Montgomery's anchors a tidy little strip mall in Vail, and has done a great job serving a diverse clientele of suburbanites, cowboys, bikers and city-fleeing hermits. The menu doesn't offer anything unexpected, and the sandwiches and steaks are unexceptional (although the burgers always have a sweet smoky flavor and grill stripes that always impress me). I've been disappointed by lukewarm fries before, but the other sides are slightly above afterthought in taste and appearance (yummy potato salad, creamy cole slaw). The service is excellent, attentive, and down-home. The wait staff call most regulars by name, yet are not so familiar that they become uncouth. The restrooms are almost opulent with heavy copper door handles and pounded copper sinks, which seems incongruous in a small town dinner joint, but Montgomery's takes pride in its singular role as the only show in town that's not fast food. It's worth the short drive from I-10 and consider driving back to town on Colossal Cave Road after a nice dinner here.

Montgomery's is a little off the beaten path but a really good deal if you find yourself in Vail, AZ. It's always happy hour here with $5 glasses of wine and a full bar. I tried the steak and for $13.99 you can't really beat the price for the quality. The sweet potato fries were perfection! I also saw the nachos and the plate was the size of the table. Overall really pleasant dining experience.

Great food at reasonable prices! Very casual atmosphere with a full bar and great happy hour deals. Their Colossal nachos are amazing!

HUGE portion size! I have never had a bad meal at Montgomery's. Kim has been our server several times, she is great! We really like her. We were not aware they offered a fish fry on Friday's, we had the fish, OH MY it was AMAZING! The chicken strips and the nachos are great too. You must check it out if you are in the area.

Went here for prom. Probably not the best place to go before prom, however, the food was fantastic. Only thing was the grill was down so it took about an hour to get are food. But the service they gave while we where waiting (or just cause we where dressed for prom) was great.

This is a decent family friendly sports bar/pub in an area that is pretty underdeveloped. What this amounts to is few options when it comes to dining out and any semblance of nightlife. Enter Montgomery's Grill & Saloon. This strip mall "saloon" offers up decent grub and drinks at affordable prices. The interior looks more like a TGIFridays than an actual saloon. They have a decent patio for fair weather dining. It's also fun for late night drinks and bar munchies. Last time I was here I had an obviously flat beer. I was informed they were changing the keg and the second pint was as it should be. Just wish they were more on top of things and didn't serve a crummy beer in the first place. The food is good. Prime rib dip sandwiches are really good. The fish and chips seemed to be frozen and just mediocre. Hot steam/water or oil doused my plate after taking my first bite of fish which means it wasn't fried at the proper temperature or it was frozen. The batter looked and tasted nice but it easily slipped off the fish. The chips/fries were better but tasted like they were fried in the same basket with the fish. I'd really only return if I wanted a quick drink or some bar food. Not really the place for a nice dinner.

You know, this place was GREAT the first couple of years it was opened... service, food, atmosphere... the works. But now it is just... meh. We came here yesterday to get an early dinner. The place was not very busy at all and seemed well staffed but yet there were dirty tables surrounding the table we were sat at. And they stayed dirty for a good ten minutes... strike one. We both ordered burgers - medium. Mine came well done, strike two. The meat did not taste fresh, hey it was not bad... but not great either for a $10 burger. We had a very sweet server, she was friendly and checked in on us often -- it was the best part of our visit yesterday. We might go back, or maybe not.

Despite the current rating, this place is always packed! I have never had less than a great meal.....meaning the current 3.5 rating is wrong! The food and service are fantastic especially if you ask for Betty! She is the best waitress we have had anywhere....hands down! Their fish and chips and ribs can't be beat! The prices are great especially their $2 dollar beer specials! During football season they have what I call a happy meal....huge chili dog, fries and a beer for 5 bucks!!! Also, ask for their homemade chips and s side of ranch to dip them in....my favorite side.

Good family place. We got good food a burger and a chicken dinner. The wait staff was busy but helpful. I would go back again.

There's not a whole lot of eateries in the Vail area and Montgomery's certainly fills the bill as one of the best. The food comes in generous servings, and is downright good. The service is fast and friendly and attentive. I especially love their fries. It's a little more expensive but I think it's worth it all things considered. It's definitely on my "visit again and soon" list.

Excellent place!! Service is good, beer is cold and food is good! Easy access off of I-10.

This place gets the solid four stars because it is quite literally the best/only restaurant worth going to within almost a ten mile radius. Service is consistent about 80% of the time. I usually sit in the bar area and service is good, but if it gets busy, sometimes things slow down. Overall, this is your typical bar and grill type food. They try and get somewhat creative with a few of their menu items, but there are some solid classics. Get the wings. They are always huge and the sauce is really good. The French onion soup is also very tasty. Lots of ooey gooey melted cheese over the bread on top. Otherwise, everything else I have tried is decent but nothing memorable. That means you can't go wrong really with any of it. And one of the great things is that they have at least two Barrio beers on tap. That in itself makes me happy.

Wow, have eaten here often but... (Ellipsis) yes here it comes. For a local establishment to front off local business is shameful. The bartender could not handle a 6pm crowd and she had so much attitude the waitresses could not ask any thing of her. 30+ minutes for two burgers and of course the worry of "what did you do to my food??" When Vail does everything to keep business local and an establishment employee makes it their every effort to thwart local economic support, shameful. I guess it's back to Nicos ( food is always hot, and better service) with my money! So much for this Vail business needing local support. If Montgomery's has any type of rush or crowd avoid this place like the plague. If they are busy they don't care about customers, and if they don't care then I don't care for them! My money can be spent better in Tucson with a nickel more in gas. Allison it isn't the first time you pulled this but it will be the last, at least for me. Still no change!!! Save your money and go to Tucson for dinner.

gets 1 star for the service and wine. The steak Diane was disgusting. Had so much fat in it you couldn't chew it. The waitress was kind enough to all to exchange it for something else. I've been here a million times and this is a first. Disappointed. Still charged full price though. It will long time before I eat here again.

Had the beef Philly and sweet potato fries. The Philly was very filling and tasted great although very non traditional compared to others I've had. The beef was super tender and the bread really stood out as well. All in all I enjoyed the place and service was good.

(Update ;). Went there yesterday and was disappointed. I normally dont order cheese sticks because they are normally frozen but the menu said beer battered. Nope, frozen and almost 8 dollars....gave them to my husband who will eat anything. I dont mind spending the money for quality but at least be honest with your menu or say your out. They do have really good hamburgers and willing to pay alot for a good burger.

We finally got around to giving Montgomery's a try while we were out in Vail recently. We went in with pretty low expectations, I mean, it's a restaurant in Vail, can it really be good? Well, our experience says, "YES!" It was lunch and the place was pretty close to empty, so we were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. The menu isn't huge, but there's a good variety of stuff, especially in the sandwich/burger department. I decided on the BBQ Pork Sandwich and my husband ordered the half order of nachos. The half order of nachos was HUGE! Easily enough for two people, especially as an appetizer, but more than enough food for one person as a meal. The chips were fresh and warm and had plenty of pulled, seasoned chicken (you can also choose steak or chicken/steak combo), cheese (shredded and cheese sauce), jalapeño, and scallion on them. They also had beans, but they weren't loaded on, which is really nice since I'm not much of a bean person. I picked at the nachos, and I thought they were good. I'm a huge fan of the BBQ Pork Sandwich! Wow, this was good! I wish a restaurant in town would make a pulled pork sandwich this tasty, but I haven't found one yet that does. The pork was so incredibly tender. No chunks of dried up pork in this sandwich! It was also very flavorful. The BBQ sauce is excellent! It was nice and thick, not runny, which helped it to coat the pork very well. It was sweet, but also had a little kick to it. Just downright good stuff. My only tiny complaint was that the bun was a little soft, so all that sauce made it a tad soggy after a while. A side of coleslaw or some pickles would have also helped compliment and balance the fatty and sweet sandwich. But even without any changes, I would eat this again and again! I ordered their house-made chips on the side because the menu and the waitresses raved about them. I thought they were just ok. Maybe a little bit of salt would have helped. They were really good scoops for the BBQ pork that fell off my sandwich, though! The restaurant itself is nothing what I had pictured it would be. I thought this was going to be a little dive bar-esque, but it's not! The place is very clean. The bar is large and in the center, with regular and high-top tables surrounding it. There's plenty of regular seating for families and people not wanting to eat at the bar. The restaurant has a lot of nice rock facade, which makes it look a bit more upscale. There are a few TV's for watching sports, as well. The bathrooms were also very clean. I thought the prices were reasonable. The service was friendly and attentive. Even the waitresses who weren't "our" waitress were nice and chatty with us. Overall, this was just a nice little place to have a good lunch. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Vail!

Hostesses could use more training, i.e. don't seat a middle-aged couple under a speaker when there's music playing. Especially veterans (husband was wearing a service cap and riding vest). This happens every time we go there, even when we ask for a quiet table. The first time we went, we waited over 15 minutes for a waitress to take our order, then decided to leave when they kept walking by us. The second time we went, we asked for a quieter table (got the tall one by the kitchen, I think we're confusing the hostesses, somehow) and got a great waitress. She was on top of everything, friendly, etc. Dinner was great, portions good, and had a great meal - even seated by a table with three screeching children. *sigh* Honestly, when will management teach hostesses how to seat their restaurants - this seems to be an ongoing issue in the Tucson area, which makes no sense. It's a big place with lots of veterans with service-related hearing loss.

I've been here multiple times and always feel it's better than how it's rated. The food is AMAZING! First you need to think about where this is... It's deep in Vail. So there really are not many choices around. Montgomery's stands out though. Their food is well made, and always comes out great. I've had the bacon and blue cheese burger which is probably the best one I've ever had. The blue cheese here is amazing and I'm kinda picky about my blue cheese, I think only A place in tombstone can rival. My husband has had the chicken fingers and the BLT pasta. The pasta was very flavorful and worth a try. The chicken tenders taste home made, but didn't have enough flavor for me. The atmosphere is great. There is a little patio you can relax with friends on. The inside is kid friendly and has a great U bar in the middle. For a neighborhood joint this place is fantastic, and I will be going back many times. Plus for a family of 3 to eat for about $30 with tip is amazing!

My wife and I stopped here for a beer after some nearby hiking. We didn't have food, so we can't comment on that. The aesthetics of the restaurant are very nice, and they have a decent beer selection. But they also have one of the worst bartenders we've seen. She never smiled the whole time we were there, and time to get served was way too long, even on a slow weekday mid-afternoon. Too bad, really. If not for her we'd give this place another two stars.

Good God where to begin... The location is terrible, the ass end of a shopping center yuck. The place was crawling with the children of I guess the servers and or bartenders. More like Chuk E Cheese not any grill and saloon I have ever been to. Of the 4 people at our table 3 of the meals came out cold...seriously how are wings and fries cold??? Worst of all was the attitude the head server Betty had when my father asked for a military discount. Very unprofessional and down right rude. I wouldn't come back if you paid me to eat here. Come on Vail, you deserve better than this poorly owned poorly managed disaster. If there was a Buffalo Wild Wings or Famous Sams ANYWHERE in the vicinity, this place would have closed up shop a long time ago.

I just had Betty's beef stroganoff and it was the best I ever had !!! I have never been disappointed with anything she has cooked up. Her work is top shelf.

First time here. Can't confirm any of the negative reviews. We had the delicious "colossal nachos", a fitting name, they were HUGE! not skimpy on the toppings at all. Also had a happy hour order of buffalo chicken strips, which had a nice crispy breadcrumb coating and a nice tangy buffalo sauce. Last, we ordered the fish and chips. The coleslaw left something to be desired (pretty much just cabbage), but the fish was some of the best I've had in town, a nice crispy beer batter, and good crispy fries. Our server, Haley, I believe the receipt said, was very friendly and attentive. We will be back.

This place is awful. We've lived in Vail for nine years and try it every so often to see if it's changed and it never has. The food is usually cold and tasteless. I don't remember any dish I've had there that has been good. When it comes to the service this is one of those places that you immediately feel like they are put out when you walk I'm the door. I think we have only sat down once or twice there in nine years and the rest has been take out. The service was slow and they weren't busy. I would guess ratings are high because there are few choice in the area and expectations are low. If this was in a populated area I doubt it would be open.

Montgomery's is my favorite place in Vail, and luckily, one of my favorites in all of Tucson! $2.00 shock tops during happy-hour. What's not to love? The Montgomery's burger--onion rings, BBQ sauce, bacon. Love it. Their fries are always awesome. The nachos are ridiculous! Enormous appetizer. Very good. Cajun penne pasta--spiced appropriately, VERY tasty, and good portion size. The service is great every time, and they're awesome to us, which can vary when you walk in with twin toddlers!

This was our 4th time here and we were pretty disappointed. We keep trying and they just don't get past "mediocre". Our Monty burger was small and the patty was overlooked. Not much toppings wise and for 10 bucks it was not worth it. The potato skins were the saving grace...they were fantastic and the portion was huge. Service was terrible, had to wait over 10 minutes before our waitress Kimberly came by and she had major attitude, rushing me through the ordering. We were on the patio. And had to go inside to ask her for things. She checked on us once...just poking her head around the corner and shouting "you guys ok""?" In our general direction...ugh...obviously 10 feet is to far to walk! Like I said we have been here before but it has been hit or miss with the food and service while some items are great others are not...in my opinion it was a waste of $30 and it will be awhile before we go back, If we even go at all.

2015 update: We've stopped going to Montgomery's because they're still stuck on the same menu. No variety, really -- it's become the same old thing and we usually go elsewhere. Would consider going back if the selection was freshened up some. Dropped to 3 stars. We live in Vail and have frequented Montgomery's several times over the past few months. The food is consistently good and the service excellent! In fact, the only reason I've been reluctant to post something on Yelp about Montgomery's is because I'd rather not see it so overrun with customers that the waits get long. Anyway, it's time to share the joy of this great little bar and grill -- Vail has very few restaurants and this one deserves high marks. They also have good beer on tap -- my wife enjoys the "Kiltlifter", and I prefer the Guinness.

This place lacks in general. I walked in ordered a Ruben sandwich...was told they're out of sauerkraut. HOW does THAT happen...its a canned product!! So I said ok...how about some dill pickles on it then? I ran an errand..came back to get it...its sitting ON THE COUNTER ...not even under a heat lamp in the kitchen! It was cool to touch...6 baby slices of dill were in the box..not on the sandwich...the Ruben was lacking meat too...it was a C- at best. The potato chips i had heard were homemade...they were burnt...really...you serve burnt chips. Nearly 10.50 was wasted...NEVER again.

Stopped in for dinner with the family on our way through Vail, looked on Yelp before I went in, had fairly high hopes we would get a good meal, but our visit left a lot to be desired. The waitress was great, zipped drinks out to us, and really provided good service. We placed our order in record time, and less than 10 minutes later, our meals were in front of us. Wife ordered shrimp scampi and was going to share it with my son, after cutting into the shrimp, it became apparent why the wait for our food was so short... it was raw inside. So, back to the kitchen with it, and they brought out another plate which was fine. No excuses for serving under-cooked food, especially ticks me off since my son was sharing with my wife. I ordered their saloon steak salad special and it was a wreck. Lettuce needed at least a few more runs with the knife, the pieces were huge! Second, they tossed in huge chunks of white onion and didn't even bother the separate most of them---there was one piece of red onion, I suspect they ran out of red. Third, they were out of guacamole, which is kinda key for something like this, and although they called it out when they delivered it, they should have checked with me before putting me on the spot so I could have changed my order before it was delivered. Last, salad was supposed to have red bell pepper, but to them, that means one tiny slice. The only good part was, the steak on the top was pretty good. Not worth the money---I expect more. So far, the worst $40 I've spent in a while and I would not go back. Other reviewers seem to have better luck here, so perhaps they were having a really bad night, but I won't be going back.

The food here is descent. They do need a change in menu as there's always the same items and that can get old if you frequent this place. There are two people that work here that are awesome; one bartender and one waitress. Most of the other bartenders don't want to make any cocktails, they just want to serve beer on tap to the locals who apparently are glued to the bar stools. Some of the waitresses barely register in the OK area on the dipstick. Speaking of the locals that are always occupying the entire bar..it's a weird mixture. There are the same bunch of old retirees trying to get you to buy them a beer, rancher cowboy types, old tattooed biker gang types, and a couple of younger tattooed bozos wearing Affliction shirts and backwards hats there every single day. This place seems to only want the same local traffic because of this. Also the main parking area right out front is always full with old rusty Harleys and bright colored mustangs. Not inviting to say the least and something I've learned from watching Bar Rescue. Speaking of Bar Rescue, this place is dying for Jon Taffer to come up in this bitch and wreak havoc.

I was pretty underwhelmed with Montgomery's. Perhaps its because I ordered fish or because of the table we were seated at that was right in the entry way and we were constantly being bumped into. I definitely want to go back and give their happy hour a try and I think it would be a good local place to go watch a game at (Go CATS!). Overall my dish was just very bland and I won't be ordering it again. I was also unimpressed by the looks of my boyfriend's Cajun Shrimp Caesar Salad (which was a special). The shrimp were tiny and looked very dry. He said it was OK. He was, however, pretty happy with the nachos. The only tip I would have on those is not to order the half size portion. I'm sure the full size is too large but the half size was nearly the same price which they didn't mention when they suggested the half size option. Because it's a local place and we don't have a whole lot going on in Vail we'll probably give it another shot at some point and maybe not order the seafood!

I can not afford to eat out very often and I really hate wasting money on a bad meal. This was the second time I've eaten here in the last three months. The meal a couple of months ago was a hamburger and a beer. On that visit everything was good, burger needed a little salt but not bad. I should have stuck with a burger this time, my biggest mistake was ordering a special I should know better. What I ordered was a 8oz. sirloin cooked medium, what came out was three pieces of meat that were maybe 2oz. a piece before cooking to well done. My server asked me how everything was while I was making up my baked potato, I told her it looked good but it was before I checked what turned out to be overcooked steak bits. Two bites and I didn't want anymore steak but on an upside the baked potato was good as well as the well prepared and seasoned mix veg. My server on clearing my plate saw all the protein untouched, asking if I wanted a to go box I told her no. She didn't ask if anything was wrong when every bit of potato and veg were gone. $25 for a couple of beers, potato & veg pisses me off.

We stumbled across this place while out in the area geocaching. If you don't know what that is, think treasure hunt with cheap treasures. What we found was a very nice Bar and Grill with a friendly staff and great food. The inside is nicely appointed and bright, and there is an outside patio. We were there for lunch on a 100 degree day, so not too many folks outside. I had one of the specials, a prime rib dip sandwich that was one of the best I have ever had. My wife had a Reuben sandwich, which they will make with corn beef, pastrami or turkey, and she said it was very good too. She had the corn beef and it was piled high. The prices were reasonable and the service was good. We very much enjoyed this little out of the way place. You won't find this place if you don't live in the area or have a reason to go a couple miles north of I-10 on Vail Road, but it is worth the trip.

I have been here only twice, once just for a drink and to check it out and then once to order the fried chicken salad to go. The salad was quite good, the staff very efficient and friendly, like the atmosphere and the view of the mountains and the patio is pet friendly! So glad it's only a few minutes from home, because we will be back.
