The food is great. You have to try the gourmet tacos... so good! Portions are good and food tastes very fresh. Excellent friendly staff everytime I go. Highly recommend. Perfect for a quick bite to eat with tasty high quality food!

I've eaten at Rubio's many times over the years and love the shrimp burrito! I wanted to review this location in particular because the manager and staff are fantastic. When I mentioned I have an allergy to avocado - the team wiped down all the prep counters, changed gloves, and switched out utensils. Its rare to see a restaurant go through that much to ensure their customers are taken care of and its deeply appreciated. This location is clean, comfortable and as always - serves great seafood Baja-style.

We had a great carryout meal from Rubio's last week. I was craving fish tacos and they're very close to us, so we thought, "Why not give them a try?". I had the original beer battered fish tacos upgraded to Especial. Basically that includes guacamole, cheese, cilantro and onions as well as the standard cabbage and white sauce. The tacos were so fresh and delicious. The beer batter was very light and although the fish was fried, the veggies and guacamole made it a light dish! Husband got the chopped salad with grilled Mahi Mahi. He enjoyed every bite, especially the tangy chipotle dressing. First daughter ordered basic chicken tacos and loved them. The chicken was seasoned to perfection. Second daughter got the kid's cheese quesadilla and they did a great job with something so simple. One of the best parts of our visit was Ray, the person who took our order and put it together. He thoughtfully brought us larger cups for the salsa bar as the ones provided are tiny! It was a great meal, all in all.

We were served by a manager. I love fish tacos. He made great recommendations based off of my personal taste. The salsa bar was really a nice touch. I loved the food! Very fresh, and flavorful. The man was nice, and very laid back. I will definitely be going back.

i like mexican food. and i like white ppl food. this place is the best of both worlds for me...the place is as WHITE as a mexican place can get. i know that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it is RIGHT by my tucson digs and so i went for the first time a few weeks ago and went back last night...i get the burrito especial (no beans) and it's pretty good, although it is "bland" if held against my mexican food standard. last time, they didn't give me my chips, so that is a tiny ding...but srsly...do i need chips?

I went in to Rubio's earlier today and ordered my food to go, and when I got home I had realized there was a mistake. Understandable, considering I don't just order a standard menu item, I get a very modified burrito. I wanted to just deal with it, but I didn't enjoy it very much. My initial service was delightful, and when I came back to let them know about the mistake, they were really awesome about correcting the situation. The manager on duty, Laura Gonzales, told me, "Never just 'deal with it,' if there is ever a mistake on anything, don't hesitate to bring it to our attention so we can make it right." I was only expecting a remade burrito, but she also refunded the cost of the item for my inconvenience, and was sincerely apologetic. I did not catch their names, but the other employees on duty were also very sweet and accommodating. I am not in that area of town very often, but I will definitely be giving them my business anytime I happen to be in the neighborhood. Thanks for a great experience!

Almost started crying after spending all that time reading their allergen binder, just to find out that all food is prepped and cooked on the same surfaces, so it's all cross-contaminated and it doesn't matter at all that they have a food allergen binder. It would be great if they didn't use the phrase "gluten free" on their online menu, since nothing there really is. I only went there because they claimed to have so many wheat-free items. I know it's not the employees' fault that they don't know anything about food allergies, but someone there should have even the slightest clue. The employees I talked to couldn't answer any of my questions definitively. Finally just walked away with no food, since I was holding up the line. My friend enjoyed his lobster taco. They have so many items that would be gluten-free if they'd make the effort at employee education and separation of cooking/food prep spaces-- it would be a huge draw to the gazillions of us who can't eat gluten. I'd be there all. the. time.

I came here yesterday for a quick bite to eat. This was my second time being here and I'm going to be honest I only do the street tacos-they are pretty good. The black beans on the other hand so salty that I couldn't eat them. I am not a fan of their salsa bar but did like the tacos for a quick lunch. Would not recommend for the night out this is a place to get a quick bite and that's about it.

It's not bad but it's nothing amazing. For the same price or a little more I'd rather go get authentic Mexican food. But it seems pretty fresh and is better than a lot of fast food.

Having grown up in southern california I became accustomed to the Mexican food standard, both traditional and the fast food joints. My favorite place for Mexican was Rubio's because it's not too Mexican, and I don't like Mexican food. I get fish taco's with no salsa and have had this same meal at countless Rubio's throughout san diego. I was brought to this Rubio's for the first time. I came expecting the same interior that I was used to from back at home, but I didn't get this. This location is smaller and doesn't have a giant fish tank. The tables, walls, menu and salsa counter, however, are similar. I ordered my two fish taco's (at 300 Calories each, wellsphere.com/local-res… ), got my drink and lime wedges, and waited. The fish taco's were slapped together in an indiscriminate manner. The corn tortilla's tasted almost stale and the white sauce was almost nonexistent. Was I disappointed? Yes. But I'll go back if someone else is paying.

I normally love Rubio's. Their shrimp tacos are some of the best I've ever had. But on a recent visit, I ordered my usual shrimp taco plate and the cashier asked me if I wanted bacon. Of course I did, I always order the tacos with the bacon. He failed to ask if I wanted flour or corn tortillas, and when our meals came, I had no bacon and they were on corn. I prefer the shrimp on flour tortillas. The customer service here is usually on par, but in this most recent visit--he was definitely not paying much attention.

Good food man. Too bad it takes a couple years to get it. I am also not a big fan of fish, but I do not need. This restaurant has a practically nonexistent vegetarian menu. I would not recommend it for anyone who is strictly vegetarian or vegan, and certainly not for anyone who is expecting traditional Mexican food.

In my top 5 semi-fast food places. Ever. Just one those spots that hits the spot, every time (thats what she said.) Here's my some-what 1/2 assed healthy/low carb alternative: - - Chopped Chicken Salad (calroies 577, fat (g) 30) ... damn, what makes this salad so fattening?! My favorite is the bean & cheese burrito (780 calories/37 grams of fat - no bueno) - - cup 4 water (ok, cheat a little and put some lemonade in there... come on, no one's watching...

I was impressed at the service. I wasn't sure what to order because I just found out I have an ulcer, so I asked the cashier. He said that I could order what sounded good, and he would tell me what was spicy so that he could leave it off. The tacos I ordered had a warm sauce, so he had it put on the side for me. It was mild enough for me to handle, but I'm glad he put forth the effort to accommodate my dietary issues. I wish I'd have gotten his name because I would have tried to get a hold of his manager and compliment him.

Rubio's was hosting a fundraiser for HOPE ANIMAL SHELTER and that's what took 5 us there for lunch. Kudos to Rubio's for caring and sharing for the homeless critters. On to the food: I was a bit disappointed in my lunch: I ordered the crispy shrimp burrito and while it was fully loaded with shrimp and avocado, I didn't care for the taste of the crispy shrimp. I won't order it again. A friend ordered the same thing but made it the Mango shrimp tacos and she said they were superb, flavorful, and crunchy. Someone else in our group had the fish tacos and said they weren't as crispy as the shrimp but after adding some roasted tomato salsa and cilantro, it was better tasting. Another friend had the Pablano's tacos and said they were very flavorful. The lunches came with chips, of course, and the salsa bar had the usual ingredients. I must say that I find La Salsa's salsas better tasting and their bar has more choices I would like to return sometime and try another dish. I'm not giving up on them but if I have to choose a Mexican Grill restaurant, La Salsa wins.

My favorite fast food chain. Can't find grilled or blackened fish tacos at any other fast food chain that I know of. Maybe a little pricier than other chain stores but worth the extra $. Try the Grand Canyon Amber Ale at this Tucson location. Great "local" brew. New Tilapia blackened tacos are awesome. Three good sized fillets on corn torts with a beer for twelve bucks. Wish they had Rubios in the Midwest...

This was a fly by the moment choice and was surprisingly a good choice. I was very cautious about this place for some reason. The blackened ono tacos are scrumptious! I also had the Veggie burrito, that was very tasty. The staff was super friendly and it was very clean location. I only have 2 complaints. The chips seem bland and the guacamole needed more salt. Other than that, all was great.

I ordered a veggie burrito and even after I asked the lady taking my order about what the ingredients were, I still got a surprise ingredient. I am a practicing vegan and I was told I was ordering a burrito with peppers, rice, beans, mushrooms, and guacamole. Surprise ingredient: cheese. I feel disgusted with myself right now and I'm pretty bummed out that they ruined the 'all veggie' streak I had going on. =( On the bright side, I finally worked up the courage to call them and let them know about the mistake and they were adamant about taking my name and number so they could hook me up with a free burrito in the future. Lesson learned in all this- its safer to just keep eating at home, people put cheese on everything! lol PS. I love their chipotle sauce!

This place really has great service for a sit down fast food. The gentleman that rang me up kept coming back to see if everything was to our liking. And yes, it was. Very much so. And normally, they don't have hot water, but he requested the kitchen staff to make some especially for us. Very sweet. I always get some type of fish tacos and have never been disappointed. The portions of salmon I receive are pretty generous, overlapping the taco. Yes! If I have a small appetite, their street tacos are the way to go. Carnitas or steak, I prefer carnitas. :-) With their choices of salsa, I think there's 3 + types? I am a pig when it comes to salsa, give me more, give me more. Good thing nobody has to bring the salsa to me, I go and get as much as I'd like. hehe. Oh yes, a tip. They don't have fish on their salad menu but it's a simple request and they'll do it with salmon or any of their hand battered fish. Hmm, maybe that can be a suggested addition to their menu.

I like this place. I like that it's almost exactly like Baja Fresh, but since Baja Fresh doesn't exist in Tucson, this place is where I go when I want it. Their salsa bar is pretty much the same, the menu's pretty close, and the dining room's very similar. Hell, they might be owned by the same people, I dunno.. The food's good, but my husband always gets the fish tacos and each time says, "remind me not to get these again." So, I hope that helps some of you, lol.

As the father of a two-year-old, my wife and I rarely experience the joy of ordering in line at the same time. I watched my son first, while my wife ordered. I ordered my meal (3x fish tacos) 5 minutes after, and waited 25 minutes longer before asking for my money back. By this time, my family was through eating and I wasn't interested in making them wait while I ate my food. The refund was given without complaint or hesitation, however, which is why I gave two stars rather than one. Everybody has a bad day once in a while - I'll be back, maybe.

My god, this place won the best fish taco award in the Weekly! I was having my tires balanced and rotated and noted one by the Firestone, decided to try it while I waited. Horrible, artificial lighting, coloring, and decor. I sensed what was to come, but had to see what all the fuss is about. Salsa is awful. The green had a viscosity that I usually only experience during allergy attacks. Heat level nonexistant, even in the "hot". This may be the worst salsa I've ever tasted. I've had better in a jar from the Piggly Wiggly in Alabama. Classic fish taco, $1.25 on Tuesdays. I guess you get what you pay for. Absolutely unremarkable, except that you can taste the preservatives in the tortilla. Also tried the grilled mahi taco. A great idea that fails miserably. The mahi was acceptable, but all the ingredients that make it a taco were pure fast food. Two stars only because of the mahi option and $1.25 Tuesdays. Better to save your change and drive elsewhere.

I used to bring food home from this restaurant every other day for my mom and sister. It's the same good ol' food and amazing dark chipotle salsa. Only problem I have of it, whether a good or bad one, is it's in the mall, which of course provides a noisy atmosphere, in turn becoming less relaxed. Nevertheless, good food.

My husband and I came during a busy lunch hour the other day. The food was good. What impressed me the most was the floor manager delivering the food. I believe her name was Alice. She did nothing but run around as fast as humanly possible to make sure everyone got their food. During this time she also bussed tables, filled forks, picked garbage off the ground and wiped the salsa center down. She was undoubtedly the most efficient worker I have ever seen. Give that girl a raise.

The employees at this location have made of me not only a regular, but a loyal,-must go visit those guys again- customer of this location. Not only do they always greet you with a smile, but they even remember you and your favorite items! They always prepare everything just as ordered and the store is always nice and clean!! Just thinking about Rubio's makes me want to go there! Amazing employees, even the manager is awesome!! Is like going to family, it just brings a smile to your face! Food is always delicious, everything is fresh and I have never left that place without feeling like I have to go back again soon!

Rubio's- because it's one of the few places that's not Sonoran Mexican food in Tucson. That's why it's ranked high for me. Otherwise, I'd give it a 3/5 just for cleanliness and good service. I find their tacos not worth the price and their burritos far more tasty.

Visited during a late afternoon on a weekday, so service was pretty quick. Cashier was nice, but a little too chatty about nothing relevant - she let me know how much she loves the day Wednesday. Fine, ok but just get going on my order, please. Got the California Chicken Bowl and shared some nachos. Nachos got cold really quickly, which sort of made them unappealing after two minutes. Guacamole was pretty good though. The chicken bowl was ok, but the over-sized bowl it was served in did the dish no favors. The chicken was charred black and had that "old, was cooked hours ago" look to it. The dish itself tasted like a disinterested high school student followed a corporate generated recipe card. The kitchen staff was...disinterested high school kids; all goofing off and talking about anything but work related business. The manager on duty was also young, but I listened to her interaction with an upset customer and she handled herself and the issue very professionally and with the customer's needs in mind. Rubio's will not be my first choice for Mexican again, but if starving, I'd give it another go.

I wouldn't normally go to Rubio's unless it's Fish Taco Tuesday. At a dollar plus change for each fish taco, well worth the trip, money, and calories. Don't think I'd pay full price for them but if it's Tuesday, I'm in! By the way, the chipotle salsa rocks! I recommend buying chips (they're not free) and hitting the salsa bar like there's no tomorrow.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

They don't have fish on their salad menu but it's a simple request and they'll do it with salmon or any of their hand battered fish. Hmm, maybe that can be a suggested addition to their menu.

I don't know how they accomplish the great flavor in the fish taco, but it's worth coming back for.

Soggy, not the fish taco recipe I remember from years ago, kids didn't like it, the cooks seemed to hate their job, and my stomach bothered me for two days afterward.

I've nerve been to Baja but I feel like I've been transported there every time I go to Rubio's. It's a lot cheaper too! My fav is the Healthy Mex fish Burrito.

This place is great. Very consistent freshness and flavor, I eat here almost every day because I work nearby. Salsa bar is always clean, staff is very friendly, food is always delicious. Could not ask for more. If you have never been here, or are considering going, do it! Try the fish taco!

Great place to eat! All of the tacos, burritos etc.. contain fresh ingredients. Also love the chipotle hot sauce.

delicious burritos. would have liked the fish tacos if they weren't breaded, but otherwise tasted great!
