First time here and I wasn't super impressed, but the burrito I got was not half bad. I got a vegetarian (trying to eat less meat) and I wasn't wowed by it like I have been at many other fine burrito places in Tucson. It just felt more watery and messy than I would have liked, not as solidly packed with rice, and the vegetables seemed limited. It was also a tad over-priced as it runs $5.50 plus taxes, and that just seemed hefty for what is not a very good burrito. I'd come back but I think I'll stick to the many more well known options around town.

Best breakfast burritos !! Affordable and quick!! The green salsa is also one of the best I've had in Tucson :)

Passing through Tucson and stopped for breakfast. Sometimes its easier to eat Vegeterian in a Mexican restaurant. .. sometimes. I ordered a "veggie" burrito and I asked for no cheese and sour cream. The only veggies are tomatoes and lettuce which I didn't see much of that in my burrito. It was packed with rice and tiny amount of what tasted like water down beans and guacamole. Very tasteless. I ordered an egg and steak burrito for my husband, and all it had was egg and meat and tons of salt. I say stay away from this restaurant if you have a taste for real Mexican food.

Awesome! Bernardos has been my go to lunch spot when I need a quick meal. The burritos here are pretty bomber. There are twenty different varieties- all are meaty, juicy, and only five bucks.

I was in a hurry and downtown. Saw this place and thought "what the hell?" I walk in and the cashier looked like a Hispanic JB Smoove. I felt like it was a privilege to eat there. I ordered a Red Chile burrito and a Chile Relleno burrito, expecting tiny burritos and I wanted to try more than 1 item. They showed up much bigger than I expected. At first I was displeased because the red chile burrito was enchilada style. The red chile burrito said (wet) on the menu, I thought they meant wet meat. I like my burros to be handheld. Anyway it was delicious with a slighty crispy edge to it. The relleno was even better. The relleno was freshly fried so the batter was crispy. The chile was sweet like a green chile should be. The rice and beans in the burrito complimented the relleno just right. The tortilla held its integrity till the last bite. No relleno, beans or rice were wasted. Typical soda machine with horchata and some other drink. Do not expect free refills. There are a couple of salsas, limes and escabeche (carrots, chiles and onions) that are not too bad. I want to go back, but I am rarely in that area during the day.

This is just a short post about the "fish burrito" which is actually made with fish sticks, not with the strips of tilapia they claim to use. Yes, it is a quick, inexpensive lunch option, but if you're expecting real fish in your burrito, you're going to be disappointed. Buyer beware.

That is my co worker's lunch and it was good! We agreed that this restaurant is like a fast food restaurant with reasonable price. It is a good place to eat when you are in rush to eat and go back to work.

Put your expectations closer to Los Betos and you'll be fine. My chimi was a bit on the bland side but definitely not unpleasant, and the rice and beans were nothing to write home about either. I did think their carne asada burrito was very good, but maybe it's just hard to mess up a carne asada. Oddly though they had RC instead of Coke or Pepsi, and even though they're straight from the fountain, don't expect any free refills. Inoffensive, but I'm in no hurry to go back.

Local Mexican food that is pretty low cost AND they added Raspados deserts. As a downtown employee I frequent the lower cost restaurants downtown often. Bernardo's is like our local Los Beto's and similar Mexican food. They have a variety of taco and burrito styles, the cost is about $5-8 depending on your drink and if you get the special. NO FREE REFILLS from the soda and horchata machines, Mexican TV stations, definitely a Mexican American Fast Food Restaurant. The owner/cashier can seem abrupt, but he is helpful and gets the order right. there is a small salsa bar. seating is fast food tables, bath rooms are fine. Recently added a Raspados desert bar. You order and take the ticket to the Food cashier to pay. Try it out, they have many options. Other nearby options for low cost Mexican food for sit down include Alejandro's, Little Poca Cosa and Casa Molina. I was also surprised by AJ's for breakfast burritos.

I had a couple of carnitas tacos and a drink. This place is reasonably priced with a comfortable seating. The carnitas are fried with some guacamole and lettuce and tomatoes. I thought they were just okay. I won't be running back for more anytime soon.

Slightly over priced Mexican food. I ordered the Carne Asada Fries for about $6.50. The portion was extremely small while the Carne tasted excellent. The majority of the menu is between $7.75 - $9.00. No free re-fills on the fountain beverages whaaat???? Seriously? Total bummer. I mean it costs almost $2.00 for a soda and you cannot even give me one refill....yuck! Oh yeah, and to the bald guy running the front register.....get that nasty look off your face. Nobody cares if you are angry at the world because you're a 40yr old working a cash register. Needless to say I won't be dining her again if this gentlemen keeps giving all non Spanish speaking customers evil looks.

Bernardo's is a half a block from where I work so I eat lunch there fairly often. If you want a great lunch fast downtown for under $5.00 head to Bernardo's! I agree with Julia that the carne asada burrito is very good, AND reasonably priced. I also like the 5 taquitos. Either one if these items ordered ala carte is $5.00 or less and pretty darn filling. Bernardo's also has a couple of tasty desserts: the tres leches cake is excellent and the flan is pretty good too. A great $6-ish lunch is the 3 taquitos and the tres leches cake. If you buy a drink the price will be higher. I rate this as good for kids since the food is good and the prices are very fair.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
