I'm sorry, have I not reviewed this place? Oh Em Gee!!! The pastries are so delicate, fresh and fabuloso! The tea cakes? Soft, moist, not so sweet. I think tea cakes best friends with butter. The cranberry cakes are crumbly on the outer crust, moist on the inside and is a very good friend with butter. Cream horns are amazing and delectable! The cream is soft, fluffy, airy and not sweet at all! The pastry stays intact when you bite into it so you don't lose any bit of carb. Parking is either on street or in their lot. Staff are kind and attentive. Love the carb!

This bakery is mostly known for the their tea cakes. I use to go here a lot when I went to JBHS since it is only a mile away. They open pretty early and close around 6:30pm. They use to be 85 cents per tea cake, but now are $1 each. Their blueberry and cranberry tea cakes are $1.25 even though the sign says $1.05. Hopefully the store updates that soon. The pastries are pretty sweet, especially the tea cakes. I do recommend eating it with hot tea so it is not too sweet for those who don't want something taste that sweet. I tried coming here last week Thursday and they already closed 15 minutes before the time posted to be closed. I recommend coming anytime between 6:30am to 5pm just incase. They have a tiny parking lot, one way drive. Enter from Victory! Not the alley!! You can park on the street as well, free parking.

Tea Cake = Coffee Cake After my morning yoga class, I decided to stop by to pick up some treats. I got a cranberry tea cake, blueberry tea cake, and red velvet cupcake (total $4.10). I tasted both types of the tea cakes, and they were yummy with a cup of Earl Grey. The cake was light, moist, sweet (but not cloyingly) and topped with some crumbs. I thought each cake was sized and priced perfectly for a coffee/tea break. I'd say their red velvet is one of the best ones I ever had. It is cute, moist and subtly chocolatey topped with sweet cream cheese icing. Who knew an unassuming bakery like this one could bake such an awesome red velvet?? I was able to find a parking spot in the private lot right next to the bakery, which was perfect. Not all baked goods looked great, but I'd go back for more tea cakes or try their gelatos!

I'm so glad introduced me to Martinos a few years ago. they are still my favorite place for cupcakes. No frills, very affordable and great quality. Always fresh and delicious :) If you can't stand too much icing, sugar, and bland dry cake- this place is your remedy!!

If you want something light and sweet definitely stop by Martino's for their tea cakes. The original is my favorite. They also have cranberry and blueberry. Those are good but there is something about the original that makes it amazing!!! It is moist and light and has a very light lemon flavor to them. Don't let their appearance fool you. They look simple and ordinary but they pack quite a flavor. I have brought them to countless parties and everyone that has tried them love them. They travel very well. I even flew to Houston with two dozen tea cakes to bring to a BBQ. To this day the guys still remember the tea cakes. They open early so perfect to bring to work. Your coworkers will love you. I find the tea cakes go perfectly with a cup of tea. This place has their own parking lot so you are in and out in a flash. Staff is super friendly. Definitely stop by for a tea cake if you are in the area.

I enjoy how all their tea cakes/cupcakes have the same shape. The uniqueness is in the presentation. They may not rank well on the pastry style list but the taste and balance of cake-to-icing is amongst the best. The mini box thay fits four is a great idea. If you go for the first time and get one tea cake you're bound to grab the mini box to explore their variety.

This is the bakery of them all. I am a great fan of those tasty tea cakes they make. I think it is a combination of caramel and butter crème. They make the best tea cakes I ever had. Also, one of their best creations is coconut cake. I love the creamy frosting, on top of a moist white cake with a lot of coconuts sprinkled all around and over the cake. You must try them, go visit them you will be glad you did.

The original tea cakes here are AMAZING. Everytime i'm in the neighborhood, I always leave with 2 dozen boxes of both their orginal, and bluberry tea cakes. They're simple, but delicious.

Been going to this place since the 70's. We knew the owner but has since passed. Still, the quality remains outstanding and their Russian Tea Cakes are the best around, so moist and not overly sweet. Most people nowadays know these cakes as just "Tea Cakes", but our family and friends call them as they were originally named. You gotta try 'em.

Ordinary bakery store located in Burbank, very colorful and sweet cup cakes. Probably should try something different next time.

Always wanted to try this place. Today I arrived early so I decided to try it out. Got some pastries: raspberry and apricot little pastries, cinnamon cookie and bear claw. All wonderful and delicious. Shared with some friends who all love it. I'd like to try their cakes some times and see how I like them. My initial guess is, I'm gonna like them a lot.

Was getting my windows tinted across the street and figured I'd get the staff some pastries. They have amazing lemon tarts. The guys loved them. Will be back for other pastry needs

Martino's has been around for longer than I've been alive. Spanning multiple locations in Burbank, I have only been to their current one. However I have heard stories of yore as my grandparents eat tea cakes and reminise. Teacakes. Teacakes. I've already said it 3 times. If you do a word count of this page I'd bet that "teacakes" comes up more than anything else. Martino's exists pretty much because of the scrumptious tea cakes. It's hard to describe them. They're frosted and square. Although they look like a cupcake, they are more cousins than sisters. The flavor and feel of the tea cake is quite unique, I really have not consumed anything else like them, ever. Yes, most of the products you see in the case are inticing and tasty, but if you're stumbling apon this yelp page for Martino's, do yourself a favor and go try a tea cake. You can thank us all later.

So Martino's for me is a one trick pony. That one trick is their coffee cake. It's great. Really moist, not too sweet, and tastes completely natural and satisfying. Even the glaze has a nice balance of sugar without being overpowering. But outside of their coffee cake, nothing else looks appetizing and is just basic. Still the coffee cake is worth the visit. Especially if you're in the area. They are super cheap too!

What a cute little gem located in burbank. Had no idea this place existed. Came here because my dad loves their tea cakes and decided to get em for his birthday. Honestly, the tea cake had not a lot of flavor to it, that's why I'm a bit surprised my dad loves them. He's the one that loves anything that is drenched in flavors! Tea cake is just a plain cake that is better eaten with tea, hence the name. If you're a coffee drinker, it's also good with that. It just wouldn't be a good idea to call it coffee cake, then people would be thinking it's coffee flavor. You get my drift. Place was empty when we came, which was understandable because it had been raining like mother nature got drunk and was throwing up water. The girl ringing us up was friendly. she didn't charge us for the writing on the cake, that earned her an extra tip. Which now earned this place an extra star (originally would have given it 3).

I had Martino's bookmarked for awhile now and drive by all the time, but it never looked enticing enough from the outside for me to actually stop and go in. Finally, thought I would give them a chance and went in last weekend. I got the original tea cake as it seemed like a must from what I read on Yelp. $1 is a great price, it was fresh, moist and tasty, though nothing really wowed me, no flavors stood out as me needing to get this again. Also got a cannoli, again fine, not stellar. Florentine cookie, awesome, but they usually are. My son saw the HUGE cream puffs for $1.99 and had to have one. That for sure was the highlight at Martino's. Not so much the taste of the cream puff, but how much my son enjoyed it. I snagged a bite, loved the cream, but the pastry dough tasted very much like egg yolks. Seems like they use an eclaire dough which can have that yolk-ey taste to it. Nice service, clean store, descent selection, don't think I would bother to be back though.

I been curious about all these check-in's at Martino's. Just a few days ago, I was nearby at Quenelle grabbing some ice cream and remembered Ailyne H's review and check in a few days ago at this bakery. I decided to pass by to taste the teacake hype. Martino's is an Italian bakery located just around the corner of Magnolia and Victory that's been around 1926. What is a tea cake?? In my opinion, it's a cross between a muffin and cupcake but square. There's a few flavors: original (buttermilk), blueberry, and cranberry. They also have cupcakes of different flavors and frostings which are also square and some round too. Martino's also makes an assortment of Danish, cakes, eclairs, cream puffs, gelato, cookies, bunt cakes, cannoli. Tea cakes are $1.00-$1.10 each. Pretty good and great with a cup of tea or coffee. Honestly, they're good but I wouldn't drive out to get them. If you're in the area, it's worth a trying and taking half a dozen home. Martino's has a seating area with a TV. Great for the older folks to hang and read a paper. They do serve their deserts at local restaurants, mainly diners, for example, one of the original Bob's Big Boy which is close by.

Martino's came up with a way to hook their costumers..."teacakes"...they simply are the quintessential tea cake, and NO ONE makes a them better than Martino's. I have been hooked on them since I was at Emerson grade school with Linda Martino in Burbank. We where going to Martino's on a class field trip and what I remember about that day was that we where given a big box of teacakes. That did it for me.....and they have tasted still today, as the one I had for the first time!! I believe that was all they made back them. Since then they have moved three times and I have always followed them. The other items in the bakery are not what Martino's is about (pass). They have made a HUGE success from these little confections because they have done this recipe right. They are the TEACAKE BARONS. when you bring a brown box (which has their logo printed on it) to any gathering, everyone jumps for joy. They have darling little boxes which can be wrapped up into nice little presents, which I have done often, and have been much appreciated. For anything else, yes, go to Portos.

  • Ailyne H.

Mmm, tea cakes and banana cream pie are DELICIOUS!! If your sweet tooth is nagging at you, Martinos is a great place to make a quick stop to fulfill your sugary wants. This place is also a great alternative to Portos where the lines can be hectic! You all know what I'm talking about. Anyway the selection is not quite as extensive as Portos but they do have a few superstars making your visit worthwhile, ahem, tea cakes! They're moist and not overly-too sweet. I picked some up for the BF's birthday a couple of years ago and everyone loved them! Private parking lot that may be a little tricky to exit, but street parking is an easy alternative.

Yelp reviewers, you bunch are continuously letting me down with your highly recommended suggestions for subpar foods. You people must have either been raised in a household with an absentee mother or one who knew jack shit about cooking/baking. Yes, their teacakes were moist, but man were they BLAND. All you get out of it is sweetness and moistness. They'd probably sell more if they were to add a little vanilla or lemon extract to their cakes. How about offering a variety for those of us who crave flavor? Let me not even get started with their Chocolate Chip Cookies which tasted of shortening and flour. Who on gods earth uses SHORTENING for cookies??!!!! Not even margarine, but shortening which has ZERO flavor???!!! Are you kidding me? Should've checked the label prior to purchasing a box of these. There were also no spice or extracts detected - zero, nada, zip zilch flavor. When I bake homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies I use REAL BUTTER, Brown Sugar, Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, the most expensive Pure Vanilla Extract money could buy, a pinch of cinnamon and chopped Pecans. They turn out so damn delicious. Well, lesson learned.

One of my coworkers brought some teacakes and Mexican wedding cookies in from Martino's and they were so good! I love snowball cookies or Mexican wedding cookies. These are light and had no shortage of nuts in them. Crispy and not too sweet (thank you!), these are some of the best I've had. The teacake I was told to warm up in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and to me, it was like a lighter, not as sweet (but still pretty sweet by my standards) version of a supermarket bundt cake. But it was so good! Can't wait to try pass by this place in person to take my pick of goodies!

I've been to plenty of Mexican bakeries up and down the state, and even Mexico. This is a typical Mexican bakery. Cheap ingredients, bland flavor, and no reason to be a repeat customer unless its really close to your school or walking distance to your home. Sometimes I wish yelp would only rate a business based on the reviews of friends instead of the general public. As teh saying goes, 'the masses are asses' and positive ratings for places like this on yelp prove it.

  • Monique F.

The tea cakes are perfection, not too sweet. They look kind of blah but just one bite and wow. Worth the drive to buy a couple dozen, you can freeze them for later.

Really good coffee, too. I had an excellent latte and a double espresso. I'm not the greatest cake fan but I'll go out of my way for decent coffee!

This didn't live up to the hype. The tea cakes were just ok. The carrot cake was disappointing. Portos just down the street is much better.

Stopped in here to kill some time before dropping my cousin off at the metrolink station down the street and am now looking forward to picking her up at the end of her semester and trying some more goodies. And the staff behind the counter was really friendly. FOOD: Tea cakes were of course, fabulous. While the glaze on the original flavor isn't teeth-breakingly sweet, I do think the overall cake is too sweet to eat on its own. Definitely better with the prescribed tea or coffee. However, the cranberry and blueberry tea cakes could be eaten all day, every day. They're moist, it stays together and doesn't fall a part into a crumbly mess, but isn't dense, and has just the right amount of sweetness from the berries that complements the cake's lighter sweetness. I also tried the lemon bars and the eclairs. Lemon bars are better than making them from the box, but I've had way better lemon bars by home cooks. I thought the crust for the lemon bars was very blah. Same with the eclair. The custard had a good, smooth texture, but didn't taste of anything. It wasn't sweet, it wasn't creamy. However, the pastry part of the eclair was the right texture, hadn't gotten soggy, and was topped with pretty good chocolate icing. I probably wouldn't order it again, but it was better than the frozen eclairs I've gotten from the grocery. CONS: It's close to $2 to get a tea or coffee in there. That kinda pissed me off. It's drip coffee and tea bags. Granted it's Stash, but for godsake, you're charging me $1.67 for hot water? My small drip coffee was $1.87. Look, I already bought pastry to eat in your store, plus I bought a couple other items to go. Hot drinks should have been a flat $1 with other purchases. If you can't get parking in the tiny lot, you're boned because the bakery is surrounded by autoshops and carwashes. There's a neighborhood nearby, but street parking is so-so in availability.

  • Michael S.

Here it is . . . quick and simple: If you're in the neighborhood, make it a point to stop in for some of their tea cakes. They are the best you will find anywhere. Moist and yummy, not too sweet, and what the place was built upon. However . . . their coffee is just okay, most of their other bakery items are average and overpriced, and their cookies are hard and generic. Parking sucks, so if you don't get a spot on your first pass . . . pass on a visit. My advice . . . make a quick stop, grab the tea cakes and run!

Place is great !! Freshly baked pastries . Good place to also enjoy a coffee with a pastry. Or just take a to go box with some goodies. Girls there are sweet and have great customer service. I can't wait to visit again to fulfill my sweet tooth.

The tea cakes are the best! They are very moist and not too sweet but just delicious! And the prices for the cakes are reasonable and they are a decent size (not too big and not too small). If you're having a tea party, I would buy these cakes in a heartbeat! They have a small parking lot and the service is quick and fast. Yummy!

Best tea cakes in the world. BUT!!! Wife told me to get a dozen and DONT forget. I didn't, but didn't remember till 6:00. But their website said store hours said open 6:00-6:30 on Friday. Went racing down from Sunland to Burbank. Got there at 6:20 but the door hours said "close at 6". Curse ye all business' that don't UPDATE their website. COUCH, here I come and it's ALL their FAULT.

great customer service.. patient, kind friendly; everything you could ask for when it comes to customer service. i need to come here way more often especially since i live so close. i have only tried their tea cakes so far (original, cranberry, blueberry) and oh my goodness!!! my mouth is watering just at the thought of them and now i am wishing they werent closed right now so i could pick some up lol. theyre so moist.. the right amount of sweet.. mmmmm if there is anything you should try before leaving the bakery it would definitely be their tea cakes!! i feel so bad for people unaware of them at the same time wondering how i had lived so long without knowing of their existence as well lol.

How it's taken us this long to try this place I don't know! It was well worth the wait and the hype. The store is well lit with several glass cases displaying all their treats. There were 2 girls working and they were both very nice. We got a small assortment of goodies to try... Original Tea Cakes: these were the bomb!! Just the right amount of sweetness and the cake was very moist Blueberry Crumb Cake: These were also good but not as flavorful as I was hoping for. But I'm a sucker for crumb topping so that made up for it. Honey Bran Muffins: These were a huge hit with both my husband and I! So much flavor going on and the sweet glaze made it feel more like dessert. We will be back very soon to try some of the other goodies they had.

I was roaming the streets of Burbank while waiting on my oil change, when I stumbled upon this bakery shop with a sign that read FREE WIFI!.. I couldn't resist.. Decided to try a chocolate, raspberry cake with chocolate covered strawberries and it was amazing! Also picked up coffee and it was delish! The bakery is clean and the staff is friendly. I'm deducting a star for price. $32.50 for a 7" cake?! HOLY MOLY. They had to have raised their prices since last year. I remember paying $25 not $32! That's very expensive for the size. 1/4 sheet at Costco is like $16.99 and Portos is about $25 for a larger size. If I wasn't being reimbursed through my work I would have said "no way" but the cake was good.

The artificial shortening-goop that they put on their "cream" pies is disgusting. Thumbs down. Why are they even allowed to call it chocolate CREAM pie????

  • Mary A.

Let's keep this simple & short. Nothing beats their original iced tea cakes. Super amazing & moist. They are amazing with a cup of your favorite tea at home. I have tried other flavors such as cranberry, German chocolate, & carrot cake. None can compare to the original one. they carry other stuff there too but honestly just stick to the basics they are good at the Original flavor tea cake!

  • Tai A.

UNFORTUNATELY, i have never been to this place physically, but I have had their Original Tea Cakes, and OMG.... they will probably be the best cakes you will ever devour. When I hear "tea cakes", I imagine people eating them in a classy & dainty manner, but NO. You will want to stuff your face with these. in public. unabashedly. in front of the queen. whilst drooling. and screaming for more. I never knew a cake could melt in your mouth, but apparently, it can. A friend of mine used to live around this area and when he went back home to visit family, he brought me a dozen of them and told me that I can freeze them and they will still be perfectly moist and delicious after they defrost. He was right. It didn't take me very long to get through them all and I'd like to blame it on the fact that I was a ravenous pregnant girl at the time, but I think I would have still behaved the same way even if I wasn't. We recently went to SoCal and I knew immediately that I wanted to go to Martino's at the end of our vacation so that we can bring an embarrassing amount back home with us, but they are closed on Sundays (which was our last day there) and I wanted to cry. Next time, I will definitely plan my vacation in accordance to their business hours.

I've had their Tea Cakes plenty of times throughout the years and they are yummy. For my Mother's birthday this year, I decided to order a Rum Cake from Martino's and walked in to set up all the decorating instructions for the cake. When I went to pick it up on the day agreed upon, it was everything I hoped it would be. Everything I asked for was done. It was delicious and moist. Martin's is going to be my new cake place. I very much recommend their cakes as well as all their other goodies! Thank you so much Martino's, the cake was a hit for everyone in my family!

This is better than a cupcake you would pay 4 bucks for in Beverly Hills. Part cupcake / part donut- they call it a tea cake and its a party for your mouth . Lives up to all the yelp reviews and only a dollar

two words - TEA CAKES!! I'm really considering doing a tea party themed wedding just so i can gorge on them!

  • Chuck A.

If we were reviewing the tea cakes the rating would be much higher, but our family ordered my daughter's wedding cake. The cake itself was pretty good, white cake with raspberry filling. What was sorely lacking was competent help in the ordering of the cake itself. The employee did not explain the order options at all nor the details regarding delivery. The employee in question was already discharged when we contacted the owners. Better oversight and supervision needs to take place when a $900 order is placed. Stick with the tea cakes and muffins but use a European bakery when ordering a wedding cake to make sure you get good ingredients and competent service.

Service could be better/friendlier, however the pastries are delicious! Tea cakes are delectable, and only $1.00 each! The honey-bran muffin top was surprisingly delicious! The gelato is also fresh and tasty, my mother loved each flavor she sampled! I hope to come back here often and have the opportunity to try more things, and I may even order a cake from here for my next party!

i had a tea cake. it was alright. looked cute but not memorable. the other baked goods look......well, they just don't look delicious. and trust me, i love sweets, but nothing looked appetizing for me to buy.....decided on a tea cake since it was only $1. lol i just cant believe i had to FORCE myself to pick a pastry!!! usually i have to stop myself from buying like a whole box. also, their smallest cup of plain coffee (nothing special about it, just a drip) was like $2.50. umm...... i wouldnt come back.

I had learned of this place when I ordered a delicious whole apple pie from Bob's Big Boy restaurant since the pie was in a box from Martino's. A week later, I went to their small place in Burbank. The parking was not good, but walking a block or two allows you to eat more pasteries! The selections were great the prices were very fair. The same pie is a couple of bucks cheaper then Bob's. Also a great selection of teas, coffees and ice creams.

What's a teacake you ask? Well I couldn't tell you except they are cheap and delicious. It's a only $1 each and I would take 3 of these over a gourmet cupcake. The original buttermilk Teacake tasted much like a pound cake and I loooooove pound cake. They are moist and buttery and I could eat them all day long till I explode! The Blueberry and Raspberry Teacake have a crumble on top. They are similar to a coffee cake. Good, but not as buttery as the original. I prefer just the buttermilk teacake. Can't wait to come back!

This place has delicious sweets and staff is friendly. We had the butter cinnamon muffin top, cheese cake and red velvet cake balls. Everything was fresh and amazing!! You have to try the cake balls. The best ones I have ever had. The place is a little pricier than most bakery's but you get what you pay for. For the above and a coffee we paid $12.00. I liked it so much I made a appointment to come cake tasting here.

Martino's to the rescue! It was my mother-in-law's birthday over the weekend and she made us a last minute request for a pineapple upside down cake. So I started to call around to all the local bakeries. Believe it or not, this type of cake is hard to find. I ended up finding Martino's and they also did not have this cake off hand BUT they did offer to bake me one since I was calling within 24 hours' notice. Since it was a special order it ended up being about $40 for ¼ of a sheet. The cake was ready for pick up the very next day. It was really good and everyone LOVED it. We also grabbed a couple of their tea cakes on the way out and were not disappointed. I have heard of this bakery before and am glad that I finally got a chance to use them.

According to Wikipedia a teacake is as follows: "a tea cake is a single-layer lightly spiced spice cake (often made with buttermilk) topped with powdered sugar and often also lightly glazed on top. It may contain fruits such as apricots, blueberries, or cranberries." I am not quite sure the this describes the baked desert that I ate from Martino's. The baked good that I ate tasted like a cupcake base with a sweet glaze on top. The glaze was not overly sweet which is great because that's how I prefer my sweets. I prefer my sweets to not be sweet. If you prefer your sweets not to be sweet then I feel you will enjoy your teacake experience. In fact -- I would rather have a teacake instead of a cupcake. Cupcakes are way too sugary and messy for any one person to enjoy. Hear me out. You see with the cupcake you cannot simply open your mouth and bite into it. You need you expand your mouth oh so wide in order to fit the whole thing in for a bite. You could add silverware to this equation if you felt like it but dude that's completely unnecessary. Teacakes fix this issue for you by being an appropriate height unlike the cupcake which is an inappropriate height. Secondly, as if I had a first point, it would seem that the sweet flavors in the teacake are balanced correctly as opposed to the cupcake in which the sweetness is overwhelming. It's like getting high on a joint compared to getting high on meth. Hear me out. You see I say this because when your body reacts the amount of refined sugar that exists in a cupcake it gives you the same sensation that a crack addict gets when they smoke rocks. It's very unnerving to have this much sugar in your body. It's unnatural. The teacake is a very calming and short lived sugar high. You feel like chilling out on the sofa after eating a teacake and watching a bit of television instead of cleaning your home for 48 hours straight. That's the teacake difference. I respectfully give this place a 4 stars out of 5. The service was good, the pasty I ate was good, and the coffee was standard. Check it out if you're in the area. They've been making pastries in the Burbank area since 1926 and if you're in the baking game that long then you must be doing something right.

This place is fantastic. They have a wide selection of sweets waiting for selection or they do custom orders. Nicole and the other servers are always pleasant and helpful. Best tea cakes in the Milky Way Galaxy. I know, I've tried them all.

Although it's been said in the reviews many times before, I have to give Martinos' 4 stars for just one thing, their tea cakes. I'm not a huge fan of pastry but growing up on these I was saddened to see Martinos close shop several years back. When they quickly reopened in a new location I was happy to know that my once in a while sweet treat was back!

The tea cakes are great! I liked them because they are different than your typical bakery fare--muffins, donuts, pastries etc. The prices are good too! Parking can be a little tough sometimes, but not too bad.. I also love that locals juts go and hang out, have a coffee, and watch the news.

We drove to Los Angeles on 12/27/14 from Sonoma county to visit family in Southern California during the holidays. We purposely planned our trip to make certain we could stop by Martinos to pick up 4 dozen of their famous tea cakes. When we called a recording indicated they would be open until 6 pm that day. After starting out I contacted a relative who was working in the area and he agreed to go by and get our order for us. He arrived shortly after 2 pm and they were closed. He saw people inside and banged on the door, someone saw him outside, but ignored him. He called me to say they were closed. I called and an employee answered the phone. She indicated that they had actually closed at 2 pm that day. I explained that a relative had stopped by and there was NOT a sign on the door indicating the early closure and the voice recording had not been amended. I explained that we had driven down from Northern California and purposely planned our trip to stop by for tea cakes and asked whether they might still be there in 40 minutes, our approximate time of arrival. After checking with someone she returned to say no, they would be leaving the store soon. Needless to say we were very disappointed.

Tea cake is inconsistent, sometimes is so soft and gooey, sometimes the batter is hard as a rock!!! Not sure if they over cooked it or cause they tried to get rid of left over tea cakes from the day before! Please improve it, will come more often.

Best tea cakes ever! I crave these on the daily! The customer service is just as great. People are friendly and give their honest opinion on all goods. I've taken these tea cakes to my friends houses and it's never failed. People always ask for the name of the bakery and the location because it's that good. I've even served these at my birthday party in the place of cupcakes and at the end there were no extras. They are that good!

Just stumbled upon this place. I have to say everything that I tried was delicious. I have tried the original teacake, blueberry teacake, Cinnamon Butter Muffin, Vanilla cupcake, Raspberry danish and Cranberry Muffin. Everything that you try here will be moist and scrumptious. Go try it for yourself. I am going here from now on for baked goods.

As a bakery in whole i give this place a 5. Unfortunately my visit yesterday around 3 pm was a bit disappointing in the service department. There was a younger, thin, dark haired girl who seemed to be more interested in having a lengthy 45 minute conversation with her friends, than actually doing her job. A heavy set woman originally served me and when i wanted a refill of my coffee, standing at the counter want enough to grab her attention, i had to walk to the back and interrupt her conversation and ask her if i could have a refill. Asker then took my cup and asked which flavor, which i was never given an option in the beginning, so i opted for whatever was freshest. The first one she tried was empty, the second one she missed the cup and poured all over plate. She did give me a new saucer, but didn't wipe down the cup so every time i picked it up a little coffee would drip. It just baffles me when you try to give your business to locals over Starbucks or Coffee Bean, that you get second hand service. I would really be striving for that "come back soon" mentality. They definitely dropped the bask yesterday. Will i be back? Yes! I've always enjoyed Martino's... I just hope manager takes note that while the "cast is away, the mice ARE playing". Tisk tisk. As for pastries, the cannoli's, tea cakes, florentine cookies and pies are all delicious. I truly appreciate local bakeries. Ralph's is not a bakery people! Thanks Martino's for 25+ years of great baking!

After driving by this bakery on multiple occasions and at the urging of my daughter, I finally stopped in to pick up some of their famous tea cakes. Let me tell you...The tea cakes definitely lived up to the hype! They are delicious...moist and not overly sweet. And at $1 each, they're also very affordable!

This was a nice little find, after walking around I thought this might interesting. It's a nice little bake shop with decent blueberry muffins. The best part is they also offer gelato which I had they're pineapple. Enjoyable. If I'm ever around I might stop by again

I dropped a friend off in Burbank a week or two ago and decided to visit a random bakery for the heck of it since I'm never in the area. So glad I did because Martino's is a gem! From the outside, you probably wouldn't think too much of it. When you walk inside the bakery, you probably still wouldn't think too much of it. When you're browsing the various goodies in the display cases... you get the point. But order an original teacake, and it will be ALL you're thinking of! The lady that helped me was super sweet, and the tea cakes she boxed for me were mouthwatering delicious. Sweet, super moist, and cheap! I took a few bites in the car in the parking lot and decided to walk back into the bakery to order some more for friends and family. Was the lady surprised to see me? No. She's probably used to it. I also tried the blueberry teacake, which wasn't the same and didn't taste like anything too special. Stick with the original! You'll thank me later. :)

The teacakes are decent. Nothing mind-blowing. I'll eat it if there are some lying around at work but wouldn't go out of my way to buy them. My main problem with them are their cupcakes! I tried three different flavors: chocolate, carrot cake, and red velvet. They are equivalent to the cupcakes sold at Ralphs or Vons. Actually no, scratch that. I've had better at Ralphs or Vons. The carrot cake was the worst. It didn't even taste like carrot cake. The chocolate cupcake tasted like artificial chocolate, bleh. If you absolutely have to get one of their cupcakes, get the the red velvet. At least that one is on par with the ones sold at the markets.

This is a cute little bakery that has delicious tea cakes. I stop by whenever I'm having my car washed. I like to sit here and have my tea cakes. I bought my Mom her birthday carrot cake from here which was really yum! I recommend this place for their cakes big and small. LOL

I would give the place the benefit of the doubt but an upstanding bakery shouldn't offer a variety of STALE BREAD... Tried a few things including the tea cakes and I wasn't impressed.. You're better off at a hole in the wall donut shop, it's CHEAPER too

Best tea cakes I've ever tasted (it is what they're known for), $.80-.85 ea! =) Well their famous tea cake flavor is the buttermilk! And mmmm is it sooo good! It goes really well with milk. Like myself, other people came in around 5pm---almost to closing time...and had to have these little tea cakes to bring home or to snack on. I wish I had gotten them right out of the oven, but even so---they're still divine. They had other types of cakes and gelato too. But their tea cakes are just to die for!!!

Yummy tea cakes! I can't believe i haven't been to Martino's Bakery since my daughter was going to Village Christian Middle School and yesterday on our way to the Burbank Airport to take her back to return to New York she wanted to buy some of their famous Tea Cakes and i am so GLAD we did! We bought her a box to take home since they do not have a Martino's in NYC and i bought a few for myself to eat as well. I love them they are so delicious and fresh every bite just melts in your mouth....unbelievable they are off Victory the street is very congested and the parking lot is very small but it is worth going too.

If you are a Burbank-ian, you will definitely be familiar with Martino's Bakery and it's famous tea cakes. They have a great variety of all sorts of baked goods: cookies, cupcakes, muffins, muffin tops, pies, breads, cakes, cake pops and they also serve gelatto. My favorites are their coconut macaroons, blueberry tea cakes, cinnamon sugar muffin tops. I usually order and pick up my pies from them for Thanksgiving. NOTE: they make excellent photo cakes. One of the few places in town I know of that still does this.

One of the last things I want to eat before I die? Martinos tea cakes. If you're going down victory to Krispy cream in Burbank just stop and turn around for martinos. Hands down, these can become an addiction. They are not too rich, not too sweet, and priced just right at $1 for the original flavor. The glaze is amazing, and I hear the secret to this recipe is the "cooked butter milk" in the batter which gives it some Carmelized tones and signature flavoring. These are great with coffee, tea, and milk. If you haven't had one before or in a while, please go and eat one for me. Five star must!!!!

  • Richard R.

The cupcakes are good. They are famous for their teacakes, which aren't bad, but not sure why people love them so much. Maybe because they are only $1? My biggest issue here, is that the staff is nice but really dense. They ignore you while you are waiting to order. You could easily stand there for 10 minutes with the person behind the counter doing absolutely nothing, they will walk by you, and never ask if you want to order or need help. If there are several people in line, and 2 people working, one of them will futz around with napkins, clean a counter, etc instead of helping with the line. Eventually, they will get around to helping. Makes absolutely no sense.

best. teacakes. ever. i went to HS in the city of Burbank so having Martino's around was a luxury. They make the best tasting, moist teacakes you'll ever have. You have to get at least 6. They fit perfectly in the brown boxes they have... They're definitely the most popular thing this bakery makes. I've had other pastries here. They're good but it's still all about the famous teacakes. The frosting, the cake itself... the aroma. get some! they have their own parking lot so that's a plus.

LOVE their tea cakes! It's always a treat when a friend or family member brings some tea cakes to a party/get together! It's hard to explain the taste of the tea cake, but all I can say is that it's sweet and DELICIOUS!

I could eat Martino's tea cakes forever... These tea cakes has the right amount of sweetness and looks cute too! :) I usually buy these tea cakes for my husband's birthday since he doesn't like cakes. And Martino's will allow you to change the frosting color to any color you choose... just let them know 1 day in advance. They are always a hit at a party or event. *sigh* just writing this review is making me want one... This is the bottom line... I LOVE Martino's tea cakes and so will you! :)

3 days before our rehearsal dinner, I asked my then-fiance if he had arranged for the groomscake. Of course, he forgot! Having tasted the delicious martino's cakes on other occassions, we drove straight over and asked if they would be willing to put together a groomscake for us on such short notice. They happily said "OK!" After hearing the flavor we were looking for, they suggested we try their famous tea-cakes beacuse they can make them in full size! We paired that with a delicious fudge frosting. It looked great, was ready on time and, I have to admit, everyone at our rehearsal dinner went on and on about how delicious the cake was. I've never seen anyone rave this way - most of the time it's about gobbling it up and going home. Thank you, Martino's!!

ORIGINAL TEA CAKES! Just get those, you won't be sorry. They are addicting. You really won't want to stop at one. The glaze is just amazing. I've tried other things like the cupcakes which are okay, and the muffin tops which were good too. Just get the tea cakes! So affordable and sooooo good!

Not sure why all these reviews are about the tea cakes. Yes, they are great, and have a delicate, butter/brown sugar flavor. The real money is in their chocolate cake and the coconut cream pie. If you have ever been to original Phillipe's- the original French dip place by Chinatown and union station, this is the bakery that has always made their baked goods. If that isn't endorsement enough, stop reading and go eat mcdonalds. Martino's makes banana cream, coconut cream, apple, high apple, and berry pies. They are just usually in the refrigerated case behind the counter, so most people don't to know to ask. About to do the 6 hour drive home and really craving the coconut cream, but Chinatown is a beast at 5p on weekdays due to LA traffic, so why not head over to the source and get a whole pie? My waistline doesn't need it, but that coconut cream is a balm for the soul. The tea cakes are great with a light, delicate flavor. We pick some up if we stop here. Their muffins are great, but I prefer Portos bakery for that. I'd say if you want a 5 star experience stick to the cream pies, the tea cakes, and the chocolate cupcakes because they do chocolate cake right. Moist and densely fudgy. The only cake I don't like is their white cake. Even their cupcakes are dry. We took home a box of tea cakes, chocolate cupcakes including regular frosted, German chocolate, and coconut covered, plus the less sweet blueberry and cranberry. And my pie. That's the kicker here. Staff is nice enough and they sell iced tea, coffee, and even espresso drinks, fountain beverages, and some bottled juices. Their Mexican tea cookies are good, but not as round and sugar covered as I like. I like their butter sprinkles better, but I'm a sucker for sprinkles. They have a small parking lot that makes finding a spot easy. I'd say visit at least once.

As a former executive at The Walt Disney Studios I had been buying baked goods here for years. A few times a week I would come for the delicious NUT ROLLS and as I mentioned this was for years. I now live in La Jolla and my girl friend who lives in Toluca Lake would stop in and buy as many as they would have and bring them down to me. Unfortunately, the last several times they were sold out so, both today and last Friday she called and asked to have 6 put aside and even offered her credit card details. Last week they forgot to do this and so she wasted both her valuable time and gas going there. Once again she called yesterday and once again they forgot.. Their cakes are good but their customer service is unacceptable. I will not trade there again. signed, A Dissatisfied Long Time Customer!

This place always seems empty when I go for some reason. However, their tea cakes are really good. I think it's a Burbank "secret". It doesn't seem to be as famous outside if Burbank as Porto's baked goods, however, sometimes- most times, I can't resist eating a tea cake if people were to put one in front of me.

Holy crap! The cupcakes are sooo good and reasonably priced. I can't wait to try the tea cakes that everyone is raving about, if they are anything like the cupcakes, I'm in big trouble.

I would give 5 stars if we were only grading on tea cakes and the like. Unfortunately, anything here in a bag or a box has been really awful. I do not recommend buying anything unless it is behind glass. We got biscuits today that smell like cake and taste way too sweet. We were not expecting that. Packaged cookies here have been a huge let down. Stick to individual pastries if you come here. And yes, service is still slow.

Loved their baked goods! Fresh and tasty. Lemon Poppyseed Muffin, Raspberry Danish, Chocolate Croissant, their Original - Blueberry - and Cranberry Tea cakes were all wonderful. Very solid and good bakery with reasonable prices. I think their Danish was around $2.25 but it was HUGE! Better than what you would eat at Coffee Bean or Starbucks. No line. Nice Service. Also, bought an Iced Coffee that I thought tasted better and was cheaper than Starbucks. Can't wait to go again. Didn't have a problem with parking but I went at 11am on a Thursday.

Amaze. Someone just dropped them off for me at the office and it was seriously one of the best, most moist little dessert moments I've ever had. And everyone I shared with in the office thoroughly enjoyed - asking me where they're from and causing me to look this up now!

Teacakes are good, the service is inconsistent. My preference is the teacakes at United Bakery on Flower Street in Burbank. The story goes when the original Martino's Bakery was sold to the Pepperidge Farms division of Campbell Soup in 1980, Amerio Corradi, Baker Chef, sold his recipes to United Bakery and went to work for them. The new Martino's Bakery opened in 2006. There is a slight difference between the teacakes, but both are good. But the biggest difference is price. Martino's teacakes are .25 higher than United's. That's $3 more a dozen.

This place is like a old Vegas hotel that was once the talk of the town, but now the owners think their britches are too good to care and the details are long forgotten. Service: Friendly, my first time they let me try a tea cake for free and I bought 2 boxes for work. But they did not know what pies they had for the day in the back and it took a while to get their attention. The place looked like a sad empty bakery, not a place I'd stay and enjoy a baked good. The good: Over all the recipe for their tea cakes at $1 each hasn't changed much and people love them. The bad: Everything else I've seen or tried is just mediocre. They close right at 6pm. I get it, no one buys donuts in the morning but for those of us who work 8-5pm and cant get there by 6pm then you lose our business. Summary: I would stop to get tea cakes again but I think this place has so much more potential. It is right next to downtown Burbank, office buildings, and homes. They could serve better coffee, have better prices, focus on the rest of their bake goods to make them worthy of the name, FIX THEIR WEBSITE!, and make it a place to not only buy tea cakes but to relax and enjoy a coffee and dessert. They could be a Portos but instead they are barely a step above a donut shop.

So sorry I tried this place... AGAIN. After 40 years of this ( in its former manifestation ) being my one and only go to bakery... The dream is dead and buried. I came in on a Tuesday to order a cake for Thursday... Nope...they require 7 days notice. Not a decorated cake... Not a wedding cake... I wanted a chocolate round cake with chocolate icing... Like they had in the case RIGHT THERE! for Thursday... Nope. Not apologetic not helpful... Just no. Glad business is so great you can just refuse basic orders... You lost me as a customer.

The tea cakes are so delicious! The decor isn't all that but the pastries really speak for themselves. I love the muffin tops, rolls and cupcakes but their tea cakes are by far the best thing they make. They have such a unique, light, rich taste to them. I could eat a whole dozen every week

Anyone who writes a negative review on Martino's I kind of take personally. Being a very proud born and raised Burbank resident, I have grown up on Martino's Bakery. They used to be delivered to my school and, as a wee one, I would buy one every morning for breakfast for about 20 cents. Martino's is not only a great bakery with delicious sweets and wonderful cakes, but it is also a staple in our community. With every chain business that has been popping up recently on what seems to be every other corner, killing that "hometown feeling" of Burbank, it's good to know that businesses like Martino's are still around and thriving. Thank you Martino's for sticking around so long. Also, thank you for making such a wonderful cake for my company's 50th anniversary. Everyone kept asking "Where did you get this cake?!?! It's delicious!!" Thanks again Martino's!!!

If you need to grab a box of goodies to bring to someones house or to an event, Martino's tea cakes will do. They sell them by the box full or individually if you would like. I've tried both the original and blueberry teacakes and would say they were all just average tasting. I can't say I'm really a fan but when I bring these pastries somewhere, other people seem to really enjoy them. So they're worth checking out.

I hate to give only 4 stars, and it is only based on about a half a dozen visits. Pros: I love their coffee, always fresh, the muffins are wonderful, I like the poppy seed and cranberry, the nut rolls, maple danish, bearclaws were good, gooey and sweet but for me that's how I like them. The apple turnovers are the best in the city. The service is usually pretty good and friendly, they messed up a few to-go orders but it happens and they were busy. Cons: OMG the banana cream pie! It was undoubtedly the worse pie I have ever had in my life. The taste was disgusting, very medicinal. The cream top tasted nothing like whipped cream, the filling was a gross artificial yellow color and the bananas weren't sliced, big hunks of 1/3 pieces of the banana and they were black. Even though it was $12.00 we immediately threw it out. This was a Thanksgiving pie so I assume it was baked fresh. But the ingredients were just horrible. I should have taken it back. Prices are pricey, but it's Burbank I guess. I will still go back for my coffee and bearclaw...Yum.

I've driven by this place countless times over the past few years, until finally, a few months ago, while waiting for my car to be washed, I decided to check it out. The teacakes are delish, as are the lemon bars (perfect balance of sweet & tart!),blueberry muffin was yummy, and most other things I've tried there since are pretty darn good. Prices are also very reasonable, comparable to Porto's. 3 stars on Yelp says "A-OK", and that's how I feel about Martino's. Though the food's pretty good and I wouldn't be adverse to buy a box of tea cakes to take to a party, service is always somewhat curt and/or sloppy, the lattes often taste burnt (inexperienced staff?), and I wish they indicated prices on the whole cakes/pies etc. It's just a pity, because this bakery has been around in Burbank for a long time, and I would hate for it to go under. It has so much potential, and if the owners/management are reading this, I hope they invest time, effort and money in training better staff.

Taste: 4 Creativity/Authenticity: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 4 Bang for your buck: 3 writing this review is really hard because well reading all the other reviews about how bad the service is here how the tea cakes here are ok. So i took my friend here to buy her tea cakes for her bday because she's gotten one for the last 20 years of her life, this was on a thursday afternoon place was empty so customer service was great, they had everything in, no shortages of tea cakes or nut rolls. Now to the main topic the tea cakes, ive had some at martinos and united bakery and supposedly the story behind this is united has the original recipe, both taste the same to me, you have to get them right out the oven to really tell the difference. But overall this place is great so far

I'm all but fuming after today's encounter... A couple weeks ago, I ordered sweets for a co workers birthday. They were supposed to be ready for pickup at 10am. I spoke to 3 different people confirming the time for pick up. They were not ready on time, nor did they even have enough supplies in the store to fulfill the order. Not wanting a mistake like this again, I placed a cake order A WEEK IN ADVANCE. Since the person that we were getting the cake for was going to be leaving early, I asked for a 7am pickup. This should have been fine since the bakery opens at 6am...and...you know...I gave them a week's notice. The guy that took the order seemed clueless. Despite his poor phone etiquette (yelling to people while on the phone rather than covering the mouth piece or putting me on hold), he didn't know the answer to any of my questions. Simple questions like "what kind of cakes do you have?" and "what are my options for frosting?". I confirmed the order with him twice as I felt unsure, and also had him fax me an invoice with the details. All seemed fine. I even called a second time and spoke to a manager to confirm. All seemed fine. My PA gets there an hour after the cake is supposed to be ready and it's not ready! I called to see what the hold up was and they said their decorator was out sick and they could have the cake to me by 9:30am. 9:30!? That's 2 and a half hours after I needed it and by that time, the person it was for was going to be gone! Not once did they say sorry and only after I brought it up did they offer a 10% discount. TEN PERCENT for this headache and potentially having the cake not even get here in time? No. I'm sorry but your 6 dollars off will not help me. The guy that was picking up the cake was a full hour late to work because of this fiasco leaving us short staffed in the office. All in all it was just horrible customer service. I understand people getting sick, that's fine, but then call the customer and tell them there will be a delay. Get organized, Martinos. My family owns a bakery out of state and I know that pre-orders account for a huge percent of your profit. If you can't do those right, you should not take them.

I'm bumping this review up to 3 stars... because I am not sure if maybe I just didn't have the right thing. The people who work here are all very nice... however, they are always talking negatively about "yummy cupcakes"...which was pretty meh. Not very professional for one place to be "badmouthing" another place... so eh. Anyway, I tried a cupcake here... and they're square... which was pretty unique. The cupcakes themselves are pretty meh. I'm sad to report that they taste like a Ralph's cupcake. Nothing special, sadly. I've read that the tea cakes are good... so maybe that's what I should have tried instead. Oh well.

Yum Yum Yum YumYum YumYum YumYum Yum....Did I say Yum! I needed a mini Birthday Cake for my husband who loves soccer. I was also looking to surprise him/us with the sex of our baby by having someone put the color frosting in the middle of the cake depending on what the sealed envelope from our doctor said. I walked here because It was so close to my work and they were so nice! They were also excited for me, which made me happy. I ordered a Red Velvet cake, but with butter cream frosting since I hate cream cheese frosting, and seriously, the cake was so yummy. I probably ate the whole thing myself. Although I am pregnant and always craving sweeets!!! I applaud their awesome attitudes, and for making me a perfect little cake for cheap, and quickly! Thanks a bunch!!!

The only thing I've ever had from here are their Tea Cakes and thats all I really need! They are beyond delicious! This is my daughters favorite "dessert". I enjoy them with my morning coffee. They are so addicting! The cake is so light and fluffy but its the icing that "tops the cake"! My hubby like to have it a la mode! We went there on the spur of the moment and ordered 3 dozen for hubby's morning staff meeting. They had them ready in just a few minutes! A must try treat! Sadly, the meeting might start with only 2 dozen! Haha!

I visited this bakery on a Saturday near to closing time. Perhaps that is why the staff seemed a little-bit off...they were not friendly or energetic. I got their famous tea cakes to go and there were not as good as I remember them but they were still okay. Due to the time, I didn't get a chance to hang-out at their cafe but they do have tables and chairs and offer free wi-fi.

This was my first time here. Cute little bake shop. I ordered a cannoli and a cappuccino (best cappuccino I've ever had btw) and my little sister ordered a vanilla cupcake with butter cream icing. The cannoli was delicious! so creamy and crunchy I tried a bite of my little sister's cupcake and it was so fluffy and yummy, not too sweet. To go we ordered 2 blueberry muffins, 2 blueberry tea cakes and a raspberry danish. They were all yummylicious! I can't believe I have driven by this place so many times and had never stopped in! I can't wait to go again! The only complaint I have is one of their staff members was a bit rude. Her answers were so short when I asked her a question about some items. Thankfully, the other staff person that helped us out was a sweetheart and went the extra mile and that made up for her. People: if you are not a people person, don't work in retail/customer service!

Teacakes!!!! I have no idea where else to get them if anywhere, but these are the best ever!!!. The other baked goods I've tried - muffin tops, mini coconut cake, bear claws, cookies - are all delicious, but none compare to the teacakes. I always have to have at least two ( thus I try not to come here too frequently)....

Tea cakes are sooo yummy! They are perfect for every occasion or no occasion at all, but perfect for making someones day or having at home for the family. I buy these by the dozen like almost all of the customers do, you can't buy just one of two :) My sister and I stopped in here for their re grand opening and she told me we have to get the gelato - I would have never tried it, but oh my! it was SO good, The tiramisu was the best and my favorite by far. My Mom loves the macaroons. Go here, get the tea cakes, be happy :) and leave with a scoop of gelato for the ride home.

Great stuff for years. DON'T BUY THE CANNOLIS!!!!! They're nothing like cannolis. More like loose runny bavarian creams in a soggy shell with WAY too much booze in them. The worst cannoli I've had in my life. Had to throw them out. THROW OUT A CANNOLI?!?!

Tea Cakes!!! This is the best bakery for tea cakes ever! I go out of my way for these and now Ive discovered that they will deliver. YEA! The tea cakes are phenomenal! This is a full pastry bakery but I always get the little tea cakes. Come Hungry!

Who in their right mind has not had their tea cakes???? If that's you...check yourself in the looney bin. At under a buck a piece, you can't go wrong. Honestly, I've NEVER seen tea cakes anywhere else and I don't care to search somewhere else to compare. The maple frosted spongy deliciousness is gone in 3 bites, then you yearn for another and another.....you don't feel guilty until you actually realized you finished the whole box!!!!! Yeah it's that good. So go get yourself a dozen or two.... Then chow down.. Don't be the loser who hasn't heard of Martino's.

I finally had the chance to taste their original tea cake and it was good, nothing special. I also took home a maple pecan bundt cake which ended up being quite stale.

This is a nice little bakery in classic Burbank. It's a local gem that is worth a trip for some great cakes and other desserts like gellato. The tea cakes are delicious and the price is very reasonable. You will be in and out quickly since some of the popular items are already boxed up in anticipation of the sales demand. Parking is available in the adjacent lot on premises.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Martino's! It has been over 2 years since I've last dropped by to pick up their teacakes. First had taste of heaven close to 5 years ago when my friend's gf (now wife) brought some out to A One in HB. Another friend was working on his car and jokingly my buddy said I was only allowed one! After a quick 5-6 bites, I was begging for another one. The original teacake was moist and freaking hella good. I have had their cranberry and their blueberry teacakes but my all time favorite one is definitely the original. If you're in the Burbank area...Martino's is definitely worth a visit.

Watch out for this bakery. They do a bait and switch with prices! Not good business practice or customer service. Pastry rather tasteless too. Such a shame since they have been around forever.

I decided to give this bakery a try after hearing so much about their tea cakes. Walked in one afternoon. It was empty which was nice, cause i didn't have to wait in line. Service was good. I was telling one of the employees that it was my first time there, and the manager (well, i'm assuming it was the manager) overheard me say that and decided to give me a tea cake on the house so that i can taste it. I must say it was delicious. Very moist, light, fluffy! I took home an assortment of cupcakes and teacakes. Definitely a fan and would will go back for some more!!! :)

I grew up eating these tea cakes when I was young. I moved to the east coast and have not had them in over 40 years. I would give anything to be able to have one again. These are awesome I can't tell you how good they are. Tamara B.

I drove into an empty parking lot, parked, walked into an empty store with empty shelves, and was finally greeted by a lady with an empty glare. Me: "Which ones are your famous teacakes?" Lady With Empty Glare (LWEG): "Right over here." Me: (Has sad look while peering at the square sugar-coated things) "Ok. Thanks." LWEG: "First time here?" Me: "Yes." LWEG: "Come over here. Eat this." Me: "Really?" LWEG: "Yes, grab it. It's good." Yes, it's goooooooooooood. My empty tummy and almost lost appetite made a complete 180 and I was bouncing up and down uncontrollably..in my heart. I asked if the cranberry teacakes were any good..LWEG replies, "Yes, want one?" I had to deny, since I was taking half a dozen more home. I also got a chocolate baby eclair, but teacakes are all I needed. I swear, right as my body was exploding w/ joy (slight exaggeration), a flood of people rushed in, they must have heard the fireworks, and getting out of the lot was a pain. It was 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, an hour before closing. I hear she sells at least 1,000 a DAY. ONE DAY!! Incredible For 80cents each, I can't eat a sweet thing anywhere else but here.

I am not much of a sweets fan, but Martino's makes the most amazing tea cakes in the world! I was introduced to them as a child via our Helm's Bakery Truck man, Mack, who would arrive every Saturday morning in front of our house. (Yes, Martino's are the geniuses that supplied Helms with all their tea cakes!) This was the one thing I would pick out every single week... crumbly, moist yellow cake with a unique and velvety icing. It's simple and delicious and like nothing you've ever had. Grab a few for your next Sunday brunch, and you will be the most loved person in the world. Enjoy one with some coffee. Fashion a 4x4 birthday cake from 16 of these amazing squares of awesomeness. The possibilities are endless and these are a must-try!

ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS! NO PRESERVATIVES! Whew! Just wanted to say that first. haha! Sorry for the caps. Tea cakes are yummy, but I have to give their vanilla cupcake with milk chocolate frosting my uber cheer! It is just SO SO good! I hate when cupcakes are too sweet or taste like baking soda. This cupcake tastes like pure deliciousness! They also serve gelato which is nice. Their staff is kind and helpful. Bearclaw is also YUMMY!

Man this place takes me back. I remember grade school when we'd celebrate good grades, good tests, and all that jazz with tea cakes from Martino's. Yummy. I also remember bday cakes and classroom pastries from Martino's through junior high and high school. Even now, it's just as good. Tea cakes are seriously my definition of crack. So irresistable! Wish I lived closer. Actually, scratch that or I'd be fat. But I love it here.

My first Martino's experience was 5 minutes ago. I am in heaven. The teacakes are so orgasmic. They are nice and buttery with a smooth texture and uber moist! They remind me of home in Atlanta GA! Thanks Martino's!

The best Tea Cake available. The Original Buttermilk Tea Cakes are the best. Martino's has been around since 1926, and the flavors and textures prove they know what they're doing. Fantastic!

I have been going to Martino's Bakery for 10 years. They have the best tea cakes I have ever tasted in my life! And the taste is always consistent, ( not like some places where their goods are delicious one day and hard as rocks the next).

Ok I came here because I tried a tea cake from here at a potluck and it was good. supposedly this bakery some say might be better than portos. but no even though portos is so massed produced now it is still better. this place has such a small selection and the things I tried were the best looking things and were not good an almond bear claw really dense and too lemony yes lemony not almondy besides the tea cakes nothing else here is good but even those they have different flavors and they all taste exacltly the same.

Martino's is famous 'round these parts for the tea cakes, to me they seem a bit greasy (sacrilege!). But for Pi day (3.14) I bought three whole pies to take into work. Got Banana, Pecan, and Pineapple, had to try all three (for science!) and all were excellent!!! Highly recommended! So you're missing out if you limit yourself to the tea cakes, can we at least agree on that?

TEA CAKES TEA CAKES TEA CAKES!!! yum yum and yummmm... =P I would always get the regular tea cakes and someone from work brought in the bluberry tea cakes with powered sugar..OMGG it was soooo goooodd!! TEA CAKES! It's all about the teacakes. Everything else is ehh.. the cakes are ehhh.. But I have traveled far to satisfy the teacake fix. The original is the best because it's got that glaze.. The blueberry one is presented with powdered sugar, doesn't look as fluffy, and doesn't really taste like blueberry. So each teacake is like a dollar, maybe less. And it's ten times better than any ritzy cupcake store trying to exploit you out of three dollars (yes you Sprinkles and Violets in Pasadena). I shall leave with a positive note: instruction on how to get to Seventh Heaven. Get that teacake, pop it in the microwave for 9 seconds, cup of cold milk.. insert... close eyes.. sip milk.. yes, that's orgasmic.

    (4)
  • Jane L.

Their original tea cake is very tasty. The glaze has a maple flavor. Their blueberry tea cake is less sweet, but pretty dense in texture. Parking was easy, and service was good!

Martinos is a family bakery famous for their tea cakes.. The blueberry are my favorite. You can also grab a cappuccino or cuppa and enjoy a pastry, or have an Italian ice while you order. A friend who grew up in Burbank recommended them to me.

cute little bakery that you might miss if you keep driving on victory blvd. found out about them on yelp and stopped by for the famous tea cakes. glad i did. soft cakes. nice icing. like a donut, but not really. any place that has been around since 1926 can't be wrong.

I remember this place when it was back on Alameda. The new building is much nicer, very clean and well organized with their displays. Usually in a bakery if it looks good, it is good. Love the cake balls and the cookies. I don't eat tea cakes as they are for girls. My girlfriend tells me they're great. A Burbank institution you should be buying baked goods from every week.

Martion's Buttermilk Teacakes!! This square shaped buttermilk tea cake is just sooooo goood! The cake has a simple but unique flavor and it's frosted with a thin layer of icing... just sweet enough that it balances the whole thing out. It 's amazingly simple but really yummy. I live really far away from Martino's but I was once so obsessed with their Teacakes that I tried to bake my own version. Needless to say, Martino's can't be duplicated; they've got that family recipe perfected! I suppose I should be glad that I live far away from Martino's otherwise I'd have their teacakes way too often! :8)

Martino's has been in Burbank forever. We got our wedding cake from them back in 1982. But the best thing s are the tea cakes. Square pieces of goodness. It is all I can do to avoid eating half the box on my way home. You want to be popular at work, bring in a couple dozen tea cakes instead of doughnuts.

    (4)
  • Logan S.

They have amazing tea cakes- back lack on everything else. I wanted to love this bakery- but they need to get ORGANIZED. The morning rush is a free for all. They have no organized line and people constantly cut. The staff is often confused and doesn't know their own inventory. They often don't bake enough of their popular items (out of chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins- REALLY?). Also, they frequently have kids running behind the counter. Go for the tea cakes, and try to leave as fast as you can.

I've given this place a few tries, hoping that the next time will be better. And I always leave with a bleh feeling. Had their Tea cakes, shmea-cakes... Blah Blah... Just mediocre. I've also tried their cupcakes, cake balls, cookies, their Danishes, and fritters..Nothing to write home about. Their service sucks also. It clearly says free wifi on their window and the lady rolled her eyes like I was bothering her when I asked for the code after I just made a purchase. Almost forgot, they don't have a menu board or any menus which I found confusing as I wasn't sure what type of drinks they offered. Really, save your time and money. I recommend a drive down the street to Portos! Portos will never let you down:)

I called to reserve some baked goods two times in a row, and both times the person "forgot" to put them on hold, even though the second time I gave her my credit card number and it made it clear when I would be picking them up. No yummy nut-rolls are worth being treated like this (twice!), I'm done with this place.

A buddy and I hurried all over trying to find a place to get a cake for the girlfriends. Being male, we decided to wait til the last second to go out and buy one. Well, after a bit of searching, we found Martino's. I have to say...it was a great find. The girls there were able to accomodate us immediately even though it was such short notice. We ordered a red velvet cake and a few short hours later...I was able to pick it up. Everyone who had some of the cake later that night said they enjoyed it very much. I'll continue returning to Martino's for my cake orders.

Such. A. Good. Deal. In the mood for cupcakes? On a budget? Try Martinos. They don't have all the fancy different kinds of cupcakes that the big (read: expensive) cupcake places like Sprinkles or Yummy cupcakes have, but they do have really moist, tasty chocolate ones. Martino's is a nice clean bakery - with gelato! They have a friendly staff, ample parking, and it's so affordable, you feel like you're getting away with highway robbery! If you're in the area, and craving something sweet, try Martino's. You'll love the cupcakes, and definitely try a teacake - those things are addicting!

I needed a place to chill while I was getting a car wash, and this place was awesome! Friendly, attentive wait staff. Plenty of seating. Free wifi, though I couldn't get it to work. The cannoli I had was fantastic. The cheesecake was mediocre. Coffee was ok. I really would like to try more desserts; they seem to be known for tea cakes. Also, it was $6 for everything!

  • Ed L.

These teacake things are unbelievable. Office got them as a gift and boxes vanished in seconds. Cake is very moist yet spongy. It has that great egg flavor and the icing adds just the right amount of sweetness. You don't gotta be a fat kid to love this cake. Although you might become one after a dozen of these bad boys..

    (5)
  • Leese V.

Not only are their teacakes to die for and so delicious they also have yummy brownies that are fudgy and out of this world. If you are looking for a great cake they offer great selections as well. Nothing beats their specialties and if you go there once you will keep going back for more!!!!!!!!

  • Allie K.

I came here to try out the cupcakes after reading all the rave reviews. My thoughts? - I love that they have a parking lot. Seems simple enough, but it's so much more convenient than street parking which can be busy in this area. - The place was very clean and organized. - The prices are so cheap it's almost unbelievable. You feel like you're ripping them off. I got a mini red velvet cupcake (which is on par with a regular sized cupcake at most places) and a chocolate/chocolate cupcake with sprinkles for a grand total of $2.38. Yeah, you read that right. You can't even get a single cupcake elsewhere for that price. The red velvet was unique compared to most that I've tried. I can't be sure, but I think they put a little lemon zest into the frosting and the cake. Nothing overpowering, but just a hint to make it stand out among the rest. The cake was moist and the frosting was nice and thick and had the good cream-cheesy tang. The chocolate was also good, but what you'd expect. The cake was moist again and the frosting was generous but not overpowering. I'll definitely be back for more.

One of the best bakeries around! They have fresh baked cookies, delicious pies (pumpkin, custard, apple, boston cream), lemon bars, and TEACAKES!! They definitely know what they're doing at Martino's! Try the teacakes!! They're amazing! I've yet to meet a person who did not enjoy them. So what are they? Well, I'd try to describe them but honestly, words just can't do them justice. A dozen is $6, I strongly recommend you get a dozen and share them with friends/family!

I don't know what it is about Burbank but there is quite a variety of high quality bakeries. We had the pleasure of visiting Martino's and sampled a variety of baked goods. Everything was good but the original teacakes stole the show. The prices are reasonable as well, so picking up a dozen (or two) for the trip home is not such a big deal. Another surprise was the almond cookie that resembled a brittle. We got a couple, tried them at home, and wished we had more. They don't keep well past a day or two, so next time we'll just get enough to satisfy a craving.

  • Michael T.

I hired Martino's to make the pies for my wedding. I ordered ten different pies for a Sunday wedding. Martino's is not open on Sundays. I was fully prepared to have to pick them up the day before and store them. Martino's arranged to have them delivered that morning for a very reasonable fee. After the wedding- which was amazeballs all over- people commented how the pies were some of the of the best they had ever had.

The cookies were ok but service is the worst! They have the rudest salesperson I have ever experienced. It's not like I had a custom request or anything...I just needed two dozen cookies. The sales girl acted as as if I was the biggest bother in her life that afternoon. I will not be returning to that place! I would rather drive for hours to any other place than eve deal with their service!

3.5 Stars. Apparently, this old school bakery is famous in the Burbank area. Last night, the boy picked up a buttermilk cake for Mama Lo's birthday. It was beautifully decorated, much like a spring basket of gold flowers. For a minute, I waited for Mary Poppins to jump out in a paisley-printed bikini. Classy, indeed. The four layered cake was very sweet, and the cream had an extremely thick and heavy consistency. Although quite delicious (especially with vanilla ice cream), I prefer the taste and lighter texture of Asian-style cakes. Another point goes to my yellow peoples.

I stopped by here due to my pregnant wife's craving for a pecan pie and left with a little bit of everything. Their tea cakes were very very good and a steal for the size they are, plus they were very fresh. My only gripe is that they may have possibly over greased their tea cake pans since I tasted a hint of oil or whatever they use to prevent them from sticking. I tried the 2 other tea cake favors, cranberry and blueberry, which were good but you're better off going with the originals. Also I was happy to find out that their red velvet cupcake is actually chocolate cake and not dyed vanilla cake, which I really hate that a lot of places do. The cake was moist and delicious, yet the cream cheese frosting tasted a bit odd at first. It wasn't bad, quite good actually, but it seems like the frosting wasn't too fresh. Now the pecan pie itself was a different story. It was sweet but not overly sweet like most pecan pies tend to be. The crust was very buttery and slightly salty but it complimented the gooey filling and toasted pecan top very, very well. The pie was by far one the highlight of my trip. As far as the establishment goes, it was very clean and everything was displayed nicely. The cashier was polite and very helpful in letting me know what everything was. For those who like baked goods and want a more personal experience than a bigger bakery *cough* porto's *cough* I highly recommend this place since you're a customer and not a number.

3.5 stars from me... I was passing by on my new route to work and I spotted Martino's sign from the corner of my eye. "Could be promising...", I thought! So I did a double u-turn and coasted into the car park. Plenty of space and a nearly empty store inside. Except I had a couple ordering cupcakes with special lettering which was being added as a favor. Now that's service. Very cool. The cupcakes looked way too sweet for my liking. Sorry, I scrape the icing topping off (yes, even when I order cinnabuns!) I was patient as I waited to order the cute eclairs. They come in 2 sizes: a mouthful and a bellyful. I ordered 3 mini ones for me and my office mates. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. The choux pastry on my eclair was a little tougher than the light pastry I've had. But the custard filling was nicely done. Not the best, not the worst cake shop. May be the cupcakes, cookies or the special cakes are what this place is best for. They have a huge kitchen area so I think it's all baked here. Worth stopping by but nowhere as satisfying as Porto's.

I don't know if I've reviewed Martino's before and I'm certainly not going to scroll through several pages of reviews to find out. If you want delicious, inexpensive cupcakes, this place is it. Do not spend 3 times the money at the fancy cupcakes shops. This place has been in Burbank for a million years and know what they're doing. Get the cupcakes, get the cream puffs, get the eclairs, get the gelato, get everything! They have their own parking lot which is always a plus in my book. It's on Victory & Magnolia. Stop here on your way to or from Ikea!!!

Last month I ordered a half sheet cake for a birthday party because I always try to support local businesses. I'm so happy I went to Martino's! Yummy and perfect in every way! Exactly what I wanted! Everyone loved it so much that sadly, there wasn't much left the next day : ( Thank you, Martino's!

  • Gina G.

I bought a gorgeous cake here it was a tiny cake but looked like a regular sized cake. They are big on their cup cakes, all kinds. The Tea Cakes are the best. To my impression they look beautiful and taste delicious. I ordered a cake for a party and everyone comment how delicious it was. The bad thing is they close early. So if you want any sweets from here you must be here in the AM early.

  • Louie F.

Definitely known for their teacakes, Martino's is an awesome bakery that has been dwarfed by the Portos fad. I have yet to sample a treat that isn't delicious, though the teacakes are normally my primary reason for visiting Matino's. If you're going to a get together or perhaps an office meeting, spring for a dozen or two of tea cakes and you'll make some friends for sure!

I used to buy from them 20 years ago. I went back because I had yumalicious memories. I remember this place as being full of people and energy. However, this time around place was empty. The original tea cakes tasted like cornbread. The red velvet, walnut brownies, and carrot cake balls were way too sweet. I was disappointed.

This Bakery is pretty good. The coffee is not great, but the Tea Cakes...AMAZING! When I go I see a line and it's people ordering tea cakes after tea cakes! I'd drive out of my way just for them. But I give it 3 stars because I have never like much more than the tea cakes.

#1....Cakeballs. Yikes, those little balls cost $2.75 each! No wonder they've taken the prices out of the display cases, people must have been walking away in droves. $2.75 is high even for a chocolate truffle that size, full of expensive chocolate and coated in more expensive chocolate. These little balls of no-flavor have wet carrot cake inside (no expensive nuts) and are coated in a cheap, hard, flavorless white chocolate like anyone can buy at Michael's. Thumbs way down, total ripoff. Maybe a Beverly Hills bakery using top notch ingredients can get away with such a price, not this cake-mix type of place. #2....Banana Nut Muffin. Not bad, better recipe than they used to have 5 years ago. At $1.95 they are priced about the same as most in town. But you can get 3 of these muffins at Porto's for the price of 2 at Martinos, and the quality is about the same. #3...Oatmeal Cookies, nice and fresh. Sold only by the dozen, not individually. About 3.99 a dozen, on par with Vons and Ralphs and the quality is about the same. No nuts. #4...Cinnamon roll. Decent, but not really much cinnamon flavor, they must use a really cheap cinnamon. The icing was kind of tasteless, it was sort of like mayonaisse with some powdered sugar whipped into it. All in all, nothing here that would bring me back. Sorry because the service was good and seems like a nice famiy business. And by the way, put the prices back on the items, what are you ashamed of, what are you trying to hide?

--Red Velvet Cupcake Review-- Discovered Martinos @ the 7th & Fig Farmers Market. Everytime I see a cupcake, there's gotta be red velvet and I just have to have it. So I bought myself a treat for $2.50. I wasn't too thrilled overall, tasted like a store b

I couldn't help myself. I stopped here for a quick pastry to take to work. I usually gas up next door, and find myself in such a hurry that I drive past it over and over again. Not today. I purchased a cream filled horn. Bottle of milk. I felt like the Jew Hunter from Inglorious Basterds. You know that opening scene with the "delicious milk." Yeah the details of his enjoyment were consistent with my pastry and milk bottle. This place can be dangerous. Moderation and regular gas fill ups can force me away from this fantastic place.

I walked into Martino's Bakery while waiting for my car to get detailed at the car wash next door. Feeling snacky, I let the gal at the counter know that it was my first visit to Martino's and asked, "What represents your bakery, what is the one thing I must try?" She replied without hesitation, "Tea cakes." And she said, "Let me give you a sample." When someone says sample, I am thinking it will be a piece, a bite, a tidbit. She handed me one whole tea cake. I was pleasantly surprised and after I tasted it, I thought it was the most wise sales move ever. I ordered a dozen on the spot because I knew a few girlfriends would just love it. I thanked her profusely and left with my box of heavenly tea cakes. My 5 rating is based only on the tea cakes because that is all I go there for. Although I did have an oat bran muffin one morning and it was tasty. The tea cakes are what Martino's is all about! Go there, try one, you won't be disappointed. In fact, you will be addicted!

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Red effin velvet cupcake. It's a serious sized cupcake, a mini cake. You get your bucks worth. The ice cream are carefully selected flavors that you will enjoy, guaranteed. Ask for samples if you're not convinced.

My coworker raved about this bakery so I decided to give it a try. I went to the farmers market in downtown and I brought their red velvet cupcake, vanilla cupcake and cranberry teacake. When I got back to the office, the frosting on the red velvet was melting that I have to put it in the fridge to let it sit. An hour later, my coworker and I decided to have a taste test on the goodies we brought. I took one little piece of the red velvet and vanilla cupcake and instantly did not like it. I had much better cupcakes than that, it was horrible. The teacake was decent and it was the best of them all. I gave this bakery a 2 1/2 stars for the low price, but honestly I will pay more for a cupcake that I know I will eat more than one bite......

Martino's teacakes deserve to be throned and crowed and called the Kings of the World!! They are that good. The buttermilk ones is where its at, they are awesome. At first I thought "eww, buttermilk teacake"?? But after 'accidently' tasting it, I was a quick convert to buttermilk teacakeism :) Since moving to NC, these teacakes travel all the way to me from Burbank with any family or friend visiting (since they dont ship). I LOVE Martinos and hope to visit on my next trip to CA.

Oh those little effing teacakes are soooooooo good. One of those with a cup of hot coffee in the morning and you're set. I've tried the muffins there also and they weren't bad, but those damn little teacakes are what you want.

301st review...The place is clean and the selections are quite large but I wasn't too impressed w/ the eclair even though it was one of the better looking eclair's I've seen, it's just the choux they used for the eclair wasn't all that great more stale than usual. I liked the custard inside and the chocolate mousse ontop but that was about it

Want to make friends at work? Don't know what to take to a party? Bring a dozen + teacakes and call it a day! I'm borderline obsessed with these bad boys and think you will be too! The five stars go solely to the teacakes!!! The cake is super light and fluffy (i die), and has a thin layer of frosting that has just the right sweetness.

I chose Martino's cupcakes and teacakes to be the dessert that helps my family break the jewish holiday fast and I wish I simply had stuck with the fast. I chose this bakery because most of the reviews were glowing so I'm not sure if I can trust yelp anymore. I am not a cupcake snob, I will happily gobble down a ralph's cupcake anytime, anywhere. But these were the most tastleless cupcakes my mouth has ever met. I think cupcakes from a cake mix are a lot tastier. Buttermilk teacakes were decent but I would only rate 5/10 and would prefer a buttermilk donut at any donut store I also bought banana cream and apple pie.If you want an artificial banana flavored laffy taffy pie you should purchase this. They had to use artificial banana flavoring for this, it simply did not taste like real bananas. Apple pie is my favorite dessert , and they ruined it. The apples in that pie would put the sour patch kids to shame. It definitely caused my lips to pucker! even if I dont like the filling in a pie I will eat the crust. The pie crust was just as tastleless as the cupcake. Last but not least are the cannolis. Martino's sounds like an Italian name so I hoping it would make decent cannolis. The shells were soft and the the filling had no richness and tasted more like whipped cream instead of italian cheese. I do not know if my family will trust me to bring desserts again. Maybe I will just bring a Ralph's Tuxedo cake or a Marie Calenders pie next time. I know they are edible.

When I worked in Hollywood, one of my coworkers would sometimes arrive with a box of these delicious little confections called tea cakes. He'd give me the name and I'd promptly forget it until the next time he showed up with them. These are the best tea cakes I've ever had. That really doesn't mean much in itself because they're also the only tea cakes I've ever had ,but every person I've ever given them to loves them too. I use them as gifts for my clients as the price is right, and the result (a big happy smile) is right too. And as far as I can tell, every review on here agrees, including people who don't like the place. So if your haters like your specialty, you can be sure it's pretty good. They have other things too, a few of which I've tried but really it's all about the tea cakes. And some strawberry milk. Food/Dessert - A- Ambience - D Service - B Value - A+

It's actually a 3.5 but I rounded up. Why? Because I have one sitting on my desk staring at me right now and I don't want to anger it lest it make me fat when I eat it later. =X My coworker sometimes brings back the buttermilk teacakes for us. They are very delicious but a bit too sweet for me. I've never had them fresh since it always takes a day or two before it gets to the office so I'm sure they're better than I think. I do quite love the icing on it. I've never had anything else from here so this rating is only for the teacakes.

There is only one thing that I get when i go to Martinos...TEACAKES...being raised in Burbank, it was a staple comfort food. When we grew up it closed and I am so happy that they opened again and saved the Pepo's flower building. Martinos brings great memories and always makes the family smile when I bring home the box of 12 TEACAKES!!!!! There is nothing like this anywhere. Truly amazing little sponge cakes!

I love this place so much and to think I only discovered it a few years ago. Without a doubt the original tea cakes are my favorite. The light icing on top combined with how moist these little cakes are on the inside contribute to the flavor melting in your mouth. To add to it all, the price is just right. That being said everything else here that I've had is delicious and reasonably priced as well. From the bread, to the chocolate croissants to the muffins this place makes me wish tasty things were calorie free. Another nice thing about it, is that it's never too crowded so if you're looking for a good alternative to other jam packed bakeries in the area, this is it. All in all a wonderful little bakery.

The day after someone at work brought in a dozen of these fluffy little teacakes, that same asshole trying to fatten us up by providing the baked diabetes had the nerve to "joke" that, 'yeah, I *was* kinda getting overweight' after I commented he shouldn't tempt us with goodies anymore. After crying into the blazer of one of the security guards there for a few hours, who so kindly rattled off an endless array of reciprocal insults to sling at our (I can only hope almost senile) fellow employee - my favorites being Michelin man, Stay-Puff and Santa - I vowed never to eat another teacake again. Of course, that's total bullshit. I may live in a city where wearing a size 4 means you're tubby, but I'm not looking to starve my way to happiness. Been there, done that-I walked out of UCLA with a B.A. and an eating disorder and neither of them have done me much good so far. So, yes, I will again indulge in the little wonder of Martino's teacakes. And what's a teacake anyway? Think a cupcake with cake slightly more moist and a hard icing shell rather than frosting to provide the overtly sweet edge. The buttermilk flavor is subtle, comforting, and apparently, Fatty McFatterson name-calling inducing.

While I have yet to try the tea cakes everyone raves about here, I can report that Martino's makes also makes awesome cupcakes! Theirs are my favorite cupcakes in Southern California.... and I've tried a lot of cupcakes. ;) They are quite simply, delicious...not pretentious or too fancy for their own good. The square (yes square, not round) cake is perfectly moist and the icing is sweet and creamy, but -- unlike most cupcakes made by cupcake places these days -- not so sweet you end up with a sugar headache after one bite. I order Martino's cupcakes for parties and work events and my orders are always ready on time and exactly as I ordered. Love them!

Came in to hang out before a class that starts at 7pm. They close at 6, but were really nice and encouraged me to stay after closing to finish my coffee and use the wifi. I had an americano, which was excellent. Bought some cookies and macaroons for my parents- they were a hit! I'll be back for sure.

I made my first visit to Martino's a few days ago and had a great first experience. The people working there are very friendly and take customer service very seriously. I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake with Green Lantern's title treatment on it and was suppose to pick it up at 8. Unfortunately the cake wasnt ready until 9:30. The girls were great about checking in on the progress and even gave me a dozen tea cakes for my patience. I appreciated that they gave it to me to compensate for the time i waited for my cake. Both the cake and tea cakes were amazing. I can't wait to go back and try the other pastries available.

A friend of mine brought over a box of teacakes several years ago when she came over for dinner. At first glance, they looked like cheap square doughnuts, but after my first bite, I was hooked. They're simple, they kind of do taste like doughnuts (only not as greasy and heavy), but mmmmmm, they are so good. And cheap. I had only purchased the original glazed flavor at the previous location, but at this current location, there were other kinds, fruit-enhanced and dusted with powdered sugar. Those were good, too, but nothing beats the original. Martino's sells all kinds of other pastries - lots of different kinds of cookies, muffins, and cakes. I may place an order the next time I need a birthday cake.

  • Trung V.

I don't eat cake anymore. As you can see from my photo, I was that kid who probably had too much cake. Nowadays, the only cake I eat is ice cream cake and it still has to be someone's birthday. I was a bit hesitant to eat the tea cakes that came by my office as a thank you gift from a company that provides car detailing services to the firm I work for. Car detailing service and tea cakes just didn't make any sense. I ended up trying one and it was really good. Super moist and the frosting on top wasn't overbearingly sweet like many pastries are. (e.g. Sprinkles cupcakes) If I ever decide to start eating pastries again, this place will be getting my business.

Martino's makes the BEST TEA CAKES i've ever had. I work a mile from them and you will usually find me here every other friday.. their tea cakes are just moist, soft and very delicious, not so sweet which is a wonderful thing. I've had other tea cakes but nothing compare to MARTINO'S. Pros: good yummy tea cakes Cons: one worker seem to be out of this world, she has messed up my order twice in the past wk.

Went in here JUST to try the famous teacakes. I heard about the cheap prices and went a bit overboard when I walked it. Oops. I noticed no prices were listed, but from previous yelp reviews, I knew the teacakes were 85 cents. I figured the other pastries would just as cheap. WRONG. I picked up 6 teacakes, which by the way, were $1 each, okay still a good deal. I also decided to get 2 cake balls. $5.50 for two?! I hadn't realized the price until I got in my car and checked the receipt. Overall, the $1 teacakes were delicious and totally worth it (hence the 3 stars). The disgusting $2.75 cake balls were definitely not worth it. The cupcakes were priced decently and were pretty good, not amazing.

I'm 43 and before I was even born I was raised on teacakes from Martino's. I think that's all my mom ate while pregnant with me. The teacakes are legendary, they have damn good pastries and their eclairs are really good. The city of Burbank and surrounding areas went into a major depression after the original Martino's went out of business a number of years ago. But, a few of the former employees got together and started it back up again. I can't comment on all the baked goods since I haven't had everything. I'm a teacakes and pastries guy and if that's you as well then hit up Martino's for some wonderful treats.

Because of the regular tea cakes. I spent my 20's working for a newspaper and reviewing the fanciest of foods and pastries. You learn quickly that ambiance and flair does not good food make. This place is simple, modest, never too busy and the tea cakes are not the prettiest as they don't need to be. I love the unassuming appeal of Martinos bakery. Friendly staff, never aloof and that ranks high for me. Thank you Martinos, I always find a reason to have my friends pick some up on their way down to visit. ;) Laney in LB

Martino's is a tantalizing bakery oasis! It is a delightful treat found in the desert of stressful work-a-day life! When I was a kid, visits to the bakery meant highly anticipated trips to a place of wonderful treats sitting behind gleaming stainless steel and polished glass. The attendant behind the counter wore a uniform worthy of a nurse which verified that each sugary wonder was created in only the highest scientific and secretive professional manner. We brought our treasures home in a pink cardboard box and struggled to rip through the tape to get inside. I've longed missed the proliferation of these corner bakeries and am thrilled to have recently found one that is worthy--Martino's! I know I am not the first yelper to sing the praises of this wonderful bakery. In fact, I found it through Yelp! (I love Yelp!) I first stopped by to pick up their famous teacakes for an office celebration for a co-worker's birthday, and let me tell you this...they are deservedly famous! My second trip, not even a week later, found me taking a bit more time surveying their treasures. And I was amazed! And did I mention the prices? Very reasonable. On a personal note, I never did understand this 'boutique' cupcake craze with stores selling each cupcake for upwards of $5.00. I mean...COME ON!!! A cupcake?!!! Well, at Martinello's a cupcake is just a little over a dollar and they are exactly what a cupcake should be...simple and satisfying. Cookies, and cupcakes, and birthday cakes, and donuts, and pies, and breads. Martino's, please don't, as do so many other oasis mirages, ever disappear!

Martino's is a place I want very much to give five stars to because I like the people and the place has history. They have recently redecorated and installed some very comfortable furniture, which makes it much more of a location to relax and enjoy a cup. Next, they need to take their pastry up a notch. They offer the tasty but slightly heavy and over-sugared Danishes and Bear Claws they've always had, but seem not to have noticed that Porto's down the street is selling more finessed pastries like light, flakey croissants by the bushel. Plus, the muffins which showed up in the case one day looked an awful lot like the box muffins for sale at the nearby Costco. So Martino's gets an A-for-effort but I'm afraid they'll be in trouble if they don't update (and upgrade) their selection.

I grew up in Burbank and then moved away in the early-70's. I still think of their buttermilk tea cakes. They were the best--and I'm a chocolate-lover. They are moist, delicious and the frosting was heavenly! Those tea cakes are the best non-chocolate treat I can think of. I sure wish they shipped them out of state. If you go there, they are a MUST TRY! I can only imagine what their chocolate cupcakes must be like.

Yay! I'm a fan! I do like their teacakes. I've never had many before because I do not frequent any tea rooms, but I love any nostalgic eatery with a history. Almost sold out to Campbell's? Saved by those who believed in them? Nice story. And very nice people working there. And so I grabbed too much for my little tummy to handle. 2 cannoli: crisp, sugar powdered, sugared almonds and surprise! ----chocolate chips in the cream filling. 1 creamed horn: creammmmy - 2nd fave just because I love alot of creamy goodness. 2 eclairs: yum and messy. Lick your chocolately fingers. 1 cupcake, 1 red velvet cupcake: cream cheese frosting with a hint of lemon? I think there's something special in there. moist moist cake. 6 teacakes: fave is the original (love the iced glaze), cranberry & blueberry. Having one of these with a mug of piping hot, freshly brewed black coffee and it's a good morning or a nice night cap.

I've only been here once and it was for their cherry pie. It was so delicious! Not too sweet or too tart, just the right balance of everything with a crisp crust. And it was very reasonably priced. Most of the pies come in two sizes - 6" and 9". I think this is a great option when you're wanting to indulge, but only a little bit. I read the glowing reviews about their tea cakes and was tempted to try one because they looked so yummy, actually everything looked yummy, but decided that my cherry pie would be enough pleasure for one day. Next time I'll try a tea cake. I'll definitely be coming back to Martino's when I have a sweet tooth or need to order something special.

um... yeah - Martino's teacakes are, hand's down, the best. Have been forever... It never occurred to me to review them... I thought EVERYONE knew this... certainly the schools in Burbank teach this... if not, we should consider them derelict in their duties...

Martino's is the best bakery in the world!!! I was raised eating their *Tea-Cakes*!!! You can't just eat one at a time though... You have to eat 2 or 3 at a time, because they are just that great!!! If you haven't tried them, you have not lived!!! Tea cakes are seriously my definition of crack... They are just that irresistible!!! Everyone need to go to Martino's Bakery in Southern California!!!

I remember when this place had a huge establishment over on Alameda and Main Street. It was a cafe type place and I remember having their clam chowder there when I was a lot younger w/ my mom. This place is definitely a lot smaller with not that much selection. The other place had a huge display. I guess back then it was the Porto's of their time. I recently had their teacakes, and they were not as good as I remember. The teacakes they used to have were pretty good, but now they're just ok. They used to have a chocolate, chocolate chip bundt cake w/ NO icing. It was moist and very delicious. Not too sweet, but they don't have it on display at their new place. You have to special order it, which I did for my mom. That bundt cake was as good as the original one I had tasted, but it costs like $15.00... for a BUNDT CAKE! Porto's is only $9.50, but then again they don't specially make the chocolate, chocolate chip cake.. I don't really think I'd go there again.

as i read these post here for martino's, though i know they have a variety of items, i only eat the tea cakes & muffin tops...! if you're a food critic & deemed martino's tea cakes & cup cakes not like Sprinkles or any of these other "Bourgeoisie" cup cakes stores i got 2 words for ya: PUH-LEEZ...! i eat sweets & junk for daily & those $3,25 cup cakes #1, aint worth the price & #2 dont taste that awesome...! i kow KFC has the slogan "finger lickin' good", but for the tea cakes from Martino's are, how can i say this: "tea cake paper cup frosting lickin' good" bottom line, judge for yourself... eat a tea cake & you will be glad you did...! if you want to have a orgasm from a cup cake, have sex with that cup cake next to you...! ya hear me kid...? eat well & eat a 1/2 dozen, you'll run the extra laps tomorrow...!

I LOVE Martino's! Yes, they do make the best tea cakes, especially the blueberry. But I can't get enough of the chocolate chocolate cupcakes, with the little sprinkles on top! The carrot cake cupcakes are yummy also, as well as the lemon bars. Every time I buy these for someone, they just love them. And I can get a box of these things for a very low price. And every employee seems to be very nice. I would like to see a few more items in the case. But I will continue to frequent this place as long as I live in Burbank. And probably longer.

Not very friendly. They are not able to make custom cakes. I lost a week of not looking for another bakery because Roy, the owner, said that they were able to do the cake and that all he had to do was confirm price with his wife. I waited a week, called daily and the excuse was " my wife is out sick but don't worry we can do it I just need to finalize the price." I went in today and his wife was there I asked her if the price had been finalized and she said,"I have to talk to Roy." That did it for me. The right hand and left hand don't know what is going on. I didn't feel comfortable with the daily excuses and I won't bore you. It amazes me how in today's economy business owners can just be so flaky.

I thought I'd swing by Martinos after earning a couple bucks at the Burbank recycling center. I walked back and forth eyeing the goodies in the cases. Nothing really looked that tempting. They had quite a lot of the tea cakes, which in other yelpers reviews are amazing and usually gone. They had the original buttermilk, blueberry and cranberry. I wasn't greeted by any of the staff even though I was browsing for a couple minutes passing the same girl at checkout multiple times. I decided to try one buttermilk tea cake and a lemon bar. Quick checkout because they were empty, but no you're welcome or have a nice day! Come on girl; you work in a damn bakery! Eat some sugar and at least smile please. It was like soup Nazi status. :) I ate them both after getting in my car. The lady parked next to me was staring me down the whole time, but I didn't care. Unfortunately, I was quite thirsty after eating them both and should have grabbed something out of their cold case of bottled drinks. Also, to wash the unfortunate taste of the lemon bar down. It tasted old. The crust didn't seem cooked enough and lacked flavor. The lemon custard was similar to a lemon jello/jelly. The lemon gel had a very unappealing texture and wasn't a nice thick consistency that a lemon bar should be. It was just glop on top of a cardboard crust. Now, the tea cake was good. It's a lot denser than a piece of cake. The light sugar glaze on the top complimented the cake well bc it wasn't very sweet. It wasn't anything amazing with a lack of flavor and the only plus was the price at $.80. They're muffins didn't look bad. Maybe I'll try some other items one day, but I'd rather brave the line at Portos where I've yet to be dissapointed with the selection or quality. *parking is limited and you have to go through a one st. Small alley through the car wash next door to exit.

there tea cakes are the best but I have been going Martino's Bakery to get the butter cookies, cup cakes and of course the tea cakes. their cup cakes and butter cookies aren't really sweet and that is what i like the best about there bake goods. I tried the lemon squars and they are good too. Will be back soon to get a cake for BT day.

Today was my first time trying Martino's after hearing about it and driving by a hundred times! I got Teacakes, a Chocolate Muffin, & a Chocolate Chip Scone. As I was driving I decided to take a bite of the Muffin and couldn't put it down, I could tell that it was homemade and it was so soft and fluffy, I loved it. The Teacakes were really delicious as well, the frosting is perfect. I didn't really like the scone much but my brother really enjoyed it so I think it depends on whether you like scones or not. The parking is convenient and the employees are really helpful as well. I hope to try some of the other goodies soon!

Still pretty good! You guys should try their gelatto particularly "duetto". Good stuff. I also had a chance to taste the tiramisu gelatto and that was good too. I am definitely going back there. Oh I also had a chance to try their chocolate cupcake. I love it! There's perfect balance of the chocolate icing's sweetness and you could really taste the chocolate. Then the cake was soft and moist and complements the icing. Oh I can't wait to go back next week! =)

My favorite bakery on Burbank!! The teacakes are to die for. The muffins are fresh and moist. They even have delicious gelatto. 5 stars cuz it's cheap too :)

TEA CAKES! This is the one and only place I go for tea cakes. I would drive out of state for these suckers. Luckily I grew up in the same city as them. It has been a family tradition since before I can remember. Whenever I am in Burbank I like to pick one up.

Martino's makes the most amazing signature tea cakes! The little gems are moist, lemony little slices of heaven, and the same size as a cupcake. Generations have loved the same delicious recipe. Shame on anyone who thinks tea cakes are for girls only. Thanks Martino's for making the best tea cakes ever!

Martino's is wonderful. Really, their teacakes are wonderful - the buttermilk are my favorite. They must be made with lard or something else really bad for me and delicious - because they just melt in your mouth. Everyone in this bakery is happy and nice. I would be too if I got to be around teacakes all the time. They also make really nice cupcakes - old fashioned - not fancy - but really delicious. And, their prices are reasonable! I mean really reasonable - like if you have a big party, you can buy four dozen teacakes without spending a hundred dollars. I normally drive over on a Saturday morning - and it's such a nice place - people with kids buying pastries, couples having coffee and treats after a walk...you know - it's just great. Martino's will make you smile - please check it out!

I was looking for a place to pick up some goodies as a gesture of appreciation out on my lunch break and knew Porto's line would be out the door, so a friend suggested Martinos. It was a great idea because it was empty at lunch time! They certainly don't have a ginormous selection, but the teacakes were all ready in a box warm ready to go...I also got one teacake for myself as well. The teacakes seem rather unassuming, they are cute little square cakes with a thick layer of glaze, not necessarily frosting...but it works for the little cakes... After I got back to the office, my teacake was gone in about 30 seconds. ...anyone know how many points are in a tea cake???

The tea cakes here are freakin' ridiculous! You need to try one. Trust me. I'm a doctor.

Tea cakes are heaven. They used to be on Verdugo before, which was close to work (walking distance at the time) and I miss them now cuz I can't just drop in on a whim. I actually love their tea cakes without the glaze on the top cuz the glaze is too sweet for me with tea...ask them and they'll give you the fresh ones before the glazing goes on. But I do like the glaze if I'm having it by itself. Guess it's a good thing it's not so close to work anymore... easier on my waistline :)

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaahlish! I absolutely love this little bakery and even though it has moved to several different locations over the years and I can never remember the name of it while I'm calling around to stores in Burbank like an idiot, I still love it. You see, they make these phenomenal tea cakes here that are soooo good! One bite instantly takes me back to my childhood and playing Go Fish with my grandma. They have many other tasty nibblies as well, but for me, it's 5 stars all the way for the mini tea cakes :) Yum!

Holy God! If you ever want to get fat for the sake of getting fat, I would recommend never getting out of a chair or bed again except to go to the bathroom and eat Martino's buttermilk tea cakes. Don't share them with anyone, either. They might kill you in your sleep in order to prevent you from ordering anymore (it might cut into their share). Be warned!

I've heard a lot of good things about their tea cakes. So I decided to pick some up 2 dozen to take with me for Easter dinner. They were delicious and everyone loved them. My favorite is the original tea cakes but a close second is the blueberry. I warmed the blueberry in a microwave for a few second and it was amazing.

This place is the Best! The girls are so nice & Helpful!! My daughter just turned 8 and we were having a party. She loves Penguins & her b-day is on Valentines day. So I found online a picture of a Penguin cupcake cake. It had eyelashes and a pearl necklace cute cheeks & lips (very girls and detailed). I took a picture with my phone. I took to Martino's and spoke with Monica...she said no problem. I asked if they could put a red heart in middle of Penguin body with Happy Birthday to my daughter. OH MY...I picked up the cake that Saturday..IT WAS PERFECT!!! The frosting even had a shimmery coat to it (very girly). I LOVED LOVED IT!! I got so many compliment's on this cake. Everyone asked where did I get it from? I posted a picture on Facebook so my friends who did not come to party could see...Again So many compliments. Martino's has been here in Burbank for-ever & so have I..LOL I have done other cakes in the past too! & the Tea Cakes are the BEST~ I highly recommend them :-) Thank you Martino's for Making my daughter's Birthday Cake so special!!

i've been eating martino's for pretty much my whole life (that's a few decades). and more importantly i've been eating their tea cakes for that long. when i was in preschool (music box, across the street from martino's old old location), they would get them for birthdays. their cupcakes are really inexpensive - in a cupcake-obsessed time - 99¢ for a regular one! and under $2 for a coconut, german chocolate, etc. if you've never had their tea cakes, there is a hole in your heart, and you might not even know it. get a tea cake, and one for everyone you know. no one will be disappointed. simply put, the tea cakes are : CLASSIC

Best cupcakes I've ever shoved into my little trap... Moist, perfect ratio of cake to frosting, and square! How fun! They also have homemade everything: cheesecakes, cookies, pastries, breads....everything your carb loving lil heart could desire. Get at least 2 cupcakes...one for the car ride home, one for a naughty lil treat later.

Yes, Eddie C., I love the home-baked quality of Martino's. Back when they were on West Alameda, I had a good friend who worked there. She had a pastry artist who reproduced video game characters onto my son's birthday cakes. They were so beautiful, I hated to cut into them, and so have many photos from the years my son had parties.

Here's the thing, I'd love to read a review from someone who has had something other than tea cakes at Martino's and given it more than 3 stars. Here's the other thing: Martino's Bakery does 2 things well -- their tea cakes and muffin tops. I wouldn't even say their muffin tops are done well, it's just that they have the foresight to offer them because everyone knows the best part of the muffin is the top. However, when you bake just the top, without the rest of the muffin, it is no longer the "top" and doesn't taste the same. Still, I give them props for reaching out to this growing niche market of top lovers (now if only the cupcakeries would follow suit). Everything else at Martino's sucks. Their cookies are dry and amateurish, their cakes the same and their florentines taste like crispy butter. Martino's fails at everything that is not tea cake. So yes, they have 5-star tea cakes but 1-star everything else, which then evens out to 2 stars.

I was having a craptacular day the other day. When my husband came home that afternoon, he had a Cheshire cat grin and one hand behind his back. Cynical me thought it was gonna be a dead mouse or something, with the day I was having. To my surprise it was a single tea cake nestled in the palm of his hand.

not sure what all the hype is about. the teacakes were moist and tasted fresh, but tasted a bit artificial like it was made using betty crocker cake mix. they are, however, nice little snacks that hit the sweet spot and at about 90 cents each, you can't really complain.

The teacakes are the SHIT. My friend brought a dozen to my house one day and they were gone within minutes (just the two of us). I haven't had anything else here, though, hence the 4 stars. Tea cakes.

My mom has been going to this place for their teacakes since I was in high school which was eons ago! I think I just dated myself. Good gawd! Anyway...this was before they moved to their new location on Victory. I even went to their grand opening a couple years ago. They were so generous, they gave away these adorable white boxes w/ ribbon, each with 4 teacakes in them to everyone that came! Who the heck does that nowadays! I still love their teacakes up to this day. It's just a "Burbank Classic" to me. They are just square little cakes of simple, fluffy goodness that do not even come close to the trendy & overly sweet cupcake of today. Therefor, a "classic"...nuff said. I bought a dozen to take after dinner for my daughter's b-day with the family and they all loved 'em. Now they have different color frostings on them, some even with sprinkles! The old school ones just had a sugar glaze on top. You got nothing to lose if you try one and their a fourth of a price of the cupcakes at Yummy Cupcakes! They also have pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, danishes & everything else made with sugar, but their signature is the tea cake. There is also gelatto, which is okay. It's a full service bakery w/ drinks and tables to eat inside. Service has always been fast and friendly. I won't be surprised if I still come to this place when my kids are in high school. But that's not for a longggg while!

I absolutely love this place. I used to be one of the Portos regulars that stood in line for 20 minutes in the morning at 6:30. Not anymore!!!! I WALK IN AND WALK OUT IN TWO MINUTES FLAT!! Their baked goods are delicious and the tea cakes are always a hit. I love bringing tea cakes to events because everyone always devours them. Trust me, try the tea cakes and stop standing in 20 minute lines (they have boxes of 12 tea cakes fresh and waiting so you can walk in and out!!).

Yum...teacakes. Can't find anything better anywhere! It's an old fashioned bakery; not fancy but good. The brownies are good and so are the danish. I hear their gelato is to die for also...

OK peeps, the tea cake is a-MAZ-ing. I haven't had the joy of actually entering the tea shop (not yet anyway) but was lucky enough to snag one of these at a friend's going away party, and let me just say that this little bundle of heaven was scarfed down in 2 bites. So much for staying within the Points target of the day, but worth it...

This is one of the best bakeries I have ever been to. It's very hard to find a good, solid bakery, but I believe this one has all of those qualities. The tea cakes are so yummy, sometimes they even come in different colors. The coconut cupcakes, to be particular, are delicious. When finding sweets, you want to have the perfect amount of every ingredient, and the baked goods here are proportioned really well. We get the tea cakes in 6 packs, they last about a day :)

Sprinkles. Yummy. Joan's. Susie Cakes. Cupcakes are the dessert of choice these days in trendoid LA but if you just want a really, really good version of the cupcakes that you used to love growing up (the ones Mom or not-so-bad-stepmom used to bake), Martino's is where you wanna be. Martino's teacake cupcakes are two times softer and cakier than its trendier counterparts, have half of the obnoxious ratio of frosting-to-actual-cake than its trendier counterparts, and are less than half the cost, albeit smaller in size. And holy crap- they're square shaped! In an age where pretty but overly sweet and overly dry designer cupcakes than are taking over LA and all of western civilization, Martino's harkens back to a time where substance trumped style, Michael Jackson was black, and LA Gear was "da bomb." Better days y'all!

What is a tea cake without thinking of Martino's? Original recipe and unmatched taste. Good with hot or cold coffee or milk. I'm not much of a tea drinker.....

Like similar reviews, I will rave about the moist tea cakes and not-too-sweet cupcakes. I also love the prices. Was able to pick up treats for the entire office for under $60. Will be back! (A dozen cupcakes or teacakes would make a good dessert to bring to a dinner party.)

  • Lillian Grace D.

OMG!!! I would have given zero stars except the price is really fitting for the quality. Seriously... I was the 3rd person in line on a not so busy Thursday night... it took about 20 minutes before I was served because although there was 1 person on the counter the other people in the back were probably busy doing other things... "fine, I'll wait"... so the best thing they did have was the strawberry scone... it was dry but that's what I expect a scone texture to be like. The strawberry jam was perfect. However, when I did actually order I ordered the strawberry CHEESE scone..so technically it was a mistake. I also ordered a disgusting red velvet, the frosting had an overwhelming lemon flavor? what the heck? I also ordered a coconut cupcake and a german chocolate cupcake... neither one did any better.. they were in the shape of the tea cakes (square) and they both had the consistency of pound cake... altogether too dense and too sweet and tasted nothing but sugar (no coconut taste on the coconut and hardly any chocolate taste to the chocolate. Then I also had a buttermilk teacake. Uh maybe I didn't get a good flavor because they were the same consistency as the cupcakes... dense, square and overly sweet, and no flavor. The ladies in front of me took all the other flavors so I was only able to try the buttermilk, maybe a blueberry or some other flavor would have been better... Luckily I gave it a one star because I got out of there with only a $6.50 -$7.00 bill for all 5 things... I made myself sick trying all the flavors.. and not in a good way!! (ok, people seriously I didn't ALL of the cakes, I only had one-two bites of each to give it a fair go)... Thus ends my journey with Martino's Bakery.

This place is known for their teacakes and rightfully so. While I've only tried their "original" buttermilk teacakes---I'm a purist and like the originals only---they have a great selection of other pastries including some delicious danishes and raisin rolls. The teacakes are very reasonably priced at 75 cents each and are filling enough for the price (a bit oversweet as noted by others but that's what the coffee or tea is for!). Pastries are also reasonably priced but I found the bread prices ($3.50 for a small loaf??) too high for my tastes. Service is ok, not overly friendly or helpful as sometimes I'm not sure the servers understand enough English to answer some of the questions there. It's definitely worth my driving the 40 miles or so roundtrip from the westside for these great treats.

  • Yudelan K.

Just get the teacakes! Soo delicioous, sweet, hint of honey, with a glaze over the top. My co-wrkers love these. And their a good size for tea cakes, about the size of home made cupcakes.

Sorry, but I just don't think they are that great. I've only had the teacakes and they are tasty, but nothing really special.

  • Robin W.

Haven't tried anything other than the tea cakes, but it's worth the drive. Too bad the cakes are small, but that means it helps me from overeating. It's almost like a spice cake with the best semi-hard (not mushy or creamy) frosting and it's sweet. Perfect. Would get 5 stars except I don't know what everything else tastes like! Pick up a box of 8-12 of these puppies and share with your friends. It's cheap (around $1 each).

ok, heres the skinny(or should i say the chubby) often times there are things in life that are sometimes better left un-experienced. there are substances that have become so dangerous that a simple experiment can become a habit, that will eventually become a full blown addiction. dont worry im not talking about heroine, im talking about Martinos Tea cakes. there was a simpler time, when i was oblivious to such things. i used to work for a catering company who dealt with a lot of craft service people. on a daily basis we would pick up tea cakes by the dozen for delivery to movie sets and tv shows. the precious tea cakes used to pass right thru my kitchen without a simple hello, and i was no worse for the ware. but one day, one time, one tea cake was left behind. i knew that these things were in high demand but i guess i never knew why, so there it was. on first sight, the tea cake looked like a dull, boring, square cupcake of sorts. how good could it be? with reckless abandon i peeled off the protective paper wrapper and stuffed the sucker. once my knees stopped shaking i was able to form a singular thought - "dear god, what have i done." it was soft, buttery, sweet and crispy all at once. i instantly knew that a new day had dawned. there are times when i look back and wish i hadnt taken that bite, now being a slave to the tea cake. i wont deny that i still love em' and since there are no "Martino's" support groups, my addiction will continue to run wild. you are the monkey on my back, the shiver in my hands, and the craving on my tounge, and i love you for it. thanks Martino's.
