Em Le's is the type of restaurant you'd expect in the sleepy town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. It's a warm, little cottage that serves breakfast all day. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was a hobbit. I've eaten here a couple times and I've never had a problem getting a table despite the restaurant's small size. The staff is very friendly and easy to flag down if you need anything. They have an extensive menu for breakfast and lunch and everything I have tried is very good. I would encourage anyone in the area to try Em Le's at least once. It will be a good experience - maybe not life changing, but good.

2.7 stars for dinner.... mostly bland, flavorless (albeit cooked properly) fish that we tried. I do believe that Em Le's shines for breakfast dishes, and is geared more toward seniors for the dinner hour. Ahi tuna and salmon entrees tried....though the portions were extremely large (which, I have to add, reminded me of certain Kitchen NIghtmares episodes) and enough to feed perhaps 3, all the value of the dinner at ~$15 price point still couldn't convince me Large salads, large mains.... small on actual delivery and cooking technique. The service, however, was most excellent, and the restaurant is country charm meets quirky.

Went there for breakfast last month (January 2014) based on the picture of a fruit covered Belgian waffle. The waffle was all that it promised to be - fresh fruit and a crunchy waffle. I had the corned beef hash - also delicious. Coffee was perfect. Jimmy (owner? chef? manager?) was friendly, helpful and had a wonderful sense of humor. The other customers were locals - gave the place a great homey vibe. We will most definitely to back for breakfast - and possibly for lunch and dinner.
