This place was great. Super friendly staff, great food, perfectly door seating. We had Mediterranean quinoa salad and chicken salad. They were great. Light weight and very yummy.

Was expecting a lot from this place, especially since it's across the street from Olive & Thyme. I got the Pastrami sandwich and my girlfriend got the Spinaci (baby spinach salad), also got a Pink Panther drink. Now, for the price, I don't think it's worth it. The serving was very small, very underwhelming. The sandwich tasted good, not great, but good. The Spinach salad was a pile of baby spinach with a sliver of almond here and there. The Pink Panther was veeery good. The environment was nice, ambiance was good as well. Just felt it was a bit overpriced for not enough.

One of the worst dining experiences that I have had in quite some time. Ordered at the counter, then sat and waited for our food. 35 min later my son and wife had their food. I waited over an hour to get mine. Manager came over and stated that there was a mixup with the order. No apology. "They are making it right now." Thanks for that. Luckily I will never be back. Oh btw, who serves chicken Parmesan without a side of spaghetti? This place.

Great little café with great customer service and tasty sandwiches as well as the salad my wife had.

This cafe is right by work, and I always avoided it, because it looked big and ugly. But today I had no other choice but to go there, since everything around was busy, and my friend wanted to try it. We both got chicken salad which included chicken, lettuce, beans and olives, for $12.50, are you kidding me? The place also looks cheap. I won't be back

These guys really care about their food. The pizza's here are fantastic. I usually order a couple pies to go and just pick them up. They even put it on parchment paper in the box so it doesn't taste like cardboard when you get home. I love the Kale pizza. They also make the pasta in-house by hand. They did a nice job remodeling the space with ample seating on their outdoor patio. I am super stoked they are in my neighborhood.

I ordered the Lasagna and Pollo Novo. It was not worth it. They say that they make there own special tomato sauce which to me was bullshit. I think they stole the recipe from the popular canned food called chef Boyardee. And the pollo nova sandwich was not good either. Waste of money with this crap.

Best italian cafe in Burbank, amazing food and great employees, Corey, and Tyler are usually the workers that serve me, most respectful and pleasent dudes.

The fettuccine Malibu was *fantastic*. I highly recommend this special when you see it on the board. Paired with the mint lemonade was very good. This was my second visit to Novo. I've yet to try their pizza. It seems to be very popular as I see many people walk in and pick up their preorders. Novo is getting their beer and wine license next month (October) so I'll be back to try some more seafood dishes along with a glass of wine.

This place is new and creative! The Calamari is amazing. Parking is hard to find but it's definitely a great place to eat. Their service is also amazing, everyone seems to be hands on when a customer is there.

Well I felt compelled to try Novo again and for some reason for me, it'sjust hit and miss. I took a business associate there for a quick salad. I think he was taken back that you had to order yourself considering the prices. We both opted for Misto salad. We both left hungry. Honest to god, 1 cherry tomato cut in half, 2 slivers of cucumber and 2 small pieces of walnut. I'm not kidding. The dressing was good, but overall the salad was tasteless...NO INGREDIENTS. At least give a slice of bread or crackers. Oh how I miss Salerno's. Anyway, the server was nice, and it's great place to do a little business, not too loud. Stopped once for coffee which was good but they had no muffins or anything to go with it! I ended up with a package granola bar. I'm not going back. A $30 tab (including tip) not good if you leave hungry. Just my experience.

My wife and I just went there traveling from San Antonio to Yountville. Staying across the street at the Tangerine. Very friendly staff. Pizza was good (used the Yelp check in to get 50% off the pizza), insalata mista very good, and the wife's arugula salad with salmon was excellent also. Some fellow Yelpers had issues with ordering and paying first at the counter, then sitting down. This is the way its often done in Italy, and was not confusing to us. I can really recommend this place.

Went for lunch with hubby when we were in town to see the Ellen show. Very friendly counter service trying to decide what to get. I tried the salad with goat cheese and the pesto with fettucini. The half salad portion was huge and very tasty. The pesto was excellent. I've been to Italy 4 times and I felt like I was in a cafe in Italy when I ate this! SO yummy. Friendly staff and a very generous glass of wine never hurts:) Wish we lived in town so we could return!

Just picked up a Classica Pizza and came to work, this place keeps on getting better. This pizza is awesome, I have yet to eat something from this place and not to like.

This lovely little place is a small piece of italy for all of us. I live about a mile from here and have been already 4 times for dinner and brunch. The food is all freshly made and so tasty! Prices are very reasonable and the outdoor seating is a wonderful way to enjoy the nice weather and food at the same time. The owner is very friendly and actually served us one time when we came almost 45 minutes after closing. Go check it out and you won't regret it one bit!

This place is fantastic! I'm a vegan and when I first walked in I thought my options might be limited but then I saw the sign that said "ask us about our vegan options." I ordered a vegan margherita pizza and it was soooooo good! Apparently you can order many of their menu items vegan style. The bruschetta was also very good. The staff is very, very nice! This is my new favorite place in Burbank and I'll definitely be back!

Delicious! If it had been a little more crowded i would have felt like i was in a little restaurant in italy. I had the butternut squash ravioli....stunning. Caprese was lovely....and the owner is an italian fellow who has the most wonderful accent...and isn't that hard on the eyes :) Loved it!

Suffice to say Burbank is lacking when it comes to good food. Here it is. Pasta is made on-site and pizza is pretty amazing. Only bummer...no adult beverages, still well worth the trip. Go!

  • Cindy V.

This place sucks. Worst service. Ask for appetizer plate never came.Hard and stale bread. Make your own. Pasta and sauce add on meat come out to $20 a plate not worth it.

Stopped in before my therapist appointment. Therapist ran $60/hr, arribiata & fettuccine ran about $9... the latter was much more soul-cleansing LOL =) Definitely going back!

Love this place. Everything tastes fresh and healthy. The service is awesome. Talk to the owner Mosimo. He's a super nice guy. I work around the corner so I try and stop in once a week.

  • A F.

This place is fantastic. Not only are their ingredients fresh and pasta homemade, the food tastes authentic...which shouldn't be hard considering the owner's Italian. I've had the Butter Sage, among other dishes, and absolutely recommend it to anyone. I haven't tried their breakfast, but that's next on the list! Massimo and his staff are all very friendly and treat you like their own family from the second you walk through the door. He'll remember you, tell you about the food, and maybe even teach you some Italian! The environment is great. Especially with the large patio outside. I can't wait to eat out there in the summer! I can only hope they consider getting some authentic Italian musicians to perform out there at some point...I think it will really draw people in. All this and it's AFFORDABLE! ...Unlike most other places in Burbank. Keep it up, Novo Café!

  • Julie F.

Hands down, the BEST Italian food I've eaten outside of Italy. The owners are lovely, the food is delicious and the space is charming! My only wishes are that they could offer wine with my meal and that they were open later in the day. But perhaps with such amazing food, their limited hours are doing my waistline a favor. I cannot wait to go back! Let Massimo help you order-- but know that pretty much any choice you make will be a good one.

  • Tara F.

3.5 stars. Good for a quick lunch while in the neighborhood; service is quick, pleasant outdoor patio. The homemade pasta has a nice texture, the funghi is rich, the beef ragu a little salty though bland. Nothing to write home about---I will continue my quest for a good pre-Costco lunch spot.

This is a great little spot! The owner, Massimo, is super nice. His vision was to create homemade, upscale Italian fare in a casual, laid back environment. He's achieved that with reasonable prices too. My favorite thing on the menu is their tomato bisque soup. It's extreme fresh with just the perfect amount of cream to make it luscious, but not oily. They drizzle it with extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil and it's just amazing. Not on the menu, so you have to ask, but they always have it. Their pizzas are fantastic. I like the Triffolata (?). My favorite pasta is parpadelle with the funghi sauce. I've pretty much tried most of the menu and the only thing I haven't enjoyed is the lasagna. I know others who have and like it though, so just not my cup of tea. Also need to mention that they surprisingly have amazing breakfast burritos! I like the veggie one so much I like crave it constantly!! Yum!!

Well, they have a captive audience with me as it's the closest food spot to my office. They have a great patio, and I've always been able to find a seat there. They offer Italian fare, sticking to pasta, panini and pizza. The pizzas are very tasty individual portions and consistently good, which is nice as good pizza is hard to come by in the area. They are delicate to the touch, but packed with flavor. The panini are fairly straight forward, very good and fresh ingredients and served with a side of greens. The most notable dishes are the pasta. They offer a selection of house-made pasta that you can match with the preparation you desire, and it's real pasta, also something very rare in L.A. Some of the other pasta are the regular dried type. The food is their strength, while the service is lacking. You're given a number when you order, and nobody follows up with you once you're food is dropped off. The large patio and authentic Italian food give this place a bit of a European flair that makes for a relaxing lunch.

What happened to you, Novo Cafe? I've been coming here since it opened, though I hadn't been for a month or so. I absolutely adore(d) the butter sage pasta, but what I received was a joke in comparison. The beautiful fresh, tender pasta paired with a slightly brown butter sauce and crispy sage leaves was replaced with rubbery, severely oversalted pasta, drowning sage leaves and some very out-of-place grape tomatoes. Add to the fact that they hiked the price, didn't provide any bread and the already spotty service became worse, I'm out. I would have given 3 stars based on my past experience, but this was a joke. In fact, were I not so freaking hungry I'd have taken it back.

  • Chris H.

Chef George is as warm and comforting as his daily fresh made pasta. Nowhere outside of Parma, Italy have I had better, and it is right around the corner! My wife and I had the pleasure of making pasta and ragu in a sweet lady's house just outside of Cortona, Italy last year. This pasta brought us back to Italy. Some other reviews have noted that service was slow. I was in at the lunch rush today and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was served. It is still their soft open so hiccups like those should be expected and forgiven, especially when you taste the quality and love that goes into each bite.

It was about 11:30am on a Monday and they weren't very busy at all. I ordered a veggie omelet and my brother had a scramble with veggies. After about 20 minutes or so for 2 egg dishes, his came out cold and mine was semi warm. The people were nice but the food was not great. Their watermelon beverage was good though so maybe I'd stop in to pick up one of those.

The best freshest homemade Italian food, and the owner Massimo makes sure you have an amazing experience.

  • Jordan H.

I have had several things here! The pizza rugola was AMAZING!!!! The best part of course being that it only had goat cheese and no cow's milk cheese! Then I had the orechetti with the light tomato sauce. Phenom! I thought I'd be disapointed because it sounded kind of boring. But it was full of flavor. Then I had the Pollo Novo panini :-( just like other yelpers said - it was strangely like a chicken noodle soup on bread. and mine had cucumber in it? which i do not believe it said on the menu on the wall... but either way... yuck. try anything else - LITERALY ANYTHING!

Went here for a casual business lunch. Vegan pizza would be better without the soy cheese. Fabulous crispy crust. Lemonade Willy drink was really refreshing and tasty.

A few weeks ago, my moms' group had a terrible experience at a café down the street. I posted a bad review for them and mentioned that we were looking for a new regular breakfast/lunch place. Well, I think we may have found our lunch place (still need to try breakfast)! All of our group were uniformly happy with our dishes: diavola pizza, shrimp spinach salad, pollo novo panini...The staff were professional and pleasant and the lunchtime ambiance was fun and friendly. We were supposed to go to another place across the street which was closed for a private event, so it turned into a happy accident for us. I would have given five stars but my order (out of six) was delayed and I had to flag down a server to get it - they did take care of it quickly. Also, I would have liked to see a bigger choice of pastries for when we go in for breakfast....muffins and croissants are great but what about macarons and shortbread? Still, very happy with our pleasant experience here. We'll be spreading the word to our 600+ parents at the nearby campus of our kids' international school!

We tried this resto without knowing it was a new one :) an we were the second customer to order and that was cool. The owner sat down and explain to us the menu. The owner was very hospitable, he gave as one free order and let us taste some of the dessert! It's an Italian cuisine with a price thats within your budget. The ambiance was good and the staff were awesome. The first thing we felt when we ate here was it feels like your just dining in your kitchen at home. Its relaxing and doesnt really felt like eating on a resto. Its a good start for them and hoping for the success of the company. Two thumbs up for the hospitality they showed and for the owner!

New Italian Cafe in Burbank ! It's the best Italian cafe. It's called Novo Cafe'. The address is 3900 W Riverside Dr. There are two professional chefs, Torino and Gerlado. My opinion is that it is a 5 star Cafe. It's open from 7:00 A.M. To 7:00 P.M. Monday through Saturday. On Saturdays they are open from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. There are great meals and great desserts. Their service is really good! They also serve coffee, espresso, tea, fresh pasta, pizza and more. I was at the grand opening with my family today and had the chance to interview one of Novo Cafe's owners. They are friendly and available to all the customers. Hope you get a chance to visit this new cafe and enjoy the food and atmosphere.

My BF found this place on Yelp and we met his mom there for dinner on Wednesday. I am a very picky about Italian restaurants. Before I tried Novo I basically only really liked one other Italian restaurant ever so I wasn't expecting much (blame it on my Italian ex's grandma's cooking). When I found out their pasta was housemade I was pleasantly surprised. My Orchiette w/ butter sage sauce had perfect texture, perfect mouth feel, light, and the sauce was so so so tasty. Then there was the cannoli! OMG! Not those soggy cannoli you usually find at so called Italian restaurants. A crisp cannoli with the lightest cream filling ever. Yum!! The owners were beautiful, friendly people too. I would go back just because of them. The great food was just icing on the cake. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I have, so far, only tried one dish. There may be an upgrade in the future :)

Novo is about the closest thing my coworkers and I can walk to besides the cafeteria, so we decided to give it a try. I spent about $15 on a salad (organic spinach + free range chicken) so it is a little on the higher side for lunch, but the atmosphere was very nice. They have a huge outdoor patio with tons of seating. The food was slow coming out for two of the people in our group (the rest of us were already done eating by the time it came), and the owner came over and apologized and gave us two free desserts! Novo gets a thumbs up from me.

This is a place for pasta or something heavy. Do not even think of going here if you're trying to be healthy. I ordered a salad with salmon (TINY) and left hungry. Mixed greens with a few cherry tomatoes is not a salad. This place could be more reasonably priced. I also got my food 10 minutes after everyone else at the table....And we were the only ones there! Such a bummer. I really wanted to love this place.

    (3)
  • Alicia D.

I love the place! This is an authentic Italian restaurant and the concept is amazing; choose your pasta, meat and sauce. I was serve by Corey and he was attentive. The price are a little high but hey you get what you pay for, and this was delicious. I recommend the place specially when they get their liquor license. The are also working on their AC problem.

True Italian food made by a true Italian chef. Everything is fresh and of superior quality- it tastes so authentic and all home made. I think this place is amazing, food hasn't tasted this good since my trip to Italy.

Who doesn't love freshly made pasta!? Love the menu offerings...Gnocchi is an Italian favorite of mine so when I saw it on the menu, no need to look any further. Service is TOO SLOW especially for diners that come in for lunch, on average folks get an hour...so half of your lunch hour will be waiting. Our final entree of our order came out in just over 30 minutes and we were the first group to order before the lunchtime rush. Knowing they're just opening I expected acknowledgement and possibly even a courtesy to lessen the impact of the wait...nothing. Major disappointment. Oddly, the entrees we ordered were meatless (no need to cook to any doneness), except one...and it took the least amount of time. Diners that came in up to three parties after us got their meals first including a full pizza. I am hopeful that some thought is placed on the ordering line and the beverage station which easily congested and made it difficult for the runner to bring meals to the tables. Nice updates to decor from old restaurant. Great update to the outside patio dining area too. Hoping that my next rating goes up (and not down).

Delicious, authentic, reasonably priced Italian food. These guys are from Italy and take food seriously. The tiramisu was amazing two days later cold right out of the fridge. The chicken panini, pizza with pesto, arugula salad with lemony dressing were all tasty (with ample portions). I can't wait to come back and try more things. The owners and staff were all extremely nice and helpful.

Incredible modern spot with a true Italian appeal, and authentic Italian/Scicilian fare. The staff and owner are very friendly, genuine and wonderful. Ate here two days in a row-their pasta is incredible, and their breakfasts are equally yummy!

Just tried this place, thanks to Yelp! The food is great. Homemade pasta with your choice of sauces. Burrata Pizza sooo good. I have been looking for a place around this area with good Italian food for years. Finally! If you have a sweet tooth try the Cronut ( their version) it is a must. We will be back.

What a pleasant surprise! We decided on a whim last night to go out to dinner. Since this place was close by we decided to give it a try. Very glad we did! It wasn't too long before they were closing, but they were very friendly and happy to serve us. I ordered the beef ragu with spaghetti and my husband ordered the checca with fettuccine and a spinaci salad. The pasta was fresh and delicious! The sauces were both flavorful. Our daughter loved both but preferred the beef ragu. I saw the family dining near us had the funghi pasta which looked very tasty. I think when I come back that is what I will try. What I really enjoyed was the friendly atmosphere and how nice the servers were. When we walked in we were greeted and were asked if we would be needing a high chair. They were kind and brought it over to our table. Great food and great service, we will definitely be coming back!

Randomly popped in Novo Cafe and had the most amazing meal! Mossimo and his staff were so gracious, talked over the entire menu with us and had us try his incredible mint lemonade (tastes like a mojito without the rum), everything on the menu sounded amazing. From where we ordered we could see the Chef making pasta from scratch. Very cute front patio. I got a panini with procuitto and the fresh grilled shrimp salad. Must go!!

I don't even have words for how bad the restarant was. My family had 4 different pasta dishes and one was worse than the other. Save yourself some money and open up your jar of sauce at home it will taste better.

What a nice surprise!! We were visiting from out of town and we liked this place so much we ate there twice today! There is a lovely, large outdoor patio, really tasty and very FRESH food, beautifully plated and served. The bruschetta and lasagne are especially amazing but everything else we ate was VERY tasty. Almost feels like you've gone to Italy without the expense of travel. And the prices are so fair!! Do yourself a favor and try this place!!!

This is a great spot! The coffee drinks are delicious in the morning, and the homemade pasta is a to-die-for dinner. The beautiful outdoor patio is the best part. Not to be missed. I'm so happy to have it in Burbank!

REALLY YUMMY, nice place. However, I feel like they use WAY too much oil in their food . That's my one and only complaint. Please use less oil! The young gentlemen server I had today was fantastic he seemed very genuine and took care of me ,great customer service

This place is awesome! Food was perfection! Service was perfection! Ambiance was perfection! I came here for dinner and had the pollo panini and it was so tasty! After we ordered our desert the owner (Massimo) introduced himself to us just to make sure we enjoyed our food and if there was anything he could get us. He was very passionate and sweet! Thank you Nova Cafe and Massimo for the wonderful experience!

Relaxing and casual atmosphere. Pay when ordering your food, and then take the # stick to your table, it's a cafe - not a trattoria or ristorante. The cafe has ample seating inside, and on the patio. Separating the sidewalk and the patio are planters of succulents. Size of the plate is proportionate to the price, a fair value. Staffs are attentive. Noodles lover, it's a must stop for the house-made pasta, with copious sauce options. Of course, there are insalate too...and yes, beers and wines are on the menu. Buon appetito

Great homemade and quality food with the perfect ambiance on the patio. They have live music if you come on the right night. The food is on the pricey side but worth the money. Staff is friendly but service can be slow. 5 stars- Mint lemonade....so flavorful and refreshing. 5 stars- Tiramisu...homemade and you can taste the soaking rum. Soooo yummy! 5 stars- Butternut squash ravioli with butter sage sauce. It was melting in my mouth. You can taste the homemade flavor, love everything about it. So much flavor and best sage sauce I've ever had.

Came here for breakfast and was bummed at their run-of-the-mill menu. I ordered pancakes and they were satisfactory, but not amazing. Employees looked like they hated working there. It has to be better for lunch or dinner, right?

The food here is really amazing. You can taste each ingredient in every plate you choose. I got the veggie panini, and I fell in love. To drink the strawberry breeze and mint lemonade sounded great but did not get to taste it because I chose the Pink Panther. Yes. Yes. Yes. It was sooooooooooooooooooo delicious. I was sad that they don't get refills on that. They have complimentary water with lemon and cucumber which makes up for no refills. The service was great. All the staff was polite, patient, helping and just great! Shout out.

Came in to town to see the Ellen Show and got here early so walked down to this cafe. It has a great patio and plenty of seating inside. The breakfast menu is short but the food options were enough. The sandwiches were delicious. They portions were large and affordable. Definitely stop in if you're in the area.

We were here for my son 2 year olds birthday. We came a bit late and by the time we start to cut the cake it already passed their closing time. They never rush us out to cleaning. This is very rare to most restaurants. Also, the foods were great. Malibu is the one we like most along with their Pizza. I highly recommend them and definitely come back.

Very nice Italian restaurant with a good selection of pizza and pastas. Very reasonable prices. My family and I tried three pizzas and one pasta. Really tasty and not dripping of fat as some pizzas tend to be. This is like real Italian pizza. Thin and crispy. Tables are available both inside and outside. Only hiccup was timing of the service. My wife got her pasta 5 minutes before the rest of us got our pizza.

Good food, decent portions, casual and convenient, but on a the pricey side. It's pretty much self-serve cafeteria style: pay at the register, take your # and (try) to find a seat. Here's how it works: You choose a pasta (orechiette, papardelle, fettuccine, gnochhi +$1.50), choose a sauce (everything from beef ragu to arrabiata), and decide whether you want a protein or not (chicken, tuna, shrimp). I selected orechiette (my favorite) in funghi sauce with chicken for $14.50. The verdict? Orechiette was NOT al dente - could've used another minute in the pot. Funghi sauce was good, if a little salty. Chicken was layered on after the pasta was cooked - I wish it had been mixed in with the sauce. I added a Novo Mint Lemonade to my order for an extra $4.95...while refreshing and not too sweet, it's WAY too expensive for a lemonade. With tax, lunch cost $21.20 Seriously? I could've had an AMAZING meal at Market Caffe or even at a sushi joint for that much money. Other complaints? Wait time for ordering and for food was also a bit long. Parking can be tough along Riverside, but we managed to find a spot on Kenwood.

My wife and I had a great experience here. Novo is a casual Italian cafe with an impressive menu of hand crafted pastas, salads, sandwiches, pizzas etc. The outdoor seating is nice and covered and the service is friendly. We started things off with the Spinaci salad: baby spinach, red radicchio, sliced almonds and crumbled goat cheese tossed with a raspberry vinaigrette. It was light and tasty - the perfect starter to enjoy while waiting for the main course. I ordered one of the pasta specials on the cashier's recommendation called Toscana: green tagliatelle with mildly spicy sausage ragu, white wine, and chicken. Amazing. Easily the single best pasta dish I have had in a very long time. The sausage provided the perfect amount of spice and the texture of the green tagliatelle left upon me the realization that this is the way all pastas should taste. My wife ordered the four cheese ravioli with beef ragu which was also incredible. Afterwards, my wife and I both agreed we had not tasted pasta this good since we were in Florence. My only regret is that I could not try more of their menu on this trip. Looking forward to coming back soon and fixing that.

I have been coming here as a loyal customer since they opened. Today I made a to go order for lunch, 15 min before the rush. Well they just put my order to the side served 14 customers and 45 min layer I still do not have my order. Basically only order in Bc to go orders are treated like red headed step children.

Me and my boyfriend came here for a light dinner last night but were sadly disappointed. I had suggested we come here since I'd been here before and thought the food was okay, however I was pretty sick with a cold the only other time I'd ate here, so I couldn't taste anything all that much. We ordered a Turkey panini and Burrata Pizza. The panini came with tomatoes, mustard, mayo, and provolone; we'd requested to have it made without any of these since we both don't like tomatoes, mustard, or mayo. There wasn't any miscommunication on our part or the girl who took our order, so we we were surprised when our food came out and none of the subtractions had been made. The waiter apologized when we asked to have it remade and seemed sincerely sorry. However, this wasn't the only issue with our meal. I took one bite out of the pizza and really didn't enjoy it. It did not taste fresh at all, probably because it was kind of cold and the cheese had this weird milky liquid dripping from it. I know Burrata is typically in water, but since the pizza seemed like it wasn't very cooked, it caused it to be very soggy and unappetizing. I asked the waiter again to just have it reheated and he was kind enough to do it and apologized again. He also offered us a complimentary cannoli, but neither I nor my boyfriend wanted something to compensate for our lackluster meal. He did also briefly mention that the kitchen was a bit chaotic at the moment, but the place wasn't very packed with customers so that was pretty confusing. Reheating the pizza made it somewhat more edible, but ultimately neither one of us left this place satisfied with our meal. The cannoli was okay, I've never had one before but it seemed kind of stale and hard, not flavorful or crunchy either, just a really hard shell and some cream inside it. I'm only giving this place two stars because the waiter genuinely did seem sorry even though it wasn't really his fault, and the place itself looks really cute and nicely decorated.

I'm from Italy and this place is a half and half italian-American cafe. Lovely dishes with pay up front service. Gotta try their pastas, especially the gnocchi and the tagliatelle. Massimo, the manager, is very friendly. Service is very quick too. Ideal for breakfast and lunch.

First off I want to say the staff was very friendly. Second the food was so good. Very fresh and flavorful. My husband and I got 2 different pizzas. You can taste the quality of the fresh herbs and vegetables. I highly recommend this spot.

Great tasting menu, hand made pasta to order, pleasant staff who know how to handle really picky entertainment industry types who complain about whatever.

6 stars! Fresh, Authentic Italian, friendly, personal service by the actual owner, Massimo, who is passionate about his food and clearly knows great customer service. Not overly packed, but a nice Thursday night balance of people inside and out. We sat on the patio, where this great open mic night was taking place. I'm particular about good Italian food, as I love to cook. I used to have a chef as a roommate and we would make a lasagna in which we made the beef stock from roasting vegetables and beef bones, used that stock to make the sauce from scratch as well, then made our own pasta fresh from eggs and flour with a pasta roller. It took 2 days to make, and cost about $80 in ingredients, but that was what real lasagna should taste like. Novo takes this kind of care in preparing their food, which is usually reserved for ultra expensive, 5 star restaurants. Their pasta is hand rolled, which if you've never had freshly rolled pasta it's nothing even similar to dried pasta, the texture is exquisite. There is so much depth of flavor in the sauce, they definitely take their time doing it right. You have the choice to mix and match your sauce and noodle choices, but I ordered off of the specials menu which are pre set. Mine had zucchini, mushrooms, pancetta, and flavorful handmade green spaghetti in just the right amount of pink sauce. Incredible! Bf was craving Carbonara; Massimo was taking our order and said they could make it even though it wasn't on the menu, and it was 100% the best we ever had. We enjoyed our dinner so much we made a rare dessert order, and tried their made-to-order version of the Cronut, and were blown away. Warm, perfectly balanced sweetness, chocolate gelato center, perfect. All in all, 5 star food, 5 star passion, 5 star service, but 50% of 5 star cost, with a relaxing, order at the counter, enjoy the patio and live music, no need for white tablecloths vibe. Our new favorite!

This review should be 4 stars. I ordered the squid ink marinaded pasta with seafood. It tasted amazing, really very good. I didn't like the service. I expect table waiting if the bill for 3 will be $70. It just confused us, ordering and paying in advance, we had no idea how much to tip or what service we should expect. And here's why I gave only 2 stars. I threw the whole meal up at 1am. After it was out of my system I was fine so I don't believe it was food poisoning. I can only think that something in the meal itself was just too much for my stomach. One of my fellow diners also complained of stomach problems late into the night. I don't know what it was but it ruined my night.

Been there a few times now and i should say the food is very fresh and yummy!!! Tried the pollo novo sandwich, chopped salad and also the alla salsiccia pizza. Loved them all!! The service is great as well. The owner is real nice and you could tell he has passion for food. Overall a great place and can't wait to go back!

This is pasta. I know we've all grown up with our own experiences and expectations of pasta here in the states--but Novo Cafe is so dead on to the great little, casual street cafes in central Italy. It is like it was ripped from time and space and brought to the valley. If your looking for the PAST al dente, more Americanized pasta experiences (which I myself love for very different reasons and am not criticizing) look else where. If your looking for a more true to it's homeland experience--look no further. ... ... ... Wait sorry -- If you want to keep reading, I have more to say because I just love this place. The outdoor patio is unassuming and simple but great for long after dinner conversations with friends. You never feel pushed out even after you've eaten. This place is great even to drop in for dessert and espresso after a meal out else where (but why wouldn't you just eat here--honestly!) I love that you don't just pick out a pasta dish here. You pick a pasta and a sauce and you get to try any combination you'd like. OH MY GOODNESS the lasagna. Seriously!

Some of the best pasta I've had - you can absolutely taste that they really do create the pasta fresh. It was a little of a surreal experience to have that casual feel in the restaurant but have smiling, knowledgeable cashiers who recommend Pinot Grigio wine to go with your saffron seafood fettucine pasta. You take a number and sit down and never feel pressured while enjoying your food. Lovely place, definitely want to come back to try the other pastas.

Stumbled across Novo Cafe and was absolutely amazed! I was greeted with a friendly face letting me know what the specials were and offering me a menu since I clearly looked lost. Ordered a cappuccino blueberry muffin, and pesto pizza to go. They brought me my muffin and coffee while I waited for my pizza to be made fresh. Capp was so good...I'll be going there all the time for my capps now! Muffin was soft and tasty....when I got home I tried the pizza and sooooo good. It was light and fresh and delicious. Overall great find and experience. I can't wait to take my husband and enjoy the great outdoor eating area with a cocktail or glass of wine!

You know this place is said to be the new trend, its not. I had the pesto fettucine penne whatever its called. It looked nice but it tasted like Alfredo sauce on pasta. I also came another time to try the margherita pizza and it is nothing special, I can get the same thing at any take out pizza chain. The service is OK but I'm never coming back here. This place is on my bottom 3 places I've been to. Trust me don't come here. YOU'LL REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!

Came here on a Saturday afternoon.it was busy and there is no parking for this corner eatery.you have to go in and place your order then find a seat.this was hard to do as my guest was on a cane.I ordered appetizers of brushetta and caprise salad.then entrees of pumpkin ravioli. a spicey mostaccioli and my basic margarita pizza...then our drinks...the appetizers came..the brushetta was toasted bread with sliced basil seasoned tomatos..no olive oil..it was dry and thrown together..I was beside myself..not authenic.. then the drinks and within 5 minutes our entrees came.I found myself asking to warm the food back up due to wanting to eat our appetizers first.I was not happy with the hasty service we did get with little communication.Heres the topper they cleared our plates that still had food on them without asking if we were finished or wanted to go boxes.I had to stop them..really..bad ettiquette.picked 3 desserts. The cannoli was the best . tiramisu was blaise no flavor and the pistachio ice quickly became mush before enjoying it.We were also told if we wanted drink refills we had to go back up to the register..rude!! Spent over 65.00 which is definately pricey when its just an ok cafe ..nothing fancy..with crappy service/no service/ no parking and cold -blaise food..what a ripoff..Won't be back and won't be referring anyone here neither..disappointed..you get one star because I have to give it one not because it is deserved..

I've only had coffee here so I admit this review will not be very helpful to anyone looking to eat here. But I can tell you it's a great place to meet for a coffee. They have a great outdoor patio with plenty of space so you're not cramped between two groups of people talking about how to drinking warm water is better than cold water and the other talking about his or her horrible script idea.

Novo is excellent. Great food at a decent price, especially if you go after 3PM when they are giving their 50% off discount (as of the time of this review, anyway...). Everyone who works there is very nice and I've never tried anything I didn't enjoy. The atmosphere is pleasant, plenty of seating outdoors and indoors. On top of that, most everything tastes authentically Italian and there are many healthy options here. I'd recommend it to anyone.

An "A" for the people and the atmosphere. C- for their fettuccine alfredo with chicken, mixed green salad, bread. Hoping they up the cuisine quality because the space is really nice.

Cute place and sweet ambience. I love the build your own pasta menu. My friend and I got the Cronut and the Tiramisu for dessert, and it was amaaaazing. Not too sweet and very tasty, which is how I like my dessert. It was perfect. Other than the $4 add on for 4 pieces of shrimp (really, a $1 for shrimp, guys?), the prices are not bad and reasonable. Oh and the iced teas were delish! Cant wait to try other things on the menu.

This place is really solid. The pizza, pasta, and paninis are all first rate. It's very convenient to my work across the street and they have a great outdoor patio space for a nice lunch break. The staff is very nice and the owner is an Italian native. One con: it's really, really pricey for lunch.

Had the most delicious breakfast here!!! Everything was fresh fresh fresh and perfectly cooked. I had the spinach and mushroom scramble - it's made with 3 eggs and served with the most yummy potatoes - again so fresh. Coffee was also very fresh and not over roasted. We sat outside on the patio which was lovely and very clean. Tables are nicely spaced so you're able to enjoy your meal and your companion - wow what a concept - personal space - I love it!!! This is a really nice but casual cafe. You order at the counter and pay then your served at your table. Service was very friendly and helpful. I'm a fan and can't wait to come back!!!

This puts to rest the argument that there's no good Italian in Los Angeles. Fresh pasta made in house, delicious sauces, salads and pizzas, consumer friendly prices, fantastic staff, beautiful outdoor seating and Peroni to boot?! Whenever you find yourself hankering for some Italian, make the trip to Novo. You will NOT be disappointed.

We had a great time here on a Thursday night when they have open mic night. There were some really great singers there which made the evening dinner more entertaining. I ordered the gnocchi with pesto sauce and my wife had a salad and fried calamari. The sauce they served with the calamari was delicious. I also enjoyed their pesto sauce. It was very rich and creamy. The tiramisu is very delicious also. Great patio seating. A comfortable vibe and decent service. Oh, and the mocha was one of the best mocha's I have had in a while. So I definitely recommend the coffees.

Warm wonderful service and GREAT food -- had their homemade pesto sauce with pasta (also homemade.. thin spaghetti) -- soooo delicious!! Calamari is addictive.. and the red sauce is spicy/garlic wonderful ALSO - the best dessert I think I have ever tasted.. something called sicilian casatella (I think that's what it was called) We also had the tiramisu... perfection! HIGH END food for cafe prices... My husband and I will be back for sure!!! and bringing friends!! My husband grew up on Italian food.. HE was impressed -- that just confirms how good it is!!!

Conflicted about three vs four stars and I kinda want to bump it up based on the friendliness of the owner and staff and the general vibe of the place, but I'm gonna stick with the A-OK rating because that describes it perfectly. We dined on the patio on a very gentle spring evening mid-week before attending a show at the Falcon Theatre. Ordering is done at the counter. They have printed menus but also a lot of specials on a chalkboard that you don't see at first if you walk in off the Riverside Drive entrance. My husband opted for the ravioli with brown butter sage (a menu item) and I ordered a special: spinach linguine with a pink vodka sauce, prosciutto, zucchini and mushrooms. The fresh-mint enhanced lemonade was perfect -- not too sweet and really fresh-tasting. Hubby's watermelon-syrup flavored Italian soda was a bit too sweet, especially since all the syrup sinks down to the bottom of the plastic cup. We were given a number and took seats on the patio and a server brought us some panini breadsticks and olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We both thought the breadsticks were sort of tasteless and hard. But our meal came very quickly and I tucked into my linguine only to find it was bland and the prosciutto was in small chunks (I am used to it being served in very thin slices) which I just didn't enjoy. My husband was surprised when he cut into his ravioli to find a very creamy center as opposed to the thicker ricotta filling we are used to. But I like creamy cheesy stuff so we agreed to switch plates. The brown-butter sage is crisped up in a very interesting way and made a nice contrast to the creamy centers of the green ravioli. He thought the linguine was fine and it was also a much larger portion of food -- enough that we took some home. With room in our stomachs and time before the show, we decided to give their Cronut a shot. The owner, Massimo, experiments with them and he told us they had the traditional (for them) version, with a pastry cream filling, and a new one he was trying with a more traditional donut (with a hole in the center) where the hole was filled with whipped cream. We're not whipped cream fans so we opted for the original. It was quite large and more square than round, topped with powdered sugar and chocolate drizzled everywhere. We were also given a steak knife and two forks for sharing. The steak knife was not up to the task, however, of neatly cutting the very hard outer crust of the pastry so we tore it apart with the forks. The creamy filling was quite rich and the dough was not very sweet so together it worked out to a tasty dessert. We've only had a similar thing once before (a dosant from Spudnuts) and in comparison I would say Novo's Cronut was much harder on the outside and not as contrastingly donught-like on the inside. It was still good, but harder to eat! If we lived or worked in the area I might try the pizza or panini (which are more reasonably priced IMHO. Also note that it's a little hard to see the restaurant when approaching from Pass Avenue because it is dwarfed by the huge Best Western hotel. Just look for the red square sign just past the hotel. We walked from the Falcon so I'm not sure what parking is like.

I was brought to the brink of tears when my fav Italian restaurant in the whole world shut down- it was literally across the street from this place - Prizzi's. I jumped at the chance to check Novo out - this place touts itself as all fresh this, organic that, hand made pasta blah blah. I had high hopes. I had the ear shaped pasta with funghi white sauce. The pasta was so undercooked I thought my tooth or the dish itself would chip, and the sauce was a watered down joke. Their fruit juice and iced teas are very good, but I can get that at Coffee Bean. It was just disappointing. I can hardly cook myself but even I can turn out a decent pasta dish. This was just ehh, and it was like $35 for 2 of us. It was worth $8 at most, it reminded me of those cheap pasta dishes on the menu of local pizza joints that flag your front door with delivery offers. They just dressed it up in a trendy looking cafe spot. Its a total scam.

Friendly staff. Food was just average. Not great. I had pasta aioli and it was overcooked and very salty. Prices are a little high for a counter service style restaurant. I would probably give them another try based on two things only: 1. The staff was so nice and friendly. 2. The other positive reviews on this site. So I would give it another try. But only if I happen to be the area. I would not go out of my way for this place.

Been here a few times already, so thought I'd write up a high-yield review for people on a time budget... Food: fresh homemade & authentic Italian food that honestly rivals fine dining quality Atmosphere: beautiful outdoor patio surrounded by plants with tons of seating. it's really relaxing, and great for people like me who love dining al fresco (There are of course tables inside as well.) Beverages: great quality espresso & mint lemonade (my favorite!) Take-out: Calling in the order for later pick up seems to be the best for when I'm on the go. My fav items: gnocchi with arrabbiata, the butter sage sauce (on anything really), the pizza Classica & Calabrese (Haven't tried the paninis yet, will update when I do.) Things to know: You get to choose from 1 of 7 sauces! and 1 of 5 types of pasta...All seem so freshly made. I've tried a bunch of different combos because I've been here with several people and we usually eat "family style." They all were great, it really just depends on preference and what you're in the mood for. My personal reason I go back and why I love eating here is that I don't feel gross like I normally do after eating Italian food, probably because everything is so fresh. So glad to have found healthy and fresh options for lunch, especially those days I'm really craving Italian food.

Skip this place! Went there last week after work with a friend. Food was pretty good but side order of veggies was very small (maybe a cup) for broccoli and it was $4.50! The worst part of the experience is that the service was terrible. It took almost 40 minutes for our order to arrive. Then my friend's order came first and after another 10 minutes I literally had to go inside to ask about my meal because there was no explanation from the waiter and no waiter to be found. Then when I went in to ask the owner who was standing there, he acted like I was doing something wrong. The owner brought out my food about another 10 minutes later (after my friend had already half finished her meal) with absolutely no explanation. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge the delay. He awkwardly asked if he could take an unused bread plate (as if that would improve things). No one asked how our food was. I went there a few months ago on my own and the experience was similar in terms of long waiting and rude owner. It's a shame because the food tastes pretty good, although it's overpriced.

This is the kind of place that, after you order, you sit and see other dishes go past and you start to wish you ordered something else because everything looks delicious. However, when your dish arrives, there's no sense of regret. I've been here for lunch a couple of times now and everyone in my group has been more than pleased with their food. Personally, I've only had the Trifolati pizza so far but it might be my favorite pie in LA now. The only change I would make would be to reslice the pizza after the prosciutto is put on top; right now, there's a little cutting of your own required. Quality, medium priced Italian joints are very hard to find in Los Angeles and Novo is amongst the best.

Novo Cafe is a great place! I totally recommend it to anybody who loves Italian food and good coffee. The service is great and people are super nice, and the food is amazing! The venue is beautiful and the outside area is really nice, with a beautiful garden surrounding it and a nice breeze. I also come here to use the internet or read a book since the space is really nice (lots of tables to sit indoors) and the Italian music is relaxing and perfectly tuned so that it will not disturb customers. Now, least but most importantly - the food! Salads are great but my favorites are the spinach and arugula, sooo good! I dont know how they do it, but I think the secret is in the dressings. All pizzas are great as well, but my all time two favorite are the panna cotta (this Italian-pudding style dessert is to CRY FOR), and their super refreshing homemade mint lemonade - especially on those summer days, a must have.

After watching Salerno's fall from grace, I had high hopes for whatever moved into this space. Thankfully Novo Cafe' has gone above and beyond what I expected. I have now been here a few times and had something new each time. While my personal preference is for knock your socks off spice, the arrabiata was fresh, tasty and had enough zing for the common man. One day I lucked out and got a wonderful piece of salmon. I have to agree with my fellow Yelper Leo on the Pollo Novo Panini. It's not horrible, but I really don't see myself ordering again. That still doesn't take away from how wonderful this place is. One fear I have for the place. I have been here and inside it feels like it is 120 degrees. While outside seating is beautiful here, with summer coming in Burbank, hopefully issues with the AC get worked out. That all said, thanks for bringing a bit of class to Burbank Novo. You have a fan in me.

After posting my last review I received a private message from the manager. Asking questions as to what happened with my order. We spoke a couple messages about it and to make up for it offered me a complimentary glass of wine on my next visit. :). With that being said I felt it necessary to update my review from the 4 stars I originally gave to 5.

This is a very easy review to write. We walked over here for lunch right before a tour at Warner Brothers. The pasta was clearly hand-made and fresh, the flavors were wonderful, and the staff was very friendly and top notch. Pricing was, frankly, cheap for the portions we got. I loved the turkey ragu. They also had a bunch of specials on their chalkboard. I'd be back in a heartbeat if I were in the area again.

Loved this place it feels warm and inviting, good portions, delicious flavor. I had the beef ragu, and salad the fact that the pasta was fresh and homemade made it even more yum. They also have cronuts which I will be back to try.

This could have easily been a four star with a few changes .. nice outdoor seating , wine, good pizza.i went in hopes of having the butternut squash Ravioli but they don't serve it anymore.. had the Calamari and pizza instead. pizza was great , not a fan of the Calamari. The staff was not very friendly and seemed like you were bothering them. It seemed like they didn't realize they were working at a restaurant. I did like the outdoorspace and cafe casual feel, but like I said food was just Ok and staff was a thumbs down so that = about a 3 star to me. I would def go back and order the pizza though

Based on Yelp reviews, a friend and I had dinner on 3/14/14, and my overall review is a 3.5. Loved the space, in and out (patio is actually more appealing), very nice staff, and food was good to very good. We split bruschetta, which was delicious, and my fettucine with chicken was good, not great (and actually tasted a tad bit like institutional food), and my buddy had the chicken Panini (he said very good). I'm going back for breakfast and have high hopes.

Really great fresh handmade pasta and from the looks of the menu, and the warm welcome/great service, I'll be going back for more. Don't skip out on dessert. I tried my first Cronut and I wasn't disappointed. This place is a fast casual Italian joint worth checking out.

Was attending a taping of Ellen and while waiting made it to the restaurant. Walked in and ordered a breakfast sandwich. Wasn't expecting it to be SO HUGE!!! It was delicious (had the veggie sandwich on the restaurants homemade bread). For the size the price was good. Sat on the patio was covered and super nice. Wished I had gotten their mint lemonade! Freshly made!

I ordered the fettuccine pasta with meat ragu. It was really good and the portion was nice. You can really taste the fresh, homemade pasta. The service was really good and everybody on the staff was very attentive to our table...a big plus!! The only drawback to this place for me is that the prices are a little on the high side for pasta so I couldn't afford to eat lunch here as much as I'd like to. Maybe for the $12 I spent on my meal, they could have thrown in some garlic bread. That would help ease the pain to my wallet. I will definitely go back though!

The real Italian deal. Owner is from Italy. Pasta & bread is made daily fresh in front of you. Sauces are outstanding. Dish portions are a bit small and they are pricey.. But everything is delish! Worth a splurge for "Buon Cibo!"

Certainly one of the best lasagnas I've ever had. Pizza was awesome as well. Had the Classico and would absolutely get it again.

Found this place by accident, but we've been here a few times since. It's been pretty empty around dinner time every time we've gone, which does always make me a little sad because it's actually really good! I've had pizza and a couple of the pastas, and all of them were delicious. The staff's always really friendly and nice about explaining what all the different pastas and sauces are. Oh, also, they have free refills. Which shouldn't be as exciting as it is, but for some reason, most of the casual Italian places in the area don't. But I'd love to go and have it be a little more crowded, as nice as it is to have that huge patio almost all to ourselves. Definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner.

Disappointing. The girl at the counter had no people skills. Paid $20 for ravioli and a lemonade... Only to get cold raviolis. They replaced it with pasta that was decent, but certainly not worth the money. Didn't even think to refund me the difference or offer something to make up for it.

I ordered the salccicia (sausage) pizza WITHOUT the kale. I got back to my hotel room to find it was covered with kale. I like a charred crust but it was burnt in a lot if spots. While the guy is ringing up the check he tells me I could of had a 15% discount if I had checked in with Yelp. Well, here's my check in.

Orecchiette with garlic and olive oil - For some reason the orecchiette weren't doing it for me. Loved the browned garlic but as a whole, this didn't knock my socks off. I think offering freshly ground black pepper when serving would improve everything. Also offering bread to all diners rather than having people ask for it. Pumpkin ravioli with browned butter and sage- good, but the additional $2 for the ravioli made an expensive small dish for 7 ravioli. Spinach and ricotta ravioli with beef ragu- the additional $2 for the ravioli made this $15+ for a very small plate of 6 ravioli. A +$1 surcharge for gnocchi and $1.50 for ravioli would make the supplemental price more bearable. The last bill for the ravioli with beef ragu killed my crush on Novo. Will come once a month, maybe. Good but too pricey for me.

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Burbank. Nothing beats enjoying a great meal with good service while sitting in the outdoor courtyard. Breakfast selections include different types of breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, oatmeal, pancakes...the usual...but it's all delicious and served with a smile. I've never had lunch or dinner here but see a great food and drink list that makes me want to come back.

The place looks cool, but there were many problems with this first visit. We've ordered 4 plates totaling $ 70 1. The gnocchi came with a huge hair, we've sent back but the replacement came undercooked and without the chicken 2. Server forgot to bring the beer that was purchase, requested to see the receipt. 3. The whole grain pasta tasted like cardboard 4. The server dropped the fork full of sauce on my wife I think they do better but for this visit it was very bad. I wish the best for them.

We called in a take-out order because we were having a business meeting at our house. When I went to pick the order up, there was a very long line to order and I had to stand in that line to pick up the phone order. The line took about 20 minutes and our food was sitting there getting cold the entire time. When I finally came home with the food it was tepid at best and very blah. The gnocchi was definitely frozen, not fresh and the rest of the pastas were just meh. Not worth it, won't go back.

One of my most favorite places in LA. Not only the food is extremely delicious and Italian authentic, but the owner of the place - Massimo is almost always there to welcome guests and make sure you have the best experience ever. Absolutely love their pizza, you can always make it gluten-free or vegan. They also use organic products which is very important to me. One of my favorites is Wild Alaskan salmon and Steak salad. Their coffee and macaroons are to die for!

Love this place, 5 stars for the quality you get and price paid, I have had far worse Italian food for $18-20 a plate. You won't get genius here, but you will get quality food that was done with some thought and respect toward the customer. Staff is always friendly, I mainly get take out here, always met with a smile.

I don't always have the ability to "check-in" when I get my lunch picked up for me during work hours. But the food is worth a review. We've ordered NOVO twice since I started working nearby. I've had the spaghetti all' arrabbiata. Perfect. And I've had the spaghetti with pink sauce. Also perfect. I always start with the simplest dish. If they can't nail the simplest dishes, it's not worth splurging $14 for better fancier dishes. IMO. The prices are on the higher end relative to portion size, but I hope it's because their actual restaurant is clean, friendly, and offers wine and other alcohol. I will assume this until I get the chance to actually dine there. I can't quite give 5 stars because I am not considering service when our office orders takeout. But for food alone, it should be 5 stars. I'm dropping one star for price and inconsistency. The first time, my order came with bread. The second time, without :(

A good friend took me here for lunch today. In the busy part of Toluca Lake with tall office buildings all around. Most of the supplicants at the counter seemed like business types. There is a large patio facing a side street, kinda hot today so we ate inside. You have to queue up at a counter to order and the line can be long. I am not fond of that plan. We ordered and found a table and set our order number on it. I ordered lasagna, always my 'go to' selection at a new Italian place. I also ordered a small salad with tomatoes. My friend ordered a different pasta dish and took the same salad. If you want water you have to go over to a jug and squirt it in a plastic cup. My lasagna was very good, the salad sort of average with a dearth of tomatoes. Overall a nice place, decent price, but nothing special. Parking very hard unless you valet for $5. Unlikely return visit. mig, loves Italian

This place is super close to my work and I decided to come here ONLY because Olive and Thyme was closed for filming. Boo! I came in and ordered at the counter. I think it was my mistake for not ordering the right dish since this is an Italian restaurant but I just didn't feel like a pizza or pasta so I went with my gut by ordering their Mediterranean Quinoa Salad that comes with chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, EXTRA EXTRA virgin olive oil and fresh-squeezed lemon for $9.25. I want to emphasize here on the word "extra!!" My salad was super drenched with oil and it was probably one of the worst quinoa salads I've ever had in my life. This was a complete bummer because the entire rave from other reviewers caught me by surprise. I mean, I do blame myself for not ordering something Italian but I would imagine that all their dishes should be great. Seriously? How can you mess up on a salad? =(

This cafe is right across from work, and I'm so glad I finally decided to try it for lunch! Came in and ordered at the counter. I got the Toscana- house-made green tagliatelle with italian sausage ragu and chicken strips in a mildly spicy red sauce ($15.50). I also got the pink panther- which was green tea with raspberry. The total came out to be around $20, which was pricey for lunch, but definitely worth it due to the large portions. My friend got the Trifolata pizza with fresh mozzarella, trifolati mushroom, and prosciutto di parma ($12) and a mint lemonade. The food came out in a few minutes, and we were surprised at how delicious it was. The reviews made us underestimate our food, but it was so good. The tagliatelle was more textured and thick and was soft and chewy. The beef ragu was my favorite part- it was very rich and went really well with the pasta. The grilled chicken added a nice topping to it, and we also got a piece of bread. The pizza was yummy- the bottom was still crisp (not soggy) and the toppings were perfect. Loved the proscuitto and the mushrooms! The server brought out parmesan and pepper for our pizza, which we also put on our pasta as well. I couldn't decided if I liked the pasta or the pizza better... The pink panther was great- the server recommended it and I could definitely see why. Not too sweet but with a hint of raspberry. The mint lemonade tasted like mint lemonade.. but a little on the sour side. Portions were huge. We ended up taking the pasta togo as we could not finish. Overall, a very delicious Italian lunch in this area! Definitely will be back again to try their other dishes!

Nice venue, casual atmosphere, can be bustling with business at peak times but it only adds to the charm - granted you are in a social mood. Wait staff here is friendly and aim hard to please. Food is good, not spectacular, but tasty. I did find the prices to be slightly inflated, but I think it's due to the location, especially with a ton of studio professionals nearby. They serve complimentary bread? here but it's definitely nothing to write home about. If you're starving though, it's a welcoming sight and enough to settle any pangs of hunger or an episode of hangriness. There is street parking and I believe even valet parking, a bit ridic if you ask me, but parking nonetheless. We ordered the beef ragu with fettucini and the Malibu special. Honestly, neither were amazing, which I was praying for, but it was enough to call it A-OK. I was rather disappointed with the portion size, on the small side, if I was dining for dinner I would hope the serving size would be more generous. I don't find myself day dreaming about this place, but if in the area and need a quick pasta/pizza fix, I would give Novo a second chance, especially since the service was great.

Best thing I ate here was the tuna melt and the Margherita Pesto Pizza. The tuna melt came with a home made bread that was soft and crispy, not thick and not thin but just right. Melted cheddar cheese adds to the good tasting tuna. The margherita pesto pizza was really simple but delicious. Thin crust was good and the light touch of mozzarella cheese was good, but I added red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese and it was outstanding. Also tried the Pollo Novo (Chicken Panini) with Caramelized onions and it was okay, I wouldn't get it again. At first we were picking up our food but since we found parking we stayed and ate inside. Staff was nice and attentive in every way possible. My friend ordered the Novo Mint Lemonade and let's just say my water that they offer and I belive holds cucumbers in the pitcher tasted better in my opinion. My friend drank it slowly through out the night. Hope to come back and sample other items on the menu.

This place has consistently good food and friendly service and is a favorite of mine in this neighborhood. You order at a counter and they bring you bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar while you wait on your food. The water is self-serve and it's flavored with cucumbers, which is a nice touch. For the price, I always feel like I get a nice portion of food and everything tastes very fresh and delicious. They also have a nice patio.

Came here on a whole with a group of coworkers who wanted to grab lunch. Wasn't expecting much, the menu didn't look too appealing to me. By my surprise I was sure wrong! I ordered the 1/2 tomato bisque 1/2 panini with a side of the garlic cheese sticks. Let me tell you... I could live off those garlic cheese sticks with the tomato bisque the rest of my life!!! The tomato bisque was perfectly balanced with a creamy aftertaste. I will definitely be back soon!!!!!

Bookmarked this place and was excited to finally try it out, but unfortunately I was disappointed. The employees were very nice (5 stars), however the food...was overall bland for everyone's taste in my party. (2 stars) Pink sauce spinach cheese ravioli - nothing to rave about, it needed something more, both the ravioli stuffing and the sauce. ( 2 stars) Garden pizza - to have that many veggies on a pizza and still taste bland, that is not good. The tomato sauce should have helped the flavor of the pizza, but it didn't. Wasn't worth eating, and so I was still hungry, like many others at my table. (5 stars) Their Mint lemonade was the best thing there! (1 star) The complimentary bread at the table, with balsamic and olive oil, was not what I was hoping for. The bread is too hard and doesn't absorb the liquids, so there is no flavor...once again. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing here as other yelpers are liking the place, but all 10 members of my family agree with me...so there is clearly something wrong with the food during our visit on a not so busy Saturday evening. We all decided not to get dessert there, even though we were still hungry, and went somewhere else for dessert.

Meh. Was so excited to try this! I wanted to love it so badly. I should have known amazing Italian food couldn't be found in Burbank. If you think this is good Italian food you should definitely venture to LA more to see what fresh pasta should taste like. FOOD: Complimentary bread with balsamic and olive oil (2 stars): Nice to have something to munch on, but it had no flavor. Even that balsamic had no flavor. They should probably use a bread that would soak up the balsamic better. I had to pour the balsamic directly on my bread to even taste anything. Cheese bread (3 stars): Nice and soft. Actually had flavor! Fettuccine with pink sauce and chicken (3 stars): I've had better homemade pasta and pink sauce. Standard pasta dish, nothing blew my mind. Usually when I have home made pasta I'm in love with the texture and freshness, this didn't give me that feeling. Trifolata Pizza (1 star): I have never had such a bland pizza before. The tomato sauce literally tasted like nothing. I don't know how that can be fresh and homemade with such little flavor. I had to add Parmesan and red pepper to even be able finish it. I almost added salt to even make it taste like something! DO NOT GET THEIR PIZZA!! ATMOSPHERE (4 stars) You order at the counter and sit with a number and they bring you the food. There are tables inside and outside with a covered patio. Nice place, spacious. Water is out for you to grab on your own. SERVICE (4 stars) We made a reservation since we had a big group. It was our first time so we had no idea we had to order at the counter and no one told us after we sat down. When we realized no one was coming to help us we had to ask for menus and where to order. Everyone was really nice though.

We ended up here quite by accident - originally intending to do brunch at Olive and Thyme across the street- but it was a bright and super-sunny day and with several customers eyeing the only patio table sitting in the shade at Olive, and us not willing to sit inside freezing our asses off under the AC while it's 90 degrees outside, we aborted mission and headed over to Novo instead. With a nice, spacious (fully shaded!) patio this is the perfect spot to hang out on beautiful summer days (even if they happen to be in Spring - god bless the southern California climate!!) - and so that is exactly what we did. What I didn't dig as much was the process of ordering food - which is self-serve: you go over to their counter instead of them coming to you. Still, the line wasn't bad at all, food quality was good and service also satisfactory. I found it slightly on the pricey side, but the whole experience was relaxing and fun and I will be happy to try this place again next time I'm in the area.

Was on vacation and stayed at Tangerine hotel and with Novo across the street we decided to try it one morning and it was a delight. We got a cappucino and espresso and both were delicious. Also got the Novo breakfast sandwich and pancakes and were very happy. Great service also and pleasant environment. If you're staying in the area its a no brainer to try this place.

We ordered off the specials chalkboard. Spaghetti and meatballs - great meatballs. I was never a fan before, but these mets balls, everything was spiced nicely & I would have minded making a sandwich out of them too! Toscana - green tagliatelle, with mildly spicy sausage, white wine and chicken filet - nom nom nom (this dish didn't even need the chicken, the spicy sausage ragu was excellent, IMHO). Both entrees were specials of the day. The atmosphere was great, as was the service. Absolutely no complaints there The breadsticks came out quickly & was delicious. After reading some of the yelp reviews, I was expecting them to be hard (someone had mentioned that the bruschetta was too hard, but we just went with the free breadsticks. Even though it looked like it could have been hard, it was crispy & soft inside. Perfect for dipping into the olive oil & balsamic that was on our table. This is a small place, locally owned would be my guess. The portions were huge. I ate lunch there, but it turned into my dinner the same night, as well as my breakfast the next day. Yum!! Cherry Italian Soda - was good, but nothing that I would go out of my way to get again. Compared to the one I tried at Bair Bistro up in WA, I like the Bair Bistro's Italian soda (however they did have an entire old school soda fountain there, so I don't know if that factors into anything). Last but definitely not least... DESSERT! The Cronut - made to order with their pizza dough vs normal bread and croissant dough. Again, I didn't find anything wrong with the Cronut. It was amazing. They are made to order, so plan to wait 10 minutes before they can get cook the "donut" part for you. I specifically loved this dessert since it was again crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. If you were expecting just a donut cut in half, they don't do that here. We got what looked like a donut, with a big scoop of chocolate gelato and then whipped cream in top. It was also very nicely plated. I was going to get a couple cookies to bring home, but I was stuffed, so after the Cronut, I had forgotten. But am going to get them next time. Great little place with indoor and outdoor tables. If you check in on yelp, there's a current offer for 50% off pizza and paninis. But it's only valid from 3pm to 6pm. I saw the pizza and it looked tasty too. Same with the paninis. I hope that they still have the 50% deal when I go back, since now I kind of want to try everything.

The service is great, food is tasty!!! I give it 4 1/2 stars for both. I ordered the Tuna Melt sandwich.,and it comes with a salad. They have great outdoor seating when it's beautiful outside. The place is very nice & clean. My friend ordered their Chopped Chicken Salad, which she loves also. There is valet parking. I am not sure how much they charge, because I walked here from work.

Note to owner: dined in last night. Love your place but your food was a bit off. Pizza was soggy and kind of fell apart (had to use a knife and fork) and your Malibu pasta was warm and wasn't hot. The pasta was also still hard. For the love of Novo though, i'm sure you'll get the kitchen up to par. Will be back soon.

I came around to this place with a few others while I was in town to see a show screening. The first thing I ordered was a latte. It was okay, not really up to par for a place that is Italian themed in my honest opinion. It wasn't really frothed that well, and they used too much milk anyways. The regular only has one shot which is really watered down. The fruity drinks like the pink panther and the strawberry breeze were pretty good though. I should have gotten one of those. I was the only one to eat and I had the Broccolata. It was pretty decent. I wouldn't recommend it if you are not into foods that are really salty, but for me it was eatable. It says "tossed in garlic" which is cool, I wished they roasted it better to really bring out that flavor that compliments Italian dishes. Overall it was okay. The service isn't too bad, just an average cafe kind of thing. It was cheaper than the surrounding restaurants which is why we decided to come here.

Great place to sit down and have some lunch/dinner. Everything was quite delightful, even the cashiers and servers, their service was great. I had garlic cheese bread sticks to start off with and oh boy! They were so good, along with my tomato bisque. I'm so glad I stopped here to have dinner.

The best part about this place is that it's closer to a casual dining/coffeehouse than a restaurant - meaning you order and sit, and can sit for awhile without getting rushed to leave be a server. And they have wifi! Better than a Starbucks and much better food. My favorites are the chocolate muffins and the pasta daily specials.

A solid 3.5 stars! My friend and I stopped by for a quick dinner after planning on trying this place and putting it off for some time. I was lucky and got a spot right in front but the parking looks a little tricky because its in a busy part of Burbank, congested and the streets are small. There is a pretty large patio in the front edged off with honeysuckle or jasmine. They were very fragrant and beautiful. The set up is pretty simple. You go inside and order your food and they give you a number and then bring your food to you. There are also some tables inside if it's too chilly to eat outside. The menu has a variety of panini sandwiches, salads, pizzas and pastas. I decided on the Classica pizza which was artichokes, black olives, mushrooms and prosciutto. The pizza was thin crust and wood fired, but it was a little soggy. There was also very little actual prosciutto on the pizza. Other than that, it was okay and tasty. Solidly okay. The Misto salad I ordered was also just a solid okay. It was a mixed green salad with a bit of a simple balsamic vinaigrette with some candied walnuts, thin slices of cucumber and some sliced grape tomatoes. Good but simple and a bit basic. But again, solidly good. We also tried one of their Cronuts. We both decided that we were not fans. It tasted a little stale in my opinion but my friend thought it was fried in the wrong kind of oil. I'm not sure but I wasn't a fan. There also seemed to be chocolate ice cream in the middle rather than the Nutella we were expecting. Also, it was topped with a mountain of whipped cream, but the donut itself was very thin and not sliced through and filled the way we thought it would be. On a side note, we also tried a tiny bit of the Pistachio gelato which was also okay. All in all, I love the idea and the food is a solid 3.5 stars!

This place is AHH-dorable! I love their location but I feel like their location is hurting their business because they're kind of tucked away and out of the main street's view. First, the atmosphere is very welcoming and warm. Second, they've obviously trained their staff well because if you ask them anything about their menu, they deliver with a knowledgable answer rather than the typical, 'I'm not too sure, let me ask my manager.' Third, they make all their pastas and bread type products in house! You can't help but love home made dishes. So, when you order a pasta dish, you choose a pasta then a sauce. I decided on their green tagliatelle (spinach pasta) with the aglio olio (extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic and parsley topped with fresh parmesan). [$8.50] Oh. My. Goodness. This was mouth watering yummy! And the fact that its completely made in house makes it just that extra bit more tasty. The bf ordered the Pollo Novo [$12.00] natural free-range chicken slowly braised in olive oil, garlic, white wine, chicken broth, onions, carrots, celery, smothered with caramelized onions, avocado spread, served on our house-made bread and served with a small arugula salad. This was also very delicious. I'm not much of a sandwich kind of girl but this one was worth it. The chicken was cooked to perfect and the salad made a nice pairing. Overal, the meals were great and well worth the price. *if you dine in, ask for bread while you wait. *they have patio seating, which is quite lovely for day or night.

While visiting CA this place was across the street from our hotel. We stopped in for breakfast and were very impressed. Their omelettes have very fresh ingredients and the servings are generous. Their homemade bread is a very unique taste and texture. We had flown all night, were very tired, and this awesome meal and delicious coffee options were a great start to our trip and hit the spot perfectly. They also had great customer service and were very attentive. Enjoy!

Ok...LOVED THE STAFF! The pasta and salads are fresh and delicious...one exception...gnocchi while handmade was way undercooked and tough...that said the flavor was great. What a thoroughly unpleasant experience. I ordered delivery from this cafe today. And it took nearly 80 minutes to arrive. But food delivery has been slow with other restaurants and the food still good. So, I held out hope. But I really shouldn't have. I ordered the beef ragu with fettuccine, the house-made tiramisu, and a coke. The beef ragu drowned the noodles. The noodles were overly thick and stiff. God help me, the tiramisu was actually melted. MELTED!!! And the coke tasted watered down. Yet, the cup was filled with ice. No clue how that happened. I haven't had that bad a meal in quite some time. First and last experience with this place.

Incredible gem in the Toluca Lake/Burbank area. Came here twice - staff holiday/birthday lunch and a volunteer post-event gathering. We had wonderful food both times. Massimo, the owner, was very attentive and came over several times to our table to see how the food was and how we were doing. Novo Cafe was a sponsor at our event and we were happy to return the favor by hosting our gathering at his restaurant. We had gluten free pizza, mediterranean quinoa salad and the arugula salad. All wonderful dishes with great flavors. For dessert we were treated to the tiramisu - yum!! You should definitely try out this wonderful place. You won't regret it.

We ate here the other night when we are in the mood for Italian food. We ordered calamari, cheese sticks, fungi pasta, and the chicken Parmesan. The food tasted fresh but was a little lacking in the seasoning. The chicken parm unfortunately didn't come with pasta as they usually do so my hubby got fries. The mint lemonade was yummy and I definitely recommend that. The calamari was tasty but a little chewy and under cooked. Would definitely order it extra crispy next time. All and all was just ok. Oh and one bummer is we tried to order the Cronut for dessert but they ran out :( Will come back eventually and give it a second try

Parking is hard if you don't get there early. We ordered the black ink pasta, kids size spaghetti and the steak. The black ink pasta was just meh. Can't taste anything but butter sauce. Got the spaghetti for my toddler and he didn't like it , I tried it and it was tart. Maybe that's why it wasn't a hit. The steak was delish, it came with fries but I wish I had something else like rice or mash potato. The best part was dessert, tiramisu and cannoli to die for!

I just came in for a cannoli on a wednesday afternoon when the cafe was near empty. There were about three tables occupied. The servers were just busy chatting with each other behind the counter while i was met with a cashier who wasn't very friendly. I thought about leaving but wanted to trust the yelp review and give this place a shot. After ordered and paid for a cannoli ($6 for a small one), i grabbed a seat on their patio which was clean and pretty with plenty of seats. A short while later, the cashier guy showed up with my cannoli in a plastic container with plastic cutlery set when i clearly stated the cannoli was for dine-in, and NOT for take-out. I HAD EVEN PRE TIPPED WHEN I MADE MY ORDER! The cannoli filling was all over the cannoli shell and was not very appetizing looking. The filling had weird clumpy taste while the shell was soggy. Bad service, bad cannoli, nice patio... hmm... NO THANKS

I have been here for both breakfast and dinner. The breakfast wraps are great. They're huge and affordable for what you're getting. The pastas I tried were just ok to me. I think I came in with too much hype from my family because it didn't blow me away like it did them. I'm willing to come back and try more things though, maybe a simpler pasta next time.

We went to this cafe right after getting into town, before our Warner Brothers studio tour. One of those, you order at the counter and they bring it out deals. So we order. I got a pizza with I think goat cheese, prosciutto, and arugela. Husband got a bacon alfredo pasta dish. I will say my pizza was excellent. You CAN'T eat it in one sitting though, so if you aren't going to a place where you can throw it in the fridge, maybe don't get it. Husband's pasta was... it was bad. There is a thing as too much bacon. And this was it. It was basically bacon pasta. Which might be a fun novelty to try a fork full of, but eating a whole bowl of it proved too much. It was icky.

Excellent Margherita pizza. Ordered it cheese less and added artichoke. Super fresh! Definitely coming back for more ( and I'm not even a pizza fan). There are other Italian items that I would like to try next time-maybe some pasta and a salad. I came out to lunch during the week and didn't have a problem with a wait or anything. You can get in and out if here in an hour if you need a quick bite.

Ordered the tomato soup bisque and the tuna melt. I asked them to bring the soup out first as an appetizer. Instead, they brought the sandwich out first. Then when I finally got the soup, it tasted like hot water. Do not order the tomato soup. Its no good.

Stopped by for a cold drink. Ordered a watermelon soda and a strawberry smoothie. Soda was whatever, kind of like a heavily watered down redbull flavor. Smoothie was decent, little syrupy flavor so it was different from what I'm used to. Not a bad experience, 3 stars because I have high expectations for anything watermelon. EDIT* -ended up not being able to drink the soda anymore so I asked if I could change it for a smoothie and just pay for it. They politely said they would just change it and apologized for the inconvenience. Great customer service!

I feel like I came on a off night. At first we were confused, do we seat ourselves, do we order first then sit down. We stood confused, and the staff was busy cleaning, or something. We ended up grabbing a menu and sitting down trying to figure out our meal. The menu seemed nice, with pastas, and pizzas, and typical italian food. It said handmade lasagna, so I went with that. My date, Pesto ravioli. We also ordered calamari. Now this is the even more confusing part. The whole place seems confused. Its a nice place, but then you get plastic disposable cups and a soda fountain for beverages. They didn't have waiters, but they did have food runners that dropped your food off. The bread, basic.. seemed like they reheated it in a microwave.. the calamari seemed ok, typical nothing special. The main meal comes.. my lasagna was swimming in oil, or water.. it seemed off in the presentation. Very small, and very soupy. The bottom was stuck to the dish.. mmm hard overcooked, but freshly made lasagna.. It was ok, not the best - and again, came with a microwave warmth and taste to it. It just seemed like I was eating leftovers. Now the part that left me feeling ill. My date's pesto ravioli. Im not sure if it was missing something, but it had so much pesto sauce it looked like soup. The ravioli was filled with what seemed like sautéed spinach.. but nothing else. Was there suppose to be a cheese in it, not sure - but we thought it did. It was just pesto, spinach and noodle. It was awful, boring, and again, not hot.. not cold.. just a little warm. I tried to help her eat it, and gave her some of my lasagna.. but after a few bites of ravioli I just wanted to leave. I don't know, it seems like people love this place, and it does seem charming.. maybe I came on a bad night.. but when I would choose an Olive Garden over your place.. there is a problem.

I stopped in for a business meeting and was pleasantly surprised. I'd thought this was just a coffee shop, but it's so much more. I was impressed with the fresh house-made pasta (you can watch as they make it) and the butter sage was very good. I'll definitely be back!

Pretty good. Nice location near the studio. Great patio for people watching and talking with company. Food was fresh, served hot, and prompt. Order your food at the counter and it gets brought out to you. My first go was penne pasta with pink sauce. Pasta was cooked al dente, which is how I like it. Sauce was creamy but not sickly so. Wait staff was friendly and price was reasonable. I will try again in the future.

Novo Cafe is my favorite Italian food in all of LA. The food is phenomenal. It's fresh, made in house and true Italian cuisine. The prices are right on. We're talking hand made pasta for $12-17 people. The owner is great. So hospitable, he makes you feel like family. We are seriously here twice a week. My favorite items... Turkey ragu with gluten free spaghetti Bruschetta Misto Salad Cronut Great atmosphere. Live music on Thursday and Friday on the patio. Patio is heated in case we get that rare California chill. Try it out, I promise you will be back!

While their food has never disappointed, the customer service is so hit-or-miss at Novo that I can't give it more than 2 stars. If you are lucky enough to give your order to the owner, there never seems to be a problem. He is warm, friendly, and more than accommodating. I just wish that this attitude extended to the rest of the staff. While some are perfectly nice and helpful, others could not care less about how they come across to customers. I recently tried to put in a special order (i.e. food allergies) over the phone - an order that the owner has taken a few times before with no trouble - and was told by the person taking my order that she could not do what I was asking for. I mentioned that I had placed this order a number of times before, and never had any trouble, but she refused, and was indignant when I asked her to check with the owner to get the OK. I even offered to pay more for this "special request," to no avail. She came back and told me that she had asked the owner, and was told they would not fulfill my order. I'm assuming this means she didn't even bother to ask the owner, and simply lied to me on the phone, in order to shut down the request. More recently, a co-worker of mine waited more than 25 minutes for a to-go pizza order, and when she eventually asked them if they had an eta, they casually let her know that they had not even started the order. She was in a hurry to get to a meeting, as her lunch break was quickly coming to an end, and when she told them this, the server simply looked at her and said, "what do you want me to do about it?" Since she had already paid for the pizza, she could not just leave, so she got them to reluctantly agree to deliver the pizza to our office, across the street. Had they not accommodated this request, I'm guessing none of our team would be eating at Novo again. As of right now, we are choosing to place our rather large group lunch orders at other local restaurants, rather than Novo. (Which is a shame, because the food is really good!)

Found this place on Yelp and decided to stop by for lunch. The place has a great atmosphere; very casual and elegant. I ordered fettuccine with the mushroom cream sauce, and I can honestly say it was amazing! The pasta was cooked just right and the sauce was very hearty and flavorful, not skimping on the mushrooms at all! The complementary bread was a nice thing to munch on, but nothing too special. I'll be gladly returning.

Honestly the place had an nice vibe and food (though it was a little on the pricey side), but DONT go there if you're a music artist that doesn't play acoustic music and sing. A friend of mine and I wanted to rap and sing an R&B style song (clean lyrics and professional production with a history of performing famous high end venues btw) and they straight up told us "we don't want your music played here". It's not like they're bad people but they didn't specify on their website under "open mic" that they are so picky. I feel disrespected for them not being professional about where they should have been clear and instead they wasted time, gas & on that note I packed the house and they ended up kicking us out along with telling a fellow (clean lyric rapper) artist he couldn't even play. They don't accept multicultural artists so if you're thinking of feeling free and open hearted, don't play here!

Delicious! I had the penne pasta with the 'pink' sauce. They also have handmade pasta that they serve, but I opted for imported. The cafe is adorable and has a great atmosphere. You go up to the counter to order and then a member of the staff brings it to your table when it's ready. I got my food very quickly and hardly had to wait at all. They brought out flatbread with oil and vinegar to eat before the meal, which was a nice touch. This is a great little place and I will definitely be returning if I'm ever back in the area.

Danesi coffee & an inch of foam, makes a yummy cappuccino. Add that to a cream cheese bagel with tomato & pepper - you get a little slice of heaven. The employees were friendly & attentive, & the building was clean. Not a pretentious scene. Can't wait to come back & try their pasta. They make it right in front, for everyone to drool over.

Freshly made pasta! Literally. They make it while you are standing there. Ordered the fettucini alfredo with chicken and my wife ordered the spaghetti with checca. Both were awesome. The pasta melts in your mouth. My son's penne with butter, on the other hand - not so good. The pasta was hard and chewy. I asked, what's up with that? They said it was, "Imported". Translation: not freshly made, hard and chewy. Stick with the fresh pasta. You'll love it.

If you want delicious authentic Italian cuisine without having to go to Italy, this place is for you! We had the handmade pasta and pizza for dinner which truly tasted homemade. The tiramisu and cannoli was light, fresh, and absolutely divine. Indoor and outdoor area is clean and cozy. I love this place!

This place was awesome! Great quality food. The pizza, salad, and sandwiches were fantastic. The service was just as good. The two I dealt with were Shana and Erick. came here for a late lunch the AC was broken but they said they were working on it but luckily a corner seating area was pretty cool. We ordered the {WATERMELON FRESO} and {MINT LEMONADE} to drink, both were really tasty and refreshing. For lunch we ordered {PIZZA BURRATTA} and the {CLASSICA} the classica has prosciutto, artichokes and olives - personally I preferred the {BURRATA} but both were good at a very good price!

Super casual place - order at the counter and they bring you your food... The people that cook/work there are Italian - always a good sign.... Handmade pastas were awesome! The quality of the pasta was great. We got the fettucini with beef ragu and fettucini with funghi. Both sauces were good. The only downside was the saltiness of both dishes. I look forward to coming back and trying more things.

Meh. Food is ok. Cocktails are good. It's s bit overpriced for a cafe that you need to go up to the counter to order. Seems like none of the help know their product or rules. One tells me yes on iced tea refills another tells me no. Someone else says yes. Oye. My head is spinning.

Open mic night on Thursdays!! So entertaining!!! Not every act is a hit but some acts hit it out if the park!! Food was amazing as always.. Get the king Salmon. Some of the acts: There were comedians, soloist, duets, guitars, and At one point our whole table was singing along with "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid, freaking hilarious!! We had a blast and will definitely be back for more!!

Really quaint Cafe in the city of Burbank. I ordered a wheat pasta with Turkey ragu, and it was delicious. If you have a gluten allergy then this place is absolute must visit, they have a nice selection of gluten free items. I also enjoyed a latte after the meal, definitely was crafted with love! I'll be coming back again soon! Thank you for the great service as well!

what was once one of my favorite lunch places is now somewhere where I will not eat again. Just ate there today and all three of us ordered the pizza. Its become glaringly apparent that the pizza crusts have been precooked and then heated up with the toppings when ordered. This "time saving" measure has created a pizza that tastes like cardboard. Just awful. they used to cook each pizza to order and now this. will not be going back as this is the second time this has occurred. Get back to making pizzas fresh and I'll come back.

Really great staff and service. Enjoyed a decent glass of wine in the patio... But, the food was just so-so. Bread was nothing to write home about, and the pasta didn't seem to be cooked properly (ie pieces of linguine sticking together/undercooked). Too bad given the positives, but probably wouldn't go back.

Mi piace moltissimo! I grew up in an Italian-American family and I have been dying to find a great, authentic Italian restaurant here in Los Angeles, let alone Burbank. I am thrilled that this is just down the street from where I work and live. So far, I have had nothing but great meals and service. The food is delicious and even their specialty drinks (mint lemonade!) are fantastic. America needs more examples of what Italians really have to offer, and it's not brutes in pinstripes with tommy guns. It's that fine care and artistic attention to detail. Massimo, the owner, is the real deal. I've been greeted with a "Come stai?" (how are you?) every time I've entered. If you know your Italian, bring it and he'll entertain you. When do you go, I'm sure you'll find me there as well.

Happened to be walking around looking for a place to eat after the Ellen Degeneres Show and stumbled upon Novo. Really glad I did. My bf, brother and I were indecisive with picking a place but decided to just go with it when we walked by. My brother got the pollo novo panini, the bf got the il classico panini and I got the vegetariano panini. They all came with a side salad. We all were very pleased with our dishes! The best panini's we've had! If ever in Burbank, would def make a stop here for food. The staff was very friendly and the decor is nice. Only thing I wish I knew, was to check in on yelp for 50% off our bill. But regardless, the food was worth it.

pasta quality was amazing. Alfredo sauce was a little too thin and bland for my taste. had to add cheese and red pepper flakes. Service was really good and it's a nice patio area to eat on! Definitely will go back, but definitely will get something else.

My husband and I had a date night here. We were wow'ed by the romantic atmosphere and the phenomenal bruschetta. Seriously, the bruschetta was SO good. But our entrees were just bleh. The mushrooms in my pasta tasted canned rather than fresh. They just were not up to par. Maybe it was the ones we chose? But seriously, did I mention the bruschetta is heavenly?

Nice cafe on Riverside. Definitely a good lunch spot to relax and enjoy a lunch. Place is large enough to have plenty of indoor seating when cloudy and cool or outdoor seating when the sun is out and just chill on the patio. Took the advice of the waitress and ordered the Puttanesca. I'm not the biggest fan of olives, but it was bearable in this pasta. Tomato sauce was overall nice, just needed to add chili flakes to add an extra level of heat and flavor. Overall a nice joint for some italian fair and relaxation.

Let me start off by saying the pizza is amazing!! I ordered the pizza margherita with burrata cheese and it was so good! I could eat that pizza everyday of my life. It's lite and delicious! The pastas were very good and not to heavy on sauce which is a big plus! This is a great little spot for some good and not to crazy heavy italian food.

Great cafe in Burbank if you love Italian food. I'm still to try the pasta, but so far their coffee, juice drinks and panini are delicioso. Sometimes you can even catch the owner and practice your Italian skills. Also the outdoor patio is fantastic - it's spacious and shaded. I'm coming back again.

BEST BRUCHETTA IN MY LIFE! Fresh baby tomatoes soaked in olive oil and seasoned perfectly on top of a perfectly baked bread, you'll never get this unless youre in Italy itself! The owner was amazing, super sweet Italian guy, I'll definately be back....alot sooner than later!

If Novo was near my place in New England I would be a fat pig!!! Besides that I would be hanging out there all the time. Breakfast, lunch and dinner... and then after dinner for the open mic nights. What a really neat place. Comfortable, good food, drinks, nice atmosphere, can't ask for more.

I enjoyed my visit here. The food was delicious, while the place was very clean, bright and welcoming (their outside patio is perfect on a cool summer afternoon). I ended up ordering their Pollo Novo sandwich, which was awesome, tasted different - crispy exterior crust with a deliciously thin/soggy layer of chicken broth and dough on the inside hugging a mixture of chicken, caramelized onions, olive oil, avocado, and a whole bunch of other greatness. I would definitely return, and recommend anyone who has been interested to try it out.

Came here with a large group - food was OK for lunch but I'm not sure it is what I expected since they rave about the house made noodles. Had the beef ragu with pappardelle and it was a pretty good portion but I wouldn't say I could really tell the freshness of the pasta. The calamari was nice and crispy. My coworker had a pizza and wasn't impressed with it. They also claim to have made to order cronuts but when we got ours, it was cold and didn't taste fresh. So overall the food was decent but my expectations were higher given the claim that everything is freshly made. Parking is on the street and they have a nice large outdoor patio area as well.

Probably the best Italian food in Burbank. They have great handmade pasta and great pizzas. I have been here several times and I haven't had a bad dish. The pizza burrata and puttanesca were especially good. The outdoor patio is a nice place to eat when the weather's nice. Some nights they have live music too.

Novo is my goto place when I want great food and can't make up my mind where to go. The place is clean and quaint, but not as fancy as the food. Speaking of . . . this is authentic Italian food prepared by authentic Italians! Fresh made pasta, hand thrown pizza, exquisite entrees, really exceptional stuff at a bargain price.

Novo Cafe is a pretty decent place to go for lunch if you're in the Burbank area. It's a bit of a make-your-own meal if you get any of the pasta dishes. There are several pasta options and several sauce options to marry them with. I chose gnocchi with butter sage sauce. I really enjoyed it. The sage was crispy which made it an interesting contrast to the soft gnnochi and who can go wrong with a lot of butter on any food? My friend's sandwich also looked good and this Italian cafe is the first to understand healthy portion sizes for a meal. Kuddos to them. I wasn't as impressed with their staff. They were a little unclear in their communication and no one explained that I needed to go get my own water. Also, they brought out our food at much different times which was a little odd. Luckly it was my friend's sandwich which wouldn't get cold so waiting for my pasta dish wasn't a big deal. My other only beef with this cafe... it's Italian with a really nice meal and when they asked if I wanted parmesean cheese... they handed me a shaker of what looked like Kraft powdered parmesean. Really? I just $12 for a plate of gnocchi. Can we spare the expense of a freshly grated good quality parmesean?

We were in town for one night and were staying in the hotel across the street. The Cafe' looked warm and inviting so we popped it. The staff quickly assessed that we'd never been there before and gave us an honest, easy to follow run down of their impressive menu. The only difficult part of the entire experience was narrowing down our final choices. Everything was simply awesome. The street they are on keeps the atmosphere quiet and peaceful... almost where you can forget about the traffic just outside. If we weren't on our way out of town the next day, I would have loved to go back again. If I lived near here, it would the perfect place to frequent: excellent food, friendly atmosphere, and plenty of space. I could see throwing dinner parties here easily.

Sometimes you just get this feeling that a wonderful surprise will occur! As soon as we walked into the restaurant, you could feel the warm hospitality. I love the concept! Choose your pasta, sauce, and meats for a custom tailored meal. Margherita Pesto Pizza- This was extraordinary delicious. The crust had that crisp crunch from your first bite and the fresh taste of bread right out of the oven. The pesto sauce, mozzarella, and tomato sauce was simply icing on the cake! Fettuccine with Arrabbiata (Spicy)-Heavenly. My first bite of the pasta, I knew there was something special about my meal! I couldn't believe how good the pasta tasted.Add the spicy flavor of the arrabbiata sauce and I'm now hooked for life. Pappardelle with Pink Sauce-Fantastic! Sauce had a creamly flavor with a subtle hint of sweetness. I just couldn't figue out why the pasta tasted so good. Until I glanced at the menu board! The pasta is handmade in the restaurant. We were fortunate to witness the Chef handmake the pasta noodles. It looks quite labor intensive, to keep folding the pasta and adding the mixture to the machine. Service-Excellent! Greeted with a warm smile by the whole staff. Parking-Small private lot. Street parking available.

My experience was not good at all...first off the menu is over priced for what they're offering...2nd my moms pizza was dry I mean there was hardly a tablespoon of sauce in it...and last but not least my salad came 20 minutes after my mom received her pizza! I love trying new places but I doubt I will come back here again

I had the Chicken Pesto Pizza.... the house salad... a glass of house wine. Excellent .... . I'm looking forward to going by again soon. I have to give the wonderful heated patio 5 Stars.... as well. My family and I ordered a large take-out meal from Novo cafe. The staff we interacted with was very friendly and helpful, but overall I was very disappointed with food, especially for the price. I really am mystified why this restaurant gets such rave reviews. This place is majorly overrated. The complimentary bread that came with the meal was fantastic -- thin and crispy and seasoned with what tasted to me like a kind of za'atar blend. It was the saving grace of the meal! Unfortunately, everything else was decidedly mediocre, at bigger than average prices for smaller than average portions. The lasagna tasted like the kind you might get in the freezer section. The noodles were tough, there was not much meat in the sauce, and the sauce was bland. The spinach ravioli tasted good. But the sauce on it - a mushroom wine sauce - tasted like someone had melted butter and threw some mushrooms in it, with no wine flavor at all. The pesto was bland, and not nearly salty enough. We ordered a salad and added salmon and avocado, making it $16. The piece of salmon was sizeable and tasted good, but there's no way the salad was worth $16. The two drinks we ordered - a mint lemonade and a watermelon agua fresca - were $5 each. They tasted good, but cost twice what I would expect them to. They were also out of two of the three desserts we ordered. Three desserts on the menu, and you don't have two of them? The cannoli we had was okay, although $5 for one small-ish cannoli, and nowhere near as good as the cannoli I get back in Jersey or NYC. I wouldn't waste your money here.

Clean little italian restaurant with friendly service. We tried the burrata pizza. The sauce was amazing! We asked for more to dip the crunchy thin crust. The chef made more for us from scratch! We also tried the pappardelle pasta with fungh sauce and added chicken. Tasted like the chicken was added at the end and didn't go with the dish. Probably should have left the chicken out. Finished our meal with cannoli and tiramisu :)

Cool scene. Its a nice, comfy looking cafe. Replaced a hole in a wall joint that was once listed in the top breakfast burritos in SoCal. So thats a bit disappointing. Food is decent. Some popping flavors, but nothing extraordinary to boast about. This restaurant wouldve easily gotten 3 stars from me, if it werent for the horrible waitress, Josseline. She will openly berate you for you fashion choice. As a person just trying to enjoy food in a restaurant, i dont think its her place (at anytime or anywhere) to try to express her trashy fashion opinions where she pleases. She should fix up her personality wardrobe.

I ordered the tomato soup . It was satisfactory. The tiny slither of bread given was terribly bland. Not worth the price. And service was very slow! At least the staff was nice. I don't think I will be returning.

Nova Cafe is an awesome place to go and get authentic Italian cuisine. To be honest I have been looking for an Italian restaurant/cafe in my local neighborhood to get away from chain restaurants. I have to say I am completely satisfied with this establishment. Today I had the four ravioli with pesto. It was the best that I have ever had. Now don't let me get started on the mint lemonade. Super refreshing. All I can say is my tummy is in heaven and I am floating a cloud of food happiness. Just a little note the yelpers that I listed their recommended dishes is the best approach as well as asking the employees about the popular items they sure can steer you the right way. Trust me I have the pooch for a tummy to prove it.

The pasta is made in house, and it definitely made a difference. Came here for a birthday and managed to try a variety of entrees, and nothing disappointed. The meatball sandwich, calamari, pesto pasta, and more were all very good. The mint lemonade complimented the meal as well.

Neighborhood Gem for sure. The Hotel across the street recommed this Cafe, and I must say its outstanding. The Tomatoe cream soup just melts in your mouth. Everything we had was delicious.

Found Novo while driving around looking for a place for a quick bite. Well, by accident this was the best find in Toluca Lake area. Great staff, good prices and most of all, really flavored food. Also, their expresso is a must have.

High quality, relaxed atmosphere. Portions are small but you pay for the quality. Cute friendly, attentive staff. Homemade pasta and a bottle of San pellegrino. I am in heaven.

Love this cafe. Portions are just right, and the food is fresh. It's a great place to sit outside during the day and evening with a group of friends.

Only reviewing the cronut, which is worth seeking out. We found it super hard to find dessert in this pocket of burbank/toluca on a Saturday night. The cronut here saved the night from dessert disaster, it came out warm and lovely and I am already plotting my second cronut experience. Will also try the food next time, the patio seemed pleasant and a good spot with kids.

We decided to go here prior to a play at the Falcon Theater a few blocks away. Servers could not be more attentive and friendly - they were great and then some, as was the person at the register who took time to explain the menu as it was our first time there. Those in our group who got pasta enjoyed it greatly. Two women split a small salad - it was big and they couldn't finish it and their pasta. The disappointing menu item was the chicken sandwich. From the menu description we did not expect chicken salad and it was not that tasty. If you read this and decide to go, check them out on Yelp first as there is a discount coupon available.

This is the second time I have had breakfast here. The place was empty when I arrived but the coffee was ready! Food came fast after I ordered at the counter. Omelette I ordered was full of fresh spinach, onions & nice feta. I would order the dish again, my friend ordered pancakes and enjoyed her food. Good sized portions and omelette was 8 and up.

Found my new pasta joint in Burbank/Glendale area. The food is delicious. All the pastas and sauces are freshly made. The portion of the food was perfect and reasonably price. There was a life music in the outside patio. Nice ambience, will definitely be back!

I ordered the Fettucine Alfredo with chicken to go. The server handed the bag of food to me and it was really light. The portion size was laughably small for $14 and change. The dish was fine, but I really expected about 50% more food for the price. I ate it all in about 5 minutes and will be hungry again in a few hours...so I guess I need to find a place to have my second dinner. The place looked nice and the drinks looked good, but I won't be back.

I work close by and this place was recommended to us by fellow co-workers. A group of us went for their happy hour which is pretty amazing- i think its from 3-8pm? We got a spinach salad which was really bland and just meh. We noticed halfway through our salad that the most important thing was missing- THE CHEESE! As our main course we got pizza which was yum! I liked the thin crust and the portion size. Our group ordered food to-go and that just took forever and they mixed up our orders. It was such a drag especially after a long day at work. The staff were really nice and sweet but man for how few people were in that place they messed up a lot of our group's orders.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
