Let me take this time to educate. I've been here since 1995 and someone educated me way back then and it's time to pass the learning on.... Order right now the southeast Asian sandwich. You might be asking what that is.... Well here ya go... The French invaded Vietnam in 1887 and with the French came the baguette. The Vietnamese put their twist, chili, pickled carrot, daikon radish to create what is know as the banh mi. Here is how I order it- Dutch crunch Cheese and avocado Cheddar And ALL THE TOPPINGS!!!!!!! Learn from the master. 20 year veteran

I like coming here for a sandwich on the go. I can't emphasize how valuable it is when someone makes a fully-loaded sandwich with the care and delicacy that this place does. 4 stars because they included a disco light in the evening that just kills me. This place gets intense during bar hours, but I just stand outside where I can at least breathe.

Don's Donuts is the quintessential Arcata spot. In Arcata we take a few things seriously, and two of them are donuts and pizza. This place combines the majesty of pizza and donuts into one small establishment. Their pizza beats the pants off of Dutchy's in both quality and price. If you're from out of town, you are legally obligated to go there and enjoy yourself. It's open 24-hours, SO THERE ARE NO EXCUSES! Get yourself in there, eat a delicious slice of pizza, buy a couple of donuts, sip a coffee, and then watch all the weird characters that come in there. All sorts of funky street people stop in, any artists playing next door at Jambalaya or Humbrews will swing by too. The later you are there, the more chaotic it can be. Weekdays during business hours are totally tame, but weekends after the bars close are pretty crazy. "Don's Donuts: Come for the drunchies, stay for the people watching"

I love this place, late at night there is a line out the door, it usually moves pretty fast and is worth the waite. Great company in line with an interesting assortment of folks to talk to. The pizza bagels are my favorite, you can fill out a slip to pick your toppings. I always grab a box of dougnuts for everyone at work. I love the old fashioned doughnuts!

  • A C.

I rarely get donuts...I prefer the eggrolls. They have pork and vegetable. An amazing sauce too...We also love the spicy chicken pizza. Definitely an Arcata classic. Can't wait to return with my love

  • Ben H.

Transients muttering obscenities, passed out on the benches, or trying to get customers to buy them coffee combined with quality donuts, pizza, and sandwiches served by a staff composed of either high school kids on their phones or elderly folks who are nearly deaf. That basically sums it up.

LATE NIGHT DOUGHNUTS... I've made this mistake numerous times... and i don't regret it.. automatic 5 out of 5 rating,,, 5/5

I usually LOVE eating here. The South-East Sandwich is amazing...every time. The pizza on the other hand...not so much. Every other time I eat Don's Pizza (about once or twice a month) the crust is always crunchy, and the toppings cooked to perfection. The dough is often not cooked all the way through, mushy, and chalky. NO, THANK YOU!!! I ended up scraping all of the toppings off and eating them alone. If I only wanted melted cheese with pepperoni slices tossed in, I would make a dip at home and eat it with a bagel. :( Also, I find it really unpleasant that as soon as you walk out you are bombarded by homeless people loitering out front asking for a slice of the pizza that is supposed to feed ME for the next two days! I'm poor, too, dude! I suggest that Don's should probably take action against this issue. Or maybe APD?

It's hard to turn down a late night indulgent snack (donuts!). But, every time I come here, whether it's 10pm or 7am, the donuts taste stale. I brought it up to the cashier one evening and he yelled at me that they weren't stale and wouldn't give me my money back. Since then, I've never come back. I know the drunk crowd stumbles over here early in the morning and loves it because they are so drunk it doesn't really matter if it is good or not, but I know better. I've seen the cashiers take drunk people's money and put their change in the tip jar as a kick back to themselves for dealing with them. This may be the only donut place in Arcata and the only one in HumCo that's 24 hours, but if you want quality donuts, go to Eureka. Donuts may be cheap, but don't waste any $ at Don's. The homeless/transients parked out front don't do this place any favors either, whatsoever.

YES and here's why: - They're open 24/7 - Their greek pizza slice is oh-so-delicious - As is their apple cinnamon roll pastry - AND their Chicken BBQ Banh-Mi sandwich! - What else are you gonna do at 3am, study? Take a break!

Don's, the institute, the legend, the mainstay of Arcata's downtown. I don't know when this place opened but it's been around for at least 20 years I think. Everyone love's Don's. I don't think anyone knows who Don is, but that's another story. If you spend even 5 minutes in Arcata you should acquaint yourself with this place. If you're used to fancy places like Krispy Kreme don't be fooled by it's humble appearances. Parking is a bit unreliable in the immediate area, but if you're willing to walk a half block or so it's usually not hard to find somewhere. Over the years they have expanded their offerings, which have always been high quality. I don't even try to keep up with the menu now, I just know what I like. Two of my favorite things are the South East Asian sandwiches and the raspberry Danishes, both of which have been absolutely perfect, every time, for over a decade in my experience. You could order a sandwich at 2 am and it will be as good as 2 pm sandwich. It's a family run business I believe, and it shows in the overall consistent quality. It's one of the few places in town that I truly miss when they close for vacation or holidays. Everyone love's Don's, and you can see so many different people here. Late weekend nights they pick up a lot of bar closing traffic, and they play clubby music with some lights going, people eating, hanging out, having a good time. It's always interesting there, sometimes old folks reading newspapers in the morning and office types getting the pink boxes to go. I really can't say enough good about this place.

So damn good! 3verything here is awesome! Any thing from Bagels and cream cheese to cure a hang over to a drunken slice of spicy chicken masterpiece(or even the hawaiian) after a good night of binge drinking along with some donuts for the drunken stammer home! Try the southeast asian sandwhich (bon mi) or get a hot turkey!!! Yum yum yum!!!! DONUT HOLES!!!!!! Downsides are tons of homeless nutzos.... But I font care this place is killer! People who work there are great and put up with a ton of crap from us drunkies! Open 24 hrs whoot whoot!

  • Cliff G.

The food is pretty good. I like the egg rolls (which they are usually out of when I've visited). The reason I now avoid this place is because of hand hygiene issue. I've seen more than one employee go from cleaning and mopping the floor to preparing food without washing their hands. Yuck!

    (2)
  • Jackson H.

Love their Southeast Asian Sandwiches, they are amazing!!! The eggrolls are freaking delicious and are well priced. The pizza and donuts are great too!!

    (5)
  • Ryan J.

Everything was great about this place. I have never had donuts that were so fluffy and fresh. They completely blew Krispy Kreme out of the water. My donut standards have been raised to a whole new level now! Normally when serving so many things from donuts to pizzas to eggrolls... something has to give. But not at this place! There is a perfect amount of creativity and flavor in each menu item. I would definitely come back again!

We spent 4 days in Arcata on a family vacation and went here 3 times! The first time was late on a Sunday night when most places were closed and we needed to feed our three kids. They love pizza and who doesn't love donuts. The reviews brought us here, and I bet if I had not read the reviews I would have stayed away if I walked by the place! We looked a tad out of place, a middle-aged family with three kids walking in to this rather sketchy looking place with HSU students and some not-so-savory looking folks hanging about. We come from Sebastopol, which I thought was more liberal than Berkeley until we came to Arcata! (A definite Clark Griswold moment) I ordered the "Asian Sandwich" which I assumed rightly was a version of a Vietnamese Banh Mi. It was really good with the right balance of hot and tangy, chewy bread and crunchy toppings. The kids ordered pizzas (Pesto and bbq chicken) and we had an appetizer of donut holes and a desert of other donuts! What?, we were on vacation! Their pizza dough is light and airy like donut dough, which is nice. I am not a huge fan of raised glazed donuts, but Don's made me a convert. Their other donuts, while not fancy, are done right and cheap! And they are open 24 hours!

Get the ham and cheese croissant. Also got the spicy chicken pizza which was excellent. I hear they have wings, vc sammiches and the donuts smelt ridiculous. Great post or mid bar food session.

When you need some late night grub, Don's is the place! Pizza by the slice or the whole pie, they've got it. Donuts(tons) & donut holes and muffins galore. Sandwiches, soda, coffee & teas all served late nite! BFF and I both got the ham & cheddar cheese filled croissant. Super flakey and buttery, perfect to soak up those few Lost Coast beers! Ham was nice & thick. Our DD had a slice of the chicken pizza. He raved to us girls that we shoulda had that! It looked pretty good with the ingredients looking fresh and it was a decent sized slice! We also got 2dozen donut holes to -go. They didn't last long, as the plan was to save them for morning for the kiddos. There were 4 left in am!!!! Hahaha! One for each kid!! Holes were addicting!! Light & airy and coated with glaze...couldn't stop reaching into the bag!! Friendly staff, they were super busy at 1am! So we had a bit of a wait, no worries. Not many places to sit inside but we found a few window bar stools. Prices were decent. Thanks Don's for being open 24/7!!!

Best doughnuts in Humboldt County. Come by after 11 and the doughnuts are fresh made. So tasty. Absolute must have!

  • Chris R.

Came here because it was one of the only places open past 10:00 P.M. in this town. Since I've been here, all I hear about is this "great" pizza place. I went last night with some friends and ordered a large meat lovers pizza. Aside from a somewhat decent crust, this had to be one of the worst pizzas that I've had. It tasted very similar to a DiGiorno pizza. Very overrated. I think I'll pass next time.

  • Mena X.

Been coming here for years. Pizza, southeast Asian sandwich and the donuts....yummmmmm! What are you waiting for, go get yourself something to eat there!

  • Ivy M.

I love dons. I love their pizza, I love their donuts, I love their "good in a cheap way" hot chocolate, I even love their bagels. I love that when I eat half my bagel then drop the other one they make me a whole new bagel no charge. I do not love the newer guy that works there and for some reason will acknowledge my boyfriend and I, then help people who come in after us. This has happened multiple times and once it took ten minutes before he got my boyfriend his donut because he was helping THREE people who came in after us. I give him no stars.

    (4)
  • Sarah S.

Amaze balls! Just ate the chicken masterpiece pizza and it took a while to get our pizza but well worth the wait. The best pizza I've had in a long time and I eat pizza 4 or 5 times a month. Open 24/7 yummy,

  • Ray F.

Great hole in the wall donut shop in downtown - eclectic crowd and an old school donut shop that also does pizza by the slice. The plain buttermilk donuts are great!

    (4)
  • Melissa J.

I have only had donuts from here, but they are sooooo yummy! Delicious chocolate frosting that definitely tastes like they made it and didn't just use whatever it is that Safeway buys and has shipped in, bleh! No, the stuff at Don's is GOOD!

    (4)
  • Jamie D.

The spicy chicken master piece pizza is a master piece and the doughnuts are always fresh and delicious. I do not enjoy the messy tables and all the flies buzzing around, other than that Dons is great.

    (3)
  • Genevieve M.

I can only comment on the donuts, and those are just freaking amazing! Service is fast unless you come in at night when the bars are open... Nothing fancy, but right downtown when you need it.

    (5)
  • Michael L.

DOUGHNUTS: First off, this is technically a donut shop so they get 5 stars because their donuts are the best in the county! Donut holes are the best I have ever had in my life! I'm a fat guy - so trust me when I say I know my donut holes! PIZZA: Spicy chicken Masterpiece is worth $24 for a XL. By the slice, it's hit or miss. Sometimes they re-bake it and it tastes fresh, other times it's a little soggy. If you're coming here post bars at 1:30am, the pizza tastes amazing! SERVICE: These guys put up with a lot of drunk, stupid, and smelly people. Tip them! They serve everyone quickly and with awesome service. BAD FOOD: Hot Wings - They are out of a Tyson knockoff freezer bag and mine had freezer burn! Sauce sucks and they are not deep fried like a wing should be. Egg Rolls are expensive and not worth it! CREDIT CARD: Spend $5+

  • Lisa C.

How can you not love the idea of pizza and donuts combined!? The old fashioned or the buttermilk are great and the best part is the location. Right next to bar row so after a night of stupid who can resist the tempting rolls of goodness. Simple atmosphere and great seats at the window to watch the drunks at night..classic.

Dons is awesome. One of my favorite spots to get pizza. Spicy chicken masterpiece is my favorite! Great price and great place to hang out and watch all the crazies come through.

Went here a few times during a visit to Arcata. This place is open 24 hours. It has donuts, pizza, sandwiches, etc! I enjoyed the donuts for breakfast. And I love a sandwich on the dutch crunch roll. The bread is good. And there is a lot of flavor in the sandwich itself.

    (5)
  • Melody I.

So far I have had donuts twice here, a sandwich once and pizza about five times. I have not been disappointed and what I get usually hits the target on what I was looking for. My bf loves their pizza, especially the spicy chicken masterpiece. I have also tried their curry pizza, Mediterranean and veggie one.

  • Angela P.

One of the few places open late in Arcata. Perfect for sobering up after a night at the bars. Shady people usually hang in or outside this place, just ignore them and focus on the prize, donuts! They also have decent pizza, bagels, and egg rolls. Yeah, their egg rolls are to die for! Sometimes I come here just for them. They have a limit on debit cards and put up with a lot of crap from drunk idiots so give them tips!

Ahm hea fo donuts. Now, donuts, I likes ya....and I wants ya. Now....we can eitha do this tha easy way.....oa the haard way. So what's it gonna be? Nah, nah, ah see you choosin' the haard way. OMNOMNOM. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because eating multiple iced, powdered, and/or custard-filled lumps of sugary fried dough is for some reason not conducive to recovering from a cold. If they could somehow work that into the equation then they would be flawless. However, since a 4-star review is pretty much my version of a 5-star, I definitely dig the place. Did I mention they have donuts? Their jelly filling is actually somewhat jelly-like, and their custard is actually custard, as opposed to the standard flavored gel used by most places that have filled doughnuts. Aside from this, they've got decent pizza, bagels, pizza bagels, Vietnamese sandwiches, and a fair assortment of drinks to go along with it. The pizza is by no means anything that will make you take off your clothes and run naked in the streets in euphoric ecstasy, unless of course they have some option topped with cocaine and ecstasy that I missed on the menu, but it's definitely better than what you can get at standard chains, or find rotating under a heat lamp at a local gas station. It may not sound like that's saying much, but if for some reason you actually want pizza at 3am, you could do much, much worse. I don't think they do all of their specialties by-the-slice, but they do sell a few basic varieties that way, so points for not having to buy a whole pizza to satisfy your cravings. I haven't tried any of their bagels, but I've heard rave reviews about the pizza bagels. They've also got the most authentic Vietnamese sandwiches I've come across in Humboldt County, and yes I've tried J&Z. A plus about their sandwiches is that you can fill out one of the standard sandwich construction slips and decide what ingredients you want, so if you're in the mood for something that deviates from the norm, you're welcome to request it, and it's nice to have that option. Seating gets sparse if you're in there late at night, especially within an hour or two of last-call at the bars, because it gets predictably invaded by people who are in various stages of drunkenness. I've never been mistreated by the people working at the register, but in most cases I'd opt to give them a break when imagining the bullshit that one might have to deal with on a nightly basis when dealing with a bunch of sloshed fools, some of who will inevitably decide that 2:15am at Don's Donuts & Deli is the perfect time and place to let the world know that THEY KEEPS IT REAL, SON, before barfing on a table and passing out or whatever. This is not a place to visit regularly if you like to, you know, be "healthy". But the unique array of comfort food that they offer is a perfect alternative for sudden cravings that do not involve fried potatoes, ground beef patties, or burritos. Note that if you use a credit card, you need to buy at least $5 worth of stuff.

Pizza and donuts at 1 in the morning after a show or party? Yes, please! This place has yummy food and it's so convenient that they're open all the time.

  • Mary C.

Specifically went for the South East Asian sandwiches. I ordered the smoked turkey, pepper jack cheese on Dutch crunch bread with the works. My husband got his with pepperoni and cheddar instead of turkey and jack. My only complaint -- and it's minor -- is I would've preferred more chili sauce and maybe a sprinkling of the pickling liquid used to flavor the shredded carrots and daikon. The veggies were fresh and fabulous! Wish they had this in Hawaii!

This is an Arcata Institution. Open 24 hrs (rare for Arcata) and super close to the bars and plaza makes this a very popular place. The prices are near unbeatable as well. They have the best donuts i have ever had, and the "Spicy Chicken Masterpiece" is one of the best tasting pizzas ever. They also have custom pizza bagels that mimic large bagel bites. They also have sandwiches, but i haven't tried them yet. I have some criticism, but not enough to drop it down to 4 stars. The fact that it is so popular and cheap brings many of Arcata's bums and hippies there which can be annoying. There have also been several times where the cashier was very rude. Drug deals can sometimes be witnessed outside as well. Overall, Go here. Get a piece of spicy Chick Masterpiece, grab a maple cinnamon roll donut, and enjoy the show of bums and weirdos walking the streets of Arcata.

One of Arcata's finest healthy restaurants. To say that Don's Donuts & Deli is the best "option" for all the party people in the Arcata is not completely accurate when you understand federal and state and the real world consequences of driving drunk. They are one of the only if not one of the few options that we have to eat at night after the bars or after a party. Having said that there fucking food is still very good. If you don't mind super long lines and potentially getting in a fight or sexually molested you are going to enjoy Don's but hey don't take my stupid word for it go ask somebody. fuck yeah donuts and pizza.

The Donuts: when they are fresh, they are very very good, but when they are old they are boring. But don't let old donuts stop you from enjoying this place, their southeast asian sammies are AMAZING.

I LOVE Don's pizza! Spicy chicken masterpiece is a must-have and their donuts are awesomeee Pizza is TASTY unlike other places around here lol, and I can't complain they serve pizza til 4am!

I've been wanting to write a review about this place for a while, and now I really want to because I just had a bad experience with a competing pizza place, and I have to say that if you're looking for pizza, this is the place to go. It's well worth it to wade through the homeless people who like to stand out front and let their dogs piss on the sidewalk right at the entrance. Really. Everything from the donuts, to the sandwiches, to the pizza, is delicious.

Oh my! Pizza and doughnuts! My life is complete! Okay, not really... but if you're craving fresh doughnuts and super good pizza, you gotta check out Don's. There are little stools where you can feast on your purchase right in front of the window and people watch. Arcata is pretty colorful when it comes to all kinds of people, so grab a seat and enjoy people watching. Tasty, tasty food!

Dropped by here after "Pint Night" at Toby & Jacks. We basically wanted to get some alcohol sponges into our bellies for the night. Now Don's is THE place for donuts, but this night, we went for their pizza. They offer it by the slice (and the slices are monster!). I can't remember the types of pizza we had, but they had chicken and one of them was hella-spicy!! (and YUMMY). I see they also make Curry Chicken Pizza---I SO want to try this some day. Of course, we did get a few donuts as well, and they were pretty choice. Oh, I also went ahead and bought a Don's Donut T-shirt (man, I went out on stimulating this place's economy---Don's Must Never Leave Arcata!). It's crazy how some of the same employees are here from when I used to go here as a college student (in another life). The servers here are super nice. Every town should have a place to call Don's.

Totally dig this place, 24 hours, right down the street from the nightlife...I swear it makes me so happy. They have great good and even though the employees have to deal with all the crazy drunk people, they still treat you nicely . Great job guys, keep up the good customer service and the awesome grub.

The Southeast Asian sandwiches here are INCREDIBLE. So good that I have never branched out. The rolls are super fresh (I love the dutch crunch) as are the vegetables (pickled carrots + daikon, jalapenos, cilantro, onions). I usually get the BBQ chicken for my meat but the smoked turkey is also great. I get the hot/sweet chili sauce on it, too. Don's is usually busy day + night and people seem to love their donuts + pizza, too. 1 star off as they could keep the place a little more clean but understandable given the hours, etc. Super nice staff!

LEGIT. 24 hours a day. specialty pizzas from 11am to 4 am. i had the spicy chicken masterpiece. 4 times in 2 days. best part of all, you can eat your delicious donuts while you wait for your delicious pizza.

  • Jeanette D.

I had the south asian sandwich with avocado and otherwise dairy free. It was very good and fresh tasting. I was happy to find a dairy & soy free option when everything in town was closed (after 11pm). Others in my group had a pizza bagel, a pizza and a buttermilk donut. Everything was lauded and the buttermilk donut was considered extra special. This place is great for people watching too.

Nobody beats Don's. hot and fresh donuts at all hours.

I remember this 24-hour donut place from my college days. Sooooo good. I guess now they have deli options, but I can't speak to that, since I've never sampled that menu. This is one of those places I miss from Arcata!

  • kiely c.

It's absolutely insane that in a town with so many pizza options that Don's would have my favorite. To be specific, the Spicy Gourmet Chicken is so freakin' good. Love their Asian sandwiches on a croissant as well.

Checked this place out after my brother graduated from HSU a couple years ago. WOOHOO! Go Will! Anyway, I had just recovered from some food poisoning and this was the first thing I had to eat after that. AND BOY WAS I HAPPY. I ate one of those bagel sandwich thingies and it was probably the best thing I ever ate. It might have been because I was I was happy to finally keep some food down, but damnit, I've been craving some Don's ever since. The only reason I don't give the place five stars is because the staff didn't seem very friendly at the time. I guess they just expected me to know how everything worked and not have any kinds of questions about their food. Bottom line: Get on of those bagel sandwich thingies, you wont regret it. Best thing I ever ate.

I've been here drunk and I've been here sober, but the pizza is delicious either way. The Spicy Chicken Masterpiece is just that, a masterpiece. I lived in Arcata while attendning HSU and I've yearned for some Dons every since I moved back to the bay. The service is definitely a weak spot, but I guess I'd be annoyed if I dealt with drunk college kids on a daily basis. Nonetheless, this is hands down the best pizza I've had. The donuts are also pretty good. I will plan a trip back to Arcata just so I can get some Dons in the near future! Try this place!

  • Mel C.

Service is horrible but the chicken pizza is so good that they get 5 stars!!! Moved to Chico from Eureka and oh how I miss the nights of getting some yummy yogurt from Ultimate Yogurt and then getting some delicious pizza from Don's. Yummmm!

Don's is a must stop in Arcata. Whether you're drinking at the bars, or just want something fattening and filling after a long day's hike, Don's is the place to go. The donuts are amazing, the pizza is tasty and the service is always smiling. You might have to wait in line (sometimes going out the door) but it is always worth it in the end. Plus it makes for a great place to people-watch!

    (5)
  • Aaron M.

Great donuts yeah sure, but the Southeast Asian sandwiches are Don's secret weapon. Some call them Vietnamese sandwiches, those in-the-know call them Banh Mi, I call them delicious. The lightly pickled carrots, the daikon radish, the super soft fresh French bread... these sammiches will fill a craving you didn't even know you had. But you'll be back for more. Know why? Because they're AWESOME.

    (5)
  • Erin Y.

Forget the donuts; if you must have sweets go with pastry. Pizza is decent late night munch material. The real attraction here is the Asian 'sanwich'. DO not spend another day without one! Many tout the soft roll, but Dutch crunch kills. Many have complained of the crowds of homeless plazoids. It is Arcata, yo. And right off the plaza. Consider it local color and quit being so snobby, dang. One caveat: keep eyes on sidewalk to avoid vomit piles after about 11pm. But do not let that deter you!

    (5)
  • Eric G.

Don's donuts is the premier food establishment in Arcata, CA. Trust me. Open twenty-four hours a day with great food and donuts...what more could a college kid going to HSU want? On top of everything, the employees and local hippies create an fun atmosphere to entertain you while you chow down on their delicious food.

  • Sophia M.

Recently returned to Arcata for a mini-college reunion and knew I had to stop in to Don's for a donut like the old times. Of course, this time it was 5 in the afternoon, not 2 AM with a killer buzz going on after a night of drinking. Upon entering, I quickly realized Don's has stepped up to the next level. Not just donuts any more, but DELICIOUS pizzas, some ice cream and also bagels. This place still rocks. Keep up the great work!

the place to eat when exiting the bars or ending the night. 24/7 these guys work their shop to the fullest.

  • David B.

After all the raving I saw on Yelp, I ordered a curry chicken pizza for my girlfriend and I. I've had Indian flavored pizza in the past and love it, but this recipe just didn't taste all that good. The chicken was kind of gristly and the veggies just didn't match the texture. We also bought some donuts when we were there, though, and those were good. Especially the artery clogging buttermilk kind.

    (3)
  • Jacqui H.

Pizza bagel at any level of drunkenness any time of the day, thats all I have to say.

    (4)
  • Kaj B.

A late night option for pizza, bagels, and "southeast Asian" sandwiches. The pizza is greasy and meaty, and the donuts are artery-cloggingly fattening and sweet. In my opinion, it's a bit overpriced and the food isn't that great, though it is a good place to people watch.

  • Adina F.

I debated over 1 or 2 stars. My donut (cake with nuts) was ok. Nothing to go back for but I finished it. My husbands (old fashioned maple) is still in the glove box. It was at least 2 days old. So stale. We don't throw much away but this will go to the seagulls. And they were not very friendly. Would not go back.

  • Melissa L.

its pretty brilliant putting a 24 hour donut shop right by all the bars so all of us drunk college students can stumble in after they close. To be honest, I dont' really remember the donuts. All I remember is the smell of them cooking as we wandered the streets of Arcata looking for somewhere to eat at 2 in the morning.....

    (4)
  • Mitchell M.

So this place is like a magnet for the crazies of Arcata, which is like everyone. Theres a guy who frequents it who raps in a Smegle voice. Also, I've gotten shoved a couple times by people who thought I was their bro, but they were just drunk as fuck. A decent place early on a weekday, but avoid it late on a weekend.

    (2)
  • howard h.

Pizza bagel. They have this south Asian delight pizza bagel. That is off the hook. I have spent many a drunken dollar on such a wonderful early morning treat. Open all the time for ever with cool people running it and lots of sprouted avocato trees as decoration, close to the watering hole, what more could a drunk ask for? Once in college I puked on the table. It seemed epic at the time but in retrospect is very disgusting. Still all in all a great time. I was banned for a month or 4. I had to wait out side while I my peeps hooked me up with my pizza bagel heaven.

  • Amber C.

Dons is the best place to go after a night of drinking at the bars! They are located right off of the plaza and are open 24 hours a day. Their pizza bagels hit the spot every time. Late at night their lines can get a little long, but believe me, its worth the wait.

    (5)
  • Elisa P.

The buttermilk donut holes and hot chocolate are to die for on cold rainy days! I also love the hot wings. Being a broke college kid up there meant cheap, good food, and man, did those hot wings hit the spot every time! Its very tiny inside, so bring your rain coat in case there is a line out the door. I liked how it always showed events that were going on around northern california and oregon. I love it. It will be my first stop when I go back up there!

Good hot cocoa and donut holes.

  • Sam R.

The donuts are run of the mill, not bad, not great. The service is friendly and polite. Price for the doughnuts are a bit more than average. I saw they sold pizza but haven't tried it, it might be good, don't know. Over all impression it is okay, I scored it lower because I had to push myself pass a group of homeless hanging outside and avoid being hit by the one inside practicing tai-chi. Might give it another shot later on. First impressions is Don's isn't a place I'll go out of my way for.

    (2)
  • James G.

Open 24 hours and they serve bagels donuts and pizza. Only downfall is that there are alot of homeless people that hang out in front but for the most part they are usually a little further down the road. Very sweet donuts and becaue they are opened 24 hours I give this place 4 stars.

    (4)
  • Max B.

I think Don's is a surprisingly respectable joint. They do a great job! I don't know how, but the workers here manage to be pretty nice, despite how many obnoxious drunk people they have to deal with.

    (4)
  • Trisha F.

The perfect donut shop. Great bagels, a good selection of beverages, and the donuts are always fresh no matter the time of day. Prices are damn reasonable too. Do they still have the pizza bagel? That was always my favorite... I highly recommend it!

    (4)
  • Anna A.

It's nice to come here when it's the only place that sells food that is open. I come usually after a night of partying and just want some grub. The pizza is alright. I just get the donut holes they are uber cheap and provide and awesome munchies snack! Beware all the drunks & homeless chilling around it. It's next to all the bars and right next to the plaza.

    (3)
  • Enrico C.

Its just crazy to see a donut place with a line of people stretching out the door at 3am. I love going here when the bars close and so does everyone else. The donuts are fantastic, but the great thing is that they will pretty much make you what ever you want and they have mastered the fine art of dealing with drunk people. This place rules!

    (5)
  • Ben R.

Let's state the obvious: They serve donuts, of course they are AWESOME. great selection, yada, yada. Now the not-so-obvious-but-obviously- awesome: South East Asian Sandwiches! Yeah you heard me! I was dumbfounded by the culinary complexity that these sandwiches posess. They are that good. Start off with your regular meat, turkey, etc...on any number of bread choices (large selection for such a small shop) crossiant, bagel, roll, sliced, etc. but the clincher is the addition of the Vietnamese specialties. Which include but are not limited to: Pickled carrot and daikon radish (AN ABSOLUTE MUST), vietnamese hot sauce, mint, cilantro, lime juice, cucumbers...the list goes on and on. Probably the best southeast asian sandwich i've ever tasted. they also have a multitude of coffee's, ice creams, gormet sodas, it is a midnight wonderland in there...trust me. OH WAIT THIS WILL MAKE YOU GO THERE: it's open 24 hours a day. Boooyakasha!!! Thank me with comments later!!!

  • Rick P.

yall are trippin if you dont give Don's at least four stars. i mean sure, theres homeless outside, of course , its the plaza, what do you expect. it adds character to the environment. And then i read this dirty hands bull- wooow they use tongs. anyways... the donuts are far from "run of the mill" so fluffy, so delicate- i say they're worth the 80 cents. and as for the pizza- dont have high expectations for donut shop pizza- dont get me wrong, its dank, but come on, "the veggies just didn't match the texture"?? really?? well you can say what you want, but i love Don's. i'll eat it anytime of day and its worth your money

It's a 24 hour donut plus shop. 24 hours of munching satisfaction whether you are jonesing for a sweet glazed donut, hankering for a savory pizza bagel, or in need of a fully stacked sandwich, Don's has you covered any hour of the day or night. We need more places like Don's in SF, but at least Arcata has one already.

    (4)
  • Robert G.

This place is good, but the homeless and drunk a-holes can ruin the experience. I haven't had any bad food here but I never have gone out of my way to come here.

  • Shana A.

Nothing beats a fresh warm donut right after the bars. The place is great all times of the day. They have yummy sandwiches and the pizza bagel are awesome. My mouth waters just thinkin' about all the good times I've had there. It's a cool place to hit up in the morning, noon, or night right next to the plaza.. practically on the plaza. I hardly ate donuts before this place and after leaving Humboldt I haven't gone on a donut binge but I loved this place. Also, I loved the avocado plants they had every where.. sooo neat.

    (5)
  • Trent M.

I have to admit a donut place that sells pizza was a hard sell for someone from Chicago but this place wasn't half bad. The pizza was decent and they had a selection of slices ready to go. Being open 24-hours was also a big plus as I found myself here around 1:30am with nothing else open. I wish I would have tried the banh mi, maybe next time I am in town.

    (4)
  • B G.

I don't consider myself a big donut eater, but when you get a whiff of the intoxicating smell of donut batter you can't help but head for the source. Thankfully, Don's does not dissappoint --- if I'm going to stuff myself with empty calories and set myself up for health problems down the road, then I want to enjoy it!

    (4)
  • Aaron J.

Don's is open 24 hours a day, making it one of, if the only place you can find good food to munch on in the Arcata square area after a long night of drinking, smoking or both. The donuts are excellent, pizza bagels are delectable and they even have a small list of south east Asian foods made by their friendly staff of the same region. I should probably give them 5 stars just because of all the crap they have to deal with in regard to drunk assholes who show up, the quickly get out of hand or start boxing in/in front of the store. A must visit while in Arcata.

    (4)
  • Gwen D.

If you are really craving a donut and you are in Arcata you have to settle for Don's. They have a monopoly on donuts. The counter person took my money and did not wash her hands then handled my food. The donut was not fluffy and it tasted like it could even be day old. Not up to par.

  • Meloknee H.

Don's has excellent donuts at 2 a.m. You can see all sorts of craziness from downtown while eating there. And their Southeast Asian bagels are so yummy! I love their donut holes

    (4)
  • Ljótur H.

Another must whenever I'm in Arcata. Don's makes the best donuts I've had anywhere. My friends & I are certain that Don's has a fan on its roof and blows yummy donut smell down to the bars (a block away) between 12 and 3am because they know you won't be able to resist it. I never used to get munchies while drinking, but when I'm in Arcata I do (& I'm just drinking, not smoking, shut up). So anyway...the donuts, particularly the BUTTERMILK, donut holes, and chocolate with shredded coconut are spectacular - and even better, which I didn't think was possible, when they are fresh & still warm. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. If you're not in the mood for a donut they have yummy bagel sandwiches and other sandwiches and eggrolls and all kinds of things. They are usually pretty quick when the person at the register isn't flirting with a customer. They're open, last I checked, 23 hours a day. I think they close between 3 & 4 or 4 & 5, a friend of mine said they all watch Star Trek reruns in that hour.
