I have no idea why Tara Thai has gotten such bad reviews... maybe they are all Thai House fans - which is ok, I love that place as well!! I went on Valentine's Day with a party of 6 and we all LOVED our food. Literally everything we ordered was full of flavor and we wanted more. We ordered the Kom Ka soup, Coconut Princess, Sweet Grand Canyon (Green Curry), Kao Pad Prik and something I think called the Taste of Thailand which was an appetizer sampler platter. We all shared each others food and everything was excellent tasting! After dinner we then ordered two desserts to share, one coconut cheesecake with cranberry and another chocolate torte with coconut ice cream.... wow so good! The only criticism would be the Thai tea was really sweet. I'd recommend it as well as Thai House Cafe. They offer two different styles of Thai food that are excellent!

My husband and I ate at the Tara Thai restaurant for the first time last week and our food was very tasty. I had yellow curry with number 4 heat. Spicy just how I like it. My husband had sweet and sour fish and enjoyed it. The servers were cordial and efficient. The setting was delightful, though the carpet and fire place could use some attention. The skylight over the Buddha has a gaping hole into what I assume is the attic which is unsightly and most likely allows dirt to fall in to the dining area. The only real complaint we have pertains to their "Happy Hour". When we asked about the happy hour specials, our server told us that it was only for customers setting at the bar. We asked ourselves why a service oriented establishment would give a price break to customers dropping a few bucks for a couple of drinks and not extend that same value to the customers dropping about $25 a head to eat a meal. Sounded a bit ungrateful to us as those who were just drinking received better pricing than the customers paying to dine. It was also a bit odd that the "Happy Hour" was advertised at the dining table but was not available to the dining customers. Again, our food was tasty and we enjoyed our meal. We will certainly go back again, but we will visit the bar for happy hour before sitting down to dine.

Great ambiance. The panang was horrible and the service was worse. Nobody in the restaurant and still rotten service. Too bad, they were great in the valley.

My husband and I have been here a few times. The first 3 times it was great! We loved it and were so happy that prescott had a good restaurant. Coming from a big city with lots of great restaurants, we were desperate to find something good here. However, with time, it seems more and more disappointing. There is no consistency in the food. We order the same thing every time and every time it's very very different form the previous. Idk if there gas been a change in chef or what. The curry the past couple of times is terribly runny. Like water. Curry is supposed to be thick and creamy and it was at first but not anymore. My husband gets the seafood soup. Different every time he gets it. So we won't be going to Tara anymore unfortunately :( we'll have to continue searching for a good restaurant out here.

I really wanted to LOVE this place. However, I am used to Thai food in LA - huge portions and amazing food. The ambience - amazing Service - slow Food - decent We ordered two staple Thai meals - pad tai and chicken coconut soup. The soup was tasty but the pad thai noodles were over cooked and the portion was a joke. As a former restaurant operator, I know that the cost of noodles can justify a larger portion. We also ordered appetizers - again, just decent. I will go back because of the ambience - it's a good date place. However, all together, all I can say is DECENT.

Very nice restaurant with top notch ambiance and bar service with good Thai food. Chimay on tap and a good wine list. The service was attentive and unhurried and quite friendly. The star part of the meal was a very good soup with s great presentation with a flaming bowl. I found the soup very tasty and really hit the spot. Not being a Thai aficionado I was quite satisfied those who eat a lot of Thai in New York or LA might find it a bit underwhelming. Overall it is a solid 4 stars and would like to come back and try more things.

Went for lunch with my mom. We ordered appetizers and salads. She loved it! I was a little disappointed in how sweet everything was, as far as the dips, sauces and dressings they came with. Imagined it would be a bit more balanced as Thai is supposed to be hot, sour, sweet and savory. Thought I would be having a "healthy, light lunch" and though it was tasty, I felt it was WAY too sweet. Certainly didn't need dessert after! I am willing to try one more time and and try something completely different, though I am not encouraged by the other reviews here. They won't last long in that beautiful, high rent district if they keep doing what they're doing.

Just love it here!!! Finally something trendy in Prescott!! Had a fantastic dinner with chicken satay. Panang curry , Arizona heat. Just fantastic. We ate at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive and personable. That for the great night ladies.

We had dinner last night at this wonderfully located, charming restaurant for the first time. No reservation, but no problem on a Sunday night, plenty of open tables after the initial rush we were seated after a 10 minute wait at 6:30. The 3 of us shared the Thai combo appetizer, the Tom Ka soup, Coconut Princess curry, Pad Thai, Pad Raum Mit and brown rice. On the 1-4 heat scale we ordered ours a 3, which turned out to be be a true Thai 1. I recommend the 4 if you like spice. The food was excellent, vegetables nice and fresh, meats in the dishes were tender and the flavors were exquisite. Only awarding 3 stars due to the lack of spice, inattentive and slow service and the women were disappointed with the quality and cleanliness of the restroom. I am confident that the next time we are in town the Tara Thai staff will have it together - they have the core right which would be the quality of the food.

Great food and service in downtown Prescott! We eat a lot of Thai, and we were pleasantly surprised by curries and Tom Ka that were spot on along with efficient and friendly service. They also have created a lovely ambiance and menu that feels like "up town Thai". Food prices were reasonable, drink prices seemed a bit high. Would definitely come back.
(4)John B.
Very good Pad Thai, noodles perfect, beef tender and flavorful. They use a scale of 1-4 as an ordering heat guide with 4 being "Thai Hot". If you've had Thai food prepared by a person from Thailand it would be a 6 on their scale, so ask for extra if youre looking for real heat. Kinda pricey for Prescott locals, but the quality justifies the price. I really like interior design. Well spaced, 5 or 6 four tops with 5 booths seating four comfortably. They could likely accomodate a group up to 24/30. High ceiling, fountain, a pool in the front with a large buddha statue with cool/mellow music. Very good date location or place for two couples to meet for dinner. The interior temp is comfortable and light is muted, so its a great place to take a break from shopping or walking the square. They have a nice bar. Not really a place for kids and I didn't notice anything on the menu for children. Overall, nice place, good service, good food. I live here and I'll be back.

Went here for lunch. I seriously can't believe some of the reviewers on here! We had already stepped into the restaurant before I looked at yelp reviews. It is a great looking restaurant. Very relaxing! I usually look to see what dishes people recommend. Basically, all the reviewers agreed that the food was not as spicy hot as expected to be and the chocolate torte was the best. We ordered chai teas, done to perfection and sweet just as they should be! For an appetizer the chicken skewers with peanut sauce. The Peanut sauce is the best and just as I remembered from the PV restaurant! Entrees were yellow curry and coconut princess. Both were excellent. The yellow curry, my favorite, had a few flavors that were all identified in one taste. Curry, coconut, a Thai chili pepper, and pumpkin. They all blended together nicely! The coconut princess was a blend of these flavors: Thai spices with coconut and lemongrass. The lemongrass was very mild but definitely distinguishable and interesting. We had plenty to eat! Even my Marine son in law! And, of course, we tried the chocolate torte! Very good! With coconut ice cream too!

Visiting family from so.cal . The food, the service and the atmosphere, 5 Stars!! Thank you Doug for the excellent service!!!
(5)Kaccie L.
Used to be great, and actually had an authentic Thai feel (not to mention Thai servers). I guess the owner had a change of heart and changed the entire staff to be all white. This is Prescott, so no one would really care (sad but true). I'm going to keep a close eye on this guy's hiring practices!
(1)Larissa G.
Tara has a good vibe and really lovely decor. The live music was good and added to the trendy ambience. The spicy seafood curry was cooked to perfection however spicy is 3 or 4 on the scale and not 2 as i thought :) The waitrons were friendly and offered great suggestions.
(3)Shelly M.
I really love the ambiance, it is so nice to be right downtown & have a view of the courthouse (& the Christmas lights this time of year). The food is really AMAZING! I have had the spicy seafood curry & the Hao *** sup a rod (not sure of the name I just remember it sounded like the title of a Thai porno movie!) & most of the appetizers, satay is good, love the spring rolls & of course the combo appetizer plate is really good! Everything tastes so fresh & flavorful, I know some of the other reviews say the portions are small but I always have enough for a yummy lunch the next day. Both times our server was Josh & he is really on it, I will try to sit in his section every time I go there... Now for the BAD & the only reason I would not give them 5 stars.... When we were there last night there was a female employee chatting it up & flirting with two loud men at the bar! She was not behind the bar, but on the customer side? Bouncing around all theatrical like, showing them things on her phone laughing & giggling.... it was really disruptive! I want to assure you that loud restaurants do not bother me at all & people having fun is awesome but they would have been better placed at a bar on Whiskey Row :( Imagine my surprise when asking on my way out about the employee to find out she is the front house manager!!! :'-(

When this restaurant was in Prescott Valley, we enjoyed the food and simple atmosphere. At their new location in Prescott, the atmosphere is incredible, however, the food does not match up with the price. Each dish (lunch) was in the $14 per plate range. The salad was probably out of Costco's pre-mix package. The garlic chicken was filled with a ton of canned mini-corn. Well, I tried this place, I don't need to come back.

We had a wonderful dinner last night. The moment we walked in, we went, Wow!" The interior is great. The modern raised koi pound running down the center of the restaurant is a wonderful touch and very relaxing, with a gorgeous carved Buddha at the end. So cool. The overall design is upscale, beautiful, and the soft music is perfect. This is definitely the nicest restaurant in Prescott. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We ordered 2 appetizers, both excellent: Coconut shrimp and the Taste of Thailand platter. Both tasted great and were price reasonably. Each of us ordered a different entree. I had a stir fry with a variety of vegetables and cashews with fried Tofu cubes in a Housin sauce. I ordered a level 2 hot spices, it was perfect. I can't wait to go back and order it again. It was delicious. The other 3 dishes were pad Thai, pork belly with black forbidden rice, and the vegetables with glass noodles. Everybody loved their entree. For dessert, we ordered the coconut ice cream in a banana boat with drizzled chocolate, along with the mango and sticky rice. We enjoyed both and would order them again. The entrees ranged from approx $12-$16 which seemed appropriate. We are so happy to have this restaurant in Prescott and will definitely return. I highly recommend it!

Wish I could give it a -20. Ordered wonton soup. Skins of the wontons might as well have been made out of thick cardboard, glue and all. They sure were pasty. And the salt; think the cook pored a whole shaker in: And I like salt but this made my stomach hurt from so much salt and nothing else but salt. Server was upset and rolled her eyes when she came by to ask how the food was and I told her. She did bring me another dish. Again the only flavor in the food was a massive amount of salt and nothing else. Not eatable. She asked what level of 'heat/spice" I wanted I said one. Only thing I got was a infinity of salt. There was no other spice in the food. Physical surroundings are lovely. They should pay more attention to the food rather than the decor. I can't eat decor. NEVER AGAIN!!! After writing my review I read the others. "Overwhelm" the kitchen - really. People don't open an obviously expensive restaurant if you don't have a qualified kitchen staff. This might be a little town but people still have taste buds. Guess they don't read their reviews. They might when the restaurant is forced by the public to close down. Just realized this is the first yuck Thai restaurant I've ever been to. Thai food had become synonymous with good food in my mind. No thanks, for bursting that myth.

Wanted to try the new Tara Thai location , had been to the old one in Prescott Valley and frankly that place was a dump . The new location is beautiful very nicely decorated a nice looking eatery .unfortunately this has come at a price , my girlfriend and I shared an appetizer plate , two drinks and one entree that we split ( two dollar charge for plate sharing ) bill came to $39.88 with tip $8 47 bucks for a drink appetizer and half plate of food . If your interested in eating and not paying for the decor try Toy Thai in Prescott Valley . This place is way too spendy !
(2)Arthur S.
Great food, seasoned perfectly. Had the sup-pa-rod and the coconut princess it was all delicious. The service was prompt and attentive. Oh....but wait there was Pho' that's right Pho'!!!! The only Pho' in town and it also was pretty good. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
(4)Diana D.
Had dinner last night, naked calamari appetizer was bland...tempura plate was good, yellow curry just okay. Fried rice plate was okay...not in love with the food
(3)Greg W.
Great ambiance. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the live entertainment. How refreshing! The bartender were friendly & attentive. The hostesses were friendly & remembered us from our last visit. The food was very delicious and fairly priced. If anything the value here is very good compared to any other place USA. What a nice addition to our cuisine selections here in Prescott.r
(5)Ally M.
horrible food!! the only good dishes we got was the pad thai and papaya salad.. me, my mom and dad, spent $75! for dishes we ended up not eating!
(2)Joe P.
I dunno. This place was supposed to be good. Went there twice. First time not bad. They give you a choice of how spicy you want your food. I picked a three. Had pan Thai with chicken. It wasn't too hot. Went there a second time and ordered the same thing but wanted to have the food a Two. ( not in the mood for heat) It came out so spicy I couldn't eat more then 1/3. Begs the question. Too many cooks in the kitchen?? Also. The waitress dropped a huge stack of dirty plate right next to our table. Sauce and food went everywhere including my girls expensive new shirt. Didn't even acknowledge it. Like I said. I dunno. Won't go back, that I know.
(1)Tarah W.
We had eaten here numerous times and the food was outstanding. Then they changed the menu and took off most of their best dishes such as the papaya salad, the slide rock salad and Ka brow. Sadly we will not be returning. Shame.

I had friends visiting from out of town and we wanted to go somewhere nice to celebrate a birthday. My friends like Thai and I hadn't eaten here before. Well yes, the decor is nice- fancy even. But the food...just so -so. Only one of the three of us kind of liked their meal, taste-wise. I did 't even care about taking the leftovers home. Besides that, smallish portions off the main menu, skimpy on the amount of meat (we all said "where's the chicken, shrimp of our dishes). Vegetables looked tired and pre-prepared. Slow service with very few folks there. It seemed a shame. Frank Sinatra style music played the whole time- not really our thing and we found it a bit odd for an Asian restaurant. I'm not comparing them to any other Thai place in town. I wouldn't go back, except perhaps for a drink at the pretty bar.
(2)Myra W.
Absolutely delightful lunch! Had coconut princess with chicken and brown rice. A lovely, mildly curry dish with a creamy coconut sauce. Paired with a Chardonnay and the coconut ice cream for dessert, made for a wonderful dining experience! And the ambiance was beautiful, too, sitting next to Buddha and the koi pond! Try it, you'll love it!
(5)J D.
Not really sure what all the bad reviews are about. The ambiance is spectacular, the drinks are tasty, and the service is great ! I came here with my wife and the food was AMAZING. We started off with the naked calamari, it was lemony and very flavorful and the calamari was cooked to perfection. My wife had the ribs and loved them(the pink sauce tasted just as good as it looked on the plate) and the purple fries were wonderfully sweet and salty! I had the pork belly, it was crispy, succulent and the black and red sauce was to die for! Dessert was my favorite part, probably the best chocolate torte I've ever had (I lived in France for 8 years), and the coconut ice cream was pretty good too. My wife had the banana boat and was very very satisfied. We also exchanged words with a very polite young man with a curly mustache(I'm guessing the chef) who not only brought us our desserts but explained in EXTREME detail what we were eating and the ingredients in them. Next time we are in Prescott Arizona this restaurant will be our first stop!
(5)Deborah A.
2 stars is generous for Tara Thai. The service is disorganized and the waitstaff generally seem to lack the proper training to offer good service. The food is mediocre at best. The decor is fine but as one reviewer said, "I can't eat decor" Went there today, they had misplaced our reservation, the wait was long, the restaurant was noisy, the food was poor with little flavor besides over-salty or over-sweet. I will not return to this restaurant.
(2)Riley T.
Went in today for dinner and had a great meal! First time I went I swore I'd never be back. But I was really suprised tonight. Really good. Had pad Thai and the appetizer plate. Yummy.
(5)Caleb R.
Great Thai place in Prescott. The food is very good and the atmosphere is very nice as well. They recently remodeled and I really liked the new look. The price was reasonable, about $13 on average per meal. The service was good and the food came quickly. Would recommend!
(4)A M.
Utterly disappointed!!!!! The Pad Thai had no flavor to speak of. Absolutely none! We asked for level 3 for spice level, just 1 below Thai hot. Extremely bland plus our order was not prepared right. We specifically asked for no chicken and guess what? It was full of chicken chunks with no flavor. The noodles were mushy and clumped together - overcooked. Portion sizes are not at all generous. Certainly not for $14 a plate. The spring rolls were also flavorless. Thai food is supposed to be the confluence of 4 flavors - salty, sweet, spicy and tangy. I only tasted sweet. The only saving grace was the Thai iced tea and the gracious server.
(1)Jerry K.
Nice place, beautiful wait staff but bland small portions..13 dollars for a really small fried rice? Then we get to that big band and crappy retro jazz music.....what the heck
(2)angel j.
Lots of fluff! An upgrade in atmosphere from Prescott valley location however does not justify $$. Portions are smaller and an average of 4-5 dollars more per plate. No variety of chili sauces only powder! Prepackaged Salad served with meal with little or no dressing. Soup mediocre. 30.00 for lunch for two , left semi hungry :(. Not sure if I'll give it another try. Too many other Thai options in area with better food and prices.
(2)carol c.
There were six in our party and we all had a different dish. We had no leftovers to take home. This should tell you how good the food is here. The portions are average. One of the people in my party has gluten allergies and they were able to accommodate her without any issues. The ambiance is beautiful. The wait staff professional. I do have a few comments for some small improvements. First the men's bathroom had no paper towels . Second they had no toothpicks and lastly I asked for a takeout menu and they said they did not have any but I could find it on their web site. These are minor details and not enough to sour me on this restaurant. I will definitely be returning to Tara Thai soon!
(4)Mark E.
Anyone who thinks this place is good has never eaten thai food before in their life. This place does not even slightly compare to even the most mediocre thai food in town. Everything is bland, small portions, and way over priced. The only reason this place gets 2 stars is for the remodel. Hopefully someone with actual restaurant experience can take this over and make it into something good.
(2)Calluna B.
We had a great experience and will definitely return. The Pad Thai was outstanding. I was happy to have a dish that was actually spicy - that was the spice level I wanted and expected! Spicy dishes are so often not even remotely spicy. My friend had the Black Pepper Tofu - also outstanding and beautifully presented. I tried the coconut sake - really delicious! It was a bit sweet and would almost be a good dessert drink. The service was great and we really liked the atmosphere. It's open, but not loud like most open restaurants.
(5)Starla S.
I use to love the Prescott Valley Tara Thai and so when I heard they were moving to Prescott I was so excited but after have a few take outs from there I no longer think it's the best in town. Of course It is very pretty inside compared to the old one but that now their menu is so different. Prices even at lunch is too high. I think They did well because of their old menu and so I just don't get why they would make such big changes. This last time went I got the Tom yum soup. it use to be my absolute favorite but they have changed that too of course to where I feel like I waisted my $ coming back to this place. Very disappointed!
(2)Ryan S.
Im not even sure where to begin for the review. My overall idea for writing it is to save everyone in Prescott not only the money, but also the time from their lives that they may waste from coming here. The only pro from this restaurant may be the fact that they did an amazing job redoing the space that it is in. So to start out the horrible experience that we had at this "fine dining" thai restaurant was the appetizer that was $12 and literally had 6 items, two of them being pieces of shrimp. So thank you for TWO pieces of shrimp, one spring roll cut in half, and two wantons for $12, a plate that couldn't even fill a child as a full meal. The tea that came out in cold tap water, which was sent back for hot tea, which is obviously what we originally ordered. Or that the actual entrees we ordered,1 of the items immediately was sent back due to the fact that the soup was completely cold. As our meal continued on, we all ate off of appetizer plates, since we were never brought full size plates, even when our food arrived. It only took one look and taste to see that the rice to be one big starch ball, and to taste that the veggies in our grand canyon curry dish might have actually being soap rather than zucchini since that is what they tasted like, and it was at this point when I had come to realize that this may have been one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. When we were finally asked how our food tastes an honest opinion that we were displeased with our meal was expressed to the waitress. The waitress then said she would send the owner over so we can tell him how we feel. After she approached him and told him how we felt, the manager and the waitress immediately went into the kitchen together. Then the COOK comes out from the back, frazzled but also obviously insulted without even hearing what we had to say, and he asked us "what was wrong with the food he made." Not only is it inappropriate from the cook to approach us about this topic, it is even more inappropriate that the OWNER of the restaurant was not able to come up and ask us himself not even once, instead he came out from the back and sat at at the bar and watched all of this take place. So if you encounter a problem at Tara Thai don't even both saying anything because really the customers are in the wrong, not the restaurant or the owner. So after paying $70 to a below mediocre Thai restaurant where the chef must have used the internet as his inspiration for making the thai food(If he would have used Pinterest the dishes might have actually had more flavor), we left to go home and actually have a real meal. Not mention that we saw at least 2 bowls and plates break during the time we ate, this place is as dysfunctional as it can get. Honestly I am not even ripping this place the new one that it deserves from our experience, I am sugar coating it. So go ahead and try real thai food at one of the other restaurants in town, and I 100% guarantee a better meal and experience.
(1)K.A. B.
Lovely ambiance, overpriced and mediocre food. Ordered all food with a "2" of "4" spice level and it was firey hot! Mixed vegetable dish was mostly water chestnuts. Overall just too expensive for so-so food. Someone from the kitchen needs to go to L.A. and spend some time in Thaitown for inspiration.
(2)mary s.
Unable to reach them by phone...so I drove down there and because our party was only 4..they would not take a reservation....no explanation given when asked about the phone situation. I won't go into detail about the uninformed wait staff or the fact that I asked for tea and was told they were out of tea bags! Bottom line...3 out of 4 of us were sick the next day. Won't be going back. Sorry...I rarely leave negative feedback.
(2)Ella K.
Hmmm, their phone number won't work. I brought this up to the owner/manager lady 3 weeks ago. She said they were having some issues with it. So 3 weeks later they still don't care enough about their business income to get a new @&$) phone number? The first time I was there I noticed how TINY the drinks are. Woah. They're all $10 a piece, very little alcohol in it and the glass is no wider than my credit card, picture attached to show. Definitely don't waste your hard earned money on their measly drinks! The dish I tried last time was way over priced too. I went back this time because my husband was craving some late night curry. I was greeted at the door by: NOBODY. 7 staff members stared lazily at me from various parts of the restaurant. I finally made it to the bar to order to go. Once I got the bag I was highly disappointed at the quantity of curry vegetables. Very minimal. I opened the rice container next to it and it was only half full. Wow. So that's what my hubby ate for dinner. A 'kiddie' size portion with a resort price tag. It wasn't even mild spicy and I asked for medium heat. Never will I be back, never ever ever again.

I gave Tara Fine Thai Cuisine 5 stars because it is, hands down, the best Asian food in the entire Prescott area. I ate there several times when they were located in Prescott Valley and always enjoyed their food. Now that they have moved to their new upscale location in Prescott I like the place even more. The ambiance is very nice--nothing like all the usual strip mall locations you find most Asian restaurants. Surprisingly, the new menu offers more than the usual dishes found on most Thai menus, but the prices are very reasonable also. For just $8.95 I enjoyed the curried duck for lunch on a Friday and it was delicious; my partner had the sweet and sour pork, equally as good. If you are looking for the best Asian cuisine in the Prescott area in a lovely setting, then I highly recommend Tara Fine Thai Cuisine.
(5)Kathie L.
Not that great. Not very helpful with menu suggestions or that friendly. Food was okay. Presentation was okay. We felt rushed so they wouldn't have to do anything more for us. It's not like people were waiting for our table.
(1)Stephanie H.
I ordered the Pad Thai to-go and the portion was MAYBE enough to feed one person and cost $15 with tax. Good tasting food, but in my opinion, it doesn't stand up to the price let alone, "fine dining." Nice atmosphere though.
(2)Sharon S.
Ate here again last night. Our waiter, Joe, was very good. Pleasant and very efficient. I had the featured martini and it was great. The chef walked around and made sure that everyone was happy. He's very personable. My husband had the ribs which were great, and we shared the Thai Pho soup which was very tasty. They seem to be trying to correct problems we previously experienced.
(4)Joseph B.
The tom ka soup is amazing and i cant get enough of their coconut icecream. They have put together a beautiful restaurant and bar with a great atmosphere.
(5)William L.
The food does not do justice to the surroundings. We had watched the renovations at this restaurant for many months and were greatly impressed with the finished product. It's a beautiful space with the large Buddha in the center overlooking a koi pond. The bar is a long beautiful expanse of golden wood. The whole restaurant is one large open space tastefully executed. If only the food and bar service had lived up to the surroundings. We had to wait fo a table so we decided to have a drink at the bar. Two young girls were tending bar but they were much more interested in a group of young men in the center of the bar than the other patrons. They eventually made it to us and my friend ordered a gin and tonic and I ordered a black russian with rum (Kahlua and rum). When they brought the gin and tonic they informed me they didn't carry Kahlua (usually a bar staple) and would I like something else. I settled for a Captain Morgan and coke. We were off to a bad start. We waited about 20 minutes even though there were open tables in the back and were eventually led to a cramped table for two abutting the Buddha enclosure. Our server Kristen approached and asked if we needed more drinks. We declined and informed her we would like to order the Taste of Thailand Sampler appetizer ($11.95). Kristen was the one positive thing about this experience. She was helpful and professional but seemed overworked, as if she were training the rest of the staff. The appetizer arrived and was very disappointing. The wontons were hollow dough sacks bereft of flavor as were the 2 sad little chicken satay skewers. The Veggie rolls were crispy on the outside but swimming in oil on the inside. The shrimp were the saving grace of this dish. Not overly large but plump and perfectly prepared. We then ordered two entrees, Coconut Princess curry ($12.95) and the Crispy Pork Belly ($15.95). I used to live in Honolulu and ate at a Thai restaurant that supposedly invented a dish called Evil Jungle Prince (absolutely delicious). Most Thai restaurants serve variations of this dish and I believe the Coconut Princess Curry to be a variation. We ordered the dish as a 2 on the heat index since this was our first visit. The curry was good although the portion was small and mostly liquid. The Crispy Pork Belly was a different story. A small flavorless slab consisting primarily of fat served over flavorless forbidden rice with sauteed asparagus and cashews decorating the plate's outer edge. The asparagus and cashews exhibited some promise but not enough to make up for the main part of the dish. This was so disappointing. I love Thai food. It is an exotic cuisine full of vibrant flavors and I experienced very little of what makes me love Thai food here. It's a gorgeous restaurant but we won't be going back.

I have been a big lover of Thai food for many, many years, across this great nation, in many different cities, large and small. I say with confidence that this is the best tasting Thai food in the greater Prescott area. There is a certain blend of flavors, fragrances, sights and textures to this style of food. Tara Thai nailed it. BULLSEYE! Now, for the rest of the review, and the reasons why I only gave the place 3 stars. Upon entering, we are greeted by a huge statue of Buddha, meditating at an equally large indoor fountain. Very impressive, downright beautiful. The rest of the decor is tastefully done, well thought out, open, airy, well lit, yet quiet (no high ceiling brash "din" you find in many restaurants). The place is clean, warm, comfortable. The wait staff is friendly and attentive enough, but I do wonder why I did not see a single Asian on staff. Not that it's a requirement, I'm just wondering. Usually, one can predict the authenticity of a restaurant's fare by measuring the "gringo factor". This place was 100% gringo, in staff and clientele, so I didn't hold out much hope. I was dead wrong though, the food was F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.! It was as good or better than any Thai food I've ever had in Phoenix, SoCal, NoCal, Seattle, New York, Detroit, Chicago, among other places. Now, for the negatives. They spice the food for gringos. Even at the highest level you can request, when they are literally told "make my nose run" with the spice, the food was bland. Still quite flavorful, but old, round eyed, white man, gringo bland. Sure, I was instructed I could add more heat using the chili sauce, chili powder or pickled jalapeños at the table, but that's not the point. The food tastes better when the spices are added during cooking, not after it's already at the table, quickly dropping to room temperature. The gringo factor thing, I know, is my own preconceived notion, my own "hang up". I can get past that with the performance and knowledge exhibited by the wait staff. Our server readily admitted he had had Thai food only once before being hired, and that he had only experienced for himself a handful of the items on the menu. I probably shouldn't knock points off for that, but it just seemed weird. (Don't get me wrong, he still did his job well) I am also used to a bit more quantity for price than Tara Thai offered. Although their soups were huge (~$11.50 and could have fed two people), they were already almost lukewarm by the time they were served. Sorry, i like my soups and my coffee to be HOT! The Pad Thai portion size was pretty skimpy for the price. It was $13.50 at lunch for what would be considered a very small portion size, even for lunch, anywhere else in the country. I've never seen Pad Thai so expensive in my life. Anywhere. Although it was yummy, I was expecting to fill my belly, plus take a little bit with me. It's a Thai restaurant after all! The spring rolls were hideously overpriced, $6 for two very small rolls. There were 4 people in our party. We ordered 1 order of appetizer spring rolls (2 small rolls, we split, so we got a half each), 1 salad, 1 entree, and 2 soups, waters, no drinks and the bill came to $57. That seems high for a Thai food lunch. All in all, a nice experience. But I would like to see more lunch specials, or perhaps a complete lunch menu. There was only the one menu offered, small lunch portions at high end dinner prices.

Yum! This is our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. They did such a great job with decor as well. It feels very spacious inside. I like that I don't feel like I'm climbing all over someone else's table as I walk thru the restaurant (occasionally the case with our small town restaurants). Service is average, we've had both excellent and "meh" experiences with the wait staff. But the food has always been good. Every soup we've tried has been excellent- with the favorite being the Tom Ka. The curries are scrumptious. The yellow is my all-time favorite. The addition of pumpkin bites, along with the regular potatoes/peppers/onions, really sets it off. I prefer my spice at a 2- gives just enough tingle without eclipsing the flavor. The only negative is the price. I do think the price is a little excessive for the amount of food you get, so this is usually reserved for nice date-nights. I would love to see them introduce a "lunch menu" with lower prices. I can never justify going there at lunchtime with the prices they charge.

Sorry but damn, I paid $11 for a cup and a half of rice (stir fry). It tasted alright but you can't justify charging that much for something that cost $3 to make. Fountain is cool though.

I didn't give it one star due to the nice ambience. We had an inedible calamari appetizer (that they tried to make twice) followed by mediocre main dishes. This is not the Thai you're looking for. There is much better Thai food in Prescott in strip mall hole in the walls at half the price.

This was one of my favorite restaurants and one I gladly went out of my way to frequent when they were small, intimate, friendly and served tasty plentiful Tai dishes in Prescott Valley. Now that they have moved to Prescott in a high rent section of town, they have lost the intimacy, friendliness, and the delicious, plentiful, and appropriately prices meals for which they were famous. This week I ordered my usual Arizona Heat that used to arrive at the Prescott Valley location loaded with crisp fresh veggies, and plenty of tender sliced chicken swimming in a delightful curry coconut sauce with a hint of mint for $9.95. This also included a choice of soup or peanut dressed salad. Now at the new Prescott location my Arizona Heat lunch arrived without the usual choice of soup or salad, still in the same tasty sauce, but where were the snow peas, baby corn, chunks of zucchini, broccoli, carrots and other colorful tasty veggies? My serving had a sparse amount of chicken and none of the above veggies. It did have many cheap chunks of celery, sliced onions, one small piece of carrot, mint, and slivers of green pepper all for the increased price of $12.95. I could see the owner sitting at the bar talking with friends, but he never greeted arriving guests or asked how things tasted, and never even smiled to customers when he walked by their tables. Very disappointed and sad to have lost one of my most favorite restaurants.

My favorite type of food is Thai. I've eaten in over a hundred Thai houses between Thailand and seven states, including New York and California and a few other countries. This place served me food that is among the least enjoyable I've ever had. It looked like Thai food but did not taste like it. The windows have no coverings so the glare from the mid day sun reflecting off the parked cars outside is downright painful. At least the restaurant is beautiful except for the small sitting area by the entrance, which was furnished with what looked like furniture that should be donated to the Salvation Army. The server was so inattentive that we were actually amused by her seeming to be so spaced-out. We wanted to order tea, coffee and the duck plate but we simply could not get her attention. It was not crowded at all. With only two tables to handle one would think that she would come by at least a couple of times just to give her something to do. Prices here are just simply unjustifiable. Example: a small bowl of curry (so sweet it came close to triggering my gag reflex) was $13.00. Them's Beverly Hills or Manhattan prices! Also, We tried both the "green" and "yellow" curry and could not tell which was which based on their coloring. The server said that the difference was the different colored vegetables used respectively. Warning: DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SIT YOU IN THE REAR SECTION, NEAR THE KITCHEN.

Poor food quality, poor service . Too bad, because the decor and ambience of the restaurant is very well done. For starters, if you want hot tea expect a warm cup of water and a tea bag. Tacky! Two of the entrees that were ordered out of the four were wrong, and the heat levels did not match for what was ordered. From the beginning waitress seem to be preoccupied, and not very attentive. I ordered the pork belly on forbidden rice. Tasteless charcoal briquette on brown mush. They should be forbidden to serve this. Proteins and other entrees we're very anemic hard to find and bland. This place needs a lot of help. Tara Thai, is Tara-bull. The one star rating is for the restaurants decor. Nice Koi pond.

Great Date Night Spot! The atmosphere - amazing Service - Great (we were there at lunch when there was not a huge crowd) Food - Good My only complaint about this place is that I am not sure that you get your moneys worth. Our bill at lunch came to $100 (we had an appetizer 2 glasses of wine each and an entree). I ordered the "Arizona Heatwave" which is described on the menu as a vegetable dish and it had only 2 tiny pieces of broccoli in it (I only ordered it for the vegetables so I was a little disappointed). Other than the lack of vegetables it was very good. My husband ordered the Pad Tai and thought that it was okay (we have had better at Toi's Thai in PV). My only reason for giving this 4 stars is that it is truly a very classy place to dine and the food was good (not great but good). For us ladies who love to go on a date night where we can get dressed up, have a glass of wine and relax... I think this place is perfect! If you are just craving Tai food though and aren't looking for it to be a dining experience I would recommend Toi's Thai in PV.

So glad this place finally opened, Beautiful interior and good service. The food is better than other Thai places in town but the two delicious curries we ordered were heavy on sauce BUT very light on vegetables and meat. For the price, we were surprised.

I waited awhile after Tara opened and then looked at some reviews. Some were not very good. So, I stayed away but decided to drop by yesterday at happy hour. What could go wrong with half price drafts. A couple of friends joined me and I was immediately impressed with the service. Very nice young woman who was quick, attentive, and made sure we had what we wanted. We decided to order appetizers. I'm glad I did. They were excellent. The Spicy Angel Wings and (stuffed) Wontons were quite good. Best wings I've had in awhile. Things were so good, I decided to try their Kao Pad Sup-pa-rod or pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp - take out. Now, I could live the rest of my life on just great fried rice, and I believe fried rice should be a meal, not a side dish. This fried rice from Tara exceeded my expectations. Best I have had in Prescott and as good as any I can remember. Since I brought this home, I got to have a second delightful experience. I will go back and try lunch/dinner in the restaurant in the near future.
