The experience I had when ordering my food to go was a 1 star. However, I've had some pleasant experiences in the past with The Good Egg so I will average it out. J and I have eaten at The Good Egg many times. We've gotten food to go and picked it up as well. The dining experience (service and food) is usually a 4-5. Really the only thing I can complain about is it's a bit pricey but you get enough food to leave full and relatively happy so we keep coming back. The takeout orders have probably been a 3.5-4 (Food sometimes doesn't come the way we order, but overall it's usually still tasty and it's convenient so whatever!) but usually J and I pick it up on lazy days when the fridge is a little too bare for a full breakfast, we want to spend our day off relaxing and we both want some traditional breakfast food. This last visit however, made me really reconsider eating there for awhile and exploring other options for breakfast. I mean for crying out loud, it's standard breakfast fare as well, there's plenty of places for that kind of thing. There were so many things wrong with the breakfast we ordered to go. J ordered the Grains, Nuts, & Fruits Oatmeal. It's topped with an assortment of fruits, caramelized pecans, nutmeg, milk, brown sugar. When J opened the container, he mentioned the oatmeal had the consistency of playdoh. The container itself wasn't large enough with all of the toppings so he opted to move it into a larger bowl to enjoy. There was no enjoyment, the oatmeal came out in chunks. You know how you make sand castles with those little buckets at the beach, where you pat all the sand in and then dump it upside down and hope for the best? That's kind of what happened here. It also kind of tasted like it too. There was little to no sweetness, The only saving grace? Caramelized Pecans. Those were delicious! Now I tried to make excuses for The Good Egg...TOGO oatmeal might have just been a really poor decision on our part. Maybe it was pre-made, maybe it sat there for just a bit too long. Maybe we took too long to pick it up. But we live 5 minutes away. Orders take 15-20 minutes. Even if we were 5 or maybe even 10 minutes later... oatmeal should not turn into kid's craft projects within the time frame we had. Also, the strawberries that topped the oatmeal were not properly cleaned and prepped. J attempted to doctor up his oatmeal. He had the entire pantry of seasoning's at his disposal. Half way through eating, he gave up and had a can of soup. I ordered the Traditional Breakfast. My eggs were overcooked but something I could have forgiven. BUT, what I couldn't forgive? I normally get the potatoes that come with it. They usually come with enough potatoes for me that I give half to J. He absolutely LOVES breakfast potatoes. The portion size was so much smaller than usual. I finished my potatoes thinking, "I used to get so much more than this.." Maybe they're cutting back on things at The Good Egg. But potatoes are cheap, and filling, and when you charge the prices you do and then decide to cut back, it makes me decide against paying for overpriced slightlybetterthanDenny's/Ihop breakfast food. I also ordered an iced tea on the side. Honestly, it was my favorite thing about The Good Egg. I loved that I could order in, and at the end of my meal get a TOGO cup and it was a HUGE cup of Iced Tea with a fresh lemon. I loved that it was the same size when I ordered TOGO orders because the size justified to me paying $2.50 for a plain, iced black tea. I have all of those ingredients at home and they cost pennies to make. Pennies. When I picked up the tea this time, it was half the size. About the size of a Starbucks' Grande cup. I even said, "Oh No, The cups are different!" The person at the desk said, "Oh , yea. Sorry!" The problem is when you go from having "Venti" sized cups and then start offering half the size for the same price, you go back to value. The Good Egg, you just aren't worth it. P.S. Who puts six blackberry jellies in a TOGO bag? Blackberry has to be the worst fruit turned jelly ever. Ugh. It may have just been a bad day in the kitchen. And a lot of times I chalk it up to a bad day, move on and try the food again another day. This just feels like bad decision making for a business. You can't have inconsistent, crappy portioned and overpriced food. Well, you can. But you won't have my business.

This place is always very busy.. Well worth the wait. Kelly was our server and she was excellent. The food is awesome. My new favorite place.

Note: I teetered between 2-3 stars and chose to go with two. My husband got off work early so we decided to eat a quick meal here, we saw that reviews were either hit or miss and wanted to see where on that scale we landed. Service - It's not bad, but it's also not good. We asked to sit on the patio since it was such a nice day but it felt like since we were the only people on the patio they may have forgotten us. We did get our orders in quick but didn't see our waiter again until he came with our food and again with our check. Food - my husband said his omelet was "fine but had nothing noteworthy" about it. I ordered eggs Benedict and the ham tasted like overly salty packaged sandwich meat. Ick! Potatoes on both our meals were a little underdone. Everything appears super tasty...it just isn't... The only really GREAT thing about this place is the spectacular view of Pusch mountain from the patio. If only you could enjoy the view and your meal I'd bump the rating up.

Very healthy lunch options! I always get their seven-veggie egg white omelette, power house, or spicy crepe eggs. Customer service is a hit or miss depending on how busy they are, but I never had an unpleasant experience here.

5 stars for dealing with the Mother's Day rush extremely well. Of course, we didn't make reservations anywhere and decided last second to go out for breakfast. There were tons of people waiting outside and we geared up for an hour wait or so, but were surprised to find that we got seated in about 10 minutes. The staff prepared a complementary drink stand outdoors for those waiting to use, which was a nice touch. The place was rammed but our server (I wish I could remember his name) was not flustered, didn't make is feel rushed, and dealt with our table in a really nice funny way. We had annoying orders like 4 different flavors of coffees, each with a different flavor or creamers and so on...he managed to get everything correct and had a smile and a joke every time he came to the table. I haven't eaten here since I was very young- but the food was better than I remembered. The eggs Benedict were super nice. They even have options of how you want your poached eggs cooked...wow...and here I was thinking a poached egg was a poached egg. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was pretty casual and non-hurried, even though there was a massive line outside. I think that's hard to do on a day like Mother's Day, so props to them.

Great breakfast spot. Good range of choices, the food is fresh and flavorful and the staff friendly and attentive. Patio dining available.

Very few places that I dine at get 5 stars. Food is excellent and service is efficient and little wait time. Just visiting for the month of Jan. And I've been there twice!

This new location is quite good. This was my first visit to any Good Egg. The staff was friendly and attentive, the menu had a lot of choices.

Excellent food! Expertly prepared, prompt and friendly service.. good value. . Average $7.00-9.00. Add another $2.50 for coffee. The restaurant is cheery, and clean. We will visit again!

The place was super packed, a good sign of a great place to eat. The entire breakfast was great and the staff were friendly and fast.

The river road location is our usual spot but we decided to try the oro valley location this morning. Decor is much more contemporary and the whole restaurant feels very airy and bright. I appreciated the mighty leaf hot tea, much more flavorful than the usual Lipton bag you get. I chose the egg white and veggie omelette, which sounds healthy except then they add melted brie, no complaints though as I love cheese. Biscuit was lightly toasted and delicious with butter and honey. Husband ordered the macho nacho, which had no pretensions to being healthy but he can't resist their Vera Cruz sauce (like a supercharged and very tasty taco sauce). Both portions were huge and we each took home half. Service was average, had to ask twice for extra napkins, but we weren't in a rush and all other requests were handled with acceptable efficiency. A very nice late breakfast, we may make this our go to location.

I went here when a couple of friends on a Saturday morning before my friend's wedding. It was about 9:30am but not overly busy - we waited about 4 minutes for a table. Our server was friendly, but I ordered Eggs Benedict (my new favorite breakfast entrée) and one of the two eggs was as hard as a hard boiled egg on the inside! I was contemplating telling the server and just asking for a different egg, but she did not come back to our table until after everyone was pretty much done eating - so that answered my question of whether or not I should send the food back (I HATE sending food back).

Not going back here. I ordered the Tucson Tacos whose description states: "Tucson Taco Fresh romaine hearts, cabbage, carrot, pico de gallo, red bell pepper, black beans, sharp cheddar, avocado, corn tortilla strips, sour cream, cilantro & lime wedges. Served with ancho chili dressing, salsa & choice of flour or corn tortillas7.29" I asked for no dairy, I got no bell pepper, no black beans, no avocado, no cilantro, no pico, no lime wedges, no tortillas. It was a to-go order for my work day so I couldn't take it back and have them correct it. Additionally, the person that rung my order up was rude. No way am I going back.

Eggs Benedict and hot chocolate. Both were outstanding! Poached eggs are something that most restaurants fail at but The Good Egg does not disappoint. And the hot chocolate was beyond decadent.

Good breakfast. Missing a specialty. Their best is mexican. The food is constant in quality. Can't hold it's own in bigger markets.... I e LA. Best tucson has to offer.

Anyways, my wife and I like the Good Egg, we've visited several times a month since my initial review. I like the location, especially the patio. The place is clean, the staff is helpful and friendly, I like that calorie counts are posted on the menu and I like the variety of selection and use local food suppliers. The Good Egg is a welcome addition to the breakfast/lunch scene in NW Tucson.

  • Steven T.

The place was clean and well lit, service was friendly and excellent but there was definitely areas for improvement in the food. Sausages were overcooked and the casing was very hard, breakfast potatoes were greasy and undercooked. Omelet was done perfectly however. Service - 5 Stars Food - 2.5 Stars Value - 2.5 Stars Total - 3.3 Stars

I live in the area and finally got to dine at The Good Egg! I took part of my Dining Trio (Gary, husband; mom wasn't with us this time). The converted Blockbuster store is a big space inside; I like the open airy ambiance plus they have some outdoor seating and a small counter area for dining. We were seated in a cozy table next to a front window. Friendly, young server. Nice large menu. I ordered coffee and a little different type of omelette (Caprese) with small whole wheat pancakes; Gary had the Denver omelette. Nice to have the whole wheat option. As it was after 1 pm, the place was half full. Nonetheless, our server was substantially slow in arriving. Once she took the order, my coffee took a long while to arrive also (close to when my food came). That surprised me a bit. I was about to ask for it when she did bring it. The omelettes were OK, not the most memorable. Gary's ham was less than tasty. My omelette was a creative, tasty combination, but was missing a key ingredient (the Kalamata olives). I didn't realize it until nearly done. I did then mention the mistake to the server; she was very sorry and brought me a container full of cut-up olives that would've gone into the omelette. I'm not sure that was the best resolution for the mistake (but I enjoyed the olives with the last few bites.) The syrup for the pancakes was nicely warm, but a bit watery. The pancakes were slightly flat. I was a bit disappointed in the level of service and food prep, given the food is not at the lower end of pricing. I think the servers (or at least my server) may need a little training on awareness about timing on serving items like coffee. However, I'd love to go again and give it a fair chance. They have a fun, interesting menu and a great location with easy parking and a nice, comfortable atmosphere. I looked around the people were very much enjoying themselves. I believe they are open until around 2:30, so it's a breakfast/lunch/brunch place.

Great place for breakfast or brunch. Kid friendly as well. We had a 1 year old with us and the waitress brought out a complimentary snack of Cheerios and apples for him! Juice blends were delicious and refreshing after our hike. I had the veggie skillet and loved it for a healthier option. Also had a short stack of blueberry pancakes which were also very good!

One star may be a bit harsh, but it's somewhere right between 1 and 2 stars. Oh fine, I'll go ahead and change it to 2 stars. The staff was fine, not great. Two things brought down the rating here. First, the menu. I have never seen such an overly complicated, long, confusing menu, and I've been to the Cheesecake Factory several times. The categories didn't make sense; there were too many similar, but not good looking options; you have to pick an "eggstra" (all the cutesy things on the menu just made it more confusing) and it was hard to even find where the "eggstras" were listed on the menu. I finally just closed my eyes and pointed at the omelette (fine, it wasn't that bad). Then the food. Did I mistakenly order a folded over frittata? I'm pretty sure I didn't. I'm not sure if it was laziness or lack of a basic understanding of breakfast foods or what, but my "omelette" was really just a folded over frittata (the ingredients cooked into the eggs instead of folded in). I'm guessing it was laziness. I wouldn't have thought that this would ruin the taste of the breakfast, but unless it was poorly cooked (not just wrongly cooked . . . cooked wrongly . . . whatever), it did. It wasn't good. I don't think I've eaten breakfast out in the Tucson area before, but I can't imagine that other places would be any worse. Go to one of them instead.

Great Breakfast! Fresh and Healthy Light Entrees and Classic Breakfast I had made to order pancakes with bananas, strawberries and pecans. In addition our waitress brought me the strawberry compote which was fresh and delicious (not syrupy or sugary). My friend had a Spanish Omelette with potatoes. He rated his meal a 5!

I love this restaurant. The food is always great. Service is spot on. The patio is very pleasant with a great view of Pusch Ridge. They make a custom dish for me since I'm vegan - the veggie skillet without cheese or egg that is divine. One of my favorite places for my friends and I to meet or ride our bikes to for breakfast.

It's okay, not great. We ordered a 1/2 sandwich & salad combo. The sandwich had 2 slices of turkey, a little lettuce, tomato, & onion. The salad had an itty bitty bunch of greens, onion, & tomato. The meal was dismal at best, very plain, it wasn't satisfying or memorable. The service was great. I appreciated that the waitress offered to go drinks to us, as it was already in the 90's outside. All in all I guess it depends of what you order. Our combo was $7, not worth it considering the portions. I would recommend eating outside, the views of the mountains are fantastic.

Love the location. But they changed the menu! My favorite was the pesto and parmesan benedict. I tried the sunrise benedict and not good. Ugh..please bring it back. I'd like to still go to good egg

If you what consistent good food, good service and support local biz, then good egg is your place! We visit this location at least 3 times a month. Always friendly and will give you great drinks to go!! Love the location and the staff:)

I will not return to this establishment. The people were ingeniously nice. We waited 45 minutes for our breakfast. And true to poor service fashion, the orders were wrong. The manager's excuse was the server was new. He took no responsibility. Three other tables also complained and said they would not return (they didn't have the same waitress as our table FYI). The table next to is mentioned not only did it take a long time to get their orders but the food was cold. Luckily that didn't happen to us. I gave this restaurant 2 stars simply because the food wasn't bad tasting. Just incorrect orders and poor quality of service. Depends on what's important to you.

Had breakfast here the other day while visiting Oro Valley. The food, staff and restaurant was all great. Food was tasty with many choices available. Was surprised that when we ordered coffee, we were asked if we wanted a light or dark roast! That's awesome. Also, they leave the coffee pot and carafe of water on the table, which I love! Three of us ordered spanish omelettes and a fourth ordered the veggie skillet I think. The omelettes come with your choice of a side (and there are numerous sides to choose from) as well as bread. I love that they include calories on the items, very helpful! Everything was tasty! Our server Anthony was very attentive and service was quick and accurate. The manager came by to ask how everything was. They have a nice outdoor eating area as well, which we took advantage of before returning to Seattle, where it will be at least another month or two before we can eat outside. :-) I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast!

Open early! YAY! Place was spotlessly clean, service excellent and food was good. Husband didnt like the hash browns, said they were undercooked and tough. Will certainly return, has an extensive menu that might serve up some wonderful other offers! I do like the information regarding calories and fat content on the items, healthful idea. Right after we arrived at 7AM, place was PACKED with a rather long waiting line. What does that tell you about breakky places to eat in OV?

We needed another choice for breakfast in Oro Valley. I have eaten here several times and the food and service are good.

Yay....a great place to have breakfast in Oro Valley! We went at 8am on Mother's Day thinking it would be crazy busy but we only waited about 5 min. They have done an amazing job of remodeling the old blockbuster and the outside patio is shaded with heaters for the winter and I assume misters for the summer! The food was awesome, just like the other Good Egg's, and the service was top notch! Oro Valley needed you Good Egg and we welcome you with open arms! As always my only complaint is the massive menu....too many choices isn't always a good thing!

Granted, it was Fathers Day and busy, but weekend mornings are always busy with people waiting outside for a table. We found two spots at the counter which still had dirty dishes from previous customers. A girl finally came to clear the and made a big production over pouring liquids into the same glass and stacking plates in front of us, . We were splashed with liquid and had crumbs brushed onto us as she wiped the counter. The food was served Luke-warm without silverware. A man next to us had a cold breakfast with unmelted cheese on it. A buser put a tub on the stool next to me and stacked dirty dishes and glasses while I was eating. Management is not paying attention to the way that things should be done. The food is just so-so and we won't be back.

Very over priced for what you get. My sandwich tasted like it had been microwave. Will not be going back.

The menu is extensive. My wife loves the Baja Shrimp Boat and orders it whenever we go. I haven't been so lucky. The dishes I've ordered have been skillfully prepared from quality ingredients, but none has made me eager to go back to order again. The earlier reviewer who mentioned the level of confusion among the staff hit the nail on the head. They are all college-aged kids who were obviously not trained well--the management's fault, not theirs. Since it's a new location, I'm sure that will improve over time. We'll stop in again.

Just got back from The Good Egg....I'm stuffed! Great food, great atmosphere and great service! I love that the calories are listed on the menu! Try their cinnamon roll ....if there are four of you to share it. It's enormous and delicious!

First time since this location opened. Was quite disappointed with the food since they are pricey. Ordered an omelette and the presentation left a lot to be desired. Didn't look appetizing, looked like it had been flattened by an iron; breakfast potatoes were dry, hard and way too crunchy to enjoy. OV needs more good eateries but definitely not like this one.

My family and I loved this place! Food was great and service was really good. We love the outside setting. The only not so great part is the wait time. It's always so busy when we go. But at least the wait is worth it!

Our neighborhood needed a good breakfast and brunch place like this. Since it opened it is always busy and full of happy customers. Food and Service are great. Normal Good Egg menu items, which says a lot. Great coffee!

I stopped going to Good Egg after a couple bad experiences at the other two locations. We tried this spot after a staycation nearby. There was a wait because it was Sunday around 10:30 a.m. but they offer you complimentary coffee and water while you wait and the hostess was friendly. I like that they bring Cheerios and apples for the baby...this little treat goes a long way. Our waitress was very kind and attentive and when our food was delayed she offered us a free cinnamon roll to snack on while we waited AND the manager came to our table to apologize. My husband got a grilled veggie panini with pesto and kalamata olives and he said "I could eat this everyday." I give them two thumbs up for how they handled the situation.

Best location in Tucson! Love the modern look of the Oro Valley store along with the smiling faces of the staff! The pancakes are amazing seeing as how you can create your own and the Monterey omelette remains my favorite for years now. Definitely a place to enjoy if you're a breakfast fan like me!

Really great food, friendly, attentive service. I've eaten at The Good Egg on River/Oracle and now their new location in Oro Valley. At both locations, the food is fresh, tasty, and well presented. Service is also good: friendly, prompt, and attentive staff. They have an amazing menu with a huge variety. We like it because we both love Eggs Benedict and they have several versions from which to choose. Recently ordered in for lunch at work; my order was ready on time, no waiting, and was packed in a great to-go container - with compartments - that kept the items separate, which I thought was great. The staff is really friendly, even on the phone, and I like that they can make change properly and know the old fashioned way of counting it back. That is so rare these days you should go just to witness it!

We have eaten at other locations and have enjoyed the menu options and food. We were excited to have a location near my elderly parents home. We joined them there recently and our anticipated lovely family meal was turned into a complete nightmare by a woman we assume was the manager ranting and criticizing from the kitchen area. We tried to cover the situation by keeping our visit going but my parents were so distracted by the anger coming clearly to our table that they were barely interested in finishing their meal. We called our server over and asked for our check; she inquired whether we needed boxes for our food and my poor mother said no we just want to get away from here now. From the apology we received from our server this is not an uncommon problem at this location. We can't understand why something this aborrant is allowed to continue in an apparently successful expanding business.

I have been frequenting Good Eggs around Arizona for at least the last 12 years... it has always been one of my favorite breakfast spots. Since I have been in Tucson for most of those 12 years, I was sadly disappointed when the location nearest to my job (Grant and Swan) fell completely sub par (staff turnover high, rude and useless, food tasteless and extremely small portions for the constantly rising prices)... enough to the point where I completely stopped going twice a week like I used to and stopped recommending the place to anyone I talked to. When the location in Oro Valley opened near my home, I was skeptical, but I guess old habits die hard. My husband and I went in the first week the opened and have gone back frequently since. The staff were welcoming and pleasant. My server was knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The manager stopped by and asked how our meal was. And now the most important part... the food. It reminded me of what the Good Egg food used to taste like at the Grant/Swan location years ago. The portions were good sized and everything was cooked the way I wanted it. It tasted great. My daughter claims the pancakes are the best she has ever had. I don't understand the lack of consistency from one restaurant to the other, but if you have had a bad experience at one of the Good Eggs in Tucson, then I highly recommend the one in Oro Valley...

Our go to breakfast place. It's not the Armitage but it's much better than the chain breakfast places. Food is consistent and so is service. Liz is the best and somehow we always get her section without even asking. My sis loves the four peaks French toast and I get the macho nacho without barbacoa. Huge servings. Kids love the pancakes & the little snacks they get while waiting for food to arrive. Oh also love their iced tea! The wait can be pretty long on the weekends but it's worth it.
