I have tried to like this place but they make it so darn hard! After numerous lunches there we have started passing it up, and I can't really say that I'm missing it much. So much potential, but disappointing every time. The menu is fun, don't get me wrong, they have catchy names for tried and true classics like egg salad, BLT, etc. and they seem to keep it clean and neat. It's the service and food that disappoints. With window service only you think they could crank out a couple of subs in a reasonable time. They cannot. We have waited more than 20 minutes for a simple cold-cut sandwich. When it came I wished I had just walked across the parking lot to Safeway and ordered a sub there; not bad, but really nothing very good. The sides are pretty disappointing as well; bags of chips, direct from Costco and the most measly, worthless, tiny servings of Potato or Marconi salad I have ever seen. Really that have to be one big spoonful glopped in a lilliputian cup. Don't bother. They never, and I really mean this, NEVER, get our order right. I hate mustard on my sandwiches. It usually is slopped on, they use far too much of it, and it masks the taste of everything else in the sandwich. If I want to taste nothing but mustard I will grab a jar and spoon and chow down. Otherwise keep it off my food! I always order "No mustard." and, I always seem to get it here. The last time, and I do mean last time, they argued with me about it. Wrong move, way wrong. This was something trivial to them but important to me; I know what I ordered. I ALWAYS order "No mustard." The sandwich goes in the trash and as we go out the door. Likewise my partner often discovers something amiss with his food, on more than one occasion, a completely different sandwich than what he actually ordered. More arguments and waits to fix that. It say on the sign "Voted the best of Prescott" - that must have been a while ago; these days it falls far short.

I got one of their veggie sandwiches, stacked to the nines. All the components were fresh and you could really tell the difference between it being hand-assembled and being pre-assembled - everything wasn't all mushed together and gross. My companions got sandwiches with meat and those were equally delicious. Although the line was probably 20 people long when we went during the lunch rush, the women at the register and making the sandwiches were cheerful and friendly. My only downfall with this place is that the hours are slightly restrictive, I wish they were open during dinner hours!

Great sandwiches! Went here for a lunch with a friends. I had the Yummy Yosemite, which is thinly sliced turkey sandwich with veggies and cream cheese. It was great. Everything tasted fresh and it was a good size sandwich. You can choose what bread you want and what side. I just had chips, but they offered potato salad or cole slaw. My friend had a roast beef sandwich that was delicious. It was great roast beef with green chilis, cream cheese and chipotle mayo on a grilled hoagie roll. It was really busy, thankfully we got there at a good time, but not soon after all of the tables were full. Great place to get a good sandwich!

I guess I can see why Scout's appeals to some folk. Decor is a bit better that your standard sandwich shop. They try to be creative with a sandwich combinations. They seem to have a good amount of choices. But for me, they just don't deliver enough to make me come back. One big problem is the excessively long wait time. Too often it's ridiculous. Come on, now! There is no *cooking* going on here guys. You are just grabbing a few handfulls of preprepped items and putting them on bread. It's lunch time. We're in a hurry. Let's get a move on it! Some other issues for me are: Lack of tasty, plentiful sides to compliment my sandwich. Prices are just a little high for what you get. Changes to your sandwich aren't handled well. I've given Scout's a few tries because of their supposed "awards" and to make sure my issues were not just a one time thing. For me there are better choices. Meh. I've experienced better.

Still number one in Prescott. Love my trips into town just so I can stop by for a sandwich.

Great Ruben! Love that sandwich. I do have to wonder why they want you tell them first if you have any coupons BEFORE they take your order? Is there a reason? I suspect two different prices for this with coupons and this without??? Anyway, good food but sure, the wait is kinda lengthy!

My first experience here was terrible. I brought my sister here for a thank you lunch. We were the only ones there and it took much longer than is reasonable for a sandwich and chips. No warning of how long it would take. No apology when the food was finally brought out. I figured maybe it was a fluke. I don't like to punish a business for the actions of ONE indiviual employee. I tried again several months later. This time with my husband and 1 month old daughter. If you have kids, especially a newborn, you know how many things have to come together and how much preparation it takes just for you to have a solid block of "free" time. Well, we made all the arrangements so that we could have a nice lunch together. This too was a mistake. The food again, took waaaaay too long. We ate up our chips while waiting for the sandwich. We were starving after 30 minutes of waiting. Just about when the food came, the baby was up from her nap and it was time to feed her again. By the time I got to eat my sandwich, I was so starving and angry and exhausted. NEVER AGAIN. It's too bad because this is a great local-feeling deli. The inside has Prescott and Arizona stuff all over the walls. The menu has fun names. It feels like a really cool place to eat. But....no. Never again.

My first time here and it was great. I ordered the Loaded Lassen. The sandwich was so good I almost choked because of eating so fast. Only drawback was the wait for the sandwich. Like the previous review said it was a pretty long wait for the sandwich and I was the only one in line. However with that being said, I would rather wait for a tasty sandwich then get a fast piece of crap like subway.

Proud to be the first to review this shop! While I can't speak intelligently about the shop itself because we got the sandwiches as a take-out lunch for a meeting I was attending, I can say OMG about the sandwiches! I had a turkey sandwich that had cranberry and cream cheese on the most delicious rolls I've ever had. This bread...it was crusty but was so fresh and was the perfect bread for this sandwich. I hate when you eat a sandwich and think "this is great, but I wish they used ________ bread", KWIM? Anyway, the other members of my group all had different kinds of sandwiches on various bread types and everyone was very pleased. They even offer vegetarian sandwiches which is great for a little shop. The only thing I would change is the portion sizes for their pasta salads. It was so small and while I don't know how much the group paid, anything over 50 cents would have been too much given the size of the portion. Don't be stingy--if you are going to offer salads, give people more than 2 bites. Looking forward to my next visit to Prescott so I can share this shop with my hubby who is a true sandwich afficianado!

I'm sorry to give Scout's 2 stars but i gotta. The sandwiches are pretty yummy and fairly priced. But every single time I've been here, I wait about 20 minutes for my sandwich. A sandwich? Not even a hot sandwich or something that involves cooking. A plain old sandwich that involves putting mayo on 2 slices of bread and adding meat and cheese. I've gone at different times too, thinking that maybe they are just busy or something. Nope. It's like this at all times. The place is tiny too! They desperately need to expand. There are never any seats available. It sucks that Prescott has very few places to get a good deli sandwich. So if you get a craving for one, Scout's is an obvious choice. But don't go if you are in a hurry.

Scouts is a great little place to grab a sandwich. The staff is always friendly and the food is consistent. I like the Yummy Yosemite, which is turkey, provolone, sprouts, tomato, and cream cheese mayo. The only problem I have with the place is that if you go between noon and 1pm you will be waiting for awhile. They get really busy during lunch time. But that is not their fault. It's a good sign when a place is packed. If you plan on going during that time I would recommend calling your order in before you go.

Their portions are huge and the quality of their ingredients is good. It's busy around lunch and the locals love this place, so they're doing something right! Service is friendly, fast and the place is spotless. My only very minor criticism is the choice of sides. A bag of chips or their potato salad that wasn't my favorite style (mustard). But that's just me. Beans would be welcome. Pasta salad? Overall, a very solid joint if you're in a hurry or stuck at the nearby hospital -- it's much better than the cafeteria!!

Good food...Bad service....Decent prices. Readers Digest Version: the man taking orders doesn't care that the customer can save some money if they add items as a side to the main meal versus paying full price for a side and in fact scolded me for not being familiar with their menu. Argument extended to another employee backing up the man and ultimately to me politely suggesting the proper course of action for this business would be to refund my money for the soup which could have been added as a side to my main dish as part of the main dish price. They did end up handing my money back but with a scowl and a huff. Our order: Full Yummy Yosemite, 1/2 Tuna, and a cup of soup. All tasted good and fresh. Total price came to $19.60.

This was my first time to visit and was I surprised that a food place in the middle of the week would close so early. This rating is because of the awful hours they have. Why do you close at 4:00pm in the afternoon? That's stupid. People have to eat in the afternoon too, dingbats! I got there exactly at 4:00 and walked in, and was told "Sorry we are closed." Is anyone listening? Come on change your hours, your missing out on MONEY.

I visited Scout's yesterday, for the second time since we moved to this area. The first time was about six months ago. I thought it was okay, but not anything great. So I tried them again yesterday to see if my opinion would change. Scout's calls itself Scout's Gourmet Grub. You might be surprised that it looks like any other sandwich/deli shop. I walked up to the counter to place my order. I looked at their menu and noticed all their sandwiches seem to have cute little names instead of just ordering a club, turkey, or ham sandwich. I decided on a club sandwich, sorry I don't remember the name they called it. I told the man behind the counter what sandwich I wanted, but without cheese. He asked what kind of bread, and I told him. He then asked what kind of cheese. I said "No Cheese". He again asked what kind of cheese. I thought maybe I had mumbled, or something, and he did not understand what I had said the first time (technically the second time I said I didn't want cheese) so I repeated "No cheese". He again asked what kind of cheese. I said, "NO Cheese" a little louder, thinking there was some kind of cheese that maybe sounded like no and I was getting mad. He said, "I have to know what kind of cheese", I was mad and was about to spell the word no, and should of just walked out, when a woman in an apron came from the back and told the man what to leave off. I don't know, maybe it's me, but a customer shouldn't have to repeat themselves four times in a span of less than a minute about their order. Maybe the man had to know what specific cheese to punch into the register to have it left off. But why ask the customer, who doesn't want cheese, what kind of cheese. Why he didn't know his menu, or at least look it up on the menu himself, just shows a lack of training, caring, or both. I paid just shy of ten dollars for the sandwich, a small drink, and a bag of chips. I sat at one of their tables. The order was out in about three minutes, and I met the younger woman who said my order number half way across the room. The sandwich was good, or okay. Better than a Subway, but didn't seem to be worth almost ten dollars. Scout's doesn't have to worry about me coming back. I will try some other sandwich shops in the area. I hope I can find one at least as good as a Togo's, and would be very very happy if I found one like a Kinders (east bay of the San Francisco area).

Delicious! I had the Mt. Rainier. My friend had the special for the day which was spinach artichoke sandwich. Both were very good. You can have chips or their potato salad. I do not like potato salad. However, what they served was so good. It reminded me of cowboy potato salad. The food came out quick and the staff was energetic. I am not surprised that they have been rated best sandwich and deli many years in a row.

Boring and overpriced. We often enjoy the deli sandwiches at the nearby Safeway, but thought we would try this place. We found the chicken and bacon sandwich OK, but nothing special. The Hawaiian beef sandwich tasted like plain old pot roast, with none of the flavors described in the menu being evident. Fortunately, there was a bottle of Chalula on the table, so the sandwich was saved. That is, in the sense that the little bottle of Tabasco in an MRE saves that meal. However, the potato salad is REALLY good.

Have been here several times and order a different sandwich each time. Each one has been great - definitely one of the best in Prescott.
