Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I got the green chile carne asade chimichanga!! AMAZING! The other reviews were old so maybe they have changed their menu? However a friend of mine got nachos and the cheese was not cheddar cheese nor was it Velveeta. It tasted cheap like cheddar cheese soup from a can..bleh! But other than that my food, the chips and salsa, and the drinks were fantastic! Excellent service as well!

Good Mexican food. We had the Chimichangas with chicken and barbacoa (shredded roast beef). Both were quite good. The salsa is ok, based on oregano, chili's, tomato sauce and onion. Most meals are around $10. Service was excellant. When asked what their barbacoa tasted like, they went to the kitchen and brought back a sample.

Oh, barbecue beef burrito, you are the incarnation of Disappointment. Your icky-sweet Heinz barbecue sauce was a suitable companion for your leathery roast beef, if not for civilized company. You are one of the few burritos I have eaten that should have come wrapped in an apology instead of a tortilla. I was hoping for barbacoa, not for a shoddy impersonation of Texas brisket shrouded in chalky flour. On the positive side, the chips and horchata were fine. I can't speak for anything else on the menu and I plan on keeping it that way.

Guillermo's! No comprendo! You never used to be great, but today you were pretty rough around the edges. Let me preface this review by saying that I am fully aware that Guillermo's is not the quintessential Mexican eatery in Tucson. But after a few hours of running errands today, I was famished, it was close, and I thought I'd give it a try. The food has never been stellar, but it's passable. The service has never been 5 star, but I feel servers there sort of want to be there. With that said, 5 reasons why I'll probably not be back. 1. I sat for eleven minutes before somebody came over to offer me water, chips and salsa. Too many minutos in my libro. 2. The food was bland and flavorless. Much different than what I'm used to there. 3. My server dropped off food and disappeared never to be found again. 4. No wait she came back ten minutes later to drop off a pitcher of water, I guess I looked like someone who was going to drink a lot of water and refills were beyond her scope of service. 5. The thing that puts me over the edge? I went up to pay, and the cashier said, "How was everything today?" I said, "To be honest, just alright." Her response? "Great $8.69 please." Really? I just told you, in not so many words, that I wasn't impressed. Care to ask why? I guess not. That's ok, I've got this awesome resource for reviewing great (and not so great) local businesses in Tucson. Check it out cashier at Guillermo's, you might learn something.

We hit Guillermo's late on a Wednesday night after a Little League baseball game. We overan the place with about 40 people and overwhelmed them. Service was a bit slow, but again, we were 40 people without reservations. I had the shrimp tacos. They were pretty good, though different than I expected. Good meet inside. I love the atmosphere here. Classic Mexican food restaurant.
(4)Michael L.
The refried beans and rice were not good. How do you get that wrong? The beef burrito was good and the chile rellano was just okay. The service was really good.

Honestly, I made the venture to the south side to go to Mi Nidito. There, confession made. It was my birthday and I was ready to order one of everything on the menu. Their Sonoran enchiladas being the stuff dreams are made of. Then as we drove up and saw the parking lot empty, our hearts sank. After sitting in the parking lot watching at least ten groups do the same thing, and reluctantly head to Double L's, we decided, what the heck. Started with the joke of walking in and asking where a good Mexican restaurant was, but decided not a good idea. We ordered a cheese crisp which was great! It was light buttery and had a strip of flavorful green chili down each slice. Then I ordered a double margarita...it tasted plasticky (very odd) so I switched to beer. Some dishes are authentic, but in my family a chimichanga is white Mexican food. The Sonoran enchiladas were good, as was the chili. The "salsa" tasted like doctored ketchup (blech). The green corn tamale wasn't as moist as could be, sparse on the chili, and the chile relleno was just okay. All in all it was an enjoyable meal, and the staff friendly, but there's no doubt they make their money from Mi Nidito stragglers. Would go again...if Mi Nidito was closed.

I'm somewhat surprised by the bad reviews for this restaurant. First off, I love its location in South Tucson and I find the decor very colorful and fun....always clean and tidy. All the servers we've had have been quick and friendly. We've taken friends there and several have ordered the barbachoa and really enjoyed it...though it's a bit spicy for some. The topopo salad is a winner and at least 1 friend has pronounced it the best in Tucson. The chicken burritos are tasty, and the cheese enchiladas and bean tostadas are all delicious....though I wish the food would be hotter temperature-wise. It may not be the best in South Tucson, but it's good enough to keep drawing us back for their tasty lunches.

The big line outside Mi Nidito should have been the first clue that Guillermo's was sub-par. We were with the grandparents so we had no choice. Guillermo's looks like a place for white people who don't know good Mexican food. If it was just wifey and me we would be at Mi Nidito. I just went with a carne asada burrito to play it safe; it was mediocre. There's a reason the place across the street has a line and Guillermo's sat us immediately next to the other 4 white couples who don't know authentic Mexican.
(2)Tyler S.
If your looking for real Mexican food this is NOT the place. Yes they do serve Mexican fare but in no way at all is this food authentic. One sign of a bad Mexican restaurant is by the lack of Mexican patrons. Its full of gringos! The salsa is watered down tomato and green onion garbage, absolutely no spice. The rest of the meal was so bland I had to drench it in hot sauce. The soup was pretty good, but what Mexican joint can screw up a bowl of albondigas? I went on a lunch rush and the service was a little stretched out. That was to be expected. If you want some good Mexican go across the street to Mi Nidito!
(1)William B.
My latest visit was an improvement. The bean chimichanga was almost perfect, didn't even need a knife to cut. Beans were delicious and slightly spicy. It was just wonderful. I know it's not your traditional Mexican meal but I was eating light. The chips were warm and out of the oven and the salsa very hot. The wait staff was very helpful and gave me and my co-worker a pitcher of ice tea and refilled water and checked in on us. It came out to a reasonable $10 including tip. Pretty good deal. I am willing to give them more chances now. It does look like the prices went up for most of the meals, and some of the items are just wait too expensive. I would have liked more ice with the ice tea- it ran out after the first glass.
(3)Patrick H.
If you are from Tucson, don't ever eat here. Very weak Mexican food for Tucson. This place is probably amazing if your from Maine, Wisconsin, Wyoming, etc (you get the point). My food was bland and plain. They are not even making their own taco shells, as they are definitely store bought, lol. If you like real Mexican food, don't go through the same shameful experience I did. I am embarrassed, as a Tucsonan, that I ate here.

This was a last minute try as the place across the street was packed and we had not counted on over an hour wait. Our bad for poor planning. We should have waited the hour or more for the place across the street. The fact that Guillermo's did not have a wait should have been the first clue that maybe we should have not wasted out time or money. The second maybe should have been the outdated decor, hey the early 1980's called and they want their mauve back. The chips were served in plastic blows with no presentation, the salsa tasted canned and had very little flavor. The service WAS HORRIBLE, the waitress was clearly have a bad day or life but was taking it out on the customers. We ordered menudo for a starter and got over slated water with hominy and tripe, there was no chili added - HORRIBLE, tasteless other than the salt. I ordered chicken mole, again, there was no flavor other than salt, there was no creativity or cultural influence or flavor/spice or creaminess of a great mole. One person in our group ordered chicken fajitas and received a sizzling plate of onions, peppers and very little meat, the fajitas were served with ONE tortilla and you had to ask if wanted another, which is a little annoying when the service is so bad. Two other people our group ordered burritos, one ordered a carne asada burrito, the carne asada was bland, almost dry and unseasoned, with the exception of too much salt. This person had ordered a carne asada burrito and received a carne asada plate. The other person had ordered a carne asada chimi-chonga but received a chimichanga burrito. When the errors were brought to the attention of the server she got really pissed off and said that is what had been ordered, when the matter was pressed she reluctantly took the order back and corrected the order. When we asked for a to-go box, the server brought the box and basically threw it over the customers shoulder into her sour cream. We were asked how it was when we paid the bill, told the host person our experience, they stated that they had other complaints about the server and comped $20.00 of the bill. It was a nice gesture, but if you know you have a problem server, maybe you should not have that working for you any longer. I would STRONGLY advise patronizing this restaurant. With as packed as the restaurant is across the street, Guillermo's could have a gold mine of a place with all the other flow if they would put their customers first. We will NEVER return to this place! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE-Did I say HORRIBLE?
(1)Ralph K.
We had a group of 30 there for lunch, the service was outstanding! Everyone really liked their food including me. I was so impressed that my entire family will be going back there in a week!
(5)Frederick C.
I've been eating here for nearly 40 years. The service is typically good (Arlyce is their best waitress). The food is usually good. This is a clean restaurant; this is important. I'm a big fan of their Gorditas; they go well with the "hot" salsa. Under the new ownership, some of the recipes have changed; these weren't for the better. The beans taste lardy.
(3)Brian H.
Yelp has given me good reason to try out some new restaurants and stop going to my favs. I was really en-route to try out Michas, but it was packed (for lunch!) and El Torrero was closed, so I thought I would give the place that lives in Mi Nidito's shadow a try. Decor was nice. Food: This gringo can make better Mexican! Service: below average. Uhhhhhhh where's my beer and the kids sodas? My daughter got a chile relleno and beef enchilada and said she loved it. My son had beans and rice and they were good. I thought I would try, a la carte, several things: shrimp ceviche- served at room temp(gross) and really tart. It was ok but the citrus drowned out everything in it and had to load it up with salt and hot sauce. The kids had their food soon after the ceviche, then I waited............and waited.................and waited...........then my white menudo, carne seca enchilada, and shredded beef taco came out all at the same time. Menudo was good, but the other two things.......huh? How about serving me the soup first? I felt like I just got served my own food in my kitchen! Not cool. The carne seca was boring and flavorless and the sauce was bland. The shredded beef was tender, but flavorless too. I guess the old saying goes: been there, done that. Never again.

Chile rellenos in the Tucson Area rated according to the Homeland Security Advisory System with three word descriptors. Guillermo's Double L: open since 1948? Green See photos.

THREE & 1/2 STARS. Enchiladas especially thrive in this place. Gorditas are good. Mole is a treat. Clean, comfortable. Definitely recommended.
(3)Amanda P.
This place has a decent selection on the menu, and seems pretty good if you want Mexican and someone else doesn't, as they have burgers and the such. The salsa was very good, perfectly spicy. However I wasn't wowed by my entree. The beef tacos were bland and the enchilada was just not enjoyable at all. But it's a decent place to go if you can't get into Mi Nidito.
(3)Linda S.
We are native Arizonans...my husband is Mexican American....we have both eaten authentic Mexican food almost from birth, and except for rough patch a while back, we have never had a bad meal at L & L. The new owners seemed to smooth out the rough patches. We liked the hot salsa best....we are used to appreciating the wide variety of home made salsas. Carne Seca is our favorite. Mi Nidito is great, but much pricier and always a line.....and smaller portions.
(4)Brooke R.
It's in the part of town where you would expect good Mexican food (and it can be found in this area, Pico de Gallo). But Guillermo's just does not make the cut. There menu consists of basic Mexican things (tacos, burritos) plus a small American section. They have fish tacos on the menu insert but the fish tacos do not have crema. How can you have a fish taco with no crema? Service is fast, seating is almost always immediate and the waitresses are very attentive. Butter seems to be the main ingredient in everything.

My friend and I went for lunch recently on a tuesday. We got there about 20 minutes before they opened and waited outside in the nice patio they have for waiting. This was probably the best part of the restaurant. When 11am finally arrived we headed to the door but to our surprise the doors where still locked, we waited 10 minutes when someone finally came to open the door, other people where waiting as well and they just walked in and started seating themselves. Here is where things got ugly: Us: Should we wait to be seated or seat ourselves? Lady/hostess: Well I'll seat you! but I don't understand why people are coming in if I haven't opened the doors yet! Us: Looking at each other like :WTF? Lady: Rushes to a table and plops the menu's down obviously upset still and walks away. The server came over, took our drink order, we had a pitcher of horchata, that was surprisingly good. When she came back she made some suggestions, we gave her our order, 3 tacos each. Shredded beef was ok, not bad but not the best. Rice and beans where not very good. Server was nice but she had her cell-phone on her and kept using right after she stepped away from our table. I thought that was rude, at least go to the bathroom and use it. Paid and left, wishing the place across the street was opened on tuesdays.

Okay food, stingy only gave us one tortilla for fajitas
(2)Steven L.
This was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Tucson, You could enjoy the darker cool ambience and good food, now they opened up skylights in the dining room area which took the cool cozy relaxing feel away, the temperature was also affected by the ingenious who decided to put skylights in dining room. It is bright and hot now, the food was horrible, and service was what you expect in Mc Donald's. The lack of a Bar was also inconvenient, if you want to wait one more hour of mediocre Mexican food, go across the street to Mi Nidito. I suggest Riggos on fourth ave, not the fanciest but great food.
(1)Brad R.
Great horchata. Crispy chimis but not much too the fillings. Rice a bit dry. Service very slow. But also the best option in South Tucson on Tuesday when my first chioce option was closed.

This place still sucks.
(1)Clark M.
This place has a really great ambiance. Nestled in the heart of 4th, where all the Mexican restaurants of any repute are located. The service is welcoming, the dining room is pleasant. I found the food a little better than middle-of-the-road. I don't believe the fare on the menu is authentic. It's more Mexican-American type cuisine. The picture menus are also kinda seedy. That aside, this place is worth it if you wanna have lunch or dinner and get your fill. The beer is good, and they always have specials on it.
(3)Wai W.
Service was friendly and attentive especially for our large group of 17 loud adults. Enough room to comfortably seat us without an issue. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Unfortunately the food was not as good as one would expect. Main reason why I gave them 3 stars was because of the staff, not the food. The salsa with the chips was more like tomato sauce and did not taste or even had chunks of tomato or onions. It was sweet but when we did mention that it was not spicy our server did get us one that had a kick. The guacamole was just tasteless and need seasoning. It tasted more like unseasonably potato salad but with avecado. I had the chicken and beef fajitas served the traditional way. One large tortilla which was enough but I asked for corn and it was corn. The chicken and beef were overcooked and dry. There was enough for a typical dinner. Overall the positives are space, service and price so you decide if that is enough for a visit.

I came in since I was heading to Mi Nidito across the street but they were closed for the holidays I presume. We were sat very promptly and served ice water, warm chips and salsa. Problem number one, the salsa that was served tomato sauce with chili pepper of some sort. Next we ordered our drinks at food at the same time. Me and my roommate ordered margaritas and our food. Problem number two, margaritas were brought and they tasted like airplane margaritas. I kept mine because I don't like to waste liquor and my roommate sent his back. The food arrived the same time we sent the drink back, the server then advised that he would bring a beer instead and silverware. Problem number 3, five minutes we sat staring at our food just able to pick at it. He brought the beer forgot the utensils. He did bring them back under a minute. We asked for more water and it was warm with no ice, really!? I tasted mine and I was done. The last problem and final straw. The beans was tasteless and had no flavor. My taco was on tortilla that look like, felt and tasted like it was just removed out of some luke warm package. I sent it back and they removed it off the bill. On the building it states that they be in business since 1940 something. I doubt the same cooks or management is still there. I feel so bad to leave a review like this but you have been warned.
(1)Christina L.
I'm going to go with a 3.25 on this one. I love the south side staple. Only discovered this place as most people do because Mi Nidito was closed oops! But hey it was worth going here instead. This is about my 5th time here and the food is yummy. The service leaves something to be desired. Some waitresses are great some are ok. Try the fish or shrimp tacos! The rice is great with the refried beans. Portions are good sized. Check this place out at least once. Faves: shrimp tacos and fish tacos
(3)Kami C.
It's a holiday we were thankful they were open until we tasted the salsa and food. The salsa is a pizza sauce (tomato sauce and a spice of some sort in it but nothing that should be labeled salsa by no means). The tacos barbacoa, carne seca and carne asada .....have no idea what they substitute but far from what the tradition is. I have never seen carne asada served with a load of pepper and a grey color to it. The Caldo de queso flavorless. The best thing was the tea and that depended on who served it one was great and the other had a raspberry taste to it. No question staff is friendly but the cooking is tasteless and terrible. Shame they are able to call themselves a Mexican restaurant. The food is so altered from what traditional Mexican food is it was a huge disappointment. This was the first and last time we venture here.
(1)K J.
If you are looking for authentic Mexican Food, then give this place a try. They have some of the best food in Tucson. The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is authentic. I love the stacked enchiladas, with an egg on top. The Green Chili is wonderful, and even though I'm not that much of a red chili fan, I do like theirs. As a native of AZ I've had Mexican food all over the state, and this is one of my favorite places.
(5)Louie W.
Tried to get in to Mi Niditos but due to the long wait we ended up here. It was pretty busy but we were seated immediately with chips and salsa on the table within seconds! Our server was friendly and very attentive (i took a sip of water and it was refilled). I had the chicken fajitas and they were phenomenal!! Definitely will be back for the margs too
(5)Don S.
We ovecame here as our other two favorites were closed today. Now we have three favorites while driving through Tucson! This is the first time we've been to this restaurant and found it delightful. Service and food were great. Prices were quite reasonable, with the exception of the sopapliias which were pricey and not all that good. I liked how everything is seasoned. El N id

I was invited to join a group of about 30 people who hold a monthly lunch here. After seeing some not-good reviews on Yelp, I had some reservations about what I would find. But, I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. Many restaurants have trouble with handling larger groups efficiently, but these guys had it down. There was one busboy who regularly came around, replenishing the free chips and salsa - we never had to ask for more. And, they were both good, the chips freshly warmed and the salsa nice and spicy, with many bits of fresh cilantro floating in there. Our waitress very efficiently took individual orders, served the food up flawlessly to this large group, and brought out our individual checks at the end (a modest tip included), with payment handled efficiently up at the front desk. I ordered the shredded beef flautas, and they were excellent. Two very crispy flautas, more than an inch in diameter and about 7 inches long, with shredded cheese and some lettuce on top, with guac and sour cream on the side. I am glad I opted not to get the additional rice and beans, as I had all I could handle to finish this excellent dish. My neighboring eaters had chimichangas and taco salads, and both looked very inviting. I heard nothing but praise for the food at our table. I was very favorably impressed, and look forward to next month's meeting here.
(4)Edward D.
I am siting in the restaurant as I type this and my friend and I have been sitting here for 20 minutes and we barely received our drinks. This is not great customer service. Also, it's not considerate of the guest during their limited lunch hour.
(1)Edward L.
I discovered this place like many others have. Because Mi Nidito was closed, and this place located across the street was open. Now it is my favorite go to Mexican restaurant when I am in this area. It is like a "dive-bar" Mexican restaurant. I mean that as a compliment. It has all the cliches covered. Dusty sombrero on the wall, faded oil paintings, And of course pipped in mariachi music to Serenade you as you enjoy your meal. Speaking of the food, I have never had a bad meal here. I usually come here for lunch and order whatever the special of the day is. It is always plentiful, tasty and a ridiculously affordable. I usually accompany my meal with an ice cold mug of Dos XX Amber. Served with a dried out lime slice. ( that is my only complaint) If you are looking for a fun, affordable authentic retro-Mexican Tucson experience: this is the place.
(4)Alan R.
Ended up here because the palce across the street was too crowded, and the gal at our hotel suggested this as an alternative, and I was quite pleased. I had a carne asada chimichenga enchilada-style, meaning drenched with red sauce...wow...so flavorful! The salsa that came with the chips was awesome. Colleague had the fish tacos which he said were really good (a satement evidenced by his practically inhaling them). If I ever find myslef back in Tucson, I'd certainly be up for a return visit to this place.
(4)Richa S.
I don't know why I go here. OH yes, it's because I'm forced to be social when coworkers want to frequent this nearby crappy place for lunch. It's about a few dollars too much for bland canned food warmed up.
(1)Paul J.
After eating at Mi Niditos across the street for lunch (very good), I picked up a friend at the VA Hospital after an eye operation. He hadn't eaten since yesterday. He was hungry. We went back to Mi Niditos but the line outside was too long so we went to Guillermo's Double L Restaurant. We were both very pleasantly surprised. I wasn't that hungry so I thought something light like fish tacos would be enough. More than enough! And delicious. I'd had Rubio's fish tacos and really liked them. Guillermo's fish tacos were different but I would say they are just as good. Definitely will go back to get them again. I also had their Moonrise(?) Margarita (Margarita with Blue Curacao). Never had a better Margarita. Of course, being a Gringo, what do I know? But I really liked it.
(5)Shawn L.
While the service could have been a little faster, the food was very tasty and filling. I had their cheese and chicken enchiladas. Sauce has has a nice bite and the chicken was moist. Will definitely go here next time I pass through Tucson.
(4)Meredith A.
Chips are fluffy and crispy. The salsa is amazing. The service is FAST and friendly. Our food came out in the blink of an eye and my drink is being refilled so fast that I'm feeling hydrated on this very warm day! I've been coming here for over 20 years and I've never been disappointed.
(5)Augustina M.
I've been going to this place for as long as I can remember, age 5 maybe? Some of their dishes are on point and others are mediocre, as is most places. You can't be the Jack or Jill of allll trades! That being said, I love their chips and salsa (they have mild and hot - both great) and their chips are homemade. Nom nom. My favorite app is a toss up between a cheese crisp with green chillies OR my ultimate favorite from this restaurant... their 'caldo de queso' (cheese and potato soup)! AHHH! It's to die for! I love their ground beef, chicken, shredded beef, enchiladas, chimichangas, etc. The items I would say are mediocre are the: guacamole, rice and beans. They're pretty standard. Nothing too special about either. To be honest, I base a lot of Mexican restaurants on how well they make their beans and rice. I'm a Mexican American gal so I know what's up and this place is 'okay'. But because they still carry a wide range of great foods (as mentioned above) and the service is rock solid (greattt waitressing and staff), I vote this joint 4 stars!
(4)Kris G.
The restaurant was clean and the staff was very attentive. Came here for lunch with a large party of 14 and they were ready for us upon arrival. Everyone enjoyed the 2 salsas as well as their meals. Food was hot, fresh and tasty!
(4)Adam F.
Right across from Mi Nidito is Guillermo's. You might call this is the Castle of Tucson's south side. Just ask the guard in the tower. It is very spacious inside and its decor is similar to its sister restaurant, Cinco De Mayo. Guillermos was the original location so everything inside is more vintage. The menu is the same at both locations. Service was friendly, prices were fair, and the food was decent/good. If you need something sweet after your meal, you can go to the counter and get gum or candy. While much of it similar to other restaurants in the area or in town, this place get's the benefit of having nothing negative to note. The portions aren't the greatest, but they give you enough to leave with the tummy satisfied. Give this place a try, as it does represent the iconic restaurants of the area.
(4)Ayla R.
Me and the hubs in all honesty only stopped in here for a quick Margarita before trying Mi Nidito across the street, which has no bar. No bar? I know, baffling! But Mi Nidito has a 45 minute wait so we tried Guillermo's! We each got a Cadillac Margarita (good ole' gran Marnier and Patron!) And nibbled through some chips and salsa The mild salsa tasted like ketchup but the hotter had good heat! I may be back to try their food, but mostly to kill time before Mi Nidito
(4)Taylor M.
Some things about this place are good. Other things are not so good. The inside of the restaurant is very clean with little to no wait. The menu is where it begins. I found it very confusing with too much going on. So confusing even the waitress was confused. I had the red chile chimichanga enchilada style. It was pretty good. Enchilada sauce was full of flavor and the beans and rice were also pretty good. The meat in the chimichanga was very good. I was a little disappointed with the size of the portion compared to the price. I tried the barbacoa and was rather disappointed. The cinnamon taste I was getting from it was so over powering I found it hard to eat. Do yourselves a favor and go to MiniDito across the street. The beans and chimichangas are better and the portions are bigger.
(3)JoseLuis L.
Love this place. I have been going here since I was a small child. Now I take my daughter here and she loves it she always asked to go back and we always have a good family time here. The staff is always nice and friendly

The wait staff was nice and friendly. But the food needs some serious work. I usually love mexican food too. But the instant rice with peas & carrots....really? Also the beans were cold...with that thick layer. On top from sitting to long cold. Should have sent it back. But was starving! Ordered the fish taco combo plate, bean tostada...both weren't anything special. Mediocre is my final comment.

Two stars because we were not physically injured nor did it appear that we received any spit in our food. Other than that... well... never again. The salsa that came with the chips was basically cannned tomato sauce, with some salt and garlic seasoning. The food (chimichanga for jen, taco salad for dan) was completely flavorless. The chimi tasted like an attempt at pepper steak and so well-done that the steak was about as dry as a charcoal briquette. Furthermore, it didn't even come with rice or beans (which for the price IS included in most other authentic mexican restaurants). The best part of the taco salad was the shell. Inside, the shredded chicken wasn't bad, but wasn't that good either. And the rest of the ingredients were flaccid and bland. Adding a healthy dose of the tomato-sauce salsa, and mixing everything (guac & sour cream included) together a la blender style made it edible, but just barely. Like many here, we settled on this place because Mi Nidito had a line out the door. And there was a reason that Guillermo's was only about 10% full. The best things in life are worth the wait. There was NO wait for the Double L. Point made?

I ate here because I was planning on eating at Mi Nidito's next door but apparently they are CLOSED on Monday AND Tuesdays!! I thought this place would be pretty good based on how they are located right across the street from Mi Nidito's (which is pretty famous) and they are still opened (which means they should have decent business despite having such strong competition right next door, but that theory was wrong. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it literally was just carne asada wrapped in tortilla. The carne asada wasn't even that good. It was too salty and WAY too dry. I was very disappointed with the food here, especially since I had such high expectations to try Mi Niditos. Well...that's what I get for trying a random restaurant that I didn't yelp ahead of time!

I've been here a few times and I'm never disappointed. We always get the cheese crisp and Margaritas. I got the chicken chimichanga for lunch today and the chicken was very moist and tasty.

The enchilada sauce, rice, beans, and taco's are pretty good. For me, the standout dish is the albondigas (they use green chiles) and the hot salsa. The service is pretty solid and the prices are fair considering what they could charge you for being across the street from Mi Nidito.

Haven't had a bite yet...and I'm ready to write my review. My first impression makes me wonder about the sanitary conditions. Waitress didn't seem to know the menu very well (didn't even know they had a vegetarian section). Basic TexMex...not bad, but not good.

3.5 to be honest, so I rounded up. Sad to see all the ones and twos on Guillermo's reviews. My experience last night wasn't nearly that bad, but I could see how it would have been if we were there during a busy time. Perhaps getting there at 8pm on a Tuesday night has its advantages. Our first choice was Mi Nidito but apparently their "Mexican Monday" is on Tuesday. Bummer. That being said, our dinner was very tasty. Fish tacos, Albondigas, Beef Tamales, and my meal Chicken Mole. I must say, the Chicken Mole alone gets a 4. I've been a Mole fan for years, and this one ranks right up there with the best. Great flavor, not too overwhelming and just enough sauce to slop up with tortilla chips! The service was good, but there were times when I would wonder if it was starting to take to long and right then the waitress would pop up. She's the 3 but came close to a 2 a few times. Like Guillermo's but I sure do hope Mi Nidito is open next time! Tip: My son is a tamale fanatic. Normally doesn't mind the spice. But these bad boys sneak up on you. He couldn't even finish them.
