This is a great little spot. We stopped here for breakfast and were served by the owner first thing in the morning. The blueberry pancakes were really big and very flavorful, recommend highly. Also had "potato skin hash" because I had never heard of it before and it was amazing. The place is small and in an old building, very much a diner. The quality of the food is not diner though, you can tell that some thought went into the menu and they care about the food. I'll stop by next time I am headed north.

My Wife and I shared the a side of Corned Beef hash and the Potato Skin Hash dish. Wow! Get the Corned Beef Hash for the surprise value alone. It looks nothing like any other I've ever seen. I was impressed by it's hand-crafted goodness. Speaking of hand-crafted, the biscuits are made in house and are wonderful as well. The Potato Skin Hash was another amazing dish. Among the highest echelon of breakfast foods you love but should probably eat sparingly. Everything we had was prepared well and tasted great. Don't miss this one if you are in the area and want a hearty breakfast!

My husband and I opted for breakfast here on Sunday 4th of July weekend before heading back home. The wait was LONG however we didn't mind because from our experience it's usually a good sign. Hmmm... There was this guy walking around, but mostly behind the bar for the most part....his shirt was white and extremely DIRTY not food dirty but DIRTY DIRTY and I must say really grossed me out (he wasn't cooking or I would have walked out). Everyone was really nice but looked frantic/disorganized. They kept apologizing I think they knew it was an off day maybe they were extremely short staffed. A LOT of people were complaining... My husband & I sat at the bar so we noticed it all. My food was pretty good (not sure if it was worth the hour wait out side + plus hour wait inside) & my OJ was delicious. He LOVED his food so we were happy campers when we left. Will give it another try and see what happens.

We waited for an hour after putting our order in and still no food, no update, no apology. Every other table had turned over, got new patrons and they all had their food and we're turning again. We left after the table next to us turned twice before we got our food. If the food is anything like their service I would expect some cuddle time with the toilet.
(1)Matthew M.
Great food and friendly service. But to be honest, breakfast shouldn't take an hour to be prepared and served. The dishes are not complicated and seem to been being made one at a time.

I wish I could actually rate this place ZERO. Never have I had service so slow and incompetent. Such good reviews, we really went in with a good mood and easy manner. They need only be semi good to ensure a positive review... But they blew it, hard. We went for breakfast and ordered immediately, a family of 5 (so not huge). There were no other people waiting in line when we arrived, so didn't expect any hang-up with meal. However, after about 45min we noticed several new patrons arrived, seated and served ahead of us. The waiter was clearly disorganized, moving around frantically but not actually accomplishing much. Our table was ignored despite being there the longest. We eventually flagged a server down and asked about the food status. 20 min later (with cranky kids), still no service or even an ETA. After noticing several people getting served ahead of us (again) we reluctantly left. Never have I had to do that! Congratulations for an epic fail. Severely over rated establishment. Try some place else.

This place is so great! Food is sooooo good! Don't need an condiments. It is a liter "mom & pop" place. It's family run with the son as the chef. If I was local this would be a place I come on a weekly basis. If your a traveler, this is a must for a breakfast bite!
(5)Susan M.
Wow what can i say but Amazing. The chicken fried steak was the best I ordered the corn beef hash and we shared both breakfasts everything hot fresh the owner took care of us we really felt at home. He has several gluten free items 1 being the raisin french toast which i will try next time we stop great place.
(5)Feliii H.
The Apple cinnamon waffle and the cinnamon bun is a MUST!! Awesome place for breakfast. Was driving down from up north and decided to eat some breakfast so we stopped by. Wasn't disappointed. The customer service is on point and would definitely stop by again on my way back up. Good job guys.
(5)David A.
Stopped here on our way up coast, couldn't be happier. Small, great little spot! Sincere friendly staff and good food. Ordered the corn beef hash and it was a actual chucks of quality corned beef! Not to mention the bucket of toys to keep the kids busy while we waited for our food!
(5)Bob D.
Ate here over the labor day weekend so it was a little crazy but it was worth the wait for food. A father son own the place. The dad was scrambling the whole time - taking orders, filling coffees and ensuring everyone was happy. My wife had the bacon and eggs - she likes her bacon crisp and yes it was perfect! Some of the best bacon I've ever had.. The breakfast burrito was delicious - well seasoned and cooked perfectly. If you are adventuresome try the jalapeno bacon... regular bacon cured in jalapeno oil - wow!! Definitely try this place!!
(5)Tina B.
Totally worth the wait!!!! Extra delish! The hash browns are amazing. We had the flat steak-the spices were incredible. The gluten free French toast was omg so good. Loved it!
(5)Tiffany B.
I love this place and I can't stop telling people that live over 2 hours from it. I feel like everyone needs to experience this place! PLEASE. First of all, I love the ambience of it. It's always quiet, no music - just natural. It's not just regular breakfast here and nice service; it's unique and flavorful breakfast and honestly passionate service. What I love: homemade corned beef hash burrito and the potato skin hash with halapeno bacon and British style fried eggs.
(5)Yacoub A.
So this is my first review on yelp and I'm doing it because I've fallen in love with the worker bee cafe. The shakes are awesome, the breakfasts are awesome, and the staff is friendly. I've had the corned beef hash and the worker Benedict. Both were the best I've ever had.
(5)Where A.
Great place! Super vibe. The scramble, fresh oj, grilled cheese, breakfast burrito - are all amazing
(4)Corina R.
This is a breakfast and lunch only diner in Carpenteria. The service is very good, as soon as you walk in you aren't attended to. The breakfast I ordered was excellent. My eggs were cooked to perfection in and the home fries were delicious. Even my coffee was very good. Anytime I am passing through I try to stop here.
(4)A.L. C.
First time here and I'll definitely be back!!! Corned beef hash and eggs so flavorful like nothing I've ever had. My daughter had the rib eye steak sandwich. Juicy, tasty and GREAT fries. Service is excellent, don't come in a rush. Relax and enjoy.
(5)Kris H.
Great food, great service! You will definitely not be disappointed! Ownership definitely knows how to take care of their clients and put a twist to the food this is amazing!
(5)Paul E.
I had the half order of Corned beef hash with eggs..the best rye toast I've ever had. Very clean and excellent service. A great little breakfast spot..Family friendly
(4)Cindy B.
We stopped here on our way home from Montecito. it was so worth it. It is a small and cozy place. Service is outstanding. We felt so welcome. My son had the most amazing banana pancakes. I had the all veggie omelette which was very tasty. My husband had the scrambled eggs with JALAPEÑO bacon. That bacon was so delicious we wanted to get some to take home. Great food and amazing service! We will definitely be back.
(5)Courtney W.
Really liked this restaurant, tried the baked potatoes scramble was really delicious, working man's Benedict was really great too, love the seasoning they use on their hashbrowns, also had their blueberry french toast was a g re at amount of blueberries and very tasty.
(4)Viktoriya K.
This place serves the BREAKFAST of GODS!!!! Mind blowing menu and excellent service. Thank you for all the stories Rick :)
(5)Nancy G.
just got back from Carpenteria and i know its been awhile since we have been to the THE WORKING BEE CAFE and we knew the original owner and thought maybe we would stop by and have a great breakfast and found out they had new owners and along with the original owner went the quality of the food. I could taste the grill that made my waffle and they were very bland. The salt and pepper shakers and sugar shaker were not cleaned in awhile. Very disappointed to say the least. I will say the hospitality was great but they really need to get the quality of their food and presentation in order.
(2)Matt H.
I really wanted to like The Worker Bee. The place was packed when we walked in. We sat at the counter in the last open spots. We got our drinks and menus right away and it only took a few minutes for our order to be taken. Then began the wait. Around us tables began complaining about how long they'd been waiting. A couple sitting further down the bar said they'd waited for more than half an hour and wouldn't wait any longer. In what seemed to be a few moments the restaurant had cleared out, several leaving without the food they'd ordered. Tables that had come in after our arrival and order began receiving their food. We questioned where our food was and what the hold up might be, and we're told that the others receiving their orders had ordered food that was "more simple to make." When the food arrived, we were unceremoniously told that they had sold out of the biscuits we ordered. The bacon in the omelette was entirely too salty overpowering the flavor of the meal. A "bowl of fruit" costing more than $5.00 was nothing more than a side bowl with a few pieces of watermelon. I could have purchased a whole organic, cruelty-free, free range, gluten-free, seedless watermelon for less than half of that cost. The wait staff was out of their element. They looked lost, adrift. The owner was running around from one fire to another, seemingly distracted by whatever he'd been working on a few minutes before. He stopped past the counter and we asked for a refill on our coffees. He gladly agreed, turned around to grab the pot and was distracted by some other issue, wandering off leaving us empty. We expressed concern with the time involved in placing and receiving our order, the taste of the food and the condition of the staff. The response from the all distracted owner was that they'd been slammed earlier, and were struggling with the overflow crowd from a recently closed "Cajun Kitchen"? As for the saltiness of the omelette, it was our mistake. Apparently we should have ordered the meal without spice and applied it ourselves I've the ordered arrived. Is too bad. They seem like nice people. They are just incapable of dealing with a full restaurant.
(1)Jennifer W.
There's nothing better than a good breakfast. Worker bee is definitely the place to get an amazing basic breakfast! Their potato skin hash is to die for.
(5)Alan C.
So read the reviews online and was surprised to walk in and not many people here. We were seated and my wife ordered bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and hash browns. I ordered their version of biscuits and gravy with two sunny side eggs. The waiter delivered the food and pointed out the seasoning that they added to their food. It was remarkable and made the food more enjoyable. The bacon was thicker but cooked to perfection. The grilled the biscuits giving them a crispy outside and soft inside and you can take the freshness of the gravy and the season was great. I added cholula only because I love spicy food. The portions of food were not big but not small. Enough to satisfy us and allow us to taste all of the food and enjoy it. Would we come back absolutely because the price was worth the food:)
(4)Kerry P.
Jalapeño bacon is on point. Add it into a scramble and it's even better. Also, homemade biscuits and option of fresh eggs. What a great start to the day! Also, I love their water conservation practices. Only serve water on request and then then after a table leaves, they pour the water into a bowl to save for alternative uses. Perfect breakfast spot in the perfect town. I recommend it.

I was heading back to Monterey from SoCal when i stopped for breakfast. I was with my mom and younger cousin. I found this place on yelp and stopped in. It was a cute little place. Family owned and ran. It took a second to get our drink order, but they were pretty busy, and i totally understood. But when we placed our food order it came out pretty quick! My cousin and I wanted the grilled cheese, which was really good and their french fries were very good. You could pick whatever kind of cheese you want which is nice! My mom got the cinnamon roll. It was HUGE! we all had to help her eat it. It was pretty sweet, and super good. The service here is great and the place is pretty clean. If you are in the area, or looking for a place to stop on a road trip, deff try this place !!!
(4)Damien W.
The best coffee ever in the whole Country! The food is also amazing, the owner and the staff are all so friendly. The menu is quite large and can satisfy every taste. The food is fresh and cook delicately. The price comparing to quality is excellent, and you will get much more food than you will get in a chain like Starbucks. I strongly recommend this place to everyone! The atmosphere and the music are good. It makes all the clients relax and talkative to anyone. We stayed in Carpinteria for a week and were so happy to find this place. We were there everyday. Local and fresh food is so much more tasty then Starbucks. Hope this place will be there forever!
(5)Kali J.
Wonderful food, but some of the slowest service I have ever experienced. More than 50 minutes to get four fairly simple breakfasts, no apology or explanation. However, when it arrived the food was spot on. Especially good was the corned beef hash and jalapeño bacon. This little cafe is worth checking out but only if you have some time to spend.
(4)Mr S.
Breakfast was good, but the customer service could use some polish...We had to continuously flag down the server for anything needed. Prices are a on the high side, for breakfast
(3)Cecilia O.
All I have to say we waited 50 minutes for our breakfast...way too much. We thought about just getting up and leave which is what the person next to us did.
(2)Chuck M.
Best corned beef & eggs anywhere! ...according to my wife, the corned beef connoisseur! Everything is made in house. Tasty biscuits, the best gluten free toast, free range eggs for extra charge. Cool atmosphere. Nice owner. This is our new favorite breakfast place. Excellent omelets.
(5)Chan'tel G.
It was either here or Cajun Cafe and sooo glad we chose this cute little diner. Customer service first of all was amazing...our waiter who I believe may have also been the owner was very kind and did great at recommending the best menu choices. A cute little tin teapot held the door open and invited us to something like home, and they certainly seemed to care that we felt that way. Apparently they have a history of taking a bit of time to prepare your meal, but our wait wasn't long at all. My friend ordered the corn-beef and hash, and I opted for a 3 egg scramble with toast. I loved mine, but seriously...get the corn beef and hash. Hers was soooo good!! I seriously ate off of both of our plates like a greedy hippo haha. It was my first time trying corn-beef and hash anywhere and more like her 800th, but she's vouching and calling it the best. We seriously talked about it all day it was so good. If you're anything like me, you might bust out in a dance move followed by an "Mmm" in the key of C. I want some right now geesh!! Everything is so filling here and prices are reasonable for the large portions you receive. I recommend taking a walk down to the state beach following your meal to let or settle. This is a good place to come if you're really hungry. They have some gluten-free options too. I didn't get a chance to check it out, but they also said they have an area in the back for your 4-legged friends as well. Enjoy!
(4)Vanesa M.
Great service and great food. I had the two eggs with bacon and a side of toast with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns have a great flavor and everything tasted great. Our waitress was very friendly! Would Def come back when on vacation again!
(4)Nicole H.
Breakfast was pretty delicious. Corned beef and hash, amazing. Eggs, bacon and hash browns, delicious. If you are in Carp, go to this cute little spot. Service was friendly!
(5)Lynda T.
Great place for breakfast and lunch! Wonderful choices of gluten-free bread, including for French Toast and Cinnamon Coffee Cake and Chocolate Pecan Coffee Cake, homemade by the owner! Robby was great. He brought me and my girlfriend long-stemmed daisies, which they appear to do regularly, as there was a stack of fresh-cut daisies on the counter. Diner is adorable and super clean! A great place to eat near the beach in Carpinteria!
(5)Carl M.
The service was great. Quick coffee and water, the most important start for any breakfast house. The menu didn't have many egg / omelette dishes. My wife ordered the gluten free fresh toast which was very good. I ordered pancakes which were only OK. The biggest mistake so many breakfast houses make is trying to cook giant pancakes; they're never thoroughly cooked. It's worth a visit, the chalk menu had many new items also.
(4)Veronika S.
I gave a lecture at UCSB a few years ago and a recommendation lead us here for breakfast...twice. The food is fantastic. Service is great, everyone is super nice and it is really affordable.
(5)Gabby C.
Great service and awesome food!! We sat at the bar and just enjoyed ourselves. The guy behind the counter was super nice and friendly. I really enjoyed just coming here, eating good food and chilling out to classic rock. Will def be back again on my next visit out here. Also, the hash browns ARE fantastic!
(5)Jeri T.
I had to the blueberry French toast and it was awesome. Rarely do I eat French toast without syrup but this was an exception. Yum. Excellent service in this cute little place. Thanks.
(4)SoCal C.
Went three days in a row and they appear to be out of business. Calls with no answer. No phone message.

Decent breakfast in Carpinteria, CA (where? huh?) I'm not really sure how Carpinteria does breakfast, but it's a quaint little beach community south of Santa Barbara (about 15 minutes). I was lured into here by their pictures of their table-top jars of honey, and their 15+ hour slow cooked corned beef (for their corned beef hash). I was kinda hoping this spot was more honey-centric. When I asked for honey (for my biscuits), I was given the generic bear-shaped bottle of honey. Maybe I was expecting something cool out of "Worker Bee Cafe." yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… Corned Beef Hash - The meat really tasted like it's been cooked for some while, it was very soft! BUT, disappointed to find that there were way more potatoes than meat; didn't like the ratio especially because they pride themselves of their slow cooked meat. After a couple of bites, meat was gone and left with a lot of potatoes. Eggs and biscuits were good/standard. Worker's Benedict - JY got this dish, and he said it was tasty. It was covered in lots of country gravy. Instead of a traditional English Muffin, there were thick slabs of biscuits (a win, clearly). Also instead of ham, there were breakfast sausages (another win). SHOUTS TO JY SHOUTS TO CARPINTERIA, CA: Home of the California Avocado Festival (first weekend of October every year!). Worker Bee's Cafe is right in the middle of the Avocado Fest, so it's convenient to look around the local festival after your meal.
(3)Alex C.
Waited over an hour for food to arrive after ordering. Server argued when we suggested the wait was long. Food arrived mashed together on too small a plate so eggs were soaked in blueberry juice for examplr. Quality was average. Don't go here if you want atmosphere ,service, and a good breakfast.
(1)Chelsea S.
Love it! I come to Carpinteria a lot. And stopping in here with my best friend was the best idea. The owner served us and sat us out back so we were able to have mimosas (city laws won't allow alcohol to be served outside in the front.). The food was delicious, the service was great and the homey feel was so comforting! I will definitely be back!
(5)Candace B.
Bad service ....had to ask multiple times for coffee and it took an hour literally an hour to get the oatmeal I ordered and there was only 5 people in the cafe....just bad all around service I don't recommend this place to anyone who's trying to grab breakfast
(1)Susan F.
Great blueberry pancakes and corned beef hash. Service friendly but sometimes slow on weekends til after morning rush. Friendly service always. Some outside tables available.
(4)Cort B.
Enjoyed the most delicious breakfast here yesterday. My guy and I both ordered the Farmers Benedict per one of the recommendations of our great server who ALSO happened to be the father of the chef! He advised us to "try everything" before we added any salt/pepper/ketchup to change the way the chef intended; a proud father clearly. And boy, was he right. Everything was just perfection and the service was lovely. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!
(5)alexis c.
This is literally the third time I have walked out after putting a drink order in and then being abandoned. Third. Three times. And there was a table next to us that did the same. And it's a shame. Because the food is good! But they refuse to hire the help they need. Here's the set up: a counter that seats like 15, three booths for 6-8, four 4-tops and four 2-tops (inside) and three tables outside. For this potentially 50 person restaurant they have two waiters, sometimes three when the poor kid they have running covers a table. There's no system for who does what. Often times all tables will clear and EVERYONE clears.... Which is great cause then you seat 6 tables at once. They also don't track who came when. So today we were there 39 minutes with our coffee and milk with the baby (having a baby doesn't signal get these people out before mayhem here...) and some people sat next to us and a booth filled and they got orders taken within 5 min of sitting. Insane. So it's a mess. Good food if you can get it. But you can't.
(1)Amber T.
Hair in my breakfast. Owner was rude told me the chef is bald and laughed at me. Then took my plate and promptly gave us our bill without the breakfast that I didn't eat on the bill. I Felt humiliated he embarrassed me in front of customers. I would have been happy if they offered to remake my food. Instead they were rude. I left embarrassed and hungry. Sad it was my fav place for breakfast. I will never come back here
(1)David B.
I will admit that our experience might be an anomaly but frankly if I never saw the place again, it would make my day. My wife and I entered the establishment at about 8:45 AM and should have known there was a problem when saw only 1 couple. We seated ourself as there were no employees evident. We waited and waited and finally, even though a couple of employees were walking around, 5 minutes later someone finally approached us and took our drink order. Ultimately he returned to take our food order. We asked what kind of oil they used in the kitchen as my wife is allergic too Soy and all vegetable oil contains oil. The server finally returned to say that yes, they did use Soy oil. As a result I advised him that we would be leaving as we couldn't eat there so could we please have our check for the tea. The crowning blow was when the server asked if I had any food allergies and when I said no, he replied that I could eat then. When I replied that I certainly wouldn't eat in a place that my couldn't eat at, to which he replied well we do have oatmeal that she could eat. Needless to say, at that point, after finally getting the check for the tea, I paid and we left. Not a good experience in any way!
(1)Nathan A.
Great food for a good price. I got the corned beef hash at the recommendation of the server. It was fantastic and the meat really shines. Very tender, juicy, and delicious. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff was friendly and talkative. I'll come back soon.
(4)Molly K.
Seriously? Terrible service. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and there were numerous errors in the order. We didn't even get an apology or acknowledgement. No one refilled our waters at any point. I'm amazed the reviews are so positive.
(1)Lexie H.
My family and I were headed to breakfast and saw the good reviews on yelp about this place. Unfortunately it was far from a pleasant experience. They could not accommodate a family of 5, and would not move the tables. Our dad was sitting at a table across from us, and we felt uncomfortable as it was our last day together. The table we were seated at was facing longways, so we turned the table so we could all face comfortably together, and leave one more table to seat a different set of customers, too. A few moments later, the owner came out livid, yelling that we couldn't move a table. Then he proceeded to make a huge scene and scream to all of his workers that moving our table 90 degrees was completely unacceptable. We decided to leave and take our business elsewhere, and the owner had the audacity to ask us to pay for our orange juice on the way out. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
(1)Danielle R.
Worst service. It took forever. They messed up all our orders. My hash browns tasted like someone dropped a container of onion powered in it. The fresh squeezed orange juice was good.
(1)Chris N.
Wow! Absolutely, hands down, the BEST gluten-free cinammon raisin french toast I've ever had! As a family owned business, the father seved us and his son cooked up amazing food in the back. The mother is gluten sensitive and that has translated into a tasty mix of gluten-free dishes on the menu. Whatever you do, stop here for your next meal!!!!
(5)Jodi B.
If you have endless time to wait for a table, your order to be taken, and then your food to be served, this is a great place. If you'd like to eat in a timely manner, find someplace else.
(2)Amanda H.
I come here A LOT and typically do to-go orders on Sunday, and today when I called the owner, who is always anxious and spacey, answers and says they aren't doing to-go orders because they are busy. What the F does it matter? It's an order and I'm not taking up a space in your place of business. Also, it's money, from a long-time customer that you are turning away?! Psh.... The reason we order to go is because their service is slower than molasses even when the place is empty so maybe he should hire some more people because the reason we take out is because it has taken over 45 min for our breakfast to come with less than 4 tables of customers in your entire restaurant. Good luck WB, won't be seeing you for a while!
(1)Tammy S.
Very good breakfast. The food came out quickly and the server was by himself. Even though it was really busy he was very attentive and refilled our coffee when needed. My omelet was excellent and the hash browns were nice and crisp on the outside and really creamy on the inside!
(4)Cristin C.
Awesome breakfast! No salt or pepper needed. Owner very personal and interacted with my 2 year old. Will definitely be going back again.
(5)Kaarin C.
Great food, great service! Food seemed to take a little while coming out but that could be because the people next to us had muffins and oatmeal while we had omelets and chicken fried steak. Food was definitely worth the wait though. Omelet had all the veggie choices you wanted for no extra cost and I got my favorite combination and it was so much better then most places! The goodies were actually cooked together not just thrown in the middle to warm up and the biscuit was fluffy and moist. Even though food took a bit we were getting consistent refills from the staff and help if we wanted anything. I definitely recommend them.
(5)Barry P.
After reading reviews of the breakfast, I thought this place would be great. The review mentioned Apple cinnamon waffle, but my waiter did not know what I was talking about. I ordered waffles which appeared cold with sausage and egg. I heard two ladies as they were walking out say that this was the best breakfast they ever had. Well, that definitely was not my experience.
(3)Ashley B.
I always love coming here - all of the workers are friendly and attentive and the ownership is great, too :) This is an excellent place to come for breakfast and mimosas, I almost always end up here with my friends! As for the food, I've enjoyed everything I've gotten. When I ate meat, the corned beef hash was always my favorite thing to order.. but their vegetarian stuff is yummy, too. Plus, the food tastes fresh and comes out pretty fast even when they're busy :)
(5)Lisa Y.
Can't understand the hype. Food wasn't good. I had the deconstructed corned beef. Fatty. My egg came over well not medium. It took almost an hour to get food. Unapologetic service. Facial haired men cooking which is a health code violation in LA I had to ask for a new fork. The one provided was caked in dried yolk.
(2)Amanda S.
Great service and delicious food! We came up for breakfast with a toddler and dog this morning hoping to find a spot on the patio. We had no trouble getting seated on the back patio with a high chair and a dish of water for the pup. I have Celiac disease and was happy to see plenty of gluten-free options on the menu. The cinnamon raisin French toast was perfect. My one year old enjoyed her berry coffeecake and my husband enjoyed a breakfast burrito with jalapeno bacon. We will be back again and again!!!!
(5)Alex H.
So i have heard mixed reviews from co-workers - mostly not so great things, not horrible, but just "ehhh"... HOWEVER, In my opinion the breakfast here is AMAZING!! Maybe it's hit and miss or depends on what you order, but friends let me tell you...the french toast is fluffy, crispy on the outside and oh so tasty. The hash browns are crispy and garlicy and delicious. While the ambiance isnt great, the food was bomb! And it's a diner in a laid back beach town, not a high end restaurant. i am a fan. :)
(4)Kyle M.
Amazing! Had the corned beef hash and was probably the best I've had. Everything is made from scratch. The owner (I didn't catch his name) served us and was amazing. I've never seen someone so passionate about breakfast.
(5)Rick B.
Great food. Great location. Service was only okay. Had the chicken fried steak...nice. The wife had their original Eggs Benedict dish...fantastic. Homemade biscuits are quite rad. Hash browns are amongst the best I've ever had.
(4)Richard K.
Absolutely fantastic brunch! Fantastic eggs, bacon, and the potatos - OMG!!! The food does take a while, but its GREAT FOOD, not FAST food!!
(5)Brittany M.
This place is super kitschy and quaint, and the food is really good. Portions are really big and super tasty. Plan to be hanging out awhile because food takes FOREVER to get to you. It's worth the wait, but be prepared!
(4)Tony F.
Outstanding service, great food, and gluten free french toast! Wow, this place is really what small businesses should use as a model. This is what it's all about! The workers here are so kind and make you feel more than welcome. It was an all around fantastic experience! Thanks Worker Bee Cafe!
(5)Nicole K.
I always get the best service and say thank you to that, but its the amazing food I go back for. ... simply perfect :)

Great breakfast and great service! Omelette was fantastic and spiced potatoes made the meal
(5)Heather F.
Good breakfast and lunch in an intimate, cute environment. Make sure you're in no hurry when you come here though. Service is friendly but rather slow. On this trip I noticed a couple updates to the menu. They now offer several gluten-free specials and a small selection of local beer.
(4)Jeff T.
We went here for breakfast early this morning, I ordered the chicken-fried steak, it came with eggs and hash browns. The hash browns had been heavily seasoned with a garlic seasoning. I did not like the hash browns, heavy garlic in the morning is just not my cup of tea. Unless you like garlic seasoning on your potatoes early in the morning, I would tell them to leave it off. Tried to talk to the owner about this and he seemed unconcerned, he said that it was a seasoning that his son had made up and they put it on all the potatoes. Hope this helps.
(2)Kari R.
Homemade Corned Beef Hash was amazing, best I've ever had. We sampled a little of everything, this place is unbelievable. Rick is the one of the man behind this amazing food, thank you! Till next time :) the entire staff was friendly (sorry didn't get names).
(5)Misty D.
This is a cute little diner in Carpinteria...and boy is it tiny inside and packed! Which was a good sign walking in. I came here for breakfast and was very pleased with my meal, the eggs and hash. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The service was a little slow, but understandable as crowded as it was. You could see how hard the staff was working. I will definitely be back when in the neighborhood. Great place and atmosphere.
(3)Pearl J.
Great place to have breakfast if you are ever in Carpinteria. The breakfast menu is extensive, but I recommend getting the corned beef and hash..good solid pieces of corned beef...yummy! Service is kind of slow. We waited about 45 for our food, but maybe they were short staffed for the day?!!! La la LOVED that their patio is pet friendly!!!!!!!!!
(3)Carmel G.
What a great place in Carpinteria My husband, 1 year old son and I biked from Carpinteria state beach to this place and easily locked our bikes in the designated area. The outside of the building mentioned that they had patio seating. So we walked straight to the back where we saw a male employee wrapping up silverware. He seated us and took our drink order. He came back and told us about the days special. I got the croissant sandwich and my husband got the huervos rancheros and we ordered silver dollars for our son. It took a little longer to come out but the other older gentleman brought us out toys for our son to play with and they checked on us regularly. When I went up to go to the restroom that's when I saw that our server was also the cook. He was cooking and smiling and saying hi to guest as they walked by. The food was delicious and my husband loved his food. It was spicy with fresh salsa a fresh tortilla at the bottom and it was huge. He ate all of it. We will definitely be back next time was visit.
(4)Stacey L.
Everything was so delicious! I had the potato skin hash with jalapeño bacon. Incredible. Worker Benedict, biscuits and gravy, and three egg scramble all perfect. We'll be back!
(5)Kris N.
Even though we went in 20 minutes before they closed, we were never rushed to order, eat or pay. Great atmosphere, lots of healthy options for my kids and the service was excellent. The giant cinnamon roll is AMAZING! Order two because everyone at your table will steal giant bites of yours!
(5)S C.
I stopped I here by chance on a trip to the area; what a great little place. The owner makes a fantastic selection of gluten free options from scratch and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. I had the gluten-free cinnamon French Toast and it was amazing. Highly recommend checking it out and grabbing a bite. If I'm back in the area, I'll be here again for sure.
(5)Jin M.
I like the Worker Bee Cafe. I have breakfast here at least once a month and the food has been consistently good. The prices are reasonable and the plates generous. My only complaint about this place, is that they make you ask for condiments instead of just giving them to you. I know, I know it sounds ridiculous. But when I eat, I don't want a lecture about how the food is "perfectly seasoned" and "doesn't need condiments." If I want hot sauce or ketchup, I don't need to be told that I really don't want it. Ugh! I think the manager or whatever he is, is well intentioned. He just needs to stop it!! I will return, and I would also recommend to friends and family.
(4)Lyssa G.
My beau and I have our new pit stop as we drive up the coast. The home fries were AMAZING. A must get. As I looked around though everything looked amd smelled sooooo yummy. Service was quick and nice.
(5)Amy C.
I'm devastated to report the awful customer service I received today. I can safely say it is the worst I have had in my whole life! Hubby and I came here and ordered breakfast this Sunday morning. It took a while for food and my daughter finished her baby food before our meal even got to us. When our food finally arrived my husbands order was incorrect (I can attest to this even though the owner stated it was right - ummm, isn't the customer always right?). My husband asked him to take the potatoes back and leave the rest of the food since we were on a time crunch with the baby and all. He agreed, but when my husband got up to retrieve something from inside the restaurant (we were on the back patio) he snuck the plate away. My husband caught him inside, asked for the other food back, so... Here's the kicker... The "chef" threw the plate down on the counter. My husband asked him what the problem was and he replied "$&@! You!" Right in front of the owner. Hubby looked at the owner, flabbergasted, and the owner just played it off as if it was my husbands fault for wanting his order to his liking. Insane! Awful experience, insulting behavior, they don't deserve our money nor do they deserve other business if this is how they treat their customers. Bring Oscar and Jamie back! P.S. The original review was about our experience with the previous owners!!!!
(1)Amanda I.
Amazing breakfast!! The service is great. Would defiantly come back and dine here. Jalapeño bacon is to die for
(5)Shaeley S.
All I can say, is do not be fooled by the couple of bad reviews on this restaurant who do not have a justifiable reason. This place is absolutely amazing. It is a small/ busy diner Hense the worker bee because they are constantly moving. The hash browns are the best I have ever tasted. They are cooked to perfection and are not very greasy at all, and the staff is so nice and friendly. I will def. be returning next time I go out for breakfast.
(5)Ryan U.
Food is decent at this place.....but I have to say the owner is a prick! The rest of the staff is pretty cool but the owner not so much. First we walk in and there were plenty of open tables but we chose to sit at the one by the window. The owner comes over and said that he needs to save that table for a party of 4 or more. So he asks us to move. Order a water and he brings it to the table with no ice. When I asked him if they had Ice he replies yes and walks away. I have to get his attention again and let him know I would like some ice. 5 mins later a party of two walks in and he seTs them in the same table that he just kicked us out of! Next I am sitting here with an empty cup of water that he walks by at least 5 times. The owner is an idiot with poor customer service! The only word I can think of to describe this guy is...jack@&$
(1)Fernando S.
This was the worst experience i have ever had at a restaurant. Went on mothers day and after an hour after placing order the rest of the guests had their food and started leaving and we asked whats up with our order. They admitted they lost our ticket/order and will push our order through after taking our order again. To add insult to injury after another 45 min the owner came over and said they will cover our coffee. Cover our coffee!?!? I asked if at least they would cover 1 plate and the guy was not willing to do that. I pressed a hit and he reluctantly agreed. What a tight cheap mother f'r. On mothers day with my mom right there? Horrible. Never ever ever going there and i hope they learn some customer service and don't be so tight after really messing up. The only reason we didnt leave is we were starving. Don't go here!!!!
(1)Eric M.
Really enjoyed the homemade corned beef hash, farm fresh eggs and biscuit. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Also had the freshly squeezed orange juice. My wife had the steak and eggs which was good too. Especially liked the crisp hash browns. Service was attentive and extremely friendly. You could not ask for a better place to have breakfast. I'd come back if I were ever in town again.
(5)Daniel P.
Great find! Came in for breakfast and found a hidden gem! Has a great variety of American style breakfast and the homemade corned beef hash is out if this world. To top it off...great music selection! Great for families..they were so helpful and accommodating with our family. Will be back
(5)Liz M.
Good coffee, good gluten free bread, yummy scramble. Fun, informative waiter, so Carpinteria-ish.
(5)Chava S.
This place should be called sleeping bee. I waited over an hour for my food and no one apologized or seemed to recognize that was not okay
(1)Aaron N.
This isn't the average "diner" type of breakfast restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting, the service attentive and gracious as you'd commonly associate with a diner but the food is incredibly delicious. There's an attention to flavor and ingredients in every dish. This attention to detail seems to take a commonly placed menu item and turn it into a gourmet delight usually reserved for, or seen in dinner items. A must if you're in Carpinteria or traveling through on your way to LA or SF
(5)Doug K.
The Worker Bee is the best breakfast place within 20 miles! The Worker Benedict is by far my favorite breakfast anywhere. The gravy is fantastic, poached eggs perfect, and the hash browns are the best anywhere. We come once a week and have been doing this for over a year. We drive 20 miles also. We have never been disappointed.
(5)Lajaune W.
New owners have taken over the cafe. They kept the menu the same with a few changes and additions. Remodeling hasn't been completed, so surroundings is a work in progress. The owner was working behind the counter. Very energetic and engaging. I had the Workers Benedict. The cook seemed to use Season All or Season Salt for flavoring. Reminded me of home cooking. A little one note on the flavor but just appreciated that it did have flavor. The Benedict came with hash browns which was ok. Just needed a little more salt but the top layer of crispy golden brown potato on the hash browns was perfect. Crunchy layer outside, soft potato underneath. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu and seeing his vision for the cafe.
(3)Josh B.
Delicious! Love the cleaned up decor and the food has been seriously upgraded. Special huevos rancheros is spectacular!
(5)Emma Lee D.
Came here with all my family which is by the way is 6 of us total. It was busy as usual on sun morning. But we were able to get some seats at the bar. My mom and I order the mimosa which were by the way pretty good and strong. Actually was surprised they served some alcohol. I order there eggs Benedict, my mom order an omelette and sisters got pancakes. My dish was super delicious. My moms omelette was Great as well must say one of the best I have yet. The service was pretty great but it took quite some time before we got our food. Only reason I gave it a 4 star was because of how long we waited for our food but worth the wait. The service was super friendly and loved how they gave my baby sister some toys to keep her busy while we waited. I would recommend it and will be returning to this diner as I live so close to it. Just maybe next time I will come in on a weekday so I won't have to wait too long.
(4)Deanna L.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and the new owners are amazing. Super nice and very apologetic about the wait today. The food came out delicious and I was impressed by the care taken to make sure our order was correct. I will be back here again and again with my own son.
(5)Tony G.
Came here down from Ventura. Wanted to have breakfast. Omg I loved this place friendly fast service. I had the chicken fried steak was the best one I ever tasted. And the hash is so amazing. Love this place
(5)greg p.
Wow! Did I eat at the same place as all the other people that raved about the food here? While on a drive down from the Central Coast my wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. She had a burger, I had a tuna sandwich. Both were just simply bad. The burger being cold and basically inedible. I'll spare you the details but the service was even worse than the food. If you are driving through town looking for a place to eat and come across the Worker Bee Cafe, my suggestion would be to keep driving.
(1)Scott S.
Great food, great service, our regular stop after church.
(5)Rick P.
They were open today and busy right before closing time. The corned beef hash and chicken fried steak were good as always. Worth the trip from Ventura.
(5)Eric G.
French Toast were the best I have had! Hash brown taste home made. Great breakfast place, haven't tried lunch but I bet it's good.
(5)Timothy C.
Great place. Mostly locals, with a busy diner counter. Family freindly. The owner was gracious and explained his goal to provide as many gluten - free items as possible. The free - range farm fresh egg substitute for a buck Is much appreciated. My corned beef hash was wonderful, with large, peppery, crispy potatoes. A huge tasty homemade biscuit and black coffee was the right choice this morning! I would highly recommend The Busy Bee for breakfast.
(5)Michael K.
First Yelp review; inspired by a well-expressed sentiment on one of their chalk boards. Corned Beef Hash was amazing. The co-owner explained that it's cubed rather than shredded to preserve moisture. Did the trick! Father/son ownership reflected in the warm personality effused from every interaction. Cute bumble bee decor to emphasize the name. Family members got an omelet and pancakes--both were fantastic. Highly recommend eating here. Other great reviews led me here, and I hope this will do the same. Only negative (gotta be fair) was the slightly awkward chair to table height ratio. Chairs could've been a bit higher or tables a bit shorter...but it hardly detracted from a wonderful breakfast.
(5)Evelyn G.
The service has improved and food continues to be delicious. Definitely coming back...
(5)S S.
Went here for lunch today. We were so excited to try it... Food pics looked great! We walked in... Not a soul in sight, except for one corner table of people eating. NO other customers, and apparently no employees! Door was open though. We waited inside a few minutes, then left. What gives?!?!
(1)jay p.
The food is great here, and the owner is very friendly...if a bit busy. Every time we've been here, the staff has been overwhelmed. But....the food is most definitely worth the wait...especially the potato skin hash!
(4)Michael H.
We're from out of town and visited here as an alternative to IHOP or another chain in search of something a little more home style. Unfortunately, the owner couldn't handle a table being rotated to fit 5 people and threw a tantrum before we could get our food. If you're looking for a show to perk up your morning, highly recommend this place. He's a riot.
(1)K M.
Got 100 min or so? If you have an hour plus to wait for your food , then this is your place. Came here on a slow Sunday late morning and sat at one of the 2 tables outside since it was a nice day. There where empty tables inside so I figured it would not be too hard for the wait staff to keep up and give good service. Wrong. We waited almost 15min before someone came and took our order. We drank our coffee and began our wait. An hour and 10min later our food arrived. I ordered corned beef hash and a side of biscuits and gravy. We ordered french toast and a breakfast burrito as well. Mine was missing the biscuits and gravy. By the time the server came to check on us we had finished our food......asked what happened to the biscuits and gravy and he said he would check........10 min later ....no return from the waiter! My wife had to go into the restaurant to find out what was going on and try too get someones attention. Another 10 min later a guy, I think the manager came out and apologized for forgetting to tell our waiter that they had run out of biscuits! He substituted an English muffin and I asked for the ck. They charged me for the Biscuits and gravy! Had to bring it to the attenti0on of our waiter who decided to finally return to our table and bring the correct check. This has to rate as one of the worst service experience we have had. While visiting in Carp all our other dinning experiences have been great. Not today, 2 hours took get breakfast ....wast of time. I only give it 2 star because of the actually good corned beef hash, otherwise I would give it 0. French toast bland, soggy, and breakfast burrito was also very bland......all in all I would skip this place.
(2)James B.
Great breakfast joint. Drove from Orange County on our way to Carmel, this was a must to keep us trucking up north! Can get a little crowded as it's a small place but well worth the wait! Price is great, lots of good options for all diet types. My wife LOVES the fresh made cinnamon rolls! Charming little spot
(5)Drea R.
Such a wondeful place. Our waiter whom i think is also the owner was one of the nicest persons i have ever met ! We had a wait about 10 minutes for our foor but we didn't even care he was so nice and i think he was training a new employee i believe. I work in the food business so i know what it's like. Food was great,he kept checking up on us which was great.
(5)Alice L.
Very cute place. Came on a weekday and it was pretty empty. The corned beef hash was impressive with full large chunks of beef and home fries. Blueberry pancakes looked fluffy and satisfying. Awesome service and good drip coffee (no espresso).
(5)Jasmine M.
Hands down my favorite place to have breakfast in Carpinteria! Every time I've gone in here I have excellent service, and always enjoy my meal. They must have just opened the patio area in the back because that was not there the last time we went. It was pretty small, so we opted for eating inside. You can tell the servers in there work really hard to get the food out quickly, and are constantly walking around refilling your coffee and drinks. They have great typical breakfast food, but I always seem to vouch for the eggs and hash browns (which aren't too greasy, so two thumbs up )! I love the how cute this little café is, and since they are under new management it doesn't look as cluttered as it used to, and doesn't have that "sticky" feel that you sometimes get at restaurants. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area, I always leave satisfied (and full)!
(4)Anida M.
Easy atmosphere, fast service, friendly staff and yummy food. Perfect for an easy morning breakfast by the beach.
(4)Reid E.
This place is my new go-to spot in Carp! The waitstaff here is so wonderfully friendly and they really make the Worker Bee feel like a place you're always welcome. The chicken fried steak is my favorite but honestly, there isn't anything on the menu I wouldn't order. They give everything you order just that little something extra that keeps bringing you back for more. You won't be disappointed!
(5)Vivian K.
Nice place for brunch! I loved their home fries, but I would avoid their waffles! No matter how much syrup I poured onto them, it just kept soaking it up and disappearing. It was like a black hole absorbing it all so each bite was really hard to get through without some water. It was just really dense and I dont quite understand why. We were also seated outside in the back so service was not that great. Our waitor wasnt always around and at one point he just walked into the parking lot and didnt return for a while. My boyfriend and I had to sort of flag them down if we did want something, otherwise they would just ignore us. I was only in the area visiting a friend for the weekend, so I dont think I'd get to go back anytime soon to try it again. I do love mom and pop breakfast places like this though :)
(3)Sarah S.
I came here over the weekend with a couple of girl friends while on a birthday trip to Santa Barbara. The staff was AMAZING and the food was even better. A friend of mine asked the waiter if there were any alpacas around that we could visit and say hello to, and he came back ten minutes later with a hand drawn map! Our waiter was amazing, and the older gentleman (maybe the owner?) who brought us our food was fantastic. Any time I am in the area I will be sure to return. The Worker Bee Cafe turned my already amazing trip into an even better one.
(5)Ken R.
Compliments on the corn beef hash, perfectly seasoned chunks of slow cooked corn beef, meal comes with eggs. Very impressive breakfast with fresh ground coffee.
(4)Vivian L.
I don't know what brand the coffee bean they used? But it's best coffee in the town , for a week we stay in this nice amazing town , we visit bee cafe everyday to have amazing BF and friendly service to start our day .
(5)Patti L.
My husband and I ate at the cafe Monday morning at the recommendation of the hotel clerk. We were sorely disappointed! Nice location, nice atmosphere, nice music but that is where the nice ended. I ordered the French toast w/blueberries. It came out looking like a soggy blue mess! It would have been better if they would have just used fresh berries on top. My husband had the grilled biscuits and gravy. It was tasteless, like it was out of a can. Paprika was sprinkled on top for presentation, whoo, hoo - not impressed. The coffee was mediocre, plain Jane. I expected so much more from this place especially being in the center of Carpinteria.
(1)Eliel C.
We received great service from the owner himself. However the food took 40-50 minutes, which is never a good thing when you're hungry. The food was "ok". It felt like they put more emphasis into the size of the servings rather than the flavor of the food. The location is also very small and tight.
(3)Diana M.
Great place! At chicken fried steak it was delicious! The hashbrowns seemed fresh made not frozen! Very enjoyable place to eat very friendly staff got to meet the owner great guy
(5)Tessa B.
Fresh, hot, yummy. Good coffee. Quick, friendly service. Great beachy setting. It was a pleasant surprise.
(5)Emily B.
We looooove this place! We eat here weekly my husband is up Obsessed with the tuna salad! They have amazing breakfasts with awesome jalapeno bacon! The service is always excellent and everyone is so friendly!
(5)Kate B.
We were all so impressed with this place! The owner is so passionate and really cares about the high quality of the ingredients and it shows big time! We got the 2 egg plates, one with bacon and gravy biscuit and other with English muffin and they were super good. We also had a club sandwich with gluten free bread which rocked too. Came with a green salad and the greens were so high quality which is so refreshing. The coffee was very good and the service was tops. Come here and dig it!
(5)Nicolas L.
The service was terrible. With the abundance of breakfast places around, skip this one and get your eggs and hash browns somewhere else. This place will leave you unsatisfied. The prices are also high for this kind of food. You're better off going to lazy acres and making your own breakfast. I cannot recommend a place that made me wait an hour for eggs.
(1)Nutbelly P.
Excellent chicken fried steak and something really special about their pancakes. New owners of this place have turned it into something cooler and tastier than ever before. Delicious gluten free options too! :)
(5)Anna G.
Delicious! My husband has tried many many breakfast burritos and he said this was the best one he ever had. Cute place. Great service.
(5)Daniel C.
OWNER SAID F$&K YOU TO ME AFTER RETURNING AN ORDER TO BE CORRECTED! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER IN 30 YEARS OF DINING. After waiting over 20 minutes for my meal I politely informed the OWNER that something was incorrect. I asked that he leave my plate on the table and just bring the corrected side on another dish because I was so hungry and we had been waiting a while. He ignored my request and then proceeded to the kitchen window. I had my nine month old in my arms (calming her down because you know how babies can get) and followed him in to explain that everything else was fine I just wanted well done hash browns. He then tells the cook to return the dish. The cook AGGRESSIVELY THREW MY PLATE DOWN on the expo line right towards me. Stunned, I told them both "to forget about it. My family and I are leaving." The cook replied and said, "F$&K YOU!" Right in front of the owner AND MY DAUGHTER no less...and the owner didn't say ANYTHING! He just went on to tell me that the hash browns were indeed well done and that I was WRONG. Are you kidding me?! This was the WORST DISPLAY OF SERVICE FROM A RESTAURANT IN ALL OF MY LIFE. I have been visiting Carpinteria for over 30yrs and had been a patron of this restaurant since it was the Cadillac Cafe. The old owners would NEVER have allowed this. I AM SHOCKED that an employee said "F$&K YOU" to a customer, especially IN FRONT OF THE OWNER (and my little girl), and he didn't do a damn thing except tell me that I was wrong. Unbelievable! Shame shame! It turns out that the cook is actually the OWNER'S SON who is a part owner. I'm never going there again and for the rest of my life I will tell people to STAY AWAY FROM WORKER BEE. The next thing I write is a letter to the Carpinteria newspaper. I don't think they should get away with this type of behaviour. It's absolutely tragic...now every time I walk up Linden I have to be reminded of this travesty. Just sad, really sad. (The following is a response to the owner after he comments back accusing my wife and I that we "recruited" friends to write a bad review...completely BS and libelous. He never even addresses the original issue. Since Yelp allows the owner to have the "last word" I've decided to include this. See below after reading his response.) "Let's get one thing straight...whenever I walk into the Worker Bee, I'm delighted. I look forward to that same meal every time my wife and I decide to visit the Carp home. I NEVER have an "axe to grind" especially while in Carpinteria. How dare you insist that myself, or my wife, have "recruited" friends to write reviews. That's on them. I shared my review on Facebook, the local newspaper, and Carpinteria's Chamber of Commerce. I'm not my friend's keeper. They do what they like. As for you...one, you didn't even address the issue and two, what kind of owner-operator are you? You think that because you buy out an already thriving café that you can get away with this type of service or behavior. When a customer says there is something wrong then something is wrong, end of story. Your asshole son dropped the F-bomb to a customer and you didn't do a damn thing. You then insist that the customer was wrong...your hash browns were mushy white when I asked for well done. So in your eyes burning the surface is sufficient? I was absolutely calm when requesting that it be fixed. Why does it have to be such a big deal for your son, who apparently is co-owner and should know better, to fix the order? Why the attitude? And even better question, what world do you and your family live in where that kind of behavior is acceptable towards a paying customer, especially a regular? Honestly, I'm more sad than angry at this point. Just shameful, both you and your son. This event will never be forgotten, by all parties. People deserve to know what happened here." The End
(1)Katerina Y. Y.
Corned beef anything is delicious. Blueberry packed french toast large plate of 4 slices devoured. Definitely a great choice by the kids to come here. It wasn't so busy, maybe because it's midweek, so the waiter was very attentive. Delicious food. Definitely homestyle yummy.
(4)Meghan S.
Rick was our waiter/host, not only was he unstoppable providing service he took time to make everyone feel welcome and asked questions. The food was amazing as the homemade corn beef hash was excellent and so was the home fries. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes and the hint of garlic in the hashbrowns was divine. We will definitely be visiting again in the future.
(5)Rosemary S.
The new owners have TOTALLY changed this from an ok dive to an AMAZING cafe. Less decor, more delicious food. Most tasty home fries and blueberry pancakes!! My finace had the hash and eggs - said they were the best he's ever had. The waiter / owner was super attentive. The new owners make AMAZING food!!! Pancakes were so big and yummy! I really don't have words to express how delicious the food was. Sorry I only have one picture! Sad I used to drive to Ventura, didn't know about this gem. The corn beef is cooked fresh and it isn't all ground up and wierd. It looks like meat. The home fries are cruchy on the outside, soft on the inside and seem almost buttery on the outside. I'm going back tomorrow!!!
(5)Lylan T.
Great customer service and yummy Ribeye breakfast! Thanks Rick and Rick for taking us in after hours!
(5)Max Sander B.
It was great - service was top notch and food was delicious. Def worth a return trip.
(4)Brian F.
Delicious food, great service and a very personal touch. Wish I had something like this at home. Will definitely go back when in town.
(5)Arely S.
Most delicious food I have ever had. It's home made and perfect seasoning. Don't expect to come in and be served your food fast, it takes time to actually cook the food. Be patient it's well worth it. The service is great and they are very polite and welcoming. I visit from Arkansas every year and this was my first time to have breakfast at the worker's bee and can't wait until next year to go back. In love with their food!!
(5)Annie A.
Have been coming to Carpenteria for several years, but have never tried "The Worker Bee Cafe. We were looking for a place to have breakfast and based on yelps recommendations, decided to give it a try. We were happy we did. We were not in a hurry, so we did not mind the slower service. The owner was very personable as he went over the menu with us. I ordered the build your own omelet, yum! The hash browns were very good. Crispy crust and tender inside. The biscuits looked amazing. I wish I had ordered one instead of toast. My friend had the pancakes. Large and fluffy. Big enough to take some home. With a side of sausage. Perfect place for a leisurely breakfast. Will make this place a regular stop when we are back in town.
(4)Vivian M.
We will not be back. The server (Rick) pleasant and friendly but he was waiting on the whole restaurant (it wasn't that full). I ordered the egg/veggie scramble. It was bland, watery and the home fries were hard/not thoroughly cooked. The food took a while to arrive. For as long as it took for food to arrive one should expect the potatoes to be cooked fully. Don't waste your time coming in (especially if you're on a time crunch. Side note... they play 50's music, polka dot tables, linoleum is supposed to look like diamond plate..so maybe it's supposed to be a 50's joint. Then you look around and there's modern art. It just doesn't make sense. Despite the decor (which shouldn't matter) the food sucked!
(2)Adriana P.
We were seated wherever we wanted when we first walked in, we were greeted by Robbie and promptly given menus, our young son was given a bucket full of toys to play with. Rick Sr. Came by and gave us some great suggestions to eat; corned beef and hash. It was a wait but it was to be expected for fresh made to order food. The food was perfect!!! No seasoning needed. Kids pancakes we're great. 2 egg omelette and corned beef ands hash with jalapeños was excellent! The drinks never went dry and Robbie makes a mean hot chocolate and chocolate milk!! Three cheers for the two Ricks! We have told everyone we know to eat at the Worker Bee Cafe!!!
(5)Sam K.
Service was excellent! Coffee was delicious, as was the food!! Our waiter (possibly the owner?) was super nice and advised us not use salt or pepper until we tasted our food. None was needed. The jalapeno bacon was a delicious twist as well! We will be coming back again!! Thank you so much!!

Once again I wish there was something between A-OK and Yay! I'm A Fan... But since they're under new ownership, and I like to see nice people succeed, I'll do 4. Earlier in the morning, I asked the advice of a coffee shop waitress in Los Angeles where she would go if she had the day off, and her answer led me to Carpinteria for the day. I spent a little time on the beach, a little time driving around (industrial farm land), a little while walking (small town), and a little while at The Worker Bee Cafe. The WBC is slightly on the pricier side for a greasy spoon, but then again, none of the silverware I got had grease on 'em, the place is on the strip, it's a few blocks from the beach, in a touristy area... Atmosphere: Simple, charm. Staff: Very friendly. Speed: Quick. Food: Corn beef hash was nothing like I expected, but unexpected is why I try new places out. And overall everything was good. I betcha it gets crowded in the mornings, but when I went it was mostly quiet. Would I go back? Maybe. Would I go back to Carpinteria? Maybe. Was I happy I tried out a new place, in a town I don't remember ever visiting? Yes. BTW it's one exit south of Santa Claus lane... A dozen miles or so north of Ventura.

Went there with my son on Tuesday 5/27. We were seated right away. The whole front of house was being serviced by one guy (rick, I believe). He was hustling and provided above par service to all in the restaurant. He recommended the chicken fried steak (which was really really good). My son (11 yrs old) got the pancakes breakfast w/ blueberries (w one egg and bacon). It was $2 to add blueberries, a little steep, but that's what my son wanted. Both meals were really good and well portioned. Price overall was fair given small beach community. There was a special that seemed really Weird that day, a waffle covered with pulled pork and an egg. The guy next to us seated at the bar got it and commented how good it was. Will definitely return.

The nicest man in the world runs this place. Came here with a group of like 10 people and every single item was delicious. I swiped a slice of bacon from one of the kids in our group and OMG and WOW! Fantastic. I had the healthy Tuna Salad. It was excellent. I live in LA and have very high standards. This place is a jewel.

Great breakfast and lunch every visit, takes a little time to get your order - but well worth the wait.

Over an hour, no food, surly staff. Can't accommodate more than four. Was looking forward to the gluten free menu when the heavy set bearded host walked us to the back patio which is three tables on the walkway to the back alley and parking lot. From our vantage point we got to watch the cooks have a smoke with the host out back, the tall confused waiter scurry about ineffectively, and the bus boy make completely irrelevant and false statements like "let me get your check" and "your food is being plated as we speak". After a polite query directly with kitchen staff, an angry balding hash slinger told us he already pulled our ticket and to leave. Carpinteria is a great place, and Reynaldo's, Esau's, and the Cajun Cafe were all GREAT alternatives to this place. Too bad, but proof positive that the staff makes the place. Worst dining experience in years, however, I would welcome an effective response from management.

Tasty, super fresh eggs make such a difference at a breakfast place. They are light, fluffy and look like fresh eggs, not pale yellow nightmares you see elsewhere. For me, the eggs were the highlight of the last few visits to this cafe. The rest of the food was pretty tasty. The coffee is a bit bitter and had a burnt taste, that's my only real gripe. The new (ish?) owners and staff are SO much nicer and welcoming than that unhappy couple that used to own this place. That makes a huge difference in atmosphere to be able to walk into a place and be smiled back at, be greeted and treated kindly. Bottom line: Friendly, clean and good food.

1st time at Worker Bee Cafe. Hash browns, French toast & omelette's are delicious! I also loved their chocolate shake! I'll be back soon!
(5)Bailey D.
This place was great. I'm visiting from out of town and had breakfast here one morning. The specials were super tasty and decently priced (for california). The staff was friendly and although they were busy the food still came out in decent time. Great place and Id definitely recommend it to a friend!

I prefer not to write negative. However, I have had four experiences at Worker Bee since I first yelped about them in May of 2013. The food is tasty, but the service ?? The service is lacking something terrible. I really hope ownership can turn it around. I understand busy and that's cool, but it's not called the "service industry" for nothing. You got to acknowledge your customers even if you're gonna make then wait 40/50 minutes for their order....

I will begin by saying that we've eaten at the Worker Bee Café several times during our visits to Carpinteria. The last time we were there they still had their collection of bee trinkets and tchotchkes all over the place, but it seems they've renovated a little and have since changed the décor. That 's not an issue with respect to this review, just an observation. In the past , their food has been pretty good, so my review is not targeted at the quality of the food. We ate breakfast there this past Saturday, and they were short a server. It took nearly an hour to get our food. We were at the very limits of our patience (and hunger!!) They were clearly understaffed and they should have then closed the patio in the back because the one server who did show up could barely keep up with the orders. When we finally got our food, one of the staff apologized and said that they were down a server. Since we've been there before and have experienced the warmth of the owners and the very pleasant staff, I'm not holding this against them. They did however ask for feedback, good or bad, on their new chalkboard wall and therefore I am sharing my two cents here. Bottom line, if you're short on staff, don't have the patio open!!

Took a friend visiting from out of state to Carp for the day and had a late breakfast there. Fantastic food! So many gluten free options on the menu. We had an amazing gluten free french toast dish with blueberries, whipped cream and a side of farm fresh scrambled eggs. The gluten free cinnamon-raisin bread they use is amazing. Very thick, moist and flavorful. Fantastic and friendly service too! Explained all the specials and made recommendations - very caring staff.
(5)Rommel A.
Good place to grab breakfast. The atmosphere was great. I was here with a party of 5 and the food was delivered later than expected. Service was great as our server topped off juices, coffee consistently. The food was good. I ordered the corned beef and hash with the farm fresh eggs. It was good! I would return and try other items on the menu.

Thought I reviewed this place but I don't see it so trying again. We waited an hour for our food!!! Food was mediocre but by that time it would've taken a miracle to please us. Manager or owner was apologetic and gave us our coffees free. Turns out they're redoing the kitchen but still an hour is way too long to wait.

This is not your father's Worker Bee. If you are a local or have been to the Worker Bee in years past you understand what I'm talking about. This place used to be owned by Oscar & Jamie. An adorable older couple who gave their heart & soul to provide ambiance & an amazing standard of service & food. Jamie ran the front of the house while Oscar toiled away in the kitchen preparing the meals for everyone. Every once in awhile Oscar would stroll thru the café to greet the patrons. Everything from the coffee to the waffles to the fluffiness of the eggs this place WAS amazing. New ownership took over sometime last year. My wife & I had no idea until we walked in one day and one of the new owners politely greeted us and gave us a bit of his back story. We were a bit sad but welcomed the change and looked forward to he new energy the new owners would instill. We've been there twice since the new ownership took over and both occasions were consistent with the following: French Toast was "pretty good" and the waffles were poor. Undercooked and the batter lacked depth. The eggs were "fair" and the bacon...well...was bacon. It took OVER 30 minutes both occasions for our meal to arrive after being seated and the service was mediocre with a hint of complacency. I hope the new owners read this and re dedicate themselves to the standard of their food. Cajun Kitchen is right down the street and everything they serve is of the highest quality. I didn't have it in my heart to give the 2 stars I wanted to give. I'm optimistic about a comeback from them!

Rick knows how to run a diner that transports and elevates everybody who comes in with great conversation, music and delicious FOOD! Quick, tasty and genuine, Worker Bee Cafe has the recipe for success.
(5)Francesco C.
Great place for breakfast in Carpinteria, Owner is awesome and kind, everything is handmade, we had French Toast with fluffy local free range eggs and a delicious Omelette with the best sausages We ever tasted. The biscuit was obviously made that morning.
(5)Anthony A.
On the patio with my dogs. Do not eat here if your in a rush. The chicken fried steak and corned beef hash was worth the wait and service very friendly.
(5)Loren W.
Fun little cafe, everything looked good which made it hard to make a choice. Ended up getting the chicken fried steak and OMG it was perfect! The owner checked up on my table and was super friendly and really wanted us to love the food. Will definitely have to come back soon :)
(4)Paul M.
We were just looking for a quick, local place to grab lunch. Boy, did we pick the right place! The food is great, and the staff is very friendly. They treat you like an old friend. An extra star for using biodegradable to-go utensils and containers. It's in a great neighborhood, too! Lots of great little shops nearby.
(5)Chris B.
Great food but a long wait to get it. Chicken Fried Steak was good and so was the spinach omelette my wife had. Recommend if you are in the area and have a few hours to spare
(4)Johnny G.
Best breakfast in SoCal! My favorite is the Grilled Biscuits and Gravy!
(5)A S.
Pretty good diner food. Nice friendly place to stop by for a bite. They had a lot of gluten free menu items - a plus for some.
(4)Patrick W.
the new owners a real nice and enthusiastic about their food. Good coffee and great tunes.
(5)Roy W.
Very friendly efficient service and great food (if you're on a cheat day from your diet) Chili omelette special was great and the biscuits are heavenly.
(5)melanie h.
I loooove this place! I have been here 4x and always loved my meal. Friendly service and excellent food. Recommend their CORN BEEF HASH any day! The portions are big. my daughter loved the waffles with sweet apple and whip cream on top. We shared 2 dishes between 2 adults and a child and we still walked out STUFFED! The gluten free bread is soooo delish, and if u want dessert the Cinnamon roll pairs well with their coffee. The owner's so friendly. Also they have a patio for people with dogs.
(5)Courtney M.
It was just okay. We really wanted to like it, but it was nothing special. Although, the hash browns were quite good and so was the coffee. Everything else was just fine. Nothing to rave about.
(3)Jacqueline G.
This place is terrific. Friendly! Delicious! You must try the chili omelette. Some of the best chili I've had. And the biscuits were made fresh, crumbly and tasty. On the sweet side the waffle was melts in your mouth. The atmosphere is very old school diner with art work that added a modern touch. Great place, great location.

Okay, so this review is being written Three Weeks After I came to this place... So no biasing here... I found myself in Santa Barbra a few mondays ago delivering some stuff, once that was done I drove to Carpinteria to hang at the beach for a few min. Hungry for lunch, I came to Yelp for local places.. I was shocked at the number of mexican joints displayed, but I get enough of that home in LA.. I digress.. I wanted a local, low-key, home run joint... I walked into this place around 1pm after finding a free parking lot in the back. w00t! for free parking! I walk into an Empty place, figuring the lunch crowd left a bit earlier, and not realizing they close at 2.. I'm greeted by a tall, nice guy who I findout is the owner. Its a chill, low-key joint; sweet! He says sit anywhere, so I cop a seat at the window end of the bar so I can people watch.. Pickup the menu and have a look around, keeping in mind what I've read here. I order the Worker Benedict, he asks which kinda spuds I want, initially I think home fries until he suggests the hashbrowns as they can be used like a mop with all the gooey goodness.. Agreed! A sprite, no ice, and we're good! We chit-chat a couple times before the plate comes out, then it's grub time! Okay, so my honest opinion on this plate.. I'd of liked a lil more sausage and an extra cup of gravy, it's bangin! Hashbrowns are the only way to go here.. They were seasoned so well, I could eat a plate of just hashbrowns. But then lets talk about the biscuit and gravy.. Dear my! Just gimme a plate of that stuff! Really the only disappointment, was the small piece of sausage and maybe a size too small eggs.. But that's a portion size complaint, not a quality or taste complaint.. =) So after realizing this place closes at 2, the owner sits down with a plate of french toast in the adjacent booth, and we proceed to chat and in-a-way have lunch together. Here is where I find out about the place.. It's a Father-Son run place as of Oct '12.. If that's not saying enough already, add to the fact the Owner/Father has an excellent (imo) idea of how to go about doing things the right way! I thoroughly enjoyed talking and having lunch with him, as well as learning about his place and his journey getting to where they are now. If it wasn't for the gas money to get there and back, I'd be here several days a week! Seeing as how that's not really budget or time friendly drive for routine basis, I will then come here Anytime I'm near the area! It's quite refreshing to see a family run place, that does it right, and has the right (again, imo) mentality on doing things right. I'm not sure even if my phone wasn't dead when I got here, I would have taken them up on the yelp review/sans sales tax offer... It's a great advertising idea with minimal fiscal impact. Again, harking to why I appreciate how the owner is going about things. .fin.
(5)N F.
Excellent food! My husband had French toast and I had the corned beef hash. Seriously the best I have ever had! Prices are on par with the service; most dishes hitting around $8-10 a plate. I would most definitely recommend this place. Parking is on the street and its a small place with about 10 tables plus seating at the bar.
(4)Morgan K.
You have to stop and visit this place if your ever in the area. Delicious Food!!
(5)Donald G.
Great way to start the day... Food is great and the folks are friendly and genuine. We are regulars and will keep coming back.

OK. I'm going to say it. Here it comes. Ready? THIS SPOT HAS THE BEST HASH BROWNS I'VE EVER HAD!!!!! My god they're amazing. On the way back home, from a trip to Santa Barbara, we decided we'd make a little pit stop in Carpinteria (before we made an unexpected pit stop at WalMart, which is an entirely different story) to find a place to grab a quick bite. Naturally, I bust out my handy-dandy Bat.........er........smart phone and launch the yelp app. Next thing I know, we're walking into this unpretentious, relaxed, cute, charming, little hole in the wall called The Worker Bee Cafe. I'm thinking to myself, "ihop or Denny's without the marketing budget." But boy was I wrong. Very wrong! This is food, people. REAL FOOD! It's obviously the place where the locals come to enjoy a fresh, home made, delicious breakfast. I love those kind of places. We were greeted by a very friendly gentlemen who sat us in a booth next to a cute little window overlooking the street. We ordered some coffee and began scanning the menu. Basic fare of any cafe/diner. The same guy approached us and walked us through some of our questions. This guy may have been the owner. If not, the owners should feel very comfortable with this guy running the place. Helpful, polite, cool, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, you get the point. I go for the "Worker Benedict". A fresh, flaky, homemade, biscuit topped with sausage patties, homemade gravy, and two perfectly poached eggs. The biscuits were tender, flaky and still warm, the sausage patty's were perfectly cooked with a lot of flavor, the eggs yolks were runny and perfect. I enjoyed every morsel. You can taste the freshness and love in every bite. Now, for the hash browns. I cant say enough about these hash browns. When I placed my order, I asked for the hash browns "well done", the way I always do. The guy told me, "we cook them a little more well done than most places anyway. Trust me. We're famous for them." I'm convinced. Bring on the potato-y goodness. The plate hit the table, the steam hit my face, the aroma hit my nose, and my entire mouth just filled with water!!! My eyes went straight for the browns. Dark golden brown. Almost burnt edges. Steam billowing off this glorious mound of spuds. I (literally) crack through the crust to expose its inner glory. I don't know if they use Yukon gold potatoes, or just a lot of butter, but the flavor just consumed all my senses. The texture was almost like mashed potatoes. Surrounded by this crispy, crunchy, shell. Seasoned perfectly too, I might add. Those who read my reviews know I salt everything. Not with these bad boys. Salted and peppered just right. If you ever find yourself in Carpinteria during breakfast hours and hungry, do yourself a favor and make a bee line for the The Worker Bee Cafe!! Ha! See what I did there? The best breakfast I've had in a very long time!!!!
(5)Ellena W.
Love the Workers Benedict. The hash browns make it. The owners are awesome. Friendly and attentive- and if you're in your own at the counter, great conversationalists. ;)
(5)Jamie C.
We decided to try some local flavor while camping and happened upon The Worker Bee for breakfast. Best hash brown around. No need for any additional seasoning. My daughter had the chicken, eggs, and hash browns. I had the french toast that was as flavorful an any. A must if you get to Carpenteria. Our server Richard was friendly and made us feel right at home.
(5)Rhonda E.
Found this area of Carpinteria by accident last year when eating at a Mexican restaurant down the street. Taking the advice of my fellow Yelpers, we tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. Had the best corned beef hash and eggs EVER!! Perfectly cooked homemade corned beef was well seasoned but not too salty and so tender it came apart with the slightest touch of the fork. EXCELLENT! The owner, Rick was so personal and passionate about his son's recipes it was a pleasure speaking with him. Will definitely be back for breakfast!!!
(4)JB J.
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! My family and I eat here almost every weekend not only is Rick the owner awesome but the food is great! They offer free range eggs gluten-free bread and they have amazing suggestions on what to order! Best breakfast in town!
(5)Rosa J.
We wanted breakfast and it was already noon, so we were lucky to run into this place. They close at 2pm, so you know they are serious about breakfast. Super Friendly Staff.
(4)Jackie A.
Not a fancy place but they serve BIG portions and the food is good. A little too much salt on the potatoes for my tastes but hubby thinks they are great. He is a CORNED BEEF HASH aficionado and has been back here 5 days in a row so I'd say he likes it. Fun place in Carp. Go check it out. Nice owner works every shift!
(4)Michael R.
Have been coming to Carpinteria with my family every summer since I can remember, and for the past few years have gone to the WBC at least once for breakfast. This time was different... we were shocked when we walked in to the WBC and noticed something was different. Where was Jamie and Oscar?. Where were all the dusty bees everywhere. This was the reason we went here! lol The arguing between the two of them and Jamie threatening to walk out half the time (mind you, she's the only waitress lol) was priceless. Oh no! What will we do now?! Well, what a welcome surprise. The new owner is fabulous and so friendly. I'm sure he gets asked a million times a day what the heck happened to Jamie and Oscar and he was so gracious and answered all our questions. ;) The food was fantastic and we look forward to going back next year and every year after that. Thanks WBC!
(4)Zee B.
Ordered their three egg omelet and it was delicious! My husband and I split it and it was perfect. Great coffee. The owner truly is a worker bee..great friendly guy...
(4)Brenna S.
Cute atmosphere, friendly service, and great food for a decent price. Will definitely be coming back.
(5)David B.
Nice local restaurant, great food, nice wait staff, but cooks are VERY slow getting food out.
(3)Samantha S.
Although the waiters were nice, the food was horrible. Worst French toast I have ever had in my life. It was soo soggy that I couldn't even eat it!
(2)Calla G.
I went with my family and we all ordered different items. We were curious to go as the last owners were a bit lackadaisical with their seasonings and the food was solidly OK. So first to be picky, the corned beef hash had deliciously flavored corned beef but it was cubed instead of shredded and mixed in with the home fries. I like shredded better and with smaller potatoes to make it a true corned beef hash. Now the hashed browns were wonderfully herbed, spiced and salted and cooked well with a crunchy outside so a 5 stars for that. I had the swarms, their egg scrambled. I had it with the veggies and I was delighted. The service was fine. Their was one overly eager to please guy. I could have used to ratchet down his energy to go with my mellow Sunday morning vibe. Anyway a big improvement over the previous owners.
(4)Eric Z.
I had breakfast there recently. Ordered Country fried steak and country potatoes "They have shredded also" Wow what a pleasant surprise not only did it look appetizing "better than pics posted here?" it was good! This is a hidden gem as far as I am concerned. Nothing special in the looks department, food isn't gourmet but I was looking for something more home style like from my grandmothers kitchen. The portions were good also. Got there around 10:30am Saturday. No wait at all. Its roomy enough but can feel just a bit cramped. Clean enough and a plain local mom and pop feel. Tiny kitchen, I was shocked to see that they put out a pretty mean dish. FYI, They do pay your tax if you show them that you did a yelp after finishing your meal.... in all fairness the reviews seem honest from my experience. I just got around to to this review, its been a couple weeks since I ate there. I seen a few people pop in and out for a quick assessment then walk out and I know what they were thinking because I thought it also. It didn't look all that great visually, but I am glad I stayed. I told the waitress they should post pictures in frames and name their dishes because the food really looked great visually and I think thats what people need to see. Although lol I was pretty hungry that morning? I gave four stars only because it could use a bit of a remodel but like I said the food was great and they made my eggs perfect, no one else seems to get my eggs right!
(4)Sara G.
Good food! Small place. They give generous portions, but it is a bit crammed in there. It was more of a place for a quick breakfast, not an extended one with lots of gossip.
(4)N D.
I ordered a corn beef hash and it took almost an hour!!!! And when I got it it was mashed potatoes mushed with pieces of mystery meat. They need to look up how to make it The place wasn't busy and the service was slow and not professional. I would have appreciated if the waitress came by to give us the status on our food. - We were sitting at the counter and weren't acknowledged at all. Don't order the "fresh" orange juice as it tastes like its I've been sitting out for awhile and has turned. I've been here before and it wasn't like this... Maybe management changed. Whatever it is the workers aren't busy bees at all. Below average food that isn't worth your time or money. I'd go to Jack's instead.
(1)K S.
Walked in around noon today (Monday) right before the lunch rush. We were greeted right away by a cheery server, and he let us choose between the lunch and breakfast menu, which is awesome. I hate when restaurants get snobby about serving times. I ordered the Worker Benedict with a side of hash browns, and my bf ordered a bacon omelette and a glass of OJ. The OJ was fresh squeezed and really yummy- not too tart. The omelette was standard, but the Worker Benedict was soooooooooo delicious! The biscuit was fluffy, the egg was perfectly runny, and the gravy was perfectly seasoned. The hash browns were really good and huge- nice and soft in the middle and really crispy on the outside. I will definitely stop in the next time I drive through this town.
(4)Andrew C.
Went there for a Sunday breakfast. The Blueberry pancakes were awesome. Service was good- the new owners father was our water. Definitely on my come back list.
(5)Jason O.
Really enjoyed the chicken club sandwich and organic salad. My coworkers corned beef hash was equally impressive. Will return when passing through the area.
(5)Dixon S.
Positively delicious breakfast with very nice and helpful wait staff. Under new ownership from what I was told and I had no reason to complain, I tried the Corned Beef Hash breakfast and it was simply awesome, well seasoned and tasty and a big portion at a great price. Their waffles were really good to, as was the bacon and eggs that my wife got. They are still fixing the place up, but it was cozy and relaxed early in the morning.
(5)Jill B.
This place is a joke! Worst service, mean owner and gross food! If you want to leave hungry I recommend this place
(1)bryan d.
Worst Place EVER! I went to the Worker Bee Cafe a few weeks ago and I will NOT be returning. The old man, I'm guessing that owner, is the rudest man I have ever countered. I ordered home fries and asked if they could add tomatoes and the waitress took my order to the kitchen. A few moments later a grouchy old man came over to my table and asked which one of us ordered the potatoes with the tomatoes. I said it was me and he asked where I saw that on the menu. I was going to say I didn't see it on the menu with the tomatoes but I thought it would be easy to add them in. He interrupted me and said "THAT ISN'T ON THE MENU" He then barked at me asking if I wanted the tomatoes cooked or placed on top. he brought me my meal and to mess with him I ate all the potatoes but left the tomatoes on my plate. DO NOT GO HERE.
(1)Jamie C.
The Worker Bee Cafe is a family-run restaurant in the heart of Carpenteria, with a nice relaxing country feel. The decor of bee's makes the restaurant look cluttered, however the good food and friendly service is what makes this spot A-ok to patron. For brunch, I ordered the Bee Keepers Delight-- French toast, choice of 2 bacon -or- 2 sausage, with 1 egg and a side order of Hash browns. My meal was served nice n' hot, portions were large, coffee touch-ups were not neglected! Just like Carp, this cafe is kick back, a nice place to enjoy your breakfast, brunch or lunch.
(3)Kathy D.
Horrible service and burnt coffee! We were there for 15 minutes and the waiter never made eye contact. We walked out without ordering.
(1)Linsey S.
Great breakfast food and such a cute atmosphere! Our server was also very fun and entertaining! Took one star off because it took a while to get our food.
(4)Michael H.
Overall great spot for Sunday brunch. Biscuits are amazing as well as the scrambles. Hash browns are delicious. Coffee... needs improvement... not worth $2.50. Chill vibe.
(4)Louis A.
great service breakfast was very good. corned beef hash was very good and a good portion last you half the day.when in town will be back!!!!!!
(5)E M.
One of the best cafes that I've eaten in. The owner is a super nice guy. He came to our table to talk to us several times. He told us he has a ranch. Very, very interesting person with lots of meaningful life experiences. Well it's no wonder he's so happy! Reminds me of the people who left the "good" (materialistic \'successful') life only to enjoy a much better, real and healthy lifestyle. This guy is really living life as it is meant to be. As a result, this spills over into what he loves to do: serve others and serve tasty, healthy food. And as if that wasn't enough, the eggs he uses are farm fresh, organic and from grass-fed chickens. Everything tastes wonderful and fresh. The owner's son went to a culinary school, and he's the one who's designed the menu. Amazing!
(5)Alyson E.
I should start off by saying that the food was okay. But the service was horrendous. It took over an hour from menus to ordering to getting our food. They even delivered our food to the wrong table and let it sit there well they sorted it out. I only recommend eating here if the place is empty and they can dedicate service to one or two tables.
(1)Matt S.
Great food, great people, cozy little spot, but I gotta give 4 stars for the time it took. I understand why they are slow, but they were EXTRA slow while I was there with my 3 kids. 3 kids and show never is a good combo. Anyway, some of the best breakfast that I have had. I will probably go back and try again without kids so I can enjoy the wait. If you like bees....(not real ones) just decor ... you will LOVE this place. I highly recommend the food, and service just be prepared to WAIT FOREVER....
(4)Gabriella G.
The Worker Bee Cafe has been a staple for my boyfriend and I when we're traveling through Carpenteria. The service and food have always been wonderful and we very much looking forward to eating here. This weekend we were in town for a wedding and the plan was to stop for breakfast on Sunday morning before heading back to LA. We arrived at WBC around 11am and the place was crowed as normal. There were two tables available and we were seated right away. We were hungry and excited! The bus boy took our drink order, coffee/oj, and returned promptly with our drinks. Our waitress, a young girl, gave us menus. Another couple walked in right behind us and took the other table. The waitress proceeded to take their order first and then walked by us, seeing our menus, and then took our order. Ok...not a big deal... we should have had our order taken first, but as long as they go in at the same time who cares! So BF and I are chatting, people watching and just relaxing... and getting hungrier and hungrier. We notice that there's only 3 people working the floor -- our waitress, another waiter and the bus boy. It seems like the other waiter is nailing his food orders and people are getting refills on coffee and getting their food. The "other" couple who walked in after us finally got their food after 50 minutes of waiting... we were still waiting for ours. And I finally got the girls attention to ask for more coffee. So 1 hour 15 minutes went by and when another group of customers (under the hands of the other waiter) who arrived at the Cafe 30 minutes after we arrived got their food before us we'd had enough. We left. So as we're walking back to our car we're wondering what the heck happened? Why would the cute couple who owned this place leave on 4th of July weekend... I suggested perhaps change of ownership. So sure enough... when we got home, on the WBC website, it had the new owners, father and son. Turns out, the other waiter was the owner and his son was working the kitchen. Too bad I can't say how the food compares with the previous owners but one things for sure, service was horrible! Now that I know the other waiter was the owner, it annoys me that he let the "other" half of the restaurant receive such poor service. We weren't the only ones, people were constantly going up to the girl asking for more coffee, check, etc. I'm not sure we'll be back again. sad.

Great place to have breakfast. The food is great and the service is really good. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Great good so unexpected, family friendly, amazing staff who make you feel welcomed and appreciated as a customer...try the party melt and biscuits and gravy
(5)Jillian C.
This place is a must go when in carpinteria, ca! So fresh, the biscuits and gravy are the best I have ever had and the blueberry pancakes are loaded with blueberries! So delicious and the staff is super friendly! Must eat here!!
(5)Michael P.
I always stop here for a bite (usually breakfast) on my way to my place in Morro Bay. And, I always get the same thing-Ham & Cheese Omlette, Hash Browns, Fruit and a cup of Java. Always perfect! :-) The Hash Browns are freshly cut, made to order and the eggs for my omlette always taste better here (some rooster is making good WHOOPIE with the Hens I guess!) Also, their coffee is especially good because they don't use tap water but filtered water; that is ALWAYS what makes a good cup of Java and Catalina Island's eateries do so as well. Cozy, quaint, reasonable prices and friendly owners on hand but mostly locals and not to touristy (especially this time of year). A good place to stop after I've done some serious: youtube.com/watch?v=ZEzT…

Terrific breakfast here this afternoon at the end of my bike ride. The owner is very attentive to taking orders, and his son prepared a delicious 2 egg cheese and vegie omelette for me. The hashbrowns were superb.. tasted like they were home made from scratch. My two friends were equally pleased with their breakfasts. The owner visited with us awhile and said they are in the same location as Sarge's used to be, and the counter is in the same place. I remember Sarge's, and knew it was close to there, but didn't realize in the exact place. Sarge's it happens was once owned by Dorothy Schlatter with whom my Dad had a close friendship. I'll be going back.
(5)Sonia E.
Really great food! Very fresh veggies in the omelettes and scrambles. Will do cottage cheese or sliced tomato in replacement of toast or potato options. Plan to wait a little bit for your food!

So happened to stumble on The Worker Bee Cafe when I also so happened to stumble on the Carpinteria Annual Avocado Festival. They were swamped and the food took about 20 minutes to come out. Granted I only saw one cook in the kitchen. The staff was mindful of their customers and were on it with the coffee. Homemade biscuits and the hash browns were "delicioso." Though the coffee was not the best, the service was nice and to the point. I would definitely come back, even if it takes another 20 minutes.

Did not get a chance to eat. Walked in and could feel the stress in the place. Went to sit at the counter away from the door and the guy behind the counter moved us rather than clean the counter. The we ordered and another all stressed out guy came by and said it would be 25-30 minutes. We said okay until another guy came up to ask where their food was as they had been waiting 45 minutes. Then we noticed alot of unserved people and left. On the way out we saw one of the cooks using his hand to hold the pile of hash browns on the spatula as he played them. Hopefully his hands are only used for that in the kitchen.

We were at their door at 7:30 am Sunday morning and all I can say is what a breakfast! We expected middle-of-the-road food, but were surprised with home-made, hearty, fresh, delicious food! Nothing bland here!! Fresh squeezed orange juice, home made corned beef hash - perfect! Over-easy eggs with buttered toast- food that tastes like real food!!! And - big portions - you won't go home hungry!! Cool decor that reminded me if old fashioned lunch counters - and they have a vintage 1952 Hamilton Beach milkshake machine! I loved everything about this place! Next visit we'll do lunch!!! Great service too, the owners do it all.
(5)Chris R.
My boyfriend and I were visiting here from Los Angeles and decided to try this place out for breakfast. We were so happy with our meal and service. The waiter was fantastic and helped us to order exactly what we were in the mood for. I got the three egg scramble with bacon and ham and everything. It was delicious and the hashbrowns polished everything off. My boyfriend had the french toast with bacon and eggs and was equally satisfied, but kept stealing bites of my scramble too. There is a cute little patio out back with umbrellas over the table to shield you from the sun. Bottom line: this is a great little breakfast spot. Try the three egg scramble. You won't be disappointed.
(5)Maria D.
Was staying in Carpinteria for work and stumbled upon this gem. It's a good old fashion mom & pop run spot with good coffee and friendly service. I had an omelette with bacon, cheddar and onions. It was satisfying and delicious. I really like independently owned places and seek them out wherever I go. If you are in the area, stop by and grab some breakfast or lunch.
(4)Rian M.
Food was delicious! Service was good. Corn beef hash was great!!!
(4)Matthew B.
Best corned beef hash I have ever had! Nice quiet place with great service. I will definitely be coming back.
(4)Jeana C.
We came in a little after 2 and they were closing but they offered to turn the grill back on. Thank goodness! We were all starving. The waitress and the owner were nice as can bee ;) The restaurant was very clean and cute. The food was great! Hashbrowns are amazing! Service was excellent. Will definitely be back.
(5)Clayton L.
Delightful! Charming host. Quaint setting. Short stack might be short, but they were 8 inches round! Blueberry pancakes were fabulous. I really enjoyed my chicken fried steak. Both our eggs were perfect. Just a really nice place to stop for brunch on our weekend away. Nothing not to like about this classic diner.
(5)Steve H.
Great breakfast. Corn beef hash is the best. Wife had the blueberry short stack. Very good. A small dinner with good food. I would recommend.
(5)Arlia H.
I make a point to eat here every time I'm in town. The hash browns are amazing, and the egg scramble was made to order. You can't beat the friendly service from Rick. It's a cute little place for great food!
(4)Joe C.
We waited for an hour to get scrambled eggs and ended up leaving out frustration. We were unable to get any attention from the staff. This place needs more staff. Stay home and make your own breakfast. It's faster, cheaper and tastier.
(1)Sc B.
Went here because my in-laws raved about the place and we all decided to have Sunday breakfast here. I was ready to go after 20 mins of waiting for a menu & have our drink order taken. My in laws were shocked and couldn't believe the lack of attention to us or any of the customers. We waited almost 45 minutes & finally they took our orders, during this time I saw people leaving because they were tired of waiting. The worst part of this, is we sat down about 9:15a on a Sunday & we had to check out of our hotel at noon, my wife called the hotel to get a late check out because we're not going to be getting our food & eating & back to check out in time. We had to practically beg for the check, my wife asked for it 4 times, when I can only assume the owner says to her "I need to go out back and see the guy that was sitting over there & buy some paintings from him because he is a local." I said REALLY?! Well we need to check out of our hotel so how about I pay NOW? The guy looked at us as if we were all rude. Almost 2 hours here, food ok. Service (for a place that seats maybe 40 peeps) should be banner but the older guy & younger girl wandered like they've never worked in a restaurant. We set our empty coffee cups at the edge of table hoping for a refill when they walked by with the coffee pot and we still had to ask for refills.
(1)John S.
This place perfectly represent the best of Carpinteria. Homey and funky with great food and a terrific ownership. Especially good breakfasts. I've been her a couple times.
(5)Kimi C.
Best breakfast spot in town. I highly recommend the corn beef hash.
(5)Michael D.
Food was so so, the gravy tasted.like it was from a box. Staff was super friendly.
(3)Brian J.
Went here on a Sunday morning last week with wife and 2 kids. There were two people working the tables and counter. One of them (guy) didn't acknowledge us at all as we're standing at front door for what seemed like 20 minutes. Finally, space opened up at counter and sat down there. Took the waitress there probably another 10 minutes of rushing around to acknowledge us. The food was okay. My blueberry pancakes were good but the kids waffles seemed like Eggo brand to me and my wife. They really need a 3rd person on weekends. The place is in a prime spot and we love Carp but can't see going back anytime soon.
(2)Luiza C.
Horrible service!!! I ordered a scramble, My boyfriend ordered an omelet. They told us it would be about 25 minutes to cook. That seemed weird but we accepted that and waited. 45 minutes later they bring us our food. I asked for a scramble with sausage and no tomatoes . I got ham with tomatoes in my scramble!!! My boyfriend asked for an omelette with ham and no mushrooms. His omelette was full of sausage and mushrooms. We didn't touch the food and flagged the waiter down to tell him our order was completely wrong. The waiter didn't know what to do so he called the manager and or owner. We explained what happened and he apologized and was gone for about another 10 minutes. We assumed he was making new food( what we actually ordered . ) Instead he came back to us nervously and said " This isn't going to work!" and turned away! They didn't want to correct their mistake ... They wanted us to leave!!! We left alright!!! We'll Never go there again!
(1)Deniece K.
My family & I were passing through Carpenteria on our way to LA. We stopped here for breakfast. It was a small place. Very quaint. The service was small town friendly feeling. I ordered homemade oatmeal ( with fresh blueberries & bandanna) My husband & son ordered waffles, eggs, & bacon It was delicious. The owner checked up on us asking if we were satisfied. What a friendly place
(5)Clint B.
Great, helpful, fast service with a smile! Refreshing when you're hungry for breakfast :-). Great blueberry pancakes. My girlfriend is a bacon connoisseur and she loved it so that's big too.
(5)Anthony H.
Great service. Great food. We came here for breakfast before leaving carpinteria. We received very sincere friendly service. The place was very relaxing and made us want to stay longer. I recommend this place to anyone in the area.
(5)J. NICK M.
Never waited so long for breakfast in my life. Simply unreal. Our wait surpassed forty-minutes and some seemed to wait longer than an hour. Food turned out to be good, but not worth the wait. Note to management, please hire another chef!
(2)Sydney L.
Found this cute place on Yelp and it did not disappoint! We ordered biscuit and gravy, hash browns, blueberry pancakes, sausage links and eggs. The sides were the best and impressively well done. The hash browns were the best I've had. I thought the biscuit and gravy were just ok, and the blueberries in the pancakes could be a little sweeter. Overall a great yummy brunch. The staff are friendly too. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area to try other things on the menu.
(4)Nathan E.
I located WBC on Yelp and it looked really interesting from the photos so I figured we'd give it a try. Worker Bee definitely has unique flavor. The walls are covered with bee photos, bee icons, bee paraphernalia, and bee anything. In fact, I was honestly a little concerned when the waitress was taking our order. There is something about how she speaks. Somewhat robotic. Almost like a bee! I was expecting her to start buzzing. Creepy. I ordered a Bee Swarm (it's a three egg scramble) with bacon and all the veges. When the ate the first Bee Swarm bite, I was impressed. Suddenly nothing else in life mattered. It was just me and the Swarm; I'm a fan. My only complaints: 1) The coffee sucked. I think they must buy it in super bulk from a big box mega store. 2) The Swarm was more "wet" than I would like. I would NOT like it dry, but there were small puddles of water on my plate. 3) The Fiance ordered home fries as a side and they delivered hash browns. Yes, they offered to fix, but once the food is delivered, it's too late for that. Anyway, overall I highly recommend Worker Bee.
(4)Josh M.
Awesome service, and great breakfasts!!! I tried country fried chicken and corned beef and hash, out of the world!
(5)Chris P.
Simply some of the best breakfast food I've ever had.
(5)Lisa N.
I wasn't sure what to expect, there weren't very many in this place at lunchtime on a Saturday. The cute interior is what drew us in, and I'm glad it did. The owners are very friendly and personable and we were able to have a nice chat with them. the menu isn't very large, breakfast, then a selection of a few salads, burgers, chicken sandwiches and other sandwiches like tuna and clubs. We both got the burgers, one with potato salad, one with fries. The burgers were 1/3 of a pound, not greasy at all, with a good beefy flavor and served on butter toasted sesame seed buns with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle on the side. The fries were delicious and cooked just right. The potato salad (which normally I don't like, but I snagged a bite of ) was very good, you could tell it was homemade and didn't taste all processed or of the overwhelming onion flavor most places have. Burgers start at $8.50 and go up depending on toppings. Sandwiches are around the same. The nice cozy atmosphere and nice help made it all worth while. We weren't rushed, our drinks were kept full and we enjoyed the nice breeze coming in the windows. If you are expecting fast food, and to be in and out in a jiffy, this place isn't for you. Will definitely go back.
(4)Christian B.
Great in quality and quantity. Also great service!!!
(5)Karen D.
Great service, great old time diner feel. Had the eggs, hash brown with biscuit and side of gravy. "The best hash brown I ever ate".... My husbands exact words. The sausage patty was amazing... Real homemade taste. Coffee perfect also!! I must do whenever your in the area! Thanks!
(5)Jeff B.
New Owners! - Disregard reviews before October 2012 - it's not the same place! Owner Rich is an attentive, energetic, and friendly person (not to mention interesting as heck - are you a rocker? traveler? then he is your man). We had a wonderful breakfast and even better service. We chowed down on corned beef hash and blueberry pancakes made by Rich's son. Our daughter (lives locally) found out where we'd gone and screamed "No! they are so rude!" But she (as with these pre-October Yelpers) was refering to the prior owners. Now, this place has such a great vibe and we had such a nice experience, we even talked about moving to Carp. For now, we're part time locals and can't wait to try more...
(4)Debbie G.
Super friendly! Great breakfast! Perfect small town feel! Looking forward to trying lunch!
(4)Mrs. C.
Wait to be seated wasnt too bad. The wait to get out food was pretty long, but I didn't mind as it was a lazy Sunday. hashbrowns were great, well seasoned and nicely browned. Chicken fried steak was good. My steak Sandbach wad very tasty. The ingredients were fresh and tasted home made. Coffee was just so so. There was only one waitress, but she was hustling.
(4)Chrissy C.
Perfectly cooked rib eye sandwich with large portion of organic side salad. Clean, cute and friendly. Would come back.
(4)Lark B.
Pretty damn good! Decent food for a good price, large quantities also :)
(4)matt b.
Hash browns rock and the service is stellar. It was our first time, but it won't be our last.
(4)James K.
Food is excellent, service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is a pleasant if the decor is a bit austere. Grilled chicken was moist with tasty thick cut bacon. My burger was inventive and very well prepared with monterey jack and green chiles. Fresh ingredients and attention to detail.
(5)joe k.
Good place to go for home cooked breakfast Husband and Wife team split the duties of front and back and their banter is priceless. The place is outfitted with a bee theme. Bee's everywhere!
(3)Ian S.
So - we read some reviews and sadly almost passed this place up. Thankfully, our alternative looked terrible so we came here and were so so so thrilled with that call. Delicious French toast, the owner is super attentive, and the service is pretty on point. As pointed out in other reviews, hash is a bit greasy, and the wait is a tad long - but guess what...it's a diner! It's all about atmosphere and grease!! Great music, great service and a killer breakfast. Couldn't get any better. Thanks and we will be back as soon as possible.
(5)Yahaira K.
The father Rick served us great friendly service and the son cooked the most unique heuvos ranchoeros with chorizo amazing !!! And even a regular omelette is soo good !! Pick a biscuit with butter yummy over all best place to eat breakfast.
(5)Danielle S.
I think it's great!!! The French toast special was amazing!! And the corn beef and hash was the best I've ever had!
(5)Moshi M.
I heart The Worker Bee. Excellent service by Jaime, very nice, welcoming and attentive. A true Mom and Pop diner. (*check out the photo section) My most recent trip to The Worker Bee was my fourth time and it won't be my last. I had the pork chop breakfast (with 2 eggs and hash browns extra crispy) and it was juicy and the meal was filling. My bf had the ham breakfast and gave it a 2 thumbs up. If you find yourself driving through Carpinteria, please take the time to stop by here. You'll be happy you did and you'll turn your nose up at all the cars that decided to go to McDonald's for a McWhatever Breakfast. Go support this great small town restaurant.
(5)Paul B.
This place was recommended by a buddy for breakfast. It did not disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The food was fresh and cooked to order. Only criticism was the gravy for the bus quits and gravy was not hot enough. Otherwise, I would recommend this place for a great American breakfast. Best hash browns I've ever had.
(5)Lea M.
Came for breakfast after finding on Yelp. Very pleased. Wanted to try the corned beef hash after reading other reviews but they were out (slightly bummed). Opted for the ribeye very good great seasoning. Hash browns were crispy w the same great seasoning. Hubby had the Chicken fried steak which was good as well. Will most def be back. Owner was great too friendly efficient service.
(5)Monique M.
The owner/server who may also be part chef was off the bat knowledgeable about the food he was going to serve. The environment was comfortable an homely. Overall great experience in an equally pleasant town and excellent breakfast
(4)Ryan R.
Found this place passing through. Rick and Rick are great guys who appreciate good music and good food! The kitchen sink scramble and hash browns were awesome. My friend from the south had the biscuits and gravy which he liked a lot. That says something. Definitely will come back even if I have to go out of my way.
(5)Carlee P.
The staff is extremely friendly. The food was delicious. Biscuits and gravy is a must! My mom and aunt got omelets and ate every last bite. Great location and easy to find parking.
(5)fred r.
Ingot stung with $17 for a breakfast! Ridiculous prices. Ok food. Nice service, Iguess. Corn beef hash as aside order almost $7! I didn't know the price but I assumed 3.50. A good waiter would have adjusted my order because I only wanted an omelette. Oh did I say omelets are10.59! I felt really used. I spent almost the same amount of money at the nearby Palm Restaurant and I got a t-bone,mash potato, salads and beans! This place is in my permanent NEVER AGAIN category. If you want to be overcharged for food, this is your place.
(2)Kat W.
This place is wonderful! I have a dairy allergy so I always order kind of the same thing everywhere. Bacon and eggs with Hash brown and toast... not too exciting right... but it is done so perfectly here the bacon is magical and the hashbrowns are seasoned with something incredible! My hubby has had several dishes and he loves them all, especially the chicken fried steak. SO worth the drive from SB! The staff is super nice. I can't wait to go back.
(5)Margie M.
I can't review the food because we never received it. I took my parents, who are in their 90's for breakfast. We had to wait at least ten minutes for our menus and for the owner/manager to take our order. After an hour had passed we got his attention for another cup of coffee and asked him if the food was on the way. He said, "Well, good food takes some time to get cooked. And trust me, you haven't been waiting an hour." Because my parents both suffer from hearing loss, they both speak rather loudly. They don't yell, just loud. We were discussing why it took so long to cook French toast and a veggie burger. Apparently the woman in the booth next to us was offended by what we were saying and turned to me and said, "This is not a short order place, the food takes some time." As my mom started to respond, she starting yelling, "Don't you yell at me, don't you yell at me." She continued her yelling and we decided that we couldn't enjoy our food after this, so we decided to leave. As I was taking my parents back to the car this woman follows us out to the parking lot to continue her yelling, telling us how rude we were and we didn't pay for the coffee! As I tried to respond to her, she said, "shut up, just shut up. Seems she needs to repeat what she is saying to get her point across. Needless to say, we will not return to this café. My parents, nor I need this kind of stress.
(1)Joyce A.
This father / son team have improved the food at this restaurant SO much - love the freshness. Every time we are in Carpinteria, we go there for breakfast at least one time. The food is ALWAYS fresh, generous portions, and delicious. I can tell they cater to a lot of local clients and they appear to be happy eating there. Only one con: they need to get moving on getting the food to the eaters in a more timely manner. We wish them continued success.
(5)Allan B.
Hadn't been there in years, New owners are doing a great job and the food was a pleasant find.
(5)Dani T.
Great little breakfast and lunch place. Mike the owner, and his son, are great! New decor is nice - food is fresh and tasty. Don't go there if you are in a rush, but if you want a nice leisurely meal with locals - it is the place to go.
(4)Tatta N.
This place is awesome! The decor is super quirky and fun- real kitschy and not upscale which adds to its charm. The mom and pop who run the place are sweet and sassy, respectively. Food was good ol' home cookin- not going to win any culinary awards, but fresh and flavorful. I had an omelette with spinach, tomatoes and cheddar and the hubs had French toast. The English muffin was really good- not a throwaway like a lot of diners serve. Coffee was good and kinda strong. I'd go back just to hang out with the owners!
(5)Marissa H.
Under new management. Great father and son duo. Food and service is a plus. Also enjoying listening to the music they play!
(5)Linda Franco F.
Food took a while, but worth the wait!
(4)Yvette D.
I had the French toast with egg and bacon and my son had the workers egg Benedict. They were both very good and tasty. Glad we stopped.
(4)David L.
Excellent breakfast. Everything was cooked perfectly and just as we ordered it. The room is bright and pleasant. We had none of the service issues others have noted. The place is under new ownership as of October 1, 2012. The chef took over the business so there should be continuity in the food. The chef's dad will run the front of the house. He has a learning curve ahead of him for sure but he was very pleasant and attentive.
(4)Kevin D.
Great blueberry pancakes. Quick, polite service. Below eye level waiter.
(4)Conrad R.
The food looked great, and was in large proportion. It took quite a while to get the food because of how few workers there are. If you don't want to wait come right when it opens or around 11:30 ish. Overall it was a good meal.
(4)Kathleen M.
I am a local and miss Jamie & Oscar and the bee decor, but the new owners are doing a great job with their new menu additions and friendly service. The Worker Bee remains our choice over Esau's and Cajun in food, atmosphere, friendliness. We are looking forward to the upcoming new additions, like the patio. Thank you for keeping the Worker Bee going.
(5)Susan H.
Waited 45 minutes like everyone else only to realize their tickets weren't printing in their kitchen. Duh! Is there any reason why the manager didn't notice NOBODY EATING OR GETTING FOOD. Very poorly managed. They didn't even offer anyone a muffin or anything. Basically they just said if you want to wait another 15 minutes you can or you can leave.WOW seriously!
(1)Olivia U.
Food was okay. I eat 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, and 2 sausages at every breakfast opportunity that I have, and these were not really the best. I was curious to check the place out after all the reviews I had seen about the service, and it really wasn't that great. Maybe it's a style that these people think you have to be less courteous to be more efficient but I don't think that's necessarily true. I'm not recommending it as a breakfast spot when it comes up....
(2)Keith F.
Love this breakfast spot. Best bacon on earth.
(5)Kendall M.
This is a cute, greasy spoon cafe. The owners are great and work the cafe. My son loves the hot chocolate which is a work of art. If you want a healthy breakfast you really have to work at it here. If you want a tasty, hearty breakfast, the Worker Bee is for you. Also, you need to take your time here. The owners aren't in a hurry. It is a place to relax and enjoy your coffee and newspaper. I love sitting at the counter. This restaurant is not great for big groups since it is not that big.
(3)A L.
I have gluten intolerance, and they were more than willing to accommodate! The owner was very helpful! The food was very good! I also have a picky little brother and they made his home fries plain for him! Everything is really fresh and all the workers are very nice and helpful! Adorable little place!
(5)Koreen O.
Despite other reviews that said they had bad experiences with the service, we gave it a try. Those reviews couldn't have been more wrong! The owners Oscar and Jamie were amazingly friendly and the service was impeccable (and the food was delicious!). When we got there late morning, they were about out of decaf coffee so they had to make a new pot when I ordered it...and our server apologized! Huge portions, delicious food, and got to hear the story of why there are so many bees in the restaurant :) We'll definitely be back!
(5)Milena M.
Love, Love, Love it! It has small town charm. It's small & crowded, the decor is super cute & eclectic. Service is friendly & real. And the food is great, of course. =)
(5)Gail W.
This is a place we have always liked to stop at when in the area. Never again, new owners. The service was really good but the food was really bad! The hash browns way too much pepper, but still bland. The biscuit was not good at all. The blueberry pancakes were really doughy. I had hot tea and was brought a cup of hot water and tea bag with no place to put my tea bag and the brand of tea was not good at all.
(1)Erin O.
This place is great! It's in a wonderful location on a quaint street, the service was fantastic, and the food was scrumptious! The kids meals are given on a worker bee plate which our kids enjoyed, and the biscuits and gravy was served just right, with grilled biscuits and thick flavorful gravy. The owner was incredibly friendly too. He kept stopping by our table to talk to our kids and tell us about his kids. We loved it!
(5)Nicole S.
If you enjoy being belittled by your server, then this is the place for you! We came in here on an idle Sunday morning because the Chamomile Café a few doors down was closed (maybe forever... single tear), and this was the best rated breakfast restaurant in the area. The woman who runs this place REALLY needs a chill-pill. First, she chastised me for daring to make substitutions to my order saying "I don't know if he can do that." Then she became very curt and cut us off in the middle of placing our order. When other customers came in with a baby and asked to be seated at one table, she shoo-ed the other server away from them and escorted them to a completely different table. It seemed that any request we had of her was a great burden, to the point where we became afraid to even talk to her, and dealt solely with the other server who was actually a very nice man. The order I had placed (a double order of home-fries add veggies) turned out to be delicious and the cook even came out of the kitchen to check that it had turned out well. That was so nice! While we sat and ate, not one but TWO different people inquired about what I was eating and mentioned "that looks really good" to the chagrin of the mean lady behind the counter. I feel sorry for the other two men who work there, they must have to deal with a lot of hen-pecking from the woman who is seemingly calling the shots. Overall, the meal was delicious, but I'd be afraid to set foot in there again for fear of another uncalled for tongue-lashing. Beware!
(3)Jonny T.
If you like Dennys, IHOP & other places of that ilk, STAY AWAY. This is a fantastic place. Friendly owners, lovely atmosphere, excellent food. It takes them a long time to get the food out so if you're in a hurry, go elsewhere. But if you have the time this is the place for you. Just listening to their conversations with other customers kept me laughing.
(4)Patty P.
Breakfast burrito and hash browns were delicious. Pancakes also tasty. Decor cute, kind if noisy with lots of conversations. Took food awhile but it was definitely worth it.
(4)James S.
Pleasantly kitchy diner, with bee-related decor everywhere. The woman who helped me had the attitude lesser approximations of this kind of place strive for, but rarely attain because it only works when it's natural. They usually confuse roughness for genuineness. She was very nice and genuine. The food took at least 10 minutes, which seemed like a long time for eggs when the place wasn't full. The food was good. It also cost more than at similar places in lower-rent locations. Coffee & food & tip came to $17.
(3)Minga T.
Great little joint for breakfast. Old school feel with a counter. I feel every great breakfast place needs a counter to sit at. I really liked this place a lot. Food was great with all the staples available. My only knick pickyness to add was that I prefer egg white omelets, and said that wasn't an option, but was offered eggbeaters instead. Again, not a huge deal. Service was top notch. Very happy with this place.
(4)Jana H.
Amazing breakfast Even better service! Kiind, funny, good people who make great food. When needing breakfast on carpenteria don't go anywhere else.
(5)George M.
If you like sloppy runny undercooked eggs then this place is for you! On top of that you get awful service and a hefty bill. Ihop is better for price, service, and food.
(2)Hula B.
If you have little to no sense of humor or a problem with authority, this restaurant is not for you! The owner/operators are super sweet and friendly as long as you don't disrespect them or their restaurant. Everything is made fresh. This takes a little bit longer than you may be used to but it's definitely worth it. The fresh cut hash browns and real oatmeal with cream and bananas are real stand outs. Thumbs up on all pork products!! A full dining room there is between 45 and 60 guests and there are only 3 employees so be patient with them. Do not walk through the restaurant to get to the street or parking lot. Oscar will chase you out and chastise you in front of god and everybody while the rest of us wait longer for our food!

BREAKFAST...BREAKFAST...BREAKFAST! Who doesn't love a place with great breakfast, and this place is one of them. We are in Carpinteria every year for the Avocado Festival and this year found The Worker Bee Cafe. We had breakfast there and the service and food was excellent. I am a big fan of hashbrowns and this place has some of the best hashbrowns I've ever had. This is the first place that asked me how I'd like my eggs: rare, medium or well done! Right than and there i knew i was in for a great plate of breakfast. The biscuits are plump and fresh, and the gravy was super tasty. Definitely a must try for a good plate of breakfast if ever in Carpinteria. The place is decorated with bee paraphernalia everywhere (hence the name) and the service and food was great. What more can you ask for. Honorable Mention: Anything on the Breakfast Menu that includes hashbrowns!

My breakfast at the Worker Bee Cafe was very disappointing. Undercooked omelette (including patches of uncooked egg) and overcooked, over-salted homefries. Plus, the service was exceptionally slow. I went there on a cold, rainy weekday morning. I was in the mood for good, home-style "comfort food". I brought a good book to read and I was not in a hurry to get back out in the rain. There were very few other customers there, and all of them appeared to have been served by the time I arrived. I placed my order directly off the menu, without any changes or special requests. I began reading my book and waiting for my food to arrive. No new customers arrived, so I believe I was the only order the cook had to prepare. I waited. And waited. And waited... My plate finally arrived 30-40 minutes after placing the order. If the food had been exceptionally good, I would have quickly understood (and forgotten) the long wait. Good things take time. Unfortunately, the food was awful! Sorry, but I can't recommend a breakfast restaurant that can't properly prepare an omelette and homefries dish ordered straight off their menu. I left the Worker Bee Cafe wishing I had gone to Garden Market instead.

I can't say this place is great, but it's not bad. I came here alone on a weekend expecting a good, quick breakfast. I ordered french toast with a side of hash browns. It took a good 25 minutes before my food was ready (only 1 other couple was there too) and when it came out, it was french toast and bacon. When I brought this to the owners attention he seemed surprised but not sorry. I told him I ordered hash brows but I'd eat the bacon since it was there. I didn't think he would charge me for it since it was their mistake. About 15 minutes later when I was basically full and ready to leave, my hash browns came out. They were alright. Just like the french toast was just alright. The owner was totally engaged in conversation with the other couple sitting at the bar and so was not very attentive to my needs. He also seems like a really nervous person which just made me feel uncomfortable. When my bill came out I had been charged $3.99 for the bacon which I did not order. I paid for it anyway because it took so damn long to finally get the bill and I really just wanted to leave the place. Food and prices were decent. I might come back here in the future and give this place another shot because I really want to like this place. It has a nice diner atmosphere. Maybe the owner was just having an off day.

This place is welcoming & wonderful & the food is great. To keep costs down, the owners serve & cook, so service can be slow when the place is full, but it is well worth the wait!

We stay at Carpinteria State beach every summer and just discovered the Worker Bee Cafe. We had tried the Camomile cafe nearby, but my husband is not OK with non-meat breakfast meat and roasted broccoli for breakfast (I don't blame him.) I am a total health foodie but roasted broccoli for breakfast is a bit much for even me. Once I walked in the door of the Worker Bee I thought it was really cute, kind of a cross between an old time diner and your grandmother's living room. I did notice that it was very well kept and clean, despite the numerous bee-themed "tchotchkies." Still trying to figure out the one wall that is a tribute to the Wizard of Oz though. Anyways... Both times I got the cinnamon roll - to die for!!! Comes warm with a SIDE of whipped butter! C'mon!! That is awesome. I get cinnamon rolls wherever I go and this one was very good. Our breakfasts were done extremely well - nothing fancy and no exotic ingredients - just really good diner breakfast food. They have the hashed browns and home fries down pat, eggs are perfect and the biscuits (fresh baked) are mighty good. The coffee was well attended to and we got our food quickly. Oscar (the owner/cook) is great. Very friendly and quick with the humor - he comes out and checks to be sure everyone is happy with the food and even saw him sit at someone's booth. We peeked in the kitchen window and saw his potatoes cooking and commented how great they looked and the next thing we knew we had a sample bowl of each kind in front of us. We hadn't even ordered yet - mmm! I would drive to Carpinteria just to have some of the food from this dandy establishment.

My husband were in Carpinteria for breakfast and I'd seen a lot of great reviews here so we thought we'd try it. Decor was kitchy/50's style dinery, but without it really being hip-kind of like you were visiting some old lady with lots and lots of chachtzkies (sp?) all over the house. Service was relatively friendly, when we first arrived. Menu was standard old school diner food. For me, being a health nut, I already sensed this was not really the place for me, but I was still hopeful that it would at least be good home cookin. The problem was, the food was totally unspectacular, nothing I would write home about and way over priced for what it was. I got 2 scrambled eggs, toast and (way too salty!) homefries. It was like a $4.95 breakfast special but it cost like $8.95. My husband got a Belgian waffle that was super thin, not what I would expect from a Belgian waffle. His bacon was inedible (dry and tasteless), and the eggs were same as mine-just kinda whatever. Coffee was $2.25 per cup and that somehow felt ridiculous too. I'm from LA, by way of NYC, i don't mind paying for good food. It just wasn't worth the price... Anyway, I still woulda been ok with it all except we got the same horrible attitude that some of the others on here mentioned. I had forgotten to ask the waitress for dry toast so when it arrived it had butter. i apologized and asked if I could get it dry. The waitress looked like i had just told her that I had run over her dog. She was so annoyed and upset made no qualms about showing it. We're talking about toast. She rolled her eyes and took the plate away. I said you know what, don't worry about it, I don't need toast". She came back with dry toast anyway, and a "there you go, sweetie" but it was so obviously fake. Whatever, maybe she is just old and cranky, but the whole experience quite frankly, gave us the creeps. She tried again to be nice on our way out, after we still left her a nice tip (I waitressed for ten years), but again it seemed somehow manipulative and insincere. Anyway, bottom line is I thought it wasn't worth the price or the possibility of being made to feel like crap for making a mistake. We saw this cute place on the way back to the car called Chamomile Cafe that looked much more my style...oh well, maybe next time.

Came in on a Monday morning before we left town after a short weekend getaway. It is a very cute and clean diner. The owner waited on us and he was very personable and friendly. We loved the polka dot tables and the overall feel of the place. We got oatmeal and an omelette. Both came quickly and were very tasty. Coffee was fresh. Just we wanted before driving home. I definitely recommend this spot.

Stop #8 and a great exit or entry meal out of Santa Barbara. Thank you fellow Yelpers! I've officially found a reason to stop in... err... Carpinteria of all places to grab a home-cooked brunch made with care. The food here is made from scratch and to quote my sweetie 'this is what diners should be all about... this place was so good'.
(5)Deb A.
We were the first to arrive on a weekday morning, and although I was surprised it took a bit longer than expected to get served our food (they must of not been quite ready for customers yet), I have to say the food was just what u wanted for breakfast. My friends loved the big bowl of oatmeal they ordered, and I just had basic eggs with sausage.. Can't really go wrong with that.

Great breakfast joint in the cute town of Carp (that's what the locals call it supposedly). Saturday at noon and still seats to spare. Friendly staff, minimalist decor, counter, booth and table seating. Now to the food. We stuck with basics...Hubby had corned beef hash with huge chunks of meat...maybe a bit too chunky. His review: "Good flavor, moist, didn't need ketchup." The potatoes were crispy outside soft inside. I had a waffle smothered in fresh blueberries and strawberries. They've got a thing for big chunks here - strawberries could be cut a little smaller. Waffle was fluffy and well waffly. But the real piece de resistance were the hash browns. I don't normally partake since they're usually pretty flavorless and greasy, but these were amazing. The inside was almost as soft as mashed potatoes while the outside was super crispy and buttery. Worth the extra $4 to get as a side (they do come as a "free" side with some menu items). Prices and portions are on the high side of reasonable. If you're lucky to get one of the two booths overlooking the main drag, the people-watching is good. It is an easy stop just off PCH.

Took a trip up the coast and found this place through Yelp. The owners and other guy working there were very friendly. The food was great and we had a nice talk with both of the owners.

We stopped by the this place on our way back down from San Luis Obispo back to San Diego and were very pleased. I got the biscuits and gravy, and they were awesome. If you come here, you should definitely get the fries! The seasoning was awesome.

I really enjoyed my breakfast here. After spending several nights on the road, eating mainly fast food, TheWorker Bee was a welcome relief. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant, in a city lot. I entered thru the back entrance, fresh baked biscuits were cooling on the counter, which inspired me to try the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage. It really hit the spot. Way friendly staff, way friendly locals, I look forward to bring the GF here who will love the BEE decor and cutsie tea cup and teapots. TAHNKS for a great meal.
(5)Beau H.
No breakfast served after 12. Nothing mentioned on the menu. Will not be returning.
(1)Heather C.
TERRIBLE, AWFUL service. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out, and the server rolled her eyes when we asked for to go boxes before the food came out. She then proceeded to go, "well this probably sucked for you" then walked off. I have NEVER had such awful service in my whole life and I suggest that you don't go if you have any plans for the week.
(1)Julie A.
Great food, great service. Wonderful biscuits & omelets. Cute cafe.
(5)Larry C.
Great spot 20 minutes or so from Santa Barbara without the hassle of trying to park on a Sunday morning. Breakfast was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. It's a fairly small place and probably can be slow when busy, but we had prompt, friendly service and both the omelette and pancakes were excellent.

Just returned from Carpinteria Calif. - my Dad and I attended his 61st Class Reunion - love Carpinteria...such a wonderful place !! Had breakfast at The Worker Bee Cafe...as always when visiting Carpinteria - definitely a must stop when you are in that area - all the locals go there...so you know it's a great place - Owner ran and operated "Oscar and Jamie"...great people - atmosphere takes you back in time a bit and everything on the menu is oh so tasty and so well worth every dime !!!
(5)Marivic R.
Easy to find. Minimal wait time, less than 10 min. before we were seated. Staff was friendly and considerate. Though it took 45 to 60 min until we got our food, the wait was worth it. The breakfast was very delicious.
(4)Amie T.
A family favorite! Quick service and great home cooked food! An updated look has given this restaurant fresh and clean look! Love the Worker Bee!

I have NEVER experienced such a rude and ignorant person. The two owners happily seated my family of 4 for lunch and I inquired as to gluten free options. Breakfast was over and that left a lunch menu of sandwiches and burgers, along with salads made of iceberg lettuce (no nutritional value for a non-meat eater). The owner offered me a fruit bowl but I declined. The other 3 in my party ordered and told me to grab a gluten free item from a shop a few doors down - which I did. When I returned with my food, the woman told me that I couldn't bring outside food in. Then, the other owner (male) came out and proceeded to yell at me (not exaggerating) because I brought food in. I explained the gluten free status and he said "I don't care what you got, you have to leave" I'm sure this is because he was planning to seat a stranger at the now open seat at my table, because I can't think of any other reason to be so rude. DO NOT GO HERE.

What karma to have found this place, turning off the highway on a whim for a very late breakfast. The superb corn beef hash with poached eggs and the friendly welcome and service were the best of American: home made, genuine and more than the sum of its parts. What a tragedy that fast food trash pervades in the US when gems like this exist; my only regret is that I'm not a local so likely won't be back very often. I just hope the locals know what they have on their doorstep and keep the place busy. Good food will always be remembered and I'll certainly remember this. Thanks.

This place is great! Stopped here passing through this town because of the yelp reviews. The breakfast was fantastic! What a great find, the street it's on is so cute! The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. We will be back when passing through again! Oh and get the home fries- best I've ever had!

Woweee!!! This place is wonderful! As you walk into Worker Bee Cafe, you get this homely feeling. There's bee novelty stuff all over the place; a huge refrigerator with bee drawings, magnets, and stickers; antique cups; and pictures of the owners and one of their dog. One of the owner's, Jaime, was also our waitress and she was very sweet. The boyfriend ordered the pancake sandwich. I ordered an omelet with bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, onions, green peppers, and tomatoes. I was about to order wheat toast with it when something inside told me to try the biscuit. I'm so glad I did. My omelet was so good. It was jam packed with veggies just how I like it. The hash browns were golden and had an excellent flavor to them. The biscuit was nice and fluffy and tasted good with golden honey (it's called Worker Bee Cafe so I had to have honey on something). As for my boyfriend's sandwich. We both thought since it was a sandwich the pancakes would be sandwich sized. WRONG! These were massively huge pancakes (picture shown). If he were to have turned his breakfast into an actual sandwich, his eggs and sausages would be lost. I tried a piece of his pancakes and they were so good. They had some kind of flavor to them that I just don't know what it was, but it was good. Towards the end of our meal, the cook, Oscar the other owner, came out and greeted everyone and asked how we were doing. We bowed down to him and thanked him for such a wonderful breakfast. I highly recommend The Worker Bee Cafe to anyone visiting the Carpinteria area. Oh and bring a huge appetite because you're going to need it.

We stopped there on the way to Santa Barbara, fantastic service, nice diner atmosphere, a little pricey which surprised us, food was exactly what we had hoped for and we will be back. A few nice shops in the area make it a worthwhile stop...

This is a great little mom and pop restaurant. The server is this lovely lady and her husband is the chef. The place is decorated with bees everywhere. Good stuff!! Three thumbs up!
(5)Wendy S.
Ate here earlier in the week on the way to Goleta. What a fantastic restaurant. The owner (I'm only assuming because he looked just like the man that was in the photo on the wall years earlier) came over to make sure our meal was perfect. When I make it to CA again, this will definitely be on my list of places to visit. Well worth it and the food was excellent!!!

Classic, greasy spoon diner that specializes in breakfast. In the past I've heard complaints about the service and brusk treatment doled out by the owners, but when we went the service was nothing but pleasant, helpful and all around cordial. I'd say the place is aware of the bad comments because it seems like they're trying to do something about. I heard a waiter ask patrons a couple times while we were there how the service was. So good on them for trying to improve themselves!

On a Monday morning ... breakfast at The Worker Bee Cafe was a welcomed experience. Ive been to the restaurant a few times previously, and always enjoyed the little town feel. Cafe owned and ran by husband & wife. A mixture of locals and those passing through town enjoying a meal. We were seated immediately, and served coffee. I enjoyed a waffle with apples, whip cream ... I cant remember what my girl had since I was too involved in looking at her eyes. She drank lots of coffee though. And her plate was pretty well cleaned. As was mine. There were Bee's everywhere -- Very decorative Cafe. .... Welcoming, local feel. I'll be back -- ... And a short walk to the beach made the day a delight (and the company held was the whip cream on my waffle).

Very cute little breakfast place in heart of carpenteria. Like something out of the country with all the bee-themed decorations. The service was very good except the food took way too long to come to the table. Food was sub par. Hash browns were yummy but probably had the greasiest omelet in my life. How much oil was used to cook that. The biscuit was average but couldn't make up for the greasy omelot

I love love LOVE this place! During my trip through Central Cali, I stayed in Carpinteria for a night. In the morning, I did a search on Yelp for restaurants serving breakfast around the area. I was debating between this place and Cajun Kitchen, but I opted for here since it didn't seem as busy and it was charming. I ordered a simple breakfast; 2 eggs any style (over hard), 2 sausage links (they gave me 3), home fries, and English muffin. Oh, and as soon as I sat down, one of the servers walked over with a pot of coffee and asked me what I wanted to drink. And the coffee was amazing. The food was delicious; the eggs were cooked perfectly, everything was really really good. The bottles/containers holding condiments were clean (this was a first, and I've visited a lot of diners. And the service? Almost as good as the food. My coffee cup was never empty, and the servers were very attentive and very nice. The service was excellent. The place is a little small and I imagine this place gets pretty crowded, so if you're planning a visit, I'd leave a little earlier.
(5)Jerry K.
Decent Mom and pop shop with great service and a friendly smile. Prices is decent for a small town shop. Nothing fancy; just the basic breakfast and lunch!
(3)Carl J.
Great food, great people! The new owners keep it real with simple, quality food and a laid back atmosphere. Great place to relax and chat it up with the friendly owners! The pork chorizo is the best!
(5)Christine T.
The food far exceeded my expectations. My friend and I both got a scramble and it arrived piping hot and delicious! The home fries were perfect. Good coffee. Clean bathrooms. Good classic rock playing in the background. It took a while to get our food, but it was so good, it was worth the wait. The owner is very talkative and friendly. Will definitely come back.
(5)David S.
Just visiting the area my family & decided to check out the worker bee for breakfast. The food was great & the staff was better. Our server was great. Very friendly. great atmosphere & great food!
(5)Michael A.
Delicious food and a great atmosphere! So glad that we caught this "breaky" spot during our stay in Carpenteria. The scramble was plenty of food!
(5)Samantha H.
I can't believe that as a Carpinteria native I've never had breakfast at the Worker Bee Cafe! Loved it! The food and the service were excellent and the decor and atmostphere is fun and down home. I can't wait to bring my 4 year old daughter to eat here. She will love all the bee decorations. I was especially impressed that the cook came over to check on our food and see how we were doing. It made us feel special. Can't wait to go back. Oh, and I've never had someone ask me how I like my eggs within the normal ways. For example, I ordered scrambled eggs and they asked me if I wanted them wet, medium or dry. My mom would love that!
(5)Jonathan C.
My wife and I were here back in April for a friends wedding and this is where we went for breakfast the day after. Excellent little breakfast joint. The Bee decor is waaay out, I mean there are bee knick-knacks everywhere. I wish I could rate the food but since I can't remember what I had, I'll leave it bee... lol. The owners were very outgoing and new all the regulars. If ever you're in Carpinteria... buzz on by for memorable experience.
(4)Vanessa J.
Amazing little place to have breakfast on a beautiful morning. Stumbled upon this cafe on a trip to Santa Barbara and I'm so glad I stopped in for breakfast. The breakfast food was sooo yummy and great if your wanted a nice big home cooked meal. I ordered the egg and sausage breakfast that came with toast and home fries. With a side of coffee it made for a memorial dining experience. And to top it off the service was quick and the cook came out to personally let me know that my food was coming right up. I'd recommend this place!! I am definitely coming back!!!
(5)Joey H.
Best breakfast in Carp! With Jamie's great hospitality to Oscar's famous biscuits and gravy and home fries this place is a must stop in SB! Oscar will always come by your table and ask how everything is and we always say great as usual. I always get the 2 eggs any style that comes with bread or biscuit, and home fries. My wife enjoys wheat bread and home fries. My wife and I come almost every saturday to enjoy this wonderful place. We always have a great experience at Worker Bee!
(5)Kym S.
We had such an amazing experience. The owners treated us like family and the food was awesome!
(5)Anh W.
The Worker Bee Cafe is a very quaint local joint. The place is literally decorated like a bee-hive. I ordered a regular breakfast of eggs, toast, and hash. It tasted good and I really enjoyed inside this bee-hive like place. I would come back.
(4)Tommy T.
First, no offense to anyone at the worker bee, I get that this is a mom and pop shop, we need more places like this in America.. The cook was an old Seabee.. Thanks for serving our country sir... His sweet wife was a peach too.. But, back to business.. I gave this place less-than-two-stars on Yelp because to me, I felt like the wait staff were reaching to serve me when I just wanted good food, not to be patronized.. And of course, there always has to be a good reason for me to rate a little place like this the way I am going to.. I quote the younger waiter guy (the son I assume) "Yeah, let me tell you what you can do if you don't like the service here".. I get it.. Jokes.. Ha Ha.. I for one, "did'nt order right" and got the "uuuuuuuuuuugh" (long sigh) from the lady when I finally ordered, but I got my act strait knowing if you piss the staff off at the "twilight zone of breakfast places", you get extra spit.. I bit my tounge out of respect.. well, respect like, knowing they don't care about me because I'm not a "local", (seems to be this stigma about Carp, I must have been asked 20 times if I was a local while I was there) Ordered coffee, an omelet, and the so called famous B n' G and.. waited.. And waited.. watched the people I was with eat.. Decided to go to the restroom to wash my hands, and took a peek into the kitchen while I waited, like a lot of other people did, and yeah, the potatoes looked awesome, even joked with the guy as he cooked.. Of course it was a "I don't care if you don't like it or not conversation" Got back to my table, waited some more.. Finally got my food, super excited and FAIL... Funny, but not funny.. My food comes, and I smell this dank, kind of sour smell coming from my food.. It was the cheese!! Holy omg people! The meager cheese on top was old and smelled.. So, I scraped the cheese off the top, and ok, problem solved.. Nope- First bite off the potatoes and.. Holy omg again.. Fail.. Picture this.. You're making mashed potatoes.. then you fry them in some kind of oil to brown them some.. and serve! Note to self, don't make mashed potatoes and call them "home fries".. Thankfully I was with a good group of really hungry people, that gladly ate what I did'nt.. about 8 to be exact.. So I saw a lot of food come out, and truth was, not a single person finished their whole plate, not even mine that got passed off. Bottom line, could have probably just said this and this only.. I knew that this was one of those buyer beware kind of places, so I threw her a $20 for $13 worth of food, and gave them the big "later"...
(2)Emily L.
My fiance and I stopped here on a whim, and I'm glad we did! The food was great. We live in Orange County, where mom and pop places have been crowded out by chains like Mimi's and Corner Bakery. I loved the cute little bee knick knacks. What an enjoyable experience.
(4)David R.
Went here for breakfast based on Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. We were there early enough that there were no other customers. The owner spent time talking to us about our trip to the area and the old missions we were there to see. The food was good, a bit pricey but would still go back.
(4)Giorgo P.
This restaurant was truly disappointing! I waited about 45min-hour for a simple club sand and salad. The other people at my table had an entree salad and a burger (there were only three of us.) While waiting for the food we overheard every other table also having a similar conversation about the extremely slow service. As a matter of fact, the table next to us decided to send a person across the street to pick up sushi just to tide them over. The funniest thing is that he got back just as the restaurant was bringing their food to the table; however, half the table was still waiting. Then when the waitress arrived she didn't get the hint that her service was too slow. Instead, she told them they can't bring food from outside. In my opinion she was lucky they hadn't walked out and just gone to eat at the other restaurant after the amount of time they waited. Anyway, when finally got our food I was surprised that all the salads seemed to be made with that "pre-bagged lettuce" making me wonder why it took so long. Then the burger that was ordered had a bun that was so soggy from grease that they couldn't even pick it up off the plate. We asked the waitress (the owner from the pictures) if we could have another bun, or at least the bottom half. Her response was "honey, look at all the stuff you put on the burger." She also added that "a chef will never give you just half a bun." The burger was that way we when got it. It was their mistake and she passed the blame on the customer. I have been working in customer service/hospitality for over 10 years and I would never consider responding to a guest that way. Lastly, the meal was over-priced and not work the cost or the wait. I don't recommend this place to anyone. Just go down the street to one of the many other diners. They might be busier and have a slight wait for a table, but trust me it's worth it. It'll probably take the same amount of time anyway....
(1)Corinne S.
Awesome breakfast place in Carpinteria. Definitely worth the wait. The decor is adorable, everyone was friendly, and the food was yummy! Try to get there early, though, as there seems to be more of a rush the later it gets in the day. And like someone else said - not good for big groups as it's only got around 12 tables or so.
(4)Clint S.
Place is great!!! New owner is really nice and accommodating. Best hash browns I had in years.
(5)staci b.
Breakfast: So we went this morning with 6 people. This charming mom and pop restaurant is really very good. My food was great, as it was for everyone at the table. Everything came out at the same time and no one had one complaint. For a group of 6 that's good. The owners are there talking to all the guests and taking our orders. It was friendly, warm and good. I will recommend this to any one who ventures up north.
(4)Donald s.
Went to the small home feel of a cafe, to find out it was not like home at all. We were seated three adults, one 8 year old and two children. The youngest was playing with his small toy at the table making car noises. we were served our drinks, then minutes later the waitress/wife of the cook, said her husband was not going to cook our meals, and we needed to leave. When asked why, she said the child was making to much noise. I would be more understanding if the child was running around being bad, but he was in his chair the whole time. We were in shock as we left the restaurant. Hopefully we just got the cook on a bad day, but regardless it was embarrassing, and we were second guessing the rest of our stay in such a beautiful town. good luck to the cafe and the patrons who go there. If you have children we suggest you keep walking to a Denny's.
(1)George C.
The food took FOREVER and wasn't worth the wait! And the husband and wife who run the place argue about EVERYTHING. I highly suggest not sitting at the bar because then you hear it all, plus get to see her slam open and close every door, drawer, and fridge.
(2)David D.
LOVE the Worker Bee. It's like being in your grandma's home kitchen. The owners are are so sweet and cheerful. The decor is lots of Bee stuff and Wizard of Oz. Great breakfast all the time! Yummy Patty Melts. You can't just help but be happy in a place full of lots of smiles and good food. There should be no complaining allowed in a place like this! :-)
(5)Cindy G.
We tried the Worker Bee based on the super reviews on Yelp....but were so disappointed! Food was okay, although my "over easy" eggs were almost hard -- otherwise it was just usual breakfast fare. The owners were polite, but not really friendly. The cafe was mostly empty, so they weren't too busy, just not interested. Jaime seemed annoyed to have to make a pot of decaf coffee, as "most people don't want decaf early in the morning." We tried.....but no love. Too many other choices in Carp to go back.
(2)Andrew V.
I love this place. The decor was very cute and appealing. The customer service was above and beyond even my highest expectations. They kept the coffee coming and did it with a smile. My deep hunger was satisfied to unprecedented levels. I can truly say I walked out of the worker bee a changed man.
(4)Kelly I.
This place is our staple breakfast location when visiting Santa Barbara and we will make a special trip down to Carp to come here. This past weekend we came down SB to celebrate our friends engagement (congrats J & B!!), and knew we had to eat here for breakfast Sunday morning. All the food is fantastic and made with love by the owners. If the excessive bee trinkets and garden soft colors start to make you nauseous just look at the food in front of you, all will be forgiven. All your basic comfort breakfast foods are there and done well. French toast, waffles, crispy thick cut bacon, fresh, perfectly scrambled (or basted if you're lucky) eggs and the list goes on. The biscuits are by far the best I've ever had and if you've got room have them smother it in gravy. You won't be disappointed.

Being from Texas and all, I know small diners and dives. This place is top on my list for Central California and mom and pop establishments. Don't go in expecting quick, grub 'n go cause Ma 'n Pa don't wanna move that fast and quite frankly they don't have too. (Remember that Carpinteria is a small, lazy town) They want you to come and chat it up with them. Wonderful biscuits and gravy and everything truly southern! Reminds me of Texas truck-stop diners off I35.. makes me home-sick.

Cute interior but nothing special in way of food

We waited an hour and a half, were constantly chastised by the owner for our elbows sticking out of the booths... And for all that, I got mediocre biscuits smothered in canned sausage-less gravy. Gross. Dont know about these other folks, but the bee motif wasn't enough to save that kind of experience.

Really really good breakfast! The best thick cut bacon I've had in a long time! The omelet had was full of yummy goodness! Jamie, the owner and server, was a doll! Will definitely go back when in the area! :)

We had read so many positive reviews on Yelp, and a few locals recommended this place. So, we passed over a few other interesting breakfast places to come here. We left after our slightly overpriced breakfast, disappointed and amused. Decor was as one would expect - heavy bee theme! But kind of cute and interesting in a home-spun way. Waitress (owner?) seemed tired but made an initial effort to be nice. But when I asked for a combination not strictly as per menu (muffins and links), she seemed to get huffy. My wife ordered biscuits and gravy. Coffee - basically diner coffee (hmm - stays fresh for hours). Links were shriveled and partly burned black Biscuits and gravy - kind of bland (definitely not Southern - my wife is from Texas and knows her B&G) Maybe other choices on the menu were better Server (owner?) attitude went downhill further as I declined more than one cup of coffee. She tried a couple of times to be cheerful, but it seemed that grouchiness won the struggle. By this time, the cook (owner?) was banging around behind the counter, clearly angry about something. Yet she seemed to be sweet as pie with some of the other customers. Maybe for some reason she took a dislike to us, as seems to be the case with the few other low ratings and reviews. Maybe foreigners or someone with an accent from outside the US are persona non gratis. In retrospect, if we had know that we would have experienced what we did, we would have chosen one of the other places in town. If you do want to try it, make sure you lower your expectations, order strictly from the menu, and don't engage the server in conversation.

I don't leave reviews as often any more, as there are few unique places left in Orange County, where I currently live. While staying in Carpinteria for my Uncles wedding, my family and I were looking for breakfast on the 4th of July. Based on Yelp rating, we chose the Worker Bee Cafe. Everything was as expected. Both Mom and Pop were there, Pop in the kitchen and Mom working the tables. Service was very friendly and attentive, the food was good, and the decor was homely. Two large families came in after us, and after they were seated, the staff gave the kids a big bucket of toys to keep them occupied. I wish I could find more places like this in the OC, but places like this give small town their small town charm.

I love this place!!! Owners are funny and friendly. Its diner food so you cant expect more then that(a little greasy, but can't hurt.) But I love it for a hamburger or turkey sandwich and fries. Its a cute little place with bee decorations everywhere. The cook is a crack up! And breakfast is good as well. Giant pancakes, go early on the weekends because it gets jammed.

Small town breakfast joint, small town feel. I loved the place. The minute my gf and I walked in, we were greeted by the waitress and the cook. Filled up our mugs with coffee for free and made friendly small talk while they prepped our food. The waffles had a delicious almond extract batter and the service was phenomenal. I love this place. Everyone there was a local, everyone had their regular items, and everybody knew everybody. I wish there was a place like this in my neck of the woods.

The service was slow (an hour to get food after being seated). The food was marginal. I will not be back.

The Worker Bee Cafe is a wonderful place to br ing the family. If you have children, they will bring you a small tub of toys for you kids. The breaksfast taste great. It is the best Country Fried Chicken in Carpinteria. The place is small, homey and friendly.

This is one of the friendliest places that my husband and I stopped in during our road trip from Texas to Washington. The owners are as sweet and helpful as can be, food was great, and prices are reasonable. Cute decor....had a bee theme. Would definitely recommend!!

The epitome of a quaint family owned restaurant. Charming decor, fantastic food. Can't wait to come back!

Food is top notch, but if your hungry order right away, service is a bit on the slow side. Seems like a Mom and Pop run place. If you have kids they will bring you a container filled with kids friendly toys to keep them busy. Generous portions with that down home flavor. Enjoy!

This was a super cute little diner that appears to be solely ran by a wife and husband. It was a great find for us to enjoy on vacation and I will go again when in Carpinteria. The food was amazing and the place super cute. Only suggestion would be not to go if you are in a rush as this is not a short order cook type place, but a homestyle meal cooked to order place which was great.

Ate at this cute little restaurant two days in a row while I was in Carpinteria this past weekend. The egg breakfasts are AMAZING. I had an omelet with bacon and all the veggies and one of their biscuits with gravy the first morning and the chicken fried steak with eggs the next. The home style potatoes are some of the best I've ever had. It might not be the best place to go if you're on a tight schedule, but the food and service are more than worth the wait.

Yummy breakfasts and lunch served-up by friendly mom-n-pop in this cutely kitschy cafe. Three of us (myself and two teens) ordered omelets with hashbrowns and French toast, while my husband got the mushroom Swiss burger and fries. The food was simple and delicious (basic, homey, breakfast and lunch fare). We found the place on Yelp, as we were just driving through Carpinteria. Our drinks were refilled before they even hit the halfway mark, and the owners (cook and server) both chatted with us and made sure everything was alright.

My dad has been buddies with the owners since they opened. I don't remember what year that was because it feels like the owners have always been at that site making good food. My dad likes all of the omlettes and the biscuits and gravy for sure. The oatmeal with added raisins and nuts is very happy too. The waffles are the size of an enormous plate and are just a great example of what a buttermilk waffle should taste like. The owners are very nice and all the times we have been it seems that they have a happy and jokester attitude with all of their customers (and that is a good thing). Plus you'll get your monies worth.

Can it get any better than this! Small, cozy, fast and friendly service. Nick naks and a little bucket of toys for the kids. Ohh yeah , the food. Smooth, butterey, crispy, home made, flavor full, large portions, rich, just plain delicous. No weird addon's. No gimmicks. The way all food should be! I highly advise the omelette or the waffle.

I came here with my husband and son hoping to get a typical greasy spoon mom & pop breakfast on a late Friday morning. Not too many people in the little place, thought we'd get in and out fast. When the older waitress/owner? asked to take our order, my son wasnt ready so she said she'd be back. She came back a few minutes later and we ordered some overpriced eggs & hashbrowns. No coffee at $2.25. After 15 minutes of looking at the faded dusty bee knick knacks all over the place my husband said he'd go look in the antique shop next door and to call him when the order came in. Smart move. Watched the waitress fawn all over a local little boy that came in while she totally ignored us. 30 minutes later I was able to grab her attention and politely asked if she knew the status of our order. WOW did I get a TONGUE LASHING! She said in a loud mean voice, IF YOU HAD BEEN READY TO ORDER WHEN I CAME YOU WOULDNT HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG! I was so embarassed I didnt know what to say! Well, 15 minutes later our average greasy breakfast arrived with no apologys. Her fake smile and bad attitude towards non-locals would get her a good job at the DMV but we will not be back.

My fiance and father took our 2 year old daughter there this past Saturday and were treated extremely poorly. They were seated and proceeded to wait to place their order while our daughter played with the little jam packages on the table. The waitress (who apparently is an owner) came and brought a bucket of toys for my daughter and said "Now, I only brought these toys out for her because we have older patrons that open the jam packages with their mouths. So if you could have her play with these and not touch those, that would be appreciated." Ok, sooooo weird! Who does that?! And why can't older people open the jam packages like normal people...like with their hands??? If you are so hung up on not wanting people to touch your jams, why don't you put them behind your counter where people can't touch them! My fiance and father then proceeded to wait and wait and wait to be served. They noted that 3 other parties that were seated after them all got served before them. Now I don't know if the owner's there are racist or just against families in general, but coincidentally my fiance just happens to be african american and my father is hispanic. Apparently, the owners are an older white couple. Maybe they are just against younger people. I don't know. Just putting it out there. I am white too and have no patience for ignorance or for people who single out a tiny 2 year old little girl for merely playing with jam packets. I will never visit this establishment again nor will I ever recommend it!

Small but cute place...apparently a favorite of the locals. But we arrived yesterday 2/7/10 and waited quite some time for coffee and another 20 minute for our bowls of uncooked oatmeal. Hm. Nice people, but there are other places in town just as cook (Camomille Cafe or Cajun Kitchen)

You can't find a better greasy spoon breakfast than what's cooked up by Oscar and served up by Jamie at the Worker Bee Cafe. As a local, I generally avoid the place on weekends unless I can get there for opening. It's that popular. The home-fries are the best I've ever tasted and Oscar (the cook), will make your eggs any way you like them and get it exactly right. Well, I haven't asked him for a french omelet yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could ace one of those, too. Since they cook everything from scratch, and since the place is generally packed, you can expect it to take about 20 to 30 minutes for your meal. While they're kid friendly, they (quite reasonably) expect parents to parent their children. Finally, if you're trying to lose weight, this is really not the place for you. Portions are enormous, and they don't skimp on the butter.
