I really don't know why we went here in the 1st place but it just was the only thing in the complex that was not fast food, it looked fine, until we walked in pretty drab which is most Asian food places. The waiter was more concerned about sitting and reading the paper than he was about serving food. I can kind of understand his concern or lack there of. The food while edible was about as good as a can of Chung King that has been on my parents pantry shelf since the age of Disco (the early 80's for those of you too young to know). I would try to avoid this place unless you like marginal food.

You have to rate a place based on what it is, and this is a hole-in-the-wall pan-Asian east-side dive -- and for what it is, it's pretty good. Not quite 4 stars, but not 3. Three and a half would've been a better fit. The bump up to 4 stars was based on our love of their Hot Jalapeño Chicken Wings. Now don't go there expecting bright orange wings glistening in sauce, accompanied by carrot and celery sticks, with ranch dressing on the side. These are different and employ a Tucson favorite, the jalapeño. The dish is basically little hunks of fried chicken topped with minced jalapeños and some other tiny pepper that looks like a chile pequin---awesome. My husband usually gets the twiced cooked BBQ pork (not the regular pork, the BBQ one -- we got the wrong one once and it wasn't as good) and I look for something with broccoli in it. I haven't found anything I like enough to order it twice. But I like the appetizer enough to keep coming back to try again. Other Notes of Interest: "Asian" in the title because they serve Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Chinese food. We've only had the Thai and Chinese. The iced tea tastes funky--so if you're an iced tea freak, this may ruin the whole thing for you. "Chips & Salsa"--when you first arrive you get a bowl of fried wonton strips with plum sauce. Avoid this. They serve brown rice (in addition to white) to bring down the glycemic index of your meal. Lots of regulars stop by for take out. They deliver.

The food is always on point, very tasty, great portions, friendly staff. It's location seems sketchy at first but the food exceeds your expectations. We have never been disappointed, I hope neither will you!

Absolutely LOVE them! Their delivery is super fast! The food always comes well prepared and tastes delicious! We often order at least once a month. Best asian cuisine on the east side!

I've had two meals at this place and they won't be my last. My first was (I believe) General Tso's Chicken. Very good! Spicy- which is what I was looking for- and big servings. The 2nd was plain old beef and broccoli. WOW! For such a simple plate, it had so much flavor. I had it delivered, with an order of egg rolls (!!) and it came to 14 dollars. BUT, it provided me with two dinners! :) Highly recommended! Will definitely return!

this place is a little expensive but their food is always spot on. I usually have delivery and they are quick, the order is always right, and the delivery guys are really nice. the fried rice is amazing and so are their soups. I get the egg drop when I'm feeling like a little pick me up and the war wonton is amazing when you're feeling sick. portion sizes are large for all their dishes. The pad thai isn't a typical pad thai but it's tasty none-the less. not sure what the sauce is (it's not the typical peanut sauce), but it's good. love the crab rangoons and the sweet/sour red sauce as an appetizer.

So we just moved into the area and were hungry for some food. We found them online and saw that they delivered. The guy that answered was so sweet I didn't realize it was 15 minutes till closing but they still took my order and the young man delivered it on his way home. I thought that was AWESOME customer service which is very hard to find lately. We ordered the Mongolian beef and shrimp chop suey VERY GOOD. We will be going back again.

We had 10 in our group for dinner on 7/14. Everyone ordered different items from a huge selection from a large 6 page menu!!! Unless you are a real oriental connoisseur and know you Asian foods, it is pretty hard to make a decision - thank God for "Combination Plates" - makes the guess work a lot easier!!! I chose A-4, I can't recall exactly what was included but I can say it was delish! I ordered a side Won Ton Soup for the extra 50 cents, it was very full of vegies, etc. but was a bit too salty. I did have others mention that their food was saltier than they like. They say they are MSG free in their foods? The serve staff and chefs are very accommodating and helpful. The facility is very clean and neat. It is located right next to the Safeway in the shopping complex on Golf Links and south west corner of Harrison. We will be including it on our return visit list and recommend it to others!!

We had two items on the menu. Lettuce wraps and Almond Chicken. We came with a coupon and found it could only be used on some items. The Almond Chicken was eh ok but the rice served with it was cold. The lettuce wraps filling was also cold. The lettuce were pieces torn and thrown on a plate resembling no shells served with care. The filling was bland even with salt and pepper and soy sauce. In short they were awful. For 9 dollars I was expecting more. The food, service and price were not worth the one star given, I would not bother, its not worth it!

Excellent food. I've encountered a couple of dishes that were not to my taste, but generally I stick to the same 4 dishes every time: Hong Kong Ho Fun, General Tso's Beef, Salted Shrimp with Hot Jalapeño Peppers, and the Bun Bo Hue. None of these dishes have ever disappointed, so I pretty much order the same dishes every time.

This is has been my go-to spot for take out since moving here a year ago. My cousin recommended it to me within the first few days I was in town and thank god for that. We've eaten in a lot (try the lunch special...it's cheap & plentiful!) but lately we've been ordering & having it delivered. They should change the name to the Speedy Diner...we usually get our order in 30 minutes or less. (Except for once when the driver's car broke down and we waited an hour and half - but our food somehow still arrived hot. How DO they do that?) Just writing this review is making me hungry. I think I know what I'm ordering for dinner tonight...

  • Michelle D.

I really like their food, but their prices have gone up and they charge you for a little thing of hot sauce if you are getting your order to go. I think I'll start driving a little further from home to get my Asian food fix.

Stopped by tonight about 8pm for some takeout. I ordered Chicken fried rice, beef with snow peas, and potstickers. The price was steep at $27+ but I really wanted to try the place out since I moved to the neighborhood a few months ago. I will not be going back. The rice had no flavor and was full of frozen vegetables including green beans and lima beans as well as corn and the usual carrots and peas. The beef dish I had was not what I ordered. Instead of beef with snow peas I had beef with mushrooms, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, carrots and snow peas. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't drool-worthy. The potstickers were dripping with oil and the dipping sauce was basically chili oil with scallions floating on top. The restaurant was not busy and yes, it was later in the evening, but really there's no excuse for oily nasty food.

An Asian restaurant on the east side of town that I'm willing to go back to a second time. Only other place from Kolb rd east that has earned my repeat business (Ba-dar). Too many nearby places are so generic or just plain poor tasting. Place was quiet, orderly and the service was fast. Staff was very attentive and polite. I ordered the sesame chicken. Had great flavor and wasn't 90% breading like others. So far they get 4 stars to start and I'll go from there.

    (4)
  • Chris R.

i still think it is one of the better places on the eastside. but it loses a star because i just realized how expensive the prices are... $10+ for pad thai? no way man! food is still good though, especially the pad thai and the thai red curry.

They have good food but 1. The portions are average running to small depending when you order. 2. If you order they give you barley any white rice at all and there is no option to upgrade to fried rice which is unheard of. They also have no basic dinner specials at all. 3. Need soy sauce or cookies with your order forget it they almost never include them when you order even if you ask. 4. The service sucks, they made me meet them down the block because they guy was driving a sports car dropped so low he can't get up a hill and then they changed my drinks and when I complained because I needed a clear soda they actually called me BACK to tell me how lucky I was to get a soda I never ordered. (So I paid for a soda I couldn't drink wow thank you...NOT) I order from them as a last resort now

I come here for family dinners maybe once or twice a month, and the server I had is so friendly and the food is always amazing. The Peking duck is my favorite dish, and recently they started serving boba! My favorite(:

Sept 30, 2012 My cousin and extended family in Tucson are regulars here, their favorite go-to place for great Chinese food. We just had to try it! A group of about 15 of us went and they connected about 4 tables to fit us all. At one point we pretty much had the entire restaurant to ourselves, it seems they do a lot of take-outs. Food was very good, however I do believe we have just as good (if not better) Chinese restaurants in the LA area. Staff were friendly and attentive to all our requests. Definitely the best meal I had during my 3-day trip of Tucson.

Great deliver service! Heard from my fellow yelpers that there is thai food on the menu to. Ordered pad thai, red curry mussles and summer rolls. Pad thai was yummy and had lots of meat to it. The red curry wasn't so much red as orange/yellow, but still tasted good. The mussles were plentiful and to my delight they were the better quality green muscles too! Spring rolls were also good. We'll be back.

I love their vietnamese food. The noodle bowls are great, tasty and authentic. I like the pork noodle bowl, officially the Bun Thit Nuong. So, if you're in the mood for something fresh, give this one a try! They also have the Boba teas.

When is a Chinese restaurant not a Chinese restaurant? When the cook is South East Asian and his style is influenced by Vietnamese, Thai and Korean cuisines. Selections from all those cuisines are listed on the menu. My wife and I have eaten at Wei Asian Cafe many times over the last three years - frequently enough that the owner teases me about my doctor being on vacation whenever I order Tshingtao beer to go with our meal. We've found items on the menu that we really like and a few (very, very few) that we're not quite so fond of. The won-ton soup is great and there have been occasions that I've stopped by just to bring home a quart. Unlike many won-ton soups we've experienced over the years that are devoid of much other than a won-ton, a small piece of pork and a cut up scallion, the soup at Wei is loaded with goodies - pea pods, Chinese cabbage, carrot slices, sliced bamboo shoots and broccoli along with a couple won-tons in a flavorful broth. We also recommend the fried dumplings. On the down side, their egg rolls haven't met our expectations. If you're looking for an unpretentious place to have a reasonably priced meal with fresh ingredients and friendly service, Give Wei Asian Cafe a try. Portions are generous and we've always left feeling we got a great value for the money. A selection of beer and wine is available. As a foot note, the cafe was recently renovated - new paint job, table cloths and upholstery for the booths. They did a great job.

Wei Asian cafe is Wei good! Teriyaki chicken did NOT look like cat meat and tasted Wei better than any other I've had in Tucson. Even my wife liked it! I'll be bok.

Walking into an empty dinning room I wondered if I had just made a mistake, but I sat down anyway and placed an order for Red Curry. WOW! I don't know how the rest of the food is but this dish was outstanding. Just the right amount of hot and sweet, loaded with veggies, meat and shrimp. The rice that came with the dish was perfect. I'm looking forward to going back and trying out other items. If they are as good as the Red Curry then I just found my new favorite Asian place. Try it.

I'm stunned at the good reviews for this place. The General Tso Chicken was horrible. It was dry and almost inedibly chewy. It was $8.95 and only came with rice. We also got the sweet and sour pork, so we spent $20 for subpar food. It almost makes me suspect of Yelp because I cannot see how anyone gave this place more than 3 stars!

My go to Chinese restaurant for family dinners on the east side. They do take out and the lunch specials are a great deal. There have been a few things I didn't care for, the Lemon Chicken was a super sweet bright yellow equivalent of General Tso's or Orange Chicken and not to my liking. The thing that sets this little hole in the wall appart however is that they serve not only typical Chinese take out dishes they also have Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Japanese and Chinese food. The waiters are also always super patient with my grandfather whom I love dearly but it getting to be the snap his fingers when he needs a fork age. He wants to go here at least once every other week and I love it because I can get Korean Beef with Kim Chee one time and Pho the next. The best part, I can get Boba with every meal, which always gets at least one star on its own in my opinion. Over all a good place to head on the east side of Tucson where the kids will be happy as well as the people with a slightly more varied or traveled pallette.

After all the great reviews, I was excited to try this place. Unfortunately, our experience was not great. My soup was bland and the noodles were very firm. My husbands dish was incredibly greasy and bland as well. My green tea was watered down and they claimed to not have tapioca yet about 5 minutes later I saw them serving it.

Lacking in stylish decor, the food and the service here more than make up for the restaurant's faded, '80s look. The menu is enormous with Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese options. We got 3 different things and they were all delicious. The chefs were even willing to create an off-menu dish for us. Delicious, accommodating and not very expensive. If I were local, I would definitely be coming back.

Coming from the bay area, where Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen, its refreshing to see one of these establishments in the desert! Its your basic, better than panda, Combo #___, comes with steamed or white rice, hot n sour or egg drop soup, and an eggroll type of place for lunch. That's a +1, because I'm tired of place who have all their food pre-cooked under heat lamps... They also have a good dinner menu, which tastes great. All those chef specials, and even your basic, as I like to call it, "American-Chinese" food too. (Ie: your sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, etc.) What makes them stand out too, is that they have Vietnamese dishes. The Bun Thit Nuong was on point, but something leaves to be desired for their Bun Bo Hue. Their pho is also decent, broth is flavorful. All in all, its a great average place. Can't go wrong. I really don't know where the other reviewers get "on the expensive side." ...... Come to Orange County... I'll show you that same dish marked up 50%. And the only way you're getting a Combo for under $8 is if its from Panda Express or some other fast-food rip off.

The food here all tastes so good. We have been ordering from here for a couple of years. Sometimes we eat in for lunch, sometimes we have it delivered and sometimes we pick up. There are all kinds of different things on the menu, and everything is so good. They are also really nice, and if you tell them what you want, they will help you figure out what to order.

I tried Wei Asian again after not eating there for over a year. I stopped going in because of the strong, unpleasant smell of the deep fryer. Well, as soon as I walked in the door, that same smell hit me. Anyone who has worked in food probably knows the odor of a deep fryer that needs fresh oil. And nobody wants to smell that while they're eating.

We've eaten carryout now 4 times and every time has been great. The service is fast! Meal usually ready for pick up in 15 minutes. I can't even get there that fast. The cashew chicken isn't skimpy on the chicken and the pad Thai is actually spicy (and not sweet like a lot of Americanized versions). I will definitely keep coming back.

Seriously disappointed in the experience I just had. Had pick up order, paid half cash, half card. They had problems with card machine. They swiped and manually entered. Young guy in front apologized, for the delay. Thinking nothing of it I leave with food. I get alert on my phone, transaction went through twice. I call to let them know, young guy answers, he checks and they say, only shows once on they're end. Bring in bank statement showing double draft, they'll refund. I'm annoyed, due to inconvenience. The so called manager/small asian guy gets on phone, won't let me talk. Talks over me, TELLS ME I'M WASTING THEIR TIME AND HANGS UP ON ME. Without giving me any chance to talk. I've never had anyone treat me like this before. So disappointed, I did like them and enjoyed the food. But, due to this experience, I will never go there again. That's a lie. I will go back to get my money!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
