My mother, step-father, brother and I went here to celebrate on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was fairly calm, but we were shocked to see that the hostess was also the only wait staff. Nevertheless, we were promptly seated and taken care of. We ordered fairly quickly, but it still took us a while to get our food. My guess is they were short-staffed that night. I have to be completely honest, we really only come here for the sushi and sake. I haven't tried much else on the menu. As far as I'm concerned, they're the best sushi in town ever since Monsoon on the Square shut down. They are always quick, friendly and clean here. I've never left feeling truly unsatisfied with my food or service. But please bear in mind that they are a mom and pop restaurant so they tend to do things at their own pace.

I have been eating here for years. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. They work very hard to make your experience a good one. The food has always been consistently good. I like to sit at the sushi bar because you can chat with the owner and chefs. Must haves are.. Quail egg shooters.. Hawaiian roll.. Samurai roll.. And baked green mussels. All the food is good, and I have never had a bad item. When the restaurant is busy you may have a wait for your food, but I don't like to feel rushed. I like to spend a couple hours relaxing and sipping sake between courses. I proposed to my wife here if that says anything about my love for Fujiyamas.

Always love coming here to great Japanese food! They have great miso soup and whatever dressing they use on their salad is amazing! The staff is always friendly as well.

This review is for the sushi and service. Go for the samurai roll, it's out of this world delicious! By far, this is the best sushi to be found in Prescott.

YUMMM!!! The best Japanese restaurant we've had since we came to the mainland. Food was yummy and service was good. Definitely will go back next time we are in Prescott!

Seriously great! Me and my fiance went on a Friday night and order one appetizer, a combination, a entree, and a dessert. For the appetizer we had Haromaki, which was pretty crispy but tasty! It's a fried egg roll, there were 3. Then Tim had the combo, which had chicken teriyaki, California rolls, shrimp and veggie tempura while I had just the veggie tempura entree. Both meals came with miso soup, cucumber salad, a real salad, and rice. The tempura was absolutely amazing! The batter is the perfect crunchy, and the food was nice and cooked inside. The chicken had a wonderful sauce to it, and was nice and moist. And Tim gobbled up all 6 of his California's rolls! For dessert we tried their plum ice cream, which was fruity and sweet! Simply had a wonderful time, and would recommend! It came to about $52 for everything after tip~

Good food, Great service. We are from California (i live by the ocean while my parents are from the inner area) and I have tons of sushi and sashimi. I had the bent dinner special and their portions are pretty Big compared to the ones I have tried inf California. Their salad is reallu good. Great dressing. Seems like crab so it's good. And also the sushi seemed good also. Pretty amazed how it is since Its not close to any costal area.

This place is a hidden gem in Prescott. Fish was fresh and tasted good. The service was also good. This was our first visit, but not our last. We suggest salmon sushi and a spicy tuna hand roll.

I am so displeased right now. I had a hard day and wanted to treat myself. I usually go to Esoji, but they are still waiting on the liquor license at the new place, so figured I'd go to Fujiyama. I'd been there twice before and it was decent. I ordered the Hawaiian roll, because it is one of the few with salmon and my favorite is salmon. It was supposed to have salmon on top. I got it and drove it. I ate three (of 10) pieces and realized - where's the salmon?!? - I wish I'd taken a photo. There were two teeny pieces of salmon on two of the remaining 7 pieces. Each about the size of a thumbnail. I told one of the waitresses about it (not our waitress) and she halfway asked if maybe could replace the roll? I said that if she could just give me one salmon sashimi that'd be fine. Our waitress came over and ARGUED with me! She told me how the roll is made and how there is salmon on every other piece. I pointed out to her the lack of salmon on every other piece as well as showed her the teeny two pieces of salmon. She kept arguing with me. She pointed out that I'd eaten three pieces (implying that the vast quantities of salmon would have been on those three pieces) I finally said to forget it. That was HORRIBLE customer service. I've worked in restaurants and customer service. All she had to say was "I'm sorry about that, let me fix it" I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I wasn't asking for a new roll. Just a little more salmon. I will never go back there. Not that they seem to care.

Decent, average fish (compared to my rather extensive experience with sushi bars around the world); great for Prescott. The service is graceful and accommodating to my allergies. Sashimi pieces are large. Tuna rolls are small. Also there's a spicy-ass roll with something that could be called "shrimp chorizo" which I would order again, knowing that it's warm and saucy. I was satisfied until we got the bill: $106 for four people, including 2 rolls, 2 mini sashimi plates, 1 hot sake and 4 beers. There are places in Tucson and LA where that bill would total $60, especially during a happy hour. Not worth the price, overall, but I'd go back.

Absolutely the worst customer service of any restaurant we have ever visited. I will start at the beginning. About two weeks ago we found this restaurant on Yelp. We live in Prescott and it is on our way back and forth to the Valley. We stopped in and had a nice time. We sat at the sushi bar and we asked that they exchange broccoli for chicken in the teriyaki chicken for our children. They agreed to do so but were strange about it. They had to ask a manager, which I thought was strange. I mean, if you serve broccoli and someone wants to replace a meat item with that what could possibly be the issue? We even offered to pay more for the broccoli. Anyway, they agreed to make the change and we had a nice meal. A week and a half later we visited again. The server was a bit weird and came back and said that they had gotten in trouble before for substituting the broccoli and had been told never to do it again. This has never been an issue in any restaurant we have ever visited before in our lives. They said that they were "low on broccoli" so we would have to order the number with all broccoli and split it. I didn't have a menu anymore at this point and was assured that this would be exactly what we were trying to order. It showed up as a gigantic plate of tempura fried broccoli. You know, the broccoli they were running low on. My son (5 and vegetarian) was very sad. He asked several times where his dinner was. He doesn't eat tempura. We sent it back as neither child would eat it. My son literally spooned white rice into his mouth with his hands as they sat there and refused to just stir fry some broccoli. What it comes down to is a manager who cares nil about customer service. We have a favorite sushi place that we have frequented for years when we are in phoenix. We have never had any issues there at all. Whomever is running this business cares more about being in charge than he does about his customers. This situation was plain mean. Had someone said anything to us before we had ordered our veggie sushi we would have just left and gone elsewhere. The people who work here are clearly scared of this "manager" and can not do their job, which is to take care of their patrons because of him. Owners, I hope you are reading this. We will never be back and I will be sharing this experience everywhere I can. Esoji isn't too far away, people. They have a new location and a better attitude. We have had no customer service issues there. Goodbye, Fujiyama.

What a great place. Considering this is a small little town they have some great fresh sushi here. Not a huge selection but that's to be expected in a town like this where you probably don't have a huge sushi following. Great customer service, friendly, clean, and fresh!!! I love in Orange County and we have excellent sushi there. This place is very good even compared to where I'm from!. Keep it up

I'm not big on Japanese food, but I'm big on this one. The food is always very fresh and made to order. I actually even like their sushi-- now that is saying something! By the way, they are now on Iron Springs road across from Walmart.

Went there for dinner a few days ago, service was great, salmon rolls and tuna rolls where subpar. Restaurant is dated and dirty. I've been to quite a few Japanese restaurants around the country and this one doesn't have it. I would skip this one go to the other one in town.

The Sashimi Dinner is a must. Val and Tony (the owner/operators) are so pleasant and accommodating! The spicy Quail Egg Shooters are amazing! I would recommend asking for a side of teriyaki sauce to pour over the side of white rice- mmmm so tasty!

Went to this sushi bar last night for Valentine's Day. It was quite crowed but we were seated fairly fast. I have always loved most of their menu so imagine my surprise when I asked for a second order (the first order was the real deal) of YELLOWTAIL and was given a half frozen, smelly imposter! Yes, that's right - they served me Red Snapper instead!!!. TOTALLY ILLEGAL! I took a picture of it. How sad. Won't be going there anymore.

This restaurant can easily change my review from a one star to a five star restaurant by 'paying attention to their website'. Very discouraging when you feel like Japanese food and get all the wrong info. Yelp says, open week days for lunch. So on Monday, i called and no answer so I decided to go down there. Sign says Restaurant opens Tue to Sun for lunch and dinner. I only had Sunday and Monday available. i could have been there on Sunday. What a bummer. I think Fujiyama should pay more attention to its advertising or they will continue to lose business. But when i was there, the restaurant looked great, menu looked great. So maybe, when I'm back in Prescott, i might just give it a try.

Good food. Good people. A simple place with simple food. Enjoyed a simple quick lunch of crunchy calamari salad and caterpillar roll. Nothing really stands out and it's your basic Japanese themed restaurant. Everything is OK. Hard to believe that there was a sushi place in Prescott but it's good to have a taste from home. No problem being at a quite strip mall. Plenty of parking!

I don't understand why people write raving reviews about how much they like a restaurant and don't give it the full 5 stars it deserves. Fujiyama is exactly that... 5 stars! The food is excellent, the restaurant is small and very warm and inviting and the staff is so welcome and completely understands that customers will make or break your business. The restaurant is owned and operated by Tony and his wife. Johnny works behind the counter with Tony and together they serve up some of the finest sushi I have ever put in my mouth! That statement comes from years of being a sushi connoisseur here in the states and in Japan. Everything you order is out of this world and most rolls are original. Be sure to ask what the daily specials are and if you would like something custom made, they are always more than willing if they are not overwhelmed. Don't miss this place!!! You'll miss out!

I LOVE this place! It's not the kind of place you would just happen onto... It's buried in the corner of the Frontier Shopping Center off of Highway 69, and it's surrounded by vacant, empty storefronts... But MAN is it worth tracking down! Some of the best sushi I've EVER had, and I lived in Hawaii for ten years, so that's saying something! The sushi chef is really friendly and personable, and he is also a sushi artist. Great atmosphere, great service, and AMAZING food!

Fujiyama has some of the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had the pleasure of tasting, but everything else we've ordered there was forgettable.

Been here a couple of times, and actually enjoyed the food both times. One star was knocked off because we came in on a slow night and no one bothered to acknowledge us as we were standing by the host stand. We had to flag someone down. Once we were seated, the server was kinda cold at first, but she later warmed up after we cracked a few jokes about things. The food was prepared quickly, and although we personally prefer Esoji by downtown Prescott, the quality and freshness of the food here was still pretty good, considering there are no oceans close by. If this was the only sushi place in the area, we wouldn't mind because it's still worth coming back to.

Roy 'The Hungry Englishman' I'm a really huge fan of Japanese restaurants and totally love great sushi, so I was keen to check out this local place just in case it was a real find, however I'm sad to say I won't be returning! I held myself back from allocating one star as I reserve such a damning accolade for restaurants that are truly bad and I can't quite say that of 'Fujiyama' but was it good? I'm afraid not, not even average. I won't bore you with every detail; suffice to say the whole experience was very un-authentic - the food a decidedly poor attempt at Japanese cuisine. But aside from the lack of authenticity the quality was very much below average all around. I was especially disappointed with the sushi, the fish having an air of 'day old' sadness. I always find quality sushi really fresh, clean and invigorating, so much so that one almost gets a 'high' on such wonderful, tasty and nourishing sustenance but not in this case, where the sushi seemed to have been prepared by someone who had perhaps never seen or eaten real sushi let alone had any training to prepare such a delicacy, compounded no doubt by the exceedingly poor quality ingredients. It is rare I leave even an average sushi restaurant with a bad taste resonating on my palate - quite the contrary - but in this case I couldn't wait to get home for a strong cup of tea to help disseminate the memory. This is not a bad restaurant but most decidedly 'very' below average. If you have never had sushi before 'please' don't make this your first experience. In fact if you have a palate at all find somewhere that does this truly speculator food more justice, as this restaurant is to sushi what Booth was to Lincoln - an assassin! Happy eating, Roy.

It's tucked in the back corner of a half-empty strip mall, with a sign saying only "Japanese Restaurant". Try the the Nabemono Fish pot which is a huge steaming bowl of light broth packed with several kinds of fish, tempura shrimp, mussels, jumbo scallops, nori, cellophane noodles, carrot, mushroom, onion, large tender pieces of tofu, and lots of napa cabbage. Plus it also comes with a side of rice and a cucumber salad. The eel bowl was simply delicious and had a nice-sized portion of eel. They have a variety of dishes combining smaller entrees with either sushi/sashimi or tempura if you're having trouble deciding on just one. A unique appetizer is the stone clams- which are more gorgeous Japanese presentation than actual food. (5 tiny bite-sized clams on the half-shell with Ponzu and spicy seasoning.) Order it to impress a date. They're almost too pretty to eat. Our waitress was also outstanding. She described each dish as if she'd been in the kitchen making it herself. Her name was Pai.

First of all, lets be realistic, this is Arizona, not only that, but small town Arizona. That being said, this place is great and always consistent. I think their tempura shrimp is some of the best I have ever had. I enjoy their sushi rolls, they are pleasant, both in flavor and presentation. This place is like an exotic bird in the middle of a dude ranch.

My family was visiting from out of town and we really liked this place. Wife and kids all went and everybody liked their dish. In my book if everyone is happy, 5 stars. Also the wait staff was very attentive and quick to our needs. Good job

I remember my first visit to Fujiyama several years ago, when sushi had yet to attain its current level of popularity. The idea of consuming raw fish seemed repulsive. However, because everyone else seemed to do it - well, that must mean I must do it, right? Fujiyama is located at the southwest corner of the "Frontier Village Shopping Center" - between the Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant and Wells Fargo Mortgage office. The interior is what you would expect from a restaurant. The cashier's register is located along the entrance (to your right when you enter). Seating is abundant, and you will likely never be required to wait. You can opt to sit at a table or at the sushi bar. Further, I have found the staff to very efficient and friendly. For Appetizers, I recommend the Sashimi. A downside to this is that they have limited the availability of fish to one type (Tuna, Yellow Tail, White Fish, or Octopus). Previously (if I recall correctly), an order of Sashimi allotted one a sample of each fish. Fujiyama also has rolls available (California, Tuna, etc.). For an entrée, I recommend the Steak Teriyaki. The Steak Teriyaki is accompanied with steamed rice, salad, and an orange slice. Ambience is mostly supplied from lighting from the ceiling. Prices are affordable, with appetizers less than $8. Main entrees range from about $10 to $14. Additional Notes: - Lunch is also available (I have yet to try, but similar menu - with likely smaller portions).

Fujiyama's is like a warm hug at the end of a very long day. When you enter, you are immediately greeted with genuine smiles from the staff, and an eagerness to seat you. The sushi is extremely mouthwatering. My dining partner had the Chirashi, a rainbow-like seafood bowl of sushi rice topped with a generous assortment of raw fish -- mackerel, salmon, tuna, cooked octopus and several other delectable choices. The Kamikaze roll is my favorite, and it has a magic quality that other sushi rolls do not have. Seaweed holds mouthwatering tuna, seared eel, avocado, which is finished with tempura flakes and a spicy sriracha-mayo sauce. It truly is like celebrating a party of flavor in your mouth when you consume Fujiyama's Kamikaze roll. If you order a dinner plate, expect to be very well fed. With every meal you get a nice salad with a mayonnaise dressing, and depending on what you choose, be it salmon teriyaki with vegetable and shrimp tempura, and a California roll, or their other choices, everything is done with consistency. The tempura was quite tasty and crispy; (tempura that is perfect is hard to find--but Fujiyama's does a decent job) and the shrimp is never overcooked and the salmon had a good teriyaki sauce that is not overly sweet or salty, and lets the flavor of the fish come through. The California roll is OK, made with imitation crab, which I am not crazy about. If you are a ordering a dinner plate and want great sashimi along with some hot dishes, order the sesame chicken, tempura and assorted sushi plate; the sashimi is excellent! Fujiyama's is extremely popular and it's not a mystery to why that is. It is an amazing place because they understand the elements leading to restaurant's success. The elements that Fujiyama's staff carries out each time I have visited are: the desire to make the customer feel comfortable and relaxed, friendliness combined with anticipating customer's needs, and filling portions of tasty food which are brought to you in a reasonable amount of time. I go to Fujiyama's to let the stresses of life slip away for just a bit, and I suggest you do too. You will leave in a better state than you came, and that is the gift of Fujiyama's.
