Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Always five stars! I've been coming to place for for 18+ plus years! Food is always amazing and super big portions! Service today with Holly was great! She was super friendly and fast! Chicken chimichanga is my favorite.

My parents went to Casa del Rio Every week. Actually many weeks daily. When working close to Casa del Rio My Mom and I would also meet for lunch. A coworker stopped every day to pick up wonderful meals for his mother and father. Being wheel chair bound made it work to get out of his van....but worth all the effort for this Mexican Family that knows good Mexican Food. Now I live in my deceased mother's home. My husband and I have our favorite booth, favorite meals not to mention the wonderful staff. If my father (on hospice) could travel a few miles from his care home...He would be definately overjoyed.Casa del Rio should have 5 stars. Critical people love to lower average scores. Shame on them. Casa del Rio is awesome and has a regular following of those who know GOOD food!!!

I love Mexican food, with Hot salsa, very disappointed on their salsa , was as weak as ketchup, so I left didn't bother to order what's the point. The restaurant itself was nice and clean but broke my heart that they couldn't have proper salsa/hot sauce big bummer and a deal breaker for me anyways.

Came here on a Sunday early dinner, was suggested by my mother in law as a new place to give a try. Thought hey, maybe I can sample another chili relleno and find a diamond in the rough. The place is located at the end of a strip mall at pantano and 22nd, I was assured that the place is way better than it looks. Very comfy, family owned, mexican style place. I noticed an all female staff, kinda cool. The menu is basic and so is the food. With all the options in town, this was an americanized version of sonoran style mexican. A lot of mild basics like refried beans and burritos in large barely filled tortillas. The staff was great, very friendly and accomdating. I just wasnt feeling the vibe.

My family and I have enjoyed Casa Del Rio once to twice a month going on 20 years I'd say. Have always enjoyed the food, the service. I read some of the negative reviews, I just don't get it. Take out, dine in, always a laid back very enjoyable meal.

My husband just loves this place. He always gets either the chimi (huge) or the taco salad. I like the albondigas soup. Great service and very good food. We even do carry out on a lazy day. Food ready in 10-15 minutes. Good salsa.

My hubby took me here for lunch today. The price for lunch ranged from $8.25 on up. Complimentary tortilla chips & salsa were served. Warm chips came to our table with oil still glistening on them. Hubby ordered the no. 11 & I ordered the no. 6 (see menu for details). Overall it was decent, but not our type of Mexican quisine that makes our tastebuds happy. Needless to say, this won't be our go 2 place to frequent.

Having been born in Tucson I've been going to Mexican food places my whole life. After trying some of the other mex places on the east side, my gf wanted to go to Casa Del Rio. The feel is a little more cozy than most of the other places in town, kind of like some of my favorite mexican restaurants (of all time) up in Globe, AZ. That gave a nice initial impression. Here's the quick breakdown of how I felt about it afterwards: - Chips and salsa were very good. - Average service, on the good end - Average margaritas for Tucson - Great chimichangas (carne asada for me) - Combo plates look like a salad with all the shredded lettuce (I dont care for that, some might) - Slightly higher prices than Molinito and Casa Molina on food, drinks are on par. Solid 3 star place , on the verge of a 4.

Great food!!! Great people!! We've been coming for years and will keep coming back! They support the community by having school fundraiser nights. Way to go, Casa!

Always loved this place and have been here many times. The food is Americanized, but I like that. Salsa is delicious and the chimichangas are a favorite. I think most people will find something on the menu they would return for.

My family has been coming to Casa for years!! We love the food and the staff. They have the best salsa and chips! We enjoy getting the cheese crisp for an appetizer. The tortilla soup is amazing and the ground beef and cheese chimis are as well. Tip on the ground beef and cheese chimis, get cheese inside and out if you love cheese. I also enjoy to get a carne asada "chimi" without a tortilla, which sounds kind of weird, but it is a low carb option. Pretty much anything is yummy here... my Grandpa even used to love to get the cheese burger and fries. You cannot go wrong here. They even have a large room in the back for big parties and a take-out specific area. Enjoy :)

Went in for dinner last night. The place was very busy. We have taken to sitting in the cantina because it is more private. The bartender, who also waits the tables, was busy, but we sat there for a while without notice, nod, wave etc. As we often eat here we knew what we wanted and I went up to the bar to order. As I approached the bartender greeted me with "you're going to have to wait. I'll will get to you in a few minutes." I tried to explain that I just came up to order and not to expect table service. She then explained that she could not take an order because their system had crashed. As I walked back to my table her greeting words sunk in and I told my wife and we left. I stopped at the main restaurant cashier and thanked them for the happy hour chicken wings and explained what had happened. I didn't get a sorry or action, I got an explanation that the system had crashed. I responded that lack of a system was not my problem to solve and that we would be leaving. The hostess followed us outside and offered to pay for dinner, but we want elsewhere. Now, analysis. True, the place was busy, but they are frequently busy. I counted up to three hostesses (not the principal folks who are usually there). With three bodies up front no one was helping out the bartender, although she had a large assignment. Her response to me may have been from frustration, but I can think of many different ways to respond that would not offend. May be an of night for these folks, but we will give it some time to go back.

Stopped in here for lunch after church with friends. Had a nice meal. I enjoyed my ground beef taco and cheese enchilada. Pretty typical compared to same type of restaurant around town. The service was friendly and attentive.

We recently visited this near by restaurant over the weekend, food was okay. I wouldn't say it was one of the best places I have been to. I ordered the Chimichanga and my mother ordered the chili con carne and a flauta. We also ordered side beans and rice. Food was NOT authentic Sonoran style food as they claim, it was very much an American version of Mexican food. Service was fast and they had so-so customer services. Has not been the worse place but defiantly was not a place we would go to again.

Been here 2-3 times with friends. Not the greatest Mexican food. Salsa is good, tortillas tasted like store bought. Ordered a topopo salad which probably had an entire head of lettuce in it. Took half of it off. Chicken was dry and had no flavor. The "house dressing" was about 90% vinegar and 1% oil, needless to say, I didn't use it. Green chiles had no heat whatsoever. If you want real Mexican food in Tucaon, don't go here. Midway Molina's on Speeday or Poco and Mom's on Kolb are two of the best.

Ate here this evening. I ordered the chicken fajitas with Rice. Absolutely no flavor at all. The veggies were barely cooked, the tortillas tasted store bought (mission brand), beans out of a can and rice tasted like uncle bens. I Ate 1/3 of the meal and felt sick. Will never eat there again. Every employee looked miserable. The only person working hard and showing Great customer service was the busser. She was the only employee smiling.

A pleasant place with decent food and reasonable prices. Its Americanized "Mexican" food so dont expect authentic.Service was prompt and friendly and our meals were tasty if somewhat bland. As my wife said it beats cooking and they do the dishes!

We recently went to Casa Del Rio Mexican Restaurant for a family celebration. This restaurant is a family favorite. I ordered the shredded beef chimi it was cooked well and the shredded beef was tasty. They top the chimi with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes guacamole and sour cream. You can order enchilada style if you wish for an extra charge. The portion size is big, you may have leftovers to take home. We ordered a cheese crisp with green chilies to share before our meal. It was very large and delicious. The service was good. They bring chips and salsa to the table when you're seated. The salsa has a good flavor...Not to hot. I recommended you give Casa Del Rio a try

Go ahead and hate on it. Yes, it's owned and run by people who don't look like they should run a mexican restaurant. The food is awesome Tucson mexican food. The best: Cheese crisp with green chiles. I get one as my meal. It's huge (easily 20" wide) and the cheese they use is great. The chiles give it a great flavor. Not to be missed in Tucson.

Casa Del Rio is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Tucson. For starters I love their salsa and their machaca is one of the best I've ever had, though sometimes it does have less flavor than other times. I normally get the number 1 or the carne asada burrito. The service is almost always spot on and the pricing is excellent.
(5)Geoff P.
It's good but I think caters mainly to gringos. The only beer on tap is Bud & Miller. Machaca tasty but bland. OTOH, SWMBO is gushing over the Flan: "Sugar tastes like toasted marshmallow. I'd come back just for the Flan!" I did manage to keep her from licking the plate clean...just barely. ;)

Great food good prices. The service is very hit and miss I usually go at times that there aren't a lot of people so it surprises me. Even when it is busy it is pretty laid back and quiet enough to have a good pre-meal conversation. All in all I suggest this restaurant to anybody looking for a filling yummy meal

Not authentic mexican food but decent. I'm the odd mexican girl who doesn't like mexican food. The inside isn't fancy or anything special. I went there on a Saturday night and we were seated right away around 7pm with a party of 6. The hostesses seemed to hate her job but then again she most likely wanted to be outta work and partying it up! We were instantly given ice cold water, chips and salsa. The salsa was bland and blended/pureed. I ordered a beef tamale with red sauce and it was pretty good, the masa wasn't dry. Seeing as we only live once along with my meal i ordered plain churros. Oh MY GOD they were amazing! So light and fluffy with chocolate sauce decorating the plate. I highly recommend ordering them!!!

Went there for the first time for dinner due to the recommendation of a friend. I ordered the chille relleno, guacamole tostada and cheese enchilada for $10.00. Needless to say, I did not leave hungry! It was good...nothing to rave about, however, the portion was big! My husband ordered the Chicken chimi, recommended by our server. Deep fried burrito with cheese and sour creame on top. The chicken was sorta dry, perhaps next time we'll order enchilada style. The service was fast and we did not have to ask to refill our drinks...they were on it! (major plus) Chips and salsa was VEry VERY good! We'll try more of their menu

The best Mexican food for the best price. The ground beef burro enchilada style is to die for and the portions are so big that I get to enjoy my meal twice. No matter the time of day or if I order to-go, the food is hot, served quickly, and reasonably priced.
