This place is fantastic. Went here with my wife and two little girls. The staff was very nice. They took very good care of the kids by not bringing super hot food for them. I sampled multiple items a la carte and enjoyed the enchiladas, and beef tostadas. The dinner could have came a bit quicker, but it was worth the wait. Best mexican food I have found in Yuma. Which is saying a lot with it being so close to the border. Managed to meet the owner and he was very nice and down to earth. Hope this review helps.

Great food and service! I had chili relleno and potato tacos...great flavors and value. Hubby had carne asada...loved it. Only thing holding this place back from five stars is the simplistic decor. We will stop again!

Excellent chili relleno. Huge portions. Service was not great this night and some guests were really upset. It was good, but not great. For Yuma, it was pretty decent.

One of our favorites here in Yuma. The missus usually gets the milanesa and I opt for the cheese enchiladas. The chips and salsa are pretty good and the service is always very good.

This is a wonderful family owned restaurant. We were travelling back to Phoenix from San Diego and decided to stop for dinner in Yuma. The building had a bit of appeal so I at least wanted to check it out. Decided to stay and I'm glad we did. Since this place has only been open about a month we were greeted by the owner. He was nice, informative, and attentive. Even with all the questions by two of the people I was with he remained patient. Being a party of four we ordered - Carne asada burrito, Chicken Chimi, Chicken taco salad, and I ordered the Special of the day which was Pork Chili Verde. The food came out fast and the perfect temperature. Each dish was typical for what you would expect with mexican food....until we started eating. The flavors were wonderful. The meat tender and not dry. Even the beans were above par. We took turns sampling each others meal. We were all in agreement that the Chili Verde was the best (tender pork, not too salty, great flavor). The one who ordered the taco salad said that it was the best she had ever had...and she is a connoisseur of taco salads. A little while after we had begun eating the owner came back out to check on us. After praising the food to him he told us this secret: Everything is made from scratch. No canned beans, no tub of guac, no canned chicken. Fresh homemade tortillas, fresh made guacamole. The chips and salsa were great. I can say with confidence that after swimming through a sea of mexican restaurants this one comes out with those on top. In my mind, their food quality is as good or better than most I have had at two or three times the price! If you get through this lengthy review, you are probably hungry by now. Head over to Las Herraduras and try it out. You know you want to!

I was dissapointed with the service. My husband, son & I went there on an afternoon with only another table occupied. The waitress took forever to get our order, offer us more drinks, & in the end forgot that I asked for a take home box.

My hubs had the Macho plate, consisting of a cheese enchilada, a Chile relleno, a beef taco, a tamale covered in red chili con carne, with rice and beans., I ordered two gorditas, which were two stuffed, fried pockets of dough with chicken and standard taco ingredients. The relleno was fluffy and just melted in our bocas. The tamale masa was also fluffy and tender, although the filling was pretty scarce. Our waitress, who hails from National City, was sweet and helpful. It was good food and great service. Not sure if we would go back because a few things were great but overall the food was just OK, but I'm glad we tried it. Everything needed seasoning!

Let me start by saying that I always thought my mom's Albondigas soup was the best ever...until I had it at Las Herraduras. My hubby agrees. We absolutely love the Albondigas soup at Herraduras. Lots of meatballs and tasty veggies. It's the perfect combination. Everything else I've had there like the cheese crisp, tamales, rolled potato tacos, enchiladas are wonderful. The chips and salsa are really good too. The owners Aaron and Monica are always very friendly and nice to us and make a point to get to know their regular patrons.

This place is our favorite goto Mexican restaurant. The service is always good and the foods is delicious! We have been here several times and had great experiences each time. We will miss this place when we move.

  • Mike L.

Great Mexican food. I still prefer Cretines and El Charro, but this is an extremely close second. Excellent Chili Relleno and folded tacos. Albondigas soup is a bit hit there too.

  • Rikki M.

Yum!! This place reminds me of some great Mexican we have in Texas-flavorful with generous portions. Service can be a little slow sometimes, mostly because the waitresses probly have a few more tables than is convenient. Sometimes there's an angry lady at the front that doesn't always make you feel welcome....but what are you gonna do? The food is awesome, have had the chile rellenos, enchiladas, burritos...all delicious!

  • Brendan W.

Decent Mexican place. Salsa is good. Chips just ok. Enchilada sauce is more of a rancho version. A bit smokey.

  • Sheila M.

We stopped by for breakfast..service was good ...they don't have a full bar, no mimosa or Bloody Mary ...no chips and salsa are served until 11 even though every table asked for them ..food was okay and served hot.

I used to enjoy Salsa Verde, which occupied this building prior to Las Herraduras. I had not returned to try this place until today. The inside of the place looks nice. They painted and added new tables and chairs. It seemed smaller in there though, I think the divided the room up differently or something. Anyways... The food was good. Not great but not bad at all. My burrito (burrito Mexicano) was very saucy and greasy and the tortilla split before I even tried to pick it up. This was a bummer but the flavor was not bad. I was expecting a bigger burrito for the $9.99 price though! My wife enjoyed her milanesa plate until she found a sharp chunk of plastic in her food. We told the waitress and she seemed sorry but didn't offer to replace food or comp the meal. We told her to let the cook know so that no one chokes or cuts themselves. While the food was ok and the service was adequate it was just not good enough to warrant a return. There are better places in town to get mexican food.

Stopped in Yuma on way back from vacay in S.D. Decided on the Las H and it did not disappoint. Wife had the two enchiladas - chicken and cheese - plate. Son had the same with dos mas beef tacos on the side. I had beef fajitas with rice and beans. Everyone was pleased with the flavor and authenticity of the food. GREAT place ..highly recommended.

I have visited Las Herraduras various times now and the dishes I have tried so far have been really good. The environment is great, and it is not pricy. Every time I eat some of its breakfast I feel I'm eating my mother's food back when I was a child. It is delicious! I know it's sounds strange, but it feels like home.

Great food with good service. The price is a little high but okay. Service was good with plenty of parking.

Great Tasting and Quality Food of Mexico I'm from Sacramento, CA. Both my aunt and I decided to go here after I just looked up the best Google Reviews. Both Rice and Beans were did so well with great flavor on combo. plate. Price is just little high, but you're getting QUALITY and too much to eat.

Definitely worth the drive off of I-8 -- and it's not that far, 5 minutes maybe. Food was really good, the chips were excellent. Service? So-so, but friendly. Would definitely return.

  • Angel F.

We were the only ones in the restaurant and it took 45 mins to get us some food. But the salsa and chips are good, unless of course they run out of chips or forget to get you chips. Maybe the lunch service just sucks but it definitely did. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the salsa and the food was decent. I would meet a nice family in town and see if anyone knows how to cook instead of coming here. On to the next place I guess.

Chips and salsa are good and free. Enjoyed my fajitas. Guacamole was bad and expensive. Overall good mexican food.

I have been here a couple times and have tried several different things; all have been delish! Aside from the food the workers are friendly and prompt service. I def would recommend to anyone who wants some good Mexican food. Super yummy!!!

Grim rolled "tacitos" filled with unidentifiable meat. Good chips and salsa. TV dinner rice and beans. You can do better almost anywhere else, even in Yuma.

  • Mei C.

We went in for a quick lunch and was satisfied with the service and everything. I ordered tacos and they were very good. The server was very helpful on helping me make up my mind on what to get.

Awesome place. Beans were some of the best I've ever had. I'd recommend the potato tacos, but the enchiladas were a close second.

Best chips and salsa in Yuma. I had a Machaca Chimichanga for lunch on Friday. ooh so good! Great price for the lunch and boy was I full. I was disappointed by the Cashier. She acted like I wasn't there. I get that enough from my girlfriend and I don't have to pay her. These travelling shoes will go back, but if I get the cold shoulder again, that will be the end.

Food was decent(3 stars) I'm more of a Tex-Mex fan so I'm a little biased on the "Sonoran"(copied from other review) style of Mexican fare. I found my enchilada platter a little too spicy. The service and price are where they lacked. Seating and ordering was fairly fast although it wasn't busy at all. The meals lingered in the $8-10 range and had decent portions. Unfortunately they didn't bring the tortillas that were included in our meal and drink service was slow. When requesting more drinks and additional sour cream the waitress seemed off-put and uppity. They also charged us for the extra sour cream because the initial .75 charge only included a mini dollop for such a large dinner. Had they brought our tortillas, only charged us once for a reasonable amount of sour cream and provided pleasant service they would have deserved a 3.5 or 4 star rating with caveats of their particular style of food.

Great green chili with succulent pork. Awesome tamales with vibrant red sauce. Very good service. A true find.

    (5)
  • Peggy H.

Great local restaurant. Food is plentiful and prices are reasonable. Great chips and salsa. Not chunky like pico de gallo but regular mexican salsa. More authentic, not covered in a lot of sour cream like the chain restaurants. Have eaten here dozens of times and NEVER had bad food. They do offer limited alcohol (beer mainly) not sure who posted that they don't. They can usually accomodate big groups on short notice. Our go to sit down Mexican food restaurant.

Had dinner with a co-worker on Tuesday night; quality was as before; still had seeds in the chile relleno, but enormous portions. Service was OK; no real issues. Nothing fantastic, but apparently this is pretty darn good for Yuma.

  • Christopher B.

Las Herraduraz is good, but definitely not 5 stars. Our service was friendly and fast, the quality of the food was above average and portions were large. These features were like an Acapulco chain but better. The negatives included a filthy parking lot (including a semi-decomposed bird on the ground where I got out of my car), barely any music, slightly overpriced entrees, and no guac or cheese with my fajitas. Overall, I give it 3!

We were looking for some place to take a break from being in the car for so long, and the review for Las Herraduras had caught our eye on the way over. This must be a reincarnation of a diner of some sort (hence the faded sign for steak and eggs outside). The building is old, but the restaurant is clean and nice inside. We arrived at an off time (3:30), and there were only a few other diners present. We were seated immediately and brought chips and salsa. The chips were hot and the salsa was fresh/great. On the next trip, I'll have to remember how to request the 'dishwasher's salsa', a la Payton, because you know there has to be one at this place. None of us were super hungry so we shied away from the plates, and ordered burritos instead. I guess we were thinking because they were less than half the price, they wouldn't be too large, but we couldn't have been more wrong. Everything was huge from the cheese crisp to the burritos, to the drinks. Ahh. . the drinks. . . be warned they do not have have a liquor license as of yet, so no cervezas or margaritas if you're in the mood. The pollo asado burrito was served with fresh grated cabbage and chopped tomato, delicious and not too heavy. I wouldn't normally order a cheese crisp, but this happened to be at the request of the birthday girl, and it was great. The tortilla was crispy underneath without being burned with a mess of white cheeses, it was gooey and wonderful. The green chili burrito was great, and I wish I had ordered the plate (or a bowl) so the tortilla would have been on the side instead of in the way. I'm giving this 5 stars because I definitely need to come back and try more dishes that are not burritos. I'm also sorry I didn't order from the Los Poquitos at the beginning of the menu, which the server suggested for the kids and said they were some of her favorites. And I'm guessing they weren't that little. . .

My boyfriend was sold when he saw they put bacon in their carne asada burritos, which are massive. I had the beef sopes, which were very tasty, though I wish they had more than one piece of avocado on them. Good beans and rice too and a very sweet waitress. Only gripe is that I asked for a side of sour cream and they brought me a huge blob of what turned out to be cream cheese! LOL! Kitchen scooped the wrong tub.

A decent mexican restaurant for Yuma. Like others will say it is better than Chile Pepper but it isn't the bees knees either. Its a pretty standard Mexican restaurant. Nothing bad to report. We mainly only go here now to pick up orders of a dozen or so potato tacos. Apparently this is unique to Yuma and are surprisingly good here. If anything order a dozen and enjoy.

Stopped by here to try out what we have heard was great Mexican food, unfortunately my husband and I came too late and were met at the door by the owner. After talking with him he insisted we take home a chile relleno on the house! We ended up leaving with rice, beans, two chile rellenos, and green chile, all after the restaurant was closed. Enough for three people and all so delicious! Chile verde a big hit and beans as good or better than Chile Pepper. So impressed by the food and generosity we will be bringing the whole family out! Thank you!

Not sure where all the four star reviews are coming from, nothing special here. My wife and I decided to try Las Herraduras for dinner based on the reviews others had but were not impressed. I was actually so unimpressed that I created a Yelp account just to write about the experience. We should have turned around after walking into the musty smelling dining area with the loud squawking bird in the back but gave it a try anyways. In all honesty the chips and salsa were good and the service fair but that's where it ends. I ordered a $12 "carne asada" burrito which looked good on the plate but upon further inspection was full of greasy, flavorless, ground beef. I asked the waitress for some sour cream which I later found out carries a premium of $1.25. My wife got shrimp tacos which were decent but far from Yuma's best. $28 dollars for a burrito, Pepsi, and shrimp tacos all half way eaten while listening to an obnoxious bird. Needless to say I won't be going back again, especially with as many quality alternatives in the area.

love this place!! its has become our families destination when ever we go out together! every family reunion dinner is held here, or just a get together we go here. If we dont want to cook we order some tacos to go from here! Just love it!! The food is good and the service is great!!!! I always end up getting the same server a wonderful lady who is so kind to me and my children! Had my youngest child's babyshower in the back room, and it was so much fun! They even remembered her when we came back over a year later!! Plus my children and dad love the bird in the resturant! They get a kick out of that little bird! i would recomend this place for anyone! family friendly!

When you are in Yuma, AZ, you have to go to this place :) It is the BEST restaurant EVER!! They welcome you, feed you and the prices are really reasonable and the food is most excellent!! Don't miss out, trying this place :) If they had 10 stars for rating, that's what I would rate this place :)

For all the Mexican food establishments in Yuma this one is my favorite!!! The food is very tasty, Red Chilli burrito is my favorite. The waitresses are great and work hard to make your visit worth while. The plate is always hot and full. I wish they had draft beer here. My only gripe is the owner when he is ringing up the check could be more proffessional and appreciative. I will still keep coming here. The food is great.

We stumbled into Las Herraduras for dinner one night and were pleasantly surprised to find a quaint family owned restaurant. The service prompt, the drinks cold, the chips and salsa perfect! The food, obviously homemade, delicious and plentiful. I usually pass on the re-fried beans, but these are too tasty to skip. I have had the pork green chile, fish tacos, and chile relleno and loved it all. Obviously, we have returned a number of times. The Margaritas are good and I rarely miss the opportunity to have a Pacifico. The semi circle booths are perfect. The prices are very reasonable. I like to order off the ala carte menu to mix it up a bit. I'm trying to think of one negative ...........still thinking..........

Are you kidding me? Anyone who has a sign that says "it's ok to notice the dust". No way...manager on the phone the whole time we were there and we had a party of eight, just rude. Waiter was the only saving grace cause the food was just passable. Chips and salsa just ok. Not one other person there during lunch tells me burritos are not what's paying for that hummer sitting outside.

We were excited to try some authentic Mexican food since Yuma is known for this cuisine. ATMOSPHERE: Had this funny smell when we walked in like an old building smell. Nasty... Or maybe it was the cleaner they used that day? We eventually got over the smell when the chips came since were were hungry. Also decor was Western cowboy style with horseshoes and cowboy hats everywhere. FOOD: Complimentary chips/salsa - nothing spectacular. I wish the salsa were more chunkier. We ordered: 1. Tamale dish ($4.50) - cornmeal stuffed with a beef mixture cooked wrapped up in a corn husk. The filling tasted like beef stew to me. I have never had a tamale before but it was okay tasting. Dish came with rice and refried beans topped with cheese. Garnished with some lettuce and tomato. 2. Carne asada ($11) - steak that came with the same beans and rice I had plus guacamole. The steak tasted a bit salty but nothing spectacular. PRICES: Total bill came to $20 without tip. We were given a lot of food and took back a plate. I'd say average prices. SERVICE: Greeted and seated promptly. Waitress was very nice and attentive. Overall no complaints. CONCLUSION: Overall not very impressed with the food and we came here due to the multiple high ratings on Yelp for a 4.5 star average. Maybe we aren't that impressed with Mexican food even if it is at its best? Not sure but I'd give some other place a chance around here.

Love this place. Very good food. My husband love the pollo asada dinner and my fav is the bean and rice and cheese burrito. The chips and salsa are very good. The service is always good. The iced tea is very good too.

How is it so difficult to get Mexican food right just miles from the border with none other than Mexico! Chicken Fajitas were bland, arrived lukewarm, no real taste. If I have to add all sorts of condiments to make it tasty then it's not worth it, definitely not the $13.00. The salsa is okay, not all that great, I like that it's spicy though. Others at the table agreed that the food was mediocre. Service was good, then again there weren't any people in the place. Probably not going to come back here, I'll stick with Mi Rancho for what it's worth.

Good is always so good! Service is so amazing. Our drinks are always full and the food comes out so fast. I love their homemade tortillas and the muchaca is heavenly. The only thing that didn't totally knock my socks off was the fish tacos. The fish was kind of dry.

I read the reviews and couldn't decide what to get then I saw this menu item: The macho #1. It is a tamale, folded taco, chile rellano, and cheese enchilada. This is tons of food and $13 so I recommend splitting it with someone who gets something ala carte or a one of the smaller entrees. The cheese enchilada was just a regular cheese enchilada but with a red sauce on top. The folded taco had shredded beef in it and was tender but was a smidge greasy like shredded beef can be. The chili rellano was huge and stuffed with cheese and covered in chunky red sauce. It could have been hotter since the cheese was barely melted inside. Maybe they serve it this way? The tamale was filled with pork and olives with plenty of masa and a red sauce on top. I should have tried this item first because 15 minutes into eating it got a little dry on the end. It was still good under the sauce so I learned my lesson for next time. The beans and rice were both great sides. The salsa is fresh with some kick. The potato tacos are good. Service was good. They serve breakfast on Sunday's. The inside is cozy and matches the wooden mining shed thing from the out side. It is very clean inside with clean restrooms. On a side note. Don't park under the sign in the single spot on the right hand side. The pigeons live on top of it and will poop on your car! You have been warned.

Best tamales I've ever had. Good service, cute little place...BEST tamales EVER. The other menu items I've tried are very good, but I seriously can't get over the tamales. Worth a stop in Yuma!

I ordered the cheese enchiladas with green sauce. The beans and rice were flavorful and I absolutely loved the salsa. I liked all of the food but the green sauce was only okay. The staff was kind and brought us more drinks before we had a chance to even ask. I will definitely try them again, perhaps minus the green sauce. My friend ordered chicken and it looked very tender and juicy. Overall it was a great experience.

  • Steve K.

Pretty bad. Had potato tacos and menudo. Tacos were OK but nothing great. Beans with them tasted like they came out of a can. Tortillas were standard-issue packaged. Menudo tasted like they hadn't got the tripe fully clean. Ate about half of it anyway (I was hungry!). Pretty bad digestive consequences the next day (not the norm for me). I usually give a place the benefit of the doubt on a bad meal/experience but this was bad enough to mention.

Being from Arizona I consider myself a pretty good judge of Sonoran style Mexican food and I was dutifully impressed. Since it was our first time in we tried the smaller combination plate of rolled tacos, beans and rice and it was served hot and tasted great. Service was prompt and friendly. The place was clean and comfortable and not very far from the freeway. We had an opportunity to cool off and get ready to keep driving in the heat of the day satisfied we had found a keeper. Spread the word!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
