My favorite place in town...er was. Came back to Tucson after being in Seattle for three years and was saddened to hear chef Yun was gone. Does anyone know where his new restaurant is??? Sake''s and a roll is on me if someone is willing to throw me a bone here. :)

Starting with the bottom line: Get in the boat next to Fredo as you are dead to me. Ok sit on my lap and I will tell you a story, in this case it is a sad japanese story of an unrequited love triangle between Kyle, Inari, and soft shell crab roll. On one late evening in may as the hot day transitioned into a lovely clear mild night, students commenced their lives away from school. In honor of such a momentous event Kyle and his special lady friend decided to take a newly graduated young man and show him the lovely and playful nature of the genre known as sushi. However being such a lovely night the mass of young folks and their families slowed our departure keeping us from arriving at the restaurant until 9:30 as our party walked into this house of fishy and ricely delights. We were not greated with the customary ohiyo gozaimasu nor a konichiwa, not even a hello. Rather the greeting at this place was "WE CLOSE IN 30 MINUTE!" After finding our own seats the stern matron plunked down a stack of menus and Quipped "WHAT YOU WANT TO DRINK!" Fearless and stead fast in my unflinching response "Diet Coke please." "Cold green tee, for me" said regular lady friend "water will be fine" inserted special lady friend. The clever now former student had used this time to read the menu and requested a cherry pepsi. In horror and befuddlement the well experienced waitress quested for clarification with the inquisitively demanding "CHERRY COKE?!" The young man narrowly averted disaster by acquiescing to the change of brands. In respect of the Heavily implied time constraints I lodged a request for an appearance of my former old flame to stop by the table, gyoza. After some confusion about the meaning of what ONE ORDER of gyoza meant. She left us to scour the menus for the courses of this momentous feast. With a lovers precision I snatched the sushi checklist maguro check, tamago check, spicy yellow tail roll check. At last soft shell crab roll, she often hides under many names often going as spider roll, but something is wrong where is Inari she is no where to be found I look and look then look again, no no no. Maybe be she is hiding in the appetizer section of the regular menu with much sadness I resign my self the lament that she is simply not here. Oh well I tell my self I can be consoled in the delightfully fried deoapodian arms. But when she arrived our love and her flavors had gone south I was forced to take solace in cheap tawdry embrace of a california roll and her spicy sister spicy yellow tail. While their common and uninspired ingredients were clearly not crafted by a master or even a lowly apprentice but at this late hour what is a boy to do. At the end of this night of missed connections a completely Illegible good bye (a completely illegible check) letter was deposited the plastic card of debit was customarily exchanged. Upon approval a neatly printed paper with legible number was given in return, a small accounting exercise was conducted In subterfuge as not to ruin or worry the former student's once in a lifetime night. The conclusion reached was either they charged for every half full glass of soda whisked away and refilled or a party of 5 gets an automatic gratuity added. Additional funds were not rendered and all that was left on the table was a legible signature. NUTSHELL; They tried their damnedest to ruin a graduation dinner by serving a bad/burnt soft shell crab roll all while giving me the WORST service I have ever got at a sushi restaurant. All while over charging me! I wouldnt set foot in that place if my mom was in there and needed the Heimlich maneuver.

Hello... is it me you're looking for? Yes, Sachiko Sushi! I have been searching for someone like you! Someone who's the real thing. I got take out but I'd definitely be back to dine in. There are several sushi chefs behind the bar. The menu had a list of lunch specials. There are also signs with specials all over the restaurant. I ordered a iced green tea, a ten don (as in tempura donburi) and the Arizona roll. Everything (including tip) was just under $20. Green tea was made from macha powder... delicious and refreshing. Ten don had hot crispy tempura and sweet sauce over rice. The sushi had very fresh fish. I grew up in Hawaii and I know my fish! Service was great. The servers were attentive and sweet. They offered me water and a seat while I waited. They were busy checking on tables in the restaurant. There's also a location on E. Valencia near the airport.

I LOVE this place! Best sushi in town. Always fresh and a large selection so you can always try something new. The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. The free miso soup and edamame are delicious! Many times I have left here feeling like that was the perfect sushi meal, until I come back next time. It is a little pricey (hey, it's sushi!) and there is no happy hour, but they do send coupons in the mail, so that saves. I would recommend this place for sure!

You can taste authenticity when you come to Sachiko. The fun and very kind owners who opened the restaurant and have kept it true to their roots. The quality of the food is consistent and tasty and I they keep it seasonal. The selection of what they offer is amazing - I don't know how they do it. Being able to speak Japanese, I always enjoy talking to the owner and the chefs and it will often prompt friendly conversations with the sushi bar neighbors. There is usually a good number of people dining there - even into the later hours - that is a testament to their quality and loyalty of their customers. Curry, Sushi, Sashimi, Ramen, Rice, you will enjoy the atmosphere and the prices are very reasonable. A short note in Japanese: ここはとてもおいしいです。本当にお寿司はホンマのです。壁に色なスペシャルがはってるから見てみたほうがいい。ねだんもいいです。あと、ビールも酒もあります。所有者は日本人でよく分かります。楽しんで下さい。

Today's lunch was a tad ill-planned on my part, as my partner and I found ourselves hungry during the sushi-siesta hour. After a failed attempt to go to Yoshimatsu, we ended up at Sachiko, a solid standby. Service was prompt and smiling, with the help of several people in staff (not much else to do, I suppose - there was only one patron when we arrived. Miso soup and edamame were quickly followed by shrimp shumai, slightly gummy and served with a watery mustard but not altogether unpalatable. Next up was a large seaweed salad, easily shared by the two of us with neon green bits to spare. As much as I wanted to order the Godzira roll, tempura shrimp always seems like a wasted opportunity at a Japanese restaurant. Instead we tried the Oregon roll, spicy tuna maki (his idea, again a wasted opportunity in my book) and hamachi nigiri. Nothing was a major standout, so perhaps next time I should take heed of the paper specials decorating the walls. I'm just never sure if they're specials because they need to move product or actually "special."

This is probably a weird thing to rave about, but bear with me. I went to the Sachiko to have a quick bite, and wound up with a spicy tuna roll and, after some debate, the seaweed salad. The spicy tuna roll was quite tasty, but it was the side dish that was the star of the show. You know how in Pokemon, each animal starts off looking kind of bland and unimpressive, but eventually bulks up into a towering beast studded with spikes and cannons? Well, Sachiko's seaweed salad is the legendary evolution of the stuff served at other sushi places. Instead of a tiny tray littered with green goo, you get a softball-sized bowl filled with glittering emerald seaweed. And chunks of cucumber. And sprouts! And fish eggs! And a freaking lemon! This salad's got it all, man. It makes the seaweed salad served at other restaurants look positively wimpy by comparison. My only beef is that the chef, although quite skilled at his work, was distracted and dismissive, almost to the point of rudeness. I've had friendlier service at other restaurants, I'll just say that. Nevertheless, the food is quite delicious, and the seaweed salad is a transcendent experience. After you've had it, everything else will look like soggy green strings in vinegar sauce.

Food is typically consistent and good. The only drawback (in my opinion) is the decor, the walls are absolutely plastered with hand written sheets of paper with all their "specials", I find this distracting and rather tacky.

My fiancé and I love sushi so we know a good place when we come across it. What a great find! I would recommend sitting at the sushi bar.

I'm really torn about this place. On one hand, I had a fantastic meal here and truly some of the best sushi I've found in Tucson. On the other hand, it was pricey as can be and the fact that this place offers no sushi specials, happy hours, etc. really makes me wonder how they can expect to compete. I came in on a lunch break and ordered a vegas roll, spicy tuna, and spicy eel rolls. They wanted me to use the paper and pencil provided, but two of these rolls were not on it. The waitress, when she took my order, just wrote them at the bottom. Strange that they wouldn't have updated those things. Ok, no big deal. The place has a nice ambiance, somehow feeling more authentic than other sushi places--like this might actually be what a sushi place in Japan might look like. All the people who work here are Japanese and so were many of the patrons...I felt in good hands. My sushi came and it was magnificent. Really fresh fish, great flavors. Even the wasabi seemed to have a better texture than at other places. All was well. Then the bill came. I had 3 rolls and an Iced Tea. After tax, I paid almost $30. Eeeesh. That's a bit much. I paid, and before walking out asked one of the waitresses if they ever have any specials or happy hour, she pointed me to the lunch specials. Not exactly what I meant. The lunch specials are not sushi-focused. The best you get is like chicken teriyaki AND a california roll. Not what I'm coming to a sushi place for. I feel like every other sushi place has some sort of gimmick that they offer be it all-you-can-eat or half off rolls during X hours, etc. Not this place. I kinda get why, too. The sushi is exceptional. I get it. But for that price, Id probably rather go somewhere else most nights. It didnt seem to be hurting their business, the place was not crowded, but it was busy during weeknight dinner hours. I think I'm just going to have to be REALLY craving sushi before I spend my money like that again.

Fresh fish and delicious tempura ice cream! I also feel the service was prompt considering how busy they were.

Love this place. Tried the other Sachiko and hated it. Ramen is awesome, everything is pretty consistent with what I had in Japan. They have real curry rice. The hamachi was perfect. Prompt service and the waitresses are funny. Bottom line, my kids love it and they hate everything. Thumbs up.

Haven't been in about 5 years, for no good reason, as I had never had a bad experience here. My dining companion & I kept it basic last night: Sushi, mostly Nigiri and the obligatory miso and edamame. Two rolls, Spicy Tuna & Rainbow, doubled up on Tuna & Yellowtail Nigiri, and we also tried off-menu "specials" posted outside the door & around the restaurant: Wild Sockeye Salmon (which had a velvety texture that was quite appealing), Spanish Mackerel (mint was a nice touch to cut through the natural oiliness) and Wild Red Snapper (didn't notice much of a difference with the standard red snapper that was on the Rainbow Roll, but good nevertheless). All of it was appetizing to the eye, fresh and balanced in flavor & texture. With a beer, plus tax & tip, it was ~$21/person - which I don't find too pricey, I believe I received good value - and I left satisfied without being overly full. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. The one quibble is that I think they need to streamline their menu presentation, and print the list of current "specials" into a menu insert, instead of on white sheets of paper plastered in various places in the restaurant. For me, Sachiko is the benchmark for Tucson sushi, just as it has been for decades now. Already looking forward to my next visit.

I think we lucked out moving a quarter of a mile down the road from Sachiko Sushi. To be honest if it weren't so close we probably never would have tried it but I'm glad we did. Apparently it's super popular too seeing as there a tons of reviews on Yelp and every time we've gone there it's been packed. Good sign for sure but the food does usually take a while. I think their sushi is good, the prices are standard and they always have lots of fresh specials which I think is great. They have a large menu anyways, when you add in the specials you're bound to find something you'll like. I also enjoy their ramen - which does come with a 4 piece California roll. Not the best I've ever had but decent for Tucson and really the only option I've found on the east side. Miso soup comes for free with your order when you dine in as well. I've seen a bunch of people order the tempura so that is next up on my list of items to try. They are also great for take out which we've done a number of times and has only taken 15 minutes even when they're busy!

Sachiko is one of the cleanest little sushi spots around, and offers many fresh specials amateurly handwritten with a sharpie pen on notepaper and tacked up for perusal. The sushi chefs make lovely rolls, and the tuna and salmon were both top notch on our last visit. I like my edamame with rock salt, or some other creative touch, and found my beans a little mushy and plain. Sachiko is definitely no a no frills joint.

Man, I have been a loyal Sachiko Sushi customer for years, and I'm actually a little disappointed to have to update my review with fewer stars. Until recently, I had been coming every week for lunch and every once in a while for dinner. But my last few visits have been disappointing. Sachiko has a great set of lunch specials, fast service, and great prices. I always like having a place I can go where the staff seems happy to see me and remembers what I like to order. But here are the issues I've been having that caused me to drop the star rating since the last review: The fish has been bad. That's a big one. If not for my long-time love of this restaurant, I would give a much lower rating for this and would be seeking sushi elsewhere. On my last few visits, the fish has not been fresh or firm. Usually there's no food on Earth that compares to the buttery richness of a raw piece of salmon. But the salmon has been mushy and flavorless. The rolls have not been constructed very well. I see the same gentlemen working the sushi counter, but the quality has slipped considerably. On two recent visits, the rolls would not hold together at all and were very difficult to eat. Today one of the end pieces of my spicy tuna roll was pinched together so as to contain little or no spicy tuna. I waited and tried again, and waited, and tried again, hoping that they would improve before I couldn't stand it any more. But now I've reached the point where I have to find another place for my lunchtime sushi fix. Will I come back to Sachiko? Yes. But it's going to be a while before I'm ready to see if they've finally fixed these problems.

Ramen is very solid here. I got the sashimi special this time and it was a great choice. $30 for 20 thick fresh cuts, we had 5 different selections with 4pcs each. Highly recommend the sashimi here

    (4)
  • Tiffany K.

Omg! I got a boatload (literally) of sashimi. It was all super fresh and practically melted in my mouth. It was so creamy I closed my eyes with every bite. I don't even know how many times I talked about the good mouthfeel. I only have it a 4 because the walls are completely covered with "specials". It was very overwhelming. And that was on top of a super big menu.

Delightful experience today. Service was great. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The prices are good I don't mind the handwritten signs all over the restaurant, I think it's kitschy. My only complaint, my son ordered ramen and we were all finished eating by the time it arrived.

  • Leon P.

The sushi here was pretty good, the taste was amazing and probably among the best sushi you can have in Tucson. I lived in Japan, so I know what good sushi is supposed to taste like. They did not have any raw fish bowls, which was expected, but as far as the place in itself goes I would say is ok. I would not think of the service as the best one I've had and I think is definitely something they could improve. In essence, food was good, service, not so much

Omg. This place is great!! So friendly and nice great sense of humor. My sister has never tried sushi. I ordered a California roll with soy paper for her to try. The waitress heard that my sister didn't want sesame on her rice, so she made none of it was on the roll. Wow. Love that. We WILL be back!! Food was delicious.

  • Richa S.

I had the sashimi and tempura lunch special. The tempura is pretty good- i guess you cant really critique it other than i was kinda weirded out by the fried banana with the dipping sauce. it wasnt bad alone but just wasnted expecting a little sweet treat in between the sweet potato, carrot, and zucchini tempura. the miso soup is good but i do think that for the size and quality- its a bit pricey. id say this place isnt anything to rave nor complain about considering its a mom-pop type of sushi place. its just... meh!

Been coming here for year. Keep trying other sushi houses in town that are closer to home. They pale in comparison and make me want to return to Sachiko and never try another again. It's not in my neighborhood so it's a drive to get there. But it is well worth it. Grade A fish. Portions are good. Specials are adventurous. Service is good. I've tried them all and can attest that Sachiko is a Tucson favorite. The location by the airport is just as good and the fish is the freshest you can get in town.

  • Eleana H.

Eh sushi here is not so good. Fish quality and execution was poor . :( not my favorite place . Got a rainbow roll and it was terrible the fish was mushy tasting, the roll was rolled badly, and the rice was grainy ... Never again!

  • Brian H.

Good all around restaurant. I've tried alot of the menu but I can't say anything about dishes with shellfish. The sushi is alway prepared with care and is fresh. I come here frequently and its rare to see this place empty. Thats a good sign.

Sometimes just coming into town makes you want good sushi! This place delivers consistent quality and service. I was attended to as soon as I sat down. The staff is friendly. It was a Saturday evening and the place was busy. Must mean the food is good, right?! Well in my opinion is was marvelous!

This is now one of my favorite sushi places in Tucson. I'm originally from California so my sushi expectations are pretty high. The sushi here is excellent! My favorite is the salmon sashimi or sushi, anyway you eat it, it is absolutely the most melt in your mouth, buttery fresh salmon I've ever had. Their tempura is crisp and the vegetables are all fresh. Even the miso soup was better than I've had in a long time. The staff here are very friendly and even only after being there one time they seemed to recognize us when we came in the second time. Nice clean restaurant, nice atmosphere, and always busy - that's what you want in a sushi restaurant - keep it moving!

We, my family & I, have proudly stated that Sachiko is the best sushi in town but always to sit at the sushi bar. New Year's Eve was no exception. We got there around 6pm and sat at the sushi bar but unfortunately by the front door. Every time the door opened it sent a shockwave of ice, cold air over us. We asked if it were possible to sit further up and were told "yes." The owner was sitting up at the front , appeared to be completely in his cups and refused to free up the space for us as customers. In fact, he yelled at the waiter that he didn't care. We ended up being sat a the back bar where they store everything. It took quite some time to get service from there and if we hadn't partially ordered already we would've left. Frankly, we both felt sorry for the wait staff. After about 45 min. the owner finally gave up his place to allow other customers to be seated and left. Yay! The food was spectacular as always but the owner is a jerk.and really left a bad taste in our mouths.

I've been coming here for about 5 years, it's the only place I've found that has consistently good sushi at a good price. The lunch specials are great and the staff is very nice.

now that i know Chef Shun is at Sachiko, i'm gonna say it's the best in town. the variety they offer is unmatched. bluefin toro sashimi for $6.95 is unheard of. we got that, hamachi toro, spicy yellowtail roll, hamachi sashimi (which was some of the best i've ever had), and the bbq bluefin toro kama - which was out of this world. now, i'm a dedicated Chef Shun fan - i love the guy. he is the best around. i highly recommend sitting in front of him and letting HIM tell you what to get. after all, he is the expert. i thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the staff, and the atmosphere.

  • Amanda N.

Very nice Miso soup! Had the shrimp tempura roll and the cucumber salad. The cucumber salad is a great palette cleaner but I wish theirs had more of a flavor profile and more toasted sesame seeds. The shrimp tempura roll was extremely small, they only gave four pieces that were too big to put it my mouth. Also the avocado was brown and bruised. Not bad for Tucson and it's close to my house so I may return.

This place is the real deal. I have wanted to find a spot like this for years, but never found it in Chicago. Never thought I would find it here in Tucson the week after moving here! Really authentic, relaxed izakaya-style dining. Loved the specials written on paper and plastered on the walls. Sushi was super fresh and loved my ice cold Sapporo in the big bottle. I will be back, and frequently!

First time visit to grab a quick lunch and it was GOOD! Service was awesome from when we walked in to laughing with the chefs when we walked out. Specials all over the place from the some regular items one can get anywhere to some pretty adventurous things! We'll be sure to return!

The service here is great, they are such nice and friendly people. The price is extremely reasonable for sushi and they have a variety of other foods for the wussy who doesn't eat sushi. I still have my favorite sushi elsewhere but I'd come back and try something else.

Ok sushi for tucson. The menu is quite chaotic with handwritten menu items ALL over the walls. It could use a serious makeover. If you can get past this chaos, the sushi is pretty decent. Good sashimi, good rolls, good miso, good prices. Overall better than average sushi for tucson. The service is always excellent.

I had a really great experience here. I arrived 30 minutes before they closed. We were seated, the server let us know that they would be closing soon, and politely asked us what we would like to drink. We put our sushi order and within 5 minutes we had our rolls. The spicy yellow tail was the best I've had in Tucson. Very fresh and high quality. The Mexican roll was also very good. As we were eating, our server stopped by and asked us to take our time eating- (there was no rush, because the the staff would also be eating dinner) but if we could pay early so they could close the till. We happily paid, and enjoyed our meal. I really appreciated that they were open and so friendly. Our server was so sweet and smiley, I was surprised to see others have had a poor experience. The service here was awesome. We will definitely eat here again.

We love this place! Friendly staff, great selection, and awesome sushi. I won't lie, I think we went like three or four times in one week once. Granted, we are sushi addicts, but we have yet to have a bad experience. Highly recommend this place!

This place is one of the few sushi places I dine at since my love doesn't eat sushi. The restaurant is clean but all the handwritten signs with items from the menu drive me crazy! lol. I'm an amateur sushi eater and usually order a tempura shrimp bento box and maybe a vegas roll.

  • Clara B.

Who doesnt love sushi?! The portion sizes are good, the fish is always fresh, they have a large variety/selection of menu items at reasonable prices. I just wish they provided descriptions of their sushi rolls on their website to help me make an educated choice on the rolls. Anytime I order sushi here, I always get it within 10-20 minutes. And the staff is always friendly. Go here for your fish fix and dose of omega 3!

I really like Sachiko Sushi. While I rate sushi in Arizona on a different scale than in other places like LA and NY, I think Sachiko has some of the best sushi in Tucson. It is also very inexpensive for sushi, and the service is always ok. They always have specials, a nice cold sake list, and it's always pretty fresh. I almost always order the sashimi deluxe and I really like their spicy salmon roll. Sachiko Sushi is where you should go in Tucson if you want a good meal for a good value.

We've been here twice now and I tell you the service and food is excellent! Our server is very attentive esp towards my son. It also help that there's a server that walks around for the sole purpose of refilling your drink. My son always ordered teriyaki chicken everytime we go on a sushi place and this is by far the best we've tasted. Salmon toro is yummy and melts in your mouth. Prices are very reasonable too.

Love their spicy scallops absolutely the best in town! The servers are really sweet and efficient. The fish is always fresh and portions are decent, this is my go to when I have a craving for sushi just adore them. I would definitely recommend them as their prices are pretty nice for the quality of seafood they serve. Will be back fo sho!

One of my top favorite sushi bars in Tucson. The menu is extensive along with lots of specials posted around the dining area. As a sushi traditionalist, this sushi represents some of the freshest, mildest, sweet tasting sushi in town. Plenty of rolls to choose from. The staff works as a team. A couple special things about Sachiko, they offer rice paper for those looking to keep their sodium levels down and they offer brown sushi rice on request! Of course there is a full menu for those who don't want sushi, but if you are going to try it for the first time, Sachiko is a great place to go for it!

I love this place. Tonight we had the Lobster Salad, Oregon Roll, Tempura with banana, what? SO GOOD! Fabulous! Its causal and full with couples, families, singles at the sushi bar. Service was very good. They always have different and unique items on the menu.

This has become my preferred sushi restaurant in Tucson. The menu items are diverse and the commitment to quality, fresh sushi is high. It's the only place in town with outstanding blue fin toro. The service at the sushi bar has been outstanding in recent visits (hence the 5 star review). The atmosphere is simple and informal.

We had dinner here on Christmas Eve, and weren't disappointed. My wife had the fried oysters and we both had gyoza and miso soup (which is complimentary), and I had these fabulous jalapeno dungeness California rolls. The California rolls were definitely the best that I've had, with just a bit of spice. None of the places that we go to for Japanese food at home in southern California are even close to being as good as Sachiko. Usual good Japanese beer selection. Nice decor.

Still one of the best in town for a family style Japanese restaurant. Delicious sushi, really good udon, and old school donburis'.

This review got put on the "back burner" for a bit because WOW was I busy after I got home from Thanksgiving. But anyway, we were back in the Old Pueblo on Black Friday after visiting family and all that shopping left us hungry. Now normally when I'm in this part of town and I'm in the mood for sushi, it's a no-brainer and I head straight for Kazoku. But it was really close to their closing time for lunch so we needed a closer option. We had seen Sachiko before as we shop at the Trader Joe's in the same shopping center so we decided to give them a shot. Service: 4/5 No specific complaints about our service, and nothing really stood out. We were seated promptly, our order was taken quickly, and our water glasses were kept full. One sort of odd thing I did notice though was the "host" jumped behind the sushi bar on a couple of occasions to help fill sushi orders. Now perhaps this isn't strange at this restaurant at all and he is a fully trained sushi chef also, but I can't say I've ever seen something similar at any of the other sushi bars I have eaten at, and I've sampled a lot recently. Like I said, just a bit odd. Food: 4/5 While I would still not call myself an expert, I am becoming more and more familiar with sushi and Japanese cuisine in general. So I'd like to think I have a much more informed opinion than I did a year ago. Overall Sachiko prepares pretty good sushi, but I did have a couple of complaints. One of the cooked rolls we ordered (Arizona roll, I think it was called) just had way too much rice. You could barely get a piece all in your mouth at once, which is how sushi is supposed to be eaten as I understand it. The other thing that bugged me a bit is that they put scallions and lemon on their nigiri. Now again, I will confess I could be wrong here, but at every other sushi bar I have been to, nigiri was just simply the fish, rice, and a dab of wasabi. That's why I love it. It is simple and the fish really shines. I found these "extras" detracted from the fish and ended up scraping them off after I ate the first bite. Perhaps I'm being overly critical, and perhaps I still have more to learn about sushi preparation. Aside from those issues, the food itself was good. My wife was happy with her rolls and the preparation was definitely good. Overall Impressions: 4/5 Not much specific to add here, just another "solid" 4-star experience. The prices were in line with what I have come to expect for sushi. The selection of rolls and other items was good. The atmosphere was typical of what I have come to expect from sushi bars in Tucson. Honestly they all kind of look the same to a certain degree. So overall nothing really "stood out" about Sachiko, but it was a worthwhile experience. The only "downside" is they are so close to Kazoku I don't really see myself going back so long as Kazoku is available. :)

Consistently the best Sushi in Tucson. The location at the airport has the freshest fish in town. The location at Wilmot is spectacular. I love sushi and have tried nearly all the sushi houses in town. Trust me Sachiko will NEVER disappoint.

I have always had a great experience here. Food and service is great, and prices are fair especially considering how expensive sushi can be.

Most of the fish was the head and neck of what I ordered and they wouldn't take take this off the bill. They argued stating they were right and we were wrong to complain. While the atmosphere may have been festive, the owners were brittle and inflexible for customer service. The sushi crumbled apart upon starting to eat it, it just opened up and the contents spread out onto the plate.

Ok well i Truly want to be a regular and love this place but after the sheer disrespect i will not return. Myself my wife and my mom as well as our daughter chose to eat here and my mom cannot eat onions we explained that too the waitress and she acted as though "you'll eat what i make and like it" so she ordered and her order wasn't even remotely close . we explained she cannot eat this due to the onions and such. The waitress ( an older lady) argued for several minutes about what we had ordered and refused to fix it we spoke with two other waiters and they made the decision to correct the order. after the new food arrived My mom was elated she clean both plates dry. But sfter all this time myself and my wife had finished and she was eating alone so needless to say a very unpleasent visit and I've given this place to many second chances I will Stick to Takamatsu & Ichiban for my sushi and japanese style cuisine

I haven't been here for a long time and I think the places has new owners the quality of the food is bad don't try the crab puff. I decide to order one more roll towards the end of my meal and it took about 20 something minutes. I would suggest eating at the sushi bar, the board on the wall has a bigger selection then the menu given to you when you are seated at the table the menu is small and not worth it.

same plaza as trader joes! cant beat that! came with friends for dinner. i got the chirashi sushi...which came in a huge boat!!! very nice display. its basically sashimi (salmon, hamachi, tuna, shrimp) over rice. simple and easy! friends got una don, which came in a cute boxed bowl, and ramen. ramen comes with california roll. pretty decent japanese place. service was meh...but food was decent

I have been here multiple times, probably my favorite east side sushi joint. I always order the spanish mackerel - mackerel is not for everyone, but it is very fresh and well prepared here. I also enjoy the jalapeno/ blue crab roll, the Oregon roll, the spicy yellow tail and the yummy yummy roll. Keep an eye out for the specials (they have them posted all around the restaurant on hand written signs. The only non-sushi items we've ever ordered was the chicken fried rice and seafood udon. Both were good but all around pretty standard.

I've been here a handful of times and I can't pin point what it is I like about Sachiko. If I had to label it, I'd say it's average. I will say, the Miso soup is spectacular. I've heard from friends it might be a bit salty, but it was perfect for me. OH, this is what I LOVE about Sachiko. They don't charge you for miso soup and edamame. It is complimentary with any order. Thank goodness! I am from L.A. and sushi restaurants there don't charge either! It was a surprised when I saw both items on the menu with prices next to them. I guess I'm not in California anymore...... :( Haha. As far as sushi goes, my favorite all time roll is the Supreme or Ultimate Las Vegas roll. As far as nigiri, salmon is nice, fresh, and cold. For me, fresh, raw fish has to be eaten cold, and this is one of the few places where they serve it cold. There was a time where I tried the Rainbow Roll and I wasn't too happy with it. It was a typical California roll, however, the crab wasn't mashed up, it was just cut from the package, and the fresh fish on top weren't great either. I typically stick with the fried rolls and the nigiri. If you're not a sushi fan, their fried oysters are REALLY tasty. It doesn't taste like shell food at all. We usually get mayonnaise and sriacha hot sauce to make a sauce to dip it with. PERFECTION! Oh and their bowl of noodles are very flavorful too. I can't remember the names, but if you get the chance, definitely try them. Korean noodles are different from Japanese and Chinese noodles!

So I was told that this place was amazing. I compare every sushi place to my favorite (Happy Sushi in Novi, Michigan) and I have been to many places across the country from "strip mall" sushi to fancy fancy celeb's go here etc. I will say this place starts out & nice giving edamame & miso. I like the tuna roll and salmon nigiri. Not a fan of all the seeds they put on the outside. I think the california roll could really use some mayo or something to jazz it up. Really the cali roll sets the tone for the rest of the rolls. Very fresh sushi-this is not a fried roll paradise. This is for people who like fish/sushi.

Just had dinner at Sachiko with my wife and daughter. The fish is pretty fresh ( we are not in Tokyo and the ocean is not visible in Tucson:)). That said, it is a good as it gets here. There are always a number of specials at very low prices. We had yellowtail toro which was wonderful, and a lobster roll that we loved. The tuna toro and white tuna (albacore) were also excellent. The restaurant is a strip mall joint with a diner like interior. A small price to pay for first rate sushi and low prices.

We go here all the time & there is a reason why... The sushi is always fresh & the service is good. The portions are very large compared to the other "cagillion" sushi bars in Tucson. We have tried the menu options as well which were good, but generally we indulged in a the great rolls & sushi!

Ramen is a definite "no" at this location. I believe there are 2/3 varieties and ordered the miso ramen. Ugh. Why? I knew it was going to be a let down but I wasn't prepared for a soy sauce based soup with a crap load of blanched cabbage and other fixings in a bowl. I was surprised that the man next to me at the sushi bar ordered it also and seemed to enjoy his. Maybe because I'm a ramen snob... How can I not be when you've had the best Sapporo ramen in ramen-country? I thought it would serve as a comfort food so I could reminisce of Japan if only for a second... I was wrong. I didn't want to do any more reminiscing and I sure didn't want any more of their ramen. I felt bad because a) I hate wasting food and b) since it looked like I barely ate the ladies were insisting for me to take it (uh... No such thing as leftover ramen) and I politely declined awkwardly. I however did return! Sushi this time hence this isn't a 1-star review and I only thought it was fair to rate this place for what it is actually known for. Eh still mediocre but not as repulsive as the ramen. I ordered a specialty roll that had unagi and a spicy salmon roll. When the order came the spicy salmon came as a California roll. Hmmmm. But I really, really wanted the spicy salmon. So another lady came by to fix my dilemma. However, she almost didn't want to believe me that the order was in fact wrong. Lady, regardless, the customer is always right. So she yells across the floor to the waitress who actually took my order and confirms that I actually did order spicy salmon. She literally brings over a plate and picks the California roll off my wooden sushi plating. At the end I ate what I had ordered and it was good. Nothing to rave about. Just the service was confusing and a bit embarrassing. So good luck if you decide to try this place.

Unlike most other strip mall sushi joints, Sachiko Sushi is not Korean or Taiwanese owned. No, the people saying "irasshaimase!!" as you walk in are legitimate Nihonjins. I had a nice, well paced meal at the sushi bar. I chit-chatted with the sushi chef about some swimming technique called total immersion while he silently judged me by how brown my skin was. I also got to listen to some right wing, tea-party types talk about how the best way to win the war in Iraq and Afghanistan was to "bomb the A-rabs back to the Stone Ages, like they did to the Nips in WWII." Freakin' Tuscon. Yippee-kii-yay muthaphuckas.

Good food and fast! We ate there for lunch today and were very pleased. The restaurant provided some complimentary edamame and miso soup, which was nice. From reading some of the other reviews, they do not always provide these for free. I am sure it was because of the large order my wife and I made for sushi and not just some low cost lunch special. The only downer was the rolls seemed to not be wrapped very well and there were spots without rice stuck to the seaweed. Other than that, great sushi at better than average price!

I love sachiko, its a mellow sushi place that serves sushi and has a traditional dining experience. I usually go in the evening because I favor one of the sushi chefs that is younger. He is funny, and comes out of his shell when talking with you unlike chefs at other sushi places I have been to. Anyhow, I totally love the miso! But my favorite thing to get here is the super california! Amazing roll, its not on the menu so you have to ask for it. Next up the mussels are great for $4.95 you get 3 of them, done with the masago and roe. The chef even cuts the pieces so that you don't have to slurp that huge ass thing into your mouth. This is right in the parking lot with Trader Joes so before shopping hungry why not take the time to enjoy some good food!

I have walked past this joint twenty times over the years and finally went in....now I am mourning all those GREAT meals that I have missed! I walked into this eclectic asian eatery and felt immediately at home, I was so amused with all the various menu additions xeroxed-and-taped to the walls. The menu is wonderful....its on the scale of Cheesecake Factory for the sheer number of items. We had the soft shelled crab as an appetizer and it was better then potato chips dipped in crack. The miso soup was excellent and not too salty which is usually the case and the California Roll was well done. I was very impressed with the Spicy Seafood Udon and cannot wait to have some more. Great place great service counting the days until back in Tucson.

The food is ok, not great. However, the service is awful! We got the wrong appetizer and the waitress came over and told us this is what she ordered. She said to my husband "you said gyoza" (which is impossible because he would have never been able to get close to saying it!), and was a little confrontational. I'm pretty sure we paid for both appetizers in the end, even though she took the gyoza away (impossible to tell because they don't give an itemized bill!). Prices are expensive and not really worth it.

I'm new to the area and this is one of the first sushi places i decided to try. Now we go in every other week! I love the atmosphere and the selection. My husband and I usually sit at the bar and order from the chef. He's very nice. The sushi is always flavorful and it tastes fresh. And I was really surprised to see that they had abalone sashimi! This review is making me so hungry i might just stop in for dinner...

  • Tina P.

Well, I suppose I should have known better than to expect fresh, good sushi at a restaurant in the middle of a desert. I'm not from the area, so I don't have any other sushi experience to compare this to. However, the food here is just so so. I ordered the mixed combination udon soup and a sashimi sampler. The udon soup was supposed to come with vegetables, chicken, a poached egg, and seafood. The vegetables turned out to be green onion. The broth did not have much taste. However it is a nice sized portion. The sashimi included salmon, tuna, and white tuna. All tasted just fine, but was not fantastic. Again, this may be because there's not a body of water nearby.... BUT the people here are as sweet as can be!!! And that's why I feel bad for giving this place such a low rating.

We ate her several times during the Feb Gem & Bead Shows. I would say the food is fresh and good. However, I would agree with the service is abit questionable. We normally get free edamame beans. We did not receive any so i asked for them. Later we got our bill and they charged us for this. We were told by the older lady that this is given only when they are busy. Other tables received this so we really felt deceived. I argued the point and they did not budge. Really poor service when you think of it.

I have been to Sachiko before on occasions. I found it to be average leaning on the not-recommended scale. However, I wanted to accumulate some more visits before a review. Well ... I've reached the point of no return. Something had to be said. At a recent dinner, my soft shell crab roll came out cold - meaning the ss crab was cooked before I ordered it and it tasted stringy because fried food is not supposed to sit around. Then the ginger served with my sushi was spoiled, yes spoiled. Come to think of it, it was at room temperature (this should be cool because it is supposed to be kept refrigerated). I complained to the server and was served another batch of "fresher" ginger - same thing. It tasted spoiled and at room temp. Whatever the reason, this made the rest of my dinner disgusting because I started to "psychologically" question my spicy tuna roll. If you are going to serve raw fish to the public, food safety should be paramount. Apparently, this is not what happened at Sachiko. I am not coming back.

I guess I'll give this place 3 stars due to its location and level of competition. But if they were to move this place near SF, CA, it would be a solid 2 stars (tops). I guess if you're here, you may as well order the sushi and nothing else. The bento boxes, noodles, and fried rice were all pretty bad.

Great sashimi and sushi. The fish was very fresh and it felt like a very authentic Japanese place. i lived in Japan for 3 yrs and I prefer the mom & pop sushi places over the "see & be seen" trendy spots. When my parents are in town, they love to come to this place. Mom gets gyoza, udon, tempura or sukiyaki and is always happy. Updated 11/26: went on a busy Friday night with friends. While the fish was still very fresh & tasty, the sushi was not put together very well & the service was slow. I'll still go back as I haven't had better sushi on that side of town, but I don't think they deserve that 5th star anymore.

I made my second lunch visit to the location on Wilmot, and have to say disappointed again. The Las Vegas roll we had, was very fishy, not a good sign. The rolls are cut very thin, kind of stingey. So both times I ate there, the rolls have been skimpy. The Udon soup was okay, nothing to rave about. It was a bit warm in there. I would say I'm not comfortable eating raw seafood in a place that is warm during Tucson's hot months. The service was slow, and they weren't even busy. About a quarter of the tables had customers. Makes one wonder why they weren't that busy on a weekday during lunch time; especially since they are in a convenient location on Wilmot & Speedway. I've frequented many Sushi places in town, and can say I will not be returning to this.

One of the original few places I frequented when I first began eating sushi years ago... yum yum. & look at me now, I'm obsessed!! Prices? Cheap! Quality? Great! Fresh and good cuts of fish are served. Decor? Well that could use some work ... we can't all be perfect though, & I'll take tacky cheap decor as long as the food is delish as it is. Although I have an unagi obsession the salmon and tuna are my favorites here. And the miso soup is some of the best I've tried. Fun fact?- This place is named after Tom (the owner's) daughter. Cute.

This was the second time I've been to Sachiko. The first time I went for lunch with a buddy and it was delicious but I never got the chance to return to this place again. This time was for my bf's bday. He's from Cali and many of the popular sushi places I've taken him to (mostly because of happy hour) has been "ok" for him. This time he asked me to take him to a place that I thought probably had some of the best sushi I've eaten in Tucson (and I've been to many). As we were driving to another sushi restaurant on speedway I remembered Sachiko and thought this place could not disappoint.... and it sure didn't! I love the cute decor. It was very Korean/Japanese theme but not as cluttered as most. The food was delish! We had the deep fried oysters (3 pieces) and they were so huge and yummy! Its was very fresh and not overcooked. That was a good choice in my part ;) The miso soup was so flavorful, I almost asked for seconds hehe. We had the the Arizona Roll (which I've never had before), Spicy King Crab Roll and Green Mussel. All was very good. There was only 4 pieces to each rolls but they were large and makes up for it. Thinking about it, I rather have bigger rolls cause you get bigger pieces of the filling (crab, shrimp, fish). We saved room for dessert but they only offered ice cream and it was too cold for that... plus, they were out of mochi :( So did my bf like it? YES!!! LOVE it! I'm so glad I took him here and I'm sure we will be returning to this place more often.

I/we like eating at Sachiko and have so for about 10 years. The service is usually pretty good, the sushi has always been prepared correctly, and the fish is fresh (you can usually tell by ordering the yellow-tail). What else do you want out of a sushi place? The Vegas roll and baked scallop roll were both excellent and leaving you wanting for more. The tuna, yellow-tail, and sea-bass were all firm, but soft, just the way it should be. The tempura is better than others with an awesome breading and was cooked perfectly. My cucumber salad was ok, but I think they forgot to put sesame seeds on it. The hot sake wasn't the best I have had, but good enough. It's pretty hard to give any sushi joint in Tucson 5 stars after you have been to Mahi in Seal Beach. Just sayin.

I ate shrimp tempura sushi here on Saturday night, at the sushi bar, where three people were preparing sushi for diners. The presentation of the food is excellent, and I love to see how the platters look as they go out to the customers. This restaurant has an extensive menu, and everything I've eaten there has been good. I often drop by before shopping at Trader Joe's, which is in the same shopping center. Besides the sushi, I ordered green tea ($2); and the sushi comes with miso soup and a warm hand towel with which to clean my hands before dining. No alcoholic beverage.

Really fresh fish. The oyster and uni shooter look pretty amazing although we didn't try. Right now they are having their anniversary sale. You can get a boat special about 10-12 pieces of sashimi/suhi for $12.95. That's plenty for 2 people. I haven't tried their entrees yet but they all look really good. Will go back.

i luv sachiko -- went with lindz, hovey, & nicole last week. i had the hamachi, hotategai, and the kamikaze roll. Mmm, so good. Their fish selections are alway so fresh compared to some of the other sushi bars in town. I love it, and recommend it. Has anyone tried the toro here...? ~lou

i came here all the time, and have for 3 years now. the sushi is always fresh and if i am lucky enough to get my favorite chef really nicely sized rolls. the super california is a must its a mouth full tho but whos complaining if you go try it its not on the menu though. i also like the albacore here the sauce they put on it is really good. another reason i love this place is because they are one of the only sushi places that still give you miso free and on top of that they give edamame and a warm cloth which on a cold day feels amazing.

Service was a little slow. There was only about 20 tables in the whole place. Once we got our food it was very good. Then it took forever to get the check with about ten people in the whole place. There were four servers all running all over the place looking busy for 10 people that were left in the place, don't know what they were so busy doing. Anyway, slow service on both ends of the meal but the food was excellent

Sachiko Sushi is probably the best sushi joint in Tucson (its slim pick'ns here, what can I say). You can get some expertly prepared food here that is always fresh -- both cooked and raw dishes. The portions are moderate and the prices are high only if you are comparing this establishment to the spam-on-rice places you find elsewhere in this town -- by any other standard, this place is about average. Like any busy restaurant, the service is fast without a lot of fluff so don't expect any exorbitant pampering. The only complaint I have about this establishment is that the write-in menu at the table is not the same as the regular menu, so you may have have to scribble in additional items at the bottom of the page -- really a non-issue in the scheme of things. Overall this is an excellent location for some good Japanese food.

ok, take your miso soup and leave. that is where this meal should've ended for me. miso soup wasn't spectacular in any way but at least it was comparable to other Japanese restaurants. the sushi rice was overly cooked and mushy. this made it hard for me to eat any of the sushi.

  • Tony P.

Over priced, small portions, slow service, and a very limited sushi selection (that for some reason isn't all on the sushi menu..hm...). Also, i'm not a huge fan of any restaurant that writes their specials with crayola marker and posts them on printer paper in every area of empty wall space throughout the restaurant... It really makes the place look cheap (in my opinion), although for all I know those signs change weekly due to what fresh fish is being shipped in (but i'm guessing not...). Ordered 3 rolls (Oregon, Caterpillar, Spicy Rock Shrimp). Waaay too much eel sauce on the first two rolls, and all rolls were smaller than expected, and not worth the price given the meh taste of each. Overall, pretty disappointing. There's definitely better sushi out there in Tucson than this..

I think the quality of this restaurant is 4 stars but the prices and the portion size gets three stars. I love sashimi but it is an expensive habit. If you are going to check out Sachiko I would advise you to order rolls to fill you up and the tiny orders of sashimi to savor the flavors. The staff here is also Japanese but the feel is not as traditional as Yamato. I liked it and I can walk there, so they will see me again but only when I have an extra 50 to spend on myself for a sushi dinner. By the way this spot is in the Trader Joe's parking lot.

I love Sachiko Sushi, for more than just the food. I'm close to the family, and their daughter Sachiko is like a little sister to me haha, I taught her to drive :-) I worked at the Valencia location all through college, my mom worked at the Wimot location for almost 12 yrs and my cousin was a sushi chef there for 6 (they opened their own sushi restaurant this year), but aside from that Sachiko has always had delicious, fresh fish, and Michio-san (like the owner Tomio-san, learned their trade in Japan), perfect cuts with just the right amout of rice, displayed nicely. The kitchen cooks are amazing as well, in my opinion...best tempura ever...I loved watching Chay cook it, so fluffy and golden, perfection every time! I've been to every sushi restaurant in Tucson with exception to Ginza (owned by another friend and former co-worker Jun-san...need to pay him a visit!) and Sachiko has always been tops.
