My order was suppose to be shrimp tempura. There was no shrimp. I called and the lady on the phone was not helpful, she said she gave me a refund but NEVER did. Will not order from here again.

A hidden gem. Love this little friendly place. The prices, service and friendly people make this my weekly visit.

I was raised that honesty is a noble quality but have recently learned the very hard way that I need to learn to be a liar to get ahead legally in court. Ugh. I don't like that. Trust me you, I am a horrible liar and I end up not lying anyway. So, back on the foodie subject here and the folks who deserve honesty points: Bluefin is an extremely honest place and I adore them for it. I've now been there several times and tonight I was craving some spicy Thai food while in the neighborhood. I typically pick up their lunch spicy basil or curry specials which have been very tasty. Tonight was dinner. So, I puzzled over their complete Thai dinner menu and a lovely young man working there helped me deliberate between duck fried rice or lemongrass chicken. Turns out, they were out of duck for the day but at least they were honest about it without excuses. I got a laugh out of the staff as I pointed out that with this current weather, there were available sitting ducks everywhere in Alameda! I couldn't help playing up some more comedy with the staff about being out of one of my two lovely chosen options so I huddled with my lovely server and threw up my hands and frantically asked him: "So, what should we do now?" I got a delicious lemongrass chicken order to go. I think I disappointed the sushi chef while I waited for my to go order. I love sushi and I cannot wait to try theirs. Just not today. Hey, he was honest in our non-verbal exchange. I like that! My lemongrass chicken was perfectly spicy and not oily at all balanced with a lovely amount of veggies as well. I loved my dinner. I love the folks there because they are honest. Delightful Burps! Faith.

Chicken katsu rolls (who the F* has that?), spicy tuna rolls (mud slinging at the best!) Fist bumps from the chef after he just cut me up some sushhhh?? Who cannot like this place. If you were smart you would order online & pick it up give or take 10 minutes for your order. Love this place.....my go to....

What happened? I used to order delivery from here all the time and it was really good. Now? My tuna roll was warm, my egg rolls cold, my California roll was mostly cucumber. I won't be risking ordering from here again.

Admittedly, we were a little unsure of how a sushi/Thai place was going to work. Would one cuisine be good and the other le suck? Would they both be sadly mediocre? Lucky for us, they were both surprisingly good. We tried a couple of rolls (the spicy tuna was better than the Encinal), and a couple of Thai dishes (the pumpkin curry was tasty, but without a single piece of pumpkin; the pineapple fried rice can be made with brown rice! woo!). Service was fast and friendly. I think we found a new local, especially for grab and go since it's conveniently located more or less IN the grocery store nearest our house. You can even duck next door to pick up your own beer or wine to have with your meal.

The hours on Yelp are not accurate. They are not open until 4pm on Sundays. It would be helpful if they actually posted their hours of operation so that people, who do not live in the area, are aware BEFORE they make the drive. It would also be helpful if they had an actual message on their answering machine instead of just a "beep".

Went here for a quick weeknight dinner. It was rather quiet (two other parties) but that was OK, because it's not a big place. We ordered our appetizers, fried tofu and fried calamari then went next door to the grocery to get beer and wine, since Bluefin doesn't have a liquor license. That was our worst experience of the night - the clerk at the grocery store would not shut the heck up and ring up people's groceries! Really, lady, your job title is not Chatty Cathy! Anyway, the tofu was good, but unbattered. Just sorta browned on the outside. Once we realized that it wasn't the beloved agedashi tofu ala Sushi House, we were fine with it. The calamari breading was panko, and it was good, but a tad overcooked. For entrees,we had the split the soft shell crab in green curry sauce, which was really good. Our only complaint was that we wanted more! We also ordered pad thai noodles and beef curry noodles. Both were good and ample. Jr. had two nori rolls. I liked the presentation of the roll and it was heeyuge. I was surprised when Jr. ordered a second one. The very nice waitress, who seemed more like the type you'd see at Ole's, talked us into dessert. The fried bananas were crunchy and had a sweet honey-like sauce. The portion, again, was heeyuge and we couldn't finish it. This is a good neighborhood restaurant and as such I didn't expect haute cuisine. Just a nice place to go to have thai-accented asian food on a busy work/school day. If the rest of you don't like it, more for me!

I'd driven past this place about two hundred times (or maybe 12 times, I'm bad at estimating), and sorta figuring that the sushi-and-thai combination is in the same general bucket as donuts-and-chinese. But on the 201st time (or maybe 13th time, I'm bad at estimating), I was hungry enough to try. Both the sushi and the thai were really good. So next time your significant other wants sushi and you want thai, no need to break off the relationship because of irreconcilable differences. Just go to Bluefin.

I barely rate restaurants, but when it is food that just are not worth the money, I just had to write a simple review for this restaurant. I wanted a delivery and so I ordered pad thai and the tom yum soup with chicken and mushrooms. The pad thai was kinda okay, a little oily. The tom yum soup was horrible. It had the most bitter/sour taste in the end. I could not bare it so i threw it away. I am pretty sure, you can get better thai food elsewhere. So is it worth the money? Not really. Ill trust food elsewhere

Wow, this place is a joke! I have never given a one star review but this place has definitely earned it. Prices are nearly double of other typical sushi restaurants, but yet portions and the quality of food is just plain ridiculous. Sushi rolls sampled were the rainbow ($9.95 cheapest roll on the menu) and the gamson ($15.95), tasted and looked like something you would find at a cheap buffet that serves sushi. Thai food was just as horrendous, spicy basil duck ($14.95) was supposed to be half of a whole "boneless" duck. What we got was a very skimpy plate of skin, fat, and BONES. Lobster curry ($19.95) was flavorless and just consisted of a big piece of the shell, but barely any lobster meat. The spicy catfish ($15.95), words can't even describe the gelatinous filth they call catfish. Then my friend finds a piece of hair in his rice, no biggie it happens, and kindly just asks for another bowl. The waitress just gives him another but doesn't even bother to apologize nor does she take the dirty bowl of rice away. I seriously don't know what these people are thinking or smoking. But if they don't make any changes soon, they'll be out of business within 6 months. You can't charge ridiculous prices for crappy food and have a rundown diner ambiance to top it all off. BTW, some of the pictures aren't even real, the restaurant and food looks nothing like that.

If you want to help out your local restaurant then go right on ahead. This place got my party really angry. We should have known better than to go to a sushi/thai restaurant. It's like a chinese/Mexican combo restaurant, it just won't work. They're way overpriced for poor quality food and the small portions are ridiculous. P.S. Their rolls had the same texture as the ones at 7-11. (cold and mushy)

bluefin sushi thai takes over the bip burger place. no decor save for a few thai elephants. sushi bar's in front where the counter is. kitchen's in the back. flatscreen: news eats: -panang curry w/beef lunch special (7.95) 20ish choices, good value, save $3 over dinner pricing beef chewy, tasteless, lots of it. -curry almost too watery, about right -some carrots and bell pepper veggie. -miso soup too much concentrate in miso soup -salad nice clump of tasty greens *saba (makeral nigiri, 3.95) fresh, very thin slices big clump of sushi rice, make perfectly, didn't fall apart -artistically presently with tobiko topping -pricey for small portion temaki; -quoted $25 for chirashi, passed -pretty good service, -waitress first asked what i wanted to drink, passed, -didn't come here to drink. -food rating , 3.5 , better than average but not enough to return.

You people are straight-up crazy. I mean, you, you Alamedans, who have no idea what bad, poor, mediocre, ok, good, and great food is. If I could Yelp rate the diners of Alameda I'd give you all one star and that would be generous. OK, are these nice people at Bluefin Sushi Thai? They sure seem to be! Let's talk about the food though, ok? OK. I ordered a Thai lunch dish and was started off with Miso soup. Cross-Asian fusion is...well...odd, and not very interesting. As a matter of fact, the flavor profiles of Japanese vs. Thai are so wildly different and not complementary that it's off-putting to get that soup before a Thai meal. That's not where the trouble ends, however. The Thai lunch comes on a plate and crowded onto the side of the lunch special is a green salad with a Japanese miso dressing. Again with the Japanese? The miso dressing bleeds over into the Thai sauce for the dish, rendering it a hot mess. I've never had a green salad on the same plate as a Thai lunch, and I hope I never have one there again. Even in a Japanese place, the salad would be served in a separate dish or at least in a separate compartment in a Bento. This composition and presentation is just hard to explain - it doesn't work at all and it ruins whatever good there might have been in the Thai dish. Speaking of that...while I was there, I overheard a diner say that her lunch was cold. She had just had it dropped on her table fresh out of the kitchen. I thought that was a little odd...until I dove into my lunch. Tepid outside and sauce, and cold inside. Again, this is a first for me. I won't guess how/why, but stuff usually comes out of a wok/pan pretty hot and well-cooked and you have to wait for it to cool down a little. This came STRAIGHT out of the kitchen and was cold. The veg pieces were cut too large which made eating them a bit of a pain. Thai food, come on, chop it up into bite-sized pieces already. The flavor was mediocre, not bad at all, just sub-Toomies, which isn't any kind of ringing endorsement. Spice I am has better flavor, but their ridiculous serving size is their own weird issue. So as for this place, Bluefin, sadly it looks like they replaced on place I never liked much (Bip's) with one I might like even less. 5+ good Thai places in Berkeley and we can't have even ONE here. FML.

$3 for delivery...we usually over order so don't like to pay for delivery when spending $80 or $90...and we always tip the delivery person. Cal roll good as Nob Hill (better than Safeway)...agree that mix of Japanese and Thai leads to confused ordering (on our part we were hungry and that leads to poor selections)...the Calamari is not an order again...the curry we ordered was just OK...was put off a bit by the agressive pricing...I might try SUSHI HOUSE if I wanted to pay at that range..first wonton was good but gagged on the second one... Might give it another try but would go one way or the other, Thai or sushi/Japenses... Parking is easier than downtown Alameda...that is a plus...

Ordered delivery thru Grubhub last night and OMG you get 5 stars again! My Pad See Ew with Shrimp was scrumptious, delicate flat noodles, tender broccoli florets, basil. Bluefin Bomb Roll is the Bomb! Son always gets Chicken & Veggie Tempura which never disappoints. Fried Gyoza are crunchy and delicious but need more of them. Only the Chicken Satay was not so much, too dry. I will go back to Bluefin again and again for delivery, dine in and take out!

A delight in an otherwise restaurant-devoid section of Alameda. It's a clean, well-lighted place for Thai and sushi, with the addition of standard bento-box dishes and American breakfasts. Really, you could just move in if you wanted to. Everything we had was delicious, clean flavors, with (as appropriate) just the right amount of spice. The service was friendly and efficient, and at least one of the servers seemed to be inherited from the previous incarnation of this location as a diner. Now that Park Street in Alameda has started to get zoo-like on Saturday nights, this may well be our new go-to restaurant.

Great little place for lunch or dinner. I've had the Sushi and the Thai food and both were excellent. The vegetarian bento box was beautifully presented and very original and tasty. The Thai curries were yummy. The service is quick and friendly. The prices were a little high but they have reduced them. I live in the neighborhood and it's great to have.a quality restaurant nearby. Nice people.

This restaurant is beginning to grow on me. The food is pretty good, both Japanese and Thai. The servers are working hard to please you. OK, the surroundings are still the same old tired 50's diner, but its casualness kind of gives the place some character. Still a little bit pricey for what you get in comparison to other Japanese or Thai restaurants.

Went for takeout this time. Massaman curry chicken again. Off the chain again. That means delicious. Gave it four because no takeout ever gets five. No takeout ever.

First time at BlueFin and it did not dissapoint. The Volacano chicken is a culinary experience. With the final sauce in flames poured over the chicken. The flavors and sweet tangy taste is out of this world. A must have. Service is great and other plates such as the bluefin ceviche and red curry beef. Outstanding. A geeat meal and superb quality! Thanks Blue Fin for the wonderful experience! Ralph

Just a quick update: Since my original review, I've eaten here ~4 times. Each time has been super delicious and satisfying. I have eaten the chicken satay, pad thai, sushi, etc. All the food is fresh and tasty. Our waitress has usually been a middle-aged woman who is efficient and helpful. Our water glasses stay refilled and our bellies leave happy- what more can you ask for? Overall, very happy with the food and service. I hope locals eat here enough to keep the business, in business.

This amazing little place has great Thai food and great Sushi. Hard to believe but true! The staff is friendly and the food is fresh and fabulous. I've eaten there except for take-out once, so I cannot comment about delivery. Prices are a bit high, but good quality. I have too many favorites to list.

This is the second time I've been to Bluefin. The first time I thought the food was good but the atmosphere wasn't worth the prices - that was before the remodel, when they still had vinyl booths. Tonight the food was still very good (and I had a 10% discount coupon, which brought the prices on more of a par with similar places in Alameda), and the atmosphere was much more pleasant. It's still too brightly lit for my taste, but maybe that's just me. I'd say that now the atmosphere is quite a bit nicer at Bluefin than at King of Thai Noodle. Plus this time we figured out about getting a beer from Encinal Market next door. Beer is always good with Thai food. Volcano chicken was unexpectedly fun: it involves flames and an iron plate. The spicy green beans come with a meat of your choice, and my only complaint about the food was that there was more meat than green beans in that dish. Maybe next time I'll skip the meat and get 100% beans; I think I like more veggies than most people do. Both times we have had Thai food rather than sushi. Next time I want to try the sushi. We will definitely be back, especially with a 10% off coupon! There weren't many people there tonight, and I think if Bluefin dropped their prices 10% they would really increase their business (and I'd give them 5 stars).

We've lived in Alameda for 30+ years, and welcome new places. We have been coming regularly to this restaurant since it opened, and it has become one our favorite 'neighborhood' places. We love Delores, Edgar and Willie who shower us with their welcomes when we come in. And since they've redone the interior, it's a lovely place to have dinner. We've tried a number of their Thai dishes (Yellow Curry, Spicy Stringbeans, Chicken with Sweet Basil and Eggplant, Pad Thai, Garlic Noodles, Three Brothers) and I always have an order of sushi to start. Their sushi is beautifully presented and fresh, fresh, fresh! We actually have never had any Japanese dishes, because we love their Thai recipes so much! There are lots of Thai restaurants, both good and bad, in Alameda, but this place has a special place in our hearts. Walking into a restaurant and being welcomed like old friends goes a long way, and sets Bluefin Sushi apart from all of the other restaurants in this town!

I placed an order for delivery and was told it would be 30-40 minutes. An hour later I called to find out where the food was and she told me they are very busy and asked if I would come pick it up. It hadn't even left yet! I told her I was home with a sleeping baby and couldn't leave. She said they would come later. I told her they were already late, but she didn't seem to care. After hanging up, I decided I would call back and ask to speak to the manager. The line has been busy for the past 25 min. So it has now been 85 minutes without food. They won't get my service again.

The people in this place are always nice and welcoming. At 1st I didn't realize this was both a sushi and Thai place. Their chicken salad was fresh and delicious. To go along with this I ordered the mexican roll. No fishy smell, so tasty, and generous. A nice addition to a great neighbor hood shopping center.

My first visit to Bluefin. Started with the house salad with the ginger dressing, which was outstanding. I assumed this would be served in a small bowl, instead it was served on a large plate. Afterwards, enjoyed warm edamame, California roll, ikura, and had to try the spicy basil chicken. The food and service was very good, along with very good prices as the total bill was lower then a similar meal elsewhere. The only drawback was the restaurant did not serve beer, which I enjoy with sushi. We will be back......Chris

Extremely surprised as to the mixed reviews thus far -- leads me to believe that maybe some folks have an axe to grind or something, because our experience was really good here. The salmon nigiri sushi was fresh, excellently prepared, and came with a neat finishing garnish. The Pad see ew was good, and had lots of fresh asparagus and was loaded with broccoli. The service was friendly. Seriously folks, the food is solid, and the prices are more than fair.

My wife and I live just a few blocks away and decide to give it a try for dinner and despite the complaints some reviewers have about the price, they are on par with and are actually lower in some cases than other sushi establishments (Sushi House and Kamakura). We had the small boat for two priced at $25 ($70 at Sushi House) and the Bluefin Bomb Roll at $12.95 which was delicious and enormous. It had 14 pieces compared to eight at most places. On our second visit we had the Crispy Duck Basil at $14.95 which with rice was quite adequate for the two of us. They also take the "Localize It" card which gets you a 15% discount off the tab. While others have complained about the decor, I actually prefer that they spend their money on product rather than place settings.

For Thai food only (I'm still a bit iffy on a place that serves such drastically different cuisines) I had a bad taste in my mouth yesterday. I don't know what prompted me to come here, I was actually pining for some ddukkbokki nearby, but pad see ew was calling my name. I love the dark sweet soy sauce flavor in that dish. It didn't disappoint. One of the things that my sister likes about pad see ew is when the tofu is big. She hates when the tofu is just so dry that it's just the outside and no substance/actual tofu inside. HUGE pieces of tofu and plenty of it. I also like that there was a lot more vegetables in the vegetarian option (I got it for my sister so she could try it). It definitely filled me up and I was able to eat it for two meals. So I guess I'll be back to update my review.

Pretty good dishes but I particularly like the atmosphere this place gives. The hanging lights and more intimate seating give a good touch. They didn't put much into the presentation but the flavor was decent.

small place. fits about 10 tables. not very crowded though. lots of sushi places in alameda. puts new spin cause they serve sushi and thai food. only tried the japanese this visit. had the baked mussels for apps. they were pretty good. baked mussel on the bottom and some fish on top like salmon or something. not on the menu but there is a picture of it. it was about 9$. came with 6 or 7. not bad. tried the bento box with steak. not your traditional bento box. it starts with miso soup and salad. then the box comes with 3 piece fish, seaweed salad, cucumbers, carrots, mix of cooked veggies and steak on top of that (about 5 pieces), 4 california rolls, and 2 special rolls. all for about 14$. a lot of food. i wish there was more steak and less sushi in it though. oh well. i was full. also tried a tuna sushi with spicy tuna inside and fresh tuna outside wtih bread crumb sprinkles on top. pretty good. overall filling. whole meal came to about 45$. decent place. not sure if its on my sushi rotation list tho.

We had been here a few times before and got decent Thai food, but this week we had the worst experience at this place! We sat and watched some very decorative Japanese plates go by and when our Thai food arrived, it was a literal PLOP of noodles on the plate with a little handful of bean sprouts and a tsp. of peanuts, (not even a sprig of cilantro, let alone any vegetables!) and a PLOP of vegetables with a glop of peanut sauce for the Praram. No effort to make the food the least bit attractive or appetizing, and the service was not good, either. If you put effort into one type of cuisine on your menu and offer so many other options, as much attention should be given to those. What a disappointment! We won't be going back.

Our to go spot for both sushi and Thai - two in one, if you cannot make up your mind :) sushi always fresh - Hot Momma roll is the best! Service sometimes slow, but friendly. You can bring beers from next door grocery store. Great local spot in Alameda.

I really like this place, they've got a good sushi chef with nice fresh cuts of fish, always pleased with my sushi orders here, also they make very nice specialty rolls like a combination tempura roll which is hot and crunchy, excellent, I've tried a couple of entree dishes like massaman curry which had amazing flavor and I've had the pad Thai which was also very good, you definitely can't go wrong with this place.

Bluefin serves Thai and Japanese food. That's an odd pairing to me, but their food is great! The staff are attentive and so nice. The restaurant is located in a weird shopping center, but who cares. My favorite dishes are the drunken noodle dish, the spicy green bean ( watch out! it really is spicy), and everything from the Thai menu. I would love to eat at Bluefin everyday....I just wish my stomach could handle the fire!

Thai food & Japanese food...what could be any better, right? I for one can't think of much else and enjoy that I can get a Bento box mixed with sushi, sashimi, and pad Thai. I have been here several times and enjoy the boxes because it comes with a variety of items to feast on. I have also had the duck fried rice which was tasty! I have never had to wait for a table and the servers are friendly and welcoming. It is on the smaller side but it is a nice hidden gem in Alameda.

Avocado Salad had no crab :-( Papaya Salad was tasty but way too tiny. Pad Thai had none of the orchestral glory I expected. Tom Kha Gai was bland, which is one thing that soup ought not be. Sushi bento boxes were nothing special at all. Competently mediocre. Nothing terrible, but nothing excellent either. Would probably order again if the competetion was closed that night.

Whoa Thai and sushi delivered?!? Sign me up! And order directly through Yelp? Can't be any easier and awesome! Duck noodle soup was super greasy, broth smelled like ramen soup base and tasted like it. Small portion and about 4 thin pieces of duck. Loved the thinly sliced gailan. The encinal roll was a joke. Super small rolls and was mainly avocado. Normally a roll this size of this quality would be $6, priced at $10. Pad Thai with chicken is in the garbage. Barely any veg, egg and super tomato saucy, I could TASTE the stale rice noodles. EW. Save your dinero people. Learn from my mistakes.

If I could, I would give these folks a 2.5 star rating. Service is a 1 or 2 star depending on the night. I've been there several times because the food is good... when you eventually get it, and if they get it right. Once, it was a Friday night, and they were obviously much busier than they expected to be. Not enough servers, and it took my dinner guest and I about 20 min to even have our order taken. Had we not already mentally committed to the place, we would have left. We've had really efficient waitresses once in a while, but more often the kind who will bring a dish, but not bother to clear others on the way back. You gotta maximize your table trips, especially when the table is tiny and you run out of room for the dishes! The food is pretty good, I generally get Pad Thai with Tofu, and the miso soup is nice as well. However, there have been times when my 'appetizer' came after the main meal, and things have been forgotten. Generous portions are nice, and my friends who like sushi say it's good.

Have had delivery in the past from Bluefin & those times I'd get the painful call back saying they had no Ama Ebi :( Tonight was my lucky night! Didn't get the call, instead exactly 27mins later the nicest woman was at my doorstep with my order. She asked me how my day was, I proceeded to tell her it was better now that she was here with my dinner in hand in record time. In addition to my double order of Ama Ebi (the fried heads were perfectly fried with a sweet sauce gently drizzled atop YUM), I gave the Uzuzkuri added jalapeño (delicious salmon sashimi with a dollop of their house sauce and tobiko with a side of ponzu sauce that made this delicate dish to die for. I couldn't resist trying some of their Thai offerings. The green curry with tofu was a perfect medium spice as requested. There was definitely no skimping on the tofu and veggies. The curry was well balanced in flavor. Last but not least the tom yum goong also medium spice was perfect. It automatically came with shrimp, no added charges at this place. For the convenience of their delivery, their prices, portions & quality I have to say Bluefin will definitely be hearing and seeing a lot more of me. I'm even going to reach out with a thank you call.....it was that good. PS, I almost ordered the lobster tempura roll which is to die for, regretting it now. Try it!

We ordered drunken noodles (clumpy, bland), spicy green beans (pretty good) and fresh rolls (decent) for delivery. It was fast but the food pails in comparison to Spice I Am. Wish we'd just gone there instead

Its Valentine's Day and all the couples that are not having a sushi date here are totally missing out!! My boyfriend discovered this hidden gem and we are enjoying the scrumptious treat. While everyone is still waiting an hour to be seated at the neighboring Kamakura, we got seated in less than a minute and are already on our 4th sushi roll!! The volcano roll is my favorite. But make sure to also order the sashimi ceviche. Very refreshing to find Bluefin!!

Off the beaten path, but well worth it! A small family owned restaurant. The food is excellent, we had; Lobster Tempura Roll Pad Thai Spicy Catfish Thai Fried Rice Really good clean food, definitely will be back, I highly recommend everyone give them a try. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars, is the because of the service. Nothing wrong, but our server was young and in my opinion inexperienced. The tempura roll didn't come out until after we got the catfish. (But we didn't ask for the sushi first, I feel he should have asked) if he did, we would have said yes, please bring the sushi first. When I go out to eat, (which I do a lot) I have high expectations for service, I want to BE served, and I tip very well!!

So I read a few of the reviews on here. Majority of them were 4 stars. All talking about how GOOD the food is. Today I decided to give it a try with my family. I didn't realize how small this restaurant was until I walked in. It looks spacious from outside. All of the Bento here come with 3 pieces of sushi. 6 pieces of Sashimi. 2 pieces of deep fried Cali roll. 4 pieces of regular Cali roll, miso soup and salad. NO rice come with it so you'll have to order a side of rice. I didn't like how they don't have different combination for the bento lunches like tempura or gyoza. The portion of the chicken or steak is VERY small. At other restaurants the portions are HUGE. So we ordered 4 chicken teriyaki and one steak bento. Three of chicken teriyaki & steak bento we substituted the Sashimi and sushi for tempura because both my sisters, brother and my mom don't like raw fish. I didn't make any substitution for my chicken bento. One chicken teriyaki bowl for my niece and one fired rice for my brother. As I mentioned above. If the menu had different variations/combination of bento boxes the waitress wouldn't had gotten our order wrong. When our food came out the steak bento box had Sushi & Sashimi when we clearly had told the waitress that we wanted it substituted for tempura. The fried rice and chicken teriyaki bowl were quite good. No problems there. My family enjoyed the food but I was able to tell the difference right away. The Cali rolls had the same texture as the ones you would buy at Safeway. The oil in which the tempura was deep fried was old because it didn't have a golden color. It was dark yellow. The Sushi & Sashimi wasn't fresh. Again, it tasted like what they sell Safeway. The waitresses weren't attentive. We had to ask for refills, straws and chopsticks. You'd expect to walk into a Japanese restaurant and have chopsticks on the table. Not here. All of the reviews talk about how good the food is here. Maybe the had a good chef working the day they came to eat and I didn't. I won't be returning here again.

Always on the lookout for good sushi, I was excited and hopeful to try this place out, especially because I live within walking distance! When I first started my review I noticed several that complained of poor service. I honestly feel if someone has an issue with it, they should simply get the waiters attention. This place is too small to truly be ignored. No one saw me come in at first but as soon as I moved into view of the sushi chef he immediately greeted me and called out to another server. They simply were paying attention to their tasks and had not noticed me. It does not appear the past reviewers' perceived slights were at all intentional. This is a small restaurant and the staff working is, well, working! The Thai hot tea is wonderful to sip on while you wait. The flavor is very intriguing and the smell is relaxing. I ordered the gyoza to start and it came out right away. The flavor was fantastic. Not greasy or burnt; the perfect amount of crunch. It was plated on a bed of cabbage with a lovely orchid and some carrots for garnish. For the main course, I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the spider roll. The spicy tuna was great, no complaints. Two thumbs up! The spider roll was also excellent. A little on the sweeter side just FYI so I'll probably try something new next time, but again, no complaints. Both rolls were flavorful and the presentation again, was beautiful. The delivery of food was on point and the server encouraged me to stay as long as I wanted afterward. For people who expect "faster service," you must not have had good sushi before and should probably stick to Panda Express. In my opinion, preparing this food is an art and a form of expression as much as it is something to be consumed. Patience should be expected! Use that time beforehand to enjoy the tea, the appetizers and build up anticipation! You won't be disappointed!

First time here, my friend recommended me to come here and it was the best decision I've made. The service was very good, they were fast and friendly. The food was delicious. I ordered pad thai and fried rice and it was very good. Robster tempura roll was the best roll I've ever had. Spicy tuna salad was good too. I will come back and recommend you to come here. Thanks to chief Willy.

I really love this restaurant! I drive from richmond to eat here. I always get the calamari tempura and lobster tempura roll, they are sooo delicious!! I've also tasted the super crunch roll and thats good too, but not my favorite just because im not a big fan of salmon. I've never had Thai from here so I can't speak on that half of the menu. The restaurant itself is clean, staff is really attentive and friendly, and its never too crowded. They don't sell alcohol though, buy your booze at the grocery next door:)

-1 star: Called in an order 45 minutes ahead of time. Arrived and waited for another 25 minutes! (And they were not busy). -1 star: the smallest pieces of sushi ever... I'm all about bite-sized (hate oversized pieces) but these were tiny. -1 star: rolls w

2 stars for being 1 block from our house when we can't make it to park st or don't want to wait for delivery. That's it. If you love real Thai food, you'll barely recognize this. If you love sushi, you can find better almost anywhere. But if you have a baby or are otherwise short on time, live a block from here, AND don't mind that your to-go orders have mistakes in them 50% of the time (no exaggeration with lots of data points...I said VEGETARIAN pad kee Mao. Etc), this is the perfect place for you! *Side note: Any restauranteurs looking for a new location? Cause this place has ZERO competition and anything else would be welcomed with open arms and wallets! All that said, because it's so convenient for us, we will keep trying periodically. I will happily update if quality or service improves.

I just tried this place through delivery and I love it. It didn't even take 30 min to arrive when it said it could take up to an hour. I got the pad Thai with tofu, steamed chicken gyoza and a California roll. I wasn't in the mood for sushi but had to try something, California roll was alright. Too much cucumber for me but still good. I ordered the pad that medium spicy and I didn't think it was spicy at all. I added a little bit of peanut sauce to the pad Thai and it was awesome. I don't normally eat gyoza because it's normally made with pork, but this was chicken and so good. You also have an option to get the gyoza fried, not steamed. I will definitely order from this pace again and I should totally go and eat there soon.

This place blows. Decided to come here for a quick dinner with the boyfriend. After 15 minutes of awkwardly standing around waiting for someone to acknowledge us, it never happened. The servers looked at us several times, but no one greeted us, not once. It may have been busy, but at least have the decency to acknowledge your customers. So what happened after that? We got the hell out of there and found somewhere else to eat. Poor manners and lack of customer service. I'm never coming back to this place.

When I saw a new restaurant on Eat24.com I was like yay another Thai restaurant near me with free delivery! But I should of known when I saw the menu and it had Japanese menu as well. I should of not ordered from there especially when they have menu items with Mexican references for the food ex: Ceviche Bluefin and Tres Amigos... The Thai iced tea is the only item helping this review to be 2 stars! My wife's Chicken Satay was cold and over cooked to point like its JERKY! Come now chicken satay should be grilled and still be juicy not deep fried! My order came with a pint of rice and I ordered a extra rice for $1.25. What did I get? Basically got two half pints of rice (see uploaded pic). I have to say for me giving them 2 stars is very generous but I will never order from them again which is sad to say since I love Thai food. I wish King of Thai delivered!

Japanese and Thai food together... who would have thunk?! But it was yummy! Got really hungry one night and came in for some drunken noodles, and a few sushi rolls. I was pleasantly surprised how good the flavors were. I forgot the name of what was ordered, but there was a cucumber wrapped roll that was tasty and I kinda wished the noodles were bottomless - I couldn't get enough of it! There was also a tray of condiments which worked well with everything. There was enough spice and seasoning to make my palate happy. Service was quick and nice. The owner came out to greet us and it looked like he knew the group sitting next to us as well. The downer: restrooms are outside of the restaurant so to walk across the parking area to a hallway restroom in the dark wasn't my preference... but if you gotta go, you gotta go.

I frequently order delivery from here to my workplace in Alameda. Free delivery for orders over $20. Good turn around time and very decent pricing. Friendly employees. Spicy crab roll is simple yet delicious.

My guy and I came here last night for a marvelous time and great dining experience. We've lived on the other side of the island for a couple months and hadn't explored the High street area yet. I drove past the location while returning from yoga the previous evening, Reading some of the Yelp reviews about poor service or low quality food made me a little concerned, but I went with my gut (a play on words, yes?). We ordered a combo of Japanese and Thai food: seaweed salad, egg rolls, rainbow sushi roll, and chicken pad see ew. Everything tasted great and had a nice presentation. The pad see ew was the only dish that was a bit lackluster in flavor, but the noodles were very soft and I spiced it up with a little soy sauce mixed with wasabi. Our bill came to roughly $30 which we both thought was very fair. The restaurant is next to a well stocked package/liquor store and has an interior door between them. The bf decided that we should have Belgium beer (yum) so he bought a bottle of Chimay. No fuss and no fee for BYOB. In fact, I liked that the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license because that made our dinner even more affordable. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. She may have been the owner or just a long-time staff member, because she seemed very comfortable and was more "seasoned" than the younger server, who seemed a bit shy. I am stingy about giving 5 Stars since, for me, that rating is not fully related to the food. There has to be a fabulous mix of atmosphere, eating and price consideration. Bluefin hit that! We'll return soon. Side note: My bf is a builder, and he noted that the little shopping center that Bluefin anchors seemed like a converted 60s motel lodge. Once he pointed this out, I could totally see it!

first time ordering. this place is very close to our house and i loved the free delivery option and ordering through yelp. it's a rainy day and we just got back from the holidays and have nothing in the house. ordered a combination of Thai dishes (pad thai and red curry) lunch specials, and Japanese soups and sushi. reasonable prices. 40 minute delivery. good food. I would definitely order again. and i will likely visit and eat at the restaurant someday.

I love going here. The staff, owners are great! The food is delicious! I had the shrimp fried rice and tried the lobster roll. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. I even showed up at closing and they were nice enough to stay a extra 20 minutes!

The Sushi wasn't the best, but I think that had more to do with sitting in the car on-top of hot food than with the quality of the fish. The Thai food, was delicious, with large chunks of meat and spices that hit just the right levels. I'll have to go sometime to rate the resturant itself; my delivery experince was just fine.

Love this little spot for an impromptu date night with my love. We usually order the duck fried rice, miso, seaweed salad, spicy tuna hand roll and one of the specialty rolls with salmon or tuna. The staff is super sweet and friendly, although don't come here if you are in a hurry because it is a little slow. The food is very tasty though, and if you grab a bottle of something next door at the market, you can relax like you're in your kitchen with a sushi/Thai chef! I love the fact that you have a giant wine/beer selection next door at the market that you can bring into bluefin - they'll even bring you a chilled mug for your beer. Overall it's a sweet little spot for dinner without a killer price tag.

I did not like their sushi at all. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the single boat. The sushi didn't seem fresh and portions were small, especially considering the price for my meal:$32. If you want excellent sushi for about half the price and bigger portions, go to Yojimbo on Park St.

Placed order for delivery at 6:10 pm. Did not arrive until 7:55 pm. Tempura wasn't proper flaky tempura batter. Sushi was the same quality as grocery store sushi. I know that every restaurant gets into the weeds now an again, but when I pointed out the nearly 2 hour delivery time, no one even apologized.

Came here for sushi with my gf for dinner. Their sushi menu is small and doesn't include the magnificent rolls displayed on yelp. It's kinda cool bc I'm sure there is a secret menu....which brings excitement to your dinner......we laughed about it. Had the paradise salmon love, Bangkok 7, and gamson rolls and loved it! Sushi chef came out to greet us when we paid our bill and shook our hands since it was closing. And did some small talk. Really down to earth and friendly. Recommended to place his rolls on paper to bring in more customers. I will be return And try Thai food. Bring your phone to tell chef what you want for sushi since yelp has pics.

Thought the food was very good and very filling. Can be a bit pricey, but you fill up quickly so a little goes a long way. The presentation was also very good. Oranges and radishes cut up and displayed artistically with the rolls were a nice touch.

YUMMMMY!!! Great Shrimp Fried Rice! The Chef and Staff welcome you in thru the windows, even before you go inside, like your one of the Family. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the food is GREAT!

Food is always tasty. The place is small, simple and clean. We like the variety of menu choices but it is a simple menu. The fish is always fresh The dishes are a good size to share eg. the Pad Thai. I enjoy the spicy tuna salad and papaya salad. My husband like Paradise catfish. Parking is plentiful.

It took me a while to give this new place a try. They first offered a 20% discount in the newspaper, and I thought why not? let's give it a try. True, the place is not fancily decorated. But the food and service are good. Isn't that the most important thing about a restaurant? I've been back couple more times since and always ordered Thai food. I will give the sushi a try next time. The big plus about this place is that you don't have to fight to find a parking space.

Update 1/5/13: A remodel has done away with the funky coffee shop decor and replaced it with beautiful and serene colors and textures. Still the same great food and good service, and Willie smiling from behind the sushi bar!

Yes, this place is dive-y but and too small to serve a large group of people, but the food was very good. Went there for lunch and ordered the vegetarian spring roll and vegetarian pad thai with tofu. The nice food presentation compensated for the decor. First I was served with a s Japanese style salad with a bowl of miso soup. The salad was tasty and the miso soup was not salty as I've had at other Japanese restaurant so I enjoyed that too but I admit I wish it were a little hotter. Next came the vegetarian spring roll which was sliced in the same fashion as sushi rolls. The ingredients were fresh and the skin was soft and not chewy like others I've eaten elsewhere. I give the spring roll a five star; price was $4.95. The portion for the pad thai was a little smaller than I'm used to but still enough that I ended up taking home about half; price was $7.95. This is not the type of place you would take someone on a first date because of the decor, but if you want tasty food and don't mind eating at a cramped place, i recommend this new restaurant. Also, service was prompt and friendly, prices the same as other thai and Japanese restaurants in Alameda. I plan on returning to try their Japanese menu. Recommending this place to friends and family. My only wish is that they remodel to make it more comfortable otherwise I think it would hurt their business keeping it the way it is.

Friendly owners, great service and most importantly, delicious food! I've been twice and have had excellent, very fresh food: Thai iced tea, California roll, red curry, prawns & asparagus, wonton soup, fresh veggie/tofu roll, Thai hot tea and steamed rice. The main dishes were very lightly sauced and cooked to ensure the prawns and veggies were still slightly crisp and flavorful. Is it a dimly lit romantic place? No. I don't mind diner booths and plain white dishes when the food is that good. Two thumbs up.
