Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

This is a 2nd location as the original location is in Oro Valley. This restaurant is in the former Ric's Cafe spot. We live very near the original Oro Valley location but when we learned one of our favorite servers who used to work at Armitage is now at the new Cafe Torino, we went there to check out the new location. We were not disappointed! They do not have patio seating yet but will in the near future. If they happen to have the gnocci as the evening special - GET IT! It is the BEST gnocci I have ever eaten. My daughter calls it "little pillows of heaven"!

Came for Mother's Day dinner. Foods are excellent and good portions. The service is also wonderful! Will definitely come back!

Back again. It's saying something that we had the same thing as last time - the lasagna and the cioppino. My daughter had the fettuccini. Everything was wonderful. I had to take half my lasagna home since it was such a big portion. As an appetizer we had shrimp scampi in phyllo. Yum. Our server Tessa was excellent.

Amazing food every time I come. (Both locations) love that the sauces are made from scratch when you order. Service was amazing. Nash makes you want to come back to the restaurant for more.

At least a dozen meals here, consistently excellent, great service, home made pasta, best bolognese and calamari in Tucson.

This place is so delicious! The first time we came here was for my friend's birthday. We all ordered different dishes and we loved all of them! I went with the good old spaghetti and meatballs and it was far better than I expected. The usage of bacon in their spaghetti really brought out the flavor in the dish. This place was so good that we came back again a month later just for the spaghetti and meatballs. Haha

Matt Russell On the Menu Live always says to shout out a good yelp. Had antipasti last night and great jazz trio.

Great service and fresh food. We loved every single item we ordered. The prosciutto and mozzarella ciabatta was amazing and the sausage zuppa tasted great as well! Looking forward to trying the dinner menu.

Awesome! My girlfriend and I had some friends from back east fly in to Phoenix and we decided to stop for dinner on the way down to Sierra Vista. We are so glad we did. The staff was very friendly on the phone, got us reservations on short notice which was awesome. We were promptly seated, the ambiance was nice and the folks working were very pleasant. Our waiter, Michael, was supurb and very nice. He was very knowledgable about the menu, polite, and answered all my questions...even a couple silly ones. We will demand to be seated in his section the next time, and we will certainly be back. I had the spaghetti alla checca, which was delicious. My girlfriend got linguini alla scoglio, which she said was amazing, and she was happy to have found seafood that was good in this desert state. Then came dessert; I don't do sweets, but according to everyone else at the table, the salted caramel creme brulle was really good. Overall this place is awesome, and we will be dining here again.

Went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. There were more than 20 people and the service was really excellent, especially given the number in our group. I had been here previously and also had good service. We got there for happy hour which is from 3-6pm and appetizers are $5.00 off. The appetizers were a good size portion. I had the shrimp with gazpacho and it was quite good. The bread was especially good-focccia-it came warm and tasted good. I had the veal parmesan which was a really big portion-came with vegetables and penne. The taste was good, there was a lot of cheese The meat was tender but would have preferred less breading on the outside. Everyone else also seemed to enjoy the food. The restaurant is not large and was pretty full when we left. There is outdoor seating and music on Sat. night. We heard the music as we were leaving and it sounded great so would like to go back, sit outside and enjoy the music.

A little out of the way for me but worth the trip. Nice atmosphere. Cozy in size. Great food. Nice staff.

Not bad, but not great. Food under cooked and under seasoned, service was good. Wouldn't protest if a friend really wanted to go; but if they suggested it, I'd suggest somewhere else.

Louie Breakfast: Service was very slow. Food would have been good if it was hot, not cold when it was served.

I feel like a horrid, terrible person for not reviewing this place yet. The food is bloody AMAZING, as is the space/ambience and service. The first local Italian restaurant I tried after moving here a year ago was Zona 78, and I rated them equally highly. Unfortunately, they've taken my favorite dish (Orecchiette Alfredo) off the menu and don't offer anything remotely similar now, so SMOOCH to Caffe Torino for filling in for them with their truly divine Alfredo. Also tried a carbonara special they were offering at lunchtime one day and it was equally orgasmic.

Caffe Torino in the foothills offers a great atmosphere. There is a large outdoor (dog friendly) patio with heat lamps for the winter months. Last night there was even a live performer offering a nice ambiance. The food is fresh and authentic something that's hard to find in Tucson. My only complaint is that the service is pretty slow. Even our appetizers (no cook) took quite some time to arrive. Definitely still worth checking out if your interested in Italian/American cuisine in Tucson!

Updated Review: We love this place! We eat here at least twice per month and are always happy! Our server Michael is amazing and takes the time to make sure our kids are well taken care of--Cafe Torino is our son's favorite restaurant. The gnocchi with bolognese sauce is incredible! The bartender David knows our drink order and has them ready at our table before we even order! Definitely support them--the food and ambience is amazing!

Definitely a great place! The food was expertly prepared and very fresh. It's funny because we went for typical Italian fare and ended up with one of the specials, a beef Wellington. Perfectly cooked. We asked for pasta as a side instead of the potato to sooth our Italian urge...grin. It wasn't a problem. Portions were great. Started with splitting the wedge salad and it was great too. Sorry this review is all over... Probably the highlight though was the staff. They were very attentive but not overly so.... Tesse, our server, was simply great with a great attitude and a real pain for the food and giving the guest great service. Next time we are Tucson, we will be back!!!!

Quick and efficient service, good quality food also reasonably priced. Thank you, it was enjoyable

I have never posted a 1 star NEGATIVE review on Yelp, however, want to let other Yelp users know to 'not waste their time or money at Caffe Torino'! Please read the Yelp user reviews from 2/1/14 and 10/19/14 and believe these reviews. Our group experienced similar 'rude service' and 'good with the bad quality food" that these other reviews mentioned previously. A self proclaimed group of 'foodies' will go elsewhere or 'cook for ourselves' versus spending money and time at Caffe Torino again.

Rarely do I change a review for the worse but my wife and I went in last night after having been there a dozen times and had a really negative experience. It was about 9:10, their published hours state that they are open until 10:00 and we were not treated nicely at all. We sat at the bar among at least a half a dozen other patrons and the bartender said "were closed" but I can let you have ONE drink. Astonishing to me and I have brought clients and family here since the day they opened. Drive the extra few miles to Scordato's on Campbell and River. You will be warmly greeted by their staff and the food is fabulous.

Everything is perfect. From the service to the food and drinks. Marina is amazing and knows her drinks for all ages. The risotto and scallops are so yummy. Lasagna is amazing and not your ordinary lasagna. This is a must when you're in the foothills. Has to be my favorite Italian spot in Tucson! I wrote this on the other caffe torino yelp page due to the address 11 days ago but not sure which page is accurate.

Don't miss Saturday night on the patio...they have live music from a small band that knows just how to entertain a dinner crowd, a must have is the calamari, cooked to perfection. We had one of their home made pasta dishes, so good we'll be returning very soon for more home made Italian food. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I was torn between a 4/5 but decided to go for the 5 stars. Why you ask? THAT BREAD. Now I am getting ahead of myself. My husband and I were planning on skipping a nice meal out this valentine's weekend but circumstances brought us to the Whole Foods and we spied Caffe Torino across the parking lot. We also loved the look of the outdoor area and the fact that it wasn't packed. We decided to change our minds on dining out and I am so glad we did. The service overall was good. Our server was prompt and courteous, though she wasn't the most friendly, though not unfriendly, just.....somewhere in between. We were immediately brought out some of that heavenly bread that my husband and I still can't stop talking about. Our meals were equally as delicious, with me ordering the Linguine allo scogilo and my husband getting the osso bucco. I really liked mine but the star was the osso bucco. The meat was perfect as was the sauce and the risotto. I felt bad that I kept stealing his meal but I couldn't help myself. I can't wait to go back and try all of their other dishes!

Went about a week ago when I was in town for Easter weekend, and it was my second time there. We had the owner's daughter as our waitress, and she was fantastic -- as were all the other people who waited on us (bartender, bus boy). I'm not generally a fan of focaccia, theirs I could eat for ages. While I'm not a big fan of the oil/balsamic accompaniment (because the vinegar always settles to the bottom and all you end up getting is oil-soaked bread - yuck), I'm glad they serve it because if there was butter instead, I know I'd fill up just on the bread! We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and with it comes a small pot of marinara sauce, which is delicious. Again, personal preference would be for an aioli instead but the marinara is AMAZING. My friend had the fillet, which was tender, juicy, and cooked exactly as she requested, and the garlic mashed potatoes that came with were heavenly. I had an orecchiette with sausage and I loved it. In addition I had a side of their spinach, which I think I could live on. If only all dark, leafy greens tasted this good! We never did have room for dessert, but we did manage a few drinks and they were very good. Service there has never been anything but stellar, but my friend lives in the neighborhood, goes there often, and is known to the staff so that may have something to do with the level of service we've received. But isn't that what you want when you frequent a place -- and one of the reasons you go back? I'm greatly looking forward to returning -- for the food, the drinks, and the service.

One of my all time favorites!! I just moved from Oro Valley to the Foothills andI used to love Cafe Torino in Oro Valley, my favorite place for breakfast, but I must admit the service was not consistent. The new Foothills Cafe Torino is spot on!! Great consistent food, Excellent service, and a lovely dining room and bar, and doggie friendly on the beautiful outdoor patio area. My NEW neighborhood favorite, but worth making the trip if you are not on the east side. They always have a yummy daily special for lunch and dinner, and a nice selection of wines. AMAZING dining experience...you won't regret.

Excellent food! I had the spaghetti with tomatoes and mozzarella, mom had the lasagna and dad had the white fish special. We all loved our meals. Michael was an excellent server. I left my phone on the table and didn't realize it until we'd already left the parking lot. We had just pulled back into the lot when we saw Michael in the lot with my phone looking for us! Great customer service! Above and beyond! Thank you!

We experienced quite the mixed bag here for dinner on a Friday night a couple weeks ago. First of all, the ambiance is nice and on the romantic side. They were offering a couple specialty cocktails that evening, one of which was a Mango Mojito--which was mmmmm mmmmm good. And strong! I had 2, but one probably would have been enough ;) We ordered the calamari appetizer which--neither of us being big fish people--we both thought was pretty good. Not fishy at all. Then the main courses came, I had the prosciutto wrapped chicken and it was incredibly salty. I could only eat a couple bites and I didn't take home the leftovers. Maybe the saltiness was typical of a prosciutto dish but I'm no expert on it and it was too salty for me. My hubby felt his entree was equally as mediocre, it was a sausage pasta. Just not a lot of flavor going on there. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was very good (and made this my new favorite dessert!) By the time we finished our dessert it was about 9:20 and the restaurant was completely empty, but for some reason we still waited an additional 15-20 minutes to get our check. Our waiter was great but having to wait so long to get the check when we were the only people left in the restaurant was a little frustrating. Overall, we'd go back for cocktails and/or dessert but for the price of them we'd probably avoid any more entrees.
