Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

So a manager from ElBuro contacted me and apologized via email for the service I'd gotten. She asked me to call her, but I did not. Instead I waited until about a month ago before I started going back. And they have certainly gotten themselves back on track. The lunch employees are very nice and considerate. I don't see the rude guy that helped me before there (maybe they switched his shift). I actually prefer this place to Chipotle around the corner... Thanks for the customer service training! It worked!

It was like somebody's grandma was cooking in the back. Ha ha! Delicious!!! I wasn't expecting this place to taste this good. We were indecisive and just said what the heck. We had the carne asada bowl with the chipotle sauce (steak was better than Chipotle's steak which is hard to chew), and the cochinito pibil burrito (sauce was tasty). I also liked that they had pickled onions. Had no issues with customer service. Maybe they hired new workers don't know, but they both greeted us with smiles. We'll be back for sure.
(5)Prizila V.
Yes Amazing! Love the Food!!!! I tried All of the Tacos they offered! !!! I was on a business trip trying to find a great last minute Mexican Place and stumbled upon this Amazing Place!!!! Definitely will travel from San Diego to here!!!!
(5)Mayra Q.
Hands down! Best steak tacos I've ever had. Meat is so nice and tender seasoned perfectly, guacamole is fresh everything is just great! Chipotle is imitation when you try this place! Plus they serve beer, who doesn't like tacos and beer, perfect place to come after a long day of work!
(5)Jacquelyn A.
you dare me to say it??? YES, better than CHIPOTLE. Yes I said it, better than CHIPOTLE. Packed with TONs of flavor and cheaper too! Modern layout, quick service, BUT i must say that the workers are not a friendliest bunch, LOL. In fact, they look miserable but never rude (at least towards me). I can get over that really quick, since the food is good. I usually go for the bowl: scoop of spanish rice, scope of brown rice. I usually will pick from the Chicken, Steak Asada, or Barbacoa (all which are good / can't go wrong). Lettuce, Cheese, RED Onions, GUAC, Chipotle Sauce, Sour Cream, and the Chipotle MAYO sauce...OHHHH yah. Spend about $7, check in for a free drink :)
(4)Ashley M.
Been here a couple times and it tastes super good! Kinda similar to the chipotle concept. I choose the bowl every time. The chicken was seasoned good! I got the Spanish rice, black beans, picco de gallo, lettuce, guacamole, radishes and cilantro.
(5)Renaissance Marie A.
The food here was definitely a gush of flavor in mouth. I was pleasantly surprised! I am a seafood person and had two shrimp tapias and one tilapia tapias and a side of Spanish rice. Very, very good. I will go back before I leave this area.
(5)Malureenah B.
First time. We had the chicken burrito and carnitas tacos. Food was very good and tasty. Nice clean facility and staff provided excellent service. This is def a spot we will go to again. Convenient location next to our hotel that we can walk to in like 3 mins.

OMG OMG OMG !!!!! I been meaning to write on here because you are missing out if you haven't tried ! WWWWAAAAYYYYY better than Chipotle :) defiantly two dumbs up !!! Funny how I see complaints about customer service , so sad that most people only seem to go out their way to say negative things rather than positive. Every time I've been in El burro , Yesenia , has been very friendly with myself and other customers, going out her way to let customers sample meats & never makes me feel rushed when she has served me. Sorry about my rant , I hate bully's lol . Food is great and that's what should be rated the food . How long of contact could you possibly have with someone making your burrito or taco to know that they are rude ? lol idk my opinion love you el burro !! all your meats !! toppings !!! yummy !!! I'm hungry now lol .. Five stars !!!
(5)John L.
Way better and cheaper then Chipotle. .Love everything. .Creamy Chipotle sauce is off the chain. .
(5)Mychael S.
Food is good, cooks are great, set up is awesome. All of that and the customer service is usually great, except the server Yesenia. Her attitude and whole aura is only complaint. I've started coming in a few weeks ago. Spicy chicken bowl is a win but if she's serving, I'll pass. Can't believe she has a tip jar. I'd tip everybody else but her. I let a day go by before i wrote this review but after reading other reviews, I see a common complaint. This woman needs to be retrained. I never want anyone to lose their livelihood do maybe she could go to cleaning the bathrooms, mopping the floors, anything but customer interaction for a week or few. Other than that, keep up the good eats. Oh yeah, how about $1 for the guacamole?

I said it before yelp.com/biz/fresh-and-e… And I will say it again: The world is full of Bootlegs Make no mistake about it El Burro is in fact a bootleg Chipotle!!!!!! Now as I mentioned before....We...Need...Bootlegs!!!! Bootlegs are our friend. Sometimes you can't get to where you want to go. In this case if you want Chipotle but is close to El Burro then just go to EL Burro. Same Chicken Different Wing I ordered the Burrito in a Bowl...Not the Burrito Bowl...Not the Big Mac but the Big Mic. They both have rice beans cheese lettuce mild medium or hot sauce and sour cream....but instead of brown rice you can get Spanish rice. The Meat options are a bit extended here but same quality. Cheese is not the same quality as El Burro Cheese taste more like Govt. Cheese from Mexico. Hey here is the moral of the story: Nothing wrong with EL Burro they're just a bootleg Chipotle thats all.
(3)Lizette V.
Amazing tacos!!! I am hooked! Quick, cheap, clean, hearty and delicious. That's my kinda taco spot!
(5)Christopher M.
Pretty much a poor man's Chipotle. Except it's about the same price. And the food's not as good. Passable if you're getting lunch in the area, but not worth seeking out.
(3)Yadira V.
Delicious food! I call it the fake chipotle but it's way better than Chipotle in my opinion. I am a stud era at csudh and I get tired of the food in our campus ! This location is clean , fast service , and great prices!
(4)Crystal M.
Randomly came here and WOW- can't believe how delicious the food is! I got a carne asada burrito. The meat seemed to be marinated with lime which made it soo tasty. You get to choose what toppings you'd like, all made fresh and tasting very authentic. Definitely one of the best taco places I been too. I will be sure to go back.
(5)Denise H.
This place has good food that is full of flavor! They do bowls, tacos, burritos, tapas with plenty of options! I like it WAY better than Chipotle! Their chips and guacamole are good too!! It's clean and never a super long wait. You can dine in or take out.
(4)Kevin H.
And the three taco plate was was delicious. One chicken, steak and pork. They have a self serve soda machine. Place was clean and people at the counter were nice and very helpful with all the selection because they do have spicy beef, chicken or marinated in other sauces.
(5)Rachel S.
Upon walking inside I was very happy to see the decor and ambiance with large panels of windows around the main side of the perimeter and a large flat screen playing soccer. The set up is very similar to Chipotle. With the yelp add suggesting that it was only one $, I assumed that my girlfriend and I could get two bean and cheese burritos for under $10. They charged us 12.45 for two simple bean burritos (no meat) and a medium fountain drink. The burritos were half the size of chipotle. We then were charged an extra 50 cents for salsa when we should have gotten complimentary salsa with the chips we got. So when I asked to not be charged the 50 cents and just stick with complimentary, she still shoved it towards me. The man who gathered the burrito was eager to please, I believe his name is Norann. He was charismatic and cared about my experience being perfect so I would come back. The woman behind register, however made me wish I didn't spend my money on these small bean burritos and just go to a hole in the wall with same quality and 1/3 of the price. Overall, I think the food is over priced, the seating is rigid. There is only one large TV and a small one. The portion size is smaller than that of Chipotle. So why not just go somewhere else? Not worth my 12/13 dollars for a simple little bean cheese burrito.

Make it your way mexican food. Nice! Seeing I have never been to a place like this it was a nice change. That being said a #1 2 tacos rice and beans would make ordering easier. Food was satifying and made to order.
(4)Erica S.
Place is good, small like the setting has two tv's, play sports, beer , set up like chipotle but better more variety
(4)Jesus D.
Very delicious food! I got there about 20 min before they closed and they already had most of their food put away but it was ok because I still thought what I got was delicious! This was my first and will definitely go again!
(5)Sam N.
This place is the best! Food is delicious! And they sell beer! My bf and I go here for lunch because of the different variety of meat and chicken they have. I would highly recommend this place if you want a decent taco or burrito with out going out of your way. I read the other reviews and the times I have gone the workers are nice and helpful.
(5)Steph C.
HORRIBLE!!!! Not going back at all! Customer service is huge for me and they lack it 100% Yesenia, the girl who put my food together not once greeted me or smiled. She just asked what I wanted to order and she basically threw all of the ingredients on a wavy taco dish, literally. She looked miserable, not to mention, when I asked what the different meats were she wasnt specific at all, she said thats beef or thats chicken or pork. She didnt explain what the three different bowls of beef were or what the different types of chicken or pork they were serving. She was so rude and all she kept saying to the cook was that she wanted to go home. Anyway, I dont recommend this place and I'll continue taking my business to chipotle.
(1)Eugene G.
I went here for lunch the other day. The place reminds me of a Chipotle but with not-so-good tasting food. They have a Subway style setup where they make your food in an assembly-line type setting. I had the beef/asada in red sauce; it was too runny/saucy. The restaurant itself was clean. Nothing really special about this place and I won't be coming back...or maybe I will only to try other items since it's only 2 mins away from work.
(2)Christine A.
MY NEW FAVORITE SPOT FOR LUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â!!!!! I cannot believe I didn't try this place sooner, because I am so sad for all the time I've been missing out! And yes, it's THAT good! Choose from taipas--which are smaller than tacos, tacos, burrito, or a bowl then you can pick your meat ! I love the variety of meat options they have and how you can try so many different things at once! Beef: steak picado, bistek en salsa roja, barbacoa, asada, carne en su jugo Chicken: tinga de pollo, mole casi poblano, pollo asado Pork: cochinita pibiil, chuleta en salsa verde, carnitas Veggie: calabacitas, champinones Seafood: grilled shrimp, grilled tilapia Also, they have some amazing options you add to make your meal even more delicioso! My favorite is definitely the pickled onions......yum! (I am drooling as I type!) Price is good plus, it's fast! As dangerous as it might sound (because I loveeee Chipotle), if you are a fan of Chipotle & you like tacos, you will LOVE this place too! The only con I can possibly think for this place is that you might pack on more calories than you might want...and how crazy the parking can get at times.
(5)Arleene V.
This place is bomb dot com! Eat, drink, be happy! It's a lot like Chipotle in the way it looks, how they take your order and the packaging of their product. However(!!) this place has legit Mexican cooking unlike its Americanized counter part. As a true beaner raised in Mexico, I gotta give it to El Burro for cleverly disguising real Mexican food to fool the general public...not the other way around. I got a steak bowl and the meat and rice were to kill for (cause I die for no one ya heard?!) I work down the street so next time I bribe my coworker into driving off campus for lunch, I suspect this is going to be the chillin' spot!
(5)Allen K.
It's like the taco Chipotle but they have some nice spicy salsa that's true Mexican style:) they make the Tacos with extra meat I liked that it's a great place good prices. The meat seems to be of middle grade quality but it's always cooked well because I haven't got sick yet. I've made 3 trips so I'd say there worth a try. Service was ok nothing exceptional just average (which can make or break them)
(3)Sandra S.
A total chipotle knock-off. Except this place is better, I actually hate Chipotle. I ordered an asada bowl with mexican rice, black beans, lettuce, pickled onions and picadillo. The guy over the counter was friendly, but I wish he was paying attention to my order instead of the World Cup game--he added cheese and I'm not sure what else when I didn't ask for it. I didn't make it a big deal since I can simply just 'pick it out.' Oh, and one more thing guys: TURN THE TV's VOLUME DOWN. I HAD TO KEEP ASKING HIM TO REPEAT HIMSELF over 5 times! I shouldn't get a headache from ordering food. Maybe next time I'll have a better review about the food, if my order is right and I don't end up leaving the place with a pounding headache.
(3)Peter R.
Similar to a chipotle but more options. Burritos are wet and hard to eat, very good and great staff. Bring a bib
(4)Isabella L.
Wow, these tacos are straight bomb. That is all. Ok, for those of you who never venture to this area get your ass over there soon. Like Arleene V. said, they cleverly have disguised authentic Mexican street tacos into a Chipotle-type atmosphere to bring in the timid Gringo. The flight of 6 mini tacos is so awesome because you can try all sorts of meats - just the regular carne and pollo asada and carnitas were amazing. Also, bottled beers (Modelo and other Mex favs) available. Ok now that is all.
(5)Crystal R.
I would say this is kinda of like chipotle or like qdoba, but better ! This place has fish and shrimp! big plus for a pescatarian ! they have two types of rice, grilled veggies, dif kinds of beans, and a ton of other options. and they serve alcohol ! Not that I drink but just sayin !
(5)Diana V.
Food could be way better. I came here cuz I've always drove by and I said "let's give it a shot" my dinner tasted old.. As if it was sitting there for hours and hours. The girl at the counter was rude and not very welcoming. Wish I caught her name! Service needs to improve. Maybe I'll give it another shot? Idk..
(2)Jenny V.
Yes, this place is just like a chipotle. But its so much better! With a bigger selection of meats and toppings for your burritos, tacos, bowls. I only get the burrito here. Barbacoa is my favorite! I recently tried a chicken fajita burrito. Soo yummy! Chicken and steak here is good too. Beer is too pricey for me, but the horchata is off the chain. Cant complain. Nomnom. The staff is cool! And the place itself is always clean with chill vibes.
(4)Jasmin O.
The food, the set up, it's a Chipotle knock-off, but worse. The meat was dry. The tortillas tasted stale. It's very overpriced. Payed a little over $8 for three small tacos. I left in shock. I took one bite, spit it out, and went elsewhere for my dinner. The service wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. I do not recommend this place. If you can help it, go somewhere else. You won't be at all satisfied if you come here. I was incredibly disappointed.
(1)Jeremy S.
Screw all the haters. This place is tits. The tacos are delicious. This is my go-to place to fuel up before the Galaxy games. In fact, we hit this place up before AND after the March 17 game. Highly recommend.
(4)Sabrina D.
this place is sooo good! I love coming her on my lunch breaks. amazing quality of food and you get a good amount. this is my favorite place to come and eat during lunch!
(5)David K.
First let me say my 2 stars is not because of the food. The food is great. I've been coming here from the day it opened. My 2 stars is for customer services. The people are not the friendliest people are. Plus it's for how skimpy they are now on the food. They charge you for any and everything extra. Asked for a little more salsa on my burrito was told I had to pay it. As much as I really like there food looks like I may have to stop going if this keeps up.
(2)Patricia D.
I've been intrigued driving by this place for a while now and took the opportunity to give it a try on my way home from school. I had a visit prior to the one I am basing my review on but ending up leaving without trying the food. 1st Impression: The name is cute and the scribbled drawing of a donkey for a logo is even cuter! The menu is similar to that of Chipotle or FREEB!RDS (the one in Santa Barbara) in regards that it is simple and not overwhelming with tons of choices. The interior design of the place is definitely five stars! Food: I ordered 6 Tapias which were miniature tacos, something new and is not in the Chipotle or FREEB!RDS menu. I tried two of each calabacitas, champinones, and shrimp. I am not sure which is which between calabacitas or champinones but one was mushrooms, while the other was squash, cactus and tomatoes. The shrimp was salty, cold and not grilled at all! I was watching the cook hand them to my server and he was looked like he had a hard time separating individual pieces from one another. The mushrooms were good and so were the squash/cactus. I love that they put cactus! The tortilla that they used were a bit thick and quiet difficult to eat without all the stuffing spewing out! The green cilantro sauce I chose was bomb and compensated for saltiness or lack of flavor from the tacos. Service: The two girls on the floor were nice, they did their job. Interior: I definitely give this place five stars for its decor! Great job to whomever is responsible for the interior design. The place looks modern and aesthetically pleasing! The wooden tables are rustic with a single clear glass lamp hanging above each one. The place looked very clean and attractive! I was eager to see the bathroom since the lobby and serving bar looked great but it was a well kept and had no specific interior design. I really want to like this place for it's food and not its interior decor but my recent visit is most likely my last.
(1)Carolyn D.
The food is pretty good. So far I have tried the carne asada burritos and it's actually pretty good. I enjoyed it much more than I did the chicken burrito bowl. The food is good not delicious ;-)
(4)Morgan C.
Aside from the chick texting, when she was supposed to be giving me my change. This place is by far, waaaaay better than Chipotle. I had Barbacoa & Carne Asada Tacos, and they were pretty tasty. The meat tasted very fresh, wasn't greasy. I like those little pickeled onions, and the hot sauces they have available are pretty righteous. I'll definitely go back and try a few other things, and I may be back depending on how I feel about my experience! =)
(4)Clifford S.
El Burro just doesn't live up to its potential. The restaurant is decent to look at and clean but that is pretty much the end of its positive attributes. I was glad to try a new place while out in LA for business and this seemed like a Chipotle clone. Unfortunately it was more of a Chipotle wannabe that doesn't measure up. The food was plain, nothing special, not at all tasty like Chipotle. It was pricey and smallish portions. Next time, I will seek out an actual Chipotle.
(3)Lindsey G.
I was really hoping it was just a one time incident but i am so disappointed, I have come to this place 3 times and 2 out of the 3 times I have gotten Chicken bones in my Chicken burrito bowl :(
(1)Marcus T.
The food is alright. I wasn't full when l left. One's better off at Chipotle, or some other place similar.
(2)Kyle H.
The food and service were terrible! First they only had one person doing the food and ringing people up at 5:30pm on a Friday. The proceeded to talk me out of getting the shrimp because it was more work. After a slow line finally reaching the front they got a second guy on the line and then wrapped my burrito as if he had wanted it to fall apart. The spicey shredded beef I got was subpar at best and left me wishing i would have gone without. Will not be returning.
(1)Vidal E.
not too bad, service is fast. Some servers hook you up, and some dont. No doubt the taste is a present for your taste buds! ^_^
(3)Kevin C.
This place is in the Chipotle vein. Simple menu, makes for fast service. Clean and straightforward dining area, also reasonably priced. Give it the nod over other similar places because of the real, fresh ingredients.
(4)Kevin P.
So you may have read other reviews describing this place as taking a page out of Chipotle Grill playbook, and at first glance...I definitely got that feeling. But aside from the similarities of the overall look/feel of Chipotle, El Burro takes the cake on offering more flavorful varieties! I had to give them an automatic 1 star for even offering Steak Picado. You'd be surprised how many places say they serve "authentic" Mexican food but never offer this one simple, yet delicious choice of meat! In addition to this, they also have another unique choice of meat called Cochinita pibil which is a slow-roasted pork...yum! And lets not forget their beer selection, everything from Modelo Especial & Negro, Corona, Dos Equis (lager & amber) and my current favorite, Victoria (similar in taste to Pacifico). What really sold me was their customer service. You can't believe the number of places I will not revisit based on shoddy customer service. As simple as this may seem, some places don't even bother saying hello when you walk through their door. Not the case with El Burro, they took the time explaining the different choices of meat and one of the workers even made suggestions on the things he thought we should try, and later came over to our table to throw our trash away...awesome! Some may feel this place is a rip-off of Chipotle, but I can assure you they're definitely worth a try at the very least. I will definitely be coming back to try some of the rest of their food!
(4)Sumiko B.
El Burro is similar to Chipotle in terms of their structure but it tastes so much better! I've been here a couple times now and always get the veggie burrito which is MASSIVE. I suggest ordering it with half mushrooms and half squash. Then I add black beans, Spanish rice, all the veggies including spicy onions (they have non-spicy as well) and radishes, cheese, and guacamole. I'm a firm believer in limes on the side but they can squeeze those in there if you prefer. And I adore their spicy green tomatillo salsa. SO GOOD! That with a large agua de jamaica (hibiscus) and I'm set for lunch at around $10. Highly recommend.
(5)Dani M.
The service was whatever. The food was terribly seasoned. Jesus christ what is goin on back there. You guys arent using "special"imgrediants are you? New rule: mexican restaurants from now on must serve "hand made" Tortillas.
(1)Tamara H.
I pass this place on the way to work at CSUDH. I decided to try El Burro for the first time two weeks ago. I love it so much, I have been here three times in the past week! My favorite is the red chili beef. The flavorful meats and variety of toppigs is what set this place apart from Chipotle. Absolutely yummy! I think I might get a bowl for lunch today...lol!
(5)Jay T.
Is it me, or are some reviews getting very picky? I enjoyed my tacos and beer, and it was a good place to watch an NBA playoff game. Too bad the Clippers lost. :(
(4)Maya D.
I would say this place is just okay. They try to distinguish themselves from other burrito/taco places by having a variety of meat options cooked in different sauces. I made myself a little sampler by getting 3 different tacos. Do not get the shrimp. It had no seasoning and tasted like they just bought a cold cocktail shrimp platter at the grocery store to use. The beef and chicken were okay. The sauces had a slightly tangy flavor that I wasn't in love with. This place might survive on the lunch crowd because there's no similar place in the area. But there is no way they could compete with a Chipotle or Freebirds.
(3)Nancy L.
Yay I'm a fan! Finally something like chipotle but with more FLAVA!!! driving around looking for something rather than SUBWAY came upon this place. I ordered there burrito with chicken, Bean, rice lettuce, squash, and citrus guacamole salsa yummy. I like that they have a variety of salsas. "There concept is like chipotle but with more flavorful", so they said lol.
(4)Kenya H.
Pretty nice place. Just as good as Chipotle and just as expensive, except there is a much shorter wait time since this is not Chipotle but Carson's knock off version. The burrito bowl is what I get every time and it is delish. I will definitely be back!
(4)Karla L.
My boyfriend and I came to Carson for a soccer game. We wanted food from a place outside of the stadium since prices there are pretty much ridiculous. We happened to stumble upon this. Best choice! Just like chipotle like people have mentioned but way better in my opinion. More choices of meat, toppings, salsa and drinks! I mean horchata and Jamaica water! Legit. Give it a go if you're looking for a quick fast food place.
(5)Alan P.
After waiting 6 months or so for this place to finally open, I finally got to try them out today. Verdict: Very, very good! About as good as a taco gets, and with 20 meats to choose from, it will probably hard to get board of this place. I think it's a little pricey, for the amount of food you get, and the fact that well, it's tacos. That said, the ingredients were all super fresh and the meat was high quality.
(4)Johnny S.
Chipotle, but more Latino? Sounds crazy, but this place delivers. Clean and orderly. Had the chicken burrito. Very nice. Staff was nice. A bit high in cost, but quality... Come here.
(4)Dae'sha J.
I love this place! It reminds me of chipotle but better. Yes I said better. I always get the burrito bowl or the tacos. I am never disappointed. The steak is so flavorful! Everyone should try it at least once. The salsa Verde is the best!
(4)Ralph D.
Descent tacos, more gourmet made than a traditional old fashion taco stand. The tacos were tasty the flavor in the tortilla could improve, mole de pollo and chile verde pork for me although they have a wide selection of meats and toppings. Over all good experience, can't wait to try other items on the menu
(4)Jermaine B.
I'm giving this place 2 stars because the had great service, but the food was nasty! I had a grilled chicken burrito the chicken chewed like rubber! Toppings were decent at best. I will not be returning here, id much rather an authentic local mexican place or even chipotle kills this place. Don't come you will be disappointed!
(2)Cuche S.
I really love this place, I have tried so far 4 different meats and they all are really good, the place is always clean and also the people there are really friendly, the only thing that bothers me is that they are to many employes doing nothing and they are always talking by the kitchen while just one is serving the food, but other than that this place is amazing!
(5)Laura R.
El Burro clearly takes a page from the Chipotle playbook, however they've stepped up the offerings and quality to make an even better product. What I liked about Chipotle was their simplicity in ordering and in the food. Nothing too crazy, just generally good food. What I love even more about El Burro is that the flavor is anything but simple and the menu is larger, without being too much. Food: I like the option of spanish rice, which has a great taste. I love that each type of meat is prepared in at least four different ways. It's one of the first places that had carne asada in a chile verde sauce -- which is a favorite of mine. I will say that I had their chicken once and that will be the last time. The beef and pork offerings are far superior. They have really good pico de gallo and other sides to go with your meal. A downer is that just like Chipotle, they charge $1.20 for guacamole. For a $5-6 item, that just seems like too much to me personally. However, they make up for it with the portions. They give you a substantial amount of food in your Burrito or Salad (all I've tried so far) and I felt I was getting my money's worth. Value: Great food and food options for roughly $7 per item you get. Again, they are not skimpy here and have tons of sauces, salsas, and sides. It costs about the same as Chipotle, but the flavor and options are far superb. Seating Area: The seating area is not huge. It can fill up and you are forced to take your food to go. Conclusion: If you are head over heels for Chipotle (not sure why you would be), then this place may not knock your socks off. But, if you are like me and finally realized that Chipotle's offerings are blah and overrated, then give El Burro a try. You have to give them at least 6 visits before you can sample all of their offerings.

We bought a Living Social voucher so we came all the way out here from East LA. The place looks nice, almost like Chipotle. The food is not as great as we thought it would be; it was decent at best. All the meats were kind of bland and lacking in authentic flavor. I think we'll just stick to Boyle Heights where the Tacos are the best!

I've only ever had a burrito from here. The meat is great the rice is just ok. You can customize your own burrito anyway you want, much like chipotle but much more options and better tasting. The guacamole is great but the chips not so much. Nice small place. Good service, prices are average. Overall better than the much bigger, busier, louder place next door.

Incredibly slow. Vegetarian burros are over priced and cost 1.20 extra for guac. If you ask for water you get a 4 oz cup. Rip off of chipotle. Chipotle is cheaper and tastes better.

Tacos and Beer! Someone has a degree in advertising for men! Ahh, but I digress as the sign is all that is appealing towards this man at least. As I walked into this dark and quiet joint, I can only wonder how Tacos and Beer translated to a place so disjointed from its name. I immediately walked in the wrong way of the line since the line starts to your immediate left as you walk in from the sun and are blinded by the polar opposite of brightness from within. Having finally cleared the sun spots from my eyes, I ended up at the register side of the line and had to walk back towards the beginning of the counter to actually start my journey. Luckily no one was in line. Then again, was it lucky if no one was in line at lunch time? Hmm. I scoped out the steam table and it was a Chipotle knockoff for sure. Not being a big Chipotle fan, I was torn between going to the Antojitos Truck or sticking it out and giving them a shot. I am usually good about trying places at least once, most often twice, just to see if something clicks. I was quickly bombarded by the menu. The different vessels to choose from, the ridiculous amount of meats and veggies that were available, the confusing a$$ menu list, and the pushy lady trying to make my decision for me even though there was absolutely no one else in line. I took the hint and ordered just a bowl with Mexican rice (they called it yellow rice. huh?) My other choice was steamed white rice. huh? Black or pinto beans on top. A handful of lettuce with nothing else on it on the side. huh? A very ungenerous portion of chile verde. Seriously took a ladle, dumped half of it back into the container, and daintily put it on my rice and beans and didn't even empty the ladle. huh? Sprinkled on the tomatillo salsa like it was worth the price of platinum. huh? I asked for more salsa on the side and they gave me some other green salsa. huh? I paid and they didn't even put the extra salsa in the bag so I had to carry it on top of my tightly sealed bag. huh? I walked out and immediately one salsa started slipping off the top of the slippery bag. As I tried to catch it, it smashes in my hand and startles me so much that the other salsa slides off the other side of my bag and collapses on the ground. huh? I seriously stood there smiling for a few seconds at this comical experience, dropped the salsa I had caught in my hand, got in my car with my bowl and took off. At home, I powered through my sorry bowl of food and it was as expected, not worth the price. It was decent but the rice was bland and mushy, the beans were decent, the lettuce was just out of place, and the chile verde wasn't cooked very well. It was cubed and had the texture of boiled lengua. Not good if you're expecting soft chile verde. All in all, I would not go back. Great name but the atmosphere, food, and service do not match the advertisement. I understand the concept though so there is potential for improvement. I wish they would not copy such a crappy place like Chipotle. The skill is there if the assortment of meats are any sign, so be creative with your own style. Right now, everybody is going to compare you to a chain Mexican-type joint which sucks. The food will speak for itself if you present it right.

This place is great. I've worked in this area for 3 years now and I have been dying for a Chipotle to open up. That didn't happen, but this is the next best thing. The place is super clean and they have a lot of different choices. There are like 4 different kinds of meats and different kinds of chicken in sauce. They have 2 types of rice and beans. They are doing a good job. Not to mention, they have queso fresco as a topping. It was my first time visiting this place and my food was delicious. I tried the bowl with the carnitas and I devoured it. I finished my entire bowl. I would totally come back to this place. It's great to have new options for food in your work area. 2 thumbs up!

I went for lunch and the food was so good. I had the tapias tour (6 small tacos). I enjoyed every meat flavor. I had al pastor, cochinita pibil, barbacoa, mole, tinga and carne in salsa roja. I loved it so much I went back for dinner with my wife. This will be on of my new lunch spots. Best of all the have a huge selection of Mexican beer. The have Pacifico, modelo especial and negra, dos xx and Bohemia

Do not come here unless you want to feel completely ripped off and leave hungry. It has crap food and above average prices for a TACO! This is LA many choices for tacos. I would write more but I need to go eat again since I just left there. Place sucks.

Josh and I came and we each ordered a trio. I was a bit disappointed when I asked for a meat (al pastor) and the server said they didn't have it. Josh also asked for a meat choice which they didn't have. The cochinita a bit dry. It was okay. The barbacoa is a lot juicier. Maybe the juiciness comes from the salsa. I have this suspicious, because the meat itself had a dry texture. Josh liked two of his meat choices. He felt like getting the marinated meats was the way to go here at El Burro. If not a marinated meat, then one should really compliment his/her taco with the various sauces available. Josh liked his two meat tacos better than his shrimp taco. On the topic of seafood tacos, I was unsatisfied with my tilapia taco. It was such a small piece of fish. And to rub salt in my wounds, the tortilla, being thick, easily overpowered the fish in flavor. If you're hungry, get a burrito. If not, get the trio.

Drove by this place and decided to give it a shot. It's called El Burro and that's pretty much the theme. The restrooms are labeled "burro" and "burra", I actually did not find that amusing. Oh and there's pictures of donkey's all around the walls. The space they allocated for the line is divided by a 4ft-ish wooden wall, kind of giving that sense of being herded to the front. Ordering there is pretty much like subway, except by the time you get to the cashier- your food is cold, womp womp womp! I had a carne asada burrito with a medium size coke, totaling to a $8/9 bucks. The burrito was ok except that it was cold. They have fountain drinks, Coke in a bottle (nice!), jarritos in bottles and beer. I can't remember the exact selection of beers but it couldn't have been more than five and no, Corona was not one of them *gasps*! Things I can't believe, besides no corona- there was no lime, horchata, or deserts. Most disappointing thing of all was that i actually saw either one of the owners or supervisors call out to the cashiers "Hey! You two, c'mere", then he continued to tell them they were not being paid to talk to coworkers and told them to clock out. May I add, there was no one in line or even there eating other than me. So what's an employee to do? Clean a spotless looking restaurant? Stand there looking like a zombie until someone walks in? - Reprimanding employees in front of patrons or coworkers is not professional and doesn't say much about the owners. Even the manager came out and looked like he felt bad for the way the employees were treated by the owner (or at least someone that acted like he owned the place). Yes they just opened, yes business is tough, but don't forget about common decency. ps. I'll be going to tacos Gavilan, I never see employees get mistreated there. Plus, I'll get more authentic mexican food that's cheaper too. :)

since this place is near my workplace i visited during my lunch hour for its grand opening. the name is catchy. so yes they were slow in the first month or so but now that i have have returned the service has gotten better. the variety and choice of meats is new to me for tacos at a restaurant. (just to let you you know i have never been to Chipotle and never will) Maybe that's why i felt odd they way you order your food here, feels like a wanna be mexican food Subway. well for me thats just feel right. i do give it a thumbs up on the good tasting food. i was surprised to see Chicharron en salsa roja for an ingredient. the best thing is the beer. no one can say bad things about beer. ok maybe pricey but this helps not getting hammered during lunch. all in all the food taste great, modern look and it's very clean.

I got the steak burrito and I gotta say it was ok nothing special the thing I didn't like about it was it had a lot of tough meat that I had a hard time chewing some of the pieces you are better off going to chipotle for same type of food but better quality.

This place is an over priced establishment. Trying to be trendy the menu is not appealing. The Carne asada super salty the chicken mole lacked in flavor. Overpriced for the size of burritos.will not be back. $9 bucks for a mini burritos no thanks.

This place is a Choptle look alike but overpriced and not tasty.....

This is a little gem of a restaurant and I feel like I have to come to its defense. I agree with some of the posts regarding the small portion sizes and somewhat overpriced menu; however this is NOT a huge chain (ie. chipotle) that can make up for cheap prices with volume. IMO El Burro more than makes up for it with the great variety of meats you can pick from. Although the steak (asada) is really good, I would recommend you come with the mindset of trying something new! The Cochinita Pibil, Bistek con Salsa Verde and Tinga are delicious! The staff was courteous and the restaurant was very clean. I will be returning to try more!

Better then Chipotle because they have a wider variety of prepared meats, unfortunately not cabeza (beef head) or lengua (beef tongue). The tapias kick-ass and the prices are reasonable. With more varieties of salsa and condiments then Chipotle this little spot is a good place for a quick meal. Nice interior and good service make El Burro a place I intent to visit and bring friends to.

This Chipotle knock-off must have serious $ backing because the place was stylishly decorated and they obviously put a lot into their branding. Unfortunately, the food and value pale in comparison to the original. Mind you, it might have been because this place is new, but it appears that the staff have not been properly trained in food prep. The gal that made my food was stumbling all over herself and my burrito was as skinny as those microwave ones you get at a gas station. The next customer (served by a different gal) got a more respectable-looking burrito, but still, the topping selections were sparse. I can understand charging extra for guacamole, but no lettuce?!?!?!?! They've seen the last of me.

$18 bucks on one Steak picado burrito with guacalmole and 3 tacos. BLAND. Hardely any taste in the salsa's or meat! I tried the Barbacoa, and Chicharon. Couldn't really tell the difference in taste. It all tasted like it was watered down. I tried the HOT salsa, which was not hot at all! Green Salsa tasted like a small cup of water with a few drops of tapatio. I had the black beans in the burrito. I mean it looks like a Chipote, has signs like Chipote but the taste and quality are just not there. I should have gone to the Subway right next door. Oh well. tricked me once Shame on you. Trick me twice, SHAME ON ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you feel me?

I visited El Burro today, and the service and food were great. I ordered a chicken burrito, chicken and shrimp tapias, and chips and guacamole. All were delicious. With this being a new establishment, I believe they are doing a great job. I will definitely be going back. The reason why they got a 4 instead of 5 was because they had no nutritional information. Other than that, it was great!!!

I've been reading the past reviews and I have to say one thing on its defense, it just open about two months ago and like any new business it takes time to work out its kinks. I was there the week it first open and I would agree with most of this reviews "small portions" "expensive" . I was there last week and gave it a second chance and I was blown away how much better its gotten!!! Portions are bigger, service is good and the staff was great :) I totally see this place with great potential and wish them the very best!!

Mediocre at best. The first warning sighn was that every restaurant around was packed except El Burro. There was not one person inside but I was like what the heck ill try it. The inside looks really nice but after you get over the ambiance then the horror begins. All of the food looked like it was sitting there for hours. The beans were crusted over. Enough said. I tried a chicken burrito, no beans. The meat was dry and bland. Chipotle for life.
