This restaurant used to by my favoriate Thai place in Berkeley. However, it seems like the tough times are really showing because this place has really decreased in quality. I have ordered the Pad Thai and the Pad See Ew in the past and they were fantastic. However, nowadays I can really taste the restaurant cutting corners with the ingredients. The noodles are really, really overcooked and mushy. The food is not as flavorful or as delicious as it used to be. The Thai Iced Tea is still good, but they didn't even bother mixing the milk when they gave it to me the last time I came by.

Berkeley Thai House is one of the better Thai restaurants in the Berkeley area. Although dishes are a little more expensive compared to other restaurants, the food is definitely of better quality and is totally worth the price. Meals are designed to be sit-down and include dishes that are shared. You can also order dishes for yourself. One that I would HIGHLY recommend is the Garlic Pepper Pork! I've heard so many amazing things about this dish, and the dish even surpassed my expectations upon tasting it. The pork reminds me of KBBQ-style ribs, except served with sauce on the side and not nearly as oily. This is a dish you just HAVE to try if you ever stop by here. I also tried the Pad See-Ew, a noodle dish with meat and vegetables. The noodles were extremely flavorful, but I felt that the beef was a little bit overcooked. I also ordered the Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream. I've had better fried banana, but the coconut ice cream makes up for it. The ice cream contains little chunks of coconut that blend perfectly with the taste of the ice cream.

So maybe I'm picky because I used to live in South East Asia, but I feel I've become aware of what good "American" Thai food is. Ugh. Have been here several times because everyone on campus likes it, and I really don't. Their pad Thai and curries are far too sweet, even for Thai curries. It's not the right balance at all. Their Thai beef noodle soup is way too salty. Their pineapple fried rice isn't bad, but I really don't remember it being that great either. The thing that keeps me coming back is the waitstaff. I always come with a million people and they always gladly accommodate us.

Here was our order for a party of 6 adults: * appetizer: stuffed chicken wings - apparently they're famous for this. It was stuffed with some rice, vermicelli, veggies. It was alright. I wouldn't get it again. * appetizer: tofu tod - really yummy, especially w/ the glaze sauce. * garlic pepper pork - kind of like thai barbecue. * param long song (beef) - tender, although the sauce a bit too peanut-y * basil prawns * pumpkin curry - sweet, and not bad. * eggplant tofu - oldie but a goodie. This was tasty. Service is very pleasant and attentive. Portions are a bit small, so the general rule of thumb (1 dish per person) doesn't quite work out. Might need 1.3 or 1.5 dishes per person. Tastes good though. We didn't order fried bananas this time around b/c we had a lo-sugar cadre in our dinner party, but that's a surefire winner.

Ordered shrimp pad se-ew. Got seated quickly on a weekday afternoon. It soon got very busy after 1. Food came fast, portions are so small!!!! I was not full what so ever. $8-9 for a small dish? Not coming back. The pad se-ew was too flavorful, as in too salty. It was smothered with sauce and I had to keep driving water, probably 3 refills. Overall, it's ok.

Lunch will run you $11, all told. Are you a Cal undergrad who wants Thai food, but doesn't know any better? What's that, you're poor? And you live in the Southside dorms? Well, I've got the place for you to round out your freshman 15. Thai house--go nuts. I love the location. It's just barely far enough away from campus and Telegraph to be reasonably peaceful, yet convenient. I love the interior. Most Thai restaurants have a serious IKEA feel to them, but the beaten up chairs, weather-damaged wood, and sculptures here are quite endearing. I love the service. They're typically very attentive and warm. When the food comes out, however, Juliet picks up the dagger and my tragic romance with Thai House ends. I wish I could give more stars, but the food is really that poor. It isn't bad in that it tastes offensive. In fact, it barely tastes at all. For some of the most vibrantly flavorful cuisine on the planet, they do a phenomenal job of making the dishes incredibly boring here. For locals, I'd describe it as the Thai analog of Naan N' Curry or House of Curries. From the lack/separation of flavor, it is clear that the spices aren't worked up properly and that Protein A is added to Sauce B and Sidedish C from separate, pre-fabbed pots in the course of 5 minutes. O, Berkeley Thai House, you have my heart! If only your food was good, you'd have my wallet too. Nearest reasonable alternatives: Lucky House Thai or Dara.

I prefer to hit this place up opposed to Thai Basil. Tried this place for dinner with my friend last Friday. The weather was nice, so we sat outside. Lots of outside seating for those warm days. I ordered the Pad Thai, which was pretty good, and my friend had the Pad See Ew. I love Thai stuffed chicken wings, so we ordered that as an appetizer. Wasn't too impressed with it though. It was deep fried as it should be, but I prefer a breaded then deep fried version. Plus, the filling was really bland, so I had to load up on the sauce, which was super sweet.... the prices aren't too bad...one plate of noodles gave me about 2 meals.

Tasty food, and quick service. Likely the best Thai place in Berkeley, with a cheery atmosphere and cool ambiance.. A-OK. We were in a huge hurry (like ordered & ate in 25 minutes) so couldn't savor the food or experience, which was our fault. Had pad-sew, which was good and some grilled beef dish (also good but meaty). Frankly, we should have ordered more veggies or papay salad- but the experience and food were good.

My first time to Thai House was almost two weeks ago and overall it wasn't such a bad experience. I give it 3 stars. Here's why: I ordered the Roast Duck. It came cut in a decent number of rectangular slices on top of some boiled vegetables (I think cabbage?) and it tasted pretty good. It was savory. There was a side of rice and some spicy soy sauce for dipping. The sauce was okay, but I prefer to dip my roast duck in a honey sauce. My best friend ordered garlic pepper pork and I had some. Very, very good. His dish came with a honey dipping sauce (which I used with my duck). I'll probably order my own garlic pepper pork in the future. His cousin ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with Prawns and I really wanted to try some but didn't want to look like a pig. It came in a big fish-shaped bowl with large chunks of pineapple and with these prawns that were gigantic. I was expecting little shrimps that most restaurants try to pass off as "prawns". So, some time during the dinner someone from our table found a dead bug in the glass of water and he had been drinking from it for awhile now. He was kinda grossed out and a bit upset, and asked the waitress for a new glass. The waitress promptly got a new glass of water for him and awhile later a supervisor type person came out and made small talk; asking us how the food is and being friendly. It was obviously a PR move to save face, but the gesture meant he cared enough to come out. Also, it meant the waitress felt the need to report it to her supervisor. That shows a responsible attitude. Not bad. I realized why there was a bug in the water in the first place. They pre-pour the water into glasses when they're not busy, and let them sit next to the entrance until new customers come in. Part of it is bad luck that it happened, I guess.

I came here once before and it was great. Just went back for dinner, and it wasn't all that great. I got a noodle dish that was pretty darn good (and I'm sorry, for the life of me I can't remember what it was called... though it ended with "Mau"). The boyfriend got the beef in peanut sauce. I didn't like it, but I don't like peanuts. So don't listen to me. He's had beef in peanut sauce before, and he said that theirs was awfully sweet and molasses-y tasting. We ordered the fried banana with fried ice cream for dessert (don't judge!). It was listed as a single dessert. We ate it, it was awesome... until we got the check and noticed it was near $9 for the dessert. When we pointed to the menu price of the whole dessert for $4.25, they said that it was actually 2 separate desserts (hence, the $9). That alone, was not cool at all.

Great lunch special. $7.95 for lots-o-food. The green garlicky salad dressing is a delight. The pumpkin "shrimps" was very good and thick, though the pumpkin was a tad mushy. I loved eating outdoors -- the setting is great!
