The chicken momo were very tasty and perfectly seasoned. The chicken tikka masala , as reported by many, is simply amazing. Very flavorful and creamy. Excellent service by friendly staff.

I ordered dinner from Mount Everest for a group of musicians through Eat24Hours delivery service. It arrived just as piping hot and delicious as if I'd gone to the actual restaurant. The group loved it, and I was their rock star for the evening. The dishes they enjoyed: Samosas (rave!), Lamb Vindaloo, Rice Pulau, Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer. The house salad was super fresh and a wonderful addition as well. The Chicken Momo and Coconut Fish weren't very popular with this group. I had the Aloo Gobi, and that was also just ok. It made me hungry for the platter, but I'll have to go there to really enjoy that dish properly.

A friend and I were planning to eat at Bongo Burger after selling some clothes at the Buffalo Exchange (I really don't know why, the money I make just goes to more clothes. But I digress.), but after seeing Mount Everest just right across the street, we changed our minds. Naturally. It was a Monday, during the lunch hour, so it wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately. I had one of their lunch specials, Lamb Curry with Naan and Rice, and tried their Strawberry lassi. My order came out in this huge, circular pan, with generous portions of curry, naan, rice, and their lentil soup (I think it was lentil soup. Whatever, it was still very good). I enjoyed it immensely! I've had better curry, but I still think it was delicious. I couldn't get enough of the naan--it was very close to perfect. The strawberry lassi, however, could use some work if it wants to compete with Mango Lassi--it tasted like a strawberry smoothie, lacking the thickness of the Mango Lassi. The service was friendly, if not indifferent. They have a bowl of cardemom that you could take from after your meal, apparently to cleanse your palate of all those Indian/Nepalese spices. I thought it tasted nasty, but that's just me. Overall, I would definitely eat here again if I'm in the area and craving Indian food! It has the ambiance that both Vik's Chaat and Shalimar lack.

Mt. Everest is absolutely my favorite place to satisfy my Indian food craving. I used to live a few blocks away and would eat there very frequently, and I still make the effort to get out there as much as I can. Their aloo gobi is so delicious! I am always disappointed with this dish if I order it anywhere else, but I constantly crave the aloo gobi here. Their tikka masala sauce, naan, pakora, malai kofta, and samosa chaat are all amazing as well. The food is always right on heat level and spice-wise, and it's never greasy or overly rich. Equally as important, the service is always wonderful. Everyone there is really nice and attentive. The restaurant ambiance is clean and relaxed, and I've never had to wait to get a table (granted, I've only come on weekdays).

A great spot for an Indian/Napalese meal! This is where the old Bison Brewery used to be! We started with samosas (yum!), chicken (Chicken Chilly? not sure of name but it was really really delish!) and beer. Some of the entrees (spicy chicken with veggies, aloo gobi, tandoori chicken, lamb curry) were awesome! Will go back just for those dishes again! Other entrees were okay. Not great but didn't fare any better than what I've had at other restaurants (palak paneer). Basmati rice, regular naan and garlic naan to wipe the plates clean! Service was good when the waitstaff was around but it was slow last night -- even though the restaurant had only 2 or 3 tables of customers! Took awhile to get flatware so we grabbed some from the unoccupied table next to us. Our water glasses were empty for a long time until I asked for refills. The lighting needs work too. It was too dark in there. All in all, food is reason to come here. And I will be back!

This place was great! My bf and I were pretty tired after work and decided to order take out, which is always a gamble. Was really pleased to find they offer free delivery (that came really fast), plus the food was really reasonably priced and yummy! We ordered chicken vindaloo and tikka masala with garlic naan. Both delicious and full of flavor without being overly oily. We will definitely be returning.

Ordered my bf some takeout from here since he was in his finals. Delivery was only $2 with I think it was a $25 minimum. Got the veggie chow mein, chicken momo, tandoori chicken, basmati rice and it came with some free crackers. Boyfriend said the veggie chow mein was delicious along with the chicken momo. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry. They did give you a lot of chicken though. Now he's got me wanting to come here to try the noodles and chicken momo!

WOW -- everything about this place's food is just right -- spices, moisture content, pricing, all of it. Atmosphere is pretty par for the course for Indian restaurants, they don't reinvent the wheel when it comes to decor / service / etc. I like that it's never insanely crowded. Good job.

The house saad is always really fresh and delicious. They add paneer cheese in the salad which is unique. The chicken and veggie Mimi's are really good. I like the chicken minis better but my sister prefers the veggie ones. I've had their plain and garlic naan and they are always so delicious and fluffy! One of the few places with really good naan. Friendly service and great ambiance. Always room for seating because the place is so big.

Flavors were good, but I used a Groupon and portions were quite small. The total price was $27 for one small chicken curry (about 3-4 chunks of chicken in a cup of sauce) and one veggie curry (same size) one small box of cheap white rice and one garlic naan. I paid $8 for a Groupon and another $8 at the restaurant...that was perhaps worth the portions we got, but I'd be bummed if I'd paid $26 for this.

Had the Garlic (or Herbal) soup (guaranteed to repel vampires for a week of Sundays); chicken curry (smokin' hot); brown rice; garlic naan; and mango lassi. Whew! What a curry! Holy smokes... Yes, I suppose there's such a thing as too much garlic, but as I used to work for the California Department of Redundancy Department, too much is never enough. Excellent prices and food. Customer service is exceptional.

AMAZING, warm, fluffy naan! The veggie momos were hot and delicious. We got everything we ordered medium spicy- might try spicier next visit. Defs will be back! One downside- water tastes funny..? But the cold beer was enough anyways!

My family had an Indian food craving and this definitely hit the spot! I think we had 7 orders of naan by the end of it. The flavors were authentic and they were able to adjust spiciness for wimps like me. I recommend the daal, aloo paneer, butter chicken, eggplant, pretty normal stuff.

Thank you again Groupon! What a great meal and time we had here. We really liked the setting, the wait staff is super nice and accommodating. We asked if they would sweeten our Chia ice tea and with smiles, they said yes. We had perfectly sweetened tea. Our meal selections were driven by wanting to try new things, like Momo. Delicious ground chicken dumplings with a dipping sauce. How did we want our dishes seasoned? As hot as you can make them! This also brought a smile to our servers face. The evening went on with delights being brought to us from the kitchen as the sun was setting. The lights were not turned up, but little lit candles were brought to all the tables. Naturally making the setting much more intimate. Our surprise was that I thought I had purchased the Groupon for a restaurant that we have frequented and know that we like. When I re-read the name of the restaurant on my Groupon I thought "oh no!". But Oh Yes! We have a new favorite to add to our list of well kept, delicious food and delightful servers restaurants. Our Groupon did take only $12 off the bill, but as my Fiancé said, the full price of the meal would have been gladly paid for all the wonderful food and good service we received.

I have been here twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner ( just tonight ). The food was wonderful. Nepalese food here was so full of flavor. We ordered Beigan Bharta, Aloo Ghobi and something called Vegitarian Momo ( like a pot sticker with masala veggies ). We had never had any momo before they were good. There seems to be a mix of various foods from this region due to its location. My goodness it was all good. There was a little confusion but once explained all was well. If you like spice medium is plenty warm when they ask, "how hot do you want it" I could go for hot but I'm sure my guest could not. We also had one order of rice which was more than enough for the two of us. All this for a quite reasonable price. Lunch, the lunch was also awesome. Had it here on a Saturday a few weeks back. I got the lamb wrap. Can't remember the name but it is a lunch special. It was awesome. I think my friend got the chicken one. We were both filled as we also had some yummy veggie pakora. Everyone there was so nice and respectful. Made us feel like we were welcomed to their home. I sure will eat here again!!

Yummmm! I finally got to try this restaurant during my last day in Berkeley! I was craving Ethiopian, but since Finfine was closed, we decided to come here instead for a new experience. They have an extremely extensive menu, and have everything from you "bread and butter" Southeast Asian food ( ___ masala, butter chicken, biryani etc) to more Nepalese dishes. For starters, we ordered the veggie samosas. They were really tasty, crispy and hard on the outside, and hot and stuffed on the inside. They had potatoes, peas and maybe a couple other vegetables. They were very flavorful and were a great appetite opener. The appetizer comes with 2, so it's a perfect size to share between a couple or friends. Being quite hungry, I ordered the salmon tandoori ($15.95). This was huge and came out on a steaming hot plate with onions and green peppers. The salmon was very tender, fresh and spicy (which is exactly what I wanted). It probably had 8 or 9 huge chunks, so it's a great portion to share. This went great with the free naan that came with my friend's meal. I think he ordered the working lunch with chicken tikka masala. It came in a metal platter and different sections for the chicken, rice, rice pudding, mango chutney, thick lentil soup and potato and pea curry. It also came with a large piece of naan. I thought his meal was ok, not particularly special, but then again I never tried his chicken. The service was excellent, they came around to fill our water glasses often and were friendly and polite. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

I tried 2 things today that I've never tried before. 1) makhali naan - naan with coconut milk and spices 2) chicken momo - chicken dumplings with sauce As an avid garlic naan eater, I decided to order something different as the 2nd naan. It was delicious. So difficult to describe the flavors...it was pink on the inside and I could see pieces of coconut. I thought it was amazing alone. Both naan that we ordered were cooked perfectly. I loved how they were pillowy with a great chew. Not burnt whatsoever...highly recommend. The chicken momo...basically steamed dumplings served with a curry sauce. What initially reminded me of xlb (Shanghai dumplings)...the flavors were their own and the sauce really accentuated it. The saag paneer and chicken tikka masala were good. Not the best I have ever had...the saag paneer needed more seasoning and the tikka masala was quite thin. It was difficult to pick up with the naan. Still won't deter me from coming back...cause well, I was impressed by the other dishes. The gulab for dessert was ok. For some reason, those are just the best at buffets. Haha. Odd...but true. Prices were highly reasonable and service was fantastic. 4 solid stars as I am definitely a fan!

This is a fun restaurant. The food is very good and they have a nice selection of India and Nepalese beers and a pretty good wine selection. They prepare the food right over a counter that divides the kitchen from the dining area, which is a nice touch. The staff is nice and friendly. If there is a problem with this restaurant it would be that there seems to be several food runners but only one person talking the orders. For example, the last time that I ate there, though we were immediately seated and our water glasses were always full, it took them over fifteen minutes to actually take our order. This is not a criticism, this is simply something to keep in mind if you plan to eat here. Overall, good place.

I came here for lunch on a Saturday with Ken L. It was pretty empty when we arrived. The decoration and ambiance of the restaurant was pretty cool. Since it was our first time, we were going off yelp reviews and pictures for what to order. We ended up ordering the garlic naan, chicken momo, butter chicken, samosas, and a cup of chai tea. The food was pretty average to what I've experienced at other places. You can't go wrong with naan, samosas, and butter chicken. It was my first time having chicken momo and I was a little underwhelmed. I'm a big fan of dumplings but this one tasted a bit bland just like the chai tea. Maybe it would be better to come during the week too take advantage odd their lunch specials. Otherwise, Berkeley has so many other Indian restaurants to choose from and many I have yet to try.

If you're on south side and having withdrawal from delicious Indian food, Mount Everest is definitely the place to go. It's a tad on the pricey side (around 11-15 bucks for a main dish, naan, and rice), but it tastes better than any other Indian food I've had in Berkeley. The atmosphere is also really nice, if quite formal - people don't dress up or anything, but it's primarily a sit down place with tables and waiters. Good for a date! I'm a big fan of the chicken koorma, but they also have a bunch of different options including more Nepalese stuff in addition to the classic tikka masala/saag/etc. I didn't care for the momos myself, but others have liked them. The take out is really great also!

My favorite Indian food near campus. It's worth the walk if you want something better than House of Curries. The best part is the naan. It's so buttery and soft and perfect. I usually order the Channa Masala, but have also tried the Aloo Gobi, and Paneer Tikka Masala. It's best if you share things as a group, because the dishes get a little bit boring when you get towards the bottom of the bowl. But the naan never gets old!

Just okay is my assessment. I ordered the Mount Everest Herbal Soup (amazing), and the Mount Everest Sizzling Platter (not great). Put it this way, the rating would be at least a 4 if I'd just had the soup and called it a day. This spicy, garlicky soup was like heaven! I can still taste it when I think about it. The sizzling platter consisted of ground lamb, beef chunks, chicken, shrimp, and veggies; sounds amazing right? Well the plate is on the Tandoori menu which I am a fan of normally. In this case either the oven gave it an overly charred flavour, or maybe the meat was just overly salted. I'm not sure but it all had a very harsh, burned taste to it. And again, I normally enjoy the smokey tandoori flavour. Also when she refilled my water I didn't drink it because there were all these while flaky floaty things in it. If I go back I'll just totally indulge in some kind of creamy curry dish with a ton of their naan.

Honestly have no idea how this restaurant has so many high reviews. Go to Taste of the Himalayas. This place is average. 1. Overpriced. For $11-12, you get a REALLY small bowl of chicken tikka masala/vindaloo/whatever u order. WITH ONLY 4 PIECES OF MEAT. 2. Portion sizes are ridiculously small. 3. their naan just isn't good. It was really really air-y. we pay $3 for the garlic naan and i could barely taste the garlic except at the center. same with the onion naan ($3)....tasted like regular naan. 4. Food was just slightly bland. I don't know if that's because we got the medium level of spiciness, but (i've been here twice, first time was better..) this time the food just didn't taste like much. 5. waited about 30-40 minutes for my food. granted, they were really busy this time around...but I was really hungry! only pro: 1. good waiter service for refilling water. Bottom line: Only worth going with restaurant.com certificate. If so, just get the chicken momo, chicken tikka masala. vindaloo was not particularly good.

Holy sacred cow! This place has delicious food! But only if you choose dine-in as an option. Take-out is a different story though... The traditional Nepali tray came with an arrays of different dishes. Mine has lamb curry, mixed vegetables, pickled daikon, rice pudding, rice and naan...enough to feed two people for just about $15.00. They don't pack naan, or rice pudding for take out order...kinda disappointed! I also had their goat curry and this is probably one of my favorite dishes here. Beware of the tiny fragment pieces of bone in the curry though, one could choke to dead on those tiny bones. Check out my yelp picture to see just how deadly this dish can be. By the way, it does not come with rice or naan, so make sure you get some naan to soak up the deliciousness of the curry. For those who are wondering, let me tell you that goat meat tastes like beef but smells like lamb, it is like having the best of both worlds combined. Their sizzling plate (beef or lamb) was just an okay, it looked good, smelled wonderful, but did not win me over. I also like their Nepali beer...but who doesn't like beer? Their mango lassi is the bomb. The waitstaff are nice and very helpful. The restaurant is pretty dark at dinner time, so good luck reading the menu with a flashlight.

This place is kind of far from the hub of town, several blocks, but a fairly quick walk. The veggie pakoras were delicious, best I may have ever had. Lamb curry lunch special was decent and huge portions. I didn't see a drink section on their menu, they may want to add that. Downfall would be the miscommunication between the waitresses and me. I asked for pickled mango, and received sweet mango chutney. I asked for yogurt sauce for the naan, and got actual yogurt. Oh well, still had a good time!

Good food, not great. Berkeley has amazing Indian food so I'll probably look elsewhere next time. That being said they have a good menu, relatively affordable and the staff is really nice. It is down the block from me though so maybe I will be back. If you're visiting check Groupon. Plenty of deals.

A very delicious surprise. I came today (31 January 2015) for lunch with a 20 dollar groupon and Mount Everest is definitely a place I will come back to. My friend and I ordered two dishes and a mango lassi (yogurt and mango drink). Dal Bhat Takari (4.5 stars): Absolutely delicious and I hope I spelled the dish's name correctly. This is a traditional Nepalese dish and it comes with naan, salad, and rice, and chicken or vegetable or lamb curry. I took it with a spicy lamb curry. The salad is a stewed potato, cauliflower, and carrot and it was delicious and warm with the naan, curry, and rice. There was also pickled radish and a rice dessert that looks like a donut hole. The portions were huge and they gave me one large piece of naan quartered. Sizzling lamb platter (4 stars): The lamb pieces were huge, but this dish was more dry, unlike curry. The spices were good, but the lamb was a little too dry, it should be more moist. However, it was still good, but it also didn't come with rice or naan so my friend shared with me which was perfect since I had way too much food with the Dal Bakarti. Mango Lassi (5 stars): Yummy, creamy, and refreshing. So rich and cold and delicious. Worth 3 bucks. Service (4 stars): The waitresses were polite, attentive, and efficient. They refilled our water promptly and our food came out in a timely manner. They did forget my mango lassi for a moment, but overall, the service was fine. The bathroom however needs to be aired out-- my friend says it was stale so they should open the window a bit more often.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Berkeley. Malai Kofta is my go-to dish, and they do a good job with it here. I also like the vegetable samosas. The servers are friendly and food does not take much time to be brought to you. It is a small place--good for pairs or small groups.

I've never found an Indian restaurant where I'm from, let alone a good one, so eating here was a great first experience. The chicken tiki masala seemed small, but I don't really understand Indian food. (Is the serving really supposed to be that small?) The samosas were good, and arrived really hot. The shrimp was good as well. The naan, especially the garlic naan, is great. Order up on that, because although I wouldn't normally advocate filling up on simple carbs, in this case, it's worthwhile. It was so, so good when paired with the chicken tiki masala. The food was solid, but looking back, I can't say it was an extraordinary experience. However, I'm glad I was able to give it a try, because it was definitely a good meal; dinner for three came out to $40, and was filling for all of us. Like I said, this was my first experience with Indian food, and it was a satisfying one. For those in the area, give this place a try.

I love this place and will continue to keep giving my money to these people haha. The coconut naan is to die for. Everything they offer tastes good and is fresh. The service is spot on and atmosphere is cute. What more can you ask for? I'm sold.

This place is just okay . Honestly I think there are so many better options out there . First off , please don't order the mango shake , it's a waste of your money . Second , the onion naan , they menu says it comes with green onions but it came with red onion and it didn't taste good . It didn't taste bad either , but nothing special or amazing . The chicken curry is pretty good ( for people who like spicy curry order it spicy) , medium spicy isn't spicy at all. The curry also doesn't come with rice so order a naan or a rice with it because its not that big in portion. The best thing I ate here was the chicken Briyanni , the portion is huge and was very flavorful . I will say this place has the best chicken , it's so soft and tender . In both of the dishes , the chicken was so good . The service is pretty slow but they refill your water constantly which is always a plus in my opinion.

I have been here many times, but this was my first time this year. Maybe the management changed in the past year, but I was thoroughly unimpressed. Me and my friend are both vegetarian and we ordered the garlic naan, basmati rice, paneer tikka masala and the avratna korma to share. Both the tikka masala and the avratna korma were bland, watery and under-seasoned and the serving sizes were small for the price. The naan could have more garlic flavor but it wasn't bad. To top this all off, the service was slow. Very slow.

The absolute best Indian food you can get in Berkeley. The lunch specials are my favorite as they have giant portions for a fraction of the dinner prices. The food has been wonderful every time I've gone and I used to go weekly when I was a Cal student. They also deliver which is the absolute best when you're cramming for finals. If you like good Indian food this is the place to go. My go to is the Chicken Tikka Masala but I've Tandoori Chicken, Samosas, all types of nann, and the garlic soup is to die for. Enjoy!!

ordered spinach naan, spinach aloo, and vegetable biryani it tasted okay, I got takeout and ordered mild because I have spices at home. biryani was kind of really oily everything tasted kind of bland going in and then burned painfully on the way out had stomach pains for a whole day and the taste of betrayal lingering in my mouth i could wax poetic and say things like, 'climbing mt. everest would be a better experience than eating here' but all of my energy was left in the bathroom sooo

YUM! My boyfriend and I have gotten take-out from here twice and had great meals both times. Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Mutter, Saag Paneer, Garlic Naan, Raita and Mango Lassi were all on point. We've only ordered Indian food from here but I'm willing to give Nepalese food a try based on how yummy our food was.

Starting this off with prayers and well wishes for any family members that may have been involved in the Nepal earthquake - I know a few of the servers had recently moved here from Nepal so I can only imagine. I'm a typical white girl - I grew up thinking Olive Garden was my favorite restaurant. Then I met Indian food. WOW. And Mount Everest. Now I'm absolutely hooked. By far, Mount Everest is my all time favorite restaurant. My boyfriend and I have made this place a tradition - birthdays, date night, friends in town. And if we're on a budget, we use the Restaurants.com $25 coupon to help shave off the bill and we end up splurging more. The servers are always as sweet as can be and the ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for groups or couples - plenty of comfortable tables and window views. I haven't been up to the second floor but I think they have a very large space for banquets or groups. MUST ORDER (and they give you levels of spice to choose - spicy is always perfect, not all that powerful): Anything lamb (tikka masala, rack of lamb) the meat is tender and perfect. Shrimp tandoori comes on a sizzling platter of onions and peppers. Palak paneer and Mattur Paneer (peas are my favorite). Chicken tikka masala is always a good go-to (plenty of meat pieces). Two naans - plain and onion (also tried the honey naan for the first time last time and was very impressed). Fish vindaloo is rich and perfect too. Oh and the rice palau is BOMB - I love the toasted almond and veggies in it. You seriously cannot go wrong at this place. Throw in a Taj Majal beer for my man and an iced chai tea for me - two happy campers!!! (Then we walk down the street to CREAM and top the night off with an ice cream sammich LOL)

Located on an unassuming corner of Telegraph, you'll find this elegant and dimly lite rest., Mount Everest. Oh the irony. Inside you'll find romantic and pleasant decor that heartily offers a sense of warmth; not quite a cave, this restaurant seems like it could be a great escape from rainy weather. The large windows allows one to peer outside and watch the rain work its magic in the oh so long CA drought. For the food, the tender meat really allows me to savor the taste without having to work so hard at chewing. The reasonable portions gives room for the delicious mango Lassi, tasty coconut chicken and chicken curry. Although, we could've done without the vegetable samusa, garlic naan, and the vegetable curry as they were mediocre at best and spoiled the extra room in our belly. But thanks to the kheer, a rice pudding dish that is easily shared among two ppl, we ended on a high note. Also, the service was prompt and friendly but we were among the few ppl here. Overall, a nice place I'd revisit especially with a restaurant.com coupon.

This is one of the best places in Berkeley for southeast Asian cuisine. When I come I always end up getting the paneer tikka masala, very spicy, and this is one of the few places that will actually make it spicy!

Let me preface this review by saying I love Indian food. I love naan, curry, Biryani, lassi and everything in between. And I have to say out of all the places in Berkeley I've been too Mount Everest is one of my favorites. First, they deliver! Their food was the only thing that got me through 2 full weeks of holing up at home studying for finals. Second, they have such a great selection of curries. My personal favorites are the chicken tikka masala and the matta paneer which is a creamy vegetarian curry with chunks of cheese in it. Mmm. Thinking about it is already making me hungry. I keep thinking I should try other things from their super extensive menu but I just keep coming back for the cheese. They also have pretty mind blowing mango lassi. So if you like Indian food, which, let's get real, who doesn't? Mount Everest does an amazing job of meeting all your cravings

We liked the location of this restaurant. It was clean. We walked in on a Tuesday night at 7 PM and did not have any trouble getting seated. We ordered a house salad, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, side of garlic naan, and a small side of basmati rice. The house salad seemed really plain and came with what looked and tasted like ranch dressing. We did not expect an Indian place to have a great salad but we were surprised by how plain it was and the type of dressing they chose. The two meat entrées had good flavor but the meat itself was not tender and seemed too chewy. It seemed like they took cold chicken and placed it inside a hot sauce. We had good expectations for the meat entrées based on the four-star yelp reviews but were disappointed. The beat definitely could have been more tender. The garlic naan was our favorite part of the meal. The rice was cooked fine. Overall for the price we paid the food could have been better. We do not think we will be back anytime soon

This review is way overdue, since I eat lunch here every month or two with a friend. Excellent food -- my favorites are: vegetable samosa, chicken tikka kabob, garlic naan, palak paneer, channa masala, mango lassi. Lots of vegetarian options. Wonderful, friendly service. Pleasant atmosphere. Reasonable prices. (And you can usually find free 2-hour parking on one of the side streets at lunchtime!)

I used a $20 for $12 Groupon here with my friend, and it was so good! We got the samosas, which were very flavorful and crispy. I got the lunch special mixed vegetable, which also came with naan, rice, salad, and garbanzo beans curry/sauce. It was very filling, and I didn't have stomach space for the rice. The vegetable curry flavor was great! There were lots of vegetables, and it was sufficiently spicy. I ate the curry too fast though and didn't proportion it with the naan. Flavors are great! But somewhat on the expensive side if you don't have that Groupon. Service is pretty good too; the waitress kept coming to refill our water, and she was pretty friendly about our Groupon too.

The best time to come is during lunch time. The lunch special is the best bang for your buck as you get a complete meal with your favorite sides and naan. During dinner time you have to purchase all these items separately. Mango lassi is the best in the bay. One complaint I have is that the water always has floaties, I think because of the table linens they use. It's not in a dirty way, but still, keep the fabric out of the water. Overall I do love this place though.

Lol, i dont know why but I LOVE this place. It's small its cute, theres never a ton of people here for some reason, and I like the burmese/nepali blend to indian food. I really love their spicy chow mein... it's so mouthwatering lol. Beware: their spicy food is actually really spicy so order with care!

We ate lunch here on 1.31.15 Good food, good value, attentive staff. Limited beer selection. A lot of flies although I didn't notice any landing on my food. I had curry lamb lunch special. Not a LOT of food but enough for lunch at that price. You do get a LOT of naan, though. I'm dinging you for the flies, food stain on my tablecloth, and limited beer selection. I would eat here again.

I love Indian food. If it's decent it automatically gets 4 stars. The food was amazing. The curries in particular. Fish was not fishy so i truly enjoyed that dish in particular. I'm a seafood fanatic. The makmali Naan was a little too sweet for me but it was soft and cooked perfectly. The chicken momo reminded me a lot of Korean mandu ( pot stickers) but dipped into the curry gave it the Indian rich curry flavor I love. The wait staff is amazing and very attentative and the ambiance is nice.

I've tasted better. It seems to me like every restaurant in berkeley have 4-5 star ratings. This place was alright. The food is good, but nothing that "wow'd" me. We went for fathers day and reserved a table for 5. Service was decent , we had a young lady seat us although we came in half hour early so that was nice. Throughout our dining our server did okay but she didnt realize that she forgot to put down our side order of rice, that was the only downside but no biggie. We ordered several dishes. if I could remember , we had the aloo tikki chaat, Samosa, chicken curry, chicken momo, garlic nan, channa sala, lamb curry, and choilla. the most I enjoyed out of all was the chicken curry and aloo tikki chaat served with cilantro sauce and a red sauce. Everything else was mediocre like the Momo, there was hardly any juice in the dumpling like in other places ive tried. Im not sure why everyone is raving about the garlic naan either, it hardly differs from the regular naan. I just wished they added more garlic to taste the difference. Overall i think maybe its because ive had better indian food , but i enjoyed the napalese side of this restaurant. its just nothing crazy would come back here for really. Note: I forbid anyone from ordering their coffee and chai tea. I had to add extra sugar in my chai just to taste anything and my boyfriend and his dad had to addextra coffee ground to even make it a coffee in the first place.

This is a great restaurant, they have flavors catering to all palats from mild to hot hot, I prefer the hot hot, but they ask how spicy you want each dish. They have great paneer, chicken tikka, and they have goat karahi, it's hard to find goat at restaurants these days. Not the best I have had, but definitely delicious none the less.

Dined here with my wife Friday evening. The group in the loft was pretty noisy, but it was otherwise a calm and dim-lighted atmosphere. No complaints about the food. They checked on us once or twice after delivering the food and left us completely alone after that. It would have been nice to receive a little more attention, but I prefer inattentive to pushy. We used the Restaurant.com coupon to get $15 off of our $50 meal.

I went here with a certificate from restaurant.com this is probably the only reason I would ever come back. The food wasn't bad at all but it wasn't at all memorable. The servings are small, but that's typical for all Indian restaurants I guess.... my meal was 30$ I ordered; Basmati Rice Garlic Naan Lamb Saag & Chicken curry with added potatoes with the restaurant.com certificate it came out to 15.56$ I would probably only come back again for their lunch specials. The lunch specials seemed way more reasonable price and serving wise. and again only come back for it if i had a restaurant.com certificate. ** when I asked for potatoes in my curry I was charged an additional 2$ Ridiculous considering I was only given 5 chunks of potatoes lol also I had always though there was potatoes in curry just naturally lol. If I didn't have a certificate I probably would've never came here. For their menu prices this place isn't bang for your buck or even stimulating atmosphere. If your looking for good Indian food around Berkeley I would suggest Delhi Dinner in Albany. They have similar prices but a bit bigger portions and WAY better atmosphere. You Receive Indian chips and dip for appetizer for free. AND they always have live Sitar music! WAY nicer for a date!

Got a lunch special, decent amount of food and price. Service was good/pleasant and ambiance was nice too (not too crowded or loud). You get to pick how spicy your food is, and the spicy= SPICY! (but oh so good!) Would definitely come back again.

One of my favorite Indian food restaurants in the area! I got the Chicken Tikka Masala Lunch Special and it was so satisfying! It came with so much Naan and the Garbanzo Bean Soup thing was strangely addicting. There wasn't much curry, so I had a good amount of rice left over, but it was a filling meal nonetheless. The service was also superb. A waiter came promptly to take our orders, stopped by several times to ask how we were doing, and continuously refilled our water without us even noticing that we needed more. Lastly, the interior decor was very nice and added to the overall experience of the place. It's a good sized restaurant and they even have a loft! I will definitely be coming back!

I ordered chicken tikka masala; garlic nan and a side of rice for take out. I paid $17 for all and was severely disappointed. The chicken was hard, the garlic nan was too thick and lacked any garlic flavor. Should've went to Indian flavors and would've saved me the $6 and awful experience.

My fav indian/nepali restaurant in berkeley! Was first introduced to the discounts offered on groupon, and fell in love with this place right away. The lunch menus come with lots of side menus, and the dinner portions are generous as well. Their chicken tikka masala, honey naan, and mango yogurt are a must try

Okay, so this is my 2nd review for this restaurant. Which I thought highly of up until my visit again yesterday, left my friend and I very disappointed. First off, just as my first review stated, the customer service is HORRIBLE. They never checked on our table ONE time and to top it off, the table liners were disgustingly dirty and so were the glasses and utensils! I still love the food, however, I don't think I will ever come back to this restaurant again.

As far as Indian food in Berkeley goes, Mount Everest is definitely one of my favorites. The food is so flavorful and seems authentic based on my limited knowledge of Indian food! The chicken tandoori comes with a lot of meat on a sizzling plate with lots of onions and green peppers. Let the onions get nice and caramelized before eating it with the chicken, and make sure to squeeze that lemon! The meat is tender and nicely seasoned, but maybe a little dry. The chicken tikka masala is also really well-flavored and the sauce is the right creaminess to dip the naan in. The carb lover in me loves the huge portions of naan, and the texture is my favorite with both the chewy and the crunchy. The basmati rice is also very fragrant and a little more moist than what I usually get at Indian restaurants, but I liked it. Overall, the entire meal was really satisfying and filled me up the perfect amount.

First of all, I am from Nepal.I went for a lunch with my aunt here. We ordered Lunch Thali which had rice, meat curry, veg and desert. Also naan and mango lassi. While eating, I found there was a hair in the meat curry. I called the waiter. Since the waiter was also Nepali, I told her that there is a hair in the curry. In Nepali language, she told "one second, I will figure that out". Our entire stay there, she did not even come to our table to tell us what exactly happened. Pasal ma Nepali ayo bhanera ghatiya service dina ta hunna ni(Translation: If nepali comes to your restaurant, doesn't mean that you should give bad service). They have written in their bill that we should provide tip as 20%,25%,30%. Who would like to give these tips if server doesn't comes to your table ????????? Very disappointed !!!!!!

The chicken in the butter chicken was inedibly dry. The naan, samosas, and cream sauce were great... But I literally ate all around the chicken and just left it there.. No bueno. :/

This is my go to in the east bay for Indian food! My husband and I even had our rehearsal dinner here and they were wonderful helping me pick out a menu and keeping everything within a reasonable budget. My everyday favorite is their Herbal Soup, which is a garlic soup with a few veggies. When I want comfort food, this is what I order!

I have only ordered delivery from this place but the food is excellent. I just ordered delivery and my order of the chicken momo dumplings arrived still HOT! I was impressed. You rarely ever get delivery nice and hot. Delivered faster than the ETA and the food has always been good :) Garlic Naan is nice and buttery, lamb curry is delicious.

We ordered delivery from these guys and it was really good ! They gave us lamb instead of chicken on the kabob , but fixed it for us...some of the freshest naan I have ever ate from delivery. We will order again in the future. We just moved to Emeryville from Alameda and India Palace was our go to place....but since we live here now this may be the new one. Still searching for a great Chinese place in this area...no luck yet !

My bf and I ordered take out from here- we were both extremely disappointed. I got their version of the thali (the dal tarkari situation.) I couldn't eat one of the dishes because it was too salty. The rest was very oily, but edible. The biryani was decent. I used it to dilute the other dishes. I wouldn't order from here again.

My favorite Indian dining experience around here. While nearby restaurants are great for students grabbing some buffet or cheap good indian food, this is nice enough place that you can get great quality and delicious pakoras, brown rice, palak paneer, and vegetable korma. The ambiance was great for catching up with a friend, and yet the prices weren't too much higher than the cheaper, less nice places closer to campus.

  • Patrick H.

Very, very good overall experience. Good vibe, clean and welcoming environment. Friendly and attentive staff. And then there is the food. I went with my baseline standard, chicken tikka masala and opted for the garlic Naan bread due to the number of reviews citing it as being great. The reviews were correct in both cases. My wife had chicken tikka. In honesty, it was overcooked or the pan was too hot or it sat in the pan too long. The onions were toast and the chicken was not moist at all. We agreed the garlic Naan was almost a meal itself. I will be back, and will venture into the purely Nepalese components of the menu. A very good place to enjoy this manner of food.

I give four stars to any restaurant that's dimly lit, candle lighted, and has a nice private table for two.

  • Daniel M.

Restaurant having no customer service and hair comes with food every bite you take ! I can't believe it as 4.5 star restaurant with the way they behave. So what I suggest the restaurant team, if you don't focus on customer service then it's better not to continue the food service anymore. We are customer. We came here to eat and spend our dollar for food. So we expect a good food with descent customer service. However, when we came to restaurant we were treated as we came there for free food. We have to wait for more than an hour for us to get our food in table. The chicken tikka was good but the chicken momo having hair in it makes us uneasy to eat their food. This is a blunder mistake on a food industry, I feel they don't practice any healthy habit of making food. And when we called to waiter to let them about it, they didn't notice us. I cannot say anything but this is not the way a food industry should run.

I loved this place. I came with three friends, so together we were able to sample several dishes off the menu, and I can say that every single one of them was delicious. I discovered coconut naan here, which was absolutely delicious. Everything had a wonderful, authentic flavor to it. However, the service was not good here. I would have rated this lower due to the nonexistent service, but the food was good enough to still give this place 5 stars.

This might be the best Indian food I've ever had. And every time I'm in Berkeley, you can count on me eating here. I actually just got back from eating here with a few friends and decided to write a review as the taste is still fresh in my mouth. I've only been here for lunch and have never been disappointed. Their lunch special includes a small portion of salad, four slices of naan, a small portion of rice, a type of garbanzo bean dish and your choice of curries listed. My favorite would have to be the chicken tikki masala. I've ventured out to try the chicken curry and the lamb curry, but I think sticking with the chicken tikki masala is a good choice. All this for $7.99!! It's a steal I tell you! You don't even need to get garlic naan. Trust me on this one, their regular naan is just amazing with the perfect combination of crispy and soft. Their chicken tikki masala? Chicken is tender. Nice small bits of white meat covered in tangy creamy sauce. When I said "spicy" I was really expecting spicy, but on my palette it was more of a medium. It was the right amount of spice to bring out the flavors of the curry. Their appetizers are delicious as well. You can't go wrong starting off your Indian dining experience with some veggie samosas or pakora to keep it light. And end it strong with the best chicken tikki masala and naan you've ever had. Trust me.

My boyfriend and I came in with a Groupon deal, ready to try this place for the first time. We were seated pretty quickly, but service was slow after that. It took an unbearably long time to have our orders taken and have our food brought out to us. This would have been acceptable had the food been good. Unfortunately, it just wasn't up to snuff. Most of our dishes were flavorless and bland, low on seasoning or spice, or just unbalanced. We tried the momos, we tried the curries, we tried the naan. Nothing was worth ordering again, or even finishing the first time around. I think the only reason we ate it was because we were starving after waiting so long for our food. The ambiance here also isn't great. It's not intimate, it's not romantic. It seems a little thrown together, to be honest. Again, something that I wouldn't mind overlooking if the food wasn't so bad. We were unhappy with our experience, and especially disappointed after eating at other better Indian and Nepalese eateries in Berkeley. We won't be coming back any time soon.

We like this restaurant and want to love it more, but they have consistently got our order wrong. Tonight we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala medium. It is mild and bland. I asked for their special orange hot sauce. I got cheap ass Shiracca from a bottle. I could go on about other issues, but I will not be coming back until the owner calls me back and assures me that he has trained his staff to understand English and can guarantee that they get my order right or I am sending it back to the kitchen. Also, you have some health safety issues going on too. Your cooks cannot be using their mobile phones while cooking without washing their hands. Mobile phones should be banned from our kitchen. Here is my number: 510-379-8353. Tim

I got the chicken tikka masala like all the other yelpers suggested and i almost died when i tried it. IT'S SERIOUSLY SO BOMB. got the lunch special...came with salad, lentil soup/dip, four quarter pieces of naan (so a whole naan..) and the BEST CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA EVER....for $8.99. i will come back for you...good portions. I'm still full. Really want to try the garlic naan next time!

Mount Everest Berkeley, California 8pm Saturday11th August 2012 Four Stars Northern California Indian Food is amazing. We started with some Veggie Samosas, which were filled with very flavorful curried rice. The Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Tika Masala were delicious. The sauces were thick and spicy. The meats were slightly dry. The homemade Naan and Garlic naan were warm, crispy, fluffy, and soaked up all the flavors of the food. I wished to eat this kind of food more often.

I ordered catering for 25 people means it is meant for 25 people. Sadly food only seemed enough for 15 people. Totally disappoined. i guess the quality has seriously gone down and this will be last time we will ever order from here.

first time customer and the last time i'll go there. there were two of us in the restaurant. i came in first. it took almost 30 minutes for my dish. during that 30 minutes, i killed one fruit fly and one small moth. i couldn't get the other little fly that was buzzing about. went to go into my purse for something and picked it up from the floor. the floor was filthy.......lots of dirt where the wall met the floor........all the way up the line of tables. kept my purse off the floor. the spoon i was given for the sauce with my dish was not clean. bad start. the other utensils looked better, but i cleaned them with my table napkin. veggie momo is potstickers filled with veggies and it came with a tasty sauce. the potstickers were not cooked well and were pretty tough to chew. the veggies inside were tasty, but it was a lot of work to get to the little bit of them. took half home and ended up tossing them. remembering the stains on the tablecloth and the dirt all along the wall (it looked like potting soil) and the fight i had with flying things, i wasn't keen on thinking about the cleanliness of the kitchen. so i didn't take a chance. sad. the server was sweet. the decor cute and the food all sounded delicious. but after one serving...........i'll pass on another.

Delicious! Ordered delivery tonight, came fast, within 30 minutes, friendly delivery guy, and warm excellent food! Got chicken tikka masala (creamy, spicy, tomatoe-y, big chunks of white meat chicken), aloo palak (perfect amount of creaminess, flavorful potatoes), garlic naan (standard yumminess), and chicken pakora (crispy). My only complaint is the sauce with the pakora is pretty stingy, not enough for dipping, otherwise, lovely. Not strictly Indian food, but my go to place for Indian none the less.

This place is 3 blocks from where I live and I wouldn't be surprised if they start to recognize me because it's tasty and too close to not just be the easy first option. I'm not totally sure what we ordered, one was a tandoori chicken type thing and the other was a lamb curry type thing. Neither seemed like what I thought I ordered but they both tasted quite good. So yeah, not the most useful review in terms of recommendations but they're batting a high average so I give them a shot, especially if you live in the neighborhood.

Came here for dinner with a friend. The ambiance in here is so romantic with the candles on the table. The food we ordered was disappointing. The naan was not cripsy at all even though it looked like they had toasted it. The naan tasted good though. The chicken Tikka Masala we had was not very good. The chicken was not tender. We saw a lot of reviews about the chicken Momo so we had to try it out. I asked for a non-spicy sauce for the Momo and they forgot to bring it out to us! Forgetting things when you only have two other tables... that's not acceptable. The Momo was like a Chinese dumpling thing, but not as good. The filling had a taste that I don't really like - strong Indian spices and such. Not sure why people like this place since nothing I had was very good.

I like this restaurant. I had the chicken tikkia masala and it was great. We went during the lunch hours and the deal is really good. It came with rice, naan bread, a soup and some lettuce. You can choose how spicy you want your dish and I had it medium to spicy. They did really well with the seasoning and it was very tasty. The sauce and the naan is really great and the portion size for the price is really good. We also had the chicken saag, which was also really tasty. I'll be back.

I've never had this kind of food before. It's like a fusion of middle eastern, indian, and chinese food. Sounds fantastic, tastes fantastic. We met the owner and she was very nice. I recommend it for a culinary adventure. (note, I had this review saved from 3 years ago lol, things might have changed)

I always confuse the name of Mt. Everest with the other restaurant, Taste of the Himalayas, but there is no doubt that you can get a taste of the Himalayas here. They have specialty Nepalese dishes! (Or, you could be boring and stick to your chicken tikka masala, biryani, tandoori, dal, naan, etc.) I must say, the goat curry and vegetable momo dumplings are quite unique. I would recommend the Dal Bhat Tarkari. The menu describes it as a classic Nepalese style prepared vegetable curry and lentils served with steam basmati rice. It's actually an Indian bento--on a plate with several compartments, so you get to try a lot of different food. You get a choice for the main dish (I chose lamb), and it comes with vegetable curry, a salad, basmati rice, a green lentil soup, rice budding, and another morsel of something that I'm not sure what it is, but tasty nonetheless. A great way to sample so much unique food. At $14 it's one of the pricier items on the menu, but you don't have to order rice or naan so it comes out to about the same. The soup seemed a little watered down to me, though I don't know what it's supposed to taste like. The salad didn't have any dressing, so I mixed it with the curry sauces and it was good. I liked everything else! They all had strong, distinctive spices, and the rice pudding had the perfect amount of sweetness. If you do decide to be boring and stick to familiar menu items, you won't be too regretful because their Indian dishes are better than most places. The naan is very good, probably the fluffiest I've ever had. Also, it's served beautifully cut into quarters and put in a basket. Despite its location in the somewhat questionable part of Telegraph, the ambiance is nice and, almost Indiana Jones-esque: long magenta curtains, a cast-iron grid railing, and asymmetrically placed photos that a previous Yelper complained about being out of place, but to me it all came together in a calm, exotic vibe. Overall, good price for good food in a rather fancy restaurant. They even have tablecloths! And the table-setting was so pretty that I even took a picture of it.

I love this place! I live close by, so when we want something really yummy and don't feel like eating out, we get take out. But we also enjoy eating in. Love the papadam and the lamb saag! I don't really think you can go wrong.

Pros: - good chicken dishes - there are always tables available - they butter your naan (so delicious) Cons: - slightly slow food service - chai tea does not include refills Bottom line: some of the better Indian/Nepalese food in Berkeley, but I usually don't go out of my way to have food here.

  • Iris H.

Mount Everest is my go-to when I crave Indian food. Came here so often they began to recognize me (and would even notice if I was just passing through). The naan is SO fluffy and buttery - I've yet to try a place with naan as delicious as Mt. Everest's. And I found my favorite curry of all time here: Mattar Paneer (cheese and peas in creamy sauce). DELICIOUS. I recommend ordering over the phone and picking up - it saves time, and they wrap the naan in foil to keep it piping hot.

I have never liked Indian/Nepalese food, ever. But last night I decided to try out something new. I ordered here for take outt: 2 chicken tikka masala and 2 garlic naan. My food was ready in 30 minutes and packaged really well, which is really important to me because I don't like too strong of a food smell pervading the air! The chicken tikka masala was really creamy, rich, and a perfect blend of spice and smooth. The naan was a bit too chewy for my taste, but the garlic favor was really potent and delicious! I'll be coming here again to dine in soon.

Yelpers: get it together. 4 stars for this place? I got the dal bhat and it was a pale imitation of what I ate all across Nepal. The naan - puffy cardboard - was equally inauthentic and illegitimate. Only giving this an extra star because the lamb curry was OK, the ambience was pleasant, and the waitress (who barely spoke english) was unbearably cute.

  • David K.

I love Nepali and Indian food and was pre-disposed to like this place. Unfortunately, the food was just so-so. The pakora were warm, no longer hot, when they arrived at the table and lacked the crispy quality they should have. The house salad was OK but nothing special. The Dal Bhat Tarkari was bland and under-seasoned. The lamb saag was the exception, well seasoned and quite good. The restaurant has a nice ambience and the staff was very friendly, but unfortunately the food was not good enough to draw us back for another visit.

Maybe I ordered on a bad night, but my boyfriend and I found our food from Mount Everest Restaurant to be lackluster, and we won't be ordering from them again! We ordered delivery and have the following feedback: Portions - portion sizes were small. We received a small portion of rice after ordering two servings, and the containers of entrees were only half-full. Quality - there was barely any cauliflower in my Ghobi Aloo, and too many giant thick pieces of potato. There was essentially no flavor or spice to any of our dishes. Each entree was very liquid-y and tasted watered-down. Again, maybe it was just an off-night with them, but all we took away from the experience was "what did we just pay for?"

Came here with a Groupon and had the fried chicken as an appetizer, and had rack of lamb and fish vindaloo as entrees. Topped it off with garlic Naan and a warm chai tea. All the food was excellent, attentive service, and a cute ambiance at night. A place we should actually come back to without a Groupon, highly recommended! :-)

It was great! Didn't blow my mind or anything but just great. Only thing disappointed me was their Chai. It's strange that it's actually really hard to find a good authentic chai tea. Their chai tasted ok but super thinned out. Not impressed. I'd go back there again though.

This has got to be mine and my boyfriend's favorite restaurant. We barely order any of the indian dishes but the nepalese dishes are soooo good. Try the chicken choilla (you gotta get it spicy), chicken chow mein, and chicken momo. So so so so so so good. Friendly service too, every time we walk in they let us sit at our favorite table in the corner :)

Fast delivery, decent quality food, but WOW... the phone ordering situation is comically bad. It's not just that the person taking your order doesn't speak English or can't seem to hear you. It's like it's also their first time using a telephone and writing things down based on what someone else is saying, and they've never seen the menu before. So be prepared to repeat your order a couple of times, ask to have it read back, correct it a couple of times, then spell out letter by letter (more than once) your address for delivery. Getting all 16 digits of your credit card number to them is going to feel like an amazing accomplishment. Oh, and the expiration date. For some reason that took 3 tries. I was on the verge of thinking it was a reverse prank call, but in case you're thinking the same -- hang in there! The food is almost worth it.

I was super excited about this place after reading the reviews. Chicken Tikka Masala (so flavorful) - 5 stars Chicken Korma (all chicken no curry sauce)- 2 stars Palak Paneer - 4 stars Garlic Naan - 5 stars Spinach Naan (kinda soggy) - 2 stars Service (confused) - 2 stars Delivery took an hour which is what the quoted. However, the service for take out was kinda confused. I called an talked to a lady who said they would deliver to our hotel. My call dropped so I called back and the man who answered said I couldn't finish my order they wouldn't deliver. I called once more to make sure I has called the right place and the lady answered again and took my order. However, when it arrived there were no utensils or plates which I found strange for delivery being dropped off at a hotel especially. So 3 stars it is! I'm guessing the food is a bit better in the restaurant and definately order the chicken tikka masala!

This is by far the best place to get delivery in Berkeley!!! I have ordered from them a lot and they have always been reliable and on time (and the food is hot and good). Once I was in the shower because I thought they would take longer. I did not hear my phone ringing when they came and they waited for me to call them back before leaving. Helpful tips: 1) Order on Eat24 ( eat24hours.com ) because delivery is free if you spend at least $25 (includes tax) 2) Eat24 always has tons of coupons and you can get $2-3 dollars off your order which can be used towards tip! Just Google it I typically get this... Lamb tikka masala Chicken tikka masala Rice Pulau Garlic Naan Mango lassi :)

I'd have to say this place is one of the better Indian places up in Berkeley because the food is very authentic and fresh from the kitchen. Marlin and I have been here a couple of times so these are our usual dishes: -chicken tikka masala with garlic naan: really creamy and delicious. Naan was average -biryana rice: really flavorful -chicken tandoori: mediocre *tip: don't order lunch special. Yeah the description sounds like you get a ton of stuff but the amount of chicken tikka masala you get is literally the amount from a dipping bowl with one piece of chicken inside and two pieces if they're in a good mood. Avoid this and just fork out a few bucks and get the regular size from the menu Service: ehhhh. Food: yum Price: ehhhh

My favorite Indian Restaurant in Berkeley! Get the garlic naan bread, chicken tikka marsala, and an order of rice! Yum! The food is very very delicious and delicate. The place is little dim and some of the beer and wine selections listed on the menu were sometimes not available. Get the Groupon for $10 for $20 worth of food!

We were looking for a lunch place to go to before returning to Folsom, so I yelped places in Berkeley. One of my dear friends really wrote an excellent review, so we decided to try it. The atmosphere is pleasant. It was a lovely sunny December day and we sat by the window. The server was a shy but charming young man with an heir of serenity. I wanted to try some Nepalese items since I am not familiar with them. So we ordered the garlic/herb soup as well as a lamb with mint dish. To top that off a chicken vindaloo with garlic nan, rice, and raita. Unfortunately overall we were disappointed. The soup was bland. I added some of the tamarind as well as some of the mint sauce. It was like a black hole sucking up any of the flavor. The lamb was ok with a thick sauce. One could taste the mint. The chicken vindaloo was not bad but did not taste like a vindaloo. The raita was decent. Perhaps my lesson should be that if you want Indian food and flavors go to an Indian restaurant, not a Nepalese one.

This is my favorite place to get Indian food in Berkeley. Must tries are the lamb vindaloo, vegetable samosas, and chicken tiki masala. The setting inside the restaurant is great, surprisingly so for the location and outside appearance. The inside of the restaurant has nice tables and decorations all over the walls, as well as dim lighting with string lights hung around. Absolutely beautiful. My only reasons for not giving this place 5 stars is the pricing (a bit overpriced) and the occasionally rude staff (with matters such as splitting the bill onto different credit cards). Great place overall though!

I thought this restaurant was great! I'm new to Indian, so I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan. It was absolutely delicious. The naan was light, fluffy and so addicting! The only downfall was that the Chicken Tikka Masala only had a few pieces of chicken--the portions were pretty small. I definitely will come back again because the food was great and I really loved the ambiance.

The food was great.. but because of the color of our skin,we were treated as of we came to rob the place. No greeting at all, no one came to check on the table and see how we were doing and if everything was ok during the meal. Every waitress in there stared and talked to us as if we didn't understand, also acted incoherent to what we had to say. We asked for the bill, took them forever to bring it, till i asked again. They sent a man with the bill who gave us a dumb look like we were't going to pay. Made us go up to the counter and pay instead of coming to pick up their money... didn't get a goodbye and thanks for coming .. NOTHING. I DISAPPROVE THE WAY WE WERE TREATED. Everyone else in the restaurant who had lighter skin completions were treated nicely , checked on, and never had to get up to pay.. even received a goodbye and thanks for coming.... THIS is a fine example of why racism still exist ... Just so hard to believe that in the Bay Area where we are so diverse in culture. FIX it or I will make sure this is brought to the news.

One must-get on the menu: Chicken Tikka Masala. Yes. This place really does have one of the best Chicken Tikka Masalas. The sauce had the right amount of thickness and flavor. The garlic naan went well with it. Other than the Chicken Tikka Masala, we ordered the Chicken Momo and the Chicken Pakora. I do not recommend those. Pretty average and nothing mind-blowing. This is one of the few sit-down Indian restaurants that provide table service so that was a nice change. It was pretty clean too. The lunch specials look like a great deal so that's what I will be coming for next time! The menu is very extensive as well so there is no problem finding a variety of items.

How have I not written a review here yet? Go to in Berkeley for some great take-away, and dine-in on occasion. Great value, authentic taste, and friendly people. Love the online ordering. My usual: matar paneer, papad, garlic naan and basmati rice.

Me and my co-workers would get take out from here for lunch pretty often. Although I don't really have any other Nepali restaurants to compare this place to, I can say that the food here tastes delicious. The highlights that we'd usually order were the chicken momos, which we would all share together, and the lamb vindaloo. The naan stayed pretty fresh also, even through all the trials and tribulations of a take out dish. I really want to dine in one day at this restaurant so I can give this a better review, but for now, it gets this short little review.

Yum, yum! I had a Groupon and tried this place for the first time. We ordered Fish curry, garbanzo beans and momo. Momo tasted pretty authentic, reminded me of the one I had in Kathmandu. I noticed that Nepalese doesn't use dairy in their dishes like a lot of north Indian dishes do. My stomach is much happier that way:) The fish curry was great left-over, too.

I've tried many many Indian places in Berkeley, from UC Berkeley area to West side. This place is quite close to where I live and decided to give it a try on a Sunday evening. Environment: The place is nicely decorated with Indian accessories (and not TOO heavily). Would recommend here for a date night or a special outing. Food: As usual, I ordered my chicken tikka masala and garlic naan bread (which others recommended on Yelp). The chicken tikka masala seemed to be really small in a round tin bowl, but it's actually a lot more than what it appears to be. The curry is solid, but the chicken is slightly hard to chew and does not give me the "oomph" factor as other places such as Indian Flavors Express (probably my favorite Indian place in Berkeley) did. Maybe it'll taste better if I did not order the dish in mild spice. Was also disappointed with the naan. It's hot but find it to be soggy. I like my naan fluffy and crisp. Price: It's slightly more expensive than the usual Indian restaurant in UC Berkeley (around +15%) but I find it totally acceptable given the nicer environment. Service: Good! Attentive to our needs the entire evening.

This is now my favorite Indian restaurant at Berkeley! I was very pleasantly surprised at the lunch served at Mt Everest. There were many lunch special options to choose from and the portions are HUGE! For $7 you can get a small bowl (maybe 1/3 of the usual bowls) of meat, a small bowl of chickpeas, a whole naan (came in quarter pieces), a big serving of rice, and a small salad. I actually fear coming here at night as I'm afraid I will be highly disappointed with the portions. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala and lamb curry.

I have mixed feelings about this place, most notably the service. The dining room is dim, I get it. It's a different ambiance, perfect for a little romantic date setting. You're also farther down Telegraph, fewer college kids venture off here (unless they live here) so you'd want the ambiance to fit an older adult environment. But if you're going to do that, your servers need to be top notched, and unfortunately, my experience with the service at Mount Everest was undoubtedly poor. From things like getting orders mixed up, to only filling up 2 out of 7 glasses of water and then trotting off to do something else, and taking SUPER long for our food and our BILL to get here (we're trying to leave .. and open a table for your line, how is it possible for that to take 15min+??).. things like that were just super annoying. I personally also hate how dark it is inside the restaurant. This is not Hollister or Abercrombie, I'd like to see what I'm eating, especially my friend's faces. Half of our table was covered in dark and it just wasn't enjoyable. I tried the lamb curry with plain naan that day, while also trying bits of my friend's saag, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and chicken curry. all in all, I really enjoyed the flavors in the vindaloo and if I'd ever come back, I'd get the vindaloo again. Also, not sure if this is common amongst Indian restaurants, but they don't make their own dessert. Some of my friends wanted to order this indian dessert but they said they had only bought 10 and it was all sold out. Meh. I expected a lot more from this place. next time, I wouldn't travel so far and just hit up IFE.

Surprisingly delicious despite the interior. Service was good and the masala so creamy and well seasoned. The spinach naan is on my new favorites list! If I'm in the area I'll stop by. Prices are about average.

I don't know if I ordered wrong, but my girlfriend and I were very underwhelmed by the food here. The papadan (I think that's right, some kind of toasted bread) was really good. The chicken momo (dumplings) were good but not great and the lamb saag was decent at best. On the plus side, ordering online was a piece of cake and the food arrived right when they said it would.

Mmmm my dish at Mt Everest was amazing :D! I was debating between the chicken momos and the chicken vindaloo. I don't think I could have gone wrong either way. The chicken vindaloo was so good--super flavorful, just the right amount of spice, and the portion was more than enough for me. I believe there's non-spicy, medium, spicy, and extra hot or something along those lines. Don't be afraid to go for the spicy! It's not as hot as you'd expect it to be. Anyway, the most popular dish for first-timers here seems to be the chicken tikka masala. Regardless of your choice, I don't think you can pick a bad dish here. Oooh and order the garlic naan! It's a perfect complement to the hearty chicken vindaloo. It's also just good by itself!

This is a great place to go for authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine-- all the dishes that we tried were delicious and well-flavored! I have spent months before living in different parts of India, and can say that everything here is quite comparable (and the Nepalese chicken momos are a must to try). The restaurant is well decorated, and the service was excellent- servers were responsive and accommodating to our tastes. We came early during a quiet evening, hence the restaurant wasn't noisy at all.

Entirely disappointing.... completely bland. I didn't find anything wrong with the portion size; the pricing is a bit steep. (30-40$ for a table of two on average) The biggest issue here is that I couldn't taste much of anything. The chicken korma was just heat and no spice. I can usually pick up on some other spices, but it was just red sauce without flavor. I give points for using dark meat, but I also bit into several pieces of untrimmed cartilage and bone. The biggest thing is that I felt the chicken may have been raw and given me a stomach ache; unfortunately ,the red sauce made me think it was cooked. The potatoes were also undercooked and grainy. The paneer was actually almost devoid of texture, which was strange considering I'm usually a fan of the smooth and creamy texture.

I was wandering the streets of Berkeley and looking for some grub. I stopped outside to read the menu and a customer came out, interrupting his own meal, just to tell me how great the food is and that I should eat here. He was SO right! I had the lunch sized chicken curry with naan and salad. The platter was HUGE and came with tons of naan, a nice sized bowl of curry, rice, and garbanzo beans. It was extremely flavourful - I asked for extra spicy and they did not disappoint. I also had a beer called Real Gold, from Nepal, which honestly might be the best beer I've had. It has a honey taste to it - I want to find it somewhere to buy! Service was great, and the server even took my phone to charge it up while I was eating, since I had been traveling all day. I will go back here when I visit Berkeley again.

When I think of this place, the one thing that comes in mind is their naan. Their garlic naan is SOOOO good! Also, we tried this other bread (I forget the name) that comes out puffy and goes great with curry. YUM. We also tried their fried chicken appetizer which tasted like chicken nuggets. Nothing special except for their dipping sauces. Should I have asked for sweet&sour instead?

The best himalyan restaurant in Berekeley...hands down. Absolutely love it. Service is pretty good as well. do not get the nepali lemonade though - so nasty (they put cumin in it). Great Momos - this is what himalayan food is all about!

Chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. So good. 4 stars instead of 5 because once in a while the masala is really watery. I even went back to ask them about it and a waiter told me that it was supposed to be like that. At that point I ate the masala about 15 times so I'm pretty sure I knew what it was supposed to look like.

I was pretty impressed with this place when I walked in. The setting and environment is really nice. In addition, my friend quickly noted, that it felt muuuch cleaner than House of Curries and Naan N Curry near UC Berkeley campus. Immediately after walking in and engulfing yourself in the savory spices, you feel relaxed in the dimmed light and candlelit tables. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly and personable. I ordered a ~$7 chicken vindaloo (of course...) with plain naan ($1.25). They give you the option of choosing your level of spiciness: mild, medium, spicy, or extra spicy. I was suggested spicy by the waitress and went with it. It wasn't spicy. Not. At. All. If they call spicy spicy, I wonder what the hell mild tastes like--or medium for that matter! This "spicy" level was NOTHING! Anyway, enough on my spiciness rant. The naan here is incredible! Best naan I've had in the Bay Area. Before, I didn't know what good naan tastes like, but now I do! It seems they buttered the top or glazed it....whatever they did to it, it was delicious. The chicken vindaloo was very tasty and filling, however, it wasn't a tad bit spicy :( I have to mention that they do not hold back on the chicken...at all! I'm usually not quite full after eating at Biryani House, House of Curries, or any other Indian restaurant in Berkeley, but with Mount Everest Restaurant giving so much chicken, I was pretty damn satisfied. The taste was fine despite the lack of spiciness to it. Lots of delicious (dark!) meat in combination with tasty spices warrants 4 stars! A quick comparison with Biryani: Mount Everest has more chicken and better naan, while Biryani has better tasting vindaloo and cheaper dishes. Man, this is tough...but I think Biryani House may have been dethroned as my favorite Indian restaurant in Berkeley! This is gonna be very difficult for me to rank but here it goes... LIST UPDATED 7/30/2011 1. Taste of the Himalayas 2. Biryani (tied...maybe slight edge due to taste and cost) 2. Mount Everest Restaurant (tied) 4. Chaat Cafe 5. Vik's Chaat 6. Naan N Curry 7. House of Curries (on Durant)

We went here for our son's graduation dinner. The food was delicious. the rack of lamb had a different spice than usual and a good deal for the price, but it was cut into 4 chops. We had a party of 9 and had a diverse selection. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The naan were yummy! We got our appetizers fairly fast, but the entrees were delivered over time, so the first person served was waiting over 10 minutes for the last person to be served and to begin eating. The wine list was lacking. The two wines we wanted to try were not in stock and the one we got was only so-so. Also, the dessert menu is very sparse - only 2 items. Would like to see a better selection of wines and desserts. But overall, the food made it all worth it!

I had the Paneer Tiki Masala. I guess I'm not familiar with Indian cheese so I wasn't crazy about the pieces of cheese. It tasted more like tofu, and the texture was a similar consistency to tofu too. However, the creamy soup/sauce was delicious!! Dipped it in Garlic Naan and killed every last bit :) The small dish was 8.99 and garlic naan was 2.50 for 4 pieces. Not the cheapest place, but you're definitely getting good quality food. I rather pay for quality over quantity anyways.

I was really happy to find this place during Memorial Day weekend, since most places were closed. The location is right on Telegraph, but kind of tucked away from the buzz of campus. The decor on the inside is very modern-ethnic, and the kitchen is visible from the seats - which I think always gives a pretty nice touch to the atmosphere. The food is surprisingly very good - for an Indian place that is primarily run by non-Indians. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala, which, compared to House of Curries, Na'an and Curry, and Indian Flavors Express, is sooo much better. The sauce is just so creamy, spicy, flavorful and addictive that you just can't stop dipping your na'an and scooping up all that deliciousness. The na'ans are pretty good as well. The garlic na'an was my favorite - so soft, warm and herby. There was also a na'an infused with coconut, pine nuts and mango that was very delicious - a nice blend of sweet and savory that worked well with the creamy dishes. The matter paneer is my favorite of the vegetarian dishes - it has green peas, homemade cheese cooked in a spicy cream sauce. Every bite gives you a journey of different flavors. The lamb curry is pretty good, but a bit strong for my taste. If you like lamb, then this is the dish for you. Finally, the mango lassi is a pretty nice palette cleanser that I would recommend getting it. Definitely a place to check out! A nice break from all the food in Asian Ghetto.

  • Kristy K.

I've been wanting to go here to a while and wasn't disappointed by the food or service. The mango lassi was pretty standard like other Indian restaurants. The himalayan fried chicken was pretty good and different from what I usually eat at Indian places. The chicken was juicy but was disappointed in its saltiness. The Palak Paneer was good. A mix of spinach, herbs and cheese. Not a common dish I would order, but definitely will order this again. The Paneer Tikka Masala was my favorite dish. I loved to eat this with the naan and the sauce was so creamy! We ordered it medium, so it wasn't too spicy. I think I'll order it Spicy the next time I go. They served the warm version of gulag jamen. It was a good way to end our meal and wasn't too sweet.

This is my favorite Indian food spot - why? They have a good chicken tikka masala - which I always get :) but most importantly an exceptional customer service, and a very nice atmosphere. I went there once on a cold day, and asked to change our window seat to something else. The lady who served us brought out a heater and put it next to us. That's the customer service they provide - always happy to come here. One tip: I tried the lunch plate - this is a smaller portion of your meal with a salad and rice, so be aware of that. I prefer the regular size.

I love getting chicken tikka masala and naan from this place... Best curry ever whoo! They have different kinds of naan, and I sometimes get rice instead of naan. Anyways, really great Indian food place.

Out of all the places around Berkeley campus, Mt Everest is probably the best place to get Indian food if you start having any cravings. It is one of the few sit down Indian food places that is very clean and quiet. Every time I have come here I was always seated right away and immediately brought water. The servers are all very attentive and take the time to explain the menu to you if are confused. The portions they give are very filling for a good price. Recommend: The naan: I have had the plain naan and the garlic naan and they are both amazing. The garlic one is definitely worth getting. It is fluffy with a slight crunch on the inside. There is a slight garlic taste that is not overwhelming. The chicken tikka marsala: really rich creamy sauce and large chunks of chicken. The sauce is very well flavored and perfectly spiced. It goes great with the naan. There are three spicy levels. I always get the medium spicy and while I can take heat, near the end I was definitely working up a little bit of a sweat. The lamb wrap: I really great, marinated lamb wrapped in naan. The lamb is very tender and the wrap has some tomato and onions in it that compliment the lamb very well. The lamb saag: The lamb is super flavorful. I wish they gave more lamb with the spinach, and the spinach was cooked to an almost mush. I am not sure if it was suppose to be like that but I wish they didn't cook it as much. They offer a lunch menu too. The prices are great and they give you so much food. I got the lunch special chicken tikka marsala and it came with naan, rice, salad, and garbanzo beans. It is more than enough food to get you full. I have also had the lamb wrap lunch special. It does not come with any of the sides but it is a much larger portion of food which makes up for the lack of sides. Overall I really enjoy coming here to get lunch with a friend because of the nice atmosphere and good food. It is casual and the waiters do not rush you so you can sit and talk and not feel like you are being pushed to leave. Just a warning though, this place (like most places) smells pretty strongly of spices so it will get infused into your clothes so do not come here if you are planning to go somewhere else immediately after.

I've been in berkeley for a while now and haven't found the food good, at all (compared to SoCal). There is a Himilayan restaurant in Big Bear that I love and this beats that. I'm so glad this place is around the corner. I don't know what the other reviewers have said and since the avg rating is less than five, I don't wed to know. It's great

Soo Good!!!! Thank you restaurant.com for having a deal getting me to come here!!! We went for a girls night and shared everything so naturally over ordered. We all agreed that we will be returning. Samosa Chaat- kinda an open faces samosa, fabulous flavor and would get again! Papad- honestly it was kinda burnt but a good compliment to the samosa chaat for the non burnt parts chicken tikka masala- good, very creamy, we got mild and would spice it up next time lamb daal- awesome, will get again! Mount Everest Sizzling Platter- it was really good with our other dishes but for a single order I would go with something more creamy to compliment the naan :) but the salmon was great and I really enjoyed the mix of the meat garlic and regular naan- fabulous!!!

Great service! Took my girlfriend here for her Indian craving. She chose the Chicken tikka masala which is a must order for first timers and is probably one of the best I've ever had! I failed and got the lamb vindaloo.. Not. So. Good. :(

I went here with with y mom and she adores this place. I was apprehensive bc indian food is always really good going in but really bad coming out...if u know what i mean. This place was very filling and spicy but not greasy. I am happy to say it passed the 12 hour test. Get the butter chicken and garlic naan with the yogurt dipping sauce.

I like this place, but the wait is soooooo long. Atmosphere: It's nice for dinner. The lighting inside is super dim but there are a good number of tables. It use to be a place where you order up front but now it's a full-blown sit down restaurant. Food: I REALLY like their Palak Aloo (Potatoes and Spinach). It has a lot of flavor to it (I get mild). My friend got the Chicken Karma, which was also really good, but on the creamy side so it feels heavier the more you eat it. The naan isn't as good as other places I've had - it gets kind of tough. Prices aren't bad at all - about $6-8 a plate. Service: They're friendly, but they're REALLY SLOW. We came in at 8 and probably didn't get our food until about 8:50. Also, we had ordered 3 naans and only two came out, and then we had to wait almost another ten minutes for the other one. Overall: I'd suggest calling in and taking things to go. It works better that way.

Jus as good as when I had it to go. The tika masala is to die for! The tandoori is ok but the tika masala makes up for it! Okay, I originally gave this place a 4 but I have to give it a 5. Why? Because I've been 24 hours since I had the tikka masala and I am craving it badly. That's a sign a restaurant deserves a 5.

Flavors of India on College still has to be my favorite, but Mount Everest is a solid choice. I always get the chicken chow mein here because my friends really like that dish, and it's always solid. And it's good. I've tried 4/5 ranges of their spiciness level. Spicy.. is pretty damn spicy. But it has an awesome kick to it that will fix up your sinuses in no time. I've tried the other typical curry dishes too, and even though it is most definitely better than the simple House of Curries or the other horrid places that are all around Berkeley, it still isn't that awesome. Service however is very solid, and the ambience is pretty cool. But then again, it's not too hard to deviate far from the average ambience of Berkeley restaurants.

I used to live on Parker and went to Mount Everest constantly. The staff is friendly and the vibe is relaxed and efficient. The blend of flavors in their Herbal soup is so delicate, and extremely healthy. If you're ever feeling weak or tired, go to Mount Everest and order a bowl--it will super-charge you! I've tried at least a dozen of their dishes and never been disappointed. Highly recommended.

The food quality has gone down and the chicken tikka masala has hardly any chicken in it. The tikka masala was really bland and buttery and the samosas weren't as good as I remember either. They offered this free almond/coconut ice cream but it was a stale piece of shave iced and it was too hard to eat and not good. I don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon.

This place is fine, and maybe I'm just not nuanced enough to appreciate it, but I believe that there are plenty of better Indian options in Berkeley. I've been here twice now and the most memorable thing about Mount Everest are their bathrooms (they're pretty darn nice!) Last time, I ordered the Navratna Korma and maybe should have been tipped off by the 'kids friendly' smiley face indicator that it wouldn't be particularly flavorful. The only saving grace was that I ordered it medium spicy which was enough to give it some taste. On the advice of many yelp reviews I ordered garlic naan which was delightful and savory. Kudos to the staff when we definitely overstayed our welcome and were only very subtly made aware of this. This place was crowded when we came and I'm disappointed the food wasn't better. If I ever end up here again I'll try to avoid dishes with smiley faces and update my review. Until then I'd rather go somewhere else for Indian food unless I come down with a very serious craving for garlic naan.

I was intrigued by the Nepali variation on Indian food. I am always a fan of Indian, but have a hard time finding restaurants here that rival the Indian that can be found in London. This was no exception. The food was good enough. The papadam was crisp, but with miniscule portions of dip. We tried the regular and cherry/cranberry naan, both of which were good. Our main dishes were on the bland side, and the rice was a bit wetter than I like my basmati. The decor was where I experienced major disappointment, and it may have influenced my perception of the food. Ethnic restaurants are in a great position to showcase their culture and I felt the opportunity was not being capitalized on. The walls are incompletely painted, drawing attention to electrical fixtures and unfinished trim. Pictures were oddly distributed, and overall there was a shabby impression. Overall, I don't think I'd go back again, there are so many other great restaurants around.

My boyfriend lives down the street from Mount Everest Restaurant, so of course when I visit I can't stop thinking about getting some curry. Their paneer tikka masala is amazing--definitely my go-to dish. With a side of onion or garlic naan and basmati rice? Perfection. I almost feel bad for always ordering the same meal, because I know I'm missing out on other delicious dishes, but I found my one true love in their tikka masala.

Try the Garlick Soup, Chicken Momo & Goat Curry. A different take on Indian food. A must try.

The Lamb Curry I got here was fairly bland and underwhelming. I never thought Indian food could be flavorless but hey you learn something new every day. Would not recommend, will not return.

I liked the atmosphere (lots of candles). Service was great. All dishes were served fresh and hot. Chicken Momo was delicious, soft and jucy. Garlic Naan was fluffy and fravorful. Shrimp curry was surperb. We got Groupon deal here, but this is one of the place where I want to go back even without deals.

Honestly the best Indian food i've had in Berkeley, and other places. I think it's best to come here for their lunch specials. I always get the Chicken Tikka Masala (extra spicy) and its amazing. Highly recommended and the service is good too.

I was a little disappointed. The service was good. Everyone was friendly and inviting. The decor was fine (not that I care about stuff like that, really). But I was jonesin' for some Tikka Masala and after reading the reviews, I thought this place would be sweet. But no. No flavor. None. Zip. Zero. Tasted vaguely like Indian food. But none of the flavor. Very bland. Asked for spicy. Got extremely mild. Naan (garlic) was bland as well. Serving/portion size was crazy small, too. The bowl of curry I got was maybe the diameter of a beer mug and just big enough for THREE 1-inch cubes of chicken in it. This would work fine as an appetizer or snack. But as a meal? Hell-to-the-hell-no. I wouldn't go back. My search for good Indian food in the area is still on.

Everything on the monthly organic specials page looked so great that we just got them all -- and we weren't disappointed! The meal was perfect from start to finish. The service was great too. Strange, because it was deserted. I very highly recommend the Babari Bheda. Everything was quite tasty but that really stole the show.

First off, it has a great ambiance. It's clean and quiet - great for a date! When I was there, I had the Samosa Chaat and Aloo Tikki, both of which are priced well, tasted delicious, and were filling. I had the Chicken Coconut, which was amazing if you like sweet curry over a spicy/savory curry. The portions look small, but it's very filling. I ordered Garlic Naan and Honey Naan with it. The Honey Naan was definitely my favorite - it went well with the Chicken Coconut and was absolutely delicious. I'm pretty sure I've ever seen it on the menu at any other Indian restaurants, so kudos to Mt. Everest. I've eaten my fair share of Indian cuisine, but I definitely love Mt. Everest and hopefully will be back in the future.

Came here on a Sunday evening after a beautiful day in the city. With several older couples adorably sharing dinner, this is definitely a great date spot. Intimate and fancy (but not overbearing) decor. Probably ok to put on some nicer pants. We started with two mango lassi - how could you not? ($3 each) They were smooth and well-blended, without the plain-yogurt tart that tends to accompany those skimpy on the mango. We ordered Navratna Korma ($8) and and Dal Bhat Tarkari ($12 for a full dinner entree), along with, as always, extra naan ($1.25 for plain). Even with my naan-vacuum boyfriend, we were still able to take some home. Nothing was too spicy, and thank god, it was all thoroughly cooked. Prices were pretty standard for Berkeley (a little high for kids from Fremont), but considering the nice ambiance and excellent service it's a great deal. If we ever find ourselves again meandering Telegraph with a hankering for Nepali food, we know where we'll be.

Yum yum yum! I just had chicken tikka masala with naan from Mount Everest, and I have to say, it was pretty delicious. You have to order rice separately, which may be a downside for some. The interior is really cute and there's plenty of street parking nearby. I can't wait to try their other dishes!

I felt like having Indian food the other night and decided to order from Mount Everest since I saw on yelp that they delivered. I ordered the following: Navratna Korma - not bad Mattar Paneer -delicious gravy (a bit salty)! But only had exactly 4 small pieces of paneer in it! Garlic Naan - great! Paneer Naan - good texture, but I couldn't see nor taste any paneer Gulab Jamun - pretty good Overall, the food was good, but they must have been running low on paneer. I would have given this place 3 stars for the food, but they also took a long time to deliver. I was told it would take 45 - 60 minutes, but I ended up getting the food an hour and 15 minutes after I placed the order. Perhaps they were having an off night? I'll try them again, but based on this experience, they get 2 stars.

Yesterday I truly realized that bamboo, when prepared right, has a distinct flavor. Their monthly special Nepalese lentil stew tasted exactly like only one thing I've ever had before: Chinese lamb snail noodle soup! Now there was no snail and no lamb in this delicious stew - it was definitely the bamboo. Mount Everest, however you are preparing your bamboo that is different from everyone else except that one Chinese place, please carry on; it is so unique and tasty. And your plump black-eyed peas and spicy brown sauce don't hurt the dish either. Honestly, everything here was great. The best Nepalese I've had by far, and I lived in Boulder, CO - Nepalese food central - for eight years. The dal bhat tarkari was like a North Indian version of thali - lots of little plates and bowls with different stews and curries and puddings in them. The lamb curry had falling-apart, tender, deep burgundy-brown meat that was unmistakably lamb, not mystery meat as it so often is in curry. Everything on the platter was different. We were told it was too small for four people to share, but thumbed our noses at that rule and shared anyway. Chicken momos, looking just like XLB with their cute twirled tops, carried their spicy orange sauce with aplomb. I ordered worst with the malai kofta, which really was silly of me since it's an Indian dish. Nothing was wrong with it, but it had no spice to it and was immediately forgotten on my quest for everything else. Except maybe that weird pink shredded coconut naan... what was up with that? All the sweet I needed was the foamy guava juice. I'd be back in a heartbeat were I not just passing through.

My culinary soulmate, Sara P., is one of the most awesome people I know. Who else would go see Winnie the Pooh in theaters with me? Who else would happily go to the East Bay for dinner with me? Armed with a Groupon, we headed to Mount Everest on a Tuesday night for some good ol' Nepalese food. Upon arriving, we decided that we'd split the garlic naan and Basmati rice. Sara ordered a spicy chicken dish, and I originally wanted the goat curry but they were out of it. So I had no choice but to go for the koobideh kebabs, which were freaking juicy and delicious with the basmati rice (we had to order this separately). Totally loved everything. The restaurant itself helped by being clean, relatively spacious, and simply but nicely decorated. Service was pretty good, and the dishes are all pretty reasonably priced. Oh, and did I mention that parking is pretty easy on the side streets? Yeah, it is.

Best Himalayan restaurant I've been to so far in the Bay Area. Indian food is usually greasy, but this place is perfect. The tandoori salmon and chicken is EXCELLENT--very moist and delicious, well cooked. The food is flavorful and not too spicy and not bland. The copper bowls they serve the food in are very cute and fit the cuisine well. Linen napkins, ceramic plates. The portions are very generous--and no buffet. The menu is large and encompasses lots of Indian and Himalayan favorites. I've been coming here for two decades and it's always been great. It's also always packed during lunch and dinner, even on Monday nights! Bring a date, or bring your family; go causal or go dressed up.

Very good! Had delivery via their online ordering system. Order arrived with some dishes mouth searingly hot and all at least warm. Good job! Ordered: - Mount Everest Herbal Soup Very tasty and good. garlic was cooked to a nutty flavor - no harsh tastes and lots of comfort. - Chicken Momo Standard but good. Dumpling itself was spiced so the dipping sauce (which was also quite good) was a complement, not a necessity. - Dal Bhat Tarkari Very tasty but got 3 different containers for it with no explanation - maybe the dish is a platter but the online menu doesn't make it clear. All 3 containers were very good. - Khasi Ko Msu A really outstanding goat stew with bone-in pieces (for better flavor). The curry/sauce used in this dish far outshone the others in terms of flavor profile and brightness. Really good and a standout dish. Yum. - 2 orders of garlic naan and 1 order of honey naan Both excellent. - and got a free order of regular naan and a free order of Aloo Tikki as a bonus Both also quite good. Given the taste and quality of the delivered food, I will arrange a visit soon for a sit-down meal. One of the best blind-order delivery experiences I've ever had.

Lamb Vindaloo was not too spicy, Chicken Karahi was very flavorful, Garlic Naan was thin, garlicky, and served warm. All fed two hungry girls fully for $23! The prices are reasonable and the food is excellent if you require an Indian fix.

My search for curry in my beloved Bay Area continues and I've always wanted to explore the East Bay beyond Vik's Chaat. After scrutinizing various options I finally turned over this evening's culinary experience to my fellow Yelpers and ventured in with both canine teeth set to Mount Everest Restaurant and I was well pleased. The vegetable samosa were lovely although a bit too oily for my taste but the potato, pea and spices filling made up much ground. And then on to aloo ghobi and a truly satisfying lamb vindaloo served with a side of pilau rice...mmmmm. Remember, even Santa needs a curry.

I am in love with this place. Service-Excellent, we did not have to ask for anything, servers were very attentive, knowledgeable, warm and humourous. Food- The menu had icons denoting "child favourites" "vegan" and "spicy", w/ accurate descriptions. I ordered the Paneer Tiki Masala and the Daal Tadka-flavourful, spicy, deliciousness. Best lentils I have ever had. The aroma and presentation was breath taking. They packed our to-go boxes, I really appreciate when that is done for me. Ambiance-relaxed, beautiful Himalayan music (not overbearing or intrusive), cozy. I appreciated the high ceilings, lighting and colour scheme.

We've been here a couple of times now - the first time was a little better than the most recent, as the food seemed a little smaller this time. However, we really enjoy it here, and will be back. Good food, and good service.

My One Word: Ehhhh. Fact #1: The garlic naan was too heavy, the bottom was burnt, and not crispy. Just a disaster. Fact #2: The chicken tikka masala was really tough to chew. The sauce was great and there were a lot of tough chicken in the tin bowl it was served in. Fact #3: Really cute place for a date, it is dark and romantic.

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend when we had a restaurant.com deal - super worth it! The ambiance is really nice and calming - even the servers are always really attentive but never in a rush. It made me feel really relaxed, especially as a stressed-out student. The curry was super good and the mango lassi was as well. I thought the garlic naan was probably the best naan they had. The selection is soooo expansive and everything is very affordable. I would definitely come back!

Food was 3 stars, but in a word - bland. Indian food is usually bursting with flavor. I was dusappointed here. The best thing was pretty good vegetable pakoras, served with tamarind chutney were delicious and crunchy, the samosas were a little bland but nice texture of flaky crust and savory potato filling inside. Our thali style plates were a little disapointing with just a tiny sample size bowl of the entree. Had the lamb korma, it was again a bit bland, and there were maybe 3 whole bites of lamb in my bowl. The saag paneer, again bland, and tasted like reheated leftovers. Good thing there are many other Indian restaurants.

Not quite a five star, but friendly, helpful staff make-up for any short comings~ Food: yum. Took awhile to find the right level of spicy for me (hint don't go extra spicey unless you have an iron stomach!) Location is funky but nice ambiance over all for this area...

3.5 stars, but I'll round it up to 4 stars since the food was SOOO good! My party and I came in with a restaurant.com coupon so we ordered a lot of food. Everything was delicious! I can't be as excited on the service, but more on that later. You must order the VEGGIE CHOW MIEN! I was surprised how great it was. I was expecting something very similar to Chinese Chow Mien, but BOY! was I wrong! First off, the noddles they use for the chow mien was spaghetti, the kind you would find in Italian restaurants. And, the best part was that they used a tomato based sauce instead of the typical soy sauce or garlic based one. Very different from any Chow Mien I've tried. The noodles didn't stick together because each strand was covered in a light mixture of the tomato sauce and a splash of oil (I can't quite but my finger on it, but it's not olive, corn, coconut, soybean, etc. oil). The noodles aren't heavy like Italian pasta, but at the same time, they're very filling. This was possibly the best dish out of the four that we ordered. CHICKEN VINDALOO. The boyfriend really enjoyed this one, but I think it needed to be spicier. We went for a "Medium" on the Vindaloo and I barely tasted any spice. Go for "Spicy" if you like spicy Indian food like I do. The chicken was really nice and tender though--you can tell it was quality meat. LAMB CURRY. This was not bad, but not great--partially because I felt that the lamb was a bit too tough for my liking. PANEER TIKKA MASALA. The tikka masala here was much creamier and less tomato-y than what I'm use to. Very hearty and thick. The paneer on the other hand? Sigh. A disappointment. I think we should have gone with a chicken or lamb tikka masala instead. The paneer looked and tasted too much like tofu, meaning cubed and bland. No flavor at all. GARLIC NAAN. YUM! It was also glazed in butter..garlic and butter..what a great combination! We also ordered two bowls of rice to eat with the curry. They came in large bowls, and I think one bowl is enough to share between two people. Pieces of flaxseed were in the rice so be careful if you have an allergy or don't want seeds stuck between your teeth. Now, service. WOW. They are SLOOooooOOOOW! We had to wait over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. At one period, at possibly the 20 minute mark, we looked around, and no one, no table had food. Everyone was waiting to be served. Also, when we asked for our food to go, the waiter placed the rice and curry in one box. BIG mistake. The rice will mix with the curry and become soggy. Needless to say, we threw about the mixture when we got home. Sad. I really wanted to eat our leftovers. Overall, Mt. Everest has AMAZING food. It's def. worth the wait. I'll come by again!

Tasty food at reasonable prices - especially if you bring a restaurant.com gift certificate with you! It's nice that you can specify how spicy you'd like the dishes to be... mild, medium, spicy, or very spicy. Definitely try the garlic naan - FYI, one order comes with only 4 pieces, so order enough to share! Chicken tikka masala - didn't come with very much chicken, but the flavor was good & a bit on the tangy side. Palak paneer (spinach + cheese cubes) - loved it!

  • Ann L. F.

Delish! If you love this kind of food this is the place. The korma is very good--thicker and richer than most restaurants--and the tiki masala is a delight. The naan is very tasty, the lassis are excellent (the salty one, though, is really salty!) and overall, everything is quite good, with portions that are on the money (the guy below me who complained they don't give you enough is unreal. What does he want, a whole yeti?) and excellent desserts (rice pudding or gulab jauman). My friend had a tandoori dish and reported it was very good as well. Good value for the buck. Sad to see it not very crowded when lesser restaurants just up the street closer to Berkeley U were crowded with college kids.

Found a $5 off gift certificate online and the waiter said that I needed a printed version. LAME. BUT, have no fear, he came back and said that he was going to allow it. YES. I mean, 5 dollars is 5 dollars, ya feel me? Started off with the vegetable samosas which were great and I loved how huge they were. Then got the typical chicken tikka masala, basmatic rice & garlic naan. The garlic naan was super tasty. Felt a bit gyped on the chicken though...thought there was way more sauce than chicken. Oh well, couldn't finish the entire meal anyways!

Came here for the first time on my birthday with family. BOMB naan, awesome daal that tasted home cooked, and a very traditional menu with standards like okra, spinach, CTM, paneer, eggplant, etc. I almost question whether it is worth the price because the food tastes so much like what my mom makes, but that is exactly what makes me come back over and over again when I am feeling homesick. Highly recommended.

Between the me and the girls, we had: chicken momos, chicken daal, lamb vindaloo, malai kofta, garlic naan, honey naan, and rice We had a tiny little bowl of soup too. The chicken momo was good, but reminded me of Chinese xiao long bao, which I think are far better because of the broth inside it. Still, I liked the momos. It came with a sauce, but it was just fine without. The chicken daal was good. The lentils were not overcooked and the chicken was pretty tender. The lamb in the lamb vindaloo was not so tender, but it was a good amount of spicy. The malai kofta was my favorite because of the creamy sauce and the incredibly soft potatoes. I loved that one. The garlic naan was not superb and the honey naan was just naan with honey smeared on top. Both were delicious nonetheless. I'd probably come back or even get food to go especially since it's convenient. There's this one guy who works here who's a real talkative fellow. He'll try to convince you if you're standing outside and he'll try to display his talent at naming whatever you ordered. Overall, the staff is friendly. Service is a bit slow. It took a long time for a chai to get to our table and even longer for the food to arrive. We thought the portions were really small, but we were satisfied in the end and it wasn't all to expensive or anything.

Without a doubt this is the best delivery food you can find in Berkeley. Each time I order from them I am not disappointed in the awesome quality of their food. I don't think I have ever gotten delivery and truly felt that it was on par with the quality of the food you would receive in the restaurant. In particular my favorite dishes are the Fish Vindaloo and the Lamb Wrap. One important note for those wishing to get delivery: Make it spicy! For some reason there really isn't that much sauce if you don't, and this place does spicy right!

Really good food! The spinach naan was great and the fish curry and the chicken tikka masala were also really good. The veg momos are very tasty too. Staff was good but they took a bit too long to give us the check. Overall great place to eat.

I have to say, this place trumps Taste of the Himalayas. Came here with a half-off deal and split the following: the sizzling mixed meat platter (tandoori cooked chicken wing, salmon, 2 prawns, lamb), garlic naan, mango lassi, and mixed momo. Mixed momo: delicious! The tomato yogurt spice dipping sauce it came with was delectable. Juicy, tasty. Mango lassi: normally good, as any other place. Tandoori platter: served crackling hot. Delicious, tender chicken. Slightly tough lamb, yummy sausagey thing, soft and juicy salmon. Lots lots of meat. Garlic naan: huge! Yum! Food is great here. Service, slightly slow, but at a decent pace. Good for a leisurely meal, but not if you're in a rush. Open, spacious. Was yummy before it became Mt Everest, yummy even now! Recommended, for sure. They also have lunch specials for around $7 with naan, rice, entree, and...maybe something else.

Excellent! Had the chicken momos, the lamb vindaloo, and the chicken pakora, which I had before but was very tasty. The rice was cooked well, the naan was browned but also fluffy.... Really, Really good. Everyone should go here.

Meat was really dry like it had been sitting in a warmer for hours. The paneer was not good and the vindaloo was about as spicy as Pizza Hut pizza sauce. All in all it was a bad meal and we were very very disappointed.

This is, literally, the best place you can go to get Indian food in Berkeley and I'm sad I've only just discovered this place with only a year left at Cal. My boyfriend and I had gone to this restaurant twice before, and we were happy with the entrees we got. But the third time...I just HAD to write a review because I don't want anyone missing out on good Indian/Nepalese food! We started out first with the Chicken Pakora, which was a surprise to me that the pieces of chicken were juicy and flavorful! The appetizer came with two dishes, I'm not sure what was in each (one red, one green) but they added a nice flavor to it. For once, I wasn't disappointed with dry bits of bland chicken that I've tasted at so many other restaurants around Berkeley. For entrees, we ended up ordering: the Lamb Tikka Masala, Chicken Kalahi, and the Malai Kofta with sides of rice and garlic naan. This place...was phenomenal. I was hesitant on eating the lamb tikka masala because I already wasn't a fan of the dry, cubed pieces of lamb I have had in other dishes in the past at various Indian restaurants. However, this lamb was amazing--soft and tender, and so easy to bite into and enjoy. Combined with the curry sauces in this dish with the rice--I was already satisfied. But no! The malai kofta, a mix of cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, and a few other things was equally as good--creamy and filled with flavor. My boyfriend and I ordered the lamb and chicken dishes as "spicy" and the chicken kalahi definitely had a little more kick to it than the lamb but I wasn't complaining! The chicken, again, was not dry, and mixed with the bell peppers and onions, was great. The service here also is amazing! My boyfriend and I love this place because of the amazing hospitality by the whole staff. Definitely come here if you are looking for Indian food that will not disappoint.

The first time I came here was with my friend and her parents...HAHAHA awkwardly romantic for an Indian restaurant. However, out of all the Indian places I've tried in Berkeley (HoC, IFE, Naan & Curry), this one is my favorite!! (I have yet to try Viks Chaat) The portions are smaller than the other restaurants I believe, but I just feel like the presentation of the food and the ambiance here = more clean and classy. I love Aloo Gobi too!! (Cauliflower+Potatoes in some spicy yummy sauce ftw)

I had stuffed myself with carbs earlier in the day so I just ordered the Makhmali Naan (naan stuffed with coconut, cashews, raisin, and cherry--could only taste the coconut but still good). The five stars is based off their superb service! Our water glasses were constantly filled, the servers made sure we were taken care of without being obtrusive, and didn't give us even an ounce of attitude when it took us a while to pay. Definitely coming back to try some actual food. I'm also intrigued by their honey naan.

Quality: 5/6 Service: 5/5 Value: 3/4 Total: 13/15 = 4/5 I am *SO* glad to have a good Indian Restaurant at this location again. Tandoor Kitchen had been going downhill, but now Mount Everest is taking over! The curries were delicious, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

So delicious, I'm currently wanting some Chicken Mo Mo as I type this review. The first time I had this I randomly ordered it from seamless. I wasn't quite sure what I was in the mood for, but as soon as I took my first bite, I KNEW it was this! The customer service isn't that great, a few times I ordered here they couldn't seem to find my house and then don't call to confirm whether I'm home ... that's annoying! I've never actually gone to the restaurant, I always do delivery.

God bless this place, seriously. I haven't had Indian food for the longest time and when I saw this place during my day trip to Berkeley I knew I had to have it. Tika Masala is a standard dish and this restaurant makes it wonderfully. Other dishes like the Lamb Curry and Chicken Vindaloo were also great. Adding it with the Naan just made me extremely happy. Portions were okay. Layout was pleasant. For me personally, I preferred eating with Naan as compared to the rice, but that's just me. Good restaurant, really.

Mostly lndian fare with a small Nepalese offering. No Nepalese lamb dishes though which is a bit disappointing. They do have goat but I like lamb substituted in the goat dishes. Their Kukhuro Ko Sekuwa was excellent. The choilla was good but I've had better. The momo was good and what I would expect from nepalese mono. A pretty solid place.

First Impressions The feel of the restaurant is definitely enjoyable and the waiters were really nice too! I ate the spicy version of the chicken chow mein because this is what my friends recommended to me. I definitely enjoyed my meal but if you're not a huge fan of cilantro I would recommend going with a different dish. Another perk of this dish was the amount of food! I felt like the noodles were never going to end. The Naan here is also pretty good. The extra dollar for the garlic version is definitely worth it. Conclusion - Definitely coming back here to try out the other dishes.

Ordered Chicken Vindalou and Lamp Masala....both were very good even I asked for the Masala to be spicy and it was not.Samosa were good, little bit to oily for me.My big complain is about the Nan.Ordered regular one and it tasted as a pancake! It was cold and very thick.Orderd for pick up and was plesantly surprise by the employees and restaurant atmosphere!

So me and six friends came here on a Friday night and ordered family style. We had 3 orders of garlic naan, 2 orders of regular naan, bhaingan (eggplant), one of the lamb curries, and three orders of chicken tikka masala. We were super hungry, but absolutely certain that it was going to be too much food. To our surprise, we housed all of it. Everything was really flavorful and the eggplant especially was really fresh! Also some of the best naan I've had in the area. My only gripe is that the portions were smaller than I had anticipated, which is why ended up ordering so much (originally we had ordered less). But I guess that much can be overlooked. Given the prices and the quality, it was really a minor fault. We loved it and we are definitely going back!

So, I like Indian food. I have a lot of Indian food. And this is among the best, especially in the price range. I came here with my mom, dad and aunt and we ate. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. Like, My stomach was pulling at the seams I was so full. And it was all amazing. I got a Bhindi Bhaji, which is eggplant+ yummy things, and it was my favorite. My aunt go the fish curry, which was good, but because I'm not a fish fan, it wasn't at the top of my list. But only because of my preferences. My mom got a Lamb Tandoori which was amazing and my dad got some sort of chicken dish that was green... (I just have no idea what it was called) It was all amazing, we (my mom, dad and I) are definitely planning on coming back.

Came in on a groupon deal: $15 for Two-Course Indian and Nepali Dinner for Two (Up to $33.97 Value).I already had an idea about the food since I had been here before. I got my usual dish which was a spicy chicken tikka masala with a tall Taj Mahal to wash it down. The servers are friendly and great with kids. My little one was walking around jumping on their couch. This restaurant is great to bring families.

The best Indian/Himalayan cuisine in the bay area. Unique flavors, proper spice levels, not greasy/oily as can happen with this sort of cuisine. Fair prices and fast delivery as well. Love it!

It's as good as it get's for food from the Indian sub continent. Servers wear a smile, the food looks as delicious as it tastes. The prices suit a college town. It's fantastic. We will have enjoyed the restaurant's hospitality for almost six years, when our youngest graduates this year. If you have a yearning for authentic Indian food, this is the right choice.

Special of organic lentils and taro was pretty bland, the rest was good to fine/okay . Props for having organic chicken but when I asked if they used organic dairy they said no.

i just ordered some take out from here and i really liked it. first of all know it's a $25 minimum. the person who took my order was courteous and delivery was prompt. i had the lamb tika masala and it was delicious; the sauce was tangy and creamy and the lamb was nice and tender. the herbal soup was good but a bit bland. the black dahl had some kind of buttery sauce w/ a slight lemon flavor. it was nice and kind of different. so, all and all it was good. it was enough food for dinner and lunch (for 1), which is nice. that being said it seems like the portions were a little small. that's totally subjective though. oooooh, and i almost forgot; i couldn't access their menu from their website so i googled it and got the menu from some random online menu site.

I came to Mount Everest with a group of my girlfriends last Friday. We arrived around 6 pm and there was no problem getting a table for 5. We were all super excited to try this place, I mean we had been talking about it since Monday of that week.... FOOD: All of the dishes that we ordered were absolutely amazing!! Two girl started withe vegetable samosamas and one said that they her favorite part of the meal. The samosa order only came with two, but they were huge and the sauces that came with them were delicious. We also order garlic naan and plan naan, both super yummy and fresh! Highly recommend for dipping purposes! The main dishes we had included chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, and daal. Let me tell you, all full of flavor!! I dipped my naan into everybody e;see dishes besides my own and they all tasted so scrumptious. I was really surprised by how yummy the daal was...I had never had it before and I will definitely be ordering that again!! The only downside is that nothing comes with your order to soak up the liquid uness you order naan. Complimentary naan or a side of rice should be included in the price, not an extra cost. ENVIRONMENT: The overall environment was very dark and romantic in a way. Very little lighting with the only light being candles at the tables. I enjoyed it and I had no problem seeing the menu or anything. It took a bit long to get our menus, but the food came out very quickly and our water was frequently replenished. You can see where the food comes out of the kitchen and it my friends and I were constantly guessing if the dish on the counter was ours. Bathroom was very clean. Overall, this place was super great! I really recommend this restaurant to anybody who loves a good Indian dinner. It is fairly reasonably priced and if you find a Groupon, it's even less expensive. Rating: 3.8

The only reason I am giving 4 star to this restaurant is because of its food. The service was horrible when I went to this place. We had to to wait 30-40 Min's to get seated were as we were said it would be 15 Min's, and the food took almost and hour to get to the table. But apart from the service issue food was really good. It is a good place just make sure you have enough time when you plan to eat here.

Never, evereverevereverever again. It has been 2 hours & 7 minutes since I placed a delivery order now. Apparently, this restaurant doesn't think they should notify Eat24 or customers when they don't have available drivers for hours. They apparently have refused to refund us, just offered free food. Which is a joke, because I don't think we're getting any.

Flavorful, hot, fresh food. Very attentive, considerate, polite and helpful staff. Clean interior and eating area with good lighting. The lunch specials are filling. I ordered the chicken tikka masala at medium spicy and it was a little less spicy than I expected. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the naan had a delightfully light and chewy texture.

My hunt for Berkeley's best Indian restaurant continues. I order the same meal every time, thus have a good datum for comparison. The creamy cashew sauce tasted more like canned tomato soup, the spice level was weak and the basmati rice was dry and lacked flavor. No complaints from my partner regarding his lamb curry though, and the naans were nice and fluffy. The service was good. Having a beer or wine with our meal would have been nice, but this was not an option. The portion sizes are standard for an Indian restaurant, which meant that we had enough for dinner the next night too. And a curry is always better the next day anyway. The lunch deal looked like a much better option.

My wife and I have been coming here for about a year at least once a month. The experiences where usually great until about 2-3 months ago when service started going down hill and the flavor lacking ,well flavor. It was seriously one of our favorite Indian places but today took the cake of horrible, we got there at about 515 pm, we ordered about 10 minutes later. By 6 pm we still hadn't even received our coffees we asked about them again to another server, by 610 we asked a THIRD time for at least our coffees to be delivered, still no coffees. By 620 still no food or coffee we just took everything to go since we where running late to work (night shift) . Now sitting here tasting the food it's horrible flavor, lack of spices and super watery tomato tasting tikka masala, I just had to say something. Maybe ownership or cooks or staff has changed but it was horrible I couldn't even eat it. Ohh and the garlic naan had NO garlic.

Really nice experience! We had a reservation and came as a group of 10. The table was all set with nice cotton servicing. The service was very friendly, patient and attentive, we got our waters filled all the time. Amoungst our orders were Chicken Tika Massala, Fish Curry and a couple of Naans and everybody was satisfied - athough I want to mention that the portions are not huge. If you are waaay hungry make sure to order a side. We also got a litle treat for the birthday guy and ended up with a very reasonable bill. Will definitely come again!

This place is solid when it comes to Indian food. I really enjoyed and would recommend the momo dumplings, garlic soup (I am a big fan of garlic!), saag paneer, lamb curry, and paneer tikki masala. The chow mein is also pretty tasty. And the naan is top notch! There is actually a big selection of items on the menu, so you have lots of options. The decor and ambience of the place is nice, and the service is pretty good. The waitresses I've had always ask if I want more water, if we need plates to be cleared, etc. Definitely recommend!

I'm thrilled that I've finally had a chance to eat here, but ecstatic over the fact that Mt. Everest lies within a stone's throw to my place. SmoothC and I ordered the samosas smothered with chickpeas and yogurt, the chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, and garlic naan. At the end of the meal, our faces were equally smothered with the flavorful food we enjoyed. The restaurant is large yet cozy, boasting two floors of tables, lovely art, and terrific lighting. Delicious food, generous portions, reasonable prices, lovely lively music playing in the background, and friendly wait staff are just a few reasons I will be returning soon.

we came with a Groupon and we will be back. It is simple and unpretentious and priced for students. All the dishes we had were first class; Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Dahl, plus Naan. The service was friendly and it's a good reason to back to Telegraph. Perfect for a summer's evening in Berkeley

Best Indian Food in berkeley (HANDS DOWN). We ordered the honey naan, sizzling platter, samosas, and aloo gobi, which were all really good. The aloo gobi portion was a bit small, but what the dish lacked in size, it made up for in taste. Really wish I had try this place earlier and not when I am about to graduate. Definitely going to miss this place when I leave Berkeley.

Yum Yum Yum! Mount Everest's food is flavorful, fresh and crafted of good quality ingredients. The menu has ample choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians, and they even have organic meat and produce in some of their dishes. The quality of ingredients and subtlety of the spicing is several steps up from many of the surrounding Indian or Pakistani places---these folks have put real craft into their food offerings, even the rice was amazingly prepared with a dash of spice. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and always smiling. Perfectly prepared food wtih serious flavor and not at all greasy! We got the veggie momos, which were succulent had an amazing dipping sauce, and an organic chicken curry, which was tangy and hearty. Highly recommended---I will definitely be back!

was at a friends house watching football and decided to order a bunch of takeout from this place because it was close by. i was disappointed. samosas were huge, and inside was mostly potato. flavor was average. outside was fried so it wasnt really chewy. chicken in curry wasnt very juicy. curry flavor was weak. beef in curry was pretty tender and had average flavor. this curry was so spicy that only one person even wanted to eat it after trying a bite. lamb was a little mealy and taste was off. maybe it was old. shrimp wasnt very fresh. garlic naan was chewy but garlic flavor was too subtle. grilled chicken was probably the best thing we got and even that was low on flavor. overall, not very satisfying.

Two words: Nariwal Jhinge. If you like chicken tikka masala or any kind of creamy yummy India food, you will LOVE this dish. It is prawns cooked in coconut milk with herbs. It is one of my favorite dishes on their menu and its a monthly special. The prawns were cooked to absolute tender perfection. You don't understand; it is very easy to screw up prawns. Just go eat the prawns in Tom Yum Goong soup at any Thai restaurant. It's usually tough and overcooked, but the chef at Mount Everest clearly knows how to make prawns. These prawns were fresh, tender, juicy and very flavorful and the sauce it comes in is so unbelievably decadent. Don't bother with the Makhmali or naan stuffed with cashew, raisins and cherries. It's all mushed up and tasted kind of bland.

I'm so glad I have a culinary soulmate that will go with me to Berkeley for random adventures. Like for Nepalese food. I had a pretty super awesome meal here, and all thanks to groupon. I would have never discovered Mount Everest without it. I ordered the off the Nepalese Specials section: chicken with onions and spicy Nepalese curry, I ordered it spicy & it was! best garlic naan I've had in a loooong time.

Checked this place out tonight because we had a Groupon and... WOW! This place is fantastic! The food was plentiful, not overpriced and so tasty and flavorful. We started with the Aloo Tikki Chaat which was incredible. The plate was devoured between us fairly quickly. We also got an order of the Vegetarian momo, which was good, a decent dish but paled in comparison to the Malai Kofta. The Malia Kofta was INSANELY good. I wanted to pour the sauce into a tall glass and just drink it. So flavorful and bright and hit all the right spots!! We obliterated this dish with a side of their perfect garlic naan. We shall definitely return again and again. So glad that Groupon made it possible for us to discover this place. The prices are low and I felt guilty even using a Groupon because the service was attentive and friendly and the food was outstanding. But, I know I'll be back for return visits. I'm adding this place to a list of Must-Go-To's!!!

Came here with a friend and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The portions provided seemed a bit small, but with an appetizer I left more than full. Like my tummy hurts kind of full. I have yet to try their Nepalese cuisine, but they definitely will have me back and I look forward to returning. The service is also absolutely amazing. They always keep an eye on you and my waiter was a very charming and helpful guy. This restaurant is a must-try.

Last night I had the pleasure of trying Nepalese cousine for the first time. My thanks to the staff for accommodation for my wheat allergy, our waitress may not have know each ingredient in each dish but she did something amazing that not all wait staff will do. She communicated with the chef on every dish to make sure they were safe, Gluten Free and delicious. WOW! We started with the monthly special Kukhura Ko Pakheta, spiced/ baked chicken wings which were delicious on their own but when topped with the flavorful sauce was amazing. A definite "I have to have these again", I followed this up with a flavorful and tender Rack of Lamb while my boyfriend enjoyed spinach infused lamb with Naan. Even ifthe food weren't amazing I would be back just for the attention to my food allergies and the effective communication by the staff. Oh! two tips! Get there early, it starts filling up fast! If you have food allergies this makes it easier for them to pay extra special attention to your needs!

Lunch specials! Comes with a little bit of everything which is just how I like things. Saffron Rice, Salad, Naan bread and a garbonzo bean dish I hadn't had before. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Palak Paneer. Both were fantastic, but very small portions. They come served on a silver platter with all the items in their own small dish. Service was friendly and quick. The food was delicious and fresh! Totally made my day having had so many hit and miss experiences with Indian restaurants in the past. I'd love to go back and try their samosas to see if they knock those outta the park as well! This place is very clean and inviting. The restroom was clean and taken care of.

One of my favorite delivery places in the area; I'm glad Mount Everest trucks down the hill to my neighborhood. The Baingan Bharta usually makes its way into our order, as well as the generously-stuffed momo. You really can't go wrong menu-wise with your order. Prices are fair, too.

This was my first time to this restaurant, and my first time having Nepali food (I have however, had Indian cuisine before) and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I set a 5pm reservation for myself and a friend, so I caught them just after opening for the dinner crowd. The interior was clean, the music was cultural, and I could see it being dinner spot in the later evening. The restaurant actually looks like it belongs in San Francisco rather than the edge of Telegraph. The waitress was polite and knowledgeable when I asked her to help me decide on Nepali dishes, since I really wanted to stick to foods I've never had before. She even joked around with us at the table, which I think is a good sign of quality customer service I had the Khajur Shake (date shake w/ vanilla flavoring) for a beverage; Papadi Chaat for the appetizer; Goat Curry, Garlic Naan, Basmati Rice for the entree; Gulab Jamuns for dessert. The Khajur Shake was delicious, like a sweeter, less milky version of a vanilla shake, but the flavor was also a little heady. I would recommend sipping it slowly if you've never had one before. The Papadi Chaat was an interesting creation: thin crispy bread, topped with a potato, tomato, onion, mint, tamarind sauce mixture with just a hint of spiciness. All soaking in a plate of a juice of some sort. I knew that it would be packed with flavor but I was still overwhelmed by it. To their credit, they blended the mint flavor incredibly well because I enjoyed it despite having a distaste for mint in my food. The Goat Curry was phenomenal in my opinion. There were a lot of little bones in the meat (I guess goats have small bones? News to me) but it was tender, well cooked, and flavorful. I would say goat is close to lamb in appearance and texture, but has a flavor all its own. The curry was tasty over rice, and with the garlic naan. I didn't have the regular naan here but the garlic was good enough that I will only order it the next time I go. The only downside to the Goat Curry was the strip of fat that accompanied almost every piece of meat. I can deal with eating around a bone, but peeling off a strip of fat (surprisingly easy to peel off though) while trying to separate meat from bone was a little distracting. The Gulab Jamuns was better than expected based on the look. It looks like two cornbread balls soaking in oil. The reality is that it is two cornbread balls topped with very fine coconut shavings (I think) soaking in a light syrup. By this time I was stuffed, but I ate half of one anyway and realized that it might be too sweet for me at that point. But the taste and texture was right up my alley. Had I not stuffed myself I probably would have finished both without hesitation. All in all only a few things detracted from my experience, but it's worth a 4 star rating.

Yes. Thank you groupon. Yes. They spice our food like we aren't white, and everybody that works there is not only super friendly, but also super beautiful. The portions were perfect, and the price was right. I will be back! Their lunch specials look like such a great deal. The only thing i didn't enjoy was the strong smell of incense through my entire meal. I wouldn't say it affected the taste, but it was very heavy. If i was sensitive, i might not have been able to handle it.

Let's hear it for groupon helping us to be introduced to new places. I had never noticed the restaurant, but when I saw it on groupon, loving Indian food the way I do, I decided to try it. It was one of the best all-around restaurant experiences I have had in a long time. It is very attractive and clean, the service was laughingly delightful and the food was outstanding. We ordered all Nepalese dishes since we'd never had them, and with the exception of the appetizer (eggplant dredged in chickpea flour and fried), which we both felt was blah, everything else was fantastic. The flavors are, of course, similar to Indian, but with a subtlety that gave it a flavor of its own. Considering the amount of food we got, the price was reasonable and this is definitely a place I will go again, along with other friends who are lovers of this type of cuisine. I highly recommend Mt. Everest for a lovely dining experience, including very honest opinions and some laughs from some of the waiters. Lots of veggie and vegan choices - nice.

This place has prompt, good service and delicious, savory food that is inexpensive. The best dish so far - delicious Korma - not always on the menu at Indian restaurants. Happy to find it here. Would have been perfect with some almond slices. Didn't notice that the goat dish came with bones until it arrived - some were broken and pointy - would probably not go for that again.

After trying a number of Indian restaurants in Berkeley I tried Mount Everest and now it's the only place I go. All of the curries (mostly vegetarian) I've had have been great, especialy for the ~$8/dish prices! The samosas and pakoras have also been delicious every time as well. Though the curries are better than others I've had in Berkeley, the reason I keep wanting to come back, though, is probably that the place is inviting and the people are so incredibly friendly that it just makes me happy to be there. Go. You'll love it.

After months of searching, I think my man and I might have found our go-to Indian ordering place. I'm giving Mount Everest 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 bc the food we've had has been really good. They have a ton of great vegetarian options (Veg Tiki Masala and Korma are sooooo good!), the nan is good, and they have online ordering so I don't have to bother talking to an actual human being. Delivery is usually around 45-60 minutes, but easy. The price is pretty good too - on the cheap to normal priced range for Indian delivery. My main gripes that hold this place back? 1-The dishes don't come with rice (so don't forget to order it!) and 2- The plastic containers they serve the delivery in have got to be the cheapest possible option. Seriously, it's the weakest kind of plastic container I've ever seen, and it's the kind of material that makes me wonder if it's going to leach out chemicals that cause cancer. I really wish they would use something better quality. One time our order actually arrived with one of the meals completely spilled all in the delivery bag bc the POS plastic container had broken. SO make sure you CHECK YOUR DELIVERY ORDER. But, the upside is they very quickly and with no hassle brought us a replacement. But.... like I said, it tastes good ;-)

Garlic soup was the highlight of my meal. I ordered one of the Himalayan/Nepalese dishes as my main entrée. It was OK. Since I'm not familiar with this cuisine, it could be very authentic or not at all. It was different than typical Indian cuisine. I can say that much. I wasn't that impressed by it though. Most of the rest in my party ordered Indian dishes, but what's the point of going to a Nepalese restaurant if you are only going to order Indian? There is no shortage of generic Indian restaurants these days, and it's all about the same, including here. I would return for the garlic soup and to try out other Nepalese dishes.

Mount Everest is definitely one of the better Indian places in Berkeley. The interior is quite warm and maybe even a little romantic. Their lunch specials are a steal and they have the best garlic naan in town. My only qualm with this place is that their curry can be a hit-or-miss. For example, my chicken tikka misala was really good on one occasion but totally watered down on another.

  • Cheng S.

We ordered the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, regular naan, chicken tandoori, and goat curry. The good: -the food was tasty -service (nice workers) The bad: -very very small portion and rather pricey in comparison to other restaurants selling the same thing and of similar quality -really dark; this might just be my complaint but I'd prefer to have a little bit more lighting so it doesn't feel like someone can easily creep up from behind me when I'm eating I don't really plan on coming here again because I think there are restaurants that provide very delicious food similar to the ones offered here and for much greater portions and lower prices.

We had dinner here last night w/ our friends Barbara and Jay. They live in the neighborhood and had had takeout after getting a flyer on their porch and later had eaten in. Barbara made reservations for 7:00. Alan and I arrived first to an almost empty restaurant. There was a party of 6 or 8 young people. Barbara and Jay joined us and a few other parties filed in. This space used to house the Bison Brew Pub several years ago. Ceilings are high, colors are warm earthtones and it feels clean, welcoming and attractive. There's a loft upstairs for larger parties. We were welcomed warmly and seated. There is a monthly specials menu and dishes that are particularly popular are added to the regular menu. Prices are extremely reasonable. We ordered an appetizer of cauliflower in a flatbread presentation. I didn't get its name. It was good, although the cauliflower wasn't as assertive a presence as I had expected. Jay ordered the Mt. Everest herbal soup from the Nepali special menu and it was delicious. He also ordered a goat dish. He likes his food spicy so I didn't taste it. Alan ordered a dish of asparagus and mushrooms from the current specials menu. Barbara ordered lamb tikka massala and I ordered the tandoori rack of lamb, which arrived on a sizzling metal platter w/ sliced onions and peppers. It was a generous portion, three double chops and there was plenty to share. I also ordered mushroom saag, which a previous reviewer had mentioned and though it was not on the menu they made it for me. It was wonderful. I've had lamb saag, but never mushroom. We ordered garlic naan and papadums arrived w/o being ordered, at least I didn't hear anyone order it. They were probably the tastiest papadums I've had. Alan ordered a beer and Barbara, Jay and I shared a bottle of a very nice shiraz which cost $18 or $19. All the food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I would order most of them again. Service was prompt, sweet and attentive. Our servers wore flashing rings and when we admired them they gave Barbara and me ones of our own. It would be nice if Mt. Everest weren't clear across town, but it's definitely worth the trip. We'll come back.

We must of ordered the wrong dishes as I really wanted to like this restaurant. I got a shrimp dish that was not on the menu but came recommended by our waiter. Apparently it was last month's special. The dish was overwhelmed with onions and lacked the shrimp I was being charged for. It tasted like an Asian dish and steep at $13. We also got the Khasi Ko Masu (goat meat in curry sauce) which wasn't anything to rave about. Skip the chai tea as it's very watered down and doesn't come with refils. We may return to try other dishes and perhaps for their lunch specials, but not anytime soon.

We grabbed a bottle of wine and walked over from a friend's house in the neighborhood. We shared a number of dishes - paneer pakora, garlic soup, and several curries, naan. As vegetarians, my wife and I had plenty of options. We loved them all. We eat Indian a lot and appreciated the heavy Indian elements in their dishes (which of course won't come as a surprise). We noticed the spices and prudent use of dairy was wonderful. We are used to Indian restaurants going white (add in too much ghee and heavy cream , cut back on the spices). Not here! Ambiance is ok - not bad, but not memorable. Service was great.

Mount Everest is one of the best Indian places I've been to at berkeley. I've only been to two other Indian restaurants (Biryani and House of curries), but this one definitely stood out. Biryani house was good, especially the biryani (fried rice) they serve, but as far as curry goes, I have to give it to Mount Everest. It tasted very authentic even though I never had authentic indian food. I ordered their malai kofta and it was just flat out delicious. I also ordered their naan, and it was probably the best naan I had out of the three Indian restaurants I've been to. The naan was just so fluffy! I just wanted to keep eating it. You have to try it to know what I'm talking about! The place is nicely set up with nice drapes and curtains and as far as cleanliness goes, it's pretty clean; they recently remodeled it. However, one complaint that I have to say is, one of the waiter there is rather creepy.. I ate there with a friend (vina - indian connoisseur) one afternoon and that creepy waiter kept looking at us eat and when we ordered he seemed all sly and stuff. He was like talking in such a low voice..and being all quiet and stuff. He also seemed like he was creeping on us from the shadows, and whenever he came to serve us he seemed to move and talk very slowly, lingering at our table. He is just creepy in general..so watch out when you go. Also! my friend iris, went there last week to get some to curry from Mt. Everest, she said that the creepy waiter said to her "I see you walking around a lot" and asked her "do you live around here" She was totally creeped out! She was like uhhh yeaa?? I live around the block. I'm not sure why she said that..but I hope nothing bad happens to her. If something does, I know who to look for. With all that said about the creepy waiter, I still can not take a star away from this place because food wise, it is top notch. As far as cost goes, it's on the pricier end. The curry and naan I ordered came out to about $12 bucks after tax and tip. But I will definitely come back again and again! I live like two minutes away. This will be my go to restaurant for the next year or so. Also this was the deciding factor for whether to move or not next year. Mount everest pretty much sealed the deal for my stay at my current apartment. My authentic indian friend suchitha (president of indian Student Association @ UC Berkeley) also loves mount everest. That alone should be the reason for you to go try it. Also help support ISA: myedu.com/free/india

Lunch was $13, including everything. Well, well. What do we have here? I believe we have a rare exception to my rule about Indian food in Berkeley: If I'm willing to walk to it in the rain, they don't make food worth eating, let alone paying for. Not only did I walk to it in the rain, but I'd do it again. I was pleasantly surprised by both the lamb and the check.

I don't know too much about Nepali Cuisine, but it doesn't seem to far from Indian cuisine. And I would rather eat at a good Indian place than eat here. Their "spicy" is quite bland by itself. The food was just OK. Not too great. Not a good place for vegetarians.

Definitely a favorite. My wife and I have been getting takeout and delivery here since it opened (once upon a time we'd eat at restaurants, but that was before we had a baby). The food is just fantastic, and I say this as someone who's traveled throughout northern India and Nepal. The chicken choilla is my favorite dish - perfectly marinated and cooked chicken breast with onions and lots of spices. I'm usually the type of person who never orders the same thing from a menu twice, but this is just one of those dishes that you crave. Their nan is perfect, soft but at the same time crispy, and not doughy or chewy. The saag/palak is tasty (which is my benchmark for an indian/pakistani/nepali restaurant - if the spinach is good and fresh, then they're using the right ingredients). Their meat dishes are just awesome - all seem perfectly cooked to order and don't have that feel that they've been drying out in a pot all day like so many other restaurants in the area. Delivery has always been great. Never a complaint on timeliness and our food is always hot. It pays to become a regular and tip well. :) All in all, it's the best option for this style of food in the area. My advice would be to try the Nepali dishes - they certainly do not disappoint and have a uniqueness about them.

I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants in Berkeley, and this is by far my favorite. If you come here you MUST try the GARLIC NAAN!! Their honey naan is pretty good too if you don't mind sweet naan with salty curry. When we come here we like to get the chicken tikki masala (always a must), lentils and potato, and vegetable curry dish. We've had the pan fried seafood/kabob dishes before and they were kinda dry. The service is great and the waiters are friendly. There was a time when the food would take forever to come out so we would bring an Ipad or a book, but the last time we came here it was okay. Hit or miss with that and the wait time has zero correlation with the amount of people in the restaurant, so I'd just bring something to do just in case.

Wow, we reallllly loved this place! The food was amazing, awesome portion sizes, and the prices were unreal - every entree was less than $10. The service was very friendly, the decor was nice (pretty romantic, even). I lovvvvved the rose lassi drink We will be back, again and again!

"Nice" dinner, 3 of us last night. Lamb Saag, spicy-- I would have preferred a little less spicy (my fault) and more lamb chunks, was mostly spinach. Garlic naan, can't go wrong. Friend with lamb curry, spicy, gave thumbs up. Hubby with the special veggie plate enjoyed it very much. It looked like an indian-style bento box! Overall good, and the service was pleasant. Someone had posted that you can park for free in behind the restaurant. That's not true, the parking is pre-paid for employees. Parking on the street was easy, metered.

This place is really just average. I love Indian food - I really found my love after coming to Berkeley and being able to try so many different foods. There are only a couple places around the campus area and I always get the same thing when I go to an Indian restaurant - Chicken Tikki Masala and a plain Naan. The food to me was just kind of average. There wasn't anything too special, but nothing horrible either. My roommate and I decided to come by after getting our nails done because we're just like that. It used to be Tandoor Kitchen which I heard was really good, but this new restaurant - I didn't know what to expect. The service was pretty good until we wanted to pay. We were talking to other people who came to get take out, but we had finished out dishes and were just kind of sitting there for a while. They did fill our waters whenever it seemed it was empty. There is a girl server there that doesn't really speak English which was awkward when we asked her what this soup thing that we got when sitting down was. The ambiance was great. I could tell that the people in the kitchen were Indian or Nepali which was comforting. I thought that the servers were good as well. The place looks nice and there is quite a bit seating since there is a 2nd floor as well. The prices are definitely affordable. The portions are a bit smaller than the portions at the other 2 near campus. Then again, my roommate and I were on a "diet" while eating this so we kind of didn't pay too much attention to how much was actually in the bowl. It just seemed less than the other two places. Regardless, we enjoyed our dinner and would go back if we really are craving Indian food and didn't feel like walking all the way down to House of Curries.

mount everest is without a doubt the best indian food you can find on telegraph ave. skip naan and curry as well as house of curries which are both down the street, and head over to this authentic eatery located just miles away from the UC berkeley campus. my favorite part about mount everest is the fact that they have such reasonable lunch specials. lunch includes naan (about four, fluffy pieces), rice, ridiculously flavorful lentils/chickpeas, salad and your entree of choice. my favorites here are the CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA (medium pls), PALAK PANEER (also medium pls), and the LAMB KARAHI (i'm a sucker for medium). if you can't handle spice, don't get the spicy option, as it will surely burn a hole through your stomach.

Checked this place out with my friend Stan G. since he had a groupon. Gotta say, it wasn't what I expected, but it was good! I would definitely come back! They had a huge menu, it was hard deciding what to get. We ended up getting chicken tikka masala and a lamb curry with rice and naan. The lamb curry was great! Huge chunks of lamb and not overcooked. We got medium and mild for the dishes, and if you like spicy food, you can definitely go spicier here. The chicken tikka masala was sweeter than I was used to, but I'm no expert when it comes to Nepalese and Indian food. Portions are good, prices are reasonable, and service was great :)

I can't say much about the ambiance of the actual restaurant itself because I got delivery. It's been bad weather week in Berkeley--the type of weather that soaks your socks after three seconds of being outside. My lazy ass was craving something warm and delivered... Mt. Everest definitely fit the bill. I ordered chicken tikka ($8.00), plain naan ($1.25), and garlic naan ($1.99), while the roomie ordered chicken curry ($6.99) and honey naan (1.99). Delivery is free with a $20 minimum. I was worried that they would take too long because of the rain, but delivery was speedy at 25 minutes! The chicken tikka is the BEST I've had in Berkeley! The sauce was rich and thick, while the chicken was all white meat and had no bones. It also didn't have that nasty layer of oil found in House of Curries' tikka. Oh, and did I mention it was PIPING hot? The first bite actually burned my tongue! The naan was warm and chewy, a little thicker which I liked. The garlic naan had chunks of garlic and herbs which didn't stand out as much as I would have thought. I usually can't finish two naans and a whole order of curry, but everything was so delicious that I was definitely part of the clean plate club that night. Definitely going to the restaurant sometime soon to try other items.

New when it comes to Indian/Nepalese cuisine but came here for a company lunch outting. I must say I am loving this place. You can smell the spicy aroma literally a block away. Im not even sure what we ordered but a lot of chicken/veggies/shrimp/lamb dishes. All of them were absolutely delish! No complaints on the food. If your new to Indian cuisine, I say try this place out. Staff was friendly and helpful. Even if you dont know what to order, like me, everything came out great! OMG they have the bessssttt coffee ever!!! I dream about their coffee! Beats starbucks, peets or whatever cafe around town there is. Hands down. Rich, flavorful, a tad sweet how i like it. uggh i need to go back. Parking sucks thooouugh!

I had been wanting to come here for a while, and I finally made it! I only wish I would have come here sooner, because this is probably the best Indian food I've had in Berkeley. The chiken tikki masala was really good, but their naan is the best part. I had both the plain and garlic, and I'd highly suggest getting the garlic! I felt like i could just eat their naan all day. If you're a fan of northern Indian food definitely go here!!!

Terrible Customer service! The food is okay, the garlic naan is garlic naan - not special by any means. The samosas are bland and 95% potato, the chicken korma was decent. I ordered it mild and it certainly came that way - tasteless might be the better way to describe it... I wish they knew the difference between mild (spiciness) and totally bland. My primary issue is their customer service. I got takeout to bring back to my hotel room and was surprised to see no rice with my chicken korma. I've ordered this dish from about 20 restaurants over the last decade and never have been stiffed on rice. I called to let them know and they acted like i was crazy b/c "it doesn't come with rice"... so i suggested asking customers: "Would you like rice with that?" when they order. That's when they hung up the phone on me! Bottom line - order rice if you'd like it - and don't expect them to care if you have a complaint or suggestion. They will give you no apologies and won't accept your feedback.

There's a convoluted history of this restaurant changing hands through co-workers and a cab driver, and a family tree would be pretty interesting to look at. For the time being, though, you can make do with the very, very delicious food in this fine-looking restaurant. Mount Everest actually serves Nepalese *and* Indian food, and as good as the Indian food is -- and it is very, very good -- the Nepalese is even better. The gracious staff will guide you through the choices which, upon arrival, will probably look somewhat familiar to some Indian dishes but add an ingredient here and subtract one there, and the differences are apparent and a welcome change. A good chunk of the menu is made up of vegetarian dishes and lunch specials, and a surprising variety of bread and rice offerings. (Honey naan, anyone?) Service is attentive without being fawning, and personal enough that the owner even came out to say hello. Mount Everest is located on the east end of Telegraph (boy, that's an odd sentence to type!), so parking can be tricky, but it's not so close to campus that it's impossible; we grabbed a street spot next to the auto garage across the way and walked maybe thirty yards at most. Good prices which are 20% off during their opening (September 2010). Catering and delivery are available. Get in there while it's still a deal!

I love this place. I have been coming here for a while (ever since the days it was called Tandoor Kitchen). The atmosphere is pretty basic, nothing special. They don't seem worried about decorations or anything but thats fine with me. I like their high ceilings. They have plenty of seating room, I think its two floors. The service is really good. The owner is a wonderful and very helpful person. The staff is efficient. I love their food! Its really good if you are looking for basic Indian food near UCB. Comparable to House of Curries. I always get their Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan and its wonderful. They make it really spicy since I am obsessed with spicy food. The mango lassi is to die for as well. The prices are pretty cheap. I don't think I have ever gotten food here that cost more than $10. Overall, cheap, good Indian food near campus!

The restaurant was completely empty at 8 on a Friday night which was a bit weird. The wait was a bit long considering we were the only people there. Our waiter was pretty helpful explaining everything and helping us to order, but also a bit annoying. He saw us checking Yelp on our phones and started telling us that they just got a horrible Yelp review and how unfair it is. He was going on and on for a few minutes. I understand his pain but dude - we are already sitting in your restaurant, don't try to convince us its a worthy place. Mango lassy was super good (we even wanted to get a second one but the waiter advised us not to do it as we would be too full for food after it) My husband got a curry which he really liked, I got a mix of grilled chicken, fish, and shrimp on a skewer. My dish came with two tiny shrimp in it and the chicken was extremely overcooked and completely dry. All and all - nothing to write home about, I wouldn't go there a second time.

Pretty good. I had it delivered because my couch and a Parenthood marathon was calling my name. It was delivered within 40 minutes - nice and hot. I liked the food, and I would consider getting it again. I got: - Chicken Tikka Masala (pretty standard, but don't let me deter you. I love the flavorful sauce and the white meat chunks were tasty) - Chicken Korma (ehhhhhh....sauce was good, but I did NOT like the chicken featured here. It was kind of chewy, fatty dark meat). I would consider getting it again, but maybe with only white meat requested. - Basmati Rice (good) - Garlic Naan (buttery and soft and garlicky....soooo good!) - Paneer Naan (eh, okay....I wanted more cheese though....it came across as dry) Overall, a yummy Indian takeout success!

Pretty good meal for a rather attractive price. I enjoyed the new tastes of the Indian cuisine, although my Indian friend felt dissapointed with their spiciest offering. I had the chicken daal. It lacked in meat, but the flavors were new to me and the naan was great. It was like fatty tortilla. Willing to come here again, although my picky Indian friend will probably think otherwise.

Awesome food, horrible take-out experience. Lured by their 20% Grand Opening discount, I decided to order a large take-out: one formosa appetizer, one Chicken Tikkia Misala, and one order of nan. All together, it was about $10-$11 with the discount. When I got home, I realized one fatal flaw: None of it came with rice! I called them, confirming that there wasn't a mistake, and well, it wasn't: the tub of rich, creamy Tikka Masala that is nothing without rice just didn't come with any. No, the rice was $2 extra. So I was forced to make my own... Honestly, having Tikka Masala not include rice is like having a BLT not include bread. The second time I went, I decided to order the same Tikka Masala while asking the cashier whether it came with rice. He said it didn't, but I could order the lunch special (comes with nan, lentils, small salad, and RICE) even though it was 8:00pm. I thought he was being kind... until he "forgot" the 20% discount. I had to remind him of it, but since he was giving me the special, I said that $8 was fine. When I got home, I realized the second fatal flaw: The lunch special reduces the amount of Tikkia Masala by about 80%. That's right... I was given about one-fifth the amount of sauce - which is what matters. The rice, lentils, and nan was essentially REPLACING the missing sauce, not adding to the dish. And now I feel horrible enough to write this review. These two experiences are unfortunate, because the food is actually quite good. The formosas were crisp and at the right balance of spice and texture, the nan was hot, fluffy, and went well with the sauce, and the Tikka Masala was smooth and rich. But the bullshit take-out leaves a bitter aftertaste in my mouth.

Me and my roommate lived 5 minutes walk away from this place and ate hear at least once a week for a year. Whenever anyone comes to visit me, I'd bring them to this restaurant. If I ever get a date with a nice girl worthy of good food, I'd bring her here. This is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley. My favorite dish by far is the Kukhura Ko Sekuwa (chicken with onions and bell peppers and spices on a sizzling iron plate). You can get any of the food with varying degrees of spiciness (very spicy is actually very spicy). The service is also spectacular. The one of the waiters (tall dude with slicked back hair) is one of the nicest guys ever. The ambiance is very nice with candles, tablecloths, and curtains. I'm moving out of Berkeley soon, but I will definitely be making a trip back if just to eat at this place.

Disappointing :( Sent food back, which I almost never do. They made a new order that had a slightly better but was slightly undercooked, probably because they were rushing to replace the first order. I wanted to like this food. Really did.

Tried this place due to a groupon. I loved the food and the service was amazing! I tried a dish that has Nepali black beans that are kinda like chick peas. It was delicious, even though the bean is different than my pallet is familiar. The Naan was delicious! I would definitely go back!

Naan is fantastic, and seating at tables is prompt. I forgot my umbrella there once and went back the next day to find that they had saved it for me, very nice and courteous! Do try the garlic naan and the paneer tikka masala. The tables are very nice with fresh white linen cloth on them all the time, one of the nicer Berkeley restaurants for college students. The prices, for the restaurant, are also affordable.

We had a large party but the staff was nice and kind to us. Food was great. Naan good - garlic naan yum. Servings are small but it seems as if they are generally served not family style. Tikka Masala is wonderful. We had a lot of dishes on the table and we most likely ordered half the menu but it was all good. If you like INdian places, this is great. I don't live too far and should frequent it more but I'm on a budget. You can't go wrong here!

After eating at so many mediocre Indian/Pakistani restaurants in Berkeley and San Francisco, it's refreshing to discover one that's genuinely good near my house. I was very happy with each dish I tried, both Indian and Nepalese. The staff is friendly, but a bit disorganized, which is typical of a newly-opened restaurant.

I am so glad this place is back! I used to go there when it was at Shattuck and University. The food really is good, I like the Malai Kofta and the Nepalese specials. First, let me explain that I will give a 5 Star Review to a restaurant that is worth the rating in its class, not just a Chez Panisse or French Laundry. The meal I had at Mt. Everest this evening was definitely worth 5 Stars and the service, given me by two friendly, professional waiters, was exemplary. My $9.99 entree of Lamb Karahi, lamb cooked with onions and bell pepper, was delicious. Often lamb at Indian restaurants doesn't taste like lamb. Sometimes I can't tell what kind of meat it is even if the menu says "lamb," however the lamb in Mt. Everest's dish had the distinctive gamey flavor indicative of great lamb. The mixed green salad, $3.99, was large and delicious with carrot and cucumber slices around the plate's edge, black olives mixed with the greens. The garlic naan, which I've read about on Yelp!, was more than delicious. Warm, with chunks of garlic embedded in the pizza-like thin slices. Between the wonderful staff and great food this restaurant is top-notch. Next time I want to try a dish from the authentic Nepali side of the menu.

Great food! Excellent customer service. Since our party was not very familiar with Nepalese food, our waiter did explain to us how it's a little different from Indian food. They even offered us a sample of one of their Nepalese pickled vegetable dish. Love the Naan and Lentil with Lamb dish that we had.

Went for dinner with two others and everything was amazing! Service was great and the food came out quick. The mango lassi was to die for. I would suggest getting one of the Nepali Specials, they come with rice, naan, lentils, paneer(handmade indian cheese) with peas, potato and veggies salad, dessert, and the special of your choice. I got the Dal Bhat Takari with lamb and it blew my socks off! Perfect amount of spice and the best lamb I've ever had.

I am a snob and usually travel to the South Bay for my Indian food craving. I particularly hate the Indian food scene in Berkeley coz they really change things around to please the white Berkeley crowd (you know, the ones who think they could never be racist?!). But I decided to try Mount Everest because the female Nepali chef in there used to work for a Nepali restaurant on College Ave (now closed down) and I remember she made the best Samosas and momos in the bay area. My partner is Indian and a vegetarian. The menu offer both Indian and Nepali dishes. We both ordered the momos. Mine's the chicken and hers the vegetarian. They were close to perfection. The momo dipping sauce is the soul of this dish. Do not bother making them yourself please. We were given complimentary Samosa Chaat and the whole time I wondered it's taken me so long to eat at this place. The chaat dish was comparable to the one I frequent in Fremont. Viks does not even offer this dish. The lemonade with the masala was also surprisingly yummy! The Aloo Palak in every restaurant we go to is risky to order coz we both love this dish and have had really delicious ones in India. Just don't know how you can mess up Aloo Palak?!! My partner took one bite, closed her eyes and smiled so blissfully, I want to kiss the chef! So now, I no longer have to trek all the way to the South Bay for decent South Indian fare.

This used to be my favorite place for quick indian meal back when it was called Tandoor kitchen and was run by a different owner. While there definitely were better Indian restaurants in town, I thought it was a good deal for the price. I loved to stop by late in the evening on my way home and grab some take out dinner. One night I came by and ordered my usual Malai Kofta, rice and naan. I was VERY disappointed. The sauce in Malai Kofta tasted way off, it was way too sour. Rice was flavorless (normally it is cooked with spices) and naan was burned. I did not realize that the owner of the place has changed and assumed that the cook working that shift was not very good. Regardless, I came by again a few weeks later to get some chicken tikka masala and found out that the place had a new owner. That explained my previous bad experience but i decided to give the place another shot anyway. Once again, the sauce in my chicken tikka masala was way off (the proportion of spices all wrong) and rice had no flavor. And since the sauce was bad I did not even want to mix it with the rice to add some taste to it. I fished out the chicken bits and with great regret realized that I will have to find a new favorite place to eat at. I seriously think at least some of the reviews for this restaurant are written by owners themselves. They are trying super hard to get people to come eat there by having "special deals", giving you a menu to take with you as you exit and asking you to tell your friends to come eat there as well. Guys, if you are reading this - to get people to like your place, you've got to learn how to cook. People go to a restaurant to eat, and if your food is bad I don't care that it's 20% less expensive and you bend over backwards for each client. Send your cooks to a cooking school and maybe I'll come by again. One star for niceness, 0 stars for food!

I was surprised to find this place sparsely crowded at lunch. I have been here a few times and the food has been absolutely wonderful every time. As someone who finds Indian food a little too heavy, I find the food filling and just right. They have an organic menu, a wide variety of options, and great sitting by the windows. I just went for lunch where you get a lot of food for a really good price. Also the servers are super friendly. Please keep supporting this restaurant. It's one of the best that Berkeley has to offer.

We stumbled upon this place because of restaurant.com deals. We went there, and I must say I'm not a fan of the Telegraph area. The restaurant itself isn't the best looking place. However, the staff were really great people. They want to help you and make good food. The restaurant is never really busy, which I don't understand because the food was really amazing. They have the best indian/nepal good in the area by far of the places that we have been to. The prices are really resonable too. The waiters are really great and the food is great. We always bring our family in friends who come from out of town to this restaurant to try something different. I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it here!!! This is the best restaurant on Telegraph in the UC Berkeley area. It can be really hard to find tastey vegetarian food in the neighborhood, but they certainly do it right. Not only that, I think it's really nice that they have the option for organic meals. They also label what is vegan and what is good for children!! That shows thought for all eaters! Not only is the food amazing, the staff is really lovely as well. My second time coming here, everyone remembered me. I now go quite often with my boyfriend and everyone is really sweet and personable!! Try it!

3.5 stars, really. I ordered online for free delivery (with purchase over $20). The food arrived 20 minutes early so I wasn't quite ready to eat yet. I had ordered Chicken Momo, which according to the menu is dumplings served with their special herbal soup. When I opened the bag, there was no soup, only the dumplings! I called the delivery man and he said the restaurant finds soup too difficult to deliver. I did not like hearing that because the dumplings WITH soup is listed on the menu at the online delivery website. Fortunately, with a bit of assertiveness on my part, he came back with the soup within ten minutes (but I do live very close to the restaurant). That was a bit weird, and I didn't didn't like the garlic naan - really thin and kind of gummy, not fluffy at all. On the other hand, I loooved the veggie samosa and the dumplings with soup (I would call it lentil soup with herbs, not herbal soup). The lamb biryani was also good; the lamb was tender and not at all dry. I would definitely try this place again, especially for the soup.

I have been to Mt. Everest about 5 times now and each time the service and food has been great. All of the employees there have great customer service and are so nice. The food is the highlight though. The menu has so many choices and everything that we have got there has been great. Their lamb dishes are particularly delicious. We have been to other Nepali/Indian food restaurants in town and this one is by far the best.

An excellent Indian restaurant was previously at this location. I was sad to learn that it had sold to new owners with a new menu ... until I discovered that the new restaurant is owned by the husband and wife team who were the magic behind our formerly favorite restaurant in Berkeley - a Nepali Restaurant on Shattuck and University. Now running their own restaurant, they have created a wonderful family atmosphere and a fantastic menu. Their Tandoori Chicken is the most tender and moist I have ever had. (By the way, I have lived in India and traveled extensively in Nepal.) I am addicted to their Bhindi Bhaji (fresh okra dish). I don't normally eat bread, but I can't resist their Bhatura Cholle, a puffed bread served with a spicy garbanzo mix that you scoop up with the bread. Their Nepali specialties are also delicious. I am slowly working my way through the menu! The chef/owner is very savvy as a restaurateur and has added beer and wine, tablecloths, cloth napkins and candles, and free WIFI. In this neighborhood (near the University) such amenities are rare. He has created a lovely date night atmosphere. In addition, in the summer the upstairs has a wall of glass that opens to the outside.

Randomly came upon this place on its opening day with a fellow Indian/Pakistani food lover and we fell in love with it. Since then we take everyone we can there. Honestly this is the closest thing I have had to what food tastes like in Pakistan. Drop whatever you're doing right now and go there! RIGHT NOW! We haven't had anything we don't love yet. Make sure to get it spicy.

Pretty decent for the money. Had lunch Tandoori Seekh kabobs for about $8 bucks. Kabobs were moist and seared just right and the curry garbanzo's had a nice smooth kick. Nice combo's worth a look.

Overall, the food here is pretty decent but not too memorable. I would give it a 3.5 and round up to 4. We ordered: 1) Lamb Curry - my favorite dish was the lamb curry because the lamb was very well cooked and tender 2) Chicken Vindaloo - the chicken is very tender, definitely one of the best ones i've had 3) Veggie Chowmein (Nepali special) - the chowmein is interesting because the noodle tasted like the linguini pasta noodles, except it's asian. it wasn't too impressive 4) Garlic Naan - I thought this was ok. I usually prefer softer naan, so I've definitely had better ones elsewhere 5) Mango Lassi - i would recommend getting the ones here. it's pretty consistent, as good as the one from taste of himalayas.

A mere half a dozen blocks south of Sproul Plaza on Telegraph and Parker, lies Mount Everest Restaurant (MER). MER's two story façade is entirely covered by windows, making it hard to miss. Not surprisingly, the harder-to-reach windows panes were covered in the oily veneer to which we have grown accustomed. The interior is well appointed, with sheer curtains, a recirculating fountain, and the obligatory paintings of deities and Himalayan landscapes. However, the wall décor immediately become superfluous once you take your seat and notice the rupee notes embedded underneath the glass table surface. At our table we found a combination of 1- and 2-rupee notes, totaling 6 rupees. Using the dollar-to-rupee conversion rate of 1:53 on the day of our visit, we calculated a table value of 11 cents, which we considered including as part of the tip. Our waiter was very congenial (perhaps more so than usual because of our conspicuous note-taking) and regaled us with stories of a regular patron who routinely ordered exceptionally spicy food. The waiter commented, "Perhaps he will die tomorrow. But he's been coming here for a year, and still is not dead." Having reassured us, with this anecdote, that capsaicin poses no significant health threat, Yogi proceeded to make our wishes clear, "Make everything EXTRA spicy, so there aren't any screw-ups." To which, the waiter replied, "Don't blame me later..." Thankfully, our dishes, while very spicy (vide infra), were not deadly. MER's offers a wide array of beverage options, including Indian beer & wine (annotated with tasting notes...). Curiously, a number of the food items on the menu included odd symbols indicating vegan (), spicy (), kid-friendly (), and new item (Ÿ). We are only left to imagine what character they actually intended to use to indicate a new item, prior to what is most surely a font-conversion error. As MER's name would imply, the menu highlights Nepali cuisine but also contains many of the typical north Indian favorites. During our visit, we began with the Mt. Everest herbal soup ($4) which was spicy (as per our request), loaded with garlic, and thickened with nondescript, potato-esque pasta blobs. As if to prove his restaurant's mettle with regard to spice, our waiter upped the ante with our next dish, aloo mashyaura ($11), a Nepali curry with soybean dumplings. It was by far and away the spiciest dish, and the sauce had subtle, sweet undertones as well, making for a unique flavor contrast. Even by Yogi's unreasonable standards, the aloo gobi ($8) was deemed very spicy. However, as has been the case with nearly every restaurant so far, our vegetarian eigendish was rife with undercooked potato chucks, reiterating the need for remedial instruction in the basic concepts of heat transfer among Berkeley's Indian chefs. The goat curry, khasi ko masu ($10), was very tasty, with a milder level of spice (the waiter clearly sensed Chat's reduced, gringo heat tolerance). Relative to the other dishes, our chicken momo ($8), or Nepalese steamed chicken dumplings, was bland, but served as a necessary respite from some of the more severely spiced items. Our bread choices were excellent and exotic, including slightly crispy plain naan ($1.25), kid-friendly honey naan ($2; ) and poori ($2). However, we were dishearted to find a hair of dubious origin in one piece of the plain naan, which caused us to question MER's hygiene standards. The mango lassi ($2) tasted like real yogurt, with a tangy, sweet & tart combination that was most excellent. Overall, MER provides good food and attentive service, but did have a misstep or two, placing it solidly in the four-samosa category. The modest prices make MER a two-rupee restaurant, resulting in a samosa-to-rupee ratio of 2.0. We suggest you give MER a try, and when you do, make sure report back with your table's monetary value.

This place was great! The food was fantastic and they had a large menu, so there was so much to choose from. The food comes in little bowls, but when paired with their AWESOME Nan bread (or rice) it's a lot of food! And delicious! :D the only down side was that the service was a tad slow. But otherwise, it was delicious. yum! :) Thanks Everest! PS: even better with the restaurant.com coupon I used!

Was in Berkeley goofing around with my husband before taking him to late flight out of SFO. After going to the Berkeley Hat store, we were hungry and decided to look on Yelp for some place to eat. Quite a few great choices appeared and hubby decided he liked the sound of Indian food so we walked over Mount Everest. We were greeted and found a seat right away. We both ordered from the lunch specials. I had the spinach palak paneer and he had the chicken tika masala . Both came out on a huge circular plate with lot's of nann, a chick pea dish and a salad. The nann was fresh and good but not the best I ever had. The spinach palak paneer though was one of the best ever. It made me wish there was more on the plate even though quite frankly I was so stuffed I wouldn't of been able to eat more. It was just so good. I wish this restaurant was closer so I could come more often.

I'll never come back here again. When I first arrived at this restaurant I noticed there was a spider on my table. I told the waiter to remove it and it took him forever to do so. Thanks, I like going to restaurants where there's bugs crawling around. When the food arrived we realized something was amiss. The portions are average sized but it's nothing but carbs. There's a lot of naan but there's no meat at all. Each lunch special curry dish came with literally 5g of protein from a few small chunks of meat. When my friend complained about this, saying there's "like only 2 pieces of meat" the waiter rudely contravened by saying "no there's 4". Wow four small chunks of meat, that's a whole lot better! My friend, being on a diet, requested to substitute his rice for extra lentils early on when the waiter took his order. The waiter obliged to this but when his food came out, they just took out the rice and didn't give him more lentils as previously agreed upon. Service was horrible throughout our meal. Overall, bad experience and all of my friends are never coming back here again. Take your money to House of Curries or any other Indian place but here.

This place has decent food. Not Extremely good, but ok. They've had a few different names in the past few years, but the food there is always pretty good. they do deliver which is a huge plus. Its also located right on Telegraph, which makes it easy for a lot of students to pick up food on the way home. The prices are a little too high to make it a regular place for a student to go, but its worth it every once in a while.

A 3.5 stars establishment in my books. Here's what we had: Vegi Samosa Chicken Chilly (Nepali Special) Chicken Tiki Masala Lamb Curry Chowmein (Nepali Special) Naan/Garlic Naan The only thing that stood out and I would order again is the Lamb Curry which was super tasty and maybe the Tiki Masala, it was a little too nutty and creamy for me. The flavors of the chicken chilly dish reminded me of chinese sweet and sour chicken with some spicy heat at the end. As for the chow mein, it reminded good al dente spaghetti noodles stir fried in curry spices, nothing to rave about although it was good. Service was attentive. I think it's worth a try if you get a coupon from restaurant.com and I would just stick to the Curry and Naan.

Good food, good service, a solid 4 star place. We tried a new dish in the menu (the lamb rack) and it was dry and untasty, but other than that everything was tasty and clean. If you ask for really spicy be prepared to suffer.

I had a Groupon deal for this place so I finally decided to check it out. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We had the veggie samosa's which were very good. Our entrees came and we were both quite pleased. I had the Lamb Karahi and my daughter had the Chicken Curry. Both were very tasty! Also the basmati rice and the naan were good. I would definitley go here again and recommend!

I've eaten at Mount Everest 3 times now. It's simple, casual, and while the staff is not that attentive they are quite nice and accommodating. It seems like it's a family run kind of place. And the last time I went in they told me they now deliver, so yay for the "I don't want to leave the house" days.

Pretty good except I kept finding rice and other things hidden in my chicken tikka masala. Maybe they figured the next person is likely to eat it with rice and not notice? Maybe I had bad luck, I sure hope they don't reuse hat sauce!

This place is amazing. The service is always nice. The food is simply fantastic... the best Indian/Nepali food in the bay area... and its all reasonably priced. We have been there a few times, and found every dish to be excellent. I always try to taste something from the monthly specials... especially one of the fancy naans. And of course, you've got to get a Mustang beer when you're there. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

This place is fantastic. I pretty much made the account so I could review them. They have it all: delicious food, pretty good prices, really nice and attentive staff, and an excellent location, especially if you want something delicious to dinner after a long day of classes. The ambiance is simple and a little eclectic, but the food is the real focus. I haven't tried the lunch specials but I fully intend to because they are around and, in some cases, under $6, and they come with salad, a main dish, rice, and a lentil garbanzo medley. Also, they have an excellent vegetarian menu. Their momos can be a little dryer than the Himalayas, but the filling and the sauce are delicious. The samosas are delicious and crispy, and the sauces with them are fantastic accompanying the potato and pea filling. The garlic naan is always warm, glistening and perfectly flavored. The Aloo Gobi has a subtle flavor that is wonderful over rice, and the cauliflower is tender. The Aloo Matter is good for beginners, but is rather simple. The Palak Aloo is my favorite- the spinach is so rich and the spices are amazing! These main dishes are great with the veggie biryani or a little basmati, though the biryani comes with a yogurt sauce. It's fantastic, with fresh, good food at a fair price. I've been there several times and I love it. Try it and see for yourself.

We went with these Nepali specials and they were incredible: Mount Everest Herbal Soup, Kukhura Ko Sekuwa (chicken with famous Kathmandu spices/sauce). I know we got something else that was good too, but all I remember is that Kathmandu chicken... wow.

Good food, amazing decor and charming service. Most Indian restaurants I go to are hole-in-the-wall, market-restaurant hybrids. I never mind that, but this place was a complete step up with white table cloths, bronze serving dishes and an upstairs loft for extra seating. We got a cute little table by the window and it turned out to be a great date spot. The person I was with didn't even like Indian food going into it but he ate up every last bite! We didn't venture outside of the Indian food choices but judging from the chicken and the spices, I'm sure everything they whip up is fantastic.

I'm really surprised (and thankful) that they don't have long lines out the door because the food and service have been excellent each time I've been here. They have an extensive menu and a lot of their dishes seem healthier than the typical cream sauces. Their prices are pretty reasonable too!

Really great food and great service. I was craving butter chicken, which wasn't on the menu, but I asked if they had it and the chef made it for me. They didn't even charge me extra! We had butter chicken and the cauliflower potato dish (forgot the name) with a side of basmati and naan. The naan was fantastic, and also re-heated really well, so I liked that a lot. We had the chicken dumplings which were recommended by our server over the veggie ones, and they tasted like chinese dumplings with a hint of spice. Overall, really yummy food and the prices are pretty affordable considering it was enough for two meals for both of us. Definitely want to come back and try the chicken birhani

I was telling my sweetie when we got there, "I sooo hope their food is good because the ambience is beautiful." Samosa Chaat was wonderful! The lamb dish with eggplant was yummy too. The roti was baked perfectly. However, did NOT like the special shrimp dish at all. The sauce was so dry and it was over-reduced that it had a "powdered milk" taste. We told the waitress about it and she pretty much said, "Yea, that's how it is." We also asked for the food to be spiced "medium." We did NOT taste any spice at all. For these, I was not happy with the service since the waitresses did not seem to get us. Maybe because we had a Groupon, we weren't treated as well (?). Who knows.

Pretty mediocre. Enjoyed the samosas, but the lamb saag had the tiniest pieces of meat I've ever seen. Meh, there's got to be better Indian food in town...

Came here for the lunch special. It came with rice, naan, Chicken tikka masala, and some side dish with chickpeas. Both chickpeas and chicken came in two small bowls. I liked that the food was lighter than that of other indian restaurants. Some might think it wasn't a lot of food but I was fine with what I got, my friend said he didn't get full with what he got. Also it doesn't smell as bad as other Indian restaurants and therefore seems cleaner and less stuffy. They have a lot of waiters and staff so the service is great.

I saw the high ratings for this place and thought I would check it out. My friend and I ordered the garlic naan, which was fabulous, a lentil dish, and a napolose fish curry dish, which were all fantastic. I will definitely being going back when I have a craving for Indian food!

Went there for lunch after making Reservations. Buit when we walked in, It was almost empty. Ordered:- Chicken Pakora;- The chicken inside was real good. Was previously cooked on skewers and then fried in oil.. Chicken Ticka Masala and Poori for my husband.. ( He thought it was the best chicken tikka masala he ever tasted).. I saw him even lick the spoon in the bowl.. LOL.. Non-Veg sizzler plate:- I ordered this one cz of my LOOOVE for Non-Veg.. I was allergic to prawns, so asked them to replace the prawns with Lamb... ( Bad choice).. The lamb was too hard.. Not 1 bit juicy.. :(.. The fish and the chicken was done well.. and the marinade was perfect.. The star of the show was the Server.. We're always encountered with a waiter who talks to the female.. But this guy talked equally to hubby and me.. Gosh I should have taken down his name.. Other than the lamb in the sizzler everything else was perrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect... Thats y only the 4 star..

So, I've always loved this space from back when it was the Bison Brewery. The naans, which are my benchmark for Indo/Pakistani cuisine, are light, crispy, and flavorful in the dough. The sauces are very tasty, and everything seems fresh. I'm curious about some of the more esoteric things on the menu. I just had the chicken tikka masala, another benchmark. The sauce was nicely complex and the chicken tender. Thoroughly worth checking out, and with some fine tuning could be something really special.

Delicious food and great service. Reserved a table for my family for graduation and they printed a congratulations note and pinned it up in the window for when we arrived. Very cool. The owner is friendly, really proud of his restaurant, and treats customers extremely well. They make this thing with asparagus and potatoes that is incredibly good. Check it out.

We just had a family dinner here. Three carnivores and one vegetarian. Everything was delicious and everyone who worked there was helpful and friendly. They have all the typical dishes and some other interesting items that you don't see at most Indian restaurants. We will definitely go back again.

Great food, good prices! We stopped in Berkeley for dinner and popped into Mt. Everest restaurant. Once inside, the ambiance is quite warm and inviting. Our hostess was very pleasant and patient with our questions. The food came out in good time and was delicious and non-greasy. We mainly ordered Nepali dishes, their monthly special, chyau palak - (spinach+mushroom), kasi ko masu (goat curry done very well), their veggie soup and a few rotis. All in all a very pleasant experience with good food and great value for money. We will be back to try out more dishes.

I've only ever gotten delivery here, but the food has always been solid and very tasty. I live in El Cerrito, and I'm not sure if they are supposed to deliver here, given that the two times I've called in an order there was a lot of conferring with other folks before they agreed to bring me stuff, but hey, they did end up coming, so kudos to them for making an exception. The last time I got delivery it ended up taking over an hour, so that was kind of a bummer, but the food more than made up for it, and the driver was very apologetic. It was hot and fresh, and I was happy to introduce my boyfriend to a new Indian dish he'd never had, and he really enjoyed it. I would like to dine here in-house sometime, as I'm sure I would not be disappointed.

Went here on a whim, to try something new with a friend, and I LOVED it. I just had to go back two days later to bring another friend. It was that good. The chicken curry is phenomenal, and I also had the chicken saag, which was great too. I love that they give you an option for how spicy you want your food: Mild, Medium, Spicy, or Extra Spicy. It was so fresh, and so good! The waiter was very nice, he made us feel right at home, and made sure we had everything we needed. Completely affordable - we got a 20% discount because it was their "grand opening" but even without the discount, it is a total bargain. I will definitely be going here for my Indian food fix from now on.

This is one of our favorite everyday restaurants. I have been here multiple times and always enjoy it. The food is consistently very tasty, the prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly and fast. The atmosphere is no frills, but comfortable. Good specials offer some variety, in addition to the standard favorites. It is a good place for a couple or a group.

Mount Everest definitely met my expectations: you pay above-average prices, compared to the many cheaper Indian places around campus, but for above-average food. I always get spinach-based curries when go out for Indian, and their lamb saag curry is so savory and delicious and fulfilling. A tad on the salty side, but a perfect balance with some soft fluffy naan or rice. I also tasted the chicken vindaloo at their spiciest level (probably still dumbed down for American eaters), and it was tasty as well, just not my favorite dish of the cuisine in general. Total plus tip came to ~$25 for two. What surprised me was the rather fancy ambiance--candles on the tables, dim lights--and their super friendly service. The waiters all say bye to you and hold the door open when you exit. I'll definitely keep Mount Everest in mind for an occasion warranting more than simple casual. Just thinking about it makes me salivate...

This beats Naan n' Curry and House of Curry anyday. The meat in the curry were not dry at all, and the naan bread were obviously fresh out of oven. I like the utensils they used too and the general lighting of the restaurent. I don't think you can ever order "wrong", because the six people i went with mostly ordered curry and they were all very tasty. Although i do recommend the chicken dishes, especially chicken korma and karahi and not the tandoori dishes

The food is decent. I'm not an expert on Indian food, but I do like it. The paneer could be cooked better. I think they over cook it and so it comes out chewy and a little tough. It shouldn't be too hard to cook paneer since the frozen dinners from Traders Joes are great. Anyway, I had them deliver twice. Both times they were an hour and a half late. The first time it happened, I thought it was just a fluke- hey it sometimes happens. The second time, it was awful. It said that it would take them 30min to deliver. I ordered at 7:42 (with email confirmation). By 8:30 I called to make sure they got my order. The guy said it would be another 20 min. I said okay. I called again at 9:15pm since it still hadn't arrived. The guy said that the driver has left so I should get it soon. I didn't get it until 9:50. Let me tell you, I was not hungry when I ordered. I was starving by the time they came. There is no excuse to be an hour and half late. Of course I'm going to think the food's good-I was so hungry I wouldn't be able to rationally taste it!

I was really impressed by this place and I am glad that we got a Groupon otherwise we would have never known about it. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and we followed the staff to our table. The atmosphere is really nice. They decorated the place well with candles and paintings, I think there may have been soothing music too and for a second you feel like you are outside of the U.S. You are served in copper pots, which is a great touch. It was so clean in here, unlike other places i've been to (house of curries for example, which i LOVE, but yes, it does feel a little dirty in there sometimes). There is a large selection of food, and many vegetarian options which I love! They even have brown rice, which is hard to find. They have keys on their menu for what is vegan, what is spicy, and what is good for kids. As others have mentioned, if you like your food actually SPICY get the "very spicy". The "medium spicy" was still spicy, but didn't have that powerful kick to it. I like it spicy but not overwhelming so I'll go with medium spicy next time. I got just "medium" and it didn't taste spicy to me much at all. Dr. Andrew ordered the Chicken Vindalo which he enjoyed. I ordered an eggplant dish which was pretty much mashed up eggplant, tomatoes, and onions. It was so good! I also noticed afterwards, and so did Dr. Andrew, that we felt full but not instantly lethargic/weighed down like we do when we eat at other indian restaurants. It was nice having less heavy ingredients and the portions were perfect. What really impressed us was the service! We had a young waitress who was fantastic. She took our order as soon as we were ready, the drinks and food came quickly, and she came by the table atleast 4 times to fill our water. Not to mention she came by once or twice just to check in and to ask how the food was. She was not rushing us at all, but instead was really ontop of everything! Also, the prices were good. It was like 7.99 for a curry and 2.50 for brown rice so my meal cost 11.00 dollars. Not bad... I look forward to coming back and trying more things on their menu!

I order from here frequently. The quality of the food is very good and the food always arrives relatively quick (for the bay area) and hot. I ate in the restaurant for the first time last weekend and it was a pleasant experience with friendly staff and a cozy space.

came here for the groupon deal. the waiter was nice enough to give us some introduction of the food, since I've never had Nepalis food. We had spinach potato, lamb in some sort of curry sauce (apparently the most popular dish), some sort of vegetarian soup, another appetizer dish, garlic naan and onion naan. Everything was great, especially the onion naan. will be back!

Mt. Everest is a new Nepali/Indian restaurant that opened up around the corner from where we live. My wife and I lost one of our favorite Indian Restaurants when Rice and Spice lost their lease and have been lost in Indian food limbo-land. My Wife being Indian and I do a lot of Indian food. we love Kabana, but you can't do Kabana every time. We have not found a decent replacement until Mt. Everest came. We have eaten there several times and every meal has been delicious. I have had several different lamb dishes; lamb chops, boti kabab, lamb curry, lamb biryani, all were absolutely delicious. I am a lamb chop addict and theirs are out of this world. Succulent and juicy, tasty masala , a perfect blend of heat and tangyness. So tender. Lamb curry with tender cubes of lamb in a wonderful curry. For you chicken tikka masala lovers, theirs is yummy for sure. I took nine friends there last night and they raved over it. (as well as everything else). The vegetable dishes I've had were all outstanding. Palak paneer, and mushroom saag (spinich dishes) both done well the perfect blend of flavor and texture. Shared it with four of my friends last night it disappeared in moments. Also the bengan bartha (eggplant) quite delightful. I Could not write a review without mentioning naan. Sorry you plain naan eaters but I always go for the garlic naan. To be fair, some several of the guests at our table last night were new to the Nepali indian cuisine scene, but the signature comments to the flat puffy, doughy, crispiness demonstrated the typical love affair so many new comers have with this delightful bread. For garlic naan lovers I can only write the comments of my friend Johnnie B, "Every time you go to a restaurant and order some kind of garlic bread or naan, I am amazed at what comes back. Usually some buttered bread with so little garlic you can't tell it's there. What's the matter with the people who make that? This place does it right." Boy do they. Garlic naan at Mt. Everest is smothered in diced garlic and cooked to perfection. Simply outstanding. Mt.Everest creates a new specials menu every month if you go in December they have a prawn dish (can't remember the name) but OMG is it good. Of course let's not forget the chai. Their masala tea is the first thing I order. have at least two cups every time. Let me close with this. Having an Indian wife it is safe to say that I am married to a hundred other Indians too.It is a very close family, even though they live in several different countries; the most significant two of course being India and England. Hence, I know Indian food. I don't wish to demean any of the other Indian restaurants in Berkeley as there are a few that are pretty good. Over all, Mt.Everest takes the cake. Their food is consistent. Their menu is large with plenty of dishes for meat lovers, as well as vegetarians. Several unusual dishes. And most of all, great staff, and great atmosphere. This is important because I think this is where many Indian/Nepali/Pakistani establishments drop the ball. With tip average person could expect to pay about fifteen dollars each. Every dollar will be well spent. E.

We went this place with a Groupon and were very impressed with both the ambiance and the food! I had a chickpea dish and my husband had a lamb curry. We both really enjoyed our dishes. We also shared some garlic naan which was fantastic!

I love this place more every time I go. I've never had anything here that wasn't totally delicious. I'm not really a regular a too many restaurants because I like to try new places, but I've been back here many times. I usually order off their monthly specials menu, since those dishes are really unique and different from your standard Indian fare. One of my favorite things on the regular menu, though, is the Mt. Everest herbal soup - it is SOOOOOO delicious! Contrary to what some reviews say, this is not just any Indian restaurant. They do standard Indian fare well, but their Nepalese dishes are out of this world. I will be a loyal customer for as long as they're in business.

Groupon introduced me to this restaurant. Price wise is great and here you could really find a good authentic Indian food. Service was good. The only thing though the lunch special size could have been bigger. I ordered lamb Saab and only got small pieces of meat. Taste wise is great. The waitress told me their version of spicy food is american spicy. But no way, it is wayy more spicy than what I could imagine. But it's good. I ordered goat dish for to go. The dish is great. So yeah I am happy customer

I've been in this place several times and have always enjoyed the food immensely. Also, they have a $6 corkage fee (which you really can't beat). Their wine prices are pretty reasonable anyway though. They have a nice mix of Indian and Nepali cuisine and their naan is awesome.

The exterior of Mount Everest leaves a little to be desired. Inside though, it's quite the classy and vaguely romantic place. I say vaguely romantic because I got shackled with another date that to all outward appearances was a date until we left and he shook my hand. But anyway, we are here to talk Mount Everest. We both went Nepali as we had never had cuisine from that country before. I had a goat curry and he got this chicken dish with grilled onions and peppers. His reminded us of Chili's, but the chicken was tender and had a good flavor to it. My goat curry was heavy on the goat, but low on the curry. I would have appreciate a bit more curry and got rice and naan to compliment it. The naan was superfluous because of the lack of liquid material to dip it in. Also, a single serving of rice would probably have served a group of two just fine (keep that in mind, folks). My other word of caution: don't try the beer. It's pretty tasteless. Sorry Indian Subcontinent. You cornered the market on rich and spicy flavors, but your beer is lacking. I'd come back here and try some of the Indian dishes.

I have eaten here about three times, and like the place. The food is not spectacular, but has been consistently good. Waiters are polite, prices are reasonable.

Delicious, soulful, made with love and care and does not leave you heavy and bloated -- they use less oil in their food. Also, their delivery is always hot and fresh -- though they do often use up to the full 60 minute allotment quoted for delivery time, the food always arrives piping hot and as tasty as when I order it in the restaurant for a sit-down meal

Such a great experience!!! The atmosphere is really chill and the waitresses are really nice! We (5 of us) had a delish meal for $66 dollars. and definitely felt full! Thank you sweet mountain ;)

I'm a big fan of these folks. I go in about once a week on my way to another appointment, and so far they've been just terrific. I've had the chai tea several times (so good!), the lamb biryani (really flavorful and tender), the paneer tikka masala (delicious, and clearly home-cooked rather than from a jar as at some other places), and the gulab jamun (soft and sweet without being overpowering and really good!). The service is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Bravo!

I've been here twice and both times the food has been really tasty, and the service has been spectacular. The first time I just stopped by on a whim. This time I had a groupon. The two of us ordered a Nepalese dish (I can't remember the name, but it was a lamb dish) and the obligatory chicken tikka masala along with the garlic naan, Nepalese lemonade, and chai tea. Both main dishes were good (I don't like lamb at all really and felt the meat was too tough, but my friend didn't mind). We shared everything, and there was just enough for the two for us. My friend said the lemonade just tastes like regular lemonade, and the chai tea was nothing spectacular. The bill came out to be about $35.

Moms had a Groupon and we were both impressed with this place. The service is 180 degrees from the snooty Indian guys you usually encounter. I ordered a chicken dish and naan and the waiter polietly pointed out that there was no sauce in the dish (hence nothing for the naan to soak up) so I ordered the goat from the Nepalese selections. Again, he was good enough to point out that there was skin and bone in the dish. It was fantastic, I ordered medium hot and it was perfectly spiced. Moms had lamb curry from the Indian menu and really liked it. The price is right, the place is clean and I hope they survive. I'll be back.

Good food. "Paneer matter" and the chicken tandoori were great, the lamb vindaloo was average. Tip for foreigners: if you plan to drink alchohol take your passport, they refused to accept our foreign id cards or drivers licences. Will definately go back.

I've been there 5 times and it just opened recently! The place has a nice peaceful ambience, reasonable service and great food. The food is just perfect, not too spicy not too bland. I usually order the lamb curry and I got my partner to try the the saag paneer that she absolutely loved!! Staff is very friendly and I would definitely eat there again :)

Food was pretty good, I had the chicken tika masala, which was slightly better than than house of curry's same dish, but the rice and naan are better there. Also this place is more expensive, but overall pretty good

Oh yes this place is amazing. So far we have only tried the naan, prawn rice, and chicken tikka masala. ALL OF IT WAS PERFECT. It is just soooo good, go eat here!

A little more expensive and less in your face filling as say Naan and curry, but far tastier. Their naan is among the best I've had in berkeley, it has a subtle honey like sweetness to it. Everything comes in 4 different spiciness options and is very flavorful. It's really only the price that keeps me from eating here all the time, since you have to order a few things to really get your fill when it comes to Indian food. I guess if I had a normal job it wouldn't be an issue.

This restaurant is amazing! Prior to giving this restaurant a try, I have never liked Indian food. After eating the Tikka Masala here, not only was I pleasantly surprised but I craved it. Since then, I've tried many things on the menu and love everything I eat. The prices are very reasonable, the staff is very, very welcoming and accommodating and I would definitely recommend the restaurant. I've taken co-workers since and they've loved it as much as I do!

So tasty!! I've had the tikka masala (some of the best i've ever had). Chai tea is good too. I have also had their great non-diary coconut milk dish, very delicious. It's good for vegetarians and vegans too -- went with a group of friends recently and we were all very satisfied. Staff is quiet but friendly, prices are great!

Delightful food, serene atmosphere, graceful service. Portions may not look very big, but are quite filling, several patrons were taking doggie bags today, so did we. The accent is on quality - everything is fresh and delicious.

3.5 stars if i could but I'll round up because they offer 20% off on their web site and free delivery, and they're open till 10pm. We went here after finding the restaurant on restaurant.com . This place had much better prices than the other Himalayan restaurant on restaurant.com , so we chose it. We had: Nepali garlic soup veg samosa veg pakora butter rice onion nann Lamb Dal Bhat Tarkari (lentils, green veg and lamb curry w/rice) Khasi Ko Masu (Goat meat) kheer mango lahsi Everything was delicious with a few minor exceptions. The garlic soup had a nice-tasting broth, but the veggies in it were obviously from a frozen bag of veggies (peas, carrots, green beans, like you get from the bag). That was a big turn off. The goat meat was really good but a bit salty for me. The butter rice was kinda pointless IMHO, since one of our meals came with rice already and they tasted about the same. The Lamb, Onion Naan and Veggie Samosa were fantastic. The lamb dish was very large and came with rice and dessert. Spicy level was just right (medium had a good kick to it) and the mago lahsi really hit the spot. The Gulab Jamun and Kheer were really delicious desserts. We had so much food left i'm eating it for lunch today! So one star off for that garlic soup fiasco, and one half off for the very slow service. We were the only ones in there most of the time and I felt service was very slow all around, but the staff was polite, price was good and the food was delish!

My friend and I were really craving indian food for several weeks, and finally planned out a night when we were both free... turned out to be 9 pm on a Thursday after a full day of classes so by the time we got there I was ready to eat all of India. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala as I always do when I go to any new INdian place. The serving came in a smallass bowl, but do not be deceived! it will leave you VERY full. The naan here is fantastic. I"m not too picky with my naan because I appreciate fluffy naan while i also enjoy thinner, crispier naan too, but this naan was a good in-between. the chicken tikka masala was also quite delicious. I don't know if it was because I was starving or because it is actually very good but by the time I looked up, my bowl was empty and I was one very full and satisfied camper. Also, there is a lot more chicken than you thinkn in that tinyass bowl. It was a very pleasant surprise. The chicken is also QUITE tender and juicy. I underestimated the amount of chicken so much though that by the end, i had more chicken in my bowl than curry which always sucks :( but very recommended!

Good food, on-time delivery. I like the momos at Himalayan Flavors slightly better (especially because they have lamb, not chicken and they come with the red kind of sauce), but this place packs the momos so they are not squishy and soggy when they arrive by delivery. So if I had to choose, I'm not sure I'd be able to. Yummier, squishy momos with red sauce or less yummy not squishy momos with brown sauce? I guess the decision is personal.

Visited at lunch, after looking on Yelp for a good and unusual spot in Berkeley. We came late to lunch (2:00pm) and there were a number of patrons there. Great service with strong suggestions after asking about our food desires (both Nepal and India fare). Like fresh and home made, cooked to order, not pre-prepared. The Tandor Chicken was the best I've tasted, with garlic-infused naan. Will be back soon!

I suppose I might be a bit biased since this place is within walking distance from my house... so it makes for really convenient take-out. But in truth, I have been searching for my favorite Indian restaurant in the East Bay since I moved here almost 5 years ago and have been foiled time and again. This place was pretty terrible under the last ownership, like so many other South Asian restaurants this close to campus. I gave it another try when the name changed and boy am I glad! I have found my favorite Indian spot and it just *happens* to be right around the corner! Food is great, prices are fair, service is super super friendly. They even give you free chai while you wait for your take-out order! Yay!

We stopped in here last night with an old gift certificate. We'd never been here, and so we had no idea that they had changed ownership. They still honored it and were very nice about it. All of the staff were friendly and chatted with us. We had three dishes and an appetizer. I am in love with the Chhoilla, and even ordered an extra order to take home (I made couscous and they were wonderful together!). We also had lamb boti kebab (which was also fantastic!), and I think we ordered the Malai Kofta (it had potatoes in it). I judge a place like this by how fatty their lamb is, and whether their potatoes taste like they are canned, and I am pleased to say the lamb was perfect and the potatoes were full of flavor. I will be coming back here again and again. It is a bit of a drive for me, but it is both worth it and right next to the places I go to in Berkeley anyway!

Not a bad restaurant but the food can be less stale. The service is very nice and friendly. The lunch special may be cheaper, but the quality isn't as good.

I went here on a date and I have to say the food was amazing. The atmosphere is lovely at night - candles on each table, dim lights, curtains - but is casual enough for families and friends, and not to mention inexpensive as well. Samosas are an excellent appetizer - crispy, vegetable-and-spice-filled dumplings, they come in a pair with plum and lime/cilantro dipping sauces. Naan here is about average (read: a good thing!), but definitely go for the garlic version - it's seasoned perfectly. Unfortunately, our basmati rice was a tad dry. We ordered three main dishes; all were excellent - I most recommend the Malai Kofta (veggies and baked potatoes with a mild nut/herb cream sauce). Our waitress was wonderful and was eager to box our leftovers and describe the different dishes to us; however, I felt we were checked on a little too often. (Although I'm sure more finicky diners will be A-OK with this!) Also - this place is very vegetarian friendly, and I'm told their poultry is organic. A plus for me as a conscious eater! Another note - degree of spiciness at Indian restaurants tends to have no rhyme or reason, so I'll have you know that the definition of 'medium' at this place is actually a bit less spicy than average. Overall a gem of a place! I will be returning. UPDATE 2/12: I dropped in again; this time we were kept waiting a little long (although I'll assume maybe it was a busy night...?) and had trouble hearing and understanding the waiters again.
