Good simple Mexican food. Awesome Raspados. And I think they have the one of the best Sonora style dogs in Tucson. Tostadas area great a little greasy they like the butter but it's good. Worth checking out.

Such yummy bacon breakfast burritos! Great salsa bar - love the two green varieties - one guacamole-like; the other with lots of garlic flavor!

I echo another reviewer in that now I don't have to drive to the south side for GREAT carne asada. I've noticed that most of the taco joints here serve carne asada that's not seasoned or grilled at all, just tough little gray nuggets. This is perfectly seasoned with like salt which brings out the flavor of the meat (or any food) but it's not salty. Raspados are awesome as well. Hard shell tacos are a great little crunchy (junky, in a good way) snack. Sonaran dogs, tacos, tortas and burritos are all good too. Husband and I have been making our way through the menu and so far have not been disappointed. Unrelated side note: Since I'm new to this town I use Yelp a lot and I've noticed that literally almost every restaurant review in Tucson averages 3.5 stars. It's really a divisive little food town. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) that leaves the husband and I no choice but to bravely sample the cuisine to decide for ourselves.

Everything was fine until the microwave. Let's start from the beginning. Things were fine when I walked inside. I noticed the very clean salsa bar that is very protected from germs and sneezing. The guy working the counter was young and friendly. It did not smell in there and the menu looked pretty appetizing. I decided on the enchilada combo with extra beans and guacamole. I looked on excitedly to see my food being made. It was off to a great start as it began where every fast food Mexican place begins making the food. Then, all of a sudden, in it went into the microwave. It wasn't even hidden. I noticed it when I walked in but thought it could not possibly be used. I was wrong. As orders were going through the window after mine, I saw the same thing. Items going into the microwave. Oh, that horror! The microwave-prepared food leads me to the taste. It was average. I did not even have to see it go through the microwave to know that it came from one. It wasn't bad, but definitely not great. The guacamole wasn't really guacamole. It was cold. The whole pins were decent. Perhaps this place is a go-to for Raspados and Hot Dogs. If you wanted your food to at least taste fresh and non-microwaved, there's a number of fast food Mexican in the vicinity that are better.

I was in a rush in the morning, so rather than waiting at Nico's across the street for my sausage breakfast burrito I came to Jason's. Considering I was the only one there they were slower than they should have been. The price is about the same as Nico's. The burrito was almost as good as Nico's. The salsa had a better heat to it than Nico's. That all being said I would definitely go back again.

This place has amazing food. A little slow on the service but it's because they are making everything. I come here all the time now.

Jason's Mexican Food doesn't look like much, being located in the shell of a former Sonic (and Kenny D's). Their only seating is outdoors and it looks like standard Mexican street food. That's what I get for judging a book by its cover. The menu is pretty straight-forward and while everything looked really good, I settled on a Sonoran hot dog and a carne asada taco. The food came up quickly, and it looked pretty awesome. I'll admit that sitting outside is never my first choice, but the weather is nice this time of year and it worked out pretty well. I think if it were summer, I would take the food to-go. I ate the Sonoran hot dog first, and it was one of the best I've had. The bun wasn't as chewy as some others, and the mustard and mayonnaise were in such abundance that they dripped from the bun. But the hot dog was cooked perfectly, and the bacon was just right. And the wax pepper on the side was also wrapped in bacon, like a special savory/spicy treat. The carne asada taco was good, too. I should probably have grabbed some salsa for it from the salsa bar, but I didn't think of it. The rice and beans on the side were ok, if not anything special. All in all, I thought Jason's was a pleasant surprise and it's nice to have good Mexican street food in this part of town. I would definitely go back for another Sonoran hot dog, and perhaps to try more of their menu.

I am a young woman who loves a fast lunch. This food is delicious. I have eaten at other Mexican fast food and this is by far the best I have ordered from. Love them!

CHOOSE NICOS INSTEAD. I thought the prices were reasonable and decided to give it a try. Not only did the drive thru attendant charge me extra, but it wasn't even what I asked for. The portions were exceeding skimpy (even the small soda I didn't ask for) charging me $10. He failed to give me a receipt when I asked for one, trying to find out what he was ringing me up for. The carne asada was so fatty and hard to chew, and the small side of rice and beans were cold! GROSS. I had to wait a while with NO ONE ELSE THERE. The service and food lacks. I won't ever return. Save your self and go across the street to Nicos.

Finally! I don't have to drive all the way to the south side for some good carne asada. I got the family special (I believe it's only offered Sundays) that comes with carne asada, beans, rice, grilled jalapeños, and onions. Honestly, the best tacos, and beans I've had around this area, by far. The prices aren't bad, and the service is great. Definitely a fan!

My boyfriend and I were huge fans of this place, then for two weeks straight the short guy was rude and the girl too. One thing I love is the hot sauce and they ALWAYS sell it to me, but one time the guy threw a fit, pissed me off. Then my bf goes and wants fruit salad.... Well asking if he can get it fresh because the last 2 times the fruit was bad.... All of it!! The girl was rude and upset... They take a long time as it is to give your food, which is fine for us. But the attitude mi amigos!!! HAS to FREAKING GOOOOOOO!

If I am correct, this place is affiliated with the food cart you will find parked on 22nd St. Maybe so, but the prices seem higher than I remember paying at the mobile venue. I guess the whole overhead thing makes that necessary. I did not try the snacks that Rich speaks of. Had I read his review before I went I would have likely tried either one (maybe both) of the unpronouncables he mentioned. What I did try: Sonoran Dog - what I remembered that set their Sonoran dog apart (assuming they are affiliated with the food cart) was the yellow pepper they serve with it. Wrapped in bacon, stuffed with cheese and deep fried. I had talked it up to my buddy but when he got his dog, it was MIA. He asked me with a sad look on his face, "Where's the chile?" When I got my dog; same thing, no pepper. So I asked. The guy headed over to the fryer basket that had just come from the oil and pulled out two. My first notion was not to tell my buddy and keep them both for myself. Nah.. you never come between a man and his freshly fried pepper wrapped in pork product! Caramelo - Mexican cheese and carne asada stuffed between two flour tortillas and tossed on the grill. The Sonoran dog was fine. My buddy commented that it's better than EGC. But, again, the star was that pepper. Too bad we had to beg for them. I wonder how many people missed out because they didn't know they were supposed to get them. The caramelo was kind of bland, as were the salsas. I also got a couple of pieces of gristle. That's a little irritating to me. The fact that is was small, there wasn't much meat in it anyway and it was four bucks didn't help either. I'll probably go back and try the drive through, which was pretty busy on our lunch visit, but I doubt I will order carne asada again and definitely make sure I get that pepper!

Came back to Jason's and it did not disappoint. Great carne asada. Nice 'fixins' bar. Definitely recommend

Big tasty burritos. Great flour tortillas. Rest of the menu looks good. I'll be back to verify.

I am a big fan of this place. I highly recommend the Sunday Special: 2 lbs. of carne asada with grilled onions and jalapenos, rice, beans, the best flour tortillas I have ever had and a 2 liter for 18 bucks. The beef is not fatty and has great flavor. The tortillas a super thin and delicious. Everyday of the week, they have a different special meal deal. Off hand I know that Monday is BOGO breakfast burritos, but I have not tried them. I am totally hooked on their drink the El Nino. It is super bizarre to my palate but in a great way. And I just love the candies on top. I find myself wishing for an El Nino almost on the daily. I find it nice that they offer a drive through. If you want to dine there, you place your order inside, stock up on the salsa bar and sit outdoors. Their menu is really nice. It actually has descriptions of the Mexican street snacks and raspados. I can't wait to try more. I have always wondered what the street snacks consist of, so I have held back on ordering at other places...but this place gave me training wheels and I am ready to take a spin!

If you're in the northeast part of town and don't feel like driving all the way down south to the barrio for elote, go to Jason's. If you want Mexican street food snacks like Tostilocos, Pepihuate, or Raspados, go to Jason's. If you want fast Mexican fare like the other places have but made with more of a street food vibe, go to Jason's. I think the big hits here are their snacks, which take up half the menu. They're very Sonoran (Hermosillo) and really have that authentic flair. You're not likely to find these snacks outside of this region so while you're here, you might as well educate yourself on the delicious little bites of Mexico. Rich's recommendation: elote and Tostilocos. If for nothing else, you can have fun saying the names.

I tried the Burrito truck on 22nd before they opened up this establishment it's right by my barbershop and I get the breakfast burritos all the time I feel like it's way better than Nico's I recommend it

Very happy with what I have tried here. Their sonoran dogs are pretty good and for $3 even better. Their prices are fair and I will be coming to eat here more and more now that I have tried it.

Tried their Sonoran style Hotdog today, OMG to die for good! Glad to have tried it! Had one off a ROACH COACH on Grant kinda close to I 10 over a month ago and it was nothing! Cheapie little boiled hotdog an flavorless! Jason's on the other had was like having Fillet Mignon! Keep up the good food Jason's! Will be coming back often! Well worth the wait for hot fresh made food!

Disclaimer: I have not had their food. I tried to get some yesterday but they appeared to be closed at around 4pm. The open sign was not lit up and there were NO cars parked outside. Since I don't have a very long lunch break I decided to drive away but I will go back to try again. Any who, what I have tried are their raspados and they are yummy. They will cool you down much better than ice cream ever could, I guarantee it. If you try their vanilla or strawberry flavored raspados, ask for lechera (sweetened condensed milk). It completely changes the flavor.

The Macedonia ice cream dessert is huge and is to die for. The carne asana in the burritos is incredibly well seasoned. The Jason burrito is really good with tons of meat. I love the yellow chili poppers that come with the Sonoran dog. (Spicy). The Sonoran dog is an excellent value and tastes great. They use really good tortillas. This is our go to place on Sundays. We usually get our food to go, for some reason it super windy on that corner which makes sitting outside uncomfortable. The restaurant doesn't have indoor seating so in my opinion it's really mostly a drive-through for takeout. The jalapeno poppers only come with the Sonoran dog and if you want to buy them individually they're a dollar each which I think is a bit pricey but I buy them anyway because they're so good.

Ever since Jason's popped up in my neighborhood I've been wanting to give it a try, and today I did just that. It's located inside of the old sonic on wrightstown and pantano, so there is plenty of parking and outdoor seating. The menu is huge, and the raspado/frozen drinks menu leaves a lot to be desired. Today I tried the El Niño, and while I wouldn't order it again, it screamed chile, lime and tamirindo (just like the description). There was also delightful little Mexican candies on the top. To eat, I just went with the beef tacos which came with a scrumptious little side of guacamole. Mmmmmm! This place is def worth trying, and I can't wait to come back and sample another raspado :)

  • Ryan H.

Highly recommend. Cheap, convenient, and food quality that far exceeds the price point. Sonoran hot dogs are tasty, and the Barria (sp?)and carne asada tacos were great. I haven't tried the corn tortillas, but the flour tortillas really made the tacos. Check this place out-puts the taco shop across the street to shame.

  • Jonathan K.

Like their taco truck on 22nd, the food is mediocre and overpriced. But unlike 22nd theres no competition other than a nico's. My group tried just about everything: carne and chicken burritos, tacos, etc. All meh. The raspado was a solid chunk of solid ice . Fail.

  • Michelle E.

Enchiladas, tacos, beans, and rice are all bland, dry, and comparable to a microwave dinner. The raspados are pretty good if you''re looking for dessert or something to cool off with besides ice cream. The drive thru staff aren't friendly at all. Ranch Rustico on Tanque Verde is WAY better-- or El Potosino on Speedway is a much better drive-thru option.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
