Nico's is awesome for quick Mexican food. I taught at an Elementary School nearby and used to do runs to this location to pick up lunch for my coworkers and I. The drive thru is always quick and efficient and I have yet to have them make a mistake on our order, which is great. I have to say the carne asada burrito is amazing. The meat is cheap but good, there's lots of cheese, and the burrito itself is HUGE. It's the type of meal that tastes great while you eat it and then start to regret immediately upon finishing since your stomach feels like it's going to burst. But it's worth it. My coworkers would swear by Nico's rolled tacos (though I haven't tried them myself) and the red salsa that you can get on the side is spicy and delicious. All in all, it works well for a quick and filling lunch option.

Nico's is great for quick, cheap, greasy Mexican food. It's by no means authentic or fancy, and I always just drive through instead of going in. The egg and bacon burrito is my usual order, with the red sauce. I've also tried the carne asada cheese fries and the rice, both were good but like most things on the menu, nothing spectacular. Not my first choice, but good after late night study sessions or if nothing else is open.

Super decent, quick Mexican food! It admittedly isn't the best nor the healthiest, but that has never stopped me from eating here frequently. The drive through option is much appreciated, and it's excellent for a late night bite. The breakfast burritos are really delicious! My go-to lunch option is the vegetarian burrito, and it's one of the better veggie burritos offered at any hole-in-the-wall restaurant in town.

Legit Mexican fast food. Try a pollo asado burrito and red salsa. Building is a little dingy, but still my standard local burrito joint. Drive-thru is a bonus.

As a person with a craving for awesome Mexican food Nico's is the way to go. I routinely frequent this place for their California Burrito. That hunk of a meal is just deliciously cooked. Not to mention the awesome spicy red and green sauces that can accompany your meal. While i haven't engaged in the Nicos vs Betos war, I can say Nicos does provide great food. Next time you're in the Dirty T try to snag a delicious Jamaica. It will literally transport you to Jamaica it's that good. Or even go bigger grab a smooth Horchata with that spicy meal! Nico's is a must have for any Tucsonites/visitors!

Lakers vs Celtics. Yankees vs. Red Sox. Nico's vs. Betos. Truly, these are rivalries for ours and all times. Where you stand on Nico's vs Betos may say more to people about yourself than your political or religious affiliation. It may even be a deal breaker in a relationship. Well screw relationships folks, we're bout to go deep here. Burrito for burrito, this particular Nico's has no peer. It's after you get to the combos and taco's that I feel Betos has just a little more quality on its bench. But let's talk burritos, baby. The Nico's carne asada burrito is beautiful. As long and hearty as a Subway footlong (so approximately 9inches), and usually as quality as you can expect from a 24hour hole-in-the-wall. Add the beans to any burrito and enjoy the early onset diabetes and hypertension because it's just so sinfully good. Don't even get me started on the breakfast burritos. Only 2 places in town can match them, and those places are closed when I'm drunk so even that's debatable. All and all, Nico's is rightfully a late night institution. And a lunchtime resolution to avoid. But you're gonna do it. You're gonna

Favorite place for burritos, eat here almost everyday, people are freindly and food is consistently good

  • Kelly C.

Good value for what you get. Good beef tacos, and the salsa was great. Had the carne asada plate, and the meat was a bit flavorless. ok place overall though.

I'm Out-- Like anyone running to work who didn't eat breakfast, thought I'd stop and get my Friday burrito on--of course I like Chorizo, potato, egg & cheese--but they don't have one. They have a bacon cheese, potato egg and its 4.79. I went through the drive-in today and asked that they swap out the bacon and put in Chorizo--drive through attendant said--that will be 8.79--I said what? She said changing the bacon to Chorizo cause a price increase--can you hear my wheels spinning--I'm not a fan--won't go back. These burritos are good but not great and that price is ridiculous. For that money, I can have a sit down breakfast at the Blue Willow with coffee and their Chorizo breakfast burrito has real potatoes and not french fries. Sorry Nicos--I'm out.

The service is not great, to be honest. But the breakfast burritos are enough to earn it an extra star.

  • James D.

I just got a "California burrito" from the drive thru this morning. I used quotes because it was anything but that. The fries were so undercooked and mushy it tasted more like a shepherd's pie burrito with mashed potatoes. I used to love this place, but I probably won't be going back for a while.

Hands down one of the best breakfast burrito's I've had in my entire life. Very quick, cheap and best of all, tasty.

No, just no..... Just a quick question, "HOW ON EARTH DO YOU MESS UP A QUESADILLA???" I have been to this location several times and each time I'm more and more dissatisfied. Poor preparation, terrible service, and a half cooked quesadilla later and I am more than ready to never come back to any Nico's ever again. Disappointed is the only words I have at this point.

I used to live around corner from this Nicos. So I drive here to get breakfast burro cuz I THOUGHT they were way way better than Los Betos. Ha, I won't patronize either anymore. Am I in fucking space or what, but fast food and even most sit down food totally SUCKS snemore...For $10 for a ham and bacon burro and a pint of beans, at least the frickin management could make sure a $6 burro is actually Hot, not a hard tortilla and actually had some substance to it. The beans were very bland and didn't even come with s pinch of cheese. OMG. Cheap ass MF's. I read a post where someone said these greasy folk charge a Gringo tax. Your right, I get over charged every single time to the point I ask for a to go menu so I can add it up or a receipt, you notice the receipt is NEVER itemized. I'm not racist and would help anyone if they needed it no matter their color, but I....ME, This white chick feels I'm being discriminated against often. I go out to eat and server can't speak good English. I go thru drive thru I get ripped off, not only my money but quality of food. I go do business with some businesses and the help can't speaka de english. Not just Hispanic, I see it with Asian, Indian and others....just Please, speak our language if your gonna serve us and count on our money to help Americanize Your ass... said with a smile!!! ........ Really, is that honestly too much to ask? ???? I'm fed up. If I immigrate to another country I'm dam sure gonna attempt to learn their language. I could say the same about the last Chinese restaurant I went to, it sucked, but had great reviews. I'm wondering now why the crab puffs came out pathetically small and not puffy at all, more like crab flats and they were cold. ....grrrrr....Thinking that cuz I'm American, I better stick with baseball, Apple pie and Chevy's. Dam, that sucks cuz I sho like to live vicariously thru the food I eat. Why can't people just take pride in what they do? I know, deep question, deeper answer. Hey, does anyone know where to get really good Apple pie? Buuuuaaaahhhaaaaaa.

Quick review: if you can't keep someone at the drive-thru register, close the drive-thru. I sat in my car for 10 minutes, waiting for someone to say something -- and I did call out several times quite loudly (in case the microphone was wonky or something). I know the guy behind me left as well since I'm guessing he was fairly sure he'd have no better success. Really a shame, since I was getting food for the entire office and I had to disappoint them by finding another lunch spot. $30 in business, gone. Sucks to be you, Nico's.

  • Jason H.

Best California burrito of all the Nico's I have had. Best Breakfast burritos too no matter which one you get. And they don't skimp on the salsa unlike most other. And if you like cheese they load it in the food. Also 24/7

    (5)
  • Phil S.

This is my favorite 24/7 Mexican food place in the area. Of course it's not the best Mexican food but it's still very good and the price is right. With the exception of the occasional piece of gristle, which is to be expected, my food is always delicious. You also need to be clear about the amount and type of sauce (red or green) that you desire or else you might get less than the complimentary 2 sauces per item. In my opinion, the food is much better than Los Betos.

  • Donna F.

Food was decent, definitely lacked seasoning. Service was what you'd expect, fast, efficient, succinct. Nico's Nachos... half the cheese was gloriously melty and the other, well, not so much. Meat definitely needed seasoning; the salsas helped but not much. Guacamole was pureed/creamy, big turn off. The chips were shockingly good and they did not skimp on the good stuff covering them!! Carne Asada burrito... missed the note that you have to add sour cream. Again, meat was blaaaaaand. This is carne asada!! Where are my spices, it's marinated right? Or at least add a little salt & pepper!! I know it literally means grilled beef but come on!! They're open late night, a plus. Not rushing back with so many other options closeby... Throw in a smile and a little seasoning in the food and 5 stars will be a no-brainer.

  • Joshua L.

It's quick, fast and cheap. Generally only get the bean and cheese burrito, or the pollo asado burrito. Beef tacos are good on occasion. Last visit, I had the al pastor which was sooooo salty. I think the swelling in my fingers just went down. Super Nachos and super fries are both appalling...especially the fries - just in theory though, I wouldn't order those...ever.

Nico's is by far my favorite place to grab a bite to eat in Tucson. Delicious, quick Mexican food. Yum.

    (5)
  • Brom L.

I'm surprised to see low-ish ratings for this place. I was in Tucson for a week and ate here twice. Big, delicious breakfast burritos!, or rather, breakfast-lunch burritos since they are big enough to carry you all the way through the day and into dinner. They have a little salsa bar with four choices, too. All four are good! Green was my favorite but my friend loved the chunky red one. Not much for "ambiance or decor" but, not what I usually care for anyway. Price, flavor and amount were perfect. Fast service, too. (order at counter)

  • Dani S.

Mmm, Nico's. No better way than to start your day with a nice breakfast burrito from Nico's. The breakfast burrito basically becomes breakfast and lunch, considering how HUGE they are. This white girl LOVES the green salsa, so spicy and so delicious.

    (4)
  • Stephanie H.

Amazing for what it is. Burritos are a great deal, especially the breakfast ones. A tip for low-carbers: You can ask for your burrito without a tortilla - just the guts dumped into a container. Hey, it's good!

I come here every time I'm in town. World's best breakfast burritos. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot

  • Navid A.

Better than beto's, but if you can make it to the taco shop GO THERE! And if you're coming here during the daytime you are just nuts-- rubio's is better and nene's is a million times better. You should only go here if it's night and you are close. It's greasy, not-well-made, but it is good value so I won't go under three stars.

Sometime after the cocaine wears off and before that thing sleeping next to you wakes up you put your clothes back on and try to piece your life back together. There is no longer any dopamine or serotonin left in your brain and just how long you've been urinating blood is unclear but increasingly disconcerting. Not only do you no longer feel human you wonder if your behavior has invalidated even any claim to humanity. Thank goodness for Mr Nico and his eponymous taco shop. Warm tortillas, crispy carnitas or savory carne asada, pico de gallo with rice and beans. Maybe a big breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, bacon and cheese. Everything you need to start over again open 24 hours, no judgment, and a choice of red or green hot sauce. So you never really set the world on fire after college. This is Tucson- who cares? You've got the lunch thing figured out. You're A.J. Squaredaway as far as the taco situation is concerned.

For years and years, I thought to myself, who in their right and sober mind would EVER eat at Nico's? And then I met my boyfriend....I was grossed out by his regular order of two burritos, one carne asada and the other, breakfast with bacon. Finally, one day I had to have a bite and taste a Nico's burrito. Verdict? Carne Asada: unacceptable and I would never order it myself. It's just asking for tummy troubles. Breakfast burrito? Drop the bacon and order it with ham instead. This is more like a 2.5 review, but more often than not, the drive-through attendants and have been super nice and I've been known to knock over their tip jar with my side view mirror once or twice.....and they were still nice about it. I got to know all these attendants over the last few years, picking up food for my boyfriend and dropping it off at the hospital where he works, and now, I'll admit, once in a blue moon, I'll order a breakfast burrito with ham, potatoes, go light on the cheese. They use yellow greasy cheese, they should switch to monterey jack. And as Heather M mentioned, they definitely use french fry cut potatoes. But once in a while, late late at night, I'll pick up a Nico's burrito, eat a quarter of it and give the rest to my love. On the plus side, they use a decent quality tortilla, but they could do better. Taqueria Juanito's serves the most legit breakfast burrito in town and it's not the size of a football. Runner up is Taqueria el Pueblito. Sorry Nico's, you're dead last, BUT thanks for all the memories and for being open 24 hours.

It's safe to say that Nico's is probably the only place that I actually hate. That being said, my family eats at various Nicos all the time - I guess it's a hit or miss sort of thing. . For me it is a big MISS... I dislike the burritos with just bland meat and beans - and then they charge you extra for all of the lettuce, salsa, cheese, sour cream etc, (that should automatically come with the burrito wtf?). The guac is also a pretty foul runny sauce (forget trying to find a real chunk of avocado in that mess). The tacos are bland and greasy and pretty much taste the same no matter what flavor you get. Blah

  • Ranger H.

Every time I went there ( I will never go again)...I was short changed by the cashier. I always tried to look at it as a "gringo tax"...this experience is common in this town at the less reputable Mexican food restaurants, regardless, the last time - when it was over $4 I was shorted... I decided to say something. That is when it took a very long time for my food. I strongly suspect they were doctoring the food because I said something about being short changed. I did not eat it. I will never eat at any of their stores again. This kind of experience is very unfortunate because not all of the 24hr Mexican food joints are like that, but I am very hesitant to purchase from them now. Also the place is dirty and everyone speaks broken English at best...but some of that is also common in these parts. I wish I could have put negative star rating for this restaurant...I wonder how the Health Dept does not shut them down...seriously

This Nico's is my fave fast Mexican place for carnitas tacos and breakfast burritos. Their business has slowed a bit since city road construction forced them to move from the corner of Ft Lowell and Campbell, two blocks south to Blacklidge and Campbell (2965 N Campbell). So go visit. Ask for lime if you get the carnitas tacos! They still have a Drive-Thru window, it's just not as obvious as it was at the old location.

  • Gilbert T.

The food is kinda pricey, but pretty good. It's your typical greasy fast food place, but it still is worth a pick up if you are looking for a late night place in Tucson. The service isn't too bad, but don't go inside in the late night hours. Some shady people go in, but other than that the food is good.

Nicos is the best place to get food when you're drunk. I rated this location because it is the closest one to the location that I originally came to love on ft lowell and campbell (I was sad they closed it down). Anyway when you are drunk and hungry getting a hold of a massive meat friendly burrito with extra guacamole is just what the doctor ordered. It seriously is so good when you're intoxicated. I have had it sober and it's not as good, not bad by any means but not as satisfying. I lived out of state and we're honestly lucky to be able to get a carne asada burrito without beans/rice/cheese, aka california style burritos. I'm a man, give me meat! I don't care where it came from at 3 am in the morning :D Did I mention it's really good when you're drunk? Also note their breakfast burritos are pretty good, the drunk rule need not apply to that one and if you have drunk friends who don't like to eat burritos get adventurous and get some super nachos and dominate them. The new place just doesn't have the same fun atmosphere of the old place btw. I miss the drunken banter. Nicos tastes better than Los Betos IMO as well.

In high school I used to be very fond of Nico's. True if you are looking for a place to eat at 3:00 in the morning Nico's might be a good bet. But as far as Mexican food goes why would you ever go to Nico's when any other real taco stand is not only cheaper but many time healthier and more delicious. Which brings me to ask why is it called "Nico's Taco Shop" when I don't even think they serve tacos. Nico's is a disgrace to Mexican food in the same way Whataburger is a disgrace to American food. If you are looking for something cheap go to El Guero Canelo or Nene's or Taco Fish or any other taco truck. Pros: Open 24 hrs, great place to meet drunk people Cons: The food

5 is the only number of stars this Nico's deserves. Okay Okay, it isn't in the same place where fights, public nudity, and first kisses used to happen, but the magic is still there people. This review is about more than just their food (which is obviously delicious), it is about what Nico's does for the community. This business is and always will be there for you - ESPECIALLY you students who need somewhere to eat after a long night of partying. Never take that for granted, because they certainly love you. I mean you can't deny the magical capabilities of this taco stand?! Cures hangovers faster than a speeding bullet, hot sauce more powerful than a locomotive, and the ability to send you to the bathroom in a single bound. I recommend any breakfast burrito.

  • Molly H.

Drive through, 23.5/7, best breakfast burritos possibly in the world. I love the three rolled taquitos smothered in guacamole and salsa. And of course, Nico's history in this town deserves its own accolades! Five stars because it's luxe? No. Five stars because it's Nicos. And if you don't know what that means, you either haven't been, or never will understand why this place is a Tucson icon.

    (5)
  • Ryan S.

Don't mistake this for something it's not: it's a cheap, 24/7 fast-food Mexican restaurant. It's not Cafe Poca Cosa. If you're looking for inexpensive, greasy, delicious, and unhealthy fast-food Mexican food, you can't do better than Nico's. Similar to Losbetos and the Taco Shop, but in my opinion a little bit better (but really, if you've already made the decision to eat at one of these places, what's the difference anyway). I love the carne asada burrito. The breakfast burritos are also good.

Nico's Tacos looks like your average Mexican fast food place from the outside. From the inside it doesn't look all that spectacular either. The restaurant itself isn't that clean I would say it isn't dirty or filthy but pretty average. If it was cleaner it would probably get a 5 star from me. There is a pretty large abundance of tables as well, I've never had a problem finding tables or anything like that. They even have a few arcade machines to pass time while you're waiting but its usually not a long wait. Nothing satisfies my late night Mexican food craving like Nicos. It is easily my most favorite Mexican place after 10pm. The food here is made very well and you usually get a lot for your money. My absolute favorite meal here is the chimichanga with carne asada meat. Everyone in Tucson should give Nico's Tacos a shot, you definitely won't be disappointed.

I used to live near a Los Betos, and I would usually go there to get my carnitas burrito fix. But If I wanted the Tucson benchmark, I would drive over to Nico's. That's right, I said it, Nico's is better than Los Betos. Now that I live in Seattle, it seems you can only find burritos with way too much going on (beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, corn, etc...) There is something really beautiful about the simplicity of a tortilla filled with meat and guacamole.

    (4)
  • Ingrid T.

Nico's is the inexpensive version of Mexican food--not bad when you are on the run. They now serve their burritos without the tortilla for people on low carb diets which is preferred for myself. Pretty cheap under $10 a person, I honestly can eat their for about $7 Close to the house so if you've had a late night out or a late day at work you can grab some grub. They take about 5 minutes to make your food. So it can definitely be convenient.

I'm a straight up fan of the original Nico's on Campbell near Ft. Lowell and have been there more times than I can count! This place has kept me coming back for more with their warm tortillas and all of the events that seem to transpire when you're there. For a case of the munchies, nothing beats the supreme nachos, machaca burrito or the carne asada burrito....guaranteed to be loaded with sour cream and guacamole!

  • Danny S.

In my opinion, Nico's carnitas burrito is one of the most emotionally satisfying foods that one can obtain in this city. It's extremely indulgent -- fatty, rich, and slathered in guacamole -- and reasonably priced at $5.39 after tax [UPDATE: Nico's raised the price of this burrito -- I'm not sure what it costs now, but it's presumably still worth it]. If you haven't had one, then you're seriously missing out. Besides that, though, the food I've gotten from there has been pretty average; not bad, but nothing I'd be really eager to recommend.

  • Heather M.

Dear Nico's, To you it was just a breakfast burro, but to me, to me, it was the only thing I would have time to eat that day. I wanted it, needed it, to satisfy for hours to come. Unfortunately, it was far from satisfying. The eggs were overcooked and scarce. The cheese was hiding out in the center and never made its way around to visit other areas of the burro. The biggest offense, though, was the undercooked, crunchy potatoes that I am certain were frozen french fries in their previous life. I'm guessing you torched the eggs trying to get the overabundance of frozen french fries cooked enough to resemble an appropriate potato ingredient for a breakfast burro. It didn't work. If using fresh potatoes is too much, you could at least cube the fries so they don't look like worms invading my burro.

As per my local friends, Nico's is the go-to place after a drunken night out. It's open 24 hours and is basically fast-food Mexican. I came here for breakfast after an early morning hike up Tumamoc Hill. Way to cancel out a hardcore workout! I had an egg and cheese breakfast burrito. For ~$5, you get a really large and filling burrito that tastes decent. Nothing special. You can't really eff up egg and cheese, right?

  • Michael C.

Better than some 24 hour taco shops, but better options exist. Burritos are reliably huge. Chile Relleno burrito's have two chile's-- good. The sauce added to the burrito does it no favors. Hold the sauce and take extra salsa. Quality varies between visits. Fish tacos are acceptable. I'd be grateful to have a place like this in Florida. For Tucson, there are better options.

I know so many people who love Nico's, so I have been loathe to express my disgust, but... I live a block away, and in the two years I've lived there, I've eaten there three times. In contrast, despite the fact that I will almost always choose local over [national] chain, I have eaten at La Salsa across the street probably five times, Chipotle 10 times. And just so you don't think I have chain-food mexican tastes, I enjoy other area Mexican fast food (los Betos and Viva Burrito) , not to mention random taco stands. There were a few times a couple of years ago that I got burritos there somewhat regularly. They were acceptable. Then, when I moved closer, I got one really bad one. The carne asada just did not remind me of other cow I have eaten. I got a breakfast burrito once a couple of months ago that was fine, and then, I tried another carne asada burrito a couple of weeks back. Again, I just couldn't shake the feeling that it was some other animal than cow I was eating. I had to toss it after a few bites.

I've had one decent breakfast burrito here. This place fails health inspections more than it passes them and that makes me queasy. From azstarnet.com : Nico's Mexican Food, 1855 E. Fort Lowell Road A food handler cracked raw eggs and then handled a ready-to-eat tortilla without washing hands, a Sept. 2 inspection report says. Shredded cheese, cooked chicken and cooked beans in a walk-in refrigerator were not kept at a cool enough temperature and a cook prepared a burrito without gloves on. Nico's passed a follow-up inspection on Sept. 11. In April, the same Nico's was placed on a provisional license and failed two follow-up inspections before passing the third. Eeeew...

I've had the tacos and a burrito from this place. Every time it's been hot, quick and delicious. I love Mexican cuisine and this place is a great way to satisfy those cravings.

  • John B.

If I was drunk at 3am driving by with money in my pocket and nobody at the drive through, I would eat here again. Seriously, the chicken in my taco was so dry it had the consistency of cardboard and the 'hot sauce' was basically water with cayenne, turmeric and garlic salt. And why, oh why are the taco shells deep fried?

Nico's is strictly for tasty late night burritos for me, ridiculously beautiful creations known as "Super Fries" for friends and apparently some other things to other people. Having come from an almost life-time of Los Betos and Viva, Nico's blew me away. Everything I've had has been delicious. The bean and cheese burritos seem to have the perfect, awe-inspiring liquidy consistency, breakfast burritos have a certain flavor that betters others, the beef is succulent and greasy, the enchiladas are just as good as anywhere else. This review is actually just making me hungry. 24-hours made me try them and the food has made me come back over every other late night mexican food place, save Taco Shop. I give it four "mmms." While I'm at it, six and a half "om noms" too for anyone that hates people making up their own rating names.

The Flying Saucer. That's all you need to get, its so good. Late night Nicos is always a great time filled with drunk college students craving munchies. I ordered the flying saucer the first time I went and haven't ordered anything since. The only negative is the dirty environment, but what can you expect? its a cheap mexican hole in the wall joint.

  • Marni A.

The worst Nico's in town. They charge you for lettuce and cheese if you want it in your burrito. I thought burritos should comes with lettuce and cheese? Just saying. Even if you tell them to take out the beans they still charge you for LETTUCE! $1.07 to be exact. Drive down the road to the other Nico's and get it for free. Remember the greedy get needy. Will never go to this location again.

Oh my gosh do I miss Mexican food. Real, authentic Mexican food. And it absolutely satisfies the palate at 2 in the morning after the Tucson bars have closed up shop. There is no better way to kill those late night cravings than with a sausage breakfast burrito from Nico's. The only downside is that I didn't have any Red Devil hot sauce with me; damn those TSA carry-on regulations...

Nico's is a great GO-TO quick Mexican food spot. Dont expect a sit down dinner and a margarita. What you can expect is a place full of college kids, quick counter service and a pretty awesome Carne Asada burrito. Another good item is the carne asanda quesadilla, it comes with TONS of meat and a great item to share or as a meal on its own. They must be doing something right otherwise they wouldnt have been able to open as many locations as they have. I MISS YOU NICO'S

The Nico's bean and cheese burrito is my go to meal when I need comfort food. You can't get a better deal in Tucson. The food is fresh, the service is quick, and the red salsa is the best in town.

Gourmet it is not. Quality ingredients it has not. But the flavor? Yes, it has the flavor. As a vegetarian for the animals' health and not my own I have to make special efforts to get enough saturated fats and cholesterol. So when I find something like Nico's super fries (hold the meat) it's as if the clouds part and a big cheese-colored sun shines down upon me. When my friend took me there for the first time he placed an order of super fries for each of us. "I'm kind of hungry," I said, "I don't think fries is gonna do it." He laughed in a knowing way and assured me that this day I would not go hungry. Sweet sour cream the man was right. Not only was it mountainous but as delicious as it was heavy. And so I give you photographic proof to the monstrosity that is Nico's super fries: xrl.us/okvse I give it four lipitors.

Anyone who gives Nico's a low rating is clearly not from Tucson (damn University student out-of-towners fuck up this city). Nico's is a staple of the fast, shitty, salient Mexican food subgenre of restaurant. I know Tucsonans who call me to tell me how much they miss Nico's since they left Tucson. Why is hard to say--they food usually results in terrible indigestion and I wouldn't be surprised if it's taking years off our lives. But, as I said before, it's a staple. Everything on the menu is jam-packed with meat, cheese and hot sauce, and their grills are imbued with the flavor of twenty years of Mexican orders. (This is why the newly built Nico's wasn't as good--you didn't get years of flavor with each bite. It takes a few years to build that up.) I know kids who went here for their pre-prom dinner. I heard a rumor that the Nico's up in Cat Foot (richtown) was used as a front for the black tar heroin trade. Maybe it's the heroin that keeps us coming back.

I'm a big Nico's supporter. It was there to support me many a day when hungover and in need of either a breakfast burrito or carne asada nachos. This is cheap fast and flavorful and unhealthy mexican food at its finest. I have never been disappointed going here.

This is the standard for quick/drunk/greasy Mexican food.. Only go here if u are very drunk... Too drunk to find any number of the awesome other choices for quick Mexican food. I know plenty of people who have gotten sick from this place but I am glad to say I have yet to. Also as far as pricing goes there are also plenty of better choices.

So dirty inside and out. I'd be afraid to see the prep area. Eek!

Their burritos are $4.74-$6. Bean burritos are about the same price as a meat-filled burrito, so choose wisely! Their burritos are mammoth-sized, but I don' t think Nico's is that special. Cheddar cheese is their cheese...

There was recently an attack on Nico's by an out of control vehicle on Campbell. Say what you will about it, Nico's is Too Tough to Die and now all is well. As a vegetarian, you might not think there is a lot to eat at Nico's, but you'd be wrong. Today I had a most decadent Chile Relleno burrito and I couldn't have asked for more. The beans, tortillas, and pretty much everything on the menu is to die for. If you're trying to decide which Nico's to visit, the one on Campbell is the original (and best). It can get quite packed in there, but it's well worth the wait. If you don't like crowds, go at 4am -- they are open and it's generally pretty chill by then.

I've been told by a few U of A students that Nico's is a great alternative to other local fast Mexican food. The burrito was cold. Not just stuff that would have been cold that was put into the burrito. The meat in the burrito was cold. Not just luke warm. Cold like it had been in a refrigerator. What the ftp.

Passing through town and had to stop in. a 24 hour taco stand / restaurant. The chic tacos were great, huge chunks of chicken and lots of cheese. Great carne asada burrito and carne asada torta for my companion. Do they have ac ? the place was stifling hot inside and very run down. The service was quick and friendly. Wish they had one in Ahwatukee.

i only get the california burrito. So good, yet soo bad for your health. I know i packed on at least 5 lbs. just coming here and Los Betos.

You gotta know what you're getting yourself into if you eat at a place like this. Nico's, Los Betos, Filiberto's etc. are never going to be the kind of place you recommend to your parents when they come to visit, nor are you going to take a date there before the two of you get drunk. This is quick and dirty, cheap, and terrible for you. You don't save up and plan to go to Nico's. You drive by and think "Holy shit, I need ________." Rarely will you be disappointed. If you think these places are all the same and only good drunk food, try Nico's while sober (or at least wait for the hangover the next morning)--It's way better than all the others.

Not a clean place, but it used to be a good for a cheap burrito. Their prices have gone up and are now comparable to Chipotle and La Salsa across the street. I only go there for breakfast burritos now. Having consumed more burritos there than I can count/remember, I can tell you the deliciousness of your burrito is a pure gamble depending on who is in the kitchen. Also if you are going through the drive-through, check your burrito, half the time they give you the wrong one or don't understand you on their ghetto mic. Then, if you don't mind extra special salsa in your burrito, ask them to fix it.

DO NOT go, went to the drive thru ordered 6 beef tacos and 2 bean tostados, got home with 3 beef tacos and 2 what looked like bean tostadas and paid $18.11 for the 3 tacos and 2 tostados??? called back and the girl lied to me saying the bean tostados were $4.49 each and they were $3.49 each,,,major scam bilking customers for extra $$$$ taco bell is better.

In five days in Tucson, I ate at Nicos three times. Say what you want, but when it comes to chep, tasty, and fast eats Nicos fills the bill. Furthermore, if you are expecting perfection from a $3 burrito...you probably think you are pretty when you look in the mirror...stop deluding yourself and take what the $3/hr help serves you. NEW RULE: Be careful of what you expect, you will get it served to you at Nicos wrapped in a big tortilla!

I have eaten at several Nico's across Tucson and they all had one thing in common. Lousy food! I actually found one good tasting item on their menu - the fish taco. Everything else is not for sober human consumption.

Exactly what you'll love from a taqueria. Excellent fast food. All the traditional items. Worth stopping for lunch.

U of A Memories...Nico's was the best early in the am with a heavy buzz. A couple carne asada tacos and off to bed. I slept like a baby.

Try the Bean and Cheese Chimichunga and you'll see why this place gets 5 stars. Nico's, which really is part of Tucson's charm, is a Tucson fast food chain offering $3 - $7 assortment of Sonoran styles Mexican food. This is the original location. It is great if you are on your way back from the bars or if your in the mood for a big lunch. The food is very consistent and always great. You can eat in but I recommend taking out from this location. (Go to Oracle/Roger for a better sit down location) I love the food here! Every time I visit Tucson, I have to make a trip here.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
