Wok&Roll is one of the fairly new restaurants on the scene, having opened about six months ago. I was impressed. The restaurant has an open and comfortable feel. Word on the street is that this was once a Sizzler's steakhouse. But it feels completely different. I like the light motifs on the walls, which complements well with the dark wood vinyl and brickwork. It gives the space a slight feel of sophistication unlike many buffets, which, quite honestly, are too often dank, sticky pits -lowly culinary hangouts. So, yes, I appreciate that Wok&Roll was some brightness to it. The benefit also comes from a couple of skylights installed. Great idea there. You get the option of sitting in the booth near the buffet lines, or on the other side, which has a nice barrier wall that helps to drown out the sound from the buffet. There is also a back room. I appreciated the immediate greeting from a host, who provided a booth seat promptly. Also, the service is very attentive and kind. Christina, who served me on my first visit, is especially helpful. For us introverts, there's a warning. The place gets pretty busy, and while the acoustics do a pretty good job muffling the noise, you are bound to run into folks who are entirely too loud and fall to the lower end of the scale when it comes to manners. This seems true of most buffets - why is that, I wonder? Now, to the eats. I went for the Sunday buffet, which costs about $16 (they only serve the dinner buffet rate on Sundays). You can also offer from the menu, with sushi starting in around $2.50. The buffet is staffed by two sushi chefs, which replenish the boards on the regular. You have the option of sashimi, nigiri and rolls. I found that the sushi was pretty good! Pretty good. Sure, the salmon wasn't bursting with luster, the wasabi wasn't spicy and the boards could have used a quick wipe down - as some were caked with sauces - but it was tasty. The rice was prepared well, too - not dried out at all. The variety is great. There are several rows of hot food with offerings that include baked salmon, rangoons, chow mein, lo mein, honey chicken, beef with broccoli, pepper steak, crab legs and several soups. I love that they clearly mark the names of their food! Also, their steamed rice has an especially light and fluffy flavor. Very good! Also, Wok&Roll provides an entire section devoted to salads. They also have fresh fruit. And they have ice cream. And they sell beer, wine/sake. Nice spot!

I really did go in with an open mind after seeing some pretty positive reviews on Yelp, but I just was not impressed. Let me explain myself: The atmosphere was rather cold and felt really empty, like they hadn't put all the buffet tables out. I was hoping the sushi bar would be the highlight of my week, but everything seemed pretty much the same. All the rolls were either avocado, crab, and cream cheese or the the tuna, avocado, and cream cheese combo with different things on the top of the rolls. Normally I can eat tons of sushi but the two combos got kinda old after a while. I moved on to the Chinese food buffet hoping to be wowed, but alas I was not. The fruit had no juice and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, and the veggies were chewy. Everything else was rather bland and did not taste fresh. The only good part were the massive crab ragoons! In the end, nothing sets this place apart from the other mediocre Chinese buffets in Tucson. Why two stars? Service was friendly and the sushi bar is good for a little while. Ok time for the important part....the Dessert review: Ice cream was nice because it isn't the watery goop usually passed of as ice cream at these buffets. Yes Tucson, the serve actual ice cream you have to scoop from a tub! I know I was excited too. And dont worry, I ate enough for all of you. Therest of the dessert is the typical pudding, cream puffs, and cakes. All tasted very generic and like they had been sitting fir a long while. Dont come for the dessert, but if you get stuck here....you always have the ice cream.

This is the only Asian buffet I will eat in in Tucson. Not everything is overly fried like in others so you won't get nausea walking away. There is enough of a choice of fresh, steamed foods that allow room for more. The sushi is freshly made and they actually have the best tiramisu I've eaten. Service here is a plus. Everyone is extremely friendly.

I am conflicted on what to say on this review. It was good... not great....but solid. I found the egg foo young very tasty and the egg drop soup was hot and tasted fresh. Now, on to the sushi......90% of it was cream cheese, avocado and crab but with different stuff on top. There was not a lot of variety. I am not a big fan of sushi but being a yelper I feel obligated to trying as much as I can ;) I liked the sushi I tried but again there really wasn't anything imaginatively different to push my boundaries. The ambience is lacking and it has a very cold and industrial feel to the entire restaurant. The warmest and nicest area was the woman's restroom lol! service was prompt and friendly. Bottom line: Food: some tasty but what didn't taste good really didn't taste good! price: a bit high for buffet. You can find equal Asian buffet for less money. Atmosphere: bland and cold

We have been on two Sunday's. Once was Mother's Day which was yesterday. The food was exceptional. Sushi bar was AWESOME!!!! Crab legs to die for. I live 45 mins away and I will go at least once a month. My friends that joined me were stationed in Japan and they want to go back this Sunday. The staff is extremely friendly. Love the sushi chefs. If you do not like this place you must be extremely picky and should stay home and cook for yourself. . I sure hope this place is open for years. Update... Just went back last Sunday and it was exceptional!!!!

This place was amazing especially the staff which is rare because Asians are usually quiet lol from my experience, anyway they were awesome here very talkative and polite and very professional! Did I mention the food was amazing?! Raw oysters! Loved it!!

Great place. Clean and the food is fresh. I am very particular about oysters, even in nicer restaurants. These oysters are lovely and fresh. Nice little sushi bar as well. We will be back.

What a pleasant surprise! Everything was great! From the tea to the crab legs and everything in between. They really know how to take care of their customers. Can't wait to come back to try their menu and the buffet again. Without a doubt, the BEST BUFFET in Tucson!!!

It might be that this review is a result of my cutting way back on processed foods in recent years. I have noticed since doing that if there are too many ingredients in a dish it tends to taste muddy like a oil painting that has been overworked. So take this with a grain of salt (pun intended) I've eaten here twice. I found the sushi side of the restaurant good. The cooked side of things however with the exception of the coconut shrimp was mundane at best. I don't know if it's because they use the same oil to cook everything in, but it seemed like no matter what I ate, everything tasted the same. You know how when you sit down to a home cooked meal after a few bites you're ready for some other taste to be in you mouth so you move from your meat dish to your veggie dish? Well here there's no doing that because it all tastes the same so that after a few bites your ready to leave, out of palette boredom thinking to yourself... hmm I wonder if KFC is open (next door)

This place is new model and new owner ... The place is simple and very clean ... Sushi bar have a lot of different roll and different kind of sushi and sashimi on the weekend ... The service is very nice ... They refill your drink very quick.... They also have a lot Choice like there roast beef very tasty.... People who work are very kind and polite... Week day the price for lunch $9.95 dinner is $12.95 weekend dinner is $15.95 even though the price are high but they have a lot of seafood on the weekend like fresh oyster ,crab legs , and jumbo salt pepper shrimp a lot of sashimi .

This place is not good. I rarely write reviews but this has to be said. The food was terrible and I really love Chinese food but I could hardly stomach this... The seafood was definitely not fresh ... The crawfish and shrimp were grey for goodness sake... I then tried several other non - seafood dishes which were just as bad if not worse - two of them were cold.... Determined to at least get something to eat for my $15 I went with the sushi - didn't even dare try the tuna or salmon as they were pale and smelled but instead I went with the California and Krab and cheese rolls - I know you would think how can you mess up a California roll right - well guess what the cream cheese tastes like margarine it was awful!! Finished the night off with some crab puffs and I'll say those were actually decent and the kids had the brownies and Chinese donuts which they told me were good... So the moral of this story - if your in the mood to take your family and friends out for a meal of crab puffs and brownies then look no further!! Otherwise u may want to seriously reconsider!!

Was excited to try the place. The name kind of indicated they had a. Hibachi station. Where you pick your lickings and they grill in front of you. Disappointed that the selection of food wasn't that much for a place you're paying 15.95 per person. FOOD- that's where the stars really go to. They're food does seem a lot more tasty than regular Chinese buffets. Sushi looked fresh SERVICE- we arrived at 8:30; they closed at 10! There was enough to time to eat. Around 9, they were moving tables around us and rearranging things. Which is fine because I'm glad they clean every night but it was overly loud. Booths were screeching and such. Really unpleasant. They starting putting sushi away and cleaning up at 9:15 and we were not the only party there! Don't live close to here so I don't think I'll make an extra trip out again unless I happen to be in the neighborhood and craving a buffet.

Wok & Roll only opened about10 days wife and I had dinner there last night $ 15.95 on weekends,ok you say thats alot when most Asion Buffets are about $ 10.95 or less. However here you get what you pay for, Raw Oysters nice and sweet and cold.tender seasoned Calamari,Mussels,Shrimp cold or cooked,Lobster how many Buffetts serve that None. A huge Sushi bar and the staff all speak english and so very friendly,if you love Sushi and sea food give this place a try..................don't just look at the price and they give Senior Discounts.

At $16.95 plus tax for a Chinese buffet I think I'll pass. I tried it once and was not impressed one bit. The typical Chinese fare was truly no better than any other that I have eaten at. Sure, they have Sushi and real ice cream. Big whoopie! New Town Buffet not only has Sushi, they also have a cooked to order Mandarin grill with better food to boot for about $10. When one is paying nearly $40.00 for a Chinese buffet for two it had better be something very special... It wasn't. Wok & Roll was a total waste with mediocre food and very poor dining value. The food isn't all that bad. I just left the place feeling cheated after my wallet ruptured paying for food that was just, Meh. But it seems like there are folks here that will disagree with me. So, if you have more money than you know what to do with, then give it a try. You know what they say about opinions. :-)

Beautiful restaurant horrible food. 37 minutes in their very nice toilet with explosive dia......... Well you get the picture. Shrimp mushy, calamari rubbery.

This has to be the best oriental buffet ever. Classy inside, with amazing, fresh sushi, fresh seafood. This is no cheap buffet (by that I mean crappy food, THE PRICE IS CHEAP), the food is fantastic and the place looks great. I am totally impressed.

I've been here before with some co-workers & decided to try this again last Wednesday at 1pm. 5 for 5 Stars: Service: 5/5 Quality: 2.5/5 Selection: 2/5 Value: 1/5 Service was excellent. The gal who kept my drink full all the time was personable, friendly and made small-talk all throughout my visit. By end of the day, she knew me by name and invited me to come back next Wednesday. Quality was Average at Best: The Wonton Soup was Excellent, probably the best I've had in a while but I had to ask for it to be replenished. The Beef and Broccoli was Excellent as well. The chicken wings were warm at best and the Lemon Chicken tasted good. The Lo Mein was average. They had Pork Egg Rolls which were a plus. Selection: Wok & Roll has the average Buffet fare with no Mongolian Grill or a Grill where you can choose your ingredients and then it is cooked for you. They did offer Blue Bell Ice Cream which was a plus, but it was mushy and not frozen. Many of the pans were empty or showing sings of being on the steam table for some time. Value: Everyone who knows me that I don't mind paying good $ for a Good Meal but $15.95 for the usual is bit of a stretch. The New China Buffet at Speedway and Wilmot is just as good at a fraction of the cost. If you've $$ to burn this is the place. Although the food is good, the other elements just don't cut it for me. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon - I can keep looking for a better fit when I'm in the mood for Chinese food. Thx :)

Awesome! Definitely will come back for the sea food night! But the be careful for the fried crab, it's not that fresh. I have a super sensitive stomach, and I can feel that there will be something bad going on tonight......

Extremely overpriced!!! I went on their "special" and it was still 35 dollars for the wife and I. While the restaurant is clean and looks nice, the food is nothing special. In fact I think the Chinese buffet on Valencia and Midvale is better and cheaper. The server did not even give me a refill on my drink. I know it's a buffet place, but the servers on Valencia are always quick to bring refills and check on you. Overall, I think this isn't the worse Chinese buffet I've tried, but there are way better places in Tucson that are cheaper and give better service.

The sushi bar is so delicious! They have about 3-4 different varieties of nigiri (on the weekends they include sashimi) and they have other rolls that are so delicious! The rolls are small so you don't get filled up with only rice like other places tend to do. The price is completely affordable and reasonable considering the seafood they offer. On the weekends they have fresh oyster and crab legs that are so yummy. I've turned it into a weekly thing to come here every saturday. It's very clean and the location is great! -Ps: I didn't give it 5 stars because one of the times I visited it took them awhile to refill the crab legs, which is not a big deal but in a buffet you shouldn't really have to wait around for food to be ready specially during busy hours when the restaurant should be prepared.

I have found my new favorite Chinese buffet! Walking in the lighting is slightly dim, buffet is very clean and seating is spacious. The food was very fresh and I did not feel like it was drowning in oil. I probably sampled a little of everything and enjoyed every single bite. I love the sushi bar, the rolls were not dry at all and they had options that other buffets do not have. The desserts are similar to other buffets except for a few minor items like scoop your own ice cream, with a wider flavor range than just chocolate and vanilla, and other little yummy desserts. The staff was very friendly and we were greeted right away. For 3 people at dinner it was around $40. Great place, will visit again!

This place is amazing. They are nothing short of genius. The buffet setup is away from the tables but still accessible, the music is really good; not too loud but you can still hear it. The customer service is great they are always friendly and ready to help. The food tastes amazing. The sushi bar is great all the food was labeled and stayed together when I picked it up with chopsticks. Bottom line is I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will be coming to this place from now on. :-)

Let me first state I love how any stupid idiot can write a review. First before you go to this place know that it is a asian restaurant. So guess what their will be asian dishes?!?! Omg so many people complaining how the lobster is prepared. Or how this restaurant is trying to make dumb white people happy and yet they complain. Let me start with saying I'm so glad someone finally brought a higher class buffet to Tucson. The sushi is good and their dishes are on the higher end scale of what other asian buffets offer. Their dinner menu is far better then their lunch but it comes at a price increase. Raw oysters and raw fish alone makes it worth it. They also add crab. Asian prepared lobster and asian ribs. Only thing I can think is people are under the impression that somehow for the price of 14.95 that they are getting Vegas Buffett quality. And no it is not on that level. But for 1/3 a 1/4 the cost it's at least half as good which is amazing for Tucson. One thing I will note is it seems to be quite a few struggling people in Tucson. But to give a review as though 14.95 is expensive a part of me feels sorry for you. 15 bucks would be $ dollar at the most $$ and their are some here making it seem like it broke the bank and then put unrealistic expectations for a cheap buffet.

  • Dalena T.

I definitely had high expectations because of all the reviews and gossip about this place, but this was absolutely not worth it for the weekend price of 16$ the only reason I could see why people would write good reviews about it would have to be for their crab legs or lobster. which normally would be a good price for only 16$. the only issue I had with the crab legs and were that they obviously ran out fast but it would take them quite some time to refill it. so it felt as if I had just paid 16$ for any average buffet with an unlikely chance of getting crab or lobster. they also had oysters which definitely looked like they were left out to long, you would have to dig around to find good ones. The sushi was mediocre it was definitely decent sized variety, but if you pay attention to the sushi which I tend to do, most of if not everything had imitation crab in it, so the rolls seemed very similar if not the same to me. the only thing I actually enjoyed for the sushi would have to be that they had Nigiri as well as sashmi (but only 2-3 types), the only issue I had with that was the tuna seemed to dry out a lot faster than salmon did. The Chinese food also wasn't the best either, I know I can't personally expect to much since its a buffet but I definitely wasn't feeling about 80% of the entrees and food they had. I did enjoy their miso soup though, it had big pieces of tofu which made me kind of happy. Our waiter was nice he came and checked up on us frequently clearing plates asking how we were doing if everything was ok, we did have issues first entering the restaurant though, the hostess wasn't around so we stood around confused for a couple minutes. she eventually came by but I was at least expecting a hello or a welcome but she simply just asked how many, and seated us, then when we left I was at least hoping for a good bye or thank you for coming I don't think that's too much to ask for... guess I was mistaken. I did find it interesting that they sold ramune (Japanese soda) Food variety overall was pretty small in my opinion, I wish they had a bigger selection, this place was just OK, I personally don't think its worth it simply because they advertise seafood but it's very limited. I probably won't end up coming here again. There are definitely better buffets in town for cheaper.

So...Arizona people..I'm here from NJ visiting my dad..love crab legs so we decided to try it.... NJ has thousands of buffets....this place is GOOD... atmosphere is pleasant and the staff cleans often. The staff is attentive and very nice. Bathrooms are clean and stocked..lol The food: sushi is good however I would have like "plainer" sushi..like cucumber or just crab. I could have asked but I did not. There are 4 tables of food...soups broths are good comparable to NJ...the wontons need alot of help but that's not a deal breaker for me. Crab legs on Friday and Saturday...food is hot and DOES have flavor. The last table has cold stuff like salads, shrimp, desserts..etc....price per person is about:$15.oo Food is constantly being filled. If it's empty they will fill it asap. We did come for dinner...5pm... We would come back

This is okay. There is a Chinese type buffet closer to me. They all seem to be about the same. There is a huge selection of food. The skewered chicken was nice and moist. I enjoyed the seasoning on the Thai chicken and a couple of the other dishes. Real ice cream for desert along with loads of other deserts.

I went there a few days ago on my 57th Birthday with a friend. It's a beautiful space with excellent food. If you like sushi, the quality is excellent and it's all you can eat. A great selection of soups, appetizers and entree's. Also fresh fruit and a great selection of desserts! I didn't notice until we were leaving but that have a huge selection of ice cream too! Being that it was also my Birthday, I got a % discount for my Birthday years. My friend was buying and so it was a very nice discount. He comes there every weekend. It's definitely worth the drive!!

I saw this place on Ina several months with a big "TOP SECRET" sign covering it. Turned out that the big secret was Wok & Roll, a Chinese buffet. My wife and I finally gave it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised! Tucson's Chinese food is of mixed quality but most of the food here was pretty solid. This is good ol' fashioned Americanized Chinese food, including all the staples like coconut shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, won ton soup, beef with broccoli, and those little Chinese dessert things. There's also some non-Chinese fare including sushi (only of decent quality), pizza (for kids with picky tastes), and ice cream (not frozen yogurt -- legit ice cream with flavors like mint chocolate chip and cookies 'n cream). Overall no one dish is amazing but the selection is good and everything is tasty enough. The price is reasonable, though it's a bit more expensive on weekends for their seafood buffet. I'm definitely excited to come back next time.

I came in here with some friends (02/15/15), as I was told that this place was fairly new and that the food was great. When we walk in we were moderately greeted but the hostess. We waited by the door until she was able to notice us, but before she could show us to our seats, she had some type of altercation or argument with one of the servers, and then she walked away without telling us to follow her to our booth. Which was a little rude, but I immediately forgot about it once I started to chow down on the food. I would have completely forgotten about the hostess, if it wasn't for the server, attending our table. She was nice in the beginning, and we were a bit confused on where to pay for our meal. Some buffet places have you pay at the table, and others have you pay near the entrance. Since no one had stated to us where to pay, we all assumed that we had to pay near the entrance, since the register was the first thing we noticed while walking in. As we were getting up from our table, the server was extremely rude to us, basically accusing us of a ~dine&dash~. I explained to her that we were going to pay at the register, and she had less of an attitude, changing what she had originally said. I don't think I'll be back here any time soon. $15.95 per person to begin with is incredibly steep for lunch on a Sunday, let me tell you. I still have my receipt. I wasn't expecting the food to taste so good, and it did! I had a couple of plates of the regular buffet food and some food from the sushi bar! The sushi was the best part honestly. Their Philadelphia rolls are amazing! Don't come here for the service, come here for the food. They certainly make up for it.

Gary and I (2/3 of the Dining Trio) made our first visit to this recently opened restaurant. It gets a hearty thumbs up! Wok & Roll features rows of serving tables featuring many Chinese dishes, PLUS an entire sushi bar. The sushi features both raw and cooked varieties (so everyone can eat it) and was excellent quality. My husband is Japanese, and was pleased with the sushi. The sushi chef is Japanese, and one of the owners, a gracious man. You get tons of variety (like other Chinese buffets) but this one has that sushi bar and a dessert/salad/fresh shrimp/mussels bar as well. Everything was clean and fresh, and plentiful. And although this restaurant just opened around 10 days or so ago, it had plenty of people! It's a big place, so plenty of seating abounds. I noticed they also will prep food for you off a menu if desired instead of buffet, and you can do take-out of the sushi or Chinese type. And yes, they do have a senior discount, so do ask for it, if you qualify. It's $12.95 dinner M-TH and $15.95 Fri./Sat. Lunch is $9.95. Kids have discounted pricing. It's a good value for the quality and quantity of food that you get. The place has a good, friendly vibe, the servers were friendly and professional -- all positives. We will definitely return! Good luck to the new owners -- we wish you great success!

This has been may different things, but Chinese buffets have seemed to rule. The last one was good and after it closed I was sad, but... Loving this place!! They have remodeled the inside of it and it is now very open and well set up. The price seems a little much for dinner but if you see their offerings it is worth it! They have oysters, clams, sushi, and many buffet classics like beef and broccoli and chow mien. On Fridays and Saturday nights they also serve crab legs and lobster. Everything I have tried I have loved. This is a pretty amazing little buffet.

Dear Wok-N-Roll, I love you. I love that your sushi is freshly made throughout the day and is always well stocked (unlike the Sushi Garden and Takamatsu buffets). I love that your hot entrees aren't simply fried meat covered in nondescript orange sauce. I love your Thai chicken. I love the pepper chicken and mixed vegetables and lo mein and not greasy egg foo yong.... You get the idea. The service here is helpful and friendly without being overbearing. The cooks regularly change out old product and refill things that run out. The food is good quality, if a little salty at times. But it's a Chinese buffet. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn good. I only have two recommendations. First, consider adding some Korean BBQ lettuce wrap fixings. Some Bool Kogi and Pa Muchim and fermented soybean paste would be amazing. Second, add a couple of vegetarian entrees. I realize you often have tofu and mixed vegetables, green beans, and mushrooms. But the tofu is the only real "main dish" many times. Overall, though - great job!

So. much. sushi. For a buffet anyway. The sushi wasn't the best sushi I have ever had but for a buffet it was good. The sushi was very cold which made me think that maybe it has been sitting in the fridge for a while so it wasn't freshly made. Also, the selection was bigger than any other buffet that I had been to: oysters, shrimp, mussels. The service was good. Drinks were brought out quickly. The rest of the food was okay. Personally it was a little bland for me, which Chinese food should never be. So we will probably return again to give it another shot.

Our first visit to Wok & Roll on April 14th of this year was awesome. The staff was very attentive, without being pushy or 'hovering.' All the dishes we tried were very good. We each took a very small amount of most of the offerings. Even going back a second time didn't allow us to try it all as there's a LOT of choices. There's an item on their drink menu that neither of us had seen before: strawberry sake! It came to our table in a small frosted bottle, lightly chilled, slightly sweet, was delightful, and it complemented our meal nicely. The cooked sushi items were interesting, and perfectly done. The regular sushi was very fresh. I noted and applaud the fact that the chef regularly kept an eye on items that were running low, or in danger of running out, or anything on the sushi table that needed his attention, and he kept the area spotless. Other workers circulated regularly and cleaned up spills or refilled items efficiently and in a timely manner. The floor plan of the restaurant is open, and comfortable with lots of space to roam between the food islands. They even have self-serve ice cream, a nice touch to round out one's meal. The presentation of the food was beautiful, from the 'cold foods' section to the meats, vegetables, noodles and seafood, all looked, and tasted great. Even the ladies' room is beautiful and nicely appointed. On our second visit on May 23rd, the food and atmosphere were still just fine with one exception. Once again, we ordered the tasty strawberry sake, and we waited, and waited and waited. There were only 3 or 4 other tables in our section with just two couples at each table; that is to say they were NOT busy, and there were very few patrons in the place. It was the Sunday after most of the students had cleared out of town; around 4:15 p.m. Our waiter passed by our table several times to go elsewhere WITHOUT bringing our sake. He was always looking somewhere else. He looked bored. Not nonchalant....BORED, with an expression on his face like he couldn't care less. My husband finally caught his attention after more than 15 minutes had passed of him walking by our table. He said, "Oh, yeah!" and knew that WE knew he'd forgotten. When he finally brought the sake, he set it on our table without even an "I'm sorry about the wait," or even looking at either one of us. I'll remember this guy's name. It's on the receipt that I kept; because next time we go, I'll make certain to ask NOT to be seated in his section. Other than that, we like this place. They'd only been open about three months prior to our first visit. It's new. We understand that ALL restaurants have their "off days" and that waiters have their "off days" too. It's a beautiful building; open floor plan, soaring ceiling, the food's good, and the rest of the staff we've had interaction with, including the chef, are eager to please and want to do their best to take care of their guests. I wish them luck as we head into that trying time: SUMMER in Tucson. It's the 'acid test' for restaurants because if they can survive the summer when a LOT of the townspeople clear out, and get the 'bugs out' of being a new establishment, then they've got a good chance of making it here. We wish them good luck, success, and we keep our fingers crossed that they stick around.

I've been to Wok & Roll twice now, and after two visits, decided this was the right time to put up my review. I purposely visited at "off times" (between 2 and 4pm) when buffets usually struggle with fresh food. This is not a problem at Wok & Roll. Each time I visited, the sushi was fresh, and in good supply (not so many pieces that they'll be sitting all day). Both times, there was a sushi chef hand rolling more. The rice on the sushi had the right sticky consistency and good flavor. The fish was fresh, clean, tasty. I wish the spicy rolls had more bite to them, but that's my personal taste and easily remedied by adding some wasabi. If there was one change I would make, I would ask for something other than little plastic tubs for wasabi, soy and ginger. It would be nice to have the proper plate for those items. I didn't try the cooked side of the buffet because when sushi calls to me, I run to it like a Kardashian to the paparazzi. But I did notice chefs routinely checking and replacing dishes, even during the off time. The servers were friendly, non intrusive. They kept beverages filled and did bring you any other items you need. Overall, I'm really thrilled this restaurant is open. I can't wait to visit on a weekend and try the lobster and the crab. I will definitely be back! Great job Wok & Roll!

I love this place! Everyone I have taken has not been disappointed. I love their sushi bar and all you can eat crab legs on Saturdays.

I was at first nervous about what to expect since some of the reviews were mixed, and all I can say is that I'm genuinely confused. I'm a picky enough person that I don't usually dine at buffets, and I was blown away by the quality here. Yes, the price is higher on the weekend when they have lobster and crab legs-- but I think the reviewers who complained about that should think about it reasonably. There is a full, all-you-can-eat sushi bar on top of crab legs and lobster. All you can eat sushi anywhere is at least $20. And that doesn't come with the option to enjoy a full buffet with crab, oysters, and lobster, desert, etc. I watched the sushi chef at the bar to figure out if the sushi was old, and what I observed is that he was constantly making new rolls and putting out about 8 pieces at a time which were pretty much immediately taken by people. Very fresh. As far as the buffet, they seem to put out small portions of each dish to make sure it's not a huge pile of aging food. There was a lady replacing dishes nonstop, so they clearly have standards on how long food can be out. Lunch during the week is $9.95, so even without the crab and lobster, having access to the buffet plus all you can eat sushi is an incredible value. My server was super kind and he was clearly working hard. He kept our table cleared and drinks full as we gorged. I will be back for sure. *I've been Yelping for a while and know we shouldn't discredit other Yelpers reviews, but I would just add that I think some people have low scores despite the excellent food because they went on a day when they had the lobster and were expecting to pay less. I would recommend checking this place out and knowing the price range options for the week.

We arrived at Wok & Roll on Saturday with high hopes for a delicious and filling Chinese buffet. Filling? Yes. Delicious? No. I'm very disappointed in my experience and really hate to give such a low rating to a fairly new establishment but I wouldn't be a responsible Yelper if I let you walk in to Wok & Roll without giving you a little taste of my own experience. Rather than get all wordy and clever let me just give you this little rundown: Pros: * Crab puffs/rangoons: Fat suckers filled with a delicious cream cheese/crab mixture and fried to golden perfection. * Pork dumplings: Tasty and plump * Chinese donuts: Soft, sugary, pillowy and delicious Cons: * I'll start with the most egregious - the seafood. We paid extra to take advantage of the seafood buffet. Honestly, it was not good. o Lobster: Claw pieces nestled in what I can only describe as some kind of old, congealed gravy - lumps and all. L had to spit his in to his napkin o Salt & Pepper Crab: cooked to nothingness where once you got anything out of the shell, it had no texture whatsoever o Crab Legs: Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure my hands aren't supposed to smell like that after cracking crab legs. We had to wash up in the restroom before continuing with our meal. o Salt & Pepper Squid: Completely flavorless and boring; at least it wasn't rubbery o Sushi: I'd compare the sushi with grocery store sushi. Very average. And what's with the non-spicy wasabi??? o Cheese Stuffed Mussels: Chewy and extremely "fishy" tasting. Ick. * Fried Rice: More like steamed rice that was fried perhaps for a very brief moment. Gummy and blah. * Low Mein: Greasy, pretty non-existent in the vegetable department * Honey Chicken: Extremely sweet and swimming in sauce. Any chicken "flavor" is completely lost Other standard Chinese menu items were just okay, not one single item stood out above the others. Wok & Roll is clean, has a nice set up and is somewhat visually appealing. But there are so many more minuses than pluses overall. I can't imagine wasting my money by coming to Wok & Roll again.

New place in the neighborhood and we had a coupon. Started with sushi and was generally impressed with quality and variety. My husband was surprised and happy to find eel. He also had hot and sour soup which was good. The hot entrees looked really good but overall everything was just bland. Definitely lacking in flavor. I thought the black pepper chicken was the exception and I was also glad the veggies were well cooked and still a little crisp not totally obliterated. Lots of options, including several seafood dishes (squid!) and nothing bad per se but we were a little disappointed. Service was decent, polite and efficient. We might give it another shot especially since the sushi ends up being a pretty good deal.

I came back to this dumpster for one last hoorah. Let me tell you. I had the worst case of runs, literally dying and coming back to life in the bathroom I had to go to the ER they basically resurected me & gave me painkillers. what kinda people are you. While I was pronounced dead I think jesus came to me...told me I had to come back one more time. Damn why would I this place killed me? But Jesus was right. I came back and you guys saved my life. Best ice cream ever. Thank you so much WOK & ROLL!

This place just opened up by my house, so I thought I would give it a try as some buffets can be pretty good. This place did not have as much variety as some others I have been to, so I was a bit let down by the selection. Their food was ok, not amazing, but not the worst just average. My main complaint is just the lack of options for a buffet. The building itself is really nice and seems very clean, which is a bonus, but I probably wont go back just because the food wasn't that great.

$15.95 a head is a bit steep for a buffet in Tucson. The sushi bar was surprising good compared to gas station and mid-tier grocery store sushi. The hand-scooped ice cream station is a major redeeming factor. But the fact that this is an Asian buffet with a little more than half of the buffet lines having Asian themed or inspired dishes. Panda Express makes better entrees, sides, and veg dishes, so if you don't like Panda, you certainly won't like this. Nearby recommendations would be the restaraunt at Lee Lee's Asian market, Pei Wei, or Lihn Nahm, in place of this buffet. Ambience and Decor: 5/10 Not much here, but the stone facades and vinyl wall coverings are interesting. Service: 2/10 Refills and plate clearing left much to be desired. Food: 2.5/10 Looking for decent Asian food? Go elsewhere. If you're stuck here, stick to the sushi and less saucy dishes. Avoid the soups and heavily sauced entrees.

As a frequent sushi buffet goer, this place has my doubts. I was totally wrong. Being from California, I tend to pay $24-$26 on good sushi buffets. $15.99 is a steal. Granted, this is Tucson. You have to take into account minimum wages and other costs that the customer pays for. Still. It's a steal. So, for those complaining about the price; stick to Costco California rolls. Sushi rolls are good. Sashimi is excellent. Melts in your mouth. Only knock is the spicy mayo. The sushi chef created this sherbet/sweet and spicy sauce that I'm no fan of. I may bring my own. That's really all I ask for and expect. The rest of the food is your typical Asian-style buffet selections. Crawfish are good and crab is ok. Fried crab was a tad moist, perhaps oil wasn't hot enough. Was hoping for lobster tails, didn't see it. Oysters are always questionable. Service was excellent. You get an odd sense the Help hovers but they are just making sure your needs are met. Love it. Will definitely be going again.

So glad Tucson now has this place to enjoy! They offer all the typical Asian buffet options (highly recommend the coconut shrimp especially), a salad bar plus a GREAT sushi station that was continually being restocked! They even had unagi / eel roll and nigiri which is very rare for a buffet I think. So just for the sushi alone it is worth the visit. For dessert they have also have a lot of options, including puddings, assorted cakes, fruits, cookies and REAL ICE CREAM by the scoop (we got the cookie dough, cookies n cream and cake batter). We came around 2pm on a weekday and thought the $10 price for lunch was well worth the food. Everything was warm and tasted great. Wait staff was very attentive and polite and prompt in removing plates and refilling drinks. The whole place (including bathrooms) appeared to be very clean and well kept. Atmosphere is very casual and there were lot's of families with kids eating. Will be returning customers for sure!

My wife and I have visited many Chinese buffets, but this one is absolutely the best. Don't let the rather higher than normal prices fool you. $12.95 early in the week and $15.95 on weekends. Well, in this instance you really do get what you pay for. Lots of fresh hot items on the buffet, very well seasoned and definitely better than the average Chinese buffet. But the biggest draw for me was a very well stocked sushi bar. Not just a few rolls like you find as some Chinese buffets, but a lot of very good rolls that are special order even at sushi bars. And, very fresh Maguro (tuna), Sake (salmon), Ebi (shrimp) and even Unagi (eel). This is definetely the best Chinese buffet in Tucson. For the price, even better than Sushi Garden.

Over the years, I have visited many Chinese buffets. Wok and Roll is definitely the best that I have visited in many years. First, let me say, the sushi is of excellent quality. The chef was even willing to prepare special rolls upon request. I was also amazed by the quality of the hot food. The Pepper Steak and Coconut Shrimp were both superb. Overall, I could not be happier. Thank God that there is finally a good Asian buffet in Tucson. I will definitely return.

I'm glad I finally got to try this place! My last experience with U-like killed buffets for a long time. I gave this a shot in a friends recommendation and theu wede right. Everything tasted great. Not too salty and not too sweet. I loved the crab rangoons and the dumplings! They were the right consistency and very flavorful. The sushi was surprisingly good for buffet style sushi, the eel/avocado roll was the best of th bunch. And to top it off.....Bluebell ice cream. Yummmmmmmmmy. The place it was also very clean. Before it was a dump with no zazz...the make ove here is incredibly stylish and pleasant. Speaking of pleasant, the service was quite nice as well! The only thing that detracts from their score is the place is a bit pricey. It's well worth the money though and I WILL be back :)

Last minute decision to check this out. We were surprised by the $12.95 on a Monday night, but it looked clean so decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the hot and sour soup and the sushi. My husband really liked the crab casserole. No need to hurry back, but we left satisfied.

I will not be back. The wait staff was very pushy to take my plate when I wasn't even done with my food. The sushi taste pre-made and frozen, Frys grocery store has better sushi! The buffet nearly made me sick! For $65 for 2 adults and 2 kids under 10yrs, I would of expected a lot better service and food! I will not be back!

Most people don't understand buffets. It bothers me that people expect a 5 star quality restaurant at a buffet, which you will never get. But for what this place is, it's pretty good. The sushi bar isn't bad, you just gotta make sure you get it fresh from the chef and the rest is about what you expect from your average buffet. What really shines is the all you can eat oysters and crab.

This place is fair. Staff are not very friendly or helpful, but the food is alright. Nothing great - just ok. Most of it is hot. Haven't tried the sushi, because I refuse to try it at a buffet. Egg rolls were hot, Coconut Shrimp was actually hot and fresh, and the sweet / sour chicken was good. Fried rice was not good. Too much onions and it really tastes like Uncle Ben's rice. There are so many bad Chinese restaurants in Tucson. This place is mediocre. A little on pricey side for buffet, but It wont make you sick like others around town.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
