Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I've never eaten here but my friend got a turkey sandwich a couple of hours ago and he said "this is worse than the public school turkey sandwiches" (word to my n word Moaz)

Walked in here like oh alright boutta eat a solid sandwich. ordered a turkey sandwich because thats what i felt like eating at the time. so i took a bite and was like oh sh**! This the worst sandwich ive ever had. threw it away and left

Luke's on Grant rd is the BOMB,!!! The service is always great and the food is even better!!!
(5)Taryn C.
I wouldn't eat there regulary. The floor and tables were littered with food and sticky stains. My sanwhich was loadied with giant pieces of onions, lettuce and peppers but had little meat and cheese. My chicago dog was soggy and tasted funny. I'm not a fan of this place. It's been worse. So hopefully it's getting better.

Always awesome!! Eat the beef!! Or the chicken. Or the hotdogs..whatever, it's all good!

Oh how I miss the old days of lukes. Days of wonderful sandwiches gone by. But that was long ago and perhaps with a previous owner? After several bad experiences here and at Ft Lowell sadly its time to move on. Old lukes you will be missed.

I have been going to lukes for years. There is not a sandwich that compares to the ribeye in my opinion. Absolutely love this place!

The first thing I did when coming to Tucson is find out where to get a real Chicago dog---Lukes is awesome. as a native Chicagoan, I love looking at the Cubbie and Chicago memorabilia

As a Chicago native, I was looking forward to giving this a try. I was raised on italian beef sandwiches back home and the thought of getting it here in Tucson was very appealing to me. To put it bluntly, I am never returning. I have three major sticking points regarding this dump of a restaurant: 1. The place is ugly and dirty. It has the appearance that it was built in 1995 and hasn't been touched since. The ceiling tiles have water damage. There's a puny television tucked near the ceiling that only an eagle could watch. The paint is peeling in spots. All the tables are sticky. When you place an order, you can see the kitchen, which itself looks dirty. The place has flies. 2. My order of two 6" italian beef sandwiches, one large fry and two drinks cost over $20! That's robbery. The nicest italian beef shops in Chicago don't charge that much. They even have a sign on their soda fountain warning customers that they charge for refills. 3. The food itself is mediocre at best, and way worse than every italian beef joint I've been to in Chicago. Considering what I paid, the food needed to knock my socks off. Knowing how dirty they keep the place, I have to wonder if I'm going to get food poising soon.

It's been a while since I've been to Luke's / Kenny D's but I always loved their combo (Italian beef and sausage) and Chicago dogs. Love their fries as well. Sure, it's dirty and dingy, but who cares, you go to Luke's for the food, not the ambiance.
(4)Bret H.
Best damn sandwich ever. Italian beef with hot peppers and cheese!! Fries are brilliant. They must use real lard when they fry these. A four inch is really six inches... Beware!!!!
(5)Eclectic E.
Giardiniera could be a bit spicier (needed more hot peppers), but bread and beef were quite tasty. Amazing to find multiple Italian beef places in Tucson. Worth another visit (and I won't ask for it wet next time).
(3)Misha B.
This the best wet sandwich in town.. I get the italian beef with cheese and hot peppers and fries. Bomb always a greasy delight.. The dogs are good as well. Get the special ten bucks worth of hot dogs and fries.

If they were half as good at the Grant location as they are at Stone/Ft. Lowell this Luke's would have been given more stars, but the reality is they're not nearly as efficient or helpful at this location. I am from Chicago and love the food, so I keep coming back. There has always been a wait for my call in orders. I work more than 10 minutes away, and only have a 30 minute lunch break, so if I get stuck waiting at Luke's for 20 minutes, there is an issue for me! Think that'll make me want to come back?! It won't. Get your act together Luke's on Grant! You could be as good as the Stone or Thornydale location someday!

Must preface this with I lived in Chicago for 26 years so I know when it's right. Went in today for my first try with a family member who warned ahead of time that their service isn't great. While the hot dog bun is authentic with the poppy seeds; it was not steamed before being served, I think it may actually have been microwaved because part of the bun was hard. The moment I picked up my hot dog, the back of the bun split open making for a very messy eating experience. It was topped correctly and the hot dog itself tasted good. The fries were also good, but crinkle cut are not authentic. I saw the pizza puff on the menu and was told they do get them from Chicago so had to try it. It was just okay, think it may have been freezer burned as it didn't cook properly; was excessively puffed on one side and dough not cooked through. That's the overall gist of the experience; just okay. (Not sure why, but the location had a funky smell inside. Noticed it upon arriving and how fresh the outside air was after leaving when we finished eating there.) Don't think I'll become a regular, at least not this location.

I gave Luke's 4 stars because they have by far the best Chicago Dog in Southern Arizona. It's cheap and fast. I usually will go with the Chicago Dog combo with comes with the dog, tasty fries, and a soda.
(4)Mo E.
This was by far the worst turkey sandwich ive ever had in my life. The cheese was disguisting the bread was impsosible to bite into and it tasted terrible. If you're gonna charge 8 dollars for a sandwich make sure it is at least edible and worth half the money you charge for it.

We have eaten at the Luke's on Fort Lowell Road in Tucson many times in the last 12 or 15 years and have always had excellent service and food. We publish a 15,000 circulation RV newspaper called the Gypsy Journal and have recommended Luke's many times to our subscribers. We also recommend it in one of the guidebooks we publish, Favorite Restaurants RVers Will Love. However, we had a very bad experience at the Luke's located at 4444 E. Grant Road in Tucson. We stopped in with a relative, and my 62 year old wife needed to use the bathroom very badly. I asked the young man at the counter where the bathroom was and he said it was for customers only. I told him that we were customers and I was getting ready to order, but she was desperate. He shook his head and said, "Not until you pay for something." By now my wife was starting to cry and I repeated that we were customers and all three of us planned to eat there. Again he refused to allow her to use the restroom until after we ordered and paid. He said it was the manager's rule and indicated another young man there was the manager. That person also said she could not use the bathroom until we spent money and both of them acted like we were street people asking for a handout, not senior citizens and long time customers. We left and went to the nearest restaurant, where my very humiliated wife cleaned herself up because by then it was too late. We will never again eat at Luke's and I will make it a point to tell all of our readers just how rude and inconsiderate these employees were.

I come here often for lunch and I never leave disappointed. the prices are decent, the food is always fresh, I never leave hungry, and the staff is always very friendly to me. I personally love the meatball sub when I go there, but their burgers and other sandwiches are top notch as well. All in all it is an awesome place for lunch that I would highly recommend.
(5)Bryan B.
This is the BEST! Italian beef EVER. I love coming to Tucson just so I can have their sandwich. You've got to go with the hot peppers/veggies and cheese. Awesome! Only four stars because of ambiance, but maybe that makes it good too.

I have been a fan of Luke's for years, especially of the true Chicago hot dog (though it's been a mystery to me why you have to ask for celery salt, even if you order it "with everything." How can it be a real Chicago dog without celery salt??) Anyway, the Luke's on Grant still serves the same great dog, but there has been a disappointing change of management. I used to love to go in and get my dog, and just shoot the breeze with the friendly staff. I've been there twice since the new management, and have been treated rudely by a woman there who doesn't seem to know the meaning of customer service. I believe she's the new manager. She is abrupt, rude to other customers, and seems to have no joy in what she is doing. While the decor has been upgraded somewhat, I'm going to start going to the other Luke's restaurants, to get that great Chicago dog, but without the bad attitude.
(2)Ryan J.
Tried Luke's today on Grant. Not all that good. The Italian beef's bread was tough to bite into and I had to jerk it away after biting into it. Not impressed with the fries at all. I could have bought them from a store's frozen section. I would much rather have Bubby's Chicago Style on Coachline Blvd in Continental Ranch! Much better all around.

Needed a calorie boost after our 5 mile hike in Ventana Canyon. The almonds and water I brought would not suffice. What better place to get those calories than Luke's? Alls I gotsta say is hot damn! This spot is better than the one on Alvernon. I had the cheesesteak special: cheesesteak (w/ provolone, mush., onions, and bell peppers) supah awesome fries and a pink lemonade. Everything melded poifectly. The roll was grilled poifectly. The amount of mayo was poifect, and the ratio of beef to other stuff was poifect! Caloric intake for the day reached, and food comma initiated.

So, got to experience Luke's for the first time...and I have to say it was okay. No better, no worse, just ok. The food was decent. I had the spicy dogs which definitely were spicy and the onion rings. Quite honestly, the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. Luckily our group got takeout because I didn't want to stay and eat there. The place is dingy and run down and looks like it's in desperate need of an upgrade. However, the food is decent, like I said. Plus, you get quite a bit of food for your money, so I can't complain about that. I'll probably go back to get a dog or two when I'm in the mood, but I definitely won't be eating in.
(3)Baron R.
I love the food at Luke's and would recommend both steak (rib eye) sandwich or the Chicago dogs. However, cleanliness leaves much to be desired.
(3)Surranna V.
So I was totally PMS'ING and wanted an all beef dog with kraut and mustard. It was really good I just wanted a COSTCO sized dog. The fries were great. I will be back but I will order two dogs and I will also try other delicious grease filled items on the menu. I will get it to go because the place is really dirty and well it grossed me out. Good PMS food TO GO!
(3)Marsha W.
Fair food but a dirty restaurant, Wet spilled drinks on floor, flies, greasy tables and an outside access restroom.Slow service and a sleazy clientele. Not my idea of fun!!!
(2)Mark A.
Five stars for: the Italian Beef sandwich with sweet peppers and provolone with a side of fries. This sandwich is without peer in Tucson in terms of sheer size and flavor: it is unbelievably good. The big crinkle-cut fries are also peerless in the face of local competition. Honestly I can't vouch for anything else here but I've never felt the need to branch out.
(5)Mike E.
Best Chicago style Italian beef sandwich in Tucson. Several locations, careful which one you go to, not all are owned by the same family.
(5)Tiffany T.
hot dogs! when craving hot dogs this will be your favorite place.
(4)Michael C.
I can't rate the food because the service was terrible. It took them almost 10 minutes to take order, which is bad because order taking works like a fast food place. Then almost 15 more minutes to get my hot dog. How long does it take to make a freakin' dog? Then it wasn't what I ordered. I imediatly complained and the order taker got an attitude like it was my fault. He took the food back to the kitchen. and said to the cook that I didn't order it. The whole resturaunt could hear him cussing me out and calling me a liar. I was offended but I didn't really say much. I did, how ever tell the casher to tell the loudmouthed cook to quit bitching. Then he got really pissed, told me to stop swearing in his resturaunt. And gave me my money back. Well, at least most of it. He got the amount wrong. I asked him if he was serious, kicking ME out because I said Bitch, but it was ok for his loser cook to use the f word and other colorful terms. He said he was the owner and could do anything he wants. I know that was a lie because I was only IN the resturaunt because the owners wife or girlfriend who ever she was to him, invited me to come in. These jerks no nothing about customer service or profesionalism.
