Wow. I'm kinda amazed at the bad reviews here but it seems it's mostly about the meat part of the menu. My experience with the fish side of the menu was quite fine. I met friends here for the Friday Night Fish Fry and the place was packed. 3 in the group ordered the "all you can eat" Alaskan cod and all loved it. It came with a dinner salad (ala American diner style with lots of chilled iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots), a side of fries, and generous servings of fish. I ordered the breaded jumbo shrimp and loved it. It was done perfectly. The side order of onion rings was done traditional style. Our server was attentive, the owner came by and asked how everything tasted, and we got our bill which was very reasonable for the amount of food we received. The staff acted like they were glad we came. Very friendly. The outside is faux Western Town and the inside is a bit dark, somewhat like the Silver Saddle. Just bigger. It's actually a great place for large groups of family and friends to meet and have an enjoyable evening together.

Visiting Tucson? DO NOT go here!! I used to work at a business near Cattletown for 10yrs. This was always Management's first choice for business lunches and dinners...though I'll never understand why. Needless to say I've been here several times and tried many items in an effort to find something decent. I was so embarrassed when they would take company visitors to this gross place!! It had to be out of convenience being that we were within walking distance. Food: Nothing is good. Steaks are dry & over cooked, veggies are brown looking, service is hit or miss. It's just bland overall. Eat at your own risk.

Been here twice and both time had great service and food. Nothing special, but nice and clean at a reasonable price. It a $12 stake on Tuesdays not a $25 stake you get what you pay. I like the place

We call it The Tough and Chewie. Not that great but ok when you need to choke something down.

Nice country style atmosphere but unfortunately the food was very dissapointing. I had the baby back ribs mashed potatoes and gravy with beans. The ribs had been around a while. The meat was hard and had that distinctive reheated meat taste although burried in bbq sauce. Far from the "fall off the bone" claim made in their menu. The mashed potatoes tasted like KFC which is great if you are in a drive through mindset for dinner. However in this environment and for this price I expect real potatoes. I will definitely spend my money elsewhere next time.

Average, but interesting experience. So, have a sit and listen to my tale of dinner at Cattletown. It was 5pm on a Saturday, there were 4 of us coming from a Dbacks spring training game. We had lost one member of our party along the way so we ordered drinks and 2 appetizers (half price during happy hour 3-6pm, which makes sense given cheese sticks were $6.75). Waitress checked back with us 4 times in the 15 minutes it took for the last member of our group to join us. She gave him about 3 minutes to order and when we asked for another moment, well, the night took a turn there. She wrote us off for dead. She returned 20 minutes later to take our order. The only time we saw her again was with our bill. And get this, when she threw our bill on the table without asking if we wanted desert, and we handed it back to her asking for a desert menu she got all huffy. Which waitres in the world sighs when you order more food?! She brought one person a menu and rolled her eyes at me when I asked what the mudd pie was. I know it's a silly question, but sometimes it's chocolate and sometimes it's coffee. She told me it was ice cream and walked away- again! We placed our desert order with another waitress. Someone else brought our desert. 30 minutes after finishing our food I had to track her down for the bill. Which, based on her attitude, was similar to asking her to knit me a sweater. And now for the turbulent conclusion. I paid the bil with my father's credit card, the lady asked me for ID but still let me pay, no questions asked. Granted, we have the same last name. When I asked to speak the manager she apologized and hugged me. Yep, a hug. The other lady at the counter said she hears this a lot about Kim (our wonderful waitress). Oh, in case you were wondering about the food... average. The ribs were good and I really enjoyed them, sauce was spicy but not overpowering. The chicken fried steak was a too bready and overcooked. Steak was average. Strawberry shortcake was good, but clearly frozen strawberries over a biscuit.

Came here with family on $9.95 steak and shrimp coupon night. I wasn't expecting much due to the price and the Yelp reviews. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The service was very personable and fun. For a party if 6, we were well attended to and our orders were fast and accurate. The food was above average and plentiful. The shrimp was a bit over breaded, buy the steak was tasty, juicy and tender. Dinner came with a nice side salad, all the warm dinner rolls you can eat and a baked potato. I left completely full and satisfied. Nice touch is the owner walks around and checks on you during your dinner. Don't know why it's only got 2 stars on Yelp... It's much better than that.

Solid bit of local color, if you're looking for some. We had great service, good food, and cold drinks, and we didn't have to pay too much. I had the ribs - yum. The salads were decent, the rolls were fresh and delicious, the loaded baked potato was good. I loved the mini-pitchers ($8.50 for an Alaskan Amber, about 2 1/2 drinks - good deal and cute, to boot). Others in my group had steaks - which were cooked the way they ordered, and full of flavor, according to them, and a simple burger which was also pronounced good. It wasn't the best meal of our lives, but I'd go back, and I'm sure I would fully enjoy myself. Overall, it seemed like a great little - but spacious - place, with great customer service and good food. Try it!

I am usually one to only write good things about places I have been, but I really feel like I need to warn you folks out there. First trip to Tucson, about 8pm, my friend and I decide on Cattletown, sounded "authentic" for good bbq, steak etc. Cute, place, Nostalgic appearance, inside it was quiet, I thought well, it is late, so I was craving ribs, ordered a 1/2 slab of baby back ribs. My friend ordered the pork chops, he tasted them and said wow these are really dry, then I tried the ribs, they were were the worst ever, they tasted and looked like they were 2 days old, like jerky! My friend finally tasted them thinking I was just being picky and he was floored at how un eatable they were! I told the waitress and she insisted she would take the ribs off the ticket, but still charged me for my salad and baked potato. I did not check YELP first, next time I will before I venture to a restaurant in uncharted waters! .

I had a disappointing experience at Cattletown a few years ago and vowed never to go back, but some friends convinced me to meet them there last night. Again, a very disappointing experience. A waitress took our orders, but the food was brought by a guy (manager or kitchen staff? not sure.) I immediately noticed a black hair in my mashed potatoes and brought it to his attention. He took my plate away and returned with a baked potato. When I told him my potatoes were mashed he went back to the kitchen and brought me a huge bowl of mashed that had gravy so salty I couldn't eat it. The salad was very generic, a pile of iceberg with some shredded carrots and 1 (yes, 1) little grape tomato. After 2 bad experiences I can say with much certainty that I will not go back.

Tough night for taste buds. Sorry guys, should've trusted the yelp ratings. went here on a Tuesday night. As a matter of fact I'm still sitting in the restaurant. I ordered a medium steak, got well done, and I mean charred. Others ordered shrimp scampi, rubber in melted butter and garlic. :( such is life. Moving on.

Have been there many times, but only for the Friday All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry, which has always been good. However, friends recently commented on a disappointing experience, quoting 'soggy fish'. So we went last night to check it out. Our order was taken after 5 mins, but it took another 10 for coffee to arrive. Another 5 mins then rolls & butter came, and we asked where our salad was. Our server said it was coming. Another wait then our fish and fries arrived, still no salad. Fish was good, hot and crispy, except for one piece, which was half-cold and soggy. Fries were cold and 'old'. Then the salad came. Huge pieces of iceberg with the odd kidney bean & one cherry tomato. Not at all appetizing. Just like someone else said - lettuce with dressing. We 'lost' our server for some time before we could get a coffee refill. We ordered more fish. This time they were all fresh, crispy and hot. Really good. Should have all been like that the first time. Will we go back? Maybe. Where else do you get All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry on a Friday in Tucson? On the south side, there's very little choice. If you go, don't get put in the back room. It's terrible. Why don't restaurants try to be the best that they can be, to entice people back?

The sandwiches and the fish fry are pretty good. Wouldn't go there for steak. It's dark inside, pretty country style. Kind of cute from the outside. But service is quick, great for business groups.

Save the dissapointment and go to the Silver Saddle instead, second best in Tucson only to El Corral

This place is for a meat and potatoes kind of person. To me the place was in uncharted waters for me. Never really been on the south side of Tucson in awhile, I'm more of a downtown person. The salads ain't much, their nice, but its just like your eating lettuce with dressing. Bread is good and soft. Good variety of crackers, First time I went I got a steak. It was cooked to my likings, but with the company that i was with that night, my steak ended up staying under the heat lamp a bit too long; they ordered much bigger steak, thus taking longer to cook, while mines got a good suntan. The flavor went away after the first few bites. The potato only came with cream cheese and butter. Not much to go crazy about. But, my lady had ordered the chicken tender, and sampling some of her's, I was in tender heaven. The next day went back to try the chicken tenders that had tasted soo good the night before, to be sure of my taste buds. And I was not disappointed. They are nice and juicy. Not to mention that they have some pretty good ranch there. The service is good. My drink was always refilled, always asked if we needed anything. Nice, friendly, and overall homely. So if anything, go for anything but the steak. Or prove me wrong.
