Tanias 33 has saved the day so many times in regards to placing last minute, emergency (stuff really hit the fan), situations. I've called in an order at noon, that I needed ready for 5pm, that same day & viola delicious vegan food served hot & ready. One time I had a small local caterer cancel 100 person order the week of, due to family emergencies, and again Tanias saved the day. It wasn't the same day that time, but still most places were telling me they needed at least 2 weeks for an order of that size. They are truly the last minute, emergency, catering masters! The food is delicious, home made, and healthy. You have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Their meats are also very good. This is a great place to get authentic Mexican soups, tamales, tortillas, and on point vegan/vegetarian dishes.

Man, has this place gone downhill. They forgot 2/3 my ingredients. Unlike another place I'll re-review in a sec, they didn't give me any grief when I called and complained about my pencil-thin "carne asada with cheese, cabbage, tomatillo salsa inside, and beans" burrito. I got: a teeny bit of meat and some unmelted shredded cheese, wrapped in a signature giant tortilla. Dry. Cold. They offered to remake it. Too bad I was already at work. They said they wrote down my name and they'd remember. But this is the second time I've had a bad experience at Tania's. The other one was the first time I ate inside, when they messed up my order and served it cold. I sent it back, and it took like 15 minutes to remake it. Since I haven't seen Rudy there in a while, I assume it's a supervisory issue? Don't know. But Tania's is an institution and I'm sad. I don't know if I want to go back for whatever I did to get revenge served cold. Note the previous five-star ROTD review? Revoked.

This place looks super cool. They have it organized and decorated like it is a franchise. Very simple interior. Nice menu. We ordered several items and I was not impressed. I did buy something I really liked just before we left. They have some very tasty desert tortilla chips - yummmm. I prefer Taco Giro just down the street. Give it a try ......

This is by far the greatest hole in the wall Mexican place in town! Sorry betos and Nicos nothing can touch this place! This place has a very comprehensive menu and has extensive vegan and veg selections as well! The jimica tea and all other Mexican drinks are so fresh and made on site. The soups are so good, save your self the cravings and just get the gallon size and take it home... Your going to want it! You can choose your size of burrito, tho the saddest part of this place is everything is so good you want to eat it all but it's so filling you can't!

After reading about this restaurant on a Tucson Vegan Facebook page, I was very excited to try it as I had never heard of it before and it is located close to our office. I walked in and was a bit overwhelmed at all the choices on the menu but the owner was so patient and he explained every single vegan item to me. He was so enthusiastic about his restaurant and the vegan choices they had. My husband and I ordered a couple vegan burritos and the cauliflower tacos and all were so yummy! Best cauliflower tacos we have ever had!!! They have several vegan options and we are excited to go back and try various combinations. The lemonade was the best I had ever tasted and they make all their own Mexican drinks. My only regret? Not knowing about this place sooner!

Service was quick on a Friday morning. The tortilla and meats make their breakfast and lunch burritos just that much better. Our orders were correct when they came out, and it seems like it only took 15 mins. The chorizo is some of the best, and the breakfast burritos alone are worth stopping in and trying, top 5 Tucson Breakfast Burritos hands down.

When I saw people bringing in their own pots for Menudo, I had to try a cup. I wish I had ordered a bowl. It was the best menudo I've ever had. I do wish I had some more meat than hominy. Next time, I will say don't be shy with the cow lining. I had the eggs and chorizo. It was also delicious. The chorizo wasn't greasy at all. They have large agua frescas which were also yummy. I def recommend it.

Our #1 place in Tucson for Mexican food. Best: avocado enchiladas, carne seca tostadas, and their (gi-nor-mous) cheese crisps!

Tanias 33 is one of those places that if you blink, you miss it. But honestly, you would be missing on some of the best Mexican Food you'll ever try! Their menu is so complete, and with so many choices that I doubt that anyone will say that they could not find anything to their liking! Their Red Menudo is DE-LI-CIOUS! Their carne asada burritos are so yummy! And if you need to feed a family of... let's say... 20 or so people, just order their XL burrito and you should have enough and even some left overs!! They are HUGE!! This place is family owned and operated, and so you know that the quality is consistent. Do yourself a favor and stop by, you will no regret it!

So be prepared to wait. Especially on the weekends. Today, I called in an order, and they completely lost it. Oh well mistakes happen. Breakfast burritos are delicious and their salsa is good too. I would give them 5 stars but it always takes longer than they say it will. My vegetarian friends love the veggie burritos. I also tried the grilled cheese with bacon and avocado. ... understandably a little greasy but delicious. .

The owners are passionate about their food and really try to make their customers happy. The salsa that went with my chili verde burrito was excellent. The burrito was delicious and customized to my preferences. Prices are a bargain for what you get. Place looks creepy from the outside but very comfortable inside. Good luck parking.

What an amazing place not only are the burritos huge and well priced, the number of ways you get to modify your personal meal is outstanding. They sell beans and soy chorizo in containers you can take home. Buy some tortillas and have the Tanias experience every morning.

Four and five stars? Give me a break! After reading all the reviews I decided to get breakfast here. Everybody brags about the burritos. I ordered Chorizo and eggs, added beans cheese and green chilis. It came out warm, not hot, on the inside and a cold tortilla on the outside. I also ordered a birria taco dorado. This was actually pretty good, but where I come from birria is goat, not beef. They were not busy as I came in about 11 AM and the man that took my order was very friendly and thanked me for stopping by. There were only 4 other customers. Will I be back? Maybe, but only to try the Caldos. Sorry, nothing exceptional here.

The Colorado posole is very good but my burrito was ice cold, mostly doughy flour tortilla and covered in a sticky thick tomato paste like sauce. I hated it. Cute place. Popular. Maybe go and get something else. 3 stars for the service and soup.
Your typical Tucson taqueria, Tania's is not. It seems to be a common assumption that Tucson's American Mexican joints are mostly similar: BK, Nico's, Guero Canelo, The Taco Shop, etc. For the most part, they are, though there's some nuance I'm not crediting completely. And as with most of them, the food and quality can be inconsistent. What makes Tania's such a great restaurant is its consistency. their made-in-house vegan meats (soy machaca, soy chorizo) have been crispy and juicy every time I've gone for the past three years. This is the only place in Tucson with such a variety of vegan options, which is what also makes this my favortite: I never feel like I'm sacrificing my options when I go here. In other words, where most places offer beans and shredded lettuce or cheese as the vegan option, Tania's doesn't banish me to the kid table in the corner for not selecting meat. For $4, I get the medium soy machaca burrito with beans, guacamole, and potatoes, and it's nearly the size of a burrito from Chipotle (I weighed it at 392 grams). The beans aren't made with lard, yet they still taste like they were still creamy and chunky. And I could taste no cayenne or cumin. Tania's also sells corn husks, 5 lb. bags of pre-mixed masa, Mexican coke, birria burritos to go, and milk for the kids. Don't be turned away by Tania's exterior or location. You'll miss out on Tucson's best (vegan) burritos.

Alone for the day, missing La Fuente, Yelp led me to five parking spots and five stars on Grande. Every comment about the outside is true, as well as the comments about inside (I'd give the bathroom a little more attention). 1982 John Naisbitt wrote Megatrends, where he stated "No organization can rise above its leader." Someone saavy needs to post a YouTube of the owner explaining the menu to a new customer. It is a performance with incredible patience. It's like a skilled surgeon explaining what can be done. You cannot doubt this man's passion for your happiness with his products. This guy is an industry leader. Glad to read others questioning themselves for going back x-number of times in a row. The first experience was so fantastic, all I wanted to do was take my wife there to meet the owner and taste his delicious food. And we did. The menu lists small servings at low prices (nice for seniors), but even their largest version of an item is ridiculously fair priced. Anyone hitting me up for a meal in Tucson better be ready to meet me at Tania's 33.

Tania's. Tania's. Tania's. Who deserves to be my first yelp review more so than Tania's? Nobody. There are so few Mexican food strongholds left, part of me dreads the day that this place, like all beautiful things in life, will come to an end. But we won't talk about that. Let's get straight to the point. Food!: Amazing. Outstanding. Serene. Divine. Price! I almost feel like I'm taking advantage of them for how good their prices are. Service! Just talk to Rudy for five minutes, you'll love the place even more. Atmosphere: Clean, comfortable, spacious, yet cozy. What more you want? Tania's, if you die, I'm leaving Tucson. The end.

Since I work of Speedway this little gem is just minutes down the road when I get off work. I learned about it while in nursing school, as the students would take up all their tables and delight over nachos while studying. This is healthy Mexican food if you ask them. They have a cute sign that says "Tamales=mexican power bar!" The inside of the restaurant is a on the industrial side with 20 foot tall ceilings. During the summer the place is quite warm to eat in. However, the food is consistent and wonderful. The menu is designed to please any sort of customer and they even have vegan options which are easy to identify. My most favorite thing is their drinks. My husband delights in their horchatta and I love their limonada. They have a huge freezer with buckets of freshly prepared drinks. In years past I could bring in bags to recycle and they would reward me with a free drink, and so frequently I will come with a travel mug or cup and they will fill it instead of using their togo cups. They are all about living green in Tucson. So far I haven't brought my own containers for food, but I have a feeling they would be delighted to accommodate. Tanias 33 offers a huge variety of foods to go. $3 dollar to go plates with a burro, tamale or 2 enchiladas with rice n beans. Killer deal. Every time I go I leave smiling. Every time I order I always get extra items so I can take it to work to enjoy the next day. Their soup especially is good for my soul. I always get a 1/2 gallon so i'll have some for a day or two afterwards; unless it's albondigas which we always eat up till it's gone. I biggest downer is the store front only has 4 parking spots off of Grande so be careful getting in and out.

Tania's 33 is the best hidden gem in town! It is by far the best burritos, best mexican and best dive eatery! The owners is bursting with enthusiasm for your appetite and dining experience! The menu is massive and covers part of the restaurant. This place has an old-school, traditional Mexican burro shop feel, but is actually cutting edge as far as I am concerned! They offer vegan and GF options! Everything from vegan twists on classic mexican soups and soy chorrizo. They close early, so get there in the afternoon, but this is a must for anyone in this city!

Easy to miss if you're driving by. The inside is a bit dark with out-dated furniture and decor. The carne asada tacos were amazing! The meet was flavorful and the tortillas were soft/fresh. The rice was also delicious. The cashier lady was probably the most bland person ever. Idk if this was a bad day for her, but I felt like nuisance and a bother when I was ordering my food. She was not friendly at all and clearly did not want to be there. To sum it up, this is a quick to-go kind of restaurant. The restaurant and service isn't very approachable or appealing, however; the food is delicious. Take it to go and enjoy it at your welcoming home!

I love Tanias 33. The chorizo breakfast burrito is a guaranteed hangover cure. I've gotten the tamales, and both flavors are awesome. I need to try more items on their menu. From what I've seen, everything is good. The food can be pretty greasy sometimes, but I think that's just part of the deal. Not much you can do about it. Also, one time the lady taking orders behind the counter remembered my name, and it made my whole day.

This place is the bomb.com ! Best breakfast burritos in Tucson, make sure to add green chile and tater tots, you won't regret it! Pretty good take-out tamales too. That said, the service is extremely inconsistent. I always order a burrito, and would say that 1/3 of the time I receive the wrong order - this happens so often that I basically expect it now. Seems strange considering that you tell them exactly what you want when you place your order.

This place has been a long time restaurant that I have frequented and I really like the fact that it's very easy to order as little food as much food as you would like anything from individual meal all the way up to a catering order. I have taking food to go as well as Eaten at this place and it is great. Rudy is an exceptional business man and even a realtor

Tanias has a huge menu selection and everything sounds like it would be delicious. We decided to dine in and tried the chorizo and eggs. The place was very chilly inside and being as it is a big wharehouse looking building I wasn't too surprised. However, I was surprised when the food came out the same temperature as the building. Sadly this put a huge damper on our experience. Both of our plates came out cold and while the flavor was there we were still let down. We might try to get take out next time, if we're in the neighborhood.

While this place looks truly sketch on the outside (and for which of the best places in Tucson is this not true?!), the inside is adorable. They have an easy to read menu, interesting vegan options, and killer horchata. We definitely prefer the breakfast burritos at La Fresita, Tonias is good solid Mexican food. Prices are a little higher here than other establishments in the neighborhood, but totally do able.

Tanias was a tale of two cities for me. When it was good, it was downright sublime. Some of the bad items though make me hesitate it to give it 4 stars. First, the bad since I'm a negative nancy like that. The fresa agua tasted like kool aid. Blech! The bathroom was nasty. My enchilada style burrito was cold, and I couldn't taste the guacamole or pico de gallo inside. The soy machaca burrito was very tasty although it didn't seem that close to real macacha. I did enjoy having an alternative to refried beans as a burrito filling, and I'm curious to try their soya verde next time. The salsas are good, but I didn't need all that much because their food is pretty spicy. I am a hot sauce freak so that is saying something. The horchata we got to replace the nasty fresa agua was a cold, sweet foe against all that heat. What truly blew me away was the spicy breaded cauliflower tacos from their "Ermagherd" specials board. I love when food can take you back to another time and place, and that's exactly what these did with me. They reminded me of eating fish burritos from Nico's when I was in college. It's one of the dishes that I dearly miss since becoming a vegetarian, so this was like a sweet reunion. Next time I will request that filling in one of their excellent tortillas.

With the recent closing of the taqueria at the Mercado, and the change in owners at Las Cuatas, my boyfriend and I have been on the search for great breakfast burritos in the neighborhood. We came here on a Sunday morning, and I was more than impressed with the number of veggie options for a breakfast burrito. I settled on a soy chorizo, egg, and potato burrito and was happy that the chorizo and eggs made up the bulk of the burrito. My boyfriend had similar things to say about their carne asada burrito on this visit, the bulk of the burrito was meat, and the meat was cooked well. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be standard though, as my boyfriend has been disappointed in his burrito on returning visits. I think we're still on the hunt for a new breakfast burrito joint.

Always looking for good vegetarian places in Tucson, especially Mexican food which we love, but don't just want beans and rice. This place is awesome with all their vegetarian and vegan options. I ordered a burrito with calabacitas, beans, rice, and guacamole. My husband also ordered a burrito with seasoned tofu, beans, rice, and guacamole. Both were very tasty and they have about 4 different size burritos you can order. The rice had a different taste compared to traditional Mexican rice, but it was good nonetheless. When you order a burrito you get your main protein with 3 additional ingredients of your choice. I noticed the cauliflower tacos after I ordered, I will have to try them next time. They have soyrizo and I believe soy cheese too. Thank you Tanias 33 for all you VEGETARIAN/VEGAN OPTIONS!!!!!

This is the broadest, most versatile Mexican restaurant in the entire city of Tucson. I know of no other that can manage a hugely diverse vegan menu while still catering to the carnivore. The proprietor is genial and solicitous to a fare- thee- well; he really cares about your menu selections and makes sure you're aware of all options. The 12-item menu of soups is beyond comprehensive, and TASTY AS HECK. Rah-rah Tania's!

Whenever we're in Tucson we have to go here. Sure, there's only 5 parking slots, it's ugly on the outside and also ugly on the inside, and the bathroom is a bit scary. But we go there for the food, which is the best Mexican food in town! The price is ridiculously low, and the owner will spend 1/2 hour explaining the menu - it is performance art, which he will cheerfully repeat to each customer. Small carne asada burrito with guacamole, green chiles, pico de gallo; and a side of beans = $4. Big glass of water with ice - free. Definitely worth the drive and the sometimes difficult time parking, and yes you may have to wait a while. Enjoy their website at tanias33.com .

Food was amazing and the price could not be beat. I will definitely be returning here to sample some more of the fare.

Tucsonans! Never fear! I have found the best beans on our fair city! Best beans ever. Seriously. We went in on Valentine's Day for lunch after the Desert Museum, and we had to take a long time to look at the menu. It's huge. I ended up going with the bean and cheese burrito with lettuce, guacamole, and pico de gallo (all of which you can add for free. Even the guacamole!) I made my date try my burrito, because even though he does not like beans, he needed to try these. And he liked them! That's how I knew they were the best. They have a ton of vegan stuff, too, which is super unique. I am curious to try vegan machaca and soy chorizo. I don't know how you could go about making these things, but I am willing to give it a try! We also got to try...I don't remember what it's called, but it was banana bread with various fruits in it. It was so good, and we found out the cashier had made it! I will indeed be back to try other things on their extensive and super inexpensive menu!

Terrible terrible experience. Used to love it however was treated rudely by management. waited almost two hours for three burritos and three tacos. Tacos were falling apart tacos weren't crispy falling apart we're told that we had tacos must be eaten within 10 minutes or risk being soggy and not crispy. was told to bring all food back and might get an approval from upper management to refund never asked for a refund just called to let them know how to unsatisfied we were never received an apology. when told they would get a bad review we were told do what you have to. When a bad review was given a reply was sent that we did not eat our tacos with in 10 minutes should have asked for the meat separately. Never received side of sour cream we ordered, asked for extra salsa was refused until another employee came over and placed a container in our bag. Was also told that we were offered full refund plus $10 none of it true then all comments from them were deleted. really sad how the manager "Diva" treated us on a Sunday afternoon $50 we could have just thrown away. the food is inconsistent and the customer service is terrible eat at your own risk.

This has to be the only authentic Mexican place in town with a large vegan menu. Since my wife is (mostly) vegan, that's perfect for us. Here are our respective reviews: Me: White menudo: okay red menudo: excellent--tasty and very tender green chili & potato taco dorado: excellent Other tacos: generally good My wife (the vegan): cauliflower taco: great calabacitas taco: bad (kind of gooey) soya verde: meh green chili & potato taco dorado: excellent FYI, they have 13 different soups every day. Edit: Breakfast burritos: good, but Fresita's are much better. Pozole colorado: nothing to write home about.

Friendly service, great vegetarian options, a bit high priced considering the ambiance and neighborhood. Do you not eat meat and wonder what Machaca or chorizo tastes like, or at least what a vegetarian rendition tastes like? Then give Tania's a try. This place has a huge menu mostly of burritos. Pic a general style, pick what additions you want, (green chillies, cheese, guac, pico etc...) pic a size (yes really from small to XXL) and you now have yourself a snack meal or gluttonous adventure depending on what size you have picked. The flavor of the vegetarian machaca was good, as were the other filling it made for a hardy burrito. The small cup of salsa was a bit lacking bu they will refill it if you ask. The menu also has other Mexican favorites like quesadillas. Seating is limmiting so you may want to get your food to go.

I have been going to Tanias every time I am in Tucson for about three years now. I don't live in Tucson anymore so I can't say with total assurance, but I believe this may be the best Mexican food in a town FULL of FANTASTIC Mexican food. Prices are extremely reasonable, portions are generous, food is off the charts good. Durring my week in Tucson I went to Tanias several different times. I had breakfast burritos (egg, potato, cheese and green chile-oh those green chiles are heaven!), fish tacos (yum!) and the Pollo Ranchero Burritos (excellent!). The tortillas are awesome, the chicken is deliciously tender, and the breakfast burritos are addictive so be warned! Oh, and let me not forget the Horchata! Best Horchata I've ever had! The super casual atmosphere of Tanias is part of the appeal. If the menus overwhelm you, the people at the counter seem happy to help explain the options. Don't forget to check in the cooler for lots of take-home treats like packages of those excellent tortillas, grab and go burritos, and cans of cold Jamaica. Tanias is easy to miss since its tucked in behind its more colorful next door neighbor, Taco Giro. If you are coming from 6th st. Tanias is just beyond Taco Giro, if you are headed in from Speedway Tanias is the building with the blue awning, right before Taco Giro.

Vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters: Get thyself to Tania's on Grande! This location is close to my home so it's the only Tania's I've been to, and I've been a lot! I love the wide selection of breakfast and lunch items, as well as a nice supply of stuff in the fridge that you can take home at cheap prices (premaid rice, beans and tamales as well as fixings to make your own tamales). The menus are gigantic and hang behind the counter and make your selection choosing tough. Really hungry? Order an extra size burrito for $7.99- and trust me, this thing is big! There is a lot of vegan options including soy chorizo. I can't even tell the difference between the tofu and the meat! There is a vegan taco salad. The potatoes and beans are fresh and hot, the tortillas absolutely delicious. The last time I picked up a small bag of cinnamon chips ($1.25) to cleanse the palate while my mouth burned. Two people can get out of there for about $11.00, more if you buy a Horchata or Strawberry drink. There is no drive-through, so park it and enjoy a yummy Tania's meal! Not a 24 hour place either.

I've been meaning to write this place a 5 star review for some time. I've probably been in almost an average of once a week since discovering this place a couple months ago. I think they have the best breakfast burritos and Mexican soups in town. Today I got a pickup order of a medium breakfast burrito and a gallon of red menudo (my favorite). The Menudo was great as always but the burrito tasted off. We soon found out why... Our side of red salsa which was also on the burrito was slowly bubbling. It had an acidic/alcoholic bite to it as was fizzy with the mouthfeel of fresh kimchi (in other words, it was fermenting). Additionally the limes that came with the soup were yellowing and had the smell of half lime, half blue cheese. Needless to say this was all pretty disgusting and shook my confidence in how things are prepared and stored at Tania's. The food today was potentially dangerous and totally unacceptable. How could this not be noticed? I'll be going back at least once more to see if they've cleaned up their act. I'd love to someday write this place the 5 star review it otherwise deserves.

Best Burritos in Tucson. 64 Burritos starting at 3 bucks. They have a variety of vegan and vegetarian burritos and tacos. They will remember your name and owner Rudy Lira even gives out his Tamale recipe! 614 N. Grande Ave. Tucson, AZ 85745.

YES I'M A NATIVE, but I've never been here before! Shame on me! LOL! Thankfully my friend Karen invited me to lunch here the other day (would have reviewed than, but the site was down). GREAT Cheery place as soon as you walk in! Colorful, MODERN feel to it! I am trying to go vegetarian, and lead into vegan, so I thought I was going to have a hard time. BUT to my surprise plenty of vegan options. My friend loves the calabazitas (squash) burrito, and you get choice of FREE extras, that includes beans, guacamole (can you believe FREE?) cabbage to name a few. So I felt like a taco :) ... so I thought I would go for the calabazita tacos, then the cashier there, pointed out a photo of their cauliflower taco! Both cashiers were very talkative, helpful and friendly. So I went for one cauliflower, and one calabazita taco! While the calabazita taco was very good, the cauliflower taco was to DIE FOR!! We also had the horchata, very creamy because of the can milk they add to it, so not vegan. I also thought it was GREAT that they have many take-home items, like home-made salsa & red enchilada sauce! I didn't get to try their beans yet. Because I am Mexican, who was lucky to have grown up with a mother that cooked all the time, including homemade tortillas, (about 3 dozen a day!), and beans from scratch, EVERYDAY, I'm hardcore when it comes to beans! So saving that for a special day to give it my complete attention! :)

I come here often because it's some of the best Mexican food I've found in Tucson (and I've lived here for 24 years!) The first time you walk into Tanias 33 it is really overwhelming. Over the counter are giant hanging paper menus that are really pretty silly. But the information is there- you just have to take a minute and digest it. It could be redone to make things a little more streamlined and much less confusing, but after frequenting Tanias a few times, it just becomes part of its charm. One of the most unique things about this restaurant is the combination of really authentic Mexican food and VEGAN options! They offer soy chorizo, soy machaca, soy ceviche, etc. The soy chorizo is good, but the soy machaca and soya verde I was not impressed with. The chunks of soy were tough and difficult to chew. Even though they offer the "fake meat" vegan options, I usually end up with a burrito with green chili strips or nopalitos instead. They have some of the best refried beans I've ever had! The other great thing they do is let you add 3 extras into any burrito at no extra charge! These include things like guacamole (yes, guac for FREE), potatoes, cabbage, pico de gallo, and more. I will continue to be a regular at Tanias 33 as long as they keep churning out delicious, authentic vegan Mexican food!

So I went here today for the first time on my brother's recommendation, though he had never been himself. I guess he had heard good things from a number of people, and seeing as how he's a vegetarian, learned that this place was extremely vegetarian friendly--and is it! Rudy, the man behind the counter, is freakin' awesome. It seems that nothing will make this man happier than to ensure that you have an amazing meal and that its exactly what you want. The menu is very extensive--far moreso than what the website implies--and you have nearly infinite options to choose from. Rudy is the guy who's gonna help you navigate, and he's very good at his job. The vegetarian options at this place are ridiculous. Ive had soy chorizo before, and have even been to one mexican restaurant that offered it as an option, but that is just the beginning for these guys. Try vegan pozole! Or how about soy green chile? Ok, here's one I guarantee nobody's ever seen before: soy chicharrones! I mean, wow! But it doesnt stop there. Of course they have calabacitas, napolitos, and lots of other veggie and non-lard-infused dishes as well. My brother wanted to try an assortment of vegetarian options, and Rudy was happy to make some suggestions. Finally, he settled on Napolitos (cactus) enchiladas, soya verde taco, and a calabacitas (zucchini) tostada combo which came with rice beans and chips & salsa. I was in the mood for chicken and just had to order the dish by which I judge many Mexican restaurants: a chicken chimichanga, enchilada style. I know chimis are not exactly truly mexican, but its got more to do with the filling and the enchilada sauce than it does the whole fried burrito thing. They do their chicken 3 ways: Plain, Ranchero, and uhm...something else. I went ranchero which had onion, tomato, and green chiles along with the shredded chicken, and you're able to add 3 additional toppings for free. I added cabbage, rice, and cheese to mine as well. Chimi style and enchilada style are only two of about 6 different styles they offer your burrito. This is true customization here... But wait! There's more! Last but not least, pick your size. There's 4 sizes to their burritos: Small, regular, large and XXL. I went regular because their display showing the sizes made me realize that was going to be plenty. The prices are really quite fair here, and you if you dont go all crazy with the customization, you could get a meal on the super-cheap. I was originally going to give this place 4 stars, because my chimi was very good, but I have to admit Ive had some slightly better ones in the past. But that being said, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and I ate every single ounce of it--and was happy to do so, I might add! But there are three things that kicked this place up to 5 stars for me: The extensive vegetarian options, the full customization approach they take towards their menu, and Rudy. I really wish there was someone like this at every restaurant I ever eat at. At the end, he remembered our names, shook our hands, and thanked us profoundly for giving him the opportunity to provide us with a good meal. Just outstanding! One thing to be mindful of, this place has VERY limited parking, so you may have to be creative with your parking location. Really only a minor issue though, and totally worth the minor inconvenience.

I have been a patron of Tania's for the last 20 years, I have gone morning, noon and whenever, I have ordered their food for catering and so on. Today I am not a frequent flyer, I miss the days of Rudy behind the counter asking a million questions, sweating profusely, and telling me of his latest business ventures ( one of which was real estate, plastered all over the wall were his listings). Today the food is still good the restaurant is run down, there is no Rudy, service is slow. I will still go by and get food but the soul of the place has gone down a deep black hole. The soul was one of the main reasons for me going there, now is gone, so sad.

Authentic vegan Mexican food? No way! I thought meat wrapped in lard drenched pancakes was the only thing Mexicans ate. At Tania's, you can get it all, lard, meat, fake meat, beans, rice... A menacing menu. and seriously, if you like good Mexican food and you eat meat or you don't, you can eat good food for a good price here. Eat local! For the record, if you ask for your food to be vegan, they take this seriously, going so far as to make enchilada sauce on the spot for me. Supposedly four vegan nurses from saint Mary's hospital got them started. I always get the soy chorizo, bean and potato burrito. The salsa and guacamole are great. The beans are mediocre. (side note: the guy at the counter is enthusiastic and quite into costumer satisfaction. I eat there a lot and he still goes into his spiel about three for free. If he weren't so kind, I'd think he was a robot).

I'm a huge fan of Tania's. Friendly and prompt service, cheap prices, great combination options, great for takeout, locally owned, big menu, GOOD food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The perfect hole in the wall. Been here a lot of times since discovering it was close to my school. They also sell tortillas, chips, cheap packaged lunches, tamales, etc. I only wish it was a bit bigger so it could have more seats for dining in!

In October I had Tania's 33 cater my wedding food and OH MY GOSH! The guests loved everything. I high recommend having Tania's cater your next event the owner Rudy was so helpful in choosing what was best for the guests and my husband and I. The prices were reasonable for a party of 50, my only regret is that I should have ordered more food! We ran out because it was that good.

I was surprised to see that Tania's only got 3.5 stars because I think it's one of the best places in town, Mexican or otherwise. First of all, you have to love their handmade sign out front that says "Tamales: Mexican Energy Bars". I can see why it might be a little overwhelming for first timers as their menu is gigantic and somewhat confusing. But you can pretty much order anything and it will be delicious. I love all of the vegetarian options they have, and that you can choose any 5 toppings to add to your burrito. The burritos are probably my least favorite thing on the menu, although nothing can beat a Tania's breakfast burrito for a hangover. I highly recommend the combination plates, especially the enchiladas. The food is all delicious and fresh and the beans and rice are amazing. I love Tania's more every time I go.

I've been here 4 times and have always been impressed. I consider the cuisine "hippie mexican" because the place is down home, laid back, simple and friendly. The staff is very accommodating & helpful in negotiating the large menu, which is posted up above. I've only tried one soup (tortilla) and it was the best I've had...I did eat in, and to-go the tortilla chips might get a little soggy. Also, everything comes in many sizes. There are fresh tortillas, and the salsa and beans are excellent. It is simply very high quality food (home cooking) without pretense. I wish this place were closer to where I live, I'd be there every week! I wish the seating were more extensive (there are 5 tables) and the parking lot was bigger....but as for food, service, and ambience, you can't beat Tania's!

My husband and I finally tried it a few weeks ago and have eaten here four times already! I've never encountered a mexican restaurant with so many vegan choices. So far I've tried the cauliflower tacos, bean & green chili enchiladas, soy sausage burrito and the veggie ceviche. Everything I've eaten so far has been excellent! The large menu selection seemed overwhelming to me at first, but now I look forward to working my way through the menu. Can't wait to see what I try next!

Took one of the daughters to Tanias for lunch. The place has not changed in 20 years, and this is a good thing. Much to choose from and this is a place you can take your vegetarian and/or vegan friends. They have many items targeted at the non-meat eating crowd. I had a red chili burro with beans and rice and it was great! Lots of food and very tasty. They people behind the counter are very friendly and helpful if you aren't sure what you want. This is another Tucson Classic!

PARTY! Recently ordered about 6 gallons worth of food from Tania's for a massive party we were throwing for a make your own burrito night. It was a huge success! We ordered a 100% vegan menu and everyone loved it (meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike). I ordered all of the food a few days in advance from the owners Rudy & Pat. They were incredibly helpful in suggestion a menu that worked for our budget and would more than feed all 25+ of our guests. We planned about 9 bucks a head and still have a TON of food left. Now these are som leftovers I can get behind! We certainly could have ordered half the food and still fed everyone. We go here for breakfast and lunch on a regular basis as well. I love the no frills atmosphere and super fast service. No holds barred A+

Holy cow, this place was awesome. So many vegan options! Really take your time to look at the menu though, because there is a LOT to look at, and the way the menu is set up is kind of confusing. They could really benefit from a "Start here! Step 1: etc" to simplify the process of knowing how to order, what options you have, etc. Menu aside though, the food was AMAZING. I had the soy chorizo, potato, and cilantro burrito. I didn't realize that you could get veggies, salsa, guacamole, cabbage, lemon, etc added inside it, so I had mine plain and it was still really good.

Pretty good, in general. The rice wasn't anything out of this world, or the tortilla soup, but the carne asada was delicious. The only thing I actively disliked was the horchata, which was massively over-sweet. The burrito prices are a little on the high side, but meh. I normally would give a three star, but their menu is massive and very customizable. I think this place needs more exposure with the vegetarian/vegan community, because this is literally the largest selection of veggie friendly food I've seen, and also not limited to veggie burgers and quinoa/mushrooms/tofu.

This place is soooooo good. A huge vegan selection and they make the soy chorizo from scratch! I wish they were in Cali! Fantastic customer service! Prices are so reasonable it's almost stealing. Definitely check it out!

I was so excited to try this place, that I planned a lunch date with my boyfriend. I wasn't impressed. Okay guys, I'm only being honest, but it was a little dirty and VERY unorganized. The iced tea hadn't been made for the day (it was after 12 noon) and it took forrrrever to get our chips and salsa and our food. They put cheese on top of my vegan burrito, which makes me think they may use animal products here and there for food preparation.

Tanias 33 has many VEGETARIAN and VEGAN options, as well as meat and such. I highly recommend the calabacitas burrito (it is relatively light and refreshing) while the soya verde and the soya chorizo are a bit heavy and more filling if your into that kind of thing. The staff here are very friendly and they know the menu well, so if you are looking for vegan or vegetarian options (which are clearly noted on the menu) just ask your server. You tell them what you want in your burrito, so there are no surprises when you take your first bite. They make their own tortillas and their salsa is fantastic. Tanias 33 is a great breakfast burrito and lunch spot, but they do close a bit early (6pm?) so keep that in mind. There is a fun local hole-in-the-wall vibe, which is a refreshing contrast to all the corporate burrito chains. Tanias 33 would be my favorite vegan burrito in town (so far). Check it out!

At first when I walked in.... I am thinking .....ummmmm, not too sure about this, but then I decided to give it a try. We ordered 2 soups and toe vegan burritos. First the positive: the soya chile verde burrito was the best. Very tasty, would have eaten two. My hubby liked his chicken albondigas soup. Would recommend to the owners that the corn tortillas be a little more quality, as they were those paper thin ones that tear apart when heating, that the soy chorizo be less dry and less salty. I only took two bites of the sly chorizo and potatoes burrito and could not enjoy it at all......tooooooo salty and dry. The vegetarian soup was OK. I would go again for the soy green chile burrito.

Was in Tucson for a wedding and I could not pass up the chance to take some food from Tania's home. It was just as good as I remembered. My choice--the barbacoa. It has been a favorite for years and when I lived in Tucson, I would have to buy some for my mom whenever I went to visit her in Phoenix. Also the tortillas are TO DIE FOR! There is nothing like getting to Tania's early in the morning while the bags of tortillas are still warm and steamy. Having one of those tortillas on the way home or to work was the highlight of my day. My husband and I are planning a belated wedding reception for ourselves soon. We plan to have a Tucson friend buy barbacoa and tortillas for us to serve because we can't find anything to compare in the Phoenix area. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

By far the worst restaurants I have ever been too. My food was served cold my beans were dry as though they were sitting there for 2 days. I couldn't even eat it. Just bad. I can't believe anyone would go here! I don't know how it stays in business the building is gross.

holy cow. i am in love. first of all, this place should definitely not have $$, its probably one of the cheapest places I've been to in tucson! went here for breakfast and got the beef chorizo breakfast burrito w/potatoes - for a grand total of $3.46 (including tax). get the small unless you have a HUGE appetite AND are a large man. I can definitely eat a lot and the small was even too much for me. What impressed me the most was that the burrito was mostly beef, not chock full of filler, or even heavy on the eggs which are cheaper. it was simple, super delicious, and had the best flavor. and was served with a really tasty salsa. their lunch menu looked killer as well, and i can't wait to come back here asap!!

I recently moved to this Barrio and this is the last food to sample. I was impressed by all the vegetarian options here. I ordered a bean/potato breakfast burro with salsa on the side for under $5. The potatoes were not cooked all the way and the tortilla was thicker than I am used to. So I left still hungry since I just picked through it. The price was higher than most of the other places in the Barrio too. To sum it up - Meh, I have had much better. If you like Chipotles, any other similar chains, you will like this place. I am going back to the long lines at St. Mary's and order my veg breakfast burro for $3.60 that I save 1/2 for later.

Best cheese crisp I have ever eaten. The cheese crisp was beautifully decorated like a flag with green chile and tomato. There are almost too many choices at Tania's. It looks like an empty takeout place, but it is fairly big inside and there are places to sit down. I did see a few families inside and the lunch hour was busy. The owner is nice and friendly, way hyper and extremely helpful to customers. He told me that they usually have 12 different types of soups, but they only had 10 today. If you mention it, you can get a burrito, soup, and a drink for $5.99. This is special #5. I guess a couple times, that special has been $3.99. Ask for the specials like rachelle c mentioned. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, you will not go hungry. They even have wheat tortillas. There is more than just salsa and lettuce with hopes that everything is not laden in lard. There is ceviche without seafood and breakfast burritos all day. I saw plenty of people walk in with buckets to get menudo and pozole refills. The only reason I couldn't rate Tania's a 5 is because my stomach is sensitive to grease even after I blot the food, so next time I will just stick to the soups and ceviche. Highly recommend Tania's!

I don't understand the first two reviews below. The last time I went there, I was given a "green card" which entitled me to discounts should I do any of a bunch of environmentally friendly things (carpooling, bringing in recyclables, etc). They actually seem more environmentally conscious than any small taquerÃa (or large restaurant of any kind, come to think of it) that I know of. Also, the food is great, and more than reasonable (how could you possibly claim that really good 99c burritos are overpriced?) They also have a cooler of pre-plated cold food to go (though these may, indeed be on disposable plates), which make great deals to grab and go. The last time I went, I was with a big group (at least ten of us), and I think every single person was satisfied.

i used to eat here lots for their breakfast burritos - which are out of this world - but they are a little on the pricy side next to all of the drive-thru bleh breakfast burritos you can get for less than $2.49. after nearly a year, i had a breakfast burrito again this morning (i think it was $3.99) and i remembered what all the fuss was about. the potatoes are divine. you can also tell that it was an actual egg that went into making it, and everything is in just the right proportions. while i was waiting for my burrito (to go), the guy behind the counter urged me to try their new soy ceviche, which i tried and i was not disappointed. i forgot that this restaurant has many choices for vegetarians! (do not dispair - there is food for meat eaters as well.) he also gave me a sample of the sopa de fideo (noodle soup). so delicious! i came back for lunch today and got the soy ceviche plate ($4.99). i just finished and i feel i am in heaven! how did i ever forget about this place? i may go back tomorrow!

This place is a bad and sick joke. Aside from the tortillas, they don't know the first thing about food service. The prices are ridiculous for what is offered. The interior is unorganized and uninviting. Not the least bit comfy. Ordering is an endeavor at the counter with a person who expects you to read their mind. Blank stares and no greeting. So much Fun! Special requests are difficult to negotiate. There is one hombre behind the counter and a few non-english speaking hermanas helping him. Everything is served on foam and plastic. Way to go Tania's! Let's all turn the planet into a toxic cloud of black gas. Yeah! Their coffee sucked so hard, I couldn't finish one cup (more styrofoam of course added to the already rancid flavor). I asked the clueless hombre if he could make a fresh pot. He did and it tasted the same. Horrible. Absolutely ghastly! They have no chilies. Did you get this? Shall I repeat it?.... They have no chilies! How, in the name of everything Mexican, can a Mex restaurant not have chilies? Ok, I gotta back up, they had a few green New Mexican chili bits in their ranchero sauce. The mild "Ortega" style chilies, no doubt out of a can. Pathetic. The tortillas were good, but they will not be calling me back to this worthless, and careless attempt at food service. Yelp wont allow you to rate with NO STARS, or MINUS STARS. One star is too many. This place rates a minus in my opinion.

I did not navigate to this site to write a review, I was hungry, and looking to see if Tania's had a website...you know, just to drool, or get ideas on what to make for dinner. I saw here three lonely reviews...two of which, did not seem like they could be for the correct restaurant, though I know they are because they mentioned the foam plates. The food at Tania's is Sooooooooo good, I'd eat it off any kind of plate!!! I don't need fancy plates to make my meal great...Tania's does it just by simply doing what they do best. I lived in Tucson for 16 years, and though great Mexican food is all around....Tania's was always a place to head to for truly authentic, great Mexican food. When I go back to visit Tucson, it is one of my essential stops and I always leave room in my bag for tortillas to take back to New York. I love the people who work at Tania's though I do not know them personally, or even remember their names, they treat me so kindly, it makes me feel like a 'regular' even when I am not. When I was in Tucson for a week a couple years ago, I ate at Tania's twice a day! For that short time...I was a regular. Anyway....I dream of Tania's...wish I could go there right now. It will have to suffice for my friends to go and send me photos of them at Tania's and photos of what they are eating. Oh....now I want to go to Tania's again!!!! Mmmmmmmmm

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(5)Sean A.

I also tried the grilled cheese with bacon and avocado. ... understandably a little greasy but delicious. .
(4)Steve T.
The owners are passionate about their food and really try to make their customers happy. The salsa that went with my chili verde burrito was excellent. The burrito was delicious and customized to my preferences. Prices are a bargain for what you get. Place looks creepy from the outside but very comfortable inside. Good luck parking.
(5)Ricky V.
What an amazing place not only are the burritos huge and well priced, the number of ways you get to modify your personal meal is outstanding. They sell beans and soy chorizo in containers you can take home. Buy some tortillas and have the Tanias experience every morning.
(5)Don N.
(3)Douglas W.

The end.

This place is delicious! the combo plates give a ton of food and are all good. I especially like that they have multiple burrito sizes. Best breakfast burrito in town (sorry Nicos).
(4)Maynard G.
Just tried the menudo so far. Good friendly down home place. Nothing fancy.

(5)Fernandez S.
I can see why this place has been around for years!! The owner has the best customer service skills. Cheap prices. Only thing I didn't like we're the tamales from freezer. Everything else is great
(5)Jes O.
Awesome burritos and amazing prices!!!
(5)Nancy L.
(3)Hannah E.
Love this place! So many options! Their soy machaca is pretty good if I'm feeling like a veggie. Their menudo is also very yummy. A+!
(5)Jesse G.
(5)Ronald W.
Everything is good. It a city that has a lot of options for inexpensive Mexican food Tania's is one of the best.
(5)Thomas M.
(4)Carina L.
I have been coming to Tania's since I was a little girl, they always have a diverse menu and amazing soups! I recently decided to start eating vegan and they have such a huge selection of vegan entrees that it makes the transition so easy!!!
(5)Veena G.
Friendly staff, homemade tortillas and amazing vegetarian and vegan options! I no longer live in Tucson but always make sure to stop here when I'm in town. Such delicious food- the lentejas are a must try item.
(5)Agustin O.
This place has been a long time restaurant that I have frequented and I really like the fact that it's very easy to order as little food as much food as you would like anything from individual meal all the way up to a catering order. I have taking food to go as well as Eaten at this place and it is great. Rudy is an exceptional business man and even a realtor
(5)Max F.
You can't find a better carne asada burrito for $5! The ingredients are fresh, the service is great, and the prices are fantastic.
(5)Bianca A.
(3)Austin S.
(4)Stephanie T.

(3)Randin M.
(4)Monique K.
The owner helped us, and was VERY generous. He explained the menu, and helped us make the most economical choices. Food was so delicious, and reminded me of my Nana's!!! Definitely returning here!
(5)Rachel G.
(5)Mike K.
Again visiting Tucson and always go and appreciate the great food here. Breakfast burritos are the best. Must TRY!! $$
(5)Maile C.
(5)Bobby C.

(5)Krystle D.
This place is a vegetarian/vegan gem. Order the tacos-- 3 for $5.00. You can mix and match them. Also the juices made here are fresh and very tasty. Great ambiance, music, and friendly staff.
(5)Jimmy O.
Gave it another try. This time it was better than last. I had a machaca and egg large breakfast burrito, Really good! I really like consistency and I will return but, I will keep my guard up. Like their menu veggie options and Menudo is not bad. Way to go tanias you just got a regular customer.
(3)Rebekah W.
The posole was delicious, the tortilla was fresh and the beans were great. The lady taking our order was such a sweetie too, we will definitely be back.
(5)Christina M.
We had the carne asada quesidillia today, which has been my favorite entree so far, love, love, love!!! Definately going back for another soon!
(4)Ericka D.
This place a wide variety of mexican food. I was feeling under the weather and came for some chicken soup. It was delicious! On other occasions I come here for tacos, which are pretty awesome as well :)

(5)Collin L.
(2)Kim A.

Amazing selections for vegetarians/vegans
(4)Fringe O.
Awesome food! I just tried the new vegan "fish" tacos made with cauliflower....sooo good! There are LOTS of vegan options and the service is very friendly. This is the best Mexican food I've had in Tucson. I will keep going back and trying new dishes.
(4)Deanna R.

(5)Mark A.
(3)Jace M.
(5)Sabrina D.
(5)Liz W.
(5)Kate C.
(5)Jean C.
(5)Susan R.

Great place to grab some authentic Mexican. Menu is very large and the atmosphere is casual and perfect for this type of meal.

Love this place! Love all the veggie options. The calabacita tacos are so good. We will be coming here a lot!

Mmmmmmmmm
