I loved this place!! It's Yuma's version of a Benihana's!! I think lunch is a really good deal! Dinner isn't a bad deal either but it's just more expensive! Everything I've had here is really good!! I really like the Yakisoba! They have teppanyaki here which is AWESOME! Dinner and a show!! I heard they get their fish delivered at the beginning of the month, so if you end up going towards the end of the month, your sushi might not taste or be as fresh. You can sign up for this loyalty/members club and it's actually a really good deal! I think it's $10 and you get a $20 giftcard to come back and a keychain. Everytime you show the keychain when you dine there you get free dessert! Not a bad deal!

Bring a group of your best friends, sit back and enjoy the ambiance. Just wonderful, the food and atmosphere is relaxed and fun, the cooks are even more!

2.5 stars. Typical sushi/hibachi joint. Stashed in a mall shopping center, right by a typical movie theater. I suppose I shouldn't expect much for Yuma. Service was ok. Not the best place to get sushi in Yuma.

Absolutely love this place. The food the service the atmosphere are awesome. Every time we eat here the chef just amazes us with their talent. The food is cooked to perfection, just the way you order it. If your looking for a great night out with friends or family then this is your place.

Great sashimi! Best I've had in Yuma. Beware of other sushi places in town. They love to deep fry everything and put mayo sauce to cover awful fish. The escolar and salmon are outstanding for being in the middle of the desert. If your in a small group and James is bartending, sit at the bar. He is very service oriented and will make you feel welcome. It is my goto sushi place traveling from Scottsdale to San Diego.

Was in town for the weekend. Friday and Saturday night was super busy so I went in on Sunday night and the place was about 30% of capacity. The sushi bar was full so I asked for a table for one. The hostess told me there would be a wait for a table. I asked why there would be a wait when there were so many empty tables. She flippantly replied, the waitresses were too busy. She didn't bother to offer an expected wait time or anything. Too bad the owner chose someone like her to be the face of their business, I won't be back.

Just had dinner here, for starters they gave me a complimentary cucumber salad with crab and miso soup. I got the Vegas roll (recommended by sushi chef) and maguro, which is raw tuna over rice. It was superb! Honestly the best I've had. I felt so relaxed here, the ambience is nice and chill. I finished off with a strawberry mochi! It looked like the people sitting at the grill were having fun, the guy was very entertaining. Will return to this restaurant.

Very disappointing. Service was good, food mediocre. Higher prices are ok but shouldn't cut back on quality of food. The Teppanyaki grill is always fun though Hopefully it will be better next time as their aren't many restaurants like this in Yuma.

LOVE this place, great service every time, great drink options and the "yummy yummy sauce" is worth going to. The grill is great for entertainment, especially with the wine flowing. The sushi and sashimi have never disappointed.

Staff was friendly and food was great. What more do you need. Stay away from hibachi and just order off the menu.

  • Kristen O.

Very, very good. My husband and I loved the entertainment from the cook serving our food. I had the chicken teriyaki and it was very good. My husband like his shrimp. The server took good care of us. It is a little expensive. Overall, very good experience.

miso soup & sushi was just ok. Nothing to brag about. The service was not great either. Took forever to take our order & refill my water. Not sure I'd go back. :-/ and what's with another reviewer saying "it's Yuma"? Like we shouldn't expect good quality food because it's a smal town? Not cool.

  • Carl M.

To make it short: the various sushi were fine. It is Yuma and not Tokyo so they do earn some slack: 4 stars for that. Service is very middle of the road, music is obnoxious and too loud, we're down to 3 stars. I've ordered a 'glass of wine' and while I was happy with the quality of the wine (a Coppola for $9.00 a glass) I do take issue with the glass. It was a glass alright filled with a few spoonful of wine. That's a bad joke. We were invited so we didn't want to embarrass our host, but this is absolutely unacceptable: another star lost, we're down to 2 ;(

We came here with a large party to celebrate 3 different birthdays! It was a great place for an adult birthday party. Most of the girls had the teppanyaki grill, but unfortunately I was sitting on the other grill that did not order form it. The chef was very fun, and entertaining. Our waitress Mariah ah was super on top of it, and very kind. I had the sushi (Tootsie roll) and some shrimp steamed dumplings. The sushi was good, but not my favorite. I have my go to places for sushi, but this was still good. The dumplings were good also. My friend got the firecracker appetizer which is a half jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese and some fish then deep fried. I have had this other places, and was not able to finish one roll (TOOOO SPICY). She had me try, and it was really good. I even ate two of them to be a little gordy. This review would have only been 3 stars but the 4 star comes from this! Since it was a birthday celebration they did it extra special, and I can't say I have seen much to compare at restaurants. First they call came out to sing Happy Birthday, but in Japanese. That was cool. Then instead of the lame chocolate Sunday most places offer they brought out each birthday girl this ice cream wrapped thing with different flavors. It was really interesting texture and taste. Everyone was passing it around to try a different flavor! Finally they got us all together in a group, and took a photo. They then went in the back, and printed the photo for us to take with us. The even placed the photo inside a little card saying thank you for celebrating your special occasion with us. HOW AWESOME! I will remember that, and possible be bringing my mom here for her birthday too!! She will get a kick out of it!

Good food decent price. Very busy today which makes me surprised with the low rating and all... Not sure why the ratings are sub par. Guess I will have to further investigate ;-).

First, as someone else said, its Yuma. With that said. The Service is GREAT. The personel is half of the reason I go here. Clean cut, cute and friendly. The sushi is the best Yuma has to offer (not bad) and well priced. Where it gets expensive is the drinks. Thats what brings this place down a little, but its worth it. Other food but the sushi... still good. Have tried most the menu, and I like it. But the Service is awesome. Really. ..und das ist nach der Kritiker

I have been here twice and plan on returning soon. I like sitting at the Sushi bar and watching the chiefs create great Sushi. The staff is very friendly and most helpful. We were there last Sunday evening and the place was pretty full, yet our service was still very prompt. I recommend Ah-So for a fun time and great Sushi.

Decent food at a high price although the sushi is well priced and good for Yuma. I enjoy the experience when Jimmy the local favorite chef is cooking. He has his signature Yummy yummy sauce that many try to imitate but just cant get right. I would love to give it a better score, but the location needs better ventilation. Everyone with in 10ft of you will know you just visited AH-SO. For appetizers I suggest jalapeno poppers. for Yuma locals its a great option for sushi if you can afford Ninja Sushi.

I went to visit my mom in Yuma and this place was close to the hotel and movie theater so I stopped in late my first night and was totally impressed. I ate here 4 times total over 3 days. I only ate at the bar. The bar service was very friendly and they even typed in the wireless code on my Droid so I could watch NFL Thursday since they didn't have that channel. I can only vouch for a couple of dishes as liked them so much I just kept ordering them meal after meal: Their grilled chicken/rice/veggies was very good but I fell head over heals in love with their California roll with cream cheese (the french fries of sushi =] ). The ONLY thing I didn't like was it was so dark I couldn't read my menu at all and had to use the flashlight ap on my Droid.

I really don't understand all the bad reviews. Every time I have gone the food has been great. We usually order the tempura lobster roll, shrimp tempura roll, the seafood yakisoba, and the tempura app. These items never fail for me, they have always been great. We have also sat at the teppanyaki tables, and that has been very entertaining. The sushi rolls are the perfect size and not too big like the other sushi places in yuma. Your meal also includes miso soup, which is delicious as well. It can be a little pricey, which is why I understand if you prefer to go to other sushi restaurants. The restaurant looks really nice and the service is good most of the time. The food is just delicious. I like to stop at Ah-so every time I visit my family back home in El Centro, CA.

You can't beat the teppanyaki experience. Albert behind the bar is the best. Their $5 margarita isn't bad. Fun place. We've never had an issue with service.

We had ate here twice before service is always ok and sushi is decent. The third time we came we waited at our table for 15 minutes and not one waitress that would walk by asked for our drink order or at least say "I'll be right with you" so didn't want to argue with anybody and just walked out. Would not come here again.

Dont understand the bad reviews. I really enjoy Ah-So, one of my favorite sushi restaurants and I prefer it over Benihana. The teppanyaki is fun and enjoyable and I like the sushi. I like to come when I visit in Yuma, great place to meet up with friends and eat good food.

We just had a great dinner at Ah-so. The Hibachi was fun and tasty, and the sushi was delicious. Great service also. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Its Yuma....(my review is for people not from Yuma like myself) Decor is nice....more like a bar feel to it. Lighting is dim...didn't really like it much. Overall the place is nice...modern. Food was not memorable...fish was no bueno during my visit.... Won't spend too much time reviewing this location but I will say...The place is in a nice plaza, the venue itself is not bad...seems like a place to grab a beer and watch some sports but not a place that I will come to eat sushi (though i did enjoy the buffalo wing place across the way!) Not hating on the place but it wasn't my cup of tea. I would say that it is the TOP 3 places to eat sushi in Yuma!! haha!...... 2 stars based against Yuma market...it wouldn't be fair to hold them at too high of a standard...these places would be closed down if it were in areas like LA or Orange County. Okay..i must stop now. =P

Went here with my husband, seems like a very happening spot on the weekend. Our waiter was very attentive and provided us with excellent service (we sat near the bar). Our food was delicious. I ordered the seafood teriyaki (I don't like teriyaki so I ordered it on the side and I'm glad I did, the seafood was delicious all by itself!) my husband got the filet mignon from the grill menu and it was cooked & seasoned perfectly. Definitely will come here again.

Horrible service. Decent sushi. I've been to Ah-So three times and sat at the Sushi Bar. All three times I've had to hunt down the waitress to refill my drink. That's unacceptable. Sushi rolls always crumble when I pick them up because they arent packed tightly. The older gentleman that is usually behind the Sushi Bar always seems annoyed at the waiters. He isn't welcoming. 2 of the 3 times I've had to grab chop sticks from another table because they were not offered to me and I couldn't find the waitress to ask her for them. Just not an overall pleasent experience. The only reason I keep going back is because this is the only sushi place I knew about in Yuma. Ninja Sushi just opened down the street, maybe I'll give that a try.

First of all you leave reaking like you've been frying chicken all day. Service is ok, but the whole menu, not just the sushi, is over priced. $3 edemame! you get that for free at most sushi spots! $6 calamari! and it's not what you think, you get six, count 'em six fish-stick like calamri lincoln-logged into a hut! that's a dollar per calamar. that is unacceptable. the tuna collar is very good but it's $10 dollars! If your not careful and you happen to go at the wrong time you will notice that it appears your sushi was prepared by someone wearing mittens and a blindfold. Upon leaving I took a glance at the sushi bar, and what did I see? There was a Mexican dude doing the sushi!! If you don't know, sushi chefs in Japan apprentice for 10 years just making sushi rice before they even attempt to make a roll! By the look, taste and temperature of my sushi I know this dude was a novice. Over-priced and old news. fugazee

I never tried the sushi here but the teppanyaki is very good. The meat and fish taste good. Only suggestion is that you don't go here before you go out for the night as you will smell of fried rice all night lol. Nice decor and good place to go as a group.

The food was amazing, the service was outstanding, although alittle pricey, BUT you do get quality sushi. Ive been to all the sushi places in Yuma and I recommend this one by far. I am a regular now, AH-SO sushi rules!

  • chris t.

Ill keep it short. Forty five minutes for one order of tuna nigiri and its their policy not to give change on takeout orders. I guess they assume with all the old people and local buffoons in yuma, no one will notice the mediocrity of the food.

LOCATION: Located in Yuma Palms Mall by the theater across the street from Hawaiian BBQ, Buffalo Wild Wings. ATMOSPHERE: I like! Pretty happening on a weekday night but there was no wait to be seated. Space is divided into 4 different areas: patio, bar seating, hibachi grill area, traditional dining area with booth and table seating. FOOD: Selection of sushi although not as extensive as Ninja Sushi down the street and various asian inspired entrees including a hibachi option. I tried: 1. Salmon skin roll - yummy. My favorite of them all! Nice crispy salmon skin inside the sushi giving it a nice flavor which wasn't too fishy. 2. Red on Red - salmon on top with spicy tuna roll with cucumber. A little bland for my liking. Probably not get again. 3. Spicy crab - shredded crab mixture consisting of what tasted like sesame oil, vinegar. Yummy but not my favorite. 4. Seafood teriyaki - yummy! This was my favorite part of the meal actually. Sauce was a bit sweet with hints of soy. Seafood was well cooked with with lots of veggies served with white rice (which I opted for over fried rice). 5. Complimentary miso soup - nice flavor with few chunks of tofu. Typical miso soup. SERVICE: A little slow at first and they took awhile to give spoons for the miso... could use some improvement on timing. PARKING: Mall parking lot can be crowded. I found space behind the restaurant in the JC Penny parking lot. There is parking right behind the restaurant but that's 30 min parking only. CONCLUSION: Good food! Happening atmosphere. Although for sushi I prefer Ninja Sushi, the entrée dish that I had was great. I will be back!

I couldn't wait to express my thoughts on this shame of a place. My wife and I had simply settled on this restaurant based on the fact that: a) It was the only sushi bar in town at the time, and was better than nothing, and b) it was next to Harkin's Movie Theater. This place pales in comparison to other Ahso we've been to in the phoenix area as far as food quality, customer service, and general appearance. As of very recently, however, we've completely stopped going to ahso. Reason? The manager himself, apparently, has no common sense and defends his decision to wear business denigrating t-shirts that say "F*&! ninja sushi!" by exploiting the first amendment. Free to say? yep. Insulting to my wife and I and children of reading age? yep. You decide.

This sushi is NOT good. Basically, it is frozen and then thawed. One of the items I ordered was NOT good. It tasted like it had been sitting outside in the sun for an hour. When I complained, they didn't care. I didn't even eat it, except for a small bite. Did they refund me? No. Did they apologize? No.... This place blows. However, for Yuma.. I guess it is good.

waste of money!!!!!! there is usually a long wait, but when i ate there, i wondered why so many people were coming here. I have tasted authentic japanese food, (born and raised in japan, and being japanese helps ;P), and i feel a little offended that they are calling what they serve japanese food. the sushi is overpriced and so little. we waited 40 mins for our sushi orders but that was after waiting 15 mins to get our menus and another 10 minutes for her to ask us what we wanted to drink. the yakisoba was alright, but for 10 dollars, i would not want to order it again. even my 4 year old daughter was hungry after eating the plate of noodles. about 2 1/2 hrs later (which felt like the longest night of my life) and 140 dollars broker, i would def. not recommend this!!!! yuma needs a better place for sushi and japanese food! i would give it 0 stars if i could!!!! ugh!

yes, they do take a long time.BUT if you get a sake bomb, you will luv the food and service. I live in Nor. Ca. and so far the times Ive gone I get food and their beer has satisfied my taste buds.

WOW! What a sad excuse for a sushi restaurant. The place is the only show in town when it comes to sushi and they take full advantage by offering terrible service and equally terrible food. We ordered a simple appetizer of Yakisoba, which is teriyaki chicken on a stick and it was completely dry and tasted awful. My wife ordered a stuffed Jalapeno appetizer and she had to return it. I got my kids the salmon sashimi for the price of 12 dollars and it is the smallest 6 piece portion of salmon I have ever seen. I had to get 2 additional to fill up my 3 and 6 year old. I figured I would play it safe with the sushi and order a spicy tuna roll and the fish was dry and the roll was falling apart. The only thing I had that was good was the salad for a whopping 5 dollars. The waitress was non-existent and I had to get up several times to get someone to get us water, extra utensils etc. The only thing I could hope for is I save some other people from wasting $80.00 and use that for a tank of gas to get to San Diego and have Sushi that is twice as good for half the price!

  • Ruth W.

Ok, I admit, I've been spoiled all my life. And eating the best of the best sushi is one of the pleasures of being able to go on road trips, from places as relatively close as San Diego or LA, to farther away places such as SanFran, Seattle, or even Palm Springs and Twin Falls, Idaho (Sushi-Ya, I love ya!). Heck, maybe this is why we tend to go out of town more often than I can care. Just to get better food. Just to have the glorious taste of good sushi, or sashimi for that matter. But I digress. I shall write about Ah-So. I was excited (heck, everyone was ecstatic!) to learn that finally Yuma would earn a sushi restaurant, some 3-4 years ago. That meant we didn't have to schlepp to San Diego to go to Todai or Onami LOL. The sushi was GREAT, at first. It simply got downgraded from great to passable (at best) pretty quickly, depending on who was at the helm at the sushi bar. If the Asian sushi chef/s were on that day, you were in luck. Nothing personal about the other guys, especially the only Gringo on the sushi staff. He seemed like he really enjoyed what he was doing. But I realize, sushi making is truly an ART, and one which needs to be taken seriously. And it is taken seriously by people who train for years to earn the title of a sushi chef. (I once read that the novice sushi student in Japan spent a good number of years just OBSERVING his teacher how to make sushi). Anyway, back to the sushi guy I'm talking about. My husband and I have figured out that in order to raise our chances of having a more-or-less favorable dining experience, we would have to call in ahead of time, just to ask who's "on duty" at the sushi bar. If the Asian guy was working that night, woo-hoo. If we were told "that non-Asian guy" was on, we say, "Oh, okay. Thank you" and we would have to go on to Dinner Plan B. But like I said. I'm all about sushi. And it better be made perfect. No less. Here's another sad experience about Ah-So. It must be a case of the proverbial self-fulfilling prophesy. I never did care for the showy, flamboyant, so-out-of-place-in-Yuma teppanyaki type of cooking. And to make matters worse, we had the most inexperienced BUT cocky guy to put on this cooking show for us. First, I didn't like the fact the he was trying to make small talk, and to crack jokes. I've come to eat, darn it. Not to be entertained. So this guy, during the prep phase of cooking, (accidentally?) tossed a cracked eggshell at me, which landed on my newly-purchased silk blouse (birthday gift from hubby). At this point, I was mortified. But I'm a big girl, so I just didn't make a big deal of it. The rest of the lunch, with family and a close friend, has faded into a blur. I just couldn't recover from the eggshell incident, which by the way, left my blouse unsalvageable (who knows how to take off protein stains from silk fabric? Anyone?). Judging from the Friday evening crowd, there's no stopping Ah-So. it's still going strong . Why oh why, Yuma? To each his own, I guess. We've moved onto Ninja Sushi. See my review!

You need microscope to see the fish in the little, baby sushi rolls. The wasabi was good, nice and hot! The place smelt like grease from the teppanyaki tables. I will not be going back.

  • Scot C.

This place gets four stars because it is in Yuma. It is not the best I have had and is quite pricey, but when you are in Yuma and want some sushi this is pretty much where you have to go. Had lunch there once, nothing spectacular but decent. Had dinner at the teppan once as well and it was pretty good. Not the best ever but good and the only game in town.
