The salsa bar is a big plus! The wifey rated her margarita "good". We had the Papas Con Chorizo. I thought they did a great job. Not too much chorizo and not to greasy (for chorizo that is). I recomend the flower tortillas over the corn. Just a personal preference. Traditional Mexican Decor. Notably clean. My server was attentive, not over bearing. I will come back.

I've been meaning to visit this restaurant since we bought a cabin within walking distance over a year ago. I was always hesitant since the exterior looked a bit run down. Imagine my surprise when we walked in! Now, it is pretty full of chachki's but it was a cute place. Service was great and quick (we came around 5pm on a Thurs). I got the steak fajitas-pretty safe choice. My hubby got the carne asada. Both were good. Not spectacular-but good enough where we will be back to enjoy a good meal near our house.

GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE!!! We were total of 23 - 12 adults with 11 kids - We got seated in the corner of the restaurant with our own space and a TV for the kids :) they even came and changed the channels to keep kids entertained. Food and Service wasGREAT. The Margaritas were Awesome. They really know how to take care of there guests. We were not expecting this great of an experience with so many people but they went BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS. This place is now on our LIST to visit everytime we go to Big Bear. Overall an EXCELLENT experience.

I used to come here all the time, but it's changed somehow. The food is just okay and the drinks are not as good as they used to be. The super friendly staff is not the same either.

We love Hacienda!!! Perfect spot for a Margarita after work or to watch a game and the place we choose when we want dinner out with the family or have out of towners visiting. Food and service are always outstanding!

Loved this place! Great happy hour, decor, friendly staff and owners, great flat screen tv's, salsa bars.....dollar tacos on monday and tuesday nights.....hello :-) Our new local hangout in Big Bear :-)

This is cheap Mexican food like what people in Ohio think is Mexican food---in otherwords, it's not. I'm from Ohio, so I can make those digs. Our server didn't smile the whole time and answering questions must have been as miserable to her as a visit to the dentist. The one star here is for letting dogs onto the patio. That is the only nice thing I can say for Hacienda Grille. Yuck.

Consider this a 3.5 Since moving to LA, I've realized that I'm really spoiled when it comes to Mexican food. If I want something authentic and historic, I go to El Cholo or El Chavo. If I want something lighter and trendier, I go to Malo or Alegria. So one night while in Big Bear, we decided to give Hacienda a try based on a recommendation from my parents. The service: Great.. our waitress was attentive and really nice The chips: So yummy. I pretty much filled up on these before they brought the food out. The mild salsa: Some of the best and freshest-tasting salsa I've had in a while The guacamole: too salty and kind of bland The margarita: I got the 16 oz and left with a little less than a buzz The veggie burrito: Gigantic. I mean, really huge. This alone gets a 4 out of 5 and I liked that it wasn't covered with cheese and sour cream. My boyfriend had the chicken fajitas and wasn't crazy about them Overall, the food's not amazing but I'd go back for the service and the chips... plus it's difficult to find a good veggie burrito.

I enjoyed the food. I got the chile relleno and my boyfriend got the enchiladas. He was happy with his food as well. We went during the winter so it was pretty empty, but the waitress was very friendly and service was good. Our food came out hot and fast and I loved it. I would go back the next time I visit to try something else.

Pretty bomb Mexican food. Have a pretty killer salsa bar, big plates good margaritas. Decently priced. Good grubbing after a long day in THE Park.

We were looking for a different place to eat when we spotted this lil place, by the way it's not closed and not sure why it's saying that on YELP. Anyway the food was amazing! Glad they have a real Mexican restaurant in Big Bear!

OK. I really wanted to like this place. When you walk in, the place has a good atmosphere. We ordered Ceviche and a shredded beef burrito along with chicken nuggets and bean burrito kids meal. The kids meals came out and the french fries for the kids meals were actually really good. They tasted like Burger Kids fries. We got our ceviche came out and was the wrong type of ceviche so we sent it back for the shrimp and seafood ceviche. Then our waitress brought out the ceviche and our shredded beef burrito with red sauce. The sauce on the burrito tasted like a ketchup based sauce and the burrito wasn't really shredded. Tasted like the beef was frozen and then thawed and there was a row of onions on one side of the burrito so, my first bite was a mouthful of onions. Our ceviche tasted like pre-cooked shrimp and the fish tasted like a gelatinous fish flavored substance with corn starch. We sent the ceviche and the burrito back and got chicken tacos which were actually pretty good. Food just tasted canned and not fresh. They are better mexican restaurants within the area on Yelp. Won't be back.

Hacienda has always been my favorite restaurant in Big Bear. However, I have gone twice since their renovation, and both times were less than satisfactory. Last night, my friends order came out wrong and I had to ask for sour cream 3 different times and when It finally came, I was halfway done with my burrito and they charged a dollar for it! I know that most restaurants charge extra for things like that, but usually they inform you that its going to cost extra first and its generally only 50 cents. Had everything else been better, I wouldnt have found that an issue. But the ground beef in my burrito had a weird chorizo-like consistency and tasted like someone used wayy too much chili powder with the seasoning. aside from the sour cream issue, the waitress and two other waiters were attentive enough. Overall, it wasnt a terrible experience, but if I'm making the point to spend extra money for the dining experience while I easily could have gone to Taco Bell or Sonora or La Montana, I would like to leave happy to have spent the money than slightly aggravated and with leftovers that werent finished because they just didnt taste good.

Great little place, what a nice surprise. Very clean, good salsa bar and plenty of TV's in bar area to catch sports. Had the Diablo Shrimp, Barbacoa Enchilada's and Carne Asada burrito. All were really good, don't even think about holding the burrito - way to big. Chips were okay, but salsa was very good. Best thing was the Mexican springroll, great taste, huge portions and a good mixture of favors, what a pleasant surprise.

Pretty authentic Mexican food in the area. Carnitas burrito was huge and the meet filling was good. Rather than rice it was filled with cornmeal.

would give no star if I could this place was the worst! hubby and I went there while on vacation in big bear, he ordered a burger, and I ordered a taco salad it was garbage! the burger was very very salty , and it tasted charred. my taco salad was gross the meat was very salty and the whole thing tasted soggy I took two bites and i couldnt take another. the manager came by asked how everything was and I told him I didnt like my salad he took it away but didnt take it off my check.... I had to ask the server to remeove it because i didnt eat it. the margarita was awfull the peach had a funny after taste. and the service was well ok nothing to rave about. I cant end this without mentioning their "salsa bar" the salsa's were disgusting one tasted like a cup of pepper water the other like vinager, and the last like plain diced tomatoes. I know there are not alot of choices in big bear but trust me your better off going to vons and buying groceries then setting foot in that poor excuse of a restaurant.

Big Bear is not the first place that comes to mind when people discuss Mexican food. Well this past weekend, my family and I stopped by the Hacienda Grill to grab a quick bite and watch some football. I wasn't expecting anything great, but hey they hooked it up. We tried their chicken quesadilla, special nachos, and taquitos. Everything was very good. They also had several TV's televising the NFL playoffs in the main dining room and bar. FINAL VERDICT: Food 4/5...surprisingly good. Don't forget to visit their salsa bar and kick up a knotch. Service: 5/5....very helpful and receptive to our needs. Ambiance: 4/5....clean and respectable. Good to know that we have good Mexican food in Big Bear.

One of the best restaurants on the mountain along side of their other restaurant El Jacalito. I suggest Carne Asada Ranchera. the restaurant is clean, the waiters friendly.

Great Albondigas soup and the horchata was so refreshing! We came here with our friends and four dogs after wrapping up a nice morning hike. The service was wonderful and they were also very accomodating to our four legged friends. They immediatly ran out waters for us and the dogs. The salsa bar was a nice addition.

Since it was really close to where we were staying,we decided walking to this place.inside looks just ok,more like a sport bar with a small dining area.my bf was really surprised how good the ribs were.and my enchiladas plate was good as well.the service was just ok,the guy was busy talking to some guys at the bar,but we didn't mind.and oh...the margaritas are great!!we'll go back!

Stopped in here on a whim while traveling through Big Bear. The parking lot was under construction and there was room for maybe 8 cars. The lot next door was also under construction leaving people little choice on where to park. The restaurant itself was nice - clean and very inviting. The service was not the best, especially considering it was the weekend of 4th of July. We saw only 1 waitress working and our glasses ran dry and stayed that way for nearly 10 minutes. They really needed an extra wait person or two. The food was pretty average. I had the Carne Asada Torta which the menu said had guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes. It came with lettuce, sliced avocado and no tomatoes. The medium salsa was very good and the chips with their seasoned salt were tasty. One last plus is that they offer a large variety of tequilas.

HELL YEAH! 7 dollar large margaritas after a long day at bear mountain!! SO down. This spot is a must for me and my boyfriend on our way back down the mountain!! We get the guac and chips and hit the salsa bar and order the margaritas, good and strong. Their food is good as well but we got for the drinks! YUM.

PATRONS BEWARE!!! My boyfriend n I decided to come to Big Bear for our weekend to enjoy a nice snowboarding trip. In addition, some (semi) authentic Mexican cuisine and margaritas. Hacienda spoke to us. We soon realized upon arrival that the prices weren't particularly easy on the pockets, but in spite of such, decided we weren't going to hold back....we're on vacation. But it soon became a problem once I felt like we were being ripped off. $12 for an 18 oz. margarita!! Sounds appealing right!?!? Yeah, because what you don't know is 17 oz. of that is lime juice!!!! But don't take my word for it, they'll gladly argue and tell you that you're wrong to your face as they bring the 1 oz. jigger of "premium" tequila to your table to show you otherwise. Classy.

After trying to get a seat at another restaurant, with no luck, I drove over to hacienda grill. GREAT food! It was full of flavor and the right portion sizes. The chips and salsa were super tasty as well! It was the perfect place to eat after a long day on the mountain.

I have to start by saying that the food is pretty good. I had the carne asada burrito with red sauce and my husband had the carne asada plate. The portions are large and their salsa and carrots are good. That is where it ends. Although the restaurant was really busy, the service was a complete zero. The hostess gave us lip about having to clear a table to seat us after she suggested that we sit in the bar. Then no waitress. A bunch walked past us many times, but no one took our order. We were finally served by what we think is the manager. He was nice, but not much to say and not big on the customer service. It was pretty busy in the restaurant for a Tuesday night, lots of bigger parties. But we would have been fine if we were asked to wait a few minutes while they cleared some tables or something. It just seemed like no one was in control and everyone was just running around. That being said, we will probably return as the food was pretty good. The remodel that they did looks very nice but the place is very loud when it is busy.

decor was nice, booths need to go...bathroom looked nice and redone. service was great. tea was fresh...they clean their machine you can tell. I only had beans and cheese with corn tortillas and chips n salsa and I can say I eat beans everywhere this place prepared them fresh and perfect. I was so full but it was one of those it's so good just one more bite experience. The chips were homemade and warm and crisp and fresh and the salsa was fresh and delicious. I would come there every time I hit Big Bear. Great for a quick bite, large groups, with kids...casual atmosphere and good food...my husband had some burger and he ate the entire thing he said it was excellent.

What an absolutely pleasant surprise!! In general, food in Big Bear is not the greatest. It is either provided by long time natives with little need to innovate or urban escapees who can't find anything else gainful to do..."Hey, I'm bored, let's start a restaurant this morning..." What is great there?..the fish and shrimp ceviche with option to add avocado. Maybe nothing tells you more about Mexican food than when you order the chips and salsa, the cheese enchilada, and most of all, the ceviche. Well, the ceviche there was the best I have had in all of California and I eat Mexican food several times a week!! The chips and salsa are very good...My son had a great charbroiled hamburger, and daughter had tortilla soup. THe soup was thicker, more red pepperish, and heartier than most restaurants but while I am not a CT soup expert, I have a hunch it is more authentic. The prices are right and compared to the average fare in BB, this is a real undiscovered gem of a restaurant. If the rest of the menu, and it will take a while to get back there, is as good as the ceviche, and the owners continue to exhibit care in preparation, it will get a 5th star.

Someone else here mentioned wilty lettuce-they were right. A little overpriced. Salmon was barely ok. 3 star-max. Our waitress-April was prompt and efficient.

Hacienda Grill starts out with some of the best chips and salsa around. Fresh fried red and yellow chips with a special seasoning salt. I had the Carne Asada plate and got a very flavorful cut of meat with the typical rice and beans. It was very good, although the flour tortillas served with the dinner were pretty average. We tried an interesting appetizer - Mexican Chicken Spring Rolls: basically a flauta stuffed with a blend of Mexican and Asian ingredients then served with a jalapeno flavored soy sauce based dipping sauce. It was very good, but not fantastic. We also had taquitos and flautas at the table - both packed full of good meat so they tasted great, but like the Carne Asada plate, they would have been better with better tortillas. All in all, I left extremely happy for having good Mexican food up in the mountains.

Based off the Yelp recommendations we tried Hacienda our first night in Big Bear. We each had the Burrito plate, one with Shredded Beef, the other with Carne Asada. Both were wet and red, our preference was the shredded beef. At Hacienda, you are served chips Ala carte. If you want Salsa, it is self serve, at of course, the Salsa Bar. Two selections, both are good, our preference was the chunkier version with the Cilantro and Onion presence. The Margaritas were good, but the ones we were served, we're not as strong as touted by other Yelpers. We concluded the meal with an order of Flan. The Portion Was a sizable portion enough for two or three people. The texture was good, on their version, it had chocolate syrup and very little to none of the brown caramel juice; not our preference, but to others, may be it works. last, the service was okay. Not too focused on our dining experience, but did take our order, and the food did come. Took us a while to get our bill, but the server's temperament fit the situation, we will get by, and her tip reflected it.

Would it be acceptable to drive 2+ hours on the daily just so I can feast on the chicken fajitas I got, every single day? BUT SERIOUSLY. I have ZERO complaints about the feast that was set forth in front of me when I stopped in at this restaurant on the way to Big Bear Mountain! I know for a fact that my company was very much in love with his burrito too for he was doing things to it, only seen in porn videos! AH HA HA HA HA!! Worth every penny and every second of driving, for sure... And no, I'm not writing this in a drunken stupor thanks to the heavily poured TEQUILA + Soda Water I got! Ha Ha!

I spent the day up in Big Bear to get out the Hades living room that was L.A. After a cool relaxing time by the lake, I came across the Hacienda Grill. It's a cozy little place. Great bar and T.V's on the wall to watch the games of the week. The ambient noise wasn't to bad. Most restaurants now a days, you have to shout at your dinner party to have a conversation. We were seated fairly quickly but it was a Sunday evening so the place wasn't that crowded. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and comparably priced. Just one tip, if you order any one of the Mojitos, flip for the top shelf tequila. We ordered a basic one and the tequila was to overpowering. The cool thing was that our server didn't charge us for it due to the fact we only had a few sips. Overall, really good experience at the Hacienda. Will definitely be back. Thanks.

Yelp...... you're slippin'. Perhaps the "check in" option wasn't functioning correctly this particular day but nonetheless, I/we dined at this place a few months back when weather in the city became unbearable and we needed a swift retreat offering cooler temps. Big Bear has never disappointed and upon traversing down Big Bear Blvd. while noting the smell of something borderline-orgasmic, we were compelled to do like the commercials and "follow our noses"; they led us to this portrait of perfection and things only got better thereon! Walked in and noticed the restaurant possesses a bar-like atmosphere at entry (family friendly of course) yet there were plenty of booths available. We were seated immediately and led to do as most others had already, which was to partake in ordering margie's. Lord have mercy, these things didn't disappoint. Perhaps it was the altitude of Big Bear altogether but I was buzzed for a good 2 hours afterwards. We took our server's recommendation into consideration and ordered the carne asada burrito; this thing around and was the size of a small child. Need I say, it was next to Heaven!!! It's ALWAYS a plus to taste the grill on your steak and this place served it like "mi abuela would have"!!! With the environment in mind, I tend to request my burrito mojado requesting green sauce as opposed to the traditional "red". In most cases, this spices it up a bit ^ ^ ^ as well. In addition would be my "test of authenticity". Any "REALLL" blaxican' knows that all posing Mexican spots are weened completely out of the equation by way of their salsa failing to pass the test. Hacienda Grill possesses a salsa bar that would put El Pollo Loco to shame! There's a flavor and spice level with each salsa individually enough to seemingly satisfy every diner's palette. THIS IS A HUGE PLUS for me as those that know me know that I practically drink my salsa.... Service was stellar and I'd definitely like to bid the highest regard to our server who taught us the "true" definition of a B.M.P. (beautiful Mexican Princess), lol.. Sorry Christina, I thought I'd reviewed this place earlier!!! This place has without hesitation secured itself as being our new go to spot when in need of a high altitude Mexican fix. Excellent job Hacienda Grill!!! Muchas gracias!

Yum, we had a great meal here. We sat out on the patio with our doggie but it was packed to the gills on the inside anyway. The chips were fresh with a yummy salsa that you have to go inside to get yourself. The portions are huge here. I took half of my tostada back to the hotel with me. Hubs has an enchilada and a taco which he said was good. Our servers were fast & friendly. They messed up and put beef in my tostada instead of chicken which they quickly corrected. The food is solid Mexican, maybe not as authentic as some people like but I thought it was yummy. Our drinks were refilled quickly. I recommend if you are in Big Bear.

Really good fresh guacamole. I had the Carne asada burrito wet and it was delish. My sister had a hard taco and said it was good. They have a fresh salsa bar as well and the atmosphere was nice. Went in the early afternoon on a Saturday it was not crowded but I imagine as the evening progresses it gets crowded. Food is worth it though.

Walked in at 1:40 on a Friday. ...seated quickly, provided with a bowl of chips.....and sat for the next 20 minutes never talking to a waiter or waitress...no drink order, no water, nothing. Would have complained but couldn't find anyone to complain to. We got up and walked out....A guy at the door said "Thanks for coming!"

My family was very excited to come eat here because of some reviews we read. Unfortunately it was NOT a pleasant visit! We were unfairly treated by the MANAGER because he didn't want to sit us outside after we asked. When we got here there were many tables outside available. We waited for 15 minutes and nothing. A group of girls come in and ask another employee to be seated outside and they were immediately seated. I got up to ask the employee if we could be seated outside and she said yes. The manager JUAN CARLOS OROZCO comes and tells us our table inside is ready. My uncle mentions that our table is getting ready outside. JUAN CARLOS OROZCO then starts arguing saying WELL DID I SEAT THEM!? NO. After we decided to walk in he still had nerve to ask DO YOU STILL WANT A TABLE!? Rude as hell! Worst manager someone could hire. BY THE WAY IT LOOKED LIKE HE HAD BLOOD ON HIS BLUE SHIRT!!! We then went to SONORA CANTINA and it was AMAZING!!!! Go there! Down the block!

Probably one of the better choices in big bear if you want a clean, nice atmosphere and decent food. The food is the same as el jacalito. Nothing special at either place. Hacienda can get very loud, not a great choice if you are looking to have a conversation over dinner.

If your looking for a decent place for a good size meal at a decent price I recommend this place. Service was okay. Coming from San Diego I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed their shrimp burrito. Their salsa bar could use some work though. One of the salsas tasted rancid but the green tomatillo salsa was great. All in all I thought this place was fairly good for the price. A 18 oz house margarita was $8.50 and my shrimp burrito (enchilada style) was $13 (it was HUGE, I took 1/2 home).

I love coming here. They are good for both dates, group get togethers, and to watch soccer games at the bar. They have delicious Mexican food, exceptional service and really know how to make a margarita. I usually get the wet burrito steak burrito topped with red sauce. You get a good amount of food for what you pay for, I usually cant finish my food and need to take it home for left overs! They bring chips to your table and have a very nice salsa bar available for you to get your own salsa. They have outdoor seating that is perfect during the summer to enjoy the weather, or indoor seating during the winters. Every time my girlfriend and I come up to Big Bear we always make it a point to eat here and so should you.

This place is a favorite of mine in Big Bear. LOVEEE THE SALSA Bar! They have the best carrots with jalepenos.. They are fresh, crunchy and spicy. The burritos are good here too. Favorites of mine are the chili verde burrito and the chimichanga..service is mediocre

    (4)
  • Sarah C.

The burritos are the best ... They're huge and flavorful! The service wasn't great however...the waiter didn't know what they had on draft and the sour cream and guac were never brought to the table for the steak fajitas as requested... However the free chips and salsa bar are totally worth it

    (4)
  • Alyn P.

Meh, the setting is nice, server was great, but a bit much to pay for Mexican food. Salsa Bar is great, but the fish tacos tasted like lake fish, and the flare was a bit to fancy with not enough actual mexican nom nom flavor. I guess thats what you get for big bear.

We were all looking forward to a good meal, been here before and it wasn't bad but this time we were sadly disappointed. The service was terrible, we had to wait a long time for refills, I ordered fajitas and when it came out, I had to wait at least 10 minutes more for tortillas, the food was ok, better if I got it at the same time, but the service was really bad.

Stopped by here on the way home for a AFter Mountian Fill up Meal! recommended by one of the workers at the big bear! It had a very good upscale look from the outside and once you get in the prices are reasonable. which I like. The mix of American Bar food and Spanish Bar food is kind of unique but works since american food is pretty easy to do. I Like the fresh salsa bar its a different take on the chips and salsa as a starter. So i couldn't decide on what to eat, i was between the BBq Chicken sandwich or the Mexi- Spring Rolls. so i asked the gentleman serving us what he recommends he says mexi spring rolls so since its my first time i roll with that. I also order a Club Soda with Lemon ( Carbonated WATER) with a Side salad with ranch dressing The Salad came out first while I was enjoying the Chips and Salsa. Started working on the salad almost finished it by the time the main course came out. It was Delicious ! great recommendation from the server it was served with a soy sauce. I think they should have offered pico del gayo and sour creme that would have been really good, I could have asked for it on the side. but the reason why this rating is just A-ok is not because of the food, that was DELICIOUS Really Was. It was the bill at the end. I have no problem with that entrees ill pay what every amount of money for good food. what got me on the bill was the $2.99 charge for Club Soda. really? my friend ordered water and didnt get charged for it. but my carbonated water i get charged $3 I think thats absurd maybe 1.50 or a dollar but $3 ? come on. you offer all sorts of sodas you have to have carbonated water to add the syrup to. so its a must have. now I know you arent giving it out free but I personally know that it is not $3 expensive. when i asked the manager he said its soda not water. I was taken back the same manager that waS VERY NICE recomending extrees with a smile on his face now being a hard ass worried about $3 . the bill was like $25 he was going to be tipped but good food bad customer service I will come back to enjoy the food but I will have to avoid that manager or maybe next time get a server that cares about the customer.

This was our second trip to Hacienda. Dinner last night was very enjoyable. We arrived at about 5:45 on a Friday night and the restaurant was not too busy. We were seated quickly by a hostess who was obviously having a bad day. All she asked was "how many", then grabbed two menus and walked to a table. We were several steps behind her, she did not wait for us to get to the table before she tossed the menus down and walked away. If this had been my first time to the restaurant it would have immediately soured my expectations. However, Christina, our waitress saved the day. She was very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. My wife had a bowl of albondigas soup and I ordered chicken fajitas. Both came to our table in a reasonable amount of time and both dishes were hot and flavorful. My wife's strawberry margarita was smooth and tasty and our waitress kept asking if we wanted our chips refilled. The salsa bar is great, the green tomatillo salsa was our favourite, though I found it spicy (but I am guy who sweats eating taco bell mild sauce!!). The restaurant is very modern inside and nicely decorated. By the time we finished our meal the restaurant was getting very busy. From the crowd you can tell this is a favourite of many people. Other than the sup-par greeting, our dinning experience was very pleasant and we certainly will return in the future.

"Hi, welcome to Hacienda Grill!" "Hey, can we start off with some queso?" "Queso?" "Yeah, some queso dip." "Oh, I'm sorry. We don't have queso dip." "But aren't you a Mexican food restaurant." "Well, we're not like REAL Mexican food." How do you think the rest of the meal would go? The burrito I had was covered in tart, store-bought enchilada sauce, beans straight from a can, and rice that was probably made in a minute. I can't explain it any farther than this: it...was...not...good. Whoever is reviewing this place needs to get out of Big Bear and try a real Mexican restaurant. I mean, it's not like you don't live 3 hours from a little place called MEXICO! Very disappointed...very...

We've been here before and I feel a bit bad giving a 1 star. However, the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was not deveined and tasted so fishy I'm worried what my stomach will be doing later We did mention the dissatisfaction with the waitress and I'm not convinced she did anything with it. I wasn't expecting our meal to be comped but having a manager come by with an apology would have been a good thing. We did tip her 18% but will think twice before coming back.

LOVE hacienda grill. the "BEST" Mexican food on the mountain aka Big Bear. the staff is great! Took my wife for dinner on our anniversary and they set us up with a private table and they gladly arrange the table for me with my flowers and other little decorations. It was GREAT! . treated us like family. thanks to Carlos and all the staff you guy made our special day awesome.

Food and drinks was terrible. Im surprised Big Bear doesnt have better restaurants based on the amount of tourists the town has

Don't get the barbacoa enchiladas- it was basically fat wrapped in a tortilla. The least they could do is pull the meat away from the fat. The skinny margarita was sour. My moms taco salad was tasteless. My son's taquito plate was just weird.

Had the chili Verde burrito and tortilla chicken soup. Both were fantastic. They have a salsa bar with fresh salsa made hourly with different varieties. Wife had the wet shredded chicken burrito. The red wet sauce was pretty basic, tasted like something out of a can. Can't give the full 5 stars due to the wet sauce but I thoroughly enjoyed my.choices. $30 with tip for all 3 items. Great place.and will visit again.

Great margaritas- 22 ounces - go thing we walked. Plus the food was pretty good. I had the Carnita...very filling. Sports Bar with a good vibe.

This place is amazing. I loved the service and the food. The servers always asked if we needed anything and were very fast. We enjoyed our whole meal while there. The food is very good and it won't disappoint! If you're in Big Bear looking for a good MEXICAN restaurant, check this place out. Also, they were very nice about making my meal Vegan. I recommend.

First time coming to this restaurant (been to their other one) and though the food was decent, the service wasn't so great, hence the 3 stars. The food took a while to come out and when we were there, there wasn't many people in the restaurant yet. Now service, the staff was mainly older teenagers or young adults and they just gossiped by the host stand. We waited 10 minutes before our waitress finally came back to take our order. And when we wanted to check we waited another 10-15 minutes even after our plates were taken away. Though the waiter we had, while we assumed our waitress was on break, was really friendly and nice, our original waitress just seemed like she didn't want to be there and was kind of a bummer. Food, eh. I've had better Mexican food in my city to be honest.

They were so amazing to us when we arrived and took care of all 30 of us. They were very good with their service, allowed us to put multiple cards on one check and the food was absolutely amazing. Try the shrimp fajitas! Thank you so much for making out big bear retreat that much better!

  • Amie M.

Better than El Jacalijto, although the two establishments are related? INOTW the menu is the same. Get the fajitas and a Cadillac margarita, enjoy your hot tortilla chips and salsa from the salsa bar. Don't stray from these safe and delicious options...plus you can watch sports. Who knew you could have two different restaurants in the same small hamlet with the same menu and have decidedly different results?

Saw this place in an ad and checked it out. I wasnt overly impressed with the food and service was not so hot. Seemed Ilke one person was working and one training. Yea we went during the week and there were a few people in the place. So overall was so -so

The food at Hacienda is amazing, whether choosing traditional mexican or a non-traditional cheeseburger (one of the best in Big Bear!). Try the Mexican Chicken Spring Rolls for a real treat! Killer margaritas as well. Excellent salsa bar. Great kids' menu too! We have done small groups of 4 or 6 people and larger birthday groups of 20. They are always able to accommodate us. Our group has often said, "let's try somewhere new", but we usually gravitate back to Hacienda. It is comfortable and feels like home!

Girls getaway and we visited Hacienda Grill for our first time. We had the best taquitos, wings and barbocoa! Our bartender Michael crafted our drinks to our liking! We imensly enjoyed our meals. We had the and food was great! A must while at Big Bear!

Called and asked about "the NFL Sunday ticket" since they are listed as a sports bar. The girl on the phone asks "what's that?" I ask to speak to someone else. A guy gets on and says "we will have the game" Since I never stated which game I will assume they will not. Are smart hostesses that hard to come by ?

This place sucked. Service, horrible. Horrible. Attitudes? Horrible. We were treated as beyond less than. Weren't given utensils, weren't given chips on the table like every other customer. We weren't asked if we wanted drinks so we had to go to the bar to ask for water because we had just finished hiking. We needed to ask for everything and were given the attitude like we were actually bothering them for expecting to be served like we were at a restaurant! We spoke with the manager who was more than apologetic and took care of us the rest of out stay. At the end of our stay the waitress came to the table and said "done?". Really!? What the hell are you doing working here? We said yes, done. After waiting twenty minutes for our drinks and food, we were beyond done. The manager took a drink off the bill and a small discount and we left. No tip was left. You want a tip? Here's one: don't be a bitch to your patrons. DONE!

This place has some delicious food. Authentic, almost as good as Moms. They have an awesome salsa bar and delicious flavor! The waitress was nice, service was quick (and it was busy) and the food was tasty. I had the Chile relent and enchilada combo. Loved the black beans, as did my kids!

  • Katie B.

Best Mexican food in Big Bear. Chips are crisp and seasoned! Very addictive. Great salsa bar. The guacamole was huge in size and freshly prepared. The albondigas soup was great and not easily found in restaurants-- nice authentic touch to the menu. A very good choice for cold days in Big Bear. The enchiladas, rice, beans, and even the fries were great. The locals eat here, which says a lot. If you're closer to Big Bear Village, their sister restaurant is El Jacalito.

  • Katye P.

If I could leave zero stars I would. This was the worse Mexican food I have ever had. I ordered 6 ground beef soft tacos, they gave me chicken tacos. The sauce they put on the tacos is very spicy. I should have checked my order before I left but I didn't think you could mess up tacos. If you want good Mexican food, find one of the hole in the wall places up here. You get what you pay for does not apply to this restaurant.

This place is the Bomb. Only reason not a 5 star is plastic bowls for salsa. But amazing salsa bar. Big screen tv's. Great ambiance.

This place out paced our expectations! Atmosphere is great. Mojitas and margaritas were right on target. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. None of us could finish our meals! Service was slow, but this helped us enjoy our drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. We will be regulars. And sports on TV!

  • Don R.

The service is good the food comes fast and the food is good but the taco salad needs work the key word in it all is salad it had very little lettuce in it other then that it's a good place to eat.

  • Hector N.

This place was so good we came back twice during our visit to Big Bear! They have TV's all over the restaurant and a small bar area, so you can always find a game playing. Their staff is friendly and attentive and the food is terrific. Shrimp Enchiladas and Chicken Tacos were great, as are their margaritas! They have a self serve salsa bar and also outdoor patio seating. They also allow pets in the outdoor patio but they don't have TV's out there. We definitely recommend stopping here if you're ever in the area.

On a family vacation in Big Bear and looking for somewhere to eat? Follow the yelp recommendations and go to the Hacienda! Lots of neat artwork and lighting accents in this place! All the salsas in the salsa bar are really good! Use caution! One is spicy! Pretty sure I ate my weight in chips and salsa alone! Our waiter was an older gentleman who was polite but a little weird. Took our order across the room at the computer instead of table side! It was pretty awkward shouting what we wanted across the restaurant! But, we got all our food fast and our drinks stayed full! Can't complain too much! Hubby had a wet carne asada burrito! It was good but the sauce is spicy! On the side may be better! Carne asada was really good and tender! I got the trio fajitas! They were delicious and had so much flavor! Rice and beans were some of the best I have ever had! I wasn't a fan of my peach margarita, it was pretty bitter and had way way bottom shelf tequila! Should have gotten a top shelf one and it would have been smoother I'm sure! They were nice enough to take it off of the bill for me though! I would highly recommend this place too anyone as far as the food goes.... Service, meh..... But I wouldn't let that deter me! Definitely worth the visit!

This place is amazing!! Literally, the best taco and enchilada my sister and I have ever tasted. We took a risk and decided to eat here without looking at reviews, prices, or the menu - and it was the best decision we made! Walked in on a Saturday night and got seated immediately! The hostess gave us chips, which were phenomenal and BOTTOMLESS, and our server took our order. Our food came out quickly and was so, incredibly delicious; we couldn't get enough of it! The portions were fairly big too! The atmosphere was fantastic as well, with huge TVs playing sports games as well as an awesome salsa bar! Probably the best Mexican restaurant we've been to, and we're from LA. Wish we lived in Big Bear so we can eat this every night!

As most yelpers state "margaritas are awesome" oh yes... yes, they are. Sadly, they don't take reservations unless you have a large group. When the mountain is hoppin' this place is packed. We started with an app of chile rellano (best food item of the night) I had a dilemma while trying to choose between the carnitas & chile verde - waitress recommended the carnitas - it was quite good. Fast friendly service and Gi-normous portions!!

Funny, your Yelp add says that dogs are allowed. However, when we tried to dine at your establishment today the response I received to my question of "Do you allow dogs?" was "Not right now." We found a lovely restaurant right down the street (Sonora Cantina) that happily accepted both our dog and our money.

Stopped in for a quick bite and had a berry margarita and it was awesome - had all kinds of berries with a bit of jalapeño and was so yummy! Had the chicken tortilla soup which hit the spot.

  • Jeremiah F.

Decent place. I had the carnitas which had tender pork. Usually it's served with a sauce but this wasn't so it was a little dry. The house margaritas are pretty good. They use Jose Cuervo gold and a pre-made house made mix $8.50. It wasn't my favorite so I asked for the Cadillac, $11, which was mentioned a lot, but got the same Cuervo/mix. Maybe he poured it for another second or two....

Got this recommendation from a local. Very nice patio. Decor and music was on point for a Mexican restaurant. Free salsa bar was excellent! We bought the guacamole and it reminded me of my mom's which was awesome truly great!! The food was great and truly authentic. Couldn't believe that REAL Mexican food would be up here but it is! Almost 5 stars but what brought it down was that they didn't make their own tortillas. Otherwise it would compete with the best Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles.

  • Adriana P.

The service here was shotty at best. The host with his mowhawk looked at my husband and I when we first walked in and then deiced he should make a phone call Then I asked a server how we get seated and she said wait for the host. The chips and salsa are wonderful and the carne aside and burrito were pretty outstanding. El Jacalito has much better service and the food is the same soon go there for a better experience!

We just got back from Big Bear a couple weeks ago and we are craving their fajitas! Love the salsa bar and atmosphere. I have been coming to Big Bear since I was a kid, I am glad to see they have a really good mexican place now! Def. will make sure to come here everytime we are in Big Bear

It's our first time to come to Big Bear Lake and chose the most decent looking restaurant and found the Hacienda Grill. Excited and was seated by this moustached waiter. I ordered a Fajita with shrimp, beef and chicken, refried beans with rice and so on. All the meat are very tough and hard to bite, and like as if it came from the fridge from the previous week. The beans are "Literally Refried" and totally dried and burned. My wife's order, Milanesa, the meat was very hard and saggy. We were wondering if the cook was angry at someone or what. But what kind of preparation transpired in the kitchen? To make this even worst, the same waiter serving us asked how is our food WHILE ACTUALLY WALKING AWAY FROM US and also while our teeth are wrestling with the food they served us. This place is so HORRIBLE. My wife told me that we were better off grabbing a quick Carl's Jr combo than frustrate ourselves with a whopping $65 upsetting dinner. I will never come back to this place again. I can almost imagine that if we were to come back to Big Bear Lake, we wouldn't even turn our head towards this restaurant because it leave give us a sour taste of our experience of this beautiful Lake. Peace.

The atmosphere and ambience are the main attractions of the restaurants. The food is tasty and the salsa bar definitely adds another element. They have various seating options including the bar, general seating inside, or patio seating which with heat lamps. The waitstaff was prompt and courteous, the restaurant was clean, and the parking was decent considering everyone up there drives a full-size truck.

    (4)
  • Kimberly S.

The food was excellent! Their carnitas tortas are HUGE. Only thing, it should come with a side if beans or something, you shouldn't get charged extra for 1 side, as they are pricy for the food the fare they serve. My companion had the Barbacoa and loves it! If you like a strong margarita, this is your place.

  • Laura A.

This place is delicious! I had the shrimp enchilada and it was really good!! I also ordered a sangria, and that unfortunately tasted like nothing. I usually don't send food back, but this seriously tasted like watered down nothing. So I ordered a mojito and sent the sangria back. They were quick and easy about it. No hassle. Then the mojito came back STRONG. alrighty then! Lol but delicious. Jessica was really nice and I really like her smile. :-)

Our second time at Taco Tuesday and we really appreciate the great Service of the bartender. Mike is great at what he does and is very professional and pleasant. He is a great asset to have in a place where you have to make a lot of people happy all at once..

great hamburgers and great food and gas to get there I really liked it. Oops I just realized I forgot to finish this review its been sitting in drafts for two years. Their food is not as good as when I first wrote this review but it is still an excellent restaurant with great ambiance and a great place to go.

The service was prompt and food came out quickly. Food was delicious. The shrimp ceviche was to die for and the portion was almost a meal by its self. My wife had the sangria and it was also very good. Staff was pleasant. I would come back again.

The 2013 version is waaayyyyy better than the pre-remodel era. The food has always more than just "okay", but it was quite the basic and expected Mexican restaurant. Now, and especially for a tourist town, it's become a really great experience. The decor inside is stunning, and the new outdoor patio is absolutely lovely on a sunny day. I love the lights, the artwork, and even the fabrics chosen. The bar area is set off to one side with all the TV's, so it doesn't distract from having breakfast, lunch, or dinner out, giving a choice to the customers to want, or don't want that. Check out some of these pics: yelp.com/biz_photos/haci… yelp.com/biz_photos/haci… yelp.com/biz_photos/haci… yelp.com/biz_photos/haci… yelp.com/biz_photos/haci… The prices of the food is very reasonable. For example, 16oz drafts domestic $3.50; imports $4.50. My massive Chile Verde burrito - $8.95 with extra chile verde sauce atop was nothing short of awesome, and too large -- I couldn't finish it. Combo plates and more elaborate dinner are available from $12.99 up. Service was very pleasant and accommodating for my table of 3 (with the Mama & her BF). Love when my expectation has been exceeded. Let's celebrate with some tequila! yelp.com/biz_photos/haci…

A very great experience on my trip to big bear. Was craving some mexican food & this resturant hit the spot! The decoration is beautiful and sets the mood perfectly! Great for sports as well because of the big tvs on all the walls! Would definitely recommend for a nice couples dinner or a big family as well! Check it out!

We recently bought a cabin in Big Bear. Every weekend for the past 4 weeks, we've been up fixing it up. We discovered Hacienda's and it's our Go To place 1st thing when we get into town for dinner. The Fresh Salsa Bar is the bomb. The food has always been served HOT, and abundantly plated. I love that I can order a salad in a Mexican place and have real mixed greens, and not just watery iceberg or Romaine as my only other option. Service is speedy, but that might be because we go straight to the bar. Their Cadillac's are VERY tasty and strong. We only need ONE and they are reasonably priced, compared to what we are used to down the hill. They also have a dog friendly outdoor patio seating.

Best Mexican restaurant and sports bar in town. They have a great salsa, awesome happy hour specials, and about a half dozen big screens for watching your favorite teams. In fact, I called ahead and Krista had my game on when I showed up! The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable about drink and food choices. I would highly recommend this establishment for anyone visiting the Big Bear area.

I'm a big fan of Haciendas Grill and a loyal supporter of the owners who also owns El Jacalito on Pine Knot Blvd. I've followed them for years since they had a little one below the Bowling Alley and have recommend either place to all my clients that visits Big Bear. I have recommend the Ribs for meat lovers and it's a big surprise that a Mex Grill does good Ribs? Well they do except for yesterday's dinner, I got the 1/2 rack and it was over cooked hard and chewy, I couldn't go past the third rib and asked for Carlos the Mgr. He was very apologetic and asked if I wanted a fresh whole rack or something else, I declined and he took care of the whole check (big kuddos). Carlos does a great job running Haciendas but he needs good help or help training the staff, he can only do so much and the staff should always have the sense of urgency to provide quality hospitable service! It's a hit'n miss for service when I go there, sometimes their on top of it and other times they drop the ball. I'm a creature of habit and loyal so I'll be back! Plus the margaritas are yummy!

We wanted to try some place different during this stay in Big Bear. Our friend had recommended Hacienda Grill. Come to find out, it has the same owners as El Jacalito! We were seated right away, and they were busy. I really liked the atmosphere here a bit more than El Jacalito. The meal was incredible. Enjoyed the salsa bar too! But the service? It was OUTSTANDING! Everyone worked together as a team.

Eight family members had dinner here a couple nights ago. After talking with our family we have concluded that the food, margaritas and even the service wasn't very good. It's been our go to place each summer and after this visit we will probably look for another restaurant.

Went here Saturday night after snowboarding with my wife. Got there around 8:45. Sat at the bar. From the time we walked in and sat down at the bar. The bartender was more concern about cleaning his bar than serving customers. Even though the place did not close till 10:00. Also the bartender and another waiter were more interested in serving drinks to a couple young girls having a party in the restaurant. Never saw the bartender or waiter ever ask for an ID after about 20 minutes was finally asked if I wanted to order any food. Which I did. When I got my order it was incorrect. To make matters worse with all that bar cleaning the bartender managed to slop water and spilled alcohol all over a couple of steps leading to the exit. So when I was leaving I almost busted my ass on the steps. So overall I would not recommend or go back here ever

Pretty good Mexican food for big bear. The atmosphere is good for sports fans. Plenty of TVs. Salsa bar is good! I always get the fajitas and the quality of meat is good too-their beans are good. I usually judge a place by it's beans-they pass! Plenty of seating-never had to wait. Hubby likes their burgers and fries. There is something for everyone here!

Went here with family and kids to try out and I was pleasantly surprised by the good food... I say that because I grew up On Mexican food so a lot of places aren't authentic. This place is! So I ordered the Chile Rellenos with sides of beans and rice... All very Delish and well seasoned :) my kids ordered tacos and they inhaled in the food before I could put their napkins on their laps... Their salsa bar was good too but not a spicy as I'd like... We ordered some drinks which I got the Cadillac Margarita and it was crafted very well... Large amount to boot! All in all next time I visit Big bear and am craving some good Mexican food I'll be stopping by there... Pricing was decent as well just FYI...

Salsa bar very good. Asada w enchilada also quite delicious. The enchilada wasn't as warm as I like it the Asada and sauce was really tender flavorful delish. The house Margie not to shabby. We would definitely come here again also nice decor and very clean bathrooms

I had the best burger ever at this place unreal huge. I wasnt in the mood for mexican food but not much chooses it was close to my cottage last weekend the roads where really bad because of snow so glad to find this great place. The service was great food took a long time but expected since the place was pack. Totally worth the wait. The manager check on us and gave us a togo box. He was checking on the customers to make sure everyone was happy with the service. I would recommended this place.

One star due to the fact that I don't have the option to rate this place zero. My friends and I stopped at this place before heading back to la. Decent sized group, 7 of us. They sat us down, and NEVER came back to check in. With all the tourism that comes to Big Bear you would think a business will appreciate customers walking in. It got to the point that we got up and left, I doubt they even noticed. We won't be returning to this place.....

I was there last night with a group of people for the second time. I wasn't impresed the first time but I was hoping for a better experience the second time but it didn't happen. The service and the food could have been better. Again, not impressed.

The food was decent, but save for our cocktail waitress who was really nice the customer service is awful and other than our waitress everyone who worked there seemed generally pretty upset to be there. I left my sunglasses there and when I called the next day the girl on the phone said that she was busy but knew someone had left sunglasses the day before that matched my description and that the manager would call me back. I never received a call and 2 days later I called back, got almost the same response except the person said "I shouldn't count on getting them back" and hung up. The 3rd time I called I finally got a manager, Moses Gonzales, who barely spoke english and couldn't care less. He first said they had a big box with a ton of stuff in it, after a little begging he said he would go check. He waited about 4 seconds and said there was only a pair of reading glasses in the box and hung up. Basically I left my sunglasses there and got a fairly certain confirmation that they were there, then an employee stole them and the manager doesn't seem to care. Thanks a lot Hacienda.

Love this Place! I go there with about 6 of my friends every Tuesday for tacos. I give it 3 stars because they don't have a vegetarian option for Taco Tuesday. I will revise to 5 stars as soon as they make it an option.

Very crowded which is a good sign I think. Wait was only 10 minutes. Table was clean and all tools brought out quickly. Chips and salsa also arrived quickly. Salsa bar, very good! Could use labels to tell people differences in salsas though. Margarita, very good! Premium margarita wasn't cheap but it was huge 18 oz so its like 2. Service, very good. Order taken quickly. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as excellent as the restaurant and the service. The food was not bad, but it did lack flavor. The shredded beef tacos were very good, but the enchiladas were very bland. The rice was mushy and bland also. The kids quesadilla was small, surprisingly small. Overall, we will go back. The tacos were a hit, and I'm looking forward to trying other menu items. I will not get regular enchiladas again. Rice isn't that important to me as it's just filler.

I loved the decor, the food and my drink. The salsa bar was also great. The only issue I had was with the service. My husband and I wanted extra sour cream, but by the time someone came to check on our table our burritos were almost gone, and what was left was getting cold. Also, they do have a few televisions.

Short and simple: Food- ok (not great, not bad, just ok) Service- horrible!!! The waitress made it seemed like she was doing us a favor instead of doing he job. Decor- nice! Salsa Bar- unique and a nice touch Over all: regardless of how good the food is BAD SERVICE WILL ALWAYS LEAVE A BAD TASTE IN YOUR MOUTH!!

Come for the drinks. Skip the food. I had the chili Colorado. Simmered beef in a seasoned sauce. It was basically cooked little small pieces of Carne Asada with enchilada sauce. When I questioned the plate they didn't even offer me an alternative. They just agree me with me that it wasn't the way they make it at home. Again have a beer watch a game and that's it.

Maybe I'm picky about my Mexican food, but it was just OK. The House Margarita was pretty standard for restaurant fare, nothing special and didn't taste like there was even any alcohol. Chips and salsa were excellent, but the guacamole was very bland. We ordered a shrimp burrito with red sauce and the veggie burrito with green sauce. Green sauce was good but very spicy (as they cautioned), but the red sauce was extremely disappointing with a burnt taste. Overall pricey for the value. Great place for catching a game with chips, salsa and a beer. But I'll pass for dinner next time.

Jeez....ANOTHER BAD EXPERIENCE!!! This was even worse than the first time!!!! I got offered a drink after sitting at the bar for a good 7 minutes, but NOTHING else!!!! He didn't offer chips, a menu, NOTHING!!!! I felt like walking out on the tab, but decided not to. I was stupid and even tipped! Why in the world I did that, I have no clue!!! I had the drink and left. This place is unreal.....

Yesterday afternoon, we decided to avoid the ski season traffic of the village and headed to The Hacienda. There was no wait, but the atmosphere was still lively. Very family friendly, with quality high chairs for infants. I had the chicken enchiladas, which were delicious. My husband had the BBQ Burger, which had a warm and tangy sauce.

Excellent service. Superb. We brought our dog up for the day and wanted to eat outside. They opened a patio for us and brought him a bowl of water without us even asking. She brought us salsa from the bar so we didnt have to get up and leave the dog. I love when servers bring water along with beer and the service was quick even though we were the only ones on the patio. The food was super too. I got the enchiladas suizas and hubby got chicken fajitas. Even the rice and beans were flavorful and unique. The radish salsa was a different touch too. For sure we'll be back.

We went for dinner because the locals recommend... But it was very gross. The food seemed over cooked or too water downed. It tasted like it came out of a can. We expected more of this place being that there was a long wait time which we made. The server was amazing, she greeted us and was really nice but the food was too gross.

My fiancé and I visited this restaurant and it was good. They start you off with some chips and you have to get your own salsa from the salsa bar. My fiancé ordered the rice and bean burrito and I got the carne asada plate and a strawberry margarita. The margarita was a little too strong for my taste. The carne asada was good and same with the rice and beans. Our food was made quickly and our server was really good with making sure we had everything we needed. The food is tasty but a little too overpriced. You should still try it out though!

Been here several times now. I haven't really had a bad meal here. My favorite here is the potato hard shell tacos. I usually eat at the bar n service has always been good. Not many other Mexican restaurants to choose from in the mountain.

Cool atmosphere & the food was great. It was a great place to stop and watch the games on Sunday. Mostly Mexican food (with a salsa bar) and a bar, I didn't get a margarita but they were huge and a lot of people were ordering them... two thumbs up!

They only get 2 stars because they are so hit and miss. I've had great meals here but I've also experienced some horrible food and service. I'm not going to get into detail about either. What I am going to say is that the bad always leaves a bigger impression on me then the good. I remember the bad experiences and food vividly. The Good times are a little hazy in my memory. The only time you will see me there is if a friend INSISTS on going. I hope they get their act together because there is great potential. p.s. Manager, white guy, big, I don't know if he is there anymore, he is hurting your business not helping. This is coming from a customer so if the owners see this please take that into consideration. You guys might have to stick around more and pay attention to what is REALLY going on there. Maybe they don't have to, I could be wrong, they seem to do good business. I just think it could be way better and consistent.

Not bad just didn't like how I ordered a Cadillac margarita and the server said the shot was already in the margarita. So I don't know if I got one or not???

If you have Celiac Disease or are gluten intolerant this place is NOT SAFE FOR YOU. I have Celiac and learned this the hard way. Despite that I communicated to my server my dietary issue and asked him to let me know if there was any wheat or grain gluten in anything, he failed to explain that all of the CORN tortillas (including the chips) are made with wheat flour as well. So the weeks long digestive and immune aftermath of that meal was a nightmare. Steer clear if you have gluten issues at all; you'll be limited to salad and overly sweet, poorly made margaritas.

I had already given this place a try and was not impressed but a few days ago we were invited out with some friends who chose to eat here. Our service was much improved over my last visit and the quality of the food was also better. Must have been a different cook because I'm talking night and day differences, although the food had improved it still wasn't anything special. I had the cheese enchilada with a beef taco. Child size taco and enchilada. My plate consisted of 75 percent rice and beans. The price of my meal was nearly $14! For mostly rice and beans. I have had much better food in my home town and will reserve any further cravings for Mexican food for when I am back in my home town. Hacienda seems like a gathering place for drinking and watching sports. I've heard the cocktails are good but the food is way over priced and bland, nothing special here.

    (2)
  • Lee H.

Started with well-crafted margaritas and chips with tasty salsa. Then wonderful fish and scrimp tacos with well seasoned black beans and rice. Bright, light feel for atmosphere with numerous widesceen tv's to view sports. Throughly enjoyable.

Rip off.. Online menu $9.99.. I ordered to pick up... When I got there they charged me $13.99... REALLY....I told the hostess that it was different than online.. Since I did not have the online menu in front of me I did not throw a fit... She offered a $20.00 gift card mailed if I was "local". Really, if you are not, what happens then???????? The food use to be great.. This was not... dry rice.. like a desert.. terrible Pork tamale, bad soft tacos... They did not bother to put the sour cream or guac on either.. EVEN WITH $20.00.. NOT PLANNING ON GOING BACK...

My standard meal at Mexican restaurants is to start with a Chile Rellena and for an entree have a beef Chimichanga. My wife ordered the carne asada burrito. Both meals were outstanding! I love cheese, and the CR was oozing it. The Chimichanga and Carne Asada were cooked in a lime based seasoning with slight char on the edges. The portions were humongous, and both of us boxed about 1/2 of our entrees. The self serve salsa bar is great. I will definitely return, and highly recommend the meals we had.

As a weekender we often go to Hacienda and have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. At times we were hesitant to go in based upon the lines we saw at the door. But strangely enough the longest wait we have had was about 20 ti 25 min. on a Sat nite. The servers are always prompt and keep returning to check on our needs. Their Cadillac Margaritas are fantastic so it is a given to order one (or more) each visit.. The chips are very fresh and topped with seasoning we usually add the guacamole which is seems to top them off.Generally order the tamale and enchilada combination and have never been disappointed. The rice seems so fresh and not dry like many Mexican restaurants. Bottom line is a truly enjoyable spot to visit in Bog Bear.

  • Rene B.

I agree with a lot of the other reviews, the service is not very attentive. We went in last night for drinks and sat at the bar with 2 bartenders behind the counter it took forever to get service we didn't even get asked. Decided instead to go elsewhere. What a disappointment we were hoping that it would be a good experience because it seems pretty cool inside

Really great food and the server w had are really nice. The inside is cool and very Mexican with bright colors and painting. I would come back here for sure.

This place was PACKED. When we arrived for dinner on a Friday around 6pm there was a small line waiting to be seated. We grabbed a drink (nice and strong) from the bar and only waited five or ten minutes before our table was ready. Great Mexican food menu and fast, friendly service. There were three of us and we all enjoyed our food and were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were. This will definitely be a do-over in the future.

  • Duane P.

Way overrated. Went there the other day and ended up getting sick. The chips were not fresh, and the salsa was pasty and can tell it was taken out of the refrigerator. I will stick to Azteca where everything's is fresh and the service is awesome everytime.

  • Lovestospend C.

Overpriced and not much better than out of the freezer section from grocery store. The final icing on the cake was $2.99 for club soda. The waitress is lucky I didn't take it out of her tip. See if they like paying that price for water.

5 star for sure! Dolce was our waitress and was great! Helped me figure out what to order. We were busting her chops that the bartender shorted us a lil beer and she brought us an entire new one. Nice atmosphere. Kids loved it. Hubby loved it wih his hard:) as we own a restaurant. My meal was great! Would for sure come here again when in town.

Food was great. Service was friendly. Salsa bar had some tasty options. The remodel of this place is gorgeous. Love the art work on the walls. Only thing is the prices are insanely high.

    (4)
  • Susan N.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past before the remodel. I love the new look although we were there on a busy night and it looked as though they were just putting tables in to fill the room. Not much privacy unless you were in a booth. As for the service mentioned in previous posts I have NO complaints. Our waitress was great and there was no time we felt like we were just sitting there waiting. BUT the food was average for my Mexican food palate. Margaritas were amazing tho!

    (3)
  • Donald M.

Food is just okay and so is the service. if you use a credit card to pay be careful we have caught them twice putting on an extra 5-10 dollars tip, the only way to catch it is by keeping your receipt and looking at credit card statement, really kinking.

  • Lara S.

The guacamole was the best part. Food was okay. I asked for my tortilla soup without chicken. They brought it with chicken and then the waitress was no where to be found for 15 minutes. By the time I got what I ordered, it was 30 min after my husband's food was delivered. My soup also came with a small side salad that missing literally half the ingredients that were listed on the menu. Meh is right.

My husband and I tried this place after snowboarding and before exploring the shops and boutiques in big bear. The service was good. The chips had additional seasoning on them and they were very good. Instead of bringing salsa to your table there is a salsa bar where you have "mild, medium, and hot" options. We opted for the mild, which we both really liked. As with some of the other reviewers, we were never directed to the salsa bar. They set the chips on our table and then we saw the salsa bar and got the idea it was self service. Which is fine, but I agree with others they should at least say "and you can welcome yourself to the salsa bar," because the first assumption is that you are just getting seasoned chips. I ordered a cheese enchilada and my husband ordered a carne asada burrito wet. I like when enchiladas comes with lettuce, green onion, or some type of topping. This enchilada came plain with cheese, sauce, and tortilla. It was good, but a little plain jane. My husbands burritos was huge (he could only eat about half) and he said it was good. We both weren't huge fans of their red sauce, but it was by no means bad. We got fried ice cream at the end of our meal which was good. While we both wouldn't consider this the best Mexican food we've had, we wouldn't toss the idea of coming back when in big bear again.

Good Service and Good Drinks Was in town for a long weekend and decided to come here for the NFL AFC and NFC championship games. The place is new (remodeled) so everything is nice and clean with a lot of BIG TV's. Great food options with a long menu, full bar with plenty of tequila choices, and solid amount of beer on tap. We had some margaritas (hit the spot) with the mixed ceviche and carne tacos. Good food and decent portions. Most of the bars and restaurants in Big Bear are on the older side, so this is a great add to the mix. I will mos def be back for dinner or a game.

    (4)
  • Kim K.

Finally visited post-renovation. Good margaritas. That's about all I can say for the positive side. The food is marginally Mexican inspired. Sort of like El Torito. The last time we went was the last time. 6 people, all adults, ordered 6 different dishes. 3 out of 6 were under the weather the next morning. If you go, stick to the cocktails. But, even the chips are lame. Good salsa bar.

Perhaps I am spoiled by the plethora of flavorful Mexican food in Orange County, but I was extremely disappointed with the food here. I ordered the cheese enchilada & tamale combo with rice and beans. Everything was just bland. My husband had the carnitas burrito, which was huge, but full of saucy meat, not the traditional carnitas we are used to. My daughter had a burger (I know, we were at a Mexican restaurant, but they did have a whole menu section for burgers and sandwiches) and it was burnt. Not just overcooked, burnt. Service and atmosphere were fine; salsa bar was great; but overall, a 2 for food quality and flavor.

  • Kim T.

I have eaten here twice so far and had a really good experience. The servers were friendly and attentive despite the restaurant being pretty packed. I'm not regularly impressed by restaurant choices in Big Bear and Hacienda's food is really decent. I concur with the other reviewers in saying their chips and salsa are excellent. Prices are a tad high but based on the good experience I have had, I don't mind the price tag.

  • Sarah W.

I took my family there tonight while we're out of town on a vacation and the food was not very good. My carne asada burrito was dry, full of 90% rice, and the waiter was non existent. My nephew & husband ordered the fajitas, they were hot and fresh but flavorless. I'd skip it and go elsewhere.

  • Les T.

Wow! we were in Big Bear for a couple days and checked Yelp for some decent places to eat at....well I really didn't know what to expect at Hacienda since there were some mixed reviews. Honestly the reason I chose this place was because it was two minutes from our rental cottage. I ended up ordering the shredded beef burrito with enchilada sauce on it...when it arrived I almost fell over. The burrito must have been at least 2lbs and pretty tasty since I ate the entire thing. My wife ordered off the happy hour menu and ordered the chili relenos (sp?), fish taco and a pork tamale...and all were outstanding. ...and big! Everything was reasonably priced with the burrito coming in at $8.99 and the happy hour fare at $3-4....what a deal. Service was great and we couldn't have expected anything more. This one is a must go.

If I have to, one star will do. We start with an hour wait on a busy night... okay with that. We find a table in the bar,cool... shortens the wait. We settle in with the drinks my hubby gets. Krista", our waitress starts with a whatever attitude... Really? Maybe because we didn't wait to order drinks from her, who knows? We get a menu from another customer and wait for "Krista" to take our order. A party of 4 sit next to us and order their Marqs and get menus from "Krista". She then takes our food order and she disappears. She comes back and takes the order for the party of 4. But... you can guess... the party of 4 gets their food first. I mention this to the kitchen staff serving their meals and he tells me, we will get ours next. HELLO...really, dude? So, we left.

Salsa bar was super tasty! Probably ate my weight in chips! Decent iced tea... Large enough menu to really have some options. The decor is really cute since the remodel. Service was a little slow so just Make sure your not on a time crunch.

Yum. BBQ bacon burger. They warm the BBQ sauce. And the fries had a light batter on them making them crunchy and delicious. The mango margarita didn't taste like alcohol but gave a nice little afternoon buzz.

Male waiter was clearly on meth. Ordered takeout fajita chicken burrito. Chicken was dry. Beans where cold. Did not eat. Over all I've had fresher food from a taco truck. Big disgrace. From the outside you'd think this place could do better. Chef Gordon would cuss this place to the ground.

If there were an option for zero stars this place would get it. My girlfriend has crohn disease and upon explaining this information to the "manager" she was told "I'd be more comfortable not serving you". When further asked other questions, the manager could not provide basic answers, not to mention the greeter who seemed annoyed to even be working. DO NOT COME HERE! We will be filing a complaint.

Enjoyed lunch with family. Great food and atmosphere! Kids loved the Dino nuggets ! I had a Mexican spring roll. Yummy! My whiff had a chicken salad, huge and wow! Really. She took a bunch home. Loved this place and am a big Mexican foodie guy !

Came here for lunch on Saturday. The place was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table at all. There were TVs everywhere which was great because the NFL playoffs were on. Wife had the taco salad with ground beef and I had the barbacoa burrito. Both were good, prices were fair, and service was quick, attentive, and polite. When we were looking for a place to watch the Sunday games we decided to come back since, like I mentioned, there were TVs everywhere, and we had such a good experience the day before. Our second visit was just as good - ordered the nachos and had a bloody mary. Nachos were loaded and tasty. The bloody mary was huge, nicely spiced and chunky, but it was a little light on the vodka. Perhaps a good thing, considering the size. This time I visited the salsa bar which had some good stuff. Made me realize I had made a mistake not visiting the salsa bar the day before. If you go, definitely visit the salsa bar. This place was great and the Chargers destroyed the Bengals while we were there so 5 stars all around.

Worst Mexican food I've had in my life. I was so looking forward to trying this place out! It's very nice looking from the outside. Friendly waitress, but horrible food and took forever to get our meal. The meat was burnt to a crisp! The burrito I got was non appetizing. Burned beans, dry and overcooked meat. Don't think we will be revisiting!

    (1)
  • Naomi M.

My husband ordered a ground beef burirto. They gave him a burnt chicken burrito. He returned it and asked not to burn meat, but they also burnt his ground beef so he canceled his order. Our waiter asked if I want to flour or corn tortilla with my meal so I asked for flour, but never received it. The whole time we were there, the waiter never returned to our table and asked if things were okay. We had to grab another waiter. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Too bad that they can't offer good foods and services.

This place was such a delight, the food was awesome (enchilada, quesadilla, and taco), the service was super friendly and quick. We went here for our 9th anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for a better night out. The complimentary chips were definitely a big plus. Perfect for sampling the great salsa bar, yum! I would definitely recommend eating here :-)

Went last night for a celebration. Party of 8, and we were sat in a timely manner. Everyone loved their food. The salsas were fabulous, mild to hot. The green was one of my favorites. Ordered the southwest salad. The server suggested the shrimp. They are quite generous with the shrimp, and the salad was the best I have had. There was not one complaint in our party. We all left wanting to come back as soon as we come back to Big Bear.

My friend & I both had the Chile Reno burrito. We both found a huge nasty stem from the Chile inside burrito. ..I almost choked on it. It would make more sense for the chef to remove those before making a burrito with them. The green sauce was too salty. Not an amazing burrito.

Had dinner with a family of five and my kids were sick when they got home. Smells awful inside and the prices are steep for Mexican food. I don't recommend this place!. The location is great and there are T V on each wall for those who want to enjoy sports. The Guacamole was the best item on the menu.

  • Matt S.

Food and Service is terrible. We sat down and ordered drinks, they came and then we waited for the waitress to close out, clean and re-seat 3 other tables before taking our order. I had to get up and refill my own drink in the waitress' station. The food was horrible. The rice was really dry and the shredded beef burrito was very bland without any flavor. The enchiladas were really dry too. Their hamburgers were under cooked and bland. This place is an embarrassment to Mexican Food. I'd eat at Taco Bell before this place.

So much food!!! Got into Big Bear around 9ish and this place was close by and open. We elected to sit at the bar and received wonderful service from the bartender who was also a waiter. It took awhile for me to decide because their menu was so expansive. They even had breakfast. Decided on carnitas tacos with black beans and rice. So delish! And like I said earlier, the portions were huge! Great food, large portions, and good service. I'll definitely be back here the next time snowboarding season rolls around.

I went for the first time last week. The place is super inviting from the outside. Clean and new feel all around. I absolutely loved the artwork that was hanging on the walls. The Salsa bar was the selling point. I've never tasted such a fresh selection of delicious salsas like this! Too bad the chips aren't homemade because that would make this a 5 star. The fish tacos were really good. The shredded chicken was a little over seasoned. I will definitely come back whenever Im in town.

The atmosphere is nice. It's a sports bar and Mex grill. Service, while kind and somewhat friendly, was extremely slow. Average salsa bar. The chips are free...the first basket. Then they charge after that. I got fajitas- no seasonings, just flavored by onions and peppers. The taco salad is big but bland, like the fajitas. Saving grace: the appetizer, Mexican Spring Rolls, were excellent and discounted to $6 during happy hour. Won't go back again unless craving the Spring Rolls.

I loved it here. I came here last Friday night for a dinner with my parents and although it was busy that's typical for a weekend up here. Our waitress was fantastic and super attentive. I ordered their Carne Asada burrito enchilada style with red sauce and it's one of the better ones I've ever had on the mountain. The meat was tender and flavorful and the burrito was a great size for me to split in half and take the rest with me to work later that night. The atmosphere was excellent and they're sangria is HIGHLY recommended. Place can be a bit pricey depending on what you order but other than that I will gladly go back.

Was a good experience. It has great decor... The margaritas are good. Had camarones a la plancha. Yummy . A great tip. Ask for the extra spicy hot sauce not at their salsa bar it is VERY good.. The cooks have it available upon request...plenty of parking. Service was great. Recommend it highly!

We vacation in Big Bear every August (have been doing so since 2000) so we were beyond thrilled to go to the re-opened Hacienda. I got the Mexican salad, which was excellent. Full of plenty of grilled chicken, corn, black beans, etc. Everything you would find in a typical Mexican salad. Every ingredient was fresh. My daughter got the soft shell tacos...one with grilled chicken and the other with shredded beef. She liked the fact that there was a choice of a few different styles of meat...grilled, shredded and pulled. My husband got the chicken and bean burrito which came with shredded chicken, which it did NOT state on the menu so he thought he was getting cubed grilled chicken. He was a bit disappointed. The decor was very beautiful and comfortable. The hostess was very friendly and our server was attentive but not overly personable. We will definitely be returning!

Sub par. Came here for dinner with friends who have a house in the area. It was OK. No bad...but not good. Would have given 3 stars cus I really enjoyed the salsa bar....BUT service was crummy & waitress told my friend she had to charge her extra to substitute her rice for beans (she's on a low carb diet & was not asking for EXTRA beans, but to have beans instead of rice). Made no sense to any of us. In addition the carnitas were dry and lacked flavor!

The three star are for the salsa. The chili relleno tasteless. The red enchilada maybe " Las Palmas" The tostada no better than taco bell. Cute restaurant but not good "MEXICAN" Going back to Nuevo Vallarta...... Oh and the margarita....Wheres the tequila????

We arrived on a Saturday at 6 pm and were seated right away. One of us ordered the chile verde which was just okay. I ordered the chile relleno, but unfortunately they must have forgotten to stuff it because there was no "relleno"in it. The little bitty bit of cheese was outside the chile, and it was over-fried. Had I known it was fried, I wouldn't have ordered it. Did not like it all. Some kids in our party ordered the chicken nuggets, and they looked like the frozen kind, not restaurant quality. The kids' sodas were $3 a pop, and the waitress never offered to refill their drinks. We were also charged for something we did not consume. There was a party of 8 close to us who left a mess behind. When the bus boy cleaned that table, he wiped it, but never even bothered to pick up the dropped utensils nor the food from the floor. Disgusting.

Came here to watch the play off game this past Sunday. They had lots of TVs, which was perfect! The fiance and I ordered beer and sangria (which was a little strong for my tastes) and a giant chimichanga! The food was alright. Nothing spectacular. Though the fiance keep going back for more salsa at the salsa bar. Now if only they would keep coming with the chips. Service was a bit all over the place. Our server seemed . . . loopy. She was nice though. Anyway, if I want to eat up at big bear, I won't be coming back here.

I am a fan of blood marries I love those damn things. Not the greatest here. The food is good. A bit expensive for the quality but very good. In Big Bear this is the best Mexican place you will find. If you're hungry and you love spicy come here and get all the spicy you want. They don't take reservations, but they do a great job getting you in. I came with a large group, and we didn't wait more than 25 min at peak hour (around 7pm). No hesitation this is a going to be a good decision for you

Came with the family a couple of weeks ago. One of the best chile relleno burritos I've ever had. Also, loved the self-serve salsa and spicy carrots. $12 for a pitcher of Dos Equis was very reasonable. Very good service. My 2.5 year old son was totally acting up, so we got really self conscious. At least two of the kind staff tried to calm him down and they even re-sat us out on the patio. Definitely not the resort tourist trap that it could easily be. These people work hard to provide good food and great service. Put this at the top of your list for dining at BBL!

Love this place. Their shrimp burrito and shrimp enchiladas are loaded with shrimp. Their margaritas are delicious and served in a giant glass. The pitcher of beer is a good value and served in a nice glass pitcher. Quick customer service and overall good experience both times I have visited. Definitely recommend this place I everyone.

Our last visit was less than stellar. The place is very crowded on weekends and holidays. Service very slow. We ordered the shredded beef burrito and tacos and the meat was so fatty nearly half of it was inedible.

Hacienda Grill is the single worst restaurant experience I have ever had!!! Stay away from this awful place! My girlfriend and I went there only because it was close to the cabin we were at. When we got there we were told it would be no more than a 30 minute wait. It ended up being over an hour wait. When we were finally seated it took forever for a waitress to come by and bring menus. As for food, the chips were so greasy and gross that even their horrible salsa couldn't cover up the bad taste. It took another hour to get our dinners. I ordered a bean and rice burrito which was absolutely gross. They put all the beans on one end of the burrito and all the rice on the other end. WTF? It was so salty I only ate part of it. A 59 cent frozen burrito from the store would have been so much better than this. My girlfriend ordered an enchilada and a taco. She also said her food was crazy full of salt, so she only ate about a third of her meal. She had black beans with it that were way under cooked so she only ate one bite of them. When I got the bill, I was shocked to find that we were charged extra for the salsa (which was free on the salsa bar) and also for the sour cream that was supposed to come with the meals! The waitress had a horrible attitude when I politely told her we didn't have water or silverware. The decor of the place is like a school lunch room crammed with tables. If you must have mexican food while you are in Big Bear, go anywhere else, even taco bell would be a big step up from this place. Also, I would avoid El Jacinto in Big Bear, since I read on Yelp that Hacienda is owned by the same people.

We ate lunch here. I had the albondigas soup and a margarita. The soup contains meatballs served hot was excellent. Soup was served with onions, which i added to my soup. I do recommend this place

Skip the food. The happy hour house margarita was decent but my second was mostly margarita juice. The fish and shrimp tacos are nasty. They put enchilada sauce in them and the fish was over fried. The "fire roasted chile relleno" was nastier...it was over fried and had very little egg on it. Once again had enchilada sauce. I think they must have purchased a few barrels of it and they're trying to get rid of it because every dish seemed to have it as if it was good or something. The chips were stale and the salsa was cold like they just pulled it out of the fridge. I wouldn't eat here again. The atmosphere and service was pretty good though...I'll give them that.

food was good. service was excellent. we had trio fajitas(shrimp/chicken/steak). shrimp and chicken were perfect. steak a little chewy. but good flavor. chips and salsa very good. rice was unbelievably light and flavorful. definitely recommend.

This place used to be good but now they nickel and dime every thing. My enchilada came with a drop of red sauce. I asked for more sauce and they charged $0.75. They messed up my date's order, charged for his drink refill and they charge for additional chips. We won't be returning.

Been going to El Jacalito for years, beginning with the little location below the bowling barn. Love the location in the village and the remodel on the Hacienda Grill is fantastic. Best place in town for margaritas! Tried their meatball soup this time....not spectacular but tasty. My husband had the fajita trio....plenty of food, well cooked. Consistently good!

This place used to be good, before the remodel... Now it is great! We dine in Big Bear 3-4 times each month and love mexican food. Tried 6 different Mex food restaraunts this summer. NOBODY comes close on the hill. Not the absolute best ever but Hacienda sure beats every other place in Big Bear. We have gone several times service is good to great depending on server, but never bad. In addition to great tasting food, Drinks are good, prices fair and they have done a nice job with the remodel.

We hadn't been there before the remodel, but when we did go the decor was beautiful and the food was amazing. I haven't been served anything yet than was less than 5-stars. I love the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and the carne asada burrito (wet is delicious).... mmmmmmm

  • Cat C.

Don't expect great Mexican food from here cause you will be sadly disappointed. It's really just A-OK but the ambience is nice and the service was good. The salsa bar really needs some revamping. All of the salsas fell extremely flat. The servings are extremely large so come hungry. I ordered a combo plate that came with rice, beans, a crunchy taco, a chile relleno and a enchilada. The chile relleno was actually good but all the other items were whatevs.

First of all, I'd like to point out that I am a very generous 4 or 5 star reviewer. So giving a 1 star is a pretty big deal to me. I thought the food was way overpriced compared to other restaurants in Big Bear. So paying more, you expect better quality. I also noticed that the coffee shop down the street has a more comprehensive Mexican food menu and they have really good reviews. I ordered the carne asada burrito at Hacienda because those are usually a reliable menu item at a Mexican restaurant. Honestly it was really really boring. It tasted like they bought a store-bought pack of Mission tortillas, and put a TON of unflavored canned pinto beans and rice. Then they added a little bit of boring slices of steak. It wasn't carne asada. It had NO salsa, NO seasoning and it was probably the most flavorless burrito I have had! For 7.99 for a burrito? I was starving and I did eat half of it and had a ton left over. At least the portions were good. I grabbed a ton of salsa so that I can eat the leftovers (I really don't like wasting food... it's still food). I felt bad for leaving no tip, because the waitress was okay, but honestly I am not going to pay even more money for a terrible meal. Seriously, if you are management and you read this, I suggest having a taste test with your food. It's not great, and definitely merits a poor review, and no returning business from me.

Decided to try it since it came recommended by a good source. We were quickly sat outside which was nice, but then this is where everything else failed. Ordered a Margarita, had to ask the waiter for it twice before it came. The food was a little overpriced for Mexican food and by the time it came out (we were pretty much sick of waiting and finished our basket of chips) it came out cold and tasteless. I ordered a spicy dish and I expected spicy. Wrong. There was little to no heat. Had to get up to get my own salsa/jalapenos etc to dress up the dish to make it taste better. The waiter was mia all night as we had empty water glasses the entire meal. A busser came and took our plates (finally!) and the server never brought us the bill. We had to ask another server for it because we were ready to leave. I give it two stars because I think this would be a nice place to come for drinks and appetizers at the bar since thats where most of the action was, but one star for the dining experience... too bad :(

If u love waiting forever, you will love this place. For sure the worst service I ever received. When we told the manager that we waited over 20 minutes to order our food and an hour to get it, he told us we were wrong. No apology or realization that there are service issues. In fact we were told by the manager that he showed it was 40 minutes...and that is good. He proceeded to tell us that if we want fast food, do not go there. He was such a complete idiot it was hard for me to believe he is employed anywhere. We had to ask for the check and when we got it, that was wrong too. Food that was never delivered was billed. NICE, I would rather eat anywhere than there. Beyong horrible service and management. Clearly they think a little too highly of themselves to think that type of service will fly. the guy who said CLUSTER F had it right. Save ur money and do not go here. Btw...food was cold and ok at best when we got it 1.5 hours later.

I would like to begin by saying this... What a cluster f@ck. I have never waited for 15 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant before. But it was fairly amusing to watch the two hostesses run around like crazy trying to clean all the empty tables (yes all 15 of them) before seating their guests. Not to mention also watching in disbelief as the restaurant manager snapped at a couple that had seated themselves in the bar area. "we don't like people sitting at dirty tables," he growls under his breath. He sent them packing to the hostess stand to give their name to the non-existent hostess. But I guess one shouldn't set their expectations too high in Big Bear City. You should only be that lucky to eat out and manage not to get food poisoning (kidding). However, my steak taco was a good size, the meat was seasoned to my liking, and I enjoyed the salsa they had on the table. It had the perfect level of spiciness going on and was very fresh. We also ordered the Chorizo con Queso to share, which was basically Chorizo and mozzarella cheese melted in a pot served with Chips. That was pretty good as well. But it's kinda hard to eff up Chorizo if you know what I mean. So overall, food was good, initial service not so much. I might return...

Both El Jacalito and Hacienda are good Mexican food. Hacienda is a little newer and has better decor but El Jacalito is in the village. The salsa bar is a favorite in our family and they pour a very nice margarita. Very reasonable. The service is a bit slow but not out of ordinary for Big Bear. If you are looking for big plates of god food I would suggest either place.

One of the only restaurants in Big Bear actually decorated for this millennium, with a nice vibe and great service. The chips and salsa bar were excellent too, but unfortunately the entrees were pretty bland..

We ate here back in 2010, and it was pretty good. Just went there in the last week, and it was't good. The fajitas were burnt, the tamale was flavorless, and the taco meat was dry and flavorless. However, the rice and beans were very good, but who goes to a Mexican restaurant for their for the rice and beans. If this had been at the posted prices, I might not be writing this review. However, there were two service charges added to our bill. One was designated as a gratuity at 17%, and the other was designated as a service charge, and appeared to be 17% as well, as it was the exact same amount as the gratuity. firstly, if you're going to charge a service charge, tell your customers up front. Don't tell them on the bill after the meal. Secondly, a "gratuity" that is mandated by the owner is not a gratuity, it is a service charge. No mas. Adios muchachos.

I was very impressed on my first visit. Rather than the country diner feel, this restaurant has an upscale feel with great decor and lighting. The food was good. What I liked was the fresh salsa choice you could get with your chips. That was great and I loved the regular salsa and roasted garlic. Both excellent. They have a salsa bar and I liked that a lot. My dinner was the taco combo plate with chicken. The only improvement was the tortilla could have been bigger for the tacos (made the tacos look small) and the chicken should have been warmer. It did taste really good and I didn't even bring up the temp thing to the waitress. The rice and beans were excellent and very flavorful.

Cool looking place maybe that's why people are confused. Horrible food Mexican and the burgers. Only western bacon that doesn't have onion ring. Ripping everyone bring them Stella 12 oz cups when your paying for 16 oz order regular pub glass with your beer if you decide to eat at one of the worst restruants I've ever been to.

The food was really a 3, but the seating was fast, and the staff was super friendly. I'm not saying the food was bad, by CA standards it was just okay. The restaurant is really beautiful and that makes it worth the trip.

Food good service very poor. Asked 4 times for silverware. Never refilled or asked to refill drinks. Forgot to put in a meal and blamed there cooks for forgetting so I had to wait until everyone was done with there meal before I was able to eat. Besides service food was very good. I would have given it 4 stars but service brought this down.

Great Mexican food up in Big Bear! We took a seat at the bar and were served promptly with drinks and our orders came up pretty fast too. I had an enchilada and chile relleno combo which was delicious and of course came on a huge platter. I thought the place was pretty busy for a Thursday night and everybody was enjoying themselves, drinks and food were good and service was too, thumbs up!

There's not a whole lot to eat or booze in Big Bear but this place has some mexican food. You can get a pitcher of margaritas and mojitos but not sangrias (which were awful). The place is really loud though, I had to yell at my server so she could hear me lol. Carne asada quesadillas... Meh.

Went here on a Saturday night after a day of skiing. There was no fresh powder on the slopes, it was all man made. So it was a fairly slow day on the mountain. After freshening up at the hotel we drove less than half a mile before deciding that this place looked good enough to eat at. The parking lot was full and they seemed to have plenty of people inside. The wait was about 10mins. Was not that bad at all. Our waiter was prompt on taking our order for food and drinks. The food took maybe 10-15mins to receive. Our margaritas on the other hand too FORE-F***IN-EVER! If I did not pace myself, I could have finished my meal before receiving my drink. In the meantime I was drinking my glass of water. Not once was I offered a refill nor did I ever see my waiter again until finally receiving the check. I ordered the carne asada plate. It came with a slab of flap meat, rice and beans. The asada wasn't the best ever, but it was better than at most places. To complement the asada they gave me a choice of warm corn or flour tortillas, I went with the corn. They had an El Pollo Loco, do it yourself style salsa bar. Nothing at the salsa bar really turned me on. The chopped mild salsa had a good flavor, unfortunately nothing else was worth a darn. No heat what so ever. I'd honestly rather have the El Pollo Loco salsa bar as they have better hotter salsas. Overall this place is more in the direction of quality than say a gringo style El Torito yet it is nowhere near packing the flavor of an authentic Mexican restaurant. This place wasn't bad, but I would rather try the other half a dozen spots in the area first before making a return trip back to the Hacienda Grill.

I wish I remember our waitress's name on the lower lever because she gave us awesome service. We ate dinner Saturday night around 7pm & it was busy. Our waitress was friendly & was working as quick as she could. There was a miscommunication about how much our pitcher of margarita was. Without hesitation she took our bill & change the price. I really like that she didn't try to make excuses & just fixed the problem. That's GREAT customer service. PS loved my chicken enchiladas verde :) I love my food every time I come here after snowboarding. The prices are average ($8-18) & the salas is good, too.

Abondigas soup was warm and a pleasant relief from the cold. Civiche was average at best - as was their salsa bar. I wish they has fresh limes. Margaritas are huge.. like 18oz. All in all, I would definitely recommend Hacienda Grill for good mexican food in a good atmosphere.

My friends and I were looking for a bar to go out to in Big Bear to watch football and ended up coming here because it was packed with people. We all ordered the Cadillac margaritas which were great. The margaritas came in huge margarita glasses! I ordered the vegetarian burrito and my bf ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas. The portions are huge!!! While waiting for our food we were served warm thin tortilla chips that were excellent. They have an awesome salsa bar with a variety of salsas to choose from to go along with your chips and food. They also had some of the best hot carrots Ive had. Our waitress was extremely friendly and the locals welcomed us. We liked the Hacienda so much we ate dinner there the next day. I had the taco salad and my boyfriend had the carne asada burrito. We had the same waitress from the night before who was again extremely friendly along with all the other waitresses who were behind the bar. Excellent prices, excellent food and drink, and huge portions!!!

This is my new favorite restaurant. The house margarita is solid and (coming from LA) a pitcher is a STEAL at $18. They'll bring you chips but the salsa is located at a salsa bar. Not only do they have two excellent salsas (we can't decide which one is better), they have marinated jalapenos with carrots, vinegar marinated carrots, and radishes. I love it all. Everything we've ordered has been delicious. The carnitas were moist and flavorful and the relleno yummy - although sometimes spicy. The green tomatillo (?) salsa from the kitchen is finger-lickin good. Husband said the hamburger was surprisingly really good. Even our horchata connoisseur raved it was some of the best he's had. They have a great sports bar area with lots of large flat screen TVs. Oh, and we've never had a problem with parking or service.

CHECK THIS OUT!! So the food was OK and the price was pretty good. But check this out, we get the bill and it looks like they charged us twice for the 17% built in gratuity. We soon find out that they didn't but while we were adding everything up we learn that the itemized bill does not add up. It should of been less but who would know right. Add a few bucks in or maybe it was .50 cents a few times, we had a party of 8, again who would know. So we tell the waiter and the manager comes over and tells us that because some of the food that we ordered had sauce on it, they charge for there sauces and that those charges don't print out on the bill. I said WHAT? You have to understand that when we added everything up on the computer printed receipt it did not add correctly. So we do the math like 15 times on several calculators and yep, this place was stealing from us. So now we tell the manager how the bill is wrong and she can't even tell us witch food had sauces and what meals did not. We caught this place red handed trying to add a few bucks to the bill and all the manager did was fix the bill. No apologies, no discount and no explanation to a mistake or a problem even that they will look in to it, nothing! THIS PLACE is bad for business and bad for Big Bear. I hope this review helps other people make a better decision and shop other Mexican Food Restaurant's in the area. There are plenty of them, enough for all of us. If any one wants to see my bill, I will send you a picture of it. We ate here on Xmas day around 7:00 PM Shame on you Hacienda Grill, your staff got caught riping off their customers and your manager failed if you ask me. We are both local and from the OC. We have a house here on the hill and we eat out all the time. Again, shame on you!!

Lets get straight to the point: Pros: - Seated as soon as we arrived - Our waiter was very attentive and courteous - Mojitos were pretty tasty - The girlfriend loved her beef enchiladas Cons: - Salsas were not spicy at all - Chips were beyond oily - My shrimp and fish tacos lacked condiments. They were served bare with lettuce, not cabbage, sour cream, tomatoes, guacamole, and onion - The tortilla soup was really just a vegetable soup with tortilla strips - All the other birthday parties received a flan with a candle; I got some ice cream with whip cream and chocolate syrup served in a salsa bowl Sorry Hacienda, I would not be coming back.

Hacienda is owned and operated by the same owners as El Jacalito in the village. The menu is generally the same with the addition of ribs and more seafood. My wife had the beef milanesa which was very thinly sliced, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. My dinner choice was the carnitas another very well prepared dish and an ample portion! Neither of us had tried these at El Jacalito. Given that the menu is so similar to EJ, we will return. The only reason I am not posting 5 stars is that the service staff was a little slow. It was Monday night, and they seemed to be 1 person short.

Sometimes the road less travelled is not always the best way to go...a truck might hit you or some shit like that. With that, I pretty much f**ked up when I got all exotic and shit and ordered the Enchiladas de Camaron y Papa...it was mucho gringo, not mucho sabor although there were 3 of em with beans and rice. I knew I shoulda ordered the taquito platter...can't really F those up. The missus got the carne asada plate. She liked it but the carne pretty much was cooked to the point of jerky status...but I guess sometimes thats not so bad and since she is Messican, maybe they were just playing the odds, considering I only know like 2 Messicans that don't like their steak cooked to charcoal. But guddammit I gotta say that the service was great (our server was "on it") and they surprisingly have a really extensive tequila menu. It's got TV's all over the place and the Pacifico's were ice-cold. Not so bad. So 3 stars for the food and an extra star for the stuff al lado. And next time I come here, it's gonna be the taquito platter and a couple shots of some high-falutin tequila.

By far, the favorite mexican restaurant in Big Bear for our entire family. Staff is very sweet, food is good & more open since remodel. Still hard to get in during the winter months. Recommend trying to make a reservation, but they only take 1 per 1/2 hour.

Decent food. My barbacoa burrito was tasty, though I wanted more authentic Mexican food. The menu boasts burgers, sandwiches, and other non-Mexican eats...so don't go in expecting down-home Mexican cooking. It's a nice place, though, and a friendly atmosphere. I'd eat there again...though, probably not if I wanted legit Mexican food...

Living next to Oxnard, I didn't think I'd be impressed with a Mexican dinner in Big Bear, but this restaurant was the best Mexican I've had since Puerto Vallarta. It was busy, loud, and with the big screens has a sports bar feel to it. But it's clean and has a nice design. Portions are huge, but not lacking in quality. The carnitas is absolutely delicious!

The chile relleno is top of the combos list for a reason! Amazing! Enchiladas were very tasty. Place is good for family dining or hanging in the cantina. Good diverse menu with non mexican choices as well, but really ...get the relleno.

Went here over my birthday weekend which just also happened to be President's Day Weekend this year. A friend strongly encouraged that our group of 7 head to dinner here. We got seated in the bar at a large table. Next it was time to order drinks. This place has an extensive list of tequilas so we imagined the margaritas would be pretty good, Wrong! We all ordered Cadillac Margaritas for (around) $9. We were very wrong and disappointed. There tasted like they didn't even put tequila in them. When we asked the manager about it, she said we had the opportunity to make it a double for only $2 more. Wish someone would have said something before hand. So we all upgraded! Next came food. We all ordered simple plates from tres echiladas, flautas, and carne asada. Nothing to complicated. Tortillas were forgotten, drinks were not refilled, and the only person drinking water in the group asked for a glass at least 4 times before I just went up to the bar and asked for one myself. Pretty good food, terrible drink service, and the service was mediocre. I'm giving more credit because it was Presiden'ts Day weekend and it didn't get super busy until after we walked in but still... I hope we just had a bad experience and it isn't like this all the time.

Came to the hacienda on our vacation. On vacation we are karaoke and Mexican food connoisseurs. Got the carne asada plate. The meat was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Huge portions. The quality was a+++++. Probably the top 3 carne asada plates I have ever had. Daughter had chicken fingers that were shaped like dinosaurs! Their salsa was really good too. Ask for the really spicy salsa that's not meant for human consumption and they will bring it out. The service was also a++++++ All the waiters are super friendly and help each other out. I wish this place was local to us. I have eaten at over 100 Mexican food places and have no problems dishing a bad review. Check my other reviews. As a pessimistic person I find the negative in most places but this places is has left me speechless. Keep up the great work

We arrived Sunday morning to watch a bit of football before heading down the mountain. The little bit of food we tried was just ok, as well as the drinks. The service was friendly, and they have a dozen or so TVs, each tuned to a different football game. Very cool. Parking can be limited. A little on the pricey side though for the food. We would return if in the area but only for a happy hour type of visit.

The food was good but they didn't honor the Check In discount that was advertised on their yelp page. :/ that dropped the score by two stars.

Ended up here for diner on xmas. I'm not a fan of Mexican food, so I looked for something else on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised how good the ribs were. My girlfriend liked her diner as well. Probably would be worth an extra star if I was a fan of Mexican food. No complaints about service or price.

On New Years Sunday, we couldn't for the life of us find a sports bar in town that would serve us and/or seat us... until we walked into the Hacienda Grill, where the bartenders were friendly, the servers were sweet, and the other patrons didn't make us feel crappy for not being locals. The crowd and staff was just lively enough to perk us up for the rest of the day, without exacerbating that ever-dreaded New Years Day hangover. Thanks Hacienda!

As a Mexican. I liked the actual art. However, we were a party of 6. We felt rushed, the house margarita mix was too sweet. We were there on a Friday from 4PM to 6PM. The waiter was in a rush and the restaurant was kind of rushing everyone to finish. We had the tortilla soup... It tasted like canned enchilada soup? Don't recommend this place and we will try a different location. Lots of parking .

Good food and service. We got shrimp tacos and beef chimichanga . Food was great and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. This is an ideal place to dine out if you are in big bear and you like Mexican food.

We only had drinks here, and for $9.00 for a Margarita it is gigantic portion. Strong drink, if you're a light weight like me, one will be enough. The server we had was funny, he forgot we were his table because when we asked for the bill, he asked who our server was....we actually didn't mind as we only got drinks and weren't in a hurry.

They close at 9pm but they accommodated us latecomers and glad they did! We were not disappointed. The décor was great. Some of our drinks were a little weak but they gladly fixed them. A little pricey but loved the salsa bar and will definitely be back!

Awesome Mexican food!!! Very authentic and incredibly good. Very large portions for a reasonable price. The margaritas are very strong and tasty and during happy hour they are ridiculously inexpensive. The chip and salsa bar were great, they have something for everyone. I strongly recommend the tacos, they were huge and tasted so good. The bar tender is very knowledgeable about tequila and they have just about every type you can imagine. The TV's are also very nice for watching sporting events. I will pay a visit to the Hacienda Grill every chance I get, just wish it was a little bit closer to home.

Remember, you are no longer in LA. That being said, this place is great for Mexican food. I wouldn't call it authentic but it's good tasting stuff considering you're up in the snowy mountains with a lack of ethnic flavor. The chile relleno burrito was very good. Get your own salsa at the salsa bar (so-so). Margaritas are large and quite tasty but not too strong. There's a sports bars with flat screen TVs.. nice place to unwind after a day on the slopes. We happened to go right after it snowed on a weekend, so it was incredibly busy. We were meeting up with the other half of our friends who got stuck in traffic. Even though only half our group was there, they still were willing to seat us. We decided to let other people go in front of us, but when we were all there, they sat us immediately. Very friendly service despite it being so busy. Been here 3 times now..can't go wrong if you're in Big Bear.

Carlos is awesome! That's one main reason this place rocks!! The food is even better, the tacos rock!! The entire staff deserve a big thank you for making this the best place to eat in Big Bear! I eat here all the time and it's always excellent! Go here you won't regret it!

Four stars for the salsa because holy hell it is delicious (mix the medium and the mild to get it perfect). The food itself was okay, the Chile Verde was a bit salty, the shrimp burrito was a little bland, but still pretty good. The Carne Asada was a little dry and the Cadillac margarita was WAY too sweet. However, the salsa, oh my goodness that salsa...

Although the restaurant had a recent remodel that looks great, the portion sizes on the food was a huge disappointment. My husband ordered a beef burrito which was huge, but it was full of rice and beans with practically no beef. I ordered shrimp and beef fajitas and was shocked to see the portion size so small. My fajitas only had 3 shrimps and about 4 pieces of beef with onions and bellpeppers. We confirmed with the waitress that this was their portion size. For the $18.00 price we paid, I would never order this and probably only go to ther cantina bar in the future.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
