Reliable, yummy Mexican food. Good 'ritas, solid mole enchiladas and this amazing beef/cactus/cheese/rachera sauce dish that has to be tasted to be believed.

Nice family style restaurant. Food is good and reasonably priced. A nicer atmosphere than Mucho Mas. Service is good too. Had so far a good chile rellano and seafood burrito. No lard in the beans (for fellow vegetarians). Nothing too wild, just good and dependable.

place is good, nothing to write home about. their fajitas are tasty, but the place has gotten pretty expensive for what it is. the margaritas make the place better, and happy hour makes the price of the drinks a good value.

I've been to this place once. The food was below par, but it wasn't the worst Mexican I've had. The waiter was very attentive, but this place was nearly empty on a Saturday night. I don't think I'm alone in my opinion of the food. With the lack of business, the food wasn't the freshest. I'm not going back. The food was pretty expensive. I would suggest using one of the numerous coupons available if you're going here.

One word (or grunt) - "meh." It's alright. I believe another user said, "nothing to write home about." And they're right. I went to Tequilas for traditional "Taco Tuesday." I entered the place, hoping to sit at the bar in Tequilas and get my marg and tacos. The following point does not inspire my review. But, there's no bar in a place called Tequilas? Really? So I sat at a table, and ordered a house marg on the rocks w/ salt. And ordered 1 chicken and 1 beef taco. Tacos aren't what I usually get when I go to a Mexican joint. But, what the hell... It's Tuesday! Time for tacos! The salsa came to the table with the tortilla chips. The salsa was fresh, filled with fresh vegetables. The onions were crunchy, and tomato chunks firm. But it felt uninspired. There was nothing great or special about their salsa. To those that go to a multitude of different Mexican joints - you know what I'm talking about right? It just wasn't there for me. The tortilla chips, on the other hand, were really good: crunchy, slightly browned, warm, of good thickness, etc. The margarita came. And it was sweet, tangy, and had a good flavor. However, that being said, it tasted more like a virgin margarita. I couldn't sense any tequila in it. And that may have been the case, as the "bartender" (and I used that term loosely, for not having a bar) might just be really good at mixing everything together to mask the bite of alcohol. It was good, don't get me wrong. But it tasted more like candy, than a cocktail. I got my tacos. And I immediately started with the beef one. The beef taco was pretty awesome. It was packed with flavor, juicy, and perfect for what I came in there for. I'm awful at eating tacos. So much so that every time I take a bite of a taco, the filling falls out the other side. I think I need to learn the art of taco eating more (keep the jokes to yourself -yeah, I'm a dirty joke teller too, when not on Yelp). ;) Then I started in on my chicken taco. I love chicken. Who doesn't love chicken? Vegetarians always eat many chicken substitutes to try to regain the glory of that flavor, right? So I take my first bite. I guess I was expecting the chicken taco to kick me in the nuts, and have me questioning why I ever loved the beef taco so much. But no, it wasn't amazing. And then... GRISTLE! Damn chicken gristle. The same consistency as accidentally munching into your cheek, without the pain. And I bit into a chunk of it. For me, chicken gristle is a deal-breaker. I finished the taco like a champ. But I wasn't happy about it. I finished off the beans, rice, and guacamole on the plate, paid my bill. I had the planned to not make any efforts to return, because I know of better places in the neighborhood. I guess the server sensed this, and gave me a coupon for free guacamole upon my next visit. Damn him. Now I have to try this all again. You can't say no to free guacamole, can you? ...Can you? Anyone?

We went there last night and had a BLAST! Carlos (the manager) was BEYOND AMAZING. He came to chat at our table and changed all the amazing flat screen TVs to the Grammy coverage. The service was PERFECTION. We NEVER had to ask for extra salsa, or chips (and they were sooooooooo good). Their margarita was one of the best I've had and if you like shrimp....THIS IS YOUR PLACE. They certainly have remodeled the place and it has become our new favorite spot!!! Also...they have all the finest tequilas around. This place is great for birthday celebrations, work parties, and even a nice romantic dinner. WINNER!!!!!! FIVE BIG STARS!

I've been to this restaurant both before and after the new ownership. The food and prices are still great but now the decor is better. It actually looks alot classier now - dark wood and chocolate/black booths with pleasant dim lighting. It was very kitchy and fiesta-like before, with a little bit of grandmas kitchen and olive garden-esque mixed in. Much nicer now. I went with a friend on a busy holiday weeknight, and I think the staff was actually better than they were before. I can't say if it was the same people since I wasn't a habitual regular, but I felt like there was a lot more energy from the waitstaff and they were more attentive than in past visits. The manager/owner stopped by to say hello and make sure everything was going ok. Our drinks were refilled several times without us having to flag anyone down and the plates were cleared away and check brought out in a timely manner but without being pushy. I'll be returning to show the new digs to my husband.

Had such a great time at this place. Food was great, service was great, Carlos the owner is a super nice guy, and there was an awesome singer/guitarist going from table to table without being obnoxious or invasive. Just great vibes all around. My friends and I were extremely glad we took the chance and stopped in. We will definitely be back. Such a fun night!

The food was just OK; a little overpriced in my opinion...and the average age of the customers was 87 years old. Not that old people suck or anything...

I've been meaning to check this place out; primarily for Margarita Mondays, when the margs are $1.99. However, the family was in town, and I noticed they had a Sunday Champage Brunch for $10.99. Done and done. As we walked in we were greeted by the sole server. The ambiance was....like an old style, homey, mexican restaurant...or my grandma's house...either way the food looked good and the champagne was bottomless. There is no bar though, which makes me feel like I shouldn't come and drown myself in margaritas; just not the right setting for it. In terms of food, we're talking quality over quantity. A phenomenal chicken menudo (I WILL try and duplicate it at home), chilequiles, rice/beans, a good beef, fajita style chicken, marinated fish (thought a bit over-cooked), enchiladas, fresh fruit, churro bites, bunuelos, flan, and a seriously delicious cheesecake. Simple, but worth every penny. My only wish was that there was an outdoor patio. I love my grandma's house, but I like playing outside, you know? I get a little claustrophobic with the peach and sea green booths and wall murals of old ranches and such. Other than that, go and try it! You won't regret it.

I've been to Tequilas twice, the first time I tried the Enchiladas Suizas and the second time I tried the Enchiladas Rancheras with shredded beef instead of chicken. Their enchiladas are some of the best I've had anywhere in L.A. The tenderness of the meat and the flavor was better than I thought it would be. I'm hispanic and have tried homemade enchiladas along with tons of Mexican restaurants and I must admit Tequila's enchiladas are really good. They also have good margaritas on the rocks! Not sure about anything else on the menu though. UPDATE: 6/24/10 - Went back to Tequilas to get some Enchiladas and unfortunately this time I was very disappointed. The cook that used to be there is not there anymore. The enchiladas were just OK this time, but nothing special... too bad!

Good ol' Tequilas. This is were I come get a quick Tex-Mex fix. They have a lunch buffet and the place usually isn't very crowded. The food is about par with all other restaurants in the area. Not great, nothing horrible. So far, so good. Service is friendly. They have $2 Margs on Monday all day so come wash down that delicious Carne Guisada or what ever they call it here. They usually have a few different options each time i come here along with the staple of beans and rice, enchiladas, taquitos, and some type of fajita. I like the salsa and crisp chips they give you and they make a perfect accompaniment to some happy hour drinks.

started going here because of a coupon we got in the mail.. buy one get one free for REAL im in.. who doesnt like a free meal. so to my surprise when i finally found this place i was surprised it was EMPTY.. i had a watermelon margarita.. whom i kidding i had multiple margaritaS.. and each one more delish than the next and full on yummy tequila.. naturally.. i also had the chille rilleno which i hardly am able to find in mexican rest. so i happily ordered with rice and beans.. also which a cheese enchilada which i was going to save for tomorrows lunch.. when i got my food it was to my surprise alot alot alot.. and i ate it all which is saying ALOT ! everything was good and spicy perfectly hot and seasoned and our waiter was fast and never batted an eye or huffed and puffed when we kept asking for basket after basket of chips and tons and tons of salsa.. needless to say this is now a regular place we go to .. its good and you cant beat a buy one get one free meal :D

You know, me being Mexican can sometimes get in the way of finding a GOOD Mexican restaurant. While all you silly white people rave about Los Toros in Granada Hills or Don Cuco's in Burbank, I am sorry to say that you've been fooled into thinking that food like that is supposed to be edible. I believed San Diego was the only place, other than Mexico, to get really good Mexican food (Ok Ok so Los Fuentes in Reseda is actually really good. I'd be crazy about it if they had a full bar and their Margarita's weren't made of yucky Sutter Home wine). Tequila's changed my mind. It only took a coupon in some coupon magazine to drive me and my girlfriend there. Coincidently we actually went on a Monday when they had their Margarita Monday special for only $1.99. Now if you like your Margarita's then you'd know that Acapulco Restaurants (Damn chains) has a similar Margarita Monday Special for $2.75. What's the difference? Tequila's actually puts alcohol in theirs!!! And it's cheaper! So we had a coupon for a combination platter. I cringed because any true Mexican food lover would know never to order a combination platter at any restaurant! For some reason it always taste as if it were popped out of a Hungry Man's frozen package, covered in tomato sauce, and served to you. When our food arrived I looked at my plate in disgust knowing I was going to be disappointed. I finished off my 2nd Tamarind margarita, held that fork as if it were a weapon, broke a piece of my Tamale off and shoved it in my mouth. As soon as my tasted buds were awakened, tears ran down my cheek as fast as a giant waterfall! How could I've been so evil to ever wrong my Mexican brothers!!! The food actually had taste to it and to make it better it was better than anything I have tasted in Los Angeles!!! The shredded beef in the taco had so many juices and spices! The rice and beans were so amazingly good, that after finishing off my Taco, Tamale, and Cheese Enchilada, I was ready to order more beans and rice. But alas the night had to come to an end and I spared the extra beans and rice for a few more Margarita's. As I wobbled/stumbled to my car (don't worry I didn't drive) all I could do was smile knowing that my dreams tonight were going to be peaceful and It was only 7 more days until next Monday.

Some of the reviewers here say there is a brunch at the Burbank location there is not. apparently only the Van Nuys location. anyway showed up here for brunch on a sunday morning, place was empty. stayed anyway and ordered combo fajitas of steak, chicken and shrimp. Not bad but for the price could have been better. Service wasn't lousy but wasn't great either. Not bad for a local place.

I've been here numerous times because of the coupon they send out for buy one get one free, which is great. Only thing is the waiter gave us so much attitude when we used the coupon, I mean he wasn't even trying to hide his distaste for us. Dude! I tip on the original amount prick. I boycotted the place for a bit but its hard to turn down such a good deal, so when I feel like average food and attitude I always go to Tequilas.

Overall very good, the chile colorado is bland (maybe I should try to make it myself) however the refried beans are authentic! Absolutely amazing. :)

initially, i thought this place was kinda special. never too crowded... mediocre service... super cheap happy hour (32 oz margarita for $10.. most appetizers averaging $5).. but, after attending a handful more times and getting sick (as in, having literally the worse cases of food poisoning i have ever had) from their food on more than one occasion, it became apparent that the happy hour wasn't the only thing cheap about this place. *the first time we visited this location, my boyfriend and i both got sick. (apparently they had to be shut down because they were using rotten tomatoes for their salsa-no joke). another time, i thought was just because i had one of those 32 oz margaritas to myself.. but after the 3rd time, having the same brutal bathroom issues for DAYS, it was quite clear to me, the food was not safe to eat* the management was also very difficult. when we complained about being sick, they accused us of making it up and refused to give us any compensation. if i had a thumb for every finger, they would get 10 thumbs down.

Sunday brunch, it's basically the weekday lunch buffet with champagne. They charge $10.99 instead of $7.99(weekday price) and the service is better, still a good deal for all you get.

Decorating all nite decided to grab a quick bite one order of taquitos that cost me 15 dollars with a tip! gross dry and flavorless got two salsas and both were so bad i walked back in to put salt on my muddy beans and asked for bottled sauce for some flavor! Note if you can't even make salsa better than a gringa pack it up .I will never go here again!!!!!!! I advise you all to drive to the nearest taco truck you will be much happier!!

Love, love, LOVE this place! I first discovered Tequilas over a year ago as I was driving down Magnolia Blvd and looking for a good drink. I love tequila, so when I found a restaurant named after my favorite liquor I just had to pull over! All their margaritas are absolutely delicious. I especially like their honeymoon margarita; it's to die for! Tequilas' food is also amazing. I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all so good. I really like this shrimp stew meal they have. The salsa is also delicious. My boyfriend and I recently discovered that Tequilas serves happy hour from 2-7PM everyday, so we literally come here every Saturday to get a couple drinks and a fiesta platter. The thing I like most about this place though is the service. Everyone is so nice and when you walk in the door they seem to be really happy you're there. If you're in the area and want a great place to eat check this place out!

Went for a quiet lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Wonderfully friendly staff, excellent margaritas, authentic Mexican flavors, and good value for the price. Although it was not happy hour, I notice the daily bar specials were a great price. I will certainly return!

I've been driving by this place and looking at their coupons for years but never made it in despite the fact that it's up the block. Well, it will now be on our regular rotation. We went on a Saturday night and it was not crowded at all. The place is cute and the service was attentive. The menu has a few atypical items. We're not looking for fancy, but basic food a step above Baja Fresh or Poquito Mas. I had the taquitos and my husband had the shrimp enchiladas. They were both great. The taquitos were fresh and the chicken filling was tasty. The shrimp enchiladas were also very tasty. The beans were a little salty, but I'm a little picky about too much salt. We're very satisfied and look forward to going back. Try it out!

Decided to try this place for the great reviews on their ceviche. I went there on a Monday, they didn't have ceviche. The fish wasn't thawed out, it was frozen. HUGE disappointment. Waitress took 1/2 hour to take our order then had a waiter try to tell us that happy hour was over before we could put in our food order. The tacos al carbon were meh.

This is a great place. parking lot a little small but plenty of street parking. Food is good and GREAT prices for happy hour! Service is excellent never had to wait long for food or drinks. Friday night (6/14/13) was the first time I ate at this restaurant. My friends had been here a few times before. I had a veg burrito, which was really not good. I only ate a few bites of that and the refried beans. I also had a margarita, which tasted fine, and the salsa, which tasted good. 24 hours later, I woke up in the middle of the night exploding from both ends. At first, I thought it was something I had eaten on Saturday, but when I called my friend asking for help (since I couldn't very well go out to get myself electrolyte-infused water and ginger ale, and my SO is out of town), I found out she was experiencing the same symptoms and that they had also started about 24 hours after we ate here. Suffice it to say, I'm never setting foot in this place again. Really not worth the risk. I've been in bed for 2 1/2 days with this thing and am finally starting to feel like I might be able to walk down the street without passing out or crapping my pants. If it had just been a blah burrito, I wouldn't have bothered with a review, but food contamination is a very serious and entirely preventable issue.

I am not from this area and was looking for an authentic, delicious, and reasonably priced Mexican restaurant. This place was a pleasant and valuable find. The chips and salsa were crispy and tasty. The albóndigas soup that my boys ordered was really good. But the highlight of our meal was the molcajete dish recommended by our friendly waiter. The fondue and Mexican cactus, shrimp and beef combo was to die for! The service was friendly and warm. I am sorry they don't have a place like this close to home.

Ordered fajitas and margaritas and couldn't be happier. Meat was delicious and so werw the margaritas. Lots of top shelf tequila to choose from (I had the Cuervo Tradicional Silver 100% Blue Agave) and a childrens menu that my little one enjoyed (cheese quesadilla for her). We also caught the end of happy hour and got to enjoy some great drink prices. Giving it five stars because the price is excellent considering the quality of food and drink plus the server was very attentive.

Tequila's mexican restaurant has low-key charm and delicious food. The food is fresh and authentic. The restaurant is clean and the menu has a nice variety. They prepare a traditional fare menu without being boring or predictable. My food was not heavy or greasy. This an issue I have with many restaurant's cooking methods. Also check out the a buffet during the week for &7.99. I have not tried it yet, but I am looking forward to partaking in this deal soon. If you can make your way over to Tequila's I believe you will be in for a treat.

I was working with some friends on a Saturday and we were tired and looking for a cozy place with good food, My friends are originally from Mexico and I have been eating Mexican food all over Mexico and the US for decades. The food at Tequilas shocked the hell out of us. It was BY FAR the best Mexican food I've ever had. And they have Victoria on tap!!! Who would have thought that this sleepy place in Burbank with a sign that's impossible to read from the street would have totally blown me away. I can't wait to go back.

Tequila's is very close to me so I've been there several times. My experiences have ranged from excellent to horrible with good-but-not-great being the average - partly from a food quality perspective but especially from a service perspective. I often go there for their very good happy hours - excellent prices on some very good and tasty food (I'm especially partial to the steak quesadilla) - and the 48 oz jumbo margarita for $10 is a flat-out bargain ... not to mention the perfect after-work decompressor! But while the food is quite good (I've eaten dinner there several times as well), the service ranks among some of the worst I've experienced. I've had great service when I'm there during the week - but the weekends are a completely different story as the vast majority of the time I've been there on Fri or Sat my waitress was rude and uncaring. Last weekend, I took family there for dinner. My sister-in-law ordered a cheese quesadilla but was delivered one with chicken. When she pointed it out to our waitress, she gave my SIL a look of disgust, as though it was an inconvenience her entree was incorrect - no "I apologize", no I'll take care of it" - nothing. Then she asked my SIL if she wanted a cheese quesadilla?!? With a look of shock, my SIL said "no, I'll eat this one - but can you just charge me for cheese?". And instead of saying "absolutely!", she tells her she'll "...have to talk to my mgr to see if that's ok" - seriously?? And it just got worse after that (didn't bring us additional drinks we ordered, didn't come back to ask how things were). But worst of all: when we got our bill, it included a ... wait for it ... wait for it ... chicken quesadilla! Pathetic.

came here on a Saturday night with my bf...the vibe of the place was very cozy with dim lighting. Live singer with acoustic guitar singing English and Spanish songs really added appeal to the restaurant. Perfect for a date night or a night out for dinner and drinks with friends! Service was great..chips and salsa amazing and food was decent. We will definitely come back!!

The restaurant has a nice ambience. The staff is nice and I like the bar. I went once for dinner and thought the food was good. I went back for brunch. The brunch wasn't good. Too expensive for the quality of food. The food was warm not hot. They have someone making hand made tortillas which were okay.

Great little place with generous happy hour deals and daily specials. I went on Taco Tuesday recently and had a margarita and two tacos for $6, which was more than enough to fill me up. I was able to feed the family for just over $20 (tip included). That's less than a lot of counter places we go to. And the food is great to boot. We've tried a few other Mexican restaurants in the area, but this is the one we keep coming back to.

Food is excellent without being overpriced... the drinks are good also... Generous portions of authentic tasting mexican food, in a nice setting.... that is if you don't mind a Sports Bar type setting with Televsion's in every corner, with two different games playing - while your trying to eat, and people getting excited and yelling at the top of their lungs when their team scores while your trying to have a romantic dinner can be distracting. I recommend this place for people who like to watch sports while they eat dinner, personally I find it a turn off and only try to come by when no big games are going to be on TV.

Finally decided to take them up on their constant coupon offers. I don't know how often you have to receive a coupon to place before they start looking desperate, but I'm starting to get an idea. I'll start off by saying that I really like the Burbank area...but after reading some of the reviews for this joint, I'm keeping my windows and doors locked at night. Can't believe some of the locals expectations on what should be decent to good Mexican food. This place isn't in some mid-western crap town where the locals might have few choices...locals around here should know better. This place was a total disappointment. Margarita tasted like the pre-made stuff from CVS. Food was cold, which matched their staff. I'd like to dig a little further in the review but honestly I can't really find a reason to. People, there's a reason why they spend so on their coupon onslaught. I'm guessing their repeat business isn't cutting it.

I LOVE the new look/renovations! Went in on a recent weeknight for a late dinner with a friend and were treated to excellent food and service. I had the beef chimichanga which was positively delicious. Paired with an awesome margarita that really helped to dial down a hectic work day. My friend (who's new to the valley) was a first-time customer and raved about the place saying that we wanted to make it one of his new regular spots. I just hope this place doesn't get as popular as Salsa & Beer which is now packed most of the time. I'm happy for them but us old-timers (from Papas & Beer) long for the quieter times.

Amazing little bar! Nacho was a great bartender! So nice and made sure I was happy. And the food was delicious. Had the chicken enchilada with perfect rice and beans. Tasted very authentic. Came back 2 days later and had it again just to make sure I wasn't dreaming! I can't wait to go back! Plus they had the game on and it was a fun time in this awesome little bar! There is a resturaunt also that looks clean and new. I heard they have $1 tacos on Tuesday I'm going to have to check it out.

I've been to the Tequilas in Van Nuys many times so decided to give this one a try. Went with a girlfriend arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes before happy hour ended. They sat us right away but had to wait a while before they took our order. By then happy hour was almost over. Our order- I told the waiter that I'd like to order 2 drinks now, but he told me that he would still give me the happy hour price later. We asked a few questions about the appetizers and he seemed semi informed. We ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, the Chicken Nachos and the Spicy Wings(not the BBQ wings). We ordered our nachos with beans on the side. The Server/Busser- As we waited for our drinks and food we noticed that there was only 1 Server, 1 Busser and who knows how many cooks, but we assumed not many. We also observed one table repeatedly trying to get the waiter's attention and another table yell at him for giving them a wrong order and then taking too long to bring the right one. I do have to say that I don't tottally blame the server for the bad service. There is no bar or cantina in this location so our server was also in charge making drinks as well as basically handling the whole resaurant by himself. The busser wasn't very helpful, although he did try. The language barrier was just too much I guess. I tried to ordering another drink with him but he brought me back my same glass with water in it! The drinks- I prefer my bartender at the Van Nuys location because these drinks were weak. I ordered a Melon Margarita on the rocks, my friend a Pina Colada. It wasn't even worth the money to her to order another one. The food-We were supprised to see that our beans were served on the side (since we are so used to most modifications being igored at the other location). Although the Nachos were a very small portion, for the price I can't complain too much. But of course our Wings came out BBQ instead of Spicy. No big deal, we ate them anyway. The quesadilla was the best choice out of what we choose. The portion was big and it wasn't too crispy and there was a nice amount of chicken inside. Sure its pretty hard to mess up a Quesadilla, even my 7 year old nephew can make a mean one! The bill-We received the happy hour price for everything that we ordered off the happy hour menu regardless if it was past the time or not.

Ate here the other night, which was sort of inevitable in that the place is located right next to my dentist, whom you should visit. Nice cozy and inviting place and staff, good chips and salsa. But the fish tacos and chile colorado were very bland. Why is it so hard to get even passable Mexican food in LA? No reason to return. We don't drink so margaritas don't help with this.

Amazinglly fantastic food. I love watching the dodgers game on the flat screens while sipping a Corona and eating a killer authentic Mexican meal. Portions are huge and the price is rite!! Love it!

Stopped in for a quick drink. Awesome service from the owner. They have great Happy Hour deals from 2-7pm. Inlcuding a $10 48 ounce mega margarita!!! I am just visiting from out of town, but I would stop in here again during my next trip for another drink and to try the food.

I just had the food here delivered. It was still really hot and arrived earlier than expected. I had the 3 enchilada dinner, the 3 different flavors were a delight and because I don't like cilantro, they left it off. They even went 1 step further and put the sauces in separate containers. The chips were not too salty, very thin & crispy. They were very tasty. Can't wait to visit the place.

Stumbled on this place one day just driving by. LOVED it. The happy hour specials were great, the salsa was above average, chips were hot and fresh. One of us got a typical taco platter and the other the chicken fajita chimichanga. Both were very delicious. We really liked how the beans were not completely mashed; they had lots of whole beans in them too. Everything was great and we definitely plan to go back. Try it!

  • Garrett B.

Let me qualify by saying I've only been there for lunch. With that said, the food was of very low quality. The chips were stale, the salsa tasted like it was probably Pace Picante Sauce, the cheese in the cheese enchalada was bad, the beans were only ok, and the taco used low quality meat. The only thing that saved the meal is that the servers were all great. They were friendly, attentive without being a bother, and patient with a party of 8.

We have tried this place a few times because of their cheap drink specials but we are left dissatisfied each time. The food is also mediocre and not as tasty as we'd like. The staff is friendly and attentive and always quick with their service. Maybe we will try again due to the change in management.

WARNING! This is NOT the same Tequilas that was there before. We were long-time customers of Tequilas. It was never the best food in the area, but it was good, you got a lot for your money and they often had coupons. I just purchased two restuarant.com vouchers on January 29th, and we decided to go tonight. We got there and saw they have a new sign with a new name, Tequilas Cantina and Grill. We get inside and the smell of paint was overwhelming. The interior is completely redecorated with yellow walls and terribly cheap black, modern tables and chairs. The center section where the divider wall used to be is now back to back tables and chairs...the kind where it's next to impossible to get in and out if you're sitting down the middle of that section....you're constantly bumping into the person behind you and vice versa. Gone is the quaint mexican mural on the back wall. So we sit down and see the same waitress as before who often screwed up our order (they'd always make good on it though). We put our restaurant.com voucher on the end of the table so they know we're going to use it. A waitress takes our drink order and brings us chips and a tiny bowl of salsa that's gone with about 4 chips. We take a look at the menu (with new fronts) and the inside is the exact same menu as before. The regular waitress finally comes by to take our order and picks up the voucher and looks at it and then says that they don't accept them anymore. I question her and she says there is a new owner. I tell her it's still Tequilas and we just bought the vouchers a few days before. She says she'll check with the manager. Then this other guy comes by and basically just repeats what she says. I reiterate that we just bought them a few days before. He says it's not his fault that the previous owner hasn't changed it on restaurant.com . Well, that's true. But is it really worth it to cause trouble for long-time customers and alienate them? Even if they can't accept the restauarant.com voucher, they should have offered a similar discount. The other Tequila's would have and in fact did just that when I showed up with an expired coupon. So, I said, "Fine, we're leaving....this is really bad business, and you've just lost long-time customers." That didn't seem to phase him. We walked out to our car and I popped my head back in and told the waitress that I was going to write a bad review on Yelp. Then that man and another one came out after me, chiding and laughing at me saying, "Good luck with that, senior...good luck with that!" How unprofessional. Just on principle, I hope people won't patronize this restaurant. I have no idea if the food is any better or worse than before, but I won't ever go back to see. These people need a course in customer service relations. UPDATE: Carlos Rivera just sent me an email. He says, "It's unfortunate that you lost your temper before letting the staff offer you a 25% discount on your check while still keeping your voucher to use at the tequilas restaurant and grill located on victory and woodman." But, he still didn't offer the discount! Guess he doesn't really want us back. The apology was welcome, but they need to learn that it's customer's repeat business that keeps a restaurant successful.

Food was excellent. Waiter was good but felt like he was the only one sometimes. It got crazy busy real quick.

We were the only ones in there, and were seated at a table with no lighting. The menu was unreadable. The hostess sat us at another table when we asked, though. The margaritas were average. We ordered an appetizer sampler platter, that wasn't very flavorful. El Torito has one that's much better. All in all, the company was great, but the food and drinks, meh.

Great food, live music at your table and spacious eating area. The salsa and guac are good. Try the sopes or steak tacos. They are amazing! Service started out fast but lag a bit during the meal.

This little spot has some of the most amazing Mexican food I have ever had. Print out a coupon at the website and try some of the more expensive items that are for $15.99. The Beef On The Rocks is by far my favorite plate. Their regular items are alright but I would go for the pricier ones. Their chips and salsa and their buffet are not really worth it. The drinks specials are amazing and the service is good. Even though the decor is not the best, and not all the food items are amazing. Some of the plates I have had can rival some of the pricier and more well known Mexican joints in L.A. And only for a fraction of the price.

Great deal and the food is good. They usually have deals posted to yelp so that's a huge plus. It gets a little crowded sometimes, but I'm sure for a business... that's not a bad thing! Definitely on my regular list of restaurants to frequent!

Adore this place! The food & drinks are so good. The Happy Hour prices are great and the huge margarita is a must! lol The staff is very friendly and attentive, this is a perfect spot for girls night or a nice dinner with your honey GO ASAP you will love it.

The food is nothing to rave about, but if you're looking for a place with basic Mexican food staples and cheap margaritas and beer (especially during happy hour) this is your place. Be warned: the bar area is extremely small

I recently returned to Tequilas, after my previous visit last year. What an improvement with the resent remodel and the addition of a bar and several huge flat screen TV's, to see different sports games all at the same time. I started with chips and green salsa. The salsa was great, with tiny chunks of meat in it. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole. The mole was good too, without the gritty taste you sometimes get and with a hint of chocolate flavor. I will defiantly go back ,because there are a lot more items on the menu I would like to try.

We just returned from dinner here tonight. It's close to home and we've been coming here for years. I was Jonesing for Mexican food so it seemed like a good idea. Under new ownership! BEWARE! They've remodeled, put in too many chairs, taken out the cool live plants and painted the ceiling jet black. (That last part seems very odd and should have been my clue to turn around and walk out) The food is still pretty good but a couple things seem out of sync tonight. First there is a sign outside saying Happy Hour 4-7pm. Tonight we were told "No Happy Hour tonight". Instead they said we could order a special fish dinner with wine for $50 a couple. With a name like Tequilas Cantina & Grill, we come here for the Mexican food and margaritas! I only wanted a margarita with my tacos so missing out on a $3 discount wasn't the end of the world. It just disappoints me they advertise on the web and with a big sign outside and then decide not to honor it. I get it they are trying to upsell on Valentine's Night, but if I wanted a $50 meal I wouldn't bring my wife here. I'd go to a restaurant that that had cloth table coverings, matching silverware, and no big screen plasmas blasting the hockey updates from ESPN at me during our meal. I like the idea they are trying to be a Sports Cantina as well as a restaurant, but I'm sure not going to order Salmon here for $25 a person! Get a clue new owners. The other thing I noticed is the price on the menu is different from the prices shown on their web site. I was here about a month ago and was told the new owner is lowering the prices in addition to remodeling and changing the look of the place. Remodeling and lowering prices seemed like a good idea but evidently he hasn't bothered to get new menus yet. They are old, dirty and tattered. Perhaps he spent all that remodel money on the paint for that creepy black ceiling and bright yellow walls. I noticed a couple other low ratings on yelp for them recently. Evidently the owner doesn't seem to care about his neighborhood customers. Too bad. He's lost another one of us.

Another Mexican place in LA.. Its really hard for a place to do something different then the other guys.. but this place managed to do one thing right. Lets face it, Margaritas are the secret weapon. The place itself is cute, it looks like all the other guys but cleaner. It wasn't very busy when we came. The Margaritas during happy hour (4-7) were only $2.99 which is always a welcome price. I choose the frozen style and was surprised it didn't come from a machine. Our waitress went to the bar a blended me up a fresh one. This wasn't one of the tiny ones either, it was nice a big and tasted like it actually had alcohol in it. The chips and salsa were warm and and replaced when empty. The service was great, and the food actually was a step above the rest. I had the 3 item combo platter ($10.49) which was delicious. The shredded beef was fresh and the chicken enchilada was better then I had for awhile. On mondays their Margs are actually $1.99 ALL DAY!! Ok so I found a cheap Margarita joint, with better then normal food, and great service. Now do your part and check this place out so I dont loose my new drinking hole.

At first I thought this place was going to be fucking fabulous, what with the name Tequila's how can you go wrong right? WRONG. As usual the chips and salsa were good.....but seriously how can you fuck up chips and salsa? The food is the same ol' standard fare you'd get at Acapulco or El Torito, nothing spectacular or overwhelming. The prices are a little steep for what you get. The second star is for the service.....great service.

Okay so It's New Years Day and I'm craving Mexican food but my usual spot is closed and I didn't feel like going to a Steak House, so I remember this place, First off it was empty.. the bar across the street was more crowded. Secondly the service is great, very attentive. I don't know if it was that I hadn't eaten all day or if it was the final relief to my hangover but the food was decent, decent enough I actually ate the entire plate ( nothing I ever do) I had the picadillo and it was full of flavor and the usual side of rice and beans, They have a decent happy hour menu and selection of speciality drinks, even thou mines was weak in booze. I might return for the happy hour menu, since the food was on the pricey side, close to $50 for dinner for two.

This was our 1st time there and we went on (.99)Taco Tuesday just by chance. The Hostess was 'out of it' and gave away our big booth before we could decide where to sit (inside or out...no alcohol out front.) I had a difficult time communicating w/ staff as they seemed very annoyed at my daughter's 'special needs.' I just wanted a REGULAR Margarita...but he brought me a 'special' --insiting that they all have Grand Marnier?? The chips and salsa were delicious. No prices on drink menu and yes they were strong and tasty--but expensive ($13). My friend claims the tacos are good...but since they did not offer a veggie or seafood option--I could not try one. I ordered the shrimp appetizer for over $10 and it was good (but I asked to have the shrimp separate (for my child) and they stuck it in the hot portion (thus my daughter could not eat it.) We had a great time due to the atmosphere (surrounding people.) But the lighting is too dark...yellowish. So, all in all I'd go back but will absolutely expect a high bill and only one large Margarita!!

Reliable family style restaurant. They have a lunch buffet with fajitas for $7 and Margarita Mondays. The margaritas are decent they're $1.99 and they make them per order rather than the pre-made ones we are all used to in the machine. Plus they have cheap happy hour specials too. Sunday they have a champagne/brunch buffet for $10.99. The service was fast and friendly. The chips and salsa were good. The fajitas the server brought to another table smelled amazing. They also send out coupons sometimes for buy one combo get the second one for .99

I've been a patron here for over 5 years...through good, really bad and now...really good. The refresh, addition of a bar, and change of management has served this place well. The food has always been decent but the service and aura have floundered in the past...not so much anymore. I'm super happy with the "new" Tequilas and wish them continued success. I'll certainly be increasing my visits.

Went twice to Tequillas and I can say the food is okay. You get what you pay for, a lot of food but just okay. As for the service.. Dont expect too many refills or your food fast... Service is sllloooowww. Salsa is good tho but once again you wont get refills very quickly

This is really a follow-up. And it is for the service, not the food. Tequilas has been our go-to place to eat for quite a few years now and we like the new ownership and the food and service has pretty much been very good, especially Blanca. We went in today for a late lunch/early dinner and, unfortunately, she was not there. We walked in and literally had to sit ourselves. There were only a few other patrons there and the entire restaurant, except for the low volume on the TV's, was dead silence. I expected to at least hear some latin music, but nothing. So our waiter, Chay (name on the ticket) finally makes his way over to us. We have been here quite a few times and he has serviced our table in the past, but he has never been too enthusiatic about what he does. He did not seem to be in a great service mood today either. Everyone else in our party asks for water and before I could order something to drink, he walks away. Five minutes later, he brings the water and I finally order my drink. So one in my party is trying to order a margarita. As she is trying to explain something specific in her drink order, he says something like he knows and simply walks away while she is talking to him and goes over to serve another table. We thought that was incredibly rude. And to top it off: You guessed it. The drink was not what she wanted. She had to go straight to the bar to get it changed. And wouldn't you know, he is also the bartender. At that point, he pretty much gave us crappy service the rest of the time there. In fact, I pointed out that I was willing to bet that people that came in 15 minutes after us would get their food before we would. Sure enough, that's exactly what happened. And, BTW, 10.50 for a margarita? No follow-up to see if we enjoyed our food, no asking if we wanted refills. Zilch. Now, there were some other young waitresses that did arrive to work that came by to see us and were very sweet. But his service was terrible. And our tip represented it. We will not be going back here, unless we know Blanca is working. Chay, or whatever his name is, appears moody and is just inattentive. And my wife pointed out that this happens whenever he serves us. If we walk in and he is the only one working, we will turn around and leave. Just not worth it. Too many other places locally to get better service. Carlos, please talk to this person about his client service. We have frequented Tequilas for many years and would like to continue to do so.

The newly overhauled Tequilas is a big improvement. The food has always been quit nice and now there is some decent atmosphere to go with it. The Superbowl event was well presented and the staff were excellent. Reasonable price as well, I will be back soon.

Came here for a birthday dinner one night. I heard many good reviews about this place so we went to check it out! Service was a little slow, although there were not many people at all. Food was good, but not great, and the guy helping us seemed like he was in a hurry.

Went to this place for the first time Memorial weekend. I was brought a basket of complimentary chips and quacamole from a familiar face; Nacho from Casa Vega. What a nice surprise. I of course ordered a margarita on the rocks and it was delicious. The food was awesome, exactly what I want when I crave mexican and Andres serenading my sweet niece Sara with 3 songs. I will continue to go here every chance I get.

Sometimes, life is about deals. Wait, what am I saying - it's all about deals. This, among other reasons, is why I enjoy dining here. The food tastes good. They have a varied menu, and there's no problem with substitutions. They also have an all you can eat buffet for lunch (it's usually up and running, but I did go in once for lunch and it was suspiciously gone. No one likes paying dinner prices for lunch, which is what you do here). But the drink specials?! Hoo wee. $2 margs on Monday...WIN. There's beer special days as well, and they now have a rather extensive happy hour (4-7). On weekends they also have live entertainment in the place...which I haven't seen/heard, but kudos for a restaurant still doing that these days. The place isn't usually that busy - most likely you'll have your choice of booths. But leave the national chains alone and give this li'l ol place a go. If you don't like it...well...then you don't like deals.

Both locations, one on Magnolia and one on Victory have the best food. You don't go there for service, you go there for cheap yet good drinks and amazing food. My favorite are the Carnitas, which they run out of sometimes so get there early.

I like this place..it reminds me of Acapulco(which is now closed and replaced by el torito..bleh) Yes it's not authentic mexican food (duh we don't live in Mexico! ) but its tasty, not too expensive and they always have coupons on their website, clipper mag and other mailing coupons! Their happy hour is cheap they could put just a little more tequila in the margaritas, but it doesn't keep me from coming back!

We were visiting the area and yelped "margarita" which led us to Tequilas. Not really excited about the 4 big tv screens, but this seems to be the restaurant norm. We skipped the 48oz margaritas- my wife had a margarita en las rocas which was top notch, while I had a tequila flight. The guacamole with chips was like homemade. For dinner we both had the ceviche plate because we wanted something light, plus it's not something one usually sees on a menu. The fish was fresh and nicely cooked in the lime juice. Service was good and staff were particularly attentive to our six year old. We'll certainly be back.

Where to start ....The first time we went there mind you we were a group of 4, we where seated right away at a table with nothing on it. No menus, no silverware...nothing. After waiting 15 mins we finally decided to get up and ask for the menus ourselves since the waiter hadn't came to our table. Another 15 mins went by when our waiter decided to grace us with his presence. All he wanted was for our drink order. didn't want to be bothered that we were ready to order. SERVICE was horrible. He came back another 15 mins later with our drinks, mind you this is a small place and it was not a busy night. there were perhaps 5 tables being used including ours. we ordered our food and that came out in a timely manner. we had to ask for the silverware so that we could eat because at no point did our waiter care to realize we didnt have any. Food wasn't the greatest nor was it bad, my bf asked for more water and a side of sour cream but it was never brought. our waiter never came by to check on us. we finished eating and chit chatted waiting for the plates to get cleared, and do you think the waiter brought the check nope...we once again had to get up to find someone to give us the check. 2nd visit we figured maybe they were having a bad night and decided to give them another shot. Once again SERVICE was shitty! This waiter had an attitude like he didn't want to be bothered with us. again we were a table of 4. He was so HORRIBLE we wanted to speak with a manager but apparently there wasn't one on duty that night. We ate our food paid our bill and left our Server a .25 tip for his shitty service. 3rd visit......why we all thought 3rd time was a charm I have no idea!!! lol This time our waiter was a younger guy he seemed to be in a rush of some sort but at least he wasnt rude. Food at least is consistent. we havent been back since we get better food at other places.

The food here is really good and so are the margaritas! We had the shrimp fajitas and Cadillac margaritas. The place is cute and was packed with families. A good/inexpensive family friendly place.

Look out for the coupons this restaurant usually puts in the Clipper. Some very good deals out there. My whole family loves this place. My dad is partial to the Pina Coladas and Cancun burrito. I like just about everything. You can't really go wrong. Never a wait for a table. Reasonable prices. (Mostly) friendly waiters. We eat here at least once or twice a month. Overall great neighborhood spot.

Why this place only got mediocre reviews I will never know. I thought it was excellent. Its not gourmet, its not fancy its not even unusual or different. What it is, is authentic. The food is very similar to what I've had in Texas and Mexico and much like the Mexican Resteraunts all over the South Eastern United States. I have to compare it to El Conquistador, because everyone in L.A. raved about that place. El Conquistador is so far from authentic compared to Tequilas. I am just shocked that it got such average reviews. I iwll definitly be back to Tequila's, in fact, its probably going to be the place I run to now when i am craving, simple, authentic Mexican food. Good things its just down the street from my house!

  • Patrick M.

This place was ok. The chips and salsa are really good, but the food was decidedly bland. I was there with some girl that looks like a cross between a troll and the Fonz, so that didn't help the experience. And it was really empty on a Friday night. The staff was staring at us while we ate like customers at Sea World right after the Penguin Encounter reopened from a month of construction. Back the hell up and let me eat my food. Finally some other customers came in, but they looked like they were waiting for us to leave so they could buy some crank. I don't even know what crank is, but it's sounds painful and fun. The bottom line is I've had Baja Fresh better than this. Oh, and don't date girls who wear leather jackets and have teeth that aren't parallel.

I have to say, the food was good and the service was excellent. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that the prices seem a bit high. Figure the average dish is about $11, and $14 for a margarita seems more West Hollywood than Burbank. I could see it if the decor was super high end or there was a beautiful patio with a DJ but not for your standard family Mexican spot. That being said, I'll probably be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization.
