I'm not sure how many times I passed this location of Pollo Feliz before stopping in. I really had little interest in doing so. I usually don't favor ordering chicken pieces, as a rule, at any venue (except Buffalo wings). Suddenly, one day the cloud of grill smoke above the building wafted under my nose and put me in some sort of hypnotic trance. I venture to say that many a victim has probably fallen prey this way. The Mexican-spiced, marinated, & grilled chicken thigh I had was so juicy and flavorful, that I have returned on many occasions since. I have only ever ordered take-out, so I cannot comment on eating inside the establishment itself. Most of the time, I simply order rice & beans. They are usually quite tasty and are two of my staple "comfort food" choices. I CAN comment on the extremely friendly staff and management I have encountered on each occasion, though. I greet them with an "Hola!" (one of the 20 or so Spanish words in my vocabulary), and they are all so very warm and welcoming. Reasonably inexpensive, this is a great little joint to get your "chix fix."

Is there a secret in making great chicken? If there is these guys have it. One does not come to this place for ambiance but for good grilled to perfection chicken. I only question the price. I get the exact same chicken in Phoenix for half the price and I have no idea why a chicken meal should cost $17.

My husband and I frequent this restaurant a couple times a month. They are always fast at getting our order out to us and the food is always piping hot! An added bonus we have never gotten sick from eating this food thus the major reason we keep going back. So tasty, fast and safe to eat!

Very good chicken, I can pass on the rest. But chicken was very flavorful. Quick and easy takeout.

Stopped in here one day on my lunch break to grab a quick lunch in the drive thru. It took so long to get my food I thought they were killing the chicken right then. Besides the wait the chicken was very flavorful. Next time I will go inside and see whats going on. Look for my update.

Pollo Feliz is a Mexican "pollo" chain that I believe originated in Sonora. It's a pretty standard chicken place if you've been to any other Mexican chicken joint. This place is a great deal, the chicken is juicy and delicious, the tortillas are fairly fresh and beans very savory. If you are starving or are trying to feed a lot of people this place can definitely fill you up for cheap. While it looks like any other fast food chain, the food here is many times better than KFC or Churches or other American chicken places. If you like chicken you are going love Pollo Feliz!

I love the food but the service is definitely lacking. Went through the drive-thru window today on the way to work, waiting nearly 15 minutes to get my order (it was busy, I'll give them that) and when I get to work and open the bag, there's no pico de gallo, napkins or even a fork to eat it with. And it was the manager who served me! If this is their idea of quality control, I'll go to Nico's next time.

Just driving by here with the windows down makes will make you drool. It's always fresh, the small portion chicken is usually enough. You get a free salad from the bar but beware it has jalapeños in it so after a few bites it gets spicy and hot. I think this is one of the best options for healthy, complete fast food meal under $10.

Chicken too salty for me, and also a little dry. The side dishes, baked potato and cole slaw, were OK. Salsa very hot. Corn tortilla OK. 2 1/2 rounded up to 3.

Just driving by here and smelling the chicken roasting on the grill makes you want to stop. The place is a little rundown but it's still fairly clean and the staff is very nice but the headline is that the chicken. You get a quarter of a chicken with a side of rice and as much salad is you want from the salad bar it's a really really good deal and the chicken is very very juicy. Just the right amount of spices and grilling make this place a good spot for lunch dinner or everything in between. Fast food that's actually good for you!

One of the great things about living in Arizona is the abundance of DIVERSE Mexican cuisine. When I lived in New York I had no idea there were regional specialities, or anything beyond the Chimichanga. Then I moved to Arizona and discovered the wonderful world of grilled chicken, and the different "Pollo" restaurants around town. Pollo Feliz is one of my favorites. The chicken has great flavor. It still does. But lately, it seems like they're shifting quantity for value. Typically, a 3-taco meal and soda would cost me around $6. This past weekend, I ambled into the drivethru, ordered my usual (and threw in a chicken tamale so i could try it) and was hit with an $11 bill. I opened the styrofoam container to find the typical shredded lettuce, and container of tomato broth, queso fresco amply scattered over the whole thing. But I couldn't see any tacos. Weird, right? I literally had to dig around inside the lettuce until i found the tacos. They are easily half the size of their predecessors. Still delicious. But basically the size of empanadas. *sad face* I was glad, in this case, that I did order the tamale because I was still hungry. The tamale was mediocre. The masa mixture was powdery and not very dense. The chicken was flavorless. No cheese, no olive...though I did find a chicken bone. *double sad face* I'm torn. I love the taste of the chicken...but is it enough to bring me back? It's like that ex-boyfriend that will never meet your neeeds but you keep going back because you "had something great once." I need to quit you Pollo Feliz. :(

I come here frequently for great chicken. The service is also great. It has always been quick except for today when they informed me that the fries I ordered were taking a bit long and I was given a free drink as I waited. Not only do we pick up family dinner but the chicken burrito are great for on the go.

I was watching Breaking Bad and once their fictional chicken restaurant started becoming a pivotal part of the show, I started craving Mexican fried chicken (even though I'm not sure if there really is such a thing). The closest thing I could find in Tucson was Pollo Feliz Mexican Grilled Chicken. I brought a book to read as I was in reading mood and headed into the Oracle location. They don't seem to have any fried chicken. Still, the chicken they do have is pretty good. It's hard to ignore the smell when driving by either of their Tucson locations. The prices are good. The sides are fresh. I could go for a better variety of sides and a better "salad bar" but my meal was fine nonetheless. Actually, I was sad that I got one of the smaller individual meals as I quickly devoured the delicious chicken and wished I bought more. I caved and got a chicken burrito. It was good, but the rice and beans, while filling, took away from the deliciousness of the chicken. Back to Breaking Bad... there were no signs of meth heads hanging around, which cannot be said for many businesses in Tucson. Oh, also, even though the place was pretty empty and clean, there was somebody going around the restaurant mopping and wiping tables over and over again, which reflected well on the restaurant. I'll be back.

I so love this place, I cant possibly go to Tucson without making a stop for this very flavorful, juicy succulent chicken - crispy skin and all. I should also mention that I enjoy their tortillas and salsa bar. My only complaint, wish that we had a location in the Phoenix area!

4 stars. Smoke bellows from the chimney indicating that chicken is being grilled over an open flame. At first sight, it seems like a sibling to the El Pollo Loco chain, but El Pollo Feliz is unique in its own right. From the outside, the quasi square building resembles any run-of-the-mill fast-food restaurant, with windows all around, parking along most of the perimeter, and a drive-thru lane. Once inside, you order over the counter, then go to your table (you seat yourself), also arranged much like a fast-food joint: soda fountain, salsa bar. Nothing to brag home about. Our order was taken courteously and accurately. While the locale is kid-friendly, there aren't long tables, so large parties would have to split tables. The restrooms were adequate. The chicken is what sets El Pollo Feliz apart from other fast-food sandwich places. The chicken, grilled over an open flame, is available in different portions. We ordered a whole chicken meal, which included our choice of corn or flour tortillas, as well as rice, beans, a house salad, and fresh salsa. Two roasted jalapeo peppers were also included. The chicken was flavorful and most pieces were moist. The breast piece was a bit on the dry side, as one might expect. The beans were wonderful, with a true "homemade" taste, not the pasty or gooey type. The salad (mostly iceberg lettuce) was crisp and fresh but felt like it could use another spin to get all the water out. (The good part is that we know it's been washed.) Desert-wise, there is a great flan available. The only drawback in our experience was the relatively long wait for the food. Verdict: Honest and tasty grub in a low-ley setting. A great value, if you're not in a hurry.

Really good grilled chicken. Never too dry which can happen with other places like el pollo loco. The sides are good too, I really like the beans. Portions are big and nothing is too expensive, I recommend getting a few pieces of chicken and putting your own burrito together as opposed to getting a burrito from them.

My Indo buddy and I would frequent this place all the time back in college. Decent food, large quantities, and cheap prices. It looks like a run of the mill fast food place, but it's pretty good, and not fast food. Service is quick, and the chicken was always fresh. Recommend this place.

Reminds me of Mexican cafeterias which is fitting because they have a Pollo Feliz in Nogales, Sonora! I ordered the 1/2 chicken plate, and wow, the chicken tasted like the best 3/4 lemon pepper rotisserie chicken and 1/4 fried chicken combined. Thin and crackly is the skin. The breast was pretty dry, saffron colored, and the vertebrae was attached to it. But the drumstick and wing were so delicious. The flour tortillas are authentic and there were a few sides - iceberg lettuce and tomato salad, salsa, pico de gallo, rice, and some great tasting pintos. Just over $7; I definitely will try the 1/4 chicken plate next time!

Very good chicken. I would not have tried this place except for positive Yelp reviews. I was looking for a decent dinner to bring back to my hotel, and hit the jackpot with this place! The flavorful seasoned and smoked chicken cooked perfectly. Not greasy-fried so that after dinner you don't regret the meal. Good choice for take out!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
