This was our first visit to the new location. We were big fans of Guilin at their old location. They definitely have done a nice job with the décor, very clean and modern. Service was good; servers were prompt and friendly, but the food seemed better at the old location... The prices at Gulin are very reasonable, but not sure if this is the reason the food was not as flavorful as it could have been. It seemed that the vegetables were not fresh, perhaps the food is made in advance in batches? I had the Kung Pao chicken, could have used a little more heat. The food was missing the "wok hei" taste, the smoky flavor that food gets when subjected to fire while cooking- but perhaps they do not do that because they are "healthy Chinese food"?. Could have used some more subtle spices in any case. My spouse had a vegetarian dish, and felt the same way. Hard to quantify, but it seems that there would be a way to make the food more flavorful while not using MSG. On their "Contact Us" webpage it says "Military personnels (sic) get 10% discount for lunch menu items. Call us now!", but when I asked for the military discount and showed my ID, I was told that the military discount was "for dinner only". Not a big deal as their prices are very reasonable, but they should follow through with what they advertise on their webpage or update it. So overall excellent prices, good service and décor, but food needs a little work to bring it up to the flavor standards one finds at most Chinese restaurants. I may have caught them on a off day, so will have to try again some other time.

Huge fan! Love the veggie general tso's chicken. It is served with best steamed broccoli. The hot and sour soup and veggie egg rolls are great. Fast delivery and friendly staff.

Love Guilin and am so happy they have moved closer to my office. You cannot beat the value of their lunch specials!

Went with my wife, we love Asian food. This place was terrible, worst Asian food in Tucson. Call it Healthy but I don't think so flavor was disgusting. I'll stick to Wei Asian Cafe or Dragons Palace. There food is much better.

As much as it pains me to write this review, my visit was less than desirable. I was excited to have a new Chinese restaurant open right down the street from my house. The restaurant is nice, clean and remodeled and the staff was nice and greeted me. The vegetarian options seemed to be good so I went with a tofu- veggie dish. Then I found out any sauce substitutions are extra. When I receive my meal it was not what I ordered. I asked for steamed tofu and it was fried up in wrinkly pieces. The sauce was flavorful-less but thick and the portion size was small. When I told the server he acknowledged that he gave me the wrong order and did not offer to make it right. Just said sorry it's not what you ordered. #bummer #firstworldproblems

Absolutely my favorite restaurant, great food and prices for lunch specials and healthier options. Go here. Seriously, go.

Was not impressed with the food or the service. The General Tso's chicken lacked spice, was overly sweet, and was not what I have come to expect as a General Tso's chicken dish. The lo-mein was lacking in flavor. The staff is not attentive to the customer.

We've been eating at Guilin since we arrived in Tucson. Same delicious food, new improved location. I love this restaurant, and I'm happy they were able to upgrade and move into a new building. The huge vegan & vegetarian menu sets Guilin apart--but the meat selections are excellent, too. I really enjoy just about everything on the menu, but I have to get an order of the vegetable lo mein every time. It's that good. Ditch the Panda and the Safeway takeout, and try Guilin. You won't be disappointed.

Visited the new location last night - SO MUCH of an improvement over the last location (which was closer to my house but really beat down). New location is further but worth the drive. I appreciate that they're more healthy than your average Chinese restaurant. They have an amazing vegan and vegetarian menu and will cook without oil if you specify. We had chicken broccoli soup, beef broccoli, shrimp lo mein, house fried rice and chicken chop suey. It was all SO TASTY. Service was excellent and the kids actually liked all the food - which is unusual (typically they HATE at least one thing I order). Anyway, long story short - BIG fans, we'll be back and if they have delivery, this is our new place!!!

After 5 years of living in Tucson, I finally made the trek to Guilin to see what the hype was about. Now, I understand why it's a local favorite. This is what we ordered: - Hot and sour soup (tasty according to the bf) - Sesame chicken (very flavorful according to the bf) - Tofu skins with Chinese greens (my absolute favorite dish) - Eggplant with basil and garlic (meh... lacking depth and flavor) - Vegetarian dumplings (pan-fried and sooooo delicious) - Brown and white rice If I had things my way, I'd be eating their pan-fried dumplings all day, everyday. Service was friendly, fast, and efficient. I'll be back again.

Brand new location, same excellent food! No wonder they keep winning "Best of" in the Tucson Weekly. The menu is exactly the same from what I can tell, and the food is just as good. Same staff and people from the Speedway location. We piled up on mushroom and veggie soup, and dry tofu (that's how it comes, so good!) with vegetables, and the plate of dumplings is perfect. Noodles are amazing, everything is finger licking good here. I also really enjoy the green tea ($1) iced, and the hot green tea is served in a pot. The decor is much fancier here and the "bar" with alcohol more prominent. This feels more like a restaurant and less of a take-away place, as the previous location did. It's clean, nice, and pleasant. Did get pretty noisy and hard to hear since it's not a very big location. I'll be back... and back, and back, and back!

Good Chinese food and relatively inexpensive. I ordered cashew chicken, egg drop soup, and house special chow mein. I would go back which basically means I liked the food plus the people working there are really nice so I do like to support these types of business. Seems that they have a lot of regulars and the food comes out fast. I recommend this place for sure. It's yummy grub.

Delicious food, never disappointed with any order. Their vegetarian dishes and vegan dishes are very tasty. Being from Los Angeles it was hard coming to Tucson with not much selection for good Chinese food. Guilin's is our favorite Chinese spot in town. We'll gladly make the 40 minute drive from across town to eat here! Awesome customer service too!

I had a great meal here on a late Saturday night a few weeks back. One appetizer, two vegetarian dishes, and a couple of beers made for a filling, very reasonably priced meal. There were lots of family members scurrying about at closing time, but I never felt rushed. The restaurant is very clean, and the service impeccable. I'll definitely return, and may call ahead for takeout.

Had a nice meal here.Service was attentive and the food good-usual "Chinese-American" fare. The General Tso chicken was very good and nicely presented.I thought the hot and sour soup was mediocre. Prices very reasonable. The new facility was an upgrade. One negative was the water seemed unfiltered and tasted bad.Had to order Jasmine tea to have something to drink. They ought to remedy that. Given the scarcity of decent Chinese food here this is one of the better places.

    I. Love. This. Place. I loved Guilin before it moved, I love it even MORE now. DId I mention LOVE? The new place is really slick, clean, comfortable, and well-designed. Much cleaner and more modern than the last building. I go to Guilin, not just because it's yummy and inexpensive, but because they have a HUGE vegetarian section that includes vegetarian versions of Chinese food favorites. Vegetarian General Tso's Chicken! WHAT?!?! So good. Perfect texture, taste, and TONS for the price. I often come here for lunch on my own. They have tons of specials for super cheap and they're fast to bring out the food. Go to Guilin. Eat at Guilin. Love Guilin.

I LOVE this Chinese restaurant! They have an extensive vegetarian/vegan menu, which is highly appreciated, as well as a slew of other entrees. The food always tastes super fresh, I've never been disappointed. The lunch special here is pretty unreal; for $5-6, you get egg drop or hot and sour soup, an egg roll or spring roll, rice, and an entree. Highly recommend checking out Guilin.

They just moved in April and the new place looks great. It's a small restaurant, like 12 tables, and what fantastic food. It was tasty and usually on the lunch special, you don't get much food, not here. For $5-$6 on the lunch special, you will not be disappointed. Give them a try.

The new location is very nice! A complete upgrade! I have been a regular here for well over 6 years. This is my favorite place in Tucson by far. The vegan and veg menu is extensive I have tried it all and it's all wonderful. The General Taos veggie chicken is the bees knees! The lunch special includes rice, egg roll/ crab puffs, main dish and soup! Seriously for 5-6$!!! And it's fast! Hot and fresh and lunch break friendly! The egg rolls at dinner are nothing short of orgasmic. They are the only place with vegan hot and sour soup in town I have found. There is a reason they get voted best of Tucson every year for really good reason. The staff has changed a bit with the move but the food has not! They are open get over there!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
