The crab cake was fantastic, all crab no mayo or other filler! Chili cheese fries, perfect chilli cheese fries fries were crispy, the chili was flavorful but not overwhelming! Egg salad sandwich was fresh and delicious! Brisket sandwich smoked to perfection!

I have never ever had a less-than-excellent experience here. Best crab cake sandwich I've ever had. Best lobster roll. Best most things, truthfully. Hope they reopen in a new location soon..

Kitsch neighborhood joint. Good fast home cooked satisfying food. Been a bunch of times and always pleased. Their Eggs Benedict has the most Delicious hollandaise sauce. Artichoke steamed & aioli must get! Pulled pork sandwich is smokey & tender. Grilled cheese sandwich with bacon marmalade is my favorite! Oh my! Crunchy, crispy, cheesy with generous salty smokey sweet maple bacon jam! Sweet potatoe fries - best I ever had! Homemade twinkies where divine! I don't even like regular twinkles but these babies were something else. Service has always been fast & friendly.

It was a wonderful gem, fabulous neighborhood place with some of the BEST food ever. But the landlord raised the rent outrageously high, because he wanted NABS *out* -- he has someone lined up to rent both lots at an even higher price. So, greed shoved this tiny, fantastic joint into the realm of all the businesses who have been *forced* to close. NABS was very profitable right up through the end. NABS owner is looking for another -- affordable -- restaurant property in the Burbank, Eagle Rock, or other cool "neighborhood" environs. If you know of such a place that is available, look for @Glock35Gal on Twitter and let me know. I'll get word to Mr. NABS. Thanks to everyone who came through the door. I know the owner deeply appreciated your patronage. OMG, how I already miss that place.

I went in after seeing a post about the place closing down at the end of the month. And now that I've stopped in, I'm sad. This place is as cute as anything, it feels like the small cafe's I grew up with in the rural parts of the east coast. It had a spoof of the Treachery of Images on the wall. I got a crab cake sandwich and it was fantastic. It wasn't a small, puck sized, previously frozen crab cake. It was bigger than the bun it came on and tasted great. The kicker was that they had Old Bay, one of the few places in LA that I've found where I haven't had to say "Maryland spice" or something. I also got a chocolate lasagna, which was pretty much anything labeled with having cocoa in it that they could find in a grocery store layered together. It was incredible. In the seventeen days left, as of me posting, I am planning on going back at least twice. It's seriously the best crab cake for the price I've had out here.

I've driven by this place numerous times while heading to the ice rink and was determined to give it a try before watching my friend's hockey game. Was curious if they sold hamburgers. The place was fairly crowded and only had one waiter and one cook running the place. Matt, the waiter, was a "true" trooper. He was running all over the place trying to make the customers happy. I asked his recommendation of what I should order and he recommended the pulled pork sandwich since the pork was smoked on the premises. I also ordered french fries and a lemonade. It didn't take too long to get my food and I was pleasantly surprised. The pork had a tasty smoky flavor with a flavorful barbecue sauce dripping over it. The french fries were nice and flavorful. They do have hamburgers on the menu and next time I'll probably try one. I overheard a customer talking about a Facebook post that had caused the influx of customers to this place. This had also caused the kitchen to run out of some of the meals. Matt was great and really helped keep the place running and I will definitely be coming back when on this side of town.

Great customer service. Happy staff. Ordered cod and their homemade chips- delicious Steamed artichoke- warm. So yummy and what a treat!! Kids got a burger- good. Grilled cheese and fries- yummy! Doesn't seem to have air conditioning but a nice breeze. Witnessed the chef giving a kid water for their dog outside. Sweet :) Always kept our drinks full and fast service. Coming back!

I am distraught by Not a Burger Stand's impending closure. In addition to having crave-worthy comfort food, NABS has waiters, waitresses, cooks, etc. who ensure that everyone feels like a regular. As this Yelp review is probably too-little-too-late, I'll reserve the balance for thank yous and shout outs. To everyone, particularly both Matts and Dave: - Thanks for all the bread pudding, vanilla malts, and daily specials. - Thanks for staying open later than advertised on many occasions because our crew can shamefully never remember (or respect) your closing times. - Thanks for putting up with the less than seemly side of BYOB. - Thanks for the special orders--and not judging us for inventing and ordering meatballs and marinara over cheesy fries. It's been grand. I am hopeful that you will find a new location and will look forward to stopping by.

I want to write a good review for this place but alas I cannot. The food is terrible. Pulled pork sandwich was super dry and flavorless. The burger was ok but on a terrible bun. The only thing that was good was my daughters hotdog and fries The location is nice as was the service. But I just can't eat their again.

Grabbed lunch to go from here. First off, my dog and I get my out of my car and one of the guys that works there greets is with a HUGE smile. And as he gives me a menu he gives my dog a huge bowl of ice water!!! And cookies. Then they were super nice and my Thai chicken sandwich with home made potatoe chips was fabulous! Tender, fresh veggies. The decor is far from anything special but I am not there to look at pretty chairs. Will most likely go back tonight or tomorrow. I also now know whenever I am up here for work where I can get great food with my doggie. Super excited!

It's a locals joint, with simple dishes that are served by really friendly people. I came here for brunch and ordered their lobster roll. Not a lot of lobster meat, mostly artificial crab meat, but good. The rest of the dishes looked ok - but what surprised me was that when I asked about certain dishes they said that they may only have one or two left... which lead me to believe that they may pre make a lot of the dishes ahead of time and there is an assembly station for their food. the benedict was ok, slightly bland with a slightly over poached egg which missed the gooey yolky center. NABS would fit perfectly in any movie that has a local diner that is surrounded by a small town or a desert. The people with horses and spurs make me think of Hey Dude when I ate here- we were the city folk, surrounded by country. So not my go to, but maybe my 4th go to, further than I want to go for brunch, but not so far it's not worth mentioning as an alternate place to eat. Hey no line and friendly people go a lot further than one would think. enjoy.

(+) crab cake sandwich was pretty good, I wonder if the $16.75 entree version is much different (+) good service, friendly smiles (+) outdoor seating, nice little location within the neighborhood (-) interior could use some updating and serious TLC, a bit dingy, cushions torn up & dirty (-) flies (x___x)

  • Adam J.

Came here for lunch after someone told me about it and I looked it up on Yelp. It was empty inside, except for the 15 flies buzzing around. I don't think I ordered the right food because it wasn't that great. - Fish and chips: disappointing: Too much batter and didn't taste very fresh - Corn fritters: also too much batter - Pulled pork sandwich: piled high with meat. Not bad - Brisket sandwich: also lots of meat, which is great, but it lacked the smokey flavor that it should have if it's smoked Overall, I'd give the food 2 stars and the service 5 stars. The service was great and everyone working there was super friendly. I'll go back to actually try a burger or one of the dinner specials they often have but I'll either take it to go or sit outside to avoid having to swat flies off the food every 30 seconds.

Quick bite before our tour in Warner Brothers. Had 15 min to eat. The service was spot on and accommodating. Food came out in 5 min and made to perfection! Sweet potato fries are a must!

Found this place on Yelp and even though the reviews were mixed I decided to give it a try. Last night I stopped by, craving a Bar B Q sandwich. This place isn't much to look at but I have learned to never judge a book by it's cover. Place was tiny and no noticeable A/C (door was open). I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich and a side of Mac & Cheese. I wanted so badly to love their food because they are close to my home but I was disappointed. The sandwich was just barely edible but the Mac & Cheese was terrible, I have had better from a box. I hate giving such negative reviews but this place with limited parking, no A/C would have had to have great food to get me to come back. I am giving two stars for the employee that was friendly and promptly took care of me.

  • Lisa A.

I have to say that when I drove up to this place I thought I had made a bad decision. It's a small little place in the middle of nowhere and I was expecting something different. I walked inside and the decor is even more dated so I felt like running for the hills. But I had a Groupon and I was determined to use it. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of mac and cheese and at first bite, I was so glad I stayed! The shrimp were plump, good sized shrimp, cooked and seasoned perfectly. The cheese was melted into the grits so every bite was cheesy goodness. The mac and cheese was good but not the best I've had. With that being said, I would order it again and be happy to eat it. The prices are very reasonable. The parking lot and seating are limited. There's indoor and outdoor seating. This is a place I will eat at again when I'm in the area. I've definitely found a favorite in the shrimp and grits. Better shrimp and grits than I've had at fancy restaurants. I'd only suggest a little bit of scallions and bacon to really send it over the top. Based on the photos of food from other Yelpers, I'm sure I'll find other favorites too! So don't let the decor fool you. The food is really really good! This place is a diamond in the rough.

Really creative menu. And OMG Bacon Marmalade, gray on the grilled cheese and on the burger. Super crispy home made chips. Today's special? Lobster Mac n Cheese!

  • Evelyn C.

This rating is really more of a 3.5. I feel bad giving 3 stars to places with great service, but the food was really mediocre in my opinion. I got the pulled pork sandwich, which many yelpers seemed to love. Although the portions were really big, and I could barely finish my sandwich, the pork was unfortunately dry and flavorless - very disappointing for someone who LOVES pork prepared well. The corn fritters were really good though, although a little over-battered. Well-priced, and I highly recommend it if you want a side with your order. Despite the food, I liked the ambiance of it; it's a small, local lunch place and the workers are super friendly. Since I work in the area, I may come back and try something new. My friend got the crab cake sandwich, and she liked it, so that may be my next option if I decide to come back.

The food is great--when they're open. It's bad enough they're closed on Mondays but a least 50% of the time I go out of my way to eat there, they're closed for one reason or another. That said, the food is great, the atmosphere is fun and their chalkboard is always a source of amusement :-)

Honestly, I love the food here. My gripe won't ever be about the adorable quaintness of the restaurant, the quality of the cuisine, or it's reasonable price.. It will be the consistently bad service. The people that work here are far from rude. They're all very friendly, which gives the place an even warmer, homey feel.. But it's almost like going to your absent minded aunt's house. I've been here on several occasions and every single time they have done some combination of the following: flat out forgotten items I've ordered (after asking for it multiple times) , messed up my order entirely, let my drink stay empty, and let my food go cold before serving it. I would almost understand the underwhelming service if I had ever gone to this place when it was busy, or had only been there once, but I've been there 4 times. All 4 times I have been 1 of maybe 2-3 groups there, and this place has 10, maybe 12 tables including the seating outside? At that point it's just unacceptable. Again, the food is good. I'd almost consider getting something to go, but it's not really worth going out of my way just to get bitterly frustrated for a 5th time.

Matt, My heart is breaking about your upcoming closure. As I just told you, it may be the best thing that ever happened to you however. You guys, besides providing me with good food at a more than fair price, also probably saved my life during the long and painful departure of my beloved husband and life companion John Lowery. I am going to miss all of you ferociously. Maybe a restaurant is not the best venue for you but I hope that it is and that you find a great one close and affordable and with a wonderful landlord. In any case I wish you and your daughter all the best luck in the world. Please stay in touch and I will also.

Very disappointed, the service was the only thing good about this place. Ok I ordered the "Pulled Pork sandwich" VERY DRY I had to remove all the meat and shredd it myself, and the piece I got was Bernt. BBQ sauce taste average, nothing special. Coleslaw very tastles added salt n pepper. Fires average. Ambiance. I can appreciate, ranch style theme settings ,, but you have to wipe off the dirty fingerprints,& clean the dirty vents. I'm not going to say "?!what?!"... But things landed on my food. If your located next to horse stables and ranches, please do your best,to keep out the flys. I wanted to like it.... But I was beat at every turn. Sorry guys you work hard, just feel short.

FOOD: Great tasting Pulled Pork Sandwich! They give you a large portion that is quite filling and the bread is a nice potato bun. Also the fries come in a basket large enough to share but a really hungry man can finish (not a really hungry woman) JK. Also the burger looked great that was my second choice. The patio seating was pretty it faces the corner street and sometimes people on horseback walk through the residential neighborhood which is also nice. PRICE: $6.50 - $12 Burger - $6.50 Pulled Pork Sandwich - $7.50 Fries - $2.50 You won't spend more than $8 before tax if you get a simple sandwich and you don't really need sides if you are just eating alone, a side is good for two people because the portion is for two people in my opinion and I eat a good amount. LOCATION: Can't beat the price around there and the Travel Town Train exhibit is across the freeway there so it is a perfect place to eat before you visit (or the Walt's Disney's Barn which is open 1 a month). ATMOSPHERE: Could use a little updating, old chairs but they look vintage which is a plus for me outside in the patio area, but they use plastic tables that are nice but the large tables are just the ones you would use at a party, otherwise cute little white corner fence about 4 feet high to sit by while facing a corner street. The interior is beat-up a little and the lighting is a little dim, honestly a little updating and cleaning on the inside would be nice but it isn't too bad. That is why I give it a 3 - stars the food was great but the interior could use updating.

I recently ate here for the first time and was very happy with my meal. Homemade gazpacho followed by Cap'n Crunch fried chicken and a waffle. It was all delicious. The servers were awesome ... Attentive and upbeat. I met the owner who was engaging and involved. I'm looking forward to returning for his mum's recipe chicken and dumplings. Great comfort food at good prices with in a casual, friendly environment ... Just what a local place should be!

I'm torn on this place so I will give it 3 stars. The food is good as is the service, but problem is this place is an absolute dump! Have a little pride in your establishment. If I owned this place I would be absolutely embarrassed as how run down and crappy this place looks. Seriously, it looks like you should get a tetanus shot just being there. If they ever fixed this place up I would go back very often. As run down as it is though I'm not sure I will ever go back, even though the food is good.

My husband and I just moved a couple of blocks away from NABS. I drive by this place every weekday morning on my way to work so I decided to look it up. Their fun 10% discounts presented on funny themes on a black board caught my attention. It's a unique little spot, nothing fancy as far as atmosphere but the staff is always really cool and the vibe of this place great. Their food is simply fantastic!! We stopped in on a Saturday and their special happened to be Captain Crunch Covered fried chicken and waffle so I went for it. Truly delicious. The chicken was perfect and juicy, the waffle was amazing and it even came with tasty potatoes. Lots of food for sure. Their corn fritters are delicious as they are dangerous. My husband had the fried cod and I thought the fish was great --this coming from someone who does not like seafood! The employees are really down to earth folks from the East coast. My hats off to the chef. They told us about their rib special that they have every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month so naturally we went this past Thursday to check it out. The legend is true! The ribs are smokey and full of meat. The BBQ sauce is wonderfully tangy even though my husband likes to eat his ribs without the sauce. That is a true testament to the quality of any rib. We truly enjoy this little joint. It's not much to look at but it has a charming character and incredibly good food. Come on down to check it out for yourself! But come with an appetite!

Pulled pork sandwich was really, really awful. I tried the meat first, with a fork, without any sauce or anything on it to gauge the flavor, and I was stunned at how it tasted. I didn't want to take another bite, god knows how old that meat was and what it had been through. Maybe the rest of the menu is decent but this pork sandwich was abhorrent.

Used my Groupon just the other day for Not a Burger Stand. Comfort foods at its finest in south Burbank (close to the Disney studios and equestrian center). It's a small restaurant with outdoor and inside seating and some parking spots/street parking. Food's good here. Lots of burgers, salads, fried stuff, BBQ, sandwiches, etc. Everything is quick, the order's are large and the prices aren't expensive. Groupons/Living Social deals are deals to bring in new customers...I'm sold! My crab cake burger was awesome! Corn fritters not bad, service was cool! Not a lot of seats and tables so I'd imagine it would be busy during the lunch time.

Just finished our first breakfast here and couldn't wait to write our review. What a gem!! Every single person here is super friendly! From the wait staff to the cooks in back. The place is very clean and they have great seating outside plus they already had the misters going since it's going to be hot today. I would give them more stars just for the service for my coffee. They brewed me a fresh pot of decaf and poured it over a giant cup of ice for me without me even asking. I just happened to mention when he took our drink order that a cold drink sounded good too. Our breakfast was fantastic! We both got the Eggs Benedict ($7!!!). I had mine with grilled tomato instead of ham. It comes with their homemade chips and they are fantastic!! Light and crispy and delicious. I can honestly say I've never paid so little for such a fantastic breakfast. Total for 2 entrees with 2 coffees was $20! I am beyond happy with our first experience here and can't wait to come back and try some of the other things on the menu...especially for lunch or dinner!!

This place is simply amazing! I had their Barbeque Portobello Mushroom sandwich twice -- and it changed my life. This was the most delicious sandwich I ever ate. I kid you not. They do Lobster Tacos. The sauce would make a French chef weep. These people are out of control. This is way, way beyond some out-of-the-way joint for local studio folks to come grab a bite. I'd drive here from Santa Barbara for their stuff. They do desserts that belong in a 3-star Michelin joint. Think I'm exaggerating? Come and hit this place. Totally relaxed ambience, great service, and you ain't gonna forget what you eat... Promise.

This place is NOT a burger stand! Okayyyyyy, we get it. This is also not a place to come on a hot day, there's no ac. This is not a place to come 15 min before 3pm to order the fried fish cause they won't budge. This is not a spot with one of a kind items you can't get elsewhere. This is not a date spot for if her eyebrows don't melt in the Burbank heat, her hair will surely frizz under those water misters. This is not a full blown breakfast joint. This is not a lunch spot. This is not a place to come after church in your Sundays best. "Mikey, this ain't the kind of place you wanna go to the bathroom in...." This is not a place I'll be coming back to. Your homegirl, Violy P.S. This is a place you might wanna take your side chick to, make her feel you're taking her out in public.

After seeing all the pictures on yelp! I decided to give it a try. Oh boy, do I regret it. The restaurant floor was dirty and there were flies buzzing by. We ordered the chicken wings which were OK. We also ordered mac and cheese and it was unseasoned and dry, not creamy as one would expect mac and cheese to be. It was a blob of cheese mixed with bland boxed pasta. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It was very dry and bland. The only thing that gave it some flavor was the BBQ sauce which tasted like KC masterpiece. My husband's brisket sandwich had the same issues. We will not go back.

Found this little burger joint by the Griffith Park Equestrian Center. After an hour of horseback riding with a friend, I was craving something hearty--Not a Burger Stand was just what I was looking for. We went last Sunday when the World Cup game was on (not a huge fan of soccer, sorry), so we got special treatment from the staff. Our waiter who greeted us upon entering was friendly and very sweet! I'm sure he wanted to stay home and watch the game, but gave his A+ service at work that day. Here's what my friend and I got: -Pulled Pork Burger LOVE! This was just what I was craving. It was so huge that the pulled pork just kept falling out after each bite. The BBQ sauce inside added lots of vibrance and flavor to the burger. It's a big burger, so be prepared. -Mac & Cheese Not a huge fan of the Mac & Cheese. I wasn't able to finish the whole thing, so I took it home, baked it in the oven, and sprinkled parmesan cheese, parsley flakes, and pepper on it. It tasted a lot better than what was once a mediocre dish. -Chili Cheese Fries My friend got this one. It's your regular American fries topped with chili, cheese, and beans! Pretty darn good. Overall, if you're into that whole laid-back, low-key American burger joint thing, I definitely would recommend this place. Saw a random donkey on the way back to the car which was quite memorable...

I've had a couple experiences here, and I so wanted this place to be delicious . Always rooting for that small spot with the big bite but this restaurant unfortunately didn't deliver. So I've has a couple things here and here is my take: Chicken and dumplings - too salty Green beans - too soggy Mac and cheese - first attempt it was soggy, second attempt deeeelicious Breakfast - do not recommend breakfast here... Had three dishes all of which we're overpriced and not very good. Crab cakes - look and taste like frozen patties Pulled pork and brisket - if they think dumping sauce does the trick..., Just a burger - probably most honest thing on the menu. Chicken wings - ok. I'm sorry I just didn't have good experiences here, and to boot it's not very clean.

Always saw my friends stop by here and post the quirky chalk art and finally had the chance to stop by. Food isn't bad but service was really great and friendly. The place looks a little run down but it feels homely and relaxing. I would stop by again if I was in the area.

This is a seriously fabulous, quintessential little local joint the way little local joint's should be. Zero pretense, 100% down home goodness. The owner will do everything he can to make things perfect...and the food is some of the best in town. The lobster roll is the best I've ever had, anywhere in the country. I adore the egg salad, the shrimp boil, even the green beans are perfect. The desserts are to die for and the staff are all friendly and sweet.

Great burgers and corn fritters. Nice find, since we were just at Travel Town and hungry we didn't know where to go. We looked on Yelp, and took a chance. It is the perfect neighborhood spot. I found this GEM thanks to Chris Burrous the guy on Channel 5 News ktla.com/2013/10/20/burr… While they do have a Burger on the menu, it's Not a Burger Stand, it's much more! and while that crab cake looked mighty good in that video clip I opted for some "Q" nothing like smoked meat! Chicken Wings - yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… I think there were (6) wings in the order though I don't remember the price? NO they are NOT Hot Wings and only come in this flavor whatever it may be. They have good flavor though not spicy, they do have an excellent texture and crunch to them yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… and although they are very small they were some of the best wings I've had. Beef Brisket Sandwich ($7.75) yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… Nice amount of meat, tender and smoky flavor, bbq sauce was real nice yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… I'm guessin' house made and the slaw worked well with the sandwich. Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7.00) yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… Nice big pulls or chopped in big pieces either way this sandwich was a Winner, Winner Piggy Dinner yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… well technically it was my lunch but you get the idea, it was damn good! Baked Beans - yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… You just can't have "Q" without beans, all I gotta say is.... MMmmmmm Good! Corn Fritters - yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… Those white specs you see is Salt probably sea salt, what's inside those Golden Nuggets? yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… more golden creamy goodness. Out of all this food the only thing I can gripe about is the Chicken Wings are too small... Like Arnold Schwarzenegger I'LL BE BACK!!!

Love this little out of the way spot. From the facade, one would not expect much from this little restaurant. The food is really good. The corn fritters are exceptional. We share a crab cake and it was quite good. The horseradish potatoes were bland, but the mac & cheese was very tasty. If you're in the Burbank area, I suggest searching this place out...

I was REALLY excited about this place when we first rocked up. Cute little building with all kinds of patrons. Small menu with some interesting items. Their grilled cheese with bacon marmalade is worth a try any day. Seriously tasty. The chilli cheese fries are lack luster, the chilli has no flavor. Each time we have come, it's their SPECIAL that delivers. One day was Chicken and Waffles and the chicken was incredible. Just melt in your mouth, moist and tasty. The other day it was Thanksgiving Dinner and boy oh boy, I would just pay them to cater my Thanksgiving. My friend likes their chicken and dumplings, but it's $10.50 which seems a bit pricey to me. Service is always friendly. I won't come here on my own, but if my friends want to go again I will be ordering whatever their special is because they sure do make it special

Love the feeling inside. Like a BBQ shack. Good service. Very friendly. Definitely would go back to try other items or specials. But, My bread for my pull pork was stale and dry That was a little disappointing. But not the end of the world. I'm sure that's maybe a small % of the time . but their is passion behind the counter.

Went here over the weekend and got the lobster roll special. It was great -- very similar to the kind I used to have back east. Also a big fan of the pulled pork sandwich and pretty much all of the sides. While certainly not a fancy place by any stretch of the imagination, I like coming here because of the friendly service and the quiet atmosphere.

Good food nothing fancy as expected. Funny to see that the 3 star and lower reviews are mostly for the appearance of the place... It's old school no frills place, it's suppose to look like that... It's called charm... good for kids and worth a visit after a train park or zoo outing

Fish and Chips are not the greatest they need help. The Veg Soup was really good. Also they need to pull the dirty seating inside and replace with chairs they sit to hi and not comfortable at all also they have to do something about the flys when i was there I had to fight off some flies.

Awesome staff and awesome food. I love dropping by here for breakfast or lunch and sitting on the patio with my dog. The staff is always prompt to bring her out a bowl of water and some treats. The food is definitely comforting and always comes out promptly. The only downside is that on hot days, the only thing keep you cool is the water misters but this is Burbank, you'll get over it!

Not exactly what I was expecting but overall good place. This is my first time here so can only judge by my initial order so far. Order as follows: Pecan Catfish: I like catfish. But I make out of this world fish so that being said, it was ok. Good texture but not much flavor. It might have been the particular catfish. But not bad. Cornmeal crust was crispy. Pecans seemed more for asthetic (appearance and texture) quality than for taste. Didn't quite understand what the chefs intentions were for those pecans. Almost seems like an after thought that stuck? Walnut and blue cheese salad: Good. Liked the onions and Granny Smith apple balance. Could have cut the onions a tad smaller (think again the size of the onion slices was an aesthetic choice) but overall a good and generous sized salad. Nice flavor. Blue cheese dressing on side was of good quality as far as flavor and consistency. Plenty of blue cheese and walnuts on the salad. I'd get it again. Corn fritters: out of this world!!! Bits of whole kernel corn inside. Soft and saucy inside. Crisp outside. Slightly sweet but not sugary. Far and away the best part of the meal. Will def get again. Atmosphere:meh. Kinda grimy. Not dirty, but stained and not very appealing. Could use a minor overhauling. Smallish place. Maybe twenty seats inside. Don't go for the decor. But on a lovely street and near Griffith park, so that's a big plus. Maybe on a nice day I'd sit outside? Or just order to go. Service: excellent. Only one waiter but he gave everyone his energy and attention with enthusiasm. Kudos! Will return to try some of the other offerings Tip: enter from riverside drive. I came down mariposa in the dark and pulled into the tiny parking lot and realized all the parking slots go the opposite direction. I had to maneuver around considerably to even be able to park. No signs from mariposa entrance to indicate a problem. So just a heads up.

A few months ago, I tried this restaurant after seeing it on Channel 5's Burrous Bites and fell in love with this place. First of all, the area is not filled with retail stuff, but nice homes on horse properties with a nice feel to the community. The staff are ultra friendly and the owner is busy, but has time for small talk. I had the crab cakes which was great, and macaroni and cheese, which I was supposed to bring home for my daughter, but never made it. We heard the chicken and dumplings were excellent, but it is only served after 3:00; oh well, we'll have to come for dinner. Did I say, I liked the community? Down the street is a riding stable and bowling alley, which would be a great way to spend the afternoon before dinner! Chicken & dumplings, here I come!

Totally heartbroken to hear this business has to relocate because the rent is so high. My family and I absolutely love the great food and the awesome, friendly staff. Burgers are great, Thursday night rib night is always fantastic, and what's not to love about the $8 Sunday night dinner specials. Hoping they find a new location soon. We'll go out of our way for NABS!

Food is pretty good here. Service is FANTASTIC! It's a tiny neighborhood place where you can sit outside with your dog and watch the occasional horse and rider go by. The reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is that the owner/chef will absolutely not take requests on your order. I wanted my eggs done well, not runny. I was informed he wouldn't do that so I had to order something else. My kid wanted the biscuits with gravy on the side. My 9-year old didn't want bits of meat in her gravy. NOPE! What is so difficult about putting gravy on the side? There's no such thing as "the customer is always right" here. It's his way or the highway. It's too bad they've lost us as customers. : (

New favorite spot. An old restaurant stand that has been made over into a contemporary comfort food restaurant. Great, very cheap weekend breakfast. Solid lunch options. Satisfying down home dinners. For weekend breakfast, the eggs Benedict are excellent value. Perfectly poached eggs with decent Hollandaise sauce. The potato skins are a sort of Benedict twist with poached eggs atop hollowed out potato skins and Ortega chilis. The French Toast is tasty too - nicely spiced, soft inside and slightly crusty outside. Really delicious. So was the biscuits and gravy, fluffy biscuits topped with dense and flavorful sausage gravy. Satisfying and food coma inducing at the same time. I see some people complaining here that Breakfast is overpriced. I am not sure what they had but We got out of here for around $20 for two with food and coffee - hard to beat that price in Los Angeles. My one lunch here so far, I had the portobello mushroom sandwich - a giant cap with condiments on a bun topped with a barbecue sauce. The sauce was good, but there was way too much of it. Other than that the sandwich hit the spot. Homemade chips were good too, crispy and salty. My friend thought they were a bit overcooked but I really liked them. For dinner, we tried the Lobster Role special - a generous portion of lobster salad spooned into a roll for around $10. Tasty and satisfying - this one let the lobster speak for itself without much sauce - very good. The chicken and dumplings also really hit the spot but was perhaps just a little salty. Desserts have all been excellent, including a good strawberry rhubarb pie, an excellent buttermilk pie, and the big winner - a strawberry rhubarb bread pudding with white chocolate that was just fantastic. My friend, who hates rhubarb, was eagerly stealing bites. Rotating choices so ask what is available for dessert. Reasonable prices ESPECIALLY for the weekend brunch. Not elegant dining but quirky and comfortable. Friendly service. Some outdoor seating. Regular specials - just ask. Occasional promotions for ordering in specific voices - check the chalkboard. Cash or credit accepted. Plenty of free parking in the adjacent lot and on the street. This stand is a winner.

Fantastic place to dine. The staff was extremely friendly, and the owner is totally tuned to the geek spectrum--when I went down a mile to Clockwork Couture afterwards, the Steampunk guys there knew how cool the fellows here were! Their chalkboard ads are simply the best! I had a crab cake burger, and my sister had some chili cheese fries. Not quite the sort of meal I'd have in the Shire, but delightful nonetheless! Prices are great, especially with the special deals they have, and portion size was more than decent. But really, the staff themselves deserve 5 stars!

Still not sure how I feel about this place. It's small, cute, quaint, neighborhood-friendly - I love everything about the small-town, diner-style ambiance (although there is a fine line between "vintage/distressed" and straight-up dirty, like their ripped chairs and sticky tables). But the food has been consistently mediocre. I'm a big fan of pulled pork sandwiches, and I had friends rave about this one, but the meat was dry and flavorless. The sauce helped, but it wasn't tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth good. I wouldn't order it again. Same with sweet potato fries, another one of my favorite foods - the portion size is pretty great for a side order, but they don't have a lot of flavor to them and they're covered in cinnamon. The first time I ordered, it was way too much and completely overpowered the sweet potatoes all together. The second time they were better, but you just never know what you're going to get. I ordered the burger my next time around. There weren't any outdoor tables for my group of six, and the inside was disgustingly, stiflingly hot (what do you expect with summer in the valley), and I just got the sense that the place wasn't that clean. Kitchen looked a little dingy, flies were swarming EVERYWHERE...I just didn't want to sit there and eat a meal. So we took it to go, I ordered a cheeseburger with nothing but ketchup, and when I got back, found it was drowned in some sort of mayo that made it virtually inedible. I want to like the place. I really, really do. Really kind, attentive service, cute neighborhood place, but the food is just not that great. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things, but so far I'm 0/2. If that changes, I'll up my star rating.

Went here with my groupon and I am giving it 4 stars but my husband and daughter would have given it less... I just ordered the right thing.. I had their special which was a cooked pot of corn, shrimp, potato and sausage with the right amount of seasoning (tasted like old bay?) it was delicious and didn't leave my stomach heavy and was healthy. My husband ordered the brisket and my daughter ordered the pulled pork... Huge serving size (my daughter could barley get her mouth around it) That's not a complaint good sized servings! But my husband said his sandwich was ok and I think it sat because it wasn't hot. Fries were crisp and yummy and the Mac and cheese was cheesy and delicious

Wow...some of these reviewers are so catty...sitting behind the comfort of their computer screen *meow* you high maintenance "foodies". I'm sorry...but this place has great quality comfort food. ANY restaurant that runs out of food, ELATES me, because I know my food is freshly made. Their service is incredible. The nicest staff, who genuinely seems to love their jobs and take pride in their work. The crab cake...is to die for because its made by Maryland natives! Give credit where credit is do. Give criticism if needed...don't just moan about getting sweaty during the summer scorcher. Yelp does affect the lively-hood of these lovely people.

With a name like this, the burger-lover in me was compelled to see if they actually had a burger. The charming look of the restaurant was intriguing too since it's in a regular house and located in the middle of a neighborhood. After I found out that they in fact did serve burgers, all systems were go! ----The Food---- 7 Oz Beef Cheeseburger ($5.75)- Just from the appearance and feel of the burger, I knew it wasn't the best quality. Heck, I saw a plastic tube of beef being carried to the cozy kitchen after I ordered, so I wasn't expecting a gourmet burger from the start. When biting into the burger, a lot of things were wrong with it. First, I didn't like the brioche bun. Brioche buns are supposed to be light and eggy, but this was unusually chewy/hard. Second, the beef patty had a lot of grill marks on it which is a sign that its been flipped too many times. This compromised the juiciness making each bite very dry. It was seasoned well with salt though. The cheese should be cut thicker as they use a mild tasting cheddar too. Thirdly, the proportion of the burgers were off--The bun was oversized and made the patty look really tiny. Overall, I'd give this burger 2 stars. Pulled Pork Sandwich ($6.75)- Any disappointment I had with the burger was barbecued away after eating this tasty, big sandwich! It was like a tale of polar opposites. The pulled pork was rich and tender--almost as good as Bludso's which surprised me. Mac N Cheese ($4.50)- Creamy and thick with sweet/salty taste. Good! House Salad ($5.00)- Nice size, but average. Fries- Seemed to be frozen bag quality, but I enjoyed it. ---- Conclusion: Maybe the title of the restaurant isn't a ploy, but a warning, after all. Don't come here for the burgers. But I do recommend the Pork Sandwich. The greatest thing about this establishment though is the service, home-style feel, affordability, and variety of options on the menu. Been here twice now, and would be happy to come back and try their eggs Benedict or brisket. Extra Notes: -Accepts credit card -They have fun daily discounts-- if I ordered like a zombie, I'd get 10% off! -Small place with seating indoors and out -Dainty feeling decor--cute -Parking lot available, but tiny -Restroom located in back of house--could be cleaner

Been here a few times and pretty much liked the breakfast- not fantastic but it's not too crowded and you can sit outside. Today breakfast was so over cooked, I think you should be able to use a fork but bacon was incinerated, even after asking for it to be replaced it was so crispy it turns to dust. Iwaitress tells cook "yeah, not crispy at all " like I'm being unreasonable. Over easy eggs almost cooked hard and "home fries" were charred, no fork there either. Also they brought toast first, few minute slated the over cooked potatoes and 5 minutes later the eggs and bacon. So unless you like to eat things in that order... Guy next to us got toast after they took his empty plate away and waitress didn't mention it, just asked if he wanted anything else and brought his check. Also didn't mention my uneaten, replacement bacon. She really didn't seem to care. Only good thing was the bus boy, he's always quick with drinks and clearing played. I posted photos but don't see how to add them

This is one solid make-you-feel-good-home-cooked-meal kind of joint! They have good music playing in the place, and seating so close to the kitchen you can actually watch your meal hit the griddle. If you didn't know, that's an awfully rare combination these days! As an old South Floridian turned Burbank local, my advice is "Stay for dessert and ask about the bacon marmalade." Yes, I said bacon marmalade.

Sunday Lunch Hit the Spot Another great find thanks to Groupon. Had the following: -Chicken and Dumplings -Pulled Pork with MacNCheese Both plates were tasty and fresh. The Pulled Pork was my favorite. Both dishes were the perfect size and did not leave me in a food coma like many BBQ/similar restaurants do. I like the limited menu of comfort food, daily specials, and outside seating option. Will come back again. Pictures of the meal have been added for your visual pleasures.

I got to Not Another Burger Stand at 7pm on Saturday, a few tables outside, 2 patrons inside, not busy at all. Someone even placed a phone order and I heard the cook/employee say it'd only be 5 minutes. Another couple was browsing the menu, deciding if they should stay. Waitress tells me to sit wherever. I do and the other couple grabs a table moments later. I sit there for several minutes, no acknowledgement from the waitress or anyone else. I think the waitress' name was Sue. She looked like she was in high school; acted like it too. I can't be sure of her name since she never actually served me. I only think this is her name because "Sue's" friends walked in after I sat down, grabbed a table directly across from me, and proceeded to wave at Sue, talking to her while she was in the kitchen, etc. Eventually the other couple got up and left. Sue was still bringing orders out to other tables so I didn't think anything of it. But then when she came back in she went to her friends' table and started talking with them and asking what they wanted, completely ignoring me even though I came in first. I got up and left too.

I've ordered a few items to go and was quite happy with them. I decided to return and eat in, talk about a horrible experience. The host was friendly but the server took 15 minutes to take our order, it took an eternity for our food to arrive. When it did arrive, it was burnt and disgusting. I complained to the server and all he said was it wasn't his fault because it was busy. I will not be returning!

Sunday brunch w/ my two girlfriends in this cute little neighborhood place. This is NOT super trendy like Alcove In Los Feliz or Aroma in Studio City, it's way more low-key than that. It looks like the equivalent of a dive bar for brunch/breakfast and for that I love it. The inside, though, is super cute and decorated, and someone did a great job designing their menus. Entrees (I.e. Chicken and dumplings) not served until 3pm. Breakfast prices range $4-7. Can you believe it? I couldn't. A breakfast place that doesn't try to rip you off? For example, my breakfast of 2 eggs, 2 strips of thick bacon, and toast was $4. My girlfriend and I split an order of sweet potato fries (which tasted like they had sliced the sweet potatoes right there in the kitchen) and my total breakfast incl. tax and tip was $8. Unheard of. This isn't my most favorite breakfast place but I can see it soon becoming a breakfast staple...somewhere to go when you want to go out and don't want to cook, meet up with friends, but not somewhere shmancy and expensive. Love it and will be back.

I came in because I wanted a regular cesar salad and some sweet potato fries and wow the sweet potato fries are the most flavorful I've ever had. Plus the mustard dressing it comes with is so deliscious! The cesar salad is great too. The place is nezzled in the cutest neighborhood with white picket fences. The girl that took my order was so sweet. Great vibes at this place. I'm for sure coming back for more :)

First time here. Stopped in with my family because we were in the area. Originally ordered the shrimp and grits, but was disappointed to find the grits were cooked with cheese. Being lactose intolerant, this was truly disappointing. However, I got a taste after licking my fork, and it was better than it looked. The waiter was very understanding of my situation, and took it back with no questions asked. I ordered a good ol' burger, and was NOT disappointed again. Same type of bun as Umami Burger, but the beef was better! Everyone enjoyed their food, and the service was outstanding. Next time I'm in the area, I know where I'm having lunch.

I have been to this place a couple of times. The first time was on a hot day. Apart from the heat, the pulled pork sandwich was amazing. The pork was juicy and the sauce did not overpower the pork. The second time around I had the 7 oz burger. This is as classic as a hamburger can come. The burger was cooked just right. The fries were good as well. They are slightly crispy and come to the table piping hot. The staff here is pretty good. They come check on you often but not to crazy like you feel like they are hounding you. All in all, this is a pretty good place for American cuisine.

I was craving for a burger and found this place on yelp. I love small hole-in-the-wall-type places and was really excited to try it out. The first thing I liked about them is the great customer service. I arrived around 5:30pm on a Sunday and was immediately impressed by the staff - I was met at the door and welcomed even before I stepped into the place. They were very attentive and answered all my questions. The second thing I liked was that they had a one-page menu - not too complicated and made it easier to make a decision. I ordered a medium burger with a side of corn fritters, and a Dr. Pepper. They definitely make the food to order so there was some wait time involved but the very nice staff made sure I never ran out of Dr. Pepper. They seem to have a loyal following as most of the people who were coming or going were on first-name basis with the staff, and some even had their regular beverages served to them before they ordered. I thought that certainly, a place with a loyal customer base would be good. And certainly, I enjoyed the corn fritters which were perfect bite-sized pieces of sweet-and-salty. The burger, however, was a big let-down: The dryness of the bun was not due to toasting - it was definitely stale. Even adding ketchup didn't help. They also used raw sweet yellow onions instead of the flavorful red. Come on, now... a proper burger requires red onions. Finally, I decided to salvage my meal and freed the meat from the bun and the yellow onions, only to discover a dried out overcooked patty. It was a disaster of a burger. I asked for my corn fritters to go and headed to the nearest fastfood joint to get my burger fix. I really wanted to love this place. Everything seemed right... until the burger. Still, I plan on going back to try their brunch, hoping that the morning chef is better than the dinner chef. Wish me luck!

My husband and I only discovered this little neighborhood gem a few months back. Since then, we frequent it as often as possible. We're always welcomed warmly by the staff, and the food is always delicious! My personal favorite is the corn fritters... but the crab cake is a close runner up. To illustrate how lovely this place is, my husband and I made the two mile walk there from our home only to realize that we forgot our cash back home. The staff recognized us from our previous visits, fed us, and told us to come back in the next few days to pay off the debt. Now, I don't write Yelp reviews often, but that kind of neighborliness is something you don't often find in Los Angeles. In short, go and enjoy the corn fritters, and return for the amazing service. Highly recommend.

This is a local gem of an establishment. I love the food at this unassuming neighborhood joint. Service is friendly and the owner will often be the one bringing the food to you. My favorites are the beer chili and the smoked hot wings. So good. I go here when I work nearby and actually miss the food when I'm not. Go figure. And one more thing... don't eat all my smoked chicken wings or I'll be mad.

The BEST grilled cheese; DON'T FORGET THE BACON MARMALADE!!!!; I have ever had!!!! The French fries with a side of aioli mayo ... OMG!!!! ANYTHING B.B.Q.'d; as Matt's B.B.Q. sauce is out of this world!!!! Never miss the "Specials" or Sunday Supper; As Sunday's Supper is a whopping $8.00 and ALWAYS delivers!!!! And don't get me started on the desserts!!!! I am NOT a dessert person per-say; but what this man can do to a bread pudding will bring tears of Joy to your eyes!!!

I can see people digging this spot as a cozy, friendly place but the food wasn't worth the stomach ache. Friendly service. The chef was a great guy. The best food you will EVER eat. The menu is ever changing. The food is spectacular. The staff is super friendly. Its like going to your friends house for dinner, if that friend was an amazing and creative chef. Shrimp boil is super tasty, lobster roll Fridays, $8 dinner Sundays, rib night, I would eat here every night if I could. The desserts will make you drool. Even if you don't think you could make room for dessert, YOU WILL. Follow them on Facebook or sign up for their newsletter to get the daily specials and want to make your mouth water just by reading them. Im going tonight and I am super excited. They also do a killer brunch on the weekends and dogs are allowed on the patio outside and they even bring bowls of water for your furry friends!

I'm just not getting why this little place is sustaining the 4 star rating. The food ought have some flair to compensate for the very pedestrian decor. I had a very bare bones crab burger and visitors some uninspired fish tacos. The exterior furniture was way past its glory days and the inside was suffering from a bum extractor fan. Only bright spots were the smiley attentive servers. Next!

Not a Burger Stand is a great little restaurant with awesome American food. The burgers are grand, the specials (like BBQ ribs) are worth it to drive out for, and the service is excellent. NABS has a very family style feel, which helps when you're looking for a warm atmosphere to eat some good French toast -- and, for the record, at only $5 too, their French toast is amazing. See, I'm a breakfast type of guy, and their breakfast has me all giddy because it tastes spectacular. I'm no expert, since I've yet to try a lot of other things on the menu... but their breakfast burritos are probably some of the best in town. I'm on a hunt to find the BEST breakfast burrito in the area, and so far this is one of the top contenders without a doubt. I think the only problem we really had with NABS was that the AC was freezing cold, but the food was piping hot so that helped. It's also worthy of note that they only serve breakfast on Saturday/Sunday. In any case, this is clearly a place deserving of our business because they know how to make good food... and that's really all it takes. Just try it, I dare you.

I can't say enough good things about such a small place. The service was great and everyone there had such a pleasant attitude, friendly and everyone chit chats around. The food exceeded my expectations by far, with the lobster roll & corn fritters both so good you can't stop popping them. I will be back without a doubt - to the establishment, keep doing what your doing it works!

I recently got a job really close by, and this is my go to place for lunch. It's walking distance from the office and it's in a quiet area surrounded by houses and horses. Emphasis on the horses. On any given day, you may see horses walking along side the restaurant, which could be really nice if you're into that. The spontaneous neighing tends to startle me, but it's fun sometimes. The restaurant itself is really small, quaint, and basically looks on the inside the way you think it would from looking at the outside. I've only been served by the woman who works mornings on weekdays. She's really nice and comes often enough. The food is so good though, hence the four stars. It's great hang over food. Really hearty (and by that I mean terrible for your heart), but it hits the spot. I've tried the pulled pork, cheeseburger, turkey melt, corn fritters, and egg sandwich. The only thing I was indifferent about were the corn fritters. They might just not be my thing. I totally recommend the food if you are looking for a quick, hearty, delicous bite. Also as was noted by someone else, there are a lot of flies sometimes, but it hasn't bothered me too much. It's not fancy, but the food is good and you should leave a happy camper.

The food was great but the place is so run down that I found it unappetizing. The fabric cushions on all of their seats were disgustingly dirty and frayed. I would not have stayed for lunch if my friend hadn't brought me and I thought I would offend him if I suggested we leave. I will not go back because cleanliness is the most important thing for me in a restaurant. Also, the owner was there as per the waiter's comment when my friend asked about why a dish wasn't served before three o'clock. The owner was two tables over and did not engage us or even acknowledge us or our question. It seemed obvious he does not give a flying leap about customer service or friendliness.

We have been talking about coming here for a while now and finally went last night. It was not disappointing! I ordered a vanilla shake, garden salad, and the beef brisket entree with Mac and cheese. Vanilla shake was good. It wasn't a thick shake like in n out but it was still good. Garden salad was decent and even had some red bell peppers in it along with tomato, cheese and onion. The beef brisket was really good. It just fell apart I tried to eat it and had a very good BBQ sauce on it. As all the reviews had said the Mac and cheese was awesome! My bf ordered a chocolate malt, a side of the corn fritters, and the special of the night which was Coco puffs fried chicken on French toast with broccoli and house potatoes. He loved his chocolate malt and those corn fritters are so good. The special was crazy good! Great blend of flavors and the perfect crunch. The potatoes were good and so was the broccoli. Our server was awesome! Very friendly and great with suggestions. We ate outside and the only negative thing I in countered were little bugs that kept landing on me and the table. It was a perfect warm night to sit outside though.

Don't get the crab cakes. Brown, canned like meat entirely throughout. The place has heart though.

The food was not to good. The place needs a good cleaning. My daughter had the pulled pork sandwich, I had there wings. Won't be going there again. The people are cool, but the food not up to par.

I returned to this New England style stand after attending a film industry seminar in Burbank. It had been raining. So, naturally, I opted to sit inside. Since my last review, I was hoping that some changes would have been made. I only found one, a new lock for the bathroom door where previously there had been none, just a sign instructing patrons to "knock first." The small interior is still just as dirty and shabby as ever, so, if you go, go on a sunny day and sit outside. It's cleaner. The long booth seat lining the wall is particularly disgusting. The chair I sat in was very rickety. I was afraid to move it for fear it would break. It was nice to be in out of the cold, but, evidently, the flies thought so, too, and I spent much of my time there warding them off of me and my food. When the people at the neighboring tables left, I made a point of noticing how the tables were cleaned. I am sad to report, not very well and neither was the floor. In fact, the floor, which was littered with straw wrappers and fries, was left for later. I had to use the bathroom, which you reach by going outside and around the back. The "potty" floor was wet, puddled and covered with cardboard for patrons to step on. A drip hit my head. When I went to wash my hands, I looked up, and, over the john, was a dripping leak in the ceiling. Omg, get it together, guys, please. I really like your food, but these things make it rather unappetizing to eat there. I would have left without eating had I not been so hungry or known how good your food really is in spite of everything. However, the next time, if I cannot eat outside, I will just keep on going. I would really love to give you four stars the next time. It makes me very sad to report these things, since the food is so very, very good as are the prices and the service by such nice and friendly people. Surprisingly, the place has an A rating, and the kitchen is clean, but the rest, not so much. Do try it, but, if you eat there, eat outside or get it to go.

Good food. The problem is the many yummy things you see on Yelp are not served everyday, and a lot of the items on the menu don't get served until 3 pm.

First timer.... hot wings over cooked and stale (from over cooking), salad greens were not chopped up, big ol' pieces I had to cut myself, all the chicken dishes were over salted...and I'm a salt lover but these dishes were toooooo salty. Blonde female server was very friendly, so was the male host. Probably won't be back though.... thank you.

I came here for brunch so it really wasn't a burger stand. It's got a nice little patio and its dog friendly so if you're into that sort of thing (dogs and sunshine) you should check it out. Got the breakfast burrito which was HUGE. Even bigger than the capital letters can convey. Inside was the usual stuff with eggs, meat, potatoes. Outside you had some pico, sour cream and a little guacamole (which is nothing to write home about). All in all, too much egg, too much bland, and I can make it better.

Place really needs an upgrade in terms of the interior. I felt uncomfortable eating there - hot, doesn't smell particularly nice, dingy look & feel. Food was just ok in my opinion. Would easily choose to spend a few more dollars for a more comfortable environment.

I never tried this place, so i decided to come here with a groupon. They'll charge 18% gratuity if you come in a large group or if you're going to use a Groupon, which I find completely ridiculous because the service absolutely sucked. I'm a generous tipper if the service is good, but to require 18% gratuity and give some of the slowest service to a customer is totally unacceptable!! Food: 3 stars*** 1) Pulled pork Sandwich - pulled pork is supposed to be pulled into small chunks, but the pieces are much bigger, which provides a less appealing texture. 2) Tip tip Sandwich - decent. nothing to rave about. yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… 3) Sweet potato fries - I loved the sweet potato fries here. They were so addicting! It's sad that the highlight of my experience here were these fries. I think they put a litle bit on cinnamon on the fries. yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… 4) Chili cheese fries consisted of very beany chili without enough chili and cheese that tasted like old warm cheese. yelp.com/biz_photos/not-… Service: 1 Star* This was some of the slowest service I have ever received at a restaurant. It took over 15 minutes for a server to even greet us and about 7 minutes to even drop off some water. Our food came out 30 minutes later and it was mediocre at best. We already committed enough time to get our food, so I decided to walk up to the counter to quickly take care of the bill, because I most likely would have had to wait even longer to get the check.

Stopped in last night for a quick bite before an event at Disney. Prime dinner time and there was only one other occupied table so I was a bit leery. The place looks charming and quirky-cool and the service was prompt and friendly. Just got burgers and fries and they were very good, though the bread was a bit too thick and tough. Weird thing though... waiting for them to cook apparently the fan in the kitchen died and the place slowly filled with greasy smoke. Workers just took it in stride and apologized as though they were used to it. Left me with the overall impression that the place probably wasn't as spotlessly clean as it could be, and could probably be a bit more buttoned up. Nevertheless, I'd give it another shot. Didn't have time for dessert and they were promoting a strawberry rhubarb pie I'd like to try.

I came here for a groupon and I will never come back. I didn't think the food was good at all. I don't know what I ordered or what I ate. Their customer service was good and is the only reason I give them 2 stars.

Not a Burger Stand, you have stolen my BBQ heart away. I'm pretty serious when it comes to BBQ - it's my most favorite kind of food to have and it's hard to come by decent (not even good) BBQ in the greater Los Angeles area. I think it's safe to say I've found my go-to place for BBQ, and I don't want to hear anyone comparing this place to the BBQ you get at a chain restaurant or even Lucille's BBQ. Like others, my relationship with Not a Burger Stand started because of an impulsive decision to purchase a Groupon deal. I put it off until the Friday before it was about to expire, and I am regretting how many meals I've had with BBQ since then. I actually got my whole office to order BBQ with me and we had the brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, 7oz burger, and smoked wings. I don't see smoked wings on menus too often, so I'm glad I had a chance to try them here. You can definitely taste the smoke but it's the tangy-ness that really sets it apart from other smoked wings. Delicious! The highlight of my meal was the brisket sandwich. Usually, I'll opt for pulled pork but two of my colleagues ordered that so I wanted to be different. BEST DECISION EVER. I'm not one of those that cuts out the fat from the steak (unless it looks disgusting), and you could sure taste that yumminess of the brisket with a little fat trimming. And they really pack a lot of meat between two pieces of bread. I also swear that there is some deliciousness going on the bread too. It's lightly grilled and I suspect there is some butter at play.. yum yum yum! My colleagues really liked their pulled pork sandwiches, and even the burger as well! I would recommend getting some bbq sauce on the side if you really like it drenched in sauce. In fact, my colleagues and I were so taken with Not a Burger Stand that we're considering visiting twice a month for bbq =p

I read all the reviews, seen the pics, so thought I'd try it for myself. I LIKE THIS PLACE !!! Not that far from the Burbank Equestrian Center & major freeways Pulled Pork Sandwich was great; had good flavor, was seasoned & done perfectly. Honestly could have shared the fries, as there were plenty (in my opinion). Matt was great to talk to & knows how to get down on some real good food; good for the tummy & good for the soul :)

I ordered the pork shoulder - it was delicious! Very tender and the sauce is just the right amount of spicy. The baked beans were also magnificent with lots of bacon - can't have enough bacon! Great, friendly service. We'll be back!

(Dined 05/18/13 SA @ 2:30pm): Let's just call it the Savory Sandwich Shack instead! I've had a bad habit lately of using my daily deal offers at the very last minute, and my meal at Not A Burger Stand was no exception...but this time it worked out in my favor! A buddy and I made plans to watch "Iron Man 3" at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences so I recommended that we tried this place so I could use my Groupon ($20.00 of food/drinks for $10.00), and it was relatively close to the theater. It was both of our first time here (it's that the whole point of coupons and all of these daily deals!?) so of course we had to try a full range of menu items. Plus, both of us starved for this lunch so we quickly reviewed the menu and order as such: Diet Coke (for him) and Barq's Root Beer (for me) ($2.25 ea.) - can never go wrong with refillable 12-oz. glasses! Please go easy on the ice next time. Smoked Hot Wings ($5.25) - a bit on the small size although you got about 8 pieces and would've liked if they were hotter. They weren't the usual fried kind, rather cooked almost adobo-style so I was able to literally suck the soft and moist meat right off the bones which I liked! I sparingly used the dipping sauce since I liked my hot wings straight! yelp.com/user_local_phot… Sweet Potato Fries with House Honey Mustard ($3.75 ea.) - yeah, these were so good we placed two orders! So sweet with the right amount of crunchiness, and the dipping sauce was good and light but not necessary. Why retard the nice flavor of these things? I swore I tasted cinnamon! yelp.com/user_local_phot… Mac and Cheese ($3.50 ea.) - when there's two mac & cheese lovers at the table, we had to get our own. The hit for me was the lightly burnt top, but the rest was fantastic creamy goodness crammed into a small container. This was no Kraft macaroni & cheese. What they needed to do was to include a larger portion as an entrée, maybe a sandwich...or both! yelp.com/user_local_phot… Pulled Pork Sandwich ($6.75) - this piggy-piggy was gigantic and called for multiple napkins to keep your face and clothes clean. I had to smash it down so I could wrap my mouth around it. There was a lot of meat and the BBQ sauce was running everywhere. I wished the pork was more finely shredded/pulled vs. the amount of chunks I had. Regardless, the meat was soft and collapsed in your mouth...once you fit it in there! yelp.com/user_local_phot… Beef Brisket Sandwich ($7.25) - I didn't try this but my buddy threw it down, so I took that as a yummy vote. The service was great as we were seated immediately (helped that we were the only ones when we got there). Menus and glasses of water were given and they were ready to offer any suggestions or take our order. Our drinks and food came out promptly and evenly spaced out. They checked on us periodically, cleared empty dishes and filled our drink glasses. Once done, the check was delivered promptly. It was a small operation, so if you paid with a credit card, it's swiped with a smartphone reader and your receipt emailed or texted to you - the wave of the future. Parking was minimal since their own lot had only about 7 spots. Otherwise, free street parking was plentiful in the surrounding area. Just be mindful of the posted signs. Overall, Not A Burger Stand was a nice find and I appreciated the offer through Groupon. I saw this place as a nice neighborhood hangout to grab a quick bite. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill with 18% gratuity automatically included was around $48.00 before discount), but well worth it. Be warned: alcohol of any kind isn't served here and the menu is a bit limited. The atmosphere, décor, and ambience was like a make-shift shack in the middle of nowhere with worn-out benchseats and a couple small tables and chairs. There was some outside seating in a front patio area. Think rustic with a dash of homeliness, and the various salt & pepper shakers were cute. We sat at a small table up against a wall that separated us from the open kitchen. Although I saw a couple of small posters hung on the walls, I didn't notice any TVs. The attire was totally casual so I would be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. And they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

Beware false advertising! Me and a couple of friends drove past this spot, thought it looked good, and doubled back to have lunch. Out front, we were greeted by a sign sporting an image of the late great Macho Man Randy Savage along with a tender offer: order in Macho's voice and get 10% off your bill, or if you bodyslam one of your friends you both eat free. A bodyslam for free eats? Sign me up! I'm strong, and my buddy Buz is a little feller, so we immediately inquired about this offer to our server, who then promptly laughed and acted like we weren't supposed to call their bluff. She said we'd get the 10% off - we were all talking like Macho Man to begin with - but no bodyslam deal? Weak. Why promote it if you aren't going to honor it? Anyway, after that disappointment we ordered. I was curious about the crab cake sandwich, and when I asked the waitress she said the owner was from Maryland. Sold. Those people know crab. Also got a side of horseradish mashed potatoes with it. The crab cake sandwich was good. In fact, the crab cake was so good that I jettisoned the bun and innards, exposing the perfectly cooked crab cake for immediate consumption. This dish should really just be two crab cakes sans buns or anything else. I hate having good flavors hidden. The horseradish mashed potatoes were a bit of a letdown. Imagine regular mashed potatoes, then add a liberal amount of horseradish. Kinda boring, no? They should've used red potatoes and left in some bits of skin along with some hearty potato chunks, maybe add a little seasoning to blend in the horseradish better. It was good, but it could have been great.

Wish I could give a rating on the food but I didn't get a chance. I moved down the street from this place and it looked pretty cool. Every time I drove by it had a decent crowd. Finally on a Saturday I was free... I pulled into the parking lot at 3:45 pm. The parking lot is very small and was full. I was waiting for a spot parallel to the windows where two workers were facing me, possibly doing prep work. They noticed me waiting. After about 2 minutes, a couple came out and got in their car. As I was about to pull in to the spot, one employee looked at me then changed the sign from OPEN to CLOSED and went back to work. The hours for Saturday say open til 9pm so I have no idea why he did this. I guess they didn't want my business. It's too bad to because I'm very loyal. If I find a place I like, I go back often. I definitely won't be back...Luckily Burbank has many other options.

I came across this place through groupon, I've never been here before and I had low expectations although the reviewes were ok. I came here for breakfast and had the biscuits and gravy and Acambaro skins. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was soo delicious and VERY reasonably priced. The Acambaro skins was as follows: a poached egg topped with hollandaise sauce on top of a medium thin slice of ham and that was on top of the potatoes skin X-2 and a side of home made potato chips-$8. The biscuits and gravy order came with 2-biscuits (4-pieces total) , country sausage gravy and a side of home fries-$4. It is a very small, homey place and I have no complaints about the food or service, I defiantly look forward to coming back. Please check it out and review to keep small businesses open. HAPPY EATING!

A true gem! Such personality, and the food is unique and delicious. The owner/chef came out to chat, and gave our pup a treat. Hands down, my favorite place to eat in the valley!

The food is good and the company is friendly. However, the portions are WAY to small when compared to the price. It is embarrassing and insulting to my stomach. This is a hole in the wall restaurant that needs to focus on maintaining the local client base. There are plenty of "fine dining" or other similar types of restaurants in Burbank that offer quality small portions that dig deep in your pocket. This isn't one of those places. The location is hidden, the venue is old, and the quality is cheap. So here is my advice: talk to Dan Farr about the goal of serving up a large portion to someone's mouth.

Today was my first time trying this little humble place. The owner is a regular customer at my Starbucks, so we know him well. I tried the burro. It was boss. Pico de gallo, was fantastic...and I hate pico de gallo but I definitely make a exception here. Nice place to chill. Great service! Looking forward to try more dishes here.

Food was good, but chef is a pain! He won't do any modifications to your dish! I just wanted hollandaise sauce on the side instead of all over my eggs Benedict! I think that's absurd! They need a new chef!

Wow this place really really is a whole in the wall.....how they got an A restaurant rating is beyond me....the cloth seats were disgusting......everything was disgusting...staff was very cool...food was ok at best.

There is plenty to love about this place. The menu is simple comfort food at an affordable price. We ordered macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries, french onion soup, and brisket sandwiches. The macaroni and cheese was excellent. It was creamy, cheesy, and traditional. The sweet potato fries were crispy. The dipping sauce was the perfect compliment. The brisket was a little fatty but otherwise perfectly cooked. The barbecue sauce was tangy and not too sweet. The waitstaff was attentive but not overbearing. The only drawback is the space. The restaurant is small with limited inside seating. However, there is outside seating if weather allows. Otherwise, this place is worth the minor inconvenience.

What a great place. I could eat in a place like this every day. We found this place via a Groupon, and I think it's the best place we've found that way. It's nestled in a quiet, pretty neighborhood away from other restaurants, which is actually nice since most of their seating is outdoors. We saw no less than 3 people ride past on horseback. It is possibly the most adorable location I've ever eaten food in. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, and answered all of our questions. As I usually do with new places I'm trying, I asked our server to bring me the best thing on the menu, and to not even tell me what it was. I was lucky enough to be served a phenomenal steak sandwich served over grilled Texas toast with pickles, grilled onions and bleu cheese dressing. It was the most tender steak I've had on a steak sandwich. We also had a steamed artichoke with a great garlic mayo dip. My wife got a cajun chicken sanwich that was great. They have home made potato chips that make the crunchiest store bought chips look like wet tissue. And the sweet potato fries were coated in cinnamon, and probably the best I've ever had. We took some desserts to go as well; a scalded milk cake and an egg nog pie. It was very obvious that both were made from scratch in house. Who makes pie crust from scratch in restaurants anymore? So awesome. I realize that Yelp reviews rarely contain this much detail about the food, but I seriously can't shut up about this place. Great, great, great.

This is a nice little spot that has a very friendly down home feel. Each table has different salt and pepper shakers which adds to the feeling of home. We like to bring our dog and sit outside. On the weekends they are lots of people biking and horseback riding along Riverside. They are a small shop, so when they run out of something it's gone. Very nice local place.

I bought a $20 deal for $12 from Groupon after reading good reviews from YELP. Sadly, I have to give this place a 2 stars, because none of the food we ordered was that great. We ordered a brisket sandwich, fish & chips and a side salad. The brisket sandwich came with coleslaw. The bun was burnt, the coleslaw was okay. Fish and chips was very disappointing, it tasted like a frozen store bought fish. It tasted like card board, the fries were mediocre. The side slaw wasn't that fantastic either. They definitely do a lot of shortcut. The only good thing I could say is the server was very friendly and attentive. Sorry, I don't think I will be going back to this place again.

10 Things You Need to Know About "Not a Burger Stand" 1. They *do* have burgers, and extremely good ones at that. They were rated in the top three locally, not that long ago. Matt Peek is very picky about the quality of his ingredients, so you'll be happy with the burgers he makes. Often, there's a special burger creation for those of you who love to experiment! 2. This is NOT 'fast food..' If you want fast food, get your butt to McD's. This is VERY GOOD food, made from scratch and it's a place where you kick back and relax a little before you're fed. It's a great place for lunch, but if you're only allowing yourself 30 minutes to drive there, order and eat, you won't be happy. It's simply not set up for making your food wishes appear immediately. 3. It's a very homey place. You might think it's a dive, and granted sometimes it can seem that way, but let me tell you that it has always maintained an A rating, the owner washes his hands even more than I do (and I am EXTREMELY OCD about that), and food surfaces are kept IMPECCABLY clean. Matt knows his place is in the Burbank "Rancho District," which means there are flies in that entire section of town, but he still keeps his place very, VERY clean. 4. The soups there are so good they're out of this world! They almost always have a French onion soup, but WOW when you can get something either Matt or Arturo made! DAMN! I'm talkin' about Cream of Crab, Veggie Tortilla, Spinach Egg-Drop, Curry Corn Chowder and many more. The watermelon gazpacho they had a few times over the summer was amazing! 5. Do you have a special meal in mind for a birthday celebration? They can make it happen! I wanted my fantastic bro-in-law to be able to enjoy braised lamb shanks for his birthday. I'm not always the best cook in the world. I called Matt and we talked about it, and he made it happen! It was a *gorgeous* meal and the flavors were outstanding, and my bro-in-law left very full and very happy! 6. They DO cater! Don't be fooled by the small size of this place. It's like the Tardis in Dr. Who -- Matt can make that tiny galley kitchen perform like it's Kitchen Stadium on "Iron Chef America"! They easily catered a 50-person backyard BBQ for "Flo" from the Progressive commercials, and they will treat YOU like a celeb as well, when they cater your event. 7. Are you Vegetarian? Are you allergic to something? I don't eat red meat, and I'm deathly allergic to iodine and shellfish. Not a Burger Stand is one of the VERY FEW places that I feel safe when I eat, because Matt is *extremely* careful about making sure there is ZERO cross-contamination. Lacto-ovo Vegetarians, you will be pleased to know you will NEVER find anything from cows, pigs, poultry or fish in your meals AND you can ask and get HONEST answers about what is in each dish, before you order it. 8. Damn! The food is SO FRICKEN TASTY!!! Chicken and dumplings, tri-tip roast, Portobello mushroom sandwiches, beautiful roasted chicken, fresh salads (the blue cheese and walnut is my favorite!), Chef's Specials like gnocchi with pumpkin sauce, cakes and pies that Matt makes himself (nutmeg cake, Smith Island cake, etc), bread pudding, cookies -- you will not go away hungry from this place. Since he's a Baltimore guy, he KNOWS his way around seafood, so be sure to order shrimp and grits or the crab cakes (which have lumps of sweet crab in them and only enough 'filler' to hold the crab together). 9. The place is kid-friendly, so BRING 'EM! It's also dog-friendly (at the outside tables along Mariposa and Riverside), so bring Phideaux along as well. 10. They serve breakfast/brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, starting at 8:30 a.m., and I can assure you it's worth dragging your hung-over or exhausted backside out of bed, for the likes of The Arturo Burro (a phenomenal breakfast burrito, large enough to share), French Toast, and the finest eggs Benedict in L.A.County. I *love* this place...and so will you. :)

Came here after my brother told me about Chris Burros, KTLA News raved about it. The food is delicious. I had the huevos rancheros. My sister had the crab cake sandwich and my brother had the breakfast burritos. We shared the cheese fries. Service was good. We came for breakfast, but we'll definitely come back after 3:30pm for chicken and dumplings.

Get the Sweet-Potato Fries (3.5 stars) -Yummy! I remember riding my bike through the neighborhood and seeing this place during last week's LA Chinatown Firecracker 30 mile bike event ... We came here for lunch today and I really loved the sweet potato fries. I also got the french onion soup - really good and cheesy, and not too salty. We both got the bbq pulled pork sandwich, which I found dry, but loved the fries. Hmm, is it worth driving back for a second try, maybe I'll get the burger next time.

SUCH an improvement over the old cafe that was here. This really felt like a little mom and pop place in the South (but with better design sense.) They're still getting their feet as they get up and running, but the servers were super nice even if they didn't have everything on their menu. Got to try the Artichoke, Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Sweet Potato Fires. The Pulled Pork was the best of the three. Really moist meat, lots of BBQ sauce and messy as all get out. I can't wait to come back for Brunch or for the Entrees (Mostly Sandwiches, Apps and Salads for lunch, entrees like the Chicken and Dumplings, are served after 3pm) Super cute, good food, Give it try!

This new shack on the corner replaces the vastly overpriced Riverside Cafe and offers a brand new menu, as well as updated decor. This wasn't too hard to accomplish as the previous restaurant had taken on the look of a refugee camp. The owner, Matt Peek, describes the menu as, "a hearty mix of comfort foods with a southern slant". See Photo for teaser menu. Located a block from the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and in a residential neighborhood, it is low key and quiet. Dog friendly and located on a prime bicycle path it will more than likely (too early to know for sure) be popular with bicyclists on the weekends. Parking is relatively easy given the fact that there are no other businesses in the area.

This place is f***ing amazing. The best way I can describe it is that it's just like home cooking if your mom was the most badass cook ever. Truth be told, restaurant owner Matt Peek is one of the best cooks I've ever met. He brings his native Maryland flair from the East Coast to provide his guests with heart warming food in an atmosphere that's just as inviting as the menu, and just as comfy as each dish he serves up. This is a great place to bring friends, family, take a casual date, or just grab a bite to eat by yourself. Notice that that covers pretty much any situation in which you would be eating... because that's when you should eat there. Any flippin' time. Also, be ready to meet some people when you go there. Unlike any other place I've been in the LA area, this restaurant has a very communal feel to it that's simply conducive to meeting new people and striking up conversations. Don't be surprised if you leave with a new friend or two along with a very satisfied, full belly when you walk out. Did I mention the food is super cheap here too? And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a beautiful thing. Recommended items: Pulled pork sandwich Poutine (and the poutine burger... that's right) Sweet Potato Fries!!! (Seasoned with cinnamon sugar... AMAZING) Corn Fritters Chicken and Dumplings (and get a side of corn fritters to dip in it) Cajun Chicken Sandwich Mac and Cheese THE RIBS (Only available on select nights) The Magnolia Pie (Or really any dessert... dessert's kind of a specialty in their already awesome lineup of foods) The breakfast burrito (only on weekends before 3) and literally anything they're offering as a special on any given night is probably amazing. Since I've tried most of their menu at some point, I almost always go with the specials, and they have yet to disappoint.

First time here and I loved it! I had the beef brisket sandwich and the best macaroni and cheese I ever tasted! The place is a very comfortable and it feels like your in a small town restaurant! Very welcoming to me when I came in and they took my order and gave me their specials which was on an erase board! The food is not expensive at all for being in Burbank. I love this place and the food is awesome! I can't wait to go back! They take credit cards and no minimum. They have burgers and it is delicious!

Was really excited to try this place! My daughter picked me up for lunch, got into a car accident on her way to get me, poor thing, but all was okay. Walk in, cute little place, table of 6 outside 2 people inside, not bad. Sit down, very nice guy brings our drinks. About 10 mins pass, the waitress says, "i'll be right with you guys", takes food outside to 2 people, comes in and stands in the kitchen waiting for another order. 5 more mins pass. She walks back in with a salad she just took out, tells the cook there was something on the salad they didn't want. the cook says something all annoyed, reaches into the salad with bare hands, of which he is wiping sweat away with, and pulls out whatever they didn't want. EWH EWH EWH EWH! I was like that's it, not to mention all the dead flies next to my face on the window ledge. It didn't appear he was going to actually remake that salad either. So when we were leaving i stopped at the table outside and said "not sure who didn't want what on that salad but the cook just stuck his bare hand in the salad and grabbed off whatever it was and I don't think you're getting a new salad, just so you are aware. pretty gross to see that and that's why we are leaving" The place looks pretty gross inside, not super clean at all. I know gross stuff happens at restaurants but I do not need to SEE it going down that was nasty! I only gave this 1 star because the bus boy was on top of it and seemed nice. And I guess because you HAVE to give them some sort of star. Any how, you've been warned.

Okay, this place is delicious. I almost feel embarrassed for living so close and it being my first time there. I had the brisket sandwich and it was...wait for it...... Legendary. The cole slaw, spongy buns, BBQ sauce and the combination of slow roasted, fresh and delicious meat is unbeatable. I actually love the size of this place and it beats the old riverside cafe. The service is exceptional and it helps that the prices are super reasonable as well. It's a great place for lunch or dinner and I like more than Pecos Bill on Victory (which is also delicious) Awesome place, love that they have a bathroom to clean up the food of your face and fingers for all you messy eaters out there :)

Some friends brought me to this place yesterday, and it was great! Good food, and a very doggy friendly environment! In my book you can't get much better than that :-) We went there for lunch after a hike yesterday with our dogs and sat at the one large table on the patio (4 adults 3 and half dogs :-) and were made to feel very welcome. They immediately brought out a big bowl of water and doggy treats for my dog Yoda while I waited for my friends to get there. When they arrived, two of us ordered the lunch fish and chips special, with a side basket of onion rings! Yum! My friend ordered a steak sandwich which was huge and she said it was delicious! They were out of their magnolia pie for dessert, which was disappointing because my friend raved about it, but that's just a good excuse to go back again! Which I'm thinking I might do today, and take my husband. He'll love this place! I wish I'd thought about taking a photo of my food, but I was too hungry! But we did take a pic of all the dogs at the table, so I'll post that! Great little place, I'll go back for sure! Oh, yeah, and about as friendly service as you can get anywhere!.

Was really looking forward to trying this place since they've done a lot of local print advertising, but after today's visit, won't be returning. Let's get one thing straight: the staff is nice enough and they're obviously working out the customer service kinks. It's the set-up and food that may kill the biz. Got there right after they opened, but was told they were out of the crab cakes for the sandwiches. Okaaaaay... so instead I ordered the grilled cheese. Bread was burned, as was the hot dog one of my kids ordered. The others in our party ordered the burgers, one with a side of mac and cheese. Nothing special about the burgers, and the mac and cheese did not arrive until we were almost finished. Probably could have made a fuss about that, but didn't want any trouble for the server or cook. For the lunch items, prices look great when you're perusing the menu, but when they set that plate down and you see how small the portions are, it's kind of a let-down. Tight indoor dining space, ratty furniture, and flies. Lots of flies. I know it's hot, and we're in the equestrian district. But they have to do something about it because it's not fun to share your lunch with all that nastiness.

Tried the special chicken sandwich with peanut sauce-delicious! Also had a burger - good, but not top notch (therefore the name, I'd guess). I will add, that I did not get it with the mustard and other sauce - could have been why it was just meh. We ordered the corn fritters and the sweet potato fries as well - and both were absolutely delicious. The cinnamon on the fries was a first for us - and we all enjoyed it! The corn fritters - the best I've ever eaten.! Will definitely eat here again! I recommend it!

Given my well-documented and consistent love of small, hole-in-the-wall joints, I am saddened to have to give Not A Burger Stand two stars. I really had hoped to enjoy the experience since I don't like wasting time, money or calories, but alas, it must not be meant for us. A groupon brought me here, but it took 3 times schlepping to this part of Burbank (cross town from my home) to find them open - the first time they had closed for the holidays; the second, they are closed every Monday; finally, today I got to the restaurant at about 445pm on a Wednesday and while there was literally no other customer but me - they were open for business! The order: beef brisket entree with mac+cheese, crab cake sandwich, side of green beans, side of bbq beans, slice of blackberry pie and slice of key lime pie (for which they charged me $6/per SMALL slice - more on that later). Total cost of the meal: $40.88 The cons: First off, I came to pick up food to go; my groupon was for $20, and I was paying the difference, but I was told that normally because it's super inconvenient to the restaurant during the busy times to give groupon customers to go orders (to clarify, they do take out normally, so not sure why this would be any different), they would only do dine in for groupon customers (see aforementioned 18% gratuity scam in other reviews). As mentioned, I was the only person in the restaurant and at the look on my face, the employee said that they'd do take out for me this time because there was no one else there. WTH? Personally, I don't like being told what to do...if I'm paying for food, why do ou try to dictate where I eat it? After agreeing to give me my food to go, they packaged the cold pies on top of the hot entrees. Bagging 101: cold with cold, hot with hot. It ain't rocket science. Which brings me to the pie. Honestly, if you are going to charge $6 for a small slice of pie, that ish better be bangin'. This was SO not. Next time, I'm taking my $6 and heading over to Trader Joe's and buying their Ultimate Berry Pie for $7. Better value and better taste. I still have a hard time believing, tho, that the actual cost of those slices was $6 a pop, but I figure this is part of that punishment they mete on groupon customers...in a lame effort to recoup the discount they use to lure you in through the groupon. It's really too bad - for the sake of $12, they lost a customer who'd have been *absolutely thrilled* to support a local, small business serving up good BBQ in this city. Note to all business owners: if you don't like groupons or those of us who use them to learn about new places, DON'T OFFER GROUPONS. You end up with a one time customer who's unhappy at the treatment they received, instead of the repeat business that is the only sustainable way to make you money. Treat all of us like you'd like to be treated when you go out to eat. Oh, and by the way, my family and I owned a successful restaurant for many years...so I know what I'm talking about here. The pros: The food is more than passable... The crab cake sandwich is really flavorful, as befits a Baltimore native. He didn't disappoint his hometown. The brisket had a good bark and was pretty tender. The mac+cheese would have been much better had it been hot, but even lukewarm, it had decent flavor. In truth, if I had felt more welcomed, I might have liked the food better. As it stands, my hunt for a local place to grab a bite of BBQ continues. Good luck...with service like this, you'll need it.

Purchased a Groupon ($10 for $20), brought boyfriend here to give it a shot. He is from the south so this is as close as it gets for him to have a taste of home cooking while living in Socal. Upon arriving, we were given the menus and ignored for a good 15 minutes. We understand it was sort of busy since there's only 3 people running the restaurant at that time, but not even getting our drink orders is kind of...overboard. They finally got around to us and we ordered. We both got the chicken and dumplings and thought it was pretty good. After our meal, I went up to pay (because we didn't want to wait forever for the check to come). Our waiter told us they charge 18% gratuity for using a Groupon. Are you serious? 18%? For 2 people and our meal was literally $20 even. Not cool at all. All BS aside, I was going to tip them well anyway because we liked our foods, although the service was whack. But, because of the shady move they busted, I wanted every penny from the change because the total was $25 something. Our waiter actually asked if I wanted change back, of course I do. You already charged 18% and you wanted to keep the change too? You must be out of your mind. Bottom line, we WERE going to come back because we actually enjoyed our meal, but because forcing that 18% gratuity totally lost our business because we felt like we totally got jipped. As I was walking out, we saw a sign on the door stating about the 18% gratuity for Groupon users. Didn't think about putting it on Groupon itself? It's not like the customers are going to read every sign you have in the restaurant. It's a shame. I can only imagine how many other customers you've lost because of the shady 18% gratuity BS on a 2 people party for Groupon customers. Even if they were going to come back, they aren't anymore. So in the end, it will be your loss. Management obviously needs some marketing training.

Best BBQ pulled pork I've ever had! Delicious mac n cheese! I love NABS! I highly suggest signing up for their emails or liking them on Facebook. Somedays I'm sitting at work and I get their emails or see pics of specials on FB for that day & my mouth just begins to water. I love the creativity that the chef has begun to take with the daily specials. I have yet to try the pies but they look nothing short of spectacular. If Matt, the chef reads this... Please bring back the BBQ pulled pork & Mac n cheese burger you featured a few weeks ago!

Don't bother going to this place. The owner called the menu comfort food. But, it tastes like it's been frozen or out of a can if you ask me. I've had better barbecue at The Hollywood Way.

This place was del-i-cio-so! Found this place through Groupon. Only issue was the sign at the fron which stated 18% gratuity for Groupons. Whaaaaat??? How does that make any sense...? Actually, it doesn't. The food was amazing, but my only quarrel is that you should not participate in Groupon if you're just going to charge on the back-end. 18% gratuity for 2 persons is not kosher, at-all. Other than that - try the pulled pork. Also, they have patio seating and it is BYOB in the summer. French Onion Soup -- YESS PLEASE!

I brought my family here for dinner one day after work. I had a Groupon that was burning a hole in my pocket and it needed to get used before it expired. Driving up to the restaurant it's a quaint little shack on the corner (literally). The parking space on the lot was for like 5 or so cars but there is parking on the street. We looked over the dinner menu and the selections were few but what was ordered were some chili cheese fries, regular fries, mac & cheese, soft drinks, 7oz burger, and beef brisket sandwich. Our waiter was a very cool guy (sorry didn't get his name). Actually the cook was also pretty cool because he engaged with us as well. Very homely feeling inside. Small tables, chairs, and benches. No frills in the decor but I guess they save money on decorations to put it towards the food. Our food arrives. The fries well they're fries so they were good. The chile cheese fries had big pieces of tomato with what I think was maybe a turkey chili? Anyways the chunks of meat were pretty decent. The mac & cheese was cheesy goodness. Gooey, delicious, flavorful. That was a hit. The beef brisket sandwich was also good. However, my sandwich in some parts were very fatty in the brisket. I didn't like that. The sandwich was topped off with coleslaw. Taking off the fat from the brisket was a little annoying but once that was done the bbq, coleslaw, and brisket was pretty darn good. The 7oz burger well that was as plain as they can come. No biggie. Nothing to write about. There were no major complaints and we all enjoyed our food. HOWEVER, once it was time to pay I did not notice the "policy" of being charged 18% gratuity just for using the Groupon. Now, I'm not a cheap tipper and I give my fair share but one thing I absolutely hate is when an establishment thinks we have to pay gratuity. Tipping is not mandatory. Were we going to tip? Of course, but I do not like when I'm told I MUST pay 18%. For that reason alone I don't agree with their practice and how they basically hijack all the Grouponers that have gone thinking they can use the Groupon without any surprises.

Today was our first time eating at Not a burger stand. The reason why we stopped to eat here is that my daughter heard they were dog friendly. Me and the wife had eggs & bacon with rel whole wheat toast and my daughter had the egg sandwich on sourdough & fries. Everything was delicious and service was great and friendly to us and our dog gypsy. We will be back again. Thanks Not a burger stand!

Wow what a little gem! This Restaurant has superb food expertly prepared. The chef is a master at Maryland BBQ. He keeps the menu limited and does it all with flair. Service is first class and our Server Matt was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent suggestions. "Try the Crab Cakes". Mmmm good! I like restaurants where you can see right into the kitchen and this one is impeccably clean. "Not a Burger Stand" is clearly a popular local neighborhood fixture and can get crowded at dinner time (The joint was jumping!) So allow for that and maybe go a bit early or later. Order the specials! Easy on site free parking. Reasonably priced. BYOB. Double highly recommend!!

Came here twice with a Groupon. First time, the kitchen was closed because the chef was overwhelmed (this is about 5pm on a Sunday). We left, because we had tickets for Catch Me If You Can at 6:30 and couldn't wait 30min to order and another 15-30 for actual food. Really bummed, as we drove from beyond the Valley just for the food :/ We literally drove 2mi up the road to a burger stand that was pretty legit. Came back about 2weeks later, and ordered pulled pork, mac and cheese, baked beans. Friend ordered cheese burger and sweet potato fries. She liked the burger, but wasn't feeling the fries. I thought they were ok. My pulled pork was ok. I was starving and it still didn't overwhelm me. Mac was pretty good! Beans weren't anything special. Even after the $20 Groupon, the I dished out another $18 (including 20% tip). Kind of pricey for what we got. Probably not making the drive out to Burbank just for this spot, but if I'm around and the opportunity presents itself, I MIGHT try it again. Man, I was hoping it would blow my socks off.

I came here for the sole reason of purchasing a groupon earlier in the year for this restaurant because it sounded intriguing and seemed pretty cheap. The groupon was $10 for $20 worth of food. The restaurant is literally located in the middle of a suburban neighborhood in Burbank with no other restaurants in sight. The restaurant itself as well as the parking on the side of it is tiny! There are only enough spots for about 6 cars and the inside only holds about 6-7 tables. There are tables surrounding the perimeter of the restaurant, but they didn't quite appeal to me. There is also a bathroom located at the back side of the restaurant, with the entrance from the back. Creepy much? The waitress taking our order was friendly and nice, but immediately informed us of the 18% required gratuity for all patrons with a groupon. I appreciated her letting us know ahead of time, but really? 18%? Not cool! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich along with a side of mac and cheese while my boyfriend opted for the $12 beef brisket entree, which literally came with a few tiny pieces of brisket and a side of coleslaw. Uhh....really now? That wouldn't feed a 10 year old child let alone a grown man! It tasted fine, but absolutely nothing special enough to go out of the way for or pay $12 for. My pulled pork sandwich was decent in size and filled me up,but was very dry and just nothing special. Don't even bother with the mac and cheese. Not only was the food not great, but the service was beyond slow considering there was only one guy cooking. It seems as if this is a locals place because most of the people coming in knew the owners and the owners knew them. I just wouldn't consider this my cup of tea for a barbeque place.

One of my favorite places to eat in Burbank. I have been there three times and have enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich and the huevos rancheros. The staff are extremely friendly as well--highly recommended for delicious food!

An unassuming little cottage in an unassuming part of town. Geographically it seems too out of the way to be servicing anything substantial but I guess everyone drives in Burbank. The waiter was very friendly but he moved at a Southern pace if you will, which is to say, leisurely. The shrimp and grits were great, as were the sweet potato fries which tasted fresh and briefly reminded me of panko/tempura, but I don't think they were battered. Enjoyable nonetheless. The mac & cheese was not all that, the burger was shrug-worthy and the green beans were bland and either undercooked or microwaved. Our guests said the crabcakes were excellent, but then again he described the mac & cheese as "very good" so that may be suspect. They have a tiny little lot there, and outdoor seating, which was pleasant on a balmy weekend afternoon.

SO, I have been going to this place for a bit over a year. I have enjoyed their French Onion soup and the Beer & Beef Chili. My wife loved their fish and chips and crab cakes. So why the 1 star? Stopped in for a lunch on a cold and rainy day. We even travel to go there. Only about 10-12 miles, but we choose to make that trip because we liked the place. Not again. There was one other table of 3 people. So not busy and no rush. I ordered the onion soup and the chili. When it came the server/runner (not our waitress- whom by the way apologized to us for what transpired) delivered the food but spilled some of the clam chowder my wife ordered onto my bowl of onion soup and the spoon that was resting on the side. I can not eat sea food. So immediately I asked him to take it back and make a new soup for me. He didn't want to do it. He wanted to disagree and argue that the soup was only on the spoon. I saw the spill as he was trying to carry the chowder and the onion soup in one hand. Not unusual and almost common place. But spilling the chowder over the other is not cool. This wasn't a big fix, just make another. It's soup stock and a slice of cheese. Suspicious of his attitude, I noticed that the same guy took the bowl, went to the window to discard the spoon and wipe my bowl with a cloth that he used to clean the table with. He then tried to take the bowl back to the oven to perhaps warm it to try to convince me he made another. I watched this, I'm not making it up. He was relaying all that took place to the cook and no, I could not understand them since my Spanish is more than rusty. I then stated that reheating was unacceptable and the cook called me crazy. Not kidding or trying to be funny to lighten the situation. Even if I am (crazy... and I'm willing to leave that up to the reader), that's not the way to conduct yourself with a customer. Even if I am wrong, why go there? Again, this was an easy fix, no harm no foul. These things happen. So why not just buck up and do the right thing? I am more than sad to write this and even more disappointed that I will not be going back. This isn't the way to treat a customer.

The first time I ate here was with a friend who talk nothing but amazing things about this restaurant. I ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich and had one of their special homemade soups (Sweet Potato Amaziness is what I like to call it). The Crab Cake was probably the BEST I've ever had. Most places have too much breading and not enough crab or the crab tastes old; this one was PERFECT. Our waiter, however, was overwhelmed by the business and was the only one working. I feel I could've done a better job and I've never waited a day in my life. The food was so delicious I didn't let this sway me and my friend I was with tol dme he was a terrible waiter and to try it again and I did. I took my boyfriend and we have always been looking for a BBQ Sandwich place to replace our beloved 4 Rivers in Florida and man did this place deliver! I got the Pulled Pork Sandwich w/Sweet Potato Fries (They're dusted with cinnamon so if that's not your think I for without) and my boyfriend got the Chicken and Dumplings (which was like a hearty stew) and Potato Salad, which was mashed and delicious! Both he and I were super happy and loved our meals. Our waiter was also awesome and from Florida so we bonded over that. We also got the discount for doing a voice. I love this gimmick. I will definitely return again to try something else amazing!

Small restaurant but big enough for south Burbank. Not a busy area with griffith park to the south and Angeles Forest in the distance. They do have a burger here, the 7oz burger, but if you do go here have someone try the french onion soup. Worth it. Huge pulled pork sandwich for $6.75. Not the greatest pulled pork since it could have been reduced in sauce to make it tastier. Instead it's on the dry side so you either douse it in bbq sauce or power through. The key to making good pulled pork is reducing it in sauce until it's fully covered in sauce and in semi sized chunks. My pulled pork sandwich was in oversized chunks. It was tender though. Not something you should order if you know what I'm talking about. NABS is located in the equestrian area of Burbank so you will see horses and you hope that those particular horses don't do their duty in front of said restaurant. If you're lucky you'll see goats on leashes. It's also in front of a busy bike path. So fellow bikers, enjoy.

This place used to be the "Riverside Cafe" and since I don't travel that road much I didn't realize it had closed and another restaurant had replaced it until a Groupon appeared. I went to use my groupon today and was pleasantly surprised by everything I tasted. I ordered the special which was an open-faced meatloaf sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and since we had a deal we ordered the wings as well. Everything was fantastic and the wings are a better flavor than most wing places can muster. The staff is quick, courteous and professional. This is a 5 star place based on taste, but I rated 4 stars only because they have such limited seating and this can screw you during lunch rush. Definitely worth going slightly out of your way for.

Definitely "not a burger stand." Friend ordered the burger and it was the most plain, boring burger I've seen served in a restaurant in a while. The name of this place is not ironic if that's what you were hoping. I think they should make their name literal and not serve the burger at all. If that had been what I ordered I probably would've assigned 2 stars. I'm not the biggest pulled pork fan, but decided to try it. Good call! The first 3 bites of this thing were the best. The brioche bun was slightly crispy, you get some tangy-sweet barbecue sauce, cole slaw and it makes you smile. Halfway into it I started to feel like the sauce was a little too sweet. They pile on the toppings making this a pretty filling sandwich for almost $7. Also tried the Mac n' Cheese. it comes out piping hot in a ceramic bowl which was comforting. The quality of cheese used was nice, but when you get to the center where the charred top was it tasted a little burnt as opposed to oven toasted. May have been a fluke. I'd still order this again as I enjoyed it overall. The restaurant itself is compact inside. The place got really smoky! If it had been any busier I'd have felt like I was in a smoke house or a sauna. Ventilation was poor. I probably smelled like BBQ after leaving. Cute factor: Each table had a unique salt n' pepper shaker. Loved that. There were a couple of pigs, honu, tikis, scottish terriers, etc. Super cute! You might also witness some horses cruising the streets due to it's close proximity to the equestrian center. Parking: Small private lot or plenty of residential street.

Love this place! The staff and frequent innovative specials and desserts have us coming back for more every week. My husband and I have been regulars since they opened their doors a year ago. Unassumingly good, simple food with a fun twist. Casual friendly atmosphere. Like pulling up a chair & eating at your friend's kitchen table. A great place to hang after work and meet up with friends and strike up a conversation over a bottle of wine.

First time trying out this place today & I had the Fish & Chips. I must say I really enjoyed it. The fish was moist, the batter was nice & crunchy, the fries were good, but the kicker for me was the dip. It is a garlic infused..... something, but I really enjoyed it. The service was also really good. I will definitely be going back to try more of their dishes.

Mehhh. Um, I've had better. Pros: Quaint lil place, cute, outside seating. Fries were the BOMB! aHHH amaze balls, the sweet pot fries were cinnamon / honey coated, like a churro taste almost. The plain fries, just plain ol goood! I was full after the sandwich which is not easy to achieve we are BIG eaters. Cons: Alas, we waited prob 40 mins for food, ugh. I was starving, I will not knock a star off for that though, because one girl was working by herself. The loss of star goes to the pulled pork sandwich which was hella dry, over cooked/ not juicey? And also the bun/ bread was incredibly stale, very dry it really ruined the sandwich and hubby's burger, he was not a happy camper. Man/ burger - dry bread = sad cave man. Although he said it was meaty and there was alot of food. Vanilla milkshake, meh, average-not-great. Probs won't be back for a burger, but maybe for the sweet potato fries! :) $4

Amazingly sincere staff who want to make sure you have a great time in their care. Miss Melissa is just the cutest and has the BIGGEST smile. Matt (the owner) will come by and check in on you and then there's a cute, young guy who works there who has always been full of good cheer. Sorry I can't remember his name. The food? I can't promise you've never had better, but the people are what make it a great experience.

Bottom line: food was delicious. Unfortunately, we got there about 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. The place is tiny, but was slammed. Only available seating was outside. The patio actually has a very pleasant view of a relatively busy neighborhood intersection. We saw joggers, dog walkers, cyclists, and, believe it or not, one couple in a carriage pulled by a mini-pony. The vibe is this is the neighborhood go to for incredibly sophisticated renditions of comfort food, where the 60-ish couple is just as comfortable as the new parents trying to wrangle their two year old out on the patio with us. The only reason for 4/5 stars is that the patio really, really needs gas heaters, and that the kitchen seemed a bit in the weeds with the full capacity crowd. Nonetheless, I'm glad they put quality over speed. I tasted everything our table ordered. The highlights were a twice-baked potato that came with the special, the house potato chips, the chicken and dumplings, and above all, the corn fritters. I would return during a less busy shift.

Groupon brought me here but the delicious food and great service will bring me back. I stopped here on a random Friday afternoon when no one was around, and I got to chatting with the owner/chef, who was incredibly cool. From our talk, he understood right away that I was on a lunch break and packaged my order to-go without my even having to mention it. I got the chicken and dumplings, pulled pork sandwich, horseradish mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. The chicken and dumplings were the definition of comfort food, and the pulled pork sandwich was absolutely mouthwatering. The owner apologized for accidentally giving me too much pulled pork, a mistake I certainly had no problem with. I look forward to taking the time to dine in next time and exploring more of their delicious menu.

Really terrific southern food with spectacular home made potato chips and killer desserts. Solid food with the right amount of southern spices, and very fresh tasting. Fair warning - the restaurant itself is small and not air-conditioned, which is not so good in Burbank. But they do offer carryout.

Came here with a friend for lunch. The place is small but cozy. I like the decor and they do have adorable salt/pepper shakers. Parking lot is small. The grilled cheese sandwich with bacon marmalade was awesome, BUT very greasy/oily. I took a bite of it and I kid you not, grease started dripping down the thumb of my hand. I finished the sandwich in about 30 seconds nonetheless; it was greasy but it still tasted awesome. The pulled pork was okay. It wasn't as tender as I'd like and the barbecue sauce tasted generic. The coleslaw was enjoyable. Staff here is really warm and friendly and attentive.

Stumbled upon this place during a bike ride. The owner (i think it was) was really nice. I got 10% off for ordering with a Harley Quinn voice. Get the sweet potato fries. Trust me.

What a dive should like...and smack in the middle of a residential/equestrian neighborhood. My Cajun chicken sandwich was generous and tasty. My wife pronounced the hamburger "just right" and our friend liked his Cajun-style fish. Friendly and efficient service. We'll be back. Can't understand why a customer in an earlier review was upset over a soup spoon falling into another soup bowl. Things happen. No reason to become a malcontent.

Seriously... Fantastic! I've never had a bad meal here! And they are so friendly. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious and the special of the day Doritos crusted chicken! Is aaaaamazing!! It sounds weird but tastes so good. Always ask for their specials!! Great prices, great food.

The cook is so upsetting. It happened a few times before. How he can keep his job is a mystery to me. If I would have such an attitude at my job I would be fired. Asking for eggs well done or medium drives him crazy. I just ordered a sandwich to go with Rye bread. They did not know they were running out of rye when I ordered. They used whole wheat instead. I am sensitive to wheat, especially whole wheat and the nice waiter offered to have it changed into sourdough instead when I arrived to pick up my sandwich. I agreed and thanked him. I was standing close to the kitchen when the cook complained about me wanting sourdough instead of wheat. Hello! I ordered rye, not my fault you were running out. I told him to excuse me but I am standing right here and he just got pissed and looked at me with disgust. I got so annoyed by the cook"s attitude I left without the sandwich. Why is he not fired and replaced? It is not the first time that he upsets customers. I am a regular, we always go there for brunch and everybody is really nice and the food is good. But if you ask for a little change like bacon well done the cook freaks out. Well, he got better with that over time. I would expect him to spit in my food if he is upset. He has anger issues and for sure is in the wrong business. I would give the place 5 stars with a different cook.

We heard of this place from Chris Burroughs on KTLA, we thought we'd try it out ourselves. We had a Groupon deal to use and we were not disappointed. Everything was good. I liked the Chicken and dumplings, they were just like the way my grandpa made them, we also liked the mac and cheese, it was delicious! just like home! My husband liked the fish and chips, I liked them too. Everyone was friendly, and we also liked the salt and pepper shakers. We will definitely be back.

What a lovely little burger shack. We've been driving by this place for a while and finally got a chance to try it a few days ago. I had the beef brisket sandwich. The brisket was very flavorful and cooked to tender perfection. The hubby had the chicken sandwich, which was also delicious. The price was very reasonable and a service was very nice. I'm glad we stop by.

I love this place! I've been here several times since I work nearby and its one of my go to lunch spots when I make plans for lunch. The staff is super friendly, and the owner is quick to interact with the guests to make sure that everyone is happy with their visit. There are always delicious and creative specials, and fun promotions. And the price is right! Try the egg salad sandwich, and whatever the desert special is. You won't be dissapointed!

Went here for the first time last night and couldn't have been more impressed. This place has an incredibly youthful vibe with a hard-working attitude to produce amazingly tasty, home-cooked food. It's kind of like eating at your best friend's house, if your best friend is a really excellent cook. I loved the menu and can't wait to try something new, but I got the cheeseburger and it was perfect. I had asked for no mayo and before the burger hit the table, the server turned around saying he'd quickly get me a different bun because the one I had had mayo on it. He was real quick! The service here is excellent! I also got their really great green beans as a side. They have a different Sunday dinner every Sunday and it's an $8 special. Yesterday it was chicken curry over rice with mango. Sounded, looked and smelled incredible, but I really wanted a burger. They also have pie and milkshakes. We got the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Perfect! Only bummer is they don't serve alcohol. I'll be going back real soon.

Not bad. Food was well presented and service was pretty good (although it was a slow day). I had a pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. The pork was tender and well-done but pretty tasteless. It needed lot of sauce but still, the meat should have some flavor. It was almost like they defatted the meat first. You can't do that with pork in a sandwich like this, although maybe with pork loin. Anyway, the fries were excellent.

Heard about this place on Burrous Bites (KTLA 5) The lady who invited Chris to join her recommended the crab cake sandwich, the chicken and dumplings and the buttermilk pie. I love crab cakes so of course I had to come check it out. Inside seating the restaurant is somewhat limited. You also have the option to dine out on the patio. Luckily it was a nice warm day so we didn't mind. Didn't have any issues with flies on this particular day as mentioned in some reviews. As usual, hubby and I ordered different sandwiches to split so we could sample more then one item. Before I share my opinion on the sandwiches.....I highly recommend that you check out the homemade potato chips! The sandwiches are served ala carte so you need to order chips or fries if you want them. The crab cake sandwich was good. Chocked full of REAL crabmeat and not bits of crab with lots of filler like bread crumbs and crackers. My one complaint was that although the bun had been toasted, it was a little on the hard side. The pulled pork sandwich was somewhat disappointing. The flavor was okay, but the sandwich had hot and cold pockets. Was the sandwich microwaved? Kudos to our waitress, (sorry can't remember her name) she asked if mustard was okay on the crab cake sandwich. (There was no mention of mustard on the menu) She mentioned that she always asks because if her sandwich came out with mustard, she would send it back. That would have totally ruined the sandwich since I am not a fan of mustard. Overall, we felt the food was average. Not worth a special trip except for the homemade potato chips. BTW - chicken and dumplings are served only after 3P.

Lunch here today was pretty great. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious and messy and the French onion soup was pretty good, too. I'd only suggest that the cheese could've been a bit more browned on top. The service was exceptionally quick, which is key during weekday lunch hour. I work around the corner and am glad I do, for I will be coming back.

Had the pulled pork.. The meat was good, but the BBQ sauce was to sweet for my taste. I didn't like that I had to wait past 3pm to order any entrees. Mac n cheese was good! Pretty close to roscoes style. Wish there was more seating..and I hope they add ribs to their menu one day.

Just a joint with really good grub! Food is really good with generous portions. Staff is really friendly and helpful. No decor but who needs it at a joint, it's just real. Everything seems to be home-made, even the ketchup!

This is the place on Reddit. If you can fit in 10 meows when you place your order, they'll take 10% off... That got the attention of Supertroopers/Broken Lizard actors, leading to its place on the front page. Pretty awesome. And their burgers are good, too.

This joint has a very limited menu (appetizers, sandwiches, a handful of entrees, and sides) which is not necessarily a bad thing. It just means that what they do serve is done very well. I had their Famous French Onion Soup ($4) which was soooooooo yummy I know I will have to come back for more. I also had their Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($4) with bacon marmalade ($1 extra) which I highly recommend. The sandwiches don't come with any sides, but you can easily order fries, cole slaw, mac and cheese, etc. for a few bucks more. I've also tried their Sweet Potato Fries ($3.50) with house honey mustard dip - you get a nice portion and it's very well made. A lot of what they serve is comfort food. The portions might not look that big, but once you start eating, you will be surprised by how filling it really is. As for the ambience, I really liked the kitschy touches. There is a collection of salt and pepper shakers donated by customers which is really cute. The mugs used for coffee also seemed to have come out of customers' cupboards, as they are all mismatched and oddly funky. I even liked that when you pay by credit card, it is processed via an iPhone they bring to your table - you add the tip (by pressing an option of 15%, 20% or 25%), add your signature with your finger on the phone, and then you have the option of having the receipt emailed to you. Maybe I'm behind the times, but I haven't seen many restaurants offer this option, so it felt unique to me. I shall return!

I love this place, right next to me, the staff are so friendly, the food is great, reasonably priced and it just has that, "this is our little place" thing going on. Gotta nod to the irony too! For not being a burger stand, they got dem good burgers! Although I will say my favorite thing here is the french onion soup--I could have it every day.

I've been here once and had the pulled pork & horseradish mashed potatoes. The food was really good. They post their specials on facebook and they sound really good too. What really impressed me about this place is, if you stripped away all the huge chain restaurants & fast food joints, maybe you'd be left with places like this. Places that take care in what they serve and how they serve it! I think it might be be like what this country used to be, or at least should be! I will be back.

I've been meaning to stop by since the re-launch of the new restaurant and I finally did today. My boyfriend and I live two streets over and decided to take a friend along. All three of us left with happy bellies and happy wallets. I love when I go to a restaurant and the menu is simple. It usually takes me forever to decide and I get overwhelmed with a menu too large. That was one of the problems with Riverside Cafe. I also love that you can get quality southern cooking at a great price. I got the brisket with mac n cheese. Delish! My bf and our friend both got the pulled pork. They loved their food as well. We were paid the proper amount of attention by the server and asked personally by the owner if we were happy with everything. My bf and I will be coming here a lot!

This is a super cute little restaurant in the Rancho. Owner Matt Peek has done a great job of cleaning the place up and simplifying everything from the decor to the menu. I had the chicken and dumplings with a side of green beans. The portion doesn't look huge, but it was deceiving. I left with a very full belly. This is comfort food at it's best - flavorful chicken and gravy with big dumplings, and interesting green beans (lots of garlic and pepper, which I love). My boyfriend had the beef brisket sandwich and horseradish mashed potatoes. He loved the potatoes, and we both thought the BBQ sauce on the beef brisket was amazing! The chef uses the BBQ sauce throughout the menu (including marinating a portobello in it), and it's easy to see why. The beef itself was smoky and delicious. The bun was a bit dense, so I think next time we'll skip it and just order the beef brisket plate!

I finally made it in yesterday and WOW! Love everything. Service was super fast, and I was excited for the the new menu. We had grilled cheese (with bacon! mmmm) and shared yummy seasoned fries. All around fantastic. Can't wait to go back!

I'll give this place about 3.75 stars. Went here on a Friday night with my girlfriend to grab a quick bite. It's a cool little restaurant made out of a converted house, with some kitschy add-ons like themed animal salt & pepper shakers to give it a homey feel. The biggest downside is that it's very small, probably big enough to seat only 30-40 people inside and out. If you're in a group larger than 4, you might run into seating issues. I ordered the Chicken & Dumplings with horseradish mashed potatoes. Both were good, if a little spicy, and I would definitely order them in the future. My girlfriend ordered the Shrimp and Grits with Mac and Cheese, and she was decidedly less thrilled with her meal. The grits were too spicy for her taste, and the we've had better mac and cheese at other restaurants in the neighborhood. She did enjoy the bites of my meal that she had, and that was enough to sell her on the restaurant.

This place rocks!!! A very nice addition to an area where Burgers & BBQ are rare. The cheeseburger is just a simple, nothing fancy, damn good burger! I went back on a Sunday just after being there on Friday for the first time. The brisket sandwich was amazing, the mac & cheese is to me perfect, and the staff is super nice. Also, in an area where most restaurants are closed when the studios are, its nice to have a good place in Burbank that is open on the weekends! Keep it up guys, you're doing great!

I really like this place. I recall it being The Riverside Cafe but when I visited today for the first time in quite a while the guy that helped us was the same. Basically this is the ultimate greasy spoon- which I love. A quick grilled chicken melt with pepperjack cheese and a side of homemade potato chips that appeared to be covered with sea salt. I like that chunkier salt. The whole thing was good- with an extra stack of napkins from the waiter to soak up the drippings. On a mild sunny day like today, sitting outside, sometimes with a guy on a horse walking by en route to the equestrian center- it was perfect. I'll definitely be back again.

Really wanting this place to succeed. So far it's good, not great. Just moved to the area and having something walkable down by Riverside for the locals, equestrians, dog walkers and cyclists is smart. Viva Fresh is a Mexican food joint down the street and is the only other eatery nearby. But it's only good if you're an over-50 alchy yearning for bad country music and don't care about...you know...food. The Riverside Cafe which preceded this place was a folksy joint that welcomed dirty horse riders, had a wide variety of food offerings, great service and a lot of charm. Here are some tips for the management: -The name. It's not funny, chic or cool. "Mom's" or "Cafe" would be better. -The sign. Looks like a 6th grader painted it. Save your money and replace it when you can (change the name while you're at it) -Interior seating. Very hard bench seat. Maybe re-upholster the benches with that metalflake candy-apple vinyl from the 50's to capture some of that vintage vibe you're going for. -The hand-drawn chalk signs are fun, but hard to see when going by. Something bigger would be a blast to see as folks drive home from Disney. -Outside seating used to have potted plants and shade, making it feel cozy. Now you feel like you're sitting on plastic chairs in the parking lot. Some plants, a little fountain...try sprucing it up a bit. -Menu. Several good entrees (Crab cakes, pulled pork, Chicken & dumplings, Brisket). A little more variety would really be welcome...especially to the locals. -Sides. Ditto re above. also it feels real stingy to pay for a meal and then get a small plate of food with 1 side. Happy to spend a few bucks more if it gets me a bigger plate a couple of sides and a basket of bread or chips. -Consistency. Have gotten some pulled pork or brisket there that have been notable..and I'm a pretty serious BBQ man myself. I've also gotten these same dishes that were cold, grisly, etc. More consistency will really help this. -If you can eventually open this place up to breakfast and offer great coffee and muffins and it might steer folks away from Starbucks. I guess I feel like I can say all this because i've spent $100's of dollars there already and would like to eat there a lot for the next 20 years...more frequently if some of these things improve. Good Luck!

Alerted by friends on Facebook, I went in on their special "May the 4th" Star Wars promo. Service was fast and friendly, and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries, both of which were exceptional - the fries were the best I've had since the closing of the much-missed Rocky Cola Cafe. I enjoyed the open, airy feel to the indoor dining area and the chatty environment with other customers, who were enjoying their visit as well. My whole experience was more like an eatery in Hannibal, Missouri than Burbank, California, and that's a pretty good thing.

Just recently opened, and already such an improvement! The restaurant itself is bright and cheery, with outdoor seating, as well as limited inside seating (But with windows all around the dining area)! Their menu is yummy, and we definitely left happy and full. The staff is super nice & polite too. Definitely a spot to hit up whether you live in Burbank, or are just passing though. :)

I had a GROUPON (What else) and my friend Nikki had told me about this place (they live near-by)and the lobster roll sandwich, which is only available on Friday, but I wanted to try the Briscut, so we went to lunch and I was not disappointed.the "BACON MArmelade" which ihad a s a side order, is not some orange jelly glob with some bacon bits, but a REAL condiment they make themselves and I took home to side order and will use it on eggs, etc. The place is SMALL and they seem to have a need for maybe one more serving person, but the gal who works there all the time, or so Nikki said it seems, is really good and since it was not TOO HOT out, we moved a table into the shade and enjoyed our meals. The owner is from Maryland, has the state flat flying outside and serves MARYLAND crab cakes, real crab thank you and though it arrives like a hamburger patty, it tasted very good, as did the Briscut, and I might add, the barbecue sauce they use is not out of the bottle!!

I'm visiting my daughter and have been to this restaurant when it was the Riverside Cafe. Oh how I long to have that restaurant back. The food was always delicious and service superb! I had my grandson with me and the waiter never asked me if I needed a highchair, & didn't bring the children's menu until I asked. I ordered a walnut and blue cheese salad with chicken. When it arrived everything on it looked to be about 3 days old, wilted lettuce, brown apples etc. Very unappealing salad that I took about 3 bites of. The waiter never asked me if there was anything wrong with the salad. All in all, a disinterested and non-caring waiter and terrible meal. I will not be back and will make sure my daughter & husband hear all about it.

Okay, I try not to write a review until I've made a few visits but this place warranted one after a single visit. My wife, Myself and our 3 1/2 year old had a great time here. It's smaill inside but intimate is a more apt description, as you feel you are in a family members kitchen. We had Mac & Cheese, Smoked Wings, Crabcake sandwich and Beef Brisket Sandwich. All of which were OUTSTANDING! We also had fries which were very good, but not exceptional. Interestingly enough, the rest of the food was soo good that it made the, completely delicious fries, pale by comparison. The crabcake was so chocked full of lump crab meat that it would put most seafood restaurants to shame! The smoked wings are a bit spicy (which I personally love) but not so much that the heat over powers the flavor. The beef brisket was tender and melt in your mouth good. I hope it was homemade bbq sauce but if not I must find it in stores! We finished up our meal with a slice of blackberry pie that was quite simply the best slice of blackberry pie that I have ever tasted! The bus boy(man) who seated us was extremely helpful and recommended many items. He was incredibly attentive, bringing more napkins and such at the perfect moments. I forgot our waitress' name but she was splendid as well. My wife and I have already decided that this will be our go to place when we are looking for a fun night out for the family. One final note, their facebook page will alert you to the different dinners and desserts that they seem to throw together on the fly!

I'd driven by this place a few times and finally stopped in on a Friday night on my way home from work. I was actually meeting a friend at the movies, so I didn't have a lot of time. I think it was the owner who waited on me, and he could tell I was in a hurry, and got me taken care of right away. I had the french onion soup and the bbq portabella sandwich, both of which were very good. Nothing fancy, just good food and good, fast service with very reasonable prices. One thing I will say is that judging by the name, and the fact that from the street I could see the message painted on the wall saying "Eat your veggies," I thought this place was a vegetarian joint. I guess that's my bad, because it's not. There are very few non-meat items on the menu, but what I had was good. Definitely worth checking out for a fast, easy meal!

This place is really tiny, so you would expect really good, casual, hole in the wall grub. I do appreciate that the food tasted entirely home made, but It didn't do it for me. I had chicken and dumplings with a side of mac n cheese. Chicken and dumplings was more like a soup with bits of chicken pieces and the dumplings were like thick noodles. Tasty, yes, but so not worth the $. Way over priced for what you actually get. Didn't satisfy the craving. They should leave off the sides and make it a more satisfying comfort food dish. The mac n cheese was decent, but I didn't care for the torched browned top. Either do it in the oven or just don't do it.

Great place for good southern "comfort foods." Mac and cheese, potatoes, great pulled pork and brisket, FABULOUS BBQ sauce and AMAZING baked beans - a little spicy but not too spicy. And great coleslaw... and I'm not easy to please when it comes to coleslaw. And contrary to its name, they do serve burgers and the fellow next to us said it was really good! Try it - you'll be hooked and the prices are lower than some of the other bbq places around. You can even get a grilled artichoke!

I was super impressed with this place. I had been meaning to go in ever since they took over the location from Riverside Cafe (which was consistently meh.) So I finally made it for lunch and will be returning soon. I had the crab cake sandwich which was spot on and not too fishy like every other crab cake I've had in recent memory and fries, which were tasty and crispy. The vanilla malt was not as thick as I was expecting, but super yummy and definitely malty enough. My friend had the BBQ pork sandwich which she loved, and the Mac and cheese was super legit. Really good service, too. The busser, who I remember from the Riverside Cafe days, is one of the frendliest and hardest working people I've encountered in food service.

I, like many others, got a $20 groupon to Not a Burger Stand and rushed over there upon realizing it was about to expire. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but what I found was a friendly space full of scrumptious comfort food. FYI, they do include an automatic %18 gratuity with use of the groupon and I was unaware of this until it was time to pay. It would have been good to know as soon as I told them I had one but in all honest my server (Matt?) was so excellent he would've gotten that chunk of change anyway. A+ service, thank you Matt! Despite the heat I sat outside, the patio is nice and shady with a view of an equestrian intersection. I ordered iced tea immediately and settled in to scan the menu. The prices are reasonable; I've seen better, I've seen much worse, but the proof is in the food right? So, after eliminating the meatier options, I ordered the beer battered cod with a side of cole slaw and an added side of mac & cheese. The family at the table next to mine all had the macaroni and said it was wonderful so I had to try it. Also a refill on the iced tea because did I mention it was really frickin hot out? The macaroni came out first in a perfect little serving size. I prefer my mac overbaked, practically burnt if possible, but I know a lot of people don't so was content to at least see some browning on the top to prove it wasn't just made in a pot or the microwave. My first reaction to receiving a serving of mac is to reach for the black pepper but I decided to taste it first and to my delight it had already been heartily peppered! SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS ME! The noodles were good, not spongy or too soft, and the cheese was a really flavorful blend. My cod and slaw came out next and I immediately knew I wouldn't be able to finish the meal. Three large, golden filets with some sort of magical aioli (instead of the traditional tartar sauce) covered the plate, with a decent portion of slaw on the side. Fried food on a hot day isn't really my first choice but the batter was light, not terribly oily, and most importantly DELICIOUS, and the fish itself was bright and fresh. You guys, I think I found my new fish'n'chips place and I didn't even order the chips. The slaw was easily some of the best I've ever eaten. As I asked for a to-go box for the remainder of my meal the offer of dessert was placed before me. Had I hit $20 yet? No. Somehow all this yummy food added up to only $17. Could I order the dessert to go? Yes. And this is where NaBS totally won me over - I can't tell you how many grouponed places deny the option to order something to go if you haven't hit the dollar amount yet. So along with my box of half an order of fish & slaw I brought home a box containing a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie, which I ate chilled for breakfast this morning. Nothing short of perfection. The only real surprising negative was something I noticed as I was leaving. Sitting by the back door was a box stamped with prepackaged french fries. Really guys? You can't cut your own fries? Don't they sell something on QVC at 3am that can slice and dice in seconds? ah well. I guess it's an acceptable shortcut if they keep cranking out such wonderful food. I will absolutely be back.

The pulled pork is stupid delicious, and the sweet potatoes were fantastic. Matt peek is an amazing chef. Definitely a great place to grab a bite to eat, will come back without a doubt. Glad I found this gem.

I love this place because 1. their prices are very reasonable and 2. they offer daily specials that differ week to week. It is so rare to find a place that allows chefs to experiment with different dishes and I think it is great that this place has specials that change often. Their regular menu items are very good too (the portabella sandwich is yum!!) but the different desserts and meals they offer really bring a unique homestyle quality to this restaurant. Ex: tonight's special is $8 for Beef Stroganoff...who can beat that?!

I really like how dog friendly and inexpensive this place is. I would give it more stars if there were healthier options.

Went based on a friend's recommendation. Lived up to her raves. I had Chicken and Dumplings which were outstanding. Friends had shrimp and grits and French onion soup and egg salad sandwich. All enjoyed the food. The server was knowledgable and friendly. Service was prompt. I will definitely be back.

OH... MY...GOD.. I cannot express how happy this place has made me! The food is fantastic, and they have chicken and dumplings!!! The mac and cheese is fantastic and the chicken and dumplings rock my socks. I will definitely be coming back for more.

I almost don't want to review this place, because I want to keep it a secret before it gets too crazy. I found out about this place last week when I saw a $10 Groupon for $20 worth of food. I thought I'd give it a shot, $20 is enough for a really good breakfast. I got there and saw the awesome breakfast menu and realized that I'd have to go back later with my friend in order to hit the $20 mark, so I opted for these tasty potato skin eggs benedict things. $6 and some change got me this huge order of potato skins topped with country ham, a mild grilled chile, 2 poached eggs and awesome hollandaise sauce, and it had a side of house-made potato chips. I went back later that night with my friend and the place was hopping. Ordered a delicious pulled pork sandwich topped with crisp, fresh cole slaw and a side of macaroni and cheese that was to die for. Went back today for the breakfast burrito.. seasoned home fries and I have NO idea how much bacon was inside of it, but the egg / bacon / potato ratio was off the chain. The sucker was just LOADED with the crispy delicious bacon goodness, and the tortilla was grilled. Well played. Love this place. Two tips: Apparently it's BYOB, which is awesome. Also: Save 10% by doing a specific celebrity impersonation when you order. Today was Bobcat Goldthwait day. Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of hearing any customers do any Bobcat impersonations. I did however suggest that in the following weeks they should have Bill Cosby, or sing your order like Bob Dylan. So check the sign out front whenever you visit.

I wanted to love this place but my husband and I just used our groupon here and I'm sad to say our food was horrible. My soup came to the table cold which the chef fixed and then my fish and chips were raw and cold in the center. We were very disappointed that the waitress didn't even offer to replace the dish. We left with disappointed and nauseous stomachs. Sadly will never go here again. EVER

It is so hard to review a place where the food rocks, the prices are very reasonable but the service BLOWS!!! The food is so yummy (great French onion soup for $4.00), super tasty egg salad but maybe bring your own water because you won't get a refill and maybe your own Tupperware because you won't get a to go container. My suggestion is maybe charge $4.25 for French Onion soup and hire a 'real' wait staff. If they can get wipe down the tables and get a better crew, I'd be at this place at least once a week but nothing kills it for me than bad service. It is too bad because this place is a gem.

I went there to this place in December for a 3 o'clock lunch so I was REALLY hungry! I used to go here when it was the Riverside Cafe and thought I might try this new one. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich and potato fries. It was a lil more money than I wanted to spend on lunch but it sounded so good. I took it to go and when I got back to my office and took a bite of the brisket, I got a mouth full of fat! It was gross! I opened up the sandwich and picked through it so I could actually find the meat. When I was down separating, the meat to fat ratio was astounding! Barely ANY meat. I know that brisket will have SOME fat but this seemed like the cheap stuff. They should really buy a higher quality meat. The sweet potatoes were ok but over all I did not get what I paid for! I won't be going back there. Very disappointed!

I found the food here to be mediocre at best. I ordered the chili cheese fries for a starter and it was luke warm at best. Not very much chili or cheese. My husband ordered the burger and I ordered the pork shoulder entree. The pork was luke warm and overcooked and served cut up with BBQ sauce poured over the top. My husband said the burger was "meh". What I did really like was if you ordered in the voice of a certain character, you get a discount - very cute! We had to wait a long time for service as well. Plus, they take credit cards through The Square, which I hate as I've been hacked twice from giving my credit cards to vendors with The Square. Paid cash instead. A disappointment. We won't be going back. :-(

I had the Brisket sandwich and my son had the Pulled Pork sandwich. Both were piled high, lots of BBQ sauce and topped with a tasty cole slaw. We shared a basket of fries, which were thin, crispy, and hot. The Mac n Cheese looked and tasted homemade. Great service considering how busy they were. Prices were reasonable. We liked it so much we went back for their weekend breakfast, which was bargain priced. Two eggs, bacon, toast or an omelet for $3. Again good service and the staff made us feel like regulars or locals on on second visit. We will be back again.

Not impressed by the food nor the service. I had the brisket and potato salad... the brisket was dry and overcooked and the sauce tasted like a bottled sauce. The potato salad had ZERO flavor, except for raw all the raw onion it was full of. Spent my whole $20 groupon on brisket, unedible potato salad, and a ridiculously overpriced $4 shake. And to top it off, the waitress and cook were talking about us right in front of our faces. Don't waste your money.

The place is pretty small. My experience wasn't that great. When i told the waiter (there was only one person working the register & serving) that i wanted to take food to go, he said okay & it took forever to get a menu from him. i was told that i had to dine in with the Groupon, i was thrown off. So my kids and i decided to dine in. I waited so long for everything while people around me where getting menus, drinks, and food. When the food finally came, it was just okay. I didn't feel comfortable there and would never go back. The service sucked!

Chose this place because of the rave reviews on TA, but was disappointed. The owner was very nice but my steak was tough and hard to chew. Only like 7 tables inside and it's BYOB. Quaint but not great.

What a find! My husband works nearby so I purchased a Groupon to give it a try. We came on a weekday afternoon. Glad we did. The food was very good and service was excellent. They were very accommodating and made my 4 year old the cheeseburger he wanted although it wasn't on the kids menu. The host who seated us made sure we were taken of consistently. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich and unlike what I read, my sandwich was full of meat and very filling.. Not sure why the bad reviews on this place. Yes, with the Groupon we had to add 18% gratuity but for us it was worth it. They did the little extras. Definitely a cool little hidden gem :)

I live across the street, so this is my default "oh-crap-I-don't-wanna-shop-or-cook" place. Since the relaunch it's been fine although I would say I've had a better experience at brunch than dinner time. The food is tasty but this may not be the best place to go if you're vegan. What else? Hmm. I REALLY miss their espresso machine. They've got free wireless.

This is a local restaurant owned and operated by someone who cares about food. The owner is very enthusiastic about creating new dishes. He brought by a "rub" for that night's BBQ. It smelled heavenly. He creates a couple interesting specials each week. He is very inventive--trust me, I know, because I signed up for his weekly email. The Cobb salad was delicious and beautifully prepared. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent as was the crab cake sandwich--apparently the owner is from Maryland. Who better to know crab? And, the onion soup--delish! My husband and I were very impressed the moment we sat. Michelle, the waitress, was at our table within seconds. She was terrific. Matt, the owner, was very friendly and an amazingly good chef. We will return again and again. We are both so glad to have found this restaurant and thank Groupon for the opportunity. I would give it three thumbs up if I could!

Went here because I bought a Groupon. This place is small and cozy, with mismatched salt and pepper shakers to add to the slightly quirky feel. You could pretty much see the whole kitchen from where I was sitting. Not sure how they handle crowds but my boyfriend and I went on a quiet weeknight after normal dinner hours. The sweet potato fries were excellent, crisp and lightly sweet. For our entrees we got the chicken and dumplings and the roast beef. The chicken and dumplings were tasty, but the dumplings were more like large, flat noodles. This was fine because I happen to love that sort of thing. The beef was fine, but nothing to rave about. Came with a side of mac & cheese which was definitely made with real cheese. Yum! Had the maple creme brulee for dessert, something which I wouldnt' expect from a small shack-like restaurant such as this one, but it was just as good as any creme brulee as I've every had if not better. The waitress was nice too and the cook, possibly the guy who owns the place, personally asked us how the food was. There was definitely nothing wrong w/ the food, but maybe it b/c what we ordered wasn't my favorite kind of food that I wasn't blown away with the flavor. But definitely good quality food for a fair price. Overall, for price + quality of food, and service, definitely 4 stars.

Delicious little spot! French onion soup is the best I've ever had. BBQ ribs are great and so is the chicken fried chicken w/ funnel cake! Specials are fun the try new things and all the specialty desserts are amazing. Place is really small, but the food that comes out of the kitchen is really really good!!

Purchased a Groupon deal and it was totally worth it. I ordered their chicken and dumplings with a side of mac and cheese and bf ordered their special, which was BBQ ribs. Great meal! Must order the mac and cheese! Chicken and dumplings was good, it was comfort food on a rainy day, which was perfect. His BBQ was great, the sauce was not too sweet, it was tangy and delish! Would definitely go back to try other dishes.

My husband and I found this place when we moved into Burbank's equestrian district. WHAT A GEM!!! It's our go-to place now! The owner/chef Matt is obviously deeply passionate about food and it shows in his menu! Last time we went we had the AMAZING chicken and dumplings, a family recipe! We also had the brisket, which had so much flavor we had to interrogate him about smoking technique! NaBs specializes in delicious comfort food with a southern flair. We are always trying the specials because Matt is constantly trying new, yummy recipes! and the desserts... forget about it- the best! He's always dreaming up some ridiculous concoction that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Last night we took home the nutella bread pudding and chocolate lasagna- c'mon- who thinks up chocolate lasagna!! YUM!!! This is a casual neighborhood gem run by a passionate down-to-earth foodie and a friendly serving staff. PS- it's also a wallet-friendly price range! Woo-hoo!! When it's cold out- snug up inside with dumplings, french onion soup, and whatever wonderful special is going on, and watch the horses go by! When it's warm out, soak up the rays on the patio enjoyed your pulled pork sandwich, more specials and watch more horses go by!! Support your local gems!! We love Not a Burger Stand!!

I was hoping to enjoy the food a little more than I did, but it was still a decent dinner. We got the brisket which I thought was my favorite of everything we tried - very tender and a yummy sauce. The shrimp and grits were just okay and the mac n cheese was also just okay. Also, since there was only one waitress our service took a bit longer than I would have liked. I think I would enjoy this place better for lunch, just grab a sandwich.

Can't get much better than the best sweet potato fries ever PLUS excellent service. Comfort food at its best. The place is shack-ish, but I think that's part of the charm, really. Follow it up with fancy if that's what you want, but if you want excellent mac n' cheese, great BBQ beans, pulled pork sammies fish and chips, and all that goes with it - this place is for you. This place delivers where so many comfort food restos fail.

Not a Burger Stand is fantastic. I've been coming to this quaint neighborhood restaurant for years. Recently, the ownership and menu have changed and it's better than ever. Forget chain hamburger places. This stuff is the real deal. So far, Ive had the Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Chilli Cheese Fries, Mac and Cheese and French Onion Soup. All were really good. They have an actual Texas Smoker and it gives the beef and pork a real authentic smoky flavor. The sides are outstanding. And you can tell everything is fresh and homemade. I never feel bad after eating there! Service is personal, friendly and fast. Prices are excellent and you get a really good portion for the $. Not some giant corporate disgusting plate of food you get at the chain restaurants. But a generous, homemade portion that's plenty filling. If you're still hungry they have great desserts. So far, I haven't had enough room for them!!! Keep up the good work guys :)

Okay, I use to go to Riverside Cafe and loved their food. I was so sad when they closed. Well THANK GOODNESS NABS opened up within a couple of weeks. The food is absolutely amazing. The crab cake sandwich is to die for! The crab cake crisp with a nice puffy soft bun. Skinny fries, not greasy, just delicious. The egg salad also great! The place is so cute and bright with cool artwork on the walls. Not only is the food amazing, the staff is great and you're never left waiting for an Iced tea refill. Rumor has it hey have a fantastic milkshake, so I'll be trying that and the brisket on my next visit! I love that this is so close to where I board my horse. Wish they had a hitching post! *hint hint*

Well I can't tell you anything about the food, because when they showed up at 7:45pm they said they were closing early because they are out of food. The server who told is was also really rude about it as if we were supposed to know. What? Who runs out of food. We came to use our Groupon which expires tomorrow and since we can't go tomorrow I guess that was a waste. Definitely never coming back here again.

First time there and I was really impressed! Loved the Ribeye entree and the artichoke appetizer, but what really sold me was the coleslaw! It was absolutely perfect! So good! The only complaint was they were terribly understaffed! Only one server and I just wanted to help her the whole time! She was great and I know she was a good server she just deserved some help!

My family and I drove from downey to try the crabcakes sandwich. The food was delicious ly prepared. The chicken soup was really creamy and tasty. The sweet potatoe fries where extraordinary. Im a very picky eater and I do recommend this place to every body. The service was good. From the looks of it this place will have great success if they continue to serve great food the way they did today. Its worth the drive and the value is great. My family and I will continue to make the drive and eat at this establishment again. Oh yeah the pulled pork sandwich was very pleasant as well. We cant wait to go back.

A little plain, though not bad. As much as wanting to give at least 4 stars, unfortunately I have to give only 2 based on the pricing. Can't believe how OVERPRICED the menus are for such tiny portions. Ordered crab cake sandwich (for $8.75 with no side) + shrimp And grits (for approx. $15). Although not necessary or not interesting in gigantic volume, these are so pathetic. With additional 2 sodas, total price with tips came up with more than $35. Even though we had '$10 for $20" groupon, we think it is still outrageously expensive. Maybe because we ordered seafood??? If going with meat base with typical greasy sides, maybe OK (or not)?? Looking at both side of tables, BBQ, soup, mac & cheese.... look and smell at least quite good - still think these are also overpriced considering the portion, more acceptable than shrimp or the other kinds. It is a bit sad since we do feel that this joint has so much potential.

I do not make it over to the Burbank area that often, but when I do I loved this little Place it use to be the Riverside Cafe, and when I got there to day and saw that it was no longer the cafe I still thought I would give it a shot. Still owned by Matt Peek " Not a Burger Stand" has a Fresh new look and a fresh new menu. I had a Brisket sandwich with a side of Mac 'n Cheese which I am a fan of both. The service was a little slow today but being a new staff and second day opened i let it slide. I look forward to trying the other new items on the menu. Like the Crab cakes and the Horseradish mashed potatoes.

Groupon brought me here. I had a Portebello Sandwich. I swear that was the biggest portebello I've ever seen. Even the chef made this remark in the kitchen. The sandwich had cole slaw, drowning in BBQ sauce. Hubby had the special - Beef Stew. He said it was alright. Also tried the chili fries, which was probably the best dish of the night. Service was adequate, but the eatery got really smokey due to an open kitchen and lack of good ventilation.

This was one of the best meals out I have has in some time. For fans of the former Riverside Cafe- Not Just A Burger Stand has kept every thing that was great about the old place and reinvented it with a focus on comfort food- the Chicken and Dumplings were insanely good-and with a side of Mac and cheese I was in heaven! And with a soundtrack constantly playing of 70s hits from Donna Summer to the Doobie Brothers - maybe I was!

Came with the hubby for brunch on an early Sunday morning and enjoyed looking at the different salt shakers on the tables. A very hyper, but nice waiter told us to sit anywhere. We took a table closest to the kitchen, which also was the main aisle. I ordered the corn chowder and the grilled cheese with the bacon marmalade ($1 extra). My husband ordered the french onion soup, pulled pork sandwich and a side of sweet potato fries. A sweet old man at the next table told me that he used to come here with his wife, but she passed away but still liked to come once a week. As I was listening to him, I thought my eyes were watering or something, because all of a sudden, I could barely see! Turns out, smoke was coming out of the kitchen and filling the restaurant! The hyper, but nice waiter runs out of the kitchen and begins slamming the doors open to air out the room. Okay, but it's January and like, 50 degrees outside! The smoke clears and just as my teeth were about to start chattering, the corn chowder and French onion soup arrive! Yay...uhhhh...the chowder was very thin...Lots of flavor but more like a soup than a chowder. My husband's French onion soup honestly had a Kraft slice of Swiss cheese on top. Very disappointing, but at least it warmed me up. Soon, my grilled cheese arrives, but not before the room once again fills up with smoke and the hyper, but nice waiter again slams open the doors and I again am freezing! Maybe eating will help bring up my body temperature. The bread is thick and nicely grilled, but, hmmm...I don't see a lot of cheese. I take a bite and all I taste is this overly sweet orange marmalade. I see the bacon bits in it, but the marmalade is too overpowering to let any of the bacon flavor come through. If there were at least 2 slices of cheese inside of the sandwich it might have helped, but this was the weakest grilled cheese sandwich I ever had. Maybe my taste buds are too old fashioned, but grilled cheese should have a dominant grilled cheese taste! The pulled pork was good. Moist and tender with a crispy coleslaw on top but way too heavy on the barbecue sauce. They should consider putting the sauce on the side so we can add the amount we want. The sweet potato fries were excellent! They saved the meal, but not enough to get me to go back again. Good service from the hyper, but very nice waiter! Oh, and they added 18% gratuity to our bill because we used a Groupon!

My husband, myself, and our six year old son went to Not a Burger Stand tonight for the first time and we were extremely impressed. The homeyness, the engaging waitstaff, and AMAZING food will keep us coming back for years to come. My husband had the full rack of ribs which were perfectly cooked and perfectly smoky. They came with a side of broccoli, house-made BBQ sauce, and out of this world cornbread casserole. My son had chicken tenders and fries. The fries were satisfying and the chicken tenders were fat, juicy old-school fingers. I had the shrimp and grits along with the horseradish mashed potatoes. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned beautifully on a delicious bed of cheesy, homemade grits. The mashed potatoes were wonderfully balanced-not too much horseradish. For dessert, my husband and I shared a piece of the boston creme pie which had just been baked an hour before and was still warm. Needless to say, it was heaven. All in all, a cozy, down-home place where the owner greets you at the door, prepares your fantastic food with love, and sees you on your way. Can't beat that.

We came here after purchasing a Groupon. Food was pretty decent but very disappointed in the ventilation of the restaurant. We ordered four burgers and the restaurant became completely filled with smoke when they were preparing them. It was so bad my boyfriend could no longer stay and had to leave. The waitress assured us they have been trying to fix "the problem," but since they've been open for quite some time, I would think this would be figured out. I'm telling you, this was not just a bit of smoke, but a whole place filled with it. Won't go back again since it was such an unpleasant dining experience.

So the food is actually good, but I have a few complaints.....I've gone twice where both times they are out of something.....The shrimp and grits for $14 is such a SMALL portion I almost laughed in the waitress's face.....when I wanted certain things to go they said b/c it's so hot it would melt through the container, and......I had to ask for water....nothing to drink was offered. They need to stay stocked with their menu items daily, Upsize their shrimp/grits portion, carry more than just styrofoam if they know their items will melt through, and simply provide better customer service and not be so lax.

We visited Not A Burger Stand for a second time (4 stars first time), bringing along a good friend with a promise of a real treat for breakfast. Sorry to say, the food was mediocre, they did not have some of the ingredients for their limited menu, and the staff would continually leave the door open to the cold outside, and we would have to get up and close it, probably more than a dozen times. Food was not nearly as good as a few months ago. I think this was our last meal there. Maybe their dinners are better, but really can't recommend breakfast - sorry

I like supporting new restaurants, so we went to check this place out on a cold rainy night, drawn in by the promise of home cooked decent food. That was really a half promise. The place is new but has a "distressed" look to it, as though they want to make you feel like this joint has been there for years. Okay, but that's trying to score points in the wrong way instead of focussing on food and service, a common theme I found in the place which is why it led me to my two star rating. There's just an element of misguidedness in here that, with a small amount of realigning, could turn it into a four star joint. The decor is 50s/60s backyard kitsch, going for a friendly homey feel. Right now, I feel like with its scuffed painted chairs, which, frankly, would have made me feel better if the chairs looked new yet retro. The inside is small but fine, with a view of the open kitchen. Note to the staff, even though we're adults I'd watch the cussing at the grill and openly discussing menu items that have sold out already after customers have ordered. Professionalism is a choice and doesn't cost anything. The waitress was nice, though we didn't get much in the way of spot checks for drink refills despite being seated near the waitress station/register/kitchen. The owner seemed fine talking to females, but when I smiled and said hello I got a look that made me feel like I'd made him feel uncomfortable(?). In such a small intimate place, there is no reason not to engage with all your diners, upsell them, thank them, mingle and work the room. That personal touch is terrific, but if it looks like you're just using the place to hit on chicks, that can turn off half your customers (25% men, 25% girls who don't want to be hit on). We ordered a selection of items, including the French Onion soup, which was the best thing on the menu. Guys, I would lead with this, make a song and dance about it, promote it as being THE thing to bring people in because, frankly, it was terrific, and I'm not usually a fan of French Onion soup as it's very hard to get right. The Chilli was good, the beer flavor not too strong, just about right with the balance of sauce and beans and there was alot of meat in it. The fries were not my bag, they were the usual, crisp, very little potato action, alot of people like this type of fry, I'm more of a steak fries person, but as far as the standard fries go, they were fine. The Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Brisket plate. Both slathered in sweet BBQ sauce. The meat tasted dry and overcooked, nothing moist or juicy about it at all. It seemed as though the sauce was drowning the meat to cover up this fact. Infact, it tasted reheated. One of my slivers of brisket was pure fat and gristle (actually, most of it was) and I'm glad I had the forethought to scrape the overdone sauce off the meat to have a look at it. The Pulled Pork Sandwich bun- dry, half toasted, cheap yellow bun. This is a common failing of LA restaurants- nobody focusses on the BREAD. Good bread is as important an element as the filling. A mediocre filling can be excused if the bread is fresh and delicious. There seems to be a general approach to bread in LA that it's not important, it IS. We had a sandwich with dry overcooked meat, slathered in sauce, encased in dry dull bread. The pork cut itself was fine. It needs to be marinating to keep it juicy. Put the BBQ sauce on the side and change up the bread. To make it really fly, try a ciabatta roll, but it has to be fresh or if it's a day old, toast the heck out of it. Just a suggestion. As for the brisket, again, needs to be marinating in its juices, don't serve people strips of gristle, please put the sauce on the side and taste the meat to make sure it hasn't dried up. There's little in the way of good BBQ places in LA, there's a reason for it- treating your meat like this. You have to love it and be passionate about it, otherwise, don't do it. The mac n cheese was fine, though lacked salt and pepper and maybe could have done with a pass of parmesan in the cooking. $11.50 for that and gristly dry brisket? Shocking. I admire that they're trying to do simple home cooked food. That's what they promised, that's what I went there for. I was excited going in and disappointed coming out. The food tastes like warmed up leftovers. Guys, you can totally avoid this, focus on your produce and how it's being prepped. You've given yourselves a simple menu, so attend to the little simple things and you can make this place fly. I'll forgive the paint chipped chairs just keep your brisket and pulled pork moist and juicy and change out that godawful bread for something fresh (Porto's bakery is right up the street, best bread in the Valley) and push the French Onion soup and Chilli. And please do put the BBQ sauce on the side.

Not so long ago when this establishment was The Riverside Cafe no one from my barn would want to go because of the high prices. But now that the very filling and the very affordable Not A Burger Stand has opened up everyone is going all the time, sometimes even twice a day. So far I've had the pulled pork sandwich, which has big chunks of meat topped with a slathering of bbq sauce and a generous helping of fresh, crunchy coleslaw between the buns. I've also tried their mac and cheese (my favorite thing here), sweet potato fries (SO good!), and the green beans, which I thought would be sauteed but seem to be pickled or something. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the green beans. As a side note, I do like the simple menu but I wish they served a wider variety of salads. The owner and the waiters/waitresses who work here here are also very friendly and contribute to the laid-back atmosphere. Just today they were singing 'A Whole New World' in the kitchen, it was pretty hilarious and the girl sang really well. Oh! And before you go you definitely have to try the homemade peach custard pie that comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
