I stay here for weeks at a time for TV shoots. It's the only decent place to stay near Nogales. My biggest complaint is that the internet never works. Not good for business stays.

This resort is great. It's amazing how few people are taking advantage of this. Great golf, gorgeous mountain views, hiking trails, tennis, pool, spa, fitness, fine dining, a lounge, and more. I can't believe the rate and value for such a fantastic resort. The dining room views and fireplace were great to see, but the food was even more of surprise. Such a deal, such a secret. If you are looking for a great value, but want to be treated as royalty, visit this resort. We love it.

Stayed here two nights and was not happy. The hotel itself is very old and looks like it too. Our beds had old pillows and a thin comforter that the housekeeping took with them and only left the sheets the second day while cleaning the rooms?? The restaurant is VERY slow. We were one of three tables that came in for breakfast after us and we didn't get our food until after asking where our food was it was cold and we had to track down the server to get our bill. NOT HAPPYfor having to pay for stuff we didn't even eat ordered a danish and It was stale and the oldest danish I have ever tasted- this is NOT "resort food." I would only stay here if you absolutely have to and yes it is better than Nogales, but next time we would rather drive north 30 minutes to Green valley. Not worth the money. The staff is nice, but clueless- when we asked for a pool view and a room in the Quail building (closest to the pool) when we went to our room we found out that we were not only NOT in the building we wanted, but in a room closest to a water drain that ran all night getting NO sleep due to the rain that night.

I looked at the pictures taken by the establishment I guess, and they make this place look like a fabulous wonderful tasteful, beautifully decorated place. Well I wish I could have stayed in the place in the pictures they supplied. The place I stayed in was run down, and dumpy. The parking was about a hundred steps UPHILL to get to the building, then up 3 more flights to our room, and the place looked deserted, empty. Why was I sent to the place with so many steps and more?? The grounds seem to be well taken care of, but I guess it was winter and things seemd a bit sparse. You had to chase staff down in the lobby and well, sorry, I ain't coming back.

I'm so Enamored with the resort's restaurant. They serve a complimentary brunch from 6-9 am that has a Mexican flair. Outstanding. Rooms are very southwestern. Olympic-sized pool so beautiful. Staff so friendly. Can't wait to return!

This place is horrible. It had a fire and didn't close. It is surrounded by a chain link fence. The rooms are stinky and disgusting. I was the only person to stay there. It is a very creepy place. Very dirty. I didn't stay there, I checked in and went to my room and above the bed there was some weird patch job that looked like someone has shot a shot gun in the well. I went to the front desk and checked out. They said if I called Hotels.com where I booked they would refund my money. They didn't they lied. This place is not slendid in anyway. Run very fast.

We got an Amazon Locals deal which included a bottle of wine and a $50 food credit (thank goodness! more in the review). We checked it out before we bought the deal and liked how it looked, rooms were nice (suites), big pool. We even thought about it for our upcoming wedding and thought we'd check it out first. The reception staff was very nice and personable. The hotel itself needs a serious renovation. The rooms are nice on first look, but after being able to stay in the room and see things up close things were not that great. The bed wasn't very comfortable - and the pillows actually smelled a bit like sweat. The shower curtain had something questionable on it that looked very much like a booger! I was very grossed out. I hate to say this about the hotel because the staff was very nice - but it was very dirty. We did use our meal credit for a Valentines dinner. The food was awful. I had heard great things about the restaurant so was sorely disappointed. The meat was under cooked and then after being sent back, overcooked. We just could not eat it. We did enjoy the pool though. The fitness room needs a major overhaul. Unfortunately, unless this hotel has a major cleaning and renovation, I will not be staying here or having my wedding. It would have been really cool to have my wedding in this type of venue though...too bad it left such an awful impression on us. Again, though, the staff was very nice and smiley...the redeeming factor.

I didn't enjoyed so much the decor nor the rustiness of the place but It was nice and neat. In the morning you are awakened by hundreds of birds singing. Also the trails are a nice experience. The weather was really nice. I would visit again around this time of year.

In desperate need of a renovation. Everything is out dated. Old TV, broken fridge. No room service, no pay per view . Beds are horrible.

This is a charming place, perhaps a bit past its prime but still a great place to stay. My king bed room was very nice, very clean. The swimming pool is very large, so if you are interested in laps this is a real find. The veranda looks out over the valley with a beautiful view. The perfect place in the evening to sip a glass of wine. Tennis courts and fitness room. The staff is friendly and courteous. I was greeted promptly when I arrived and was checked out promptly when I left. Definitely will return. My Internet worked fine.

From the the outside this "resort" looks nice, however the amenities including the fitness center(nothing in there was newer than 1991), sauna(I literally can't even), pool(filled bugs and littered with fire wood), and service were extremely poor , two descriptions for this place unkempt and severely outdated! Also our room door didn't shut at all, the most pleasant part was when we left and the ease of getting our refund.

We had a great time here. Enjoyed happy hour and the restaurant. Staff here from the manager Carlos to the housekeeping staff are wonderful and made our stay enjoyable. Golf was fun and we'll be back.

Okay, so let's start with the positives. The view is spectacular. NOTHING can take away from that! It is indeed out dated and quite run down, but still has a certain old world Spanish charm. It was very clean. The breakfast buffet was very good. We were allowed to check in a little early. My husband, sister and brother-in-law and I were down from Phoenix for a day of touring the local wineries. It was the weekend of April 11-12, 2015. At around a hundred bucks, it seemed reasonable. Our needs were simple; a shower, a little TV before bed, a good night's sleep and breakfast. We all had a nice hot shower and a good breakfast, though we were all too tired to enjoy it much. We returned to the hotel around 8:30pm. We were greeted by music so loud, that the bass sometimes shook our walls. My sister-in-law called to complain. She was told that it was a wedding reception (outdoors) and there was nothing that could be done about it except change rooms. Since it was quite a long uphill hike to get to the room, we were already unpacked, we were extremely tired and there was no rational reason to expect the blasting music to be quieter from a different room, we decided to bunk in and wait for it to end. We reasoned we could watch TV and it would probably end at 10pm, right? They would not subject the entire resort to all night music being blasted without telling people about it when they booked, right? Wrong. The television was so old, the picture was terrible and the sound could barely be heard over the thump thump thump of the music that lasted until after midnight. When we met for breakfast the next morning, we all agreed we were too tired to do anything but return to Phoenix straight from the resort. Upon check out, we inquired why the hotel did not tell us in advance abut the reception. We were told that management didn't think it "would be a problem." It was explained that it would have been better for us to be able to make that choice for ourselves since the management and staff were not the ones that had to try and sleep listening to the music until after midnight. When my husband attempted to pay for the two rooms, he found that a hold had been put on his card for nearly $300. Waaaah??????? Did they think we were all going to run up a room service tab? Oh, wait. No room service. VERY annoying and inconvenient. So, the following week I wrote an email to the manager. And I waited for some kind of acknowledgement or reply. No response. I like to be fair and reasonable, but, yes, I do expect some kind of acknowledgement. Any waiver I might have experienced in regards to returning evaporated after a few weeks of silence.

My boyfriend and I were staying here for a wedding. I called a month in advance to book the room and mentioned that I would be staying there for a wedding. Upon booking, I asked two people that I spoke with about checking in at 12 PM, instead of 3(I was willing to pay extra). I was told that this would not be a problem. I then called a day before just to confirm, and was again told that this would not be a problem, I was provided with room number, 302 and advised that a note would be added to my reservation. When getting to the hotel to check in, I was immediately told no. I explained the situation, and provided the room # and was again in short, told, no. We had a long drive that morning, and had to end up getting ready in a bathroom stall in the lobby of the hotel. It would of been nice for my reservation to be looked at, or an apology since this is what I had been told previously. Once we got checked to room 302, the room was fine, and we had a great time at the wedding, but the customer service was very disappointing to say the least.

We were so excited to come here and hopefully have found a wedding venue, sadly it was far from that. We struggled to find the locations of the beautiful pictures online! There is no golf course! If you want to find dirty underwear in the parking lot, fake plants in the fountain, stale chips served with every meal, and a leaking roof then this is the place for you! Photoshop was done for the pics! Instead of the 100 dollar incidental fee to be taken out on hold 292 was taken out. When we spoke to the manager be assured us he would call the bank. Two days later nothing, he wouldn't even come out from the back office to talk to us, a snippy girl with short hair told us to deal and the bank with reimburse it whenever they get to it, very rude girl. Food was below subpar, desserts served still frozen in the inside. Not the best experience save yourself some money and skip this place. A more expensive motel 6 is all this is except for breathtaking views.

I stayed here for five days while attending a conference. Pretty crappy service all around. Housekeeping was not very thorough. On one day they didn't bother to come by at all! There are no movies to rent, only tv. The screen on the porch window fell apart, as did the toilet paper holder. We had to call and wait for someone to deliver towels and coffee cups on one day. Pretty disappointing.

I purchased a Groupon awhile back for a weekend trip here. I ended up reading the reviews for this place on our way up and it kind of scared me. We were pleasantly surprised. The place is beautiful. Gorgeous views and grounds. The food was very good and service was great! Our room was also nice. Yes, it does need some updating, but it looked like they are trying. We would definitely stay there again and especially for the price.

Exquisite resort and golf course! Great decor and well manicured. Breath taking views. I would highly recommend the Esplendor Resort and Rio Rico Golf Course to anyone. The staff is irreplaceable too!

This time, I stayed for several nights in a row, and got a chance to try several different morning's worth of breakfast, which I would say is one step above what you'd get at a Hampton Inn. I also used the pool during this trip. Yep, in February. When it snowed the same day in Nogales. The pool is heated, but it's not that heated, which is good for lap swimming (since that keeps you warm), but definitely not for lounging, though I've heard it's quite the attraction for the area in the summer. The power went out the first morning we were there, right as I started drying my hair, which had me thinking that I'd blown a fuse. Fortunately, I had my cell phone near by to light the way. And the restaurant already had breakfast prepared and in the chaffing dishes, so it wasn't too cold. Based on the nonchalant attitude of the staff, this probably happens fairly often, so I suggest that you keep your mobile close by as well.

INSANELY GREAT SERVICE! Out of this world insanely great service. World Class. Bar none! If you are south of Tucson and you choose to stay ANYWHERE but here you have made a terrible mistake (seriously, there really are no other valid options). Before I explain what just happened let me sell you on my expertise. I travel the State of AZ for a living. I have been to literally every town in this state that has a court, and more than a few times to each city. I know this state, and I have never had this kind of top shelf service from the ground crew to all the way up to management. I am still just in awe of what just transpired. So here we go ... I check into my room for the week and nearly instantly get a Tweet saying "Hope you are enjoying your stay at Esplendor". (from the parent company @HeritageHtls). I must have tweeted about checking in ... and the social media employee was ON IT! Now if your not on the receiving end of such a message you may just think "oh yeah, so what?" But let me tell you, that's not the effect you FEEL when getting something like that right out of the blue. You WILL feel touched by what may seem like such a small overture. You feel they really DO care. The following eve. I return to my hotel and there is a Do Not Disturb sign on my door. I think to myself that's odd, I try my keys and they don't work. So I go to the front desk, let the young man know and he's very apologetic, gives me new keys and I enter my pristine room. I instantly freak out thinking I left my Passport (where in reality I did NOT leave it) and jumped to the wrong conclusion that it was stolen. So I rush to the Front Desk in full-on panic mode. The clerk immediately gets the Front Desk Manager CECILIA LUNA and she comes to me with a look of INTENSE CONCERN. The kind you could not possiblely fake. Instantly she was on the phone to track down housekeeping and doing everything she could to assure me that she would get to the bottom of this, AND RIGHT NOW! Me, still in panic mode, I tweet what I thought just happened and in SECONDS I get a reply "Hi Dave, I'm calling the property manager to expedite your issue". Two seconds later I realized right before leaving I HAD indeed moved my Passport. I tweet back, but it was two late, within 2 minutes (I shit you not!) DAVE MILLER the GM was calling my room. Now just think about that! This Dave Miller must have been at home enjoying his LIFE, as he should be, and instantly, unseromoneosly he is launched into "work" and does it with ZERO hesistation. Now think about how I made Cecilia feel and all that she really cared about was ME and it was plain to see all over her face. This woman honestly and truly CARED ABOUT ME AND MY (bullshit) SITUATION. And she was so honest and so sincere and frankly she couldn't have hid it or faked it if she tried. Now think about this early stage in Social Media and how few enterprises "get it", and how even fewer employees have mastered it. @HeritageHtls gets it and clearly has it down to a science. These three individuals are in no way regular employees punching a clock. These three are EXCEPTIONAL customer service representatives that go WAAAAAAY beyond the call of duty. They are EXCEEDING thier own bosses expectations (and if they arent their bosses are asking far too much of them) and frankly in my opinion, they Damed well should be rewarded for thier exceptional service. But collectively they have produced an outstanding service that the best resorts in the world should envy. And if you work in the industry and are looking for theeeee best at what they do ... I'd be poaching CECILIA LUNA, DAVE MILLER, and the social guru behind @HeritageHtls. But something tells me, this entire company "gets it" and aren't letting these superstars out of thier grips anytime soon. This maybe the best run enterprise West of the Mississippi! MAJOR KUDOS ALL AROUND, TOP TO BOTTOM.

We stayed for three nights. I will note that I didn't alert management to any of my complaints mainly because I didn't want to deal with it with toddler in tow and because I was curious whether housekeeping had any element of quality control (it didn't). I made our reservations months and months ago in conjunction with a conference for a king size bed with roll away...what did we get? Two doubles. So I can say goodbye to any idea of personal space while my daughter sleeps in one bed and my husband and I are crammed into the other. A call to the front desk resulted in absolutely nothing other than a weak response of "your reservation holds a room, not a type of room"...really? Check in to the room and it is rather run down. Threadbare sheets showing holes, pillows have seen better days, and the mattress definitely sags in the middle (especially if you cram two adults onto it). The AC unit has no hope of keeping up with the heat, it was cranked for three days and the room is still stuffy and warm. The cupboard doors on the tv/fridge cabinet will not stay closed and when open they block the hallway so we've had to tie them shut, which makes them super convenient at keeping me out of the fridge I suppose. Bath tub plug will not hold water, the toddler doesn't care as it makes baths shorter than I'd like but I would prefer not to keep water running to take a bath. Ironically enough the tub also doesn't drain so when you shower you're standing in about three inches of water. Add to this I get to fix the toilet myself every third flush, half the weight equipment in the gym is broken to the point of presenting a true hazard, and the fabled jogging trail dead ends less than a half mile down the road. Swimming pool filled with dead bees, dying wasps, and general detrius. Towels weren't fully replenished (after check in we got new body towels only, no hand towels or wash cloths), neither were the soaps and no lotion provided at all. Patio chairs missing cushions. Gorgeous views but not gorgeous enough to make up for the room. Upon checking out I was asked how my stay was and I said "alright I guess" which was met with an enthusiastic "oh good!"

This is a beautiful place to visit, the view is one of the best in the area. Food is very good, service good, although we have just eaten from the bar menu the view is worth the trip and the meal.

I've had to stay here several times for work and I don't think I would ever stay here on my own volition. The grounds and pool are nicely kept, and the service is good, but the rooms are really run down and old looking. The a/c units are extremely loud and prone to short cycling. The food is average to poor, with breakfast being the highlight, but nothing spectacular.

Visited on a getaway with my wife on an Amazon Local deal. Here's the good: 1. Great mountain views. Ask for a room that faces north/northeast. We stayed on the 3rd floor (note: no elevators). 2. Quiet resort. 3. About a mile walk to a few restaurants (check out pizza place and Nickel's Diner. Both were good). 4. Pool and hot tub were kept up to date and were nice. 5. Bar served an Esplendor Draft that I had both days. Good happy hour prices. Free popcorn to munch on too. 6. Breakfast was good, but overpriced. Glad someone passed me a corporate voucher so it was free. 7. Staff was nice. 8. Tennis courts were not in resort shape, but playable. The not so good: 1. Desperately needs more updates. This is an old resort and it shows. 2. The walking trails are not kept by the grounds crew. 3. Comfort of the bed was average. Sheets were nice. 4. Dinner was WAY over-priced and had no taste. For a 25+ dollar meal, Denny's would have been better (that hurts to type). NY strip lacked taste, baked potato wasn't very soft and Mexican veggie dish was bland. My wife had the 'manager's favorite' shrimp pasta dish and it was also bland. 5. While walking back from Nickel's diner for lunch, a car was chased in by the cops. Drug runners. They ditched the car in some bushes and one suspect got away. Watched the cops ATV around the mountain and search a nearby development from my balcony for about a half hour. I don't think they caught him. Epic story though! Bottom line. Choose wisely. If you can find a deal to come, it might be worth it to lay by the pool. Don't expect much from the restaurant or room though. Our Amazon deal was for 2 nights, $129. We had a free bottle of wine and $50 dining credit included. Totally worth it to us for 2 nights.

Beautiful resort, it's too bad they don't spend a little money and time fixing it up with some paint and new carpet! But for $79/night, I highly recommend it. The restaurant/bar on site is good, I was surprised there wasn't more Mexican food available being so close to the border. The expensive (over $20) dinners were not complete as indicated in the description - sauces were always missing - and when they say it comes with calabacitas, they mean 3 slices of squash and a dribble of corn, so don't get too excited! The dining room was very outdated and that's really something they should fix up. They do offer room service, but our menu was missing out of our book, so we did not partake. Prices were reasonable and with Tubac close by it's a great getaway weekend.

Never go here. Resort? Nope, not even close. This place looks like a dilapidated run down SECTION 8 housing project with a pool. Don't let the lobby fool you, whe you get to your room you'll see. Felt like I stepped back into a 1980's style Sante Fe NO TELL MOTEL. If you are doing something in Nogales and need to spend the night- the Holiday Inn and other lower star places are WAY nicer. Wish I could get my money back- misleading in the advertising. Should NOT be associated with any large travel site like Expedia, Orbitz, or Travelocity.

My wife and I just took advantage of the $125.00 all inclusive special which, with tax, came to about $265.00 for 2 nights including 8 drink tickets, and meal tickets (2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners). There was no restriction on entrees so we could, if we had wished, have ordered the $35.00 filet mignon on both nights. Anyway you calculate it: the meals and drinks alone add up to a value of well over $220.00 - so the deal was definitely a "Gonga" Barn swallows swooping low over the pool getting ready for their migration back the South America. A a panoramic view from the north side of the property over the green Santa Cruz river valley to the 5000 ft San Cayetano Mountains in the east. OK, so the buildings are a little dated - kind of 1970's California Condo style - but they have aged gracefully and blend agreeably into the well-landscaped oleander and rose gardens surrounding the clean and immaculately maintained pool. Adjacent fully equipt exercise room and Nordic Sauna. Interiors are decorated in Mexican kitsch with colorful tiles and carpets - slightly dated but clean. Old crt TVs and noisy in-room AC but both work great. Fantastic service from very cheerful waiters, reception and bar staff. One reviewer complains about the religious decorations which did not bother me (although I do have reservations about the Catholic Church's treatment of Galileo), I am not bothered by iconography like the Virgin of Guadalupe. (in fact the phoney Kiva Ladders in the bathroom were more offensive to my eye). A great value for a weekend get-away.

Great Huevos Rancheros - two eggs over two corn tortillas with chorizo inside covered with salsa and melted cheese. Did some swimming in the pool. Pretty landscaping, fountains, ramadas, outstanding views. Great for a getaway weekend or group retreat.

Went here to treat my Mom to a special breakfast for Mother's Day... was anything but special! They must have been short staffed, the available tables were dirty when we arrived, we sat ourselves because we were not greeted at the front. After 30 minutes of waiting, had to get up to get the server to take our order. Was very disappointed with the quality of service- will not recommend this place if you want a special meal.

I am definitely a fan of Esplendor Resort. My husband and I have visited it each of the last three years and we always have a great time. It's true that the facility shows it's age a bit but it is still a great get-away in a gorgeous part of the state. The pool is great, the rooms are nice and clean and well decorated. Beds and pillows are great with quality bedding. The bathrooms could us a bit of updating but they're completely functional. We always eat in the bar and find it both very good and extremely reasonable. My husband loves the Chile Rellano and can't seem to bring himself to try anything else but at only about $9, who's complaining!! The staff is competent and friendly. Unless you're someone who expects everything to be absolutely perfect, you're going to delighted with your stay. Except for it's age and deferred maintenance especially on the grounds, I'd give it five stars. As it is, it's a good strong four!

So, this place isn't horrible. Its not great, either. But it has potential to be great. My first impression was when I stood at the check in counter for approximately 4 minutes, and when no one ever came to greet us and check us in, I started wandering about to find help. I spent a lot of time on the outside patio adjacent to the saloon and restaurant. Great views and ample outdoor seating. One of the mornings I was there, I asked for Bailey's and coffee and they did not have Bailey's (hmm, not very "resort like"). The internet/WIFI blows! In fact, when I finally "connected" I had one "bar" and it was ridiculously slow, and then I was kicked off. SO I had to resort to my smartphone for the trip. In this day and age, high speed internet at a hotel/resort is a must. Thankfully I didn't have "work" to do on my laptop, so it was more of a minor inconvenience. Decent music hums out of the outdoor patio speakers at the bar/restaurant, however, it's a radio station...So the commercials every couple minutes were rather annoying. An upgrade to satellite radio or one of the cable music channels would be great. Heck even a six disc changer would be better than listening to commercials. The food was average, at best. The service, average to good. The room was clean, albeit showing its age. I was happy that my room came with my own private covered patio, with two chairs and a little side table. Sitting on the patio and watching the rain and thunder was epic! The TV's in the rooms are abysmal. They are the old bulky black tvs from the 90's and the remote control was so worn and old, you couldn't even decipher the buttons. The bed was super comfy and the a/c was rockin'! I love the grounds and the views..its very quiet here.. which kinda concerns me... It was pretty much a ghost town. We were told it was the slow season, so maybe they are so swamped during the fall, that it makes up for things during the summer. The lack of people was fine by me, but im sure not good for business. The ice maker closest to my room was broken, so I had to wander about the property looking for one that was functioning. (How about a sign on the broken machine, and then directions to one that does work..just a suggestion folks). The outdoor patio tables had these cheesy "Bud Light Lime" Umbrellas...That just screams free Bud swag, instead of classy resort umbrellas with no beer logos! I enjoyed my stay, but something is missing, here. I almost had that feeling that they would be closing their doors for business in the near future...Few employees, and fewer guests. I think they need to get that hotel/resort saver guy from that reality show here and save this place. I read a review that said it was one step up from a Hampton Inn, and I think that is close to accurate. I think it's a bit of a stretch to call Esplendor a "resort" , but with some tweaks, I think they can get back on course Also, the pictures on the website are not very accurate. Perhaps those were taken long ago when everything was freshly remodeled...

I stay here when on business. Nice place, it's been remodeled, but everytime I come something goes wrong. The last visit the water main broke so there was no water from about 3 pm to evening. Wish I had known before I jumped in the pool before dinner. Otherwise its the only decent place to stay in the area.

Would I suggest this place for a vacation? Probably not, but let's say you have to travel to Nogales for business, you've got 5 choices: 1. Esplendor (best choice) 2. Holiday Inn (in Nogales, AZ) 3. Fiesta Inn (in Nogales, Mex) 4. Postpone your trip if all of the above hotels are booked full 5. Stay anywhere else on either side of the border (worst choice) They do have a strange booking system, so if the website says they're full, call up and they'll probably have something available anyway. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, the sheets are soft, the pool is nice, and the tap water is safe to drink. I can't say that for most other places in the local area. The restaurant has good food, though the service is usually slow. As far as coming here for vacation, I don't see much appeal to this area besides the weather. I guess it's a good place to go if you want to send your wife off to some massuese while you play a round of golf, but I'm not married and I don't play golf.
