I love this place. The food is the number one draw. They have great recipes and the New Mexico spices are a welcome change. I really like Mexican food in general so I love living in Tucson. There are plenty of places to eat. In general, it's always good to mix things up once in a while. I would say Poco and Mom's is better than that. The food is great so I could eat here every day. Also the breakfast is a perfect opportunity to break away from the normal breakfast fast food burritos many of us have become accustomed to eating. Go with a group and eat family style that way you get a chance to sample several of their signature dishes. The salsa that goes with the chips also has a distinctive flavor. Enjoy!!!

Oh weird, I thought I reviewed this new location .... Well it is fantastic. Even better than their location on Kolb. My only critique is that they need to put one in on the West Side!!! haha I love the patio with fountain, the misters and the view. It is a great place for eating and meeting. The food is fantastic. I must confess I kind of got stuck on the Best of New Mexico dish. I love it. Such a nice mix of choices - beef taco, Chili Relleno and chicken enchilada with beans and rice. It is a nice feast and there is plenty to share if I have a lovely female companion blinking her dark eye lashes at me from across the table as we sip on ice cold homemade Jamiaca and Horchata ... oh yes. But I digress ..... hmmm where was I. Oh yes, I found what I like and keep ordering it over and over..... by that I mean each visit, ordering the same dish. One tip is to ask for some wonderful green Hatch chili salsa as soon as they offer up some chips and red salsa - great combo. For my tender tongue I would say they are Medium Heat. You may have guessed that I have a salsa fetish .... well maybe not a fetish ... let's just say I enjoy trying salsas. You may enjoy bathing your food in both wonderful red and green salsa to further stir your taste buds to heightened ecstasy. Okay, well it will just taste gooder .... haha. The wait staff is normally very good. If it is packed, they can get bogged down. There are a couple of gals that are quite a hoot. Sparky and fun while being efficient and playful. I did try one desert when I there were a couple of people to share it. It was yummy to the max. I did try a Jalapeno margarita once ... too hot for my whimpy palate. It sure looked fantastic. Enjoy, it is exceptional food.

Poco & Mom's new location is in a very attractive East-side building with a well-appointed patio and the same incredible food they are known for. But while the food is 5-star, the rest of my experience was at best worth only 2. I averaged that out to a 3-star experience. When we arrived shortly after 1pm for lunch, my co-workers and I stood in the outdoor hallway, in front of several "Please wait to be seated" signs. So wait we did, for five minutes, with no indication that anybody was coming to seat us. Through the glass door, we could see a waiter and bartender, and they could see us. Eventually the bartender came outside, brushed past us, and hurried out to the parking lot. We thought she was coming out to say "Someone will be with you in a minute," but she didn't. When the hostess did appear, she told us it would be about 20 minutes for a table for 4. When I suggested that was too long to wait on our lunch break, she offered us a semi-shaded patio seat immediately. I could see from the patio that there was an empty four-person table indoors. She immediately sat the two-person party that was in line behind us at that table. The patio was gorgeous, and the shade would have been plenty if we had been there less than an hour. Eventually the sun did overtake us, but not until after the time when we should have been back at work. However, both when we were in line at the hostess's stand, and when we were at our table, there was a recurring smell of cigarette smoke. At the patio, I could see the source: employees smoking too close. Management takes no time to ensure that employees are smoking the legally-mandated distance from the building entrance, and this soured the experience. We were given chips and salsa immediately, and then refills on those after about 30 minutes. The salsa was the perfect blend of fresh, hot, and delicious. It's easily one of the best restaurant salsa in town. But the food was extremely slow to arrive, and whlie we waited, we were treated to constant harassment by several bees. One friend eventually abandoned his soda because the bees would not leave it alone. Between the bees and the cigarette smoke, I would not sit on the patio again. I also wouldn't come back here for lunch. It seems like a nice place for a lazy weekend brunch, or perhaps for dinner. But the service is far too slow for a lunch hour, and we were late getting back to work. The food was amazing, but that doesn't matter if you don't have time to eat it.

Food is fabulous, as is service. My fave Mexican style is New Mexican, and this rivals anything I have ever had in Taos or Santa Fe. The red chili is the best! Love their patio too. Be prepared to wait for a table if you go during the rush, but it is worth it.

This place is always amazing. Salsa is tasty and whatever I order always turns out great. I really like the carne asada tacos. Pretty friendly service as well. The outside patio is nice.

The green hatch chili sauce is the best in town and super addictive. (They sell it in jars if you can't get enough) the cantina has a lot more seating compared to the original location on Kolb and also serves alcohol. The portions are big here so come hungry. I always get the chicken enchiladas. Good stuff!

This place is very cool, looks just like your at a Santa Fe restaurant, or Taos NM. The service was great, the bartender awesome, the FOOD, outstanding. I ordered the Santa Fe plate, with green and red chile with beans and a tortilla, you had and option of pork in red sauce or machaca, I had the pork. The food came, eggs, sauce beans all beautiful , but on top was what I guessed was the pork, it was cubed. Now, the flavor was fine, the pork, but I'm not a fan of anything being cube cut, was not happy. The food was awesome, but it could have been over the top if they just put a chunk of pork on top, rather than some little chunks of pork. Folks, please don't make food look like alpo. Would have given it a 5 star if the pork had looked like pork, on-top of that, it tends to dry out the meat when cut in such small pieces, please change that, and I think it will be perfect. Lastly, the green chile is sold in jars, great stuff from Hatch NM, but they make it there. I loved both the green and the red, so I proceeded to buy both, they had to give me what I thought was the red in a styrofoam cup, when I got it home, it was salsa, not red chile. I did not want salsa for my chips, I wanted their red chile sauce. You have to go and eat here, I have been to NM many times, this place is just as good, if not better than some in Taos NM. Best thing, you can get breakfast, Southwest, NM goodness, all day...., go try it.

Ok, wanted some good Mexican food, with a place I had never been before, and looked over all the reviews of all the mexican places. I absolutely love New Mexican cuisine. I can get Sonoran mexican any day of the week from almost anywhere. But I wanted something different, so, I chose this one. For the most part, I was NOT dissapointed. I had my favorite Green chili Cheese Enchilada plate, and it was EXTREMELY good. My wife had a taco salad with Machaca (her favorite). The service was EXCELLENT. I usually do a 15% tip, for average service, this rated 20%. The waitress kept watch and filled my empty glass promptly without my asking. Before the meal even came out we got our complementary chips and salsa, and after a few minutes, she noticed that we were getting low, so she just came with some more -- wow! The only downside that we had is that the refried beans weren't the best. They were pureed. We both like a little chunkiness to our beans -- you know what we mean. But don't let that deter you from coming here, the food was just EXCELLENT. You must try this place.

It is definitely good New Mexican food, but overall I thought it was just okay. When we were there it seemed like the AC was out because they had fans in the dining area and it was super humid. I had a margarita and it was just okay. The food we had was good, but I don't know if it would be my go to place. Definitely go here for the New Mexico vibe, food and chilis if you are in the area.

This place is a delight! My husband brought me into the original one for the first time, and I love it, so I was a little tentative about going to the new one, lest it be a shadow of the original's splendor. My worries were put to rest. Between the amazing, flavorful food and the awesome service, this is quickly becoming my new favorite restaurant. We have been here a few times, and each time has been awesome. I went in and got the Silver City....Silver Dollar? Silver something. It's delicious! I will say, day-um, that green chili is super hot! For me. I'm a wimp. My husband really loves it, and I will say it's amazingly flavorful, but it is not for the faint of heart or taste buds. I wasn't SUPER hungry last time we went, so I got a quesadilla with green chilies. It comes with beans and rice, and we ate outside on their patio, which was very nice. The wind caught the water in the fountain so it was kind of like a mister system. Anyway, they have really, really good beans. They are perfect and delicious and amazing. Second best in the city as far as I'm concerned. I did find a fly in my iced tea, but hey, I was eating outside...it's to be expected. The waiter offered to bring out another, but we were already paying so I just drank my husband's. I would really recommend them for anyone looking for an awesome breakfast or lunch. I'm not sure of they are open for dinner, but if they are, you should go here for that, too!

So we are HUGE fans and frequent patrons of the original Poco's. We checked the new location out after an overnight stay at Loew's. I will start by saying we will ultimately always go with the original location, hands down. While the location is really nice and SO much bigger with a bar and a nice big outdoor patio... we were not impressed, even though we wanted to be so badly. The food - same great menu items plus some. The food tasted great and I love that I can order my favorites at both locations. The service - not so good. I am not sure if it was the kitchen or the server we had or a combination of both. Granted we were there on a late Sunday morning and it was busy. BUT the server was not the usual "let me make you feel like you are family" type server that Poco's is known for. It was this young gal who seemed uber annoyed that there were kids in the restaurant shrieking from time to time (who cares, it is loud regardless). What was most annoying to me was that it took 55 minutes for our food to be set down in front of us from the time we ordered... YES and I am not over exaggerating. I get that this could have been a kitchen issue but the server never once even acknowledged it to us or had the courtesy to give us an update. Plus others around us who ordered after were eating away, and those who ordered at other tables right before us had eaten and gone. It was strange. We were only a table of four too. I will stick with the original location -- even when they are slammed and there is a line out the door they always deliver five star service and food.

This place offers some great Mexican food with New Mexican salsa. Great breakfast place . You should check out the dream team Tony an Trisha at the bar. They are there every Weekend working the bar.

Really good New Mexican food. The location is great. The waitresses are very friendly and fast. I actually don't love big breakfasts so I usually get coffee and a snack here but whoever I go with always enjoys their food. My only con is that the fruit I order there is sometimes carbonated and sour from being old. Otherwise it's a good place!

Best tasting and affordable Authentic Mexican food in Tucson!! Everything from chips and salsa( although Guadalajara table side salsa still gets my vote!) and tasty margaritas but the main course food far beats any other Mexican restaurant in my opinion( over molinas midway and la parilla) especially the combination plate-certainly enough for 2 if u indulge in the fried ice cream to top off the evening! Give it a try-won't be disappointed and service scores just as high especially later when not so croweded. Hv been here half a dozen times with small and larger parties and never a bad experience.

All my dreams are coming true now that I can have a Dos Equis with my delicious New Mexican food! Proud to see Poco and Mom's doing so well, too! I ordered my favorite, the stuffed sopapilla with shredded beef and green chile sauce on the side. Spot on as always. Unfortunately the servers from the original can't be in two places at once, but the staff here was great too. Will definitely be back!

What is most likely due to customer demand, a second Poco & Mom's is serving Tucson. It is also on Tucson's East side, but closer to those in the Foothills and the Tanque Verde area. I found the service here much better than the original location. I'm not saying the first location is bad (service was pretty good), but the servers here had more of a welcoming attitude. The interior and architectural design is unique. I can see why it can be a little tricky finding where the front entrance is located. When you walk in at the front entrance (which is right across from the GTX Training), you are right at the Catina. You will be asked if you here just to dine, and then they'll ask if that's the section you'd like to be seat. You go through a narrow hallway into the main dining section. It is very open and spacious, and there is patio seating. The lone bathroom is in the middle of this hallway, and even though it just serves one person, you can watch the Chefs make food through the window...very cool! Additional bathrooms are upstairs where a local newspaper has their office. The food is very comparable to their original location and was delicious! I enjoy the fact that they use shredded chicken for their chicken burritos. The salsa for the chips goes very well with it! The bean and cheese burrito was very tasty but wished the cheese was melted when served. Poco & Mom's is another great hole-in-the-gem in the Tucson area, and now has two locations that dish out great food!

YUM and YUM. Slightly less great than Cafe Poca Cosa, but a fine mexican meal. There was loads of parking, we went on a Saturday around 11am. We each had a prickly pear margarita, and that might be my only complaint - it was $8 and large but weak, and not the deep purple color of prickly pear (really the best part). But the gal who made it was nice and the people at the bar were friendly. The chips and salsa were excellent- the thin crispy chips (still warm) and a perfectly balanced red salsa with just the right kick of heat. There was a wait even though the back dining room was 1/2 empty- I think they are listening to their Yelp reviews that said service was lacking - so they are only seating what they can handle serving well. We were seated in the bar area after about a 10 minute wait - talked to the waiter about what to order - he recommended the sour cream chili sauce- and the enchiladas with eggs caught my eye, so I got that with the pork, beans, rice & salad. My man (recently my fiancé, which is crazy!) loves a chile relleno and the chile rellleno breakfast burrito looks great in the photos. Looking back I wish we had ordered him just the chile rellenos straight up. He got it "christmas Style" - meaning red sauce on one side, green on the other. He enjoyed it, but my meal was better. ...and like Elaine Benice on Seinfeld - I don't want to "yada yada over the best part" so I must mention the sopapillas with sugar and honey...I was on the fence since I knew we had ordered too much food already, but the plates were only about $9/piece so I figured I could treat myself to $3 worth of deep fried heaven. I probably would have been happy with them alone, wooo-whee...they sure were tasty! . We thought the service was excellent, if that part of these Yelp review is holding you back, don't let it, I think they are working it out.

Service is HORRIBLE. I strongly recommend going to the other Poco and Moms on Kolb and 22nd. It's like completely opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to service. I was trying to get a refill for water for a long time. After around 5 minutes trying to find our waiter, I got his attention; he points his finger up telling me he'll come back when he's free. After waiting again, he returns to discover all our water glasses on the table were empty. After going to get the water pitcher to start filling our glasses, he spills water on my food (water dripping from bottom of the pitcher). He just ignores it without an apology and rushes away. Bad experience here and will not return.

Was looking forward to trying P&M's Cantina since it's so close to our house. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, but like others here, felt like something just didn't hit the mark. Service was just meh, and the atmosphere average. I really liked the Chile Rellenos and the Machaca, so we will definitely give it another go. Noticed they do breakfast, so maybe that's the time to be there...

I have to say that I had high hopes for this restaurant after reading the other reviews, especially from its original location on Kolb. However, our first experience to Poco and Moms may have been our last as well. We arrived at 1:00 with several people already waiting, which for any restaurant is a good sign of quality food and service... At least you'd think. So we walked inside and down the hall to what we presumed was a hostess podium but apparently not because we were kindly redirected back down the hall where we entered to another desk to have a another hostess put our names down. We waited only a minute or so before a server holding a tray directed us to write down our own names because she was too busy at the moment. I did just that and our party waited outside. We decided to take a look at the patio area and were surprised to see so many open tables, tables however that hadn't yet been bussed! 20 minutes pass before the manger calls my name and says our table is being cleaned. 10 more minutes pass before I decide to check the status of our table so the hostess goes to retrieve the manager for us. We are again approached by the same manager who finally says our table is ready. So 30 minutes to wait to be seated is not the worst scenario during a lunch "rush," however, another 30 minutes just to receive chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant was rather a let down. The server was kind but seemed very overwhelmed and forgetful, hence the long wait for chip service. We all finally got our orders in and after about another 30 minutes we received our food. Some of which seemed to be sitting under the heat lamp to long as evident by the wilted garnish of lettuce on the side. The food in general, although good was not worth the long wait and slow service. The chimichanga with enchilada sauce was fine, the enchilada sauce seemed too dry and slightly burnt tasting but the cane asada inside was good. The chicken taco and machaca taco were acceptable, not spectacular in any way. The chile rellenos were overly coated in batter and tasted a bit of raw flour. The green chile on top was delicious however. The rice and bean sides were also too dry for my liking. Again, possibly from sitting under the heat lamp for too long. Overall, I was left feeling underwhelmed especially for as long as it took us to enter and leave the restaurant, two hours to be exact! I don't believe I'll be returning to this location but I suppose at least now I can say I've been.

We have been in search of a good mexican place on the eastside since we recently moved to this side of town. Tonight, we tried poco and moms for dinner and the wait was no longer than quoted but a little awkward as it is in an outside corridor. Once seated in the bar area, we felt instantly welcomed and comfortable. as soon as we sat down, a cheerful server brought us a heaping basket of fresh chips and salsa with the right amount of heat. We had the New Mexico sampler and the red chile pork burro enchilada style with green (hot) sauce. My wife and i were both very impressed with the flavor and quality of each dish. The green and red chiles were smokey with a slow building heat that never gets TOO hot. Having lived in Tucson for most of our lives we have eaten some mexican food and we both felt that this place is in the top 3 best in the category. before posting this review I was shocked to read so many bad reviews. as this was our first time, I couldn't speak to the consistency but i would say honestly I was thoroughly impressed and will be back often! way to go poco and moms!

I was out for dinner with the family and really hoping to get some high quality Mexican food. Sadly our whole family was disappointed, even though this place had really good reviews. We waited outside in the cold for 20-30 minutes huddled under a poorly functioning heater to be ushered into an adjoining patio room with Costco brand plastic folding chairs and tables. This room was also freezing. We waited for our authentic food and 4 out of 5 of our party were let down. My nachos were average, lacking imagination. My mother in laws tamales were decent. My father In laws taco plate appeared to have store bought taco shells. Strangely my wife's chicken salad with salsa ranch dressing (which was ordered off the American menu) was the only tasty item. The service was also poor. I know this location is new but I feel like the management could have done more with staff training and ambiance. I hope this place gets better but I probably will not be back.

I think I have a new favorite Mexican restaurant! The food was exceptional even for a vegetarian. Our waiter Brandon was careful to make sure that I wasn't receiving any meat in any of my dishes. Plus the outdoor patio in back was peaceful and pleasant. Lots of shady trees and a big waterfall.

Now if you mention Poco & Mom's I have to ask you...which one? Poco &Mom's is no longer a tiny place on 22nd no more. If you a fan before (I wasn't too crazy about the place when I 1st visit but it just getting better every time). you know it's a very busy place, now with the same good food, good service, with much better seating... ah the less of the wait time. Always great to see a local business growing, on a selfish note, a nice addition closer to my house.

Love that the fun waitstaff have all come to the new location. Food is just as good as ever. i tried their green tamales and they were a little drier than I like, but I ordered them enchilada style with the sour cream/green chili sauce, so they were redeemed - that sauce can save any dish!! both of my friends got their breakfast burritos (Enchilada style - of course!) and they looked amazing! They said they had just the perfect amount of churizo in them. There was a bit of a wait and it was FREEZING outside. The hostess came out and offered everyone waiting a cup of hot chocolate. which was such amazing customer service!! I was truly impressed. She gets 5 stars!!

This place was great. I was in Tucson traveling for work and wanted a quick meal from a local place. Poco and Moms Cantina was perfect. The front room, the only that I saw, is small but has a good vibe and a small bar worked well for me as a solo diner, and I imagine would work great for a few friends looking for drinks and maybe some food. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so Zeno, manning the bar, told me he would take care of it. I soon was served with amazing New Mexican style green chile enchiladas with red chile pork. The enchiladas were out of this world and the pork was as tender and tasty as I can recall having. Zeno recommended finishing off with a sopapilla filled with honey which perfectly finished the meal. I don't usually review restaurants, but this place certainly deserved it. I look forward to coming back to Tucson if only to return to this wonderful establishment.

Aside from the lack of air conditioning, we had a good experience tonight at this restaurant. The food was pretty good. The service was fast, and the staff came by and kept refilling water. I ordered carne asada tacos, no beans, double rice. I'll be back if the air conditioning is back on.

I was always a HUGE fan of the food at the original restaurant and am so pleased to see the new location has added booze and a quaint ambiance to the already great menu. Best (hot!) green chili sauce in Tucson -buy a jar to take home. And eat outside on the patio!

I have been to the location on Tanque Verde on three separate occasions in the past 3 months. I have limited experience on the menu because I have only ever ordered one item each time, the Green Hatch Chile Enchiladas with Pork. It is served with two eggs to order on top. It was recommended by the bartender as "an experience not to be missed" This dude wasn't kidding! It is one of the best Mexican dishes I have ever had. I travel all over Arizona for work and this dish is worth the trip. All three trips have been met with excellent food and service. The food (at least what I have orderd) is above average. I'm going back tonight!

On a strict diet, but found their chicken salad a reasonable option. I had mine without cheese and dressing but the chicken was an ample serving and very tasty. Absolutely love the food here.

It's nice to have a new Mexican restaurant open up on the Eastside since Guadalajara Grill burned down. Our overall experience was pretty good. Service was slow, but I don't necessarily judge a restaurant's service from one visit and one server. I wasn't a huge fan of the RC soda products and that they charged $2.29 for a soda with only one refill. The chips were just right. Light and crispy. The salsa was flavorful and on the spicier side of medium heat. I had the hatch green chile flat enchiladas with shredded chicken, cheese, onions and spices are layered between three corn tortillas. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely have a return visit.

Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but I'm very disappointed. As a New Mexican, we pride ourselves on our food, our green and red Hatch chili. They shouldn't lie about their food being New Mexican, because it will never come close.

Really good food and fun atmosphere...especially for an out-of-towner who often finds good Southwest/Mexican food hard to come by. The green salsa on the chimichanga was especially good. Worth it!

A little tricky to find. If you are driving east on Tanque Verde, it is just before the light at Sabino Canyon Road and there is parking in the front. I was there with some friends for dinner. The food was tasty and those that were familiar with New Mexican flavors really liked it a lot. The salsa was good. I had the machaca quesadilla which I enjoyed The breakfast menu looked particularly interesting and would like to try breakfast one time. The service was a little slow as someone else mentioned, they had a lot of takeout meals and took food orders as they came in. There were a lot of choices with the New Mexican red or green chiles. I wasn't impressed with the beans and rice but did enjoy the taste of what I had.

Found this place on Yelp while staying at a resort north of there. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the bartenders, who were really helpful with menu recommendations. I thought the green hatch chile sauce and dishes that came with it (enchiladas, rellenos, pork chile stew, etc.) were fantastic. The bartender talked me into putting a fried egg on my enchiladas, which I had never tried before. That was delicious and different. We liked this place so much we came back two nights later. That time I tried the red chile shredded beef, which was also fantastic in a soft or hard shell taco. We then went to sopapillas for dessert, which tasted like old style beignets, fantastic.. I agree with other feedback that the spice level could have been hotter, but I am sure that if I had asked for that I would have gotten it. The front room was definitely more interesting / fun than the back room.

This is how a restaurant should be ran!! We stayed in Tucson during our trip to Vegas, and on our way out, stopped at this gem. Our waitress Michelle was amazing and even ordered for us. The food was authentic and full of flavor. Perfectly seasoned. My husband is a chef, so it's hard to please him. You know it's good when his eyes close! Please bring a location to Houston!!!!

Never had a bad experience here. I finally after 3onths of frequenting this location sat on the patio. It's very nice. Food is always great. Service is awesome. They cater to you as if you are their brother or sister, mom or dad, grandpa or grandma, this type of service makes you feel welcome.

Noisy inside so ate on the patio, misters blowing in our faces but peaceful with tasty salsa to keep us occupied. The green chile pork stew was delicious and hotter than most restaurants dare make it. The others enjoyed their lunch choices, too. The waiter was attentive. All in all a good experience so we will return.

Even half way through, the food was still hot! Michelle was extremely helpful and prompt with anything we asked! Will definitely be coming back !!!

Excellent food, which I would rate at four stars. Reason for my two-star review: the margaritas were terrible. Completely watered down. Tasted like weak lemonade. I don't think there was any tequila in them at all. My wife and I were so disappointed in the poor drink quality. That's a real disgrace in a restaurant like this. If we come back again, we'll stick to water. On a more positive note, the green chile sauce is fantastic. The overall menu is extensive, with a nice tilt toward New Mexican cuisine, and the service was top-notch. But quit watering down your drinks, Poco & Moms! That's one of the oldest tricks in the restaurant game, and this place really should know better.

Stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. Went to the bar and got a great indoctrination from Peter. Great bartender with great food recommendations. Both my wife and I ordered the enchiladas, one chicken, one pork. I got over easy eggs on my mine, great choice. Food was excellent and served hot and timely, not from under a heat lamp. Our new choice for Mexican food in Tucson. Enjoyed our evening with Peter and the rest of the sraff. A must try!

This place was sooo good! There was a 30 minute wait on a Saturday night, so we decided to sit at the bar. I wasn't given a drink menu, so I had great difficulty deciding what to drink. When one bartender made me feel like an ass for asking questions and suggestions, the other stepped in and made some phenomenal suggestions that let me select the best drink for me. The food was delicious! I was so impressed and so full-it was great! I would have said that I was too full for dessert and not had any which would have been a grave mistake. I luckily have fabulous friends who make excellent executive decisions and unknown to me ordered the sopapillas- They were incredible! I left very happy. It's not near me, but I consider it worth the trek out to the east side!

Really good! Their portions are huge too! I think this is my new favorite Mexican food place in tucson. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the chips, a little bland but that might be normal for authentic Mexican. Loved the salsa though, the margarita, and the burrito that I needed help to finish.

This place is delicious comfort food at reasonable prices. My husband and I ordered green chili stew and the green chili enchiladas with machaca and please get the two optional eggs. There was a plethora of food with free chips and salsa as well. I recommend bringing a big appetite and be prepared. I left more stuffed than I have been in a while. Great suggestion for a cheat meal to get some tasty food. Two notes, the soda only has two refills and there is no changing table for the babies. Definitely will come back for date night the drinks also looked tasty :-)

Wow, P&M's, way to fancy up the decor! This was our first visit to Poco & Mom's new location and the surroundings are lovely--that patio seating will be hot ticket when it warms up a few degrees! For everyone familiar with the Kolb spot, the new digs may seem like a 180 in comparison, but the waitresses will still be sweet to you and the food is much the same, including the bangin' salsa and house made chips. (I was told three of the cooks at this branch were brought over from the Kolb kitchen). We went dressed for the Kolb location and felt a little out of place. We were most stoked about the addition of BOOZE(!) to the menu, but I have to agree with one of the other reviewers who rated her adult beverages sub-par. We had to send the Kentucky Bourbon we ordered back because, not only was it in a pint glass for some reason, but it was cloyingly sweet and not what we ordered. I got the Hatch Bloody Maria and it definitely had a kick...and they definitely had a better idea of how to make a bloody than a sidecar because the second time they brought it, it tasted like it had pineapple juice or some other source of unwarranted sweetness involved. Oh, and it was rimmed with salt and had a tablespoon of sugar/salt at the bottom of the glass(?!). Ew. I really liked PM's new environs but I'll steer clear of cocktails here until they get it straightened out. If you are easily dairy-stricken, you should ask for the crema and cheese on the side (this goes for both locations). I get the feeling this place fills up FAST, but if you get there before noon you should be okay.

I went here with coworkers today, we had lunch outside on the patio. It was nice with the fountain. We had an excellent waitress named Michelle - she drew pictures on our to go boxes, she was just friendly and exceeded customer service expectations, she found out if we had ever been there, and told us our choices were good ones, she asked us if we wanted separate checks, and let us know she would put our food before grabbing our drinks. Oh, and the food was good too :) we all had the combo lunch plates, pretty yummy!

If I could have licked my plate I would have. The sour cream green chili sauce ...okay...how do you describe heaven. The food was delicious. Fresh and ample portions. We had to roll home. I had the chicken enchilada with the sour cream chili sauce, my friend had the stuffed sopapilla with shredded beef. The margarita's were served in 10 oz cups. There was no room for dessert. My only negative is the noise level inside. It was hard to have a conversation. The patio is lovely but it fills up early and people seem to linger. This will definitely be on my "regular" list.

Ate here for breakfast today. We both ordered breakfast burritos -- mine was machaca ($8.99) and my husband had the chorizo ($8.39). Both burritos were very bland and lacked any type of seasoning, so we ordered salsa to add some flavor to them. Honestly, I couldn't even taste an egg flavor! For the price we paid for the burrito and potatoes, we expected more meat and more flavor. Had dinner here a few months ago and it was pretty much standard Mexican fare, good but nothing out of the ordinary. On a positive note, the staff is very efficient and friendly, but flavorful well-prepared food is really what we're looking for as well as good service. Will not be returning.

Visited Poco and Mom's Cantina at Tanque Verde and Sabino Canyon on Wed. May 20th for dinner. Brought along a total party of 11 people to observe a graduation celebration. While this restaurant does not take reservations, they were able to accomodate us, if someone agreed to show up a half hour early to coordinate the dining event. Overall the whole affair was excellent ! Our service, food and table setup were excellent ! This establishment serves a New Mexico type of Mexican Food, and is very good (not heavy or greasy). There is also very good value, for the quality of food here. All of our out of town visitors were very happy with the selection of this restaurant. For us locals, we have just found a new "to go" place to enjoy fine New Mexico Type Food at very reasonable prices. We will be back soon!

Being from northern New Mexico I was a little leary to try Tucson ' version of New Mexican food, but have to admit I was pleasantly suprised. Not a place I would take my New Mexican friends but a good place to get my green chile fix. Definately reccomend the green over the red. Sopa was delicious. Staff was great.

First time here. Just stopped in for a quick drink. Bar area was pretty small. Service was good. Prices were ok. Not many beers on tap. The food looked and smelled delish though. Next time we'll stay long enough to try the food.

This was one of my first ever breakfast burritos. I got the machaca burrito with mild sauce and I loved it!!! The beef was so tender and flavorful! My husband for the house breakfast burrito with chorizo and spicy sauce. It was still good but we both liked the flavors of mine a little better. We went a Sunday around noon and had a 20 min wait for 2 people fyi. I think it was worth it!

Traditonal american mexican. That's a bloated claim. Obviously these people have never travelled south, or west, of the border. When they state New Mexico cuisine, they mean "new mexico cusine." What is new mexico cuisine anyhow? All I know is that my wife and i had explosive diarrhea for 2 days after eating at this establishment!!!!! You do the math@@@

Being a native New Mexican, I've been a fan of Poco and Mom's for the three years I've lived in Tucson. Whenever I wanted I taste of "home" my husband and I would visit the 22nd/Kolb location. Of course we are excited to see the new location with it's pretty Santa Fe style closer to our home. We visited on a Friday night and were told it would be a 45 minute wait. A long time to wait but that's to be expected on a Friday night. Luckily we only waited about 30 minutes before our table was ready. Chips are homemade and the salsa is yummy. Hubby ordered the Cadillac margarita and I went with the Scooby Snack. We ended up sending the margarita back because it just wasn't good. Hubby got a Mai Tai instead and that wasn't much better but we didn't want to send a 2nd drink back. I enjoyed the Scooby Snack though. The food was excellent as always and we ordered Sopapillas for dessert. It still trips me out to order/pay for sopapillas. They come with your meal as a bread at almost every New Mexican restaurant in Albuquerque. I have come to learn its a dessert in Tucson. We'll be back, but I really wish they could figure out how to make a delicious margarita since it's a staple with any good Mexican dish. On a side note, I overheard another table request their margarita be frozen instead of on the rocks and they were told they don't have a blender. Really?! Please Poco and Mom's, get a blender and master your margarita recipe!

Food: The food here was overall good. The red chili enchiladas that Brandon got were not the brighter red chili sauce like we are use to having in Las Cruces, NM. So we're will a little disappointed with that. However we were very pleased with the green chili dishes we tried! Very hot and flavorful. The salsa was also amazing :) Service: The hostess was amazing, she let us know how long our wait to get in would be and she also let us know that once we ordered the food it would be 30 minutes for it to come out. The waitress was ok, we had to ask for a silverware and water a couple times. Atmosphere: Simple but nice. Underneath the tables were dirty which was not appealing, but everything else seemed clean. The outside patio looked amazing, we will sit out there next time!

Busy Saturday morning had to wait 20 min for a table. When we where seated inside there where lots of open tables, the outside patio look very nice for early morning meals. The tables could have used a few more inches of seperation however service was a good. Friendly, helpful, and attentive always had my tea in my glass and was checked on when my mouth wasn't full.Great food I've been there once for dinner and now for breakfast and will be returning soon.

My wife had thought of this place a couple of times as we drove by. Finally went last Saturday. It was plain and simply awesome! Super friendly and super fast service. So far so good. Now about the food. It was fantastic! Great flavors, just the right spice and fresh. It was really nice to find a great little place like this. The acoustics could use a little dampening inside, but other than that, it was just right for what we had a craving for.

4 of us went to Poco and Moms last Saturday. The place was busy so we waited at the bar for about 5 minutes. The service in the bar and the dining room were both very good. The place is well staffed and you gotta love that in Tucson. We had the green and red open enchiladas with different meats. The green was super spicy but delicious. The red a little less spicy and also very good. Four people having 5 drinks got out of there for $72.00 plus tip, not bad at all. If you like spicy Mexican food at a good price this is the place for you. The Ravenous Roofer

I am sitting in this restaurant right now, and maybe it is this Bohemia I am finishing off, but it has been an absolutely perfect celebratory meal. The service here was incredible. I highly recommend the chili relleno with the sour cream/green chili sauce. The chips are perfectly crispy and the salsa was a nice balance of salty sweet spicy. I have been trying to get in here to eat without an hour wait and I guess 8 pm on a Tuesday is just the ticket if you want to avoid the crowds. The bar was full but it was quiet and cozy in the back with mariachis playing (not at all obnoxious, lovely). Love the new location! Definitely go and enjoy the hype; this location, like its predecessor, lives up to it!

I LOVE the one on Kolb. The food is delicious and the servers are always great. Owners please please please train your staff at this new one. It is always slow and unorganized, and the food isn't quite as good. It's closer for me so I want you to stay open!!!

I am a huge fan of the original location. We have been going there with the family for years. I have to say I am impressed with the new location. We went on a day they had a huge wedding reception and I did not notice any service delays or problems. The food tastes the same as the other location (which is fantastic) and there is the bonus of the adult beverages. Very clean and bright dining room and overall good atmosphere. I have to say though, I like the small dingy location a bit better! I suppose I have gotten used to the truck stop vibe and the wait staff that call me "hon". This location though is much better for larger parties or to bring guests. We will definitely return.

What a great idea! The location is amazing, parking is good and they have a bar here! The staff is good, Michelle took care of us. and is amazing. I had the Silver City with machaca, as always, the green chili was pretty mild, though I like it hotter and the beans were tasty. This is a brand new location, the owners are open minded enough to know that what works for one location may need to be tweaked for another. I would suggest larger coffee cups and talk to a local roaster about yummy fresh roasted coffee. I would also have the bar staff learn to make perfect scratch Micheladas and Bloody Mary's, they aren't interchangeable. A good Bloody Mary can make or break a bar, a fabulous Bloody will bring them in like crazy.

Same great food, awesome new location. The new location is much bigger than their original location at the NW corner of Kolb and 22nd Street. I love the new patio with the fountain. It makes for a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy their Silver City Breakfast - topped with their Red Chile Pork of course. It's about 8:30 am on a Sunday morning in October; the temperature is 66 degrees F, making the patio perfect for breakfast. It seems that this location has a full bar. Although not today, perhaps when I next feel particularly indulgent, I'll try a Bloody Mary with my Silver City. There are a lot of new faces on the wait staff and I suppose that makes sense since they now have two locations. The new faces, just like the familiar ones, have been very friendly and helpful. Although friendly, the service is still flushing out all the bugs associated with opening a new restaurant. For instance when I first had breakfast at this location, I ordered my Silver City with 1/2 green sauce and 1/2 white. It arrived with all white - upon delivery the waitress quickly noticed this and brought out a side of green sauce. She attributed the mix-up to the lack of a button on the computer to specify the customization. They will get there in time. I look forward to becoming a long time patron at this location.

I had seen this place a while ago here on Yelp, and the great reviews it had. For some reason never ate here, but their new location on Tanque Verde is right down the street from us. My girlfriend and I decided to finally give it a try. I gotta say this place is pretty good. I had the New Mexico sampler (at least I think that's what was called) it had one hard shell taco, a chile relleno, and enchilada with green and red sauce. All of it was good except the chile relleno. The hatch chili was fine, and the cheese, but what I hated was the batter they used to coat it. It reminded me of a corn dog, and I HATE corn dogs (you white people haha JK!!) and some people like that, to each their own. However, the meats, sauces, rice, and beans were good. I will stay away from the chile relleno. Now the service, I give it an "eh." Our waiter was this lady who was a bit loquacious to say the least, and after getting our order she would stop, and talk to several tables on her way out. In all this it was busy, I had asked for a fork and knife that never came. I had to remind her, now I'm not Kim Jong Il, I;m not saying you can't socialize, but it is a job and moderation is good. All in all, I'll come back to this place.

This is the only place in Tucson that my wife and I have gone to more than once. The food is great, the drinks are fantastic, and the service has always been high quality. Today we let the waitress pick our masks for us, you just can't go wrong here. Trust me, this should be your go to Mexican restaurant.

Having never eaten at the other location, but hearing lots of positive reviews, we were thrilled to see this one open near our home. Stopped in for an early dinner/late lunch, and were generally delighted. The layout of the place is very peculiar. The narrow hallway to the dining area is quite tight and dark. Seating was comfortable in the dining area, and it was well lit. Patio looked gorgeous, but it was a very windy day so we opted to dine inside. Service was great, and waitress was delightful. Chips were good, salsa was excellent. The chile rellenos were pretty tasteless with too much coating, which was doughy. The chicken enchilada and shredded beef tacos were delicious. Beans were also pretty good. I don't like rice, so no comment on that. We look forward to going back and trying a few other dishes. --- Update (since mysteriously my initial review was delegated to Yelp Purgatory... ?!?) We went back a second time for a late breakfast just before Valentine's day. We were seated in the bar, which was fine. Only one other customer was visible in the restaurant at the time. My husband ordered the huevoes rancheros and I opted for a breakfast burrito with red chili. He enjoyed his meal, but I left more than half of mine behind. It was incredibly dry, and I believe they may have forgotten the egg entirely. If not, I don't know where it was. I did request a small side of sour cream, but that wasn't helpful. Lots of doughy tortilla, minimal filling, and just bland/dry. We did get to witness the staff goofing around a lot at the bar, concocting a new V-Day drink recipe maybe (?), and swapping tales about car parts. Kind of amusing, but also kind of unprofessional. One more try to decide if they're ON or OFF our reliable list. Again, the lay out is really, really peculiar...

So glad they finally opened here! Sat at the bar. Allison is a great bartender. Too early for alcohol for me but it looked good. We had the Silver city and relleno with machaca added. So good! Will definitely be back. I hear they allow dogs on the patio too.

Very good New Mexican style food, especially breakfast, which is what we went for. Very large portions of delicious food smothered in various chili sauces, what's not to like? Well, I guess it was a little tight, crowded, and loud in the main dining room, but they do have patio seating so I guess we'll have to try that next time.

I cant believe I drove by their location on Kolb for 15 years and never dropped in. We have gone twice in the last week and love the food. My wife and I split the Santa Fe special with a cup of totilla soup. Very Good! Their green hatch chilies were delicious but not for the faint of heart. They say they can make their dishes hotter or milder but I'll stick with the standard fare. It is the first time I ever ordered a chilie relleno and had a red chile inside it. Delicious. I would advise going early or you might have to wait

I love this place. Either location works for me. I don't care if I have to wait a little while. I have never had bad food or service. Friday at the new Tanque Verde location, we had to wait longer than usual for the food to arrive but it was hot and delicious. Worth any wait.

I was told of this place by my friend at coffee so my wife and I had to try it today. It has a large parking lot on the side and easy to find. The tables are good and service is also good. I tried the Machaca Burro for ten bucks. Good Machaca is hard to find even in Tucson. I told the waitress what I expected and what she brought me was made exactly how I love it. With green chilies and scrambled eggs mixed with Carne and cheese. My wife's plate chicken tostadas was very much enjoyed also. I give the place a hefty thumbs up, I'll be back with another ten spot.

We were really excited that the new location was finally open. My husband is leaving town and really wanted New Mexican food. Having dined regularly at the location on Kolb, we knew what we would be ordering. At 1:45 there was a wait of about 15 minutes, this was fine. We get seated, the noise level is horrible, since no one can hear each other, it seems everyone was shouting. The server shows up and plops down a basket of chips and salsa. No hello, thanks for waiting, no what would you like to drink. A few minutes later, she shows up and takes our order. She then disappears for ten minutes. Our waters are empty on the edge of the table, the chips are empty, (because they are really good and so is the salsa.) We get more chips, finally get more water, and then another fifteen minute pause, other people are leaving, there is no sign of a server in the dining area. Three tables are stuck there with no food. How long does it take to scramble an egg? The sauces are prepared, the beans are prepared? I was ready to walk out then she appears with our food, we commented on the delay. The response,"well there is a banquet room across the hall." No apology, none of the friendliness associated with the Kolb location. We won't be going back to this location. Perhaps the owners need to invest a little time in working with the staff. Many people were there, so I hope that this location works out for them, but I would rather sit on the patio on a busy street than endure that kind of attitude.

Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, but I'm very disappointed. As a New Mexican, we pride ourselves on our food, our green and red Hatch chili. They shouldn't lie about their food being New Mexican, because it will never come close.

Aside from the lack of air conditioning, we had a good experience tonight at this restaurant. The food was pretty good. The service was fast, and the staff came by and kept refilling water. I ordered carne asada tacos, no beans, double rice. I'll be back if the air conditioning is back on.

Never had a bad experience here. I finally after 3onths of frequenting this location sat on the patio. It's very nice. Food is always great. Service is awesome. They cater to you as if you are their brother or sister, mom or dad, grandpa or grandma, this type of service makes you feel welcome.

A must try!

Good stuff!

I LOVE the one on Kolb. The food is delicious and the servers are always great. Owners please please please train your staff at this new one. It is always slow and unorganized, and the food isn't quite as good. It's closer for me so I want you to stay open!!!

Love it here! The shredded beef tostada is delicious - service is always great too! Sour cream green chili sauce is super tasty and the chips and salsa are good with just the right amount of heat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
