Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've been staying at Starwood hotels for 6 years, and Victor (the bar tender) may have the best customer service I've encountered in that time. He runs a clean bar, serves good food from the kitchen, is calm and inviting, and incredibly polite. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and my stay, and attribute this largely to Victor.

Went to this place because we picked up a Groupon for it. Although it was pretty sparse in attendance. I do have to say that the food was pretty good. The standout for me was their tortilla soup. The server brought out the soup bowl and as I peered into it I said something that made me seem like a bit of a prat. Peering into the bowl it looked like a salad of sorts, no aqueous base that generally accompanies soups. So I opened my mouth prematurely and said "Umm, I ordered the tortilla soup" Foot in mouth moment. The server just glanced and me and picked up an additional bowl containing the base and poured it over the solid ingredients. The outcome was quite tasty. Overall my wife and our friend who we were with agreed that the food was good and another visit to the restaurant was not out of the question.

Kinda tired, as was the hotel. Chefs app board was good . Food and service was average. We were the only guests for dinner.

I had reviewed this earlier but for some reason it doesn't show up. Four of us really enjoyed Fire and Spice for dinner a few weeks ago. We tend to avoid restaurants attached to hotels as we have found they can be overpriced and mediocre. The restaurant had few patrons which was wonderful as it was quiet and peaceful, which is what we prefer in dining establishments. The ambience is almost elegant: modern decor, comfortable tables, very attractive surroundings. The service was as good as we could want: appropriately speedy, attentive, and professional. The food? Two of us had the NY steaks. It was $23 each, which certainly is not inexpensive, but we both agreed it was worth every cent. The beef was like prime beef (don't know if it was however) and was juicy, tasty, tender and cooked to perfection with a nice wood-flavor (mesquite?) overtone. The side of a combo sweet/white mashed was wonderful. My wife's fish tacos were really quite unique and very tasty. The salsa was homemade with great care. Our friend ordered a chicken pasta dish and loved it. I also thought it tasted a step above a typical restauarant pasta dish. Bread with two spreads was served before dinner. The drinks were quite good, Bahama Mamas. But expensive at $8! However the large size may justify the high cost We thought the location, in a chain hotel, but tucked in amidst the beautifully-landscaped grounds and swimming pool, was quite nice. Much nicer than looking out a restaurant window onto Speedway traffic! All in all we really enjoyed Fire and Spice, feel they have a cook who is a step above the ordinary, appreciated the service and are going back today to try their lunch.

Fire + Spice is a treasure hidden far within the Sheraton Hotel. Not a big menu but one bursting with flavor and taste. The food in this place is special.

I had heard the name of the restaurant before, but never heard anything about it through word of mouth. Now I know why. Fire + Spice is located next to the pool in the Sheraton hotel on Grant and Rosemont. You have to walk into the central courtyard of the hotel to get to the entrance of the restaurant. When entering Fire + Spice, I noticed a familiar smell. It took my guest and I only a moment to identify the smell as the smell of an old hotel room. The restaurant didn't smell of food or even the pool, but an old, musty, used, hotel room. My guest and I stood at the entrance for a moment, but no one came to greet us. In fact, there was no service staff visible anywhere in the entire restaurant and bar area when we arrived. (We knew they were open because there were about 20 other people seated in the restaurant.) We eventually picked a booth and sat ourselves. After a few minute passed, we saw a couple members of the service staff come out of a back room. They saw the two of us, but did not initiate contact. After several minutes, I got up to get menus from the host's podium (which did not have anyone at it all night). Finally, a member of the staff came by with water. He did not say anything to us, just dropped off the water and left. Several minutes passed before a incredibly disinterested waiter came over to take our orders. His demeanor was that of a bored child. He did not show any interest in us, seemed bored by our questions concerning the menu, and tried to say as few syllables as possible every time he spoke. We placed our orders, and then the wait began. I noted that there were people in the restaurant when we arrived; however, the place was by no means packed or busy. Almost half an hour passed before our waiter returned to our table, but instead of our entrées he brought the complimentary bread! The bread comes with three dipping choices, which our waiter rushed through so quickly I have no idea what they were. After that, almost twenty more minutes passed before he brought out our entrées! The food was not at all what we expected. I ordered the beef enchiladas and my guest ordered the fillet and shrimp. The enchiladas were tiny (smaller than any enchiladas I've had at any other restaurant) and had a good flavor. The sides of rice and grilled vegetables were tasteless however. My guest's fillet and shrimp was even smaller! The shrimp was good, but you only get three of them. The fillet was incredibly tender, but mostly flavorless. My guest's sides were grilled vegetables and sweet potato mash. The vegetables were again tasteless, but the sweet potatoes were incredibly sweet. In the hour and a half we spent at the restaurant, our server only refilled our water glasses once and was only at our table a total of five times! He never showed any interest in us or his job as a whole. (I know everyone has bad days, but this guy seemed to genuinely hate his job.) The food was pedestrian and the portions can only be described as appetizers, despite their gigantic prices! I would recommend avoiding this place altogether!

Great flavor, maybe the best southwest food I ever tasted. Fish taco is absolutely delicious. And the chicken tortilla soup - wow!

This place was a hidden gem! I read the reviews and was concerned, I can't stand terrible service! However, I was so pleased with my experience. Not only is the food delicious but there was a live jazz band playing out by the pool. They had fire pits outside by the band and pool as well. We sat and listened to the band and were offered blankets to use and could even purchase "make your own smores" and roast marshmellows by the fire while listening to the band. Oh and the service being slow, what a bunch of bologna. I was trying to send a text and in that small amount of time the server came by twice wondering if we were ready to order. Our food came out very fast as well. Overall fantastic experience and will for sure go back

Sorry. My opinion is that this place was rated by known suspects who either work at this hotel/restaurant or know someone who works there. Basically, it's a hotel restaurant and the food is fine/OK, and I mean fine/OK. You will probably not come back for the food as much as you will come back to the nice employees and the jamming bartenders (Ron) who make good drinks. THE BAR GETS 4.5 STARS************************* We had a group of people having dinner and the winner of all dishes seemed to be the huge cheese burger. If you don't have high expectations, the rest of the choices will be fine/OK and the plates are not filling (hate that for the price). It's convenient if you don't want to get back into your car and drive somewhere else. Good luck, they need more INDEPENDENT reviews....

saturday night after relaxing outside at the courtyard we decided to hit up fire + spice lounge located at the sheraton for a snack. this place is visually appealing and has a relaxing vibe. we ordered the chicken quesadilla. we asked the bartender if it was big enough to share? after all it is an appetizer...he responded no and we ordered two. so glad we did because we enjoyed our chicken quesadilla! delicious + presentation was great. I'm surprised this place isn't popular with locals? yes..i am giving a hotel lounge 5 stars..because they have the right combination of a personable bartendar, nice ambience, and tasty bites..just what i needed to end my night.

Such an amazing surprise. I asked for a cheese enchilada instead of the chicken ones and I got the chips and salsa and it was amazing. I am from CA and so I know Mexican food. Fire & Spice is awesome.

The details here are nice- three kinds of butter for the bread, jalepeno and prickly pear show some southwest treats you wont find elsewhere! I had the shrimp and beef medallion. The portions looked small, but I was stuffed when I finished. I would have taken some home, but were so delicious I just kept eating. The atmosphere is quiet and the wait staff attentive. I will be back!

I travel weekly and avoid hotel room service at all cost, but tonight, I arrived late and didn't have a rental car. I ordered room service (19% gratuity and $3 room charge per order). I ordered the chipotle caesar salad. It was delicious - romaine lettuce, grilled corn, chopped tomatos, cheese and a nice chipotle dressing. It was the perfect starter salad. For the main course, I ordered the enchiladas (one chicken and one beef). It came wiht grilled vegetables and basmati rice. The enchiladas are spicy, but the overall dish was great. I also had a nice glass of Reisling wine which was complimentary because the host gave me a free glass of wine coupon. The overall tab was $33.49 with tax, gratuity, delivery charge and arrived within the 20 minutes they quoted me. The only negative thing is that they charged me for the wine even though I told them that I had a free coupon when I placed the order. I recommend this placed based on the items I ordered.

Came here with my bf when we bought a groupon. We arrived after dark and the ambiance was beautiful. The lighting was romantic and it was next to the resort pool. The food wasn't completely memorable but it was pretty good. We came back again just for the incredible ambiance and great service.

We were pleasantly surprised by the service and the food! Despite the negative reviews we found everyone on the staff to be polite and attentive. We visited with a bunch of extended family members and everyone was happy with their meals. The tortilla soup was amazing!!

The server looked miserable as she seated us, and it was soon apparent why: she'd be the one delivering the bad news - dinner. It's rare and uncomfortable to me to dole out one star reviews, so I hope to save them for where they are merited. To put it simply: halving portion size and doubling price does not alone a fine dining experience make. I ordered the vegetable enchilada dinner plate and was served two dry, flavorless flautas (think of a tortilla wrapped around a sliver of zucchini and oven baked) and a half cup of rice. For five bucks, it would have been a mediocre appetizer. For a fourteen dollar entree, it was a joke. My husband forked over all the fries that accompanied his burger in attempt to supply me any substance. Other reviews mention fresh bread and butter - none was offered to us. The restaurant website notes live music and outdoor seating around fire pits - also, not this evening. The place was empty in peak hour, save some folks at the bar at the hotel for a convention. If the service was warm, or the food heartier, or flavorful, or the prices more practical, or the atmosphere less a downer, I could be forgiving. Instead I went back up to my room at the adjacent Sheraton and drank a far more satisfying $9 bottle of wine.

I noticed a sticker that says "People love us on yelp" I thought hey this place can't be that bad! WRONG. They screwed up our orders and the food came out cold. We had to wait for 30 minutes before we got any bread or drinks. You would think a place in a hotel would have better service. No one came out to apologize. There was one good thing though is that they have really good fried ice cream.

I'd heard good things about this place, but never eaten here, although my parents always stay in this Sheraton when they visit. I figured it would be an easy meal for us on their last night in town. Potentially one of the most underwhelming experiences I've ever had. The server gave the distinct impression that she'd rather be anywhere else in the world, and that we were sort of an annoying imposition on her time. The menu was short; there was very little to choose from, hardly anything for vegetarians. The enchiladas couldn't be be made vegetarian because they were "rolled in the morning." The children's menu was unavailable (although the server recited it for the kids), as was the pizza menu, because they were being reprinted. The server couldn't recite the available pizza toppings, but claimed they had "anything you'd put on a pizza." When my father asked for his favorite toppings, they were not available. I ordered the salmon which was middling, nothing special. It was a small piece of fish drowned in an overly sweet sauce. The rice was edible, but sort of looked like it had been sitting around. Neither of these foods gave the impression of being very fresh, although the grilled vegetables were. At $20, it felt WAY overpriced. My mother ordered sweet pototo rellenos and didn't like them at all. It was just chiles, cubed sweet potatoes, and a bit of cheese, not really a relleno at all. My father got the pizza, and if it wasn't the worst pizza I've ever tasted, it was pretty close. I've had better pizza at the bowling alley. The crust was like a piece of soft bread. The ingredients did not scream "high-quality." This pizza made me yearn for the frozen generic pizza in the grocery freezer case. The kids liked their meals. My stepson had chicken fingers, which were pretty run-of-the-mill, and onion rings, which were probably the best item we ate that night. The onions were sliced to a good size and the breading was crispy, although it had a strange, bitter aftertaste. I'm guessing this food was frozen. My stepdaughter loved her macaroni, which isn't saying much. It looked like last week's leftovers and when my stepson tasted it, he said it tasted like it had been in the microwave. She was told the fruit side would be watermelon and strawberries, but there wasn't much in the way of strawberries, and the whole dish had the taste and appearance of something that had been sitting in the back of the fridge all week with discolored watermelon chunks and tiny random bits of other fruit swimming in the juice at the bottom. Basically, nothing looked or tasted fresh. This place isn't doing much for the reputation of southwestern cuisine. Also, our waitress disappeared after checking in on us once. (She was most likely not busy with other tables, as we were the only people in the section, and possibly the restaurant by that time.) Ten minutes after we finished eating, my mother had to get up and hunt her down to ask her for the check. Might give the place another chance if/when they revamp their menu but at not running.

Fire + Spice is actually room service for the Sheraton Hotel. I stayed there on my way to Dallas and wanted to grab a meal. I noticed they had a great selection of southwestern food. I ordered Tortas with Black beans and rice. For being room service it was pretty darn tasty!!! They also delivered the food very quickly. If I lived in Tucson I would probably eat here. If you are traveling its actually pretty far from the 10 so unless you are in the area I am not sure if its worth the drive because of the traffic. If you are feeling adventurous though I recommend this place.

I would give the food a 2.5. We tried Fire & Spice to use our entertainment coupon before it expires. It is Christmas time, but even at 3pm we were the only diners for a half hour. The waitress was cheerful & nice. It took about 15 min to get a decaf coffee (it was brewed fresh) & 2 glasses of wine. The bread was fresh & warm with soft butter, not the hard squares you get some places. The food was just fair. Although my husband enjoyed his skirt steak chimichuri. My mom's enchiladas were tiny with several bites of fat in them. The grilled ham & cheese was just so so. There are many other restaurants in Tucson with better & less expensive fare. And as others mention, you have to seek & find to come to the entrance. We will go elseware for good Tucson food.

Very conveniently located in the Sheraton Hotel. Really nice place with the possibility of having dinner by the pool around the fire pits. The food was really good. I had the snake bites, that were delicious and the pasta which I really enjoyed. The flourless chocolate cake was really good choice as well. It's a little bit over priced, but if you are staying in the hotel, you want to have some drinks (great lemon drop and martinis) and not worry about driving, it's the place to go. It really makes the Sheraton the hotel to go in Tucson.

Their burger is delicious. Their beer battered onion rings are some of the best in the city. The prickly pear wings are sweet and unique. The creme brulee is on the best I've ever had; even beating out Le Rendez-vous. While I have nothing but good things to say about their food, their servers were a bit slow. I gave them the benefit of the doubt when it was busy, but it was the same speed when it was empty. I will still come back for the creme brulee though!

Only the great steak that topped the under-dressed Caeser salad saves this from a one star debacle. Sine they had no iced tea and the lone serving person hadn't thought about it until I went back inside to get us some water, I can't comment on that. The Mexican corn was incredibly poorly done, undercooked, covered with mayo and no cheese, which presumably was hiding out with the parmigiana that was not on that salad. I realize Sunday afternoon is not prime time for a restaurant, but this really was way below par.

I was staying at the Sheraton couple nights ago so decided to go to the restaurant for a drink. Reasonable prices so that was nice. The bartender/server was very nice. I ended up ordering a couple items to take back to my room. I got a cheese quesadilla and chicken nachos. They both were really tasty. The cheese on the nachos was so flavorful. The salsa that came with the quesadilla was really really good. I definitely would come back.

Were in town visiting my folks S. of Tucson and decided we'd like to go for something at least nice before the night was out on New Year's Eve and decided on this place after looking at our options on Restaurants.com where at least we could get a price break. The menu sounded promising and lately mid to high end hotels have been doing a better job of having a quality restaurant experience. Well, this place is trying hard but just can't pull it off. First, the location inside the Sheraton is strange-it is buried in the middle-past a bunch of rooms and past the pool. Once inside, the decor was nice but somehow it didn't have a lively atmosphere. Maybe that is because it was about a third full on New Year's Eve at 9 pm. I am more used to good hotel restaurants being near the entrance of the hotel where you really don't even have to go into the hotel and thus end up feeling autonomous. The service was middling. Our waitress seemed tentative and unsure. The broth for the tortilla soup was quite lukewarm-and having her serve it at the table allowed her the opportunity to spill some of it all around the outside of the bowl. Our entrees (Carne Asada and one of the steak options which no longer seems to be on their website menu) were fine but nothing that made you savor it for long. The worst part was waiting over 20 minutes for our tiramisu and creme brule at around 10:30 when I think there was only one other table in the place and they were working on their appetizers. I'm guessing that the chef was also pulling dessert duty. In closing, this place looks fine, has a nice sounding menu with a potentially innovative approach but manages to fall short what a really good restaurant should be even in a hotel environment.

Slow service. Food ranges from good to excellent. Live jazz on the patio some evenings. Prices are on the high side. The signature margarita is excellent.

As I mentioned in my review of the Sheraton, I needed a place to watch the England vs. Algeria World Cup game while my lovely wife shopped with her daughter and grandkids. We timed our trip down there perfectly and I was sitting at the bar with time to spare! There were lots of TVs in this place and they had music playing that gave the bar a very cool vibe to it. I came to learn that Ernesto, the bartender, was very cool. He greeted me right away and wanted to get me set up as best as humanly possible. I picked my best vantage point and while I wasn't all that hungry, looked over the menu. Everything looked and sounded tasty, but I was in game mode and all I really wanted was a GOOD Bloody Maria. Long ago I accepted the fact that not all bars make good Bloody Marys/Marias. Would I be as lucky today as the US was against England in their first game of the World Cup or would I be victimized like we were in the Slovenian match? Ernesto was fired up to make me one and I was buoyed by his enthusiasm. It took a few minutes and when he was done, I have to say Ernesto has Fire + Spice in the plus column! My Bloody was so good I had to tell myself to slow down and savor it... I didn't want to be wasted by the time the Mrs. showed up. While England looked very uninspired during their match against Algeria, Ernesto & Co. were taking up the slack. People started to filter in for lunch, but I was the only one at the bar. Even though he started to get busy with orders for the lunch crowd he made sure to take care of me. Ernesto set out some very spicy chex mix for me. This mouth charring, endorphin pumping variant did not come out of a Chex Mix bag. It was "this is freakin' hot but I can't stop eating it" good. I meant to ask where it came from, but again I was in game mode and Ernesto could sense it. He was friendly, but not disruptive (and ended up giving me the remote so I could turn the volume up). He poured me a Dos Equis and kept tabs on me. At half time, I ordered a Sonoran Quesadilla. Not because I was super hungry, but it just looked so good: Roasted poblano's, oaxaca cheese, salsa fresca, crema ...for a buck they add beef machaca and it rolled out at $8. It came with salsa but it was so tasty, I didn't want to spoil it in any fashion. I wished I would have been starving, because I wanted to try a whole lot more on the menu. Anyway, the second half came and went uneventfully. England failed to produce, yet Ernesto & Fire + Spice came up big! I settled my tab and told Ernesto I would be back for a margarita to take back poolside. Everyone claims they have good margs...if life was only that simple. I tried two, just to make sure! They were as good as he claimed they were going to be. I wasn't completely bombed when the Mrs. returned. She tried to catch up and pitched in an order of cherry vodka & soda water. She tried two ..they tasted like cherry vodka & soda water. LOL! Our last report is on breakfast. We mosied on down there for breakfast thinking our breakfast vouchers were going to be for some prepacked bagels or honey buns and maybe a small carton of milk or Donald Duck OJ. The waitress informed us that they were good for the All- American breakfast. Mrs. asked if we could substitute it for the Breakfast Burrito..she is so good at that! They hooked us up and we both enjoyed one of the best breakfast burritos ever. It is not a humongous stomach stretching burrito, but a respectfully sized burrito. Some say that it is not the size of your burrito that matters , but what is inside. I believe it...in this case. Not only was the burrito delish....the hash browns were some of the best tasting shredded spuds we have ever had. The Mrs. couldn't finish hers and I was too full to help out. Guess it was big enough! The Sheraton is lucky to have this place on the property! I would go there even if I wasn't staying at the hotel.
