too much binder - all in all pretty good. I also sampled some "artichoke poppers" which were basically just deep friend artichokes with some sour cream filling...and they were unremarkable. My entree was their on-menu marinated swordfish, which was quite good. The steak was very thick, tender and moist, with good flavor and a delicious marinade, plus a little melted wasabi butter on top. This came with some nice sauteed veggies, and also..."lemon risotto" which was actually dry, short grain rice, and a small cup of lemon butter whatnot to drizzle on it. So far from risotto...Brigantine has inspired me to finally create a list of places that don't appear to know what risotto is. It's a shame really, as the fish was good, and it was really let down by that side. No one had dessert as we were all stuffed, but our service was reasonable, especially for a very large group. I have no idea what the bill was, but entrees didn't seem out of line for your average "fine seafood" restaurant. I would say this is honestly right at that 3.5 star line. Had the risotto been, you know, risotto, I'd probably make this a 4.

The Brigantine has great food, old school county club atmosphere and bad service. Most of the wait staff are high school and collage girls that are to busy gossiping then waiting on tables. Our waitress forgot one of the meals and then it took her about ten minutes to get it to us. Beyond the not so good service we do love this restaurant and visit on a regular basis. My wife enjoys the early bird spacial that comes with drink, salad or soup, main entree, and desert for a great price. If you like wine don't miss Wine Wednesday 1/2 Off Wine Bottles for Happy hour cant beat that. The restaurant is in a great location usually after dinner we take a walk around the historic Hotel Del which is across the street. Over all the restaurant does a good job and is enjoyable..

I live locally and eat here often. The food is consistently good, the drinks are always strong (great margaritas), and the device is always prompt, even when it's busy. 90%of the time we eat at the bar. It's a great environment and it has plenty of table. The fish tacos are the best!

Best filet mignon I've ever had. I've had it probably 25 times over the last 5 years, and it's always good. Their Jack Daniels peppercorn sauce and chive truffle fries are perfect. Everywhere I go, I always compare their steak to the Brigantine's, and it's never as good. Their cobb salad is also good, as are their grilled fish tacos and shrimp and scallop skewers (though I think those are no longer on the menu). The Brigantine is not cheap, but they are worth it. I'd be a regular if I was one of the many disgustingly rich Coronado residents.

You must try the artichoke fritters here! They were the highlight of the meal. Located in a nice area of Coronado. Service was attentive and it has a dark ambiance similar to being on a ship. This chain of restaurants is one of my parents' favorites.

Pretty decent restaurant. The food was delicious. We had the swordfish and stuffed prawns. We didn't like the seating, you are sat at a table for 4 and you basically sit next to the table across from you. Wasn't a private dining experience. Nothing against this restaurant but next time we're in Coronado, we'll try somewhere else.

Server recommended the swordfish, which is apparently what they're known for. Small portion and slightly undercooked.

Delicious seafood and excellent service! I took my fiancé here for his birthday and they didn't disappoint. If you have a sweet tooth get the mud pie which melts in your mouth!

My wife and I sat at the bar and had really good service from the waitress. I had the swordfish fish tacos which were excellent!! My wife had the spinach stuffed mushrooms and a salad and both were very good. Drinks were very good and overall a very good experience. The atmosphere was great as well. I would go back for some more fish tacos for sure!

Stopped here during our trolley tour stop of Coronado. We ordered a fish sandwich and crab and shrimp fondue. Very pleased with the service, freshness of food and the price. I was also celebrating my birthday our awesome server treated me to a piece of fabulous mud pie!

My husband ate sword fish and I ate chicken wrap, both were really delicious, we came back again four days later, It was happy hour than and all the appetizers were great. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy food in Coronado.

The waiters are nice. The wait was a little too long compared to other Brigantine's; they weren't very busy at the time. The food was good per usual. I would give it a 4 for food, but the whole experience is a 3. (I would give it a 3.5 but that option isn't available.

Two thumbs up for Brigantine. Came here to celebrate my fiances birthday and we were not disappointed. The crab and shrimp dip was DELICIOUS. If I had to pick my last supper, it would be 5 orders of crab and shrimp dip. I had the halibut special which was done dore style which was delicious- and affordable for local halibut . & my carnivorous significant other had the rib eye which he said was one of the best he's ever had. Excited to try out the happy hour here, looks like one of the best in the neighborhood!

Good restaurant with nice ambiance, kind of relaxing atmosphere. The service was friendly and very helpful. I had fried artichokes appetizer and scallops in a bed of mashed potates and the latter dish was really wonderfully cooked to perfection. Very tasty. Good chef.

Enjoyed the wedge/bacon/tomato salad before tackling the Fish Tacos. Not only are the fish tacos outstanding, but house made potato chips are also delicious. Wonderful on the drag place to eat when in Coronado.

  • John B.

The first item out, the Coctel del Mar, was inedible. The shrimp had no flavor and the crabmeat was stringy. The spicy tomato-lime marinade was in fact thin, watery and tasteless. The caesar salad was okay, at least until the waiter covered the salad with whole peppercorns from a faulty pepper grinder in an attempt to provide "cracked" pepper. The parmesan crusted sautéed sand dabs didn't have a lot of flavor, nor did the brussels sprouts. The seafood combo (batter-fried scallops, shrimp, clams & white fish fillet) was pretty average fried seafood. No prime rib any more. That used to be a "star".

  • Brooke M.

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant! We had the artichoke dip for an appetizer and it was so good. I had lots of questions about the food because I'm a vegetarian and the waiter tried his best to answer every single question! I had a margarita and it was delicious. Would definitely go back.

Great Place & Great Food !!! This place is like Cheers, half the people that work, or have worked here I went to school with and are locals... (not always a good thing, lol) Anyhow, I'm NOT biased at all, (notice 4, not 5). Service is usually Great ! Their newer Happy Hour is a great improvement too. Must stop by if you are in town !

I don't like to write bad reviews ever... however this one is well deserved. I go out with a group of friends every tuesday. This time we went to this place. We made a reservation and we explained that we wanted to try their taco Tuesday deals. The person taking the reservation was very pleasant but fail to tell us that they don't do reservations for specials at the restaurant. Now I know we had to go to the bar area. When we arrived we took the table we told the hostesses we where there for taco tus day and they said yes you can get it here..., the first server we got was a bit rude and said "there is no way you guys will get the taco Tuesday here" I requested to speak with the manager and he said. "There is no use for you to talk to him, he will say no!" I told him he shouldn't have a manager in the house if he already knows how to think for management. Also in a rude way because I didn't like his attitude. I must say I work in the industry and I am in charge of customer service for 28 years. When the manager Mark arrive to our table, I began to explain the situation and also complaint about the rudeness of the server... manager didn't seem to care for the servers rudeness. I asked him to give us a table in the bar, he told me I was lucky because there was a table who just got up and he will accommodate us. OK we got happy again and had drinks, order food. They use really bad tortillas on their tacos, the meat and fish are good but the whole taco experience was terribly wrong! You guys have to re-do your recipes. than... The Bill came. The server, a nice Hispanic young man who somewhat treated us good happen to overcharged us $60.00 dollars. .. really? How long have you work there? After this I started questioning everything on the bill and they didn't like that. At this point I don't care. We paid the bill, left more than 20% tip, since we are not bad guests. And we have way more class than them according to how they made us feel. In short... I do not recommend this place and I won't go there again. We might be a small group, sometimes we are 10, some times less I guess they have such good business they don't care to loose some here and there. So there it is... my first bad yelp and it doesn't feel good at all. I rather not have any bad vibes in my path. Good luck to this place and I hope you retrain your people. I truly wish you fix this things and I wish success to you.

We live in Del Mar and frequent the location by the fair grounds but found ourselves looking for a tasty lunch down in Coronado. We walked the strip and nothing really looked great so we figured why not try this other location out. Turns out not only are the fish tacos as tasty as always but they actually had a more substantial lunch menu which included some tasty salads. Love this place and will most definitely be back.

Another visit, and another great experience! This time for happy hour on my own. I LOVE the option to order only how many oysters you want. That alone will keep me coming back forever. The fish taco was very good!

My wife and I came for happy hour eats after spending a Monday afternoon at Coronado Beach since Brigantine is right across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. My wife liked that they have a spinach salad on the HH menu, and she said it was pretty good. We also enjoyed the mushroom Rockefeller and fish taco. The clam chowder and French dip (not on the HH menu) were ok.

Read the reviews sounded mostly good. I strolled in for a meal and apparently missed lunch. It's almost 3 when i started this review, it's 4:15 now. I showed up.hungry! The young lady at the door writing the specials onto a board was very pleasant and beautiful smile that's why I came in. And 1/2 off bottles of wine on Wednesdays I picked up on straight away. A lot of No, we can't...that section is closed...no smiles anywhere. Not even the bartender. Not even....even....the manager looking man. Kyle saved me. I had a bottle of cakebread (splurge...considered it my dessert.) He was polite nice and gave a great suggestion on the house salad which he suggested adding blackened shrimp. Very unique salad with cranberries, walnuts blue cheese, hearts of palm. Really good. I also had the mussels before the salad. (I just didn't know if I'd be staying around). They were tasty but very small. I'm rating lower this restaurant on customer service for almost the entire staff but Kyle. The feel of the place. I would give it a 5 otherwise. Customers don't look or sound happy. Corked the wine to take back to my hotel room. Maybe "my bad" for arriving hungry at almost 3:/. But I arrived for a meal. Time difference from home. Thanks again Kyle Sounds like the staff .....is warming up now, maybe a shift change, happy hour, someone is out sick? Bartender is warming up now too. Cool

Was heading towards the beach after finding parking, however with Brigantine's sign outside mentioning about oysters for $2 my fiancee' and I decided to drop by. This was my first time at this location in Coronado. There is another located in Escondido which I've been to for their tacos and clam chowder. We had decided to hangout at the bar to grab a quick bite and a couple of drinks. Atmosphere: Brigantine has that ambiance feel as if you're on boat and pier dock. With plenty of decor to compliment. Plenty of bar seating and tables. The layout is like a maze and can feel a little claustrophobic. Service: Since we were in for a quick bite and a couple drinks we were promptly seated at the bar. An older bartender was friendly, no complaints and others were very helpful. Food: Oysters $2 ordered $6 to try. Bluepoint oysters on a half shelf. fresh tasting quality. well worth it. Clam Chowder: one of the best. not watery. a perfect portion of clams and potatoes. my fiancee' was impressed. Although wish the portion could be bigger. felt like the a cup portion in a big bowl. Drinks: -Island Mule $7 - if you like sweet drinks this is for you. has a tropical taste and heavy syrupy finish. -Lychee Martini - $12 hefty poor of grey goose and lychee. very strong with a hint of lychee -Cherry Orange Lemonade - refreshing Overall: a nice first time experience during a busy weekend. great bartenders. friendly service. good food and drinks. will drop by again if in the area for oysters and to try more items.

This place is AWESOME! I came here today with a group of downtown residents/ frequenters and we all left wondering why we don't brunch on Coronado more often! Bottomless mimosa for $3, food was AMAZING and our server, Lauren was exceptional! Never was there a moment where or flutes were empty! We WILL be back! Thanks Lauren

Brigantine...oh you have a star extra than you should have because of the service (and service staff). Seafood has never been cheap in any restaurant in San Diego, from Oceanaire (which is high end) to Fish Market. Brigantine falls somewhere in between with ample selections of seafood. Our friends visiting from Florida has checked out the Yelp reviews and I admitted that I have never been. I expected the high pricing for the seafood entrees which without drinks added for 5 people was not too bad. Not everybody had a starter but most everybody ate an entree. I was not really expecting low prices but wanted a great food experience. But when it came to the dishes we had, my group had a mixed reaction. One had the halibut (a bit dry for his taste), another had scallops (bay) and it was just average. Two had fish and chips and both enjoyed this delightful combo. I had the prawns which I would say was good not excellent. For dessert we had creme brulee and toffee cake. Both were fine. I had hoped that following the higher rating for this place would have been a good surprise for our visitors. Having stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado, they already had a sticker price shock on any standard meal there. So despite the pricing, all we wanted was to be impressed by the meal. Would I return, maybe but I would not go out of my way to visit the place.

We had a very enjoyable meal here. We started at the bar while we waited for a table. They had a happy hour special on certain drinks; beer and wine. A lot of locals came in for drinks. Once we were seated, a decent crowd started to build. Service was good and the timing on drinks and food was spot on. The fish n chips I had were really good. We were seated in a big comfortable booth. They have a lot just next door with free parking, but it fills up fast. I got lucky and someone left as I was driving through. All in all, a great experience.

Family of 6, we stayed at The Del so was very convenient, short walk to say the least. We ate here in Summer of 2012, loved it then so let's go with what we know correct? Well, while the food was excellent, our server must have been having a bad night, she continually rushed us to take our order, kept looking over her shoulder when we were talking to her, no smiles, just "Hurry up so I can go home looks". Guess you could say the 2nd time around was disappointing in terms of service. Probably will not come back here again, food is good, service was horrible this time around so will try a new place next time. My suggestion, if you're staying at The Del, great convenience, very good food but I cannot put my name on a recommendation when the service is this bad. Who knows, could have just been this ONE server and she could have been having a bad night, it happens, I understand, but leaves a sour taste and opinion especially when you are spending top-dollar for such a nice dinner.

We came here for dinner one night and had a really nice experience. We had cocktails and a glass of wine all were good. Their lobster and crab fondue was fantastic! I had the pan roasted diver scallops, they were good but a little on the sweet side for me. I prefer a salty dish. My husband had oysters and swordfish and he loved it!

Not sure why we hadn't eaten here before, but have gone the last two years now and glad we went. Seemed like a lot of locals, which is a good sign. Service was very good and so was the food. Everyone in our party ate their entire plate of food. We had the fish and chips, blackened mahi mahi, chicken picatta, crab-stuffed bacon wrapped jumbo prawns and crab and shrimp fondue. Could've had more options for sides, and the seasonal veggies that were supposed to be carrots, green beans and squash came out just green beans. Nice atmosphere and one of the larger places on the island. Oh, and Wine Wednesdays - 1/2 off bottles! We'll see you next year!

Slower than normal service today, must be the spring break lunch rush or something. This place has always been overrated in my opinion, but it kept me from getting hangry and mean..... Wife says the fish is too small for the sandwich. If you are on a whole 30 type of diet where you aren't supposed to have any sugar or sweeteners, be very clear to them what your requirements are. The shrimp cocktail had sugar in it as did the slaw, that came with the sashimi. Not a deal breaker, just FYI

Great top sirloin, decent appetizers, decent drinks, would probably give this place 5 stars if I was able to catch their happy hour and talk more about that! The tacos looked delicious. Came here with my family and we had a great time. They were able to seat the 10 of us without a wait right as dinner was starting. Lobster and crab fondue - yummy, but only order this if you have enough people to eat it because unless you like drinking cream cheese, you'll probably get tired of it. Fish and chips - good and I got it with the halibut, don't think it was worth the upgrade-I couldn't tell the difference. Coconut shrimp - I was more into the salad and sauce than the shrimp Mussels - pretty yummy with a nice kick Oysters rockafella gansta shit - rather get raw oysters. WHY DIDNT WE GET RAW OYSTERS Sirloin steak - yummy and fatty Salmon special of the day - MEH Desserts? I'd go with mud pie. Was curious to try their creme brûlée, but didn't have room. Service was pretty good, you could tell the waiter was a little slammed, but we we're left hanging or anything. Chris was awesome. My sierra mist tasted really weird-like cherries, but it was good!

This place was okay. Would not have gone in normally after seeing the menu or the layout, but it was my friend's birthday and it's her favorite place for lobster in Coronado. I do have to say the Wok-Char Ahi was very good. Service was decent. That's all...

My wife and I ate there on a Monday night. Happy hour lasts til closing on Mondays and the spacious bar was packed. We came for dinner and we're not aware of the happy hour opportunity that we missed. The ambiance is warm, but we found the booths facing each other off putting. The service was friendly and very attentive without being smothering. Now on to the food. Their signature dish is grilled swordfish. overall it was very good, although the portion was undersized (perfect size for lunch). The picture is representative of what you will receive. I'm not sure why the herb butter on the the top was not melting when my plate arrived. The fish was sufficiently warm/hot. Had the butter come from the freezer? The flavor and texture of the fish was very good. The side dishes had been "scooped " from their preparation bowls. No attempt had been made to disguise the scoop. It's too bad because an upscale restaurant should do a better job of plate preparation. I'll put this oversight off to the kitchen needing to feed the hungry hoards in the bar. My wife had the sole piccata. She felt it was mediocre. The sole should have been moist and flakey. It was over cooked. With 1-1/2 glasses of wine each and a decent tip, we still got out for about $100.

Came here for "Taco Tuesday!" It was a nice atmosphere, great tacos! The clam chowder soup was good! The oysters were good. Next time I will order only the Oysters from Maryland. The other two options where either too slimy or two chewy. The Margaritas were just ok. I think the $3 fish tacos are worth the 4 stars!

This is the best restaurant of the Brigantine chain. Dark wooden walls, even darker carpeted flooring, this all reminds me of either Black Angus, or one of the tourist trap seaport village restaurants. In any case, if you're in a pinch in Coronado this is a pretty good choice. What was really nice was their offering of a pre fix menu. A decent appetizer ( choice of soup, salad, shrimp, etc), a main, and a dessert for around 20-something. For a nice sit down seafood restaurant you really can't beat that deal, especially in Coronado. Was the fish the best? No, but the whole meal was nice. - Waitress was a bit pushy on the up-sells and email program sign-up. - Lots of drunk silver haired Coronado residents in the bar. - Cheap on the bread.

My first time to go to the Brigantine in Coronado and I loved it! I am not easy to please when I go to testaurants, but tonight was pleasing surprise. I ordered the Prawns and Grits. It was delicious! My friend had the Macademia crusted Mahi Mahi, also was awesome. The service was excelent, even the manager came out to ask if everything was okay. That's the first time I had a manager come to my table and ask how the food was. I defenitely recommend this place.

Mediocre food. This feel like an old restaurant that continues to keep business based on a history of good food, but has long ago lost their good chef and now serves up mediocre food at premium prices. My ribeye was blah, my wife's scallops: blah, the calamari: double blah. Felt like a huge waste of and time. Seems to be popular with and older crowd. Our waiter provided excellent service.

This place deserves zero stars. DO NOT GO!!!! My husband and I went in between lunch and dinner with our small child. To attempt to not bother the bar guests, we asked to be seated in the dining room . The hostess did not even check for us if there was seats in bar and or patio!!!! So so so so lazy!!!!!! To top it off, the patio smelled like cigarettes. Never ever ever going back!!!! A shame because we liked this place.

poor tired restaurant, it needs massive up dates, not quaint just old and worn. we ordered the crab and shrimp salad for lunch, which was large but lacking crab. the waiter did bring more crab(very little) and some shrimp at our request which did make it better. I guess you have to expect this type of fare at a tourist location. the sister brigantine restaurant in shelter island is much better.

In a constant mission to eat everything and everywhere when vacationing, we stopped at Brigantine for some seafood-centric happy hour specials! Between the two uf us, we split: $8 happy hour shakers - these pre-mixed drinks come served in large tumblers and easily poured out two full glasses. Ceviche - our "quality over quantity" selection, this was a good addition to our food flight, leaving plenty of room for the rest! Swordfish tacos - these were a little bit too fried for my taste, but the batter was pretexts tasty. Ranch, cheddar, and pico de gallo rounded out the accompaniments. Crispy soft shell crab BLT - this was the best thing we ordered...delicious! The food here was good, and certainly made better since it was just about half-price during happy hour, and the friendly service (thanks Adam!), outdoor seating, and on-site parking sweeten the deal! If you're hankering for some seafood in Coronado, Brigantine is your best (and for now, your only) bet. . Side note - We found out that they have their own on-site parking lot, and my friend Lisa wanted to move her car out of our metered spot to take advantage. She wanted me to walk with her, and our server had no problem literally letting us both leave mid-meal to move the car. I left my iPhone behind as collateral for the unpaid check, but that was a cool gesture nonetheless...thanks!

We come to the Brig every year from AZ. This time it was very disappointing where I don't think we will go back. The steak had no flavor and was really bad. My wife's halibut also lacked flavor and we sent it back. My lobster was way over cooked. The only good thing was that their wine bottles are 1/2 off on Wednesday. Oh, the oysters and clam chowder was amazing. This is a one star but the chowder and oysters were good. Entrees were very disappointing.

Last night (New Years Eve) was the first time I have ever been to this restaurant, and hopefully not the last. I called early on in the day to see if I could make a reservation and was told I couldn't. So when my companion and I arrived at 9pm I feared that we wouldn't be able to get a table. As soon as we walked in, the hostess said it was open seating so we chose to sit at the bar so we could watch the New Years Eve special on the television. The bartender took our drink order (pint of Yellowtail and a Bloody Mary) and placed our drinks down on the bar within five minutes. We then ordered the Crab & Shrimp Fondue and the Oysters Rock to start off with. Our appetizers came out within ten minuted of ordering. The Crab & Shrimp Fondue was incredible! It was served with sliced garlic bread that you can dip into the fondue. The Crab & Shrimp Fondue was very delicious and very filling. The Oysters Rock consisted of six of so wonderful oysters that were baked with spinach, bacon parmesan and pernod. After we finished the appetizers we ordered two tacos (one taco each) and four oysters on the half (two oyster each). I ordered the Calamari Taco, and my companion ordered the Grilled Fish Taco. When our food came out we sadly only received two oysters on the half because they ran out of the other type of oyster I was offered by the bartender. The tacos were a good size for being so cheap (Taco Tuesday Deal). My calamari was somewhat tougher than normal, but it wasn't awful. The Grilled Fish Taco was "pretty great!" according to my companion. We also ordered two glasses of Sparkling White Wine towards the end of our meal which was very good. When we got the check I stupidly didn't go over it and set my cash down for one of the bartenders to ring us up. It wasn't until I received my change that I realized that we were charged for four oysters when we only received two. I wasn't about to cause a scene over $4.00 so I let it slide. We tipped our bartender/server and left around 10:30pm with both of the bartenders saying goodbye to us and wishing us a Happy New Year. Overall, the food was great and the service was great especially for it being New Years Eve! I will definitely choose to come here again the next time I am in Coronado.

Some of the greatest food I've had in a long time. Arrived had drinks at the bar while waiting, great service there. Once seated the waitress was awful, the kind that look at you like every moment you are wasting their time. She was slow and not attentive at all. This is the only reason for the "4 star" rating.

  • CD E.

Low quality, overpriced seafood. While I enioy the rustic atmosphere I would appreciate a new carpet and a good dusting. Hygiene is questionable amongst the workers, and my server was more than distracted. On my way to the bathrooms, which were very clean, I noticed a lot of black mold in the ice machines and yellow mold running down the wall. The building should be condemned but the patio section is pretty nice, if you don't mind listening to traffic.

Just came in for lunch over the weekend and enjoyed the clam chowder, shrimp cocktail and a delicious Brig house salad. All three hit the spot and was exactly what I was craving. The avocado tacos (husband gets fish) are really yummy. We only like the bar menu ... and sitting in the bar room too. The bar staff are great, super friendly. We go once or twice a month at most and we always enjoy the beer and tacos. I wish there were more options on the menu so I can try something else, that's the reason for 3 stars.

Been here for the past 7 years. Usually great. Ordered a filet mignon. Always around a 12 oz steak. This year same price $32. But 5 oz steaks. Very disappointing. I will find a new place. Bad management!!!

This place kind of surprised me. I was not expecting them to be as great as I have heard. But to my surprise they actually where. The food was VERY good. I ordered the pork belly and man was this great. Everything was nice and I would recommend coming to this lace for their happy hour. The price is high and you could actually go to Chez Loma (which is the next block over) for food that is far more superior and just a little more pricy. But as for what they offer of happy hour this is a must go to stop, and that what I would do next time I attend one of these places.

My friend and I are on a girls weekend vacation. We had the fish tacos which were phenomenal, $3.00 bottomless champagne and it was all fantastic with great service. We will be coming back for brunch tomorrow! You've got to try this place! The deal can't be beat.

The Brigantine is a local family-owned chain of 7 restaurants in San Diego County. The Coronado location is perhaps my favorite due to the proximity to the beach and the Hotel Del. The Happy Hour menu (available everyday except Saturday) is excellent value. Menu items I've had at this location include: Grilled House Oysters ($8) - this small ass-kicking appetizer features 3 oysters drenched in melted shallot-shoyu butter covered with chow mein-like wonton strips. Despite the butter, these go down cleaner and with more purpose than traditional New Orleans-style charbroiled/grilled oysters found elsewhere. People love The Brig's fish tacos (deservedly so), but the grilled oysters shouldn't be overlooked. Fish Taco ($3 each during happy hour) - The Brig's gringo-style fish tacos are really damn good. I opted for the grilled pollock, and got a large chunk of perfectly-cooked fresh fish with tomatoes, onions, red cabbage, and mild cheddar cheese in corn tortilla. If you like the tacos at South Beach Grill in OB, you'll also enjoy these, as they're very similar. Clam Chowder ($4.25 per bowl during happy hour) - The Brig unfortunately serves a prime example of what clam chowder shouldn't be: thick and roux-y. Flavor is acceptable, but the texture is wrong for this Massachusetts-raised chowdah-head. Because the soup is over-burdened with flour and butter, the actual clams themselves do not have a discernible voice in this dish. Pescetarians beware: The Brig's clam chowder contains salt pork (though I'd argue that this is one of the things they got right). Calamari Strips ($6.25 during happy hour) - this is another so-so plate. While I liked that these were not traditional calamari rings, I was not a fan of the accompanying ketchup-y cocktail sauce or the disappointingly bland jalapeño cream sauce. Also, the calamari could have been any generic sea-meat. I suppose the mild flavor of calamari is why it is so popular, but here the texture is also lost due to the thickness of the dark cornmeal batter. My recommendation is that you come here for a few bites because you're already in Coronado during happy hour, not because you want the "the best seafood in San Diego," "best fish taco," or other hyperbole that occasionally is associated with this place. If you keep your expectations in check and order wisely, you'll be rewarded with a pleasant and affordable dining experience.

Sand dabs! Wow. I am not a huge fan of fish from the flounder family but our waitress really sold me on this. I actually did not know what a sand dab was so I asked and I am all for trying new things! The food was great and well seasoned in a Parmesan butter crust but I did find the sides and the choices that I had to choose from a little limited. For such a unique food choice I would think there'd be more of a interesting or unique side dish to go along with it. Also, highly recommended the bloodymary!

When walking down Orange Ave, this place had people waiting outside and down the sidewalk! We up tournament down and were seated in 10 minutes. Our hostess Jess, was the quintessential California girl. My kids LOVED the clam chowder! My wife and I shared the lobster and crab salad and rib-eye- more than enough to share. They even split the courses for us! Kudos for being thoughtful and attentive. We will be back the next time we cost the island again!

I've heard good things about this place, and when paired with my experiences at Miguel's (owned by the same company/family), I thought for sure that I was going to be in for a good time. I sat at the bar with a friend of mine on a weekend afternoon, wasn't too crowded. We were promptly greeted and taken care of by a very lovely bartender, and she was quick to get us some waters while checking out the menu. So far, so good! I ended up getting a beer as well, and shortly after reviewing the menus, we placed our order. The atmosphere is nice, and somewhat nautical (expected). And after a short wait, the food arrived. This is where things went south, fast... Since it was our first time there, and because we weren't too hungry, we decided to check out the New England clam chowder and the Napa Valley Nachos. While I hate to call anything straight up "bad" when it comes to eating out, there's nothing else I can say to best describe what was served to me. Considering we were eating at a seafood place, I was stoked to get some fresh clam chowder, but I ended up getting a full serving of disappointment. All joking aside, I've experienced a lot better out of a can, and I would be totally shocked if that wasn't where my soup originated. Bland as it was, the taste and consistency of the soup was more like potato soup mixed with gravy, and then left to congeal a little. It was really, really bad. *DISCLAIMER* When it comes to the "Napa Valley Nachos," I have to admit that I only vaguely skimmed over the description on the menu, seeing things like chicken, sour cream, etc. Now, had I taken the time to fully read the description, there is no way I would have ever ordered them due to the horrific combination of stuff they throw in there. Upon arrival, we quickly saw that the "nachos" were not nachos at all, but what appeared to be homemade potato chips (why even call them nachos?). Despite this, they looked halfway decent, so we dove it. Big mistake. Another thing I missed in the description was that it was bleu cheese, and even though I like bleu cheese, it doesn't go with everything. This dish is one of those things with which it does not go, and I had a hard time getting the taste out of my mouth once I had that first big bite, was way too salty. Making matters worse was the blob of sour cream that may or may not have been chipped out of its previous container (okay, now I'm just being dramatic). But seriously, the sour cream was more like a white, chalky jello than a sour cream; there was nothing creamy or remotely "fresh" about it. The bartender noticed the soup still left in the container and concluded that we didn't care for it, so without even asking, she took it off the bill. And then when she asked how the nachos were, I didn't have the heart to tell her that they sucked, too. Overall, it's a nice place in a great location and has a wonderful, top-notch staff. But the food was pretty bad, definitely to the point where I can't ever see myself going back, and that's the only reason I couldn't give this review any more than 2 stars. p.s. the bread was good

Came here with my husband and 9 month old son on a Saturday afternoon at 1230. Surprisingly, it was pretty empty. Was seated right away. I hate how they seat you in the most awkward table in the middle of the dining room when there's tons of great tables open along the windows... I've never understood that... Service was Ok. Food was good. I had fish tacos. Great size. Fresh. French fries were terrible. Tasted uncooked and not seasoned at all. Vegetables were ok. My husband had the steak sandwich (one of the most expensive lunch items). Blah. Bland, no good. He didn't even finish it... Waitress was sweet and attentive. I'm sure we will go back again someday. Overall: nothing special. Side note: prefer dinner here over lunch. PS. Try the fish tacos.

Ate here twice in 4 nights. Food is excellent and service is solid as well. I don't really like fish, but the rib eye was very good. My wife had some prawns and loved them.

Nothing to write home about, but I'll write to my fellow Yelpers. The ambience is stuffy, it would be great if there was outside seating. The servers were sweet, attentive and accommodating. The Bloody Mary was big and spicy. I got the chicken picatta And substituted it for salmon. The grilled veggies were long pieces of carrots and green beans, amazing! Artichokes were perfect. The salmon was bland, but the sauce made up for it entirely. Overall okay place, I've had better..

Hard to beat the convenient location, which is close to the beach. Pretty interior. Staff has always been very attentive & polite each time we've visited. Hamburgers, salads, taco Tuesday's, and seafood entrees are 'average'... as are most dining options on the Island. Convenience on vacation is the draw, which keeps us coming back.

I love the Brig, whether it be the one in La Mesa, Coronado or Del Mar. Their fish tacos are delicious, well packed, and always enjoyed. Clam chowder, yum, yum, yum. Fresh baked bread, so yum. Crab cake is for sure my fav...so much crab!

I was really hoping the Brigantine in Coronado would match our experience at the Point Loma and Del Mar locations. But unfortunately it did not. After spending the day hanging out at the beach, we selected the Brigantine because I was craving calamari and the delicious jalapeno white sauce that comes with it. The jalapeno white sauce is one of my favorite dipping sauces. It's basically butter, sour cream, cheese, and minced jalapeno mixed together to create this wonder of a dip. It's ironic that the dish we initially came here for was our least favorite. The calamari was rings and tentacles instead of steak strips (either one is fine with me, though I remember having steak strips at the other two locations). The calamari was definitely fried too long because it was extra chewy and tough. The jalapeno white sauce was more chalky than creamy. I have had much better calamari and jalapeno white sauce at the other two locations so I was definitely disappointed. My wife had the marinated swordfish which was topped with a delicious avocado butter. Swordfish is really tough to grill, but this one came out tender and moist thanks to the ginger soy like marinade they used. As sides, she chose the rice pilaf and the bacon blue cheese potato salad. Both were excellent, but I thought the bacon blue cheese potato salad was better because it was stuffed with the perfect amount of blue cheese and bacon. I have to say bacon just makes everything better! The ahi tartare was the other dish we really enjoyed. It's three large and crispy wontons with generous portions of diced ahi, avocado, mango, etc. piled on top. All the ingredients were really fresh and delicious. To add even more flavor to the ahi tartare, they spread some ginger and lime sauce across the plate. Needless to say, the ahi tartare was a winner for me. Really enjoyed every bite! A quick note on the service. I was fine with the overall service we were provided, but the only thing I did not like was that the waitress was trying to talk us into other dishes and failed to mention that these other dishes were more expensive than the ones were planning on selecting. I do not mind spending more if it is a better dish, but at least mention it. I have not experienced this at the other two locations. If my craving for calamari and jalapeno white sauce hits again while I'm on Coronado, then I think I would opt to drive to the Point Loma or Del Mar location instead to satisfy this craving. Overall our experience here was A-Ok! (Yelp translation for three stars).

They have a gluten free menu. Best of all, Heather our server knew of other menu items that could be made gluten free for my wife. She loved the additional options and chose one that Heather offered, which is one of her favorite dished. No problems and no cross contamination. I had one of their fish specials and it was fantastic. Great service, food and prices.

LOVE this place. Laguna oysters are amazing and so is the ahi starter. Good prices, good service. Except the hostesses. They never seem to care. Everyone I bring with me has a great experience. And of course, walking around Coronado after a great meal is always a joy.

Pricey for what you get. Nothing to brag about food or service. Recommended by Navy Lodge, we we're sorely disappointed. The Islander has better fish & Bluewater seafood Grill was the best food, service, ambience & experience we had all week on Coronado!!!

Went for dinner with family group of 6 Sunday night. Right in heart of main strip on Coronado. Parking available in private lot, always a plus. Old school feel and big bar. Nice well rounded menu. Had the seafood combo with shrimp, scallops, fish and clams. Went with the bacon blue cheese potato salad as well. All excellent, fish was perfectly cooked. Started off with selection of oysters on half shell. Wonderfully presented and tasty. Clam chowder is some of the best in the state. Others in group had a mix of steak burger or other fish dishes and everyone was satisfied for sure. The boar bacon on the burger was a great touch. Drinks were well made especially the gin martins and Moscow mule. Did not have room for dessert, which is usually a good sign. Service was great, very friendly, knowledgable and funny at the same time. Very attentive. Recommend you check this place out, trip to Coronado is not complete without it.

The Brig is a favorite of ours...both locations in Coronado and Point Loma. We recently enjoyed an especially good experience at the Coronado Brig. We had planned to eat in the bar, but it was Taco Tuesday and the bar was full, so we opted for the dining room. We had an especially good waiter who when he found out we love ahi suggested an especially fabulous ahi appetizer that was only on the bar menu. I can't remember what it was called but it was kind of an ahi and mango poke on fried wontons - super good! We also had the blackened ahi appetizer which was also yummy. (I can pretty much never get tired of good ahi) We split the seafood combo entree - fried fish, shrimp and scallops with sides of cole slaw and some different but good bleu cheese potato salad. There is a split charge for splitting entrees but worth it to have everything nicely plated. A nice crisp Sauvignon Blanc also suggested by our waiter was the perfect finish for the palette.

All day happy hour on Sundays. Do you need more? OK, the fish tacos are tasty. I usually get the fried ones, but if you are watching your waist they do have grilled style which are also nice. Good draft beer selection, tasty margaritas. They have outdoor seating with a view of Orange Avenue and the Del which is the spot in the Summer. Is it Summer yet?

Good pre-valentines day dinner. Service was friendly. Sat in the new part of the restaurant, which is not as good as the older, darker part. For a starter, we had the Napa Valley Nachos, which were excellent - Bleu and Fontina cheeses over kettle type potato chips. Completely different than any nachos I've had before... Amazing! For main courses, my wife had the swordfish and I had the filet mignon. As I was in a Bleu cheese mood, I substituted the Bleu cheese & bacon potato salad for the mashed potatoes. All in all very yummy! To sum up, the Birgantine is a great date restaurant... Enjoy!

We come here strictly for "tuna and juice" during happy hour (we sit at the bar). The "tuna" is the tuna appetizer and it's absolutely delicious! The "juice" is the mojito, which taste like juice and is beyond delicious, yet completely dangerous - you won't feel it hit you! Both are worth regular prices, so it's just an added bonus when you don't have to pay as much during happy hour!

Hooray happy hour! the $2.75 fish tacos are fabulous; crispy without being heavy. somehow, grated cheddar improves the taste instead of clashing with it. the happy hour menu is fantastic. you can easily make a meal out of it and go home completely satisfied. great prices, too. the oyster bar has a good menu, too. i ordered cajun rock shrimp that was supposed to come with a chipotle aioli, but instead came with a ginger pineapple dipping sauce. poop! i could have asked our very nice waitress to make the switch, but we were at the end of our meal anyway. no bother. we'll be back often, now that steven the east coast seafoodie has given his stamp of approval to the place.

Ok... The food gets a solid 4 stars but the overall experience moved it to 5 stars. I have only been in town for two months and our anniversary was on the horizon. I started looking for a seafood restaurant online and this one met my criteria : Mid-price, nice surrounding area, something not over the top but not long john silvers either. I saw online that they had an email club and put in my address and received an email for a free appetizer. I'm not usually a coupon user but I have been learning from my mother in law to do these things. The website also had an online reservation maker and I used this to make our res. and at the bottom of the form it asked if we had special instructions. For no real reason I put in that it was our anniversary and we just wanted to enjoy a nice dinner. Ok.. the night comes and we arrive and are seated. (if you are a people watcher this isn't the place... the booth was very very secluded.) We had set the coupon on the table and the waiter took it with our drink order. It was a small sampler app. that was pretty good. Ahi, calimari, and a couple other small things. We ordered the grilled Swordfish and Lobster Fettucine. I'm not a lobster fan but her fettucine was very decent and she really enjoyed the amount of lobster that was in the dish ( abundant was her take) the swordfish although very tasty... for the price (26dollars) was just ok. (We make swordfish at home quite a bit and for 26 dollars I can buy about 6 swordfish steaks and cook them to the same degree of taste that these were. Don't get me wrong... it was very good but for the money I kind of expected the chef to have a fishing line out the back door of the restaurant if ya know what I mean.) We had originally planned on stopping by The Cheesecake Factory for dessert to take home but when we were waiting for our check to come the waiter brought out a huge slice of a mocha espresso ice cream pie and wished us Happy Anniversary... I thought that was very nice of them and it showed that they were very interested in their customers. I will definitely be going back... but in the future it will be during their advertised special times and for happy hours. I thank "The Brig" allowing us to have a very nice , complication free dinner on a special night for us.

OH MY GOD! Brigantine is THE ticket to Seafood Heaven. My date and I were sent up and above the sky on Saturday night . . . We had . . . Blacken Ahi Sashimi (3/5), Blue Point Oyster (4/5 - too small), Fire Prawn (3/5), and Lobster Fettuccine (5/5) Let me tell you, we are still floating in the creamy, cheese, lobster-y fettuccine. The lobster was was huge, crispy, and wonderfully done! Our taste pallets have been spoiled, this week is going to be food-hell. Nothing will compare to the crispy, huge, awesome, creamy, luscious ... this lobster fettuccine.

Took a friend visiting from out of town here for the Sunday happy hour. We wanted to sit on the patio but were told that the area was closed, which was a bit disappointing. We had to sit at the bar but we did end up getting great service from the waitstaff there. I read about the delicious margaritas and had to try one. It was one of the best margaritas I've ever had a restaurant. Strong, while still being pleasurable to drink, with a nice kick from the fresh juices. The margaritas are a bit pricey for happy hour at $7.50. However, considering the size and strength I think they're worth it. My friend had the happy hour Merlot and said it was good. I think it was $5.50 or $5.75 for a glass that came with a small decanter. By the time we finished our drinks they had stopped serving food, so I'll have to wait until next time to try the fish tacos. I'll definitely add this place to my list of delicious happy hour options.

We went here last night for dinner. Usually, we go to the one in La Mesa, but we don't live near there anymore--this is our new location. We never used to eat in the restaurant--we'd just sit in the bar and order bar food or go during happy hour. The food is good and well priced and we like the atmosphere. Last night though, the bar was full so we decided to try the restaurant. It was a Friday night at 7 pm and we got a table for 2 immediately. To start we had the crab & shrimp fondue, which comes with garlic toasts. It was awesome but very rich. I ordered the burger off the bar menu, and my husband had a seafood sampler consisting of different types of fried fish, scallops, etc. served with vegetables and french fries. They were both okay--not amazing, but decent. My husband said his fish wasn't that great. The service, however, was really good and the atmosphere is nice. Parking is a bit of an issue--we parked a few blocks away. No big deal really. My recommendation is to try this place at happy hour--love it! Or just sit at the bar for a well-priced and good meal in a nice place. I'm not sure when we'll go back to the main restaurant--maybe if we have visitors in town or something, but we'd probably try somewhere we haven't already been, to be honest, like Peohe's or the Boat House.

My first time eating here. My girlfriends glass had lipstick on it(herpes or coldsore, anybody). The white sea bass I ordered was good, not great. The fish was slightly on the dry side, enough to make you notice. Other than that, which unfortunately cost them two stars, the soup and salad were delicious. Cocktails very buzzworthy. If your coming to the Brig, make sure it's happy hour. Best oysters in San Diego though. Hopefully my second time coming here is not like my first. I'm willing to give any place a second chance.

this was our last stop in Coronado. was just okay. I don't really like sea food... so kept it safe with good old choice of fish and chips the B.F. had Prime Rib. Fish and Chips: could have been seasoned a bit more also the portion size was a bit small. Prime Rib: okay! no complaints but no compliments either. The appetizers: calamari and garlic toast. Calamari was okay, wasn't the wimpy little kind like usual places... this place had meaty peaces. The garlic toast was amazing but then again i love garlic anything! The service: the usual great. seat. serve. and smile... the service of the food was longer then the norm... I'd say we waited a good 30min. and they were not a full house! NO sadface but just OK for this one. ~christina

Oh, yes. Immensely delicious food. I got the fish taco plate from the bar menu as it was early afternoon after a big day of volleyball. The potato salad was unlike any other I've ever had and the veggies were done to perfection. The tacos (2) had plenty of fish, not too much mayo or cabbage, and were really just delicious. It was the perfect amount of food for hungry me. The rest of the menu seemed a bit expensive, but I expect that if it was as good as the fish tacos, it would not have been a disappointment for a fancier dinner.

I have been to the Brigantine in Del Mar and thought it was ok.. but the Coronado staff made an ok an exceptional.! Went with a friend with the same birthday.. coupon.. we sat in the bar though we could have had a table. Nice ambiance attentive staff, good appetizers and wine on the happy hour menu.. complimentary birthday mud pie was outstanding.. and a slice for one was almost too much for two.. mushrooms Rockefeller yum.. on a Sunday early evening place was hopping all in all a great vibe!

Came here for happy hour and really enjoyed it. The drink specials weren't great, but the food specials were. Had fish tacos and oysters on the half. Really great service. And Celia Hodes from Weeds was sitting at the bar, which was kinda cool, except that she was kinda blocking the tv and I was trying to watch the game.
