This is my go-to sushi place. Family owned and operated. The same people wait on you and make tour food wvery time. We are regulars. The food is the best I've had. Admittedly I am nit a sushi connesieur but if I go anywhere else I'm generally not impressed. Go here for the food and the quiet, unpretentious atmosphere. There's nothing fancy about the decor, abd there's always baseball on the TV (the sushi chefs are big fans). This place is seldom packed and the food is great. They have a lot of regular customers like us.

Very decent sushi at very reasonable prices! The rolls were delicious and pretty (see pic), the tea was hot, the miso soup was tasty but just barely warm. Average roll price was $7.50.
(4)Sharon H.
Great selection of specialty rolls! May be our new go to spot for those! They give free miso soup before the meal. Clean interior, great service, good prices, and serve beer/wine/sake.
(4)Matthew H.
Kampai is by far my favorite sushi place in Tucson. The food is always incredibly fresh, consistent, and service is top-notch as well. Best of all, the prices are quite reasonable considering the superior quality sushi they serve.
(5)A. W.
Best sushi place in Tucson that no one knows about. Fresh food. Fast, and excellent service. Highly recommended!
(5)Stacy A.
This place is amazing. We've been coming here for 7 years. The food is quick, consistently very fresh and tasty, and for a regular like me, they remember exactly how I like things (rolls with no masago, etc.). Owned by a hard-working Korean family. I'm always amazed that Sushi on Oracle is always packed when this place is right across the street. It's way better, way cheaper, and you don't feel like you're packed in there like sardines! Get the Kampai roll. You'll be obsessed.
(5)Jinny H.
Kampai is one of my favorite places to go for sushi - the service is prompt and the food is great. They have a variety of food options, which I like. The fact that it's a family-run restaurant makes this place even better!
(5)Chivona C.
I was skeptical to try this place at first, since I have never seen anyone walk inside and the windows are reflective. I actually used this Yelp app to decide if I should try it. I'm glad I tried it! I would put this sushi in my top 10% in Tucson. I ordered the Rock and Roll roll and it was extremely tasty. The ingredients melted in my mouth. Service was extremely fast and very friendly. I would definitely go back!
(4)Rob B.
Great place. Not fancy decor or service; plastic not china plates. Instead, the focus is on top-quality food. We've tried sushi in many cities and countries. This is top rank. Give it a try.

Walking into this sushi restaurant the first thing I noticed was carpeting... yes carpeting. Carpeting in a restaurant. It's a big strike in my book because it's hard to keep clean and even when it is kept clean it just looks wrong. Ambiance aside, the menu was a bit lengthy and overwhelming and many of the rolls seem to be very subtle variations on each other. Once I finally picked out my rolls I was happy with the overall selection. Kampai is not my favorite choice but I think this restaurant would be a good option for the family who has sushi lovers and people who would prefer other options. I'm noticing now that many of the reviews state that their Korean food is better and perhaps I will be back to try that again and possibly increase the number of stars in my review.

This is my favorite sushi place in Tucson. The food is great and always seems to come at lightning speed. While the presentation isn't fantastic, it reminds me of my favorite neighborhood sushi back in NYC. Not on par with the best, but definitely a good basic place for casual weekly sushi.
(5)Erik Frost ..
Always fresh, always fast, and always cheap. Nice interior with two large flatscreen TV's showing sports. Miso is extremely hot so beware! The tables are always clean and the staff are friendly. This used to be "I Love Sushi" before, but way back 4 years ago, it closed down and Kampai moved in and renovated it. Now it's more modern and doesn't feel like you're stuck in the past or anything.
(5)Mark H.
I wanted to post an update as Kampai Sushi continues to be amazing. If you are looking for the highest quality and freshest ingredients, this is the place. Kampai Sushi consistently has the freshest and best fish. Try the oysters if you are an oyster lover. The raw oysters and the fried oysters are fantastic. The Uni is truly amazing. Love this place!
(5)Mark G.
My wife and I have been living in Tucson, AZ for the last several years. Moving from San Diego we were in an urgent status to find a Sushi spot that was comparable to what we had grown accustomed to in SD. I've been to several other spots in the Tucson / Oro Valley area and Kampai is unmatched in the freshness of their fish as well as the great customer service they provide. Occasionally we will try a different spot but, as far as I'm concerned, Kampai is TOPS in Tucson.
(5)Kathy B.
The best Korean food I've had across the state. The place is clean and nice, not loud at all, so you can quietly enjoy the food and chat with families and friends of course. Everyone is polite and friendly. The food is awesome: so fresh, warm, and rich in both quality and quantity! We had bibimbap (traditional Korean dish mixed with beef, all sorts of vege, egg, rice, and really nice homemade source), chajang myun (noodle with pork and black bean source), seafood pancake. Each single bit is delicious, way more than expected. I would say it is much better than what we had at Takamatsu, which is also a good Korean and Japanese restaurant. Just this one is even better. The lady sat next had sushi plate, looks great too and she definitely enjoyed it! Certainly will go there again:-)
(5)Kenneth M.
If you want sushi in Tucson you have to come here. The staff is friendly, quick, and attentive. The food is delicious, fresh, and totally worth every penny. Don't let the "all-you-can-eat" places fool you, that food is garbage compared to this place. Kampai's portions are generous and in addition to the great nigiri and rolls they have the best squid salad and mussels. I will now only come here for sushi if I can help it.
(5)Tina M.
Their Korean menu is actually pretty good than what we expected, especially the Bi Bim Bap and the Korean fried rice. The Sashimi is fresh and cut. The sushi rolls are just about the right size. The only thing that's a little weird is their "1 piece" sushi. I ordered a spicy scallop and the price is $2.14 for just 1 piece. Now, that's a little expensive, although they try to make it a tiny bit bigger than other restaurants do. But still, $2.14 for just 1 piece, that's expensive. So, either order the whole roll or don't at all! I'm still giving it a 5-star, coz the food was actually good and we had a good experience!

My 100th Yelp Review! I saved it for one of my favorite places... I have been coming to Kampai for over 10 years! And that was before they moved to the North side! I love that it is a family owned business. I always receive great customer service. :) I think their sushi is probably one of the best in Tucson. My other fave is Sushi Yukari, but there are a few other places I need to try. Although I tend to like traditional, they have some great fusion items. Sure, you're not at Nobu, but it's still good. And much easier on the wallet! :) Anyway, my favorites are both the raw and baked scallops, sake salmon, tamago, dynamite, spicy yellowtail roll, spicy salmon roll, baked scallop roll, and asparagus roll (I know, weird, right?!) My favorite appetizers are probably their Kabocha (Pumpkin-like Squash) Tempura, and their soft shell crab. I also love some of the Korean items they offer on their menu, such as the Hwedubop (sashimi salad w/ mixed greens, sashimi, seaweed & squid salad, raw quail egg, fish roe, served with a side of steamed white rice and spicy sauce). I also like their spicy pork (tejii bulgogi). I'm not sure if they still make the following items, but they have offered them at various times during the past 10 years...I loved their Champpong (spicy seafood noodle soup). It isn't super oily like at other places. Perfect for a cool winter night. I also liked their jjol myun (sorry, my Konglish is kinda rusty), which is a type of spicy cold noodle dish. I also enjoy their lunch specials...and at $5.95 for a 1 item, or $9.95 for a 2 item combo, you can't beat that! You choose from a list of items. I usually get either the Spicy Pork (tejii bulgogi), or Beef (bulgogi), or tuna & avocado roll. The lunch specials are served bento style and include a small salad w/ the typical sushi restaurant dressing, a side of steamed rice, miso soup, and a half of an orange. I was just there the other day, but I can't wait to go back! :)
(5)Kelsey P.
Very pleased! Went on a Saturday night and the place was dead, never heard of the place, just found it on here! The sushi was great!
(4)Maynard G.
Chirashi. I think it was $18. Fish good enough, but not very artfully prepared and contained cheap fillers, lots of shredded daikon, and spiced seaweed and especially cucumber. If you want great chirashi go north about 90 miles to Sushi Ken (which was at one time the real Sushi Ten in Tucson) in Awataukee, south of Phoenix. I don't know of any good sushi places in Tucson. 2 1/2 rounded up to 3.
(3)Katieface R.
Terrible service!!! We went at a pretty slow time and it took forever for anyone to ask us what kind of drinks we wanted. Then we didn't get a refill after trying to hunt our waitress down for 10mins. The food was okay. Definitely would not recommend.
(1)Jenny K.
They have weird hours open for lunch for few hours closes and opens again for dinner I hate restaurants like this never tried the food only rating on their business hours
(2)Steven R.
you might never guess it, but... The sashimi is wonderfully fresh and the maki are inventive and delicious! You also can't beat the bento boxes for a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Everything on the menu is delightful, but Kampai really excels at the spicy rolls. They offer spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, spicy crab and spicy scallop rolls. The spicy tuna salad is my favorite meal there. I would fly to Tucson exclusively to eat at Kampai!

Unfortunately, Kampai no longer serves traditional Korean dishes like Kimchi Chigae or Bi Bim Bap. Although most of the staff (and presumably the owners) are of Korean descent, they've decided to serve mostly Japanese fare, with poor results. The sushi and rolls smell and taste fishy, the avocado slices on our meals had black spots, and the miso soup and edamame were fair to middling. I wish they'd return to their Korean roots, because their attempt at Japanese food isn't working.

Excellent sushi. Very fresh, and larger portions than most sushi bars. Sometimes you even get free samples. The Kirin Ishiban is nice and COLD!
(4)John B.
.We have many sushi choices in Tucson but this place also offers other Japanese menu items. I had the Spicy tuna roll and a side of dumplings. good service, and delicious food.
(4)Aida H.
So delicious!!! Seriously more people need to know about this gem! I could eat these three rolls everyday: rock & roll / spicy tuna with crunch / deep fried Cali!!!! Sooooo bomb! And they give out free miso soup :)))))
