Back with a group of 10. This is a tough crowd but now we're done. It was mayhem and the waitress has my admiration. Our orders spanned the menu. Had the dessert burro but not the limited edition ribs.

I'm biased here! Been here numerous times and always have excellent service! As usual I share the tampiquena and it's fantastic! However my rave is the margaritas......2 and your nice and fuzzy feeling inside! It is a local southern arizona restaurant that will not disappoint!

I have enjoyed dining at Wisdoms Restaurant during the past twelve years that I have made the Santa Cruz Valley my home. This is the finest Mexican restaurant in the Southwest! The food and service is consistently the finest available! The dining environment is historic and yet inviting and the antique bar is a great place to wait for your table. I recommend reservations, due to its excellence, many patrons drive more than a hundred miles to experience what the Wisdom Family has to offer. Enjoy!

Very unique place! Good was not as flavorful as I had hoped or read on yelp, sadly. Pomegranate margarita rocked!!

Oh my 2 for 1 margaritas and delicious tortilla crisp and deliciousness of the combo plates followed by cherry burro desert. Yum and the great atmosphere!

Service was not great, food was horrible. Ordered a fish taco, shrimp taco combination with rice and beans. Shrimp taco was OK, fish was weird- didn't eat, and the rice and beans arrived cold and dried out. The coke was weak and watery. We had been cautioned against dining here and ignored the advice. Big mistake. Never again.

3 STARS for food 2 STARS for service We sat outside on the patio. Great setting and a beautiful day. We had a nice waitress, and if she continued to serve us throughout the meal we would have been much better off. But this restaurant had about 4 other people waiting on us and they were terrible. I just don't get why restaurants have the waitress take the order and then others deliver the food. Who are we tipping anyways? Well, the young man with piercings in his lips served our food and was so sloppy about it that the green enchilada sauce spilled off the edge of my husbands plate and landed on his jeans. He jumped because the sauce was hot. A liability right there. The young man came back with a bunch of napkins and then just left us with no apologies or comments. We told the waitress when she returned and they redeemed themselves by not charging for the chips and salsa. Yes, chips and salsa cost $3.50 here. She also provided a wet washcloth. While I stepped away to use the restroom, upon my return my husband said another busgirl came by to pick up our plates. She had other patrons plates with her and two of their water glasses. In front of my husband she tossed the leftover ice and water over the rail and then left the stacked glasses on our table as she proceeded to clear our plates and then walked away. I called out to the waitress again and said could you please remove these water glasses off of our table? They are not ours and it's pretty gross leaving other patrons dirty dishes on our table. The food was good. I've had better. They tend to drown their food with a lot of shredded lettuce. Portions were average. The service was so bad here I really don't care to eat here again even if the food is good. It was such a bad experience.

When you're this close to the border, you expect authentic Mexican flavors. What I got instead were multiple offerings from blandville. The rice was soggy, the beans were meh, the taco / enchilada combo were almost flavorless. While the service was consistent, and the ambiance was nice, it just tasted like everything was being made for people without a palate. We got one of their famous dessert burritos to go, but they forgot the ice cream so we never got around to eating it. All in all, I liked two things. One, the bacon wrapped shrimp. Two, the giant chickens out in the parking lot. That is all.

We had a group of about 12 people and the place felt very cozy on a cold night. The fireplace inside was awesome. The ambiance at night time was really nice and I was actually really feeling this place. I had the shredded beef burrito, which was ok. The margaritas were basic and the beers were cold. The chips and salsa were really good. I would return to this place for the ambiance and a few beers and chips any time.

Great customer service. Delicious shrimp tacos and the bacon wrapped shrimp are awesome. To much cheese on the cheese crisp.

Tortilla soup is really good No wifi and no ATT phone svc Guacamole is pretty good, fish taco is good but kinda skimpy on the fish, service was great especially considering how crowded it was; this place gets good reviews from a lot of people we know. I was impressed at how well they dealt with packed house at lunchtime. It's worth a try, I think we'll try it another time or to before we're ready to rave about this place, but not a bad start.. Maybe yelp will let me update the review after our 2nd try.

Should I revel in the fact that I'm the youngest person in this place by at least 20 years? I've never cared for my generation anyway. So that's why the more....say mature clientele here suits me. Besides, what the younger crowd demands in glitz and glamor, the older folks demand in flavor and bargains. The the 2-1 margarita specials on Tuesdays seem to meet that criteria.....ahh, nothing quite as dignified as seeing a woman of advanced years curse off another gentleman of advanced years. For this experience alone, I want to rate this place even higher, but assuming that is not an every night event, I'll just stick with the food review. The chips...okay....the salsa, banging! Good spice, estoy contento. Sonoran chicken came with refried beans, which I hate in all forms, so I won't hold it against them, but the chicken was decent, but a few days later, I've forgotten "how" good it was. Dare I call it, "forgettable"? The fruit stuffed burrito was also good, but if you're getting it just to satisfy your curiosity, I'll just tell you how it tastes....like a fruit stuffed churro.

Great food!! This place has been in business 70 years! Family owned for 3 generations. They even offer a Vegan menu that includes black bean enchiladas which were fabulous! Great atmosphere . Highly recommend

One of my favorite places. One of the best (bit exceedingly strong) margaritas that I've had in our various travels. Their fruit burro is very good and the Wisdom Sonoran dog is wonderful and rather unique. Their servers are generally very good though their friendliness varies. Nice patio option - and some good music offerings around the weekends. Getting on their email list is worthwhile for some extras like 2 for 1 drinks.

Wisdom's is a must-do everytime we get visitors from out of town. You have to order the dessert first. The fruit burros are excellent! I love the blueberry but I've heard rave reviews about the other flavors, too. They come ala mode. The rest of the menu is quite good, too. I like the tortilla soup. Yum! If you go to Tubac for shopping be sure to get back in your car and drive a little further south down the access road to Wisdom's. Be sure to get your picture taken with the giant chickens out front but don't go on Monday because sadly on Mondays they are closed. Also, if you continue a little further south, you will find a most excellent spice shop.

Hands down, the best Mexican food of my life. The sweet green tamale, the perfect shreeded beef enchilada, chili relenos deep fried and stuffed with queso fresco, tortilla soup of the gods, and margaritas served in mason jars. I think this place was created with the angels in mind. When they get hungry up in heaven, or wherever they may be in the universe, they can always come here in the middle of nowhere eat and fly away unnoticed. In all seriousness, this resturant is one of those destinations that if you love Mexican food you have to eat here at least once before you die. The desert back drop, the rustic feel of the floorboards beneath your feet, some of the best food you will ever eat, throw in a big chicken statue outfront to boot, and it leaves this place unattainable to match and impossible to forget. So...if you ever find yourself on a drive back from Nogales Mexico, you owe it to your soul to pull off of that long stretch of desert highway and dine here among the angels. You'll never forget it.

We dined here despite warnings from friends that this place was overrated. We should have listened. The food is okay, but the service is awful. Our waiter took orders from diners who arrive after us. We waited 40 minutes for our lunch, all the while watching several diners that arrived way after us get their food. We questioned the manager who said that my husband's steak was the reason for the long wait. 40 minutes for a medium rare 4 oz sirloin? Really? The food arrived finally and we asked for some sort of consideration for the wait and poor service. He discounted one meal by 50% =big deal. We waited another 20 minutes for our bill - we left the waiter a $.94 tip which was more than he deserved. I know that servers make awful money and we always tip at least 20% or more. But, this guy was a total loser and not interested in making sure we got our food. The prices here are awfully high for mediocre Mexican food.

Good Mexican food near the Tumacacori Mission. Really tasty ground beef tacos (must ask for ground beef instead of shredded beef) and chile rellenos. Great Margaritas! A must stop while heading south on I-19 or shopping in Tubac or Santa Cruz Chile Company spice store.

Went for lunch after spending the morning shopping in the Tubac artist's colony. It was recommended to us by the local shop owners. Delicious Mexican food served by friendly staff. Had "Lila's special" with shredded turkey. Ordered the chocolate and blueberry desert burritos which come with a scoop of ice cream - yum. Will definitely go back next time we are in the area - have to try their margaritas which are known to be the best.

The fruit crisp was amazing, definitely order first; the chocolate one is the BEST!!! Turkey burrito was delicious, the turkey was extremely moist, cheese crisp was outstanding! Excellent service, great food.

As you drive South on Highway 19 toward the Mexican border, you will be confronted with a very, very large chicken. You will wonder why the heck it is there. That my friends is the sign that you've arrived at Wisdom's Cafe. The chicken, and of course the restaurant have become iconic in Southern Arizona. This eclectic Mexican joint has been run by the Wisdom family for generations. Herb, the patriarch, rises before the sun to start cooking. This is home-made, lovingly prepared food. You will undoubtedly be greeted at the door by one of the members of the family. Once seated, which may take awhile, you will find items such as burritos, enchiladas, tacos and of course their "world famous fruit burro". The fruit burro looks like a chimichanga, but is filled with an ooey gooey fruit filing. Is is topped with cinnamon sugar and served with a dense delicious vanilla ice cream. The food and the restaurant are not fancy, their just plain 'ole good. They often have specials, and live entertainment. If your in these parts, you would be remiss not to visit Wisdoms.

Good food and plenty of it. Delicious chile relleno, cheese crisp, and nachos with salsa. The fruit burro dessert is very good too. It's an eclectic place but the food is great.

Had to make the pilgrimage down to Tumacacori to try the fruit burrito. It was good. Really good. Not worth a drive from Tucson, but worth getting if you're passing through. It's actually a sweet chimichanga dusted with sugar and cinnamon and pressurized with your choice of fruit. We tried the pineapple-cherry, which rocked. With the accompanying vanilla ice cream, It's an effective paring of temperatures and textures. Order one. Or two. Or lots. But order them first, because they take a little while. The entrees were pretty good, though the menu is tuned to the palettes of the local snowbirds--only the most mainstream north Mexican dishes are available, complemented by a fair number of burgers and sandwiches. Their shredded beef burrito was fine: subtle flavor, average heft, minimal grease. Their green corn tamale was laughably small, overpriced, and under-flavored. The house salad was far better than most diners, but nothing you couldn't slam together with three ingredients from Trader Joe's. The staff was nice and the service was prompt. Basically, Wisdom's is an okay pseudo-Mexican diner with a killer dessert gimmick.

This is one of my parent's favorite Mexican food restaurants and I've learned to appreciate it for what it is and what it could be. Prices are a little on the high side, but well worth it. You can get authentic Mexican dishes and the American counterparts that everyone seems to love. Chimichangas are very good which just about every Mexican restaurant in Tucson can make, but none as good as here. The true judge of a restaurant is the cleanliness of the restroom, which not only reflects the cleanliness of the kitchen. I don't care how good something tastes, but the restroom should be tidy, showing that the owners care about the customers. The restroom is a closet. Tiny. Airplane tiny. It's dirty. Old gas station dirty. If I hadn't already finished my meal, I would have left without eating. The door barely closes, and when you do get it shut, there is only a small eye-hook latch to keep it shut. I won't be going back until they remodel.

Good food and a great eclectic little place. It feels like you just walked into an antique store or maybe your grandmas house...because nothing really matches or anything, its just a nice homey place. I went with a group of friends and we were greeted by all the great folks walking out of the place, in a good mood after a good meal. Now, me and my friends are all under 40, which sets us apart from the rest of the crowd around here, mostly over 70, or somewhere near the age of the dirt outside. That being said, the place closes at 8, so you have to make sure to get there early, especially if you plan on getting dessert. Which leads me to the ordering process waitress came over and got us drinks and we ordered chips and salsa. We got both salsas (normal and pineapple-mango) both of which tasted great and fresh. They keep bringing you chips once you order them, but I guess I expect chips and salsa to be free at a Mexican joint. Once we ordered our drinks (mango margaritas rock! and have real pieces of mango in them) our waitress disappeared for a while. We had gone through 3 rounds of chips before she came back around to take our order. I got the tampiquena, which was great. A little bit of steak, an enchilada, and a chile relleno. The enchilada tasted just like our family recipe which just made it all the better. The chile had a great batter on it, and was filled with great cheesey goodness. The steak was small, but as an entire meal, just enough...They brought out one tortilla for me, but it was the size of a tire! So I just broke it up and made it into enough for my meal. According to some of my friends, the fish tacos looked and tasted great, the soup was awesome and generally everyone was happy with their meal. We did order dessert, the fruit burritos, which were tortillas wrapped around pie filling, deep fried, and then dipped in cinnamon and sugar...just plain awesomeness! One note, they tell you that in order to get dessert, you have to order it with your meal because it takes a while...but I highly recommend you save or make room for one of these burritos. We had the cherry, blueberry, and apple burritos and all were quite tasty. I gave it three stars because the service was just so-so and the fact that I had to pay for chips and salsa, which just seems like a free staple to me. I would definitely return when I go back to to the area. One last note, the price of everything seemed a little high, but still a decent bargain.

I love Wisdom's and look forward to it each spring when I visit my parents in Green Valley, AZ. During snow bird season it can get very crowded, so expect a short wait if you go during prime lunch or dinner hours. Don't let a possible wait deter you though, this place is worth it!. They are famous for their dessert burritos, I have had the blueberry one and it is delicious. They are also branching out a bit and offering other dessert burritos besides fruit, I wish I would have tried the chocolate and marshmallow one on my last visit (4/10/12) but we went for lunch and I didn't want to eat a full meal and dessert. Speaking of the meal, there are a number of traditional Tex-Mex dishes on the menu, not so many traditional Mexican dishes, but their dishes are well prepared, and generous portions. I always get the Turkey Chimichanga. Wisdom's is the first place I have been that offers a turkey meat option, and man is it good. The turkey is shredded, and well cooked. They serve the chimi dry but I asked them to add a tomatillo sauce and they happily obliged. Chimi was served with rice and beans, I didn't get any rice, the beans were fine. The one drawback, in my opinion, is that they charge for chips and salsa. We didn't get any, and didn't need any as the food portions are generous. My lunch companions had the Taco Salad with Beef and a Quesadilla. The taco salad was what you would expect, a fried flour shell filled with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, no surprises there, served with sour cream, salsa and guac (the guac was wonderful!). The quesadilla was a nice surprise, it was huge, and full of meat and cheese, very flavorful (I was lucky enough to get a taste!). Lastly, I will comment on the Margaritas; some of the best I have ever had. The owner has a secret recipe that he won't share, and I understand why. The drinks are well made, a little on the potent side and taste very fresh. Order one on the rocks with or without salt, they are great either way. A trip to Wisdom's is a must when you are in the area, you won't be disappointed.

Can you say 2 for 1 margaritas on Thursdays?! The owner is not shy of pouring too much alcohol in his famous margarita mix. And..if you're lucky, he'll show you his Championship MLB rings from back in his glory days. Great food and awesome atmosphere!

We came with our bike group- the cafe was asked the day before if they could accommodate us- we filled 4 tables, but there seemed to be only one waitress for the entire place- it took a long time for her to take drink orders, serve them, and then take food orders. We only ordered the tortilla soup and a salad. It was an hour before we were served- the first table was finished eating. I would expect soup to be easy, served quickly, since its prepared. The advertised menu item was their specialty tortilla soup- with turkey, beans, vegetables. As another woman with us got hers, she turned to us and said, this is nothing more than canned vegetable soup- which it indeed was! Watery broth, with a few canned veges, no beans. I had an inch long piece of what looked like chicken, and my husband had none. It seems they had not made their wonderful soup that day, and chose to fake it, and badly. The other person refused to eat hers, but we were hungry, ate some. Had we been by ourselves there, we would have complained to the manager/waitress. As she was trying to give everyone their bill, and get paid, we decided to just pay and get out. very disappointing. Not up to what reviews say at all We paid $20 for one salad, and 2 bowls of canned soup?

Wisdom's Cafe is a little Gem of a place that has a rather "cult" following of people from all over SE Arizona. Their claim to fame is their WORLD FAMOUS FRUIT BURRO DESSERT! You can choose Apple, Blueberry, Cherry or Peach. My favorite is the blueberry. It's kind of like a chimichanga--fried burrito--except this one is all rolled up in pastry instead of a tortilla. It's rolled in cinnamon sugar after frying. They take your order for these at the time you order your food because they are always prepared fresh and they need some time to properly prepare & cook them. One is DEFINITELY enough for two people--try it with their, very fresh, very tasty vanilla ice cream. Their other claim to fame is their chicken statues. They're made of fiberglass (I think) and one of them used to have antlers, however these have succumbed to time and weather and are now just broken nubs. Decorated in "old cowboy" style, there are wagon wheels and interesting "artifacts" everywhere. The food at Wisdom's is good, Mexican style cuisine. They serve some very tasty Margaritas--Large for the big drinker which is HUGE and served in a large mason jar and Small for the average drinker served in a very small hi-ball glass. They are just south on the frontage road from Tubac, AZ (on the left). It is a small artist town which caters to locals and travelers alike. There is also a very nicely preserved "Presidio" and museum at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. If you're in the area either at Tubac or the Santa Cruz Spice Company in Tumacocori, AZ, you should stop by Wisdom's Cafe. You won't be disappointed!

Slow but good food. Very friendly and tasty food. The turkey chimi was outstanding and everyone enjoyed their desserts. The decor is very campy and rustic and the men's room is more of a man's room and it extremely tiny I mean airplane tiny. We went their because my mother in law wanted to drink the best margarita in the world. If best means the strongest then she was in agreement.

We greatly enjoyed our lunch at Wisdom's. The service was prompt and our food was very good. The salsa and chips appetizer was marginal as the tomatoes in the salsa were not ripe but that may be due to the time of year. Our server returned to the table on a regular basis to refill drinks and see if we needed anything else. Worth a return visit.

My aunt and uncle convinced us that we must try Wisdom's. They spoke highly of the fruit burro, a fried burrito filled with fruit and topped with Cinnamon and sugar and served with with vanilla ice cream. But, first, we had the chips and salsa which were crispy and greasless; the salsa zesty and spicy. The special, enchilada delmar with fresh seafood is excellent with succulent prawns, scallops, and crab meat in a lemon cream sauce with fresh corn tortillas; the citrice salad is excellent with romaine lettuce, pineapples, tomato's, cucumbers, and almonds in a lite citrice dressing. Butch and Candi, I should have listened to you when you recommended an appetizer before dessert as I left feeling like a Waste Management truck. But, it was worth it. The fruit burro was to die for; crispy yet not overly crispy with fresh warm fruit (the flavor of the month which was cherry and pineapple) with sugar and Cinnamon and smooth vanilla ice cream. The service is very friendly, the staff very kind and knowledgeable, eager to please. Be warned. This place has a colt following as lines form before they open. I love the old atmosphere. Also, this is in a sketchy neighborhood which is safe if you stay out of trouble. So, for excellent Mexican fare at reasonable prices with friendly service in an old atmosphere, Wisdom's cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!

Good not great. Thankfully I'd been warned in advance that they charge additionally for chips and salsa on the table. The salsa choices sound great, but are lackluster and disappointing. Even with conservative dipping, the salsa to chips ratio is horribly askew. Main course was far from exciting. A familiar little squirt of pureed refried beans was the only real bit of flavor I experienced on the whole plate. Our table was approached by so many different people trying to take our drink and food orders, it was chaotic. As we were raising our first sips of beer to our lips I was asked by a server: "can I get you started with some drinks?" . Uhhhhh....? In the end, not only did I not know who the hell I was even tipping for the service, but I honestly believe if we'd left our table, and immediately re-entered through the front door, any one of our many servers would have attempted to seat us without recognizing our faces. A drive into Tubac is always worth it, so long as Wisdom's is not your sole destination .

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I've been to so far. The margaritas are fantastic. The food is fabulous. The staff is very friendly. The decor is perfect for what it is. Fun, unpretentious, you'll have a great time.

A must visit. I go everytime i am in town The best margas. Started with fresh salsa and guacamole. And a cheese crisp with green chilis. Awesome. Then had the tortilla soup. So flavorful! Just divine! I crave that soup.

One of the best Chili Rellenos I have ever had. I must go again to test and retest ... haha. Desert Enchilada was superb .... oh yummmm. Margarita was forgettable. Place gets packed later in the eve so go early. Cool, old rustic setting. I will go back for more.

We stopped at the Wisdom Cafe on Friday, 2/20/15. First of all, the Margaritas were GREAT. Four of us had a beef burrito, chimichanga and the ladies had a Mexican pizza. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Look for the White chicken outside the restaurant on the frontage road. You will not be disappointed

The service here is terrible. We waited almost 10 minutes just menus. Took 40 minutes to get food. This was at 130 in the afternoon. Fish and chips were great. However my husband ordered a bean and cheese burrito.and it was not half as good as taco bell.

  • Mary Z.

The food was average I ordered Cliffs burrito but it was bland no Chile just shredded beef and beans no Chile flavor it was bland. The plate comes hot so the lettuce was fried, no cheese except a tiny bit with the lettuce. The Margs were awesome!!!!!! If you come here as a solo expect to wait much longer than anyone else and they may forget you. Overall under whelming.

My wife and I are staying at a resort up the street. There are many options available. This place had just what we were looking for. I love crispy chilli relleno's. They were fantastic. Tamales and enchiladas were fantastic as well. I would drive the 3 hours from home just to eat here. Highly recommended.

Visit the CHICKEN! (It's huge. It's out front. You can't miss it). Wisdom's is a local joint that serves up delicious Mexican food (with a few other items for those of you who can't handle the local flavor). They serve up a lot of turkey dishes (which you just don't see that often around southern AZ) - I love the option since it's so flavorful and juicy. But my favorite thing on their menu is the Tampiquena. It's a huge plate of food (don't get any appetizers if you think you want this one... or share appetizers AND dinner). The steak was perfectly cooked, the chile was creamy and delicious, and the cheese enchilada was the perfect companion. Some places serve their steak Tampiqueno with a mole sauce- I much prefer their regular red enchilada. BUT - save room. Order a fruit burrito for dessert. You have to order at the beginning of the meal so they have time to craft it, and they always have a flavor that's in season - along with apple and cherry. Think: deep-fried delicious pie. With vanilla ice cream. EASILY a shareable dessert. I make it a point to stop here every time I'm visiting the area. Don't miss it.

  • T. K.

Unimpressive. I have been there four times and every time we leave we wonder why we stopped. The food is okay. What you get for $12 at this place you could get on the south side of Tucson for $5 and the meat would have a better flavor. The margaritas are mediocre. Strong but from a mix. The service is never good even if they just opened. This place thinks to much of itself.

  • S R.

Service was friendly but extremely slow, the food is maybe half a step up from taco bell. 8.99 for a burro which didn't even come with rice and beans just a sad little burro on a huge plate. The tortilla soup was made with canned veggies. They charge extra for salsa and chips , you'd think with thier outrageous prices it would be included. The fruit burros are a cool idea but the generic pie filling was nothing exciting . After driving a long way to try it out, it was extremely disappointing . If I want bad mexican food I cant stay in my own neighborhood.

  • Dana B.

The food was average and the service was 1 star. It may be because of a large group , but that's not an acceptable reason. Today I had to wait an inordinate amount of time for our bill. This is my third visit and I'm not going back.

Superb food & service. The best green corn tamales and other delicacies are found here. I'll be back in a heart beat!

  • Ross H.

Luckily we got here in time so that we didn't have to wait. The service was below average. The food was average for mexican- seemed very americanized, though it was fresh and the beef had good flavor. They charge extra for chips/salsa which is ridiculous. The dessert burros were a unique thing that is notable. I had the apple, which is like what the McDonalds hot apple pie is supposed to be. If I was in the area again I would give a return visit- not a place I would seek out.

If you come for the margaritas, make sure you have a DD because they are strong! I don't really remember what I ended up eating after my 2nd margarita. Great food, friendly service. Definitely a gem of a place. I love to visit this place when I visit family in southern Arizona.

Awesome place! I had the enchilada special which wasn't on the menu. I saw the photo on Yelp so I asked about it. They don't always make it but said that they had the ingredients tonight so they could. It was a bit weird, but OK, I got them and they were AWESOME! We were also fortunate to know someone who knew someone who could get us a table reserved. Normally, from what I understand, when the snowbirds are still around, the place stays very busy and it's difficult to get a table without a wait. Oh, and be sure to try the fruit burro. You have to order it before dinner as they take a while to make. It was great too! Anyways, I'll be back for sure on one of my future trips to the area.

Great enchiladas. Recommend turkey w tomatillo. The margs are good and very potent. Is there uber down here? Great family owned place. Enjoy it!

I have been coming to Wisdoms for 20 years and their food and service has always been outstanding. Definitely get the fruit burros if you like dessert! If you like margaritas, start with one and then see how you feel before you order #2- they are stronger than you might think! Definitely always order a cheese crisp with green chiles for an appetizer. We LOVE this restaurant! No trip to southern AZ is complete without eating at Wisdoms.

I had dinner here with a friend on a Saturday night recently. Even though the snowbirds are gone it was very busy! We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table which was no problem. The staff was very friendly and courteous. There was live music for entertainment and that was great. The food was good (I had the Sonoran Chicken) and the fruit burrito was amazing! Be sure to place your order for the fried fruit burrito when you order your dinner because they take some time to make. The docor is really fun, too! I definitely give this place a thumbs up!!!

What an amazing find that is rich with history (since 1944)!! We had the pineapple salad - perfect amount of greens, fruit and dressing along with and fish tacos for lunch. We shared a pomegranate margarita with salt and their famous fruit burro (chimichanga) with blueberries a la mode! The prices are reasonable and the service is great. Ladies, check out the bathroom for two surprise posters. We left feeling stuffed and happy. Ps - tues is two for one margaritas

Right on the main and only road of a town that's basically just a wide spot, but not conspicuously signed and hard to find. Just north of the National HIstoric Park. And worth stopping at. To the regional specialty of the Sonoran hot dog, which is a frank in bun topped with beans and cheese and a bunch of other stuff, they have a variant which they call, confusingly, the "Sonoran dog", which is the same extra stuff but on top of some large shrimp. I had that, and, like the other Sonoran hot dogs I've had, it was bland until you added salsa. By the way, the salsa on your table that they say is hot? Believe them. What gets this place its fourth star is the fried dessert burrito, with fruit filling (your choice). Light and crispy and not at all greasy, but covered with cinnamon sugar and really good. And big, far more than I wanted to eat at once after a meal.

Everyone raves about their fruit burritos, which I found nothing special at all. The fruit is canned glop, in a burrito. I could make that at home, but I wouldn't want to. That's all I've ever eaten there, so can't comment on other things on the menu. Their margaritas are delicious.

Nice rustic/vintage decorations inside and out give it a great feel. Strong, great tasting margaritas, and the salsa that was served with the chips seemed very fresh, like it had just been mixed in the kitchen. The Santa Cruz hot sauce on the table also has great spicy flavor without numbing your mouth with heat. I had a fish and shrimp taco each, the fish was great and the shrimp wasn't bad either. Really wanted to try the green corn tamale but they had run out at the time. Finished off with two raspberry cream cheese burros split among four of us. Crispy fried tortilla with fruit filling, can't go wrong with that. And it may sound weird, but try putting a few drops of the hot sauce on it, the flavors really go well together!

A friend and I stumbled across this place last night after exploring the old mission at the Tumacacori National Historical Park. The place was packed when we pulled up. It took us about 20 minutes to get a table but there was plenty of room to wait at the bar. The margaritas are definitely happening drink. I had steak fajitas; Mike had the giant hamburger. Both were absolutely fantastic. Our servers were attentive, kept our drinks filled, and were very friendly. For dessert we had to try the world-famous fruit burro - A fried burrito filled with fruit, we chose peach, rolled in cinnamon and sugar and served with a huge group of ice cream. Mercy, that was deeeeelicious. The restaurant was founded by the Wisdom family in 1944 and is now run by and their children and grandchildren. A fascinating piece of Southern culinary Arizona history... and the food ain't too shabby either.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
